One afternoon, I watched over a group of toddlers playing in a nursery. I noticed a little boy
playing with a jack in the box. He kept turning the crank on the box and giggling when the lid

I took the professor guided a debate between myself and my colleage. The subject of the debate was
whether we should raise the minimum wage. My view conflicted that of my colleage who thought

Balancing True Love
The male female relationships in Ibsen s play Hedda Gabler, and Chekhov s play The Cherry
Orchard show the women partners as incapable of the mutual respect and understanding necessary
for a sustained and fulfilling committed relationship. Hedda, Thea, Madame,Varya, and even young
Anya cannot enter or maintain a marriage because each of them have not yet self actualized. None
of the relationships in the plays offer any type of fulfillment. The two writers are alike in the way
that their portrayals pose these two questions: What may a woman give and receive from her
partner/husband if she herself lacks self nourishment and balance? Societal expectations and, in
the case of the The Cherry Orchard, an aristocracy losing its wealth and power precipitate each
woman s crisis. For any healthy relationship to last, both partners have to be fully committed to
each other. In both plays, none of the relationships really offer any type of fulfillment. The title of
Hedda Gabler, uses Hedda s maiden name, Gabler, even though her married name is Hedda
Tesman. Based off of the initial reading of the title, one can already tell that there is a strong

On Wednesday the 18th February the year 12 biology class went to Siren s Rock between Island
bay and Owhiro bay to study community patterns. The community pattern we were studying
was zonation on the rocky shore. Zonation is when an environmental factor changes, the
distribution of species changes which results in the species being present in zones or bands. In
this report I am going to talk about the Cellana denticulata limpet, the Cellana radian and the
relationship between the two species. Species 1: Description: The Cellana denticulata is a
limpet which belongs in the true limpet family. A true limpet is a small marine gastropod
mollusc. The C denticulata is a mollusc due to it having a soft body with a hard shell. The shell
of the C denticulata is a lot more elevated and bigger than other species of limpets with 20 30
strong ribs granulose and scaly. The colour of the shell can vary from a grey to brown colour.
On the inside of the shell the C denticulata is a bluish whitey colour with darker streaks where the
undersides of the ribs are. The C denticulata has a strong muscular foot on the underside of their
body which allows it to suction itself onto the rock to prevent slipping or falling from the rock.
This limits the movements of where the C denticulata can travel as they cannot move in large

We didn t have birthdays like you growing up. I was gripped from the beginning of this interview
to learn about the generational differences between me and my grandmother. Donna McGuire,
my grandmother, has led a very different life than mine own due to multiple generation gaps and

As a senior in high school the time has come when people begin to ask big and sometimes
overwhelming questions like, Where are you going to college? and What will be your major?

nineteenth century. Nathaniel Hawthorne writes of some challenges that man could run into during
the exploration and application of new technology in The Birthmark. These challenges are not
entirely physical but they are more so about an internal struggle within Victorian mindsets. In The
Birthmark there are only three characters: Aylmer, a scientist, Georgiana, Aylmer s wife, and
Aminadab, Aylmer s lab assistant. Hawthorne isolates the characters in their caste to present

many levels as he wraps up the story. The most obvious is that Aylmer murders his lovely bride
when he perfects Nature. Georgiana is enamored by Aylmer s experiments even though he often
fails. She gains confidence and submits herself willingly but only to vicariously pursue happiness
through her husband s experiment. Knowing that her birthmark makes her an object of horror to
the one she loves, she finds life to be a burden and is willing to risk her own life for both of their
happiness (Hawthorne 292).

Life of Pi reflects many of the themes we discussed this week. For the sake of wordcount, I m going

The most evident similarity between Life of Pi and early Romanticism is the speaker s connection
to nature. Wordsworth and Coleridge are primarily enamored by nature at a macro level. In
Tintern Abbey, Wordsworth writes The day is come when I again repose / Here, under this dark
sycamore, and view / These plots of cottage ground, these orchard tufts (9 11), displaying his
affinity for looking out at the grandness of nature. Raised at a zoo, Pi s specific knowledge and
deep connection to the animal world is more akin to Charlotte Smith s botanical approach to
native species in Beachy Head. That said, Pi s love for nature is great and comparable to each piece
we read this week.
While we didn t discuss it explicitly, I believe that Beachy Head introduces the sublime. The
sheer enormity of Beachy Head places it in the category of violent beauty. Reading even the first
line of the poem, On thy stupendous summit, rock sublime! (1), makes clear the awe inspiring
nature of the cliff. Alone at sea (with a Bengal tiger, no less), the sublime overwhelms Pi. Richard
Parker, the tiger, is a magnificent creature, but deadly, and the ocean is beautiful and terrifying in it
s own right. The movie portrays this well with stunning cinematography, displaying Pi s profound
solitude on vast expanses of sea and sky.
On a philosophical level, Life of Pi is about Pi Patel s relationship with religion. Pi is raised Hindu
but chooses to practice Catholicism and Islam as well. The book opens by telling us that Pi s is
a story that will make you believe in God (Martell 2012 x). Pi is devout in his beliefs about three
religions, and about nature and goodness. Like Wordsworth and Coleridge, Pi s faith is strong
but separate from traditional organized religion. Pi s beliefs are similar to Coleridge s one life
(mentioned in The Eolian Harp (24 25), a belief that all beings are connected spiritually through

trains and telegraphs made sports a nationwide event. Thousands of new inventions of technology

The Current Road Safety Measures
Introduction
There are a myriad of different dangers on any college campus and Ohio State is no different. If
any of these dangers can be minimized or eliminated they should be. Pedestrians on and around
the campus have made complaints about driver speed, and Ohio State wants to know if
pedestrians in the campus area are safe with the current road safety measures. The purpose of this
experiment was to test the speeds of cars on two major roads near Ohio States campus and decide if
these speeds are safe.
The next sections outline the different areas of the experiment. Section 2 describes how this
experiment was carried out and what is necessary to replicate it. Section 3 presents the data
collected by the experiment, and section 4 analyzes the data. Lastly, section 5 summarizes the
experiment and makes suggestions for future experiments and studies.
Experimental Methodology
To determine the speed of the cars a 176ft distance was measured out and the time it took cars to
pass through the area was measured. The time was then recorded on a table of time intervals.
The time intervals fell between 1.33 seconds and 12 seconds. Every time a car s time was
recorded, a tally was placed in the appropriate row. Each row had a 2 mph speed interval, and this
was how the speed of the cars was determined. This table is in the appendix for reference and
further understanding.

Then the object absorbs some of the light. Then, it reflects the rest of it. The wavelengths of the
reflected light determine what you see.

On a trip to the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art, my boyfriend, David, and I strolled through the
museum while I, being an art history major, recited to him all that I knew about certain pieces.

Morgenstern. We first find him as a young boy who was not interested in anything, other than
baseball, and wishing that his teacher was actually his mother. So wrapped up in this he even
fantasizes that one day his father would come clean and declare his teacher as being his real

The key component of this picture is that you can see their small child, who looks very innocent, in
