Introduction of Indirect Taxing on Energy Drinks in France
This article discusses how France introduced an indirect tax on energy drinks at €1 per liter. The
tax was imposed to tackle alcohol consumption among France s young population and energy drinks
consumption due to its high levels of caffeine and sugar.
A form of government intervention, an indirect tax, a tax placed on consumption that is considered
indirect since households only pay then when they buy a good, affects the energy drinks market
outcomes.
Pertaining to the diagram above, previous to government intervention, the energy drinks market
was allocated purely by the forces of demand and supply1 with market equilibrium at PE
(original price) and QE (original quantity). After a tax of €1 per liter was imposed, the
equilibrium quantity of energy drinks produced and consumed decreased to Qtax, as the supply
curve shifted upwards to Stax . Furthermore, the price paid by consumers increased to Pc from
PE and price received by the energy drinks companies decreased to Pp from PE. In addition,
consumer expenditure on energy drinks decreased as well. Due to indirect tax, this changed from
(d+e+f+g+h) to (b+d+f+g) since consumers are purchasing less of the good as the price increased.
The company s revenue also decreased significantly from (d+e+f+g+h) to (f+g), as the quantity of
output decreased. However, the government received tax revenue of (b+d), increasing its budget.
Indirect tax on energy drinks ultimately results in underallocation of resources. Too little of

Infant Observations
The reading Some Remarks on Infant Observation, A. Freud , was very interesting as it was based
on the observation of newborns/infants and mother and infant relationship by students who are
training to be physicians and psychotherapist. The field of human development from a new born
baby throughout childhooddevelopment is focused on changing the way we think about children s
mind. The core of Ana Freud s theory is to gain solid understanding of what is normal in the
newborn infantperiod. Through observations the students were able to understand the mental life of
the baby and the exchanges of thoughts and feelings between infants and their mother.
I never worked with newborn/infants however, has a mother I can relate with the theory. As

How Did Domestic And Foreign Affairs Affect Politics In...
During the 1790s, domestic and foreign affairs were important towards the development of
American politics. Domestic affairs dealt with circumstances within the United States while foreign
affairs dealt with conditions concerning other countries. Hamilton s Financial Plan and the
interpretation of the Constitution are examples of domestic affairs that impacted politics in the
1790s. The French Revolution and Washington s farewell address were foreign affairs that also
impacted politics in the 1790s. Although both domestic and foreign affairs important to politics in
the 1790s. Whereas foreign affairs dealt outside of the country, domestic affairs hit directly towards
home and affected politics by developing two party systems and debates went on about different
interpretations on the Constitution.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One domestic affair that played a huge role in the development in politics was Alexander Hamilton
s Financial Plan. Hamilton s Financial Plan was created as an attempt to fix America s debt issues
as well as other things such as creating the National Bank. Thomas Jefferson, as well as many other
Democratic Republicans believed Hamilton s plan to be unconstitutional. Even though many
Democratic Republicans opposed Hamilton s plan, Hamilton argued that his plan was a national
blessing. After many debates Hamilton s plan was officially passed, but there was still conflict
concerning the National Bank. Jefferson felt that the National Bank was unconstitutional, while
Hamilton did not see a problem with it. Another domestic affair was different views on the
Constitution. Jefferson believed in a strict interpretation of the Constitution while Hamilton
believed in a loose interpretation of the Constitution. Due to the different beliefs of Hamilton and
Jefferson, two party systems were formed, leaving a lasting impact on

The American Of Canadian Foreign Relations
Over the course of history Canada has engaged in social, political, economic and cultural relations
with various countries. Managing relationships and foreign policy are key elements in Canadian
foreign policy. These relationships and policies have taken many different shapes and forms as
expected, and thus, the history of Canadian foreign relations is a significant part of Canadas identity
as a nation today. In particular, one aspect that is often analyzed on this topic is the how the
Americans failed to conquer Canada. One can only imagine how different Canada would be if
certain battles favoured the Americans. It is evident, that the Americans failure to conquer Canada
was a result of poor war tactics and military conduct at crucial points in time. The Americans were
not fully prepared to conquer Canada as a whole, and underestimated the Canadians in terms of
their war capabilities, loyalty and readiness for war. The Americans also naively believed they could
take advantage and attack the British during the American Revolution.
An important period to consider is 1775 1783 where crucial battles and victories emerged for
Canada against the Americans. In December of 1975, the Americans decided to attack Quebec,
what is known and referred to as the Battle of Quebec in the American Revolutionary War. The
purpose or motive of the invasion was to incorporate Quebec into the thirteen colonies. This would
ultimately prove to be a failure for the Americans, which is discussed

The Fall Of The Berlin Wall
The Year That Changed The World
In The Year That Changed The World tells the first hand experience of the Fall of the Berlin Wall.
The main factor in the collapse of the wall was the never ending fight of the individuals who had
fallen under the communist state. Most of these individuals came together and fought in order to
achieve their goal of a non communist state and German unification. The Cold Warwas the conflict
between the Eastern bloc (Communist) against the Western Bloc (Capitalist), the separation
between them began to be known as the Iron Curtain. The Berlin Wall was physical representation
of the war for most people, a city divided into two. This important part of history led to the
beginning of the Cold War period and the end. The fall of the Berlin Wall made 1989 the year that
changed the world. In The Year That Changed the World Meyer conveys that success is easily
accomplished in cooperation rather than separation.
Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall! President Ronald Reagan s famous expression, when he last
visited Berlin in 1987, as a clear call to bring the Cold War to an end. According to the United
States, we had won, so this side of history goes; because Ronald Reagan stood his ground against
the Soviet Union, America had toppled the communist empire. Michael Meyer, a reporter who was
in Eastern Europe at the time for Newsweek, has a different side.
Meyer creates a compelling report of the revolutions that occurred in Eastern Europe in the years

Presentation Of Grand Prix Show Jumping
Grand Prix show jumping is a physically and emotionally challenging sport for both the horse
and rider. The purpose of this paper is to inform the reader about Grand Prix Show Jumping. The
following information will answer questions regarding six topics. This research paper will
provide a brief history of Show Jumping, and explain why it started. Second, it will describe what
Show Jumping requires and what Show Jumping is. Third, it will tell where Show Jumping
occurs. Fourth, it will state how Show Jumping has changed. Fifth, it will share who the athletes
are today and who the top horses and riders are at the Grand Prix level. Sixth, it will inform the
reader of when Grand Prix events take place. The Grand Prix is the highest and most difficult level
of Show Jumping. This sport requires that the horses be in excellent physical condition. Jumping at
high levels puts a lot of strain on their joints and tendons, so it is important not to overwork them.
With so much strain on their bodies, one false step could result in injury. Show Jumping originated
in Europe. During the Middle Ages, the Greeks included jumping horses in their military exercise.
A three day event occurred that reflected the range of challenges horses faced in the army. In
England, Show Jumping was derived from fox hunting. Throughout the eighteenth century, Great
Britain passed Enclosure Acts, meaning that wealthy owners of land could build stone walls along
their property lines. Fox hunters adapted and

The Amendment Of The Voting Rights Act
Thus, when faced with arbitrary legislative action or inaction, judicial intervention is not only
appropriate but essential to protect citizens constitutional rights. Furthermore, when the Court
resolves constitutional questions that, for whatever reasons, elected representatives, cannot, its
rulings can guide lower courts, legislators, and citizens concerning the scope of individual rights
and permissibility of governmental conduct. When the Court applies the standing doctrine
regardless of legislative inertia or entrenchment, some citizens are left with rights but no remedies
and a government that is unaccountable and unresponsive to its citizens. This was precisely the
point that Justice Scalia made in Shelby County, and most likely why the Court refused to defer to
Congress despite overwhelming support for re authorization of the Voting Rights Act. Noting that
they [Senators] are going to lose votes if they do not reenact the Voting Rights Act, and suggesting
that the Act would be reenacted in perpetuity unless ... unless a court can say it does not comport
with the Constitution, Justice Scalia recognized the necessity for judicial intervention in this
situation. The same principle should be applied when politically powerless citizens seek to
challenge the constitutionality of law and redress through the democratic process is nothing but an
exercise in futility. To deny such citizens standing where they assert a legally cognizable harm, are

some of the primary sources listed in his bibliography. He also incorporates historical secondary
works. It is this variety of sources used by Anderson that gives the reader an understanding that
goes above and beyond just the life of Little Crow. According to Paul Stuart in American History
Review, Using an array of manuscript anti published primary sources, Anderson has produced a
sensitive portrayal of Little Crow s life and of Dakota society during the mid nineteenth century.
William K. Powers also agrees that Anderson paints Little Crow in a way that has never been done

Embryonic vs. Adult Stem Cells in Research Essay
Embryonic vs. Adult Stem Cells in Research
Why is the mainstream media significantly downplaying exciting scientific discoveries with adult
stem cells? This essay hopes to adequately answer that question.
Here s the scoop: As originally reported late last year in the medical journal Blood, Dr. Catherine
M. Verfaillie and other researchers at the StemCell Institute, University of Minnesota, have
discovered a way to coax an adult cell found in the bone marrow to exhibit many of the attributes
that supposedly make embryonic stem cells irreplaceable to the development future miracle medical
therapies(Catherine).

Yet, when the potentially crucial discovery of an adult cell that could make embryonic destruction
and therapeutic cloning unnecessary comes to light and just at the time when the United States
Senate is about to argue whether to outlaw the cloning of human embryos the story has been
significantly underplayed.
The New York Timesstory written by Nicholas Wade with Sheryl Gay Stolberg ran deep inside
the paper (page A14), under the headline, Scientists Herald a Versatile Adult Cell. (New) While the
Times headline and reporting focused upon the actual story, it failed to provide many of the
significant details found in the Boston Globe reporting, and as a result, the story lost much of its
punch.
The Washington Post smothered the importance of the story altogether in a story bylined by Rick
Weiss that ran on page A 8. Headlined, In Senate, Findings Intensify Arguments on Human
Cloning, the actual discovery itself is barely described. The first mention of it comes in the fourth
paragraph, which focuses primarily on a statement by Verfaillie downplaying her own discovery so
as not to interfere with the pro cloning and ESCR research agenda. Indeed, the primary thrust of the
Post reportage focuses on the reasons why this discovery should not deter destructive embryonic
research.
The story was also covered by relative brief wire service reports and in a much better story in New
Scientist magazine(New). In any event, with such muffled coverage, it is

The Use Of Recombinant Human Bone Morphogenetic Proteins
Introduction: Regeneration has been defined as the reproduction or reconstitution of a lost or
injured part to restore the architecture and function of the periodontium. To be considered a
regenerative modality, a material or technique must histologically demonstrate that bone, cementum
and a functional periodontal ligament (a new attachment apparatus) can be formed on a previously
diseased root surface. Bone grafts and their synthetic substitutes have been used in an attempt to
gain this therapeutic endpoint. However, among the graft materials to date, only autogenous bone
of extraoral or intraoral sources and demineralized freeze dried bone allograft have human
histological evidence to include them as regenerative materials. More recently the use of
recombinant human bone morphogenetic proteins (BMP) 2 (Ishikawa et al. 1994), enamel matrix
derivative (EMD) (Sculean et al. 1999), platelet rich plasma (PRP) (Anitua et al. 2004), growth
factors like platelet derived growth factor (PDGF) and insulin like growth factor 1 (IGF 1) (Lynch
et al. 1989) and recombinant human basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) (Murakami et al. 2003)
have been proposed as a source for periodontal regeneration. Initial investigation has demonstrated
that anorganic bovine bone matrix supports the attachment and proliferation of osteoblastic cells in
vitro (Stephan et al. 1999). Indeed, human histologic studies have concluded that this bone
substitute is osteoconductive and incorporated in new bone

Machiavellian Villain Research Paper
The Machiavellian Villain Shakespeare s early plays deal with historical moments from the
English throne. His morality and revenge plays can be seen as historical records of kings who
are legitimate or illegitimate to rule Britain. These plays represent the influence of Niccolo
Machiavelli s The Prince on Shakespeare. Shakespeare s early plays explore the idea of a
Machiavellian villain of Elizabethan drama. According to Charles Ross, the term Machiavellian
is used to describe the actions of a political leader who ignores claims of conscience and instead
justifies the ends by the means (317). The political leader is more concerned about his political
expediency that is above morality and takes advantage of his authority and power. Shakespeare s
Richard III considers as the most Machiavellian villain of the morality plays. Shakespeare
concentrates on the transformation of Richard into Machiavellian character because of the crown
of England. Richard is a significant figure in the historical plays whose behavior shows that he is

In this experiment concerning the activity of enzymes we tested the different effects of various
concentrations, pH, Temperature, and Inhibitors over intervals of time. For the effects of
concentration of enzyme extract, or peroxidase we mixed six of seven tubes to get three different

positively or negatively affect the activity of the enzyme, in which we predicted that the

The steady decline of profits over the last decade clearly shows that JC Penney has steadily lost
its identity among consumers. The people in charge at JC Penney have not done a noteworthy
job of presenting a clear brand image to consumers. Endless coupons and other gimmicks that
have fallen flat have muddled it. Marketing research is not about how many TV commercials or
ads a company runs it s about how well the target market is understood. When JC Penney, lead by
Ron Johnson, tried to turn around its failing business model took away the very thing that kept
their customers coming back. This move clearly showed Ron Johnson s lack of understanding of
what motivated JC Penney customers. By thinking that he could recalibrate the way shoppers
looked at JC Penney with a simple branding refresh, he forgot the central rule when it comes to

Even when everybody knows that prices are overinflated to cover deep discounts in sale
environments, the customer is always right. There is no way around that rule. (Buffett,

The Role Of The Nurse Manager In NHS Scotland
Within NHS Scotland, the Nurse Manager role is afforded an array of designations such as
Clinical Nurse Manager, Head of Nursing, Lead Nurse, and Service Manager. The role is routinely
referred to as a leadership and management role and is cited as within the echelons of middle
management (NES 2014; The Scottish Government Workforce Directorate 2009). A concept
analysis of the NurseManager role identified a significant absence of Scottish based literature. This
leaves one to conjecture that the role has emerged within NHS Scotland in an ad hoc manner, being
highly dependent on locality drivers, and with no formally agreed definition of role.
The lack of role definition combined with significant expansion of the Nurse Manager role and its
associated responsibilities is argued to have increased the plethora of designations within the global
nursing field (Cathcart et al 2010). Stateside, The American Organization of Nurse Executives

Operations Management s Incentive Programs
Incentive Programs And Their Effect On Operations Management In spite of numerous assertions
concerning the putative significance, there has been small experimental appraisal of incentive
stipulation for workers. Because it is assumed that the interests of workers and their employers are
not all the time equal, a grand conceptual literature has accentuated how firms map compensation
agreements to persuade employees to work so as to obtain the firm s desired objectives. Like the
piece rates, efficiency wages, options, promotions, profit sharing, discretionary bonuses, deferred
compensation, and others. There is an assumption that people acknowledge to agreements that
compensate performance. Thus, to state whether or not the agreements look like the theory of
forecasts. Firms give incentives to workers by way of the compensation applications of firms,
circuitously observing, assessing, and agreeing, and applying various gadgets to put in line the
objectives. A few workers like the employees that work in the sales department are principally
rewarded due to their pains by way of clear cut agreements that link the rewards to espied
standards of performance. While it is also observed that other employees are rewarded but not on
the personal standards of performance in contrast on more combined standards. These standards
may be like the one having the profit sharing attributes. Nonetheless, various employers abstain

Review Of The Devil s Arithmetic By Jane Yolen
I remember when I was in the eighth grade, the entire class was assigned a project revolving
around the Holocaust: each rotation of classes brought us all into the next level of this month long
project. In one class, we made scale models of what we thought would be a proper shelter for
hiding in and in another, we read Holocaust era literature, such as Anne Franks Diary and Eli Wiesel
s Night. In what was normally our History class, we watched and read The Devil s Arithmetic.
Written by Jane Yolen, the story follows that of a young girl whose family is experiencing Passover.

their business environments and the salient issues that may affect the operations of their
organizations both within and outside so as to be able to proffer absolute and sustainable solution

One of such issues is Gender Equality. A complete and unbiased definition of gender equality as

Argumentative Essay On Teen Abortion

Teen Abortions aren t Always a Bad Thing
Imagine it is late at night, and you are walking home from a friend s house. It s very dark and
you can t really see what s going on until all of a sudden, this random man grabs you and throws
you into the back of his car. That same night this man rapes and sexually abuses you. Later on, you
find out that you are pregnant by this man and you don t want to keep it, but everyone around you
is telling you that you shouldn t get an abortion because you would then be labeled as killing your
child. Now you are stuck debating whether or not you want to give birth to a baby that wouldn t
be here if you weren t raped that night you were walking home from your friend s house. One of
the biggest dilemmas in today s time is whether or not teen abortions should be legal. Every year,
more than 50% of babies that are conceived, come into the world unwanted (Guttmacher). Whether
it is from the mother being raped, abused, not wanting their parents to find out, not wanting
everyone to know that they had sex, or even just the thought of the fact that she is a child raising a
child. Therefore, all teens should be allowed to have an abortion for many different reasons without
being told they are murdering their child.
Abortions became a political debate after the court case of Roe v Wade legalized abortions in 1973.
In the 1973 case of Roe v. Wade, the U.S Supreme court ruled that the woman has

Adjacency Paper
Humans have a fundamental need to belong and have social relationships, and therefore form
groups to fulfill these basic human needs (Baumeister

Leary, 1995). The tendency to
gravitate to similar individuals when building social ties is a well known feature of human
behaviour, and is referred to as homophily (McPherson et al., 2001). It is possible that the tendency
for homophily within populations, particularly the perception of physical similarity, influences
seating preference more frequently than expected by chance in day to day social interactions
(Mackinnon, Jordan, Wilson, 2011). This increases the chances of interacting with similar others
and decreases the chances of interacting with dissimilar others simply based on proximity.... Show

This means that the converse is true: if not sitting beside women, men must be sitting beside
other men, or alone entirely, which will lead to a positive index of adjacency. The index of
adjacency cannot, however, determine whether the effect is driven primarily by men or women,
only that they tend to avoid sitting beside each other. Thus, if my hypotheses are supported, the
index of adjacency scores will be less than zero, overall. A two tailed t tests, comparing the mean
index of adjacency scores to determine if there is a significant difference between the means will
be used to test the hypotheses. An adjacency will be defined only as a person sitting directly beside

Many people nowadays are practicing healthier lifestyles. This has affected the non alcoholic
beverage industry in that many are switching to bottled water and diet colas instead of beer and
other alcoholic beverages. The need for bottled water and other more convenient and healthy
products are in important in the average day to day life. Possible substitutes that continuously put
pressure on Coke include tea, coffee, juices, milk and hot chocolate.
Consumers from the ages of 37 to 55 are also increasingly concerned with nutrition. There is a
large population of the age range known as the baby boomers. Since many are reaching an older
age in life they are becoming more concerned with increasing their longevity. This will continue to
affect the non alcoholic beverage industry by increasing the demand overall and in the healthier
beverages.
Increasing awareness among consumers, public health professionals and government agencies of
the potential health problems associated with obesity and inactive lifestyles represents a significant
challenge to the Coca Cola industry. The company has recognized that obesity is a complex public

Willy Loman Foil
Foil in Death of a Salesman In the play, Death of a Salesman, Arthur Miller establishes Charley, a
humble and successful salesman as the foil to Willy Loman, a prideful and arrogant man.
Charley is the perfect character to help depict Willy s flaws. Although the two contrast with
each other, their characteristics help maintain a balance between them. Willy Loman lives in
his own world, where he believes that in order to be successful, one must be well liked with a
great appearance. The man who makes an appearance...is the man who gets ahead (Miller 1568).
These are obvious words from Willy which proves that he does not believe in hard work. He
instills within both of his children that looks and personality are all that matters. The
characteristics of Willy allow us to grasp the idea that he lives within a false reality. He is a man
living within a child s fantasy based off of the life of Dave Singleman. The very words he spoke
against his neighbor Charley and his son, Bernard, are the very words that prove him wrong.

Symbols In Lord Of The Flies
Many people seamlessly pass by objects not thinking much of them; in stories they re just as
easily overlooked but can hold great meanings and tell stories on their own. Symbolism in
stories is commonly shown through objects and is meant to represent something outside its

as power, intelligence, and hope. The conch, the glasses, and fire ironically ended up being the

Visual distraction of this nature is anything that requires the driver to take his or her eyes away
from the road. Manual distraction involves the driver removing his or her hands from the steering
wheel. Cognitive distraction forces the driver to think about something other than driving safely
(Goldfarb, 2010). These skills are critical when safely operating a motor vehicle that requires
concentration, coordination, and prompt, immediate responses to sensory input.
Studies conducted from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the
AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety shows that using a cell phone while driving significantly
impairs a driver s reaction time and triples the risk of being involved in a crash or near crash, and
text messaging increases crash risk by a multiple of 8 for all ages (NHTSA, 2009). Situational
awareness is significantly decreased while engaging in distracted driving, and in turn inattention
blindness is increased drastically creating a potentially deadly situation on the roads. A driver who
is multitasking has less brain function available and thus literally fails to see or pay attention to
things that are squarely in the field of vision (Texting and Driving, 2010). On the other hand there

Essay on Racism in Disney Films
What images come to mind as one reflects upon his or her childhood? Playgrounds, blackboards,
and soccer balls may be among the fondest of memories. Yet, for many, mermaids swim their
thoughts, princesses get swept off their feet, and lions roar to their royal place in the animal
kingdom. Disney films have captivated the American culture for years and have become a pivotal
part of popular culture as well as a form of education. However, these films have devoured the
youth of America and, in the process; have perpetuated an institutionally racist society based on
harsh stereotypes. Minorities are often underrepresented, and even completely left out, of many

According to Carl Hiaasen, The secret weapon is trust. Disney is the most trusted brand name in
the history of marketing. It hooks us when we re little and never lets go; this unshakeable faith
that Disney is the best at knowing what s best. (13) It is time that this myth be shattered. As far
back as 1946, racial stereotyping of African Americans has been evident in Disney films. For
instance, in the American classic Dumbo, the crows depict the typical southern African American
with a slow pattern of speech. In Jungle Book (1967) the monkeys with African American voices
are jiving in a crazy manner because they will never be real men and will always be animals. One
of the most tragic examples of this racism can be seen in the movie Tarzan. In the original making
of the movie, the white man comes to the rescue and tames all of the animals and natives. However,
in the new Disney version of Tarzan (1999), the blacks that obviously inhabit Africa were
completely eliminated and replaced by gorillas with African American voices. African American
children whom view these films have no choice but to resort to relating to these often unintelligent,
inferior animals because that is where they hear themselves. In Mickey Mouse Monopoly, children
were asked if they could think of any black characters in Disney films, sadly they came up short of
a single one. It

Importance Of Storage Systems And The Cost Model
On the Importance of Evaluating Storage Systems $Costs
HotStorage 2014. Zhichao Li, Amanpreet Mukker, and Erez Zadok Stony Brook University
Summary
Author talks about the complexity of the storage system. Storage system is categorized by
performance, energy efficiency, durability and many more. There is a need to evaluate the storage
system with the cost perspective. Cost model was built and the system was evaluated through
various workloads and parameters. Digital data has been growing rapidly and in order to satisfy the
needs of more storage and one need to save the longer data storage cost. This study to evaluate the
storage system was carried on by developing a device mapper which was the combination of HDD
and SSD for Linux kernel where SSD can either be used as a cache or as a storage of hot data.
Behavior of the system was measured under various configuration. Moreover, a cost model was
built which covered different aspects like energy, power costs, replacement costs and much more.
SSD proved out to be very costly as a short term solution but less costly in the long run. SSD was
used as a cache for some workloads which was less costly than using it as a hot storage. There
were few results obtained which showed that for few workloads, SSD is the only possible
solutions which seems to be costly when seen for the short term but it proves out to be cheap when
considered in the long run. It s very important that the future storage is evaluated on the basis of

Tax Base Miami
Tax Base Miami MLA People living in Miami are in the face of danger, and for the most part
they are not aware of it. Due to high population, Miami is the fourth largest city to become
affected by sea level rise. (Ankum et al.) In the next 32 50 years, sea level is expected to rise by
as much as two feet. (Ankum et al.) This two foot rise will have detrimental effects on the urban
settings of Miami. The amount of soil erosion that is undergoing at our beaches will greatly
increase if a two foot rise occurs. At a four foot rise, road connectivity would begin to become
affected. At a six foot rise, Southern Floridawould no longer be habitable as it would, for the most
part, be underwater. Not much is being invested in mitigation efforts, most of what is being done
are short term solutions. Instead of coming up with ideas to prevent and try to slow down the
effects of climate change on our environment, we are focusing on ideas such as building up a sea
wall, relocating power plants, and redesigning structures. Climate isn t the only thing changing,
our environments are changing too. Our lakes are becoming polluted and eutrophic (Scavia et
al.), which causes the overgrowth of algae and death of many of the species found within the
lakes. Here in Miami, water has an important role in the value of housing by real estate buyers.

Constitutional. These three classifications and tests help in cases involving race, ethnicity, and
religion, gender, and economic status and age. They include the Suspect Classification and the
Strict Scrutiny Test, the Quasi Suspect Classifications and the Heightened Scrutiny Test, and the
Rational Basis Test. To begin with, the suspect classification works alongside the strict scrutiny test.
The suspect classification falls into play when a law is possibly considered unconstitutional
because it categorizes a person based upon their race, ethnicity,

How Does Shakespeare Use Jealousy In Othello
In Othello, Shakespeare uses lying and murder to show how powerful emotions can be. During
the play, characters use extreme actions to cope with their emotions. Iago lies to Othello and plots
to have Cassio murdered; Roderigo listens to anything Iago says in order to get with Desdemona;
and Othello decides to kill Desdemona out of rage once he believes she is cheating on him. It is
important to note Shakespeare utilizes both envy and jealousywhich people commonly misinterpret
as the same. Envy is wanting what someone else has, while jealousy is fearing that someone else
will take what you have. Throughout Othello, the power of envy, manipulation, and jealousy can be
seen through the actions of Iago, Othello, and various other characters.
Envy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He has no regard for the other characters well being as his envy is so strong. Roderigo is another
character that experiences envy. Roderigo wants to be with Desdemona, but Desdemona is
married to Othello. Roderigo is willing to do anything that gives him a chance to be with
Desdemona. Iago is able to convince Roderigo to sell all of his assets for money, instigate a fight
with Cassio, and attempt to murder Cassio, because his envy is able to overpower his rational
thought. The envy of Iago and Roderigo is what causes the rest of the play to commence. Iago
manipulates others in order to take his envy out on others, while Roderigo is able to be manipulated
easily as envy clouds his judgement. This manipulation is another important aspect of the play.
Iago uses manipulation throughout the play in an attempt to get revenge on Othello and to
progress the plot. He is able to manipulate several of the characters in the play as he is very
persuasive. Iago first manipulates Roderigo as he is an easy target. He convinces him that he has
a chance to be with Desdemona reasoning that she fell in love with Othello quickly, so she will
fall out of love with him quickly. Iago is able to convince Roderigo to sell his assets and help him
get revenge

Testing the Effects of Radiation on Plants
Abstract
The purpose of this lab was to see if radiation has an effect on the cultivated radish seeds that we
used. From the observed data that we collected, we were able to conclude that when seeds are
exposed to radiation, it affects how they grow, if there is any growth at all.
Introduction Radiation is an important environmental abiotic factor for plants, and one small
section of the electromagnetic radiation spectrum, is called the Photosynthetically Active Radiation
(PAR), provides the energy to drive the light reactions of photosynthesis. Such radiation damages
biological tissues by detaching electrons from the atoms that make up organic molecules. The
results include radiation poisoning, cancer, and elevated mutation ... Show more content on
Helpwriting.net ...
The 50 mrad radish seed never experienced any growth. The 150 mrad radish seed shot up about 4
cm the first week and then the second and third week stayed at the same height. From these
observations we can tell that there was a significant difference between the control and the radish
seeds that were inflected with radiation. The ones that contained radiation either experienced no
growth at all, experienced stunted growth, and were never as tall as the control. I reject both null
hypothesizes, and fail to reject both alternative hypothesizes since the radiation did prove to have
an effect on the radish seeds.
Conclusion
From the obtained data, we were able to fail to reject the alternate hypothesizes. Gamma radiation
levels had effects on the radish seeds. We were able to determine these levels by comparing these
results to the control which was just a radish seed that was never altered by any radiation for as far
as we know.

Kidney Transplant Surgery
Last week I read the article, Transplant surgery Kidney transplant. I found this on the website,
Transplantation Surgery University of California San Francisco, and it was written by The
University of California. The article that I read was 9 pages long back to back. This article was
about kidney transplants. The reason that I chose this article is because it seemed interesting to
learn about, and because I want to learn more about different types of surgery out their and what
there like. Kidneydisease is a major health issue in the US affecting more than 8 million
American citizens. When a person s kidney drops down to a certain level patients are required to
get either a dialysis or a kidney transplant to save their life. A dialysis... Show more content on

tests all vary by age, cause, gender and other medical needs. Finally, when all the tests are done
they do the transplant surgery. This surgery is done under general anesthesia. This operation

Undertale Essay
Game Analysis: Undertale (2015)
In Undertale the combat system is very unique in comparison to other games by being a mix of
a Shoot em up game and a turn based RPG. Once a player enters combat through a random
encounter in the overworld they are greeted with a screen showing the enemies sprite and at the
bottom of the screen 4 different options for them to pick; fight, act, item and mercy. Once it is
the enemy s turn to attack the player A box will appear with a player controlled heart symbol in
the centre, then different things will appear in the box that the player must avoid or they will take
damage. If the player chooses the fight command they will be shown a bar at the bottom of the
screen with a bar moving across the screen. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The game has a simple pixel art style which works quite well as it is meant to resemble a game
that would be for the NES or SNES. The characters in battle are always in black and white with a
simple black background which as a design choice works quite well as it doesn t distract the player
from dodging the enemies attacks and makes sure there s no way they can mistake any background
element for an attack they must dodge.
The enemy designs in the game are very unique and interesting, often representing some kind of
character trope, for example there is an enemy in the game named Aaron that is a horse with a
mermaid s tail that is obsessed with his muscles. When Aaron attacks the player, the player must
move out of the way from 2 arms on the side of the box that come up from the bottom. Every
monster in the game has specialised attacks like this, for example there is an enemy that has an
obsession with cleaning and his attack is water droplets flowing out from the middle of the screen
that the player has to avoid. This is a good design decision as it adds depth and intrigue to the
characters in an extremely simple way which will make the player interested to see what other
attacks the monsters

The 14th Amendment Essay
The 14th Amendment
The 14th Amendment provides that no government shall take away the individual right to life,
liberty, and property, within its jurisdiction, without due process of law.
Equal Protection Clause
No state may deprive any individual of the equal protection of the law.
Generally, the statutory classification provided by Congress is presumptively valid, unless such a
classification is considered suspect. The classification touches upon race or ethnicity of citizens falls
within one of the suspect categories. The Court stated that all racial classifications, imposed by
whatever federal, state, or local governmental actor, must be analyzed by a reviewing court under
strict scrutiny. Adarand Constructors, Inc. v. Pena, 515 U.S. 200 (1995). Thus, suspect
classifications are presumed to be void and subjected to heightened scrutiny.
Here, Congress enacted a statute forbidding private clubs that accept state officials as members or
guests from discriminating against citizens seeking the membership ... Show more content on

A benign discrimination may be justified where the distinction is used for remedial purposes of
desegregation. The statute is crafted to ban the exclusion of other racial groups and afford them the
membership eligibility. This would serve its remedial purpose of abolishing pre existing
discrimination. In addition, it has been established historically that white males represent the class
that is socially most advantaged: They do not belong to a discrete insular minority; thus, the impact
of the statute cannot be said to have been placed on a minority group. As the court held in Hunter,
where the discriminatory law s impact falls on minority, it will be under strict scrutiny and the
majority needs no protection against discrimination. Hunter v. Erickson, 393 U.S. 385

  • 2. Introduction of Indirect Taxing on Energy Drinks in France This article discusses how France introduced an indirect tax on energy drinks at €1 per liter. The tax was imposed to tackle alcohol consumption among France s young population and energy drinks consumption due to its high levels of caffeine and sugar. A form of government intervention, an indirect tax, a tax placed on consumption that is considered indirect since households only pay then when they buy a good, affects the energy drinks market outcomes. Pertaining to the diagram above, previous to government intervention, the energy drinks market was allocated purely by the forces of demand and supply1 with market equilibrium at PE (original price) and QE (original quantity). After a tax of €1 per liter was imposed, the equilibrium quantity of energy drinks produced and consumed decreased to Qtax, as the supply curve shifted upwards to Stax . • 5. The American Of Canadian Foreign Relations Over the course of history Canada has engaged in social, political, economic and cultural relations with various countries. Managing relationships and foreign policy are key elements in Canadian foreign policy. These relationships and policies have taken many different shapes and forms as expected, and thus, the history of Canadian foreign relations is a significant part of Canadas identity as a nation today. In particular, one aspect that is often analyzed on this topic is the how the Americans failed to conquer Canada. One can only imagine how different Canada would be if certain battles favoured the Americans. It is evident, that the Americans failure to conquer Canada was a result of poor war tactics and military conduct at crucial points in time. The Americans were not fully prepared to conquer Canada as a whole, and underestimated the Canadians in terms of their war capabilities, loyalty and readiness for war. The Americans also naively believed they could take advantage and attack the British during the American Revolution. An important period to consider is 1775 1783 where crucial battles and victories emerged for Canada against the Americans. In December of 1975, the Americans decided to attack Quebec, what is known and referred to as the Battle of Quebec in the American Revolutionary War. The purpose or motive of the invasion was to incorporate Quebec into the thirteen colonies. This would ultimately prove to be a failure for the Americans, which is discussed ... The main factor in the collapse of the wall was the never ending fight of the individuals who had fallen under the communist state. Most of these individuals came together and fought in order to achieve their goal of a non communist state and German unification. The Cold Warwas the conflict between the Eastern bloc (Communist) against the Western Bloc (Capitalist), the separation between them began to be known as the Iron Curtain. The Berlin Wall was physical representation of the war for most people, a city divided into two. This important part of history led to the beginning of the Cold War period and the end. The fall of the Berlin Wall made 1989 the year that changed the world. In The Year That Changed the World Meyer conveys that success is easily accomplished in cooperation rather than separation. Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall! President Ronald Reagan s famous expression, when he last visited Berlin in 1987, as a clear call to bring the Cold War to an end. • 14. The Use Of Recombinant Human Bone Morphogenetic Proteins Introduction: Regeneration has been defined as the reproduction or reconstitution of a lost or injured part to restore the architecture and function of the periodontium. To be considered a regenerative modality, a material or technique must histologically demonstrate that bone, cementum and a functional periodontal ligament (a new attachment apparatus) can be formed on a previously diseased root surface. Bone grafts and their synthetic substitutes have been used in an attempt to gain this therapeutic endpoint. However, among the graft materials to date, only autogenous bone of extraoral or intraoral sources and demineralized freeze dried bone allograft have human histological evidence to include them as regenerative materials. More recently the use of recombinant human bone morphogenetic proteins (BMP) 2 (Ishikawa et al. 1994), enamel matrix derivative (EMD) (Sculean et al. 1999), platelet rich plasma (PRP) (Anitua et al. 2004), growth factors like platelet derived growth factor (PDGF) and insulin like growth factor 1 (IGF 1) (Lynch et al. 1989) and recombinant human basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) (Murakami et al. 2003) have been proposed as a source for periodontal regeneration. One of the biggest dilemmas in today s time is whether or not teen abortions should be legal. Every year, more than 50% of babies that are conceived, come into the world unwanted (Guttmacher). Whether it is from the mother being raped, abused, not wanting their parents to find out, not wanting everyone to know that they had sex, or even just the thought of the fact that she is a child raising a child. Therefore, all teens should be allowed to have an abortion for many different reasons without being told they are murdering their child. Abortions became a political debate after the court case of Roe v Wade legalized abortions in 1973. In the 1973 case of Roe v. Wade, the U.S Supreme court ruled that the woman has ... Leary, 1995). The tendency to gravitate to similar individuals when building social ties is a well known feature of human behaviour, and is referred to as homophily (McPherson et al., 2001). It is possible that the tendency for homophily within populations, particularly the perception of physical similarity, influences seating preference more frequently than expected by chance in day to day social interactions (Mackinnon, Jordan, Wilson, 2011). This increases the chances of interacting with similar others and decreases the chances of interacting with dissimilar others simply based on proximity.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These skills are critical when safely operating a motor vehicle that requires concentration, coordination, and prompt, immediate responses to sensory input. Studies conducted from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety shows that using a cell phone while driving significantly impairs a driver s reaction time and triples the risk of being involved in a crash or near crash, and text messaging increases crash risk by a multiple of 8 for all ages (NHTSA, 2009). It hooks us when we re little and never lets go; this unshakeable faith that Disney is the best at knowing what s best. (13) It is time that this myth be shattered. As far back as 1946, racial stereotyping of African Americans has been evident in Disney films. For instance, in the American classic Dumbo, the crows depict the typical southern African American with a slow pattern of speech. In Jungle Book (1967) the monkeys with African American voices are jiving in a crazy manner because they will never be real men and will always be animals. One of the most tragic examples of this racism can be seen in the movie Tarzan. In the original making of the movie, the white man comes to the rescue and tames all of the animals and natives. However, in the new Disney version of Tarzan (1999), the blacks that obviously inhabit Africa were completely eliminated and replaced by gorillas with African American voices. African American children whom view these films have no choice but to resort to relating to these often unintelligent, inferior animals because that is where they hear themselves. • 48. Testing the Effects of Radiation on Plants Abstract The purpose of this lab was to see if radiation has an effect on the cultivated radish seeds that we used. From the observed data that we collected, we were able to conclude that when seeds are exposed to radiation, it affects how they grow, if there is any growth at all. Introduction Radiation is an important environmental abiotic factor for plants, and one small section of the electromagnetic radiation spectrum, is called the Photosynthetically Active Radiation (PAR), provides the energy to drive the light reactions of photosynthesis. Such radiation damages biological tissues by detaching electrons from the atoms that make up organic molecules. The results include radiation poisoning, cancer, and elevated mutation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The 50 mrad radish seed never experienced any growth. The 150 mrad radish seed shot up about 4 cm the first week and then the second and third week stayed at the same height. From these observations we can tell that there was a significant difference between the control and the radish seeds that were inflected with radiation. The ones that contained radiation either experienced no growth at all, experienced stunted growth, and were never as tall as the control. I reject both null hypothesizes, and fail to reject both alternative hypothesizes since the radiation did prove to have an effect on the radish seeds. Conclusion From the obtained data, we were able to fail to reject the alternate hypothesizes. Gamma radiation levels had effects on the radish seeds. We were able to determine these levels by comparing these results to the control which was just a radish seed that was never altered by any radiation for as far as we know. Works Cited Glenn, S. I found this on the website, Transplantation Surgery University of California San Francisco, and it was written by The University of California. The article that I read was 9 pages long back to back. This article was about kidney transplants. The reason that I chose this article is because it seemed interesting to learn about, and because I want to learn more about different types of surgery out their and what there like. • 50. Undertale Essay Game Analysis: Undertale (2015) In Undertale the combat system is very unique in comparison to other games by being a mix of a Shoot em up game and a turn based RPG. Once a player enters combat through a random encounter in the overworld they are greeted with a screen showing the enemies sprite and at the bottom of the screen 4 different options for them to pick; fight, act, item and mercy. Once it is the enemy s turn to attack the player A box will appear with a player controlled heart symbol in the centre, then different things will appear in the box that the player must avoid or they will take damage. If the player chooses the fight command they will be shown a bar at the bottom of the screen with a bar moving across the screen. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The game has a simple pixel art style which works quite well as it is meant to resemble a game that would be for the NES or SNES. The characters in battle are always in black and white with a simple black background which as a design choice works quite well as it doesn t distract the player from dodging the enemies attacks and makes sure there s no way they can mistake any background element for an attack they must dodge. The enemy designs in the game are very unique and interesting, often representing some kind of character trope, for example there is an enemy in the game named Aaron that is a horse with a mermaid s tail that is obsessed with his muscles. When Aaron attacks the player, the player must move out of the way from 2 arms on the side of the box that come up from the bottom. Every monster in the game has specialised attacks like this, for example there is an enemy that has an obsession with cleaning and his attack is water droplets flowing out from the middle of the screen that the player has to avoid. This is a good design decision as it adds depth and intrigue to the characters in an extremely simple way which will make the player interested to see what other attacks the monsters ... • 51. The 14th Amendment Essay The 14th Amendment The 14th Amendment provides that no government shall take away the individual right to life, liberty, and property, within its jurisdiction, without due process of law. Equal Protection Clause No state may deprive any individual of the equal protection of the law. Generally, the statutory classification provided by Congress is presumptively valid, unless such a classification is considered suspect. The classification touches upon race or ethnicity of citizens falls within one of the suspect categories. The Court stated that all racial classifications, imposed by whatever federal, state, or local governmental actor, must be analyzed by a reviewing court under strict scrutiny. Adarand Constructors, Inc. v. Pena, 515 U.S. 200 (1995). Thus, suspect classifications are presumed to be void and subjected to heightened scrutiny. Here, Congress enacted a statute forbidding private clubs that accept state officials as members or guests from discriminating against citizens seeking the membership ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A benign discrimination may be justified where the distinction is used for remedial purposes of desegregation. The statute is crafted to ban the exclusion of other racial groups and afford them the membership eligibility. This would serve its remedial purpose of abolishing pre existing discrimination. In addition, it has been established historically that white males represent the class that is socially most advantaged: They do not belong to a discrete insular minority; thus, the impact of the statute cannot be said to have been placed on a minority group. As the court held in Hunter, where the discriminatory law s impact falls on minority, it will be under strict scrutiny and the majority needs no protection against discrimination. Hunter v.
