Essay On Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire
In the 19th and 20th centuries, factories were very unsafe places to work, yet they were where most
people found jobs. Factories had accidents all of the time, but the most notable of the tragedies is the
Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire. The results of this event and many other factory accidents in the late
19th and early 20th centuries led to better overall conditions for workers, especially immigrant
workers. In the case of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire, employees were forced to work under
horrible conditions. Many times, the employers abused their workers by setting clocks in the factory
backwards which forced their workers to unknowingly work longer shifts for the same amount of pay.
Also, most factory buildings in this time were highly unsafe, especially the Triangle Shirtwaist
Factory Fire in 1911. The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire in 1911 was the case of 146 deaths and 71
injuries. These numbers are so high primarily because of how dangerous the building was to work in.
The Triangle Factory was 9 stories high, with the shirtwaist factory on ... Show more content on

They do not not care, but simply are unable to relate to it. However, the girls who were killed in the
fire have many similarities with teenagers today. Anna Altman was only 16 when her life was taken
from her. She moved to the United States from Russia and was only working in the factories to make a
better life for herself and for her family. Josephine Cammarata was a 17 year old Catholic girl who
had lived in the United States for only 2 years. Josephine was supposed to be married the following
Sunday to the love of her life, but their love was stolen prematurely. Jennie Franco was born in
America exactly 16 years before the fire. She was killed on her 16th birthday. Provindenza Panno was
the oldest worker in the factory at age 43. She moved to the U.S. 6 years before her death and left

Anthropogenic Sources Of Energy
Methane. Methane is the second most prevalent GHG emitted by anthropogenic sources, with
anthropogenic emissions accounting for approximately 70 80% of the total CH4 emissions (EPA,
2015; Johnson and Johnson, 1995). Emissions of methane have increased exponentially from the pre
industrial period to present day. During the years 1000 1750, CH4 concentrations in the atmosphere
were approximately 700 parts per billion by volume (ppbv) (IPCC, 2001; EPA, 2015). In the year
2015, CH4 concentrations had risen to approximately 1,864 ppbv, an increase of 166% (NOAA/
ESRL, 2015b). Although CH4 has a relatively short AL of only 12 years, it has a GWP value of 25

Due to the complex process involving OH, when CH4 emissions increase, OH concentrations
decrease, which can increase the AL of CH4 (IPCC, 2013; EPA, 2015). Nitrous Oxide. Nitrous Oxide
emissions have increased by 20%, from 270 ppbv during the pre industrial period to approximately
316 ppbv in the year 2000 (IPCC, 2001; NOAA/ ESRL, 2015b). Although the total N2O emissions are
much lower than CO2; N2O has an atomic lifetime of 114 years and a GWP value of 298, therefore, it
is approximately 300 times more powerful at trapping heat in the atmosphere and increasing the GHE
when compared to CO2 (EPA, 2015). The main sources of anthropogenic N2O emissions includes;
agricultural soils (nitrogen fixing crops and forages), fertilizers (synthetic and manure), feces
deposition from livestock, fossil fuel combustion (predominantly mobile combustion), nylon and nitric
acid production, waste water treatment, and waste incineration and biomass burning (EPA, 2015).
Trace gases and small molecules. Other trace gases and small molecules that influence the GHE and
GW include; ozone (O3), halocarbons, carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxides (NOx), non methane
volatile organic compounds (NMVOCs), and aerosols (EPA, 2015). Atmospheric

Radicalism in Mary Wollstonecraft’s Writing
Radicalism in Mary Wollstonecraft s Writing
(Which author is more radical for her day?) In the years of the late 1700 s and early 1800 s women s
rights were unheard of. Women didn t get a higher education like the men did. They would mostly
learn about etiquette and how to cook and clean. The father of the daughter would choose who she
would marry, it would always be based on money, and family tithes. Women were treated as property
and she was owned by her father and mother tells she was wedded, and then her husband would own
her. But in theses years is when women started to more or less rebel and come out with new and
radical ideas. In the article by Jone Lewis she states, Mary Wollstonecraft has been called the first
feminist or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the article titled, Family Structure in Colonial times, the author states, Now, all along, there was the
occasional crack in the system, granting that a woman could take care of children in the tender years
three or seven years old. This meant that children were really never raised in a great way and they
were soon sent to work in factories, leaving the mother heartbroken.
The last reason Wollstonecraft s writing is more radical is the fact that she wants everyone to give
women a chance; if it doesn t work she won t mind taking the blame. In her essay she states, Let me
become more chaste and modest, and if women do not grow wiser in the same ratio it will be clear that
they have weaker understandings. She wasn t positive that women would succeed with more rights,
but she still was fighting for a chance for them. It was a huge step to put herself on the line because if
women had begun to get rights, but it was in fact true that they weren t as smart, the blame would be
put on her. In the article Colonial Times, the author states, During the 18th century, the women s role
and work was extremely difficult, exhausting, and society was unappreciative. This proves that
women worked hard from the start and if they could just get some more education they could be as
successful as men.
Overall, Mary Wollstonecraft put a huge impact on women s rights in the early 1800 s,

Collin effortlessly distinguished the novel for viewers of all ages. The novel is not only a detective

fascinating one is viewing the novel in a psychological approach. The reason is because in the novel

This not only demonstrates the level of social standards their in but also their capacity for reasoning.
This allegation also proves that the stone is cursed. The Indian talks about the vengeance the stone
will have on the individual that possesses it. The diamond meant so much to these Indians that they
felt compelled to risk their own life so that they may maintain possession of it for their religious
purpose. Although, this jewel meant so much to these innocent Indians, to the others that stole it only
meant money. The moonstone was extremely well known. For example when Betteredge says: We,
have been talking of the loss of the Indian diamond, in my aunt s house in Yorkshire, two years since.
Mr. Buff thinks, as I think, that the whole story ought, in the interest of the truth, to be placed on

The Civil War And The American War
The question of what caused the Civil War is debatable because there are several events that may have
influenced the war such as the Western Expansion, Manifest Destiny and the Mexican American War.
The war also stems from slavery, the North and South basically fought over whether or not slavery
should be permitted. Another point that may have influenced the Civil War is the economic and social
structure of the country, which also falls under slavery because the South main source of income was
slavery and the North completely opposed this viewpoint, even though they did not believe blacks and
whites as equals. Another point that may have provoked the Civil War is state rights because each state
would have and the right to decide if they wanted to prohibit Slavery or not. Both Johnson and Zinn
had interesting views Western Expansion, Manifest Destiny and the Mexican American War as it
relates to the Civil War and they both had similar points on each topic. However, Johnson stated that
Americans wanted more land and they were not satisfied after the Louisiana Purchase. This is where
the Manifest Destiny came about to continue the expansion of America. The term Manifest Destiny
was coined by John L. O Sullivan and in the document John L. O Sullivan, Manifest Destiny (1845)
he explained the importance of the expansion. O Sullivan stated that Texas was a part of the union and
it should not be seen just as geographical space and more than just a country but a way to fulfil the

Essay on Robert Nozick s The Experience Machine
As humans we are constantly in search of understanding the balance between what feels good and
what is right. Humans try to take full advantage of experiencing pleasure to its fullest potential.
Hedonism claims that pleasure is the highest and only source of essential significance. If the notion of
hedonism is truthful, happiness is directly correlated with pleasure. Robert Nozick presented the
philosophical world with his though experiment, The Experience Machine in order to dispute the
existence and validity of hedonism. Nozick s thought experiment poses the question of whether or not
humans would plug into a machine which produces any desired experience. Nozick weakens the
notion of hedonism through his thought experiment, claiming ... Show more content on

Nozick suggests, why should we be concerned only with how our time is filled, but not with what we
are? The truth is humans are not only concerned with what they do in life, but also with whom they
become and are. The human personality develops by experiencing true and real events that are not
resulted from a man made machine. We as humans have the ability to reason and understand life
differently than everything else in existence. Because of this understanding of life, we understand that
pleasure is not the only important thing to us. As human we have real life goals which need to be
experienced through reality, not through some stimulation of our brain. Nozick makes it clear the
pleasure is not intrinsically good because by denying this thought experiment, we are also denying
that all we need is pleasure to live a good life.
Nozick also discovers that humans would not hook up to this machine because it is a form of suicide.
Humans will never want to entirely reduce themselves to a man made realism. Nozick states, There is
no contact with any deeper reality, though the experience of it can be simulated . This statement
explains that humans need to experience a connection with reality because it has importance to all of
our lives. By humans agreeing to be plugged into this machine, they are indeed giving up who they
are, which in reality is giving up your life. This idea of choosing illusion over reality truly is a form of

computers from desktops and mainframes to a wide range of mobile and embedded applications
including surveillance, environment sensing, GPS navigation, mobile phones, autonomous robots etc.
Many of these applications run on limited resources i.e. power constrained mobile phones. Mobile
Cloud Computing (MCC) provides a powerful way to perform such computation intensive task, called

Grob Mergers
Mergers are such a complex concept, which can bring about a variety of emotions. I remember
learning about the topic while pursuing my MBA. During that time, I reviewed companies that had
merged and their history. Some were horrible stories of people losing their jobs and a loss of the
mission of the company. I think that in most of these cases (the ones I learned about through MBA)
the merger was done out of fear. Their company was struggling to grow, had financial issues, or policy
were changing the way they needed to do business. Perhaps this was why there were negative
repercussions from the merger. I do realize that the merger of two or more companies does not come
in a nice clean package. However, Grobman does a nice job reviewing how to begin a merger and the
steps necessary for a merger. He reviews that each participating board should adopt a resolution in
favor of the general principle of merging, should appoint a merger committee of board members and
staff, use a outside experienced merger consultant, and have meetings scheduled to discuss goals of
the merger, whether it is feasible, budgeting, laws, polices, and staff (Grobman, 2015, pg. 395). I think
having a careful plan and address these areas Grobman discusses can lead to a successful merger. ...

your heart rate. If you were to remove a beating heart from someone s body you would find that the
heart is no longer being suppressed by the parasympathetic nervous system and it will accelerate to the
same pace as the sinoatrial node. The SA node generates action potentials approximately 100 times per
minute due to the physiology of the heart, its own permeability to sodium and calcium via its
channels, and a host of other things. Anywhere between 80 to 100 beats per minute is normal for the
SA node.
7. What are two key differences between cardiac muscle and skeletal muscle?
cardiac is involuntary, skeletal is voluntary cardiac is unstriated, skeletal is striated
8. What is the difference between the effective refractory period and the relative refractory period?
The effective refractory period is the time in which the cell is incapable of responding to a second

is making preparations to receive stimulus between phase 3.5 4.
9. When the heart is externally stimulated just after the start of the contraction cycle, why does this
have no affect on heart rate?
This is because once a contraction has started, the action potential has already fired, stimularing the
muscle fibers. Once they

The Effects Of Traffic Congestion
Traffic congestion in the United States is becoming increasingly salient to citizens, private companies,
and government actors. Traffic congestion, particularly on major highways and interstates, increases
with economic development and production. First, as the economy develops, workers income rises.
Public transportation is an inferior good in that a person s demand for it decreases as their income
rises. Thus, as workers in a growing economy gain income, they begin to purchase vehicles, which
leads to more drivers on the roads (Road Congestion). A second way in which economic growth
affects traffic congestion is through business and other urban development. As a city s borders expand
with new businesses and residential areas, the amount of people increases quickly, while new
infrastructure to sustain them follows slowly behind in a dragging effect. To worsen the problem, these
new businesses have new employees who travel on the same roads at the same time of day, which
further leads to congestion during peak hours (Winaisathaporn).
It is important to understand that traffic congestions are more than an annoyance to the daily
commuter, but a huge negative externality on society. A negative externality is a cost imposed on a
person due to the productivity or actions of another person. As established, congestion is directly
caused by economic development by the government and private firms. But what does traffic
congestion cost us? An article summarizing results from the

The Honorable Draco Malfoy was among the most cunning of those Slytherins who circumvented an

It was his mother, and not his father, who was responsible for their Machiavellian change of allegiance
during the final battle. All they had done was wiped clean when Lady Malfoy had courageously saved
the life of the Harry Potter, savior of the Wizarding World, during a pivotal moment of the final battle.

Natural Selection Biology
Evolutionary biology has always interested me, specifically the mechanisms of natural selection and
how species adapt to their environment. It started with my love for animals and nature when I was
little. I spent my summers working with horses at a local corral, where I would ride around the
surrounding wilderness areas. My favorite part about riding in the mountains was watching the change
in plant and animal species as the elevation changed. It never ceased to amaze me how the alpine tree
line was always so sudden. Humongous pine trees would give way to the short, shrubby plants of the
alpine tundra so uniformly and noticeably. I have always wondered about the environmental
conditions that cause species to distribute themselves in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whether it is through competition, symbiotic relationships, pollinator dynamics or the millions of
other interactions that occur in nature, species have evolved together and thus live in certain niches or
behave in certain ways in order to survive. When I was younger I always thought of these
observations as just the way things had to be in order for nature to work, but now I realize these
relationships are key to understanding how the natural world has evolved due to environmental
conditions. Furthermore, the understanding of the mechanisms behind these natural phenomena are
important in developing solutions to the current mass extinctions and decline of species. The
biodiversity I observed as a child in the mountains and the biodiversity that I am studying now in
college is one of the subjects I find to be most intriguing and important about evolutionary biology.
The ways in which species evolve through natural selection and thus differentiate how they behave,
look, or live is what contributes to the natural beauty and interconnected interactions of nature that
first made me love animals and the outdoors. The mechanisms of evolutionary biology keep me
inspired to learn about the natural world in order to determine how I can help preserve it. This has led
to my aspirations of going to graduate school in wildlife biology and pursuing a career in research to
solve current issues in wildlife

Analysis Of Mordecai Richler s The
Response Barney s Version Excerpt
In this excerpt, Mordecai Richler does an excellent job mixing both showing and telling. He is able to
skim over large periods of time without leaving the reader with questions, and gives just enough detail
that the audience is able to understand past events. Richler gives a great amount of detail about one
particular incident that enhances the essence of the event and contrasts with the last few sentences.
The small conversation that Richler added gives the reader a greater respect for what Leo
accomplished, and by contrast, demonstrates the great misjudgement the narrator made. Overall,
Richler does an excellent job of balancing showing and telling, and does so in an effective manner that
helps the audience gain insight into the situation through the use of contrast.

through everything society does, no matter the period of time, social interaction was navigated
through words, and symbols. Which over time developed an emotional meaning, which are projected
thru action or behaviour today. According to Dictionary.com, the definition of Symbolic
Interactionism is a theory that human interaction and communication is facilitated by words, gestures,
and other symbols that have acquired conventionalized meanings , with this definition one can assume
that the interactionist perspective is based around communication that is made easier, by things like
words, gestures and symbols, so that they can gain the artistic meaning that will eventually make an
effect ( symbolic interactionism ). Those who study the interactionist perspective often take every day
social conversation and they use that to explain society, instead of taking the grand scheme of
everything in its entirety and using that to explain a large societal area in its entirety. In the movie
Shrek, the symbolism of each interaction has a deeper meaning somewhere down the road. For
instance, Shrek losing his swamp leads to him going to Lord Farquaad. This in turn meeting Donkey
and other fairy tale creatures, and then going to save Fiona. This adventure, down the road of course,
leads to him getting a wife and friends.
When Shrek first meet the fairy tale creatures, he was about to start his quest to talk to the great lord
Farquaad. The fairy tale creatures, who were all imprisoned and banished to Shrek s swamp by lord
Farquaad from his kingdom, all came to Shrek s swamp. This led to many friendships being formed,
intricate and even direct relationships were formed. The fairy tale creatures who came to Shrek s
swamp in the first place were ginger bread man named Gingy, the big bad wolf , named Wolfie,
Pinocchio, 3 blind mice and 3 little pigs. While Shrek, Gingy and Pinocchio are closer in relationship
with a more intricate relationship, the rest of the gang mentioned were not that close to Shrek. The
symbols behinds all their

Saint Thomas Five Arguments For The Existence Of God
Since as long as I can remember, God has been real to me. Granted, that does not mean I never doubt
Him; I am simply stating that I believe God exists. My parents chose for me to believe in God before I
even had a say in it. This happened at my Baptism, when I was not even a year old and far from the
age of reason. Yet now that I am older and possess the ability to logically reason and make choices for
myself, I choose God for myself. I have seen proof of God s existence in my own life, but many may
consider me bias because I am a born and raised Catholic. What about those who were not born into
this faith? How will they ever believe in the existence of God? They cannot be open to Someone who
they believe does not exist. That is where Saint Thomas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This world is incredible. Just look at the intricate fibers that a dandelion consists of, the unique
configurations of each and every snowflake, or the way in which innumerable different organisms
coexist in relative harmony on earth. This world, with all its elaborate details, could not have just
happened. It is so well organized, so masterfully designed, that everyone, religious or not, cannot help
but conclude that there must be a designer: God. Furthermore, why do all of us, religious or not,
possess this intrinsic desire for something more of which we do not know? We are all moving towards
an end, whether we like it or not, and this cannot be by sheer chance. Some intelligent being exists by
whom all natural things are directed to their end (Gracyk

The Representation Of Gender And Media
Nowadays the representation of gender in media has become very common. It is all about the
representation of phenomenally rapid change: change s in gender relation transformations in media
technologies, regulatory frameworks, content ownership and theoretical revolutions in the approaches
used to make sense of gender representations. Gender and media aims to freeze the frame, press the
pause button, or hit the refresh key to construct that how media shows social stereotypes. There are
many advertisements which influences people, the one such advertisement is of Van Heusen brand
advertising for men s wear tie. These advertisement clearly reflects gender inequality.
Since then, of course, the role of women in society and representation in advertising has come a long
way. The feminist movement in the 70s helped to break down barriers for women, leading to improved
career opportunities and more equality in the workplace and the home. We can see in the picture how a
girl is lying down near a shoe, and at the very top of it a message is written in bold whit letters keep
her where she belongs. This shows that how they have compared a woman with a shoe and the women
is without the clothes on her body which shows gender biased advertisement. These seems that they
are trying to say that women s are not equal to men. In the second half picture, at the very top it is
written that show her it is men world which is kind of reflecting the inequality s in the gender. And in
the picture we

Misandry Thesis
No, woman s rights or FEMINISM is not off base. It is a political and social development that looks
for EQUAL treatment of ladies and men
Individuals need to acknowledge then woman s rights, misandry and matriarchy are three altogether
different things. Matriarchy is indistinguishable to patriarchy, with the special case that the parts are
saved and the lady is the power figure, women s liberation does NOT bolster that. Misandry is the
statement of disdain towards the male sexual orientation, women s liberation does NOT bolster that,
either. Women s liberation strikes to right some exceptionally clear and harmful medications and
social convictions towards ladies until they are equivalent to men. It is extremely straightforward. The
motivation behind why this development was named woman s rights is that ladies are thought to be
abused more in correlation to men. It is much like prejudice towards dark individuals. Misandry
exists, however it doesn t hurt men socially or politically. While misogyny has brought about the
abuse of ladies as well as the lives of ladies. Honestly, there are people who call themselves women s
activists keeping in mind the end goal to pardon their sexist activities, however this rate is extremely
minor and the entire development ought not be cut down in view of the mix ups of minor. ... Show

You cannot understand why you speak the language you speak, why you live in the nation you live in,
or even why you eat the food you eat. If you don t understand the Columbian Exchange, much of what
you think you know about the history of the Americas may be wrong. Spanish soldiers did less to
defeat the Incas and Aztecs than smallpox did. Divine Providence did less to bless the Puritan settlers
of the Mayflower with good health and fortune than the Pilgrims own immune systems did. In the
Columbian Exchange, ecology became destiny. Powerful environmental forces, understood by no one
alive at the time and by very few people even today, determined who would thrive and who would die.
And that may be the most shocking truth revealed to those who take the time to understand the
Columbian Exchange: we, as humans, cannot always control our own destinies. The most important
historical actors in this story are not Christopher Columbus or Moctezuma or Hernán Cortés. They are
the smallpox virus, the pig, the potato, and the kernel of

Sociological Analysis Of The Titanic Essay
Sociological analysis of the Titanic When researching movies for my paper, I decided that the Titanic
was the perfect option. Being that the movie was based on the true event of the RMS Titanic sinking, I
knew I could also find a lot of research during the time of the Titanic to help strengthen my paper. The
movie Titanic took place in the early 1900 s, a time rich in sociological issues. Their way of life was a
lot different than ours today. Some major sociological concepts that were shown several times in the
movie were, social stratification, gender inequality and sexism, inequality of income, and
discrimination. During this time period people faced huge gaps in wealth, gender, class, and race.
Gaps between the rich and poor were extreme. The wealthy were rich and the poor were in poverty.
The middle class was not a common standing within society: you were either upper or lower class. It
was very difficult to rise above the lower class standing, and easier to fall below the upper class line
(Prezi web). Men dominated in almost all social standings; voting, ownership of land, professions,
wealth, etc. Women were still viewed as property and in most ways, treated as such. The gap between
the upper and lower class caused discrimination amongst them. Lower class was treated poorly by the
upper class and seen as less worthy. In my paper I plan to include all of these sociological issues, and
clearly connect them within the movie, Titanic. The movie Titanic was a drama,

Gandhi Vs. Greek Heroes
The definition of heroes has been evolved variously through the ages. Greeks defined heroes as brave,
strong men or demigods who accomplished great quests during their lives. People nowadays may
define heroes as people who are changing the world to become a better place. A hero is someone who
has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself.1 Both Greek heroes and modern day heroes
complete tasks which are nearly impossible for a normal human. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, who
was the leader of activists in getting India independence from Britain, is a great hero to many people.
Although Gandhi and Greek heroes have many similar and different aspects about being a hero, there
are great reasons what make Gandhi superior.
Both Gandhi and Greek heroes have great perseverance and endurance to achieve their goals. Gandhi
was imprisoned many times in his life, but he never gave up, and tried his best to achieve India
Independence and peace. One of his great efforts is The Salt Satyagraha which he marched 200 miles
which was accompanied by thousands of people because the British imposed a tax on salt and made it
illegal for Indians to produce from sea water.2 Greek heroes also had great perseverance in completing
their quests. Jason, for example, complete a quest to get the Golden Fleece by enduring all difficulties
and dangers and Heracles also completed his twelve labors because of his great perseverance and
effort. Therefore, perseverance and hard work are important

Television s Impact On Television
One part of television that has always been a constant in a lot of programs is family. More particular,
the family sitcom and family dramas have been around for years and are still around today. Family
television shows are great programs for everyone due to the fact of being very family oriented.
However, the way families were portrayed when television first started out has changed drastically
with how some families are portrayed now. The evolution of the way families are viewed on screen
and off screen can be portrayed throughout the years on television. One television show that aired
from 1951 1957 was the series I Love Luc. This series was about a husband and a wife and their lives
together. They were a typical family in the 50s. Lucy stayed at home being a housewife at first while
Ricky would go out to work (Smith). The series even showed them sleeping in separate beds at that
time because we as the audience weren t allowed to see a couple sleep in the same bed. Later in the
series, Lucy became pregnant which wasn t a very common thing to show on television, especially at
that time (Garrison).
Typical families shown on television in the 1950s were a mother, father, and their children. One show
that started to break the mold was My Three Sons which premiered in 1960 and aired until 1972. My
Three Sons was about a widowed father raising his three sons on his own with the help of the kids
grandfather (Taflinger). In a matter of only ten years the family sitcom had

Modern Traditionality Vs Modernity
Traditionality vs Modernity Younger generations in the 1920s wanted to be different than their
parents. Traditionalists are people who have a deep respect for long held cultural and religious values
while modernists are people who embrace new ideas, social trends, and styles. In this case, they
wanted to be more modern rather than stick with traditional values and ways of life, and they wanted
to embrace new cultures too. The John Scopes Trial is an example of how one man wanted to be more
modern and teach something new to younger generations. A high school biology teacher, John Scopes,
was put on trial for teaching Darwin s theory of evolution in a Tennessee public school. It was a
modernist idea, teaching something new, that at the time, Tennessee had a state law that made it illegal
to teach the theory in any state funded school. Traditionalists at the time feared that the bible teachings
would then be forgotten if Scopes won the trial. He ended up losing. Scopes and other modernists
believed that teaching evolution in schools showed the public another perspective of the world
through science rather than through religion. Traditionalists were not in favor of immigration during
the 1920s, so they restricted it. Nativists in the 1920s argued that new immigrants were threatening
American political cultural and religious traditions, and that new immigrants were taking the jobs
away from native born Americans. They had the American Dream, which is the ideal that every U.S.

Women Are The Victims Of War
Human rights are not only violated by terrorism, repression or assassination, but also by unfair
economic structures that create huge inequalities (Pope Francis). Just as women are victims of
economic systems, they are also the victims of many, if not most, acts of terrorism and violence. These
can include domestic violence, sexual slavery, emotional abuse, human trafficking, etc. In these
ceaseless cases of oppression and violence, women and children bear the brunt of it all. In short, they
are the casualties of war. The spoils of war. The victims of war. Two prominent ongoing acts of
conflict which impact women are ISIS s widespread regime and domestic violence in Papua New
Guinea. Both these events emphasize the dire situations women ... Show more content on

As a result, they find the sex slavery system established by ISIS very appealing and are more willing
to support ISIS in order to reap personal benefits. Thus, ISIS uses systematic slavery and rape of
young girls and women to gain more momentum and support. Their justification for such
inhumaneness? The Koran permits Muslim men to have more than one wife along with sex slaves. In
fact, ISIS lures the women into their system by convincing them that they are pleasing God through
their actions and decisions. Overall, women in Syria, Iraq, Iran, Jordon, and Lebanon face rape, forced
marriage, abuse, forced religious conversions, and being treated as currency in order to further a group
that only seeks to pulverize women, non Muslims, and anyone else that prevents the domination of
their men.
Another astoundingly important issue the media fails to cover daily is the domestic violence in Papua
New Guinea that has reached its highest point in 2015. In 1992 family violence occurred in about two
thirds of the households in Papua New Guinea; however, the numbers today are unreported and
unaccounted for because the government fails to keep track of a severe issue affecting most women in
the country. In a 2013 survey 80 percent of men reported that they had enacted some form of abuse on
their partner(s) at some point. Through all this, the police do not take an active part in helping victims

Exodus Decoded Essay
The main argument in Exodus Decoded was that the Exodus actually happened and is not just a story
in the Bible. There were many strengths and weaknesses in Simcha Jacobovici s experiment. In the
movie, he was excavating a site where Moses followers had lived and before going to the sacred land
and that was a strength in his experiment because he was where it began in the story. A weakness he
had was that he never seemed to be wrong when it comes to finding where Moses and his followers
ended up and to see if the Exodus really happened. Another strength was that he had the Stella of
Ahmose. This helped explain what the Exodus was. Pharaoh Ahmose s was an important person to
find because in the exodus it was said that Ahmose went with Moses ... Show more content on

This is because to me it seemed more dramatic than an actual experiment. Throughout the video he
would say no one knew something that happened in the Exodus, or some proof of the exodus was
never found until now. I feel that it was not impressive. I feel like he was a bit goofing off with the
drama of the video. Also, when he brought up the Ark of Covenant and where it was place lasted. He
had no solid proof as to where it was. No one knows where the Ark of Covenant is since the exodus
and I believe if we knew where the exact one from the Exodus is, then we will be able to clearly stated
that the Exodus happened. The Ark of Covenant is an important artifact when dealing with the
Exodus. There were many areas in this video where I could not stay focused while watching it because
of what I feel like was cliche to do to be dramatic when they thought they found something. In all the
dramatic scenes, there was not one moment where he did not find something. This documentary just
seem too good to be true. Some aspects of this video just did not really fit in. It jumped around a bit I
feel. That made it a little confusing which did not make it compelling for me. Although I did enjoy
watching the movie and learning a few things from

  • 2. Essay On Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire In the 19th and 20th centuries, factories were very unsafe places to work, yet they were where most people found jobs. Factories had accidents all of the time, but the most notable of the tragedies is the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire. The results of this event and many other factory accidents in the late 19th and early 20th centuries led to better overall conditions for workers, especially immigrant workers. In the case of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire, employees were forced to work under horrible conditions. Many times, the employers abused their workers by setting clocks in the factory backwards which forced their workers to unknowingly work longer shifts for the same amount of pay. Also, most factory buildings in this time were highly unsafe, especially the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire in 1911. The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire in 1911 was the case of 146 deaths and 71 injuries. These numbers are so high primarily because of how dangerous the building was to work in. Josephine Cammarata was a 17 year old Catholic girl who had lived in the United States for only 2 years. • 3. Anthropogenic Sources Of Energy Methane. Methane is the second most prevalent GHG emitted by anthropogenic sources, with anthropogenic emissions accounting for approximately 70 80% of the total CH4 emissions (EPA, 2015; Johnson and Johnson, 1995). Emissions of methane have increased exponentially from the pre industrial period to present day. During the years 1000 1750, CH4 concentrations in the atmosphere were approximately 700 parts per billion by volume (ppbv) (IPCC, 2001; EPA, 2015). In the year 2015, CH4 concentrations had risen to approximately 1,864 ppbv, an increase of 166% (NOAA/ ESRL, 2015b). Although the total N2O emissions are much lower than CO2; N2O has an atomic lifetime of 114 years and a GWP value of 298, therefore, it is approximately 300 times more powerful at trapping heat in the atmosphere and increasing the GHE when compared to CO2 (EPA, 2015). The main sources of anthropogenic N2O emissions includes; agricultural soils (nitrogen fixing crops and forages), fertilizers (synthetic and manure), feces deposition from livestock, fossil fuel combustion (predominantly mobile combustion), nylon and nitric acid production, waste water treatment, and waste incineration and biomass burning (EPA, 2015). Trace gases and small molecules. • 4. Radicalism in Mary Wollstonecraft’s Writing Radicalism in Mary Wollstonecraft s Writing (Which author is more radical for her day?) In the years of the late 1700 s and early 1800 s women s rights were unheard of. Women didn t get a higher education like the men did. They would mostly learn about etiquette and how to cook and clean. The father of the daughter would choose who she would marry, it would always be based on money, and family tithes. Women were treated as property and she was owned by her father and mother tells she was wedded, and then her husband would own her. But in theses years is when women started to more or less rebel and come out with new and radical ideas. In the article titled, Family Structure in Colonial times, the author states, Now, all along, there was the occasional crack in the system, granting that a woman could take care of children in the tender years three or seven years old. This meant that children were really never raised in a great way and they were soon sent to work in factories, leaving the mother heartbroken. The last reason Wollstonecraft s writing is more radical is the fact that she wants everyone to give women a chance; if it doesn t work she won t mind taking the blame. In her essay she states, Let me become more chaste and modest, and if women do not grow wiser in the same ratio it will be clear that they have weaker understandings. She wasn t positive that women would succeed with more rights, but she still was fighting for a chance for them. It was a huge step to put herself on the line because if women had begun to get rights, but it was in fact true that they weren t as smart, the blame would be put on her. In the article Colonial Times, the author states, During the 18th century, the women s role and work was extremely difficult, exhausting, and society was unappreciative. This proves that women worked hard from the start and if they could just get some more education they could be as successful as men. • 9. The Civil War And The American War The question of what caused the Civil War is debatable because there are several events that may have influenced the war such as the Western Expansion, Manifest Destiny and the Mexican American War. The war also stems from slavery, the North and South basically fought over whether or not slavery should be permitted. Another point that may have influenced the Civil War is the economic and social structure of the country, which also falls under slavery because the South main source of income was slavery and the North completely opposed this viewpoint, even though they did not believe blacks and whites as equals. Another point that may have provoked the Civil War is state rights because each state would have and the right to decide if they wanted to prohibit Slavery or not. Both Johnson and Zinn had interesting views Western Expansion, Manifest Destiny and the Mexican American War as it relates to the Civil War and they both had similar points on each topic. However, Johnson stated that Americans wanted more land and they were not satisfied after the Louisiana Purchase. This is where the Manifest Destiny came about to continue the expansion of America. The term Manifest Destiny was coined by John L. O Sullivan and in the document John L. O Sullivan, Manifest Destiny (1845) he explained the importance of the expansion. • 10. Essay on Robert Nozick s The Experience Machine As humans we are constantly in search of understanding the balance between what feels good and what is right. Humans try to take full advantage of experiencing pleasure to its fullest potential. Hedonism claims that pleasure is the highest and only source of essential significance. If the notion of hedonism is truthful, happiness is directly correlated with pleasure. Robert Nozick presented the philosophical world with his though experiment, The Experience Machine in order to dispute the existence and validity of hedonism. Nozick s thought experiment poses the question of whether or not humans would plug into a machine which produces any desired experience. Nozick suggests, why should we be concerned only with how our time is filled, but not with what we are? The truth is humans are not only concerned with what they do in life, but also with whom they become and are. The human personality develops by experiencing true and real events that are not resulted from a man made machine. We as humans have the ability to reason and understand life differently than everything else in existence. Because of this understanding of life, we understand that pleasure is not the only important thing to us. As human we have real life goals which need to be experienced through reality, not through some stimulation of our brain. Nozick makes it clear the pleasure is not intrinsically good because by denying this thought experiment, we are also denying that all we need is pleasure to live a good life. Nozick also discovers that humans would not hook up to this machine because it is a form of suicide. Humans will never want to entirely reduce themselves to a man made realism. Nozick states, There is no contact with any deeper reality, though the experience of it can be simulated . This statement explains that humans need to experience a connection with reality because it has importance to all of our lives. By humans agreeing to be plugged into this machine, they are indeed giving up who they are, which in reality is giving up your life. This idea of choosing illusion over reality truly is a form of ... • 12. Grob Mergers Mergers are such a complex concept, which can bring about a variety of emotions. I remember learning about the topic while pursuing my MBA. During that time, I reviewed companies that had merged and their history. Some were horrible stories of people losing their jobs and a loss of the mission of the company. I think that in most of these cases (the ones I learned about through MBA) the merger was done out of fear. Their company was struggling to grow, had financial issues, or policy were changing the way they needed to do business. Perhaps this was why there were negative repercussions from the merger. I do realize that the merger of two or more companies does not come in a nice clean package. However, Grobman does a nice job reviewing how to begin a merger and the steps necessary for a merger. He reviews that each participating board should adopt a resolution in favor of the general principle of merging, should appoint a merger committee of board members and staff, use a outside experienced merger consultant, and have meetings scheduled to discuss goals of the merger, whether it is feasible, budgeting, laws, polices, and staff (Grobman, 2015, pg. 395). If you were to remove a beating heart from someone s body you would find that the heart is no longer being suppressed by the parasympathetic nervous system and it will accelerate to the same pace as the sinoatrial node. The SA node generates action potentials approximately 100 times per minute due to the physiology of the heart, its own permeability to sodium and calcium via its channels, and a host of other things. Anywhere between 80 to 100 beats per minute is normal for the SA node. 7. What are two key differences between cardiac muscle and skeletal muscle? cardiac is involuntary, skeletal is voluntary cardiac is unstriated, skeletal is striated 8. What is the difference between the effective refractory period and the relative refractory period? The effective refractory period is the time in which the cell is incapable of responding to a second stimulus between the phases of 0 3.5, while the relative refractory period is the time in which the cell is making preparations to receive stimulus between phase 3.5 4. 9. When the heart is externally stimulated just after the start of the contraction cycle, why does this have no affect on heart rate? This is because once a contraction has started, the action potential has already fired, stimularing the muscle fibers. Once they

  • 15. The Effects Of Traffic Congestion Traffic congestion in the United States is becoming increasingly salient to citizens, private companies, and government actors. Traffic congestion, particularly on major highways and interstates, increases with economic development and production. First, as the economy develops, workers income rises. Public transportation is an inferior good in that a person s demand for it decreases as their income rises. Thus, as workers in a growing economy gain income, they begin to purchase vehicles, which leads to more drivers on the roads (Road Congestion). A second way in which economic growth affects traffic congestion is through business and other urban development. As a city s borders expand with new businesses and residential areas, the amount of people increases quickly, while new infrastructure to sustain them follows slowly behind in a dragging effect. To worsen the problem, these new businesses have new employees who travel on the same roads at the same time of day, which further leads to congestion during peak hours (Winaisathaporn). It is important to understand that traffic congestions are more than an annoyance to the daily commuter, but a huge negative externality on society. A negative externality is a cost imposed on a person due to the productivity or actions of another person. As established, congestion is directly caused by economic development by the government and private firms. But what does traffic congestion cost us? An article summarizing results from the ... It started with my love for animals and nature when I was little. I spent my summers working with horses at a local corral, where I would ride around the surrounding wilderness areas. My favorite part about riding in the mountains was watching the change in plant and animal species as the elevation changed. It never ceased to amaze me how the alpine tree line was always so sudden. Humongous pine trees would give way to the short, shrubby plants of the alpine tundra so uniformly and noticeably. Whether it is through competition, symbiotic relationships, pollinator dynamics or the millions of other interactions that occur in nature, species have evolved together and thus live in certain niches or behave in certain ways in order to survive. When I was younger I always thought of these observations as just the way things had to be in order for nature to work, but now I realize these relationships are key to understanding how the natural world has evolved due to environmental conditions. Furthermore, the understanding of the mechanisms behind these natural phenomena are important in developing solutions to the current mass extinctions and decline of species. The biodiversity I observed as a child in the mountains and the biodiversity that I am studying now in college is one of the subjects I find to be most intriguing and important about evolutionary biology. The ways in which species evolve through natural selection and thus differentiate how they behave, look, or live is what contributes to the natural beauty and interconnected interactions of nature that first made me love animals and the outdoors. I have not been working all my life to finish second. All those hours at the gym, all those late nights at the rink, all those classes I missed for hockey... • 22. Shrek s Impact On Society And Symbolic Interactionism As Shrek was judged, we are as humans judged today. This is true for anything we do. Whether politics, television, or social media, it still defines how society and the individual will behave. See through everything society does, no matter the period of time, social interaction was navigated through words, and symbols. Which over time developed an emotional meaning, which are projected thru action or behaviour today. According to Dictionary.com, the definition of Symbolic Interactionism is a theory that human interaction and communication is facilitated by words, gestures, and other symbols that have acquired conventionalized meanings , with this definition one can assume that the interactionist perspective is based around communication that is made easier, by things like words, gestures and symbols, so that they can gain the artistic meaning that will eventually make an effect ( symbolic interactionism ). Those who study the interactionist perspective often take every day social conversation and they use that to explain society, instead of taking the grand scheme of everything in its entirety and using that to explain a large societal area in its entirety. In the movie Shrek, the symbolism of each interaction has a deeper meaning somewhere down the road. For instance, Shrek losing his swamp leads to him going to Lord Farquaad. This in turn meeting Donkey and other fairy tale creatures, and then going to save Fiona. This adventure, down the road of course, leads to him getting a wife and friends. When Shrek first meet the fairy tale creatures, he was about to start his quest to talk to the great lord Farquaad. The fairy tale creatures, who were all imprisoned and banished to Shrek s swamp by lord Farquaad from his kingdom, all came to Shrek s swamp. This led to many friendships being formed, intricate and even direct relationships were formed. The fairy tale creatures who came to Shrek s swamp in the first place were ginger bread man named Gingy, the big bad wolf , named Wolfie, Pinocchio, 3 blind mice and 3 little pigs. While Shrek, Gingy and Pinocchio are closer in relationship with a more intricate relationship, the rest of the gang mentioned were not that close to Shrek. The symbols behinds all their ... • 23. Saint Thomas Five Arguments For The Existence Of God Since as long as I can remember, God has been real to me. Granted, that does not mean I never doubt Him; I am simply stating that I believe God exists. My parents chose for me to believe in God before I even had a say in it. This happened at my Baptism, when I was not even a year old and far from the age of reason. Yet now that I am older and possess the ability to logically reason and make choices for myself, I choose God for myself. I have seen proof of God s existence in my own life, but many may consider me bias because I am a born and raised Catholic. What about those who were not born into this faith? How will they ever believe in the existence of God? They cannot be open to Someone who they believe does not exist. That is where Saint Thomas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 24. The Representation Of Gender And Media Nowadays the representation of gender in media has become very common. It is all about the representation of phenomenally rapid change: change s in gender relation transformations in media technologies, regulatory frameworks, content ownership and theoretical revolutions in the approaches used to make sense of gender representations. Gender and media aims to freeze the frame, press the pause button, or hit the refresh key to construct that how media shows social stereotypes. There are many advertisements which influences people, the one such advertisement is of Van Heusen brand advertising for men s wear tie. These advertisement clearly reflects gender inequality. Since then, of course, the role of women in society and representation in advertising has come a long way. The feminist movement in the 70s helped to break down barriers for women, leading to improved career opportunities and more equality in the workplace and the home. We can see in the picture how a girl is lying down near a shoe, and at the very top of it a message is written in bold whit letters keep her where she belongs. This shows that how they have compared a woman with a shoe and the women is without the clothes on her body which shows gender biased advertisement. These seems that they are trying to say that women s are not equal to men. In the second half picture, at the very top it is written that show her it is men world which is kind of reflecting the inequality s in the gender. And in the picture we ... It is a political and social development that looks for EQUAL treatment of ladies and men Individuals need to acknowledge then woman s rights, misandry and matriarchy are three altogether different things. Matriarchy is indistinguishable to patriarchy, with the special case that the parts are saved and the lady is the power figure, women s liberation does NOT bolster that. Misandry is the statement of disdain towards the male sexual orientation, women s liberation does NOT bolster that, either. Women s liberation strikes to right some exceptionally clear and harmful medications and social convictions towards ladies until they are equivalent to men. It is extremely straightforward. The motivation behind why this development was named woman s rights is that ladies are thought to be abused more in correlation to men. It is much like prejudice towards dark individuals. • 27. Sociological Analysis Of The Titanic Essay Sociological analysis of the Titanic When researching movies for my paper, I decided that the Titanic was the perfect option. Being that the movie was based on the true event of the RMS Titanic sinking, I knew I could also find a lot of research during the time of the Titanic to help strengthen my paper. The movie Titanic took place in the early 1900 s, a time rich in sociological issues. Their way of life was a lot different than ours today. Some major sociological concepts that were shown several times in the movie were, social stratification, gender inequality and sexism, inequality of income, and discrimination. During this time period people faced huge gaps in wealth, gender, class, and race. Gaps between the rich and poor were extreme. The wealthy were rich and the poor were in poverty. The middle class was not a common standing within society: you were either upper or lower class. It was very difficult to rise above the lower class standing, and easier to fall below the upper class line (Prezi web). Men dominated in almost all social standings; voting, ownership of land, professions, wealth, etc. Women were still viewed as property and in most ways, treated as such. The gap between the upper and lower class caused discrimination amongst them. Lower class was treated poorly by the upper class and seen as less worthy. In my paper I plan to include all of these sociological issues, and clearly connect them within the movie, Titanic. The movie Titanic was a drama, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Gandhi Vs. Greek Heroes The definition of heroes has been evolved variously through the ages. Greeks defined heroes as brave, strong men or demigods who accomplished great quests during their lives. People nowadays may define heroes as people who are changing the world to become a better place. A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself.1 Both Greek heroes and modern day heroes complete tasks which are nearly impossible for a normal human. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, who was the leader of activists in getting India independence from Britain, is a great hero to many people. Although Gandhi and Greek heroes have many similar and different aspects about being a hero, there are great reasons what make Gandhi superior. Both Gandhi and Greek heroes have great perseverance and endurance to achieve their goals. Gandhi was imprisoned many times in his life, but he never gave up, and tried his best to achieve India Independence and peace. One of his great efforts is The Salt Satyagraha which he marched 200 miles which was accompanied by thousands of people because the British imposed a tax on salt and made it illegal for Indians to produce from sea water.2 Greek heroes also had great perseverance in completing their quests. Jason, for example, complete a quest to get the Golden Fleece by enduring all difficulties and dangers and Heracles also completed his twelve labors because of his great perseverance and effort. • 30. Television s Impact On Television One part of television that has always been a constant in a lot of programs is family. More particular, the family sitcom and family dramas have been around for years and are still around today. Family television shows are great programs for everyone due to the fact of being very family oriented. However, the way families were portrayed when television first started out has changed drastically with how some families are portrayed now. The evolution of the way families are viewed on screen and off screen can be portrayed throughout the years on television. One television show that aired from 1951 1957 was the series I Love Luc. This series was about a husband and a wife and their lives together. They were a typical family in the 50s. Lucy stayed at home being a housewife at first while Ricky would go out to work (Smith). The series even showed them sleeping in separate beds at that time because we as the audience weren t allowed to see a couple sleep in the same bed. Later in the series, Lucy became pregnant which wasn t a very common thing to show on television, especially at that time (Garrison). Typical families shown on television in the 1950s were a mother, father, and their children. One show that started to break the mold was My Three Sons which premiered in 1960 and aired until 1972. My Three Sons was about a widowed father raising his three sons on his own with the help of the kids grandfather (Taflinger). In a matter of only ten years the family sitcom had ... • 32. Modern Traditionality Vs Modernity Traditionality vs Modernity Younger generations in the 1920s wanted to be different than their parents. Traditionalists are people who have a deep respect for long held cultural and religious values while modernists are people who embrace new ideas, social trends, and styles. In this case, they wanted to be more modern rather than stick with traditional values and ways of life, and they wanted to embrace new cultures too. The John Scopes Trial is an example of how one man wanted to be more modern and teach something new to younger generations. A high school biology teacher, John Scopes, was put on trial for teaching Darwin s theory of evolution in a Tennessee public school. It was a modernist idea, teaching something new, that at the time, Tennessee had a state law that made it illegal to teach the theory in any state funded school. Traditionalists at the time feared that the bible teachings would then be forgotten if Scopes won the trial. He ended up losing. Scopes and other modernists believed that teaching evolution in schools showed the public another perspective of the world through science rather than through religion. Traditionalists were not in favor of immigration during the 1920s, so they restricted it. Nativists in the 1920s argued that new immigrants were threatening American political cultural and religious traditions, and that new immigrants were taking the jobs away from native born Americans. Thus, ISIS uses systematic slavery and rape of young girls and women to gain more momentum and support. Their justification for such inhumaneness? The Koran permits Muslim men to have more than one wife along with sex slaves. In fact, ISIS lures the women into their system by convincing them that they are pleasing God through their actions and decisions. Overall, women in Syria, Iraq, Iran, Jordon, and Lebanon face rape, forced marriage, abuse, forced religious conversions, and being treated as currency in order to further a group that only seeks to pulverize women, non Muslims, and anyone else that prevents the domination of their men. Another astoundingly important issue the media fails to cover daily is the domestic violence in Papua New Guinea that has reached its highest point in 2015. In 1992 family violence occurred in about two thirds of the households in Papua New Guinea; however, the numbers today are unreported and unaccounted for because the government fails to keep track of a severe issue affecting most women in the country. There were many strengths and weaknesses in Simcha Jacobovici s experiment. In the movie, he was excavating a site where Moses followers had lived and before going to the sacred land and that was a strength in his experiment because he was where it began in the story. A weakness he had was that he never seemed to be wrong when it comes to finding where Moses and his followers ended up and to see if the Exodus really happened. No one knows where the Ark of Covenant is since the exodus and I believe if we knew where the exact one from the Exodus is, then we will be able to clearly stated that the Exodus happened. The Ark of Covenant is an important artifact when dealing with the Exodus. There were many areas in this video where I could not stay focused while watching it because of what I feel like was cliche to do to be dramatic when they thought they found something. In all the dramatic scenes, there was not one moment where he did not find something. This documentary just seem too good to be true. Some aspects of this video just did not really fit in.
