Symbolism In Lunchbox
On a daily basis, people are affected by infrastructures. When thinking about infrastructure, a
physical operation such as freeways and transportation comes to mind; however, infrastructures are
not limited to such restrictions. An infrastructure is a system that combines its physical form with
symbolism. Infrastructures demonstrate the relationship from the past and future, affect people s
lives, and have a deeper meaning underneath the physical surface. This can be better understood
from the reading InfrastructureToolbox and noticed in the film Lunchbox.
One s culture is highly influenced by the past. It creates and explains their tradition while
ultimately determining what the future holds. For instance, food plays a crucial role in culture
especially for the people of Bombay/Mumbai; which is where the film Lunchbox takes placed.
The film focuses on a delivering system that acts as an infrastructure. This system is made up of
people delivering home cooked meals and meals from restaurants at the consumer s job for their
lunch. One major reason why the people of Mumbai utilizes this system is to maintain their
tradition of having warm home cooked meals despite them being at work. This displays the
importance of family to them. The food symbolizes the feeling of being connected and together
despite the distance. These lunchboxes are able to keep the tradition of having a hot home cooked
meal alive. Because of the old tradition, this new concept of delivering lunch boxes

Modern Day, The Green Living Movement
In today s modern day, the green living movement intersects local state and federal politics. it
impacts business practices, art and the media, education and health in the united states (Gordon).
The green living movement s purpose is to control pollution or protect plant and animal diversity.
In the 1960 s until the present, there has been a lot of controversy. Fallout from testing air pollution
from millions of factories, cars belching chemicals into the atmosphere, and deliberate destruction
of pristine rivers and lakes (such as Ohio s Cuyahoga River, that famously caught fire). These
disasters, including the disappearance of farmland and forests under suburban development, were a
concern to many citizens. These concerns are still... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

As time went on more environmental issue emerged, environmentalist advocated and protested the
green living movement so much that it received public recognition on the political stage. 1969
massive oil spill in Santa Barbara, California raised a lot of attention and then governor Gaylord
Nelson was determined to do something about it. He could infuse that energy with an emerging
public consciousness about air and water pollution, would force environmental protection onto the
national political agenda. Senator Nelson announced the idea for a national teach in on the
environment to the national media (Earth Day). It became highly publicized in this time period.
The Green Living Movement went from being a major concern to citizens to being campaigned
by senators and presidents. The movement was so important, more awareness was in the works
and innovative symbols began to be created. The ecology symbol, [was] created in 1969 by Ron
Cobb, a political cartoonist and artist. His symbol combined the letters E and O, the initials of
environment and organism, with the idea of an ellipse and a circle (Patton) . This symbol caught
the attention of many, as it brought a visual effect to go with the name of the movement. The

The West Memphis Case Analysis
The West Memphis case remains a mystery to this day. Even after the closing of the it, 6 years
ago, people still question who murdered the three children. After investigation ended Damien
Echols one of the man wrongly accused of killing the kids wrote the novel Life After Death
which explained his side of the story. It peeked the interest of the public as it was one of the first
pieces to have been in the view of the alleged murderers. The documentary West of Memphis
became famous as it showed why the West Memphis Three were not the criminals. The writing
itself was engaging due to its switching between the author s past and period in prison and his
writings while in prison. The most affecting and beautifully written passages were ones... Show

In the novel Echols also reprints his prison writings. This engages the audience as they are able
to see how he felt in the moment and not through his overlook of prison. They can better
understand what was happening because the passages are not written as a past memory, but as
his emotions in that minute. This allows no room for incorrect feelings as it is impossible to
forget what happens at that instant. The readers are truly capable of comprehending his
sentiments. For example, I have lost all faith, lost all belief. I teeter on the edge of hopelessness.
Everything is a fight, and I m so tired. I m so tired of struggling; I want to scream until I m
gargling my own blood (305). At this moment the people reading the book really feel for Echols
and this draws their attention. One of Echols most affecting and beautifully written passages in
the novel is his description of the emotional torture the prison does to him. The author s pain can
be clearly envisioned through the passage. It creates a feeling of disgust and hatred towards the
guards and at the same time the reader feels the need to cry for the author as he suffers through
the pain and torture. He uses sentences like, Soon you walk with your shoulders slumped and your
head down, like a beast that s used to being kicked... and also, ...the prison staff does not look at
you as human... (65). The

Black Athletes Graduation Rates Weak
Major collegiate athletics programs are able to generate millions of dollars for their institutions, but
are not able to show any evidence of successfully graduating their black male athletes that contribute
to their success in generating those millions of dollars. These universities in turn, are failing these
student athletes whom were promised that they would nurture them intellectually as well as
athletically. A four year report published by the Universityof Pennsylvania s Graduate School of

The journal cites the Center for the Study of Athletics that showed that, 95 percent of basketball
and football players indicated that earning a college degree was important to them. Unfortunately,
one third of these same student athletes earned a GPA of less than 2.0, which severely limits the
chances of earning a college degree (Gatson Gayles). Not only is this one third of students at risk
of not earning a college degree, but the entire group as a whole might not even be successful

Preparing To Lead To Schema
Leadership is perceived and defined in many ways, but in the end, every concept of leadership is
brought back on the focus of people. Followers reaction towards a leader decides the effectiveness
of his or her specific style of governance. Because of the importance of the subordinate, leaders must
treat everyone they manage with dignity and respect. To achieve this feat, the leader must
understand the meaning of cultureand other aspects which stem from it and social perceptions and
biases which lead to schema and ultimately unjust stereotypes. In the leadership textbook Preparing
to Lead: Introduction to Leadership and Development written by LCDR Litchford, USN and LT

We see the world through our own lens crafted and shaped by our culture. By these lens we
conduct a process called attribution which is the rationalization of a person s traits, motives,
abilities and situational pressures. These rationalizations are called schema. Schema are
products of the human s natural process of categorizing people as groups instead of individual
entities. There are many types of schema, but the most commonly known and used schema is the
group schema or a stereotype. An example of a stereotype is that all football players are dumb.
Even though I once was a football player, I found myself believing this stereotype during a lab. I
had a question on the procedure of the lab and as I was about to ask the classmate next to me, I
realized he was a football player and I did not ask him for a while because I thought he was even
more confused than I was. Although this thought went through my mind, I eventually forced
myself to ask him, and he knew exactly what was going on in lab. I was very angry at myself for
putting this man in a stereotype and not taking the time to actually know the football player.
Stereotypes in America are usually used towards social, racial, religious, and ethnic groups. Other
types of schema are personal schema which are assumptions made from knowing one attribute of
a person, self schemas which are thinking yourself as fat, so you may diet too much or become
bulimic and become anorexic, and event schemas which are schemas created from what people
expect to happen during a simple event. Schema can be dangerous especially towards people
because when assumptions are made, the leader feels no need to actually get to know the
individual. This can lead to

Finding The Right Words Of The Ancient Chinese...
Finding the Right Words
After a 40 year career in which the need to write has always featured prominently, I still find the
prospect of committing pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard, a daunting experience. Don t get me
wrong, I don t dislike writing. On the contrary, I derive a great sense of satisfaction from
completing any writing task or assignment. Indeed, a lifetime of writing leads me to believe that
writing well and enjoying the experience, like most worthwhile endeavors, requires preparation,
hard work, and an unyielding commitment and desire to succeed. Furthermore, I have come to
realize that in the words of the ancient Chinese philosopher, Lao Tzu, A journey of a thousand
miles must begin with a single step. At the outset, I feel that every writing project is like a
thousand mile journey, and I know I ll get there in the end if only I have the courage take that first,
single step if only I can find the right words.
My earliest recollection of writing is at around six or seven years old, meticulously copying
longhand letters and words in my elementary school copybook. The perfectly formed characters,
uniformly spaced at the top of each page, appealed to my sense of order encouraging me to
replicate the cursive lettering as faithfully as I could on the printed lines below. By the time I
reached high school, I had mastered the art of legible, almost calligraphic script. The mechanics
were easy, creating interesting and articulate content, not so much.

Structure Of The Two Ketone Groups
Prednisolone
1.Structure
The two ketone groups will be sp2 hybridised and so are the carbon to carbon (C to C) double
bonds. The carbon atoms that are part of alkanes and the alcohol groups will be sp3 hybridised.
There isn t any resonance in the molecule.
2.Functional Groups
There are 3 different functional groups, excluding the alkane and cycloalkanes. There are two
aliphatic ketones and three aliphatic alcohols along with a cyclohexadiene, where one of the
ketones is found. The alcohols are secondary, tertiary and primary as you go from left to right of
the molecule.
3.Conformation of prednisolone 4.Stereochemistry in prednisolone
Prednisolone has 7 chiral centres, which would give rise to 128 possible stereoisomers. There are
also two C to C double bonds, however because they are part of a ring, they wouldn t give rise to
any geometrical isomers.
5.Acidic or basic functional groups in the drug
Prednisolone is a neutral molecule. Alcohol groups are mildly acidic and could theoretically act as
an acid at a high pH, but that would happen very rarely, certainly not at physiological pH. There
are no basic groups in Prednisolone.
6.Ionisation state of the drug in the stomach (pH of 2) and blood (pH of 7.4)
Prednisolone would remain in this neutral state both at pH 2 and at pH 7.4. This is because its
strongest acid pKa is 12.59 (the tertiary alcohol; the primary and the secondary alcohols have pKa
values of 13.87 and 14.93 respectively). Hence, the hydroxyl

Strategies for Resolving Conflict
Conflict is inevitable; even though some conflict can be good most of the time other times it
can be harmful to a team. By definition conflict is any situation in which incompatible goals,
cognitions, or emotions within or between individuals or groups that lead to opposition or
antagonistic interactions. Conflict can be damaging but with the right skills and the ability to
resolve it, it can be beneficial to the team (Bowes, 2008). Many people try to avoid conflict at all
costs, but avoiding conflict will not make it go away. Some people see shades of gray or
different perspectives of issues more easily and readily than others. Those who see issues as black
or white and who do not see gray tones, often find it difficult to understand... Show more content on

This conflict resolution strategy respects individual differences. When using this method a few
simple rules are followed. Make sure that good relationships are the first priority: Treat others
with respect, speak calmly and try to be courteous to the other members of the team. Keep
people and problems separate: By keeping the problem separate from the person and realizing
that the person isn t just being difficult the problem can be debated without causing damage to
the team. Pay attention to the interests that are being presented: Listening to the team will help
with the understanding of where each person is coming from. Listen first; talk second: To solve
the problem effectively each person needs to listen to the information being presented by each
team member and understand where they are coming from before defending their own position.
Set out the Facts : Establish an objective and make sure everyone agrees on what is set forth.
Explore options together: Be open to other ideas a person will never know what idea is going to
present itself and it just may work for the team. If a team follows these simple rules they can often
keep discussions positive and constructive. This helps a team stay on task and prevent destructive
conflict that can spiral out of control and destroy a team. If conflict does occur always remember
to take a positive approach to resolving the conflict. As long as the discussions stay courteous and
are done in a non confrontational

college volleyball, really wanted to go to the national tournament, practiced way more than the
other kids in the club, worked harder, and played better than everyone, but after tryouts, was
placed on the red team all because she was short.. She was so devastated and hurt that she almost

when making his claim, also giving the reader a false sense of power and control. He makes
everyone think that as long as they work hard and practice for 10,000 hours, they will become
experts, but as we all know, it is impossible to practice getting tall for 10,000 hours, because it
just is not possible. And because Gladwell failed to mention these unchangeable roadblocks,
people like Skyler, who gave everything 110%, paid the price. Overall, I disagree with Malcolm
Gladwell s 10,000 hour rule, but think that it could be corrected so that it is more accurate.

The Game Of Basketball And The Engine
The game of basketball and the engine have been around for a long time. The game of basketball
was invented in December 1891 and the engine was invented in 1680. Although they seem
completely different they are not. Basketball and the engine are similar regarding their equipment
and supplies needed, the procedures that take place, and the way they enhance one s life. The
game of basketball was intended to condition young athletes. It started as a basic game, and as the
years progressed, officials added rules that made the game how it is today. The game is played
with no more than five playersfrom each team at a time. This allows you to have team mates but
not have too many people playing at one time. The engine was invented to make life and
transportation easier. Over the years engines have become more complex and powerful which
allows for more speed and bettervehicles.
Basketball may seem like a complicated sport but it is not unless one makes it complicated. In
the game of basketball there is the basket which has a back board made of a sturdy glass and a net
made from special rope. Then there is the basketball which is made of rubber with a leather cover
for grip. The players wear shorts and a jersey with a number and sometimes the last name of the

and that is recognition and hoping to install recall into the buyers memory, showing off the new

the television campaign would be the use of catalogues. The catalogues, similar to the television
campaign will help the readers of the magazine (the general public, with no specific audience)

Revolution Without Social Change
A Revolution Without Social Media In Small Change: Why the Revolution Will Not Be
Tweeted, Malcolm Gladwell argues that social change like the change that was brought about
by the Civil Rights Movement from the 1960 s cannot be achieved through social media.
Gladwell reasoning about social change not being achieved through social media is because the
way on how there is not a centralized leadership structure, the fact that everyone has an equal say
and how activist was once defined by their causes, now they are defined by their tools, has a
meaning on why social change cannot be achieved because of social media. Neither strong nor
weak ties, would bring a social change, the more ties there, increased the number of high risk
activism, the only component of an established centralized leadership can fluctuate to create a
social change. Gladwell argues that real life activism is the result of strong ties among the persons
involved, enabling them to come together and be high risk activism towards social change. But
depending on critical friends the more friends there was, the better to join the protest against the
cause to spread sit ins through the South without the use of social media. Gladwell states these

The Electoral And Electoral College
Query 1)
The Electoral College was created in the beginning to make a buffer between the selection of a
President and the population. It was also created so that the smaller states received extra power
as to not be overpowered by the larger states. Currently, the Electoral College consists of 538
electors. The number of members in the House of Representatives and Senate decides the numbers
of votes that a state receives. The District of Columbia however has three electors and has been
looked at like a state for the Electoral College under the 23rd Amendment ( U.S. Electoral College
). This system was first created by the founding fathers through fear that a person could
manipulate the public in order to come to power. Therefore, a candidate running for presidency
could win the run even if they do not win the popular vote. However, I think that the Electoral
College is out of date and should be changed. This is because we, as a whole, are not fairly
represented because we are only represented as a state, and not as each individual. Throughout our
course of history, there have been multiple times where a candidate had received popular vote but
not the electoral votes necessary. This was shown in the 2000 election where President George
Bush and Al Gore were both candidates in this election run. Although Al Gore could have been able
to win the presidency because he had more popular votes, the electoral votes for President Bush
were higher, enabling him to win the presidency.

Greek Tragedy and Modern Drama
Greek Tragedy Modern Drama
Tragedy as a form works differently than modern drama when compared to the ancient Greeks.
When it comes to modern drama, the main character is usually an ordinary person, someone who
is middle class. Where as with Greek tragedy, the main character is someone important and noble,
such as a king or queen. Modern drama revolves around everyday problems such as social,
economical, or personal conflicts. Greek Tragedies seem to be very linear. It s mostly about the
hero making a bad decision from the beginning of the play, which leads to his or her downfall in
the end. Although, they were of higher ranking, ancient Greek s beliefs made the main character
powerless to avoid their fate, which was controlled by the gods. As far as conventions go, Greek
Tragedies are very unified. The tragedy of the royal protagonist will go through only one time span,
a day or less, one setting, and one story. In a modern tragedy, however, the ordinary protagonist s
story goes through multiple realistic settings and a realistic time line. Also, the story would contain
multiple plots, which may contain flashbacks.
Taking a look at the elements of a Greek tragedy, a play called Oedipusthe King is a good
example. The story starts off with the city of Thebes being under a plague due to the murder of its
former king, Laius. Creon was sent by Oedipus to find a solution from the oracle, which was to
find the murderer who is within the city to get rid of the

Related Injuries In Hockey Essay
Hockey Related Injuries
Hockey is a demanding sport that not only requires teamwork but also speed and power. As a
result of this many players are at risk for severe injuries during their playing career. Although many
of the injuries happen on accident most of them can be avoided. The chance of obtaining an injury
in hockey is heightened because it is a physical contact sport. There s checking and tripping and
fights that break out. The players are also on a slippery surface that s equivalent to falling on
cement. With all of this in mind there is no doubt that a hockey player will experience some sort of
injury during their time playing. Some of the most common hockey related injuries are concussion,
back injuries, and knee injuries.
To begin with the chance of getting injured during a hockey game is dependent on a multitude of
things. The players position is an important thing when it comes to injury, some players
experience more physical contact than others. The protective equipment is also a must have. The
gloves are so large because they have to protect the hands from the cold and from being hit with
the hockey stick. Without gloves it would be very easy to break fingers. The amount of violent

Exercising Process
Exercising requires the skeletal muscles to have chemical energy from ATP in order to contract
and relax. Chemical energy is present in the macromolecules of the foods people consume
everyday such as protein, carbohydrate, and fat. Cells metabolized these molecules to produce
energy that is used to form ATP. The demand for ATP increases as people exercise but skeletal
muscle fibers store very little ATP therefore, in order to continue exercising, ATP must quickly be
replenished continuously. Most of the ATP generated is during oxidative phosphorylation while
some is also produced during glycolysis. Glycolysis is an anaerobic process that metabolizes glucose
to pyruvic acid. Pyruvic acid is converted to acetyl CoA in the presence of oxygen, which then
enters the citric acid cycle. During the citric acid cycle, ATP is formed from phosphorylation
while hydrogen is oxidized to water which constitutes most of the ATP generated. Pyruvic acid is
converted to lactic acid if not enough oxygen is supplied to the active muscle and lactic acidosis
occurs which increases the acidity of the blood. Lactate from the blood is removed and converted
back to pyruvate by muscle fibers, which is then oxidatively metabolized to generate and replenish
ATP at the end of intense exercise... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This process is accelerated by an increase in sympathetic stimulation of adipose tissue during
exercise. Maintaining a sufficient production of ATP during moderate to heavy dynamic exercise
is required and dependent upon the breakdown of glycogen as well. Exhaustion occurs when
glycogen stored in the muscles are depleted. Therefore, the capacity for sustained work at
moderate to heavy intensities depends on the amount of stored glycogen, which varies from person
to person and can be altered by prior activity and diet (Pflanzer

Cultural Values And The Dominant Culture
When looking to understand one s culture in comparison to the dominant culture it is important to
take into consideration a variety of cultural values. In comparing myself to the dominant culture in
the United States I have found both similarities as well as differences between my worldviews and
the majority worldview. In order to fully assess how I have come to acquire my worldviews it is
important to look into contextual and circumstantial factors that have shaped me as an individual.
American culture values individualism where putting yourself first is seen as the norm. In
comparison, Hispanic cultures value the family, or a group dynamic, rather than each person as an
individual entity (Kirst Ashman, 2013, p. 457). I am close with my family and value the family
dynamic we have as a group; however, I believe that I must first take care of myself in order to be
able to help out others. In addition, competition is valued by dominant American culture. In
America winning is everything (Scott, 2015). Although I value individualism, I am the least
competitive person I know. I believe that this stems from placing value on myself for myself (and
well being) rather than for others or in comparison to others. When focusing on the individual it is
easy to place high importance upon one s status within society. American culture places high value
upon credentials, titles, roles, and material possessions that create each person s power status. It
would be absurd for me to say that my

Slavery In Colonial America
By the 1630s, about 1.5 million pounds of tobacco was hauled out of Chesapeake Bay (and

it blew up the tobacco economy.Sir William Berkeley became governor of Virginia in 1642. He
didn t like that most of his people were poor, unhappy, and armed, but he didn t help them out of

To have enough cheap labor and maintain the tobacco economy, there were indentured servants.
There were about 100,000 of them by 1700. The servants exchanged working for transatlantic

Essay on The Theme of Knowledge in Gilgamesh and Genesis
Ancient world literature and early civilization stories are mostly centered on human s relationship
with higher beings. Ancient civilizations were extremely religious, holding the belief that their

of biblical times as well as those of the epic era. However, their stories have some differences

The divine blesses the righteous and punishes the evil man to remind their limitation and worship to

In the Book of Genesis, the idea of knowledge emerges throughout punishment. This theme is most
apparent when Adam and Eve deceive God by eating from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and
Evil. When they do this, they are immediately given the ability to discern between right and
wrong. The Old Testament states, The woman saw that the tree was good for food, pleasing to
the eyes, and desirable for gaining knowledge (Genesis 3:6). Promptly Adam and Eve gain
knowledge and realize their nakedness as punishment from God. Likewise in Gilgamesh,

Breaching Social Norm Experiment
For my breaching social norm experiment I was determined to do something I would never do

decided to make people feel uncomfortable by holding their hand. What I would do is walk up to
the person from behind and slowly make my way to their handto make them feel even more
uncomfortable. People normally hold hands with their significant other, or with someone they
know like a friend or family member, so to be holding hands with a stranger is out of the
ordinary and awkward. In preparation to starting our experiment it took my confidant Carla and
I about an hour to finally initiate the first move. Before even holding hands with strangers my
mind was swirling with multiple questions and thoughts, like Why am I even doing this? , I don

stomach felt as if it was in a twisted knot. While I approached my first victim I felt the
temperature of my body raise up to boiling point and the color of my skin turn from snow white
to lava red in a split second. To make things worse once I held onto the lady s hand she was
gripping onto mine and was holding on tight, and my reaction was to laugh because when you are

Epidamnus Mistaken Identity
In a play about mistaken identity, the characters are the main focus. The characters of the
Menaechmus twins are at the core of the story. They are introduced as having very different

Persuasive Essay On Snow Leopards
Endangered species is a quandary to an ecosystem in an environment. The snow leopard is an
animal that has been endangered since 1972. They are endangered for the most common reasons
such as being hunted for fur but also for more effective reasons for the peopleof the snow leopard s
habitat, central Asia. The snow leopardis at an advantage of being at thetop of the food chain, but
their food source is beginning to take a toll as that is being hunted as well. Regardless of
endangering factors to the snow leopard, any contingencies have to becontemplated to save what s
left of the population. The snow leopard is a pantherauncia whose conservation status is
endangered. Therationale for this predicament is that it is quite conventional for hunters in central
Asia to hunt these animals for their fur. Huntingfor fur is the most frequent vindication for a
species to go endangered; however, now leopards have another reason to be hunted and that is
for their organs, bones, and skin. These circumstances are more advantageous for Asian
medicines.Hunting is not only a concern for the snow leopard but also to livestock such as
sheep and goats. However, these hunts are a key component to snow leopards because these
animals are what snow leopards prey on. With a viable food source being withdrawn from a
habitat, the snow leopards are found to be desperate for a food source. Snow leopards are in an
onerous condition if the hunts continue and their food source is being extracted. The
endangerment of the snow leopard not only lies on the foundation of excessive hunts and food
removal but also in the uncontrollable ecosystem transformations. Snow leopards are found in the
mountainous terrain of central Asia. Normally they live 3,000 and 5,400 meters aloft sea level.
However, if the latitude is lower, for say 1,000 meters above sea level then climates are instituted
to be cold and dry letting a limited amount of vegetation, grass or shrubs, to grow, which only grow
in vertiginous inclinations of the mountains. Snow leopards will habitually appoint subdued

While different nations have proclaimed healthcare to be an essential right, the United States
regards medical services as a benefit, made available to the individuals who can manage the cost
of it. The health care system should not be considered a privilege, rather it should be seen as a
fundamental human right. Hence, the healthcare system should be more effective in serving the
needs of all citizens. Health care can in no way be considered to be a privilege. Citizens who
labor to boost the American economy should have the basic amenities they desire. Without good
health, people cannot be as productive as they should be. A country with sick workers will have
a low gross domestic product (GDP). However, America is a country with enviable GDP. This
means that American citizens are working hard enough and should be able to get good services
in issues of their health. Monopolizing the health sector has resulted in underservice of the
working class in America, especially the middle class. If the working class strives hard to cover
their health bills, how much more the low class or the unemployed who cannot get enough
insurance to cover their bills? The GDP of America does not truly reflect the well being of
Americans. A lot of people cannot afford health care and look to the insurance companies for help.

technique that is used to bring about an improvement in a project, process or the entire organization
for that matter. In this paper, we will first start, first, the background of lean will be explored i.e.,
Agile and CMMI. After that, how Lean and CMMI, although two techniques for an entirely
different purpose could still work in conjunction to enhance a software... Show more content on

Agile methods also help teams meet the industry standards with less overheads than other
software development methodologies because of the timeboxed iterations and the critical benefit
here is that the entire project can easily adapt to even radical changes with much less costs.
Whereas on the other then, a CMMI or capability maturity model integration for development is a
particular type of process improvement maturity model for development of products and services
which are developed by software engineering institute or SEI. Capability Maturity Model
integration intention is actually not to impose a list of practices on the organization and similarly
its intention is neither to apply as a standard so that every other organization ends up complying
it. It is something rather different and specific, if it s used appropriately, CMMI is meant to help
locate very specific areas where the change in the organization can provide some greatest value in
their processes, projects and the organization overall based on the business s objectives. Before
understanding how the conjunction between Lean and CMMI could work it s important to
understand how do they differ fundamentally i.e., how CMMI and Agile differs. CMMI evaluates
the organization as a single and whole entity and its development processes. In comparison, the
agile method is actually a single development process. This means that both of the concepts are
fundamentally different and not comparable by

The Influence Of The Middle Ages In Medieval Europe
Were the Middle Ages in Europe characterized more by hope or desire?
The early middle ages in Europe were characterized by conflict. Vikings, Eastern tribes, and Muslim
armies battered the continent from all sides. Most of the emperors were too weak to fight off the
threats after emperor charlemagne. Powerful nobles independently controlled their own land, in
which they usually were servile to their emperor. Feudalism then became the main political, social,
and economic organization of medieval Europe. Serfs worked as primarily farms but could be
called to the war at any time. They didn t have many rights but they could own their own freedom
and work on their own land, but most of them soaked in misery.
Monarchs had limited power and usually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They built beautiful cathedrals and churches as a sign of their faith in God. When you visit a
medieval church or cathedral you do not get a feeling of despair. I would personally say that the
Middle ages were characterized by hope. The believed and had a deep feeling for Christ.
Towns grew larger during the middle ages and were centre of craft, commerce and trade. People
were able to grow rich through their business skills. There was always hope that a poor man might
be able to improve his lot in life.Even peasants, who are sometimes thought of as desperately poor
and wretched, could improve their lot in life. some peasants were better off than others, and some
even became wealthy through accumulating land. There were technological innovations. Farming
methods were improved, and there were inventions like spectacles, and the printing press.
The middle ages was a period of nothing but hope. They always looked for the positive in things
and always looked at the bright side of everything. There wasn t a time that they thought bad about
a situation. They always believed that the best would happen because of Christ and I think that is
how they got through what the did and succeeded as they did. They were extremely

Dispositional, Biological, and Evolutionary Psychology
University of Phoenix
Dispositional, Biological, and Evolutionary Psychology
Personality theory has come a long way since its beginning in psychology. Many theorists have
based their work on theorists before them, but made changes that indicate that the characteristics of
the individual affects the ideas behind their work (Feist, Feist, amp; Roberts, 2013). Comparing
dispositional, biological, and evolutionary theories indicates the similarities and differences
between the theories; as well as their strengths and weaknesses. The use of these theories has led to
research and tests, such as the big five test, that help indicate personality characteristics of
individuals (Feist, et ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Focusing on how our mind works, is designed, and how our mind interacts to our environment
evolutionary psychology sees behavior as an adaptation (Feist, Feist, amp; Roberts, 2013).
Evolutionary psychology, once again looks at humans not just from a psychoanalytical perspective,
not just a biological perspective, but from both as well as an environmental perspective (Feist, et al,
2013). It is broad in its application without denying theories of others.
What will you find common among all of the theories mentioned above is the use of drives to
motivate human behavior. Dispositional theories assert that humans look to the future for
motivation (Wilderdom.com, 2005). These theories look at current events and goals, as opposed
to the past, to establish their behavior. Biological psychology does not attribute humans much
free will (Wilderdom.com, 2005). It focuses on what has been predetermined for the person
based on biology through genetics, or structure, for example. Evolutionary psychology views
behavior as a product of evolutionary drives for power and sex (Wilderdom.com, 2005). This
outlook is similar to Freudian views on sex and aggression, but instead of being based
subconscious thought it is now based on an evolutionary need to adapt and overcome.
Critiques on Theories
The challenge for any of these theories is to be scientifically tested. Dispositional theories have
done a lot to expand the field of personality and have been very useful at initiating

Big Five Surveys
I took the Big Five questionnaire and the LIFE survey. Both of these surveys collect self
reported data (S data). Self reported data is very beneficial to researchers in that it allows them to
gain knowledge only known by the individual. Questionnaires and surveys which provide S data
are limited by the answers provided. It is easy to lie or skirt the truth when self reporting data. In
my opinion, the Big Five questionnaire was a more accurate assessment of my personality than was
the assessment from the LIFE survey. The Big Five questionnaire measures personality factors in
five dimensions; openness, contentiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism. The
score on the Big Five purportedly indicates how well a person fits into their... Show more content on

The LIFE survey was very similar to the Big Five in that it measures personality in multiple
dimensions and then gives a numerical score for each dimension. The dimensions on the LIFE
survey are suburbanite, cultured, slacker, and preppie. In the suburbanite dimension, I scored 8
out of 13. According to the survey, people who score higher in the suburbanite dimension live a
more conventional life style and tend to be more family oriented and conservative than those
who score lower. I agree with this score. I tend to be more of a homebody and I enjoy cooking,
which is a sign of a suburbanite. I scored 2 out of 13 in the cultured dimension which I disagree
with. The interpretation of my low cultured score contradicts the interpretation of my low
slacker score. Cultured people try to better the world around them by attending museums,
volunteering, and writing letters. People who score low in this dimension as I did, are assumed
to be the kind of people who eat too much junk food and watch too much TV. The discrepancy
probably arose due to my introversion tendencies, as cultured people are purportedly expressive
and vocal. I scored low, 3 out of 13, in the slacker dimension. I apparently relate better to other
humans than I do to computers, and I know that smoking and drinking in excess are bad for my
health. People who score high in the slacker dimension live unhealthy lifestyles, characterized by
their excessive use of TV, fast food, smoking, and drinking habits. I agree with my slacker score,
but this assessment of my personality in the slacker dimension directly contradicts the assessment
in the cultured dimension. I supposedly eat too much fast food and indulge in too much TV
according to my cultured score, but according to my slackers score I live a healthy life style
characterized by my infrequent indulgence in fast food, TV, smoking, and alcohol. The
contradictment of these two dimensions goes to show that it is

A Concise Statistical Analysis Report
Introduction As an Operations Manager we have been tasked with submitting a forecasting report
that shows the sales of the number of transformers required to produce voltage regulators. For the
purpose of explanation, these voltage regulators main purpose is to protect refrigerators from
power surges and electrical catastrophes. Throughout the course of this paper elements will be
strategically place to develop a concise statistical analysis report to cover the following: Any

As sales began to plunge, leaders began to reevaluate the policy in regards to stocking spares and
components in its factory store. The thought of retaining a massive stock of said parts was
debatable. Although it was, in essence, necessary to retain some parts for the transformer
management began to contemplate just how much enough was. Another issue that surfaced was
the price consistency. A Cat Corp essentially had only one supplier. So with such minute sources
there is a lots of room for suppliers to raise prices which in turn places a strain on the business.
Although A Cat Corp is still generating consistent revenue growth as far a profit, sales have been
faltering in relation to competitors. The original method for forecasting how many transformers
they will need to meet said demand was to examine the sales figures of the preceding months as
well as the previous two years around the same time and they would hypothesize how many
transformer they would need. Although this method proved plausible in previous testing phases
there have been instances of under or over stocking. Supplier issues are also beginning to
heightened concerns in regards to inconsistent ordering approaches. Ratnaparkhi, Head of
Operations, has been asked to develop an analysis of the data submitted to him and to present a
report with

Indian Ocean Research Paper
The Indian OceanJon Alikakos tsunamiMr. Pizzuto
On the morning of December 26, 2004 on the eastern shoreline of India, individuals saw the ocean
retreating a couple of hundred meters and they could see the uncovered beach front rack. This
happened in light of the fact that an enormous tsunami which happened after the undersea seismic
tremor with a size of 9.3 severed the bank of Bandeh Aceh in Northern Sumatra.
This wave spread itself to a length of 1200 km reaching the Indian Coast, Sri Lanka, Maldives
furthermore up to eastern waterfront Africa. As the torrent waves approach the shore, water
becomes shallower, waves back off, the wavelength gets to be distinctly shorter and the statures of
the wave get to be extremely dangerous.

There is not generally only one wave that hits, more often than not there is numerous waves

There is an immense danger in this as many people think the main wave is the last rush of a torrent

  • 3. Symbolism In Lunchbox On a daily basis, people are affected by infrastructures. When thinking about infrastructure, a physical operation such as freeways and transportation comes to mind; however, infrastructures are not limited to such restrictions. An infrastructure is a system that combines its physical form with symbolism. Infrastructures demonstrate the relationship from the past and future, affect people s lives, and have a deeper meaning underneath the physical surface. This can be better understood from the reading InfrastructureToolbox and noticed in the film Lunchbox. One s culture is highly influenced by the past. It creates and explains their tradition while ultimately determining what the future holds. For instance, food plays a crucial role in culture especially for the people of Bombay/Mumbai; which is where the film Lunchbox takes placed. The film focuses on a delivering system that acts as an infrastructure. This system is made up of people delivering home cooked meals and meals from restaurants at the consumer s job for their lunch. One major reason why the people of Mumbai utilizes this system is to maintain their tradition of having warm home cooked meals despite them being at work. This displays the importance of family to them. The food symbolizes the feeling of being connected and together despite the distance. These lunchboxes are able to keep the tradition of having a hot home cooked meal alive. Because of the old tradition, this new concept of delivering lunch boxes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Followers reaction towards a leader decides the effectiveness of his or her specific style of governance. Because of the importance of the subordinate, leaders must treat everyone they manage with dignity and respect. To achieve this feat, the leader must understand the meaning of cultureand other aspects which stem from it and social perceptions and biases which lead to schema and ultimately unjust stereotypes. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We see the world through our own lens crafted and shaped by our culture. By these lens we conduct a process called attribution which is the rationalization of a person s traits, motives, abilities and situational pressures. These rationalizations are called schema. Schema are products of the human s natural process of categorizing people as groups instead of individual entities. There are many types of schema, but the most commonly known and used schema is the group schema or a stereotype. An example of a stereotype is that all football players are dumb. Even though I once was a football player, I found myself believing this stereotype during a lab. I had a question on the procedure of the lab and as I was about to ask the classmate next to me, I realized he was a football player and I did not ask him for a while because I thought he was even more confused than I was. Although this thought went through my mind, I eventually forced myself to ask him, and he knew exactly what was going on in lab. I was very angry at myself for putting this man in a stereotype and not taking the time to actually know the football player. Stereotypes in America are usually used towards social, racial, religious, and ethnic groups. Other types of schema are personal schema which are assumptions made from knowing one attribute of a person, self schemas which are thinking yourself as fat, so you may diet too much or become bulimic and become anorexic, and event schemas which are schemas created from what people expect to happen during a simple event. Schema can be dangerous especially towards people because when assumptions are made, the leader feels no need to actually get to know the individual. This can lead to ... Finding the Right Words After a 40 year career in which the need to write has always featured prominently, I still find the prospect of committing pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard, a daunting experience. Don t get me wrong, I don t dislike writing. On the contrary, I derive a great sense of satisfaction from completing any writing task or assignment. Indeed, a lifetime of writing leads me to believe that writing well and enjoying the experience, like most worthwhile endeavors, requires preparation, hard work, and an unyielding commitment and desire to succeed. Furthermore, I have come to realize that in the words of the ancient Chinese philosopher, Lao Tzu, A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step. At the outset, I feel that every writing project is like a thousand mile journey, and I know I ll get there in the end if only I have the courage take that first, single step if only I can find the right words. My earliest recollection of writing is at around six or seven years old, meticulously copying longhand letters and words in my elementary school copybook. The perfectly formed characters, uniformly spaced at the top of each page, appealed to my sense of order encouraging me to replicate the cursive lettering as faithfully as I could on the printed lines below. Conflict can be damaging but with the right skills and the ability to resolve it, it can be beneficial to the team (Bowes, 2008). This conflict resolution strategy respects individual differences. When using this method a few simple rules are followed. Make sure that good relationships are the first priority: Treat others with respect, speak calmly and try to be courteous to the other members of the team. Keep people and problems separate: By keeping the problem separate from the person and realizing that the person isn t just being difficult the problem can be debated without causing damage to the team. Pay attention to the interests that are being presented: Listening to the team will help with the understanding of where each person is coming from. Listen first; talk second: To solve the problem effectively each person needs to listen to the information being presented by each team member and understand where they are coming from before defending their own position. Set out the Facts : Establish an objective and make sure everyone agrees on what is set forth. Explore options together: Be open to other ideas a person will never know what idea is going to present itself and it just may work for the team. If a team follows these simple rules they can often keep discussions positive and constructive. This helps a team stay on task and prevent destructive conflict that can spiral out of control and destroy a team. It was also created so that the smaller states received extra power as to not be overpowered by the larger states. Currently, the Electoral College consists of 538 electors. The number of members in the House of Representatives and Senate decides the numbers of votes that a state receives. The District of Columbia however has three electors and has been looked at like a state for the Electoral College under the 23rd Amendment ( U.S. Electoral College ). This system was first created by the founding fathers through fear that a person could manipulate the public in order to come to power. Therefore, a candidate running for presidency could win the run even if they do not win the popular vote. However, I think that the Electoral College is out of date and should be changed. This is because we, as a whole, are not fairly represented because we are only represented as a state, and not as each individual. Throughout our course of history, there have been multiple times where a candidate had received popular vote but not the electoral votes necessary. This was shown in the 2000 election where President George Bush and Al Gore were both candidates in this election run. • 23. Greek Tragedy and Modern Drama Greek Tragedy Modern Drama Tragedy as a form works differently than modern drama when compared to the ancient Greeks. When it comes to modern drama, the main character is usually an ordinary person, someone who is middle class. Where as with Greek tragedy, the main character is someone important and noble, such as a king or queen. Modern drama revolves around everyday problems such as social, economical, or personal conflicts. Greek Tragedies seem to be very linear. It s mostly about the hero making a bad decision from the beginning of the play, which leads to his or her downfall in the end. Although, they were of higher ranking, ancient Greek s beliefs made the main character powerless to avoid their fate, which was controlled by the gods. As far as conventions go, Greek Tragedies are very unified. The tragedy of the royal protagonist will go through only one time span, a day or less, one setting, and one story. In a modern tragedy, however, the ordinary protagonist s story goes through multiple realistic settings and a realistic time line. Also, the story would contain multiple plots, which may contain flashbacks. Taking a look at the elements of a Greek tragedy, a play called Oedipusthe King is a good example. The established higher education model that I tend to gravitate toward and support in my higher education philosophy is the student centered learning theory also sometimes called learner centered teaching or a student centered model. The theory of student centered learning can be contributed to Hayward as early as 1905 and in 1956 to John Dewey (O Neill and McMahon, n.d.). As a result of this many players are at risk for severe injuries during their playing career. Although many of the injuries happen on accident most of them can be avoided. The chance of obtaining an injury in hockey is heightened because it is a physical contact sport. There s checking and tripping and fights that break out. The players are also on a slippery surface that s equivalent to falling on cement. With all of this in mind there is no doubt that a hockey player will experience some sort of injury during their time playing. Some of the most common hockey related injuries are concussion, back injuries, and knee injuries. To begin with the chance of getting injured during a hockey game is dependent on a multitude of things. The players position is an important thing when it comes to injury, some players experience more physical contact than others. The protective equipment is also a must have. • 29. Exercising Process Exercising requires the skeletal muscles to have chemical energy from ATP in order to contract and relax. Chemical energy is present in the macromolecules of the foods people consume everyday such as protein, carbohydrate, and fat. Cells metabolized these molecules to produce energy that is used to form ATP. The demand for ATP increases as people exercise but skeletal muscle fibers store very little ATP therefore, in order to continue exercising, ATP must quickly be replenished continuously. Most of the ATP generated is during oxidative phosphorylation while some is also produced during glycolysis. Glycolysis is an anaerobic process that metabolizes glucose to pyruvic acid. Pyruvic acid is converted to acetyl CoA in the presence of oxygen, which then enters the citric acid cycle. During the citric acid cycle, ATP is formed from phosphorylation while hydrogen is oxidized to water which constitutes most of the ATP generated. Pyruvic acid is converted to lactic acid if not enough oxygen is supplied to the active muscle and lactic acidosis occurs which increases the acidity of the blood. Lactate from the blood is removed and converted back to pyruvate by muscle fibers, which is then oxidatively metabolized to generate and replenish ATP at the end of intense exercise... • 31. Cultural Values And The Dominant Culture When looking to understand one s culture in comparison to the dominant culture it is important to take into consideration a variety of cultural values. In comparing myself to the dominant culture in the United States I have found both similarities as well as differences between my worldviews and the majority worldview. In order to fully assess how I have come to acquire my worldviews it is important to look into contextual and circumstantial factors that have shaped me as an individual. American culture values individualism where putting yourself first is seen as the norm. In comparison, Hispanic cultures value the family, or a group dynamic, rather than each person as an individual entity (Kirst Ashman, 2013, p. 457). I am close with my family and value the family dynamic we have as a group; however, I believe that I must first take care of myself in order to be able to help out others. In addition, competition is valued by dominant American culture. In America winning is everything (Scott, 2015). Although I value individualism, I am the least competitive person I know. I believe that this stems from placing value on myself for myself (and well being) rather than for others or in comparison to others. When focusing on the individual it is easy to place high importance upon one s status within society. American culture places high value upon credentials, titles, roles, and material possessions that create each person s power status. It would be absurd for me to say that my ... They are endangered for the most common reasons such as being hunted for fur but also for more effective reasons for the peopleof the snow leopard s habitat, central Asia. The snow leopardis at an advantage of being at thetop of the food chain, but their food source is beginning to take a toll as that is being hunted as well. Regardless of endangering factors to the snow leopard, any contingencies have to becontemplated to save what s left of the population. The snow leopard is a pantherauncia whose conservation status is endangered. Therationale for this predicament is that it is quite conventional for hunters in central Asia to hunt these animals for their fur. Huntingfor fur is the most frequent vindication for a species to go endangered; however, now leopards have another reason to be hunted and that is for their organs, bones, and skin. These circumstances are more advantageous for Asian medicines.Hunting is not only a concern for the snow leopard but also to livestock such as sheep and goats. However, these hunts are a key component to snow leopards because these animals are what snow leopards prey on. With a viable food source being withdrawn from a habitat, the snow leopards are found to be desperate for a food source. Snow leopards are in an onerous condition if the hunts continue and their food source is being extracted. The endangerment of the snow leopard not only lies on the foundation of excessive hunts and food removal but also in the uncontrollable ecosystem transformations. Snow leopards are found in the mountainous terrain of central Asia. Normally they live 3,000 and 5,400 meters aloft sea level. However, if the latitude is lower, for say 1,000 meters above sea level then climates are instituted to be cold and dry letting a limited amount of vegetation, grass or shrubs, to grow, which only grow in vertiginous inclinations of the mountains. Evolutionary psychology, once again looks at humans not just from a psychoanalytical perspective, not just a biological perspective, but from both as well as an environmental perspective (Feist, et al, 2013). It is broad in its application without denying theories of others. What will you find common among all of the theories mentioned above is the use of drives to motivate human behavior. Dispositional theories assert that humans look to the future for motivation (Wilderdom.com, 2005). These theories look at current events and goals, as opposed to the past, to establish their behavior. Biological psychology does not attribute humans much free will (Wilderdom.com, 2005). It focuses on what has been predetermined for the person based on biology through genetics, or structure, for example. Evolutionary psychology views behavior as a product of evolutionary drives for power and sex (Wilderdom.com, 2005). This outlook is similar to Freudian views on sex and aggression, but instead of being based subconscious thought it is now based on an evolutionary need to adapt and overcome. Cultured people try to better the world around them by attending museums, volunteering, and writing letters. A Cat Corp essentially had only one supplier. So with such minute sources there is a lots of room for suppliers to raise prices which in turn places a strain on the business. Although A Cat Corp is still generating consistent revenue growth as far a profit, sales have been faltering in relation to competitors. The original method for forecasting how many transformers they will need to meet said demand was to examine the sales figures of the preceding months as well as the previous two years around the same time and they would hypothesize how many transformer they would need.
