Chakra Essay
What chakras are and why we need to clean them daily Chakras are energy centers within the
human body that help to regulate all its processes, from organ function to the immune system
and emotions. It s the Sanskrit word translates to wheel. If you don t know what they look like,
here s a picture: There are seven main chakras and each of them has its own vibrational
frequency, colour, and function that help make us humans. When a chakra is blocked or
imbalanced, it can affect your body, your mood, your job, your financial, and your relationships
with others. Basically it will affect your entire life. Below are functions for each one and how
they affect you when they re balanced and imbalance. Root Chakra: Safety, grounding, and right
to live in the psychical world. Its colour is ruby red. Balanced: Feeling secure about your home,
family, finance, and career. You stay grounded and live in the present moment. Your life will be
full with abundance because this chakra is the foundation of anything you want to have or achieve
in the psychical world. Imbalanced: You will have unstable life that makes you worry about
everything. You don t feel secure enough to move forward... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It s because balanced, cleaned chakras will help us to have a stable finance, career, a loving
relationship, and pretty much anything you want in life. A lot of things happen in our daily life
and they can block or imbalance our chakras, such as our negative thoughts, self talk,
environment, and people around us. Most of people s chakras are blocked since they were kids
because of painful childhood: abused physically and emotionally, parents divorce, abandoned, a
wrong type of friends, and more. Now they re adults and still carrying those negative energy with
them. Plus new ones they add on in current life. That`s why we need to clean our chakras daily.
One time is not enough to make your painful memories disappear and have a happily ever after

The Rolling Stones And The Stones
The Rolling Stones Stones, a simple concretion of earthy or mineral matter, a rock, a building
block, it may be precious, or it may be garbage. The Rolling Stones are very similar to a pack a
stones, a pack of random men to play music. They first started as a small measly band that soon
grew into an international sensation. The Stones created some of the most widely known tunes and
they also created one of the most iconic styles of music, rock and roll. The Rolling Stoneswere
defined by the very famous founding trio, The Stones themselves, their extraordinary style and their
gruesome political troubles. Even with some hardships and struggles their success was quickly
awarded with countless music rewards.
The Creation of the Rolling Stones The group named The Rolling Stones took a very long time
to form and it all started with the founding trio. The Rolling Stones were a rock band formed by
the famous trio of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Brian Jones. Together they recruited
musicians to their rock and roll group. The Rolling Stones Biography states that, The Rolling
Stones origins date back to the boyhood friendship of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, formed in
1957. In October 1960 Richards and Jagger ran into each other. They both noticed their enthusiasm
or the rock and roll and blues music. After the encounter Richards soon joined Little Boy Blues and
the Clues Boys, Jagger s blues group. Furthermore, while making rounds of London blues clubs,

Comparing The Watsons Go To Birmingham And Susan B Anthony...
In the stories, The Watsons Go to Birmingham and Susan B Anthony Dares to Vote the common
theme found in both stories is courage. In the story, The Watsons Go to Birmingham Kenny was
showing courage by running towards the church trying to see through the smoke where Joetta was.
In the story Susan B Anthony Dares to Vote, Susan B Anthony, from a young age had been taught
that have rights to, and she wanted to bring attention to it. Although, The Watsons Go to
Birmingham and Susan B Anthony Dares to Vote may be similar, but they are also different. In the
story The Watsons Go to Birmingham the Watsons take a greater risk because there is a racial
undertone towards black people. In the story, Susan B Anthony Dares to Vote she is one woman
who is fighting for what s she believes in women s rights, and she is taking not as great of a huge
risk because she was just trying to prove her statement.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Riots were formed against black people because of their skin color. Violence was being shown
up to a point where people died because of many opinions towards black people. Even though the
main characters didn t really show courage their cousins did. Sarah: I got bitten by a police dog.
Sarah: I was part of a march called the children s crusade. We were marching for equal rights.
This is significant because of Sarah then after that kept on fighting for the equal rights she
deserved. Fights were everywhere on the streets, in homes, restaurants, anywhere you can
imagine back in the 1950s and 1960s. Kevin took a risk when trying to save Joetta s life when
she was in the church fire. They were treated awfully when they went to a restaurant and Joetta
was asked to get off the chair in the diner. The reason this may have happened was because maybe
the Watsons didn t know it could have been an all white restaurant. Back then black and white
people were separated

Essay on Cheap Amusements
Peiss, Kathy. (1986) . Cheap Amusements. New York: Temple University.
In Cheap Amusements, Kathy Peiss studies the customs, values, public styles, and ritualized
interactions expressed in leisure time of the working class women living in New York. The social
experiences of these young women gives different clues to the ways in which these women
constructed and gave meaning to their lives between the years of 1880 1920.
The laboring poor s leisure activity was brief, casual, and non commercial. Amusement was and
had to be cheap. It mostly consisted of walks, visiting friends, and reading the penny press. The
people of the Lower East Side entertained with sights of interest and penny pleasures such as organ
grinders and buskers, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These young women found pleasure in dance halls, amusement parks, and movie theaters. The
young women were not content with recreation at home so they went for amp;quot;organized
entertainment amp;quot;. Dressing up nice, strolling the streets and staying late at amusement
parks became an important cultural style for many working women.
Dancing was the greatest passion of all for the single working woman. This is where they played
out their cultural style. This is also where it became easy for young men and women to interact.
The dance craze gave way to dance halls, which could now be rented for large meetings, weddings,
dances and other gatherings. What mattered in the dance hall was popularity, dancing ability,
fashionable clothes and male attention. Still women had a hard time getting past reality. Their work
and family life undercut their social freedom.
Excursions also played a big part in women s leisure time. Women could now afford to use trolleys
and they used these to socialize with men. Women also started travelling to beach resorts on their
own. Coney Island became a major place go for entertainment. Coney Island had amusement parks,
dance halls, beaches, and the boardwalk, this was a place for all to go.
Cheap amusements became a real problem especially for the women of the late nineteenth century.
The amusements were blamed for debasing womanly virtues, segregating youth

Life Of Pi Close Reading Analysis
Close Reading
Yann Martel manipulates the narrative style and structural devices within this passage to support
the will to survive theme that is present in Life of Pi. Before the shipwreck, Pi was a spiritual
individual with a strong appreciation for the joy and peace in life. Pi commonly experienced
cruelty and doubt from his family and friends; however, he remained calm by following the
guidance from his three religions. After the shipwreck, the spirituality within Pi s life was tampered
with because the chaotic and brute actions of the animals threatened to separate Pi from his
peaceful demeanour. At first, Pi maintained his interaction with God, but as the days passed and the
conditions worsened, Pi s animal instincts began to develop. ... Show more content on

Richard Parker is a manifestation of the qualities that Pi needs; however, an abundance of these
qualities will contribute to Pi s downfall. This concept is also represented later in the book when
the blind French cook tries to trick Pi. The cook s primitive side overpowered him, causing him
to die in the jaws of Richard Parker. If Pi did not tame his savagery, he would have been
consumed by it, which would be represented by a fatal attack from Richard Parker. While
contemplating the confrontation of his survival instincts, Pi says, to know that and to apply it
are two very different things (Martel 246). This quotation describes the concept of survival in a
lifeboat and in the real world. In both settings, it is difficult to deny yourself access to something
that is lurking inside of you and pushing with so much force. Whether this quality is easily
spotted or difficult to uncover, it is important to study it and decide if it is changing your
character. Fortunately, Pi discovered early in his journey that the primitive qualities he was
developing for survival were threatening to dominate him. After taming his savagery, Pi is pleased
with his decisions and says Isn t that what all survivors say? (Martel 247). This quotation depicts
the satisfaction in taming your inner self, while still allowing your fierce qualities to live in small

Success Is An Important Aspects Of Success
My ideal of success is setting and accomplishing goals you have set for yourself. Success can be
achieved through determination, staying focused, and overcoming obstacles. Determination is
a quality that makes you continue trying. I feel determination is an important aspect of
achieving success because staying determined to achieve a goal, gets you one step closer to
being successful in the goal you ve set for yourself. I was able to achieve my goal of becoming a
good basketball player, through determination. I started basketball when I was 12 years old,
with no experience. I was scared to get into something totally different than the usual sports I
played but wanted to achieve and be successful as a player and a teammate, so I started asking
for feedback on everything I did, like dribbling and shooting hoops. I made sure I was at every
practice and game with a positive attitude and ready to learn. I also asked for coaching assistance
and practiced once a week with a coach, in order to strive at being the best player I could be. A
few months went by and my routine of practicing every day, asking for feedback, and staying
determined to be better, paid off, I was not only a better player, but I also became the teams
MVP. Another aspect of being successful is staying focused. The word focused means to direct
time and attention to a limited number of issues. An example of someone who is staying focused,
in order to achieve being successful would be my 15 year old brother

The Incredible Work of Jane Goodall Essay
Jane Goodall is a historical woman that has taught human beings not only about chimpanzees, but
human nature as well. This primatologist held on to a dream from childhood that advanced into
reality. Jane quietly and patiently observed chimps in Africa, and then recorded their every
move. Many important discoveries came about because of this. Jane Goodall has remarkably
changed the perception of chimpanzees and humans alike. Despite the fact that Jane Goodall s
family was always on the move, her childhood was exciting. She owned a few animals that she
would frequently observe, and record what they did. According to an online source, Jane always
seemed to have an interest in all kinds of animals (Early Days 1). When Jane was a child she...

First, Leakey had to get the funding for Jane. Goodall says in her book My Life with the
Chimpanzees, July 16, 1960, was a day I shall remember all my life. It was when I first set foot on
the shingle and sand beach of Chimpanzee Land that is Gombe National Park (57). It was as if all
of her dreams were finally coming true. It is said that Leakey picked Jane because she was
patient and would be able to observe for long periods of time. It was not long into Jane s
research at Gombe that she discovered that chimpanzees are resourceful enough to design their
own tools (Facklam 40). The chimps came up with clever and innovative ways to do this. They
chewed leaves just enough to crush them, put the leaf sponge into the water and soak it up, and
sucked on the green sponge (Facklam 40). Jane was very excited about this discovery that she
instantly contacted Leakey to let him know. He then said, we must redefine Man, redefine tool, or
accept chimpanzees as humans (Goodall 802 )
Not only did Jane discover their tool making abilities, but also they eat both plants and animals,
such as bush pigs and termites (Goodall 1971). This fascinated many other primatologists because
chimps were once thought of as herbivores. Jane also realized chimpanzees seem to express the
same feelings humans do, though it is not certain (Goodall 598). Examples of such emotions are
love, confusion, fear, and aggression. They often show love and care to

Summary Of Thorstein Veblen s Theory Of Leisure Disposition
Thorstein Veblen was an economist and sociologist that believed that the success of capitalism
depended on people spending money on leisure activities to represent their wealth status. It was
essential for him that people spend money on leisure activities so that the poor class would have
the desire to emulate them and work harder to achieve that same status to experience the life of
comfort. However, Richard Sennet a modern sociologist states that Veblen s theory of leisure
disposition is no longer valid and argues that a person who tries to emulate the upper class only
corrodes his character to the highest possible degree. In this paper, I will demonstrate that Veblen s
theory of emulation is not applicable to the new modern capitalism era... Show more content on

Although, Sennet states that the system itself undercuts that ability to have a strong character to
survive. Its not saying that Veblen is completely wrong, however they do not have the
appropriate character, because no one has character anymore, so there is no reason for
emulation. The ethical disposition that Sennet gives is that emulation cannot exist under the
new capitalism. There are many things that need to be taken into consideration at this point and
especially that Veblen lived in a old capitalistic era. Therefore, he did not take into consideration
that capitalism was going to turn from being a long term contract to a short one. Taking in mind
that Veblen had concrete knowledge of capitalism, he may have been able to protect his theory
from Sennet s critique. It is likely that he would have probably responded to Sennet that the
wealthy class individuals are secure no matter the type of economy they live in and do not need
to worry about the future. It is only those who are of inferior class that are affected by these
alterations of contracts because they do not have a secure trust fund to turn to for aid. They will
need to deal with the problems they may face and work harder than they already do to gain that
fake sense of secureness. As a result, Sennet would refugate his point by stating that the working
class does not have the perfectability to foster the

How Did Imperialism Affect Japan
Japan started a rapid increase of imperialism starting in the mid 19th century as their colonies
started to spread throughout East Asia. Like western imperialism, the Japanese government turned
expansion into a goal for security, national pride, resources, and manufactured goods. Along with
the many similarities with the West, Japanese also became the first non Western imperial power
and became very successful in imperial expansion, but unfortunately became obsessed with
conquering, which ultimately led them to their downfall. Imperialism significantly changed Japan,
and affected the country in ways that helped it expand and at the same time left permanent damage
that will stick with them. In 1868, Emperor Meiji became the head of Japan and at that time, Japan

For one, during Japan s imperialism, the amount of resources used over the years to create many
new technologies, ranging from agriculture tools to massive cannons and ships, was rapidly
decreasing as they used up much more resources than they could regenerate or create. As a
result, they searched for other islands looking for more raw materials including iron, wood,
minerals, and more. When they did find the raw materials and resources Japan needed, they
completely depleted all of the land s resources due to extreme demand for resources to create new
machines and finished products. Eventually, they had to move on to different lands to find a
satisfactory amount of resources to continue on building new products and technologies. But as
other countries also needed natural resources and raw materials as well, these resources rapidly
decreased and still today, resources continue to rapidly decrease, and until humanity finds a way to

My Autobiography Of My Life
I ve spent over half my life moving back to back from one state to another. I was born in Omaha,
Nebraska, and after that my parents moved to Iowa, but my earliest memories are from the
couple years we spent in Colorado. I remember going to Preschool at a school called Legacy
Lion, I remember finding out I was going to have little brothers and how excited I was that they
were twins. The day they came home was they day I got my lifelong best friends. I don t
remember the day we left nor do I remember much of the drive, but we ended up moving to
Arizona. We spent a little over a year in Arizona, my dad met up with us there. I went to
kindergarten at a school called Pima Butte with my cousin, we were in different classes but we
still saw each other all the time. My youngest brother, Logan, was born right before I started first
grade at Pima Butte. I was in school for about a month, then my mom left with my brothers and I
again and we were going to Tennessee. The night we got to Tennessee there was a huge storm,
the lightning had lit up the sky as though it were a strobe light. My mom says we spent a few
weeks there but I don t remember it. After that we went to Florida and stayed with friends for a
couple of months. I made friends with one of the girls there, her name was Makena, she had two
rats that we would take out and play with all the time. We used to walk to the library and rent

the Vietnam War, by asking the simple question, Should have the Untied States gotten involved into

Vietnam War. The Vietnam War took place in between 1947 1975. It consisted of North Vietnam
trying to make South Vietnam a communism government. The United States later joined this
conflict because of the stress North Vietnam was putting to South Vietnam to become a government

Workplace Motivation In The Workplace
One skill that managers and leaders must be able to exhibit is the ability to motivate their
employees. Administrators in all fields must find ways to hire, retain, and motivate employees
(Kroth, 2007). Workplace motivation is a result of a set of internal and external forces that cause
an employee to choose an appropriate course of action and engage in certain behaviors (Newstrom,
2015). Motivationalso requires discovering and understanding employee drives and needs, since it
originates within an individual (Newstrom, 2015). The beginning stages of motivation stem from
the manager and their behaviors, and also the employee and their drive. As we know, people tend
to develop certain motivational drives as a product of the cultural environment in which they live
(Newstrom, 2015). Engstrom Auto mirror plant began to face a recession in productivity and
employee motivation, while also facing a downturn in the industrial field as well. The plant
adopted the Scanlon Plan, the plan was originated by Joseph Scanlon in the 1930 s in order to help
small, distressed companies (Beers Collins, 2008). Problems began to develop at Engstrom when
the company began to redesign product lines to incorporate new technology. The long production
delays resulted in alienated customers, and the plant manager lacked the proper knowledge in
regards to the new technology. The plant manager was let go and Ron Bent was hired to attempt a

Ozzy Osbourne Suicide Solution Analysis
Music has a powerful influence in our lives. It is something that surrounds us every day; it has
become so attached to us that we use it as inspiration, to feel relaxed, comfortable and sometimes
we make decisions led by the type of music we are listening in that instant. During the time Ozzy
Osbourne has released many pieces of music containing very contentious messages, which is the
case of SuicideSolution . In result of this piece of music, there were some tragical deaths, making
Suicide Solutionto become controversial.
The song was released on September 20, 1980. But its outcomes did not wait too long and four
years later Osbourne was in the eye of the hurricane. On October 26, 1984, a 19 years old
American named John McCollum shot himself in his bedroom while listening to Osbourne s
songs. His parents pointed out that the song Suicide Solution had encouraged him to commit
suicide. The police reported that the solo debut Blizzard of Osbourne was found on McCollum s
turntable and they said that the last song he had listened was Suicide Solution . He shot himself
and he was found still wearing his headphones. John s parent sued Osbourne in October 1985; they
sued him and his record company. But the case was dismissed in August 1986. When this happened,
John s parents tried to bring even more attention to the case. They said that the song contained
themes of devil worship and death, they used as evidence the quote that says suicide in the only way

The Impact Of The Affordable Care Act On North Carolina s...
The Impact of the Affordable Care Act on North Carolina s Uninsured Population The
Affordable Care Act (ACA) 2010 is one of the most radical healthcare moves in legislation of
United States after Medicare and Medicaid. The main goals of ACA were to decrease the
number of uninsured and provide cost effective high quality care to all in US. According to
Kaiser Family Foundation, the potential plan of ACA was to expand coverage to 47 million
nonelderly uninsured in the nation, which included 1.6 million uninsured North Carolinians
(2014). The purpose of this paper is to review the effect of ACA on the North Carolina uninsured
population, the influence of the economy of care provided care and the ethical implications.
Impact of ACA on North Carolina Population North Carolina has the highest index of the
uninsured population approximately 1.6 million. Being uninsured has a profound impact on the
health and well being of the people. The ACA had a significant impact on the different
population categories of North Carolina. According to The Affordable Care Act 2014, Medicaid
will cover most low income people if Federal Poverty Level (FPL) is no greater than 138 percent
(Milsted, 2013). The people that have more impact are the children six to eighteen, working
parents, nonworking parents, and childless adult. Prior to Affordable Care Act, Medicaid was

The Beginning Of The Ku Klux Klan
The start of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) in 1866, expanded throughout most of the southern states by
1870. This Klan is known for its discrimination against African Americans, which has had major
effects on today s society. Making or perceiving differences and distinctions, is the definition of
discrimination (Webster dictionary). Not only did they discriminate against Africans Americans
but also Jews, and Catholics (history, com staff). Since the birth of the KKK society was not only
affected by the discrimination of the Klan, but also the activities, and the brutal events. The Klan
started in the year 1866, as a social club. The first Klan was founded in Tennessee and soon began
to expand throughout the southern states. In 1868 the Klan quickly became one of the most feared
terrorist groups. The first leader of the clan was Nathan Bedford Forrestwho was a past general in
the confederate army. Soon the clan evolved into almost every state in 1870. The second Klan
began in 1915, and ended in 1944. The third clan started in 1946 and is still active today. (PBS)
One of the Ku Klux Klans mains purposes was to protect the way they live from African Americans,
Jews, and Catholics. They had the biggest impact on African Americans. The discrimination and the
violence of the group was well known through different communities. The Klan was also known for
crucial beatings and murders against the black population. They tried to emphasize that the blacks
were a subpar race.

Human Systems And Climate Change Essay
IPCC Human Systems and Climate Change Overview
Kristen Morgan
California State University, Bakersfield
Human Systems and Climate Change
For the last decade, climate change has been a controversial topic amongst governing nations.
Determining and agreeing upon appropriate courses of action, as well as the decided effects on
populations and ecosystems have also long been debated. With little knowledge on the effects
climate change might have on the human population, as well as our ability (or inability) to adapt,
governing bodies look towards the IPCC, or Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, for
information regarding possible risks and impacts from climate change.

The TSU can also assist in preparing the Synthesis Report associated with its respective Assessment
Report. Each of the three Working groups and Task Force work to answer specific questions and
provide publications summarizing findings. All the gathered materials are composed into the final
Synthesis Report. All reports must go through two different formal reviews prior to publication.
Published in the Fourth Assessment, Working Group I identified notable understanding of
noticeable human induced climate change and current Greenhouse Gas data. One of the most
notable points from this publication was the changes in temperature and sea level from 1961 to
1990. As seen in the figure below (Changes, 2007), surface temperature is rising, average sea level
is rising, and snow cover over the Northern Hemisphere is dropping. When comparing the data with
previous centuries using the Paleoclimatic Perspective, it is noted that this change is rather unusual
and has not been observed to have occurred previously. Working Group II published their work in
the Fourth Assessment focused on the effect of climate change on human systems, as well as the
ability of these systems to adapt to changes. Also published in the Fourth Assessment, Working
Group III discusses policies to assist in mitigation of climate change.

Outline Of The Passing Of Grandson By Charles Chesnutt
I.Introduction: What are you capable of doing for your freedom? II.Thesis Statement: Author
Charles Chesnutt in the short story, The Passing of Grandison creates the main character to
reveal the conflict of man versus society to portray the lives of slaves in the 1950 s and what
they had to endure to fit in a white world. III.Body Paragraphs: 1.The first example that explores
the conflict of man versus society is shown when Colonel Owens warns Grandison about the
abolitionists. It is a clear demonstration that he is against the abolitionist and wants to make sure
Grandison is too. He describes them as desperate lunatics who starve runaway slaves until they die.
Grandison seemed to agree with Coronel Owens about how he felt towards the abolitionists. a....

Author Viktor Osinubi states in his article, Privileging the African Metaphysics of Presence in
American Slave Culture , American slavery, like many perverse institutions, developed a
peculiar culture of fear and oppression, and thousands of slaves had to learn how to navigate
this culture for their survival . 2.Another example that reveals what slaves had to endure to fit in
a white world was when Grandison and Dick Owens traveled to the north. Dick sets up
Grandison to have encounters with abolitionist, but things do not go as planned. Dick writes
letters to several abolitionists letting them know he had a slave with him so they could come to
look for Grandison. It seemed like no matter what tactic Dick was using to make Grandison
escape, it was not working. After many failed attempts to make Grandison escape, Dick came to
the realization that Grandison was a loyal slave deserving of a medal for his loyalty. a.The author

The Laws Of Evidence From The Criminal Court
In chapter one, we discuss the history of the rules of evidence and how the rules of evidence
became applicable to our modern society. The use of evidence was deeply established during the
creation of the American colonies. In comparison to many developed countries at the time, the
common law was embraced to implement a set of guidelines to punish any wrongful acts and/or to
ultimately deter criminal behavior in society. Ideally, the utilization of evidence was used and is
still used to corroborate whether an individual is guilty or innocent in the court of law. The
application of evidence in determining whether an individual is guilty or innocent has varied on a
judicial spectrum throughout time. Today, evidence is crucial in determining the guilt of an
individual, as our country has set in stone the importance of societies constitutional rights;
ultimately, one is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Evidence that is beyond a reasonable
doubt is used to guarantee a lawful conviction within the criminal court. Earlier methods of
determining a conviction in the criminal court clearly lacked the structure and fundamentals of
modern civilization. The use of ordeals was a common practice in 1066 in determining a standard
proof of guilt or innocence. Many hierarchies varied their ordeals, basing death as a sign of
innocence. For instance, the ordeal by water became a common determination of an individual s
guilt. However, the act itself had no clear foundation in determining

Essay on The Need to Treat Obsesity in the United States
The prevalence of obesity related comorbidities such as type 2 diabetes and heart diseases in the
US emphasizes the need for concerted efforts to prevent and treat obesity1 3. A decrease in п‚і5%
of body weight significantly reduces cardiovascular risk in humans4 which proves the urgency of
weight management. A combination of drug and lifestyle intervention is ideal for obesity
management5 8. Unfortunately, the current anti obesity medications that inhibit food intake or
absorption are partly effective9,10. Thus, an alternate approach is to target energy metabolism11 19
due to the fact that obesity results when energy storage in the adipose tissueexceeds its
expenditure20. However, due to the complexity of adipose tissue21, the fundamental... Show more

Accordingly, AMPK, PGC1пЃЎпЂ and their thermogenic target, the uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1)
are dramatically upregulated in K1 KO adipose tissues. Moreover, IP6K1 generated IP7 inhibits
AMPK activity in vitro. Based on these preliminary results, our working hypothesis is that IP6K1
regulates energy metabolism by inhibiting the AMPK PGC1пЃЎ pathway. To test this, we will
measure core body temperature; пЃў oxidation and browning in adipose depots of K1 KO mice fed
a high fat diet or exposed to cold stress. We will measure пЃў oxidation and mitochondrial
respiration in K1 KO adipocytes and in inducible IP6K1 knock down adipocyte cell lines. Utilizing
enzyme assays and hydrogen deuterium exchange (HDX) studies, we will determine the molecular
mechanism by which IP6K1/IP7 inhibits AMPK. Furthermore, we will monitor the AMPK
stimulator; 5 Aminoimidazole 4 carboxamide ribonucleotide (AICAR) mediated пЃў oxidation and
insulin sensitivity in K1 KO mice. Successful completion of this aim will establish IP6K1 as a
novel regulator of energy expenditure.
Aim 2: Identify functions of IP6K1 in lipolysis. K1 KO mice exhibit enhanced fasting induced
weight loss. They also display enhanced basal lipolysis and downregulation of the lipolytic
modulator perilipin1 (PLIN1) in the adipose tissues. IP6K1 possesses a lipase motif by which it
binds and stabilizes PLIN1. PKA (Protein kinase A) phosphorylates IP6K1 especially during пЃў

Udhr s Article On Lgbt Rights
Article on lgbt rights. Is acceptance of one s sexuality as important as other issues like poverty,
unemployment, global warming, natural disasters and proper health solutions for Ebola, Lyme that
put our survival itself at risk? When meditating on this question, let us also analyse our own sexual
fabric. We set the standards of our own yardsticks to measure a sexual identity as valid/ invalid,
normal/ abnormal, natural/ unnatural, acceptable/ unacceptable, moral/ immoral and finally good
/ bad. Perhaps, upon these standards we define and adopt a sexual identity that belongs to a
privileged position. One tends to overlook these privileges and rights that are available for

The country can proudly claim the progressive and radical shifts made in response to the demands
of lgbt community. Why even in the twenty first century people have to fight for equal rights as
they encounter discriminations based on sexual attitude and identity in a country that stands for
democratic and secular rules? There are many such questions one needs to ponder on, as we try to
understand the position of the lgbt community of the US juxtaposing its achievements to the ones
made in other countries across the world. Confronting homophobia, eradicating hate crimes and
providing equal rights to the lgbt community are all to be considered considerable achievements of
the society. The United States has been a country, that has seen innumerable radical movements and
fights for lgbt acceptance, presumably progressive as we still have countries that suppress the
existence of sexually marginalised community by all means.
The argument that sexual orientation is already given and it is biological becomes immaterial, when
considering the plethora of sexual cultures that one can find in the US. History makes the evidence
of the existence of variant sexual cultures like tribadism, sadomasochism and so on, available to the
society. Let us not forget that many books based on the theme of homosexualitywere banned, to

PERSUASION, INDOCTRINATION, AND INOCULATION 2 There are many dangers that
plague us in today s society. One of the most pressing issues is that of driving under the influence of
alcohol. This is a problem for many reasons. Firstly, driving while intoxicated is illegal. It shows
the rising problem of substance abuse, and most importantly, driving drunk is deadly. According
to Drinkinganddriving.org (2008 2013), 900,000 are arrested each year for DUI/DWI and a full 1/3
of those are repeat offenders . None of us are perfect. We all do things every day that... Show more

If you are convicted of DUI, it may be on your criminal record for your entire life. Offenses also
go on your driving record, which potential employers and insurers can access, ( How Stuff Works
, 1998 2013). If you are driving under the influence of alcohol, the chances of you having a
substance abuse problem are very high. Substance abuse, simply put, is losing control of yourself
to a substance. If you do not have enough self control, or common sense, not to get into a vehicle
when you have any type of foreign substance in your body, then you have a serious problem. Sure,
you may not be waking up at eight in the morning and devouring a bottle of gin, but you are not
only putting yourself in danger, but also others. With the amount of people in the United states that
have problems with alcohol, and the amount of DUI s that are given, the correlation between the
numbers is not at all surprising.
Alcohol is the number one drug problem in America. There are more than 12 million alcoholics
in the U.S. Three fourths of all adults drink alcohol, and 6% of them are alcoholics. Americans
spend $197 million each day on alcohol. In the United States, a person is killed in an alcohol
related car accident every 30 minutes. A 2000 study found nearly 7 million persons age 12 to 20
were binge drinkers. Three fourths of all high school seniors report being drunk at least once.

Romanticism And Romanticism
In Anna Karenina, Vintage Tolstoy said, He stepped down, trying not to look long at her, as if
she were the sun, yet he saw her, like the sun, even without looking. If he tags a girl likes the sun,
which means he is not seeing anything else, seeing nothing but only that girl in his eyes. Just a
few short words that have great train wreck coming and only those who are always delusions of love
frantically, can claw up such that verse. With a person who always adores love and follows the
feeling like me, the Romantic era got me in.
The major strides give people a better understanding of the human person the central figure of art, a
better understanding of the relationship between human nature, and also society. In this context
appeared more likely, many artistic movements, what s including Romanticism, are present in the
field of literature, painting, music... Romanticism comes from the romances of medieval times,
which to refer to knights, heroes, and distant lands, unfinished love ... It s the result of emotional
expression, subjective mood of the people, by reflecting the dreams and aspirations of ordinary
people should rise above reality.
The Wuthering Height by Emily Bronte is a diamond in the treasures of English literature. At the
beginning of the novel, it was a little sleepy and we would see some strange things in the house

Constructivism Research Paper
I chose the topic of Constructivism because I know absolutely nothing of it. This lack of

The gauntlet was down and the challenge accepted: I would find all I could on Constructivism!
When the Bolsheviks came into power during the October Revolution of 1917 in what is modern
day Russia, there was an evolution going on that wasn t entirely political. Constructivism would be
considered the last modern art movement in Russia but would also be the most influential.
Constructivism was highly influenced by both Cubism and Futurism, with heavy emphasis on
abstraction and the purity of geometric forms, much like Suprematism. Russian painter and
architect Vladimir Tatlin founded the movement, although never considered himself a
Constructivist but rather a Productivist, by creating sculptural constructions. He made his
assemblages out of industrial materials such as wood, plaster, glass, and metal. The social and
political ideals of Tatlin and that of the Russian avant garde were in alignment with the Russian
populace during the revolution. Tatlin lived under state sponsored agendas for art and for the most

Racial Disparity In The Criminal Justice System
Instead of not only studying the analysis, evaluating the reasoning, and arguing the grave
statistics of racial disparities of age/ population and race/ethnicity, and incarceration within the
walls of America s criminal justice system, we ought to argue the facts as well as consider the
evidence and approach through ethical and logical appeals in order to understand the beliefs,
values, and perspectives of the problematic issues of the uneven justices and racially bias policies
in relation to the escalating rates of people of color being incarcerated. Racial disparity directly
impacts the incarcerated and also negatively impacts and devastatingly affects society outside the
walls of the criminal justice system. The families of the incarcerated are affected by emotional loss
and possibly financial loss. The communities are subjected to the resulting effects of the costs of a
flourishing incarceration system, and the safety of the welfare of the general public benefits unfairly.
First, I will briefly explain the demographical understanding of the differential age structure of a
population and how criminology also it plays a role in contributing to race and incarceration

What is meditation? Meditation is intentionally self regulating attention from a moment to another.
It is a self regulated process carried out by people to focus to relax and calm the body and mind.
Meditation focusses on forgetting everything and giving attention only to inner self. As exercise if
for the body, meditation is for the mind. In Latin, the meaning of the word, Meditari means to think
or to dwell upon and mederi means to heal. The Sanskrit derivation of this is medha that means
wisdom . Meditation is practiced as it has positive effect on psychological and physical health.
Meditation helps increasing cerebral blood flow, keeping rate of heart and respiration normal,
decreasing muscle tension and also helps in reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression.
Meditation can be done in various styles. Some styles of meditation are Mudra Yoga, Chakra Yoga,
Sufism, Rinzai Zen, Yoto Zen and Buddhist insight meditation. There are two common and most

Antisocial Personality Disorder ( Aspd )
Antisocial personality disorder (ASPD), opposition defiant disorder (ODD), and conduct
disorder (CD) are three distinct disorders based upon their respective diagnostic criteria in the
DSM 5. If ODD and CD were mild forms of ASPD, then there would need to be causal
relationship between the childhood manifestations of ODD and CD and the adult manifestation
of ASPD. There is evidence of comorbidity between ODD and CD, and also evidence to suggest
that children diagnosed with these disorders may go on to develop ASPD later in life; however,
correlation does not equal causation. The three disorders have subtle but important differences
in their associated behaviors, underlying causes, treatment outcomes, and neurological signs. To
an untrained observer, ODD may appear as the mildest form of the three disorders; however, this
misunderstanding is based on observations of a limited set of behaviors that are characteristic of
ASPD which do not apply to ODD. ODD is an early onset disorder, and as such, the behaviors
characteristic of the disorder are characteristic of children: angry or irritable moods,
argumentative or defiant behavior, and vindictiveness. These behaviors are not present in ASPD
or CD. In fact, the defining characteristic that separates the behaviors observed in ODD and CD
disorders is that the behaviors observed in CD impedes the basic rights of others or violate the
major age appropriate societal norms but ODD exhibit internalized behaviors that may simply annoy

SWOT Analysis Of Persistent Poverty In South Carolina
Poverty in South Carolina is an issue for all citizens. The issue is particularly acute if you are a
citizen living in poverty, but the issue is of critical importance to those citizens that must support
those areas stricken by persistent poverty. Unbeknownst to many South Carolinians is the persistent
povertycorridor in which certain counties struggle much more than others along Interstate 95.
Allendale County stands out even amongst its peers as a county that is struggling to address
multigenerational poverty. This paper deals with Allendale County poverty beginning by offering
insight into poverty issues within South Carolina, followed by a SWOT analysis, a finagling
offering a few possible solutions.
Persistent Poverty in South Carolina
Poverty within the United States is defined as having an income below a federally determined
poverty threshold. Poverty thresholds were developed by the United States government in the
1960s to benchmark levels of subsistence. Over time these thresholds are often adjusted to
account for inflation; it is now typical for the federal government to adjust the poverty threshold
levels annually. Poverty levels represent the government s estimate of the point below which a
family has insufficient resources to meet their basic needs. Any family with less income than the
established poverty amount is officially classified as poor or as living in poverty. Income, as
defined by the federal rules, can include cash and cash like welfare

There were some interesting points that were made throughout the article, some that I totally agree
with and some that were very surprising to me. One of the main points discussed is how the
pressure is steadily rising among students to have the best scores as they possibly can on the tests.
With an incline in technological advances, students have more accessibility to sources that can be
very beneficial to them at the time. However, it can also lead to be very dangerous and
consequential to them. I am sort of indecisive about high stakes testing. I agree with high stakes
testing in the sense that it prepares students for college, enhances their test taking skills, and
assesses their learning. On the other hand, is it really worth stressing students and teachers out to
the max when it is just a test? Is this perfection that students strive so hard for leading to cheating
so that they can have the better score than the others? I believe that schools in general should focus
on the achievement of students instead of the number that they scored on a test that they took.
Some schools even go as far as cutting subjects such as history, art, music, and geography out of the
curriculum because they are not important. Another main topic in this article was teaching to the
test. We discussed in lecture, Is it really teaching to the test if you are teaching the material, and it
just happens to be covered on the test? The answer was no. I don t agree with teaching to the test. I
think students should know more information than what is just going to be on the test. There is a
fine line between teaching to the test and actually teaching the test itself. The most surprising
information in this article to me was that approximately forty percent of teachers either gave
students hints, encouraged them to change their answers on the test, allocated the students more
time for the tests or simply taught

The Electoral College Should Be Abolished

will represent the US in all domestic and international affairs; The President. Currently, we have
many troops in Iraq fighting to help them establish a democracy. We are giving the citizens a

democratic is our system overall? What many people don t realize or care to face, is we don t

What, do I chuse [sic] Samuel Miles to determine for me whether John Adams or Thomas Jefferson
shall be President? No! I chuse [sic] him to act, not to think! was the outcry of an angry Federalist
as written in the United States Gazette (Peirce, 23). Since then there has been more than 8 cases
of faithless votes being cast (Peirce, 23). The problem that has brought the Electoral College to
the spotlight in the past few years is the fact that the Electoral College winner does not always
reflect the winner of the popular vote. This has already occurred three times in history: Rutherford
B. Hays vs. Samuel J. Tilden in 1876, Benjamin Harrison vs. Grover Cleveland in 1888 and most
recently, the 2000 election between Gore and Bush (Cornwell). Although half a million more
Americans voted for Al Gore than did for George Bush, Bush won the Electoral College 271 to
266, granting him the presidency (Abolish the Electoral College). It doesn t make much sense
that the candidate in which received a majority of the votes overall would lose. Another way to
understand the Electoral College is to take an in depth look at it s origins. The Electoral College
is a system based on historic policies that no longer exist and are irrelevant to modern voting. The

I had special someone to hang out with, several hobbies, and I feel completely comfortable
spending weeks or even months in my hometown sometimes even on my block without going
anywhere. All my demands of novelty were satisfied by the Discovery the wild life and the

The same fog was covering the surroundings, and even though I was teeming with positive
emotions, I feel disappointed, because I counted on seeing the view from above and perhaps
being able to take some photos. We spent a couple of hours on the top, and decided to turn back,
when the wind suddenly dispersed the clouds, and the plateau we were standing on became
illuminated with the sun. I saw a fantastic skies and clouds in front of me, and for some
moments I couldn t believe my eyes. Seeing all those mountain ridges, cliffs, and edges on my
own eyes, not on TELEVESION, INTERNET was like a revelation for me. The strong wind
blew right into my face, and I just stood there and watched shreds of fog gliding over the ground
far beneath me. At that moments, that I can realized that I won t be able to lives a life without
visiting and seeing the beautiful mountains at least One a year or twice a year and I told Joana,

Advantages Of Privatisation In Malaysia
The privatisation initiative in Malaysia was introduced at the correct juncture in the country s
development. It is undeniable that the basis for privatisation was in keeping with current economic
thinking. The rationale for privatisation is based on the premise that governments should restrict
themselves to governing and not venture into running businesses. There are several reasons for this
argument, including the undesirability of a large bureaucracy, the inefficiencies of centralised
planning and the crowding out of private investment. The implementation of privatisation could be
undertaken in such a manner as to undermine the benefits that would otherwise accrue. The proper
conduct of privatisation requires that efficiency and transparency should be considered in the
implementation process. Otherwise, the outcomes might not be efficient and there will be an
extremely welfare loss. The implementation of privatisation requires that proper institutions be...

The PAP was reviewed annually with a view to identify measures to expedite the implementation of
the programme and to determine the entities to be privatised in the following two years. The PAP
was guided by a study undertaken by private consultants who were commissioned by the
government to review the advisability of privatising government owned entities (GOEs). The
government at that time, did institute a plan for privatisation. The PMP did define its objectives
clearly; it also identified the activities that were to be privatised. The PMP did rank the priority by
which projects were to be privatised, indicating those that were of national importance. PAP was
instead, concerned with the different categories of activities to be privatised and the methods for
restructuring non profitable companies. This document also outlined the stages in the
implementation of

Leatherback Sea Turtle Research Papers
The Leatherback sea turtle being in the family of Dermochelyidae is a very unique type of sea
turtle out of the 7 8 species that there are (Foster). Leatherback Sea Turtles are the largest of the
species of sea turtles alive today. They are found in oceans all around the world and are known
to travel large distances throughout their lives ( Leatherback Sea Turtle Facts For Kids, With
Pictures Video. Active Wild). The Leatherback sea turtle has a very critical time period in their
life, birth. The males and females mate several weeks before nesting season begins often only
being between the ages of 8 and 15 years of age , and after mating only the females come ashore
to lay their eggs (World, Seaturtle. Leatherback Sea Turtle. ). This routine takes place during the
night, and during this time the female sea turtle excavates a hole in the sand, depositing around 80
eggs, filling the nest, leaving a large, disturbed area of sand that makes detection by predators
difficult, and finally returning to the sea ( Leatherback Nat). The sex of the egg is determined by
the temperature inside the nest, so a female hatchling is produced at a higher temperature whereas
male hatchlings are produced in colder temperatures. When the eggs do hatch the males and
females go their separate ways, Female hatchlings that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This particular shell is very different in various ways, like its bone structure, and also its texture
which is how it got its name. Instead of having hard shells like the other sea turtles, the
Leatherback s shell is more like a thick, rubbery skin it is kind of like leather, hence the name (
Leatherback Act). Most sea turtles have a hard shell, but the leatherback does not, instead it has a
flexible, tough, leathery skin. It has seven ridges along its length, and is shaped to slip through the
water with minimal resistance ( Leatherback

Rhode Island Narrative
Cross Point, Rhode Island. A small port town hidden within the quiet safety of a dense forest; a
place where they say anyone can cross paths, you just have to choose the right one to take.
Where you control your own destiny. At least, that s what Evelyn Price and her friends had been
told since the day they were born. If you were to ask them, they d tell you what a dull place their
home was, a place where nothing ever happened. It was September, the start of her senior year.
Evelyn woke up at the crack of dawn as her routine dictated, completely rested and ready for her
first day of her senior year at Cross Point High. The young woman combed her short hairinto place,
styling it back into her smooth bob and brushing some of her... Show more content on

Her emerald eyes piercing through the room as she held her school bag loosely on one shoulder.
Next was a darkly tanned girl, she very obviously looked Hawaiian with her long, wavy black hair
cascading down over her shoulders and just past her bosom. Her chocolate colored orbs also
scanning the room filled with new faces. She wore a lavender, sweater over her black undershirt, it
falling slightly off her shoulders, a gray pleated skirt, black flats and a flower crown headband
completing her look. At first glance they seemed happy to be there, but the more Evelyn looked
there was just something offsetting about their searching eyes that were hidden behind their
overexerted grins...
Welcome to Cross Point ladies, I am Mr. Banks, I will be your homeroom and history teacher this
year. He said formally towards them, he then gestured towards the rest of the class, You may
introduce yourselves now. The raven haired girl was the first to speak up, Leilani Kahele. But you
can just call me Lani. She smiled brightly with a soft chuckle. (Some guys swooning over her
already..)
Next was the blonde. She was simple and to the point with her introduction, but not too blunt where
she came off as rude, Aria

The Origins Of The Oldest Civilization
The oldest civilization was in Mesopotamia between two rivers. Mesopotamia means the land
between the rivers. Hence the name, Mesopotamia is found in the Fertile Crescent between the
Tigris and the Euphrates Rivers, which is now known as Iraq. Since the land was very fertile in
Mesopotamia, the crops grew incredibly well and that helped lead to the development of
civilizations. Mesopotamiahad eight civilizations: Sumer, Akkad, Babylon, Hittites, Assyria, New
Babylon, Phoenicians, and Israel. Sumer lasted from 3200 b.c. until 1900 b.c. Sumer was ruled
by a king who had the responsibility of maintaining the city walls and the irrigation systems.
Once the king passes, his power is then passed down to the next eligible son in the family which
is known as hereditary rule. Sumer was a Theocracy, meaning that the religious leaders were in
charge of the government and ruling system. The officials or ruler of Sumer kept records, led
armies into war, enforced laws, and collected taxes. The people of Sumer were Polytheistic; they
believed in many gods. There was also a large religious stepped platform dedicated to every city
state s chief god or goddess named Ziggurat. Sumerians came up with the style of Cuneiform
writing and in addition they used a system of pictographs for communication. This helped them
document and keep records. They also had ideas and theories of Astronomy and math. Sumer
farmed and traded and it had the world s first cities, Ur, Uruk, and Babylon. Overall ,

The Differences Between The Native Taiwanese And...
When I was younger, I didn t quite understand the differences between the Native Taiwanese and
Mainlander in Taiwan, where Mainlander referred to Chinese migrants during or after the period
of the surrender of Imperial Japan, and World War II. It wasn t until much later that I understood
why Taiwanese divided among themselves. I was told that my mother s side of family have
experienced the White Terror, which refers to the entire period from 1947 to 1987, during this
period, many of the family lands was confiscated by the Kuomintang, the Chinese nationalist party.
It was also during the White Terror period that Mandarin Chinese languagewas established as the
official language of Taiwan, and the other native language mainly Taiwanese was considered as
taboo and forbidden. The language differences are especially obvious between Northern and
Southern of Taiwan, while my mother s side of the family resident in the South, as I grow up in the
North, I speak mainly Mandarin Chinese, and I can understand but not quite fluent in Taiwanese.
My grandfather on my father s side was a general of the Chinese military that defeated the
Nationalists and declaring the People s Republic of China then retreat to Taiwan in 1949. He
stayed in the military and retired at an older age. As for my mother s side of the family whom
has resided in Taiwan during and likely before the period between 1895 and 1945, while Taiwan
was under Japanese rule and was a dependency of the Empire of Japan. They

The social experiences of these young women gives different clues to the ways in which these women constructed and gave meaning to their lives between the years of 1880 1920. The laboring poor s leisure activity was brief, casual, and non commercial. Amusement was and had to be cheap. It mostly consisted of walks, visiting friends, and reading the penny press. Dancing was the greatest passion of all for the single working woman. This is where they played out their cultural style. This is also where it became easy for young men and women to interact. The dance craze gave way to dance halls, which could now be rented for large meetings, weddings, dances and other gatherings. What mattered in the dance hall was popularity, dancing ability, fashionable clothes and male attention. Still women had a hard time getting past reality. Their work and family life undercut their social freedom. Excursions also played a big part in women s leisure time. Women could now afford to use trolleys and they used these to socialize with men. Before the shipwreck, Pi was a spiritual individual with a strong appreciation for the joy and peace in life. Pi commonly experienced cruelty and doubt from his family and friends; however, he remained calm by following the guidance from his three religions. Richard Parker is a manifestation of the qualities that Pi needs; however, an abundance of these qualities will contribute to Pi s downfall. This concept is also represented later in the book when the blind French cook tries to trick Pi. The cook s primitive side overpowered him, causing him to die in the jaws of Richard Parker. If Pi did not tame his savagery, he would have been consumed by it, which would be represented by a fatal attack from Richard Parker. While contemplating the confrontation of his survival instincts, Pi says, to know that and to apply it are two very different things (Martel 246). This quotation describes the concept of survival in a lifeboat and in the real world. In both settings, it is difficult to deny yourself access to something that is lurking inside of you and pushing with so much force. Whether this quality is easily spotted or difficult to uncover, it is important to study it and decide if it is changing your character. Fortunately, Pi discovered early in his journey that the primitive qualities he was developing for survival were threatening to dominate him. Success can be achieved through determination, staying focused, and overcoming obstacles. Determination is a quality that makes you continue trying. I feel determination is an important aspect of achieving success because staying determined to achieve a goal, gets you one step closer to being successful in the goal you ve set for yourself. I was able to achieve my goal of becoming a good basketball player, through determination. I started basketball when I was 12 years old, with no experience. I was scared to get into something totally different than the usual sports I played but wanted to achieve and be successful as a player and a teammate, so I started asking for feedback on everything I did, like dribbling and shooting hoops. I made sure I was at every practice and game with a positive attitude and ready to learn. I also asked for coaching assistance and practiced once a week with a coach, in order to strive at being the best player I could be. A few months went by and my routine of practicing every day, asking for feedback, and staying determined to be better, paid off, I was not only a better player, but I also became the teams MVP. Another aspect of being successful is staying focused. The word focused means to direct time and attention to a limited number of issues. It is said that Leakey picked Jane because she was patient and would be able to observe for long periods of time. It was not long into Jane s research at Gombe that she discovered that chimpanzees are resourceful enough to design their own tools (Facklam 40). The chimps came up with clever and innovative ways to do this. They chewed leaves just enough to crush them, put the leaf sponge into the water and soak it up, and sucked on the green sponge (Facklam 40). Jane was very excited about this discovery that she instantly contacted Leakey to let him know. He then said, we must redefine Man, redefine tool, or accept chimpanzees as humans (Goodall 802 ) Not only did Jane discover their tool making abilities, but also they eat both plants and animals, such as bush pigs and termites (Goodall 1971). This fascinated many other primatologists because chimps were once thought of as herbivores. Jane also realized chimpanzees seem to express the same feelings humans do, though it is not certain (Goodall 598). Examples of such emotions are love, confusion, fear, and aggression. • 10. Summary Of Thorstein Veblen s Theory Of Leisure Disposition Thorstein Veblen was an economist and sociologist that believed that the success of capitalism depended on people spending money on leisure activities to represent their wealth status. It was essential for him that people spend money on leisure activities so that the poor class would have the desire to emulate them and work harder to achieve that same status to experience the life of comfort. However, Richard Sennet a modern sociologist states that Veblen s theory of leisure disposition is no longer valid and argues that a person who tries to emulate the upper class only corrodes his character to the highest possible degree. Although, Sennet states that the system itself undercuts that ability to have a strong character to survive. Its not saying that Veblen is completely wrong, however they do not have the appropriate character, because no one has character anymore, so there is no reason for emulation. The ethical disposition that Sennet gives is that emulation cannot exist under the new capitalism. There are many things that need to be taken into consideration at this point and especially that Veblen lived in a old capitalistic era. Therefore, he did not take into consideration that capitalism was going to turn from being a long term contract to a short one. Taking in mind that Veblen had concrete knowledge of capitalism, he may have been able to protect his theory from Sennet s critique. It is likely that he would have probably responded to Sennet that the wealthy class individuals are secure no matter the type of economy they live in and do not need to worry about the future. It is only those who are of inferior class that are affected by these alterations of contracts because they do not have a secure trust fund to turn to for aid. They will need to deal with the problems they may face and work harder than they already do to gain that fake sense of secureness. As a result, Sennet would refugate his point by stating that the working class does not have the perfectability to foster the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Published in the Fourth Assessment, Working Group I identified notable understanding of noticeable human induced climate change and current Greenhouse Gas data. One of the most notable points from this publication was the changes in temperature and sea level from 1961 to 1990. As seen in the figure below (Changes, 2007), surface temperature is rising, average sea level is rising, and snow cover over the Northern Hemisphere is dropping. When comparing the data with previous centuries using the Paleoclimatic Perspective, it is noted that this change is rather unusual and has not been observed to have occurred previously. II.Thesis Statement: Author Charles Chesnutt in the short story, The Passing of Grandison creates the main character to reveal the conflict of man versus society to portray the lives of slaves in the 1950 s and what they had to endure to fit in a white world. III.Body Paragraphs: 1.The first example that explores the conflict of man versus society is shown when Colonel Owens warns Grandison about the abolitionists. It is a clear demonstration that he is against the abolitionist and wants to make sure Grandison is too. He describes them as desperate lunatics who starve runaway slaves until they die. Author Viktor Osinubi states in his article, Privileging the African Metaphysics of Presence in American Slave Culture , American slavery, like many perverse institutions, developed a peculiar culture of fear and oppression, and thousands of slaves had to learn how to navigate this culture for their survival . 2.Another example that reveals what slaves had to endure to fit in a white world was when Grandison and Dick Owens traveled to the north. Dick sets up Grandison to have encounters with abolitionist, but things do not go as planned. Dick writes letters to several abolitionists letting them know he had a slave with him so they could come to look for Grandison. It seemed like no matter what tactic Dick was using to make Grandison escape, it was not working. After many failed attempts to make Grandison escape, Dick came to the realization that Grandison was a loyal slave deserving of a medal for his loyalty. a.The author Leora H. • 24. The Laws Of Evidence From The Criminal Court In chapter one, we discuss the history of the rules of evidence and how the rules of evidence became applicable to our modern society. The use of evidence was deeply established during the creation of the American colonies. In comparison to many developed countries at the time, the common law was embraced to implement a set of guidelines to punish any wrongful acts and/or to ultimately deter criminal behavior in society. Ideally, the utilization of evidence was used and is still used to corroborate whether an individual is guilty or innocent in the court of law. The application of evidence in determining whether an individual is guilty or innocent has varied on a judicial spectrum throughout time. Today, evidence is crucial in determining the guilt of an individual, as our country has set in stone the importance of societies constitutional rights; ultimately, one is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Evidence that is beyond a reasonable doubt is used to guarantee a lawful conviction within the criminal court. Earlier methods of determining a conviction in the criminal court clearly lacked the structure and fundamentals of modern civilization. The use of ordeals was a common practice in 1066 in determining a standard proof of guilt or innocence. Many hierarchies varied their ordeals, basing death as a sign of innocence. For instance, the ordeal by water became a common determination of an individual s guilt. However, the act itself had no clear foundation in determining ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A combination of drug and lifestyle intervention is ideal for obesity management5 8. Unfortunately, the current anti obesity medications that inhibit food intake or absorption are partly effective9,10. Accordingly, AMPK, PGC1пЃЎпЂ and their thermogenic target, the uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1) are dramatically upregulated in K1 KO adipose tissues. Moreover, IP6K1 generated IP7 inhibits AMPK activity in vitro. Based on these preliminary results, our working hypothesis is that IP6K1 regulates energy metabolism by inhibiting the AMPK PGC1пЃЎ pathway. To test this, we will measure core body temperature; пЃў oxidation and browning in adipose depots of K1 KO mice fed a high fat diet or exposed to cold stress. We will measure пЃў oxidation and mitochondrial respiration in K1 KO adipocytes and in inducible IP6K1 knock down adipocyte cell lines. Furthermore, we will monitor the AMPK stimulator; 5 Aminoimidazole 4 carboxamide ribonucleotide (AICAR) mediated пЃў oxidation and insulin sensitivity in K1 KO mice. Successful completion of this aim will establish IP6K1 as a novel regulator of energy expenditure. Aim 2: Identify functions of IP6K1 in lipolysis. K1 KO mice exhibit enhanced fasting induced weight loss. They also display enhanced basal lipolysis and downregulation of the lipolytic modulator perilipin1 (PLIN1) in the adipose tissues. We set the standards of our own yardsticks to measure a sexual identity as valid/ invalid, normal/ abnormal, natural/ unnatural, acceptable/ unacceptable, moral/ immoral and finally good / bad. One of the most pressing issues is that of driving under the influence of alcohol. This is a problem for many reasons. Firstly, driving while intoxicated is illegal. It shows the rising problem of substance abuse, and most importantly, driving drunk is deadly. If you do not have enough self control, or common sense, not to get into a vehicle when you have any type of foreign substance in your body, then you have a serious problem. Sure, you may not be waking up at eight in the morning and devouring a bottle of gin, but you are not only putting yourself in danger, but also others. With the amount of people in the United states that have problems with alcohol, and the amount of DUI s that are given, the correlation between the numbers is not at all surprising. Alcohol is the number one drug problem in America. There are more than 12 million alcoholics in the U.S. Three fourths of all adults drink alcohol, and 6% of them are alcoholics. When the Bolsheviks came into power during the October Revolution of 1917 in what is modern day Russia, there was an evolution going on that wasn t entirely political. Constructivism would be considered the last modern art movement in Russia but would also be the most influential. Constructivism was highly influenced by both Cubism and Futurism, with heavy emphasis on abstraction and the purity of geometric forms, much like Suprematism. Antisocial Personality Disorder ( Aspd ) Antisocial personality disorder (ASPD), opposition defiant disorder (ODD), and conduct disorder (CD) are three distinct disorders based upon their respective diagnostic criteria in the DSM 5. If ODD and CD were mild forms of ASPD, then there would need to be causal relationship between the childhood manifestations of ODD and CD and the adult manifestation of ASPD. There is evidence of comorbidity between ODD and CD, and also evidence to suggest that children diagnosed with these disorders may go on to develop ASPD later in life; however, correlation does not equal causation. The three disorders have subtle but important differences in their associated behaviors, underlying causes, treatment outcomes, and neurological signs. To an untrained observer, ODD may appear as the mildest form of the three disorders; however, this misunderstanding is based on observations of a limited set of behaviors that are characteristic of ASPD which do not apply to ODD. ODD is an early onset disorder, and as such, the behaviors characteristic of the disorder are characteristic of children: angry or irritable moods, argumentative or defiant behavior, and vindictiveness. These behaviors are not present in ASPD or CD. In fact, the defining characteristic that separates the behaviors observed in ODD and CD disorders is that the behaviors observed in CD impedes the basic rights of others or violate the major age appropriate societal norms but ODD exhibit internalized behaviors that may simply annoy ... This paper deals with Allendale County poverty beginning by offering insight into poverty issues within South Carolina, followed by a SWOT analysis, a finagling offering a few possible solutions. Persistent Poverty in South Carolina Poverty within the United States is defined as having an income below a federally determined poverty threshold. Poverty thresholds were developed by the United States government in the 1960s to benchmark levels of subsistence. Over time these thresholds are often adjusted to account for inflation; it is now typical for the federal government to adjust the poverty threshold levels annually. Poverty levels represent the government s estimate of the point below which a family has insufficient resources to meet their basic needs. Any family with less income than the established poverty amount is officially classified as poor or as living in poverty. One of the main points discussed is how the pressure is steadily rising among students to have the best scores as they possibly can on the tests. With an incline in technological advances, students have more accessibility to sources that can be very beneficial to them at the time. However, it can also lead to be very dangerous and consequential to them. I am sort of indecisive about high stakes testing. I agree with high stakes testing in the sense that it prepares students for college, enhances their test taking skills, and assesses their learning. On the other hand, is it really worth stressing students and teachers out to the max when it is just a test? Is this perfection that students strive so hard for leading to cheating so that they can have the better score than the others? I believe that schools in general should focus on the achievement of students instead of the number that they scored on a test that they took. Some schools even go as far as cutting subjects such as history, art, music, and geography out of the curriculum because they are not important. Another main topic in this article was teaching to the test. We discussed in lecture, Is it really teaching to the test if you are teaching the material, and it just happens to be covered on the test? The answer was no. I don t agree with teaching to the test. I think students should know more information than what is just going to be on the test. There is a fine line between teaching to the test and actually teaching the test itself. Since then there has been more than 8 cases of faithless votes being cast (Peirce, 23). The problem that has brought the Electoral College to the spotlight in the past few years is the fact that the Electoral College winner does not always reflect the winner of the popular vote. This has already occurred three times in history: Rutherford B. Hays vs. Samuel J.
