Film Analysis Of Wes Anderson s The Grand Budapest Hotel
Wes Anderson is one of the greatest illusion makers of all time. He doesn t create movies but entire
worlds with his distinct sensibility and dazzling visual style. The 48 year old Texan is one of the few
filmmakers in modern cinema with the ability to articulate such idiosyncratic visions. Every frame of
The Grand Budapest Hotel is so Anderson one can spend hours dissecting each and every shot. The
film is a colorful and delicious confection to watch that at times you may have the urge to lick the
screen. The film opens to a young lady visiting a courtyard, gazing up at a statue of The Author whilst
holding his memoir entitled, The Grand Budapest Hotel. We start out in 1985 in a grey sky post
Communist town. The Author is shooing away is grandson and recalls the time in the late 60 s when
his younger self (Jude Law) stayed at the title hotel. At the time of his stay, the legendary hotel was
falling into obsolescence. As time goes on he becomes acquainted with its elegant and mysterious
owner, Mr. Moustafa (F. Murray Abraham). Law is curious as to why the immensely rich Moustafa
chooses to accompany alone on his visits and insists on sleeping in a room no bigger than a closet.
Moustafa, acknowledging The Authors own work with great respect decides to invite him to dinner to
satisfy his curiosity. Over the course of the meal, Moustafa reminisces about his first days at the hotel
where he worked as a lobby boy under the direction of Monsieur Gustave H (the impeccable

Malcolm X Dialectical Journal
Select three of the following quotes by Malcolm X and write a five line response (five typed lines of
text) to each selected quote. Your response should be a reaction to the quote, supporting, refuting, or
qualifying Malcolm X s stance. You should use evidence from the book to support your assertion.
There is no better than adversity. Every defeat, every heartbreak, every loss, contains its own seed, its
own lesson on how to improve your performance the next time. Misfortune allows one to learn how to
benifit in the future. The seeds represent a new start after making a mistake for any person. Thus
allowing them room to improve for the next time. I support Malcolm s qoute and believe that he
proved his own words. Malcolm being sentenced to jail made him change his life completely. Once
released, Malcolm decided to devote his life to Allah, which made Malcolm realize that hustling was
his mistake. c. You don t have to be a man to fight for freedom. All you have to be is an intelligent

Often times in the book women were seen as status symbols. They were with men just tobe shown off.
Even Malcolm is a victum of this as his girlfriend sofia became a status symbol. These women in the
book do not fight for any freedom as they should be. Malcolm fought for his right to become a
Muslim and I never once in the book heard of a women doing the same or fighting for anything they
wanted. Of course, readers have to think about time periods where women voices were silenced. Still
today when a woman shares an opionion an man might fight back because they believe they have no

What Is Gandhi s Critique Of Modern Civilization
Highlight and assess Gandhi s critique of modern civilization and relate it to the debate about the
nature and practice of development that surfaced with Gandhi s 1945 exchange with Nehru [in Sudhir
Chandra s essay] and continue into the post independence era is with us today.
Through the successor ... Gandhi was pitted against a whole discourse which the successor and
virtually the whole country considered as the only rational mode of ordering life, be it individual or
collective (Chandra 44).
In every argument at least two people are involved. However, in many significant controversies or,
even more so, in contestations of well accepted norms, the real debate rages not simply between two
rational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While Gandhi never precisely defines modern civilization , such a thing may indeed be impossible as
the discourse already, to some extent, defines us, he does offer an analogy to understand its nature. As
this kind of civilization exists in idealized forms in its literature and theories and realized forms
throughout Europe, America, and their colonies, he considers these its identity. From this, one can
infer its nature as one learns of a tiger. While, in theory, a tiger could change its character, this
question completely misses the point that the very nature of the tiger is at fault (Swaraj 27 28). The
preaching of modern civilization, as rhetoric, plus the real patterns of this kind of living comprise the
object of his criticism. This marks one of his first important differences from the discourse he opposes.
Where Gandhi considers the tiger in terms of its nature and as a pattern of behavior, the technical
rationality of the discourse he is arguing against considers a tiger as a particular collection of
biological specificities that may sometimes act in predictable ways, but is entirely mutable. While this
summary of Gandhi makes him sound more like Plato than is fair, his arguments tend to look for
deeper meanings where possible and permanent truths as opposed to the myopia of the discourse he is
criticizing. Similarly, Gandhi claims that only men with mature thoughts are capable of ruling
themselves (Swaraj 16), whereas modern civilization boasts

The Most Dominant And Influential Empires
The Umayyads created the first true Muslim dynasty passing down power strictly within family
boundaries from generation to generation. During their reign lasting from 661 to 750 AD, they built
the early Islamic community up into one of the most dominant and influential empires in the world.
During this time, the Umayyads would create the basis of how the Islamic Empire would be operated
moving forward. They would soon become a dynasty in question because of their lack of descent from
Muhammad, their arguable passage of power from father to son, and their injustice and ill treatment of
non Arab Muslims. Their desecrating rulers overall had a negative impact on Islam and ultimately led
to their fall.
The Umayyad clan was openly one of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ali then succeeded Uthman as the next caliph. Muawiya wanted the assassins responsible for Uthman
s death to be handed over, but Ali was unable to comply with his demands. This conflict led to the first
Muslim civil war or fitna. Ali defeated Aisha, a supporter of Muawiya who was also the Prophet
Muhammad s widow, and other prominent Muslims at the Battle of the Camel, but then later lost to
Muawiya at the Battle of Siffin in Syria. The civil war ended with no winner, but shortly after Ali was
assassinated by a kharijite in Kufa. Muawiya emerged as the leader after convincing Al Hasan, Ali s
son, to give up his right to the caliphate establishing himself as the first Umayyad caliph. He was
driven to create a strong, effective, and somewhat centralized government. He moved the capital from
Medina to Damascus and gave Christians, in many cases ex Byzantine officials government positions,
which led to some new financial and administrative systems that were unwelcomed by many.
Muawiya was the beginning of a long line of impious rulers who did not give in to what the people of
the province wanted, had his own personal agenda, and really only gave in to the religion of Islam
around the time they assumed a government position.
Muawiya broke the status quo by appointing his son Yazid his successor. This was a serious problem,

Weatheringanderosion
Weathering
There are many affects of weathering. Many factors influence the susceptibility of rocks to chemical
and mechanical weathering. Rainfall, biologic activity, abundance of openings, composition of the
rock, amount of vegetation, temperature, and tectonic settings are important factors in the weathering
process. External forces like wind, water, and ice are constantly causing changes in the surface of
rocks. These activities are cutting some material away while depositing other materials here and there.
This process landscapes the Earth as we see it. Weathering falls into two categories, mechanical
weathering and chemical weathering. Mechanical weathering is where a rock physically breaks down
into pieces but does not change the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Only the dust remains aloft long enough to be moved by the wind through suspension. There are of
course exceptions to this, hurricanes and tornadoes can and do move coarse rock particles several
centimeters in diameter. Although ice is solid, if flows under the influence of gravity in parts of the
world where there is enough ice all year long to form a glacier. Ice moves at a very slow pace. Acting
as a file, sled, and plow, ice plays a role in erosion and transport. Unlike wind and water, ice is very
viscous and moves only by a laminar flow.
The Differences
The differences in weathering and erosion are as follows: Weathering involves two processes that
often work together to decompose rocks. Mechanical weathering which involves physically breaking
rocks into fragment with any change to their chemical make up of its minerals within. Chemical
weathering which is a chemical change in at least some of the minerals within a rock is the second
process. Each one of these two processes occurs in place, there is no movement involved in
weathering. It is important to remember that weathering is a surface or near surface process. When
particles are loosened by one of the two processes of weathering it moves and then is called erosion.
We call this erosion if the particle is moved by some flowing agent such as ice, wind, or water. Mass
wasting, which is a form of erosion is movement down a slope due to gravity. Some examples of mass
wasting are

Canadas Brain Drain Issue Essay
Canadas Brain Drain Issue What is a brain drain? It is the emigration of highly educated and skilled
Canadians to the United States. Does Canada suffer from a Brain Drain? This is a question that
economists have been trying to answer for a decade now and have conducted different studies
resulting to different conclusions about this issue. There are some economists that believe that yes
Canada is suffering from a brain drain if not now it will be soon, amongst those economists are Don
DeVortez and Samuel Laryea who prepared a study of C.D howe Institute. They claimed that Brain
Drain is real and is costing Canada Tax Payers millions of dollars. Then on the other side of the debate

small group of people to places that they would rather be, they re not going to come back and you re
going to lose a tremendous amount of wealth creation He was responding to Helliwell s theory saying
that the flow of migrants from Canada to the United States, whether overall or only among the highly
educated, are less than a quarter as large as those in the 1960 s. The CEO is trying to say that maybe
the flow of migrants are less but we are losing key players and that in the long run it will definitely
hurt our nation. If the talent is moving away from Canada because of better benefits less tax then the
companies will follow the people that drive success and hence the low number of migrants will
eventually add up to millions of dollars of loss, and at this point millions of dollars is definitely a
problem that the government needs to address and fast.
Helliwell argues that over the last 30 years, there has been a steady continuation of the century long

Capital Gains And Its Effect On Income
During inflationary periods, a significant portion of capital appreciation represents at catch up to
higher prices as opposed to a real increase in income (Slemrod Bakija, 2008). Therefore, if a taxpayer
holds an investment for a significant period of time, the amount of gain realized on the sale of the
investment may exceed the investment s cost basis in terms of the actual dollars received, although a
large portion of the gain being realized may be due to inflation as opposed to a true increase in the
value of the investment (Jones Sommerfeld, 1995).
Realization of Capital Income
Another argument in favor of the preferential tax treatment of long term capital gains is that capital
gains are not recognized annually during the years gains are being accrued. Rather than requiring
taxpayers to value their capital assets annually and include the change in value in their taxable income,
long term capital gains are taxed only when realized (Slemrod Bakija, 2008). By waiting to recognize
the gain at one time during the specific year the gain is realized, the taxpayer risks being taxed at a
higher rate. This is due to the progressive design of the tax rate system. Jones and Sommerfeld (1995)
contended that had the gain been taxed in increments as the asset appreciated in value, being taxed at a
higher rate may have been avoided. The preferential tax rate on long term capital gains offsets the
artificially high tax caused by taxing the accumulated gain all at one time (Jones

Should The Responsiveness Of Margaret Thatcher s Time As...
There s no doubt that Margaret Thatcher s time as Prime Minister changed the way Britain saw itself
and how it was seen on the international stage, but what can be debated is whether or not she was
elected due to her own party s strengths, or the weaknesses of the opposition. The years before and
during Thatcher s time were fraught for the country, with inflation running high and lots of discontent,
displayed not only through strikes but also the via ballot boxes. Thatcher first came to power with a
majority of 43 seats for her first government in May 1979, which rose to 144 seats in June 1983 and in
June 1987 she received her third victory with a 100 seat margin, a sharp drop from 1983 but still a
comprehensive victory. A majority of 144

Introduction
The willingness of consumers to purchase a product or service is the fundamental source of profit for
any business. Understanding consumer behavior is the first step in making profitable pricing,
advertising, product design and production decisions. In order to make marketing decisions, managers
need to know how consumers choose the bundle of goods and services they actually purchase from all
possible bundles that they could purchase. Managers should be aware of the consumer choice process
when estimating the demand for the firms products, forecasting future demand, and making
advertising decisions.
Consumer Preferences
From all the goods or services available to them, buyers choose a combination of items we call a ...

It measures the number of units of Y that must be given up per unit of X added so as to maintain a
constant level of utility.
MRS = ΔY/ΔX
Figure 1. A typical indifference curve
The consumer is indifferent between combinations A (4food and 45clothing) and B (6food and 30
clothing). Thus the rate at which the consumer is willing to substitute is
MRS = ΔY/ΔX = 45 30 / 4 6 = 7.5
The MRS is 7.5, meaning that the consumer is willing to give up 7.5 units of clothing for each unit of
food added.
4. Indifference curves are the further from the origin, the greater level of utility associated with the
curve. Combinations of goods on higher indifference curves are preferred to combinations on lower
curves.
5. Indifference curves are everywhere dense. Theoretically, any number of such indifference curves
could be generated by slicing the utility surface at different altitudes so that the floor of the surface
might appear dense with concentric indifference curves. The collection of representative indifference
curves may be referred to as an indifference curve map.
Budget line
Consumers normally have limited incomes and goods are not free. Their problem is how to spend the
limited income in a way that gives the maximum possible utility. A budget line is the locus of all
combinations or bundles of goods that can be purchased at given prices if the

What Is The Similarities Between Religion And Religion
Throughout human history, religion has been on the forefront of what defines and brings us closer
together. It helps dictate how we treat ourselves and others as well as what we can do to have an
afterlife. Of the many religions that currently exist, Buddhism and Christianity are some the the most
practiced ones. These two religions have certain convictions, qualities and customs which are truly
alike, but they also have qualities, convictions and conventional practices are very opposing. This
makes the investigation of these two religions an intriguing and pleasurable assignment. The
similarities and differences of the two worship establishments are profound and gives people diverse
ways of thinking. The churches and temples play a significant role in these two religions. These are
the places where people can go to seek guidance, pray or meditate. Visiting the churches and temples
of these religions help individuals to understand in depth what the religion is about from the inside and
help philosophers to break down the true meaning of religion. While visiting each church, there were
different feelings as soon as I walked through the doors. At the Buddhist temple, the greeters at the

At the beginning of the service they had a brief discussion lead by the teacher, followed by a silent

Simulation Pricing Strategy
My project this summer was to create a pricing strategy for a simulation that would return the
maximum frequency of pictures spread evenly across a given number of locations. I began by
implementing a simple simulation in which I used Math.Random() to repeatedly generate a number
between zero and thirty, thirty being the set number of locations. I then used the random number
generated as an array index and increased the picture count in the location that the number
corresponded to by one. Each location had a set price so all I did was generate location indexes until
the budget was met. After I finished this very basic simulation, I started contemplating my project
focus which was the pricing strategy I needed to implement. One of the original ideas suggested to me
was the Poisson Distribution in which I could model the simulation as number of pictures taken over a
period of time. I could then allocate more or less of the budget to a time slot based on how many
pictures were taken in the previous time period.
The issues I had when attempting to model this distribution were:
It proved rather difficult to model the simulation based on previous pictures taken, because regardless
of this information when I distributed the budget I had no way of ... Show more content on

I realized from the beginning that there were a lot of factors that could contribute to whether or not a
user takes a photo such as price, distance from a location, etc. I, however, decided to use price as my
primary factor due to my lack of information regarding the other variables. Due to price being the
main factor in the probability I saw little point in modeling the probability of someone taking a photo
with a normal distribution when it can be modeled linearly (the higher the price at a location the more
likely a user is to take a photo at that

State X And The Outer Space Treaty
Summary of Facts In February of 2006, State X claimed a 1000 square kilometer surface area on the
moon as part of its territory and therefore subjected to its territorial jurisdiction. Soon after claiming
the territory, State X began to construct permanent structures on the moon for the purpose of
researching and mining resources. Furthermore, with the newly acquired resources, State X intended
to use it to boosts its own economy.
The issue and lawsuit raised by State Y, which is representing not just itself, but all of the parties to the
Outer Space Treaty of 1967, is that State X although not a party to the Outer Space Treaty, is still
subject to it as a result of article 1 and article 2 of the treaty being deemed Jus Cogens or ... Show

Firstly, in the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties, it highlights the concept Pacta Sunt Servanda
(The United Nations, 1969, art. 26). What this means is that the treaty is binding to all of the parties
that are signed to it. In other words, according to this principle, State X is not bound by the Outer
Space Treaty. This idea is later and clearly reinforced in article 34, where it states that a treaty does not
create obligation...for a third State without its consent (The United Nations, 1969, art. 34).
However, like mentioned above, through article 36 of the treaty, it is possible that a third party state
may be compelled to act in accordance with the treaty if it satisfies two conditions. The first condition
is whether at the time of creation of the treaty, did the parties creating the treaty intend for it to apply
to all states (The United Nations, 1969, art. 36(1)). If we examine the Outer Space Treaty of 1967, we
can easily see that the parties creating the treaty did indeed intend for it to be applied to all states since
contains within the first two articles keywords such as all mankind (Ferreira Snyman, 2015, p.497).
Furthermore, within the treaty, it says that space is open for exploration to all (Ito, 2011). Words such
as all here will mean that it applies to every state, not just states partied to the treaty.
As a result of this, I would definitely agree that

Climate Change And Climate Adaptation
One of the most challenging global issue facing today s society is climate change, it is affecting all
regions across the globe, with some areas experiencing extreme weather events and heavy rainfall,
whereas other regions are hit with droughts and heat waves. Climate change can be defined as a large
scale, long term shift in the planet s weather patterns or average temperatures. (metoffice).
Consequently, a range of challenges are occurring to not only human settlements, but more
importantly to the natural environment as well. It is becoming increasingly important for countries
across the globe to attempt to adapt and mitigate from the effects of climate change. Climate
mitigation is any action taken to permanently eliminate or reduce the long term risk and hazards of
climate change to human life, property. (Global greenhouse warming.com). It can include enhancing
the sinks of greenhouse gases, as well as reducing the sources. Whereas climate adaptation, is
referring to the ability of a system to adjust to climate change (including climate variability and
extremes) to moderate potential damage, to take advantage of opportunities, or to cope with the
consequences. (Global greenhouse warming.com). Adaptation can include improving road
infrastructure, so it would be able to withstand hotter temperatures, or just simply change in behaviour
shifts such as using less water. These two methods are essential and can be connected through
strategic town planning, and can be used to tackle climate change, through an array of
implementations which will not only prepare the globe, but also reduce the impacts of climate change.
Urban areas not only have a profound part in contributing to climate change, but these areas have also
become extremely vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, as more than half of the world s
population are living in urban areas and global rate of urbanisation is evermore increasing. Cities can
be met with an increase in frequency of storms, flooding, landslides and heat waves. Higher
temperatures also occur more frequently in urban areas than rural or suburban surroundings, due to the
urban heat island effect. This is an area, such as a city or industrial site, that has consistently

Wellbeing of the Milspouse
In preparing for my quantitative research I reviewed three articles relating to the wellbeing of the
milspouse. The first article, Military Deployment and the Spouse Left Behind , Asbury and Martin
(2011) included both male and female milspouses who were civilians or they were active duty
personnel themselves. They gathered their data via a voluntary online survey which measured the
spouses depression, anxiety, perceived social support, and marital discord. They focused on the
differences between the civilian milspouses and the military milspouses and hypothesized that the
military milspouses would experience more depression, have higher rates of anxiety, experience
higher rates of isolation and marital discord than their civilian counter parts. They found no significant
difference between the groups in depression, anxiety, or perception of social support. They did
discover in the marital discord findings there was a significant statistical differences between
participants with a spouse in the military and the participants with civilian a spouse. The results
showed that participants with military spouses had more marital discord being that 80% of the military
milspouses and only 17% of the civilian milspouses had frequently considered divorce. (2011, p. 47)

Library Donation Books
This summer I spent hours on the library s third floor, a large area used for storage since the 1970 s;
no air conditioning but lots of dust. I sorted through 177 boxes of books that were donated to the
library. Library staff are not following the current donation policy and all donated books are given to

damage, broken spines and torn pages. Sorting through the boxes led to the addition of 300 adult
fiction titles not owed by the library, example added a new copy of Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz. The
donation books were used to replace 450 loved books with newer copies, example replaced a water

The speaker urges his love to live with him and enjoy the pleasures of the day. Sir Walter Raleigh
wrote a response to this poem in 1600 called The Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd. He uses the nymph
as the speaker, responding to the shepherd. There are no clues to the setting or the nymph s physical
appearance. The themes of this poem are doubt and the point that time changes things. The nymph
thinks realistically and refutes the ideas of the idyllic world the shepherd had proposed to her. The
shepherd seems to be very much of an optimist, whereas the nymph is very pessimistic. The structure
of these two poems is exact. There are six stanzas consisting of four lines each. This shows that The
Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd is responding directly to the shepherd in The Passionate Shepherd to
His Love. In each ideal proposal he gives, she gives him the realistic answer to why they cannot be
together.
Next, the speaker in The Passionate Shepherd to His Love is a young shepherd who proposes a
passionate love affair to the girl he desires. He uses nature largely to appeal to her senses. He tells her
they will sit and watch the other shepherds work and listen to the birds sing. This implies that they
will have a life of pleasure and relaxation. He says he will make beds of roses and give her fragrant
posies (Marlowe 1). He promises to outfit her in fine clothes and that she will not want for anything.

In this assignment we introduce the idea that the organizational culture is the personality of an
organization which can be defined, measured, sustained and changed and have an important impact on
an organization s effectiveness.
We want to define organizational culture as it is presented by two theorists, indicate levels of
expressions of culture in an organization, and provide specific strategies or tools to modify
organizational culture.
We know that every individual has something that psychologists have termed personality . An
individual s personality is made up of a set of relatively permanent and stable traits. When we describe
someone as innovative, relaxed, warm or conservative, we are describing personality traits. An ...

We believe that the internal and external problems are closely interconnected and organizations must
deal with them simultaneously.
In conclusion, Schein (1992) defines the organizational culture as shared assumptions and beliefs
about the world and their place in it, the nature of time and space, human nature, and human
relationships. Organizational culture have distinct dimensions that can be defined and measured. This
is important to know in order to develop and use change strategies of the culture.
Ott s definition of the organizational cultureOn the other hand Ott (1989), in The Organizational
Culture Perspective describe organizational culture as a social constructed, unseen, and unobservable
force behind organizational activities. Organizational culture is a social energy that moves
organizational members to act and unifying theme that provides meaning and direction to and
mobilizes the members. It functions as an organizational control mechanism, informally approving or
prohibiting behaviors (Lawson and Shen, 1998).
In short, organizational culture is a hypothetical construct that must be inferred from the share
thoughts, feelings, values, and actions of organizational members.
Last, Ott suggested that organizational culture is a concept, construct, energy, idea, rather

Auditory Distraction
The purpose of this experiment was to test how auditory distractions, or background noise, affects a
person s reaction time. Believing that if there were people talking in the background, then a person s
reaction time would be slower because they would be more distracted. We tested 30 people, separated
into two groups, using a reaction time stick and noise cancelling headphones. The first group had no
noise, using the noise cancelling headphones, and the reaction times ranged from 180 to 265. The
second group, with background noise played through the headphone, had reaction times ranging from
135 to 280. The results for both groups were very similar in that the mean of the data for the group
with no noise was 215.4 and the mean of the group with background noise was 214.2. This shows that

A study done in 2009 showed that NR [noise reduction] reduces listening effort and frees up cognitive
resources for other tasks. (Sarampalis, A., Kalluri, S., Edwards, B., Hafter, E., 2009). Studies also
show that low frequency noise at levels normally occurring in office like environments may influence
work performance and subjective perception of annoyance and lead to work impairment. (Waye, K.,
Bengtsson, J., Kjellberg, A., Benton, S., 2001). It is also very common for people to listen to music
while driving and if they don t listen to music there is outside noise, such as traffic that can affect the
way they react and perform. A study done in 2015 on the effect of road traffic noise on reaction time
showed that even exposure to traffic noise leads to increase in reaction time. (Alimohammadi, I.,

noise is affecting them it is and it can be causing problems while they don t even think

Nt1330 Unit 5 Exercise 1 Algorithm
In this section, we discuss the implementation of XXX and evaluate the performance of our proposed

Since telecom networks must be always on, it is critical to guarantee network service availability with
the minimum amount of resources. In this paper, we presented XXX, our approach to provisioning
availability in NFV. XXX provides a suite for service providers to concisely describe a data center
topology and estimate the downtime distribution of a mapped SFC request. To reduce the running time
of XXX, we further proposed an optimization framework which estimates the minimum amount of
backup resources required to meet heterogeneous availability requirements and showed an heuristic
solution with a theoretical bound. Through evaluation with data from production data centers, we
demonstrated the effectiveness and efficiency of our solutions. For the future work, we are expanding
our optimization framework to enable expedited estimations of the backup resource needed under
other models of VNF. On the other hand, the downtime estimation accuracy is heavily dependent on
the accuracy of the failure and repair distribution of each layer, including both hardware and software.
Therefore it is important to analyze system log data, extract and model them using appropriate general

Snow Globes Lab Report
Snow globes are made of clear glass, a transparent sphere with a scenic view and a plastic toy inside
the globe. The globe must be shaken to actuate the snow so the white particles can fall gradually to
reach the base. When the marble (object used for this experiment) falls, it experiences two external
forces which are; the gravitational force and the aerodynamic (fluid resistance) drag of the marble,
which affects the rate of the marble. As the marble is falling, the speed is increased due to the
gravitational force, which is pulling the marble downwards to the base of the beaker until it reaches
the terminal velocity, where both external forces are equal. However, there are factors that can affect
the marble s terminal velocity, such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the results are completely different. The results shown in the table, the water and cornstarch
solution is most suitable liquid to use in the snow globes due to its thick viscosity compared to other
solutions. Hence, the marble traveled slower as it created more drag onto the marble. Nevertheless, the
water itself had low viscosity compared to other solutions because the marble reached the base faster
of the measuring cylinder. As a result, it created less drag onto the marble compared to water and
cornstarch solution. Therefore, the thicker the solution, the longer it takes for the marble to reach the
base of the measuring cylinder. However, if the solution has low viscosity (such as water itself), the

Notes On The Bond Bikers
Bikers are strange. They are tough, frightening, and sometimes a little crazy, but coming from a biker,
I can tell you: they are crazy in a completely sane way. The bond bikers share is a strong one. Bikers
are brothers, and it does not take much to create this bond. Strangers can become friends overnight
with the sole commonality of riding. Your background, your history, your beliefs, none of it matters to
them. What truly matters to them is whether or not you ride. Obviously, I do not mean one of those
biker gangs who have terrorized the community; I am referring to anyone who may ride, it could be
Mary Sue, who rides her little scooter to Sunday pottery class or Big John, who rides The Hog across
the country among all of us, for inexplicable reasons, we share a bond. I realize it seems like I have no
idea what I am talking about, considering how little I match the typical Biker persona as a college
freshman. Conversely, I can assure you: I am a biker. Although the only real qualification to be a biker
is motorcycle ownership, there is an unusual coincidence among bikers a characteristic all bikers
share. Something about riding a bike changes you. Bikers possess a certain maturity unlike anything
else. I do not know if it has to do with confronting your own mortality, or the feeling of freedom you
get when escaping the trivialities of life. It could have something to do with the brotherhood you get
from fellow bikers, or if the experience puts everything else

Moral Of The Canterbury Tales
Now it is time to decide which tale in The Canterbury Tales, by Geoffrey Chaucer, rises above the rest.
I stated at the beginning of our journey to Canterbury that I would pick the tale that is greatest moral
teaching and in entertainment value (17). After intently listening to all of your tales, one stood out
from the others. Though many of you told stories that were offensive to other pilgrims on the trip or
told stories that had little moral significance, I determined that there is one that most fully fulfills the
requirements that I have set forth. I have decided that the Nun s Priest s Tale teaches the greatest moral
lesson while having great entertainment value, making the Nun s Priest the winner of our competition.
The Nun s Priest s Tale is a beast fable, an allegory that utilizes animals with human characteristic in
order to illustrate the message. The tale follows the story of Chanticleer, a beautiful rooster whose
voice was merrier than the merry organ that plays in church, (153). One day, a fox named Russell
comes into the yard and begins complementing Chanticleer on his singing talents, persuading him to
stick out his neck and sing with his eyes closed. Because Chanticleer is so entranced by Russell s
flattery, he closes his eyes and begins to sing, allowing Russell to be able to bite his neck and run with
him into the woods. The moral of the Nun s Priest s Tale is clear: never trust a flatterer. Chanticleers
capture is the result of being careless and

Essay on Higher Education and Financial Aid from the...
Going to school and trying to afford it can be a financially draining experience, and I know that from
experience. Our government has made many relevant changes thus far to better support students, but
much more can still be done. With rising tuition costs and not enough government aid, more and more
students are forced to take out loans in order to pay for continuing education. These loans later
become a huge financial burden, some totaling near $30,000. If the dream of a college education is
dependent upon access and affordability, how are young people supposed to continue their education
and plan a future, when the cost of tuition is through the roof? Because higher education supports our
economy, the government should be expected ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A four year degree costs students more than $19,000 (Stieger), and in this day and age it is nearly
impossible to survive with only a high school education; being well qualified for a specific career
position is very important to employers. George Leef, author of Why on Earth Do We Have a Student
Loan Crisis ?, says it best when he states that college graduates are somewhat more reliable and easily
trained than people with only high school diplomas ... if there is a large enough number of [people]
with college degrees, employers don t have to bother with people who don t have them (Leef 29). That
being said, I wonder how young people are expected to obtain some sort of degree, when higher
education is nearly impossible for some families to afford. Although very significant changes have
been made by our government offering improved financial aid to current and future students, more can
still be done. Our politicians could increase the Pell Grant maximum to coincide with rising tuition
costs, increase taxes on irrelevant goods and services to provide students with more direct funding, set
up a reward system that would place more responsibility on the students (rather than themselves), and
most importantly, our two main parties in office need to agree on specific changes.
Appropriate steps have been made by our politicians towards offering enhanced financial support for
students.

Implementing The Awareness And Training Program
Implementing: An IT security awareness and training program should be implemented only after a
needs assessment has been conducted, a strategy has been developed, an awareness and training
program plan for implementing that strategy has been completed, and awareness and training material
has been developed.
The program s implementation must be fully explained to the organization to achieve support for its
implementation and commitment of necessary resources. This explanation includes expectations of
agency management and staff support, as well as expected results of the program and benefits to the
organization. Funding issues must also be addressed. For example, agency managers must know if the

See NIST SP 800 50, Section 5, for techniques for delivering awareness and training material.
Post Implementation
An organization s IT security awareness and training program can quickly become obsolete if
sufficient attention is not paid to technology advancements, IT infrastructure and organizational
changes, and shifts in organizational mission and priorities. CIOs and IT security program managers
need to be cognizant of this potential problem and incorporate mechanisms into their strategy to
ensure the program continues to be relevant and compliant with overall objectives. Continuous
improvement should always be the theme for security awareness and training initiatives, as this is one
area where you can never do enough.
Monitoring Compliance: Once the program has been implemented, processes must be put in place to
monitor compliance and effectiveness. An automated tracking system should be designed to capture
key information regarding program activity (e.g., courses, dates, audience, costs, sources). The
tracking system should capture this data at an agency level, so that it can be used to provide enterprise
wide analysis and reporting regarding awareness, training, and education initiatives.
Tracking compliance involves assessing the status of the program as indicated by the database
information and mapping it to standards established by the agency. Reports can be generated and used
to identify gaps or problems. Corrective

people are scared and lazy and choose to not think for themselves because they were never allowed to

if a society was given freedom, they ll slowly be able to reach enlightment. Which is where public and

Research Paper On Meret Oppenheim
I didn t feel any pleasure from causing a scandal. When at age 17, I understood that women have
always been a commodity since the dawn of time, that they were kept dependent on men...I was
scandalized myself. Meret Oppenheim, 1974.
Throughout her life, different individuals and camps have claimed artist Meret Oppenheim as being
their own particular dream girl. For Man Ray, she was the ideal female body, modelling nude for
several of his most well known photographs. To the Surrealists, she was a muse that provided
intelligence and inspiration to its male members. During the 1970s, she was hailed by feminists and
art historians as being a great woman artist making work that was symptomatic of her female

These words such as dirty, soiled, stained, damaged are crucial to understanding the complexity of
Oppenheim s image making as the materials that lie at the very forefront of the viewer s attention are
not white they are the scuffed, dusty brown platforms that dominate the top view of the shoes. Vastly
different from the innocent looking white leather, the platforms reveal the shame that society can
smear on a woman who no longer is a virgin. Although Meret Oppenheim was against Freudian
psychology, it is hard to escape the insinuations of the Madonna whore complex in Ma Gouvernante.
According to his theory, Freud claims that men organize women in two categorizes based on the state
of their sexual experience. Famously declared in On Sexuality he writes, Where such men love they
have no desire and where they desire they cannot love Because of this division of love and desire,
barriers are placed on women by designating them as either respectably pure, or lustfully tainted.
Taking this problem into consideration, Oppenheim fully represents how a woman cannot escape the
labels: although a whore can appear saintly, and a Madonna can seem carnal, she will always be
classified as being physically one or the other. Correspondingly so, in Ma Gouvernante, the scratches
and scarring on the platforms degrade the high heels by defining them as being worn out, and in
becoming used, the spotless white of the shoe s outer covering appears sarcastically ingenuine.
Clearly, it seems that Oppenheim in her dichotomous representations of the Madonna and whore only
underscores the limitations of the lingual framework that ties a woman s reality to her bodily

The Portrayal Analysis Of Know Your Rights By The Clash
Know Your Rights by The Clash is a song that criticizes the oppression that poor and working class
people face. This song takes a sarcastic tone and goes over the three basic rights that everyone has. It
becomes very clear that the rights The Clash references are bogus and part of a rigged system. The
Clash released Know Your Rights in 1982. The 1980 s, in England where this band was based, was a
time of major social and political revolution. The Clash s music reflected this, primarily producing
music about revolution and the working class. The Clash s defining elements were their punk rock,
passionate, and enthused sound. They are now known as one of the founding punk rock legends.
Know Your Rights sound and message went a long way in terms of empowering the audience; young
adults, poor and working class people, revolutionaries. One of the most important steps in advocacy is
telling a story that will resonate with the desired audience. Telling a story can be used across all the
media realms, providing your audience with content that is packed with utility, seeded with
inspiration, and that is honestly empathetic, is what draws an audience then, but also incites them to

While Jem is talking about Boo Radley to Scout he says, Boo was about six and a half feet tall,
judging him from his tracks; he dined on raw squirrels and any cats he could catch (Lee 16). Jem is
describing how Boo Radley is basically a monster by telling Scout all of the rumors about Boo. Boo
Radley is a mockingbird in the novel because he was an innocent man his whole life until he made a
couple mistakes, and a lot of bad rumors spread. As Scout is finding out who killed Bob Ewell, she
says, Who was it? Why there he is, Mr. Tate, he can tell you his name. As I said it, I half pointed to the
man in the corner... Hey, Boo , I said (Lee 362). Scout is telling us and Atticus that Boo Radley is the
man who killed Bob Ewell while Bob was trying to kill Jem and her. Tom Robinson is a Mockingbird
because he was innocent the whole time until he was forced to be a hero and save Jem and Scout,
making him guilty of murder, taking away his innocence. In To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee,
Boo Radley is a Mockingbird because of how he was innocent his whole life for the most part, but still

Product Review for Folding Hunter Lock- Back Knife Essay
h3 Buck Knives 110 9210 Folding Hunter Lock Back Knife /h3
The Buck Knives Hunter folding knife is a very simple pocket knife for everyday use and outdoor
activities such as hunting. The single stainless steel blade measures out at 3 3/4 inches long, making it
fitting for fans of medium sized knives. The implementation of stainless steel allows the blade to last
for years with everyday wear and tear and even rough conditions outdoors. The blade for this
particular knife is a straight edge which is great for common uses such as self defense and everyday
cutting purposes.
The handle is made up of a combination of wood and brass to make for a sleek design and a
comfortable feeling while holding it.
For a point, we have the popular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of the tools, barring the magnifying glass, and the general construction of the knife are made of
stainless steel to provide the user with durability and strength to deal with everyday and frequent
outdoor use.
While the entirety of the knife s construction is made from stainless steel, the outer shell comes in
either a thick plastic or wood. You can also select colors such as black, red and blue for the plastic
covers.
As for the knives themselves, they re fairly standard blades that come with most multi tool knives.
They re both drop point blades with straight edges, but the inclusion of two saws in the knife negate
the disadvantages of not having a serrated blade. The larger blade of the two is about three inches
long, but it s not particularly wide enough to do many big jobs.
The stainless steel construction also means that the knives will dull fairly easily, and this may occur
even more frequently if the knives tends to rub up against other tools while closing.
Opening the knives can also be difficult for people with short fingernails as the opening to grab the
knife isn t very large. There s also no lock to prevent the knives from accidentally closing, which
could present a safety hazard.

P4 Fire Safety and Choking
In health and social care there are a lot of procedures and precautions put into place so that accidents
don t occur, but no matter how careful organisations are with these kind of incidents there is no way
really of preventing them. In health and social care a lot of risk assessments are taken to make sure the
place is safe but obviously there is still a few things that are unstable or accidents like this wouldn t
occur. The staff s duty then is to work out what happened and how to minimise the risk of it happening
again. An emergency is often unexpected, not planned, dangerous and sometimes life threatening.
Some incidents that can occur include: fires, floods, exposure to infection, and exposure to chemicals,
intruders, aggressive and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Start following the steps to help the victim;
Administer up to 5 back blows using the heel of your hand * Take the bottom part (heel) of your hand

above the navel and below the breastbone. * Grasp that fist in your other hand. * Give separate and
distinct, inward and upward thrusts. Continue until the obstruction is dislodged check after each thrust.

He doesn t create movies but entire worlds with his distinct sensibility and dazzling visual style. The 48 year old Texan is one of the few filmmakers in modern cinema with the ability to articulate such idiosyncratic visions. Every frame of The Grand Budapest Hotel is so Anderson one can spend hours dissecting each and every shot. The film is a colorful and delicious confection to watch that at times you may have the urge to lick the screen. The film opens to a young lady visiting a courtyard, gazing up at a statue of The Author whilst holding his memoir entitled, The Grand Budapest Hotel. We start out in 1985 in a grey sky post Communist town. The Author is shooing away is grandson and recalls the time in the late 60 s when his younger self (Jude Law) stayed at the title hotel. At the time of his stay, the legendary hotel was falling into obsolescence. As time goes on he becomes acquainted with its elegant and mysterious owner, Mr. Moustafa (F. Murray Abraham). Law is curious as to why the immensely rich Moustafa chooses to accompany alone on his visits and insists on sleeping in a room no bigger than a closet. Moustafa, acknowledging The Authors own work with great respect decides to invite him to dinner to satisfy his curiosity. Over the course of the meal, Moustafa reminisces about his first days at the hotel where he worked as a lobby boy under the direction of Monsieur Gustave H (the impeccable ... Your response should be a reaction to the quote, supporting, refuting, or qualifying Malcolm X s stance. You should use evidence from the book to support your assertion. There is no better than adversity. Every defeat, every heartbreak, every loss, contains its own seed, its own lesson on how to improve your performance the next time. Misfortune allows one to learn how to benifit in the future. The seeds represent a new start after making a mistake for any person. Thus allowing them room to improve for the next time. I support Malcolm s qoute and believe that he proved his own words. Malcolm being sentenced to jail made him change his life completely. Once released, Malcolm decided to devote his life to Allah, which made Malcolm realize that hustling was his mistake. c. You don t have to be a man to fight for freedom. What Is Gandhi s Critique Of Modern Civilization Highlight and assess Gandhi s critique of modern civilization and relate it to the debate about the nature and practice of development that surfaced with Gandhi s 1945 exchange with Nehru [in Sudhir Chandra s essay] and continue into the post independence era is with us today. Through the successor ... Gandhi was pitted against a whole discourse which the successor and virtually the whole country considered as the only rational mode of ordering life, be it individual or collective (Chandra 44). In every argument at least two people are involved. However, in many significant controversies or, even more so, in contestations of well accepted norms, the real debate rages not simply between two rational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While Gandhi never precisely defines modern civilization , such a thing may indeed be impossible as the discourse already, to some extent, defines us, he does offer an analogy to understand its nature. As this kind of civilization exists in idealized forms in its literature and theories and realized forms throughout Europe, America, and their colonies, he considers these its identity. From this, one can infer its nature as one learns of a tiger. While, in theory, a tiger could change its character, this question completely misses the point that the very nature of the tiger is at fault (Swaraj 27 28). The preaching of modern civilization, as rhetoric, plus the real patterns of this kind of living comprise the object of his criticism. This marks one of his first important differences from the discourse he opposes. Where Gandhi considers the tiger in terms of its nature and as a pattern of behavior, the technical rationality of the discourse he is arguing against considers a tiger as a particular collection of biological specificities that may sometimes act in predictable ways, but is entirely mutable. While this summary of Gandhi makes him sound more like Plato than is fair, his arguments tend to look for deeper meanings where possible and permanent truths as opposed to the myopia of the discourse he is criticizing. Similarly, Gandhi claims that only men with mature thoughts are capable of ruling themselves (Swaraj 16), whereas modern civilization boasts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Most Dominant And Influential Empires The Umayyads created the first true Muslim dynasty passing down power strictly within family boundaries from generation to generation. During their reign lasting from 661 to 750 AD, they built the early Islamic community up into one of the most dominant and influential empires in the world. During this time, the Umayyads would create the basis of how the Islamic Empire would be operated moving forward. They would soon become a dynasty in question because of their lack of descent from Muhammad, their arguable passage of power from father to son, and their injustice and ill treatment of non Arab Muslims. Their desecrating rulers overall had a negative impact on Islam and ultimately led to their fall. The Umayyad clan was openly one of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ali then succeeded Uthman as the next caliph. Muawiya wanted the assassins responsible for Uthman s death to be handed over, but Ali was unable to comply with his demands. This conflict led to the first Muslim civil war or fitna. Ali defeated Aisha, a supporter of Muawiya who was also the Prophet Muhammad s widow, and other prominent Muslims at the Battle of the Camel, but then later lost to Muawiya at the Battle of Siffin in Syria. The civil war ended with no winner, but shortly after Ali was assassinated by a kharijite in Kufa. Muawiya emerged as the leader after convincing Al Hasan, Ali s son, to give up his right to the caliphate establishing himself as the first Umayyad caliph. He was driven to create a strong, effective, and somewhat centralized government. He moved the capital from Medina to Damascus and gave Christians, in many cases ex Byzantine officials government positions, which led to some new financial and administrative systems that were unwelcomed by many. Muawiya was the beginning of a long line of impious rulers who did not give in to what the people of the province wanted, had his own personal agenda, and really only gave in to the religion of Islam around the time they assumed a government position. Rainfall, biologic activity, abundance of openings, composition of the rock, amount of vegetation, temperature, and tectonic settings are important factors in the weathering process. External forces like wind, water, and ice are constantly causing changes in the surface of rocks. These activities are cutting some material away while depositing other materials here and there. This process landscapes the Earth as we see it. Weathering falls into two categories, mechanical weathering and chemical weathering. Mechanical weathering is where a rock physically breaks down into pieces but does not change the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Only the dust remains aloft long enough to be moved by the wind through suspension. There are of course exceptions to this, hurricanes and tornadoes can and do move coarse rock particles several centimeters in diameter. Although ice is solid, if flows under the influence of gravity in parts of the world where there is enough ice all year long to form a glacier. Ice moves at a very slow pace. Acting as a file, sled, and plow, ice plays a role in erosion and transport. Unlike wind and water, ice is very viscous and moves only by a laminar flow. The Differences The differences in weathering and erosion are as follows: Weathering involves two processes that often work together to decompose rocks. Mechanical weathering which involves physically breaking rocks into fragment with any change to their chemical make up of its minerals within. Chemical weathering which is a chemical change in at least some of the minerals within a rock is the second process. Each one of these two processes occurs in place, there is no movement involved in weathering. It is important to remember that weathering is a surface or near surface process. When particles are loosened by one of the two processes of weathering it moves and then is called erosion. We call this erosion if the particle is moved by some flowing agent such as ice, wind, or water. Mass wasting, which is a form of erosion is movement down a slope due to gravity. This is a question that economists have been trying to answer for a decade now and have conducted different studies resulting to different conclusions about this issue. If you lose that one person or that small group of people to places that they would rather be, they re not going to come back and you re going to lose a tremendous amount of wealth creation He was responding to Helliwell s theory saying that the flow of migrants from Canada to the United States, whether overall or only among the highly educated, are less than a quarter as large as those in the 1960 s. The CEO is trying to say that maybe the flow of migrants are less but we are losing key players and that in the long run it will definitely hurt our nation. If the talent is moving away from Canada because of better benefits less tax then the companies will follow the people that drive success and hence the low number of migrants will eventually add up to millions of dollars of loss, and at this point millions of dollars is definitely a problem that the government needs to address and fast. Therefore, if a taxpayer holds an investment for a significant period of time, the amount of gain realized on the sale of the investment may exceed the investment s cost basis in terms of the actual dollars received, although a large portion of the gain being realized may be due to inflation as opposed to a true increase in the value of the investment (Jones Sommerfeld, 1995). Realization of Capital Income Another argument in favor of the preferential tax treatment of long term capital gains is that capital gains are not recognized annually during the years gains are being accrued. Rather than requiring taxpayers to value their capital assets annually and include the change in value in their taxable income, long term capital gains are taxed only when realized (Slemrod Bakija, 2008). By waiting to recognize the gain at one time during the specific year the gain is realized, the taxpayer risks being taxed at a higher rate. This is due to the progressive design of the tax rate system. Jones and Sommerfeld (1995) contended that had the gain been taxed in increments as the asset appreciated in value, being taxed at a higher rate may have been avoided. The preferential tax rate on long term capital gains offsets the artificially high tax caused by taxing the accumulated gain all at one time (Jones ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There s no doubt that Margaret Thatcher s time as Prime Minister changed the way Britain saw itself and how it was seen on the international stage, but what can be debated is whether or not she was elected due to her own party s strengths, or the weaknesses of the opposition. The years before and during Thatcher s time were fraught for the country, with inflation running high and lots of discontent, displayed not only through strikes but also the via ballot boxes. Thatcher first came to power with a majority of 43 seats for her first government in May 1979, which rose to 144 seats in June 1983 and in June 1987 she received her third victory with a 100 seat margin, a sharp drop from 1983 but still a comprehensive victory. Understanding consumer behavior is the first step in making profitable pricing, advertising, product design and production decisions. In order to make marketing decisions, managers need to know how consumers choose the bundle of goods and services they actually purchase from all possible bundles that they could purchase. Managers should be aware of the consumer choice process when estimating the demand for the firms products, forecasting future demand, and making advertising decisions. It helps dictate how we treat ourselves and others as well as what we can do to have an afterlife. Of the many religions that currently exist, Buddhism and Christianity are some the the most practiced ones. These two religions have certain convictions, qualities and customs which are truly alike, but they also have qualities, convictions and conventional practices are very opposing. This makes the investigation of these two religions an intriguing and pleasurable assignment. The similarities and differences of the two worship establishments are profound and gives people diverse ways of thinking. The churches and temples play a significant role in these two religions. These are the places where people can go to seek guidance, pray or meditate. Visiting the churches and temples of these religions help individuals to understand in depth what the religion is about from the inside and help philosophers to break down the true meaning of religion. While visiting each church, there were different feelings as soon as I walked through the doors. • 15. Simulation Pricing Strategy My project this summer was to create a pricing strategy for a simulation that would return the maximum frequency of pictures spread evenly across a given number of locations. I began by implementing a simple simulation in which I used Math.Random() to repeatedly generate a number between zero and thirty, thirty being the set number of locations. I then used the random number generated as an array index and increased the picture count in the location that the number corresponded to by one. Each location had a set price so all I did was generate location indexes until the budget was met. After I finished this very basic simulation, I started contemplating my project focus which was the pricing strategy I needed to implement. One of the original ideas suggested to me was the Poisson Distribution in which I could model the simulation as number of pictures taken over a period of time. I could then allocate more or less of the budget to a time slot based on how many pictures were taken in the previous time period. The issues I had when attempting to model this distribution were: It proved rather difficult to model the simulation based on previous pictures taken, because regardless of this information when I distributed the budget I had no way of ... State X And The Outer Space Treaty Summary of Facts In February of 2006, State X claimed a 1000 square kilometer surface area on the moon as part of its territory and therefore subjected to its territorial jurisdiction. Soon after claiming the territory, State X began to construct permanent structures on the moon for the purpose of researching and mining resources. Furthermore, with the newly acquired resources, State X intended to use it to boosts its own economy. The issue and lawsuit raised by State Y, which is representing not just itself, but all of the parties to the Outer Space Treaty of 1967, is that State X although not a party to the Outer Space Treaty, is still subject to it as a result of article 1 and article 2 of the treaty being deemed Jus Cogens or ... What this means is that the treaty is binding to all of the parties that are signed to it. In other words, according to this principle, State X is not bound by the Outer Space Treaty. This idea is later and clearly reinforced in article 34, where it states that a treaty does not create obligation...for a third State without its consent (The United Nations, 1969, art. 34). However, like mentioned above, through article 36 of the treaty, it is possible that a third party state may be compelled to act in accordance with the treaty if it satisfies two conditions. The first condition is whether at the time of creation of the treaty, did the parties creating the treaty intend for it to apply to all states (The United Nations, 1969, art. 36(1)). If we examine the Outer Space Treaty of 1967, we can easily see that the parties creating the treaty did indeed intend for it to be applied to all states since contains within the first two articles keywords such as all mankind (Ferreira Snyman, 2015, p.497). • 18. Climate Change And Climate Adaptation One of the most challenging global issue facing today s society is climate change, it is affecting all regions across the globe, with some areas experiencing extreme weather events and heavy rainfall, whereas other regions are hit with droughts and heat waves. Climate change can be defined as a large scale, long term shift in the planet s weather patterns or average temperatures. (metoffice). Consequently, a range of challenges are occurring to not only human settlements, but more importantly to the natural environment as well. It is becoming increasingly important for countries across the globe to attempt to adapt and mitigate from the effects of climate change. Climate mitigation is any action taken to permanently eliminate or reduce the long term risk and hazards of climate change to human life, property. (Global greenhouse warming.com). It can include enhancing the sinks of greenhouse gases, as well as reducing the sources. Whereas climate adaptation, is referring to the ability of a system to adjust to climate change (including climate variability and extremes) to moderate potential damage, to take advantage of opportunities, or to cope with the consequences. (Global greenhouse warming.com). Adaptation can include improving road infrastructure, so it would be able to withstand hotter temperatures, or just simply change in behaviour shifts such as using less water. These two methods are essential and can be connected through strategic town planning, and can be used to tackle climate change, through an array of implementations which will not only prepare the globe, but also reduce the impacts of climate change. Urban areas not only have a profound part in contributing to climate change, but these areas have also become extremely vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, as more than half of the world s population are living in urban areas and global rate of urbanisation is evermore increasing. Cities can be met with an increase in frequency of storms, flooding, landslides and heat waves. Higher temperatures also occur more frequently in urban areas than rural or suburban surroundings, due to the urban heat island effect. The themes of this poem are doubt and the point that time changes things. The nymph thinks realistically and refutes the ideas of the idyllic world the shepherd had proposed to her. The shepherd seems to be very much of an optimist, whereas the nymph is very pessimistic. The structure of these two poems is exact. There are six stanzas consisting of four lines each. This shows that The Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd is responding directly to the shepherd in The Passionate Shepherd to His Love. • 32. Moral Of The Canterbury Tales Now it is time to decide which tale in The Canterbury Tales, by Geoffrey Chaucer, rises above the rest. I stated at the beginning of our journey to Canterbury that I would pick the tale that is greatest moral teaching and in entertainment value (17). After intently listening to all of your tales, one stood out from the others. Though many of you told stories that were offensive to other pilgrims on the trip or told stories that had little moral significance, I determined that there is one that most fully fulfills the requirements that I have set forth. I have decided that the Nun s Priest s Tale teaches the greatest moral lesson while having great entertainment value, making the Nun s Priest the winner of our competition. The Nun s Priest s Tale is a beast fable, an allegory that utilizes animals with human characteristic in order to illustrate the message. The tale follows the story of Chanticleer, a beautiful rooster whose voice was merrier than the merry organ that plays in church, (153). One day, a fox named Russell comes into the yard and begins complementing Chanticleer on his singing talents, persuading him to stick out his neck and sing with his eyes closed. Because Chanticleer is so entranced by Russell s flattery, he closes his eyes and begins to sing, allowing Russell to be able to bite his neck and run with him into the woods. The moral of the Nun s Priest s Tale is clear: never trust a flatterer. Chanticleers capture is the result of being careless and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Essay on Higher Education and Financial Aid from the... Going to school and trying to afford it can be a financially draining experience, and I know that from experience. Our government has made many relevant changes thus far to better support students, but much more can still be done. With rising tuition costs and not enough government aid, more and more students are forced to take out loans in order to pay for continuing education. These loans later become a huge financial burden, some totaling near $30,000. If the dream of a college education is dependent upon access and affordability, how are young people supposed to continue their education and plan a future, when the cost of tuition is through the roof? Because higher education supports our economy, the government should be expected ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A four year degree costs students more than $19,000 (Stieger), and in this day and age it is nearly impossible to survive with only a high school education; being well qualified for a specific career position is very important to employers. George Leef, author of Why on Earth Do We Have a Student Loan Crisis ?, says it best when he states that college graduates are somewhat more reliable and easily trained than people with only high school diplomas ... if there is a large enough number of [people] with college degrees, employers don t have to bother with people who don t have them (Leef 29). That being said, I wonder how young people are expected to obtain some sort of degree, when higher education is nearly impossible for some families to afford. Although very significant changes have been made by our government offering improved financial aid to current and future students, more can still be done. Our politicians could increase the Pell Grant maximum to coincide with rising tuition costs, increase taxes on irrelevant goods and services to provide students with more direct funding, set up a reward system that would place more responsibility on the students (rather than themselves), and most importantly, our two main parties in office need to agree on specific changes. Appropriate steps have been made by our politicians towards offering enhanced financial support for students. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Implementing The Awareness And Training Program Implementing: An IT security awareness and training program should be implemented only after a needs assessment has been conducted, a strategy has been developed, an awareness and training program plan for implementing that strategy has been completed, and awareness and training material has been developed. The program s implementation must be fully explained to the organization to achieve support for its implementation and commitment of necessary resources. This explanation includes expectations of agency management and staff support, as well as expected results of the program and benefits to the organization. Funding issues must also be addressed. For example, agency managers must know if the cost to implement the awareness and training ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... See NIST SP 800 50, Section 5, for techniques for delivering awareness and training material. Post Implementation An organization s IT security awareness and training program can quickly become obsolete if sufficient attention is not paid to technology advancements, IT infrastructure and organizational changes, and shifts in organizational mission and priorities. CIOs and IT security program managers need to be cognizant of this potential problem and incorporate mechanisms into their strategy to ensure the program continues to be relevant and compliant with overall objectives. Continuous improvement should always be the theme for security awareness and training initiatives, as this is one area where you can never do enough. Monitoring Compliance: Once the program has been implemented, processes must be put in place to monitor compliance and effectiveness. An automated tracking system should be designed to capture key information regarding program activity (e.g., courses, dates, audience, costs, sources). The tracking system should capture this data at an agency level, so that it can be used to provide enterprise wide analysis and reporting regarding awareness, training, and education initiatives. Tracking compliance involves assessing the status of the program as indicated by the database information and mapping it to standards established by the agency. Reports can be generated and used to identify gaps or problems. Corrective ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Kant s words, Enlightment is man s emergence from his self imposed immaturity ; he uses the term immaturity as a way to describe someone who uses other peoples thoughts to make up for their own instead of thinking for themselves. Kant then states that these people are scared and lazy and choose to not think for themselves because they were never allowed to in the first place so they became dependent on others thinking for them. However, Kant believed that if a society was given freedom, they ll slowly be able to reach enlightment. Which is where public and private use of reason come into place. Kant described ... When at age 17, I understood that women have always been a commodity since the dawn of time, that they were kept dependent on men...I was scandalized myself. Meret Oppenheim, 1974. Throughout her life, different individuals and camps have claimed artist Meret Oppenheim as being their own particular dream girl. For Man Ray, she was the ideal female body, modelling nude for several of his most well known photographs. To the Surrealists, she was a muse that provided intelligence and inspiration to its male members. During the 1970s, she was hailed by feminists and art historians as being a great woman artist making work that was symptomatic of her female condition. As a result, ... These words such as dirty, soiled, stained, damaged are crucial to understanding the complexity of Oppenheim s image making as the materials that lie at the very forefront of the viewer s attention are not white they are the scuffed, dusty brown platforms that dominate the top view of the shoes. Vastly different from the innocent looking white leather, the platforms reveal the shame that society can smear on a woman who no longer is a virgin. Although Meret Oppenheim was against Freudian psychology, it is hard to escape the insinuations of the Madonna whore complex in Ma Gouvernante. According to his theory, Freud claims that men organize women in two categorizes based on the state of their sexual experience. Famously declared in On Sexuality he writes, Where such men love they have no desire and where they desire they cannot love Because of this division of love and desire, barriers are placed on women by designating them as either respectably pure, or lustfully tainted. Taking this problem into consideration, Oppenheim fully represents how a woman cannot escape the labels: although a whore can appear saintly, and a Madonna can seem carnal, she will always be classified as being physically one or the other. Correspondingly so, in Ma Gouvernante, the scratches and scarring on the platforms degrade the high heels by defining them as being worn out, and in becoming used, the spotless white of the shoe s outer covering appears sarcastically ingenuine. Clearly, it seems that Oppenheim in her dichotomous representations of the Madonna and whore only underscores the limitations of the lingual framework that ties a woman s reality to her bodily ... This song takes a sarcastic tone and goes over the three basic rights that everyone has. It becomes very clear that the rights The Clash references are bogus and part of a rigged system. You can also select colors such as black, red and blue for the plastic covers. As for the knives themselves, they re fairly standard blades that come with most multi tool knives. They re both drop point blades with straight edges, but the inclusion of two saws in the knife negate the disadvantages of not having a serrated blade. The larger blade of the two is about three inches long, but it s not particularly wide enough to do many big jobs. The stainless steel construction also means that the knives will dull fairly easily, and this may occur even more frequently if the knives tends to rub up against other tools while closing.
