Should Whistleblowers Be Protected
12/6/14
Should Whistleblowers Be Protected? * Introduction
The corruption rate in a community that does not support or protect reporting illegal activities is
significantly high. Employees who work in public or private organizations are the first to identify
wrongdoings in a workplace since they have up to date information. Whistleblowing can be an
essential tool to identify and report these actions in the public, private and non profit sectors.
However, by revealing wrongdoings, whistleblowers often take high personal risks. Lacking strong
legal protection might increase the change of facing dismissal, harassment and other forms of
retaliation ( Whistleblower protection , 2012).
Whistleblower protection is vital to motivate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
* The False Claims Act
During the civil war, the False Claims Act (FCA) was passed to prevent the fraud committed by
companies that were selling supplies to the Union Army. The Act contained qui tam provisions which
authorized citizens to speak out against those deceiving companies. The public awareness of the FCA
has been growing since the passage of the 1986 amendments. The number of whistleblowers cases
that were filed has grown significantly to more than 6,000 cases in 2014 (Kusserow, 2014).
The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has reported in 2013 that it has secured about $3.8 billion from
civil cases that involve fraud against the government. More than 70 percent of the recoveries, which
translated to $2.9 billion, were from lawsuits filed under the qui tam provision of the law. This
significant amount of recovery was the second largest annual recovery and fourth year in a row which
the DOJ has recuperated. Through this process, over $17 billion has been recovered since January
2009. This number is nearly half of the total amount of money that was recovered since the Act was
amended in 1986. Whistleblowers or the qui tam provisions which permit individuals to blow the
whistle was the main cause of the spectacular amount of recovery (Kusserow, 2014).
When the government succeed in winning the case, the whistleblower receives up to 30 percent of the

The word Measurement is an often used term in the field of mathematics, science, technology,
quantitative research and many more other disciplines. Measurement can simply be understood as the
process of measuring, quantifying or estimating something in monetary terms. The most commonly
measurement units used in general are kilogram, metre, candela, mole, second, ampere and kelvin.
However, in accounting field measurement has its own specific definition which means that it is a
process of determining the monetary amounts by recognising the elements of the financial statements
and carrying them in the income statement and balance sheet. In the presentation, I described about
the measurement definition, mixed measurement model, advantages and disadvantages of
measurement models, identification of different measurement models, brief definition of the models
historical cost, current cost, fair value, present value and deprival value, explanation of the principles
of measurement and also I used the examples of the biological assets to provide information on how
measurement model are selected to measure the assets or liabilities. Before selecting a measurement
model for the assets/liabilities, various considerations are adopted like focussing on advantages or
disadvantages of the model, its

BHP Billiton describes itself as the world s largest mining company having 38,000 employees

The New Year Essay
The New Year is upon us once again, ready or not. This holiday seems to me the one that provokes the
most thought and reflection, which is a good thing really. We all need to assess where we are in our
journey of life and make adjustments. For the Christian, this is especially important. Ephesians 5:1 2
reminds us to Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as
Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. The past year
has been a great learning year for me in the area of relationships. I ve learned a lot about myself,
others, and especially about how much God loves ME! Some of what I learned was very disappointing
as I saw so much selfishness in relationships. I know that I am guilty of it too sometimes, but I just
recognized it more, and saw the repercussions many times. Those consequences are painful and the
effects are trickle down. It has made me really think about Love a lot more and how Love as God
intended it to be should be evident in our lives ALWAYS, and not just when it s convenient for us.
God spoke to me about His Love through my dog, Tracker. Yep, this is the Tracker story that I ve been
meaning to put out there. This isn t exactly how I thought I d convey it to everyone but as time has
passed and I think about it even more, I know without a doubt that the truth that God impressed upon
me that night is what is most important about the story. Tracker is an

The Learning And Teaching Strategies
Many great learning and teaching strategies are presented in the text, How we learn... of which a few
learning tactics, namely discrimination, perceptual learning, chunking and interleaving will be briefly
discussed as to how they have relevance in my context. To begin we will examine discrimination, the
brain s ability to detect minute differences in sights, sounds and textures. [Such is considered]...one of
the first steps we take in making sense of the world (Carey, 2012, p.180). This learning technique
occurs often during HT training as students detect differences in breathing patterns of those being
treated, l see slight tremors or body twitches that accompanies release of stagnate energy and
perceived smoothness of textures in the human energy field (Mentgen Bulbrook, 2011). Next,
perceptual learning occurs as the brain takes notice of subtle differences in techniques, such as hand
positions that seem the same but may not have the same therapeutic effect. Another learning strategy
that can be useful in HT training is chunking which is the simple act of grouping bits and pieces of
information together to make a whole (or at minimal a segment) of a concept. For example words
stringed together create sentences and sentences which are connected formulate paragraph. In the case
of HT chunking is necessary as a series of hand movements and/or places equate to a specific healing
technique. The final relevant strategy from the text is that if interleaving, a cognitive science

Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close Personal Quotes
September 11, 2001, was an unforgettable day that changed America forever. Thousands of lives were
lost in this tragedy, like Oskar s father. In the beginning of Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close,
Oskar mentions the Reconnaissance Expedition he and his father used to play on Sundays. After his
dad passed away, Oskar s determination to complete expeditions remains, but now a different goal
arises: to find the lock to the key found in his father s room that will help Oskar to stop missing his
father. Even though Oskar knows his father is dead, this adventure is Oskar s way of receiving closure
and coping with the loss of his father. During his journey of finding the lock, Oskar often gets heavy
boots which is his metaphor of being burdened with emotions due to everything in his life that weighs
him down. In Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Jonathan Safran Foer s use of the motif heavy
boots throughout the novel highlights that it is normal to experience grief, but there are various ways
to do so.
Oskar spends much of his life attempting to find some restitution about the loss of his father. In the
story, Ruth tells Mr. Black and Oskar many facts about the Empire State Building in New York City:
That gave me heavy boots because it reminded me of the lock that I still hadn t found, and how until I
found it, I didn t love dad enough (Foer 251). Oskar s feeling of grief and guilt about his dad s death
bothers him; he feels in order to actually love his dad and get rid of his lament to receive closure, he
must find the lock. Due to the disappointment of discovering that the lock has no connection to his
father, Oskar has to invent closure to end feeling heavy boots by creating a fantasy world in which he
and his father are safe. The book s final pages are a flip book of photos of a man, possibly his father,
falling to his death from the World Trade Center. Oskar reverses the photos so that when you flip
them, the man falls up. He creates a fictional story in which his Dad is still alive. Even though the
quest doesn t give Oskar the closure he expected, it does help him appreciate the time he did have with
his Dad.
Furthermore, some tend to mourn by engaging in their hobbies and interests. Alice Black

The Immune System Of The Human Body
Immune System

Dr. Kimberly Snead McDaniel
South University Online
We are examining the role the immune system plays within the general day to day operation of the
human body. Further examination of the impaired immune system s profound negative impact on the
whole body system, will also be delineated. The human body has structures and processes inside the
body that defend against infection and additional harmful foreign bodies. When working
appropriately, the immune system detects a diversity of dangers, such as foreign bodies like bacteria,
viruses, and parasites, and attacks them, leaving the healthy body tissue alone. The immune system
also creates safeguards for the body to prevent disruptions of body processes by new pathogens,
traumas, and mutations. There are major components that makes up the immune system spread
throughout the body. The major organs involved in the body s immune response are the: bone marrow,
thymus, circulatory, lymphatic system, dermis and mucosal tissues that work together in varied and
complex interactions to provide the body with immune functions.
The lymphatic system produces and stores cells that helps the body battle infection and diseases. The
lymphatic system contains the following components: bone marrow, thymus, spleen, and lymph
nodes. The lymph system allows the body to move fluids and cells outside the blood and circulatory
system. The lymph system is the most important passageway

Pros And Cons Of The Nuremberg War Trial
Beverley McLachlin, the 2007 Chief Justice of Canada, once said, The most advanced justice system
in the world is a failure if it does not provide justice to the people it is meant to serve.
The Nuremberg War Trial has been considered the most significant as well as the most debatable event
in military law history. To those who support the trial it promises the first effective recognition of a
world law for the punishment of criminals who start wars or conduct inhuman acts during them. To the
opposing critics the trial appears in many aspects a denial of legal ethics which they regard as the
heart of any system of justice under law.

Most significantly, the German defendants at Nuremberg were being tried for several categories of
offense that had no precedent under international law creating ex post facto charge, meaning that the
defendants were indicted for something that was not a crime until after they had committed it. At the
time that the German officials on trial committed the various atrocities for which they were charged,
no international law specifically banned their actions. The prosecution was therefore able to construct
their charges to maximize the rate of conviction. Most national legal codes, including the law of the
United States, require that a crime must have been illegal at the time the act was committed in order to
charges to be pressed. The major focuses of the prosecution were crimes against the peace, crimes
against humanity, war crimes, organizations, and conspiracy. Of all these, only war crimes was a
clearly recognized category under pre existing international law.
War crimes jurisprudence was based on The Hague and Geneva conventions, and narrowly governed
the treatment of foreign soldiers and civilians during wartime. Technically, the only war crimes
committed by the Germans involved the treatment of Allied prisoners of war and of the populations of

The Medieval Period lasted from the 10th century to the 17th century; this was the time of castles. The

of the most magnificent structures ever built. Not only are people fascinated with their grand splendor,
but with their luminous presence of authority. Castles were not built for defense alone; they were
symbols of social status, wealth, power, and intimidation. Kings and queens were not the only people

were very lengthy and consisted of three courses. Apart from bed chambers and the great hall, the

Ectodermal Dysplasia Research Paper
In this world many things can happen. One of the most interesting things is that we can get disorders
in the womb. These disorders can be good, bad, or it doesn t change a thing. Most of these disorders
all start from a small cell that creates us all. The only thing that s different is that there was some kind
of change in genetics.
In New York, Melanie Gaydos has a very unique disorder. She was diagnosed with Ectodermal
Dysplasia. Ectodermal Dysplasia is genetic disorders affecting the development or function of the
teeth, hair, nails and sweat glands. The people that have this, have sensitive skin, hair loss, and hardly

It all started at two weeks and five days (19 days), when she inherited two copies of her father s
growth gene. This gene told her body to grow twice as big in the womb. This makes her body
overproduce a hormone of growth. This puts her at the risk of cancer because cells divide fast, which
can cause tumors. Her kidneys are most at risk, because there were abnormalities in the kidneys.
Doctors thought she might develop a tumor, but she didn t. At seven years old, she went to get her
kidney checked up and everything seemed fine. At seven years old, her growth starts to level off.
In Denver, famous basketball player, Randy Foye was diagnosed with Situs Inversus. It all started

Benefits Of Gene Therapy For Parkinson s Disease
Gene therapy for Parkinson s disease (PD) is an alternative to current pharmacologic and surgical
treatments; the former are limited by motor and non motor complication, and both by lack of
neuroprotection. Gene therapy offers a means to dominate two very different but equally significant,
long term obstacles for treating human diseases. The first, involving gene replacement, attempts to
correct a specific genetic defect linked to a major component of the disease by expressing unmutated
gene. In reality, the number of patient whose neurodegenerative disease is linked to a single genetic
mutation is quite small, so the impact of this application of gene therapy to neurology is limited.
Another goal of gene therapy is to transfer therapeutic proteins to a targeted area of the central

The age old problem with the use of proteins to treat neurodegenerative diseases is that they are large,
partially polar and often labile entities that, when injected, can aggregate, misfolded and tolerated
other changes that render them biologically ineffective or worse. Moreover more problematic for CNS
indications, they do not readily cross the blood brain barrier and, when injected directly into the brain,
do not spread significantly from the point of injection, thus reducing their exposure to the targeted

The Role Of Interventions Used By Narrative Therapist
There are various types of interventions utilized by narrative therapist. The intervention used will
depend on the therapist and the client. The following are just a few of the interventions that are at a
narrative therapist disposal.
Problem Deconstruction. Deconstructed Listening and Questions. Deconstructed listening and
questions are based on the philosophical works of Jacques Derrid, narrative therapists use this
technique to help their clients track how dominate discourses are affecting them and enable them to
choose which discourses they will allow to affect their lives (Gehart, 2014). In deconstructive
listening, the therapist listens for gaps in the client s understanding and ask them to fill in the details or
has them explain the ambiguities in their stories (Gehart, 2014, p. 408). Deconstructive questions help
the client breakdown the story to see how it was constructed in the first place and to help identify
which discourse is influencing them (Gehart, 2014).
Scaffolding Conversations. Vygotsky s zone of proximal development concept is the basis of this
intervention. This concept is based on Vygotsky s theory that learning is relational so in order for
children to learn, they need to be able to interact with the new material. This concept can also apply to
adults, especially when the task is difficult for them. The therapist will use scaffolding conversations
to move from that which is familiar to that which is novel (Gehart, 2014, p. 409). There are

Avian Bornavirus The Bornavirus was first recognized in 1885 in cavalry horses in the town of Born
in Saxony, Germany. Since then the disease has made itself known in many species including birds,
horses, cattle, sheep, dogs, and foxes. Which is how we have all the different genotypes of this
disease. In 1995 it was found in cats who have staggering diseases and in 2000 a researcher found the
Borna virus in an ostrich farm and in other wild birds. Avian Bornavirus (ABV) it is also a RNA virus

Elements Of Poetry In Ask MeBy Arakida Moritage
1. In Ask me by William Stafford (376), the element of poetry that stands out most for me is didactic
poetry. William starts with Some time when the river is ice ask me mistakes I have made. grabbing
reader s attention towards the issue he is discussing in his poem. Some people stood with him during
difficult times, some didn t ask me what difference their strongest love or hate has made. But, that
doesn t make any difference. We know the current is there, hidden; and there are comings and goings
from miles away that hold the stillness exactly before us. everyone has the potential to solve their
problems. Stafford is addressing that people solve their own problems. This makes them strong. 2. In
The falling flower by Arakida Moritake (438), the element that stands out most for in the poem is
imagery. The poem sparks the person with its set of unusual images. The poet triggers the image of a
flower falling from the tree The falling flower . And that flower flies back to the tree in the form of a
butterfly. I saw drift back to the branch Was a butterfly . Arakida is discussing the birth of a butterfly
by his vivid imagery. 3. In The Wayfarer by Stephen Crane (381), the element that stands out most for
me is tone. The tone of the poet towards this poem is judgemental. The vagabond who is choosing the
path is surprised to see the heavily grown path It was thickly grown with weeds. . It occurs to him that
one has taken this path I see that none has passed

Natural Disasters And Public Health Of The Affected...
Introduction
Natural disasters will always cause damage to the infrastructures and public health of the affected
communities. Low income countries are the most vulnerable because of a lack of preparation for
coping with the displaced population. Displaced populations of vulnerable areas are often subjected to
poor sanitation and hygiene practices and inaccessible clean water, both as effects of crowding and
being in an unfamiliar environment. It is the primary cause of communicable diseases following
natural disasters. Until recently, policy makers were widely under the misconception that disease is
spread from bodies. While it is still exaggerated in the media, the main cause of illness and death
following disasters is due to an inadequate provision of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH)
practices. Preparation by governments and foreign organizations should focus on the sanitation of
those displaced in order to address communicable diseases in the short term. Having a strong plan
before the disaster can promote sustained WASH practices after disaster recovery and improve long
term health. Governments of at risk countries often do not have the resources for integrating WASH
and disaster preparation and rely on foreign assistance. Their goal is to identify hazards and risks of
likely natural disasters, and take it into account when designing new infrastructure. Hardware like
latrines and sanitation facilities should be able to withstand the disaster or be safe to use

The Relevance of Neil Postman s Assertions in Today s Society: Huxley s Brave New World could be
considered almost prophetic by many people today. It is alarmingly obvious how modern society is
eerily similar to Huxley s novel with the constant demand for instant gratification encouraging
unnatural changes. Neil Postman, a contemporary social critic, seems to have noticed this similarity as
he has made very bold, very valid statements regarding the text and its relevance to our world today.
This statement is strongly in support of those statements and will provide both support and
counterargument in an effort to thoroughly explain why. According to Postman, Huxley feared the

In the novel, there is the same problem when Linda sleeps with the husbands of other women in an

Bernard, in an attempt to reach something he absolutely loved attention and social approval ended up
filling himself with a drug addicting enough to put his mental health in danger. Considering people

The Crystal Land Poem Meaning
The Crystal Land: Constructing and Destroying Zembla
By shifting focus to the imagery of crystal, which carries contrasting connotations from the windows
of the previous narrative, Nabokov also shifts the setting from the realm of reality to that of Kinbote s
fantasy. The delicate extravagance generally associated with crystal can be seen as a representation of
the unattainable, subjective realm both internal authors fundamentally strive for. The fact that crystal
is able to refract light due to the presence of lead also supports that as it alludes to the idea of the false
azure projected by the windowpane in Shade s poem. Furthermore, both Zembla and the ambiguous
realm Shade portrays in the first stanza of his poem are dubbed the crystal land. This continual
reflection of images from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can be seen as a parallel to his previous position of observing from a glass house ; he is
imprisoned in his rose stone palace from a corner turret of which one could make out with the help of
field glasses lithe youths (97). While the rose stone doesn t initially seem to belong to the semantic
field of glass, here Nabokov is referring to the rose quartz crystal. By using the word stone, however
he evokes the juxtaposition of nature and glass imagery from the first narrative. By synthesizing the
two symbols here, he can thus shift the meaning of crystal to act as a barrier entrapping the narrator
within his fantasy. Furthermore, by placing Kinbote in the same voyeuristic role as in the first
narrative, Nabokov is able to once again convey Kinbote s inability to transcend his fantasy due to his
dissociation from reality. In effect, by including the fantasy narrative, Nabokov has the freedom for
romanticized invention which allows him to literally imprison Kinbote in a crystal palace. This acts as
a representation of the idea of the glass house explored in the first

During the turn of the latter portion of the nineteenth century, many authors wrote literature with an
American Realism approach. An approach that gave others an in depth look at conditions happening in
the country. Charles W. Chesnutt was one of them. Chesnutt, author of The Goophered Grapevine ,

There is a power struggle of these two characters from the very beginning they are both narrating the
story. Most, if not, all, stories are given one narrator for the story the same thing goes for plays. The
northerner is not more of a narrator than that of Julius himself. This shows one of the first conflicts
that must be dealt with in the story: Who is going to be in charge because there cannot be two bosses.
In the Theatre world of terms this is called a moment of intrusion. The moment of intrusion is when a

The Effects Of Social And Emotional Development On Children
Social and Emotional is as important as physical and motor development. Physical and motor
development are much easier to observe than social and emotional development but it doe not dismiss
how important this concept is. It is through social and emotional development that a child self

of a child in school and social life. When a child is aware that he or she is separate from their
environment than they can began to process and understand the world and establish meaningful

we must keep in mind that each child is unique in his or her rate of growth and development and there
will be major milestone differences. This paper focuses on the observations of social and emotional
development in children ages 3 years to 8 years old. For my observations I picked two girls and one
boy. My first child is a little boy blonde baby with brown eyes by the name of Oliver. He was born on
January 10th, 2013 and is now 3 years old. Oliver is very energetic he loves to play outdoors. He is
very self reliant and follows instruction when asked to do a task. Oliver was observed in the three year
old classroom at the Child and Family Research Center (CFRC) on the University of Nevada, Reno

Why Is The Good Earth Relatable
Pearl S. Buck s novel, The Good Earth, has spellbound millions of readers around the globe for

course of his life. The New York times said of it, A comment on the meaning and tragedy of life as it is

people around the world? Some might say that it s the writing, or even the subject of the story. These
are both true, but there is something that impacts the story more, and that is the ability to relate. The
Good Earth is about a simple man,a peasant, someone people can relate to. This is why The Good

established their own communities of Japanese culture. The Japanese were discriminated and faced
with racial injustice. The Pearl Harbor attack was a spark for more people to hate Japanese living in

Americans to leave their homes and go to interment camps because people feared they were spies for
Japan. Most young men wanted to prove their loyalty to America and restore family honor so they

Critical Writing Review Of Hamlet
Many people equate good critical writing with very descriptive writing when that is simply not true.
Good critical writing should not just be an in depth description of a topic. Good critical writing should
include a clear presentation of your argument and your own evidence, a clear and confident refusal to
accept opposing conclusions from other critical writers, and a balanced presentation of reasons why
the conclusions of other writers may be accepted but are ultimately not correct. Many people have
written reviews about Kenneth Branagh s four hour uncut movie production of Hamlet, but I m going

provides lots of evidence, and includes and refutes opposing views. Berardinelli has written a piece
that includes only his opinion with no critical reasoning or specific evidence. Berardinelli gives
background information on Hamlet itself when talking about how legendary actors John Gielgud,
Richard Burton, and Laurence Olivier have taken the lead role (Berardinelli). He also gives
background to Branagh s connection with Hamlet and how it has been something of a private
obsession for Kenneth Branagh since the age of eleven (Berardinelli). He then goes into a lengthy

adaption of Hamlet I have ever seen, but the best cinematic expression that I have come across of any
of Shakespeare s plays (Berardinelli). Berardinelli adds evidence to support

How To Build A Traffic Jam Essay
When we start talking about traffic, the first thing that comes to our mind is road rage; however, it
would surprise you how people stay cool in this type of chaos. Gridlocks are the nightmare for any
driver. I have been driving for eight years, and I have had the opportunity to see different types of
behaviors in a traffic jam. It is surprisingly amazing how traffic jams can bring out the worst and the
best of you. Throughout my driving life, I had been stuck in heavy traffic that lasted more than four
hours, and light traffic that only lasted less than forty five minutes. However, sitting in traffic gave me
the opportunity to categorize driver s behavior such as the ass of the jungle, the monk drivers, the
snoopies and the hot head ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I totally have seen some drivers acting like a monk in traffic. The monk drivers tend not to feel
desperate, and usually they distract themselves with other activities. For example, my cousin used to
drive from Woodbridge to Alexandria when she studied at NOVA. Sometimes she used to get stuck in
rush hour traffic, and she used to read her lecture in the traffic. To be honest, I totally see that as a
smart way to spend time in traffic. Another example that shows the behavior of a monk driver is
catching up with old friends or relatives. I got stuck in a terrible traffic, and I decided to call my
grandmother. We spent two hours talking which helped me to get distracted. In hindsight it does sound
dangerous to talk on the phone while driving, but this time any car wasn t moving a bit. Also, Monk
drivers prepare a playlist before getting out from home. Listening to your favorite music can give you
a sense of tranquility. In fact, monk drivers practice a lot of equanimity, which is a mental calmness.
Overall, drivers in general should take the traffic jam with a sense of equanimity, so they can find
moments of tranquility in a chaotic traffic jam.
Moreover, we have the snoopy drivers. Being sneaky is a horrible habit that some people tend to
develop in life. As we know sneakiness is really different from curiosity. Being curious is the act to get
harmless information that can actually satisfy our knowledge. However, being sneaky is to be
interested in others

Definition And History Of Line Dancing

Many people don t know what line dancing even is! Line dancing is a form of country and western
choreographed dance where a group of people dance in a line without partners and perform repetitive

done for fun and entertainment. It is however becoming a form of performance dance as more people

James Bond Influence On American Films
Cinematically, Bond has been a major influence within the spy genre since the release of Dr. No in
1962,[190] with 22 secret agent films released in 1966 alone attempting to capitalise on the Bond

Bond was the Harry Palmer series, whose first film, The Ipcress File was released in 1965. The

Multitasking Life Lesson
Life lesson for this seminar was the Multitasking is a myth. I am not too sure how I feel about this
because I even learned about multitasking in previous courses and there are books on the importance
of multitasking. Even at the job they will say you should be able to multitask. I see the point you are
making and I see the science in it but, how exactly do we know what to believe. A typical example,
people who work at McDonald and fast food, what take orders in the drive thru, stocks the refrigerator
overhead and make coffee at the same time, what is that referred to? SPC is important because things
are not perfect in the real world and scientifically to control variation because things will not happen
just as planned. Another importance

Conflict Management
Conflict Management can often be the toughest task for a leader to handle. It involves dealing with
inter personal and intra personal conflict. As a team leader of a technical event called Pulse 09 at my
university, I had to deal with conflicts on a regular basis. Conflicts usually arise either due to lack of
effective communication, different ideologies, lack of resources or due to task interdependence [3]. It
was by far my most life changing experience as it taught me the reason behind conflicts and the way
to resolve them. In this paper, I will be talking about the way I dealt with conflicts and managed them,
the impact they had on the team performance and what I could do to improve my leadership by
contrasting my experience to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Members began to work more for the success of their groups and indirectly contributed to the success
of Pulse 09. Communication was not an issue anymore and meetings were held regularly. There were
times when the groups met more than once during the week to discuss individual progress. Team
meetings saw less of conflicts and more of a productive discussion that was aimed at the success of
the event. Incorporating a reward system, I guess was the key that created a sense of healthy
competition amongst the individual groups and made the members strive towards the goal. As the
event came closer, the more positive I felt about the success of Pulse 09. The last meetings focused on
bringing together the work done by individual groups. The norms remained the same and thus, the
productivity of the team as a whole too didn t seem to lessen. The event was a huge success and was
listed amongst the top 10 technical festivals to attend in the Times of India newspaper. When I think
back now, I feel I could have done a better job in showcasing my leadership skills. Especially after
attending the leadership class, I could have done a lot differently. It was my first time as a leader and
no doubt I had done a good job, but with experience I definitely feel that I could have executed a
better leadership style at the event. If given a chance again, I would definitely be aware of the

  • 2. Should Whistleblowers Be Protected 12/6/14 Should Whistleblowers Be Protected? * Introduction The corruption rate in a community that does not support or protect reporting illegal activities is significantly high. Employees who work in public or private organizations are the first to identify wrongdoings in a workplace since they have up to date information. Whistleblowing can be an essential tool to identify and report these actions in the public, private and non profit sectors. • 7. The New Year Essay The New Year is upon us once again, ready or not. This holiday seems to me the one that provokes the most thought and reflection, which is a good thing really. We all need to assess where we are in our journey of life and make adjustments. For the Christian, this is especially important. Ephesians 5:1 2 reminds us to Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. The past year has been a great learning year for me in the area of relationships. I ve learned a lot about myself, others, and especially about how much God loves ME! Some of what I learned was very disappointing as I saw so much selfishness in relationships. I know that I am guilty of it too sometimes, but I just recognized it more, and saw the repercussions many times. Those consequences are painful and the effects are trickle down. It has made me really think about Love a lot more and how Love as God intended it to be should be evident in our lives ALWAYS, and not just when it s convenient for us. God spoke to me about His Love through my dog, Tracker. Yep, this is the Tracker story that I ve been meaning to put out there. The Learning And Teaching Strategies Many great learning and teaching strategies are presented in the text, How we learn... of which a few learning tactics, namely discrimination, perceptual learning, chunking and interleaving will be briefly discussed as to how they have relevance in my context. To begin we will examine discrimination, the brain s ability to detect minute differences in sights, sounds and textures. [Such is considered]...one of the first steps we take in making sense of the world (Carey, 2012, p.180). This learning technique occurs often during HT training as students detect differences in breathing patterns of those being treated, l see slight tremors or body twitches that accompanies release of stagnate energy and perceived smoothness of textures in the human energy field (Mentgen Bulbrook, 2011). Next, perceptual learning occurs as the brain takes notice of subtle differences in techniques, such as hand positions that seem the same but may not have the same therapeutic effect. Another learning strategy that can be useful in HT training is chunking which is the simple act of grouping bits and pieces of information together to make a whole (or at minimal a segment) of a concept. For example words stringed together create sentences and sentences which are connected formulate paragraph. In the case of HT chunking is necessary as a series of hand movements and/or places equate to a specific healing technique. • 10. Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close Personal Quotes September 11, 2001, was an unforgettable day that changed America forever. Thousands of lives were lost in this tragedy, like Oskar s father. In the beginning of Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Oskar mentions the Reconnaissance Expedition he and his father used to play on Sundays. After his dad passed away, Oskar s determination to complete expeditions remains, but now a different goal arises: to find the lock to the key found in his father s room that will help Oskar to stop missing his father. Even though Oskar knows his father is dead, this adventure is Oskar s way of receiving closure and coping with the loss of his father. During his journey of finding the lock, Oskar often gets heavy boots which is his metaphor of being burdened with emotions due to everything in his life that weighs him down. In Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Jonathan Safran Foer s use of the motif heavy boots throughout the novel highlights that it is normal to experience grief, but there are various ways to do so. Oskar spends much of his life attempting to find some restitution about the loss of his father. In the story, Ruth tells Mr. Black and Oskar many facts about the Empire State Building in New York City: That gave me heavy boots because it reminded me of the lock that I still hadn t found, and how until I found it, I didn t love dad enough (Foer 251). Oskar s feeling of grief and guilt about his dad s death bothers him; he feels in order to actually love his dad and get rid of his lament to receive closure, he must find the lock. Due to the disappointment of discovering that the lock has no connection to his father, Oskar has to invent closure to end feeling heavy boots by creating a fantasy world in which he and his father are safe. The book s final pages are a flip book of photos of a man, possibly his father, falling to his death from the World Trade Center. Oskar reverses the photos so that when you flip them, the man falls up. He creates a fictional story in which his Dad is still alive. Even though the quest doesn t give Oskar the closure he expected, it does help him appreciate the time he did have with his Dad. Furthermore, some tend to mourn by engaging in their hobbies and interests. Alice Black ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The human body has structures and processes inside the body that defend against infection and additional harmful foreign bodies. The first, involving gene replacement, attempts to correct a specific genetic defect linked to a major component of the disease by expressing unmutated gene. The intervention used will depend on the therapist and the client. The following are just a few of the interventions that are at a narrative therapist disposal. Problem Deconstruction. Deconstructed Listening and Questions. Deconstructed listening and questions are based on the philosophical works of Jacques Derrid, narrative therapists use this technique to help their clients track how dominate discourses are affecting them and enable them to choose which discourses they will allow to affect their lives (Gehart, 2014). In deconstructive listening, the therapist listens for gaps in the client s understanding and ask them to fill in the details or has them explain the ambiguities in their stories (Gehart, 2014, p. 408). Deconstructive questions help the client breakdown the story to see how it was constructed in the first place and to help identify which discourse is influencing them (Gehart, 2014). Scaffolding Conversations. Vygotsky s zone of proximal development concept is the basis of this intervention. This concept is based on Vygotsky s theory that learning is relational so in order for children to learn, they need to be able to interact with the new material. • 24. Natural Disasters And Public Health Of The Affected... Introduction Natural disasters will always cause damage to the infrastructures and public health of the affected communities. Low income countries are the most vulnerable because of a lack of preparation for coping with the displaced population. Displaced populations of vulnerable areas are often subjected to poor sanitation and hygiene practices and inaccessible clean water, both as effects of crowding and being in an unfamiliar environment. It is the primary cause of communicable diseases following natural disasters. Until recently, policy makers were widely under the misconception that disease is spread from bodies. While it is still exaggerated in the media, the main cause of illness and death following disasters is due to an inadequate provision of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) practices. Preparation by governments and foreign organizations should focus on the sanitation of those displaced in order to address communicable diseases in the short term. Having a strong plan before the disaster can promote sustained WASH practices after disaster recovery and improve long term health. Governments of at risk countries often do not have the resources for integrating WASH and disaster preparation and rely on foreign assistance. Their goal is to identify hazards and risks of likely natural disasters, and take it into account when designing new infrastructure. Hardware like latrines and sanitation facilities should be able to withstand the disaster or be safe to use ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Christina Contreras Mr. Limon ERWC 01 March 2017 The Relevance of Neil Postman s Assertions in Today s Society: Huxley s Brave New World could be considered almost prophetic by many people today. It is alarmingly obvious how modern society is eerily similar to Huxley s novel with the constant demand for instant gratification encouraging unnatural changes. Neil Postman, a contemporary social critic, seems to have noticed this similarity as he has made very bold, very valid statements regarding the text and its relevance to our world today. • 28. The Crystal Land Poem Meaning The Crystal Land: Constructing and Destroying Zembla By shifting focus to the imagery of crystal, which carries contrasting connotations from the windows of the previous narrative, Nabokov also shifts the setting from the realm of reality to that of Kinbote s fantasy. The delicate extravagance generally associated with crystal can be seen as a representation of the unattainable, subjective realm both internal authors fundamentally strive for. The fact that crystal is able to refract light due to the presence of lead also supports that as it alludes to the idea of the false azure projected by the windowpane in Shade s poem. Furthermore, both Zembla and the ambiguous realm Shade portrays in the first stanza of his poem are dubbed the crystal land. This continual reflection of images from the ... By using the word stone, however he evokes the juxtaposition of nature and glass imagery from the first narrative. By synthesizing the two symbols here, he can thus shift the meaning of crystal to act as a barrier entrapping the narrator within his fantasy. Furthermore, by placing Kinbote in the same voyeuristic role as in the first narrative, Nabokov is able to once again convey Kinbote s inability to transcend his fantasy due to his dissociation from reality. In effect, by including the fantasy narrative, Nabokov has the freedom for romanticized invention which allows him to literally imprison Kinbote in a crystal palace.
