The Importance Of Perseverance In Rita Hayworth And The...
Perseverance, the motivation of doing something that consists of difficult objectives or something can
set back the main course of achieving a task. A novella about two convicted inmates and how one
gutsy inmate named Andy Dufresne escapes the Shawshank Prison. His buddy Red had run alongside
his decision and helped him through it, even though Red was the only one in the prison to truthfully
admit that Andy did not do it. Andy did not kill his wife and her lover. Elwood Blatch had committed
the crime. Elwood was a former cellmate of Tommy Williams in another prison, and Elwood would
like to brag about such crimes he committed and Tommy was present at the time of his confession. So
Tommy then later informed Andy about it in the Shawshank State Prison. In Rita Hayworth and the
Shawshank Redemption wrote by Stephen King , the main focus is perseverance. Perseverance is
present in this novella, and present in most of the characters. Their motivation and determination
thrown towards a goal that might be far fetched, but in time can be attained. The two characters that
had maintained perseverance throughout the novella were, Andy Dufresne and Red. Then I will put in
my own take on perseverance.
Andy Dufresne, his time at the Shawshank prison had most indefinitely affected all the inmates and
guards in the prison, Andy was sent to prison for the murder of his wife, Linda, and her lover, Glenn
Quentin. Although there is a twist to this scenario, despite the fact that Dufresne

Big Data has gained massive importance in IT and Business...
Big Data has gained massive importance in IT and Business today. A report recently published state
that use of big data by a retailer could increase its operating margin by more than 60 percent and it
also states that US health care sector could make more than $300 billion profit with the use of big
data. There are many other sectors that could profit largely by proper analysis and usage of big data.
Although big data promises better margin s, more revenue and improvised operations it also brings
new challenges to the It infrastructure which is extreme data management .At the same time these

We can combine these with existing enterprise data warehouse to create an integrated information
supply chain which will be very effective. The goals of an information supply chain would be to
utilize and integrate the many various raw source data that already exists in organizations, analyze this
data and lastly to deliver the analytical results to business users. This information supply chain enable
the data component called Smarter Computing.
Supporting Extreme Workloads has always been a challenge faced by the computing industry. For
example the business transaction processing systems have supported extreme transaction workload
even since the beginning of data processing. With the advent of new business these organizations have
employed custom and optimized transaction processing systems to handle application workloads that
created boundaries which was beyond what could be handled by the generalized technologies. There
are many examples for this these type of application like :
1. Airline reservation systems
2. Retail point of sale terminals
3. Bank ATM systems
4. Financial trading systems
5. Mobile phone systems
Most recently applications for sensor network that track items with RFID tags can also be added to
this list of examples.

Symbolism In Rip Van Winkle
Washington Irving Rip Van Winkle, a short story written by Washington Irving, is set in the Dutch
culture of pre Revolutionary war in New York and is based on a German folktale. Rip is a farmer that
goes into the Kaatskill mountains to get away from his wife but ends up drinking a strange liquor, falls
asleep, wakes up 20 years later to find out that the world around him has changed dramatically
including the death of his wife and his children growing up. In the story of Rip Van Winkle, Irving
intertwines history, myth, and popular culture of the Revolutionary war period. Washington Irving
created many representations throughout his short story of Rip Van Winkle about the history of the

Rip, much like America during this period, was having trouble finding his identity throughout the
story and he finally finds it at the end of the story when his daughter finds him and takes him home to
live with her. Now Rip can enjoy his freedom, just like America is able to enjoy her freedom (Pierce).
Washington Irving also included mythical, supernatural, and Gothic elements into his short story of
Rip Van Winkle. We first begin to see this when describing the mountains, he says produces some
change in the magical hues and shapes of these mountains (Irving) and in the same paragraph when he
is describing the mountains he says, at the foot of these fairy mountains (Irving). This is the first
glimpse that we have of these elements in the story. Irving When Rip hears his name being echoed in
the woods but can see nothing but a crow winging its solitary flight across the mountain, (Irving, Rip
Van Winkle) Irving touches on the supernatural being in the woods also. The crow is crucial in the
story because a crow represents the arrival of a trickster in narrative literature. While Rip s name is
being called out for the second time, Wolf bristled up his back, and giving a low growl, skulked to his
master s side, looking fearfully down the glen (Irving, Rip Van Winkle) which gives us the sense that
even his dog felt uneasy about what was going on and that Rip should

Cover Letter Benefits
A cover letter is necessary and very helpful for employers when filtering through multiple resumes. To
an employer a cover letter is a bit of a preview as to what the resume has to offer, while to a
prospective employee, a cover letter is a foot in the door. According to the Office of Career Services at
Harvard University, A good way to create a response producing cover letter is to highlight your skills
or experiences that are most applicable to the job or industry and to tailor the letter to the specific
organization you are applying to (16). It is one s first impression in black and white and states a clear
desire and capability for the desired position. Think of the cover letter as one s voice for their
personality and drive that sets them apart from others, where as the resume is the facts and details of
one s experience and capabilities.
What most if not all sources for tips on writing an effective cover letter for a position within the health
care state, is the importance of focusing on the needs of the employer and highlighting your

With the business internal control out of control I would recommend to hire an accountant with
extensive internal audit situation with businesses that was in a similar state. A company executive
should be placed as project head to work with the auditor. This will help to give the auditor a clear
understanding of where the company is and the direction it wants to go. By them working together the
executive offers the business plan of what they want and the auditor offers the expertise and
experience in process to get the company there. The sooner the company hires an internal auditor the
sooner the business internal control system can be turned around.

Key Factors Of The Division Over Instrumental Integration...
What were the key factors of the division over instrumental integration into worship? This paper will
discuss the thought process behind the rejection of instruments, explaining; why those who favored it
chose to keep peace, why it was seen as impure worship to those who rejected it, and why it was not
ordained according to positive law. During the Stone Campbell movement, music was a strict topic
because of its significant in worship to God. Since the time that Europeans first arrived to North
America, music has been a very crucial factor to the development and spreading of Christianity.
Christianity is known for the diversity of traditions, as well as the diversity of music expressions of
these traditions. (Stowe, 2010) The instrumental ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
McGarvey leads his argument by presenting as fact, the idea that,
...any part of the Jewish worship was discontinued by those who organized the Christian church, is a
direct condemnation of it by the Spirit of God as unsuited to the new institution. (Campbell 1865, 187)
This claim is unsubstantiated, therefore the entire argument is fallacious.
When a church of Disciples of Christ played its first instrument (a melodeon) in worship, it caused
huge controversy. An elder of the church removed it from the church one night and sold it because he
saw it as unscriptural. A man named Huldrych Zwingli who was a well known instrumentalists, also
rejected instrumental music and banned all playing of organs in worship. Under his influence, some of
his followers went to their churches and destroyed their organs. Reading Monroe Hawley s article,
Controversy in St. Louis, the First Church built a building that included expensive commodities. One
of which was a $3000 organ. (Hawley 1984, 4) Though it seemed like a blessing, it brought a debt
upon the congregation, which led to prompting members to actually rent pews. This caused a lot of
commotion. A woman named Louise Hockday, along with many other members, pushed to have the
organ torn out and sold. But as a vote was made, the organ was decided to stay and members who
opposed left. Because of this, both sides of the controversy met to settle it on December 27th 30th,
1870.
Some of these arbitrators were Alexander Proctor,

Hinduism And The Islamic Religion
Thousands of years has passed since man was created, and ever since then people have always
worshipped a higher figure, being or object. For primitive humans the first thing they worshipped was
a stone, then plants and trees. As time passed and civilization evolved, it altered and man started to
worship animals, especially those that had a dominant physical trait. People s adoration then changed
to the elements, then to man in the form of priests, kings or prophets and finally it has, settled on
Heavenly Beings which are worshipped by different religions. Two of the more prominent religions in
society are Hinduism and the Islamic religion. The Origins of Worship | Urantia Book | Urantia

This is evident in their god Surya who is their sun god, Garuda the messenger god and Hanuman, the
god of courage and power. Yet, there has to be more prominent deities in their religion, and there is.
There are three gods which are a part of the Hinduism triumvirate, which are the gods that have the
responsibility of the creation, preservation and destruction of the world, they include Brahma, Vishnu
and Shiva. Brahma, is the creator God and is considered to have been the founder of the world. Even
though he played such a vital role in the creation of Earth, he is the least worshiped god in Hinduism.
This is mainly because his role in creation is, apparently, over. The god Vishnu is proclaimed to be the
powerful preserver and protector. This god is one of the more worshiped gods due to defending the
world that we live on. The god responsible for destruction is Shiva. Even though it sounds like this
god has a passion for slaughter, the destruction that Shiva causes is believed to extinguish the flaws in
our world. (Swami krishnananda.org. 2015) and (bbc.co.uk. 2015)
Even though followers of Hinduism have many gods in their religion they usually have a personal
God which they support the most and worship more than the others. Whilst a large percentage of
Hindu s believe in hundreds of gods, some like to argue that there is only one or three gods to
worship. (Shaivam.org. 2015)
By worshipping different gods the followers of Hinduism

The Modern Day System Of International Commerce
Introduction
The modern day system of international commerce has developed over roughly 200 years. Much until
about the end of the eighteenth century it was most unlikely to transact export trade as it is today
because of lack of technological infrastructure. The important legal framework which would have
made for the use of the bill of lading as a document of transfer was lacking. Today much of the world
s tonnage is transacted under cif contracts which debuted about 150 years ago.
In international trade, the sales contract is the heart of an export import transaction. It is however,
always supported by several other related contracts, reflecting the complexity of the transaction and
number of parties involved. Basic among these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because most of the statements as to the passing of risk under fob are as regards whether goods
are on board/loaded or not. They essentially do not deal with the constraint of damage or loss of goods
during loading. In Pyrene Co. Ltd v Scindia Navigation Co. Ltd a fire tender sold fob London
previously was damaged through the fault of the carrier while being carried onboard. This damage in
question occurred prior to the tender crossing the rail and the question that arose was whether the
shipowner was entitled to limit his liability as under the Hague Rules . If risk doesn t pass at the
beginning of the loading, when does it then pass? Is it when the goods move across the rail or when
goods are loaded onboard? Devlin J pointed out in Pyrene thus; The division of loading into two parts
are suited to more antiquated methods of loading than are now generally adopted and the ship s rail
has lost much of its nineteenth century significance. Only the most enthusiastic lawyer could watch
with satisfaction the spectacle of liablities shifting uneasily as the cargo sways at the end of a derrick
across a notional perpendicular projecting from the ship s rail
He went further to hold that parties were free to define their obligations as regards loading ; and that in
the case before him the carrier s had obligations which began

The Differences Between Legalism And Confucianism
Q: Han Fei Zi was known for synthesizing and refining the legalist theories and practices that had
been developed before him. Explain his views on law, statecraft and power. Comment on the
fundamental differences between Legalism and Confucianism.
Han Fei Tzu:
Legalism, is an ancient Chinese philosophy concerned with the art of rulership and the stability of the
state. Along with hundreds of other philosophical schools, legalism emerged during the Warring States
Period (453 422 BC), a time of intense political and intellectual turmoil. Unlike other schools of
thought, legalism defined the strength of the state, through a system of punishments and rewards,
propagated by common laws. Neither concerning itself with Confucian idealization of the past, or the
morality of man, legalisms pragmatic system of governance, as best defined by Han Fei Zi, ended the
hundreds of years of warfare and unified China. As aforementioned, Legalism was at the forefront of
philosophical discourse during the Warring States Period. The Warring States Period was a time of
both immense growth and conflict, as the remaining seven states fought over the dominance of China.
Although through much of the Warring States Period, the Zhou Dynasty claimed dominance over
China, by the end of the two hundred and twenty five year long period, the Kingdom of Qin emerged
victorious. While much of the Warring States Period consisted of warfare, the era also saw the spread
of philosophical ideas throughout

Morphing Of The 1996 Child Pornography Prevention Act

At issue before the Circuit Courts has been the constitutionality of the 1996 Child Pornography
Prevention Act (CPPA) in which Congress sought to modernize federal law by enhancing its ability to
combat child pornography in the cyberspace era(Free Speech). There is a split in the circuit courts
regarding this bill, and this essay will address the discrepancy.
This piece of legislation classifies an image that appears to be or conveys the impression of a minor

Hilton, that the CPPA s definition of child pornography withstands constitutional scrutiny. The First
Circuit found itself firmly satisfied that it is well within Congress s power to regulate virtual
pornography of minors of all ages. (United)
The Ninth Circuit recognized there is a compelling interest in banning child pornography but stated
that the U.S. Supreme Court in Ferber implicitly rejected the regulation of pornography that does not
involve minors. Where the Ninth Circuit had hinged its ruling on the existence of an actual live child,
the First Circuit instead focused upon the social ills of the pornography itself.
The First Circuit explained that The government s interest in addressing these forms of child
pornography is no less powerful than in instances where an actual child is used and abused during the
production process. We will not second guess Congress s decision to address the social ills posed by
the various types of virtual child pornography. (United)
Along the same lines, the Eleventh Circuit, in United States v. Acheson, centered it s decision around
the Congressional purpose for enactment of CPPA the harmful effects of the child

Dbq Queen Elizabeth 1
Queen Elizabeth s reign lasted from 1558 1603 during the Protestant Reformation, the Counter
Reformation, and the Renaissance (when it was brought to England). She achieved major successes
and established a stabilized nation during her reign. When she assumes the throne, after the death of
her half sister, Queen Mary I, she faced many challenges, such as the bankruptcy of England,
European powers that were trying to reestablish Catholicism, such as Spain and France, and negative
criticism denouncing her as a ruler and as the head of the Church of England. It was against church
teaching and Bible teachings, for any woman to rule over a country. Elizabeth I inherited the

In her speech to Parliament in 1559, she claims that she has already been married to England
(Document 7). This means that she will take care of England like a dutiful wife would care for her

explain the legacy of Queen Elizabeth, and how great of a ruler she was despite being a woman.
Another response to views on women in leadership was the execution of her cousin Mary, Queen of
Scots, due to the threat Elizabeth felt from Mary in an attempt of assassination. This shows how
Elizabeth is able to make the most difficult decisions, which is a skill required to have when ruling
over a nation. One must also note that women were viewed as weak emotional human beings. But
Elizabeth showed that she was not weak by executing her family member and thus, shows her sense of
duty to her kingdom. Another example of a positive response was at the start of her reign, when
England was on the verge of bankruptcy, due to the financial destruction caused by the previous Tudor
reigns. Nonetheless, she managed to make England debt free, proving that she had the capability of
dealing with difficult monetary tasks and therefore, responded to the opinions of women not being
able to rule successfully. Finally, before the invasion of the

Daoist Sage Themes
Daoism is one of the main philosophical traditions in China and the East. Daoism uses nature as a
guide to understand the way to live and by using common themes like the Yin and Yang and The One
or better known as the child, the Daoist Sage reflects a harmonised way of living. These two themes
from chapters stated above help identify the meaning of Daoism, and what this way of living reflects.
Laozi and the Dao de Jing reflect the Yin and Yang throughout the book, although chapter 28 delves
further into the idea of the Yin and Yang through the representation of female and male.

ideas that there is a balance of both black and white in this symbol representing balance reflect the

Chapter 28 also involves the power of inclusivity instead of dividing the way of the cultivating order,
which can signify the idea of the Yin and Yang symbol of balance.

Evaluation Of A Field Supervisor
Situation My day was planned so I thought, I was scheduled to go out with my mentor, Francis. We
had a full day planned with the possibility of me making a school contact alone. My field supervisor,
Stephanie and I were having our usual morning chat when we were approached by foster care worker,
Ms. Williams. She wanted me to supervise some parenting time, so she could attend court. I had
supervised parenting time before and I will admit it is not the most exciting thing to do. Parenting time
can last up to 4 hours requiring you to sit at the room door and monitor the parent s interactions with
their children. Although it can be quite daunting, I do however understand the importance of this
family time. I was immediately put on the spot and I really wanted to say no to supervising this time
for her. I also did not want to be uncooperative or not a team player in the presence of my field
supervisor.

me how the supervising time went and thanked me for helping out in a time of need. I expressed to her
that I was proud of myself for taking responsibility for the entire visit and managing some quite

What Is The Role Of Broadcasting In ABC Sports
Once again ABC sports was at the forefront of sports broadcasting. However, this time it was sports
that was bringing live news to the world. During game 3 of the 1989 World Series an earthquake in
San Francisco shocked the sports world and the entire country. ESPN had a generator in its center

happening in San Francisco at the time, because the city experienced a huge blackout. The Goodyear
Blimp, which ABC hired, gave aerial shots of the ballpark and surrounding city to those watching the
game around the country (Keown). ESPN changed from being a sports station to a news station that
was relaying information to millions across the country. ESPN and ABC knew that they had to change
gears from sports broadcasting to news. They need to stay on the air and continue to report live

Why Is Honor Important In Beowulf
Honor, something powerful enough to sculpt the world s oldest and most powerful empires.
Throughout history great empires such as China, Japan, and the Anglo Saxons have fought and died in
the hunt for honor and fame; bringing life to many great and powerful heroes. Beowulf, one such hero,
who fought many great battle in the name of honor and fame; putting his all into each battle he
encountered. In the epic Beowulf, Beowulf decides to help Hrothgar with the dreaded monster
Grendel and then battling him bare handed. Throughout the epic of Beowulf, Beowulf is mainly

Then he stepped to another/ Still body. Clutched at Beowulf with his claws, / Grasped at a strong
hearted wakeful sleeper/ And was instantly seized himself, claws/ Bent back as Beowulf leaned up on
one arm (lines 320 324). Beowulf s quest to prove his honor reaches its peak here, after showing
respect to the horrid monster who kills men in the least honorable way: in their sleep. For a man of
great strength and so eager to prove his power; to help others in need without first being inquired on
the job. Beowulf is truly a hero worthy of such tales as his, such an honorable man that poets have
spoken his name and his story for hundreds of generations. Helping the once great Hrothgar,
Defeating the monstrous Grendel, and proclaiming his everlasting honor are all reasons Beowulf
earned and preserved his everlasting honor. Honor can corrupt the strongest minded of men, but not in
the case of Beowulf. Beowulf used his greed for honor and fame to better himself and improve the
reputation of his namesake. He proved himself time and time again through countless quests and
deeds, spreading his name across the lands. Due to Beowulf s

My Slave Narrative
When I was young I was a slave. It was a part of my life that I prefer not to flashback to because of the
horrors it brings me back to. One day, at our family reunion at the Chesapeake Bay my great
grandchildren, came up to me begging for stories. Since I had always been so private about my past, I
felt that it was a good time for my family to learn about my past life as a slave. Come here young
ones, I shouted, Would you guys like to learn about my former life as a slave? Yes! they kids shouted
as they ran over to my rocking chair. My oldest great granddaughter, Ethel, was the first at the rocking
chair and she asked, Grandmother, can you tell us about your wedding? That s a great story, Ethel, one
of my few fond memories as a slave. To start off, I met Frank in the cookhouse while I was gathering
food to bring back to our master s house. He and I were both house servants. My heart stopped when
first saw him and I thought he was the most handsome man I had ever seen. On the outside, he was a
strong, tough man, but on the inside, I felt that he would be caring and sweet. Later that night, after I
had finished my work we met again in the cookhouse. Instantly, we fell for each other and our
marriage ceremony was performed two months later. What happened at your wedding? Ethel asked.
Frank and I had a fairly traditional slave ceremony. As house servants, we were about to have a formal

conversations about George Washington and the Revolutionary War. Thanks to you and your quest for
knowledge, I have done research on the great general and am happy to pass along my findings to you.
Leading up to the Revolutionary War the colonists were thriving in America. Tobacco was a major
export, and America was making a name on its own globally. There was growing resentment toward
Great Britain over taxes and lack of representation for the colonists. First in war, first in peace, and
first in the hearts of his countrymen. (1) This is the memorial to George Washington by the U.S.
Congress at the time of his death. These words were to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(2) After years of military service, Washington became a good field general, but his understanding of
the political and economic issues related to military power was equally important. He knew his army s
success was dependent on the support of the government. He faced shortages of men, weapons, and
other supplies. His troops would go for long periods without pay. Washington followed congress s will
without defying them, and did not use his popularity to gain the people s support when congress didn t
vote his way. He was challenged with maintaining his troops loyalty to him, the civilian authority, and
the rule of law. During the Revolutionary War, Washington had to deal with mutinies by his troops,
ignore suggestions that he become king, and to stop officers from overthrowing or abandoning the
civil authorities. Washington s ability to handle the challenges off the battlefield made the defeat of the
British possible. (2) Another leadership skill was his good understanding of the geographic factors
affecting the use of military power. He was aware of the surroundings and did not let his troops get
backed into a corner with no way to retreat. (2) He was also aware of his troops inability to protect
specific locations and cities against superior British forces. He began using mobile posts that were less
vulnerable and more effective. Washington also understood the important role of the naval power

Sherlock Holmes Is A Hero Analysis
Sherlock Holmes is no hero In most stories, the protagonists are celebrated by the readers and their
questionable actions are excused. There is no hero like the intelligent Sherlock Holmes, who solves
crimes with the power of deduction. However, what if Sherlock was not a good person, like they lead
you to believe? His will to do inhumane things without a second thought, how he likes mocking others
and him letting others suffer suggest he isn t the hero the Sherlock Holmes series needs. Sherlock
Holmes will kill to finish a case. In The Speckled Band, Sherlock viciously attacks a highly venomous
snake to get it to turn on its master, Dr.Roylott. He admits himself that, In this way I am no doubt
indirectly responsible for Dr. Grimesby Roylott s death, and I cannot say that it is likely to weigh very
heavily upon my conscience. (28). Not only did he just admit that he is responsible for having killed a
man,he also admits that he does not feel bad. In Sherlock s defense, Roylott wasn t a nice guy and he
had it coming. However, he has no excuse for his actions in The Adventure of Charles Augustus
Milverton. Sherlock pretends to be engaged to a maid at Charles s house to get info on Augustus so he
can break into his house and steal the love letters (7). Thus Sherlock pretends to love someone then
after that person is not needed he just leaves the poor woman heartbroken? When Sherlock discusses
his plans to break into Charles s house to Watson he says [...] I mean to burgle Milverton house to

The United States government is the largest single purchaser of goods and services in the world. Even
during times of economic hardship, the US continues to dump billions into the private sector. The
federal procurement spending rate of growth has surpassed the rate of U.S. inflation every year, since
2000. With annual federal procurement budgets of more than $400 billion, it is no surprise that the
competition for government contracts has increased tremendously. Consequently, more and more

With the exception of those instances outlined in FAR 16.505(b) (4), these kinds of protests should be
delivered to the agency s task and delivery order ombudsman (Nacke Ralston 2011).
The agency level protest process is started when the contractor delivers the written protest to the
contracting officer or other delegated representative. The protest should include the name and contact
information of the contractor, the solicitation or contract number, a statement which requests a ruling
and provides a detailed description of the reasons for the protest, back up documentation, and the
contractor s requested relief. Within the statement, the contractor must also provide documentation to
show that they qualify as an interested person and that the protest was submitted within the timeframe
requested (Nacke Ralston 2011).
The remaining procedure will vary from one agency to another. These will also determine who is
assigned to review the dispute; the contracting officer, ombudsman or by an independent decision
authority who ranks higher than the contracting officer. If the dispute is reviewed by the contracting
officer, they are required to prepare a report to be reviewed by the agency appellate. The FAR does not
require the agency to draft a report addressing the dispute however, some agencies require this through

Three Ohmic Contact Metallization Schemes
Abstract:
Three ohmic contact metallization schemes to n type GaN (n GaN) namely Ti/Al/Ni/Au, Ti/Al/Mo/Au
and Ti/Al/Re/Au are compared with respect to their contact resistance, root mean square values of
surface roughness, annealing temperature and the mechanism of ohmic contact formation.
Introduction:
Gallium nitride (GaN) is a binary III/V direct bandgap semiconductor with a bandgap of 3.4 eV
commonly used in light emitting diodes since the 1990s. GaN has a low sensitivity to ionizing
radiation which makes it a suitable material for solar panels on satellites. Various military and space
application also benefit from the usage if this radiation hardened material. Besides the wide bandgap,
high breakdown field and high saturation velocity of GaN make it very promising for high power,
high speed and high temperature electronic devices. GaN devices offer five key characteristics: high
dielectric strength, high operating temperature, high current density, high speed switching and low on
resistance. These characteristics are due to the properties of GaN, which, compared to silicon, offers
ten times higher electrical breakdown characteristics, three times the bandgap, and exceptional carrier
mobility. Low resistance Ohmic contacts with a smooth morphology, and good edge acuity and
thermal stability are imperative in the successful implementation of all these devices, particularly high
power devices which require high power conversion efficiency and heat management. The

Machiavelli And Love
Friedrich Nietzsche s The Gay Science uses definitions and descriptions to compare love and greed
and ultimately argue that love is often merely another name for greed. He contrasts love as having a
positive connotation, whereas greed holds a negative one. But upon defining each and showing
examples of love, he calls into question if the love of neighbors and love of truth and knowledge are
not just another craving for possession. This desire for what is new is compared using the description
of one s desire to travel to more beautiful places after living somewhere new for even just three
months. Nietzsche suggests that such an unsatisfied spirit is one of greed because the person
constantly wants to possess what he or she does not already ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This is different from Nietzsche s approach because he does not employ definitions and descriptions
as much, but rather compares the degrees of severity in the effects of both love and fear. Machiavelli
begins by noting that love is held by the tie of obligation and thus one may break that bond if he or she
faces difficulty or has a personal interest. This is then compared with fear which is bound by the
apprehension of punishment and is, therefore, a reliable relationship. Machiavelli compares these two
examples of cause and effect to emphasize that in the context of an army, it is better to be feared than
loved. His use of rhetoric here makes the reader consider the outcome of different war scenarios if the
leader is not feared. He proposes that an army that loves its commander may fall apart due to the frail
and fickle nature of man when in the heat of battle. This is then compared to a commander who has
instilled a healthy fear in his army and, as a result, has remained victorious and united in the face of
war. By using these techniques, he effectively argues that the impacts of being feared are far better
than those of being loved. This method of comparison is different from Nietzsche s because
Machiavelli assumes the definitions of his terms and goes right ahead to showing causes and effects of
love and fear. Nietzsche

Erik Erikson s Stages Of Human Development
Erik Erikson is most famously known for his eight stages of human development. As a former student
of Freud, Erikson was interested in the going ons of early childhood development and what the
outcomes can be. With such an interest came his eight stages, each with a positive outcome and a
negative outcome, depending on the environment in which the individual develops. The first five
stages are the ones that are dependent a lot on how a parent reacts with their child, considering it
covers the first 18 year of life. The first five stages are the ones which will be discussed concerning
baby Jude. Jude was born 7 pounds 3 ounces on August 4 2019. At the beginning of his life, Jude will
begin to either develop trust or mistrust, the first stage of Erikson s development. This stage occurs
during the first year of life when Jude has needs that he has to rely on his parents for. When Jude cries,
he must be cared to to see if he needs feeding, changing, or simply to be held. Should his parents
attend to his needs in a timely and consistent manner, Jude will develop trust and begin to take that
trust into future relationships and situations, trusting that things will be okay. If Jude is left to cry
himself to sleep time and again and doesn t get the care or attention he needs, Jude will develop

Interview With John Nash
After spending a week with John Nash, I may have stumbled upon a central purpose of my life. Well,
not nobel Laureate John nash himself, but whenever I describe Fred, their characteristics seem quite
parallel. Fred is unique, possessing an indomitable spirit to fulfill his dreams without fear of failure.
not only is he the most brilliant young man I have ever met, he exhibits a genuinely compassionate
heart. Sadly, many people may never recognize Fred as the beautiful individual that he is, or what he
has to offer. While our society may call him chal lenged, I have come to recognize him as an
unexpected role model. For Fred, you see, is autistic. He does not interact well with people, and is
often unable to express his thoughts clearly or articulately. He doesn t understand why people laugh at
him. Yet even so, Fred is blessed with an acute sense of purpose and ... Show more content on

growing up in a dysfunctional home, he suffered from a lack of love and patient understanding. Still,
Fred s life revolved around his relationships and mathematics. Although he has few close friends,
people are indescribably important to him, and he always treated them with sensitivity and
compassion. Unfortunately, some people including but not limited to his peers (who can sometimes be
quite cruel) are unable to set aside their prejudices long enough to see his unique ness as the incredible
gift that it is. His enthusiasm and his indomitable spirit in the face of adversity taught me valuable
lessons lessons I will carry with me for the rest of my life. He taught me to live for what you truly
cherish, to be passionate about your dreams, and to always smile in both the service of others and
adversity. He has shown me the truest meaning of love for others, and the ability to understand and
always live for what is important. A trip that started with me taking care of him turned into a trip of
substantial personal

The Issue Of Abortion On The United States Essay
The topic I have selected to write about in this research paper is the issue of Abortion, My thesis in
this paper is to analyze the history of abortion in the United States prior to the Roe vs. Wade decision
and afterwards, and to demonstrate the ways in which our two major political parties views on this
issue have shifted over time along with the public s view on the issue. Abortion has been practiced for
most of human history. The ancient Greeks and Romans practiced it, although not all ancient thinkers
had the same views on abortion. Ancient Greek father of medicine (Britannica) Hippocrates was
against the procedure; in the Hippocratic Oath doctors had to swear, To not give a woman an abortive
remedy. (University of Virginia) Ancient Greek thinker Aristotle believed that fetuses gained a soul 40
days after conception for male fetuses, and 90 days after conception for female fetuses, a process of
which he termed ensoulment (BBC) The Bible is inexplicably quiet on the issue.(BBC) Jesus said
nothing about the practice of abortion neither did the apostles; It is through early Christian writings
such as The Didache (Ante Nicene Fathers, Vol. 7.) that abortion was inexplicably condemned by the
fledgling Christian Church and in turn all of Christendom. Between the 5th and 16 century views on
abortion changed as abortion came to gradually become acceptable as long as it was performed before

College Is A Waste Of Time
As the cost of college has been rapidly increasing, many have become discontented with paying
unreasonable costs yet receiving few of the promised benefits. As evident in various statistics and
studies, the value of college has been overestimated. Scientifically and logistically speaking, the
pursuit of higher education is simply not a necessity. Dale Stephens article College is a Waste of Time
highlights the key issues and flaws of the college system. The article claims 36% of college graduates
showed no improvement in critical thinking, complex reasoning, or writing after 4 years of college
(Stephens). These essential skills are lacking in college graduates, which causes difficulty for
graduates as apply for jobs and enter the workforce.

  • 2. The Importance Of Perseverance In Rita Hayworth And The... Perseverance, the motivation of doing something that consists of difficult objectives or something can set back the main course of achieving a task. A novella about two convicted inmates and how one gutsy inmate named Andy Dufresne escapes the Shawshank Prison. His buddy Red had run alongside his decision and helped him through it, even though Red was the only one in the prison to truthfully admit that Andy did not do it. Andy did not kill his wife and her lover. Elwood Blatch had committed the crime. Elwood was a former cellmate of Tommy Williams in another prison, and Elwood would like to brag about such crimes he committed and Tommy was present at the time of his confession. So Tommy then later informed Andy about it in the Shawshank State Prison. In Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption wrote by Stephen King , the main focus is perseverance. Perseverance is present in this novella, and present in most of the characters. Their motivation and determination thrown towards a goal that might be far fetched, but in time can be attained. The two characters that had maintained perseverance throughout the novella were, Andy Dufresne and Red. Then I will put in my own take on perseverance. Andy Dufresne, his time at the Shawshank prison had most indefinitely affected all the inmates and guards in the prison, Andy was sent to prison for the murder of his wife, Linda, and her lover, Glenn Quentin. Although there is a twist to this scenario, despite the fact that Dufresne ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rip, much like America during this period, was having trouble finding his identity throughout the story and he finally finds it at the end of the story when his daughter finds him and takes him home to live with her. Now Rip can enjoy his freedom, just like America is able to enjoy her freedom (Pierce). Washington Irving also included mythical, supernatural, and Gothic elements into his short story of Rip Van Winkle. We first begin to see this when describing the mountains, he says produces some change in the magical hues and shapes of these mountains (Irving) and in the same paragraph when he is describing the mountains he says, at the foot of these fairy mountains (Irving). This is the first glimpse that we have of these elements in the story. Irving When Rip hears his name being echoed in the woods but can see nothing but a crow winging its solitary flight across the mountain, (Irving, Rip Van Winkle) Irving touches on the supernatural being in the woods also. The crow is crucial in the story because a crow represents the arrival of a trickster in narrative literature. While Rip s name is being called out for the second time, Wolf bristled up his back, and giving a low growl, skulked to his master s side, looking fearfully down the glen (Irving, Rip Van Winkle) which gives us the sense that even his dog felt uneasy about what was going on and that Rip should ... This paper will discuss the thought process behind the rejection of instruments, explaining; why those who favored it chose to keep peace, why it was seen as impure worship to those who rejected it, and why it was not ordained according to positive law. During the Stone Campbell movement, music was a strict topic because of its significant in worship to God. (Campbell 1865, 187) This claim is unsubstantiated, therefore the entire argument is fallacious. When a church of Disciples of Christ played its first instrument (a melodeon) in worship, it caused huge controversy. An elder of the church removed it from the church one night and sold it because he saw it as unscriptural. A man named Huldrych Zwingli who was a well known instrumentalists, also rejected instrumental music and banned all playing of organs in worship. A woman named Louise Hockday, along with many other members, pushed to have the organ torn out and sold. But as a vote was made, the organ was decided to stay and members who opposed left. This damage in question occurred prior to the tender crossing the rail and the question that arose was whether the shipowner was entitled to limit his liability as under the Hague Rules . Along with hundreds of other philosophical schools, legalism emerged during the Warring States Period (453 422 BC), a time of intense political and intellectual turmoil. Another response to views on women in leadership was the execution of her cousin Mary, Queen of Scots, due to the threat Elizabeth felt from Mary in an attempt of assassination. This shows how Elizabeth is able to make the most difficult decisions, which is a skill required to have when ruling over a nation. One must also note that women were viewed as weak emotional human beings. But Elizabeth showed that she was not weak by executing her family member and thus, shows her sense of duty to her kingdom. It is better then that I should died and know no more of anything. (246 249) (4). • 32. Sherlock Holmes Is A Hero Analysis Sherlock Holmes is no hero In most stories, the protagonists are celebrated by the readers and their questionable actions are excused. There is no hero like the intelligent Sherlock Holmes, who solves crimes with the power of deduction. However, what if Sherlock was not a good person, like they lead you to believe? His will to do inhumane things without a second thought, how he likes mocking others and him letting others suffer suggest he isn t the hero the Sherlock Holmes series needs. Sherlock Holmes will kill to finish a case. In The Speckled Band, Sherlock viciously attacks a highly venomous snake to get it to turn on its master, Dr.Roylott. He admits himself that, In this way I am no doubt indirectly responsible for Dr. Grimesby Roylott s death, and I cannot say that it is likely to weigh very heavily upon my conscience. (28). Not only did he just admit that he is responsible for having killed a man,he also admits that he does not feel bad. In Sherlock s defense, Roylott wasn t a nice guy and he had it coming. However, he has no excuse for his actions in The Adventure of Charles Augustus Milverton. Sherlock pretends to be engaged to a maid at Charles s house to get info on Augustus so he can break into his house and steal the love letters (7). Thus Sherlock pretends to love someone then after that person is not needed he just leaves the poor woman heartbroken? When Sherlock discusses his plans to break into Charles s house to Watson he says [...] I mean to burgle Milverton house to night. Watson replies For heaven s sake, Holmes, think what you are doing (8). So even his best and only friend Watson is reluctant to follow him. They then witnessed Charles s murder but they do not do anything about it (16). Clearly Sherlock is not a good man. They say knowledge is power. • 33. Gao Protest vs. Agency-Level Protest GAO Protest vs. Agency Level Protest Introduction The United States government is the largest single purchaser of goods and services in the world. Even during times of economic hardship, the US continues to dump billions into the private sector. The federal procurement spending rate of growth has surpassed the rate of U.S. inflation every year, since 2000. With annual federal procurement budgets of more than $400 billion, it is no surprise that the competition for government contracts has increased tremendously. Consequently, more and more companies are trying to get a piece of the action. When these companies adhere to all of the required regulations and statutes, they expect their proposals to be evaluated and the contract awarded in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the exception of those instances outlined in FAR 16.505(b) (4), these kinds of protests should be delivered to the agency s task and delivery order ombudsman (Nacke Ralston 2011). The agency level protest process is started when the contractor delivers the written protest to the contracting officer or other delegated representative. The protest should include the name and contact information of the contractor, the solicitation or contract number, a statement which requests a ruling and provides a detailed description of the reasons for the protest, back up documentation, and the contractor s requested relief. Within the statement, the contractor must also provide documentation to show that they qualify as an interested person and that the protest was submitted within the timeframe requested (Nacke Ralston 2011). The remaining procedure will vary from one agency to another. These will also determine who is assigned to review the dispute; the contracting officer, ombudsman or by an independent decision authority who ranks higher than the contracting officer. If the dispute is reviewed by the contracting officer, they are required to prepare a report to be reviewed by the agency appellate. The FAR does not require the agency to draft a report addressing the dispute however, some agencies require this through their internal protest ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Three Ohmic Contact Metallization Schemes Abstract: Three ohmic contact metallization schemes to n type GaN (n GaN) namely Ti/Al/Ni/Au, Ti/Al/Mo/Au and Ti/Al/Re/Au are compared with respect to their contact resistance, root mean square values of surface roughness, annealing temperature and the mechanism of ohmic contact formation. Introduction: Gallium nitride (GaN) is a binary III/V direct bandgap semiconductor with a bandgap of 3.4 eV commonly used in light emitting diodes since the 1990s. GaN has a low sensitivity to ionizing radiation which makes it a suitable material for solar panels on satellites. Various military and space application also benefit from the usage if this radiation hardened material. Besides the wide bandgap, high breakdown field and high saturation velocity of GaN make it very promising for high power, high speed and high temperature electronic devices. GaN devices offer five key characteristics: high dielectric strength, high operating temperature, high current density, high speed switching and low on resistance. These characteristics are due to the properties of GaN, which, compared to silicon, offers ten times higher electrical breakdown characteristics, three times the bandgap, and exceptional carrier mobility. Low resistance Ohmic contacts with a smooth morphology, and good edge acuity and thermal stability are imperative in the successful implementation of all these devices, particularly high power devices which require high power conversion efficiency and heat management. • 35. Machiavelli And Love Friedrich Nietzsche s The Gay Science uses definitions and descriptions to compare love and greed and ultimately argue that love is often merely another name for greed. He contrasts love as having a positive connotation, whereas greed holds a negative one. But upon defining each and showing examples of love, he calls into question if the love of neighbors and love of truth and knowledge are not just another craving for possession. This desire for what is new is compared using the description of one s desire to travel to more beautiful places after living somewhere new for even just three months. Nietzsche suggests that such an unsatisfied spirit is one of greed because the person constantly wants to possess what he or she does not already ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is different from Nietzsche s approach because he does not employ definitions and descriptions as much, but rather compares the degrees of severity in the effects of both love and fear. Machiavelli begins by noting that love is held by the tie of obligation and thus one may break that bond if he or she faces difficulty or has a personal interest. This is then compared with fear which is bound by the apprehension of punishment and is, therefore, a reliable relationship. Machiavelli compares these two examples of cause and effect to emphasize that in the context of an army, it is better to be feared than loved. His use of rhetoric here makes the reader consider the outcome of different war scenarios if the leader is not feared. He proposes that an army that loves its commander may fall apart due to the frail and fickle nature of man when in the heat of battle. This is then compared to a commander who has instilled a healthy fear in his army and, as a result, has remained victorious and united in the face of war. By using these techniques, he effectively argues that the impacts of being feared are far better than those of being loved. This method of comparison is different from Nietzsche s because Machiavelli assumes the definitions of his terms and goes right ahead to showing causes and effects of love and fear. Nietzsche ... As a former student of Freud, Erikson was interested in the going ons of early childhood development and what the outcomes can be. With such an interest came his eight stages, each with a positive outcome and a negative outcome, depending on the environment in which the individual develops. The first five stages are the ones that are dependent a lot on how a parent reacts with their child, considering it covers the first 18 year of life. The first five stages are the ones which will be discussed concerning baby Jude. Jude was born 7 pounds 3 ounces on August 4 2019. At the beginning of his life, Jude will begin to either develop trust or mistrust, the first stage of Erikson s development. This stage occurs during the first year of life when Jude has needs that he has to rely on his parents for. When Jude cries, he must be cared to to see if he needs feeding, changing, or simply to be held. Should his parents attend to his needs in a timely and consistent manner, Jude will develop trust and begin to take that trust into future relationships and situations, trusting that things will be okay. If Jude is left to cry himself to sleep time and again and doesn t get the care or attention he needs, Jude will develop mistrust, which will lead to fear in future relationships and endeavors. This first stage is a crucial stage to set up because without this as a foundation, Jude cannot continue to grow in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. The Issue Of Abortion On The United States Essay The topic I have selected to write about in this research paper is the issue of Abortion, My thesis in this paper is to analyze the history of abortion in the United States prior to the Roe vs. Wade decision and afterwards, and to demonstrate the ways in which our two major political parties views on this issue have shifted over time along with the public s view on the issue. Abortion has been practiced for most of human history. The ancient Greeks and Romans practiced it, although not all ancient thinkers had the same views on abortion. Ancient Greek father of medicine (Britannica) Hippocrates was against the procedure; in the Hippocratic Oath doctors had to swear, To not give a woman an abortive remedy. (University of Virginia) Ancient Greek thinker Aristotle believed that fetuses gained a soul 40 days after conception for male fetuses, and 90 days after conception for female fetuses, a process of which he termed ensoulment (BBC) The Bible is inexplicably quiet on the issue.(BBC) Jesus said nothing about the practice of abortion neither did the apostles; It is through early Christian writings such as The Didache (Ante Nicene Fathers, Vol. 7.) that abortion was inexplicably condemned by the fledgling Christian Church and in turn all of Christendom. Between the 5th and 16 century views on abortion changed as abortion came to gradually become acceptable as long as it was performed before The Quickening which was a term for when the mother first felt the child ...
