Abstract
To examine the effects of rewards on intrinsic motivation for children in special education, a review of
research was conducted. Students who are intrinsically motivated, tend to experience school success
because they select challenging activities and spend more time on the task at hand. It can be very easy
to undermine intrinsic motivation by using rewards. This change in motivation then results in more
errors in the learning process as well as slower acquisition of skills.
Intrinsic or Extrinsic Motivation and Student Achievement
Students with learning disabilities are often extremely unmotivated. To them, school tends to be one
failure after another. This poor student achievement is usually due to an extreme lack of motivation. In
attempts to overcome this lack of motivation, rewards are offered. Many of us have heard, If only they
were more motivated, they would do so much better on test and get better grades when having
conversations about these individuals. The effect that is intended for the reward is often mistaken and
therefore it can have the opposite effect of what was originally intended. Children who lack intrinsic
motivation will get the wrong idea from receiving rewards. Sometimes when rewards are used, the

severely negative repercussions on how our society functions. The inequity demonstrated by our
nation in the past has estranged its residents based on their religion, the color of their skin, their
beliefs, and even their gender. With time, our community has become more accepting which has led to
the abolishment of most, if not all, bigotry and racist beliefs. However, there is still an issue today that
we have been facing for almost a century. This conflict has led to the prohibition of certain people
obtaining a particular job in some cases, and the penalty of being paid less than her male colleagues if

Introduction
A generation can be defined as the period, cohort or age of a group of people. Age is seen as the age
that the persons were when particular transitions or events in life take place. Period can be defined as
the overall experience of a person s lifetime. Lastly, cohort can be seen as the overall grouping of
people who have shared events during their formative years that more than likely contribute to like
minded behavior throughout the duration of their lives. There are currently four generations in United
States society: Silent Generation, Baby Boomers, Generation X and The Millennials. The silent
generation was born between the years of 1930 and 1945. Significant events during this time period
include but are not limited to World War II and the Great Depression. The baby boomer generation
was born between the years of 1946 and 1964. Significant events for this generation include the
substantial growth of the middle class as well as economic prosperity. Generation X is born in the time
period of 1965 1979, this generation was brought together by the big energy issue as well as the
Vietnam War. Lastly the final generation that is currently in the workforce are the Millennials. This
generation was born between the years 1980 and 2001, this group is brought together by the 9/11
terrorist attacks as well as the internet

Effects Of Physical Abuse On Children
4.1: Abuse is when a child or young person is abused or neglected when someone inflicts harm, or
fails to prevent harm. Children may be abused in a family or in an institutional or community
environment, by those known to them or rarely by a stranger. There are different types of abuse, which
are Physical, Emotional, Sexual and Neglect. Physical abuse is when an adult harms a child or young
person or does not prevent them from harm. Physical harm can also be caused when a parent creates
the symptoms of or deliberately causes ill health to a child. Examples of physical abuse are when a
parent is shaking a child which causes harm. It is when a child is being poisoned force fed or being
given alcohol or drugs. Another example would be when a child is being suffocated or drowned. It can
be when a parent/carer burns or scalds a child. And when a parent/carer hits, throws and bites a child.
Physical signs of physical abuse may include: Untreated injuries from not going to the
doctors/hospital, scalds from having hot water poured on, torn frenulum from being forced fed,
fingertip bruising from grabbing the child, Behavioural signs of physical abuse would be that they
could become withdrawn from their friends and family or they can react in an aggressive behaviour by
getting into fights, swearing ect. They might not want to undress in front of people to avoid them

character whom he introduces to the listeners by describing one of her facial features i.e. blue eyes. He
then moves on to observe her body and reveals how seductive she looks in a short and provocative
dress. The focus then again shifts back to the glossy lips that adds to her beauty. The woman is seen as
licentious who adopts special tricks to enchant the singer and trap him. Notice what metaphors are
used to compare the woman s body to a destructive bomb, and the woman to a killer. He further goes

Awakened (1) I awoke dazed and confused by the events that had happened the night before. As I sit
up I feel extremely light headed. I look around as my sight slowly returns. Everything is still kind of

Charlemagne s Reign
Charlemagne s rule lasted from 768 814 AD. He was king of the Franks from 768 814, king of the
Lombards from 774 814, and Emperor of the Romans from 800 814. He expanded the Frankish
Kingdom that incorporated much of Western and Central Europe. During his reign, he conquered Italy
and was crowned Imperator Augustus by Pope Leo III. He was born into a great family; both his father
and grandfather were rulers of the Franks before him. Charlemagne was crowned Emperor of the
Romans in the year 800, and he proved himself as a great ruler throughout his reign. He began the

When Pope Leo III was ambushed by a group of Roman aristocrat rivals, he summoned Charlemagne
for help, because he could no longer fend off his enemies in the city. After Charlemagne calmed
representatives from both sides and restored Leo to power, the pope wanted to show his gratitude. He
called Charlemagne to St. Peter s Cathedral in Rome on Christmas day 800. Charlemagne was
kneeling before the altar in prayer when Pope Leo III approached him from behind and placed the

India After Ww1
The question for this investigation is: How did WW1 affect India s social development with Great
Britain? India played a key part in World War One; however, their contribution to Great Britain is
severely overlooked. They began pushing towards a more self government approach and this began
impacting their relations with Britain. Expecting to be rewarded for their efforts, India assisted Britain
in the war by sending millions of volunteers to the Western Front; thus began their alliance goals with
them. Near the end of the war, they began realizing that self government they pictured wasn t going to
happen, so tensions began rising towards the Independence movement with Mahatma Gandhi and the

Hence, the purpose of this letter was written in hopes of giving the British government an idea of the
tension India has with them since they do not approve of their constrictive efforts and lack of
acknowledgment for the war effort. It emphasizes the trend of decreased Indian involvement due to
British policy and outlines the effects this has on the people of India. This source is a valuable

are that it may be biased since Gandhi is a Hindu reformer and this letter outlines his actions
