Glue In Romeo And Juliet
Glue can be viewed as a sticky mess; however, it is the mold and foundation for the basis of many
things. Glue is a binder for many things including art projects and practical crafts. Much like how
literal glue sticks objects together, metaphoric glue keeps order. For instance, a father is the glue of a
family because he is a protector, a money maker, and a lover. In the dramatic play Romeo and Juliet
by William Shakespeare, two families feuds have to keep lovers apart until their deaths. Their families
start to fall apart as the mold holding them together does as well. Young Juliet ends her life far too
early because her father, Lord Capulet, has a wrath that is too much to put up a fight with. Her father
gives her orders that she refuses to take, but unfortunately he does not like to hear the word no.
Nonetheless, chaos unfolds to what seems to be no end. Ultimately, Lord Capulet s power and temper
both weakens and strengthens the glue that holds together the Capulet name. ... Show more content on

A father s most precious moments are the ones he spends with his little girl. When Lord Capulet is
first introduced, he is illustrated as the loving father all girls are lucky to have. He cares for and
protects his daughter from many dangers, including boys with their own agendas. For instance, Lord
Capulet says,
My child is yet a stranger in the world,
She hath not seen the change of fourteen years;

Social Responsibility Of Art In Art, Art And Art
Art has been around for thousands of years. It is a way of expressing oneself and making a personal
connection to the world around us. Art is much more than a brush stroking against a canvas it is a part
of our imagination come to life in the form a film, drawing, music, and literature. Because of how
much art can impact society, we must have a social responsibility as a community to enforce the
learning and practice of the arts. Art can be used as a way of reaching out to preach about racial
prejudices. Excuse Me, Can I see Your ID? is an art exhibit created by Lonnie Lee. Lee is an Asian
American woman who designed this museum as means of showing the harsh truth Asian Americans
face on the daily. Excuse Me, Can I See Your ID? is not intended for the white gaze. (Frank). This
exhibit shows what the white dominated art world does not. Each piece of work tells the story of
different individuals and their struggles of what it is like conforming in America where Asians are
viewed as perpetual foreigners . From one medium to another, the Black Arts Movement, which lasted
from 1965 to 1975, was a great impact on society. Following the assassination of Malcolm X, black
people came together to protest their liberty. While it had the most effect in theatre and poetry, African
Americans spoke their minds through literature, visual arts, and music. Not only reaching cultural
recognition and economic success, the Black Arts Movement brought about modern day hip hop and
spoken word.
The arts have a way of bringing a community together by having people discuss a certain topic or
controversy currently going on in the world. The arts open minds and hearts to something previously
overlooked or bashed on it breaks barriers. When we sit in that darkened theatre or walk through a
well lit gallery, it opens us to experiences different from our own pasts and futures we ll never
experience in our lifetimes. It opens us to compassion. It opens us to dialogue, new ideas, and new
understanding. (Robinson). In cities filled with crime, violence, and poverty, artists Dre Urhahn and
Jeroen Koolhaas were able to bring a community of people together. These two men traveled all the
way to favelas slums in Brazil to transform

Essay On Health Information Exchange
Introduction I will be focusing on defining a Health Information Exchange, including the aspects of
the various formats; how Health Information Exchanges developed over time, including the hurdles
that had to be overcome; and where Health Information Exchanges are heading, along with expected
hurdles and improvements. The development has been much slower than expectations, but the future
looks promising. What is HIE? Health Information Exchanges (HIEs) share patient information
between health care providers in order to improve the speed, quality, safety, and cost of patient care.
By sharing data, physicians improve their decision making, as well as reduce readmissions, avoid
medication errors, improve diagnoses, and decrease duplicate testing. Aside from these benefits, the
use of electronic data requires healthcare providers to standardize their data. There are three forms of
exchanges the direct exchange, query based exchange, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This service, once the patient is identified, searches for the existence of records within the exchange.
This form of information retrieval would be very helpful to the care of a patient, most specifically in
the case of emergency care (Morris, 2012). The Emergency Dept could begin a query at the time of
triage to build a problem list, allergy list, medication list, current physicians and ongoing treatments.
The costs associated with developing a record locator service, and the questionable sustainability in a
market lacking interoperability between the available EHRs, have impeded the development of this
form of exchange (Rudin,2014).It has been difficult for HIEs using this format to reach their tipping
point to become self sustaining. There are several determinants driving the success of Query based
HIOs the need for a broader set of clinical data, more diverse and high volumes of data, obtaining
relevant users that need the database, and utilization rates (Morris,

The Law of Attraction
The Law of Attraction Many people in this world live their lives without any aspirations towards
greatness. They think that they don t stand a chance of fulfilling any of the dreams or goals they might
have. Their idea of dreams coming true are far from their imagination and stick around with the absurd
idea of keeping their feet in the ground and stop day dreaming or even think about it. What they don t
know is that by just thinking about it, they re much closer to their dream than what they thought they
were. There are several steps to follow though, steps that will make you reach your goal a lot faster
with just using your mind and that are what I d like to demonstrate you.
For a long time a thing such as the law of attraction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Basically every thought you have will contribute to what what s going on in your mind, whether you
want it or not if you think about it you ll attract it. Some people say that this is where the saying Be
careful with what you wish for comes from. It doesn t matter if it s for good or bad by having it in
your head you just might get it.
The law of attraction has been with us always, whether you knew about it or not (Byrne 58). Where
we could see it a lot is with children. Take me for example, when I was little I used to dream about
going to Disney World. I would see the commercials and I would see myself there also. Playing,
meeting my favorite characters, getting on all the rides and just simply having fun. I would pray and
ask my parents to take me. Down deep inside of me I knew I was going to be able to go one day, I
never lost hope. Until one day my aunt decided to organize a trip for the whole family and I just
couldn t believe it! After all that wishing and hoping I finally got to go and made my biggest dream
come true. That s exactly what a person needs to do, have faith that you re going to receive it and just
like a child, don t worry on the how and when to receive it. Just wait and have that certainty of being
able to have it at the right time at the right moment.
What also keeps a lot of people away from their goals is their fear. Fear of hoping and day dream and

American Born Chinese Assimilation
The stories American Born Chinese by Gene Lang, Linh Lai by Rebecca Rosenblum and Tapka by
David Bezmozgis all follow the lives of immigrants and first generation born Canadians/Americans.
These stories are diverse both in the ethnicity of the characters and in their experiences. However, they
are all summative of the detriment of the immigrant experience, which is a universal struggle. These
stories, through their diversity and similarity, give the cumulative theme that assimilation often does
more harm than good, and that it widely contributes to isolation, loneliness and loss of identity.

of four characters into the lives of two first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Linh is constantly torn between Vietnamese and Canadian culture to the point where she begins to
question her identity and lose her ties to both cultures. Throughout the story, Lihn s name is never
used. She is instead referred to as either Jinny or Xing. However, neither name belongs to a certain
culture. Linh notices that All the white Jinnys have a different sound in their names from the ihh in
hers (Rosenblum 1). Xing is a name given to her by her employer to make her sound more foreign but
It s not a Vietnamese name. It s not a Canadian name. It s a no name (3). Linh is forced into a new
culture and that ultimately strips her of any identity. Linh is torn between two cultures by Koenburg
(her employer) and her uncle. Koenburg wants to preserve her Vietnamese identity for the integrity of
his restaurant. Her uncle, on the other hand wishes for her to leave her old identity behind and
assimilate to Canadian culture. This causes conflict for Linh as she is constantly being pulled in two
directions. An example of this would be when Linh gets a new pair of shoes. Her uncle approves of
the new Canadian shoes (7). However, Koenburg disapproves stating that [they] are not Vietnamese
(7). Linh is so conflicted between the two cultures and her two identities that she ends up feeling void
of any identity. This is reflected in her life in one of the movies she watches. The film cuts off before
the credits, denying the actors and contributors of their identities much like she is being denied of hers
(6). The story ends with Linh falling off a skateboard and hitting her head. Koenburg and her friend
Jimmy are both shouting Jinny and Xing, but She has no idea who they re talking to (12). Linh Lai is
an example of how assimilation can lead to isolation and how it can contribute to a loss of

Symbolism In Lord Of The Flies Analysis
His head opened and stuff came out and turned red. Piggy s arms and legs twitched a bit like a pig
after it has been killed (217). This is what can happen to someone when all signs of civilization, order
and power disappear and have no more meaning to members of a group or society. In the writing of
William Golding s Lord of the Flies (1954), the symbol of power and civilization is the conch. Once
that is lost, all bets are off. When the novel begins, two boys are talking about what has happened and
why they are on this island. While walking on the beach, the main character Ralph then proceeds to
find a shell which the two boys call the conch. Blowing on this shell Ralph calls a meeting where the
boys lay out rules and decide they need a signal fire to be rescued from this island on which there are
no adults and no females. During the meeting Jack, a choir boy, decides to organize a group of hunters
to hunt for food. As the story progresses, Ralph finds himself and Jack to be enemies. Then the lord of
the flies begins to emerge within the group, many of whom begin to take on savage behavior, and end
up killing Simon. Jack then decides to go and start his own tribe; he and a lot of the others do so. Even
as the conflict increases between the two rivals, there is ongoing respect for the conch. The same
savages later kill the character Piggy who was not doing anything to them except trying to get his
glasses back that were stolen to make the fire. Then they try to kill

The choices that consumers make are influenced by grocery stores, as a result of the supermarket s
extenuous research in customer distraction. Marion Nestle describes in her article that if [customers]
find [themselves] in a supermarket buying on impulse and not minding a bit, [they] are behaving
exactly the way store managers want [them] to (504). The constant background music, fresh smell of
bakery, and endless food samples are just some of the methods supermarkets use to as a form of
distraction. They want to appeal to the senses of their consumers in order to push customers to steer
away from their original list of groceries to buy more. Although this may be good for the business of
the supermarkets, it does not have the same benefits

The Theories of Freud and Jung
1. Freud s essay on The Sexual Aberrations posits the existence of a sexual urge, called libido , which
Freud finds analogous to hunger. Freud suggests that, like hunger, the libido manifests itself more or
less from birth. The chief question for Freud in this paper is why libido should manifest itself in
unexpected ways as with inversion , which is the slightly old fashioned term that Freud uses for
homosexuality. Freud rather unexpectedly relies on the suggestion that mucus membranes in general
are susceptible to sexual stimulation in his opinion, this accounts for such varied phenomena as
kissing, thumbsucking, and anal sex. Freud then goes on to explain foot fetishism and other sexual
fascination with inanimate objects in terms of primitive religion: This substitution is not unjustly
compared with the fetich in which the savage sees the embodiment of his god. (Freud 1910). Freud
goes on to explain other aberrations, such as Sado Masochism, in terms of their attempt to cope with
an overvaluation of the sexual object. The idealistic impulses of love are seen, by Freud, as perhaps
even more evident in people who love whips or feet. Ultimately Freud brings it back to the nature of
the hypothesized infantile sexuality in Freud s belief, this has no natural object and is expressed in all
directions at once. By contemporary scientific standards, Freud s essay is a mess. To take the most
obvious example, Freud died in 1939: this is the same year that the Nobel Prize in

Domestic Violence And An Imperative Social Problem
Domestic violence is one of the world s leading dilemmas. It is occurring in our backyards or the
homes of our next door neighbors. In our everyday world this issue has been accepted, tolerated and
greatly associated within various relationships. Music does an excellent job in referencing this matter
in countless songs. For example, a pop single by The Crystals He Hit Me (And It Felt Like A Kiss) in
(1962) uses amusing vocals with corroding strings and sorrowful drums to enhance this song and shed
light on the issue of domestic violence, which describes that eventually individuals in our society
become prone to the horrific phenomenon. Another example, is the blues song Outside Of That from
the album Mama s got the blues (1923) by Bessie Smith. This song also exemplifies how love can
make you accepting to corrupt mechanisms in intimate relationships.
2. Issue Discussion Domestic violence is an epidemic and an imperative social problem. It occurs in
all age crowds and ethnic groups. According to the United States Department of Justice, domestic
violence is illegal and defined as a routine or a pattern of abusive behaviors in any relationship. It is
portrayed by one partner to achieve or maintain control above another. Some of the common abuse
forms are physical, emotional, sexual, economical and psychological (DOJ pg.1 2014). The Center for
Disease Control states that approximately 1.3 million individuals are physically abused each year in
the United States and every

Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children, Power Relationships...
Introduction This essay explores how unaccompanied asylum seeking children (UASC) are oppressed
in the UK. An unaccompanied asylum seeking child is a person under the age of eighteen who has left
their country of origin in order to seek refuge and is separated from both parents and are not being
cared for by an adult who, by law or custom has responsibility to do so (UNHCR, 1994:121). They are
therefore applying for asylum in their own right. Discrimination is the process of identifying that
someone is different and, due to this difference, treating them unfairly (Thompson, 2006). Xenoracism
is discrimination that is aimed at people specifically because they are from a different country, and are
therefore strangers (Sivanandan, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Power is the capacity to act in such a way as to control others (Harris, 1997:28). He argues that
everyone has at least some power, and that this power, for the relatively powerless, can be used to
influence the decisions of the dominant group. Unaccompanied asylum seeking children not disclosing
information can be seen as them exercising the little power they have. This can however have a
negative impact on their lives in the UK, for example, being placed under section 17 of the Children
Act instead of under section 20, which would offer the child more support. Foucault (1977) uses
discourse to relate to how language can be used to construct ideas and thoughts about groups.
Discourses and language can therefore help construct or reduce oppression (Thompson, 2006). If a
group has power, they have the ability and opportunity to fulfil or obstruct personal, relational, or
collective needs (Prilleltensky, 2008). If the dominant discourse of a less powerful group is positive,
the group with power may help that group fulfil their needs. If the dominant discourse of a less
powerful group is negative, such as with UASC, the powerful group may obstruct them in fulfilling
their needs, and therefore will cause oppression. Innes (2010) argues that the negative discourse of
asylum seekers as a threat to British society is portrayed in government literature

Descriptive Essay On A Water Park
The wet and wild idea
The sun was bright and there was warmth in the air so it was a great day to go to a water park with my
friend Darcy. We were going to be the first ones down the huge water slide. We had been waiting all
night and day to go down this exciting ride. There needs to be four people to go down this water slide
but there are just the two of us so we will just need to try and get a lot of speed up at the start and hope
that we can get to the end of the water slide. We want to be the first ones down it but we look to our
right and there are hundreds of people waiting to go down it. We need to think of a plan to get around
the huge line of people.
There s a lifeguard blocking the only way to get up to the water slide so we will have to be careful
there so they won t catch us sneaking past the line. We will have to distract the lifeguard. Darcy you
will need to tell the lifeguard that someone is stealing his car. Then we can crab a raft and run up the
stairs to the top of the water slide. We can quickly jump onto the raft and go down the water slide.
When we get to the end of the waterslide we will run to the busiest pool and jump into the busiest pool
so that the lifeguards can t spot us. Ok that s the plan now we have to do that, Darcy muttered.
Ok the water slide jets turn on in five minutes so we have five minutes to find a hiding spot. It would
be a good idea to hide near the rafts so that we can grab one straight away and run up the stairs Darcy
said .

The Laws Of Evidence From The Criminal Court
In chapter one, we discuss the history of the rules of evidence and how the rules of evidence became
applicable to our modern society. The use of evidence was deeply established during the creation of
the American colonies. In comparison to many developed countries at the time, the common law was
embraced to implement a set of guidelines to punish any wrongful acts and/or to ultimately deter
criminal behavior in society. Ideally, the utilization of evidence was used and is still used to
corroborate whether an individual is guilty or innocent in the court of law. The application of evidence
in determining whether an individual is guilty or innocent has varied on a judicial spectrum
throughout time. Today, evidence is crucial in determining the guilt of an individual, as our country
has set in stone the importance of societies constitutional rights; ultimately, one is presumed innocent
until proven guilty. Evidence that is beyond a reasonable doubt is used to guarantee a lawful
conviction within the criminal court. Earlier methods of determining a conviction in the criminal court
clearly lacked the structure and fundamentals of modern civilization. The use of ordeals was a
common practice in 1066 in determining a standard proof of guilt or innocence. Many hierarchies
varied their ordeals, basing death as a sign of innocence. For instance, the ordeal by water became a
common determination of an individual s guilt. However, the act itself had no clear foundation in
determining

Did you ever wonder how it would feel to be invaded? Or what aliens are like, maybe even how
would life be if they came to Earth? H.G. Wells from The War of the Worlds and Ray Bradbury of
Zero Hour explore how these unusual appearances of these creatures changed everything about these
two characters lives.
In the book Zero Hour Mink seems to go through some challenges because of an alien named Drill .
Mink is a little girl, that had little clue of what she was getting herself into. They couldn t figure a way

they couldn t figure a way to surprise Earth (Bradbury 250) Mink is explaining to her mother how

Effects Of Bulimia On Teenagers
Bulimia s effect on teenagers Eating disorders are not a consequence of only one source, they are
caused by different factors. Physiological, psychological, social and cultural circumstances are the
main sources of these diseases. Anorexia and bulimia are the most common diseases among teenagers.
Anorexia is the needless loss of weight; it is more commonly presented in teenage girls. On the other
hand, Bulimia can be described as the action of binge eating followed by purging. Bulimia is a severe
issue among society due to the reason that it affects a big portion of the adolescent population of the
world. The effects of bulimia range from physical to mental issues. Bulimia is caused by many factors.
The most important one is low self esteem from the teenagers; they compare themselves to the many
different images of perfection social media displays to them. Social pressure, or peer pressure, has a
significant effect on the teenage minds and often drives teenagers to develop symptoms of bulimia.
Toxic social environments can range from the classroom to their own home. Often times what might
appear to others as harmless criticism can be extremely detrimental to a teenager s self image and
cause them to develop symptoms of bulimia. According to studies conducted by the Mayo clinic
simply being a female teenager significantly increases your chances of developing bulimia. In the
modern day, teens admire and pursue the path of several famous people. The majority of

Ordeal by battle was when two nobles fought, usually until one of them died. The winner was

Examples Of Conformism In Catcher In The Rye
In the 1950s, American economy was booming after the World War II. Rates of unemployment and
inflation were low, and wages were high. However, the American society had its flaws despite all the
success it was having. One of the most popular novels of the time, The Cather In The Rye written by
JD Salinger, discussed the flaws in the society Americans had failed to realize. Throughout the novel,
Salinger criticized many aspects of American Society such as the idea of conformity and the ignorance
of teenager s lives. One of Salinger s criticism on American society was the idea of conformity where
everyone was to match with one another. During the 1950s, Americans were following these norms of
behaving in the same way as one another. For example, they lived in houses that looked identical,
wore the same types of clothing and many others. Richard Powers stated in Life of a 1950s Teenagers,
What I remember most about the 50s were rules. Rules, rules, rules... for everything. Rules about
clothes which clothes you could wear when. [...] Rules about streets. Rules about play. Rules were
placed on every American, especially children, on how to act at certain places, what to wear and
others. These norms slowly became a part of the Americans daily lives. In The Catcher In The Rye,
Salinger opposed the idea of conformity through the main character, Holden Caufield. Holden was a
teenager who rebels against conformity by not doing what is expected of him by his parents. He kept

The Relationship Between Culture And Culture
Tóhaŋni waŋžíla iyápi iyóhi šni! In Lakota translation means one language is never enough. Language
can be viewed as a verbal expression of culture. It is used to support and carry culture and cultural
ties. Language provides us with many of the categories we use for expression of our thoughts, so it is
natural to assume that our thinking is influenced by the language. The principles and levies in the
country we grow up in shape the way we think to a certain extent. Culture is indistinguishable allied to
language. Without language, culture cannot be completely assimilated nor cannot be efficiently
expressed and transmitted. Both language and culture are unified that it is difficult to define the
limitations of language and culture, and whether language influences culture or vice versa. Exploring
the relationship between language and culture, we can generally agree that language and culture are
meticulously related.
To speak a language is to take on a world, a culture. (Frantz Fanon) Efforts to keep resources on
cultural heritage have gained new momentum throughout the world today. Different themes of culture:
shared, learned, symbolic, nature reciprocity, an integrated system, plays an adaptive role in human

The Pros And Cons Of Genetic Editing And Human Cloning
The humanity of the human future is in our hands. Humans as a species have innovated the world.
Leading to modern medicine, which continues daily becoming ever more powerful against disease and
death, due to the bewildering achievements in the fields of biomedical science and technology. The
groundbreaking achievements in these field have made things possible, which people thousands of
years ago, could only dream of. The present and future advances in genetic and reproductive
technologies, in neuroscience and psychopharmacology, and in the development of artificial organs
and computer chip implants for human brains, we now recognize new uses for biomedical power that
goes beyond the traditional medical goals of healing disease and relieving suffering. Medicine has
grown a new branch for genetic editing and human cloning, which should be banned and tightly

created an impact on the Los Angeles club scene and became a regular attraction at the legendary
Sunset Strip club the Wisky A Go Go. They caught the attention of Zomba Music publishing s Jeff

Advantages And Disadvantages Of A Farmer
Farmer, the perfect profession?
This article will provide information of what being a farmer is, what is needed to become one, a
common routine and some positive and negative facts of this profession.
A farmer is a person who owns a farm and or takes care of it . Farmers normally perform two kinds of
professional activities: one is related with animals and the other with plants. The first one includes all
the process of breeding livestock, such as cattle, sheep, pig and goats. On the other hand we have the
work of agriculture; it consists on the growing of different kinds of plants for human or animal

Being in constant contact with nature is one of the most common statements made by different
farmers. Seeing a deer crossing happily through the fields is beautiful to see and it is not within reach
of other jobs. In addition to this, you are the one establishing your working hours and your way of
working it is your responsibility to choose when and how you want to work. Contrary to popular
belief, farmers are able to develop their creativity as they can try to perform new techniques of
sowing, for example, or, they can invent new devices to improve their work. Another important aspect
is that your work is going to be different through the years because every harvest is going to be
different from the previous one. Becoming a farmer will teach a lot of new things, not only about
plants and crops, but also you are likely to become a weather forecast. For example if the clouds of the
sky look like stone pavement it is very possible that the next day is going to rain. Consuming your

We Both Reach For The Gun Analysis
In 1975, Chicago became a Broadway hit due to the work of Bob Fosse, John Kander and Fred Ebb.
Ebb created the lyrics and also worked with Fosse to write the book, while Kander created the music.
Chicago portrays a theme that celebrity statuses corrupt judicial system. The idea of celebrity
criminals appears throughout the musical as the girls fight for attention in press in order to help win
their trial. Mamma Morton clearly says (33 minutes into the movie) Murder is a form of entertainment
here and the musical proves that statement true. The most dominant example of celebrity criminals
gaining the favor of the public eye is when Roxie makes up her entire life story. Billy Flynn asks her
questions about her past, like where she was born or where her parents are, only to completely change
her answers. The song We Both Reached for the Gun showcases that Flynn acts more like a publicist
than a lawyer. Roxie s entire life was made up and told to the press so she could appeal innocent and
make the public take sympathy on her. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the start of the musical, all of the attention in the media is on Velma Kelly because she was a
celebrity before she was arrested. The attention then shifts to Roxie and leaves Velma feeling
neglected by the press and Flynn. Velma tries to convince Roxie they need to do a show together, with
the motive that maybe more attention will shift back to her. As soon as there is a new murder in the
city the attention of the media shifts, yet again, and this time away from Roxie and Velma. In pursuit
of attention, Roxie faints and then starts the rumor that she is pregnant in hopes the court could never
kill a pregnant woman. Mamma Morton understands the idea that fame benefits the girls on trial, so
she takes bribes in order to help them get publicity. As a jail supervisor, she is a representation of the

Ethanol and Gas Prices Essays
Ethanol and Gas Prices
Do the gas prices frustrate you every time you pull up to the pump? Gas companies are charging too
much for the natural resource that is turned into what we know as gasoline. Gas companies discourage
research and new ideas every year. Afraid of losing the market that they have cornered they buy
patents. This way the patents will never be used and they still have the market cornered. Ethanol is a
much safer and more economical solution to our gas problem. It is cleaner burning and it can be
produced from year to year. Ethanol will allow the United States public to get away from the
corruption of big gas business and finally be able to enjoy better prices at the pump. The gas

Ethanol is produced with the help of farmers. It comes from the common cash crop called corn. These
crops are grown throughout the United States and mainly in the Midwest. They can be produced every
year and hauled straight to the local plant. Using ethanol would help these struggling farmers. The
corn prices have been down for some time and the economic help from using ethanol would be
astronomical. Farmers would haul more corn each year because of the demand that the ethanol plant
brings. The demand for grain created by ethanol production increases net farm income more than $12
billion annually (ethanol info). In the future the demand for ethanol would be greater which would
produce a larger farm income each year. Ethanol could help the farmers more than anything else. The
raise in income would be dramatic because the use of ethanol today is only minimal and it produces
$12 billion in income each year. The more ethanol used the more the annual income it will produce.
This would cause the corn price to go up and more farmers would be able to stay in business. There
would be no more struggles with foreign nations to get better oil prices. The money that is spent on
the imports of oils from other countries will not be needed as much and hopefully in the future will not
be needed at all. This new and safe energy producer known as ethanol could be produced and
manufactured in the United States. Today, ethanol reduces the demand for gasoline

High Stakes Testing Is An Educational Strategy
High stakes testing is an educational strategy that affects students, teachers, and society as a whole.
The topic of high stakes testing has been supported and discredited by many educators, politicians,
and citizens. Nationally, schools are using high stakes testing for a variety of reasons. The American
Educational Research Association discussed high stakes testing and issued a statement that read:
Many states and school districts mandate testing programs to gather data about student achievement
over time and to hold schools and students accountable. Certain uses of achievement test results are
termed high stakes if they carry serious consequences for students or educators. Schools may be
judged according to the school wide average scores for their students. High school wide scores may
bring public praise or financial rewards; low scores may bring public embarrassment or heavy
sanctions. For individual students, high scores may bring a special diploma attesting to exceptional
academic accomplishment; low scores may result in students being held back in grade or denied a
high school diploma. (Marchant, 2004, p. 2)
The mere definition of high stakes testing carries a combination of both negative and positive
implications. The intentions set out by policy makers can be seen as positive but the apparent negative
effects are also visible. The concern with high stakes testing does not lie solely in the fact that there
are negative implications but rather that the negatives

Jack Doesn t Want For Start An Outbreak
Another Place, Another Time
Jack didn t want to start an outbreak. What eleven year old did? He didn t even want to find The
Kingdom. All he wanted was to get away from his babysitter, Susanne. Now his whole town was
infected with the Sickness, and it was all his fault.
He sat in his room, his back against the locked door, staring at his hands. The hands were the first sign
of Sickness. A slimy, black ooze would drip off your fingers, seemingly coming from nowhere. He d
seen it on his mom, and on Susanne, and on the whole town. Now he saw it on himself. It spread up
your arms and throughout your body, turning your skin the color of midnight. You were still yourself
then, though. You were still you, until the Sickness reached your brain.
Jack watched the black droplets splashing onto the ground and melting into the floor boards. He knew
he had to do something about the Sickness that had rapidly taken his whole town. He swung his
backpack over his back and put a cap on over his fair haired head. Then he climbed out the window
(thankfully, his room was on the first floor) and started running towards the only place he could think
to go: The woods.
He recalled three weeks ago, when he had done the same. Jack had come to the woods many times as
a child. He loved the fresh air and cool breeze that came with entering it. It reminded him of his father,
who had gotten very sick and died a year and three weeks before. On that day he had come here to be

Rappaccini’s Daughter by Nathaniel Hawthorne
Two boys stare at an unfamiliar girl sitting by herself and whisper, She must be new, to each other.
They walk over to her, wanting to know about her, and ask her where she is from. The human
tendency of wanting to know about the unknown is an idea writers such as Nathaniel Hawthorne use
in their works. Hawthorne uses the style of Romanticism, which was most prominent during the early
nineteenth century and includes specific traits such as devotion to nature, feelings of passion, and the
lure of the exotic. It also emphasizes traits including the idea of solitary life rather than life in society,
the reliance on the imagination, and the appreciation of spontaneity. Rappaccini s Daughter by

In summary, the lure of the exotic which Giovanni feels towards Beatrice and the flowers asserts that
Rappaccini s Daughter is Romantic. The idea of solitary life rather than life in society is a theme
interlaced throughout the short story. Early in the tale, Hawthorne writes, [Giovanni] seated himself
near the window, but within the shadow thrown by the depth of the wall, so that he could look down
into the garden with little risk of being discovered. Giovanni, wanting to be secluded, hid from view,
and this adds to the solitary life theme. Furthermore, the author writes, the desert of humanity around
them ... [pressed] this insulated pair closer together, to describe Giovanni and Beatrice find kinship
(Hawthorne). Near the end of the narrative, both Giovanni and Beatrice become infused with poison.
They are not able to live a normal life or be around society because their poison will injure or kill
others. Beatrice even says that the poison had, estranged [her] from all society of [her] kind
(Hawthorne). Therefore, solitary life, a concurrent theme and Romantic trait is existent in Rappaccini
s Daughter.
Hawthorne s story demonstrates an appreciation and idolization of nature. The author compares
Beatrice to flowers:
Soon there emerged from under a sculptured portal the figure of a young girl, arrayed with as much
richness of taste as the most splendid of the flowers,

The Pros And Cons Of Video Game
Video games encompass the lives of teenagers and young adults around the world , connecting them to
new people to use teamwork to take down their enemy. Video games are great because it helps people
with teamwork and communication skills. Some of the most popular video games are first person
shooters. These games put you into a simulation of war where you see through the eyes of a soldier.
This makes it so you feel like you are in the game of war which can be very exhilarating and fun. Two
video games of this genre stand out in my mind, and they are the Battlefield Series and the Call of
Duty Series. They are both the top sellers in their style of games and if you ask a random teenager, he
will know exactly what you are talking about. The thing about these two though are the conflicting
sides of the people who buy them. These games both have millions of fans that argue for their game of
choice but some of them are wrong, and this is why. Being more specific about some Call of Duty
games we will talk about Black Ops 2 which is one of the best ones to come out. They both have the
same ideas of eliminating the other team to achieve ultimate victory, but they are different in the way
that Battlefield 1 is more of a simulation of real battle and Call of Duty is more of an arcade style
game that is fast paced and takes less skill. Battlefield 1 uses more real life things such as bullet drop
so people who are moving are harder to hit. The reason it is real life is because of the game engine,
called frostbite, uses weather to affect the players, sometimes fog will roll in and make it difficult to
see the enemies until they are right in front of you. The game engine also makes it so that if you shoot
a building with a tank, it will crumble and if you happen to be standing under it, the debris would kill
you. People may say that this makes the game harder or more annoying but it also makes the game
distinct and more of a thrill to play because you never know what s going to happen in a game. With
Black Ops 2 however, it is more of an arcade shooter and less of a simulation. What I mean by this is
that it is supposed to be very fast and easier to pick up the basics to be good at the game. This game
also is very

Effective Control Capacity Of Administration
After strategies are planned and arrangements are made, management s essential assignment is to
make moves to guarantee that these arrangements are done, or, if conditions warrant, that the
arrangements are adjusted. This is the discriminating control capacity of administration. Also since
administration includes guiding the exercises of others, a real piece of the control capacity are
verifying other individuals do what ought to be done. In numerous circumstances, a control
framework manufactured around estimation and criticism is not attainable. Furthermore actually when
plausibility is not a restriction, utilization of an input situated control framework is frequently a
second rate result. Yet, great controls might be made and kept up utilizing different procedures. In the
event that all work forces dependably did what was best for the association, control and even
administration would not be required (Krajewski, 2007). However, clearly people are once in a while
incapable or unwilling to act in the association s best investment, and a set of controls must be
actualized to make preparations for undesirable conduct and to empower alluring activities. One
paramount class of issues against which control frameworks guard may be called individual
constraints. Individuals don t generally comprehend what is anticipated from them or how they can
best perform their employments, as they may fail to offer some imperative capacity, preparing, or data.

Let s examine Naturalistic observation first. To start, what is naturalistic observation? This term is
defined as the inconspicuous (as much as possible) observation of an individual/group in their natural

nation. Today, there are over 9 million members of the Greek communities and the number is
continuously growing each year ( Greek Life Statistics ). The terms fraternity and sorority describe
groups of men and women who join together to offer fellowship, academic support, leadership

Libor, the London Interbank Lending Rate, is considered to be one of the most important rates in
finance because trillions of financial contracts utilize this rate. Libor is used globally as a base interest
rate in which it is used to set up a range of financial deals. It is also used as measure for financial
institutions to gauge their trust level in the financial system and to check each institutions financial
health. This rate is determined by a group of leading banks that submit the rates of ten different
currencies and fifteen lengths of loans, which range from overnight to twelve months. The most
important part is the three month dollar Libor , which is the rate that other banks would borrow from
each other for three months. Traders managed to manipulate this rate because the rates submitted are
estimates; it would be relatively easy to submit false figures. Traders at several banks conspired to
influence the Libor by getting colleagues to submit rates that were higher or lower than their actual
estimate.
Libor is an interest rate that is determined by the rates at which banks lend funds to each other on the
London interbank market. Every day the banks submit their borrowing costs to the Thomson Reuters
data collection service in which an agent calculates out Libor. The agent discards the highest and
lowest quarter of submissions and then averages out the remaining rates to calculate out Libor for the

The Use Of Drugs In Sports
This week s recitation readings touched on a topic that both frightens and intrigues me. While the I
have always been aware of the presence of performance enhancing drugs and the consequences of
such in sport and other physical areas of competition, I have never taken the time to expand on such
thought in any way that might suggest that similar enhancements through the use of drugs or other
means may take place in an academic or intellectual realm. As presented in all four provided articles,
chemical mental enhancement through current prescription drugs and developing pharmaceuticals is

What does a naked woman have to do in a men s cologne advertisement? Well the adver tisement
companies think that sex sells. When women is objectified, they are being degraded of their character
as a human. These days young women especially, they are being objectified to sell goods and services
using their looks and not their knowledge. In the article Objectification of Women in Entertainment
Media by Jon Barber, explains how the objectification of women in society is a trend that is
developing in the entertainment of media today. Barber points out it is specifically in movies, music
videos, music, television, and in the advertisement industries there is strong focus on women as sexual
objects rather than women. What Barber is saying it is true; an example of this is one of the Tom Ford
Ad (see image below). What is a men s fragrance cologne doing in between a woman s breasts?
Barber goes on to say that the media is creating social stereotypes for both men and women that can
result in un healthy social and physical habits which is catastrophic to society. (Barber par 1) This is
unfor tunate; there is no escape from these Ads, because the average of advertisements being watched
by a woman is about 400 to 600 per day. (Qtd. In Effects on Women)
Why is advertisement that amplifies objectification of women bad? A report by the American
Psychological Association says

Themes Of Oppression In Crown Of Midnight By Sarah J Maas
Celaena heard it now as if for the first time, the story of a Fae blessed with a horrible, profound power
that was sought by kings and lords in every kingdom. While they used her to win wars and conquer
nations, they all feared her―and kept their distance (118). Sarah J Maas is an American Author best
recognized for her Throne of Glass series. Its second installment, Crown of Midnight, follows Celaena
as she spars with her loyalty. One grievous night forces her to choose allies and foes. To emphasize the
focal idea, Maas utilizes themes of rebellion, oppression, and death.
First and foremost, a crucial theme embedded is rebellion. The King of Adarlan is recognized as a
megalomaniac, from his own son to the prisoners in Callaculla. He is on a quest to conquer all of
Erilea. But in order to do so, he is in need of somebody to do all of his dirty work, and that is when
Celaena comes into the light. Her task is to kill the King s enemies. Conversely, she disobeys direct
orders. I haven t killed any of the people the king commanded me to assassinate (184). When she
consults it with her friend Chaol, he is livid. If the king finds out, he will force Chaol to kill Celaena
as punishment for being her friend. Chaol attempts to talk sense into Celaena by calling those men
traitors to the crown. She scoffs, Traitors. For refusing to grovel before a conqueror? For sheltering
escaped slaves trying to get home? For daring to believe in a world that s better than this gods
forsaken

Routine Treatment For MRSA
Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus; MRSA
According to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIH) Staphylococcus Aureus
(S. Aureus) was first discovered in the 1880s. The S. Aureus infection caused pain on site, boils, and
scaled skin. The S. Aureus infection can cause bacterial pneumonia or bacteria in the blood stream
which can have fatal effects. In the 1940s the use of the antibiotics such as penicillin became a routine
treatment for the infection. The consistent treatment using antibiotics lead to the bacteria evolving and
becoming resistant to the drugs that were fighting the bacteria. In the late 1950s scientist developed
methicillin, which is a form of penicillin, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
aureus bacteria has developed strains that are resistant to Penicillin, Methicillin, amoxicillin, and more
antibiotics. There are even reports of strains that are resistant to Vancomycin. If this development in
MRSA continues, it is greatly feared that we will run out of defenses against MRSA. However,
doctors and scientists are strategizing and researching to prevent the development of MRSA. One
strategy that is currently in clinical trial stages is the treatment of simple CA MRSA cases with off
patent antimicrobial medications. This will limit the MRSA bacterias exposure to the more commonly
relied upon medications and hopefully reduce the chance of it developing more resistance. Current
research may even change how MRSA is treated in the future. Scientists are analyzing how the MRSA
bacteria works in attempts to develop new and better medications in its treatment. Scientists have
recently discovered Phenol Soluble Modulin (PSM) Proteins in MRSA bacteria. It is believed that
these proteins play a key role in the strength and severity of MRSA infections. The PSM proteins
destroy white blood cells and most other immune cells. Without these cells the body cannot protect
itself from MRSA. Scientists today hope to create a drug that can prevent the PSM proteins from
functioning. If this can be accomplished, the severity and threat of MRSA will be greatly

Why I Want To Pursue A Career In Radiation Oncology
I would like to be considered for the D.Phil. position in Radiation Oncology at the University of
Oxford and hope to demonstrate my ability to excel in this position. I am hard working and extremely
keen to pursue a career in science and would be well suited to undertake a D.Phil. in the field of
Radiation Oncology. I am clinically qualified as my undergraduate was in Medicine and Surgery,
following my graduation I chose to pursue a career in cancer sciences so I joined university of
Glasgow (MSc Cancer sciences). My undergraduate study was composed of two parts, the first three
years were dedicated to basic medical sciences while the latter three years were clinically oriented as
the teaching was conducted in a variety of supervised inpatient and outpatient settings. My post
graduate study at the University of Glasgow has prepared me for this position as it involved a great
deal of independent research, requiring ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In my home country, Jordan, Cancer is the second leading cause of death placing a great pressure on
the health system. Therefore, more researches into the different fields of oncology are urgently needed
to enhance the outcome of treatment. My interest in perusing a research degree in the field of
Radiation Oncology is driven by my belief that research into Radiation oncology is a cornerstone in
improving patients outcomes, for example, understanding the molecular and cellular response to
radiotherapy, will help to identify novel targets that can be combined with radiotherapy to improve
treatment outcome. Unfortunately, Jordan is missing this opportunity despite the availability of
sufficient funding and infrastructure, although the reason behind this is most likely to be
multifactorial, I think one of the critical reasons would be the lack of researchers in this

Analysis Of The Film 3 Of Yuma
In the film 3:10 to Yuma emphasizes a family of four going through a downside, and in order to
recover back his home, save the town, is to be a hero. The hero needs to catch the suspect that is
ruining the town, and killing innocent people. Therefore, the suspect needs to be escorted to a train
that goes to Yuma, but it only comes at a certain time, which is at 3:10 pm. That hero is Dan Evans
that has a lot of experience with weapons because he comes from the civil war. Also Evans has a
missing leg that prevents him from doing things that he cannot do before. However, he has a son name
William Evans that looks up to him, but Dan manages a way to save the town, so he can have a happy
family. Ben wade is the killer that is looking for trouble, along with his crew, and also has escaped
from prison twice. Although, in reality not all heroes wear capes or have super powers, but has a mind
that can control the situation to help out the community, for a happy life.
A hero is does not have to apply to a fairytale, movie, or a book, but a person, who likes to help out an
individual, or the community from killing, raping, or even bullying. In the beginning of the movie
Evans noticed gun shots outside of his ranch, and he saw part of place was getting burn. He knew who
was the person, and was disappointed because he owed money, but he manages somehow to payback.
Linda Seger points out Generally, the hero begins as a non hero; innocent, young, simple, or humble

The Intensive Care Unit-Personal Narrative
It was the worst thing in my life. One sip of the wrong drink and my best friend, Brady, was in the
Intensive Care Unit, with a small change of survival. How was I supposed to know that his ex
boyfriend was going to poison the water supply? No one is supposed to know about that, until it
already happened. I suppose I had previously known, albeit directly. I had become aware that Brady
and his ex were fighting, and his ex had spoken to me the next day, saying that Brady was going to get
what was coming to him. I didn t think much of it at the time, and I neglected to tell Brady because he
was dealing with a complication of emotions, I would assume. I had decided to wait until Brady was
feeling a bit better about the incident, and it almost killed him. I had ... Show more content on

What happened? Why don t I remember anything? After that whisky, which was WAY too hot for you,
I imagine, Brady chuckled a bit, You started to chug a bunch of tap water, and less than a minute later,
you fell to the ground, rattling faster than a rattlesnake. It would have been funny, if you weren t
almost dying, I summarized. There is something else I need to tell you about, but you won t like it. Let
s hear it. The day before yesterday, your ex asked me to speak to him in private. Of course, I agreed to.
Oh, don t give me that look, you know I can t say no. Anyways, he wanted to persuade me into
believing his side of the story about the fight between you two. He is a horrible liar, and an even worse
boyfriend, no wonder you broke up with him, he s horrible! Right before he left, he says that you
would be getting what was coming to you What?! Why didn t you tell me? Brady interjected. I knew
you were in a lot of pain from the break up, so I didn t want you to be paranoid on top of that. I never

The Landing Gear For Aircraft
The final portion of an aircraft to be created is the landing gear. Before this can be done, all of the
other major pieces of the aircraft must be completed. These parts include the propulsion system, the
tail, the wing, and the fuselage (Malev Virtual Training Division, 2005). Before the landing gear is
designed, the stability of the aircraft must be proven, by establishing its center of gravity (Federal
Aviation Administration, 2014). In a few circumstances, the structure of the aircraft my need to be
changed by the designer in order to accommodate the landing gear. The main roles of the landing gear
include stability of the aircraft during taxi and on the ground, loading, and unloading. The landing
gear allows the aircraft to move and maneuver freely during taxing. The landing gear also separates
main components of the aircraft like the fuselage and the wing while the aircraft is on the ground
(Federal Aviation Administration, 2014). This is intended to keep the aircraft from contacting the
ground which could cause damage. Additionally, the landing gear absorbs impact as a shock during
and aircraft s landing operation. Finally, the landing gear assists in the take off of the aircraft by
providing acceleration and rotation with the least amount of friction possible (Federal Aviation
Administration, 2014). Features of the landing gear designed for the Boeing 737 will be discussed in
order to give a more informative depiction of how a landing gear system works.

Discussion Questions On Marcel Duchamp s Urinal Painting
Kimberly Greene Professor Whiting HUMN 2002 Art March 11, 2017 Art Assessment II Task 1:
Artist: Marcel Duchamp Title: Fountain Signed: R. Mutt Year: 1917 Task 2: Do you think this is art?
Is it art or not, why? Yes, I believe that Marcel Duchamp s urinal painting is considered art because it
served as some type of meaning or purpose to him. He was inspired in some way to paint this type of
artwork/painting. One can interpret it in more ways than one. Some may not even understand it, but
somehow Duchamp did and that is all that matters. So, therefore, this is what led to him painting such
a feature and that is why I would consider it as a piece of art. Task 3: Find information on Fountain.
Consider concepts. (Write additional notes here.) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His famous painting, titled Fountain, is viewed as one of Duchamp s most famous works and is widely
seen as an icon of 20th century art. (Tate). Therefore, I believe if it changed how people viewed
Conceptual art and artwork throughout that era/time period, then it is considered as such a famous
piece of artwork. While some may not understand the point of Duchamp s painting of the urinal,
others find much needed purpose to it. If it outlined and changed such an era/time period of art, then I
would say Duchamp set a new limit on what is to be or not to be considered art. I believe art is what
comes from the inside the inner soul and what draws through because what lies within you, serves as a
meaning to not only you, but to others as well. While, some people look at a piece of art or artwork
and somehow find no meaning to it, and think, Oh, I could have done that by just dabbing or throwing
a little paint on the canvas, others find meanings to these pieces of artwork. To me, I believe that all
artwork has a meaning and serves a purpose to the artist and/or painter. While we may not understand
all of the concepts highlighted in a painting, such as this one, or in any such artwork, I believe that we
can still get something out of it, as a whole. By saying this, I believe that this is exactly what
Duchamp did and believed, that you couldn t define art, and that is why I consider Duchamp s famous
piece, Fountain, which drastically changed the views/concepts of Conceptual art period/era, a piece of

  • 2. Glue In Romeo And Juliet Glue can be viewed as a sticky mess; however, it is the mold and foundation for the basis of many things. Glue is a binder for many things including art projects and practical crafts. Much like how literal glue sticks objects together, metaphoric glue keeps order. For instance, a father is the glue of a family because he is a protector, a money maker, and a lover. In the dramatic play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, two families feuds have to keep lovers apart until their deaths. Their families start to fall apart as the mold holding them together does as well. Young Juliet ends her life far too early because her father, Lord Capulet, has a wrath that is too much to put up a fight with. Her father gives her orders that she refuses to take, but unfortunately he does not like to hear the word no. Nonetheless, chaos unfolds to what seems to be no end. Ultimately, Lord Capulet s power and temper both weakens and strengthens the glue that holds together the Capulet name. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Social Responsibility Of Art In Art, Art And Art Art has been around for thousands of years. It is a way of expressing oneself and making a personal connection to the world around us. Art is much more than a brush stroking against a canvas it is a part of our imagination come to life in the form a film, drawing, music, and literature. Because of how much art can impact society, we must have a social responsibility as a community to enforce the learning and practice of the arts. Art can be used as a way of reaching out to preach about racial prejudices. Excuse Me, Can I see Your ID? is an art exhibit created by Lonnie Lee. Lee is an Asian American woman who designed this museum as means of showing the harsh truth Asian Americans face on the daily. Excuse Me, Can I See Your ID? is not intended for the white gaze. (Frank). This exhibit shows what the white dominated art world does not. Each piece of work tells the story of different individuals and their struggles of what it is like conforming in America where Asians are viewed as perpetual foreigners . From one medium to another, the Black Arts Movement, which lasted from 1965 to 1975, was a great impact on society. Following the assassination of Malcolm X, black people came together to protest their liberty. While it had the most effect in theatre and poetry, African Americans spoke their minds through literature, visual arts, and music. Not only reaching cultural recognition and economic success, the Black Arts Movement brought about modern day hip hop and spoken word. The arts have a way of bringing a community together by having people discuss a certain topic or controversy currently going on in the world. The arts open minds and hearts to something previously overlooked or bashed on it breaks barriers. When we sit in that darkened theatre or walk through a well lit gallery, it opens us to experiences different from our own pasts and futures we ll never experience in our lifetimes. It opens us to compassion. It opens us to dialogue, new ideas, and new understanding. (Robinson). In cities filled with crime, violence, and poverty, artists Dre Urhahn and Jeroen Koolhaas were able to bring a community of people together. These two men traveled all the way to favelas slums in Brazil to transform ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay On Health Information Exchange Introduction I will be focusing on defining a Health Information Exchange, including the aspects of the various formats; how Health Information Exchanges developed over time, including the hurdles that had to be overcome; and where Health Information Exchanges are heading, along with expected hurdles and improvements. The development has been much slower than expectations, but the future looks promising. What is HIE? Health Information Exchanges (HIEs) share patient information between health care providers in order to improve the speed, quality, safety, and cost of patient care. By sharing data, physicians improve their decision making, as well as reduce readmissions, avoid medication errors, improve diagnoses, and decrease duplicate testing. Aside from these benefits, the use of electronic data requires healthcare providers to standardize their data. There are three forms of exchanges the direct exchange, query based exchange, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This service, once the patient is identified, searches for the existence of records within the exchange. This form of information retrieval would be very helpful to the care of a patient, most specifically in the case of emergency care (Morris, 2012). The Emergency Dept could begin a query at the time of triage to build a problem list, allergy list, medication list, current physicians and ongoing treatments. The costs associated with developing a record locator service, and the questionable sustainability in a market lacking interoperability between the available EHRs, have impeded the development of this form of exchange (Rudin,2014).It has been difficult for HIEs using this format to reach their tipping point to become self sustaining. There are several determinants driving the success of Query based HIOs the need for a broader set of clinical data, more diverse and high volumes of data, obtaining relevant users that need the database, and utilization rates (Morris, ... • 5. The Law of Attraction The Law of Attraction Many people in this world live their lives without any aspirations towards greatness. They think that they don t stand a chance of fulfilling any of the dreams or goals they might have. Their idea of dreams coming true are far from their imagination and stick around with the absurd idea of keeping their feet in the ground and stop day dreaming or even think about it. What they don t know is that by just thinking about it, they re much closer to their dream than what they thought they were. There are several steps to follow though, steps that will make you reach your goal a lot faster with just using your mind and that are what I d like to demonstrate you. For a long time a thing such as the law of attraction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Basically every thought you have will contribute to what what s going on in your mind, whether you want it or not if you think about it you ll attract it. Some people say that this is where the saying Be careful with what you wish for comes from. It doesn t matter if it s for good or bad by having it in your head you just might get it. The law of attraction has been with us always, whether you knew about it or not (Byrne 58). Where we could see it a lot is with children. Take me for example, when I was little I used to dream about going to Disney World. I would see the commercials and I would see myself there also. Playing, meeting my favorite characters, getting on all the rides and just simply having fun. I would pray and ask my parents to take me. Down deep inside of me I knew I was going to be able to go one day, I never lost hope. Until one day my aunt decided to organize a trip for the whole family and I just couldn t believe it! After all that wishing and hoping I finally got to go and made my biggest dream come true. That s exactly what a person needs to do, have faith that you re going to receive it and just like a child, don t worry on the how and when to receive it. Just wait and have that certainty of being able to have it at the right time at the right moment. What also keeps a lot of people away from their goals is their fear. • 6. American Born Chinese Assimilation The stories American Born Chinese by Gene Lang, Linh Lai by Rebecca Rosenblum and Tapka by David Bezmozgis all follow the lives of immigrants and first generation born Canadians/Americans. These stories are diverse both in the ethnicity of the characters and in their experiences. However, they are all summative of the detriment of the immigrant experience, which is a universal struggle. These stories, through their diversity and similarity, give the cumulative theme that assimilation often does more harm than good, and that it widely contributes to isolation, loneliness and loss of identity. Linh is constantly torn between Vietnamese and Canadian culture to the point where she begins to question her identity and lose her ties to both cultures. Throughout the story, Lihn s name is never used. She is instead referred to as either Jinny or Xing. However, neither name belongs to a certain culture. Linh notices that All the white Jinnys have a different sound in their names from the ihh in hers (Rosenblum 1). Xing is a name given to her by her employer to make her sound more foreign but It s not a Vietnamese name. It s not a Canadian name. It s a no name (3). Linh is forced into a new culture and that ultimately strips her of any identity. Linh is torn between two cultures by Koenburg (her employer) and her uncle. Koenburg wants to preserve her Vietnamese identity for the integrity of his restaurant. Her uncle, on the other hand wishes for her to leave her old identity behind and assimilate to Canadian culture. This causes conflict for Linh as she is constantly being pulled in two directions. An example of this would be when Linh gets a new pair of shoes. Her uncle approves of the new Canadian shoes (7). However, Koenburg disapproves stating that [they] are not Vietnamese (7). Linh is so conflicted between the two cultures and her two identities that she ends up feeling void of any identity. This is reflected in her life in one of the movies she watches. The film cuts off before the credits, denying the actors and contributors of their identities much like she is being denied of hers (6). The story ends with Linh falling off a skateboard and hitting her head. Koenburg and her friend Jimmy are both shouting Jinny and Xing, but She has no idea who they re talking to (12). • 7. Symbolism In Lord Of The Flies Analysis His head opened and stuff came out and turned red. Piggy s arms and legs twitched a bit like a pig after it has been killed (217). This is what can happen to someone when all signs of civilization, order and power disappear and have no more meaning to members of a group or society. In the writing of William Golding s Lord of the Flies (1954), the symbol of power and civilization is the conch. Once that is lost, all bets are off. When the novel begins, two boys are talking about what has happened and why they are on this island. While walking on the beach, the main character Ralph then proceeds to find a shell which the two boys call the conch. Blowing on this shell Ralph calls a meeting where the boys lay out rules and decide they need a signal fire to be rescued from this island on which there are no adults and no females. During the meeting Jack, a choir boy, decides to organize a group of hunters to hunt for food. As the story progresses, Ralph finds himself and Jack to be enemies. Then the lord of the flies begins to emerge within the group, many of whom begin to take on savage behavior, and end up killing Simon. Jack then decides to go and start his own tribe; he and a lot of the others do so. Even as the conflict increases between the two rivals, there is ongoing respect for the conch. The same savages later kill the character Piggy who was not doing anything to them except trying to get his glasses back that were stolen to make the fire. Then they try to kill ... Marion Nestle describes in her article that if [customers] find [themselves] in a supermarket buying on impulse and not minding a bit, [they] are behaving exactly the way store managers want [them] to (504). The constant background music, fresh smell of bakery, and endless food samples are just some of the methods supermarkets use to as a form of distraction. • 9. The Theories of Freud and Jung 1. Freud s essay on The Sexual Aberrations posits the existence of a sexual urge, called libido , which Freud finds analogous to hunger. Freud suggests that, like hunger, the libido manifests itself more or less from birth. The chief question for Freud in this paper is why libido should manifest itself in unexpected ways as with inversion , which is the slightly old fashioned term that Freud uses for homosexuality. Freud rather unexpectedly relies on the suggestion that mucus membranes in general are susceptible to sexual stimulation in his opinion, this accounts for such varied phenomena as kissing, thumbsucking, and anal sex. Freud then goes on to explain foot fetishism and other sexual fascination with inanimate objects in terms of primitive religion: This substitution is not unjustly compared with the fetich in which the savage sees the embodiment of his god. (Freud 1910). Freud goes on to explain other aberrations, such as Sado Masochism, in terms of their attempt to cope with an overvaluation of the sexual object. The idealistic impulses of love are seen, by Freud, as perhaps even more evident in people who love whips or feet. Ultimately Freud brings it back to the nature of the hypothesized infantile sexuality in Freud s belief, this has no natural object and is expressed in all directions at once. By contemporary scientific standards, Freud s essay is a mess. To take the most obvious example, Freud died in 1939: this is the same year that the Nobel Prize in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Domestic Violence And An Imperative Social Problem Domestic violence is one of the world s leading dilemmas. It is occurring in our backyards or the homes of our next door neighbors. In our everyday world this issue has been accepted, tolerated and greatly associated within various relationships. Music does an excellent job in referencing this matter in countless songs. For example, a pop single by The Crystals He Hit Me (And It Felt Like A Kiss) in (1962) uses amusing vocals with corroding strings and sorrowful drums to enhance this song and shed light on the issue of domestic violence, which describes that eventually individuals in our society become prone to the horrific phenomenon. Another example, is the blues song Outside Of That from the album Mama s got the blues (1923) by Bessie Smith. This song also exemplifies how love can make you accepting to corrupt mechanisms in intimate relationships. 2. Issue Discussion Domestic violence is an epidemic and an imperative social problem. It occurs in all age crowds and ethnic groups. According to the United States Department of Justice, domestic violence is illegal and defined as a routine or a pattern of abusive behaviors in any relationship. It is portrayed by one partner to achieve or maintain control above another. Some of the common abuse forms are physical, emotional, sexual, economical and psychological (DOJ pg.1 2014). • 11. Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children, Power Relationships... Introduction This essay explores how unaccompanied asylum seeking children (UASC) are oppressed in the UK. An unaccompanied asylum seeking child is a person under the age of eighteen who has left their country of origin in order to seek refuge and is separated from both parents and are not being cared for by an adult who, by law or custom has responsibility to do so (UNHCR, 1994:121). They are therefore applying for asylum in their own right. Discrimination is the process of identifying that someone is different and, due to this difference, treating them unfairly (Thompson, 2006). Xenoracism is discrimination that is aimed at people specifically because they are from a different country, and are therefore strangers (Sivanandan, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Power is the capacity to act in such a way as to control others (Harris, 1997:28). He argues that everyone has at least some power, and that this power, for the relatively powerless, can be used to influence the decisions of the dominant group. Unaccompanied asylum seeking children not disclosing information can be seen as them exercising the little power they have. This can however have a negative impact on their lives in the UK, for example, being placed under section 17 of the Children Act instead of under section 20, which would offer the child more support. Foucault (1977) uses discourse to relate to how language can be used to construct ideas and thoughts about groups. Discourses and language can therefore help construct or reduce oppression (Thompson, 2006). If a group has power, they have the ability and opportunity to fulfil or obstruct personal, relational, or collective needs (Prilleltensky, 2008). If the dominant discourse of a less powerful group is positive, the group with power may help that group fulfil their needs. If the dominant discourse of a less powerful group is negative, such as with UASC, the powerful group may obstruct them in fulfilling their needs, and therefore will cause oppression. Innes (2010) argues that the negative discourse of asylum seekers as a threat to British society is portrayed in government literature ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Descriptive Essay On A Water Park The wet and wild idea The sun was bright and there was warmth in the air so it was a great day to go to a water park with my friend Darcy. We were going to be the first ones down the huge water slide. We had been waiting all night and day to go down this exciting ride. There needs to be four people to go down this water slide but there are just the two of us so we will just need to try and get a lot of speed up at the start and hope that we can get to the end of the water slide. We want to be the first ones down it but we look to our right and there are hundreds of people waiting to go down it. We need to think of a plan to get around the huge line of people. There s a lifeguard blocking the only way to get up to the water slide so we will have to be careful there so they won t catch us sneaking past the line. We will have to distract the lifeguard. Darcy you will need to tell the lifeguard that someone is stealing his car. Then we can crab a raft and run up the stairs to the top of the water slide. We can quickly jump onto the raft and go down the water slide. When we get to the end of the waterslide we will run to the busiest pool and jump into the busiest pool so that the lifeguards can t spot us. Ok that s the plan now we have to do that, Darcy muttered. Ok the water slide jets turn on in five minutes so we have five minutes to find a hiding spot. It would be a good idea to hide near the rafts so that we can grab one straight away and run up the stairs Darcy said . ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. The Laws Of Evidence From The Criminal Court In chapter one, we discuss the history of the rules of evidence and how the rules of evidence became applicable to our modern society. The use of evidence was deeply established during the creation of the American colonies. In comparison to many developed countries at the time, the common law was embraced to implement a set of guidelines to punish any wrongful acts and/or to ultimately deter criminal behavior in society. Ideally, the utilization of evidence was used and is still used to corroborate whether an individual is guilty or innocent in the court of law. The application of evidence in determining whether an individual is guilty or innocent has varied on a judicial spectrum throughout time. Today, evidence is crucial in determining the guilt of an individual, as our country has set in stone the importance of societies constitutional rights; ultimately, one is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Evidence that is beyond a reasonable doubt is used to guarantee a lawful conviction within the criminal court. Earlier methods of determining a conviction in the criminal court clearly lacked the structure and fundamentals of modern civilization. The use of ordeals was a common practice in 1066 in determining a standard proof of guilt or innocence. Many hierarchies varied their ordeals, basing death as a sign of innocence. For instance, the ordeal by water became a common determination of an individual s guilt. However, the act itself had no clear foundation in determining ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, the American society had its flaws despite all the success it was having. One of the most popular novels of the time, The Cather In The Rye written by JD Salinger, discussed the flaws in the society Americans had failed to realize. Throughout the novel, Salinger criticized many aspects of American Society such as the idea of conformity and the ignorance of teenager s lives. One of Salinger s criticism on American society was the idea of conformity where everyone was to match with one another. During the 1950s, Americans were following these norms of behaving in the same way as one another. For example, they lived in houses that looked identical, wore the same types of clothing and many others. Richard Powers stated in Life of a 1950s Teenagers, What I remember most about the 50s were rules. Rules, rules, rules... for everything. Rules about clothes which clothes you could wear when. [...] Rules about streets. Rules about play. Rules were placed on every American, especially children, on how to act at certain places, what to wear and others. These norms slowly became a part of the Americans daily lives. In The Catcher In The Rye, Salinger opposed the idea of conformity through the main character, Holden Caufield. The topic of high stakes testing has been supported and discredited by many educators, politicians, and citizens. Nationally, schools are using high stakes testing for a variety of reasons. The American Educational Research Association discussed high stakes testing and issued a statement that read: Many states and school districts mandate testing programs to gather data about student achievement over time and to hold schools and students accountable. Certain uses of achievement test results are termed high stakes if they carry serious consequences for students or educators. Schools may be judged according to the school wide average scores for their students. High school wide scores may bring public praise or financial rewards; low scores may bring public embarrassment or heavy sanctions. For individual students, high scores may bring a special diploma attesting to exceptional academic accomplishment; low scores may result in students being held back in grade or denied a high school diploma. The thing about these two though are the conflicting sides of the people who buy them. These games both have millions of fans that argue for their game of choice but some of them are wrong, and this is why. Being more specific about some Call of Duty games we will talk about Black Ops 2 which is one of the best ones to come out. They both have the same ideas of eliminating the other team to achieve ultimate victory, but they are different in the way that Battlefield 1 is more of a simulation of real battle and Call of Duty is more of an arcade style game that is fast paced and takes less skill. Battlefield 1 uses more real life things such as bullet drop so people who are moving are harder to hit. The reason it is real life is because of the game engine, called frostbite, uses weather to affect the players, sometimes fog will roll in and make it difficult to see the enemies until they are right in front of you. The game engine also makes it so that if you shoot a building with a tank, it will crumble and if you happen to be standing under it, the debris would kill you. People may say that this makes the game harder or more annoying but it also makes the game distinct and more of a thrill to play because you never know what s going to happen in a game. Today, there are over 9 million members of the Greek communities and the number is continuously growing each year ( Greek Life Statistics ). The terms fraternity and sorority describe groups of men and women who join together to offer fellowship, academic support, leadership training, participation in campus activities, service to the community and University, and preparation for future careers ( What is Greek Life? ). People that in are the Greek community all have at least one thing in common. Whether they just want to be apart of a sisterhood/brotherhood or deeper things like they all share a common belief or goal. Sororities have five basic benefits: sisterhood, scholarship, leadership, philanthropy (charitable causes/community service), and socializing ( About Sororities ). These benefits are included in the values and beliefs of a sorority as a discourse community. Greeks all speak a language that they learn in the process of becoming part of their fraternity/sorority(recruitment process). Agendas, e mails, and text messages are all forms of a genre. A genre is anything that is written down and shared in the discourse community. Face to face interaction is a way to advertise for events and also another way to advertise for events is through ... Libor, the London Interbank Lending Rate, is considered to be one of the most important rates in finance because trillions of financial contracts utilize this rate. Libor is used globally as a base interest rate in which it is used to set up a range of financial deals. It is also used as measure for financial institutions to gauge their trust level in the financial system and to check each institutions financial health. This rate is determined by a group of leading banks that submit the rates of ten different currencies and fifteen lengths of loans, which range from overnight to twelve months. The most important part is the three month dollar Libor , which is the rate that other banks would borrow from each other for three months. Traders managed to manipulate this rate because the rates submitted are estimates; it would be relatively easy to submit false figures. Traders at several banks conspired to influence the Libor by getting colleagues to submit rates that were higher or lower than their actual estimate. Libor is an interest rate that is determined by the rates at which banks lend funds to each other on the London interbank market. Every day the banks submit their borrowing costs to the Thomson Reuters data collection service in which an agent calculates out Libor. The agent discards the highest and lowest quarter of submissions and then averages out the remaining rates to calculate out Libor for the day. Barclays manipulated this rate by submitting rates ... While the I have always been aware of the presence of performance enhancing drugs and the consequences of such in sport and other physical areas of competition, I have never taken the time to expand on such thought in any way that might suggest that similar enhancements through the use of drugs or other means may take place in an academic or intellectual realm. The potential benefits of taking prescription drugs despite the absence of the intended deficit or ailment has already intrigued desperate high school and college students, and even those not currently in school, such as the military (as seen in the testing of Modafinil by the British Armed forces). Unfortunately, despite the numerous ongoing and completed studies, the true long term effects of these drugs on the physical and mental wellness of healthy citizens is not yet known and the interest in such is only growing and growing so exponentially that many new drugs targeting different, specific areas of the brain are currently in development and could potentially become legally available, ...within the next couple of years (Times 4). In the 1940s the use of the antibiotics such as penicillin became a routine treatment for the infection. However, doctors and scientists are strategizing and researching to prevent the development of MRSA. One strategy that is currently in clinical trial stages is the treatment of simple CA MRSA cases with off patent antimicrobial medications. This will limit the MRSA bacterias exposure to the more commonly relied upon medications and hopefully reduce the chance of it developing more resistance. Current research may even change how MRSA is treated in the future. Scientists are analyzing how the MRSA bacteria works in attempts to develop new and better medications in its treatment. Scientists have recently discovered Phenol Soluble Modulin (PSM) Proteins in MRSA bacteria. It is believed that these proteins play a key role in the strength and severity of MRSA infections. The PSM proteins destroy white blood cells and most other immune cells. Without these cells the body cannot protect itself from MRSA. Scientists today hope to create a drug that can prevent the PSM proteins from functioning. If this can be accomplished, the severity and threat of MRSA will be greatly ... These parts include the propulsion system, the tail, the wing, and the fuselage (Malev Virtual Training Division, 2005). Before the landing gear is designed, the stability of the aircraft must be proven, by establishing its center of gravity (Federal Aviation Administration, 2014). In a few circumstances, the structure of the aircraft my need to be changed by the designer in order to accommodate the landing gear. The main roles of the landing gear include stability of the aircraft during taxi and on the ground, loading, and unloading. The landing gear allows the aircraft to move and maneuver freely during taxing. The landing gear also separates main components of the aircraft like the fuselage and the wing while the aircraft is on the ground (Federal Aviation Administration, 2014). This is intended to keep the aircraft from contacting the ground which could cause damage. Additionally, the landing gear absorbs impact as a shock during and aircraft s landing operation. Discussion Questions On Marcel Duchamp s Urinal Painting Kimberly Greene Professor Whiting HUMN 2002 Art March 11, 2017 Art Assessment II Task 1: Artist: Marcel Duchamp Title: Fountain Signed: R. Mutt Year: 1917 Task 2: Do you think this is art? Is it art or not, why? Yes, I believe that Marcel Duchamp s urinal painting is considered art because it served as some type of meaning or purpose to him. He was inspired in some way to paint this type of artwork/painting. One can interpret it in more ways than one. Some may not even understand it, but somehow Duchamp did and that is all that matters. So, therefore, this is what led to him painting such a feature and that is why I would consider it as a piece of art. Task 3: Find information on Fountain. Consider concepts. (Write additional notes here.) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His famous painting, titled Fountain, is viewed as one of Duchamp s most famous works and is widely seen as an icon of 20th century art. (Tate). Therefore, I believe if it changed how people viewed Conceptual art and artwork throughout that era/time period, then it is considered as such a famous piece of artwork. While some may not understand the point of Duchamp s painting of the urinal, others find much needed purpose to it. If it outlined and changed such an era/time period of art, then I would say Duchamp set a new limit on what is to be or not to be considered art. I believe art is what comes from the inside the inner soul and what draws through because what lies within you, serves as a meaning to not only you, but to others as well. While, some people look at a piece of art or artwork and somehow find no meaning to it, and think, Oh, I could have done that by just dabbing or throwing a little paint on the canvas, others find meanings to these pieces of artwork. To me, I believe that all artwork has a meaning and serves a purpose to the artist and/or painter. While we may not understand all of the concepts highlighted in a painting, such as this one, or in any such artwork, I believe that we can still get something out of it, as a whole. By saying this, I believe that this is exactly what Duchamp did and believed, that you couldn t define art, and that is why I consider Duchamp s famous piece, Fountain, which drastically changed the views/concepts of Conceptual art period/era, a piece of ...
