The Female Body By Margaret Atwood
Existence of Serving and Survival in The Female Body by Margaret Atwood
Even though humans all have the same label, preferential treatment resides with the males. This is
especially true in The Female Body by Margaret Atwood. Considering the society s perception of how
interaction between races and genders should be, white males are at the top of the social hierarchy. In
this hierarchy, the white are above the coloured and the men are above the females. Hence, women are
given selective and limiting freedom and yet men are also limited by society to the point that most
men do not realise they have limitations placed upon them. Nevertheless men and women do not live
their lives, they survive and yet men seem to enjoy life. Therefore women are marionettes, men are
puppets and society is the puppeteer.
There s a wide range (38) of marionettes and to the men in society; they must have one. A wife that
men will select from many; like selecting an item from the vast versions of the same product. Women
are a commodity that all men eligible for marriage will receive. Hence, women are degraded to as if it
were flesh and blood (38); they are not even considered as humans, but a topic (38) that has the
appearance of a human. Atwood also mentions that female bodies need maintenance like a car would;
a woman that is not human and a female that wants to be more than surviving. Women are objectified
even further by pleasure not being a requirement. Indicating that women are

Guilt In Vera Claythorne, And Then There Were None
Ten little soldier boys went out to dine; One choked his little self and then there were Nine...One little
soldier boy left all alone; he went and hanged himself And then there were None (Green). A group of
10 strangers are sent to the mysterious Soldier Island for a so called vacation. What they don t know is
that there is one murderer among them. During their first night on the island, a mysterious record
reveals the darkest secret of each person, they are murderers. Soon after that, the first murder is
committed and death is among them. As the crowd of ten diminishes, the china soldiers on the table do
as well, until there are none. In And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie, the theme of guilt is
portrayed when Vera Claythorne hangs herself, when the record is played on the gramophone, and
when Miss Emily Brent has flashbacks. Throughout the whole book, Vera Claythorne s guilt builds up,
and she reaches her breaking point after she kills Philip Lombard. After Vera kills Phillip because she
fears that he is the murder, Vera then treks back up to the lengthy mansion, going into her room and
hanging herself because of the mass amounts of guilt that she faces. As the narrator states, She
climbed up on the chair, her eyes staring in front of her like a sleepwalker s. She adjusted the noose
around her neck... She kicked the chair away (Christie 287). This quote reflects on how because of all
of the guilt Vera faced during her time on Soldier Island, she took her own life.

Special Olympics Field Report
Over the weekend i did the last seven hours of community service at the special olympics hosted in
hampton bays. During the event i helped out in a bunch of events. First, all of the volunteers lined up
at the tunnel and cheered each team on running through. Next me and the rest of the volunteers took
their seats for the opening ceremonies where the athletes sang the national anthem and carried out the
torch. After that i went back to my tent where i would help the athletes in different events like the
softball throw, javelin throw and tennis ball throw. All of the baseball players were assigned the same
tent while other volunteers helped out with the 100m sprints and relay races on the track. My job was
to take each athlete with a clipboard down to the place where they would throw, then record their
distance where the ball first touched the ground, and then bring the athletes to the scoring tables. After
bringing them to the table, i would return to the tent with the scoreboard and wait for the next athlete
to repeat the process. Some athletes could throw the balls 3 feet and some could throw the balls further
than some of the baseball players. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and appreciated us being there. I felt real good after helping out the special needs athletes because i
knew that this affected a lot more people that i even knew it could, and i was happy to help. I feel like
i made a difference helping out the athletes and made them feel good about themselves. In the future i

Holistic Care Beliefs
As I begin my career as an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN), I will have to decide what
philosophies I will incorporate into my practice. I believe that holistic care is an effective way to
manage the care of a patient. It will also help me learn more about my patients. This concept looks
beyond a person s physical disease, and it includes all aspects of their health and well being. It
requires a provider to consider the patient s spiritual beliefs, mental needs, emotional status, and
environmental influences. I believe that spiritual healing is a major component of physical healing. By
incorporating holistic care into my practice, I believe I will provide the patient with the best care
available. According to Joel (2013), APRNs that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A basic concept of holistic medicine is that the patient s physical, emotional, and spiritual belief will
affect their overall health. The mind, body, and spirit must be viewed as one. The patient s cultural
beliefs and preferences must be included in their plan of care as well. According to Jasemi,
Zamanzadeh, Valizadeh, Keogh, and Taleghani (2015), holistic care increases self awareness and self
confidence in patients and causes nurses to better understand the effects of an illness on a person s
entire life and their true needs (p.214). As a new provider, it is important to understand that holistic
care may result in various outcomes. Some patients will not have a full recovery from an illness or
disease. The philosophy of holistic care is utilized at all stages of life. The final stage is a perfect
example. Every patient deserves to die with peace and dignity, and they deserve to live as
independently as possible until that day. The use of massage therapy, acupuncture, chiropractic care,
and naturopathy will be seen when utilizing holistic care. As a new APRN, it is important to educate
the patient on the importance of diet, exercise, psychotherapy, and spiritual counseling. When caring
for patients in a holistic manner, you must incorporate all aspects of their life in order to optimize their

The Skin Research Paper
Your skin is the largest and fastest growing organ that the human body has. The skin plays several
very important roles such as keeping bacteria from entering into the body and by also keeping the
organs inside. The skin consist of three different layers; the epidermis is the first outer most layer, the
dermis the middle layer and the subcutaneous which is the third and inner most layer. Each of these
three layers preform very different jobs in keeping you healthy. The epidermis is the outer most layer
of skin and is relatively waterproof (when undamaged), prevents most bacteria and foreign substance
from entering and also protects the internal organs. The palms of the hand and soles of the feet have a
thicker layer of epidermis. New skin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A full thickness graft requires all three layers in order to replace damaged tissue, the donor site for
these may be the chest wall, back and the abdominal wall, these are only used on a third degree burns.
All skin grafts come with great risk. Those risk include; infection, loss of the grafted skin, reduce or
loss of sensation, increased sensitivity, scarring, uneven ski surface or skin discoloration. Another
problem with skin grafting is that they if you have a patient that has had most of their body burnt they
do not have enough skin to graft and replace the damaged skin. In order to fix this problem they had to
come up with another approach to help these people. So studies began around the early 1970 s and
into the 1980s trying to develop a way to make and produce artificial skin called Integra Dermal
Regeneration Template or Integra DRT. Every similar artificial skin is produced or researched and
developed has used the framework from Integra DRT. The brainchild of a trauma surgeon and a

The Portrayal of Crime and Justice in the Spider Man Mythos For nearly 100 years, the children of
America have looked to comic books and their heroes for a sense of right and wrong. Beginning
in1938, with the introduction of Superman, the mythology of the superhero has influenced young
Americans sense of crime and the justice system. However they consumed their media, whether
through the weekly purchase of comic book issues or, more recently, through movies and television,
Americans have been exposed to superheroes and their crusades for justice for decades. Through his

Though he deals with many super powered threats, Spider Man also contends with many common
criminals such as the numerous nameless minions and henchmen common to New York City. These
criminals are products of New York City s diverse social tapestry, representing the opposite of the
peace, and social order that Spider Man upholds. The super powered foes Spider Man faces are often,
much like Spider Man, products of accidents or science experiments gone wrong. They are products of
New York City itself, and feel that they have been wronged in one way or another by the city. These
villains main goal is most often only to spread anarchy and disorder. Overall, the main message
regarding crime in the Spider Man mythos is that law and order must be maintained. No matter how

Essay Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
Mary Godwin was born on August 30, 1797, in London, England, of high literary stock. Her mom,
Mary Wollstonecraft, was the author of A Vindication of the Rights of Woman. She died giving birth
to Mary, placing her daughter in the care of her husband, William Godwin. Mary s upbringing in this
rarefied atmosphere exposed her at an early age to ideas of innovation and revelation, and it created
useful connections for her to such as Lord Byron. Another of the literary types that Mary met as an
adolescent was Percy Bysshe Shelley, an inspiring young poet. They had instant chemistry, and, in

The Merger Of Sundown And Master Corporation
Introduction
Organizational Learning is continuous process of transferring knowledge within an organization. It
requires the organization to effectively detect inefficiencies and to respond by correcting any issues.
Organizational Learning is not defined by training classes, it is multi faceted way of operating. This
paper will outline how the merging of Sundown and Master Corporation can be integrated to the new
organizational culture of the merger.
The merger of Sundown and Master requires that the two organizations become a cohesive and
efficient organization. Applying basic principles of organizational learning should help assist in
fostering an environment of continuous systems thinking. We will examine how the two organizations
can apply the principles of organizational learning to help create sustained success.
Topic / Issue Identification The Sundown organization is the manufacturer of gimbals, which are high
quality camera mounts. The Master organization is an international electronics corporation. Master has
recently acquired Sundown. Along with Sundown, Master also owns a separate gimbal manufacturing
plant about 20 miles from the Sundown manufacturing plant. That plant is currently not meeting their
financial goals. Therefore, Master wants to merge the two organizations. The Master organization and
the Sundown organization have large variance in organizational culture. Sundown is a family owned

COP 3330 OBJECT ORIENTED PROGRAMMING
NAME: DEVARSHI PATEL

DATE: OCTOBER 25, 2016
Doing the research about the object oriented programming on online and also while being enrolled in
this class I have learned so many new things about computer concepts, background and its languages
throughout this fall semester. Which I would like to use and share that information I learned about
object oriented programming languages in this research paper. Even while looking more depth on
online about object oriented languages, I got excited to learn more and more about different computer
languages. In this research, I would share what object oriented means, and also describe two
languages of Object oriented programming particularly I would use Java and C++ to compare and
contrast while using their background information about each language of Java and C++ of an object
oriented programming language.
First of all, let me begin with Object oriented programming. Object oriented programming is a type of
a computer programming language in which begin with the basic concept of an object. Where to
object is characterized by its states and behavior. The state is basically information about object
known about itself and behavior is an action that object can do or react. For example, if you meet a
new person the state is a name, address, height, weight, and so on and its behavior of a person can be

North London Book Of The Dead Character Analysis
The North London Book of the Dead is part of the compilation of short stories named The Quantity

sense lightweight humor and fantastical themes, The North London Book of the Dead follows the
narrative of a son who had lost his mother to cancer, only to meet her again alive and well in a
different part of London. Instead of using descriptive devices to create an eerie mood, Self uses these
to create a familiar setting that does not make any room for doubt. Using a comic style of writing that

In addition to his encounter with Mother and how she had changed, her reaction to him pointing out
her dead status is also repeated from another of his dreams. He describes in his dreams, When I tried
to remonstrate with her, point out to her that by her own lights (she was a fervent atheist and
materialist), she ought to be gently decomposing somewhere, she would fix me with a weary eye and
say in a characteristically deadpan way, So I m dead but won t lie down, huh? Big deal. Upon their
encounter, the same situation had transpired: But Mother, what are you doing in Crouch End? You re
dead. Mother was indignant, Of course I m dead, dummy, whaddya think I ve been doing for the last
ten months? Cruising the Caribbean? The message he never received followed by Mother s phone call
creates an unnerving ending by providing a third person to the situation. A coworker, his bewilderment
arouses all the possibilities of different interpretations of the story because of his third person
objectivity. Whether Mother is a hallucination, a doppelgänger, or the real Mother, it seems to be
deliberately left open by the author by placing such a simple event as the ending of the story. The
North London Book of the Dead uses the devices of how to establish the uncanny but executes them
unconventionally. Intertwining the ordinary and unknown seamlessly, all the while keeping its satirical
tone, the story creates something that stimulates thoughts rather than nightmare

Psychodynamic School Vs. Behavioral School Of Psychology
Essay #1: Psychodynamic School vs. Behavioral School of Psychology The psychodynamic school of
psychology argues that all human behavior can be seen as an interplay of drives and forces within a
person it is largely the study of human cognition and consciousness. The behavioral school of
psychology, on the other hand, believes that human behavior is a product of conditioning and the
actions of others; it is the study of the outside, of physical and tangible processes that shape humans.
Both have practical applications in the world and both are the foundation for therapies (psychotherapy
and behavioral therapy, respectively). The differences in the two approaches can be seen through

Because motivational interviewing is effective, it is easy to conclude that changing behavior and
outlook is indeed crucial to understanding and recovering from mental illness and must, as an
extension, shape human behavior. Also helpful to treatment of precontemplative phase anorexics is
psychotherapy, founded in the psychodynamic approach. This part of therapy is more geared towards
cognition and not behavior of anorexic patients. According to Miller Rollnick (2002), Key elements of
the psychodynamic approach are careful examinations of resistance, defense, ambivalence, and early
patterns of interpersonal relating. These themes are elaborated in, and elucidated by, transference,
countertransference, fantasy, and metaphor. All of those ideas, founded in the psychodynamic
approach, aid in the understanding and treatment of anorexia, especially in unmotivated patients.
Because therapy rooted in the psychodynamic approach is useful in treating anorexia, one can draw
the conclusion that it is also influential on human behavior. Because both motivational interviewing
and psychotherapy are beneficial in treating

Essay on Media Bias Towards Science
The natural sciences is a world the general public will either dive into head first to exploit research out
of fear and ignorance or to coexist with and celebrate recent advancements and discoveries. Whether
or not the public stands and cheers or sulks and cries is entirely dependent on the accessibility of
information and data that is available for public discretion and evaluation. People remain ignorant
about many scientific advances that have paved the path for potential scientific solutions in major
areas including cancer research, prenatal health, pediatric medicine, and genetics. However,

various tissues and are useful for future human applications. In other words, these stem cells float

amniocentesis without any harm to the embryo and then manipulated to form various types of cells. As
described by the articles, amniotic stem cells have a variety of advantages and in perception, are a
solution to several ethical issues that have evolved because of furthering research in stem cells. The
articles both highlight the use of amniotic fluid stem cells as tools to study human genetic diseases by
tissue treatment and analysis of cell cultures. The articles also address the critical argument
surrounding stem cell research: the ethical and moral nature of disrupting fetal development by
extracting the embryonic stem cells and thus terminating the embryo. Amniotic stem cells provide a
solution. According to Kate Torchilin, the chief executive officer of Biocell, amniotic specialists

Hospital Birth Defects
Birth Defects Associated With Out Of Hospital Births
At a point in history, Homebirths and Midwives were prevalent when delivering. However; the use of
these two methods plateaued as many people were concerned with the health of the infants and the
mothers. The ultimate goal of delivery is the safety and protection of both the mother and the child.
For a time, and still to this day, women turned to hospitals to ensure that safety. However, as a new
wave of feminism has empowered mothers to take control of the natural birthing process, more and
more women are reverting back to the home birth method. Though homebirth goes smoothly for most
mothers, there is always the potential for complications that many mothers are not prepared to handle.

However, the best choice should be the one that achieves the ultimate goal of the safe delivery. The
statistics hold the records and can be paramount for a mother who wants to make the decision. The
figures indicate that birth at home is risky when compared to birth in the hospital mostly where there
are a delivery complications, and emergency services are needed. According to the Federal birth
registers, out of a thousand babies born at home, 3.9 would likely to have birth defects mostly
associated with delivery emergency and complications. On the other hand, the same statistics claim
that for the hospital based deliveries, only 1.8 of one thousand babies faced birth related defects
(Mathews, Curtin through Friday, 2015). The statists also point out that there is a high risk of
deficiency when the baby is born at home than when born in the hospital environment. The defects as
result of childbirth related complication are high in midwives attended birth than those delivery
process carried out in hospital when there is an emergency. Statisticians document 7 defects per one
thousand deliveries that have associated birth complications with deliveries attended by midwives.
According to the statistics done in the years 2016 by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention,
the home delivery has gained favors than hospital delivery in the recent time. This implies that as

All About Covalent Bonding ! Valence Electrons
All About Covalent Bonding! Valence Electrons All About Ionic Bonding!
 Covalent bonding is when electrons are shared by atoms, which enables the atoms to gain more
stability.
 Covalent bonding is done between two nonmetal atoms.
 Molecules that are covalently bonded have low melting points because the electrons are being
shared. Plus, they are terrible conductors of electricity, because the molecule is made up of nonmetals.
 Covalent bonds can have three types of bonds, a single bond. A double bond, and a triple bond.

By sharing these valence electrons, it creates a full electron shell. o Demonstration: H2O, the water
molecule is the perfect example of how covalent bonding uses valence electrons to create a full
electron shell. Oxygen has six electrons on the energy level 2p. For that energy level to be full, it can
have two more electrons. Therefore, two hydrogens bond with that one oxygen, to ensure its stability.
Hydrogen bonds with the oxygen because in order for hydrogen s outermost shell (1s) to be filled, it
needs one electron to be shared with it. So, oxygen shares one electron with each of the two
hydrogens, and the two hydrogens hare its one electron with the one oxygen.
 Atoms that use ionic bonding transfer valence electrons. Metals give nonmetals electrons, which
make the metals positively charged, which is called a cation. Nonmetals receive electrons from metals
which make the nonmetals negatively charged which is called an

Birthright Citizenship
Abuse the Use of the Birthright Citizenship
George Frederick Will, born in 1941, is a political journalist and television commentator. Will
attended prestigious colleges like Trinity College, Oxford University, and Princeton University. He
was very well educated in politics and educated students from Michigan State University and the
University of Toronto. His essay Subject to Interpretation , displays his opinion about whether
children of illegal immigrants born in the United States should be given the power of birthright
citizenship. Will gives his idea of how undocumented immigrants view their idea of birthright
citizenship as a free ticket to the United States. United States born children of undocumented
immigrants should not automatically be granted citizenship because the undocumented immigrants are
abusing the power of the granted citizenship.
In the United States, undocumented immigrants use the power of the granted citizenship to their
advantage because they want what s best for themselves and their child. Lino Graglia, a professor at
the University of Texas, wrote to a parent from a poor country: ...can hardly do more for a child than
make him or her an American citizen, entitled to all the advantages of the American welfare state (Will

immigrants remain in the U.S to receive government benefits. The parent from the poor country

Analysis Of The Film Wadjda
Interested in your father s glorious family tree? You aren t included, it only includes men s names. In
the film Wadjda , directed by Haifaa Al Mansour, a girl named Wadjda from the male dominated
culture of Saudi Arabia sees a green bike that she strives her hardest to own. Although could the bike
be a metaphor for something deeper? Some may say the bike is nothing more than a plain old bike, but
in this essay, I will discuss how and why the green bike symbolises more than a mere green bike. The
focus will be on the significance of the bike, why it has been chosen to act as the metaphor, and
how/why the director has chosen it to show that Wadjda is subversive.
In the movie, there is a green bike Wadjda desperately wants, although it challenges the norms of her
society. The director Haifaa Al Mansour uses the bike to not only represent a transportation device, but
also a metaphor for freedom. Wadjda s main goal in the movie is to own the bike. However, ownership
of the bike for a girl challenges the cultural norms of Saudi Arabia. This means that for her to own it,
in a sense, signifies breaking through the barrier of the Saudi Arabian expectations and entering
freedom. Thus, making it a metaphor for freedom and equality. The film director explains this in an
interview that came out shortly after the movie in 2012. Why would the director choose a bike to act
as the metaphor, you may ask yourself?
Haifaa Al Mansour uses the bike to act as a metaphor over everything else

Harry Potter Myths
Mythology is an elusive connection to the past. Some stories are warped over time, fairy tales have
been retold for hundreds of years. Classic monsters, like werewolves, are particularly subject to
change as each author put their own spin on the legends. In the end, the result is a complex history
with multiple contradictions. The Harry Potter books incorporate aspects of mythology but
specifically attempt to adapt these classic creatures to modern day as well as explain the science
behind the myth. Harry Potter has multiple characters that are werewolves. Not only does the story
hint at the complex history of this creature, the author puts a political spin on her werewolves. But the

be useful against a werewolf because of its connections to silver. Completely destroying the heart or

How Does Islam Affect Iraq
Islam has affected world history, people and, countries all over the world. Two of the many countries
that Islam has affected are Iraq and Iran.
Many things are impacted by Islam in Iraq. One of the effects Islam has on Muslims in Iraq is the way
people dress. Islam persuades people to wear more modest clothes such as robes. As cited by Bovahn:
Muslims show religion through, dress... . Also, it is customary to grow a beard in Iraq. Another way
that Islam affects life in Iraq was that Islam can manipulate a Muslim s diet by restricting them from
eating pork consequently removing pork dishes from their diet. One of the ways that Islam can affect

Statistically, he probably does. Men need to understand the concept of cheating thoroughly. Men want
to have sex with as many attractive women as possible and women want, ultimately, have a man
committed to her emotionally and sexually, excluding all other women. Biology dictates both wants
and society enforces and enables both sexes to achieve these wants. When I mention women in this
article, I do not necessarily include modern women . That is, women who are financially independent
and do not have nor feel the need to depend on men for anything. I ll be first to admit that our society
is rapidly changing and a lot of this article will be generalities. Generalities, but ultimately, the
undeniable truth. Its your choice as a man as to how you view your relationships with women. For, the
curious, yes I ve cheated plenty.
1) Its in your nature as a man: A healthy male produces billions and billion of sperm each time he
ejaculates. He recovers within a few minutes to an hour and is again ready to produce billions of
sperm. Women produce one or two eggs at a time and are only able to get pregnant mostly through
middle age. Most men can produce healthy sperm too the day their heart stops beating. No biological
clock for males. Biology naturally dictates that he impregnate as many healthy females as possible.

Rape of the Lock by Alexander Pope Essay
Rape of the Lock by Alexander Pope
Alexander Pope s The Rape of the Lock is not studied and admired only because of its style and form,
but also for its base content and underlying themes. Pope s ability to manipulate text into mock heroic
form, constructing a flow of satirical description is what makes this poem one of such quality.
The piece was first published in 1712 by the request of Pope s friend, John Caryll. It was to make
peace between the Fermors and Petres, two prominent Roman Catholic families at the time. The feud
was supposedly caused by an incident at a card game that ended with Lord Petre cutting a lock from
the hair of lovely Arabella Fermor. Caryll had hoped that Pope wrote a poem that would sooth the

Pope s over exaggeration of Belinda s preparation accomplishes his intended goal of revealing how
worthless he believes these duties to be.
It is also necessary to discuss the fact that Pope seems to realize that the extreme vanity is caused by
his own gender. If Belinda s preparations are not for her male acquaintances, then why? Speaking
through Clarissa, Pope allows the reader to take a step away from satire with a taste of sensibility,
How vain are the Glories, all our Pains, / Unless good sense preserve what beauty gains.... (N. 1) Here
the author seems to be pushing for a lack of shallowness in the opposite sex.
Using The Rape of the Lock, Pope has criticized and attempted to explain the problem he himself sees
in society s view of women and women s view of themselves. It is also apparent that he has attempted
to understand the situation. Pope reveals a hint of sensitivity within the maze of critical satire:
Nature to your undoing arms mankind With strength of body, artifice of mind; But gives your feeble
sex, made up of fears, No guard but virtue, no redress but tears. Yet custom (Seldom to your favour
gain d) Absolves the virgin when by force constrain d....(N. 1)
Is the author searching for female readers to appreciate his sensitivity, or more likely, looking for some
realization from his male peers? The Rape of the Lock can be, and has been, examined on

Wizard of Oz Cinema
Wizard of oz Film As A Work Of Art According to Film Art, it consists of setting, costume and
makeup, lighting, and staging (Bordwell 115). In The Wizard of OZ these aspects of Mise en Scene all
come together to make up a spectacular viewing experience. Created in 1939 and directed by Victor
Fleming, The Wizard of Oz was one of the first successful Technicolor films. Since this film was shot
primarily in color, it gave the directors and costume designers many new opportunities to use color in
ways that they hadn t been able to before. The main point I will be demonstrating is how the
filmmakers effectively used color and costuming to convey certain feelings and messages throughout
the film. The opening scene of Oz was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was an extremely intricate process to handle and required enormous amounts of light to properly
expose. While it was the most expensive process available to Hollywood at the time, it yielded an
unequaled color quality. The studio chose the three strip process because it worked out well with black
and white stock. The framing of Dorothy s fantasy was processed in black and white, heightening the
effect of the Technicolor journey to Oz. The fact that the three strip process originated in a black and
white stock made this easier. For these reasons production occurred entirely indoors on the sound
stages of MGM. Because of the large set, as many as nine cameras hidden in bushes or potted plants
would be used to film one scene. The hidden cameras took close ups, while the main camera, used to
capture the whole scene, was on the end of a boom and was constantly moving. The extensive lighting
equipment necessary for Technicolor photography in 1939 is very apparent in these behind the scenes
shots. Banks of lights lined the floor of the stages and the catwalks above the actors and made the set
uncomfortably hot, especially for the actors wearing heavy costumes. Because the film was studio
bound, a lot of responsibility fell on the special effects department. Mattes were used extensively to
give depth to the Kansas landscape, and a sense of distance to the Land of Oz. Intricate trick
photography was employed to allow a

The Virginia Statue For Religious Freedom Essay
In 1832, a contractor that went by the name of Philip Duffy owned a stretch of a railroad line about
thirty miles west of Philadelphia, Mile 59. He hired countless Irish Catholic immigrants to work for
him and continue to build the line for the Philadelphia and Columbia railroad, now connecting
Philadelphia to the Main Line. Not only were the working conditions terrible, with the wooded hills
and ravines, but less than two months after the workers came to Philadelphia, they were assumed to
have died from the Cholera outbreak that was a worldwide pandemic for the second time.
On June 23, Duffy met an arriving bark called the John Stamp on the Philadelphia docks that had
sailed from Derry in April with a shipload of Irish laborers, mainly Catholics from Donegal, Tyrone,
and Derry. He acquired his work crew for mile 59 primarily from the men of the John Stamp. The site

Maybe the societal events have shaped our views on certain religions, but it does not mean that we
need to belittle and destroy what keeps people together, what gives them a reason to be. In the Virginia

No man shall be compelled to frequent or support any religious worship, place, or ministry
whatsoever, nor shall be enforced, restrained, molested, or burthened in his body or goods, nor shall

option ensured that it would be a top priority to maintain the flow for existing diversions, as well as

concluded that the commission will manage any land and water that would be acquired through
leasing, purchase of transfer of title. My Strategy A continuous process, I assessed the various conflict
styles, as well as how each individual role conflict style would interact with the styles of the other
parties involved (which I will expand on in the next section). It was important for me to also assess
my own style in relation to my role and any predetermined bias (considering my individual
background) that I might have. This meant that my own environmentally conscious views could not
influence the way in which I negotiated when representing the Irrigators group, as they were pushing
for things such as more water to produce food and crops. Being aware of this helped me assert my
interests when the other parties would try to sway for other options (which happened often). There
were only a few cases where I built coalitions with Pat and Chi. Aside from that, the coalition forming
and grouping happened more amongst the others. Because of my directing type behavior in this
negotiation, I believe that I was able to advocate more vocally than the others at times

THE CONTEXT OF TALENT MANAGEMENT
As South Africa embarks on it s journey into the second decade of democracy, few can argue that
tremendous strides have been made on the political, economic, social and legislative fronts. Much of
our legislation and policy directions are amongst the most progressive in the world. However, many
challenges remain. One of these is the shortage of professional and managerial skills and the
imbalances in terms of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This manifests itself at 2 levels. Firstly, firms soon reach a state of overload. Deadlines are missed,
standards and quality of work drop and a vicious cycle emerges and feeds on itself. This is a very
common phenomenon with small and medium sized professional firms. They do not have the capacity
to manage their growth or the peaks and valleys associated with the modern business world. Secondly,
the firm is so consumed with meeting operational deadlines that it loses it s ability to keep up to date
with latest best practice, legislation or other issues demanding new skills. In this case clients will soon
recognise that mistakes are made due to lack of currency of skills. These are some of the more visible
risks to firms who do not pay attention to the attraction, growth and retention of key talent. Beyond
the visible, other manifestations of the problem arise. Staff morale declines because leadership talent
is absent and this energy drop is transferred to the client. Internal politics and protection of territory or
unwillingness to share information and surface problems affect the functioning of the firm. All of
these things affect the ability of the organisation to offer great service and take advantage of
opportunities to grow.

Why Canada Entered Into Trade Agreement With United States
The term trade can defined as the movement of goods and consumables across the boundaries of the
two regions in order to promote the access to items which are distinct in one region but surplus in the
other. The international trade is as old as the history of mankind. Earlier when there was no concept of
countries, the trade simply meant the movement of goods to far distant places. As soon as man
realized that an access is needed to items that are not available in his region, he travelled and found
them abroad. Now the difficulty was to gain control over those items while maintaining peace. This
was how, the term barter and trade came into existence and people started to enter into agreements to
transfer goods for goods or goods for money. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main reason for such a strong opposition was supported by the belief of the opposition that
Canada will lose its internal autonomy and become one of the US s 51st state . They also had the
concern that such an agreement will demolish their personal interests with regard to the foreign
policies and other existing trade agreements with other countries.
As every step taken by a government is to ensure the well being of its nation and the prosperity of the
country, Canada was pushed by the same driving force to make a trade deal with US. Since the
primary purpose and advantage offered by a free trade agreement is to exploit the no tariff trade, it
was not the goal of Canadian government while seeking this agreement. The trade tariffs were already
very low, around 1% of the total value of the trade, then a question arises that what Canadian
government was aiming for.
It was the vast economy of the American market which was the target of Canadian government.
Canada desired to get an unrestricted access to the vast economy of US. While on the other side, US
were aiming to get cheap access to the cultural industries as well Energy sector of Canada. This is the
basic essence of a trading relationship where the interests of every party is respected and agreed upon.
According to an estimate, almost 70% of the Canadian export takes place to US markets and similarly,
almost 70% of its imports are from

The Reasons For The European Age Of Exploration
The European Age of Exploration, a period from the early 15th century continuing into the 17th
century, brought about expansion, technology, and nation building with explorer ships traveling the
seas in a search for a new trading routes and new land. There was a multitude of motivations for the
European nations want to fund explorers who desired to take on the challenges of exploration. Though
the motives for exploration were different, in many ways they were the same. The rulers and leaders
of the European nations had much the same main motivations driving the push for exploration. The
driving motivations of European exploration were the acquiring of wealth, the want for glory, the
search for new and ease of trade routes, the need of natural resources, and the spreading of religion.
Competition between the Portuguese and the Spanish motivated both nations to seek colonization of
the New World quickly and aggressively. Prince Henry the Navigator spearheaded Portugal s
exploration of Africa and the Atlantic in the 1400s [Saylor]. Portuguese sailors successfully navigated
an eastward route to West Africa, where they established a trading foothold. Portugal then spread its
empire down the western coast of Africa to the Congo, along the western coast of India, and
eventually to Brazil and the Atlantic islands. While the Portuguese did not rule over a large mass of
multiple colonies, their strategic holdings of islands and coastal ports gave them almost unrivaled

The Causes for the Rebellion of 1837 1838
The rebellions of Upper and Lower Canada were in the interests of self government but were doomed
to failure from their beginning. Each of these two colonies encountered a great deal of problems right
from the institution of the Constitution Act of 1791 and the problems continually got worse until the
only choice to some seem to be rebellion. There were several problems that lead to the rebellions of
1837 38. In Lower Canada there was the agricultural crisis that caused a large number of starvations,

The next major issue was that of immigration which brought tens of millions of people from Europe.
These people would be heading to the United States, Upper Canada or Lower Canada. When these
immigrants came they would land in Quebec and with them they would bring disease that killed a
large amount of French Canadians. This aggravated the French people because they saw this as a plot
of the English to get rid of the French Canadians . Adding to these problems was the establishment of
the British America Land Company. This new land company was given over 500 acres of Lower
Canada s prime land. The company would not allow French people to buy this land; only the English
and Americans could purchase the land. The French people found it increasingly difficult to get land
and the government wasn t doing anything about this. All of these problems lead to the assembly
issuing the ninety two resolutions that had two main points that were responsible government and
control of money. The ruling English class didn t want the French people to gain this power because
they wanted to French to remain oppressed and out of the upper class The Chateau Clique in Lower
Canada wanted to prevent the French from winning complete control over the government and
English speaking people would be under the control of the French. The response to the ninety two
resolutions was the issuing of the ten resolutions from Britain that stated that there would be no

Ralph Waldo Emerson Rhetorical Analysis Essay
The attitude of the narrator in the prose passage by Ralph Waldo Emerson towards nature is that of
pure admiration. He is very found of nature and appreciates its ethereal beauty. Emerson makes use of
the literary devices of metaphor, symbolism and personification to help readers understand this
admiration.
One example of a metaphor Emerson uses is when he states that nature never wears a mean
appearance (Emerson). This line is an oxymoron. Since nature is, in fact, violent, and ruthless. With
natural disasters that have no regard for the Earth s many inhabitants. After a storm when everything
settles there is a re birth. All of the plants and animals come back with an exuberance to start over.
This may really appeal to the audience because most have witnessed the destructive power of nature,
but have been able to come back stronger and with a new lease on life.
The sun envelops everything in a warm blanket of rays, healing everything it touches. The sun is a
powerful star and man fails to see its sheer beauty. Children see the sun for what it does to, spark
imagination and hope. The next example of Emerson s effective use of metaphor is when Emerson ...

with this line is that believing in something whatever that may be can provide someone with

Emerson uses to convey his relationship with nature, would be when he describes himself as being a
transparent eyeball; being able to see everything. There is no filter with what he is seeing. The narrator

  • 2. The Female Body By Margaret Atwood Existence of Serving and Survival in The Female Body by Margaret Atwood Even though humans all have the same label, preferential treatment resides with the males. This is especially true in The Female Body by Margaret Atwood. Considering the society s perception of how interaction between races and genders should be, white males are at the top of the social hierarchy. In this hierarchy, the white are above the coloured and the men are above the females. Hence, women are given selective and limiting freedom and yet men are also limited by society to the point that most men do not realise they have limitations placed upon them. Nevertheless men and women do not live their lives, they survive and yet men seem to enjoy life. Therefore women are marionettes, men are puppets and society is the puppeteer. There s a wide range (38) of marionettes and to the men in society; they must have one. A wife that men will select from many; like selecting an item from the vast versions of the same product. Women are a commodity that all men eligible for marriage will receive. Hence, women are degraded to as if it were flesh and blood (38); they are not even considered as humans, but a topic (38) that has the appearance of a human. Atwood also mentions that female bodies need maintenance like a car would; a woman that is not human and a female that wants to be more than surviving. Women are objectified even further by pleasure not being a requirement. Indicating that women are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Guilt In Vera Claythorne, And Then There Were None Ten little soldier boys went out to dine; One choked his little self and then there were Nine...One little soldier boy left all alone; he went and hanged himself And then there were None (Green). A group of 10 strangers are sent to the mysterious Soldier Island for a so called vacation. What they don t know is that there is one murderer among them. During their first night on the island, a mysterious record reveals the darkest secret of each person, they are murderers. Soon after that, the first murder is committed and death is among them. As the crowd of ten diminishes, the china soldiers on the table do as well, until there are none. In And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie, the theme of guilt is portrayed when Vera Claythorne hangs herself, when the record is played on the gramophone, and when Miss Emily Brent has flashbacks. Throughout the whole book, Vera Claythorne s guilt builds up, and she reaches her breaking point after she kills Philip Lombard. After Vera kills Phillip because she fears that he is the murder, Vera then treks back up to the lengthy mansion, going into her room and hanging herself because of the mass amounts of guilt that she faces. As the narrator states, She climbed up on the chair, her eyes staring in front of her like a sleepwalker s. She adjusted the noose around her neck... She kicked the chair away (Christie 287). • 5. Special Olympics Field Report Over the weekend i did the last seven hours of community service at the special olympics hosted in hampton bays. During the event i helped out in a bunch of events. First, all of the volunteers lined up at the tunnel and cheered each team on running through. Next me and the rest of the volunteers took their seats for the opening ceremonies where the athletes sang the national anthem and carried out the torch. After that i went back to my tent where i would help the athletes in different events like the softball throw, javelin throw and tennis ball throw. All of the baseball players were assigned the same tent while other volunteers helped out with the 100m sprints and relay races on the track. My job was to take each athlete with a clipboard down to the place where they would throw, then record their distance where the ball first touched the ground, and then bring the athletes to the scoring tables. After bringing them to the table, i would return to the tent with the scoreboard and wait for the next athlete to repeat the process. Some athletes could throw the balls 3 feet and some could throw the balls further than some of the baseball players. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I felt real good after helping out the special needs athletes because i knew that this affected a lot more people that i even knew it could, and i was happy to help. I feel like i made a difference helping out the athletes and made them feel good about themselves. In the future i can see myself volunteer at the same event or others like it that help others in ... According to Jasemi, Zamanzadeh, Valizadeh, Keogh, and Taleghani (2015), holistic care increases self awareness and self confidence in patients and causes nurses to better understand the effects of an illness on a person s entire life and their true needs (p.214). As a new provider, it is important to understand that holistic care may result in various outcomes. Some patients will not have a full recovery from an illness or disease. The philosophy of holistic care is utilized at all stages of life. The final stage is a perfect example. Every patient deserves to die with peace and dignity, and they deserve to live as independently as possible until that day. The use of massage therapy, acupuncture, chiropractic care, and naturopathy will be seen when utilizing holistic care. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was an extremely intricate process to handle and required enormous amounts of light to properly expose. While it was the most expensive process available to Hollywood at the time, it yielded an unequaled color quality. The studio chose the three strip process because it worked out well with black and white stock. The framing of Dorothy s fantasy was processed in black and white, heightening the effect of the Technicolor journey to Oz. The fact that the three strip process originated in a black and white stock made this easier. For these reasons production occurred entirely indoors on the sound stages of MGM. Because of the large set, as many as nine cameras hidden in bushes or potted plants would be used to film one scene. The hidden cameras took close ups, while the main camera, used to capture the whole scene, was on the end of a boom and was constantly moving. The extensive lighting equipment necessary for Technicolor photography in 1939 is very apparent in these behind the scenes shots. Banks of lights lined the floor of the stages and the catwalks above the actors and made the set uncomfortably hot, especially for the actors wearing heavy costumes. Because the film was studio bound, a lot of responsibility fell on the special effects department. Mattes were used extensively to give depth to the Kansas landscape, and a sense of distance to the Land of Oz. Intricate trick photography was employed to allow a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. The Virginia Statue For Religious Freedom Essay In 1832, a contractor that went by the name of Philip Duffy owned a stretch of a railroad line about thirty miles west of Philadelphia, Mile 59. He hired countless Irish Catholic immigrants to work for him and continue to build the line for the Philadelphia and Columbia railroad, now connecting Philadelphia to the Main Line. Not only were the working conditions terrible, with the wooded hills and ravines, but less than two months after the workers came to Philadelphia, they were assumed to have died from the Cholera outbreak that was a worldwide pandemic for the second time. On June 23, Duffy met an arriving bark called the John Stamp on the Philadelphia docks that had sailed from Derry in April with a shipload of Irish laborers, mainly Catholics from Donegal, Tyrone, and Derry. He acquired his work crew for mile 59 primarily from the men of the John Stamp. The site eventually was named Duffy s Cut for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Maybe the societal events have shaped our views on certain religions, but it does not mean that we need to belittle and destroy what keeps people together, what gives them a reason to be. In the Virginia Statue for Religious Freedom, Thomas Jefferson stated that No man shall be compelled to frequent or support any religious worship, place, or ministry whatsoever, nor shall be enforced, restrained, molested, or burthened in his body or goods, nor shall otherwise suffer, on account of his religious opinions or belief; but that all men shall be free to profess, and by argument to maintain, their opinions in matters of religion, and that the same shall in no wise diminish, enlarge, or affect their civil capacities. If that was an established idea, and later written in the First Amendment of the National Constitution, is it not our duty as Americans to allow people to believe in what they want? Thus, the following information is from the pictures that I took from the blackboard (the single text that we agreed upon), and what I remember from my notes to fill in the gaps: For Issue 1 we agreed on Option 1, which was to maintain and enhance the water supply . This option ensured that it would be a top priority to maintain the flow for existing diversions, as well as making sure that no further harm happens. It is important to note that we agreed to add a scientific monitoring system to ensure that there is still a pollution limit. Furthermore, we agreed to have some storage monitoring in place. If the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Much like the last option, inclusivity was also agreed upon; all of the parties involved agreed to be a part of the local commision, as they will be developing joint research studies and monitoring. It was concluded that the commission will manage any land and water that would be acquired through leasing, purchase of transfer of title. My Strategy A continuous process, I assessed the various conflict styles, as well as how each individual role conflict style would interact with the styles of the other parties involved (which I will expand on in the next section). It was important for me to also assess my own style in relation to my role and any predetermined bias (considering my individual background) that I might have. This meant that my own environmentally conscious views could not influence the way in which I negotiated when representing the Irrigators group, as they were pushing for things such as more water to produce food and crops. Being aware of this helped me assert my interests when the other parties would try to sway for other options (which happened often). There were only a few cases where I built coalitions with Pat and Chi. Aside from that, the coalition forming and grouping happened more amongst the others. Because of my directing type behavior in this negotiation, I believe that I was able to advocate more vocally than the others at times ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

THE CONTEXT OF TALENT MANAGEMENT As South Africa embarks on it s journey into the second decade of democracy, few can argue that tremendous strides have been made on the political, economic, social and legislative fronts. Much of our legislation and policy directions are amongst the most progressive in the world. However, many challenges remain. One of these is the shortage of professional and managerial skills and the imbalances in terms of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This manifests itself at 2 levels. Firstly, firms soon reach a state of overload. Deadlines are missed, standards and quality of work drop and a vicious cycle emerges and feeds on itself. This is a very common phenomenon with small and medium sized professional firms. They do not have the capacity to manage their growth or the peaks and valleys associated with the modern business world. Secondly, the firm is so consumed with meeting operational deadlines that it loses it s ability to keep up to date with latest best practice, legislation or other issues demanding new skills. In this case clients will soon recognise that mistakes are made due to lack of currency of skills. These are some of the more visible risks to firms who do not pay attention to the attraction, growth and retention of key talent. Beyond the visible, other manifestations of the problem arise. Staff morale declines because leadership talent is absent and this energy drop is transferred to the client. Internal politics and protection of territory or unwillingness to share information and surface problems affect the functioning of the firm. All of these things affect the ability of the organisation to offer great service and take advantage of opportunities to grow. Talent Management 3 BUILDING THE EMPLOYMENT BRAND Building an employment brand or reputation is as important in the war for talent as building a reputation or brand for clients.

  • 34. Why Canada Entered Into Trade Agreement With United States The term trade can defined as the movement of goods and consumables across the boundaries of the two regions in order to promote the access to items which are distinct in one region but surplus in the other. The international trade is as old as the history of mankind. Earlier when there was no concept of countries, the trade simply meant the movement of goods to far distant places. As soon as man realized that an access is needed to items that are not available in his region, he travelled and found them abroad. Now the difficulty was to gain control over those items while maintaining peace. This was how, the term barter and trade came into existence and people started to enter into agreements to transfer goods for goods or goods for money. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main reason for such a strong opposition was supported by the belief of the opposition that Canada will lose its internal autonomy and become one of the US s 51st state . They also had the concern that such an agreement will demolish their personal interests with regard to the foreign policies and other existing trade agreements with other countries. As every step taken by a government is to ensure the well being of its nation and the prosperity of the country, Canada was pushed by the same driving force to make a trade deal with US. Since the primary purpose and advantage offered by a free trade agreement is to exploit the no tariff trade, it was not the goal of Canadian government while seeking this agreement. The trade tariffs were already very low, around 1% of the total value of the trade, then a question arises that what Canadian government was aiming for. It was the vast economy of the American market which was the target of Canadian government. Canada desired to get an unrestricted access to the vast economy of US. While on the other side, US were aiming to get cheap access to the cultural industries as well Energy sector of Canada. This is the basic essence of a trading relationship where the interests of every party is respected and agreed upon. According to an estimate, almost 70% of the Canadian export takes place to US markets and similarly, almost 70% of its imports are from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Reasons For The European Age Of Exploration The European Age of Exploration, a period from the early 15th century continuing into the 17th century, brought about expansion, technology, and nation building with explorer ships traveling the seas in a search for a new trading routes and new land. There was a multitude of motivations for the European nations want to fund explorers who desired to take on the challenges of exploration. Though the motives for exploration were different, in many ways they were the same. The rulers and leaders of the European nations had much the same main motivations driving the push for exploration. The driving motivations of European exploration were the acquiring of wealth, the want for glory, the search for new and ease of trade routes, the need of natural resources, and the spreading of religion. Competition between the Portuguese and the Spanish motivated both nations to seek colonization of the New World quickly and aggressively. Prince Henry the Navigator spearheaded Portugal s exploration of Africa and the Atlantic in the 1400s [Saylor]. Portuguese sailors successfully navigated an eastward route to West Africa, where they established a trading foothold. Portugal then spread its empire down the western coast of Africa to the Congo, along the western coast of India, and eventually to Brazil and the Atlantic islands. While the Portuguese did not rule over a large mass of multiple colonies, their strategic holdings of islands and coastal ports gave them almost unrivaled control of ... The Causes for the Rebellion of 1837-1838 Essay The Causes for the Rebellion of 1837 1838 The rebellions of Upper and Lower Canada were in the interests of self government but were doomed to failure from their beginning. Each of these two colonies encountered a great deal of problems right from the institution of the Constitution Act of 1791 and the problems continually got worse until the only choice to some seem to be rebellion. There were several problems that lead to the rebellions of 1837 38. The next major issue was that of immigration which brought tens of millions of people from Europe. These people would be heading to the United States, Upper Canada or Lower Canada. When these immigrants came they would land in Quebec and with them they would bring disease that killed a large amount of French Canadians. This aggravated the French people because they saw this as a plot of the English to get rid of the French Canadians . Adding to these problems was the establishment of the British America Land Company. This new land company was given over 500 acres of Lower Canada s prime land. The company would not allow French people to buy this land; only the English and Americans could purchase the land. The French people found it increasingly difficult to get land and the government wasn t doing anything about this. All of these problems lead to the assembly issuing the ninety two resolutions that had two main points that were responsible government and control of money. The ruling English class didn t want the French people to gain this power because they wanted to French to remain oppressed and out of the upper class The Chateau Clique in Lower Canada wanted to prevent the French from winning complete control over the government and English speaking people would be under the control of the French. • 37. Ralph Waldo Emerson Rhetorical Analysis Essay The attitude of the narrator in the prose passage by Ralph Waldo Emerson towards nature is that of pure admiration. He is very found of nature and appreciates its ethereal beauty. Emerson makes use of the literary devices of metaphor, symbolism and personification to help readers understand this admiration. One example of a metaphor Emerson uses is when he states that nature never wears a mean appearance (Emerson). This line is an oxymoron. Since nature is, in fact, violent, and ruthless. With natural disasters that have no regard for the Earth s many inhabitants. After a storm when everything settles there is a re birth. All of the plants and animals come back with an exuberance to start over. This may really appeal to the audience because most have witnessed the destructive power of nature, but have been able to come back stronger and with a new lease on life. The sun envelops everything in a warm blanket of rays, healing everything it touches. The sun is a powerful star and man fails to see its sheer beauty. Children see the sun for what it does to, spark imagination and hope. The next example of Emerson s effective use of metaphor is when Emerson ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
