INTRODUCTION
• Communication is having common experience
with others people
• Communication means sharing of ideas and
feelings in a mode of mutuality
• Communication is a process of sharing of
experience.
Definitions
• Edgar Dale define that “communication is the
sharing of ideas and feeling in a mode of
mutuality
• National society for study of communication
defines that “communication is a mutual
exchange of facts , thoughts,opinion or emotion”
• David berlow define that “communication is a
process of interaction of ideas between the
communicator and receiver to arrive at acommon
understanding for mutual benefits”
CLASSROOM COMMUNICATION
• In the words of R.E DE kieffer and
Lee.W.Cochrain, ” Effective teaching
and communication are
synonymous. Therefore ,good
communicator are effective teacher.
Components of communication
1. Sender/encoder/source: sender is a
person/event who provide verbal or non verbal
cues
2. Message/signals :set of verbal/non verbal cues
send by the source
3. Medium /channel: medium are the means used
to convey the message
4. Receiver /decoder: a person who receive the
message or interpret the message
5. Feed back: feedback is the information fed back
from receiver to source.
Types of communication
• Speaking-listening :
• Visualising –observing
• Writing-reading
• Doing-learning
Steps in communication
Ideation by sender

Transmission of message as encoded
Receiving the message
Decoding the message

Factors affecting communication
• FACTORS RELATED TO SENDER
1. Sender perseption of the receiver

6. Person factors like age, interest,health,skill
etc
