The British And Hong Kong
From the outset, the British foundation has complicated the Hong Kong residents identity and
relationship to the rest of China. The Communist Party allowed a one country, two system created an
empire like association of Hong Kong natives to the state of China. The Hong Kong demonstrators
want a free and direct election of the chief executive in 2017 (Wong 2014). Yet, many critics think that
Hong Kong citizens already have a lot of freedoms. While Hong Kong strives for a more democratic
rule, critics form the mainland fear the damage too much democracy can cause to the state. These two
drastic points of view develop under one state due to the different approaches to the social cage.
Although most of Hong Kong s population are ethnically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In contrast to Hong Kong empire relation to China, Beijing residents characterized themselves and
Hong Kong residents as part of a nation state. Beijing residents, especially those who opposed the
Hong Kong protests are very patriotic. The mainland Chinese in their 20s and 30s are stridently
nationalistic and accepting of a government narrative that presents the Communist Party as the only
entity capable of protecting an unwieldy country (Jacobs 2014). The communist party, therefore,
created a very united cohesive power as outline by Mann. Most of the elites of this society fully
support the party. They do not understand how anyone could go against it. This type of mentality
shows a strong social power which will later be use to explain why the protest did not receive support
from mainland China even if there are grievances within this society.
Accordingly, the difference characterizations of the China as either an empire or state might come
from looking at Gorski theory of discipline. One of the more develop examples is protestant ethic
teaching: how religious teachings can lead to a profound transformation of social and institutional life,
a disciplinary revolution, with far reaching consequences

The Myth Of The Sphinx, An Oracle, And An Incestuous...
Oedipus
With all of the myths that have come to life on the big screen, this is one that may never make it. It
can be said that with all of the elements it possess it would be a prime opportunity to bring to life the
different aspects of humanity and its myth. Bringing the myth of the sphinx, an oracle, and an
incestuous family of epic proportions. Each of these different myths played a large role in Greek
mythology and other myths around the world.
Seeking the difference between each evolution of Oedipus s journey and how each aspect defines him.
Sphinxes are seen in many different Greek myths are a part of the Titan class. Exploring their raw
power and intellectual abilities plays into societal desire. Oracles are simple oracle and fortune tellers
depending on the information they are providing. This plays a key role in the perception that man have
about their abilities. And looking into the incestuous family complex that caused the fall of a society.
This is something that has been seen in many cultures under many different situations.
How the Greeks display chaos in Oedipus can be deflected. This myth depict and display different
binding facts about the culture and how it was transferred to written word shows that how people
identified perspective values. It can be said it is all due to the chaos that humans inherently possess.
Discussion
In some cases Sphinx s were used are guardians to great treasures or personal protection (Unknown,

Food Self Provisioning
Food is, quite simply, essential. Without it, life can only exist for a short period of time. How we
manage to produce enough food to survive will have an impact on the environment as the food
systems we use can both contribute to environmental damage and yet be affected by it in turn
(Jehlicka Raghuram, 2013). Given that agriculture contributes a substantial amount of Greenhouse
Gasses (over 50% combined) means that food systems are at the heart of climate change (Jehlicka
Raghuram, 2013). Food systems are the methods by which we produce (farming, agriculture, fishing
etc), process (treat, process, package etc), store (ambient, chilled, frozen and housing), transport
(locally, regionally, globally, air, sea, land etc) and dispose of items ... Show more content on

Food self provisioning represents a very different kind of relationship between humans, food and the
environment. Food self provisioning and sharing the excess are generally social practices with low
environmental impacts; these, in turn, promote social community bonds which are compatible with
sustainability (Jehlicka, 2013b). It requires little research effort, has no governmental intervention
(unless the use of allotments is involved) and practices vary widely around the world. Food self
provisioning is generally environmentally and socially sustainable. It follows that if an individual
changes their agency (whether through a change in values or beliefs or out of conscience) and that
individual then changes their behaviour, they may set a precedent that others then follow. (Jehlicka,
2013b). Research shows that these practices promote local social, ecological and environmental
resilience by strengthening networks of cooperation between families, friends, neighbours and co
workers (Jehlicka, 2013b). Alongside this is the reduction of waste as surplus is distributed amongst
networks that encompass urban and rural family and friends, which also has the added benefit of
reducing excess resource and energy consumption; this is both socially and environmentally
sustainable. It gives practitioners control over what they produce as on a very general level food self
provisioning involves very modest amounts (if any) of fossil fuel based and/or fertilisers and
pesticides. This, along with that fact that little (if any) fossil fuel is used in the transportation of goods
as these will mainly distributed locally (Jehlicka, 2013b). Added to this is that products also tend to
result in much less packaging and waste; even the methods of preservation whether that be drying,
salting, pickling, smoking, fermenting, canning, freezing and dehydrating will often have higher levels

Consequences Of Xenophobia
Throughout the years xenophobia has been a plague that has ravaged the lives of many foreign
nationals in South Africa for years. During April of 2015 the wave of brutal action again made the
cover of the news as it started in KwaZulu Natal and eventually managed to spread through to other
parts of South Africa like Gauteng and Durban. In the following essay I will be doing a literature
review of the meaning of and social consequences of xenophobia. I will also look at the social impact
of xenophobia on both local and foreign people and to finish up my essay, I will give a detailed
summarised report of my findings.
Xenophobia can be broken into two words, xeno meaning strange and or different and phobia from the
Greek language meaning, a persistent illogical fear of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People who are xenophobic may display fear or even rage toward others who are of foreign descent,
even as xenophobia is often used interchangeably with terms such as intolerance and racial
discrimination, these terms have different meanings. Xenophobia has numerous different effects on
the different people suffering through it. These effects range from social to economic. Socially
xenophobia has resulted in despicable acts of violence by black South Africans on other foreign
nationals, with South Africans stating that these foreigners are taking their jobs. These foreign
nationals some of which are shop owners are being ruined by looters who break in and steal simply
because the shop owners are not South African. This brings in the theme of race relations. Are we as
South Africans truly a rainbow nation if we can t even get along with our fellow African brethren?
Because of this, the crime level in South Africa has also risen during the times of these xenophobic
outbreaks, such as in 2008 for example when 60+ people died as a result of xenophobia. South Africa
is the architect its own destruction because of the xenophobic violence plaguing

Essay On How Did The Roman Empire Divide
An Empire Divided When the massive civil conflict finally ended in 284. It was decided the empire
was too strained and large to be governed by one man in one city. It limited military power. And
created pockets where ambitious generals could become usurpers. No one wanted another Crisis. The
empire was split in two. The Western and Eastern Roman Empires, The West contained Rome, and the
provinces west of the Greek peninsula. The East, often called the Byzantine Empire due to the name
of its capital, with everything to the east. While this helped the governing process of Rome it did lead
to the downfall of the Western Empire. When the East split away, Western Rome lost a significant part
of its territory that generated money for the empire. Most of Western Rome was agricultural with the
exception of North Africa and western Hispania. Both of which would later be taken over by the
Vandals. Western Rome could not sustain itself without the support of the Eastern Empire. Religious

Only attacking to regain lost territory. This was a good thing for the Roman military. But, it did cripple
the workhorse of the Roman economy. Slaves. Once the expansion ended, Rome stopped receiving
fresh slaves from the outside. When a slave died, you couldn t really replace them. Less and less work
was getting done in Rome. Its reliance on slavery to do almost all physical labor made the Roman
people themselves weak. They couldn t perform the same tasks to keep money flowing. When The
Vandals took Carthage and North Africa, they also took Rome s last reliable source of income. The
Vandals became pirates, raiding and sabotaging Roman trade throughout the Mediterranean. By the
time the Vandals sacked Rome in 455, in many senses the West did not have its own economy.

Abstract. “Astrobiology Is The Field Of Study Focused On
Abstract
Astrobiology is the field of study focused on searches for life and possible habitats for such life on
other worlds (2014). The science of astrobiology has many areas of study and is important because it
helps us find other places in the universe that could be habitable, determine the potential for habitable
planets beyond the solar system, and understand those planets that we can observe in the universe.
Scientists have many ideas on how to recognize signs of life on other planets (Des Marais et al.,
2008). NASA has done many missions to planets and moons in our solar system and beyond,
searching for life.

Habitable world s research uses the history of life on Earth to discover life on other worlds and how it
might develop. It also searches for life that once existed on dead planets. Research in the area of
emerging worlds tries to understand how the sun and the planets surrounding it developed. Instrument
development programs to see far off worlds involves building satellites and telescopes that can see
distant worlds and distant conditions for habitation ( NASAAstrobiology, n.d. ) Exoplanet research
advances our knowledge and understanding of planets outside of our solar system. Its objectives are
the detection of exoplanets and their characteristics. Planetary protection involves efforts to not
contaminate other planets by introducing hazardous organisms. This keeps other planets in a natural
state and it ensures any organisms found by scientists on other planets did not originate from Earth. It
also involves protecting our planet from organisms from other worlds. This is done by setting
planetary protection policy, designing sterile spacecraft, and planning to protect the Earth from
organisms in returned samples. The goal of the laboratory analysis of returned samples is laboratory

Robots Advantages And Disadvantages
In more details I would say that they need some capabilities such as inference, learning, ... which can
involve thinks that popular opinion will associate to think and feel like we do but that does not mean
they are the same. A robot is not a human just like a plane is not a bird or a car is not a horse. They
may accomplish equivalent tasks but neither are doing it the same way as their counterpart. First for
the way a robot is currently used a self driving car, a drone surveying an area (either for filming or
military purpose), an industrial robot, a planetary rover they are just complex tools meant to do the
hard, dirty or boring things we do not want to or can t do on our own. Having them the ability to infer
is highly beneficial as it means that the user can ask them what to do for example go to the closest
grocery store instead of how to do it for example drive straight for 200 yards, turn left, then drive
straight for 2 miles, ... . having also this inference allow them to be able to recover for unexpected
situation (road is blocked due to an accident) and re plan the best course of action accordingly. And
this example just talk about path planning, this can go further for more high level tasks which involves
more than simple motion (for example a home service robot that does simple chore at home such as
setting your dinner table, ...). So in that sense the robot need to be able to think in the sense that it
needs to refine high abstraction

The Good Earth Sparknotes
The Good Earth The book begins with the main character Wang Lung waking up on his wedding day,
preparing to be wed to a slave of the rich house of Hwang. His father is disapproving of Wang Lung s
feeling to impress his soon to be wife. The chinese culture at the time emphasised the role of a wife is
to serve the husband, even if the husband is just a poor farmer. As Wang Lung and O lan progress in
their marriage, O lan works feverishly to help Wang Lung in the fields. This eventually leads to a
slight increase in wealth and social class along with the birth of their first born son. Wang Lung and O
lan continue to work the fields, gain wealth and have another son and their first daughter. Soon after
the birth of their third child a great famine hits the town of Wang Lung and the entire household
decides to trek north in hopes of finding food in the extravagant city. Once reaching the city, O lan and
the children beg and steal for food while Wang Lung works to provide money. After narrowly
avoiding seizure because of a war in the region, all the jobs dry up and Wang Lung starts to debate
selling his youngest child t pay for travel back to his homeland. Then a fellow beggar announces that
the great palace gates are open and Wang Lung rushes in and seizes enough gold to fund his travel
back to his land without selling any of his children. When Wang Lung arrives back home, his house is
empty but he uses his leftover money from the palace to start tending the fields immediately.

Street Fight Movie Analysis
PART I: STREET FIGHT
The documentary Street Fight directed by Marshall Curry covered a boisterous 2002 campaign in
Newark, New Jersey, against a young city councilor Cory Booker verses the cities longest serving
major running for a re election James Sharpe. During the entire documentary there were multiple
points regarding politics and political power. In the beginning of the movie it was noted that some
citizens were afraid to support Booker because they feared being targeted and possibly losing their
homes or businesses. Even though Booker attempted to beat the Sharpe, he was nowhere near as
entrenched and politically connected Sharpe. With the stark difference in the demographics each
runner was targeting it became apparent that Booker was viewed as an outsider to the suburban
residents of Newark that believed Sharpe would be the best candidate to become mayor. With that in
mind, it is clear that social class adds a dimension into consideration of civic engagement (Losco 12).
In my opinion, due to Sharpe s vast influence to achieve his desired goals would be considered a
ruling elite. Paraphrasing from Losco page 5, Sharpe had access to government officials to become re
elected as a government official himself. In the AM GOV text it states, Although citizens may not
agree with specific government policies, they will support as legitimate, or lawful, policies founded
upon accepted contracts and standards. (Losco 5). This can be connected to the documentary by noting

Advantages Of Traditional Public Administration
New Public Management is an alternative to the traditional public administration . Discuss.
ABSTRACT
The newly elected Government of Mauritius clearly laid down its ambitions regarding Public
Administration in the Government Programme 2015 2019. The public sector will be re organised and
reformed to make it more productive, transparent, accountable and customer friendly. A Public Sector
Efficiency Bureau is set up as a department of the newly crafted Ministry of Financial Services, Good
Governance and Institutional Reform (Govt. Programme 2015 19). If it sounded just as the usual
rhetoric from a new government, the 2015 2016 Budget Speech reiterated this determination after
finding out that the country s system for transparency and good governance to be also at the crossroad.
Instead of staying idle with the present system characterised by opacity that breeds corruption, the
government calls to go out for a cleansing that will inject more meritocracy, transparency, good
governance in the management of public affairs (Budget Speech, 2015). The Mauritian government

delivery. This new model of public sector management emerged in the most advanced countries, as
well as in many developing ones, and is regarded by many authors as not a reform of the traditional

Essay On The Importance Of Homeland Security
Importance of Homeland Security
Using risk management to expand the capacity in achieving the objectives of the Department of
Homeland Security is critical to ensure the safety of the United States. In order to strengthen said
objectives to fulfill its mission, the Department of Homeland Security created a Risk Management
Fundamentals that provides a disciplined approach in the distribution and use of risk information
across the entire department. Needless to say, the Department of Homeland Security plays a
demanding aspect in leading the consolidated efforts through the management of the complex set of
risks that face the United States on a day to day basis (Enterprise Risk Management Initiative, 2011).

The committee...concludes that Risk = A Function of Threat, Vulnerability, and Consequences (Risk =
f(T,V,C)) is a philosophically suitable framework for breaking risk into its component elements, (The
National Academic Press, 2016). The article goes on to explain that the equation provided is best
suited for natural and man made hazards, and it isn t considered a new method. However, in terms of
making the equation fit threats that are under other categories, we learn that the risk assessment has
been under construction for many years. Risk = T ×V ×C is not an adequate calculation tool for
estimating risk in the terrorism domain, for which independence of threats, vulnerabilities, and
consequences does not typically hold and feedbacks exist, (The National Academic Press, 2016). The
Department of Homeland Security has shown in reviews that it is feasible to make an estimate on the
provisional anticipation distributions for the T, V, and C in the equation. In other words, there is a
probable way to determine what these areas will be in order to formulate the risk that may be at hand.
When one influence moves it will ultimately affect another influence, so it also cannot be defined so

A Day At A Beach In The Bahamas
When the sun begins to hide behind the horizon there is only one environment on the planet that
harnesses the power to leave oneself in complete and utter awe. This one of a kind place captures all
of the elements in their perfect and most striking form. The sky bolsters with eloquent colors, the
warm sand caresses your toes, and the soothing waves break with the most perfect noise as to not
break your focus on the sunset; it is just as captivating as a north poles aurora borealis. A certain

One can agree that during the day, the beach can be a noisy place: music, kids, and talkative
individuals can all make a difference in the pleasantness of your beach day. During the day in the
Bahamas it is quite loud due to the numerous tourists in the area who want to party and have a good
time, but at dusk, it stops. Little by little the beach gets less populated with clamorous people and feels
more like your own oasis. You begin to hone in on the sounds: the rave music is now more calming; it
is maybe playing reggae or something else soothing. The seagulls seem to chirp less, and you are
suddenly all alone. As you walk down the beach waiting for the sun to set you feel the softness of the
sand, and look back to see how your feet have been molded to become one with the beach. When the
sun sets and the sky radiates comforting colors, you begin to feel different: the beach resonates the
warmth of the sky through your feet, up into your heart. You look around and see the landscape of the
beach has been made lively by the colors of the sky. The rocks blush from the sky s red tint, and the
palm trees look to be slow dancing in the warming breeze. Your body is captured by good feelings and
is hypnotized by the sunset s effect on this beach. There is still one last element to the whole picture

Stay At Home Mom Vs Working Mom Summary
Dr. Phil is the author of the article titled Stay at Home Moms vs. Working Moms on the Dr. Phil
website. The idea of women becoming an active member of the workforce has been quite an issue for
a long time. Before proper child care in the past, there was even a study conducted on children with
working moms to determine the negative impacts mothers in the workforce had on their children, and
they concluded with quite a bit of data. However, this article mentions a new recent study in which
they determined that maternal employment has no detrimental impacts on children. The author s
perspective is obviously in favour of women having the right to work outside of the home and I
wholeheartedly agree with him not just because I m a woman, but because ... Show more content on

People may say that an early relationship must be developed between children and their parents for
proper development, but in the article Dr. Phil argues, children who are in quality day care have
increases in cognitive skills, intellect, social skills and social comfort (Mcgraw 2003). I agree with
what he says since child care services allow children to interact with other children around their age,
allowing them to develop good social skills. Since in the present day, we have good quality child care
services, it s safe to assume that working moms could lead to the greater good. Next, since the
dominant male already plays the role of a provider in the family, sharing this role with the woman in
the family will lower the burden of family responsibilities on both the husband and the wife. Having
two members of the family work will not only benefit the economy, it will also stabilize the family
financially and it will allow the children to spend more time with their father which they wouldn t
have if the father was working all day. Since working mothers leads to such a great benefit financially
and economically, I agree with the author on his perspective about this

The Controversy of Genetic Cloning
Genetic cloning is one of the most controversial topics of all time. People, specifically scientists, are
constantly searching for ways to improve the quality of human life. As a result, they began genetically
engineering animals and are currently in search of a method to genetically engineer humans as well;
which is called human cloning. There are many reasons why people should not go forward with this
step since genetic cloning, consequently human cloning, does not respect nature nor does it ensure
diversity and survival in natural ecosystems. In addition, genetic cloning is a cruel, harsh, and an
unsafe experiment. Genetic cloning is defined as the production of a living being that is exactly
identical to an existing living being from which it will originate. The two main purposes of cloning are
to take a step towards immortality, since one can create an exact younger copy of oneself, and to
rescue endangered species which may be of great medical potential to human beings. Other minor
purposes include having a better sense of identity, hope, and religious freedom. One can study one s
identity better through cloning, since it is always easier for someone to judge other people in front of
them when compared to judging their own selves directly. Hope is brought about through cloning
since scientists would feel like they have mastered every single aspect in life they could give rise to
human beings after all. Two religions, the Raelian Religion and the Summum Religion

The Sex Trade Still Exists
No one said life would be easy. Every day is filled with trials and tribulations which must be

homeless people, families struggling to get by, stock market failing, gas prices rising, unemployment

challenging than our measly problems in this first world country. The sex trade still exists, slavery
among women and children, trafficking of girls and drugs, and so much more. From the book Sold by

Faulty Reasoning Analysis
There are many different faulty reasonings that I was able to find throughout this specific exercise, but
I will focus on the five noticeable examples that I was able to identify. Example 16 states that I know
three redheads who have terrible tempers, and since Annabel has red hair, I ll bet she has a terrible

people. We see that the person is focusing on induction, taking a small portion of a group and giving a
bias conclusion. This is an obvious illogical reasoning because this person is speaking on the account
of experiences with three red headed people. This is problematic because the person is giving us a bias
observation to conclude that all redheads are indeed the same.
I found another illogical statement in number 6 which states that If Lady Gaga uses Truvia, it must
taste better than Splenda. This is an ad populum fallacy because it does not contain a reason for
believing that Truvia tastes better than Splenda. This is problematic because its reasoning is based off
the preference of a celebrity. We have no evidence in this statement that gives us proper reasoning to

Sustainable Tourism In Ugand Principles Of Sustainable...
1. Introduction
Sustainable tourism is a very important element today because it not only meets the needs of the
present but also protecting and increasing opportunities of destinations for the future. Uganda (M.
Semakula M. Kiwanuka, 2017) is a country located in east central Africa, which has diverse
ecosystems such as rainforest jungles, high volcanic mountains on the border or the Albert Nile River
swamps. However, for many years Uganda has stagnated progress and development due to political
problems, environmental degradation and the spread of AIDS epidemic. By the beginning of the 21st
century, Uganda has taken new steps in political stability and gradually resolved its remaining
problems and became Africa s fastest growing economy. This paper is going to discuss about the key
issues and challenges in managing Uganda in term of two principles of sustainable development
(responsibility and responsible citizenship) in context to sustainable host communities and
collaborative partnerships.

in Uganda are deforestation and disappearance of some wildlife. Deforestation is an alarming situation

The Study of Dark Matter
Dark matter is a hypothesized form of matter particle that does not reflect or emit electromagnetic
radiation. The existence of dark matter is inferred from gravitational effects on visible matter, such as
stars and galaxies (Andrew Zimmerman Jones). Dark matter is crucial to the study of the universe and
the existence of the human race. Since either dark matter or dark energy have neither been actually
observed and all theories, we will be evaluating them from scientific standpoint. Since most of the
light in the universe is not seen or can be seen because of the existence of dark matter, no one can
really tell what exactly it is. This is why dark matter is the generic term used to describe the part of the
universe in which light is neither absorbed nor reflected. Through the evaluated articles, we can
deduce that the theory was first proposed by Astronomer Jon Oort in 1932 and further examined in
1933 by Fritz Zwicky. While studying, he made note of a large portion of missing mass within the
galaxy. Jan Oort was studying the matter in the galaxy and noticed that there has to be more mass then
that could be seen but figured that he made an error. Astrophysicist Fritz Zwicky made a similar
observation when using mathematical equations to calculate the mass of the universe and noticed that
there was evidence of invisible matter. Both men basically theorized that there is something in the
universe thats invisible and abundant that provided enough gravity to hold

Imperialism of India by Britain Essay
Imperialism is the domination of one country of the political, economic, or cultural life of another
country. Imperialism is more often than not fueled by two major schools of thought known as
nationalism and Social Darwinism. Nationalism is a feeling of pride and devotion to one s country.
This can drive a person to think that their country is the most powerful, and in essence drives that
person mad with power and a hunger to conquer, which not ironically is exactly what many countries
did. Social Darwinism is the very idea that a more powerful country conquer the smaller countries.
Survival of the fittest, as the well renowned Charles Darwin used to say. Imperialism is also
sometimes sparked by military motives, such as when USA set up ... Show more content on

Then there s the negative which may take away a colony s individuality and spark rebellion. Britain s
a great example because we see an economic growth and a modernization of India, but we also see the
rights of the people slowly fading into the shadows. Britain took over India after a brief struggle with
France; initially to aid in its economy; mainly its textiles. The plan was to have Indians harvest raw
materials to ship back to Britain. Britain would therefore have cheap raw materials sent back to them;
because India was mercantilist (could only trade with the mother country) they did not have much of a
choice but to sell to Britain cheaply. Britain therefore always had a steady source of raw materials
Britain would turn raw materials into finished products that it would ship back to India and sell to
Indians. Prices for goods were low and Indians liked that, but also Britain had a steady source of
income. The most useful Indian industry for Britain was its cotton industry; Britain often used Indian
cotton for clothing. India made for a cheap way to assemble (cheap labor) and an easy way to get
business. For Britain, there was barely a negative side to imperializing in India. British citizen did not
change the way they went about their day at all. Prices of goods dropped which, of course made life
easy, but nobody lost sleep over the colonization. Britain s

Manoeuvrist Approach, Mission Command And OODA Loopist...
In order to be able to answer on those questions it will be necessary firstly to explain basic theoretical
points about Manoeuvrist Approach, Mission command and OODA loop cycle. Throughout history,
military theorists and commanders have attempted to determine and define the most effective way to
defeat an adversary and achieve victory. British military doctrine defines this method as the
Manoeuvrist Approach or indirect approach, which main focus is basically on attacking enemy s
cohesion and will to fight rather than focusing purely on the destruction of his physical component.
The approach itself is based on manoeuvre theory, which relies on speed, deception, surprise, and the

OODA loop (observe orient decide act) is theory presented by American John Boyd and its essence is
to be faster through OODA loop cycle than the enemy. If we can consistently go through the OODA
cycle faster than the enemy, make faster decisions and act before him, we gain an advantage and
enemy loses his cohesion until he can no longer fight as an effective, organized force. However, in
order to be faster than enemy some preconditions have to be achieved. Firstly, according to Boyd, only
decentralized military with application of mission command can have a fast OODA loop. Secondly,
through decentralization, to operate successfully in fog of war we need to accept confusion and
disorder, and also to generate them. Thirdly, while operating in confusion and disorder we need to
avoid all patterns, recipes and formulas, because if our tactics follow predictable patterns, the enemy
can predict our actions and easily cut inside our OODA Loop. And lastly, we should never do the same
thing twice because even if something works well for us once, by the second time the enemy will have

Marching Band As A Sport
Irene was a high school student involved in the marching band. Before high school, students bullied
Irene due to her weight of two hundred pounds. Irene played the clarinet, but she was not sure if she
wanted to join the marching band. The dark memories of people berating her physical appearance
scared her into thinking that her fellow band mates would do the same. Irene desperately wanted to get
into shape so she joined a sport, but knew she was not fit enough for any of the typical ball sports. She
eventually realized that the only sport remaining was marching band.
However, people argue that marching band is not a sport. What is a sport? According to Wood the
definition of a sport involves physical activity and skill where an individual/team competes against
another individual/team and has a set of rules or customs. Marching band is a sport because it involves
a lot of physical activity, rules and competition. The argument against categorizing marching band as a
sport is the typical conditioning a normal sports team would are slightly different.
Irene thought wrong about her teammates bullying her, instead they rallied around her and made her
feel welcome. With marching she was able to get into shape. In the process, she had made 120 or more
friends that she could count on. Marching band is a welcoming sport and open to everyone and anyone
who is willing to work. When someone is in marching band they are part of something big. The people

Religion is a collection of different cultures and words view that relate humanity to spirituality.
Religion is one of the most important efforts to answer the most profound questions of human
existence. Where do we come from? What should we do while we are here? All the people on this

: During each reaction, something happened. During reaction 1, after adding the nitric acid a red
brown gas was created. The copper first turned green after a few minutes turned into a blue solution.
Reaction 2, When acid was added a blue precipitate formed. Reaction 3, when heated the solution
turned into a black precipitate. I noticed that the darker particles were denser than water. Dark
particles began to settle to the bottom. Reaction 4, Sulfuric acid dissolved the black precipitate back to
clear aqua blue liquid. Reaction 5, noticed a yellowish gas (acid) , as the solution was chunky, murky,

Spotted Owl Essay
The spotted owls in western North America still exist today, despite being an endangered species.
There has been plenty of controversy surrounding the species regarding their habitat because their
habitat is desired and used by logging companies. These owls tend to reside in old forests as they
prefer old trees which are also preferred for logging. There has been plenty of controversy on whether
or not logging companies should be put to a halt in forests that these owls reside in, which involve
balancing values of environment and economy. This is mainly due to the fact that logging provides
jobs as well as resources to people, despite the fact that it affects the owls and their ecosystem. It is
debated whether or not owl s habitat and ecosystem should be protected or not for the sake of logging.
Due to unfortunate circumstances, such as logging, the spotted owl s habitat has been declining, thus
resulting in the population to also decline. It has been reported that, there are fewer than 100 pairs of
Northern spotted owls in British Columbia, Canada, 1,200 pairs in Oregon, 560 pairs in northern
California and 500 pairs in the state of Washington. ( Basic Facts About Northern Spotted Owls 2012),
which demonstrates the the small amount of spotted owls left in parts of western North America. This
coincides with the fact that the population is declining five times faster than anticipated under a
British Columbia plan. The population has declined rapidly between 1992 to 2001

Problems To Illegal Immigration
Did you know that immigration is actually good for the society. My sources say that immigration has
been of great social economic and cultural benefit to the U.S. People have always said that there is

immigration. There are many solutions so I researched them to find out what the society can do about
illegal immigrants. Throughout my research my main question I wanted to eventually answer was how
can we solve a real world problem like immigration ? Why aren t there laws that could prevent the
problem of immigration? After all my research it won t be an easy problem to solve but it is worth
solving. People need to know how to stop illegal immigrants from entering this country.
There are many problems in the world including immigration, too many immigrants are entering the
united states illegally and it is causing the population to overflow. Even though this problem is illegal
immigrants so if should only affect illegal immigrants, it unfortunately affects all the immigrants. This
problem of immigration started when people started to want to immigrate to the United States. After
they immigrated they spread word to all their friends of how much of a better life they were having

Pursuit Of Knowledge In Frankenstein
In the gothic novel, Frankenstein, written in 1818, author Mary Shelley tells a blood chilling story of
Victor Frankenstein and his monstrous creation. Many of the main concepts in the Romantic literary
movement are prevalent throughout the novel. Some of these concepts include nature as beauty and
truth, strong personal motivation, and gothicism which inhibits intense emotion and complex
psychology. Victor s monstrous creation can be categorized as a romantic hero because of his
continuous rejection from all forms of society. On the surface level the novel is of suspense and

My First Time In My Life Essay
My first time in Miami
Life sometimes is really complicated. I had born April 16th, 1985 in Ciego de Avila, Cuba. I grew up
in a lovely and warm family. When I got 13 years old, my blue prince arrived at my life. His name is
Luis Ivan, the man who changes my life forever. I did not imagine that one day I will live in another
country. That possibility came to my life when I got married. All my husband s family lives in the
United States and two years after our marriage we decided to move to Miami, Florida. November 21st,
2009 was my first time in Miami and I got an inolvidable experience.
The first hours in Miami were desperate. People announced with applauses the plane landing to Miami
International Airport. I was really nervous, confused and sad. I was lost, I could not recognize
anything. People desperately got off the plane. I continued seated very close to my husband without
saying words because I had a bee buzz in my ears. My husband and I were unique persons in a large
plane, and to be honest, I was not sure about leaving the nave. I remembered when a woman with the
white blouse and navy pants came to us and with a sweet tone of voice said, Good afternoon, my name
is Shyla, I will guide you in this airport. Welcome to the United States. I stood up and walked next to
the girl, but for my surprise, I was inside the airport and I never saw the earth. After minutes walking
for long and frizzing halls, I arrived with my husband to immigration. Once in front of a serious

Due to advancements in surgical intervention mortality rates in neonates with Hypoplastic Left Heart

The blood that does not cross the foramen ovale into the left atrium is emptied into the right ventricle
which is then pumped into the pulmonary artery to be carried to the lungs. The third fetal shunt is
encountered; the ductus arteriosus allows blood to be shunted from the pulmonary artery to the aorta
and systemic arteries following. Blood that does go to the lungs are returned by the pulmonary veins
to the left atrium and emptied into the left ventricle. (Perinatal and Pediatric Respiratory Care, Ch2 p
17 18) Shortly after birth due to changes in vascular resistance blood is redirected to the lungs for
oxygenation and these shunts are no longer required leading to their closure within a few days
postpartum. In HLHS, because the left heart structures are insufficient to receive and pump adequate
amounts of oxygenated blood to supply the tissues the patency of the foramen ovale and the ductus
arteriosus are essential to sustaining life. (PubMed ADAM Medical Encyclopedia, 2013) Medical
intervention is needed to maintain the patency of the ductus arteriosus and an atrial septal defect is
created in place of the foramen ovale.
Pharmacological therapy would include; prostaglandin E1 or E2 to maintain the patency of the ductus

As the saying goes, necessity is the mother of invention. With literally no marketing budget, startups
are forced to seek the optimal and probably most basic way of seeking customers: Focus on who they
are and where they are. You can t spend millions of dollars to build your brand name and mindshare
before influencing the consumers to purchase your product. So, what do you do? You tweak your
product until it meets their needs and you hit the viral button to make growth sky rocket exponentially.
It is a matter of survival for startups. You have no luxury of time nor money as it is a matter of life and
death for your business. The whole company is focused on the same goal: Get the product right for the
customers to justify the existence of the startup.
We now have a term for this: Growth Hacking. This term was coined by Sean Ellis in 2010 where he
blog about a growth hacker as a person whose true north is growth. Everything they do is scrutinized
by its potential impact on scalable growth . This term was introduced by Andrew Chen to

There are four contemporary approaches to management: sociotechnical systems theory, quantitative
management, organizational behavior, and systems theory.
The sociotechnical systems theory was first proven to the U.S. to be effective by the Japanese in the
late 1980s, and it expresses that management should focus on making sure that they have well trained
employees with the right tools and knowledge for the job. In this sense, the employees can put their
heads together and produce innovative products in a productive manner, creating business success.
However, quantitative management takes tides a different direction. It suggests that to be a successful

Lastly, there s the own business s internal environment it has to worry about. How well can it handle
holding its organizations culture, while the managers and employees continue to effectively turn
resources into profits. All of the approaches to management are relevant to the three environments.
Most certainly with its internal environment, which includes the managers and employees.
Organizational behavior immediately addresses to resolving its internal environment s issues by taking
management to a psychological level to increase productivity. Taken positive attitudes to a different
level.
However all companies must be aware of these three environments in order to be successful.
Therefore, all four approaches to management needs to understand and flow with the changes in the
environments. Systems theory is one contemporary approach that immediately takes these
contingencies into consideration with its form of managing. Therefore success in the environments is
achievable by that form of management, yet there are still economic factors that can affect all
businesses. The market system is like a circuit board, when a business is introduces it becomes an

Movement within one s life provides adventure and expansion while further developing ideas and one
s outlook on life. In the novel, the stranger by Albert Camus, we follow the story of a protagonist
named Meursault. Throughout the novel we can contrast the thoughts and outlook of Meursault as he
is both exposed to movement and confinement, highlighting his outlook on life and seeing just how
much of an influence it has on both him and the plot.
At the beginning of the novel, Meursault experiences what most would see as a great and sad loss, the
death of his mother. His mother, who he calls manam lives away from Meursault causing him to travel
to her funeral. This movement and change of routine for Meursault seems to stress him and almost ...

Meursault thinks otherwise initially. He rather waste away in prison as he sees everything in life as

Hiring Richel as the Chief Security Officer was one big step towards a better IT security program at
TJX; he s an executive who understands the harsh and costly consequences of a weak IT security
system and has plans to implement the strongest system possible.
Short term priorities include 1) addressing Mary Smith s letter and taking care of the $5,000 theft, 2)
implement network monitoring, 3) implement logs, 4) encrypt ALL data and minimize the time where
data goes from scrambled to unscrambled , and 5) update all components of the system, both hardware
and software, to the most modern and secure in the industry.
Long term priorities should include minimizing risk by making everyone in the company, not just
top level executives, aware of the potential of another massive attack on their system. The reason why
I think store clerks and managers should be made aware of their respective branch s IT system
(wireless, kiosks, card swipers, etc) is so that they know what an attack looks like when it is
happening. More times than not, the invasion is happening right in front of the cashier s face yet they

Background
There were more than 1,000,000 total hip and knee replacements in the United States in 2010.1
Prosthetic joint infections (PJIs) are a rare complication of joint replacements, estimated to be less
than 2% of cases, but result in significant morbidity and increased healthcare costs.2 Frequently, PJI
requires removal of the prosthesis and a prolonged course of IV antibiotics. It has been estimated that
the cost of one PJI is approximately $100,000 after a hip arthroplasty and $60,000 after a knee
arthroplasty.2 Perioperative prophylactic antibiotics for total joint replacements have been proven to
reduce rates of surgical site infections.2 3 It is recommended that prophylactic antibiotics are
administered within one hour prior to surgical incision and are discontinued within 24 hours following
the end of surgery.4 First generation cephalosporins, such as cefazolin, are the agents most commonly
utilized for antimicrobial prophylaxis in joint replacement procedures.2,5 Vancomycin may be used in
addition to a first generation cephalosporin in institutions considered to have a high rate of methicillin

many people accusing law enforcement agents of being racist. The job of law enforcement is to serve
and protect the people, showing no bias towards any specific race, but this is not always the case.
While many think this is a perfect world where there is no racism, the reality is that everywhere in the
world there is at least one person who is racist. Being a racist is difficult, especially in this day in age.
Today there are all types of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This statistic shows that the officers of the NYPD are judging blacks and assuming they are guilty
before they even gather enough evidence. When black people are arrested, they receive ten percent
longer sentences than white offenders, says the US Sentencing Commission, for the same crime. An
obvious example of bias against black men is to incarcerate black men in jail for longer periods of
time simply because of race. This is clearly a problem in the legal systems of the US. Eventually
someone will get harmed in the middle of this racial discrimination. (Quigley)
On August 4th, 2014, an eighteen year old boy by the name of Michael Brown was killed by Darren
Wilson. Mr. Wilson was an officer of the Ferguson Police Department. He was a twenty eight year old
white male and was accused of killing Michael out of racial hatred. This case was examined but not
enough evidence was accumulated to charge Mr. Wilson with the murder of Michael (Moylan). This
act of violence touched many people s hearts but made many people angry. It was thought that the
FPD was being racist when Michael was killed because of statistic after the investigation. The arrest
rate in seven felonies in the FDP decreased by over fifty percent and the police commissioner stated
that overall crime decreased. (Newsday) After these statistics were reviewed, some thought it was time
for repercussions. This in turn was the reason behind

The Ionic Frieze Of The Parthenon
The ionic frieze of the Parthenon was considered by the Italian traveler and antiquarian Cyriac of
Ancona as one of the noblest images of the Parthenon. The ionic frieze measures some 160 meters, or
524 feet, and is visible along the upper walls of the cella in addition to across the two porches. Cyriac
was one of the first individuals to have sketched the figures on the frieze. The subject of the ionic
frieze according to Cyriac was the victories of the Athenians . The Doric frieze of the Parthenon in the
past presented 92 polychromatic carvings. The building upon which the frieze was built in the ionic
style was Doric. The two styles of design do not mesh, and did not occur at simultaneous periods in
history, making the presence of the ionic frieze something of a mystery. The general meaning of the
frieze at large, comprised of many parts, has thereby been drawn into question. While the frieze in in
superior condition than other elements of the Parthenon, such as the metopes, pediments, and
akroteria, much of it has nonetheless been lost, leaving open room for interpretation. The lack of
consensus over the meaning of the contents of the Parthenon is due in part to the height of the frieze.
Travelers in the 2nd century A.D., centuries before Cyriac, had noted the pediments; however there
was no discussion of the frieze. This may have been due to the fact that the frieze was too high.
Conversely, and as will be explored below, some of the legends therein

Abstract The JPEG 2000 image compression standard is designed for a broad range of data
compression applications. The Discrete Wavelet Transformation (DWT) is central to the signal
analysis and is important in JPEG 2000 and is quite susceptible to computer induced errors. However,
advancements in Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) provide a new vital option for the
efficient implementation of DSP algorithms. The main goal of project is to design multiplier less and
high speed digital filters to design DWT. The convolution and lifting based approach posses hardware
complexity due to multiplier and long critical paths. The Distributed arithmetic architecture is
implemented to achieve multiplier less computation in DWT filtering, it is based on Look up table
approach, which may lead to a reduction of power consumption and the hardware complexity. DA is
basically a bit serial computational operation that forms an inner product of a pair of vectors in a
single direct step. To speed up the process the parallel DA is implemented. In the parallel
implementation, the input is applied sample by sample in a bit parallel form.
Index terms JPEG 2000, DWT, Error Detection, DA. INTRODUCTION

Comparing Duracell Army Adisement And A ToyR. Military...
Many advertisements used today can have similar main ideas, but use details that are opposites. Even
with these differences they can have the ability to get similar points across. This is especially true for
the two advertisements that I chose. I chose to do a Duracell military advertisement and a Toys R Us
military advertisement. Both used pathos (emotion) to appeal to consumers. The advertisements
included a family consisting of two parents and one young child making the main target audience of
both ordinary families, specifically military families with children. The Duracell military
advertisement appeals to the viewer s emotion. In the commercial it starts with a military father sitting
in his bunk with a little stuffed teddy bear. He places the Duracell batteries into a recorder, speaks into
it to record a message, and then places the message in the bear. The setting changes to the inside of a
home with a mother and her daughter. They have a package and inside is the teddy bear. The little girl
squeezes the bear and hears her father s voice, which causes the mother to show a look of sadness and
longing. The little girl takes the bear with her everywhere, making it obvious that she misses her father
very much and just wants him to return home. The sadness seemed to turn to anger when he didn t
come home, and she started to neglect the teddy bear. One day she was sitting across from her bear
and she hears her father s voice. At first she thinks that it is coming

Compare And Contrast William Shakespeare And Dickens s...
William Shakespeare s and Charles Dickens literary works
William Shakespeare was born 1564 and died 1616. He was an English writer and considered to be
history s greatest dramatist of all time and wrote epic poems and sonnets. His dramas categorized into,
tragedies, historical dramas and comedies. He has also written a few dramas about romance and
problem plays. From the beginning William Shakespeare wrote his plays in the traditional way but
with time he developed his writing style to be more expressive. He often wrote about the upper
classes, but tried to bring in people of lower value. Shakespeare s most famous plays are the tragic

Charles Dickens has a rich life story, both good and bad things. He was born in 1812 and died 1870.

That is exactly what happens in Romeo and Juliet; they will not marry in love but in status. Even if
their families have a high status is it their family feud that separates them. Then we have the play
about Macbeth where they are out after power by murdering the king and take over the kingdom.
Which they what out after under the Renaissance, power. It is not just about what happen under the
Renaissance it is something much deeper Shakespeare wants to tell us. Like about true love and it
dose not matter who you are. Like in Othello, their Desdemona married Othello even he is dark
skinned, which was strange then. Then we have Romeo and Juliet who married anyway and in Hamlet
when I found out his true love about Ofelia when it is to

J. R. Tolkien Research Paper
The Story of J.J.R Tolkien
Have you ever wondered about all of the great authors of the world? Many great authors lived long
before our times due to the huge amount of writing done in earlier years. Many did not even get
recognition of their work for many years after their death but there are always acceptions. Some
received credit where it was due and some became more popular than deserved and some were caught
in the middle.
J.J.R Tolkien was born in Bloemfontein, South Africa on January 3, 1892.He moved around many
places as he was growing up from South Africa to Wales and also Birmingham. He grew up on the
pleasant side of poverty and had to keep himself occupied throughout much of his childhood. By the

Essay On The Great Dust Bowl
The Great Dust Bowl Did you know that the Dust Bowl from the 1930s affected 100,000,000 acres or
400,000 kilometers^2 of the Great Plains in the United States of America? This time was a period of
severe dust storms causing major ecological and agricultural damage to American and Canadian
prairie land . During this time, farmers of the Great Plains were experiencing many hardships, which
were brought on by a combination of poor farming practices, drought, and erosion prevention.
Millions of acres of farm land became useless, and hundreds of thousands of people were forced to
leave their homes (Buonanduci 1). During this time, many farmers produced or farmed cattle, corn,
wheat, sheep, cotton, coal, oil, natural gas, and metals. Most settlers of the region were accustomed to
the climate of the eastern United States from where they had migrated. Thus, their farming practices
were based on vastly different ecological conditions (Buonanduci 3). Farmers were over grazing and
over plowing their fields, not allowing the nutrients to return to soil. As a result, ... Show more content

When the sky and clouds were black you would know what was coming. The Dust Storms were
named Black Sunday, Black Blizzards, and Black Roller. Dust storms affected the states of Oklahoma,
Kansas, Montana, Texas, Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, and Colorado. By
the early 1930s, farmers and families were hitchhiking or carpooling to California. This left many
farming acres and houses useless. Most towns were dusty with a single gas station, store, and houses
sometimes 50 unpaved miles from [the] nearest neighbor (Popper 1). Having the hottest summers and
the coldest winters to plant crops in proved to be very difficult as well. Many farmers in the Plains
loaned money from government to plant more crops, which caused 500,000 farmers to file for
bankruptcy or

Growth Attenuation Therapy Ethical Issues
In 2006, Growth Attenuation Therapy, the administering of high doses of estrogen to severely disabled
children in order to stunt their growth, was introduced. It is of ethical concern because neither the
medical community nor the parents, know all of the implications and ramifications and yet, this
treatment continues to be in practice. The issue resurfaced last summer when a study by the Pediatric
Endocrine Society resulted in an article published March 22nd 2016 in the New York Times, which
indicated that a noteworthy population was receiving this treatment. The ethical issue lies in the
doctors and parents not necessarily being informed voters . For example, one of the doctors, listed as
treating a patient, had never before actually administered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is imperative that there be an open discussion overtly identifying the issues and discussing them
without prejudice (Johnson 2012 p. 265) Under specific circumstances, families may have the right to
use medical advances to improve their overall quality of life however, this slippery slope must be
controlled by the leaders in the medical community. Doctors and committee members need to be
aware of both sides of each issue and combine the priorities they have as medical professionals, with
the related socio political priorities. Additionally, doctors should have experience administering and
monitoring such treatment prior to accepting patients for Growth Attenuation Treatment. FDA
regulations and guidelines, for use of estrogen, would need to be established and an oversight
committee would be formed to ensure the process remains ethically sound. In order to act as an
exemplary follower, you ll need to practice exercising, independent, critical thought and by becoming
actively engaged in organizational affairs. (Johnson, 2012 p. 293) Furthermore, the medical
professionals would need to publicly declare that caution should be exercised regarding the treatment
s use, due to a lack of existing data. This would alert the public to the importance of their being
educated consumers and it might help to better align the expectations of all involved, with the range of
possible outcomes. It is premature to determine the ethical nature of Growth Attenuation Treatment.
...Relational Leadership...emphasize that leaders need to be concerned about ethical processes as well
as ethical products... (Johnson, 2012, p. 265) There exist three main issues in the processes of this
treatment as it stands today. The prescribing of this medication for off shelf use requires doctors to

  • 2. The British And Hong Kong From the outset, the British foundation has complicated the Hong Kong residents identity and relationship to the rest of China. The Communist Party allowed a one country, two system created an empire like association of Hong Kong natives to the state of China. The Hong Kong demonstrators want a free and direct election of the chief executive in 2017 (Wong 2014). Yet, many critics think that Hong Kong citizens already have a lot of freedoms. While Hong Kong strives for a more democratic rule, critics form the mainland fear the damage too much democracy can cause to the state. These two drastic points of view develop under one state due to the different approaches to the social cage. Although most of Hong Kong s population are ethnically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In contrast to Hong Kong empire relation to China, Beijing residents characterized themselves and Hong Kong residents as part of a nation state. Beijing residents, especially those who opposed the Hong Kong protests are very patriotic. The mainland Chinese in their 20s and 30s are stridently nationalistic and accepting of a government narrative that presents the Communist Party as the only entity capable of protecting an unwieldy country (Jacobs 2014). The communist party, therefore, created a very united cohesive power as outline by Mann. Most of the elites of this society fully support the party. They do not understand how anyone could go against it. This type of mentality shows a strong social power which will later be use to explain why the protest did not receive support from mainland China even if there are grievances within this society. Accordingly, the difference characterizations of the China as either an empire or state might come from looking at Gorski theory of discipline. One of the more develop examples is protestant ethic teaching: how religious teachings can lead to a profound transformation of social and institutional life, a disciplinary revolution, with far reaching consequences ... It can be said that with all of the elements it possess it would be a prime opportunity to bring to life the different aspects of humanity and its myth. Bringing the myth of the sphinx, an oracle, and an incestuous family of epic proportions. Each of these different myths played a large role in Greek mythology and other myths around the world. Seeking the difference between each evolution of Oedipus s journey and how each aspect defines him. Sphinxes are seen in many different Greek myths are a part of the Titan class. Exploring their raw power and intellectual abilities plays into societal desire. Oracles are simple oracle and fortune tellers depending on the information they are providing. This plays a key role in the perception that man have about their abilities. And looking into the incestuous family complex that caused the fall of a society. This is something that has been seen in many cultures under many different situations. How the Greeks display chaos in Oedipus can be deflected. This myth depict and display different binding facts about the culture and how it was transferred to written word shows that how people identified perspective values. It can be said it is all due to the chaos that humans inherently possess. Discussion In some cases Sphinx s were used are guardians to great treasures or personal protection (Unknown, 2016). • 4. Food Self Provisioning Food is, quite simply, essential. Without it, life can only exist for a short period of time. How we manage to produce enough food to survive will have an impact on the environment as the food systems we use can both contribute to environmental damage and yet be affected by it in turn (Jehlicka Raghuram, 2013). Given that agriculture contributes a substantial amount of Greenhouse Gasses (over 50% combined) means that food systems are at the heart of climate change (Jehlicka Raghuram, 2013). Food systems are the methods by which we produce (farming, agriculture, fishing etc), process (treat, process, package etc), store (ambient, chilled, frozen and housing), transport (locally, regionally, globally, air, sea, land etc) and dispose of items ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Food self provisioning represents a very different kind of relationship between humans, food and the environment. Food self provisioning and sharing the excess are generally social practices with low environmental impacts; these, in turn, promote social community bonds which are compatible with sustainability (Jehlicka, 2013b). It requires little research effort, has no governmental intervention (unless the use of allotments is involved) and practices vary widely around the world. Food self provisioning is generally environmentally and socially sustainable. It follows that if an individual changes their agency (whether through a change in values or beliefs or out of conscience) and that individual then changes their behaviour, they may set a precedent that others then follow. (Jehlicka, 2013b). Research shows that these practices promote local social, ecological and environmental resilience by strengthening networks of cooperation between families, friends, neighbours and co workers (Jehlicka, 2013b). Alongside this is the reduction of waste as surplus is distributed amongst networks that encompass urban and rural family and friends, which also has the added benefit of reducing excess resource and energy consumption; this is both socially and environmentally sustainable. It gives practitioners control over what they produce as on a very general level food self provisioning involves very modest amounts (if any) of fossil fuel based and/or fertilisers and pesticides. This, along with that fact that little (if any) fossil fuel is used in the transportation of goods as these will mainly distributed locally (Jehlicka, 2013b). Added to this is that products also tend to result in much less packaging and waste; even the methods of preservation whether that be drying, salting, pickling, smoking, fermenting, canning, freezing and dehydrating will often have higher levels of ... • 5. Consequences Of Xenophobia Throughout the years xenophobia has been a plague that has ravaged the lives of many foreign nationals in South Africa for years. During April of 2015 the wave of brutal action again made the cover of the news as it started in KwaZulu Natal and eventually managed to spread through to other parts of South Africa like Gauteng and Durban. In the following essay I will be doing a literature review of the meaning of and social consequences of xenophobia. I will also look at the social impact of xenophobia on both local and foreign people and to finish up my essay, I will give a detailed summarised report of my findings. Xenophobia can be broken into two words, xeno meaning strange and or different and phobia from the Greek language meaning, a persistent illogical fear of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People who are xenophobic may display fear or even rage toward others who are of foreign descent, even as xenophobia is often used interchangeably with terms such as intolerance and racial discrimination, these terms have different meanings. Xenophobia has numerous different effects on the different people suffering through it. These effects range from social to economic. Socially xenophobia has resulted in despicable acts of violence by black South Africans on other foreign nationals, with South Africans stating that these foreigners are taking their jobs. These foreign nationals some of which are shop owners are being ruined by looters who break in and steal simply because the shop owners are not South African. This brings in the theme of race relations. Are we as South Africans truly a rainbow nation if we can t even get along with our fellow African brethren? Because of this, the crime level in South Africa has also risen during the times of these xenophobic outbreaks, such as in 2008 for example when 60+ people died as a result of xenophobia. It was decided the empire was too strained and large to be governed by one man in one city. It limited military power. And created pockets where ambitious generals could become usurpers. No one wanted another Crisis. The empire was split in two. The Western and Eastern Roman Empires, The West contained Rome, and the provinces west of the Greek peninsula. The East, often called the Byzantine Empire due to the name of its capital, with everything to the east. While this helped the governing process of Rome it did lead to the downfall of the Western Empire. When the East split away, Western Rome lost a significant part of its territory that generated money for the empire. Most of Western Rome was agricultural with the exception of North Africa and western Hispania. Both of which would later be taken over by the Vandals. Its reliance on slavery to do almost all physical labor made the Roman people themselves weak. They couldn t perform the same tasks to keep money flowing. The science of astrobiology has many areas of study and is important because it helps us find other places in the universe that could be habitable, determine the potential for habitable planets beyond the solar system, and understand those planets that we can observe in the universe. Scientists have many ideas on how to recognize signs of life on other planets (Des Marais et al., 2008). Robots Advantages And Disadvantages In more details I would say that they need some capabilities such as inference, learning, ... which can involve thinks that popular opinion will associate to think and feel like we do but that does not mean they are the same. A robot is not a human just like a plane is not a bird or a car is not a horse. They may accomplish equivalent tasks but neither are doing it the same way as their counterpart. First for the way a robot is currently used a self driving car, a drone surveying an area (either for filming or military purpose), an industrial robot, a planetary rover they are just complex tools meant to do the hard, dirty or boring things we do not want to or can t do on our own. Having them the ability to infer is highly beneficial as it means that the user can ask them what to do for example go to the closest grocery store instead of how to do it for example drive straight for 200 yards, turn left, then drive straight for 2 miles, ... . having also this inference allow them to be able to recover for unexpected situation (road is blocked due to an accident) and re plan the best course of action accordingly. And this example just talk about path planning, this can go further for more high level tasks which involves more than simple motion (for example a home service robot that does simple chore at home such as setting your dinner table, ...). • 10. Street Fight Movie Analysis PART I: STREET FIGHT The documentary Street Fight directed by Marshall Curry covered a boisterous 2002 campaign in Newark, New Jersey, against a young city councilor Cory Booker verses the cities longest serving major running for a re election James Sharpe. During the entire documentary there were multiple points regarding politics and political power. In the beginning of the movie it was noted that some citizens were afraid to support Booker because they feared being targeted and possibly losing their homes or businesses. Even though Booker attempted to beat the Sharpe, he was nowhere near as entrenched and politically connected Sharpe. With the stark difference in the demographics each runner was targeting it became apparent that Booker was viewed as an outsider to the suburban residents of Newark that believed Sharpe would be the best candidate to become mayor. With that in mind, it is clear that social class adds a dimension into consideration of civic engagement (Losco 12). In my opinion, due to Sharpe s vast influence to achieve his desired goals would be considered a ruling elite. Paraphrasing from Losco page 5, Sharpe had access to government officials to become re elected as a government official himself. In the AM GOV text it states, Although citizens may not agree with specific government policies, they will support as legitimate, or lawful, policies founded upon accepted contracts and standards. ABSTRACT The newly elected Government of Mauritius clearly laid down its ambitions regarding Public Administration in the Government Programme 2015 2019. The public sector will be re organised and reformed to make it more productive, transparent, accountable and customer friendly. A Public Sector Efficiency Bureau is set up as a department of the newly crafted Ministry of Financial Services, Good Governance and Institutional Reform (Govt. Programme 2015 19). If it sounded just as the usual rhetoric from a new government, the 2015 2016 Budget Speech reiterated this determination after finding out that the country s system for transparency and good governance to be also at the crossroad. Instead of staying idle with the present system characterised by opacity that breeds corruption, the government calls to go out for a cleansing that will inject more meritocracy, transparency, good governance in the management of public affairs (Budget Speech, 2015). However, in terms of making the equation fit threats that are under other categories, we learn that the risk assessment has been under construction for many years. I agree with what he says since child care services allow children to interact with other children around their age, allowing them to develop good social skills. Since in the present day, we have good quality child care services, it s safe to assume that working moms could lead to the greater good. Next, since the dominant male already plays the role of a provider in the family, sharing this role with the woman in the family will lower the burden of family responsibilities on both the husband and the wife. Having two members of the family work will not only benefit the economy, it will also stabilize the family financially and it will allow the children to spend more time with their father which they wouldn t have if the father was working all day. • 16. The Controversy of Genetic Cloning Genetic cloning is one of the most controversial topics of all time. People, specifically scientists, are constantly searching for ways to improve the quality of human life. As a result, they began genetically engineering animals and are currently in search of a method to genetically engineer humans as well; which is called human cloning. There are many reasons why people should not go forward with this step since genetic cloning, consequently human cloning, does not respect nature nor does it ensure diversity and survival in natural ecosystems. In addition, genetic cloning is a cruel, harsh, and an unsafe experiment. Genetic cloning is defined as the production of a living being that is exactly identical to an existing living being from which it will originate. The two main purposes of cloning are to take a step towards immortality, since one can create an exact younger copy of oneself, and to rescue endangered species which may be of great medical potential to human beings. Other minor purposes include having a better sense of identity, hope, and religious freedom. One can study one s identity better through cloning, since it is always easier for someone to judge other people in front of them when compared to judging their own selves directly. Hope is brought about through cloning since scientists would feel like they have mastered every single aspect in life they could give rise to human beings after all. Faulty Reasoning Analysis There are many different faulty reasonings that I was able to find throughout this specific exercise, but I will focus on the five noticeable examples that I was able to identify. Example 16 states that I know three redheads who have terrible tempers, and since Annabel has red hair, I ll bet she has a terrible temper, to . I do not feel that this is an sound conclusion that this person has made about red headed people. We see that the person is focusing on induction, taking a small portion of a group and giving a bias conclusion. This is an obvious illogical reasoning because this person is speaking on the account of experiences with three red headed people. This is problematic because the person is giving us a bias observation to conclude that all redheads are indeed the same. I found another illogical statement in number 6 which states that If Lady Gaga uses Truvia, it must taste better than Splenda. This is an ad populum fallacy because it does not contain a reason for believing that Truvia tastes better than Splenda. This is problematic because its reasoning is based off the preference of a celebrity. We have no evidence in this statement that gives us proper reasoning to believe that Truvia is better than Splenda. A more appropriate statement would include ... Introduction Sustainable tourism is a very important element today because it not only meets the needs of the present but also protecting and increasing opportunities of destinations for the future. Uganda (M. Semakula M. Kiwanuka, 2017) is a country located in east central Africa, which has diverse ecosystems such as rainforest jungles, high volcanic mountains on the border or the Albert Nile River swamps. However, for many years Uganda has stagnated progress and development due to political problems, environmental degradation and the spread of AIDS epidemic. By the beginning of the 21st century, Uganda has taken new steps in political stability and gradually resolved its remaining problems and became Africa s fastest growing economy. This paper is going to discuss about the key issues and challenges in managing Uganda in term of two principles of sustainable development (responsibility and responsible citizenship) in context to sustainable host communities and collaborative partnerships. 2. The key issues and challenges in managing According to Michael Campbell (Director of University of Manitoba) (Youtube, 2013), the key issues in Uganda are deforestation and disappearance of some wildlife. • 20. The Study of Dark Matter Dark matter is a hypothesized form of matter particle that does not reflect or emit electromagnetic radiation. The existence of dark matter is inferred from gravitational effects on visible matter, such as stars and galaxies (Andrew Zimmerman Jones). Dark matter is crucial to the study of the universe and the existence of the human race. Since either dark matter or dark energy have neither been actually observed and all theories, we will be evaluating them from scientific standpoint. Since most of the light in the universe is not seen or can be seen because of the existence of dark matter, no one can really tell what exactly it is. This is why dark matter is the generic term used to describe the part of the universe in which light is neither absorbed nor reflected. Through the evaluated articles, we can deduce that the theory was first proposed by Astronomer Jon Oort in 1932 and further examined in 1933 by Fritz Zwicky. While studying, he made note of a large portion of missing mass within the galaxy. Jan Oort was studying the matter in the galaxy and noticed that there has to be more mass then that could be seen but figured that he made an error. Astrophysicist Fritz Zwicky made a similar observation when using mathematical equations to calculate the mass of the universe and noticed that there was evidence of invisible matter. • 22. Imperialism of India by Britain Essay Imperialism is the domination of one country of the political, economic, or cultural life of another country. Imperialism is more often than not fueled by two major schools of thought known as nationalism and Social Darwinism. Nationalism is a feeling of pride and devotion to one s country. This can drive a person to think that their country is the most powerful, and in essence drives that person mad with power and a hunger to conquer, which not ironically is exactly what many countries did. Social Darwinism is the very idea that a more powerful country conquer the smaller countries. Survival of the fittest, as the well renowned Charles Darwin used to say. Then there s the negative which may take away a colony s individuality and spark rebellion. Britain s a great example because we see an economic growth and a modernization of India, but we also see the rights of the people slowly fading into the shadows. Britain took over India after a brief struggle with France; initially to aid in its economy; mainly its textiles. The plan was to have Indians harvest raw materials to ship back to Britain. Britain would therefore have cheap raw materials sent back to them; because India was mercantilist (could only trade with the mother country) they did not have much of a choice but to sell to Britain cheaply. Britain therefore always had a steady source of raw materials Britain would turn raw materials into finished products that it would ship back to India and sell to Indians. Prices for goods were low and Indians liked that, but also Britain had a steady source of income. The most useful Indian industry for Britain was its cotton industry; Britain often used Indian cotton for clothing. India made for a cheap way to assemble (cheap labor) and an easy way to get business. For Britain, there was barely a negative side to imperializing in India. In order to be able to answer on those questions it will be necessary firstly to explain basic theoretical points about Manoeuvrist Approach, Mission command and OODA loop cycle. Throughout history, military theorists and commanders have attempted to determine and define the most effective way to defeat an adversary and achieve victory. British military doctrine defines this method as the Manoeuvrist Approach or indirect approach, which main focus is basically on attacking enemy s cohesion and will to fight rather than focusing purely on the destruction of his physical component. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... OODA loop (observe orient decide act) is theory presented by American John Boyd and its essence is to be faster through OODA loop cycle than the enemy. If we can consistently go through the OODA cycle faster than the enemy, make faster decisions and act before him, we gain an advantage and enemy loses his cohesion until he can no longer fight as an effective, organized force. However, in order to be faster than enemy some preconditions have to be achieved. Firstly, according to Boyd, only decentralized military with application of mission command can have a fast OODA loop. Secondly, through decentralization, to operate successfully in fog of war we need to accept confusion and disorder, and also to generate them. Thirdly, while operating in confusion and disorder we need to avoid all patterns, recipes and formulas, because if our tactics follow predictable patterns, the enemy can predict our actions and easily cut inside our OODA Loop. • 39. The Incidence Of Aki Between Two Perioperative Antibiotic... Anecdotal evidence suggested an increase incidence of AKI when gentamicin was used in combination with cefazolin and vancomycin for perioperative prophylaxis of elective hip and knee replacements. As post operative AKI is associated with increased morbidity and mortality, the aim of this study was to compare the incidence of AKI between two perioperative antibiotic regimens in patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty (THA) and total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Methods This was a retrospective cohort that evaluated 300 patients who underwent elective hip or knee replacements that received cefazolin, vancomycin and gentamicin or cefazolin and vancomycin for perioperative antibiotic prophylaxis. The RIFLE classification was utilized to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There was no significant difference in rates of PJI, CDAD, length of stay, need for acute hemodialysis, or readmission related to AKI. Background There were more than 1,000,000 total hip and knee replacements in the United States in 2010.1 Prosthetic joint infections (PJIs) are a rare complication of joint replacements, estimated to be less than 2% of cases, but result in significant morbidity and increased healthcare costs.2 Frequently, PJI requires removal of the prosthesis and a prolonged course of IV antibiotics. It has been estimated that the cost of one PJI is approximately $100,000 after a hip arthroplasty and $60,000 after a knee arthroplasty.2 Perioperative prophylactic antibiotics for total joint replacements have been proven to reduce rates of surgical site infections.2 3 It is recommended that prophylactic antibiotics are administered within one hour prior to surgical incision and are discontinued within 24 hours following the end of surgery.4 First generation cephalosporins, such as cefazolin, are the agents most commonly utilized for antimicrobial prophylaxis in joint replacement procedures.2,5 Vancomycin may be used in addition to a first generation cephalosporin in institutions considered to have a high rate of methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) surgical site infections. 2 If there is local data to suggest gram negative pathogens as a cause of PJI then it is recommended to consider the addition ... Black Men And The American Civil Liberties Union According to to the American Civil Liberties Union, California s research shows that black men are three times more likely to be stopped and frisked than whites. (Quigley) Some may say that this topic is based on nothing but opinions. That is not true. There are facts behind the accusations made by so many people accusing law enforcement agents of being racist. The job of law enforcement is to serve and protect the people, showing no bias towards any specific race, but this is not always the case. While many think this is a perfect world where there is no racism, the reality is that everywhere in the world there is at least one person who is racist. Being a racist is difficult, especially in this day in age. Today there are all types of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This statistic shows that the officers of the NYPD are judging blacks and assuming they are guilty before they even gather enough evidence. When black people are arrested, they receive ten percent longer sentences than white offenders, says the US Sentencing Commission, for the same crime. An obvious example of bias against black men is to incarcerate black men in jail for longer periods of time simply because of race. This is clearly a problem in the legal systems of the US. Eventually someone will get harmed in the middle of this racial discrimination. (Quigley) On August 4th, 2014, an eighteen year old boy by the name of Michael Brown was killed by Darren Wilson. Mr. Wilson was an officer of the Ferguson Police Department. He was a twenty eight year old white male and was accused of killing Michael out of racial hatred. This case was examined but not enough evidence was accumulated to charge Mr. Wilson with the murder of Michael (Moylan). This act of violence touched many people s hearts but made many people angry. It was thought that the FPD was being racist when Michael was killed because of statistic after the investigation. The arrest rate in seven felonies in the FDP decreased by over fifty percent and the police commissioner stated that overall crime decreased. • 42. The Ionic Frieze Of The Parthenon The ionic frieze of the Parthenon was considered by the Italian traveler and antiquarian Cyriac of Ancona as one of the noblest images of the Parthenon. The ionic frieze measures some 160 meters, or 524 feet, and is visible along the upper walls of the cella in addition to across the two porches. Cyriac was one of the first individuals to have sketched the figures on the frieze. The subject of the ionic frieze according to Cyriac was the victories of the Athenians . The Doric frieze of the Parthenon in the past presented 92 polychromatic carvings. The building upon which the frieze was built in the ionic style was Doric. The two styles of design do not mesh, and did not occur at simultaneous periods in history, making the presence of the ionic frieze something of a mystery. The general meaning of the frieze at large, comprised of many parts, has thereby been drawn into question. While the frieze in in superior condition than other elements of the Parthenon, such as the metopes, pediments, and akroteria, much of it has nonetheless been lost, leaving open room for interpretation. The lack of consensus over the meaning of the contents of the Parthenon is due in part to the height of the frieze. Travelers in the 2nd century A.D., centuries before Cyriac, had noted the pediments; however there was no discussion of the frieze. This may have been due to the fact that the frieze was too high. Conversely, and as will be explored below, some of the legends therein ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. An Efficient Distributed Arithmetic Architecture For... An Efficient Distributed Arithmetic Architecture for Discrete Wavelet Transform in JPEG2000 encoder R.Karthik1, K.Jaikumar2 1, 2 Asst. Professor, Department of ECE, P. A. College of Engineering and Technology, Pollachi. 1 karthikasprof@gmail.com 2 jaikumarkarthi@gmail.com Abstract The JPEG 2000 image compression standard is designed for a broad range of data compression applications. The Discrete Wavelet Transformation (DWT) is central to the signal analysis and is important in JPEG 2000 and is quite susceptible to computer induced errors. However, advancements in Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) provide a new vital option for the efficient implementation of DSP algorithms. The main goal of project is to design multiplier less and high speed digital filters to design DWT. The convolution and lifting based approach posses hardware complexity due to multiplier and long critical paths. The Distributed arithmetic architecture is implemented to achieve multiplier less computation in DWT filtering, it is based on Look up table approach, which may lead to a reduction of power consumption and the hardware complexity. DA is basically a bit serial computational operation that forms an inner product of a pair of vectors in a single direct step. To speed up the process the parallel DA is implemented. In the parallel implementation, the input is applied sample by sample in a bit parallel form. Index terms JPEG 2000, DWT, Error Detection, DA. INTRODUCTION In the last few ... • 44. Comparing Duracell Army Adisement And A ToyR. Military... Many advertisements used today can have similar main ideas, but use details that are opposites. Even with these differences they can have the ability to get similar points across. This is especially true for the two advertisements that I chose. I chose to do a Duracell military advertisement and a Toys R Us military advertisement. Both used pathos (emotion) to appeal to consumers. The advertisements included a family consisting of two parents and one young child making the main target audience of both ordinary families, specifically military families with children. The Duracell military advertisement appeals to the viewer s emotion. In the commercial it starts with a military father sitting in his bunk with a little stuffed teddy bear. He places the Duracell batteries into a recorder, speaks into it to record a message, and then places the message in the bear. The setting changes to the inside of a home with a mother and her daughter. They have a package and inside is the teddy bear. The little girl squeezes the bear and hears her father s voice, which causes the mother to show a look of sadness and longing. The little girl takes the bear with her everywhere, making it obvious that she misses her father very much and just wants him to return home. The sadness seemed to turn to anger when he didn t come home, and she started to neglect the teddy bear. One day she was sitting across from her bear and she hears her father s voice. Essay On The Great Dust Bowl The Great Dust Bowl Did you know that the Dust Bowl from the 1930s affected 100,000,000 acres or 400,000 kilometers^2 of the Great Plains in the United States of America? This time was a period of severe dust storms causing major ecological and agricultural damage to American and Canadian prairie land . During this time, farmers of the Great Plains were experiencing many hardships, which were brought on by a combination of poor farming practices, drought, and erosion prevention. Millions of acres of farm land became useless, and hundreds of thousands of people were forced to leave their homes (Buonanduci 1). During this time, many farmers produced or farmed cattle, corn, wheat, sheep, cotton, coal, oil, natural gas, and metals. Most settlers of the region were accustomed to the climate of the eastern United States from where they had migrated. Thus, their farming practices were based on vastly different ecological conditions (Buonanduci 3). Farmers were over grazing and over plowing their fields, not allowing the nutrients to return to soil. As a result, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is of ethical concern because neither the medical community nor the parents, know all of the implications and ramifications and yet, this treatment continues to be in practice. The issue resurfaced last summer when a study by the Pediatric Endocrine Society resulted in an article published March 22nd 2016 in the New York Times, which indicated that a noteworthy population was receiving this treatment.
