Essay on Odysseus Journey Home
During Odysseus journey back home to Ithaca, him and his crew encountered many evils and troubles.
Almost every one of these took at least one of his men. Scylla is an example of this. This monster took
six of Odysseus men while on the journey home. Nearly ever was it Odysseus fault. His men caused
most of the problems that haunted them back to Ithaca. His hardships started when he was sent off to
fight in the Trojan War. He had to fight because he had made an oath to Helen s husband that he would
always defend her honor. When Paris abducted Helen he was then forced to fight. After he had fought
for Helen and had left, the wind then swept him to the island of the Cicones and fought and lost many
men. He survived this mishap and then ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They tried to stay quiet but the Cyclopes spotted them and asked what they were doing in his cave. He
really didn t care because he snatched two of his men up, smashed their heads, torn them limb by
limb, ate them. Day by day he did this and when the Cyclopes was sleeping, Odysseus told his men
that they needed to find a way to get out of there and so they did. When the Cyclopes awoke,
Odysseus offered him some of his wine and he tried it and begged for more so Odysseus just kept
giving it to him drink by drink until he was drunk. The Cyclopes asked Odysseus what his name was
and Odysseus said Nothing. As soon he asked that, he fell over and slept peacefully. While he was
sleeping Odysseus found a large branch and asked his strongest men to put the tip in the fire and when
it was burning red, they shoved the hot part of the stick into the Cyclopes eye. The Cyclopes let out a
loud roar that woke up his neighbors. They came running and asked if someone was killing him and
the Cyclopes answered Nothing is killing me! So his neighbors left without second thought. When the
Cyclopes let his herd of sheep out Odysseus and his men clang to the bottom of the sheep and left the
island safely. After suffering from the Cyclopes, Odysseus ship came to a stop at the land of Aeolia
(king of the winds). Aeolia let him and his men stay on his island for a month so they could recover.
Before they left, Aeolia gave Odysseus all the east

Era Of Good Feelings Dbq Essay
During the early 1800 s, after the War of 1812 the Era of Good Feelings emerged, due to the nation
having relatively little political conflict over foreign diplomacy and policy, faded away into harmony,
during President Monroe s terms in 1816. As Well, there was virtually one political party at the time
Democratic Republican Party, thus, eliminating conflict with other political parties and an increased
sense of nationalism, mostly due to the Nations pride with there Victory against the British in the War
of 1812. Although nationalism helped to unite the country. Sectionalism was dividing it, with the
interests of ones region, rather, than a whole nation. The interests of the North, South, and West were

This economic crisis was caused by mostly the Congress s decisions and the Second National Bank.
Congress increased tariffs such as the Embargo Act, Non Intercourse Act, and others that tax s imports
to reduce the competition and protect domestic manufacturers, but this decision hurt the farmers in the
south, that all goods was imported from other places, making increasing the price of the exporting
goods and making it more expensive for the Southerners (Doc A). Yet this brought nationalism
towards manufacturer in the northeast states of the U.S because it supported the nation as a whole with
manufacturer goods domestically rather then being imported and the tariffs was made by the feudal
government. The second reason was that Congress restore the National Bank which lent loans for
people to purchase land in the west due to the McCulloch v. Maryland trial (Doc D). This also shows
that the Federal government remains above all state based legislatures and courts, thus promoting
nationalism. However, when the bank tightened its credit policy and demanded loans to be paid back,
it caused foreclosures, widespread economic deficits and causing the Panic of 1819. The grand need of
a better transportation was in grand need for the transportation was seen by John C. Calhoun in
Congress of to distribute, manufacturer, and receive raw material for goods, in a fast and reelable time.
As well he seen as a disunity from the nation. He wanted to unite the U.S by making a system of roads
and canals to blend the county (Doc B). This was very beneficial to the government where it increased
production of good in the northern states and distribute food crops like wheat and corn from northwest
states to other. This as well is nationalism mostly because its unites the the country and its was very

Examples Of What It Means To Be An American Essay

Nursing is a profession that is ever evolving due to many factors such as changes in societal patterns,
new research and discoveries, new emerging technologies, new diseases and treatments, etc. For this
very reason, some nurses have taken the time to take a step back to look at nursing as a profession and
the populations we serve. They have done research, and based on

This is also one of the major concepts of this theory, and therefore will be discussed later in this paper.
Frankl identified two states that describe a lack of meaning: existential frustration and existential
vacuum. Existential frustration is searching for meaning in which there is a state of being unsettled, of
waiting more from life. Existential vacuum is a sense of utter despair, of hopelessness, that life has no
meaning. People in existential vacuum lack the awareness of a meaning worth living for. They are
haunted by the experience of their inner emptiness, a void within themselves, which manifests itself
mainly in a state of boredom. (Frankl, 1984) This is the point when individuals may think about
ending their own lives.
Running Head: THEORY OF MEANING

The concept of meaning life purpose or meaning of life, ties into the next concept of this theory which
is freedom to choose. This is the liberty to make a selection among options that a person has control
over. Frankl believed that what people actually need is not a tensionless or peaceful state of mind but
rather to strive and struggle for a worthwhile goal, which is a freely chosen task, that is chosen not by
a therapist or anyone other than the person himself/herself. In order for this to come about, each
person must take full responsibility for

Taxing Bad Food
Healthy food now ceases to be on everyone s menu. The food pyramid was only there for show not
guidance. Unhealthy food has made it impossible to want food that are nutritious and beneficial. Now
if someone eats celery they are most likely forced to instead of wanting to. To consider a change in
one s mind there will be statistics, experiences, and cold hard evidence of these foods we so call love .
In the article Bad Food? Tax it, and Subsidize Vegetables , the author is trying to persuade and
convince that the food sold in the stores and given at school is harming our bodies. The author has this
notion of where things like soda, chips, and candy should be taxed. He explains that these sources are
the causes of cancer, diabetes, and heart disease. It does make sense of understanding how that
unhealthiness affects someone. The products are full with sugars, salts, greases, saturated fats, and
preservatives. The products we eat now are a recipe for disaster. It causes or blood pressure to rise, our
cholesterol to increase dramatically and causes weight problems etc. In the article Attacking the

industry has changed. She explained that when she was younger, she never remembered ... Show more

Gordon S. Wood s The Radicalism Of The American Revolution
Gordon S. Wood, in The Radicalism of the American Revolution, explicitly details the societal,
economic, and governmental institutions of Colonial American society, and considers the era to be pre
modern because of its strong focus on monarchy, hierarchy, and patriarchy. The colonial world in
America was traditional in its basic social relationships and in its cultural society. (Wood 11). Wood
even suggests that, in some respects colonial society was more traditional than that of the mother
country (12). With the concept of the traditionalism of the colonial world, Wood declares the era to be
pre modern. Pre modernism can be defined as the era before industrialization, which radically altered

My Graduate Career At Florida State University
On September 24, 2014, I attended the first multicultural event of my graduate career at Florida State
University. The Japanese Tea Ceremony was held in the Center for Global Engagement Auditorium
from 5 7pm on a Wednesday. Upon entering the auditorium, I was handed a program detailing the
ceremony format (Usu cha Tana temae). The program had three different types of languages
displayed: English, Hiragana/ Katakana and Kanji. Having no prior knowledge of what a tea
ceremony entails, I was excited to be a part of the experience. Prior to the formal ceremony beginning,
the auditorium was alive with quiet chattering amongst the 50 patrons in attendance. The entire theater
went quiet upon the dimming of the lights. The hostess, Mikiko Tanaka, entered the stage with a silent
gentleness I have never seen before. Her stature was proper and she was dressed in authentic Japanese
attire. Her formal guest, Genzo Tanaka was seated at a table on the left of the stage. For the next 30
minutes I watched, in complete silence save for a few short dialogue responses in Japanese between
the hostess and guest, amazed at the grace and preciseness of the ritual. That silence, grace and
preciseness was the first step outside of my cultural comfort zone during this experience. In American
culture, rarely is anything quiet, delicate and precise. Observing Mikiko s defined movements whilst
folding her napkin, wiping the edges of the bowl, stirring the tea and turning it the three required

New Wave Cinema
In David Cook s, A History of Narrative Film, it is said that the prevailing mode of postwar French
cinema was literary adaption, which caused French films to become increasingly verbal and theatrical.
It was against this tendency identified as the tradition of quality by Francois Truffaut and the other
critics writing in Cashiers du Cinema, that the New Wave reacted in the late 1950 s and 1960 s.
Camera stylo, which would permit the cinema to become a means of expression as supple and sbutle
as that of written language and would therefore accord filmmakers the status of authors. Astruc s
notion was to break away from the tyranny of narrative in order to evolve a new form of audiovisual
language (Cook, 350). Astruc went on to describe how the problem of the cinema is how to express
thought. The creation of this language has preoccupied all the theoreticians and writers in the history
of cinema, from Einstein down to the script writers and adaptors of the sound cinema (Cook, 350). ...

Summary Of The Wealth Of Nations By Adam Smith
In the passage given, Adam Smith examines the different methods that can increase the production of
land and labour. He discusses that production can be raised by using the methods of, division of labour
and capital accumulation. Smith also provides evidence throughout The Wealth of Nations, proving
that his method of labour division is the best way to develop the economy. The key behind Smith s
writing is to prove how division of labour will improve economic progress.
Initially, Smith proposes the idea of division of labour in the workplace. Division of labour is the
separation of tasks to its rawest form, broken into specializations. He believes that this is the key to
increase productivity and used the pin factory example to prove it. ... Show more content on

This allows for employees to work more efficiently since it helps them complete the task with ease.
Along with the growth model, Smith attempts to prove that a market system is self regulating. He
explains how the first step to a self regulating system is self interest. As humans, we thrive off of
profit or any method of material gain from goods and services. This self interest is what initiates the
system. The presence of competition keeps any one business from dominating the market. When there
are multiple sellers of a good or service, consumers will often purchase the one that they can get at a
more affordable price. This keeps competitors from raising their prices to gain a higher profit, since
the consumer most often opts for the lowest priced item. The last factor to the self regulating system
states that, changing desires of society lead producers to increase production of wanted goods and to
diminish the production of goods that are no longer as highly desired (Heilbroner 50). Therefore,
businesses must keep advancing their products in order to maintain relevance in the market. Society
has expectations that business must achieve, hence they must have an ongoing development in their
goods and service that adjust to the needs of the consumer. If they fail to do so, the product becomes
obsolete, which causes businesses to shut down. Smith s theories about the economy are based on the
assumption that all humans follow the rule of natural

Edward T. Hall s Four Spatial Zones
Anthropologist Edward T. Hall has defined four spatial zones that we use depending upon the content
that we are communicating and the level of self disclosure. Hall s four spatial zones begin with what
he calls intimate space, skin contact to 18 inches away, this is the space that we use for intimate
conversations, secrets, and deeper levels of self disclosure. The second of Hall s spatial zones is
personal space, 18 inches to 4 feet away, this spatial zone is used to communicate personal
information, but is less intimate than that of intimate space. The third of Hall s spatial zones is social
space, 4 to 12 feet away, in this spatial zone occurs more formal and impersonal communication. The

Ebola Hemorrhagic Fever
Ebola, once transmitted to a human is referred as Ebola hemorrhagic fever, is an uncommon viral
infection that deliberately targets every part of the human body with the exception of the skeletal
system. When this lethal disease enters the host, it will first cause pain throughout the body and
dramatically increase the body s temperature. Next, internal and external bleeding tends to occur,
specifically form the face. After that, it will simply destroy the bodily tissue that holds the host s

Also, the lack of general medical knowledge, such as common hygiene, in these states only severed as

Prostitution of Minors
Prostitution of minors occurs all around the world. We do not notice because it may not concern us,
and it is difficult to act when something does not affect us in any way. It affects you if you have
children or nieces who are under age right now selling themselves to help out their families who are in
need of money. What would you do right then to help them get out of that situation? That s what s
going on in Europe right now when you visit, is the same thing that is happening in Mexico. There are
many young girls selling themselves because they have to work to support their family. I had a
personal experience with this issue when I took a trip down to Mexico with my cousins once. It was
around 1:00 a.m, and we were heading back to the borderline to cross back into the U.S. On our way
there I saw an empty building that was full of women and children standing outside. I told my cousin
to stop, and I got out of the car to ask a girl who looked to be around 9 or 10 years old, what she was
doing there I will never forget her words, I came here to work to help out with money because right
now I m the only one who can . I told my cousin to help the girl with some money she could go home
for the day, so that she did not have to do this at least for a day. Those words of hers have stuck with
me to this day. Seeing these children out there that have to resort to these acts to support their family

Urinary Tract Disease Research Paper
Diet Changes for FLUTD
Feline lower urinary tract disease is a general term used when there is a condition affecting a cat s

obstruction, spasm of the muscle in the wall of the urethra, stress and behavioral problems, and
bacterial infections in the bladder (Understanding). Clinical signs of feline lower urinary tract disease

It is possible to make a homemade diet for your cat but these following things must be followed to
ensure a healthy urinary tract. Diluting the urine is extremely important to decrease the number of
possible irritants in the bladder causing inflammation in the bladder mucosa. One way to accomplish
dilution is to feed a canned food by increasing water intake. Another way to increase water intake is to
add a sodium supplementation, however this can be a problem in some cats especially ones with renal
failure. Highly acidic diets are not recommended because acidic diets can increase pain perception in
the bladder by stimulating the bladders nerves (Sanderson). Ensuring the diet is also low in
magnesium will help alleviate the chances of forming crystals, some of which are made up of
magnesium, therefore a low magnesium diet will prevent their formation. Also, ensuring the diet is
high in protein will bring the urine pH to an optimum level (pH 5.9 6.3) as well as a low fat content,
which is a contributing factor to feline lower urinary tract disease. (Understanding). Usually dietary
management will depend of the type of crystal present in the urine. A veterinary diagnosis with a
microscopic analysis of the urine is necessary to properly treat feline lower urinary tract disease. A cat

Influence Of Parenting Styles And Practices Globally
Numerous factors have been studied to account for different parenting styles and practices globally.
The attitude and response of parents to various parenting practices is based on the knowledge or

Research on parenting also has shown that parent education is related to a warm, social climate in the
home. Shumow and Miller (2001) described parental home involvement as those conversations
between parent and child that focused on school experiences, while school involvement was
conceptualized as parents availability for contact with the school. Epstein and Sanders (2002) looked
at both direct behaviors, such as attending parent teacher conferences, and indirect behaviors, such as
sharing educational expectations with the child. Research indicates that home involvement had greater
impact on academic achievement (VanVoorhis, 2003), while regular parent child discussions about
school and expectations had the greatest impact on educational outcomes of adolescents, including
truancy and dropping out (McNeal, 1999). Klebanov et al. (1994) found that both mothers education
and family income were important predictors of the physical environment and learning experiences in
the home but that mothers education alone was predictive of parental warmth. Although parental
involvement is an important contributor to children s positive school outcomes, much less is known
about the factors that motivate parents involvement practices. Avvisati et al. (2010) opined that due to
recent local and national reforms, parent s behavior and

Hudson River School Analysis
Artists of the Hudson River School Influence on my Artwork s Style and Concept.
The Artists of the Hudson River School have influenced my motives behind my artwork and the style
of my paintings. These artists namely being Frederic Edwin Church and Thomas Cole and their

in the painting. I looked at Heart of the Andes by Frederic Edwin Church and View on the Catskill,

Aiding to the clarity with which he sees and appreciates the landscape and thus speaking out to the
unobservant of nature s beauty, and the unconscious harmony of creation. Thomas Cole creates unity
in his paintings through texture and the use of the hue green. The texture throughout is soft and
created by the near non existent brush strokes. The repetitive use of green within the painting creates a
sense of nature and tranquillity in the scene. His painting does not have a specific focal point but by

Study Skills Process Analysis
In class we have learned skills on how to be an active note taker and studier. I have learned in the past
ways to do both; however, the ideas presented were very good ways for some people. Throughout this
essay, I will discuss how to study effectively as well as how to take notes effectively. I will also what
changes I have made to my routine for both. Note taking is an incredibly valuable skill, because with
taking notes, you have nothing to reference when you are studying. One good way to take notes is by
writing down keywords and follow them with brief descriptions. This strategy works well because you
do not get lost in a mess of information when studying. Another strategy is drawing a picture of what
it makes you think of, so that when you see the picture it will have the info attached to it. ... Show

My personal favorite is to use flash cards. Flashcards are just a form of word association, when you
see or hear certain words you immediately start to think of something other than that word. For
example, if you say dessert, I think of Apple Pie, then ice cream. Studying with word association
works the same way, so if I say President, I think of the current president and the powers of the
president. Another way to study effectively is to reward yourself for learning a set of information. For
example, when I finish a chapter of note taking and I know the chapter, I watch an episode of Parks
and Recreation. This way you take a little break as well as doing what you like to do. Studying this
way allows studying to become less of a

Mediation Stay Neutral And Remain Neutral
Introduction
Facilitative mediation is one of the sub types of the problem solving method, deriving from to
facilitate or to mediate between two parties, its style largely used from the 1960 70s it is one of the
original models which was generally and extensively used in the USA. The intent is to critically gauge
this style of mediation, and weigh arguments for and against, to analyse if the model is relevant today.
Questioning can this style of mediation stay neutral and remain in a guidance format only or does it
cross over into other styles of mediation.

Some mediators have classified themselves either facilitative or evaluative or in between depending
on the parties circumstance. However, Riskins conception of this grid was to try and make some sense
of the mediator s approach, can the facilitative mediator stay fixed in their style. The grid illustrated a
meeting point of two lines; one representing the mediator s concept of his role, and the other the
mediator s approach to the problem. When these two lines intersect, there are four quadrants which
represent different mediation situations. Riskin stated that the four quadrants each represent a general
location toward mediation: evaluative narrow, facilitative narrow, evaluative broad and facilitative
broad.
The Facilitative Narrow mediator will use past cases, skill and strategies in order to help the parties be
realistic about their conflict, underlining their strengths and weaknesses, and credible outcomes, using
experience, and techniques learned in order to bring focus back to a discussion. They will not asses or
offer suggestions, and allow the parties through shared interest to develop open discussion to reaching
mutual agreement, but will offer guidance on their legal positions and the concerns of non settlement.
The Facilitative Broad mediator tries to find options to help the parties express and relate to their
dispute and empower them to share interests in order to resolve any impasse. This can give

Frankenstein The Modern Prometheus
The Modern Prometheus
(An essay on why Frankenstein would be named a Modern Prometheus) When you read the book
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley you may oversee something very important that could possibly answer
many questions for you. One question it has answered for me was what was the purpose for writing
Frankenstein and to me it really doesn t have much to do with it just being a horror story. To me it is
about a man who defy s the laws of nature and because of that experience s the aftermath of bringing
the deceased back to life. Now another thing that may be racing through your mind is why exactly
would Mary Shelley title this The Modern Prometheus. Well, in my research I had found out that
according to Rebecca Dudczak the one reason was that Prometheus experiences the consequences
from power and enlightenment,(Dudczak) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

General William Sherman was in charge of the Union Army of the West. Under General Sherman, the
Union essentially tore through the deep south and the southeastern seaboard, destroying any factories,
warehouses or farmland that was used to supply Southern troops. His use of total warfare absolutely
decimated the South. I believe Sherman s March to the Sea was the most important event we ve

Ulysses S. Grant was promoted to the head of the Union Army, he appointed William Sherman to his

Genetically Modified Food
When I was a kid, science teacher taught me Genetically Modified Food is the research of the future
and will lead to solving the famine issues of the future. I heard lots of scientists were researching the
Genetically Modified Food and that they had already ended the experiment. So I thought no one
would have to bear hunger. Nowadays, despite the progress on Genetically Modified Food, many
people continue to suffer from famine. A lot of Genetically Modified Food comes to the market but
they do not affect the market price enough to completely solve world hunger. Furthermore, there are
various ethical issues concerning the use of Genetically Modified Food. In this essay, I would like to
discuss these ethical issues by first discussing the current debate of Genetically Modified Food s
effects to human body, the current practices involving Genetically Modified Food, and why this
controversy warrants labeling of Genetically Modified Food to help the consumers make informed
decisions of what type of food they are buying.
Today, some people do not even realize that the products what they put in the shopping basket are

Geology Essay
Geology is everywhere! We use items made from rocks and minerals all day and every day. Per the
University of Oregon, the Natural History Museum states that it is estimated that every person in the
United States will use more than three million pounds of rocks, minerals and metals during their
lifetime. A mineral is an inorganic substance occurring chemical compound, usually of crystalline
form that can be manipulated and used to make something else. A rock is the solid mineral material
that forms on the earths surface, and in the ocean. We use different rocks and minerals based on the
geologic timescale and the human time scale. Rocks and minerals are the building blocks of life. They
make up materials, that we use every day unconsciously. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They can be manipulated and transformed into various objects. Most minerals have more than one
purpose because they are so organic. Gold has been a hot commodity since it was discovered. Gold is
bought and sold every day, and every person wants their hands on it. Gold was named California s
state mineral in 1965 following the gold rush. It is used for mostly jewelry as well as for medals and
trophies. Gold can also be used in dentistry machine equipment. Today in society, gold is a symbol of
power and status. The more gold you have the more money people think you have. Talc is common
when it comes to powder like substances. It is one of the main ingredients in baby powder, and in the
powders used in gymnastics for good grip. Quartz is one of the most versatile minerals on earth s crust
as well as the most common. It is used to make sandpaper, soap, pottery, heavy equipment, heat ray
lamps, glass, paints, radios, televisions, clocks, computers, and watches. Quartz has many different
uses because of its special properties; under mechanical stress, it can develop electric properties.
Asbestos is another very common mineral. The crystal structure and chemical composition of this
mineral make its fibers very strong and resistant to heat and chemicals. Asbestos is flexible, which
makes it great for building materials like, ceiling and floor tiles, insulation for walls and pipes,
decorative coatings, and roofing materials. Asbestos is also used in yarn,

Similarities Between Mill And Nietzsche
Introduction
In today s paper, I will be discussing Mill and Nietzsche. These two have differing opinions on what
the biggest threat to society are: Mill argues that Freedom of Speech is essential to finding the truth
(Mill, 2006, p. P12) so even controversial opinions should be listened to. He fears that the tyranny of
the majority could mean the Truth could be lost because alternative opinions are not listened to. The
other threat to society to Mill is that women have fewer rights then men such as voting he believes
women should be allowed to have the same opportunities (John Stuart Mill; Alan Ryan, 2006). In
contrast, Nietzsche believes the biggest threat to society is the assumption that morality is natural.
Morality is dangerous because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nietzsche s argument about morality is, largely, about rejecting Christianity (Frederick Nietzsche;
Douglas Smith, 2008, p. P203). His statements about morality can be argued is a tool to critique
organised religion in general. In contrast, Mill s goal is to make society stronger through learning the
Truth (Mill, 2006, p. P12) and allowing equality (John Stuart Mill; Alan Ryan, 2006). The two s goals
are different hence their conclusions are quite different.
Mill s opinion on biggest threat to society
Firstly, like I stated in the introduction, Mill believes that the biggest threat to society is that Freedom
of Speech being stifled and women not having the same rights and opportunities as men. This is a
threat to society for several reasons. Mill pointed out that the opinion which it is attempted to suppress
by authority may possibly be true (Frederick Nietzsche; Douglas Smith, 2008, p. P386) which
indicates that an unpopular opinion could be true ignoring this opinion would mean the public would
be pursuing something which is incorrect this would clearly damage society. Mill also stated that
though the silenced opinion be an error, it may, and very commonly does, contain a portion of truth;
and since the general or prevailing opinion on any subject is rarely or never the whole truth, it is

Financial Accounting Standards Board For Profit And...
Introduction The Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) determines financial accounting and
reporting standards for profit and nonprofit organizations that follow the Generally Accepted
Accounting Principles (GAAP) (FASB, 2016). The FASB establishes various accounting standards
that better guides the organization financially and promotes transparency with a broader understanding

The Transnational Corporation (TNC) that I have chosen to research on is Nike. Nike was founded in
January of 1964. Their headquarters are located in Beaverton, Oregon. The shoes that are being
provided to consumers worldwide, however, are produced in hundreds of factories around the world.
Ironically, Nike shoes have never been produced in factories in the United States. The largest
producers are the factories located in China, Vietnam and Indonesia. Nike hires factory owners to
produce the shoes using the materials and designs provided by Nike. Nike does not directly own any
of these factories. The company itself focuses almost solely on designing the shoes, and after they
have been produced by the factories, Nike then advertises and markets the shoes in the most appealing
way possible. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Psychology Of Games And Gamers
The Psychology of Games and Gamers What is a Gamer? This question is thrown around today with
more accusations and people trying to defend themselves than anyone had thought possible before. A
gamer used to be someone who simply played games, but now it s been branched off into so many
different types of gamers. The main types I will be focusing on are as follows:
The Casual Gamer Someone who primarily plays casual games or plays games less frequently than
others.
The Core Gamer A player with a wider range of interests than a casual gamer. More likely to play
different types of games.
The Hardcore Gamer Players that are usually very competitive, usually are tech savvy, prefer to play
games that have depth and complexity.
The Pro Gamer Players that play on a professional level, usually deeply study one specific genre or
type of game to master and play it in competitions.
These types of gamers are the main builds of the gaming community, and, without them, the
community of gaming as we know it would be non existent.
These gamer types tend to play different types of games stretching from adventure, action, role
playing games (RPGs), and many more. The list is actually too long for me to name in this one paper.
Scientifically, each type of game has been shown to help people on a physiological level. First person
shooting games, for instance, have been shown to increase reflexes, hand eye coordination, and
multitasking skills, while RPGs

Impressions Gained of Pip s Character from Great Expectations
Pip is very much a child in the the first chapter. However, it is
Pip narrating it as an adult ( retrospective narrator). You know he is a child by his childish thoughts
and his rather odd imagination. He manages to come up with the childish conclusion that his father is
a
square, stout, dark man, with curly hair just by looking at his fathers tombstone. Also, that his mother
was freckled and sickly . It is quite bizarre that Pip has managed to conjour up that idea from a
tombstone. I think Dickens has done this to prove a childs nieve, yet wild imagination. I think Pip tries

An impression I also recieve from Pip is that he is very polite. He repeatedly uses the word sir when
speaking to Magwitch even when
Magwitch is threatening to cut Pips throat.
I also believe that the setting has a link to Pips feelings and the whole atmosphere. The setting is used
to make Pips visit to the graveyard more memorable . The setting s dark, flat wilderness also builds up
the tension and emotion for Magwitch s arrival. It also adds to Pip s fear and emotion. Magwitch was
a fearful man, all in coarse grey with a great iron on his leg . At this time Pip was undersized for his
years and not very strong . Pip is very afraid of Magwitch and he is only a young child who is already
going through the emotion of his parents and brothers deaths. You know Pip was very traumatised as
he sat trembling while Magwitch ate the bread ravenously and tried to keep himself from crying .
Pips fear of Magwitch grows when Magwitch says I ain t alone, as you may think I am . Dickens does
this to intimidate Pip even more and to make Pips experience with Magwitch as fearful and as
memorable as possible. Magwitch then starts to go into great detail about what the other man can
supposedly do. The description of the man kind of sounds like a ghost or horror story and Magwitch
refers to himself as an
Angel compared to the other man. You may think yourself comftable and safe, but that young man

Because additional galvanizing units were expected to be put into operation, the demand for zinc was
expected to grow continuously. In 2006, domestic consumption and exports of lead acid batteries, the
main lead consuming industry, had increased by 20 per cent and 35 per cent, respectively over 2005
levels. On the supply side, capacity growth was constrained by a lack of high quality mines and
limited smelter capacity. SZLN forecasted that this growth trend in the demand for lead and zinc
products would continue and, thus, increased its annual capacity to 180,000 tons of lead zinc ore and
400,000 tons of metal products. This expansion was financed by issuing 60 million new shares from
which SZLN received proceeds of RMB700 million. Output of ore in 2007 was approximately 99,900

The For Black Greek Organizations
Trailblazers for Black Greek Organizations in Higher Education:
The Journey of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.,
African American education systems and colleges faced many issues systematically and socially. The
process of integrating colleges was a process faced with opposition because the idea that higher
education was made for strictly for white upper class men was still the underlying ideal. While equal
opportunity was promoted in the light, behind the scenes, systematically money, policy, procedure
hindered black education and equal opportunity. Realizing this injustice, black students sought to find
their own solutions to social justice issues happening not only within higher education but their
communities while leading by example.
On December 5, 1776 the first collegiate fraternal greek letter organization in the United States, Phi

literary organizations, which were based on literary debates, and election, Phi Beta Kappa set many

What Is The Theme Of The Steel Magnolias
Steel Magnolias is the story of a close circle of friends whose lives come together. It starts out with a
wedding that Shelby Field and Dylan Mcdermott were having but Shelby s mom is scared to death
that Shelby may have a baby because if she does have a baby she could die because of this disease that
she was born with. The Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood is about a group of women that form a

Investigating The Co2 And Temperature Changes From The...
In this investigation, we were required to design our own self sustaining ecosystem, and monitor the
changes in temperature and CO2 levels. We compared the outside temperature and CO2 levels, to
those of our ecosystem. Self sustaining ecosystems are in the process of being designed tested, so that
one day humans will be able to survive and thrive on other planets, like Mars. The outcome of our
ecosystem was a failure, like all other previous attempts. Our ecosystem was too hot and had too
higher CO2 levels, to be able to sustain the life of insects, and grow plants. This was because, we did
not have enough fresh water, going into all the layers and fresh oxygen, as a result of no greenery
growing. I believe, if we placed grown plants in our bottle at the start of our experiment, we would
have had a very different outcome. Aim:
In this practical we are going to investigate the CO2 and temperature changes from the outside
environment, compared to our ecosystem in a bottle. We are also creating a fully self sustaining
ecosystem in a bottle, which needs to grow a type of plant and provide a habitable environment for an
insect/animal.
Hypothesis:
I believe that the temperature and CO2 levels inside our ecosystem will be a lot higher than outside
the bottle. I also do not think that our insects or plants will survive and thrive, because there is not
enough oxygen in the bottle, and it is too hot. Other groups that have plants and water in their bottle,
will have lower CO2

What Does The Wanderer Mean
Regrets and Old Age The poem, The Wanderer describes the sorrowful life of a lonely traveler whose
kinsmen have been slaughtered and his Lord is deceased (line 1). The Wanderer is traveling a cruel
journey sharing [his] bread with sorrow alone, an exile in every land, friendless and poor (lines 30 33).
However, this lonely man was not physically exiled from every land for his possible wrongdoings, but
he mentally exiled himself because of his old age and his regrets in life. The Wanderer proclaims that
life is dark and twisted and reminders of the endless slaughters of a bloody past will reign until the end
of time (lines 88 and 89). Throughout the poem, it is highlighted that the Wanderer is near death and,
therefore, he laments

Essay On Henrietta Lacks
Many of today s major vaccines would not have been possible without the ever so famous HeLa cells.
These cells have a very unique trait that makes them immortality. Although they sound like something
straight out of science fiction, they come from an actual woman named Henrietta Lacks who was
diagnosed with stage 4 cervical cancer. Although her cells went on to be world famous, Henrietta lived
a life of inequality because of her race, gender, and socio economic class throughout her short
lifespan. To begin with, perhaps one of her largest inequalities was racism, as it was to many blacks at
the time. Henrietta experienced racism from the beginning of her life to the very end. One may think
that a person s life would not depend on race, however ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means that she was also denied equal treatment in life due to her lack of money. Henrietta would
work way too much for way too little, leading her to not have the same choices and opportunities in
life that everyone else did. The novel shows this by stating, Henrietta spent most of her childhood
stooped in those fields planting Tabaco... (19), and she was lucky if [she even] sold enough Tabaco
each season to feed the family (24). This explains that Henrietta lived most of her life working and
having nothing to show for it. One might even say that she lived her life working so hard, only to have
her life cut short years later. She only continued to live in the hearts of her family who today are also
not getting enough money despite Henrietta s now being world famous. Henrietta s lack of money
made it difficult for her family to live on past her

Argumentative Essay On White People
We live in a society where white people have the upper hand in almost every circumstance. It is hard
for most if not all white people to understand and comprehend this because privilege is hard to see for
those who were born with access to power and resources (Kendall 1). White people aren t judged by
the color of their skin or certain facial features they possess. Because of their looks, people of color,
specifically black people get shot in the back for walking down the street or just simply fitting a
description. Arab, middle eastern, and dark skinned south Asian people get accused of being terrorists.
White people get to parade around the streets in their pickup trucks blasting Tim McGraw and their
white hillbilly country music waving around multiple confederate flags, armed with loaded weapons,
and wearing white hooded masks that look like a dunce cap covering their entire face which fits,
because white people are a huge disappointment. And some white people are still ... Show more

There are white people who know what s happening and going on and say I hate being white and I
wish I wasn t white and whenever a white person says that, there s always a feeling of discomfort. We
don t need your pity or self hate against your race to make us feel better. White people will be the ones
to speak against racism but spit racism back in our faces. Then, it gets worse as there are white people
who are quick to say all lives matter in response to black lives matter because if they aren t included in
the equation, they feel left out of the spotlight they ve had shining over them for so long. The irony to
this is that all lives didn t matter in the act of police brutality or when Europe colonized and invaded

Cultural Diversity of Russian Population
CULTURAL DIVERSITY OF RUSSIAN POPULATION 2 Cross cultural issues arise from
differences in values, behavior and thinking between
Americans and people from other countries. Misunderstandings frequently result from cultural
differences which lead to ineffective communication and implications for the healthcare system

  • 2. Essay on Odysseus Journey Home During Odysseus journey back home to Ithaca, him and his crew encountered many evils and troubles. Almost every one of these took at least one of his men. Scylla is an example of this. This monster took six of Odysseus men while on the journey home. Nearly ever was it Odysseus fault. His men caused most of the problems that haunted them back to Ithaca. His hardships started when he was sent off to fight in the Trojan War. He had to fight because he had made an oath to Helen s husband that he would always defend her honor. When Paris abducted Helen he was then forced to fight. After he had fought for Helen and had left, the wind then swept him to the island of the Cicones and fought and lost many men. He really didn t care because he snatched two of his men up, smashed their heads, torn them limb by limb, ate them. Day by day he did this and when the Cyclopes was sleeping, Odysseus told his men that they needed to find a way to get out of there and so they did. When the Cyclopes awoke, Odysseus offered him some of his wine and he tried it and begged for more so Odysseus just kept giving it to him drink by drink until he was drunk. The Cyclopes asked Odysseus what his name was and Odysseus said Nothing. As soon he asked that, he fell over and slept peacefully. While he was sleeping Odysseus found a large branch and asked his strongest men to put the tip in the fire and when it was burning red, they shoved the hot part of the stick into the Cyclopes eye. The Cyclopes let out a loud roar that woke up his neighbors. They came running and asked if someone was killing him and the Cyclopes answered Nothing is killing me! So his neighbors left without second thought. When the Cyclopes let his herd of sheep out Odysseus and his men clang to the bottom of the sheep and left the island safely. After suffering from the Cyclopes, Odysseus ship came to a stop at the land of Aeolia (king of the winds). Aeolia let him and his men stay on his island for a month so they could recover. Era Of Good Feelings Dbq Essay During the early 1800 s, after the War of 1812 the Era of Good Feelings emerged, due to the nation having relatively little political conflict over foreign diplomacy and policy, faded away into harmony, during President Monroe s terms in 1816. As Well, there was virtually one political party at the time Democratic Republican Party, thus, eliminating conflict with other political parties and an increased sense of nationalism, mostly due to the Nations pride with there Victory against the British in the War of 1812. This economic crisis was caused by mostly the Congress s decisions and the Second National Bank. Congress increased tariffs such as the Embargo Act, Non Intercourse Act, and others that tax s imports to reduce the competition and protect domestic manufacturers, but this decision hurt the farmers in the south, that all goods was imported from other places, making increasing the price of the exporting goods and making it more expensive for the Southerners (Doc A). Yet this brought nationalism towards manufacturer in the northeast states of the U.S because it supported the nation as a whole with manufacturer goods domestically rather then being imported and the tariffs was made by the feudal government. The second reason was that Congress restore the National Bank which lent loans for people to purchase land in the west due to the McCulloch v. Maryland trial (Doc D). This also shows that the Federal government remains above all state based legislatures and courts, thus promoting nationalism. However, when the bank tightened its credit policy and demanded loans to be paid back, it caused foreclosures, widespread economic deficits and causing the Panic of 1819. Frankl identified two states that describe a lack of meaning: existential frustration and existential vacuum. Existential frustration is searching for meaning in which there is a state of being unsettled, of waiting more from life. Existential vacuum is a sense of utter despair, of hopelessness, that life has no meaning. People in existential vacuum lack the awareness of a meaning worth living for. They are haunted by the experience of their inner emptiness, a void within themselves, which manifests itself mainly in a state of boredom. (Frankl, 1984) This is the point when individuals may think about ending their own lives. Running Head: THEORY OF MEANING !5 The concept of meaning life purpose or meaning of life, ties into the next concept of this theory which is freedom to choose. This is the liberty to make a selection among options that a person has control over. Frankl believed that what people actually need is not a tensionless or peaceful state of mind but rather to strive and struggle for a worthwhile goal, which is a freely chosen task, that is chosen not by a therapist or anyone other than the person himself/herself. Wood, in The Radicalism of the American Revolution, explicitly details the societal, economic, and governmental institutions of Colonial American society, and considers the era to be pre modern because of its strong focus on monarchy, hierarchy, and patriarchy. The colonial world in America was traditional in its basic social relationships and in its cultural society. (Wood 11). Wood even suggests that, in some respects colonial society was more traditional than that of the mother country (12). The Japanese Tea Ceremony was held in the Center for Global Engagement Auditorium from 5 7pm on a Wednesday. Upon entering the auditorium, I was handed a program detailing the ceremony format (Usu cha Tana temae). The program had three different types of languages displayed: English, Hiragana/ Katakana and Kanji. Having no prior knowledge of what a tea ceremony entails, I was excited to be a part of the experience. Prior to the formal ceremony beginning, the auditorium was alive with quiet chattering amongst the 50 patrons in attendance. The entire theater went quiet upon the dimming of the lights. The hostess, Mikiko Tanaka, entered the stage with a silent gentleness I have never seen before. Her stature was proper and she was dressed in authentic Japanese attire. Her formal guest, Genzo Tanaka was seated at a table on the left of the stage. For the next 30 minutes I watched, in complete silence save for a few short dialogue responses in Japanese between the hostess and guest, amazed at the grace and preciseness of the ritual. That silence, grace and preciseness was the first step outside of my cultural comfort zone during this experience. In American culture, rarely is anything quiet, delicate and precise. • 13. New Wave Cinema In David Cook s, A History of Narrative Film, it is said that the prevailing mode of postwar French cinema was literary adaption, which caused French films to become increasingly verbal and theatrical. It was against this tendency identified as the tradition of quality by Francois Truffaut and the other critics writing in Cashiers du Cinema, that the New Wave reacted in the late 1950 s and 1960 s. Camera stylo, which would permit the cinema to become a means of expression as supple and sbutle as that of written language and would therefore accord filmmakers the status of authors. Astruc s notion was to break away from the tyranny of narrative in order to evolve a new form of audiovisual language (Cook, 350). Astruc went on to describe how the problem of the cinema is how to express thought. The creation of this language has preoccupied all the theoreticians and writers in the history of cinema, from Einstein down to the script writers and adaptors of the sound cinema (Cook, 350). ... • 14. Summary Of The Wealth Of Nations By Adam Smith In the passage given, Adam Smith examines the different methods that can increase the production of land and labour. He discusses that production can be raised by using the methods of, division of labour and capital accumulation. Smith also provides evidence throughout The Wealth of Nations, proving that his method of labour division is the best way to develop the economy. The key behind Smith s writing is to prove how division of labour will improve economic progress. Initially, Smith proposes the idea of division of labour in the workplace. Division of labour is the separation of tasks to its rawest form, broken into specializations. He believes that this is the key to increase productivity and used the pin factory example to prove it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This allows for employees to work more efficiently since it helps them complete the task with ease. Along with the growth model, Smith attempts to prove that a market system is self regulating. He explains how the first step to a self regulating system is self interest. As humans, we thrive off of profit or any method of material gain from goods and services. This self interest is what initiates the system. The presence of competition keeps any one business from dominating the market. When there are multiple sellers of a good or service, consumers will often purchase the one that they can get at a more affordable price. This keeps competitors from raising their prices to gain a higher profit, since the consumer most often opts for the lowest priced item. The last factor to the self regulating system states that, changing desires of society lead producers to increase production of wanted goods and to diminish the production of goods that are no longer as highly desired (Heilbroner 50). Therefore, businesses must keep advancing their products in order to maintain relevance in the market. Society has expectations that business must achieve, hence they must have an ongoing development in their goods and service that adjust to the needs of the consumer. If they fail to do so, the product becomes obsolete, which causes businesses to shut down. There are many young girls selling themselves because they have to work to support their family. I had a personal experience with this issue when I took a trip down to Mexico with my cousins once. Diluting the urine is extremely important to decrease the number of possible irritants in the bladder causing inflammation in the bladder mucosa. One way to accomplish dilution is to feed a canned food by increasing water intake. Another way to increase water intake is to add a sodium supplementation, however this can be a problem in some cats especially ones with renal failure. Highly acidic diets are not recommended because acidic diets can increase pain perception in the bladder by stimulating the bladders nerves (Sanderson). Ensuring the diet is also low in magnesium will help alleviate the chances of forming crystals, some of which are made up of magnesium, therefore a low magnesium diet will prevent their formation. Also, ensuring the diet is high in protein will bring the urine pH to an optimum level (pH 5.9 6.3) as well as a low fat content, which is a contributing factor to feline lower urinary tract disease. Research on parenting also has shown that parent education is related to a warm, social climate in the home. Shumow and Miller (2001) described parental home involvement as those conversations between parent and child that focused on school experiences, while school involvement was conceptualized as parents availability for contact with the school. Epstein and Sanders (2002) looked at both direct behaviors, such as attending parent teacher conferences, and indirect behaviors, such as sharing educational expectations with the child. Research indicates that home involvement had greater impact on academic achievement (VanVoorhis, 2003), while regular parent child discussions about school and expectations had the greatest impact on educational outcomes of adolescents, including truancy and dropping out (McNeal, 1999). Klebanov et al. (1994) found that both mothers education and family income were important predictors of the physical environment and learning experiences in the home but that mothers education alone was predictive of parental warmth. Although parental involvement is an important contributor to children s positive school outcomes, much less is known about the factors that motivate parents involvement practices. Avvisati et al. I have learned in the past ways to do both; however, the ideas presented were very good ways for some people. Throughout this essay, I will discuss how to study effectively as well as how to take notes effectively. I will also what changes I have made to my routine for both. Note taking is an incredibly valuable skill, because with taking notes, you have nothing to reference when you are studying. One good way to take notes is by writing down keywords and follow them with brief descriptions. This strategy works well because you do not get lost in a mess of information when studying. Another way to study effectively is to reward yourself for learning a set of information. The other threat to society to Mill is that women have fewer rights then men such as voting he believes women should be allowed to have the same opportunities (John Stuart Mill; Alan Ryan, 2006). In this investigation, we were required to design our own self sustaining ecosystem, and monitor the changes in temperature and CO2 levels. We compared the outside temperature and CO2 levels, to those of our ecosystem. Self sustaining ecosystems are in the process of being designed tested, so that one day humans will be able to survive and thrive on other planets, like Mars. The outcome of our ecosystem was a failure, like all other previous attempts. Our ecosystem was too hot and had too higher CO2 levels, to be able to sustain the life of insects, and grow plants. This was because, we did not have enough fresh water, going into all the layers and fresh oxygen, as a result of no greenery growing. I believe, if we placed grown plants in our bottle at the start of our experiment, we would have had a very different outcome. Aim: In this practical we are going to investigate the CO2 and temperature changes from the outside environment, compared to our ecosystem in a bottle. We are also creating a fully self sustaining ecosystem in a bottle, which needs to grow a type of plant and provide a habitable environment for an insect/animal. Hypothesis: I believe that the temperature and CO2 levels inside our ecosystem will be a lot higher than outside the bottle. I also do not think that our insects or plants will survive and thrive, because there is not enough oxygen in the bottle, and it is too hot. Other groups that have plants and water in their bottle, will have lower CO2 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. What Does The Wanderer Mean Regrets and Old Age The poem, The Wanderer describes the sorrowful life of a lonely traveler whose kinsmen have been slaughtered and his Lord is deceased (line 1). The Wanderer is traveling a cruel journey sharing [his] bread with sorrow alone, an exile in every land, friendless and poor (lines 30 33). However, this lonely man was not physically exiled from every land for his possible wrongdoings, but he mentally exiled himself because of his old age and his regrets in life. The Wanderer proclaims that life is dark and twisted and reminders of the endless slaughters of a bloody past will reign until the end of time (lines 88 and 89). Although they sound like something straight out of science fiction, they come from an actual woman named Henrietta Lacks who was diagnosed with stage 4 cervical cancer. • 47. Argumentative Essay On White People We live in a society where white people have the upper hand in almost every circumstance. It is hard for most if not all white people to understand and comprehend this because privilege is hard to see for those who were born with access to power and resources (Kendall 1). White people aren t judged by the color of their skin or certain facial features they possess. Because of their looks, people of color, specifically black people get shot in the back for walking down the street or just simply fitting a description. Arab, middle eastern, and dark skinned south Asian people get accused of being terrorists. White people get to parade around the streets in their pickup trucks blasting Tim McGraw and their white hillbilly country music waving around multiple confederate flags, armed with loaded weapons, and wearing white hooded masks that look like a dunce cap covering their entire face which fits, because white people are a huge disappointment.
