Descriptive Essay Tree
Ira, come help me set up the tree. My mama called to me from downstairs. Coming mom! I replied
with excitement. Why was I excited? It was the first day of Chanukah, and we had to set up the New
Year s tree. It was a little tradition of ours. In Europe , where my mom grew up, New Years was a big
thing. Some people even put up trees, and my family was one of those people. When I got downstairs,
my mom had already put up the tree in the living room next to the TV, but there were no ornament on
it yet. The ornaments are over there. Mom said pointing to a bucket full of decorations. I walked over
to the bucket and saw the ornaments. They immediately put a smile on my face. The beautiful shiny
golden spheres had always made me happy. Maybe the golden decorations made me so happy was
because of the fun and good times it symbolized. I always knew that after I put them up that it would
be a start to a very enjoyable experience. After we had finished putting up the decorations, I could
hear the door opening. When I rushed to the door to see who it was, I was pleasantly surprised to see
Papa, uncle Nathan, aunt Rebecca, and my cousin Samuel. As they rushed out of the cold weather
inside, aunt Rebecca kissed me on both cheeks. Oh Ira, it s so nice to see you! Are you hungry? Aunt
Rebecca asked. Thanks, Aunt Rebecca, but I just ate. I said. She nodded her head and went to greet
mama. Uncle Nathan passed by me and gave me a high five, and then a fist bump. I loved uncle

Importance Of Self Confidence And Self-Esteem
Children s self confidence and self esteem are directly linked to the way in which they relate to others.
Self esteem can be high or low, positive or negative and is how we feel about ourselves and leads to
our self image, or how we think about or perceive ourselves.
Confidence and self esteem can be affected when a person receives negative input. Children develop
positive self esteem when they feel good about themselves and when they feel valued. They need to
have the opportunities to develop positive relationships and participate in a range of activities, which
will in turn impact on their social and emotional development. Where children do not have these
opportunities, or are unable to find out about themselves and develop their communication skills
through social activities, their confidence and self esteem will be affected. This will also have an
impact on their learning as they will be less likely to attempts tasks when they do not have confidence
in their abilities.
In a safeguarding context, children need to be confident enough to be able to tell others if they are
unhappy about something which is happening to them. This may be a situation in which they are being
bullied, or force into something which they do not agree with. A child who has a negative self image
or does not feel valued may not think that anyone will listen to them and may be reluctant to talk
about something which is worrying them.
Children will have better self esteem and self confidence if they

Plenti Case
Background
American Express (AXP) recently launched a multi sponsor coalition program called Plenti in which
sponsors (e.g., Exxon, Macys, Rite Aid, and ATT) issue loyalty points which can be redeemed across
them and are valid for 3 years. In 2014 we were negotiating participation contract with Rite Aid.
Under their existing loyalty program (Wellness+), Rite Aid issued reward dollars (+Ups) which were
valid for 2 weeks and could be used only within their stores. Rite Aid was concerned that if they join
Plenti that they will issue a large number of loyalty points which will be redeemed at other partners
especially the Grocery partner and they will be effectively subsidizing the program for them.
Challenge
As part of the negotiations, our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We used Census data to estimate customer shopping frequency at sponsors and geographic overlap.
We estimated approximately 70% of coalition members stay in Rite Aid s footprint while only 40% of
members will be enrolled through Rite Aid. The analysis implied $30 $40M redemptions will happen
at other sponsors within Rite Aid s footprint.
We estimated we could influence redemption behavior at Rite Aid by running promotions (e.g., 1000
points are worth $12). So by spending $2 $6M we could influence $10 $30 of redemptions at Rite Aid.
As we discussed with Rite Aid, their concern was more around losing margin on sales associated with
point redemption. At 30% margin it implied risk of $3 10M risk each year
Result
We combined the information and agreed with Rite Aid to reimburse them for margin shortfall if
points redeemed in stores was less than points redeemed outside their stores and also proposed annual
cap of $3M $9M, with claw backs if are able to outperform in subsequent years.
The structure helped address Rite Aid s concern and at same time limited our risk to $2 6MM each
year which was significantly lower than the revenue

The Music Of Music And Music In The Hobbit
The Hobbit Essay
There are approximately thirteen songs in The Hobbit, enough for one in almost every chapter.
Although it cannot be classified as a musical because all the characters are aware that they are singing,
the music still plays an essential role in the development of the story. Many characters from almost all
of the races Tolkien introduces us to compose a song at one point in the story. These songs integrate
relevant details of lore, character development, and a glimpse into the world of Middle Earth. If a
reader investigates further into the songs and poems of The Hobbit, they will find that Tolkien uses
poems and songs to reveal important attributes and estab lish the history and motives of different
species, such as dwarves, elves, and goblins.
One of the first races the readers are introduced to are the dwarves. These short and squat creatures
were once great miners and metal workers whose kingdom was taken by the dragon Smaug. One of
the songs that the Dwarves sing in the first chapter, titled Over the Misty Moun tains Cold, has a
somber and vengeful tone. It has a simple structure of only four lines per stan za and contains
repetition of lines. The rhythm is reminiscent of the repetitive swing of pickaxes, reflecting the
straightforward and sturdy nature of dwarves, and their connection to mining. It speaks about the
ancestry of the dwarves, the splendor and loss of their city of Dale to Smaug, and how they must
regain what

Essay on Shamanism
Shamanism
Shamanism in Anthropology has been an entity in a constant metamorphosis.
It has always been considered exotic and its existence around the globe was never contradicted.
However, over the years it did not receive the scholarly attention that it so requires. The age of
discovery garnered a multitude of information on shamanism all over the world. The reporters
invested a great deal of accuracy in the gathering of the information, but their observational skills
were mostly underdeveloped. Furthermore as could be expected, they saw and evaluated things solely
on the basis of European religion and social customs
(Flaherty, 1992, pp.3) without having it necessary to view its ramifications to the people ... Show more

Nevertheless, differences did emerge that transformed the definition of shamanism in anthropology in
that it added more to this vague definition.
According to Mircea Eliade the shaman who is an inspired priest, in ecstatic trance ascends to the
heavens on trips . In the cause of these journeys the shaman persuades or even fights with the gods in
order to secure benefits for his fellow men. Here, in the opinion of Eliade, spirit possession is not an
essential characteristics and is no always present (Eliade, 1951, pp.434). He goes on by stating that the
quot;specific element of shamanism is not the incorporation of spirits by the shaman but the ecstasy
provoked by the ascension to the sky quot;(pp.434). That is to say that the incorporation of spirit
possession does not necessarily belong to shamanism. Therefore, from Eliade s view point we see that
there is a wedge between shamanism and spirit possession (Lewis,1971, pp.49). This was a view that
was prevalent in the study of shamanism in anthropology at the time. Other writers on the subject
clearly accepted this view as expressed by Luc de Heusch. He sought to develop these ideas into an
ambitious, formalistic theory of religious phenomena. He states that shamanism and spirit possession
are an antithetical process. The first is an ascent of man to the gods, the second the descent of the gods
on men (Lewis,1971,pp.50).

Things Falll Apart by Chinua Achebe
Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe is a story that portrays the tensions between the white Colonial
Government and native born people of Umuofia. Okonkwo, the main character, and a great village
man is highly respected in the Igbo tribe of Umuofia. Although, Okonkwo is highly respected by the
Igbo people, they are fearful of him because of his violent anger. When the Europeans arrived in
Umuofia, they brought with them a new religion: Christianity. The Westerners changed Umuofia,
destroyed tradition and destroyed Okonkwo. Things Fall Apart is a great novel recognised for its
impact on the world s understanding of Africa and African people. The novel s English translation
enabled Achebe to reveal the deep response of the Igbo people to colonisation. Through choosing to
write in English, the novel acts as a bridge to reach out to people all across the world. English acts as a
new voice and enables a connection between others in the world, which allows for the building and
creation of awareness through educating and informing; through the English language, readers from
across the globe are introduced to a new culture. This essay will discuss what the novel s English
translation made possible for the African writer, Chinua Achebe.

Benefits Of Small Town Living
Growing up in a very little town in Illinois was a lot different than growing up in Houston, Texas.
When I was in the fourth grade I found many things to have changed about my surroundings, I
currently lived in a place where, the people thought and acted differently. I know now reading about it
and understanding more that some of those changes were for the good and some were not. Small town
living has its advantages such as, very close friendships, close approximately to may things, and
friendly people. Looking back, I also realized that there were a lot of disadvantages such as lack of
transportation, affects of a poor education, no opportunities for growth, crime, no diversity, and low
paying jobs and housing. Now that I am older, and aware of the affects of living in a small town, I can
see how these many things affected my life and will continue affect it in the future. I grew up, the
majority of my live, in a town in central Illinois, Kincaid, or better known as South Fork because of
the co op with the schools around us in sports. This town is approximately 20 miles southeast of
Springfield, and is only seven miles west from the nearest town, with many opportunities that my
town did not offer (City data).
With a total population of 1,495, including the town of Tovey about a mile away, as of July 1, 2015

Analysis Of Ellen Degeneres s The Puppy Episode
Ellen DeGeneres got almost destroyed after her coming out to the public during her career peak. In
1994, DeGeneres reached her height of popularity as an actress with her self titled television sitcom,
Ellen, which was originally titled These Friends of Mine. This ABC show was popular in its first few
seasons due to DeGeneres s style of observational humor.
Following DeGeneres came out as a lesbian on The Oprah Winfrey Show in February 1997, her
character in Ellen became the first lead in sitcom history to openly acknowledge her homosexuality on
air. The coming out episode, titled The Puppy Episode , was one of the highest rated episode of any
show on the network during that time ( Ellen DeGeneres Biography ).
However, the show faces stronger criticism and was forced to end. An ABC affiliate in Birmingham,
Alabama, refused to air the landmark episode. Fearing controversy, some of the show s sponsors,
Daimler Chrysler among them, withdrew advertisements ( Ellen DeGeneres Biography ). Even though
ABC made no comment other than to confirm the cancellation officially, It was believed that The Walt
Disney Company, ABC s parent owner, had become uncomfortable with the subject matter depicted
on the show now that DeGeneres character was openly gay (Carter). Despite a supportive audience, an
Emmy Award for the coming out episode and the show s groundbreaking place in television history,
Ellen was canceled in 1998.
The specter of earlier intolerance cast a long shadow

Coach Carter Analysis
Ken Carter A.K.A Coach Carter is a fictional character from the Docudrama Coach Carter. Ken shows
signs of an authoritarian complex as his personality has an exceedingly apparent correlation with;
sociopathy, draconian authority, and an almost dictator like persona. Using references from the film
we gain proof of Ken s autocratic demeanour. During the time after the Oilers (Richmond high
basketball team) win their first game Timo Cruz comes to the gym seeking to amalgamate with his
bygone team. Timo becoming a perfect caricature of penitence Ken acted against this remorse with a
gargantuan and quite frankly unattainable task (2500 push ups and 1000 suicides by Friday.) as a form
of punishment. This account provides evidence that Ken Carter s despotic and tyrannical personality
and values (Authority, Self Righteousness, Respect, Reputation, Status, and Success.). Ken Carter asks
each member of the Oilers Basketball Team to sign a contract stating; They must abstain from
dropping below a 2.4 GPA (Grade Point Average.), Attend each and every one of their classes, be
seated in the front row of each class, wear a tie on game day, and they must provide the local
community with 10 hours of community service each. Ken s son had a slightly different contract with
clauses stating he must possess a 3.7 GPA, Attend each and every class, no absences without a valid
reason and proof of that reason, be seated in the front row of each of his classes, wear a tie on game

The Importance Of Animal Testing In The United States
Right at about 26 million animals are tested in the united states each year. Animals are used for
research to develop or prolong new medical treatments, check the safety of products for human use,
and other biomedical, commercial, and health care uses. Research on animals has been practiced since
at least 500 BC. Some researchers say that it is inhumane to experiment on animals, there are many
alternative methods to researchers that can replace animal testing, and many animal species are so
different from human life that research on animals often yields irrelevant results. Animal testing in the
United States is regulated by the federal Animal Welfare Act. The AWA requires that each research

The Benefits of Youth Sport Essay
One thing almost every young child looks forward to is the activity of play. Kids love nothing more

why not encourage them to continue by enrolling them in an organized youth sport program? Young

A prosperous restaurant needs greeters, servers, cooks, and so forth, as well as the managers. Their
ability to work as a team is crucial to its success. You may not have the same interests or beliefs of
those you work with, but that cannot stand in the way of carrying out your job. The same principles
and strategies are relevant and important in sports, and they can be started and nurtured through
involvement in organized youth sports activities. Many youth sports are part of community organized
after school programs. There are many different types of these programs such as T Ball, Little League
Baseball, Pop Warner Football, soccer, martial arts, cheerleading, and so forth. There are over 40
million youth participating in organized sports, and both girls and boys have a dazzling array of
choices and can play a sport year round (Le Menestrel and Perkins 13). Communities use youth sport
as an outlet to encourage social activity, a healthy lifestyle, and skill development for that particular
sport. For example, Participation in organized sports can provide opportunities for youth to learn more
about specific skills and exercises associated with a particular sport (Perkins and Noam 76). These
programs offer opportunities to boost skills and connect positively with others. Without these
activities, parents will have to find another developmental setting that may not give similar or
beneficial outcomes as those of organized youth sport. Studies found that, Sports

arguments on determining how and whether an individual can be held morally responsible for their
actions and omissions. To begin this paper, I will address the view of Sher, following with Levy s
view, and then concluding the paper with a contrast of the two views. George Sher develops his
argument in his book, Who Knew?. His main thesis is laid out in the Full Epistemic Condition, also
known as the FEC. Sher s FEC proposes three distinct conditions under which a person is morally
responsible, with the second condition having two subsets. To be held morally responsible, an
individual must fulfill only one of the three conditions. The first two conditions are distinct conditions
under which a person can be held morally blameworthy, while the third condition specifies conditions
under which a person can be held morally praiseworthy. To explain Sher s view, consider a woman
who owns a cat, is married, and has a child. Every evening during dinner, this woman opens the
window while she cooks and gives most of her attention to her husband and child as they talk to her
about their days. The family s cat remains in the kitchen with them as they prepare for dinner.
Whenever the cat approaches the window, the woman normally yells at the cat to get away from it, in
order to keep it safe

Reflection On Early Learning
This reflection reviews my time at Goodstart Early Learning in Kyneton and the four weeks I spent
there during my first practicum round. The review will critically reflect my experience from this
practicum, using readings and learnings my strengthens and weaknesses will be revealed. Strategies
will also be implemented in what areas I need to focus on before my next practicum round.
Something that I observed at the beginning of my practicum were the issues concerning behavioural
guidance. There was a group of four boys who required the greatest assistance, my experience in
managing people and being a parent quickly reminded me in how to best support them. Knowing each
child and what their abilities and interests are enable educators to respond sensitively and
appropriately to each child (Cohrssen, Church, Tayler, 2011). I spoke with my mentor and other
educators and discovered the backgrounds of these boys and reasonings for their behaviours. I learnt
by observing the other educators how these behavioural guidance issues were managed and the many
techniques they used. Something I realised with the learning experiences I conducted was the need to
not speak too quickly and be clear and concise with my instructions. As I have had limited interaction
with young children as my stepchildren are now adults, I was unaccustomed in how to effectively
communicate with young children. At the beginning of my practicum the instructions and direction I
was attempting to provide were too

Globalization Of Shipping Containers Essay
CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION Rationale of the Study Containerization is a system of freight
transport that transports trade goods from ports to ports. This system is based on a range of steel
intermodal containers (also shipping containers ).These containers are built to standardized
dimensions and can be loaded and unloaded, stacked, transported efficiently over long distances, and
transferred from one mode of transport to another. Thus, it provided an economic way to ship 90% of
the world trade goods across the globe and as a result has benefited society in providing for a truly
open market to buy and sell goods. Cebu is home to national and international corporations whose
trading hub is centered in the international port (cargo ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Contractors find alternative ways of transforming them into buildings that will make an impact on the
public. By using their expertise, they would be able to transform these used containers into something
useful and beneficial. These containers would provide them the opportunity to acquire more projects
and earn profit and of course achieving a sustainable competitive advantage. Through this, contractors
are also able to add value to these containers that have once been unused. Extending the life of these
discarded materials and providing affordable infrastructures to the people is a complete viable
approach. Sturdy, convenient to transport and relatively cheap these are some of the factors that have
made the conversion of shipping containers into modern living and working spaces an ever growing
trend in some other countries. However, little is only known about this innovation in Cebu. The
proponents of this research study the supply and demand of these shipping containers. As end users
create demand for the containers from the contractors as a finished infrastructures, these contractors
are also creating a demand of raw shipping containers from the shipping companies. And yet there are
more of these containers than what the people demanded, making a huge gap between the abundant
supply of shipping container and the demand for them. The researchers

but she could not wear it because it has a gold chain because it makes her break out but now she can

The Influence Of Music On The Music Of America

amount of people in the music industry today a musician who has a different sound than anybody else
will definitely turn a few heads. Some make it bigger than others, but the music tends to hold a
particular sound, especially if the singer uses their roots as an influence in the music. One such

Analysis Of Altruism In The Fountainhead
Adapting Egoism over Altruism: Equality s Escape from Collectivism
No creator was prompted by a desire to serve his brothers, for his brothers rejected the gift he offered
and that gift destroyed the slothful routine of their lives (Rand, The Fountainhead). As described in the
novel The Fountainhead, history has shown to repeat itself by punishing the inventors of new objects
that go against societal normalities. This is evident with Equality 7 2521, the protagonist in Ayn Rand
s book Anthem. Set in a future free of technology, Anthem depicts a man s struggle to free himself
from collectivism. In the novel, society has put strict rules in place to ensure members are controlled
and free from independent thought. Equality acknowledges these rules throughout the book yet still
breaks them to pursue his passion for learning and inventing. Equality s decision to put his own
interests before society s ultimately leads to his liberation. During the book, Equality internally
struggles between doing what is morally right for society and following what he wants. In the city,
rules and expectations are put in place to eliminate individuality. One of these, mentioned in another
piece by Rand, The Fountainhead, is the idea of Altruism, the doctrine which demands that man live
for others and place others above oneself (Rand, The Fountainhead). This eventually leads to men
[having] been taught dependence as a virtue (Rand, The Fountainhead). She further elaborates how
society has implemented Altruism as an excuse to eliminate individuality rather than using it as a tool
to genuinely help others. Since this concept is preached to everyone their whole life, they grow up
only knowing altruism and don t know what individuality is or how they can express it. However,
Equality begins to question the idea of helping others before himself and debates between doing his
undesirable street sweeping job for the city or pursuing his quest for knowledge. Although he would
much rather learn new material, he still feels obligated to carry out his role in the society. This proves
how what he has been taught holds him back from achieving his goal, as Equality is initially confused
on what to do and hesitates. Even though the

Financial Ratio Analysis in a Company
According to Olowe (1997), Financial Ratio Analysis is the relationship between the performance of a
company and the monetary data in the financial statements to assist the economic conditions.
Financial ratio was defined by Robert (1994) as two financial variables being used that have been
taken from either the income statement or from the balance sheet.
Ratio analysis is a tool that is brought in by individuals to perform an evaluative analysis of
information in the company s financial statements. It is an important tool of financial analysis and it
focuses on the figures given in the income statement, fund statements and balance sheet. The figures
are taken from the current year which is used for calculating the ratios and it is then compared to the
previous years, other firms, their industry, and also the firm to evaluate the company s performance.
Moreover, ratio analysis is primarily used by proponents of the financial analysis. In fact, ratio
analysis is commonly used in business. The role of ratio analysis is its significance as a means for a
company to perform an internal evaluation of its performance over a stated period. The role of ratio
analysis is to perform and evaluate within the company based on its performance over a period of
time. An important feature of ratio analysis is that it gives a quick image of the financial state of the
business to potential investors.

Wells purposely uses a first person frame narration to leave a more profound impression upon the

The Human Resource Management Issues Regarding The...
Understanding the strategic long term goals of a company in terms of recruiting, testing, selection and

Forgotten Cat Patrick Literary Analysis
Robert Tew once said, The struggle your in today, is developing the strength you need for tomorrow.
Overcoming your own struggles is sometimes very hard. Especially when they hold you back every
day of your life. Forgotten, by Cat Patrick, is an adventurous, tear jerking romance that teaches teens
about life s most valuable lesson even when the struggles get hard, there is always a way to overcome.
In Forgotten, Cat Patrick uses conflict to teach us that even when the struggles get hard, there is
always a way to overcome. For example, London says Every night I fall asleep, my memory is erased
and all I can remember is events from my future. I study my notes hard every day to jog my memory
and I tell myself that it will be okay. This shows that London had a hard life because of her amnesia,
but she was willing to do whatever it took to feel conventional. Additionally, London didn t have a
dad, so she struggled with not being able to see him, but she still lived life the very best she could with
just her mom. This shows that even though she didn t have a dad, she overcame it by living life
happily. Clearly, even when the struggles get hard there is always a way to overcome is a life lesson
developed through the use of conflict in Forgotten. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Agile Methodology ( Am ) For Software Development Essay
The Agile methodology (AM) for software development is an iterative system characterized by cycles
of development, testing, and stakeholder feedback. According to Ferreira and Cohen, the Agile
methodology has the following five characteristics (50): 1. Iterative development: Small versions of
the software are developed at regular intervals. 2. Continuous integration: Instead of waiting until the
end to make changes to code, code changes are integrated immediately and then tested to ensure they
work. 3. Collective ownership: Development teams are fluid as team members take on different roles
depending on need. They all own and are responsible for the system. 4. Test driven design: Developers
identify the testing required before beginning to write the code for the system. 5. Feedback loop: In
AM, there is a frequent feedback loop from stakeholders to ensure that the software is on track with
expectations throughout the process. Each loop in Agile development is characterized by development
of specific features, testing, stakeholder review, incorporation of changes, and then on to the next
cycle until completion. Comparison of the methods: Stakeholder input: Both waterfall and Agile
methodologies use stakeholder requirements in their process. In the waterfall case study, the video
game highlighted had a pre production stage where the requirements were identified and analysis was
done up front to develop the game conception. The design is based on that early analysis and

return results in a company like Canadian Chemical to lose sales. TJ Wood who is the Vice President
of Sales for Canadian Chemical understands the dilemma and is unsure how to better generate sales
for the company. After reviewing the sales representatives, products being sold, selling expenses, and
the income statement it is evident changes need to be made in order to remain relevant as a top seller
in the industry.
An overall problem for the industry is the lack of quality products and customer service as a result of
extremely low prices. Many companies are profiting off cheap products that are produced quickly to
commodity businesses. Being a company that considers itself a very high ranking leader in the
industry, Canadian Chemical has to combat this shift in the industry in order to acquire enough sales
to remain afloat. As the Vice President of Sales, TJ is responsible for overseeing the representatives
and suggesting how they should approach selling to what fits best. Because

First Bank of the United States
The First Bank of the United States
The Bank of the United States was designed to make money and build an economy. It was designed by
men like Alexander Hamilton and Robert Morris, but did not benefit the common citizen as much as
wealthy investors. Why did a fledgling government need to borrow millions from overseas in order to
invest in a national bank, to turn around and then borrow the same money back and pay interest on it?
The banking system developed by Alexander Hamilton and Robert Morris was prime pickings for
speculators, and laid the groundwork for a history of unscrupulous activity regarding our nation s
money supply that continues to this day. The signatures on the Constitution were barely dry before
corruption and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Men thus enriched by the dexterity of a leader, would follow of course the chief who was leading
them to fortune, and become the zealous instruments of all his enterprises.
Jefferson commented on these events long after his passions over them had cooled. Indeed, by 1818
the first Bank of the United States had come and gone. He felt that the actions of the speculators for
the sole purpose of personal greed were reprehensible, and that the architect of the situation
(Hamilton) was very much responsible for the fleecing of the public.
At this time the government was funding its debt through private banks such as the Bank of North
America and the Bank of New York. Not satisfied with the structure of American banking, Hamilton
reported to Congress the need to establish a National Bank in December of 1790. The Senate created a
committee to study Hamilton s proposal. On the committee were men who shared Hamilton s ideas in
fiscal matters, and that of a strong federal government. One of the members, General Schuyler, was
Hamilton s father in law. It was of no surprise that a bill arose out of the committee supporting
Hamilton s plan to incorporate a Bank of the United States.
Objection to the bill was strenuous. Opponents argued that the incorporation of a national bank might
have deleterious effects on the economy, and wondered whether or

The Transgender Population In The United States
To really discuss the history of the transgender population, perhaps first it is important to define what
exactly transgender is. In a poll conducted by transgender activist Leslie Feinberg, the transgender
population seems to define itself as a group of individuals comprised of anyone who challenges the
boundaries of sex and gender . The transgender umbrella, according to Feinberg, includes:
transsexuals, transvestites, bigenders, drag queens, drag kings, cross dressers, masculine women,
feminine men, intersexuals, passing men and women, and androgynes. With this definition of
transgender in mind, transgender individuals throughout history have served as both religious figures
and leaders in the entertainment industry, playing key roles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In October of 1897, under police chief Jesse Brown Cook, the San Francisco Police made 11 arrests
for cross dressing ( #TBT ), which was illegal in most places well into the latter half of the 20th
century. While the media did not cover any of these arrests, the media did cover transgender
individuals in the entertainment industry, such as Omar Kingsley and Vesta Tilly ( #TBT ). Jesse Cook
himself was an avid fan of drag and theater, even performing some himself, however, he led ruthless
police attacks on the transgender population of San Francisco. The freak factor, for a lack of a better
term, that trans individuals in entertainment brought was a major point of public interest, freak shows
frequently included those that blurred the boundaries of the modern binary gender system, and dime
shows profited off of the cadavers of intersexual individuals

  • 2. Descriptive Essay Tree Ira, come help me set up the tree. My mama called to me from downstairs. Coming mom! I replied with excitement. Why was I excited? It was the first day of Chanukah, and we had to set up the New Year s tree. It was a little tradition of ours. In Europe , where my mom grew up, New Years was a big thing. Some people even put up trees, and my family was one of those people. When I got downstairs, my mom had already put up the tree in the living room next to the TV, but there were no ornament on it yet. The ornaments are over there. Mom said pointing to a bucket full of decorations. I walked over to the bucket and saw the ornaments. They immediately put a smile on my face. The beautiful shiny golden spheres had always made me happy. Maybe the golden decorations made me so happy was because of the fun and good times it symbolized. I always knew that after I put them up that it would be a start to a very enjoyable experience. After we had finished putting up the decorations, I could hear the door opening. When I rushed to the door to see who it was, I was pleasantly surprised to see Papa, uncle Nathan, aunt Rebecca, and my cousin Samuel. As they rushed out of the cold weather inside, aunt Rebecca kissed me on both cheeks. Oh Ira, it s so nice to see you! Are you hungry? Aunt Rebecca asked. Thanks, Aunt Rebecca, but I just ate. I said. She nodded her head and went to greet mama. Uncle Nathan passed by me and gave me a high five, and then a fist bump. I loved uncle Nathan ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Importance Of Self Confidence And Self-Esteem Children s self confidence and self esteem are directly linked to the way in which they relate to others. Self esteem can be high or low, positive or negative and is how we feel about ourselves and leads to our self image, or how we think about or perceive ourselves. Confidence and self esteem can be affected when a person receives negative input. Children develop positive self esteem when they feel good about themselves and when they feel valued. They need to have the opportunities to develop positive relationships and participate in a range of activities, which will in turn impact on their social and emotional development. Where children do not have these opportunities, or are unable to find out about themselves and develop their communication skills through social activities, their confidence and self esteem will be affected. This will also have an impact on their learning as they will be less likely to attempts tasks when they do not have confidence in their abilities. In a safeguarding context, children need to be confident enough to be able to tell others if they are unhappy about something which is happening to them. This may be a situation in which they are being bullied, or force into something which they do not agree with. A child who has a negative self image or does not feel valued may not think that anyone will listen to them and may be reluctant to talk about something which is worrying them. Children will have better self esteem and self confidence if they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Plenti Case Background American Express (AXP) recently launched a multi sponsor coalition program called Plenti in which sponsors (e.g., Exxon, Macys, Rite Aid, and ATT) issue loyalty points which can be redeemed across them and are valid for 3 years. In 2014 we were negotiating participation contract with Rite Aid. Under their existing loyalty program (Wellness+), Rite Aid issued reward dollars (+Ups) which were valid for 2 weeks and could be used only within their stores. Rite Aid was concerned that if they join Plenti that they will issue a large number of loyalty points which will be redeemed at other partners especially the Grocery partner and they will be effectively subsidizing the program for them. We estimated approximately 70% of coalition members stay in Rite Aid s footprint while only 40% of members will be enrolled through Rite Aid. The analysis implied $30 $40M redemptions will happen at other sponsors within Rite Aid s footprint. We estimated we could influence redemption behavior at Rite Aid by running promotions (e.g., 1000 points are worth $12). So by spending $2 $6M we could influence $10 $30 of redemptions at Rite Aid. As we discussed with Rite Aid, their concern was more around losing margin on sales associated with point redemption. At 30% margin it implied risk of $3 10M risk each year Result We combined the information and agreed with Rite Aid to reimburse them for margin shortfall if points redeemed in stores was less than points redeemed outside their stores and also proposed annual cap of $3M $9M, with claw backs if are able to outperform in subsequent years. The structure helped address Rite Aid s concern and at same time limited our risk to $2 6MM each year which was significantly lower than the revenue ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Music Of Music And Music In The Hobbit The Hobbit Essay There are approximately thirteen songs in The Hobbit, enough for one in almost every chapter. Although it cannot be classified as a musical because all the characters are aware that they are singing, the music still plays an essential role in the development of the story. Many characters from almost all of the races Tolkien introduces us to compose a song at one point in the story. These songs integrate relevant details of lore, character development, and a glimpse into the world of Middle Earth. If a reader investigates further into the songs and poems of The Hobbit, they will find that Tolkien uses poems and songs to reveal important attributes and estab lish the history and motives of different species, such as dwarves, elves, and goblins. One of the first races the readers are introduced to are the dwarves. These short and squat creatures were once great miners and metal workers whose kingdom was taken by the dragon Smaug. One of the songs that the Dwarves sing in the first chapter, titled Over the Misty Moun tains Cold, has a somber and vengeful tone. It has a simple structure of only four lines per stan za and contains repetition of lines. The rhythm is reminiscent of the repetitive swing of pickaxes, reflecting the straightforward and sturdy nature of dwarves, and their connection to mining. It speaks about the ancestry of the dwarves, the splendor and loss of their city of Dale to Smaug, and how they must regain what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Essay on Shamanism Shamanism Shamanism in Anthropology has been an entity in a constant metamorphosis. It has always been considered exotic and its existence around the globe was never contradicted. However, over the years it did not receive the scholarly attention that it so requires. The age of discovery garnered a multitude of information on shamanism all over the world. The reporters invested a great deal of accuracy in the gathering of the information, but their observational skills were mostly underdeveloped. Furthermore as could be expected, they saw and evaluated things solely on the basis of European religion and social customs (Flaherty, 1992, pp.3) without having it necessary to view its ramifications to the people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nevertheless, differences did emerge that transformed the definition of shamanism in anthropology in that it added more to this vague definition. According to Mircea Eliade the shaman who is an inspired priest, in ecstatic trance ascends to the heavens on trips . In the cause of these journeys the shaman persuades or even fights with the gods in order to secure benefits for his fellow men. Here, in the opinion of Eliade, spirit possession is not an essential characteristics and is no always present (Eliade, 1951, pp.434). He goes on by stating that the quot;specific element of shamanism is not the incorporation of spirits by the shaman but the ecstasy provoked by the ascension to the sky quot;(pp.434). That is to say that the incorporation of spirit possession does not necessarily belong to shamanism. Therefore, from Eliade s view point we see that there is a wedge between shamanism and spirit possession (Lewis,1971, pp.49). This was a view that was prevalent in the study of shamanism in anthropology at the time. Other writers on the subject clearly accepted this view as expressed by Luc de Heusch. He sought to develop these ideas into an ambitious, formalistic theory of religious phenomena. He states that shamanism and spirit possession are an antithetical process. The first is an ascent of man to the gods, the second the descent of the gods on men (Lewis,1971,pp.50). So ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When I was in the fourth grade I found many things to have changed about my surroundings, I currently lived in a place where, the people thought and acted differently. I know now reading about it and understanding more that some of those changes were for the good and some were not. Small town living has its advantages such as, very close friendships, close approximately to may things, and friendly people. Looking back, I also realized that there were a lot of disadvantages such as lack of transportation, affects of a poor education, no opportunities for growth, crime, no diversity, and low paying jobs and housing. Now that I am older, and aware of the affects of living in a small town, I can see how these many things affected my life and will continue affect it in the future. In 1994, DeGeneres reached her height of popularity as an actress with her self titled television sitcom, Ellen, which was originally titled These Friends of Mine. This ABC show was popular in its first few seasons due to DeGeneres s style of observational humor. Following DeGeneres came out as a lesbian on The Oprah Winfrey Show in February 1997, her character in Ellen became the first lead in sitcom history to openly acknowledge her homosexuality on air. The coming out episode, titled The Puppy Episode , was one of the highest rated episode of any show on the network during that time ( Ellen DeGeneres Biography ). However, the show faces stronger criticism and was forced to end. An ABC affiliate in Birmingham, Alabama, refused to air the landmark episode. Fearing controversy, some of the show s sponsors, Daimler Chrysler among them, withdrew advertisements ( Ellen DeGeneres Biography ). Even though ABC made no comment other than to confirm the cancellation officially, It was believed that The Walt Disney Company, ABC s parent owner, had become uncomfortable with the subject matter depicted on the show now that DeGeneres character was openly gay (Carter). Despite a supportive audience, an Emmy Award for the coming out episode and the show s groundbreaking place in television history, Ellen was canceled in 1998. Ken shows signs of an authoritarian complex as his personality has an exceedingly apparent correlation with; sociopathy, draconian authority, and an almost dictator like persona. During the time after the Oilers (Richmond high basketball team) win their first game Timo Cruz comes to the gym seeking to amalgamate with his bygone team. Timo becoming a perfect caricature of penitence Ken acted against this remorse with a gargantuan and quite frankly unattainable task (2500 push ups and 1000 suicides by Friday.) as a form of punishment. In this paper, I will explicate the views of George Sher and Neil Levy on moral responsibility. These philosophers present different arguments on determining how and whether an individual can be held morally responsible for their actions and omissions. To begin this paper, I will address the view of Sher, following with Levy s view, and then concluding the paper with a contrast of the two views. George Sher develops his argument in his book, Who Knew?. His main thesis is laid out in the Full Epistemic Condition, also known as the FEC. Sher s FEC proposes three distinct conditions under which a person is morally responsible, with the second condition having two subsets. To be held morally responsible, an individual must fulfill only one of the three conditions. The first two conditions are distinct conditions under which a person can be held morally blameworthy, while the third condition specifies conditions under which a person can be held morally praiseworthy. To explain Sher s view, consider a woman who owns a cat, is married, and has a child. Every evening during dinner, this woman opens the window while she cooks and gives most of her attention to her husband and child as they talk to her about their days. The family s cat remains in the kitchen with them as they prepare for dinner. Analysis Of Altruism In The Fountainhead Adapting Egoism over Altruism: Equality s Escape from Collectivism No creator was prompted by a desire to serve his brothers, for his brothers rejected the gift he offered and that gift destroyed the slothful routine of their lives (Rand, The Fountainhead). As described in the novel The Fountainhead, history has shown to repeat itself by punishing the inventors of new objects that go against societal normalities. This is evident with Equality 7 2521, the protagonist in Ayn Rand s book Anthem. Set in a future free of technology, Anthem depicts a man s struggle to free himself from collectivism. In the novel, society has put strict rules in place to ensure members are controlled and free from independent thought. Equality acknowledges these rules throughout the book yet still breaks them to pursue his passion for learning and inventing. Equality s decision to put his own interests before society s ultimately leads to his liberation. During the book, Equality internally struggles between doing what is morally right for society and following what he wants. In the city, rules and expectations are put in place to eliminate individuality. One of these, mentioned in another piece by Rand, The Fountainhead, is the idea of Altruism, the doctrine which demands that man live for others and place others above oneself (Rand, The Fountainhead). This eventually leads to men [having] been taught dependence as a virtue (Rand, The Fountainhead). She further elaborates how society has implemented Altruism as an excuse to eliminate individuality rather than using it as a tool to genuinely help others. Since this concept is preached to everyone their whole life, they grow up only knowing altruism and don t know what individuality is or how they can express it. However, Equality begins to question the idea of helping others before himself and debates between doing his undesirable street sweeping job for the city or pursuing his quest for knowledge. Although he would much rather learn new material, he still feels obligated to carry out his role in the society. This proves how what he has been taught holds him back from achieving his goal, as Equality is initially confused on what to do and hesitates. Even though the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Forgotten, by Cat Patrick, is an adventurous, tear jerking romance that teaches teens about life s most valuable lesson even when the struggles get hard, there is always a way to overcome. In Forgotten, Cat Patrick uses conflict to teach us that even when the struggles get hard, there is always a way to overcome. For example, London says Every night I fall asleep, my memory is erased and all I can remember is events from my future. I study my notes hard every day to jog my memory and I tell myself that it will be okay. This shows that London had a hard life because of her amnesia, but she was willing to do whatever it took to feel conventional. Additionally, London didn t have a dad, so she struggled with not being able to see him, but she still lived life the very best she could with just her mom. The Agile Methodology ( Am ) For Software Development Essay The Agile methodology (AM) for software development is an iterative system characterized by cycles of development, testing, and stakeholder feedback. According to Ferreira and Cohen, the Agile methodology has the following five characteristics (50): 1. Iterative development: Small versions of the software are developed at regular intervals. 2. Continuous integration: Instead of waiting until the end to make changes to code, code changes are integrated immediately and then tested to ensure they work. 3. Collective ownership: Development teams are fluid as team members take on different roles depending on need. They all own and are responsible for the system. 4. Test driven design: Developers identify the testing required before beginning to write the code for the system. 5. Feedback loop: In AM, there is a frequent feedback loop from stakeholders to ensure that the software is on track with expectations throughout the process. Each loop in Agile development is characterized by development of specific features, testing, stakeholder review, incorporation of changes, and then on to the next cycle until completion. Comparison of the methods: Stakeholder input: Both waterfall and Agile methodologies use stakeholder requirements in their process. He felt that the actions of the speculators for the sole purpose of personal greed were reprehensible, and that the architect of the situation (Hamilton) was very much responsible for the fleecing of the public. At this time the government was funding its debt through private banks such as the Bank of North America and the Bank of New York. Not satisfied with the structure of American banking, Hamilton reported to Congress the need to establish a National Bank in December of 1790. One of the members, General Schuyler, was Hamilton s father in law. It was of no surprise that a bill arose out of the committee supporting Hamilton s plan to incorporate a Bank of the United States.
