Funeral Oration And Pericles Speech
Cyril Klutse
4th October,2017
7am Class
While everyone has their own opinion, and is more than entitled to share it, other s beliefs and
thoughts influence most people. Politics and opinions of leaders on the way in which a country must
govern are often easy portals to access an impressionable mind. Throughout history, those with
opposing viewpoints on democracy have often spoke up and shared their opinions with the world in
hopes of being heard. Aristotle, Pericles and Xenophon have each taken a turn in doing so, and made
their feelings obvious to the people. All opinions were very different; Aristotle s being more of an
open minded approach towards democracy (not completely dismissing the idea of it), Pericles being in
total agreement with it, and Xenophon being sarcastic and exceptionally opposed.
In Pericles Funeral Oration , he speaks strongly in favor of a democratic nation and talks about how
and why that s important. He specifically mentions that personal freedoms are allowed because of
their democratic way of life, but also conveys the point that while the people were free to live for
themselves, they chose to live for one another as well, and all hoped to better the city as a positively
functioning society. Throughout the address he praises Athenians, their military, and explains to the
people how their system of government was to responsible for their success and that it set them apart
from other nations. His belief in Democracy was understandable and holds in a similar way today by
many people. But while democracy does help immensely with the formation of a nation, Pericles did
not discuss that none of the positive attributes stemming from democracy would be possible without
the positive actions of his people, with or without it. He didn t necessarily give credit where credit was
due, however, he did seem to be on the right track with what would hopefully grow to be the best form
of government and for the right reasons; people choosing to live for each other in a positive way is just
as important (if not more) than people choosing to live rightly for themselves.
Aristotle s view on democracy is much different from Pericles in that while Pericles preached of how
each man was both a citizen

Examples Of Microtransactions
So what exactly are microtransactions? Microtransactions can be defined as the exchange of real
money for virtual goods. It is a system where users can purchase virtual goods via micropayments.
hence the term microtransaction ( Microtransaction 2017.) This type of business model is common in
free to play games and is typically used to speed up progression within the game itself. However,
some developers have decided to incorporate microtransactions despite customers already paying the
full price for the game. While this is not necessarily an issue if the goods are cosmetic and have no
effect on the core gameplay, it is an issue if it provides users who pay for offered goods with an unfair
advantage over free to play players. One might ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In my opinion, this was a blatant money grab by EA and in no way ethical because they were not
acting in the interest of their clients (the users) and utilizing us as a means to an end. They could have
made the same game sans the microtransactions and have made a reasonable profit from the cost of
the base game itself, but instead chose to make a greedy decision to increase profit margins for what
would have been a successful game regardless. Had I been the one to make the decision, I would have
lowered the time sink required to unlock heroes by a substantial amount, and limited the
microtransactions to cosmetic items. That way, the needs of the customers would have been satisfied,
but the company would have still made more profit than it normally would. In summary, the decision
was not ethical because they acted against the interest of the customers and instead decided to further
their own profits. To understand why microtransactions have become so prevalent one has to
understand the history of them first. Microtransactions date as far back as early 2005 with the release
of the Xbox Live Marketplace. Back then, players could purchase virtual goods such

Minimum Wage Impact
The Impact of Minimum Wage on the Economy In the 20th century, was the first time that the United
States created the minimum wage and would influence world wide economies. Since then, this
economic system has been a controversial topic all over the world between the workers and
employers. Historically, we can analyze the positive and negative effects of raising the minimum
wage. Moreover, literature researchers have also analyzed the impact of the minimum wage on the
economy on social, economic, and professional aspects. Therefore, the following literature reviews
will discuss these aspects which are fast food unionization, the grocery stores wage distribution, low
wage work in five European countries and the USA, minimum wages reduce employment
possibilities, inequality trends, the consequences of doubling the minimum wage, employment effects
of minimum and subminimum wages, certifying voluntary living wage employers, minimum wage
and Mexican and Central American influx, and collective bargaining. First, the fast food industry is
one of many factors that is impacted by the minimum wage. Matter of fact, the fast food workers
demanded that the minimum wage is raised to $15 since the average wage for workers is $8.94 and
this does not include wage theft, such as no overtime pay, not receiving proper break times, and
missing hours from the paychecks. Additionally, low wages bring down collective action among the
workers, the workers hours are never guaranteed and are sent

There Are No Mountains Like The Himalaya Essay
There are no mountains like the Himalaya for in them are Kailash and Manasarovar. As the dew is
dried up by the morning sun, so are the sins of mankind by the sight of the Himachal. The Ramayana
saga
Nothing has given humankind a bigger sense of divinity than mountains and no place can make you
more aware of their power than the Himalaya. Beyond their sight, which may change your life; when
you walk the crowded city streets, get into temples or hotels throughout Asia, you are unwittingly
seeing mountains and finding hidden messages about them. Such is the influence of the Himalaya, that
they are at the very core of Asian religions and shaped Asian cosmology, ... Show more content on

I grew up surrounded by amazing mountains, but Canary Islanders belong to a culture much more
related to the sea. I was lucky to study Indology before going to Nepal and for years I longed for that
country and only when I came back I saw mine and loved them. But what happens to those who
remained insensitive to the Himalaya and blind to the hidden messages? Well, there is hope if they
traveled close to the people who have been constantly exposed to them. The ones who not only made
them into food and eat them, turned into speech and chant them or stepped into them but who also
climb and live from the mountains; the Sherpa.
The ones who burn juniper as an offering to the mountains not only before the climbing but as long as
anyone remains up there. Beyond worship, this is an exercise on caring about others. After the
earthquake in 2015 people on Everest described everybody crouching down helplessly on the
mountain while the earth was shaking. They listened not only to its roaring but also the loud mantras
the Sherpa were chanting to appease the mountain. Their beliefs and way of life are made of all these

Multiple Signs Of Infection, Retinal Vascular Sheathing...
Our patient presented with multiple signs of infection, which can t initially be pinpointed to one
disease alone. The three important signs to initially address and understand the science behind are
perivasculitis, retinal vascular sheathing and retinal hemorrhages. All three medical definitions appear
straightforward and all very similar, but the combination of the three leads to a serious diagnosis and
urgency for this patient.
Perivasculitis is an inflammation of a sheath surrounding the tissue 1. In class we discussed the
differences between perivasculitis and periflabitis. Perivasculitis should be white because of the
inflammation and the white blood cells then spilling out. The Prefix peri means around, or on the
outside of the tissue. Retinal vascular sheathing is sheathing or cuffing of blood vessels and vitreous
cells . The swelling or cuffing of blood vessels in the retinal layer is a serious condition and is often
associated with vasculitis. Finally, a retinal hemorrhage is abnormal bleeding of the vessels in the
retina 2. Retinal hemorrhages can be caused for a variety of reasons such as injuries like forceful
blows or accidents and falls, as well as adverse health conditions. We know that the loss of vision can
be largely attributed to the excess debris that is currently located in the eye, the debris being blood that
is leaking out. Our case states that he has no previous trauma however, proving that there is an ulterior

The Ideal American Family Analysis
As stated in an article by Kimi Kennedy entitled Television: The Ideal American Family, most
American families portrayed on television in the late 40s and early 50s consisted of a husband, wife
and 2.5 kids (Kennedy). In Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman, the Loman family seems to perfectly
fit the mold of a family living the American dream; however, the actions of the family show that
everything is not what it seems. Although the Lomans appear to be the ideal family of the time, the
way in which the family treats each other directly contrast with other fictional families of the time.
The family s treatment of Happy exemplifies the lack of attention given to some children within
American families. Throughout the play, Happy often takes a back seat to Biff when it comes to
getting his parents attention. In Act I on pages 1851 1853 Happy says multiple times, I m ... Show

Willy is conflicted about his feelings toward Biff. On page 1844, while talking to Linda, Willy goes
from saying, The trouble is he s lazy... to saying That s one thing about Biff he s not lazy in a matter of
seconds (Miller). Biff also feels conflicted about his father. Biff cannot seem to decide if he really
loves his father or not. On page 1864, Biff is confident in his love toward his mother yet, the love he
feels for his father seems to be an afterthought (Miller).
The Loman family seems like the ideal American family based on television in the 1940s and 50s.
Willy, Linda, Biff, and Happy, however, do not get along very well and most they all have secrets that
they keep from each other. The Lomans first appear to be a typical fictional family of the time
consisting of a mother, father, and two children, but soon show their flaws. Arthur Miller breaks the
mold for the fictional families of the time in his play Death of a Salesman by highlighting the flaws
and downfalls of each member of the

Who Is The Protagonist In The Night Of The Hunter
The Night of the Hunter
Anna N. Beach
Paper #1
March 7, 2011
The Night of The Hunter is a thriller written by Davis Grubb in 1953. It is imaginably chilling and
disturbing. The book is based upon a true story of a frightening man who was hung for murdering two
women and three children. One of the main characters portrayed as the murderer, plays the role of
Harry Powell, who was just released from prison, but describes himself as a man of God, and a
preacher of the word. His psychotic inclinations lead him to a journey of a desperate pursuit of money,
left behind by his prison mate Ben Harper. The story leads to an anticipating tale, of a dream like
fantasy. Written to be an adult novel the two main characters, John and ... Show more content on

John nearly shut down and shut out all who were against him. He focused on what was important,
which was his and Pearl s survival. Pearl on the other hand, being only 4 years old lived as though
nothing was wrong. She was very naive, and didn t understand what was happening; she lived in her
own imaginary world. Although, John and Pearl play extremely important roles in the novel, there are
other characters that bring together the story and are important to the overall theme. Harry Powell, the
preacher, is disturbing. He was a mass murderer who killed women for money. His psychotic mind led
him to believe that God was telling him to commit the crimes. He was conniving and immoral. He
tricked people into believing that he was a righteous man, who obeyed by the laws of the bible.
Willa, John and Pearls mother, was gullible and influenced easily. She was very trusting of Harry
Powell s word, and refused to believe anyone else but him. She wanted nothing but to impress him.
She felt that he would be a great father figure to the children. Her trust in Harry Powell leads her to
her death. Another character in the story, Rachel, a tough, resolute individual, believed in defending
herself and others she cared about especially those such as John, and Pearl. Deep down at heart, even
though she seemed calloused, she was a gentle, considerate woman, with great concern for her
children that

The Irish Potato Famine In The 1800 s
Any form of death is hard on people no matter what type of death it is. During the mid 1800 s, the
world was still trading crops, livestock, and objects to each other. The different countries trusted each
other more than what was needed to be trusted of each other. Fighting for independence along with
fighting for their lives may be two different things, but for the Irish it was something horrible that
happened to them during this time. The Irish Potato Famine was an act of genocide that was
committed by the British Empire. Over the course of the seven years that the Potato Famine occurred,
there was a decrease in Ireland s population by twenty to twenty five percent. This famine happened
during the time that the different countries were trading

Preparation And Presentation Of A Company s Financial...
1 Introduction
1.1 Background to the study
Preparation and presentation of a company s financial statements is a process that is laden with the use
of estimates. The conceptual framework released by the Financial Accounting Standards Board
indicates that a company prepares financial statements with the intention of assisting investors assess
the company s future cash flow prospects (Financial Accounting Standards Board, 2010). However,
the process used by a company in assessing its cash flows is reliant on the use of estimates and
conjecture. For example, the company has to determine the fair value of its assets on an ongoing basis
if approximate value in the market is to be reflected in the financial statements. These values are
arrived ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It has also been argued that the increased use of complex financial derivatives contributed to the
confusion regarding the use of fair value accounting, especially among those companies that lacked
deep insight into the operations of the financial world (Laux Leuz, 2010). Even when there was
adequate knowledge on how these derivatives were to be accounted for, there are arguments that
companies failed to interpret the guidelines as would have been expected.
1.2 Statement of the problem
Generally, there are two approaches in determining the value of a company s assets and liabilities
(Laux Leux, 2009). One, the company can use the historical cost approach. Under this method, the
purchase cost is used as the basis of determining other factors such as the asset s loss of value that
occurs over time. Therefore, a building acquired five decades ago would be presented in the financial
statements either at the cost at which it was built or the cost of land plus construction. Depreciation is
then deducted from this cost over its lifetime. The historical cost method has some obvious
drawbacks. The historical cost method disregards the occurrence of events that have the impact of
reducing the asset s value (Hitz, 2007). For example, it is possible that the cost of land will have
appreciated immensely over the

Lion King Theme
Watching the lion king the next time around I can defiantly look at it with more understanding of the
story behind the lion king. The lion king is an apparent adaptation of Shakespeare s hamlet, by the
theme of revenge and justice. In hamlet, Claudius s murder of King Hamlet initiates Hamlet s quest
for revenge, and Claudius s death is the end of that quest. In the lion king mufsa, the king of the jungle
is murdered by his own brother scar. Young simba, mufasas son and the prince of the jungle is now
left with the gilt and responsibility to avenge his father in a battle with scar, to save pride rock and
reclaim his throne. By the theme of family and the circle of life the lion king shows the importance of

The setting of this story unlike in hamlet takes place in the jungle. There are multiple different types
of species of animals, like all of the character which are animals. From meerkat to lions you name it
they were in this story. The vines and the greener also gave the jungle theme away, but most of all in
the first scene you see all the animals gather to see the new prince of the jungle and they bow at the
sight of his presence. The jungle is where all the major events take place, where he meets timon and
pumbaa and, where he goes to find himself. Pride rock is in the jungle but this is where the lions live.
The notorious shadow land is where simaba father is killed, which is also in the jungle. The setting of

Essay on Performing Dark Arts
In comparison to text based performances, those of a non text based nature can illustrate the unity
between cultures with less difficulty due to universally understood practices and semiotics in an
increasingly globalised world. Non text based performances provide both beneficial and critical
elements when compared to text based performances and this will be analysed and demonstrated with
the example of performing the dark arts . The will ensue performances of ritualised purposes,
conjuring shows, illusionary performances, stage trickery and what is identified as magic (more so
than supernatural phenomenon or witchcraft) in order to theorise how non text based performance has
shaped modern cultures, partially through globalisation, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the performance of illusion and secular magic does so already. Secular magic, being of a non text
based nature does not, as previously mentioned, follow such rigid performance boundaries as text
based performances that stem from plays or scripts, for instance. A dramatic text can often represent
eras, time periods or a social or political message that can be taken in reference to that era or time. Not
to say that non text based performances do not, but somehow non text based performances can seem a
little more lenient when it comes to the recreation of an event. Often with classic work, such as that of
Shakespeare or Ibsen, it is a sensitive area when modernising such texts or even conveying them in a
non westernised setting as contextual elements of the original work can be lost. Similarly there are
linguistic barriers with such texts as different translations can blur the effect of the original dialogue.
Yet, if there is no translation at all then there is an obvious language barrier for those reading or
viewing a performance. Simon During

A Peaceful Day Of A Crummy Condo
It was a peaceful day in a crummy condo. Kade and I were sitting in his room. An hour of AP Social

Private Schools Vs. Private School Education Essay
There s nothing a parent wants more for their child than to get a great education. The main thing they
have to decide is if they want their child to go to public or private school. Another thing to consider is,
which type of school will provide the best education for their child. However, only some families have
this choice, and others don t. Families that aren t financially stable might not be able to afford a
private school education, even if that s what they would prefer for their children.
From previous experience, I feel as though private schools provide a better education. I do not feel it
is fair to families, or children themselves, that the cost for an opportunity to gain more knowledge at a
faster pace is not available to everyone who would like to take advantage of it. As a child, I was
attending a catholic school up until the fifth grade. Once my mother and I moved to Maryland, we
lived closer to a public school. At this time my mother was single and did nt have the funds to send me
to a private/catholic school. When I was in catholic school, I had a lot more homework and it was a bit
of a challenge. Once I started going to public school everything that was being taught was a review for
me. I continued going to public school until I graduated and the work never seemed vigorous enough
for it to benefit me or prepare me for college. From my personal experience, I feel as though a private
school education is necessary for children to be prepared for college,

The Delivery Of Healthcare Is The Proper Management Of...
One of the most pervasive issues in the delivery of healthcare is the proper management of patient
pain. In surgical settings, pain is an unavoidable consequence but one that requires handling with great
care as the unnecessary suffering of patient is legally and morally inappropriate. While pain is
typically a physical response to an external stimulus, such as a surgical procedure or the destructive
extent of disease, the recognition of pain occurs on an individual level. The brain is the ultimate
arbiter of what is painful and what is not. Due to this deeply personal context of pain, there are many
factors at play in its appearance. Some factor relate to environmental concerns while others derive
from societal and cultural impacts (Belfer, 2013). While pain is often an unwanted characteristic of
care, it is also a strong diagnostic guideline. Physicians can rapidly detect the extent of illness and
injury by following a patients expression of pain. Because of the importance of understanding pain, it
is important that nurses be acutely aware of all of the personal and cultural influences that can affect a
patient s understanding and expression of pain. Nurses with such awareness are more likely to avoid
the unfortunate situation of over or under diagnosing pain. The Joint Commission requires that all
facilities adhere to guidelines that state patients shall not suffer from unnecessary pain. The Joint
Commission also states that facilities must formally

Technological Developments Moving eight miles a minute for most of the time , while these are lyrics
to a song by Bob Seger, these words could describe a package s experience being shipped by one of
today s leading package delivery companies. How these companies have used technology to improve
their services and how they may expand the use of technology to increase productivity and reduce
costs is the focus of this paper.

While not every web tracking request would have resulted in a customer service call, the call volume
and associated costs have been decreased by 80% (Hayter, 2002).
FedEx
The second package delivery company identified is FedEx. This company originated in 1971 as
Federal Express Corp., a small delivery firm with a fleet of 14 small aircraft located in Memphis,
Tennessee. This company quickly grew and in 1994 adopted FedEx as its primary brand. Originally
called FDX Corp., FedEx Corp. was formed in January 1998 with the acquisition of Caliber System
Inc. (FedEx, 2005). From the first day a customer used overnight delivery, FedEx has been at the
leading edge of change.
We ve pioneered packaging and systems technologies and trade routes. We ve enabled new ways of
working and new business models. We ve closed the gap between virtual and physical worlds. All for
one reason – to give people access to the goods, information and markets that make their growing
expectations possible (FedEx).
This type of innovation has made FedEx a leader in the package delivery industry. One of the best
practices used by FedEx is the use of electronic tools. The company offers a wide range of electronic
tools, online interfaces, and applications that a customer can use to make shipping packages easier. By
integrating these tools, customers reduce inventory costs and

Resilience In Zolli s Learning To Bounce Back
After reading Zolli s essay on Learning to Bounce Back , I believe that Zolli is using two forms or
styles of definition, Operational and Example , he appears to use these frequently throughout his
article. It appears, that his use of these two styles is very effective as his argument moves forward. In
one part of his article, where Zolli comments on the use of LEED certified green building in Lower
Manhattan after 9/11, being very friendly to the environment, but not able to with stand environmental
impact such as power loss . I feel that this is both the usage of an example and an operational
definition. I truly feel that Zolli didn t use a formal definition of Resilience, the formal definition of

If you want to see examples of resilience, all you have to do is look at recent events. Hurricanes
Harvey, Maria and Irma, these three massive storms decimated, Houston the 4th largest city in the
U.S, caused widespread damage to the state of Florida, and let s not forget the massive destruction
throughout the Caribbean Islands. The people of these areas could have just left and said enough is
enough, and yes some did leave. However, a vast majority of the population of these areas has stayed
a vowed to rebuild. This is what I call resilience, to stay where everything you owned is gone, there s
no power, food shortage, gas shortage, little to no water to drink. You have to agree that this is
definitely resilience shown by these people, to overcome difficulties, to bounce back and recover, to
never give up or give in. When giving up would be the easy way out, these people have shown true
resilience staying and fighting for what you believe in. Another example of resilience, I just
experienced personally within my own classroom as an automotive instructor was, when one of my
student s mother recently passed away from stage four breast cancer, the student could have just shut
down and not been able to continue in class, but this student has shown great strength and character,
by continuing to be in class everyday by showing real strength and courage and resilience he has been

BlackBerry is a line of wireless handheld devices...
BlackBerry is a line of wireless handheld devices ¬designed and marketed by BlackBerry Limited,
formerly known as Research In Motion Limited (RIM). The first BlackBerry device, an email pager,
appeared on the market in 1999. (1) The two way pager is almost never used anymore, which is a
good demonstration of just how fast the technology has been developed. The pager was considered a
novel product since most of handheld devices up until then had only one way communication. The
original BlackBerry allowed the person who was receiving the message to respond to the sender by
using a keypad.

Current Schools Of Thought On Change Management
TASK 1 1.1 The analysis must include consideration of two current schools of thought on change
management and how they have contributed to organizational change Kurt Zadek Lewin (September
9, 1890 February 12, 1947) was a German American analyst, known as one of the advanced pioneers
of social , authoritative, and connected brain research An early model of progress created by Lewin
portrayed change as a three stage process. The primary stage he called unfreezing . It included
overcoming dormancy and disassembling the current personality set . It must be some piece of
surviving. Barrier systems must be circumventing. In the second stage the change happens. This is
ordinarily a time of perplexity and move. We are mindful that the old ways are constantly tested yet
we don t have a reasonable picture with reference to what we are supplanting them with yet. The third
and last stage he called solidifying . The new attitude is solidifying and one s solace level is coming
back to past levels ology The idea of progress administration is recognizable in many associations
today however how they oversee change (and how effective they are busy) changes tremendously
relying upon the nature of the business, the change and the individuals included. Associations that
handle change well seem to flourish, whilst those that don t may battle to survive. A key piece of this
relies on upon how far individuals inside the association comprehend and manage the change

Essay on The Cold Embrace
The Cold Embrace
The night in the city was going to be especially cold tonight. The sky had been overcast for almost the
entire day, leading to a brief although torrential downpour in the mid afternoon. The streets of the
Bronx outside the third story apartment window that Leonard Jefferson Bennings now looked out
were saturated from the July rainstorm and shone with a glimmer he remembered seeing from his
bedroom window in Massachusetts many years ago. He wondered if he would ever get to see his
childhood home again, and, if he did, would the world of his youth still exist even there? Like the final
beams of sunlight of the day, his hope was growing faint as he looked out on what had once been the

Some day, we ll make those Nazi bastards pay for every inch of land they have taken. She didn t seem
to be talking to Leonard as much as to herself; a brief vocalization of a burning obsession. Without
even acknowledging the presence of any other human being in the room, she walked out toward the
kitchen, probably either to get a drink of water, or to find Eric, the group leader. Leonard had always
wondered why it was that she was so consumed by hatred for the Germans. Admittedly, few people in
the world had any real reason to love the Nazis, especially with them burning their way across half of
New England and in control of or allied with most of rest of the world. Still, Christina s hatred seemed
much more personal than pure patriotism; even those in the group who had lost family in the invasion
didn t show the level of unbridled hate she did.
The only clue she had ever given as to the source of her rage was one she never spoke. On the
extremely rare occasions that she was seen without a full sleeved shirt (an oddity in mid July),
Leonard had seen scars, almost like whip marks across her back. She had never spoken of them, or
even acknowledged their existence, but Leonard had always suspected that perhaps she had been

My Dream Story
The story behind me is very long. Lots of stupid things have been done that are very very stupid. I
would say it all began 17 years ago in a hospital but, that s going to be a lot of work to type a paper. I
m going to start this wonderful life, last year school year. Near the end so all the fun of my life begins.
To present day where I continue to do the stuff that makes people mad but it is very fun for me. It was
an early morning in the month of May near the end of the day and I was in my Civics class. We were
working on our budget project and I was down in the library with a few other people. Believe it or not
I got bored really really quick. When I was walking back I was walking on paper all the way back up
to class because I was told do it so I did. When I got back to class my teacher gave me a very weird
look and didn t say a word. I kept asking, What I can t touch the ground. She didn t say a single word.
Just a few days later within the month of May, it was a cool warm night. Where everything was
perfect on how it was. No wind, a solid 78 degrees, all by a bonfire around 11 at night. We were sitting
there talking and out of nowhere I just got up and decided to walk across the fire for no reason.
Everyone looked at me very weirdly. All I asked was, What? My friend Owen just said, You re dumb
why would you even do that? All I could come up with was, Why not? He just looked away and
laughed. After walking over that fire over and over the bottom of the boots

Emotional Intelligence In Healthcare Leaders
Daniel Goleman an author and phycologist once cited that if our emotional abilities aren t in hand and
we do not possess self awareness as well as not able to manage our distressing emotions and if we can
t have empathy as well as effective relationships, then no matter how smart we are, we are not going
to get very far(Goleman, 1995).
Harnessing ones emotions is having emotional intelligence. Emotional Intelligence is the capability to
recognize and regulate one s own mental state and the emotions of others. For a leader to control their

The capacity to accurately distinguish your own feelings and those of others will end up being a
quality that can help in the success of an organization. Health leaders with emotional intelligence who

concentrating on results and make them adaptable to change.
Emotional Intelligence has affected leaders in making them actual change agents which is a key
characteristic and part of being an effective leader. People with a high degree of emotional intelligence

The Value Of Dress Code
Several times I have been dress coded for things that skinnier girls or what I would consider non curvy

Gender Roles In Lillie Devereux Blake s Fettered For Life
In nineteenth century America, there were strict gender roles and expectations that men and women
were expected to conform to. Men were seen as dominant to women; while men were able to work
and drink, women were expected to get married, follow orders from her husband, and live a life of
limited freedom and personal choice. We see examples of these roles throughout Lillie Devereux
Blake s novel, Fettered for Life, as we encounter different women in the text that are oppressed
through physical abuse and lack of agency. However, Frank Heywood, the woman, manages to
outsmart these rules by cross dressing to be a man. She s the only female in the novel to break free of
the slavery of womanhood, and in the process uses her newfound freedom to act as a voice for the
oppressed female population. Not only does Frank aid women and their oppression, but she also
proves that women can do the work of a man, but are denied opportunities because of their sex. Blake
uses Frank s character to demonstrate the ways in which gender roles are socially constructed, and
prove that it s possible to break through the implemented social rules. Our first encounter of Frank, in
the opening scene, leads us to notice something different about him. Reporting for the New York
Trumpeter in the courtroom during Laura s trial, Blake describes him as having dark ernest eyes, with
a strange expression lurking in their depths, an indefinable something hard to interpret...a look as of
perpetual unrest, of

Symbolism Of The Green Light In The Great Gatsby
#1(the green light) Beginning in chapter one, Nick provides us with a description of the scenes he
comes across as he moves his way into New York. There was one in particular though, that had great
importance. When walking on Daisy s dock Nick distinguishes nothing but a single green light that
was at the very end (21). Momentarily after he sees this light, Gatsby is not only seen for the first
time, but he suddenly vanishes , leaving the night to be unquiet and dark once more (21). This whole
occurrence symbolizes a few things. The green light means something to Gatsby. It represents his
hope and desires. Since it was minute and far away and Gatsby was [stretching] out his arms toward it
while trembling it shows how close he is to achieving his goal, which is Daisy, but he just misses it
(20 21). Speaking of the light again in chapter five, Nick enforces this idea of the green light

brand new colored rolls royce s that he uses as an omnibus to bring all these guests into his elite,

go visit Tom s girl who is Wilson s wife. Wilson isn t a wealthy man, he lives in the valley of ashes
and owns a car shop. When entering Wilson s shop, the only thing visible was a dust covered wreck of
a Ford , which enforces his social status on us. Also, after seeing Nick and Tom, a gleam of hope

coming to Wilson s shop makes Wilson feel as though there is hope for him to prosper like Tom

Linguistic Genius Of Babies Book Review
Patricia Kuhl s TED Talk lecture, The Linguistic Genius of Babies, is an overview of how infants as
young as six months old are capable of discriminating between the units of all languages equally, but
at ten months, infants tend to become better at distinguishing between units of their native language
and worse at those of a foreign language. This shows that there is a critical period not just for language
acquisition but also for the ability to acquire a second language. Therefore, parents who with for their
children to have a bilingual advantage should expose infants to a second language as soon as possible.
Noam Chomsky believed that humans are genetically designed with the capacity to learn language.
Humans have a system of common rules and properties, called universal grammar, which allows us to
learn any world language. It appears that Kuhl s research supports this theory. Kuhl exposed American
infants, who had only been previously exposed to English, to Mandarin during the critical period for
language acquisition. Babies exposed to both English and Mandarin showed equivalent statistics for
language discrimination. This exposure alters the Language Acquisitions Device (LAD) in the brain
and makes infants the citizens of the world, (Kuhl, 2010) Chomsky believed them to be, rather than
the culture bound listeners, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While humans are biologically designed to produce language, with exception of reasons of defect,
there is still a time limit during which infants must be exposed to language or risk developmental
delays. These delays are not just in the area of language acquisitions, but are related to other cognitive
functions as well, as we saw in the example of Justin, the boy who was raised as a dog by his
caregiver. Language acquisition is essential in the development of the ability to problem solve and to

Then he achieved building the first pyramid by placing large series of stone on top of each other.
Arnold states, From the earliest 3rd dynasty step pyramids in Egypt that they were built with
accreditation walls or layers . [3] The accreditation layers were sloped inside at an angle. It was
probably done to provide structural durability. Each part of the pyramid between two steps is referred
to as a mastaba. Each accreditation wall or layer shaped one step of the step pyramid and defined the
base of the next mastaba by reducing the height of the wall layer by layer. [3]
Intended to hold his mummified body, Pharaoh Djoser s Step Pyramid at Saqqara began as a
traditional, flat roofed mastaba. But by the end of his 19 year reign, in 2611 B.C.E, it had risen to six
stepped layers and stood 62 meters high. It was the largest building of its time. Extensive use of stone,
wood, reeds, or other materials made the tomb more durable than its mud brick structure. The Step
Pyramid complex was enclosed by a 10 meters wall and included courtyards, temples, and chapels
covering nearly 40 acres (16 hectares) the size of a large town in the third millennium B.C.
As in earlier mastaba tombs, the Step Pyramid s burial chambers were underground, hidden in a maze
of tunnels. However the tomb was stolen, and only left from the third king of Egypt s 3rd dynasty,
Djoser is his mummified left foot.

12 Angry Men
12 Angry Men revolves around opinions, perceptions/perspectives, and the logic and reason of the 12
jury members. This movie highlights the importance of critical thinking as well as its components. In
order to think critically, one must examine one s thinking process and the thinking process of others.
We can evaluate posing arguments by focusing our attention on various thinking approaches and
strategies. We actually have to think for ourselves, exemplified by Henry Fonda s character, to explore
and make sense of situations by using our thinking abilities. We must break down every component of
an argument and question the credibility of the source the information is coming from, put aside our
own emotions/judgments/majority influence, and listen to other s perspectives. To think critically, one
need to analyze the content through breaking down each component and analyzing each point through
an examination of what was presented.
The premise of 12 Angry Men was that a minority may affect a majority if rational thought/logic are
used to construct credible arguments based on sound reasons and inconsistencies in argument come be

Education And Its Influence On American Education
Graduate Education today shows traces of its European ancestors. The influences range from Greece,
Egypt, Italy, Spain, and many others. American education has evolved and manifested throughout the
thousands of years of its existence. We can directly trace the roots back to our European ancestors,
with the education that exists today in America.
Higher education s journey began in Greece in 387 BC by Plato. The only thing offered at this first
educational establishment was an advanced study in philosophy. From this basis, more higher
education facilities began to be erected, from 387 BC to the 17th century .The ancestors of graduate
education were constructed throughout Palestine, Babylonia, Indian, China and Korea. Most systems
either taught religious aspects or philosophy. Like today, many higher education schools are still
religious based, even though they offer numerous amounts of studies, they are still based around
religion studies and incorporate it into every line of study at the university.
Higher education in America today offers many concentrations of study, but each university has a
specific concentration subject that they are known for, such as, liberal arts, education, medical,
engineering, etc. This influence on education did not begin until Medieval times. Medieval
universities had main areas of study at each facility, some offered liberal studies, while others were
focused on music, astronomy, geometry and mathematics. Professional studies included law,

The organizational structure of a Subway restaurant has a clear hierarchy and it is signed by explicit
responsibility and activity allocation.
The highest position of the employee chain in the Subway restaurant is taken by the general manager.
He is directly responsible for the governance of the entire restaurant operation. The manager should

  • 2. Funeral Oration And Pericles Speech Cyril Klutse 4th October,2017 7am Class While everyone has their own opinion, and is more than entitled to share it, other s beliefs and thoughts influence most people. Politics and opinions of leaders on the way in which a country must govern are often easy portals to access an impressionable mind. Throughout history, those with opposing viewpoints on democracy have often spoke up and shared their opinions with the world in hopes of being heard. Aristotle, Pericles and Xenophon have each taken a turn in doing so, and made their feelings obvious to the people. All opinions were very different; Aristotle s being more of an open minded approach towards democracy (not completely dismissing the idea of it), Pericles being in total agreement with it, and Xenophon being sarcastic and exceptionally opposed. In Pericles Funeral Oration , he speaks strongly in favor of a democratic nation and talks about how and why that s important. He specifically mentions that personal freedoms are allowed because of their democratic way of life, but also conveys the point that while the people were free to live for themselves, they chose to live for one another as well, and all hoped to better the city as a positively functioning society. Throughout the address he praises Athenians, their military, and explains to the people how their system of government was to responsible for their success and that it set them apart from other nations. His belief in Democracy was understandable and holds in a similar way today by many people. But while democracy does help immensely with the formation of a nation, Pericles did not discuss that none of the positive attributes stemming from democracy would be possible without the positive actions of his people, with or without it. He didn t necessarily give credit where credit was due, however, he did seem to be on the right track with what would hopefully grow to be the best form of government and for the right reasons; people choosing to live for each other in a positive way is just as important (if not more) than people choosing to live rightly for themselves. Aristotle s view on democracy is much different from Pericles in that while Pericles preached of how each man was both a citizen ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Examples Of Microtransactions So what exactly are microtransactions? Microtransactions can be defined as the exchange of real money for virtual goods. It is a system where users can purchase virtual goods via micropayments. hence the term microtransaction ( Microtransaction 2017.) This type of business model is common in free to play games and is typically used to speed up progression within the game itself. However, some developers have decided to incorporate microtransactions despite customers already paying the full price for the game. While this is not necessarily an issue if the goods are cosmetic and have no effect on the core gameplay, it is an issue if it provides users who pay for offered goods with an unfair advantage over free to play players. One might ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In my opinion, this was a blatant money grab by EA and in no way ethical because they were not acting in the interest of their clients (the users) and utilizing us as a means to an end. They could have made the same game sans the microtransactions and have made a reasonable profit from the cost of the base game itself, but instead chose to make a greedy decision to increase profit margins for what would have been a successful game regardless. Had I been the one to make the decision, I would have lowered the time sink required to unlock heroes by a substantial amount, and limited the microtransactions to cosmetic items. That way, the needs of the customers would have been satisfied, but the company would have still made more profit than it normally would. In summary, the decision was not ethical because they acted against the interest of the customers and instead decided to further their own profits. To understand why microtransactions have become so prevalent one has to understand the history of them first. Microtransactions date as far back as early 2005 with the release of the Xbox Live Marketplace. Back then, players could purchase virtual goods such ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Minimum Wage Impact The Impact of Minimum Wage on the Economy In the 20th century, was the first time that the United States created the minimum wage and would influence world wide economies. Since then, this economic system has been a controversial topic all over the world between the workers and employers. Historically, we can analyze the positive and negative effects of raising the minimum wage. The ones who not only made them into food and eat them, turned into speech and chant them or stepped into them but who also climb and live from the mountains; the Sherpa. The ones who burn juniper as an offering to the mountains not only before the climbing but as long as anyone remains up there. Beyond worship, this is an exercise on caring about others. • 7. Multiple Signs Of Infection, Retinal Vascular Sheathing... Our patient presented with multiple signs of infection, which can t initially be pinpointed to one disease alone. The three important signs to initially address and understand the science behind are perivasculitis, retinal vascular sheathing and retinal hemorrhages. All three medical definitions appear straightforward and all very similar, but the combination of the three leads to a serious diagnosis and urgency for this patient. Perivasculitis is an inflammation of a sheath surrounding the tissue 1. In class we discussed the differences between perivasculitis and periflabitis. Perivasculitis should be white because of the inflammation and the white blood cells then spilling out. The Prefix peri means around, or on the outside of the tissue. Retinal vascular sheathing is sheathing or cuffing of blood vessels and vitreous cells . The swelling or cuffing of blood vessels in the retinal layer is a serious condition and is often associated with vasculitis. Finally, a retinal hemorrhage is abnormal bleeding of the vessels in the retina 2. Retinal hemorrhages can be caused for a variety of reasons such as injuries like forceful blows or accidents and falls, as well as adverse health conditions. We know that the loss of vision can be largely attributed to the excess debris that is currently located in the eye, the debris being blood that is leaking out. The Ideal American Family Analysis As stated in an article by Kimi Kennedy entitled Television: The Ideal American Family, most American families portrayed on television in the late 40s and early 50s consisted of a husband, wife and 2.5 kids (Kennedy). In Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman, the Loman family seems to perfectly fit the mold of a family living the American dream; however, the actions of the family show that everything is not what it seems. Although the Lomans appear to be the ideal family of the time, the way in which the family treats each other directly contrast with other fictional families of the time. The family s treatment of Happy exemplifies the lack of attention given to some children within American families. Throughout the play, Happy often takes a back seat to Biff when it comes to getting his parents attention. In Act I on pages 1851 1853 Happy says multiple times, I m ... It is imaginably chilling and disturbing. The book is based upon a true story of a frightening man who was hung for murdering two women and three children. One of the main characters portrayed as the murderer, plays the role of Harry Powell, who was just released from prison, but describes himself as a man of God, and a preacher of the word. She was very naive, and didn t understand what was happening; she lived in her own imaginary world. Although, John and Pearl play extremely important roles in the novel, there are other characters that bring together the story and are important to the overall theme. Harry Powell, the preacher, is disturbing. He was a mass murderer who killed women for money. His psychotic mind led him to believe that God was telling him to commit the crimes. He was conniving and immoral. He tricked people into believing that he was a righteous man, who obeyed by the laws of the bible. Willa, John and Pearls mother, was gullible and influenced easily. She was very trusting of Harry Powell s word, and refused to believe anyone else but him. She wanted nothing but to impress him. She felt that he would be a great father figure to the children. Her trust in Harry Powell leads her to her death. The conceptual framework released by the Financial Accounting Standards Board indicates that a company prepares financial statements with the intention of assisting investors assess the company s future cash flow prospects (Financial Accounting Standards Board, 2010). However, the process used by a company in assessing its cash flows is reliant on the use of estimates and conjecture. These values are arrived ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It has also been argued that the increased use of complex financial derivatives contributed to the confusion regarding the use of fair value accounting, especially among those companies that lacked deep insight into the operations of the financial world (Laux Leuz, 2010). Even when there was adequate knowledge on how these derivatives were to be accounted for, there are arguments that companies failed to interpret the guidelines as would have been expected. 1.2 Statement of the problem Generally, there are two approaches in determining the value of a company s assets and liabilities (Laux Leux, 2009). One, the company can use the historical cost approach. Under this method, the purchase cost is used as the basis of determining other factors such as the asset s loss of value that occurs over time. Therefore, a building acquired five decades ago would be presented in the financial statements either at the cost at which it was built or the cost of land plus construction. Depreciation is then deducted from this cost over its lifetime. The historical cost method has some obvious drawbacks. The historical cost method disregards the occurrence of events that have the impact of reducing the asset s value (Hitz, 2007). A dramatic text can often represent eras, time periods or a social or political message that can be taken in reference to that era or time. Not to say that non text based performances do not, but somehow non text based performances can seem a little more lenient when it comes to the recreation of an event. Often with classic work, such as that of Shakespeare or Ibsen, it is a sensitive area when modernising such texts or even conveying them in a non westernised setting as contextual elements of the original work can be lost. Similarly there are linguistic barriers with such texts as different translations can blur the effect of the original dialogue. Yet, if there is no translation at all then there is an obvious language barrier for those reading or viewing a performance. Simon During ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In surgical settings, pain is an unavoidable consequence but one that requires handling with great care as the unnecessary suffering of patient is legally and morally inappropriate. While pain is typically a physical response to an external stimulus, such as a surgical procedure or the destructive extent of disease, the recognition of pain occurs on an individual level. The brain is the ultimate arbiter of what is painful and what is not. Due to this deeply personal context of pain, there are many factors at play in its appearance. Some factor relate to environmental concerns while others derive from societal and cultural impacts (Belfer, 2013). While pain is often an unwanted characteristic of care, it is also a strong diagnostic guideline. Physicians can rapidly detect the extent of illness and injury by following a patients expression of pain. Because of the importance of understanding pain, it is important that nurses be acutely aware of all of the personal and cultural influences that can affect a patient s understanding and expression of pain. Current Schools Of Thought On Change Management TASK 1 1.1 The analysis must include consideration of two current schools of thought on change management and how they have contributed to organizational change Kurt Zadek Lewin (September 9, 1890 February 12, 1947) was a German American analyst, known as one of the advanced pioneers of social , authoritative, and connected brain research An early model of progress created by Lewin portrayed change as a three stage process. The primary stage he called unfreezing . It included overcoming dormancy and disassembling the current personality set . It must be some piece of surviving. Barrier systems must be circumventing. In the second stage the change happens. This is ordinarily a time of perplexity and move. We are mindful that the old ways are constantly tested yet we don t have a reasonable picture with reference to what we are supplanting them with yet. The third and last stage he called solidifying . I would say it all began 17 years ago in a hospital but, that s going to be a lot of work to type a paper. I m going to start this wonderful life, last year school year. Near the end so all the fun of my life begins. To present day where I continue to do the stuff that makes people mad but it is very fun for me. It was an early morning in the month of May near the end of the day and I was in my Civics class. We were working on our budget project and I was down in the library with a few other people. Believe it or not I got bored really really quick. When I was walking back I was walking on paper all the way back up to class because I was told do it so I did. When I got back to class my teacher gave me a very weird look and didn t say a word. I kept asking, What I can t touch the ground. She didn t say a single word. Just a few days later within the month of May, it was a cool warm night. Where everything was perfect on how it was. No wind, a solid 78 degrees, all by a bonfire around 11 at night. We were sitting there talking and out of nowhere I just got up and decided to walk across the fire for no reason. Everyone looked at me very weirdly. All I asked was, What? My friend Owen just said, You re dumb why would you even do that? All I could come up with was, Why not? He just looked away and laughed. • 29. Gender Roles In Lillie Devereux Blake s Fettered For Life In nineteenth century America, there were strict gender roles and expectations that men and women were expected to conform to. Men were seen as dominant to women; while men were able to work and drink, women were expected to get married, follow orders from her husband, and live a life of limited freedom and personal choice. We see examples of these roles throughout Lillie Devereux Blake s novel, Fettered for Life, as we encounter different women in the text that are oppressed through physical abuse and lack of agency. However, Frank Heywood, the woman, manages to outsmart these rules by cross dressing to be a man. She s the only female in the novel to break free of the slavery of womanhood, and in the process uses her newfound freedom to act as a voice for the oppressed female population. Not only does Frank aid women and their oppression, but she also proves that women can do the work of a man, but are denied opportunities because of their sex. Blake uses Frank s character to demonstrate the ways in which gender roles are socially constructed, and prove that it s possible to break through the implemented social rules. Our first encounter of Frank, in the opening scene, leads us to notice something different about him. Reporting for the New York Trumpeter in the courtroom during Laura s trial, Blake describes him as having dark ernest eyes, with a strange expression lurking in their depths, an indefinable something hard to interpret...a look as of perpetual unrest, of ... Symbolism Of The Green Light In The Great Gatsby #1(the green light) Beginning in chapter one, Nick provides us with a description of the scenes he comes across as he moves his way into New York. There was one in particular though, that had great importance. When walking on Daisy s dock Nick distinguishes nothing but a single green light that was at the very end (21). Momentarily after he sees this light, Gatsby is not only seen for the first time, but he suddenly vanishes , leaving the night to be unquiet and dark once more (21). This whole occurrence symbolizes a few things. The green light means something to Gatsby. It represents his hope and desires. Since it was minute and far away and Gatsby was [stretching] out his arms toward it while trembling it shows how close he is to achieving his goal, which is Daisy, but he just misses it (20 21). • 31. Linguistic Genius Of Babies Book Review Patricia Kuhl s TED Talk lecture, The Linguistic Genius of Babies, is an overview of how infants as young as six months old are capable of discriminating between the units of all languages equally, but at ten months, infants tend to become better at distinguishing between units of their native language and worse at those of a foreign language. This shows that there is a critical period not just for language acquisition but also for the ability to acquire a second language. Therefore, parents who with for their children to have a bilingual advantage should expose infants to a second language as soon as possible. Noam Chomsky believed that humans are genetically designed with the capacity to learn language. Humans have a system of common rules and properties, called universal grammar, which allows us to learn any world language. It appears that Kuhl s research supports this theory. Kuhl exposed American infants, who had only been previously exposed to English, to Mandarin during the critical period for language acquisition. Babies exposed to both English and Mandarin showed equivalent statistics for language discrimination. This exposure alters the Language Acquisitions Device (LAD) in the brain and makes infants the citizens of the world, (Kuhl, 2010) Chomsky believed them to be, rather than the culture bound listeners, ... Then he achieved building the first pyramid by placing large series of stone on top of each other. Arnold states, From the earliest 3rd dynasty step pyramids in Egypt that they were built with accreditation walls or layers . [3] The accreditation layers were sloped inside at an angle. It was probably done to provide structural durability. Each part of the pyramid between two steps is referred to as a mastaba. Each accreditation wall or layer shaped one step of the step pyramid and defined the base of the next mastaba by reducing the height of the wall layer by layer. [3] Intended to hold his mummified body, Pharaoh Djoser s Step Pyramid at Saqqara began as a traditional, flat roofed mastaba. But by the end of his 19 year reign, in 2611 B.C.E, it had risen to six stepped layers and stood 62 meters high. It was the largest building of its time. Extensive use of stone, wood, reeds, or other materials made the tomb more durable than its mud brick structure. The Step Pyramid complex was enclosed by a 10 meters wall and included courtyards, temples, and chapels covering nearly 40 acres (16 hectares) the size of a large town in the third millennium B.C. As in earlier mastaba tombs, the Step Pyramid s burial chambers were underground, hidden in a maze of tunnels. However the tomb was stolen, and only left from the third king of Egypt s 3rd dynasty, Djoser is his mummified left foot. The Step ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This movie highlights the importance of critical thinking as well as its components. In order to think critically, one must examine one s thinking process and the thinking process of others. We can evaluate posing arguments by focusing our attention on various thinking approaches and strategies. We actually have to think for ourselves, exemplified by Henry Fonda s character, to explore and make sense of situations by using our thinking abilities. American education has evolved and manifested throughout the thousands of years of its existence. We can directly trace the roots back to our European ancestors, with the education that exists today in America. Higher education s journey began in Greece in 387 BC by Plato. From this basis, more higher education facilities began to be erected, from 387 BC to the 17th century .The ancestors of graduate education were constructed throughout Palestine, Babylonia, Indian, China and Korea. Most systems either taught religious aspects or philosophy. Like today, many higher education schools are still religious based, even though they offer numerous amounts of studies, they are still based around religion studies and incorporate it into every line of study at the university. Higher education in America today offers many concentrations of study, but each university has a specific concentration subject that they are known for, such as, liberal arts, education, medical, engineering, etc. This influence on education did not begin until Medieval times.
