Descartes Philosophy
Descartes Philosophy Rene Descartes is a philosopher that lived during the Enlightenment period and
is famous for his philosophy of methodological doubt. His method of doubt was psychological in
character, involved a kind of rational insight, and implied a justified belief analysis of knowledge,
with justification construed in terms of being unshakable. (Newman) An important function of his
method was to enable people to redirect their attention from the senses to clear and distinct ideas
through intellect, reason, and doubt. Descartes understood knowledge as advancing truth. The
Enlightenment was an intellectual period that brought about ideas of God, reason, nature, and man. It
was a period of political and social upheaval that brought about revolutions and a period of learning to
think for oneself, employing and relying on the individual s capabilities to determine how to think and
act. (Bristow) Philosophy of that period caused tension with established religions. By using the
intellect to think and act, it required opposing the role of established religion by redirecting thoughts
and actions. It brought people to a higher human existence that was more fulfilled. Men became more
rational and developed goals of obtaining more knowledge, freedom, and happiness. With turmoil in
the empire, people became concerned for personal salvation, which also opposed the role of religion.
Established religion of those days taught that people should follow along without

Effects Of Income Inequality In The 1920s
Even if the 1920 s seem affluent and prosperous on the surface, the realities of time contradicted such
notions; in fact, it can be clearly stated that this decade should not be judged as an era of wealth.
Inequality was rampant in society at this time, especially when it comes to stark income differences
between the upper, middle and lower classes. While it can be said that the upper classes, who make up
a mere 1% of the population enjoyed most of these materialistic luxuries, the vast majority of the
American population was barely getting by.
To start, a majority of the American populace was not earning enough money to situation their daring
lifestyles. Generally, it can be said that the jobs they held often had lots of work hours and ... Show

The 1920 s had a huge case of income inequality, and there was a drastic difference in how people
across the financial spectrum lived their lives. While some people could barely afford basic necessities
like food, medicine, shelter etc, this small subsection of the population lived extravagantly. They could
afford new cars, lavish balls and expensive restaurants, and could absentmindedly spend their money
anywhere they desire. To add to this, the rise in per capita income for top 1% of the population in 1920
1929 was 75% (a stark contrast to the fact that the per capita income for the rest of the country only
rose by 9%). Also, the top 1% make up 23.9% of the total income/cash flow in the country, which is
an extremely unproportional percentage for it to come from such a small portion of the entire country.
Since income inequality was so prevalent in this era, the supposed affluence of this era can t be fully
supported or justified. It is clear that the vast majority was just wasting away on their savings, and that
only a lucky few actually were able to afford all the diverse activities they were involved

Controversies On Human Sociobiology By Edward Wilson
Sara Studenski Animal Behavior May 6, 2015 Controversies in Human Sociobiology Edward Wilson
described the term sociobiology in his literature, Sociobiology: The New Synthesis, as the systematic
study of the biological basis of all social behavior (1975). Although that is a mouthful, it is this author
s opinion that the most important part of that description is the word biological. It seems to imply that
sociobiology is nothing more than biological reactions in a social situation; it s the meat and potatoes
of our actions, but is that really all there is to it? Can how we behave in every day life, with our
families, with our friends, and even during our moments of (hopefully) deep philosophical
contemplation be condensed into biological processes? The same biological processes that enable us
to see, hear, and remember to breath? Maybe that is the case, but perhaps there it is something more
therein lies the controversy. That is not to cheapen the aforementioned biological processes, as they
are, of course, crucial to life. Reducing human interaction to solely biological processes, though, has
unsettled many, from the time of Edward Wilson even to present day. With that said, it is clear, from
his later works, that Wilson leaves room for other factors to determine our interactions with one
another and even our destinies. To say that everything is left up to biology would be a mistake, even in
the eyes of Edward Wilson. In his work, On Human Nature, he does

Pros And Cons Of Homophobia In America
In America, there are laws and policies to protect the working class. Employers can not discriminate
on employees based on race or gender, although sexual orientation is not covered by such laws. This
leaves gay people venerable to discrimination in the work place or the termination of their job,
because of how they choose to express their sexuality. This venerability caused by the lack of anti
discrimination laws. This puts gay people into a situation that is less stable than their heterosexual
counter parts. As long as a person s intimate relationships do not impact work performance, then a
person s relationship choices, gay or not, should not be a concern to the employer. Homophobia is
often based on one s religious belief that gays ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alleviating homophobia in education, would allow for more LGB people to get the education that is
needed to get a secure job. John Iceland, Professor of Sociology and Demography at Pennsylvania
State University, in his book Poverty in America: A Handbook, explores how inequality in opportunity
plays a large role in driving poverty. He explains that in globalization of trade and sending jobs
overseas for cheaper labor, makes less unskilled jobs for people in America. Iceland explains those
who are more likely to lose their jobs are more likely to fall into poverty. He observes that an
uneducated people are having a harder time getting a job, and higher education is necessary to get a
well paying secure job (Iceland). The discrimination makes it harder for homosexual people to get an
education, therefore making it harder for them to secure a stable job in the current state of the
economy. Gay people are very prone to discrimination. LBT people are more prone to a wage gap
caused by lack of opportunity that makes them more likely to experience poverty. The constant threat
of homophobia is a threat to gay people and put gay people in an unsafe, unstable work and education

Compare And Contrast Essay On Dollar Metal Coin
Which one, the dollar metal coin or the dollar paper bill? Is one form of the dollar better sufficient for
the environment? Billions of coins and bills are used every day in the U.S and the production of this
system of money is generating risks to the environment. The coin and the bill have different
attributions to the environment, the cycle to produce a single coin/bill requires various materials and
processes. The one dollar metal coin is greener than a one dollar paper bill, the dollar coin is fitter for
the economy and the environment as the coin has several advantages over the dollar bill. The coin
benefits more the environment as it damages less and last more than a bill. The average dollar coin

beneficial for the environment as the bill is bleached of ink (waste), and the paper is shredded and put

the system of money and producing less waste to the environment is by changing the value of coins,
that one coin can represent a value greater than the bills worth to manufacture the coin instead.

Example Of Syntactical Ambiguity
4. CLARITY. In order for our writing to be clear there are some common discursive elements that the
user must avoid. Some of those elements have relevance in writing but they would only confuse the
reader in smaller work. As the Style Guide for The Economist states: Clarity of writing usually
follows clarity of thought . Clarity conveys readers comprehending our message effortlessly; writing
properly involves successful communication.
Examples:
*The horse raced past the barn fell.
✓The horse which was raced past the barn fell. (Pinker, 2014) *As linguist Geoffrey Pullum has

such as cricket, baseball and table tennis. (Oxford Dictionary)
2. A nocturnal capable of sustained flight. (Oxford Dictionary) Best choice: John has a bat to play

4.3.2 SYNTACTICAL The syntactical ambiguity is when words can be interconnected into more than
one tree. It must be avoid as much as possible. Example: The French teacher speaks very fast
We find two interpretations:
1. The teacher that teaches French
2. The teacher from France
Best choice: The teacher that teach French speaks very fast  Does the text contain any ambiguity? If
it does, substitute it with another word or phrase.
4.4 HEDGING The heading is usually used by the writer, in order to distance their opinion from the
text and avoid responsibility for mistake. Words such as: almost, apparently, comparatively, fairly, in
part, nearly, partially, predominantly, presumably, rather, relatively, seemingly, so to speak, somewhat,
sort of, to a certain degree, to some extent, and the ubiquitous I would argue (Pinker, 2014) are
considered as if the author is hiding their true intention and it shows the author´s lack of

Defining Characteristics Of The 12 Step Approach
Introduction A brief overview of the defining characteristics of the 12 step approach (Baldwin et al.,
2011, Bateson, 1971, Jellinek, 1960, Lacan and Miller, 1998, Raikhel and Garriott, 2013, Schenker,
2009, University of Chester, 2016, Wilcox, 1998) with particular focus on its definition (NCCMH,
2008) and UK based studies (Best et al., 2001, Day et al., 2005, Harris et al., 2003) recognising the
translatability of the 12 steps relating to higher power and personal responsibility (Appendix 1, p.11)
create tensions for client/patient engagement (Best et al., 2001, Harris et al., 2003) and
staff/professional referral (Day et al., 2005). A commissioned report by National Collaborating Centre
for Mental Health (NCCMH, 2008) by National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and
a recent 8 year review of the aforementioned (NICE, 2016) inform current NICE guidelines including
referrals to 12 step (NICE, 2007). The current evidence base (NCCMH, 2008) uses a systematic
review of the literature (McAuliffe, 1990, Etheridge et al., 1999, Moos et al., 1999, Fiorentine and
Hillhouse, 2000, Toumbourou et al., 2002, Weiss et al., 2005, Timko et al., 2006). An 8 year review of
the evidence (NICE, 2016) finds no new evidence to warrant evolving the existing guideline,
providing supporting evidence and emerging evidence to inform the current guidelines (Johnson et al.,
2006, Kelly et al., 2010, Laudet et al., 2006, McKellar et al., 2009, Timko and DeBenedetti, 2007). A

Bigger Than Life By Nicholas Ray
Nicholas Ray s Bigger Than Life is a story of an American family man who tries to have it all and
fails because of his addiction. In an effort to visually portray this, Ray largely abandons conventional
Cinemascope practices and tends to revert to the paradigms of the Academy ratio. Rather than using
Cinemascope to highlight spectacle, Ray films a small family melodrama. Instead of splitting the
screen into thirds and adjusting the mise en scène to visually fill up the screen, Ray uses close ups,
single person shots, and symmetry. He frequently divides the screen in two at the center, essentially
treating each side as an Academy ratio film. Since Ray focuses less on clotheslining actors, he is able
to bring the audience closer to understand the psychology of Ed Avery (and physcially closer to him
than most Cinemascope films would go). The sequence towards the end of film is of paramount
importance Ray takes the tension, anger, cruelty, and derangement that has been building throughout
the film and raises it to a high enough level that Ed is willing to kill his own son. To get this across,
Ray uses composition to show Ed as isolated, sinister, and dangerous. Two of the scenes in particular
from the sequence deviate from his regular techniques, as he stages the family in a single frame to
highlight the growing distance between them all. Throughout the film, Ray used close ups to show Ed
s mental state; in this sequence, Ray largely abandons that technique Ed s state of mind

Bigger Than A Hamburger, By Ella Baker
In 1960 Ella Baker delivered a speech entitled Bigger than a Hamburger to what would come to be the
Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). In this speech she argued to students who had
been involved in the sit ins that what they were fighting for was bigger than a hamburger and
desegregating a lunch counter, but struggling for equality in all its forms. In a similar way, so too has
the fight for quality education been bigger than a classroom. Ella Baker also argued that, through the
process of education, black people would be accepted in the American culture and they would be
accorded their rights in proportion to the degree to which they qualified as being persons of learning
and culture. This is a testament to the over 200 year tradition within the black community of viewing
education as inseparable with the concepts of freedom and citizenship. During slavery anyone found
to be assembling in an effort to teach slaves to read and write received corporal punishment.
Consequently, throughout Reconstruction education was pursued with a vengeance. Freedmen s
Bureau agents reported, Colored men have paid their own money to prepare and furnish a room for a
school. The Rosenwald Fund, a charity organization headed by the president of the Sears Roebuck
Company, donated funds to build black schools, but the funds had to be matched by those from the
local school system. So black residents double taxed themselves in order to pay for these schools.

How Did The Crusaders Influence The Byzantine Empire
Pope Urban was seeing an opening for power in the year of 1095. He had decided to help the leader of
the Byzantine Empire by killing the Turks. While the Turks are Muslim and Pop Urban is a Christian,
he wants to stay elsewhere and not around people who don t practice his same religion.
Peter the Hermit was a French monk who created an unorganized army. His 1096 army consisted of
not only soldiers, but peasants, too. Peter and his army started the People s Crusade. Peter pushed
people to fight against the Muslims for the Holy Land.
In 1097, a powerful army was constructed by the combination of the Belgium, the German, the
French, and the Italian. The army consisted of over 30,000 soldiers! The Pope made them a promise

Baldwin was the creator of the first Crusader State at Edessa. In August 1098, the crusaders reached
the Jerusalem. When Godfrey passed away, Baldwin became the first king of the Christian Kingdom.
European lords worked hard to maintain the control over the crusader states. The Holy Order of
Knights fought back when a crusader state was being charged at. Emperor Conrad III and King Louis
VII wanted to overtake Damascus rather than defending Edessa.
King Richard tried to get control of Jerusalem for one year. He decided to form a connection with his
one and only enemy, Saladin. Richard ended up making an agreement with Saladin. Their agreement
was that Christians could be allowed to go to the Holy Land and visit their worshipping shrines.
The fourth crusade did not hold as much power behind it as the others. In 1202, the crusaders made
their way to the Holy Land lead by the French Knights. On their journey, they were side tracked by the
Venetian Lords. These lords tried to convince them to take control over the Eastern Orthodox
Constantinople. The Pope was not a Greek Orthodox ruler meaning that would make him selfish to

The Core Components Of The Social Exchange Theory
Social Exchange Theory is grounded in the idea that people assess their relationships from an
economic perspective when pertaining to costs and rewards that are identified amongst different
relational partners. It is within this paper that we discuss the core components that make up the theory,
the possible advantages and disadvantages of its use, as well as touch base on a real world
communication example the Social Exchange Theory can be associated with.
There are multiple core components that have been identified and further constructed in which make
up the Social Exchange Theory. West and Turner (2014) further explain that costs are the factors that
contribute to the negative value we place on relationships while rewards are rather the positive values.
Additionally, West and Turner proceed with the idea that we evaluate all types of relationships by
using the following equation:
Worth = Rewards Costs
When rewards are greater than the costs, or the final amount is a positive number, it is considered to
be a positive relationship, whereas a negative number would indicate the relationship to be negative.
The Social Exchange Theory then acknowledges the worth of these relationships and the outcomes
that will be endured, or whether or not relationships will hold stable or instead be terminated. It is the
idea that individuals enter into and maintain relationships as long as it is satisfying both person s self
interest. Social Exchange Theory is based on the idea that

For a substrate to be converted into a product, enzymes must collide with a substrate and bind to its
active site. As the temperature increase, the number of collisions per unit time increases which in turn
increases the kinetic energy of the protein. This increases the chances of the substrate to successfully
collide with an enzyme. Thus the rate of the reaction will also increase. When the temperature gets too
high, the increase in Kinetic energy causes a lot of vibrations in the enzyme leading to the hydrogen
bonds breaking. The shape of the active site on the protein now changes. The enzyme s intra and
intermolecular bonds are broken causing the enzyme structure to denature (break down). (1) (3)
. Ionic interactions between positively and negatively charged amino acids hold enzymes together. The
ionization state of amino acids (acidic of basic) can be affected by a change in the pH in which the
enzymatic reaction occurs and are sensitive to hydrogen ion concentration. The majority of enzymes
function over a small pH range. When pH is altered the rate of enzyme reaction reduce considerably
and the balance between positively and negatively charged amino acids are shifted. Acidic amino
acids contain a carboxyl functional group in their side chains whereas basic amino acids contain an
amine functional group in their side chains. When ionization state of amino acids are altered the ionic

When one has children, they do what they can to lead them in the right direction. When you tell them

Traumatic Brain Injury Analysis
Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) has gained considerable notice in recent years since the Global
War on Terrorism. High percentages of service members surviving combat related injuries are now
battling the long lasting effects and associated medical morbidities of brain trauma. Nearly 1.6 million
service members deployed in Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF)
through June 30, 2007 (Defense Manpower Data Center ). While percentages of those deployed
sustaining mTBI are only approximations and may underestimate prevalence of injury and underscore
the subsequent impact of postconcussive symptoms, as many as 12 35% of those with exposure to
combat are estimated to have experienced an mTBI (Schneiderman, Braver, Kang, 2008 ; Hoge, et al.,
2008 ). Moreover, an estimated 25,000 military personnel sustained an mTBI in 2014 alone, as

Analysis Of The Book Horrible Things
The children s book Terrible Things is an allegory of the Holocaust as written by Eve
Bunting. It involves a community of animals who are taken away group by group by the
Terrible Things. The genre of the children s book Terrible Things is fantasy as characterised by the
fictional events and talking animals. The purpose of this story was to entertain young children, but has
a secondary purpose of informing readers of a hidden message pertaining to the events of the
Holocaust which targets small children and adults.
The author uses various elements of literature and language to support her purpose an dto make this
story a portrayal of its genre. Characters that the author uses forest animals such as white rabbits,
birds, frogs, fish, squirrels and porcupines. Having personified animals is a trait of many fantasy
stories. It also has a clear protagonist and antagonist, the protagonist being Little Rabbit and the
antagonist being the Terrible Things. Also, the author s diction and syntax are simple and the names
that she chooses for the characters are very childlike, for example the Terrible Things. She uses
imagery to add dimension to a simple story like when she uses shimmering fish and the cool brown
waters of the forest pond. Little Rabbit. The author uses this to develop the setting and also appeal to
the reader s emotion of happiness and serenity which makes the plot more dramatic. The sentences are

False Confessions Case Study
Even in the case of presenting false evidence, like DNA, fingerprints or video recorded material in
order to get a confession from the suspect, participants found this procedure extremely coercive but
apparently not coercive enough to elicit a false confession. According to above results, it seems that
potential jurors do not seem to realize that there is a very important connection between coercive
interrogations and false confessions. If jurors cannot be open to the idea of a false confession being a
product of a psychological pressure under interrogation then this would definitely have a critical
impact on the outcome of a trial.
On the other hand, since this was a study conducted with a student sample there are some restrictions
in generalizing its findings to the general public especially police investigators. However, according to
a research by Kassin, Meissner Norwick including both student participants and police investigators

Miep Gies Symbols
Miep Gies: A Symbol of Life But even an ordinary secretary or a housewife or a teenager can, within
their own small ways, turn on a small light in a dark room. Miep Gies. Think about this quote. You
don t have to be a rich person, or a famous actor to do something great. You can help someone in need
just by showing them a smile. This is what Miep Gies did for the entire Frank family, and the other
members of the annex household, which we only know about because of Anne Frank s diary. Her
diary became a play, The Diary of Anne Frank, written by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett. The
Franks were a Jewish family that lived during the Holocaust, a horrific time in Europe when millions
of Jews were slaughtered because of their religion. But overall, Miep Gies shows the events of the war

In the play, Mr. Frank s business, which the annex was located directly above, was still functioning as
if nothing was happening in the outside world. Miep was still a dedicated secretary, and the employees
were still coming to work every day. Evidence of this is in The Diary of Anne Frank; act II; scene 1;
line 158; Anne says: Miep has to run the business and us too. This sentence shows that Meip was
working hard to run the business and protect the annex family. Furthermore, Miep shows us that even
during times of great tragedy, people still thought about, and did considerate things, for others. They
still put their own needs and wants aside to help others. An example of this is when Miep uses all of
her sugar rations to bake a cake for the annex. In The Diary of Anne Frank, act 2; scene 1; line 25;
Mrs. Frank says Thank you, Miepia. You shouldn t have done it. You must have used all of your sugar
ration for weeks. This quote shows that during the war, people were still thoughtful of others, and

Define Ethics In Health Care
Ethics can be described as being a concept or principle that describes human behavior. The meaning of
ethic s is hard to define; people have their own thoughts about what ethics is about. The word ethics
often times is a link with law or religion. Both of these have more to do with society standards than
one s own behavior. Ethics is based on grounded values of right and wrong that advise what people
should do. Moreover, you can relate ethics to fairness or specific virtues. Ethics can also be designated
as values that impose the rational responsibilities to refrain from harming, stealing or killing. Ethics is
the study of universal values that consist of equality, natural rights, obedience with the concern of
health and safety. Additionally, ethics is a study of one s own standards with the development of one s
own values and moral beliefs. Ethic s means unremitting struggle of ... Show more content on

When we talk about health care ethics involving patients, it brings upon challenging principles in the
health arena. There are four main principles that define the ethical duties within healthcare they are:
autonomy, beneficence, non maleficence and justice. These principles are in effect at all times within
the care of the patient in any health care setting. (Health Care Ethics: Overview of the Basics, 2011)
The most important of those principles is non maleficence, which means do no harm. It is the
foundation of medical ethics and part of the physician oath. In all situations, a provider should not
cause any harm or put a patient in harm s way. The principle of non maleficence entails the purpose of
circumventing needless harm or injury that can happen through acts of commission or omission. In
simple language, it can be thought of as act of negligence if you enact a careless or arbitrary risk of
harm upon another. (Runzheimer Larsen,

Beer Simulation
Root Beer Simulation At the outset, I have to acknowledge that I had a problem with this simulation.
Initially, in my first two orders, I confused the backlog and inventory sections, so that I believed I had
a significant surplus in inventory. Therefore, rather than minimizing the bullwhip of supply and
demand, I exacerbated the problem by limiting my supply well below the number of orders coming in,
much less below what I could fill with the backlog and incoming orders. This error on my part
certainly led to increasing instability, not only in my own incoming orders, but also in the entire
supply chain. The simulation also kept auto filling my initial order, which was only 10,000 cases,
despite me ordering a significantly larger number of cases. I could not get the simulation to operate
properly and allow me to place a larger order. It kept auto ordering the 10,000 cases. I could not get it
to place an order other than 10,000 cases. Because of this glitch, I continued to increase my backlog. I
simply could not order more than 10,000 cases. I address this issue because the glitch certainly
impacted my opinion of the computer simulation as a means of learning. In this scenario, the initial
computer simulation was absolutely worthless as a learning tool. I made an error in my first order, but
I do not think that error was meaningful. Instead, it appears that whatever number of cases I placed in
my initial order would be the number of cases ordered over the next several

Does Correspondence Bias Exist
There are so many things on this earth that are dependent on each other and small actions beforehand
can change the way we view someone for a life time. The phenomena of correspondence bias are a
huge factor in social psychology in today s world. Correspondence bias is the idea that people have
the tendency to attribute one s behavior in a certain instance to an essential part of another person s
being, character, and inner values. When in it can all be explained by the environment and the
situation before this action had occurred. For example, if you are meeting someone for the first time
and they are rude when you speak with them. Then you go off and think this person is a rude and
disrespectful person in general, when in reality they were only that way because their wife just cheated
on them. So you got their rudeness out of context. In our class s CB study, although we were shown
the situational assignment the class as a whole showed correspondence bias. The students in the class

The significance is how can we change the way western societies think to change this phenomena,
because this phenome is a huge part of social interactions. Instead of automatically assuming that a
person s actions in that moment reflect their entire character and who they are as a person, we could
focus more on their situation and what might have caused them to act the way they did and understand
their situation as a whole. This could make westerners as a whole less judgmental about the actions of
others and decrease conflict among people. Another way this question could help is we could study
how a westerner s brain reacts to a certain situation compared to a non western s brain and see the
difference in where and how much brain activity there

Action Plans: Enhancing Training Development for Employees
Abstract
This research paper analyzes and summarizes three published articles and a textbook that provides
information on the results from a previous research conducted. The previous conducted research
analyzed and summarized the use of action plans that employers and employee structure to develop
and enhance training methods to improve job performances. The three articles vary in the definitions
of an action plan, the different types of action plans, and the effectiveness of action plans in the
workforce. Paul Thoresen states, action planning should be an interactive process involving both

This article clearly exemplifies that training development amongst employers and employee should be
well structured and focus on the impact of an employee s job performance and the workforce.
The next article s, researched and published by the Littler Learning Group in 2009, is summarized as a
guideline for individuals who obtain a management or supervision position. Performance Management
and Corrective Action: A Resource Guide for Managers and Supervisors gives a breakdown of an
effective training guide that employers should provide and make sure their management team are
extremely knowledgeable to train the employees. The Little Learning Group (2009) states, that a good
action plan is task oriented, specific, offers the appropriate training or help, sets goals, sets a timetable
for effecting change, explains the consequences of continued poor performance, removes obstacles to
performance, and lastly considers appropriateness of professional resources. The opinion of this group
corresponds with Thoresen s definition of action planning because it identifies that an action plan is
used in training development to better the employee s job performance. In addition, each action plan
must be structured in a sufficient amount of time in order to be efficient and make an impact in the
training development. There are various guidelines in structuring effective action plans, but most
importantly is that

U.s. Procurement And Strategic Sourcing Activities
CHAPTER ONE: INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
From the late Nineties, a raft of latest e commerce technologies emerged that aimed to revolutionize
operating practices, replace existing businesses and lead in the production of new business models
(Sinha, I.2000; Barua et al.,2001). Following this growth in use of e commerce in business to business
markets, there has been important adoption of latest supply chain related technology and applications
by organizations globally. The procurement function has been notably stricken by this trend with a
foretold growth in e procurement applications covering each transactional shopping for and strategic
sourcing activities (Croom S, 2000). A major contributor behind this development has been the
evolution of the procurement function towards an additional strategic role in supporting both,
company goals and supply chain objectives.
Procurement is a central service provided by a zealous team of executives. It functions at the interface
between the organizations, the external supplier, marketplace and also the organizations operational
processes (Knudsen D, 2003). This implies that the procurement processes and data have to be on the
market for one or all actors within the supply chain to optimize the advantages of e procurement. The
applications that inform the e procurement landscape are designed to alter the buying cycle, optimize
pay, improve methods and progress, support bidding and tendering and facilitate more practical

The Irish Countryman by Arensberg The Irish Countryman by Arensberg was a very interesting
society in many aspects. Their way of life, their level of trust and respect, and their beliefs and
priorities all make up the unique society that they all engage in. The Irish were very in touch with the
spirit world both mentally and physically on a day to day basis. They continuously strived to please

The Irish society is mostly composed of peasants living in rural areas with insufficient land. They
were a polygenous society in which the political aspect of the community was dominated by an
outside force. Matchmaking marriage was the most respectable. Most women either didn t get married
at all or got married very late. The process of marriage was very intricate and involved. The female s
parents are very particular when choosing who their daughter is going to marry. They make sure he
comes from a good family and that he is going to inherit a lot of land in order to gain status to the
family. On the other hand, the man is more concerned with the level of intelligence that the woman
has. The woman has to be very responsible in the sense that she has many obligations to fulfill around
the house. Such obligations include feeding, agricultural work, raising the children, and maintaining
the household on a day to day basis.
When a couple decides to get married, the parents of the husband move into the west room of the

reality Google simply provides a means to gather and research information and does not set the rules.

use slow mailing services, most tourists are now utilizing this type due to the reasons given below.
Basically, a courier is an agency that aids customers with their delivery packages, such as money and
documents, and provides a faster service. Those people who are always taking a tour will be able to
send postcards and even souvenirs back home no matter where they are. Tourists also do not have to
worry about payments since there are convenient ways to transfer money for the service, such as
automatic billing and online interfaces. More often than not, a courier company also offers delivery
guarantees, along with insurance on shipments and other perks, making it an imperative part of every
traveler s life. So, if you are a frequent holidaymaker, you will enjoy great benefits from using this
type of mailing service. You can be sure of secure shipments and on time deliveries wherever you may
be spending your vacation.
Easy and Convenient: What all you need to do in order to send a courier or parcel to any corner of the

Earlier in the semester, the class was introduced to topics such as politics within Children s Literature
and learning how to be cultural critics. Both topics generated discussion that was centered around the
contributions that were made within Children s Literature and how they could deepen young reader s
understanding of the content presented to them in children books. I believe the book The Sneetches
and Other Stories by Dr. Seuss would ve been a great addition to the class reading list. In this book,
Dr. Seuss discussed topics such as discrimination, prejudice, acceptance, and tolerance which are all
topics people wouldn t think are suitable for a children s book. The themes were used as underlying
messages throughout the story and the illustration presented a visual to readers, so that they could
have a clear understanding of what Dr. Seuss was writing. The importance of the message was to bring
awareness to the issues that are present within society. Other stories include The Zax , Too Many
Daves , and What Was I Scared Of? . These stories all contribute to reaching out to help young readers
analyze and further understand others who may not always be the same as them. In Dr. Suess s The
Zax , one Zax was going North and one South but because of pride neither one moved to
accommodate the other out of respect. Too Many Daves highlights the lack of originality. It teaches

The Pros And Cons Of Students In Single Gender Schools

would benefit students in their academics. Lastly, boys and girls feel less pressured in single gender

Gender stereotyping is what someone thinks a man or women are supposed to be. Boys think that girls
are supposed to be quiet and smart, and not play sports. This is what a boys stereotype of what a girl is

try something new, because it s not stereotypical. This is what can happen in a co ed environment. In a
single gender environment, students learn to love themselves, and learn to be who they are. That is
why single gender schools, don t promote as much gender stereotyping as co ed schools do, and are a
better learning environment for students. To conclude, students learn better in single gender schools.
This is because it is easier for students to concentrate, this makes it less complicated for students to

A Study On Nazi Medical Experiments
The chapter on Nazi medical experiments in Chalmers book is one of the most fascinating chapters
because it examines the different types of techniques that the Nazi s used to sterilize men and women.
Chalmers explains that women were particularly subject to medical experiments because the Nazis
were obsessed with destroying inferior races and wanted to perfect the art of sterilization so no more
undesirable elements would be born (Ibid 123). However, both men and women were subject to Nazi
medical experiments like medical injections, X Rays, and chemicals, which resulted in burnt skin,

Germans and sexual abuse among Jewish women. Chalmers provides interesting information on how
the Nazi s banned homosexuality, birth control, and feminist organizations (Ibid 145). Chalmers
outlines that the goals of the Nazi party by repressing sexuality like homosexuals and feminist
movements was to promote pronatalist policies like reproduction so women could bear more children
for the superior Aryan race. Chalmers extensive study of brothels in concentration camps interested
me because I did not realize the SS allowed prostitution inside concentration camps and the majority
of these women were Germans because Jewish women were not allowed to be prostitutes due to the

The Effect of Shale Gas on Global Warming and Climate Change and the Environment Global
warming is a very disputed issue due to the fact that in every situation, there are two sides to a story.
Some believe global warming is not an issue seeing as there have been trends in the past that indicate
that the world changes constantly and that it will once again come to its natural order. Like geologist
Charles Lyell once stated with his idea of uniformitarianism, that the Earth is shaped by the same
processes still in operation today. Also, James Hutton stated that, The future will resemble the past ,

Shale is a soft, fine sedimentary rock that formed from consolidated mud or clay. It contains shale gas
that is trapped within the shale formations which are rich in petroleum and natural gas. Studies have
shown that 3.6% up to 7.9% of methane from shale gas escapes through venting and leaks into the
atmosphere over a lifetime of a well. Methane emissions are considered to be at least 30% higher in
concentration than conventional gas. That is, pools in which wells can be drilled so that oil and natural
gas flow naturally and can be pumped to the surface. Methane is a powerful greenhouse gas with a
global warming potential that is far greater than that of carbon dioxide. Shale gas contributes
substantially to the greenhouse gas footprint on a shorter time scale, and results have shown that it
leaves a 20% greater footprint than coal. Natural gas is being used as a transitional fuel which allows
for further dependence on fossil fuels, yet reducing the green house gasses (GHG) when compared to
oil and coal. In the 1990 s the United States produced its oil and gas through the use of conventional
reservoirs, but in 2009, unconventional production took the lead. There is really not much of a
difference between conventional and unconventional gas, but they are described as a sponge and clay
production process. Gas is extracted far more easily though the use of conventional production, but in

The Wrongful Conviction Of Juan Rivera
Written Assignment: The Wrongful Conviction of Juan Rivera

Part I On November 19th, 1993 Juan Rivera was convicted for the August 17th, 1992 rape and murder
of then eleven year old Holly Staker, who at the time was babysitting her two siblings (University of
Michigan Law School). His wrongful conviction was the result of failures by not only the public, but
also law enforcement personnel and the criminal justice system, as we will further examine.
According to the University of Michigan s Law School, Juan Rivera s initial arrest came on October
26th after Lake County Police received a tip from an informant. Rivera was then questioned for four
days and at the end of the fourth day Rivera falsely confessed to Staker s rape and murder (University
of Michigan Law School). Following his confession, the two interrogators went on to type a
confession for Rivera to sign. After obtaining Rivera s signature, however, the prosecutor found the
narrative to be incohesive, and asked the interrogators to correct it and to obtain Rivera s signature on
the second written confession. Rivera s signature was later obtained on October 30th (University of
Michigan Law School). Of course, it is tough to comprehend why a reasonable and innocent
individual such as Mr. Rivera would confess to a crime he did not commit (Gould). Upon further
review, however, there were notable flaws as to how this case was treated. To

nature, they can further lead to tsunamis and most common hazard related to earthquakes is

Plate tectonic activity is related to many other things like, volcanoes and earthquakes. These natural
hazards can be found in linear belts around the globe. There are seven large plates and many small
ones, the main types of plates include the divergent plate boundary (pulls away), convergent plate
boundary (move towards each other) and transform plate boundary (slide past). Ocean continent
boundaries create earthquakes up 700 km deep and forms seafloor trenches, it leads to andesitic
volcanoes in mountain ranges. Yellowstone is a hot spot this is where heating and igneous activity
occurs within crust. Although, not all plates move at the same rate, they are relative to each other.
Continent continent boundaries with divergent can form rift valleys, earthquakes less than 100 km
deep, and basaltic/rhyolitic volcanoes. At Convergent they have young mountain range, 300 km deep
earthquakes, and no volcanoes. At transform, they have a fault zone, less than 100 km deep
earthquakes and again no volcanoes. With ocean ocean boundaries there is oceanic ridges with rift
valley, less than 100 km earthquakes, and basaltic pillow lavas at divergent. On convergent there are
seafloor trenches, 700 km earthquakes and andesitic volcanoes in island arc. With transform you have
ridges and valleys in oceanic crust, less than 100 km earthquakes, and some basalt. Plates are driven
by the convection in the mantle and movement of the lithosphere.

Peter Singer is an Australian moral philosopher most known for his book titled Famine, Affluence, and
Morality in which he talks about just that. One of his biggest and the first of his premises is our
obligation to assist if it is within our means to avoid something bad without giving up something of
moral consequence. This means that it is not morally permissible to rob a bank to assist those in need
just because you have the means to rob a bank. It simply means when thinking about purchasing

There s no way to know or change this without putting money in the pot in the first place. But why
would you do that? You could potentially waste a great deal of money. It might be better to wait and

Better Wine which says you should never open the wine because it will taste better tomorrow and will
only continue to increase in flavor with each day that passes. You could then call what s next Ever
Better Saving which is that you should wait and do more good tomorrow. The principle ultimately
states that you should wait forever to save people which doesn t help anyone at all. In terms of saving
the money, how are you to know for sure that it can save more people tomorrow than it will today?
This brings up the issue of whether the ever better wine reasoning is similar to what is going on in the

theoretical. It s not fair to compare the taste of wine to the unfortunate lives of

all employees at all levels. When doing so, all employees should understand why the organization
exists, what the organization does, what the long term growth outlook is and most importantly in my
opinion, the important things the company does not do. When leaders use clear and honest
communication they are increasing their chances that the employees will build positive emotional
bank account deposits while building trust. An employee will trust that leader to communicate during
positive and negative times. The leader will also value their employees and will genuinely care about
their employees. Unlike traditional leadership where people were counted as expendable and
replaceable, the new approach to leadership values the asset which is the employee. For example, a
leader will have meeting with all levels of management to explain and go over in detail a vision in
which the lower level employees will be able to share their vision. This shared vision has the potential

Corporatism Vs Communism
Finally, there are several classifications applicable to DPRK as a false communist state. Cummings,
2005 describes DPRK as something that evolved into a singular and puzzling nation that resists easy
description and this is because no universally recognised brand of ideology can be granted. D. Suh
states In the three decades since its establishment the political system (...) has undergone fundamental
changes. With the advent of a new socialist constitution in 1972, emphasis seemed to shift from the
party to the legitimacy and operation of the government. The government developed from a satellite
communist state to a self reliant member of the third world . Kim Il Sung emerged from the volatility
of the 1950s as the undisputed leader in the 1960s and promoted himself as the leader of the third

It predated the emergence of liberalism, it fueled the romantics of the nineteenth and twentieth
centuries (...) and it sparks the dreams of utopians who envision a transcendence of liberalism.
Essentially, corporatism is the control of state by large interest groups and in history is displayed in
three primal themes. Traditional corporatism includes a hierarchy, organic connection and family.
These have three great images that resonate with it political fatherhood, the body politic and the great
chain, examples of this are Mussolini and Henry VIII. The ideology of Kim Il Sung resonated loudly
with the ideologies of corporatism however in typical DPRK fashion, North Korea developed a unique
sect. Key to DPRK s corporatism is a philosophy of a God like figure, a beloved father of the people.
An almighty saviour. Cummings describes how the personality cult surrounding the Kim dynasty
means North Korea is closer to a Neo Confucian kingdom than to a Stalin s Russia . Thus, as the
features of North Korean society deem the nation far from communism and closer to that of

Breastfeed In Health Care
Nutritional status is the balance between nutrient intake and nutrient requirements (Jarvis, 2012).
Optimal nutritional status is achieved when sufficient nutrients are consumed to support [the] body s
needs and any increased metabolic demands caused by growth, pregnancy, or illness (Jarvis, 2012).
Newborns require intense nutritional and metabolic needs as they increase 50% in their length in the
first year of life and double it by 4 years of age (Jarvis, 2012). Breast milk provides specific nutrition
that meets the infant s nutritional needs and there has been indisputable evidence from research that
demonstrates the health benefits of breastfeeding infants including a lower incidence [of diseases]
such as otitis media, atopic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And so, these are some reasons why breastmilk and breastfeeding are actively encouraged in health
care (DHHS, 2014). However, when a new mother refuses to breastfeed it is important for nurses to
explore the positive and negative aspects of breastfeeding from the mother s perspective (Barrientos
Bylaska Davies, 2015). This is because nurses spend the most time with mothers during the pre and
post partum period, as well as care for the infants following delivery (Barrientos Bylaska Davies,
2015). Therefore with effective communication and education on different options for feeding, and by
conducting frequent nutritional assessments of the infant the nurse can ensure adequate nutrition for
the infant. The Best Start 3 Step Breastfeeding Counseling Strategy can be used: by asking the mother
open ended questions, affirming her feelings, and educating the mother on the advantages for both the
mother and the child (Lazarov Evans, 2011). It is important to note that educating the mother with
information should not be overwhelming but should be in small amounts of information that is
relevant for the individual mother (yellowpdf). If the new mother still is undecided about
breastfeeding the nurse should continue to encourage the use of breastmilk, expressed milk, and
pumping (DHHS,

Zeffirelli s Romeo And Juliet
The 1968 film Romeo and Juliet showed some of the best cinematography of its day winning up to

great Renaissance writer William Shakespeare. Romeo and Juliet was directed by Franco Zeffirelli,
the two main characters Romeo and Juliet are played by Leonard Whiting and Olivia Hussey who
were both new actors when the movie was first directed. The two new actors and the movie would be

The exposition, like always is used to explain the main problem of the story, in this tragedy the main
problem is that the Montagues and Capulets are feuding. Then in the Rising action The film then has a
few different scenes of Romeo and Juliet separately until Romeo and some other Montagues go to a
Capulet Ball where the narrative hook of Romeo and Juliet meeting for the first time happens. Shortly
after Romeo and Juliet meet the famous balcony scene takes place takes place where Juliet and Romeo
meet at a balcony on the Montague mansion. With Romeo climbing and nearly falling out of Trees and
Juliet nearly jumping off of the balcony the scene is very well directed and shows a lot of passion.

Chapter 6 Early Americas Summary
Critical Thinking Chapter 6: Early Americas
1. What were the foundations of Aztec religious thought?
The Mexica were a group that moved into the Valley of Mexico after Teotihuacan fell. Their origins
are unknown. Their original homeland was believed to be an island in a lake called Aztlan. The name
Aztec comes from their legendary homeland. They were not as sophisticated as their neighbors and
had to be alliances with stronger city states. They were good warriors and in the fifteenth century, they
had control over most of modern Mexico. The Aztecs promoted their patron god, Huitzilopochtli to
guide the people in the kingdom. The Aztec state was authoritarian. Most of the population was

How advanced was the Anasazi culture in the southwestern regions of North America?
Most Amerindian people lived by hunting or food gathering west of the Mississippi River basin.
Agriculture knowledge spread up the rivers to the Great Plains during the first millennium C.E.
Farming was practiced far west. The Anasazi culture was really advanced in the southwestern regions
of North America. An agricultural community was established by the Anasazi people from northern
New Mexico and Arizona southwestern Colorado and southern Utah. They never discovered the wheel
or used beasts of burden. However, a system of roads that caused change in technology, products, and
ideas was created by the Anasazi. The art of irrigation was mastered by the Anasazi by the ninth
century. The Anasazi expanded their productive efforts to squash and beans. An urban center at Chaco
Canyon, in southern New Mexico was also established. A walled city with many three story roofs
called pueblos was built by the Anasazi. Kivas were two large circular chambers and community
religious functions were carried out here. Hides or cotton cloth are what clothes were made from.
Pueblo Bonito had hundreds of compounds that housed thousands of

Designing An Oversized Throw Quilt For My Daughter As A...

Section One: Chain Model
1.
I would like to make an oversized throw quilt for my daughter as a birthday gift.
2.
a) choose a quilt pattern, b) decide on a color palette and fabric, c) cut out fabric pieces, d) sew
pieces together, add batting and quilt back, e) send to quilter, and f) bind quilt to finish.
3.
In order to accomplish this project for my daughter I will need $205 to cover the costs of supplies and
quilter s fee. It will take approximately 18 hours for my labor and one hour for the quilters to finish
the quilt. The space in my schedule is limited and my daughter s birthday is four weeks away, so the
18 hours will be divided into 6 hours per weekend for a total of three weekends.

We have been approved for a vehicle loan of $15,000 with a two percent interest rate through the local
credit union, which would make our payments $232 per month. It is very important we find a
dealership in our community that has a great reputation. This dealership also needs a service
department to assist us with any future mechanical needs. The vehicles will need a CARFAX report
available to give a detailed list of possible accidents, service record, number of owners, and the states
where the vehicle has been registered. This is the most important information needed to make a good
decision. 4.
This model allows us to choose based on what works best for our budget and our needs. There are
simple things such as paint color that are not as important as price and mileage. Over all we were able
to make the best choice since it was one we would be stuck with for a while.

I am excited to present these options to transfer outreach between the two communities, The Villages

rate in The Villages Spotlight should be $1501 per month. However, because we value your continued
business, I will honor the same rate of $653 per month as agreed to in 2016. With further
investigation, it appears that monthly investment and discount is broken down to the following:
Monthly Rate $1154 Discounted at 45% ________________ Subtotal $634.70 Mgmt. Fee of $19

Enslavement of the Individual in Capitalist Society as...
Bourgeois society enslaves the individual such that any attempt to transcend one s environmental
limitations results in self destruction. Nietzsche slave morality theory is applicable to the works of
Dostoyevsky, Mann, and Ibsen, and posits that an individual uprising under a bourgeois blanket leads
to reactivity, not activity. Though each man calls for individuals values to be raised in some way (in
the case of Nietzsche, by an über mensch), each understands the impossibility of that under bourgeois
rule. Marx argues that the only way to restore individuality is for the proletariat to band together and
overthrow the society that hinders its freedom. Only then will slave morality be erased as individuals
forge active change. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This proposes that an individual is allowed to impose his own values on society. However,
Raskolnikov s actions imply that he still operates out of a slave mentality. He eats his soup in a
mechanical sort of way (1, 6, p.86), and in the murder of the landlady he almost mechanically struck
her (1, 6, p.96). The crime seals Raskolnikov s isolation, which is necessary for an extraordinary man
to set himself apart from the rest and defeat his slave impulses; he tells his mother and sister, I want to
be alone. Better forget me altogether (4, 3, p.328). However, even the self sufficient Svidrigaylov
demonstrates a human requirement for the company of others, indicating his own lavishness: And I
shall be your slave‹for the rest of my life (6, 5, p.506). Further examples refute Raskolnikov s theory.
He wonders if man isn t really a beast‹man in generalŠthe whole human raceŠthen all the rest is just
prejudice, just imagined fears (1, 2, p.44). Raskolnikov s, or any single man s, inability to rise out of
the morass of bourgeois complacency is pointed out by a bar patron, who asks Would you kill the old
woman yourself?ŠIf you are not ready to do it yourself, it s not a question of justice at all (1, 6, p.86).
The Raskolnikov does eventually kill her by himself, the important idea presented here is that no
single person has the strength or will to combat bourgeois morality by himself; rather, there

Women s Role In Ancient Rome
Role of Women in Ancient Rome Women in ancient Rome played a vital role in the transition of
political power in the roman government. Although the Roman women were not allowed to formally
hold office or vote, they often were influencing their men in regard to political decisions. These
women were typically working in the background and although they may not get the explicit mention
they deserve in historical texts, without their actions Rome may have had a very different outcome. In
Livy s The History of Rome, three instances involving women had a significant impact on the
development of the Roman government. In Livy s first book of The History of Rome, he narrates the
events that occur around Lucretia , daughter of Lucretius. Lucretia became

public finance is the study of the financial activities of governments and public authorities. divided
into three categories: a Knowing what activities the public sector engages in and how these are
organized (that is, revenue gathering and expenditures) b Understanding and foreseeing the full
consequences of these governmental activities c Evaluating alternative policies.
The positive side describes the activities of the public sector, explains the reasons of the programs in
existence and also analyses the consequences of government policies

  • 2. Descartes Philosophy Descartes Philosophy Rene Descartes is a philosopher that lived during the Enlightenment period and is famous for his philosophy of methodological doubt. His method of doubt was psychological in character, involved a kind of rational insight, and implied a justified belief analysis of knowledge, with justification construed in terms of being unshakable. (Newman) An important function of his method was to enable people to redirect their attention from the senses to clear and distinct ideas through intellect, reason, and doubt. Descartes understood knowledge as advancing truth. The Enlightenment was an intellectual period that brought about ideas of God, reason, nature, and man. It was a period of political and social upheaval that brought about revolutions and a period of learning to think for oneself, employing and relying on the individual s capabilities to determine how to think and act. (Bristow) Philosophy of that period caused tension with established religions. By using the intellect to think and act, it required opposing the role of established religion by redirecting thoughts and actions. It brought people to a higher human existence that was more fulfilled. Men became more rational and developed goals of obtaining more knowledge, freedom, and happiness. With turmoil in the empire, people became concerned for personal salvation, which also opposed the role of religion. Established religion of those days taught that people should follow along without ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Effects Of Income Inequality In The 1920s Even if the 1920 s seem affluent and prosperous on the surface, the realities of time contradicted such notions; in fact, it can be clearly stated that this decade should not be judged as an era of wealth. Inequality was rampant in society at this time, especially when it comes to stark income differences between the upper, middle and lower classes. While it can be said that the upper classes, who make up a mere 1% of the population enjoyed most of these materialistic luxuries, the vast majority of the American population was barely getting by. To start, a majority of the American populace was not earning enough money to situation their daring lifestyles. Generally, it can be said that the jobs they held often had lots of work hours and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The 1920 s had a huge case of income inequality, and there was a drastic difference in how people across the financial spectrum lived their lives. While some people could barely afford basic necessities like food, medicine, shelter etc, this small subsection of the population lived extravagantly. They could afford new cars, lavish balls and expensive restaurants, and could absentmindedly spend their money anywhere they desire. To add to this, the rise in per capita income for top 1% of the population in 1920 1929 was 75% (a stark contrast to the fact that the per capita income for the rest of the country only rose by 9%). Also, the top 1% make up 23.9% of the total income/cash flow in the country, which is an extremely unproportional percentage for it to come from such a small portion of the entire country. Since income inequality was so prevalent in this era, the supposed affluence of this era can t be fully supported or justified. It is clear that the vast majority was just wasting away on their savings, and that only a lucky few actually were able to afford all the diverse activities they were involved ... • 4. Controversies On Human Sociobiology By Edward Wilson Sara Studenski Animal Behavior May 6, 2015 Controversies in Human Sociobiology Edward Wilson described the term sociobiology in his literature, Sociobiology: The New Synthesis, as the systematic study of the biological basis of all social behavior (1975). Although that is a mouthful, it is this author s opinion that the most important part of that description is the word biological. It seems to imply that sociobiology is nothing more than biological reactions in a social situation; it s the meat and potatoes of our actions, but is that really all there is to it? Can how we behave in every day life, with our families, with our friends, and even during our moments of (hopefully) deep philosophical contemplation be condensed into biological processes? The same biological processes that enable us to see, hear, and remember to breath? Maybe that is the case, but perhaps there it is something more therein lies the controversy. That is not to cheapen the aforementioned biological processes, as they are, of course, crucial to life. Reducing human interaction to solely biological processes, though, has unsettled many, from the time of Edward Wilson even to present day. With that said, it is clear, from his later works, that Wilson leaves room for other factors to determine our interactions with one another and even our destinies. To say that everything is left up to biology would be a mistake, even in the eyes of Edward Wilson. In his work, On Human Nature, he does ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Pros And Cons Of Homophobia In America In America, there are laws and policies to protect the working class. Employers can not discriminate on employees based on race or gender, although sexual orientation is not covered by such laws. This leaves gay people venerable to discrimination in the work place or the termination of their job, because of how they choose to express their sexuality. This venerability caused by the lack of anti discrimination laws. This puts gay people into a situation that is less stable than their heterosexual counter parts. As long as a person s intimate relationships do not impact work performance, then a person s relationship choices, gay or not, should not be a concern to the employer. Alleviating homophobia in education, would allow for more LGB people to get the education that is needed to get a secure job. John Iceland, Professor of Sociology and Demography at Pennsylvania State University, in his book Poverty in America: A Handbook, explores how inequality in opportunity plays a large role in driving poverty. He explains that in globalization of trade and sending jobs overseas for cheaper labor, makes less unskilled jobs for people in America. Iceland explains those who are more likely to lose their jobs are more likely to fall into poverty. He observes that an uneducated people are having a harder time getting a job, and higher education is necessary to get a well paying secure job (Iceland). The discrimination makes it harder for homosexual people to get an education, therefore making it harder for them to secure a stable job in the current state of the economy. Billions of coins and bills are used every day in the U.S and the production of this system of money is generating risks to the environment. The coin and the bill have different attributions to the environment, the cycle to produce a single coin/bill requires various materials and processes. Defining Characteristics Of The 12 Step Approach Introduction A brief overview of the defining characteristics of the 12 step approach (Baldwin et al., 2011, Bateson, 1971, Jellinek, 1960, Lacan and Miller, 1998, Raikhel and Garriott, 2013, Schenker, 2009, University of Chester, 2016, Wilcox, 1998) with particular focus on its definition (NCCMH, 2008) and UK based studies (Best et al., 2001, Day et al., 2005, Harris et al., 2003) recognising the translatability of the 12 steps relating to higher power and personal responsibility (Appendix 1, p.11) create tensions for client/patient engagement (Best et al., 2001, Harris et al., 2003) and staff/professional referral (Day et al., 2005). A commissioned report by National Collaborating Centre for Mental Health (NCCMH, 2008) by National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and a recent 8 year review of the aforementioned (NICE, 2016) inform current NICE guidelines including referrals to 12 step (NICE, 2007). The current evidence base (NCCMH, 2008) uses a systematic review of the literature (McAuliffe, 1990, Etheridge et al., 1999, Moos et al., 1999, Fiorentine and Hillhouse, 2000, Toumbourou et al., 2002, Weiss et al., 2005, Timko et al., 2006). An 8 year review of the evidence (NICE, 2016) finds no new evidence to warrant evolving the existing guideline, providing supporting evidence and emerging evidence to inform the current guidelines (Johnson et al., 2006, Kelly et al., 2010, Laudet et al., 2006, McKellar et al., 2009, Timko and DeBenedetti, 2007). • 9. Bigger Than Life By Nicholas Ray Nicholas Ray s Bigger Than Life is a story of an American family man who tries to have it all and fails because of his addiction. In an effort to visually portray this, Ray largely abandons conventional Cinemascope practices and tends to revert to the paradigms of the Academy ratio. Rather than using Cinemascope to highlight spectacle, Ray films a small family melodrama. Instead of splitting the screen into thirds and adjusting the mise en scène to visually fill up the screen, Ray uses close ups, single person shots, and symmetry. He frequently divides the screen in two at the center, essentially treating each side as an Academy ratio film. Since Ray focuses less on clotheslining actors, he is able to bring the audience closer to understand the psychology of Ed Avery (and physcially closer to him than most Cinemascope films would go). The sequence towards the end of film is of paramount importance Ray takes the tension, anger, cruelty, and derangement that has been building throughout the film and raises it to a high enough level that Ed is willing to kill his own son. To get this across, Ray uses composition to show Ed as isolated, sinister, and dangerous. Two of the scenes in particular from the sequence deviate from his regular techniques, as he stages the family in a single frame to highlight the growing distance between them all. Throughout the film, Ray used close ups to show Ed s mental state; in this sequence, Ray largely abandons that technique Ed s state of mind ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Bigger Than A Hamburger, By Ella Baker In 1960 Ella Baker delivered a speech entitled Bigger than a Hamburger to what would come to be the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). In this speech she argued to students who had been involved in the sit ins that what they were fighting for was bigger than a hamburger and desegregating a lunch counter, but struggling for equality in all its forms. In a similar way, so too has the fight for quality education been bigger than a classroom. Ella Baker also argued that, through the process of education, black people would be accepted in the American culture and they would be accorded their rights in proportion to the degree to which they qualified as being persons of learning and culture. This is a testament to the over 200 year tradition within the black community of viewing education as inseparable with the concepts of freedom and citizenship. During slavery anyone found to be assembling in an effort to teach slaves to read and write received corporal punishment. Consequently, throughout Reconstruction education was pursued with a vengeance. Freedmen s Bureau agents reported, Colored men have paid their own money to prepare and furnish a room for a school. The Rosenwald Fund, a charity organization headed by the president of the Sears Roebuck Company, donated funds to build black schools, but the funds had to be matched by those from the local school system. • 14. The Core Components Of The Social Exchange Theory Social Exchange Theory is grounded in the idea that people assess their relationships from an economic perspective when pertaining to costs and rewards that are identified amongst different relational partners. It is within this paper that we discuss the core components that make up the theory, the possible advantages and disadvantages of its use, as well as touch base on a real world communication example the Social Exchange Theory can be associated with. There are multiple core components that have been identified and further constructed in which make up the Social Exchange Theory. West and Turner (2014) further explain that costs are the factors that contribute to the negative value we place on relationships while rewards are rather the positive values. Additionally, West and Turner proceed with the idea that we evaluate all types of relationships by using the following equation: Worth = Rewards Costs When rewards are greater than the costs, or the final amount is a positive number, it is considered to be a positive relationship, whereas a negative number would indicate the relationship to be negative. The Social Exchange Theory then acknowledges the worth of these relationships and the outcomes that will be endured, or whether or not relationships will hold stable or instead be terminated. It is the idea that individuals enter into and maintain relationships as long as it is satisfying both person s self interest. Social Exchange Theory is based on the idea that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For a substrate to be converted into a product, enzymes must collide with a substrate and bind to its active site. As the temperature increase, the number of collisions per unit time increases which in turn increases the kinetic energy of the protein. This increases the chances of the substrate to successfully collide with an enzyme. Thus the rate of the reaction will also increase. When the temperature gets too high, the increase in Kinetic energy causes a lot of vibrations in the enzyme leading to the hydrogen bonds breaking. The shape of the active site on the protein now changes. The enzyme s intra and intermolecular bonds are broken causing the enzyme structure to denature (break down). (1) (3) . Ionic interactions between positively and negatively charged amino acids hold enzymes together. The ionization state of amino acids (acidic of basic) can be affected by a change in the pH in which the enzymatic reaction occurs and are sensitive to hydrogen ion concentration. The majority of enzymes function over a small pH range. When pH is altered the rate of enzyme reaction reduce considerably and the balance between positively and negatively charged amino acids are shifted. False Confessions Case Study Even in the case of presenting false evidence, like DNA, fingerprints or video recorded material in order to get a confession from the suspect, participants found this procedure extremely coercive but apparently not coercive enough to elicit a false confession. According to above results, it seems that potential jurors do not seem to realize that there is a very important connection between coercive interrogations and false confessions. If jurors cannot be open to the idea of a false confession being a product of a psychological pressure under interrogation then this would definitely have a critical impact on the outcome of a trial. Think about this quote. You don t have to be a rich person, or a famous actor to do something great. You can help someone in need just by showing them a smile. This is what Miep Gies did for the entire Frank family, and the other members of the annex household, which we only know about because of Anne Frank s diary. Her diary became a play, The Diary of Anne Frank, written by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett. Evidence of this is in The Diary of Anne Frank; act II; scene 1; line 158; Anne says: Miep has to run the business and us too. This sentence shows that Meip was working hard to run the business and protect the annex family. Furthermore, Miep shows us that even during times of great tragedy, people still thought about, and did considerate things, for others. They still put their own needs and wants aside to help others. An example of this is when Miep uses all of her sugar rations to bake a cake for the annex. In The Diary of Anne Frank, act 2; scene 1; line 25; Mrs. Frank says Thank you, Miepia. The meaning of ethic s is hard to define; people have their own thoughts about what ethics is about. The word ethics often times is a link with law or religion. Initially, in my first two orders, I confused the backlog and inventory sections, so that I believed I had a significant surplus in inventory. Therefore, rather than minimizing the bullwhip of supply and demand, I exacerbated the problem by limiting my supply well below the number of orders coming in, much less below what I could fill with the backlog and incoming orders. This error on my part certainly led to increasing instability, not only in my own incoming orders, but also in the entire supply chain. The simulation also kept auto filling my initial order, which was only 10,000 cases, despite me ordering a significantly larger number of cases. I could not get the simulation to operate properly and allow me to place a larger order. It kept auto ordering the 10,000 cases. I could not get it to place an order other than 10,000 cases. Because of this glitch, I continued to increase my backlog. I simply could not order more than 10,000 cases. I address this issue because the glitch certainly impacted my opinion of the computer simulation as a means of learning. In this scenario, the initial computer simulation was absolutely worthless as a learning tool. I made an error in my first order, but I do not think that error was meaningful. Instead, it appears that whatever number of cases I placed in my initial order would be the number of cases ordered over the next several ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The phenomena of correspondence bias are a huge factor in social psychology in today s world. Correspondence bias is the idea that people have the tendency to attribute one s behavior in a certain instance to an essential part of another person s being, character, and inner values. When in it can all be explained by the environment and the situation before this action had occurred. For example, if you are meeting someone for the first time and they are rude when you speak with them. Then you go off and think this person is a rude and disrespectful person in general, when in reality they were only that way because their wife just cheated on them. Following this growth in use of e commerce in business to business markets, there has been important adoption of latest supply chain related technology and applications by organizations globally. The procurement function has been notably stricken by this trend with a foretold growth in e procurement applications covering each transactional shopping for and strategic sourcing activities (Croom S, 2000). Procurement is a central service provided by a zealous team of executives. It functions at the interface between the organizations, the external supplier, marketplace and also the organizations operational processes (Knudsen D, 2003). Communication needs to takes place at all levels from initial training to senior management training roles. A leader will use communication to relay information to all employees at all levels. When doing so, all employees should understand why the organization exists, what the organization does, what the long term growth outlook is and most importantly in my opinion, the important things the company does not do. When leaders use clear and honest communication they are increasing their chances that the employees will build positive emotional bank account deposits while building trust. An employee will trust that leader to communicate during positive and negative times. The leader will also value their employees and will genuinely care about their employees. For example, a leader will have meeting with all levels of management to explain and go over in detail a vision in which the lower level employees will be able to share their vision. Cummings, 2005 describes DPRK as something that evolved into a singular and puzzling nation that resists easy description and this is because no universally recognised brand of ideology can be granted. D. Suh states In the three decades since its establishment the political system (...) has undergone fundamental changes. With the advent of a new socialist constitution in 1972, emphasis seemed to shift from the party to the legitimacy and operation of the government. It predated the emergence of liberalism, it fueled the romantics of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries (...) and it sparks the dreams of utopians who envision a transcendence of liberalism. Essentially, corporatism is the control of state by large interest groups and in history is displayed in three primal themes. Traditional corporatism includes a hierarchy, organic connection and family. These have three great images that resonate with it political fatherhood, the body politic and the great chain, examples of this are Mussolini and Henry VIII. The ideology of Kim Il Sung resonated loudly with the ideologies of corporatism however in typical DPRK fashion, North Korea developed a unique sect. Key to DPRK s corporatism is a philosophy of a God like figure, a beloved father of the people. An almighty saviour. Optimal nutritional status is achieved when sufficient nutrients are consumed to support [the] body s needs and any increased metabolic demands caused by growth, pregnancy, or illness (Jarvis, 2012). Newborns require intense nutritional and metabolic needs as they increase 50% in their length in the first year of life and double it by 4 years of age (Jarvis, 2012). However, when a new mother refuses to breastfeed it is important for nurses to explore the positive and negative aspects of breastfeeding from the mother s perspective (Barrientos Bylaska Davies, 2015). This is because nurses spend the most time with mothers during the pre and post partum period, as well as care for the infants following delivery (Barrientos Bylaska Davies, 2015). Therefore with effective communication and education on different options for feeding, and by conducting frequent nutritional assessments of the infant the nurse can ensure adequate nutrition for the infant. The Best Start 3 Step Breastfeeding Counseling Strategy can be used: by asking the mother open ended questions, affirming her feelings, and educating the mother on the advantages for both the mother and the child (Lazarov Evans, 2011). It is important to note that educating the mother with information should not be overwhelming but should be in small amounts of information that is relevant for the individual mother (yellowpdf). • 49. Enslavement of the Individual in Capitalist Society as... Bourgeois society enslaves the individual such that any attempt to transcend one s environmental limitations results in self destruction. Nietzsche slave morality theory is applicable to the works of Dostoyevsky, Mann, and Ibsen, and posits that an individual uprising under a bourgeois blanket leads to reactivity, not activity. Though each man calls for individuals values to be raised in some way (in the case of Nietzsche, by an über mensch), each understands the impossibility of that under bourgeois rule. Marx argues that the only way to restore individuality is for the proletariat to band together and overthrow the society that hinders its freedom. Only then will slave morality be erased as individuals forge active change. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This proposes that an individual is allowed to impose his own values on society. However, Raskolnikov s actions imply that he still operates out of a slave mentality. He eats his soup in a mechanical sort of way (1, 6, p.86), and in the murder of the landlady he almost mechanically struck her (1, 6, p.96). The crime seals Raskolnikov s isolation, which is necessary for an extraordinary man to set himself apart from the rest and defeat his slave impulses; he tells his mother and sister, I want to be alone. Better forget me altogether (4, 3, p.328). However, even the self sufficient Svidrigaylov demonstrates a human requirement for the company of others, indicating his own lavishness: And I shall be your slave‹for the rest of my life (6, 5, p.506). Further examples refute Raskolnikov s theory. He wonders if man isn t really a beast‹man in generalŠthe whole human raceŠthen all the rest is just prejudice, just imagined fears (1, 2, p.44). Raskolnikov s, or any single man s, inability to rise out of the morass of bourgeois complacency is pointed out by a bar patron, who asks Would you kill the old woman yourself?ŠIf you are not ready to do it yourself, it s not a question of justice at all (1, 6, p.86). The Raskolnikov does eventually kill her by himself, the important idea presented here is that no single person has the strength or will to combat bourgeois morality by himself; rather, there ...
