Agamemnon By Euripides Essay
Euripides was classic Athens. He is one of whose plays have long survived. Importantly, he was well
identified with theatrical innovation, which has profoundly influenced drama up to the modern times,
most especially in the representation of traditional, mythical heroes as the ordinary people in an
extraordinary circumstance. Apparently, was so unique among many writers of ancient Athens because
of his abundant sympathy that he demonstrated towards the victims of society, most especially being
women. Agamemnon, Orestes and Electra were the main characters in the plays. The play revolves
around the leader of Greek forces, Agamemnon, and his deadly decision to sacrifice his first daughter
Iphigenia, to preserve his honor by doing battle against ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Later, Orestes killed two sons of Thestes and cut them into pieces, then served them at a banquet to
their father during an honor of his return (277). It was a horrible experience for Thyestes after
discovering what was prepared for his meal. He then went away from Argos with only his infant child
called Aegisthus after cursing both Orestes and his descendants. After the death of Orestes, the throne
was left under Agamemnon his son, who later married a daughter of Sparta s king. They bore three
children, of which one inherited his father s throne upon death. The remaining son of Orestes married
Helen, who became king of Sparta upon her father s death. Another seduction in the descendants of
Orestes occurs. Later after the wedding, Paris who was the son of Troy s king, seduced Helen then
took her away. A great force was organized to restore Helen to her husband. However, due to adverse
winds, they were unable to sail towards Troy. They appeased goddess Artemis to calm the winds by
sacrificing a young girl who arrived at the camp. They sailed to Troas but there was a lot of
justification of the murder of their mother by Orestes who was later afflicted with madness then goes
to become a spirit to hunt and punish murderers

Andy Mineo Research Paper
What do these three things have in common, a party bus, a skate park, and Nerf wars? If your answer
was they were all part of the exclusive listening party for Andy Mineo s latest album, you were
correct! The promotion for the listening party was advertised via Andy s social media platforms such
as Twitter and Facebook. The fortunate ones who responded and and confirmed their attendance were
treated to a fun filled day by Reach Records. As the party bus from Brooklyn arrived at 50/50 Skate
Park in Staten Island, we watched a few professional skateboarders doing their best tricks. The next
portion of the day involved huge blow up bean bags of Andy Mineo from the new album cover,
protective glasses, and Nerf guns. Andy appeared out of some ... Show more content on

Andy talks about the real love that no one truly refers to in today s society and gives his perspective.
The beat on Love is sure to have all who listen nodding their head with serious fervor. We all had the
proverbial stank face as we listened to the track blast through the bus sound system. Andy Mineo has
taken his lyricism up a notch on Uncomfortable, providing very thought provoking scenarios
alongside witty bars and one liners. Rat Race which features acclaimed singer/songwriter Jon Bellion,
causes the listener to truly evaluate the way this world runs. Andy offers a very candid and realistic
look at life, proclaiming in the hook he is okay with being in last place. The true worth of life is not
wrapped up in all that one acquires in this life. A sobering message that is very anti present day
culture. Andy has been known to be a very transparent artist, detailing his life through his music. The
next single from Uncomfortable will be Hear My Heart , a song he wrote for his sister Grace. The
song is a touching track that sheds light on his family dynamic and some of the struggles his sister
went through. The musical accompaniment fits the subject matter beautifully and one can feel it was a

Analysis Of Tobias Wolff s Hunters
You fat moron, You aren t good for diddly (Arp 94). Being told these words over and over again, a
person eventually becomes discouraged and insecure. In Tobias Wolff s story, Hunters in the Snow,
main character, Tub is emotionally abused throughout the story. Tub s two friends, Frank and Kenny
haggle him about his personal appearance and sensitivity as he struggles throughout the story.
Frustration and insecurities lead him to the conflict that he always tries to avoid. The emotional abuse
causes Tub to be illogical and sensitive, but then eventually pushes him to become inconsiderate and
self centered.
Tub, the protagonist of the story, is welcomed into the story right in the beginning. The attention on
him is what makes the story. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He doesn t try to make fun of others like Kenny and Frank. Tub tries to cope with the insults. Tub
being soft and emotional, his emotions escalate inside. He never confronts Kenny and Frank when
they say things like, You haven t seen your ball in ten years, he just brushes those type of comments
off, but inside those snide comments kill him (Arp 88). He brushes those comments off so it does not
lead to conflict.
Due to Tub being emotional, he can also be weak. Him being weak causes him to complain at times
during the story, he appears to be tender and easily harmed. Tub complains throughout the story
saying, I waited an hour and I m cold (Arp 86 and 87). Kenny and Frank never show compassion
towards him, making Tub seek even more attention and compassion from them. Tub hoped for Frank
and Kenny to be compassionate and made excuses for his self when he says that his gland problem is
what causes him to be obese. Frank and Kenny continue to make fun of him and show no compassion
at all.
Due to Tub being insecure, he longs for acceptance. In an act of hopelessness, Tub lies about having a
gland problem that causes him to not be able to lose weight on his diet. When Kenny confronts Tub
about not losing any weight as he eats his one hard boiled egg and a stick of celery, Tub gets
defensive, You think I like hard boiled eggs (Arp 88). Lying about his gland problem is one way he
tries to get Kenny and Frank to

Function Of A Value Of X Essay
Up to now if I gave you an equation, and asked you to solve it for x you would be, in general, looking
for a value of x which solved the equation. Given:
x^2+3x+2=0
You can solve this equation to find two values of x.
I could also give you an equation which linked x and y explicitly, and you could find a relationship
between the two which, given a value of x would give you a value of y. You ve been doing this now
for many years. Now we re going to add a hugely powerful tool to our mathematical arsenal. We re
going to allow our equations to include information about gradients of the function...let s see what this
means...
We re going to take everything that you learnt about integration and turn it into a way to model and
understand the world around us. This is a very powerful statement and indeed differential equations
are without a doubt the most powerful mathematical tool we have to understand the behaviour of
everything from fundamental particles to populations, economies, weather, flow of wealth, heat,
fluids, the motion of planets, the life of stars, the flight of an aircraft, the trajectory of a meteor, the
way a pendulum swings, the way a ponytail swings (see paper on this here), the way fish move, the
way algae grow, the way a neuron fires, the way a fire spreads...and so much more.
So what is a differential equation? It is an equation which contains one or more derivatives of a
function.
Let s look at a very simple example, of population growth. We might want to

Hexaaqua Copper Lab Report
Experimental Objectives:
Copper belongs to group 11 and is also known to be the least reactive of the first row metals. It is the
only d block metal in the first row that has a stable 1+ oxidation state however in comparison to its +2
state, the former is seen as unstable. Cu(0) is rarely stable (2) and hence this is why it is not abundant
in nature, and instead is generally extracted from ores via leaching or roasting methods. It is the +2
oxidation state that seems to dominate the majority of aqueous copper chemistry with the
characteristic blue colour of most copper solutions being an indicator for the presence of the hexaaqua
copper (II) ion (1).The aim of this experiment was to perform reactions to demonstrate the reactivity

Excess nitric acid was still present in the solution and reacted with the strong base of NaOH in order
for the solution to be neutralised. The excess NaOH allowed a double displacement or metathesis
reaction to occur. This was where the copper (II) ions react with the OH ions to produce an absolute
blue precipitate of copper hydroxide which was insoluble. Sodium nitrate however is soluble in water
and thus stayed dissolved in the solution (4). The insoluble blue precipitate observed in the reaction is
supported by this explanation. The fact that the blue litmus paper did not turn red upon addition of the
reaction mixture showed that acid was no longer present within the solution and hence the reaction

The DSM-5 Lists Ten Personality Disorders
Personality Disorders
The DSM 5 lists ten personality disorders and puts them into three groups. There are many
misunderstandings about these psychological disorders. Here I will seek to clear up some of the
misinformation surrounding these psychological disorders.
The first group contains three disorders, Paranoid personality disorder, Schizoid personality disorder,
and schizotypal disorder. A Paranoid person is characterized by distrust of other people. A Paranoid
person is not only suspicious of others but will be easily discouraged in any interaction with other
people but will still feel a strong sense of personal right. Cluster A comprises paranoid, schizoid, and
schizotypal personality disorders. The classification is Schizoid personality disorder. Schizoid means
simply a natural tendency to direct ones attention inward and pay little attention to the outside world.
A schizoid person is likely to be an introvert and have little need for social contacts. Since ... Show

The first is antisocial personality disorder. This person is much more likely to be male than female and
is likely to have a criminal record. Antisocial behavior is characterized by a disregard for the feelings
of others. This person moves from one short term relationship to the next. Secondly is borderline
personality disorder. This disorder is more common in women and is often observed after childhood
sexual abuse. People with this disorder may be emotionally unstable, depressed, suicidal, and prone
violent outbursts. The third disorder is the histrionic personality disorder. Those suffering from this
disorder seem to always be playing a role or behaving in an overly dramatic way. This behavior stems
from a lack of self worth and a need to draw attention to themselves. Last in this group is narcissistic
personality disorder in which a person feels an exaggerated sense of self worth or entitlement. This
person feels a need to be liked and admired but

Theme Of Romanticism In The Scarlet Letter
Romanticism is a literary style of the early 18th century that, praised imagination over reason,
emotions over logic, and intuition over science making way for a vast body of literature of great
sensibility and passion (The Romantic Era). Nathaniel Hawthorne strengthens the mood, plot, and
character development in The Scarlet Letter through his use of Romanticism. The Romantic topics he
uses include, but are not limited to, the use of nature as a symbol, use of rebellion, and the use of the
supernatural. Through the Romantic use of nature, Nathaniel Hawthorne multiplies the significance of
the theme in The Scarlet Letter. The symbolic use of nature influences the reader s interpretation of the
scene and it s meaning, contributing to the overall mood. In the beginning of the novelty narrator
describes the hopeless seen of the prison in which Hester Prynne occupies, the wooden jail was
already marked with weather stains and other indications of age, which gave a yet darker aspect to its
beetle browed and gloomy front (Hawthorne 41). Hawthorne s initial description of the scene gives
the reader a sense of hopelessness and bleakness. With his addition of, But on one side of the portal...
was a wild rose bush... which might be imagined to offer their fragrance and fragile beauty to the
prisoner as he went in, and to the condemned criminal as he came forth to his doom, in token that the
deep heart of Nature could pity and be kind to him (Hawthorne 41). The newfound light

Construction Of The Construction Project Essay
1.
Cost: when we are looking at the cost of the construction project we have to look through and have to
consider all the stages of the design and the construction project this is part of the specification. It is
very important to have the cost estimator involved right from the start of the project to ensure that the
project budget reflects the decisions made by the project construction team throughout the integrated
the design process.
2.
Quality standard and legislation: quality is the part of the contractor manager to ensure that products
and service comply with requirements. It is a work method that facilitates the measurement of the
quality characteristics of a unit, compares them with the established standards, the analyses the
differences between the results obtained and the desired results in order to make decisions which will
correct any differences. The legislation is the rules that are set on the construction project. Rules apply
to projects in parts to prevent clients from avoiding the requirements of the regulations by simply
dividing projects up.
3.
Health and safety issues: if you want to make sure everyone is safe on a construction site you have to
sensibly plan the work so the risks involved are managed from start to finish. You have to have the
right people for the job to make sure everyone is safe. Have the right information about the risks and
how they are being managed and lastly consult and engage with workers about the risks and how they

(Hopper 2007) This was life for Stephan and Elizabeth before they traveled to Canada and following
their immigration they flipped the idea of old culture on its head. It is understood that the new
conceptions of immigrants no longer reflects on the permanent rupture, of the uprooted, the
abandonment of old patterns and the painful learning of a new language and culture. Though, Stephan
and Elizabeth did struggle, they became the new kind of the migrating population. Composed of those
whose networks, actions and patterns of life incorporate both their host and home societies. Their lives
cut across national boundaries and bring two societies into a single social field. It is known that the
new conceptualization is needed in order to understand the experience and consciousness of this new
migrant population. This conceptualization is transnationalism, building a social field that links their
old country of origin and their new county of settlement. (Schiller, Basch Blanc 1992) These
transnational diaspora communities develop for multiple reasons including, family, economy, and
religion; for my family it is specifically how Stephan and Ella are defined.

upon which is soliloquize, a shape upon which to string his thoughts about death, love, art,

lines 4 and 8, by the repetition of When I at the start of the first and second quatrain, and by the
repeated phrase And when I at the start of the third quatrain.( Bruce King ) Critic Bruce King says the

Chief Justice Earl Warren used the Due Process Model in order to make his decisions on these very

means the only individuals with this thought, there has been chatter from others that is not in the
robotic world (2015). Therefore, humans trust the idea of having robots taking care of the elderly
rather than people. The reasons is that humans are thought to be cruel where the overseer can steal or

contributed with technology, believing a robot can talk and care a for a person. Additionally, it
demonstrates a discrimination against mankind, due to not trusting the ability of a human being.
Furthermore, this creates the lack of living life and facing reality. As a result, artificial intelligence has

Richard III Soliloquy Analysis
Ellie Malchione ENGL 201 TA: Craig Eklund 19 October 2014 TITLE TK INTRODUCTION [300]
Thesis: PART I [300+400] Both plays begin with meta theatrical aspects that make the audience
acutely aware that it is watching a performance. In Richard III, these theatrical aspects come across in
the opening soliloquy by King Richard. In this soliloquy, Richard functions like a Chorus by neatly
framing the action to come. He sets the scene of the play by describing that the civil war has ended
and that peace has been restored under King Edward IV. But he also sets the tone and hints at what is
to come: Plots have I laid, inductions dangerous, By drunken prophecies, libels, and dreams, To set
my brother Clarence and the king In deadly hate the one against the other. (1.1.32 35) Much like a

This direct address effectively reminds the audience of its relationship with the players on the stage:
they are not anonymous observers of an unfolding history but rather TK. As the Chorus continues its
preemptive apology, it degrades the performance to come by calling the actors flat unraised spirits and
the stage an unworthy scaffold. These degradations, furthermore, are part of a periodic sentence that
ends by calling the subject of the play so great an object. By delaying the object of the sentence in this
way, the Chorus heightens the grandeur of it, further emphasizing the difference/inferiority TK. The
apology serves to remind the audience of nature: performance is an attempt to replay history but one
that inevitably falls very short ... Having acknowledged the performance s shortcomings, the Chorus
then emphasizes the fact that the play is a performance that requires the audience s mental cooperation
in order to succeed. The Chorus calls upon the audience

Erasmus Praise Of Folly Essay
Humor and Criticism in Erasmuss Praise of Folly Humor and Criticism in Praise of Folly
Erasmus s Praise of Folly is a humor filled satire of pretty much everything. It is filled with wit and
sarcasm which make light of serious problems and blow insignificant issues out of proportion all the
while bringing a smile to the reader s face. It is not stinging humor at the expense of others (unless, of
course, the shoe fits), rather it is directed towards everyone. Erasmus even includes himself in the
joke, practically parodying himself in the first section (xvi). In Praise of Folly, Erasmus uses this
humor to criticize without the harsh judgment of seriousness. His humor parallels the import of his
subject. When Folly discusses the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is why Folly asks her audience to listen not with the ears you use for preachers of sermons, but
the ears you usually prick up for mountebanks, clowns, and fools (10). Humor in this situation lowers
the defenses of one who might otherwise take offense to Erasmus s criticism. He chose Folly to carry
his message because truth has a genuine power to please if it manages not to give offence, but this is
something the gods have granted only to fools (57). He does not single out specific individuals or limit
himself to specific groups of people; he includes almost everybody. Only the fools who personify the
lightheartedness and happiness that are the essence of Erasmus s comedy escape this criticism.
Erasmus even includes himself as a subject of this whimsical criticism showing that it is meant to be
constructive not harshly judgmental as it was taken by his many critics. His criticisms of wise men,
Seneca, women, and pedantry all apply to himself and he jokes about them all (xvi). He knows that, in
her first and most humorous voice, Folly is criticizing aspects of life that are of small significance in
comparison to her later targets, and Erasmus takes no shame in admitting his participation in such
minor foolishness. With Folly s first voice, Erasmus points out the insignificant foolishness that plays
into every person s life, including his own, with

My favorite quote from the movie is when Rocky Balboa says, The world ain t all sunshine and
rainbows. It s a very mean and nasty place and I don t care how tough you are it will beat you to your
knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. Even though it is not a feel good quote, it helped
me to take action in an intense problem that I faced when I was in sixth grade. In 2009, I started my
first year of middle school. I was excited for opportunity of a fresh start. In elementary school, I really
did not face any problems with my classmates, and that gave me a superficial view that the world was
actually all sunshine; however, in sixth grade, my classmates started to judge others because of their
racial background. Because my parents are from Venezuela, I have very tan skin with super dark hair,
and this made me be viewed as someone who could be easily bullied for the way I stood out. ... Show

Death Comes For The Archbishop Study Guide
Death Comes for the Archbishop, by Willa Cather is about a man named John Latour, who leaves
France and is headed for North America but ends up being sent to New Mexico after it was added to
the United States. He spends the rest of middle to old age doing work as a bishop and then archbishop.
In turn, he builds a cathedral, and spreads the word of Catholicism to the people. Latour eventually
does die but only after he changes thousands of lives, travels a thousand miles of desert land, changes
New Mexican architecture and meets some interesting characters. A priest named Father Latour hears
from the Vatican that he has to take over a Catholic diocese in New Mexico. He brings along his
friend, Father Vaillant to help him. From the second they arrive in New Mexico, they know it will be
very hard for them to gain control over their diocese. To start, they have to cover a large area with ...

Then, they have to take power away from Mexican priests who could care less that New Mexico is
part of the United States. Finally, they find it nearly impossible to convince the Native Americans that
Catholicism is the right way to go, especially since these Native Americans have their own beliefs.
Over time, Latour and Vaillant manage to do some decent work. Regardless of that, they struggle with
the knowledge that they ll probably spend the rest of their lives trying to spread Catholicism to a
foreign land that doesn t want it. As he ages through the years, Latour dreams about leaving a legacy
so that the people will remember his work after he dies. He decides to build a Cathedral in the town of
Santa Fe. It takes a long of time, but it is eventually built. Father Vaillant eventually dies after moving

Understanding Social Influence On Online Choice
Purpose of the Study
To Switch or Not to Switch: Understanding Social Influence in Online Choice is a study that was
focused on the role of social influence in online recommender systems. Haiyi Zhu and Bernardo A.
Huberman, the authors of the study, were interested in studying how often peoples choices are affected
by other individuals endorsements. The hypothesis of the study is that individuals are more likely to
reverse their opinions when the reversion causes less self inconsistency (the confirmation pressure is
weaker) or the opposing social opinions are stronger (the conformity pressure is stronger) .
Methodology
The researchers conducted various online experiments. The participants in the study went to the Rankr
website to select their preference of one image out of two images displayed. They first did this with no
knowledge of what people before them picked. The second time the participants had indications of
what others had chosen. The researchers were trying to determine whether seeing other peoples
preferences affected the participants choices. This setup allowed for social influence to be measured
based on if people changed their selections between the two instances. The researchers wanted to see
if the participants changed their mind after seeing what others preferred.
In addition, the researchers wanted to manipulate the pressure of social opinions by changing the time
between the two selection periods. The first time participants selected their

Emirates Airline: Connecting the Unconnected
Introduction
Late afternoon was fading to dusk as Tim Clark, President of Emirates Airline, gazed out at the large
crowds mingling outside at the 2013 Dubai Airshow. Front and center at the event was the official
program launch of the Boeing 777X, a massive new hit thanks to Emirates record order of 150 new
planes. Valued at $76 billion at list prices, this was the largest airplane deal ever inked. Letting his
thoughts drift, he noted, he imagined with pride these planes joining the collection of widebodied
Emirates planes assembled on the tarmac of Dubai International Airport, ready to ferry passengers
from Europe, Asia, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the sunset reflected its dying rays on the aircraft on display, he pushed these thoughts to the back
of his mind and returned to the event at hand.
Aviation in the Middle East
The 1980s aviation market in the Middle East was dominated by Gulf Air, a regional carrier backed by
the states of Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, and the emirate of Abu Dhabi. While several European carriers
serviced the region, the overall market was small and Gulf Air maintained a high market share. The
majority of its flights emanated from its four hub cities to points in the Middle East, South
Asia, and Europe, primarily on a point to point network.
As a non core city for Gulf Air, Dubai experienced reductions in air service in 1985 that compelled
Dubai s leaders to launch its own airline. Local airline expertise was minimal, so the royal family
commissioned a small team of expatriate airline veterans, helmed by Sir Maurice Flanagan, to charter
the service they named Emirates. Divisional Senior Vice President (SVP) of Corporate
Communications, Marketing Brand Boutros Boutros remarked, Locals or expats, management all had
the same outlook and shared mentality, which ultimately helped build a successful and cohesive
executive team. 6 Armed with only two planes and $10 million in seed capital provided by the
Government of Dubai, the airline initially developed a regional focus to connect underserved markets.

Cult Classic Essay
What makes a film a cult classic? What makes a bunch of films belong to the same cult classic? I
found myself asking the same question a couple of days ago, only to to get bombarded by my own
memory of three distinct movies, which just happened to have the same composer: Requiem For A
Dream, Moon and The Fountain. Coincidence? I think not.
These three films are as psychologically triggering as they re visually stunning. But the most
important aspect here is the accompanied music. The three main scores which were written by the
same person for three different movies that just happen to end up being huge cult classics.
First, let s talk about Requiem For a Dream: The whole story is about how addiction is more than just
self medicating. Addiction, as a concept in the movie (and in reality) can be linked to virtually any
substance or activity human beings consume, the movie shows that in the most beautifully ... Show

As a movie, it is really hard to come to good terms with it, as one critic said Its supporters admire the
film s beauty and daring; its detractors find it overblown and hokey . The film is, more or less, an
audiovisual version of Möbius strip, or if I may say, the poorer but still rich prequel of Cloud Atlas.
Whatever one might think about it, the score itself is Clint Mansell s best work, it moves right along
the film across time and space to be a multi layered piece of astonishing creativity. The Last Man is
the main score, with its string exclusive passive theme, the piece ascends us as the main character
ascends through the fabric of reality. Death is The Road to Awe, on the other hand, is not as gloomy as
one might guess from its title. It s been used in the crucial moment of when the character discoverers
his inability to do anything about...well, anything! Somehow, the piece makes that scene a bit more
emotionally tolerable as it gives it the integrity of being not sad, but sadly

Business Intelligence Tools
We live in a day and age where Business Intelligence (BI) tools are becoming a standard for
businesses. In the past, decision makers gathered data from thick paper reports, long presentations,
and other inefficient tools. However, with rapid advancements in technology, especially in the field of
Information Systems, decision makers need more sophisticated and efficient tools to make sense of
their businesses. Analytical tools are very useful because they allow decision makers to make
decisions at every level of business. We are getting to the point where these tools are critical for a firm
s advancement and competition. One cannot discuss dashboards without first mentioning the
magnitude of today s data. The data is so complex and enormous that it takes so much effort to clean it
up before doing anything with it. Data must be scrubbed, checked for redundancy, inconsistency,
irrelevance, and finally consolidated. These processes are not a joke; each of them take a significant
amount of effort and time. Many BI tools have automated some of these processes. The next step is
taking the consolidated data and inputting it into a system to create some sort of meaning. This is quite
an obstacle because even if the data can be analyzed and trends identified, it is difficult to convey
trends in a meaningful manner ( Oracle International Corporation ). Research shows that humans
retain more information when it is provided in a graphical format than when the information is

Battle Of Kursk Analysis
THE BATTLE OF KURSK
The Battle of Kursk took place in July 4th June 20th of 1943 on the Eastern Front. This was Germany
s second big loss after their defeat at the Battle of Stalingrad. This battle was the biggest tank battle of
WW2. This battle was the climax of Operation Citadel; a campaign launched in the East of Russia.
The goal of Operation Citadel, and therefore the goal of the Battle of Kursk, was to separate a large,
important piece of land from the Eastern Front creating a bulge. If the plan succeeded then the
Germans would destroy more than five Russian Soviet armies which would have been trapped in the
city. (History Net: Where History Comes Alive World US History Online, 2006) This battle created

Luohan Earthenware Analysis
The Luohan earthenware piece in the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art is a beautiful representation of
12th century Chinese art that borrows techniques and style from the late 7th century Tang Dynasty.

The Eye And Laser Eye Surgery Essay
A Functioning Eye (Emmetropia)
The eye is the organ of sight. It is used in almost everything we do, from playing sport to reading. A
normal and well functioning eye can focus objects and images, both near and far, perceive depth and
adapt to changes in light.
The perception of depth is due to having two separate eyes creating two separate images, while the
ability to adapt to light change is attributed to the iris and the dilator muscles. However these two
aspects of the eye are not involved in laser eye surgery and will not be discussed in reference. The
focusing of objects and images is very much part of laser eye surgery. In order for a clear visual image
to be formed the image must come to a point on the retina. Light rays do not ... Show more content on

Refractive surgery is a term for several procedures designed to treat these vision abnormalities.
Eye Defects
Myopia is the refractive condition where the farthest point of focus is located at a point near to the
observer, and not at infinity. When one is nearsighted, distance vision is blurred at all times while near
vision is often excellent within a certain range. There are a number of explanations for this optical
condition. The eyeball may be too long, causing the image to be focused short of the retina at the back
of the eye. Or, the focusing lenses of the eye are too strong.
The primary focusing lens is the cornea, the clear window at the very front of your eye. The internal
lens, called the crystalline lens, is adjustable and alters your focus from distance to near. Sometimes,
one of these two lenses may have a radius of curvature that is too steep. In myopia, it is often the
cornea that is too highly curved. It is this curvature which is altered in laser eye surgery. Shortening
the eyeball has been tried, but it has not been without the potential of serious and permanent damage.
Often in situations where the crystalline lens is forced into an excessive plus power curvature, myopia
can result. This may occur from near vision stress, a

Social media is one of the key tools of communication and socialization. It allows teens and children
to stay connected with friends and family and serves as a platform to share ideas (O Keeffe 801).
Social media profiles can also serve as a container that fosters one s individual identity and unique
social skills (O Keeffe 801). There are also some social media platforms used in educational
institutions. For example, some middle and high school teachers use Edmodo an online website
designed to resemble a social media profile as a teaching tool. These sites have the benefit of
reinforcing skills in English, written expression, and creativity (O Keeffe 801). Popular social media
platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter allow students to meet and collaborate ideas for
school assignments (O Keeffe 801). Even though too much social media exposure can have a negative
effect on a child s growing identity, there are a few apps that provide options that allow children to
approach identity formation more thoughtfully (Parry). While extensive use of social media can isolate
children and adolescents from their societies, Parry states that there are online communities that
provide children and teens with self disclosure and a feeling of belonging. Social media also serves as

Apostle s Closing Admonitions
The Apostle s Closing Admonitions and Benediction (16:10 24)
E. Harrison (p. 275) summarizes the message of the Epistle in these words: The greatest single overall
emphasis seems to be on the unity of the local church as the body of Christ, which is brought out not
only in connection with the discussion of the groups (i.e.; the factions within the church), but also in
relation to the Lord s Supper and spiritual gifts. A corollary is the sanctity of the church as members of
Christ, both corporately and individually, (note, especially, such passages as 1 Cor. 3:16 17 and 6:15

forth the supremacy of love as the most excellent way, which the Christian is called to follow (1 Cor.

The Mystery Surrounding the Missing Letters

Sometime after his initial visit to Corinth, probably while he was ministering in Ephesus, Paul wrote a
letter to the church, a letter to which he alludes in 1 Cor. 5:9, I wrote to you in my epistle not to have

previous letter may be inferred from 1 Cor. 5:9 13.
The apostle had evidently issued a warning to the Corinthians to maintain a clear separation from
those persons who continued to exhibit the pagan lifestyle that was characteristic of Corinth. (As we

Stereotypes In Remember The Titans
Remember the Titans is a fantastic representation of the true story of how Coach Boone s and Coach

racism and stereotypes comparatively to Hairspray. Lastly it is more enjoyable to watch as a movie.
Remember the Titans, it expresses the feeling in the movie as I was by their side cheering when they
had won the championship or depressed when we found out that bertier is going to be paralyzed waist

everyone s mentality and how they feel about it. And the main protagonist Coach Boone is also

Reverend Hale Beliefs
The Changing Of Moral Beliefs
Arthur Miller has his own ideas of tragic hero and he says that a tragic hero is someone who stands up
to there own person dignity and has a flaw (Miller 1). Truth is when someone does not lie and only
says what is true. In reality truth can cause problems with people in a society. Identity is who someone
is there qualities and beliefs. In the real world many people change who they are for others. The
important thing is to only change for ourselves and not for others. Our identity is who we are and we
have the power to change our own beliefs for ourselves only. The character Reverend Hale is

Reverend Hale was a priest so he was all about honesty and did not want anyone to lie. Hale once
said, cleave to no faith when faith brings blood (Miller 132). In this quote Reverend Hale warns
Elizabeth and tells her that she should not lie because that is bad and it could lead to death. This
connects to Reverend Hale as a tragic hero because he changed his beliefs as he left the court and left
Salem. Then Reverend Hale returned to Salem because he wanted to help save the rest of the people of
Salem since he was not there to directly help John Proctor. Hale went from being someone all about
honesty to basically a liar. The only way to help save the people of Salem would be to tell them to lie.
Reverend Hale was only able to do this because he left the court. If he was still part of the court he
would have to follow what they do and he would not have a voice or a say. When it came to John
Proctor s trial, he decided to tell the truth but that unfortunately did not work out for him. This is
because they sent Elizabeth into the court and asked he the same question they asked John Proctor,
however, Elizabeth lied for her husband. Because he did not say the same thing as John Proctor he
would most likely be killed for this. When this was happening, Reverend Hale was still part of the
court so he did not have say about what would happen to John Proctor. This is one of the reasons why

all that we do. This seminar is for leaders, department heads, intercessors and all those who are part of
the congregation or ministry. Our goal is to allow the Holy Spirit to take each individual and the entire
ministry to the next exciting level in prayer as we develop an understanding of a culture of prayer.

I would be glad to meet with main leaders and prayer leaders to discuss all facets of the prayer
ministry. For many years I ve functioned in the role of pastoral oversight for prayer ministry in local
church and could help bring some insight on prayer ministry for existing organizations, churches and
especially for new church plants. The seminar and the consulting are both on an honorarium or
offering basis.
Burning Hearts School of Intercession
In 2009 we began the Burning Hearts School of Intercession as a two day training. Many have
assumed that this training has been just for Intercessors, but it is actually designed to bring the all
Christ followers into an understanding what intercessory prayer is and how we really cannot get by
without connecting with God in prayer.
Here s an overview of the training weekend:
Session 1 The Importance of Intercession
Session 2 Effective Personal Intercession

The Poem Sympathy By Paul Lawrence Dunbar
During the hard times as the Jim Crow laws were revealed there has been numerous discussion about
these cruel rules, and as the laws approve segregation, people have found that the Jim Crow laws have
more of an impact in their lives than just enforcement of segregation.
In the poem, Sympathy by Paul Lawrence Dunbar, and the response to the literature, Caged Bird by
Maya Angelou are structured around the symbol of a caged bird. As the caged bird is the symbol of
the African American race during that time, both have similar and different meanings in their
responses. In the two poems both show the caged bird of the black race. But a bird that stalks/down
his narrow cage/can seldom see through/ his bars of rage... (M.A 8 11). Although the message is very
subtle, it means that blacks are the caged bird ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But a caged bird stands on a grave of dreams... His wings are clipped and his feet are tied/so he opens
his throat to sing... (M.A 26 29). This quote describes the birds emotions as it loses its dreams, it doesn
t lose its hope so it repeatedly sings hoping it will reach a bird for assistance. It also portrays a very
positive them as the reader figures out that its perseverance pays off. ...and his tune is heard/on the
distant hill... (M.A 19 20). This is validating the fact that the bird s prayers have successfully been
retrieved and help is nearer than it has been thought.
Sympathy and Caged bird are both about the years from 1880 s to the 1960 s from which blacks were
treated unequally causing many to feel base, and obligated to reveal their feelings. As both poems
have their pros and cons, with amazingly powerful meanings of which they felt during the Jim Crow
laws, Maya Angelou s Caged Bird comes out victorious because of its legitimate and overall
meritoriously positive meaning as it teaches one to persevere and never give up on a challenge as you
will soon overcome the

Fedex Case Study Essay
1. From the point of view of the industry incumbents, is the express mail industry attractive? How has
Airborne survived, and recently prospered, in its industry? Is its success attributable to its capabilities,
its position, or industry attractiveness?
The express mail industry can easily be considered an inherently tough industry to operate within
given the myriad of factors that come into play, such as unions, government regulations, cost of
technological advancement, and international borders to name a few. Despite this, the industry could
be seen as offering opportunities, which could be seized by attracting customers based on the quality
of the service being offered. Consequently, this also encouraged mimicking between ... Show more

Conversely, they could be shipped to hubs (which passengers did not do like today) where they would
be sorted during the night and then sent onwards to their final destination from there thus offering
overnight services.
Fred also benefitted from being a first mover in the express mail industry. UPS that had been offering
delivery services since the beginning of the 20th century. However, they had only relied on their
ground network and did not establish their own fleet of aircraft until the early 80 s, after RPS had
shook their existence and after seeing how fast Fedex s business was growing. Being a first mover
enabled Fred to start small and grow the business in line with demand. Fedex did not have to catch up
to an industry incumbent since he was the one inventing the express mail airfreight business. If not, it
would have called for a much greater investment and made it more difficult for him to penetrate an
existing market. UPS on the other hand was able to enter the market since they were an established
company with means to invest heavily in this new service. It is also likely that by being an early
entrant, it also made it somewhat easier for UPS to start their own fleet than it would be for anybody
to make that same attempt today, not omitting the fact that they had great experience in delivery
services at that point as well.

Salmonella Typhimurium Report
The Gram negative bacterium for Unknown 13B was Salmonella typhimurium. Unknown 13B had
similar reactivity patterns to S. typhimurium. A comparison of Unknown 13B and S. typhimurium can
be compared in Table 2. The Catalase test and the Methyl Red test for Unknown 13B and S.
typhimurium both obtained positive results (Table 2). Negative results were acquired through the
Indole test for Unknown 13B and S. typhimurium (Table 2). For the Lactose Ferment and the Sucrose
Ferment test, negative reactions occurred and no gas bubble was produced in the Unknown 13B and in
S. typhimurium (Table 2). The Glucose Ferment test produced positive results in both Unknown 13B
and in S. typhimurium and a gas bubble was present (Table 2). For the Nitrate Reduction ... Show

Once the results were obtained by the different biochemical tests, the genus and species of the
organism was identified as Salmonella typhimurium. These tests were chosen because these tests are
frequently used to determine Gram negative bacteria. During the Citrate test, S. typhimurium
produced a positive result, which indicated sodium carbonate was present (Pearson s 2011). A positive
result was obtained during the Methyl Red test, which indicated that the organism was capable of
fermenting glucose and contained a higher hydrogen ion concentration (Pearson s 2011). S.
typhimurium produced negative results during the Indole test, which showed that tryptophan was
unable to be hydrolyzed (Pearson s 2011). The Lactose and Sucrose Ferment tests both produced
negative results and no production of gas, indicating that there was no change in the pH and
fermentation did not occur (Pearson s 2011). Positive results and a gas bubble was present in the
Glucose Ferment test, which concluded that S. typhimurium caused an acidic change in the pH and
fermentation occurred (Pearson s 2011). S. typhimurium produced positive results for the Nitrate
Reduction test, indicating that nitrates were not reduced to nitrates by the bacterium (Pearson s 2011).
Negative results were obtained through the Urea test, which showed that S. typhimurium was unable
to produce urease (Pearson s 2011). The

Disadvantages Of The Civil War
Wars are not fought in a vacuum, and the Civil War is no exception. The Confederacy which lacked
the manpower, industry, and infrastructure of their Northern counterpart lost the war on the battlefield.
However, a failure to examine the social and cultural landscape before the bombardment of Fort
Sumter and after Appomattox does a great disservice to the Civil War era.
I believe that examining the war from 1846 1876 a 30 year period encapsulating the Wilmot Proviso,
the Compromise of 1850, the Civil War itself and Reconstruction places the war within the proper
context. Military tactics should be discussed. One can t talk about a war and never mention a battle.
But I find myself drawn towards cultural history or war studies. I define ... Show more content on

As mentioned before, I keep this window from 1846 1876. Do I find this to be a problem? No, so long
as the research is done well. To understand the war, I believe an individual must be familiar with the
events that followed. White Southerners engaging in racial targeting and violence were inspired by
their defeat in the Civil War in a manner similar to Germans as National Socialism rose following
World War I. It is not a perfect metaphor, but is the best one that comes to mind.. As selfish as this
may sound, I have to enjoy the work I m doing. The thought of Pickett s Charge at Gettysburg does
not get my blood flowing. I don t care to know about formation patterns and obscure facts about
Generals. I m interested in issue of race for several reasons. I grew up in a town with very visible race
problems. I was one of the only white kids in my school. I played football and made a lot of friends. I
also realized there were a lot of problems with the public education system, and I wonder how our
government could fail the people it needed to help the most. Sure, that sounds patronizing, but that s
how my curiosity was peaked. I wanted to understand why a disproportionate amount of African
Americans were poor. I d always enjoyed history. I started chasing rabbit trails and ended up where I
am now. I have to enjoy the material I m covering in order

The Lifelong Goal Of Saint Thomas Aquinas
Ryan Comolli
Study Of St. Thomas Aquinas
Research Paper
11/23/2014
The lifelong goal of Saint Thomas Aquinas was to clearly elaborate the independence of philosophy
and theology, but at the same time show their symbiotic relationship with each other. Throughout his
life Aquinas was known as a theologian but many of his works carry strong philosophical undertones
as well. The beauty of theology is it can enlighten us through its leap of faith. Philosophy was required
to precede theology. The truths laid down from philosophy are concrete and coherent. These
philosophical truths are the shoes in which theology can walk. Without philosophy there is no
theology. Examples of this can be seen everywhere. Philosophical concepts like ... Show more content

Their importance is paramount because these truths that we believe can in turn be used to create
something greater. As St. Thomas progresses through his works he builds on philosophical truths in
order to allow us to reach a greater higher knowledge. In his book the Summa Theologica Thomas
says, We must bear in mind that there are two kinds of sciences. There are some which proceed from a
principle known by the natural light of intelligence, such as arithmetic and geometry and the like.
Others proceed from principles known by the light of a higher form of knowledge: Thus the science of
perspective proceeds from principles established by geometry, and music from principles established
by arithmetic. So it is that sacred doctrine is a science because it proceeds from principles established
by the light of a higher form of knowledge, namely that of God and the blessed (I, q. 1, a. 2). Aquinas
is establishing the basis for all of theology to be built upon. As he describes to us, there is always an
action and reaction when it comes to human understanding. In order for someone to believe, there
needs to be a definitive and concrete basis for which this knowledge is built. In the case of theology,
we require the basics set forth by philosophy to establish the existence of God. This is and always will
be the quintessential step in accepting the divine wisdom which god reveals to us. Belief in the

  • 2. Agamemnon By Euripides Essay Euripides was classic Athens. He is one of whose plays have long survived. Importantly, he was well identified with theatrical innovation, which has profoundly influenced drama up to the modern times, most especially in the representation of traditional, mythical heroes as the ordinary people in an extraordinary circumstance. Apparently, was so unique among many writers of ancient Athens because of his abundant sympathy that he demonstrated towards the victims of society, most especially being women. Agamemnon, Orestes and Electra were the main characters in the plays. The play revolves around the leader of Greek forces, Agamemnon, and his deadly decision to sacrifice his first daughter Iphigenia, to preserve his honor by doing battle against ... It was a horrible experience for Thyestes after discovering what was prepared for his meal. He then went away from Argos with only his infant child called Aegisthus after cursing both Orestes and his descendants. After the death of Orestes, the throne was left under Agamemnon his son, who later married a daughter of Sparta s king. They bore three children, of which one inherited his father s throne upon death. The remaining son of Orestes married Helen, who became king of Sparta upon her father s death. Another seduction in the descendants of Orestes occurs. Later after the wedding, Paris who was the son of Troy s king, seduced Helen then took her away. A great force was organized to restore Helen to her husband. However, due to adverse winds, they were unable to sail towards Troy. They appeased goddess Artemis to calm the winds by sacrificing a young girl who arrived at the camp. They sailed to Troas but there was a lot of justification of the murder of their mother by Orestes who was later afflicted with madness then goes to become a spirit to hunt and punish murderers ... If your answer was they were all part of the exclusive listening party for Andy Mineo s latest album, you were correct! The promotion for the listening party was advertised via Andy s social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook. The fortunate ones who responded and and confirmed their attendance were treated to a fun filled day by Reach Records. As the party bus from Brooklyn arrived at 50/50 Skate Park in Staten Island, we watched a few professional skateboarders doing their best tricks. The next portion of the day involved huge blow up bean bags of Andy Mineo from the new album cover, protective glasses, and Nerf guns. Andy appeared out of some ... The beat on Love is sure to have all who listen nodding their head with serious fervor. We all had the proverbial stank face as we listened to the track blast through the bus sound system. Andy Mineo has taken his lyricism up a notch on Uncomfortable, providing very thought provoking scenarios alongside witty bars and one liners. Rat Race which features acclaimed singer/songwriter Jon Bellion, causes the listener to truly evaluate the way this world runs. Andy offers a very candid and realistic look at life, proclaiming in the hook he is okay with being in last place. The true worth of life is not wrapped up in all that one acquires in this life. A sobering message that is very anti present day culture. Andy has been known to be a very transparent artist, detailing his life through his music. The next single from Uncomfortable will be Hear My Heart , a song he wrote for his sister Grace. The song is a touching track that sheds light on his family dynamic and some of the struggles his sister went through. In Tobias Wolff s story, Hunters in the Snow, main character, Tub is emotionally abused throughout the story. Tub s two friends, Frank and Kenny haggle him about his personal appearance and sensitivity as he struggles throughout the story. He never confronts Kenny and Frank when they say things like, You haven t seen your ball in ten years, he just brushes those type of comments off, but inside those snide comments kill him (Arp 88). He brushes those comments off so it does not lead to conflict. Due to Tub being emotional, he can also be weak. Him being weak causes him to complain at times during the story, he appears to be tender and easily harmed. Tub complains throughout the story saying, I waited an hour and I m cold (Arp 86 and 87). Kenny and Frank never show compassion towards him, making Tub seek even more attention and compassion from them. • 5. Function Of A Value Of X Essay Up to now if I gave you an equation, and asked you to solve it for x you would be, in general, looking for a value of x which solved the equation. Given: x^2+3x+2=0 You can solve this equation to find two values of x. I could also give you an equation which linked x and y explicitly, and you could find a relationship between the two which, given a value of x would give you a value of y. You ve been doing this now for many years. Now we re going to add a hugely powerful tool to our mathematical arsenal. We re going to allow our equations to include information about gradients of the function...let s see what this means... We re going to take everything that you learnt about integration and turn it into a way to model and understand the world around us. This is a very powerful statement and indeed differential equations are without a doubt the most powerful mathematical tool we have to understand the behaviour of everything from fundamental particles to populations, economies, weather, flow of wealth, heat, fluids, the motion of planets, the life of stars, the flight of an aircraft, the trajectory of a meteor, the way a pendulum swings, the way a ponytail swings (see paper on this here), the way fish move, the way algae grow, the way a neuron fires, the way a fire spreads...and so much more. So what is a differential equation? It is an equation which contains one or more derivatives of a function. Let s look at a very simple example, of population growth. We might want to ... It is the only d block metal in the first row that has a stable 1+ oxidation state however in comparison to its +2 state, the former is seen as unstable. Cu(0) is rarely stable (2) and hence this is why it is not abundant in nature, and instead is generally extracted from ores via leaching or roasting methods. It is the +2 oxidation state that seems to dominate the majority of aqueous copper chemistry with the characteristic blue colour of most copper solutions being an indicator for the presence of the hexaaqua copper (II) ion (1).The aim of this experiment was to perform reactions to demonstrate the reactivity of copper ... Sodium nitrate however is soluble in water and thus stayed dissolved in the solution (4). The insoluble blue precipitate observed in the reaction is supported by this explanation. • 8. Theme Of Romanticism In The Scarlet Letter Romanticism is a literary style of the early 18th century that, praised imagination over reason, emotions over logic, and intuition over science making way for a vast body of literature of great sensibility and passion (The Romantic Era). Nathaniel Hawthorne strengthens the mood, plot, and character development in The Scarlet Letter through his use of Romanticism. The Romantic topics he uses include, but are not limited to, the use of nature as a symbol, use of rebellion, and the use of the supernatural. Through the Romantic use of nature, Nathaniel Hawthorne multiplies the significance of the theme in The Scarlet Letter. The symbolic use of nature influences the reader s interpretation of the scene and it s meaning, contributing to the overall mood. In the beginning of the novelty narrator describes the hopeless seen of the prison in which Hester Prynne occupies, the wooden jail was already marked with weather stains and other indications of age, which gave a yet darker aspect to its beetle browed and gloomy front (Hawthorne 41). Hawthorne s initial description of the scene gives the reader a sense of hopelessness and bleakness. With his addition of, But on one side of the portal... was a wild rose bush... which might be imagined to offer their fragrance and fragile beauty to the prisoner as he went in, and to the condemned criminal as he came forth to his doom, in token that the deep heart of Nature could pity and be kind to him (Hawthorne 41). (Hopper 2007) This was life for Stephan and Elizabeth before they traveled to Canada and following their immigration they flipped the idea of old culture on its head. It is understood that the new conceptions of immigrants no longer reflects on the permanent rupture, of the uprooted, the abandonment of old patterns and the painful learning of a new language and culture. Though, Stephan and Elizabeth did struggle, they became the new kind of the migrating population. Composed of those whose networks, actions and patterns of life incorporate both their host and home societies. Their lives cut across national boundaries and bring two societies into a single social field. It is known that the new conceptualization is needed in order to understand the experience and consciousness of this new migrant population. This conceptualization is transnationalism, building a social field that links their old country of origin and their new county of settlement. Richard III Soliloquy Analysis Ellie Malchione ENGL 201 TA: Craig Eklund 19 October 2014 TITLE TK INTRODUCTION [300] Thesis: PART I [300+400] Both plays begin with meta theatrical aspects that make the audience acutely aware that it is watching a performance. In Richard III, these theatrical aspects come across in the opening soliloquy by King Richard. In this soliloquy, Richard functions like a Chorus by neatly framing the action to come. He sets the scene of the play by describing that the civil war has ended and that peace has been restored under King Edward IV. But he also sets the tone and hints at what is to come: Plots have I laid, inductions dangerous, By drunken prophecies, libels, and dreams, To set my brother Clarence and the king In deadly hate the one against the other. (1.1.32 35) Much like a Chorus prologue, Richard s speech summarizes what the audience ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This direct address effectively reminds the audience of its relationship with the players on the stage: they are not anonymous observers of an unfolding history but rather TK. As the Chorus continues its preemptive apology, it degrades the performance to come by calling the actors flat unraised spirits and the stage an unworthy scaffold. These degradations, furthermore, are part of a periodic sentence that ends by calling the subject of the play so great an object. By delaying the object of the sentence in this way, the Chorus heightens the grandeur of it, further emphasizing the difference/inferiority TK. The apology serves to remind the audience of nature: performance is an attempt to replay history but one that inevitably falls very short ... Having acknowledged the performance s shortcomings, the Chorus then emphasizes the fact that the play is a performance that requires the audience s mental cooperation in order to succeed. • 21. Erasmus Praise Of Folly Essay Humor and Criticism in Erasmuss Praise of Folly Humor and Criticism in Praise of Folly Erasmus s Praise of Folly is a humor filled satire of pretty much everything. It is filled with wit and sarcasm which make light of serious problems and blow insignificant issues out of proportion all the while bringing a smile to the reader s face. It is not stinging humor at the expense of others (unless, of course, the shoe fits), rather it is directed towards everyone. Erasmus even includes himself in the joke, practically parodying himself in the first section (xvi). This is why Folly asks her audience to listen not with the ears you use for preachers of sermons, but the ears you usually prick up for mountebanks, clowns, and fools (10). Humor in this situation lowers the defenses of one who might otherwise take offense to Erasmus s criticism. He chose Folly to carry his message because truth has a genuine power to please if it manages not to give offence, but this is something the gods have granted only to fools (57). He does not single out specific individuals or limit himself to specific groups of people; he includes almost everybody. Only the fools who personify the lightheartedness and happiness that are the essence of Erasmus s comedy escape this criticism. Erasmus even includes himself as a subject of this whimsical criticism showing that it is meant to be constructive not harshly judgmental as it was taken by his many critics. His criticisms of wise men, Seneca, women, and pedantry all apply to himself and he jokes about them all (xvi). He knows that, in her first and most humorous voice, Folly is criticizing aspects of life that are of small significance in comparison to her later targets, and Erasmus takes no shame in admitting his participation in such minor foolishness. Understanding Social Influence On Online Choice Purpose of the Study To Switch or Not to Switch: Understanding Social Influence in Online Choice is a study that was focused on the role of social influence in online recommender systems. Haiyi Zhu and Bernardo A. Huberman, the authors of the study, were interested in studying how often peoples choices are affected by other individuals endorsements. The hypothesis of the study is that individuals are more likely to reverse their opinions when the reversion causes less self inconsistency (the confirmation pressure is weaker) or the opposing social opinions are stronger (the conformity pressure is stronger) . Methodology The researchers conducted various online experiments. The participants in the study went to the Rankr website to select their preference of one image out of two images displayed. They first did this with no knowledge of what people before them picked. The second time the participants had indications of what others had chosen. The researchers were trying to determine whether seeing other peoples preferences affected the participants choices. This setup allowed for social influence to be measured based on if people changed their selections between the two instances. The researchers wanted to see if the participants changed their mind after seeing what others preferred. In addition, the researchers wanted to manipulate the pressure of social opinions by changing the time between the two selection periods. The first time participants selected their ... While several European carriers serviced the region, the overall market was small and Gulf Air maintained a high market share. The majority of its flights emanated from its four hub cities to points in the Middle East, South Asia, and Europe, primarily on a point to point network. As a non core city for Gulf Air, Dubai experienced reductions in air service in 1985 that compelled Dubai s leaders to launch its own airline. Local airline expertise was minimal, so the royal family commissioned a small team of expatriate airline veterans, helmed by Sir Maurice Flanagan, to charter the service they named Emirates. However, with rapid advancements in technology, especially in the field of Information Systems, decision makers need more sophisticated and efficient tools to make sense of their businesses. Analytical tools are very useful because they allow decision makers to make decisions at every level of business. We are getting to the point where these tools are critical for a firm s advancement and competition. One cannot discuss dashboards without first mentioning the magnitude of today s data. The data is so complex and enormous that it takes so much effort to clean it up before doing anything with it. Data must be scrubbed, checked for redundancy, inconsistency, irrelevance, and finally consolidated. These processes are not a joke; each of them take a significant amount of effort and time. Many BI tools have automated some of these processes. The next step is taking the consolidated data and inputting it into a system to create some sort of meaning. A normal and well functioning eye can focus objects and images, both near and far, perceive depth and adapt to changes in light. The perception of depth is due to having two separate eyes creating two separate images, while the ability to adapt to light change is attributed to the iris and the dilator muscles. However these two aspects of the eye are not involved in laser eye surgery and will not be discussed in reference. The focusing of objects and images is very much part of laser eye surgery. Eye Defects Myopia is the refractive condition where the farthest point of focus is located at a point near to the observer, and not at infinity. When one is nearsighted, distance vision is blurred at all times while near vision is often excellent within a certain range. There are a number of explanations for this optical condition. The eyeball may be too long, causing the image to be focused short of the retina at the back of the eye. Or, the focusing lenses of the eye are too strong. The primary focusing lens is the cornea, the clear window at the very front of your eye. The internal lens, called the crystalline lens, is adjustable and alters your focus from distance to near. Sometimes, one of these two lenses may have a radius of curvature that is too steep. In myopia, it is often the cornea that is too highly curved. It is this curvature which is altered in laser eye surgery. Shortening the eyeball has been tried, but it has not been without the potential of serious and permanent damage. A corollary is the sanctity of the church as members of Christ, both corporately and individually, (note, especially, such passages as 1 Cor. 3:16 17 and 6:15 20.) First of all the movie makes me feel as I am sharing my feeling with the characters in the movie. Secondly it focuses strongly and mainly on racism and stereotypes comparatively to Hairspray. Lastly it is more enjoyable to watch as a movie. Reverend Hale Beliefs The Changing Of Moral Beliefs Arthur Miller has his own ideas of tragic hero and he says that a tragic hero is someone who stands up to there own person dignity and has a flaw (Miller 1). Truth is when someone does not lie and only says what is true. In reality truth can cause problems with people in a society. Identity is who someone is there qualities and beliefs. In the real world many people change who they are for others. The important thing is to only change for ourselves and not for others. Our identity is who we are and we have the power to change our own beliefs for ourselves only. Reverend Hale was a priest so he was all about honesty and did not want anyone to lie. Hale once said, cleave to no faith when faith brings blood (Miller 132). In this quote Reverend Hale warns Elizabeth and tells her that she should not lie because that is bad and it could lead to death. This connects to Reverend Hale as a tragic hero because he changed his beliefs as he left the court and left Salem. Then Reverend Hale returned to Salem because he wanted to help save the rest of the people of Salem since he was not there to directly help John Proctor. Hale went from being someone all about honesty to basically a liar. The only way to help save the people of Salem would be to tell them to lie. Reverend Hale was only able to do this because he left the court. If he was still part of the court he would have to follow what they do and he would not have a voice or a say. When it came to John Proctor s trial, he decided to tell the truth but that unfortunately did not work out for him. This is because they sent Elizabeth into the court and asked he the same question they asked John Proctor, however, Elizabeth lied for her husband. Because he did not say the same thing as John Proctor he would most likely be killed for this. When this was happening, Reverend Hale was still part of the court so he did not have say about what would happen to John Proctor. This is one of the reasons why Reverend Hale ... The Lifelong Goal Of Saint Thomas Aquinas Ryan Comolli Study Of St. Thomas Aquinas Research Paper 11/23/2014 The lifelong goal of Saint Thomas Aquinas was to clearly elaborate the independence of philosophy and theology, but at the same time show their symbiotic relationship with each other. Throughout his life Aquinas was known as a theologian but many of his works carry strong philosophical undertones as well. The beauty of theology is it can enlighten us through its leap of faith. Philosophy was required to precede theology. The truths laid down from philosophy are concrete and coherent. These philosophical truths are the shoes in which theology can walk. Their importance is paramount because these truths that we believe can in turn be used to create something greater. As St. Thomas progresses through his works he builds on philosophical truths in order to allow us to reach a greater higher knowledge. In his book the Summa Theologica Thomas says, We must bear in mind that there are two kinds of sciences. There are some which proceed from a principle known by the natural light of intelligence, such as arithmetic and geometry and the like. Others proceed from principles known by the light of a higher form of knowledge: Thus the science of perspective proceeds from principles established by geometry, and music from principles established by arithmetic. So it is that sacred doctrine is a science because it proceeds from principles established by the light of a higher form of knowledge, namely that of God and the blessed (I, q. 1, a. 2). Aquinas is establishing the basis for all of theology to be built upon. As he describes to us, there is always an action and reaction when it comes to human understanding. In order for someone to believe, there needs to be a definitive and concrete basis for which this knowledge is built. In the case of theology, we require the basics set forth by philosophy to establish the existence of God. This is and always will be the quintessential step in accepting the divine wisdom which god reveals to us. Belief in the Catholic Church and God ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
