Military Customs
Military Customs and Courtesies In the Army and throughout every branch there are certain
customs and courtesies that every soldier and military member must follow in order for there to
be order and discipline on a daily basis. Customs and courtesies are put in to place to show
respect for Non Commissioned Officers and for Officers of all rank. In this essay, I will be writing
about the importance of salutes, standing at the correct position when talking to someone higher
ranking than yourself, using proper language when talking to someone of a higher rank, where you
should walk when walking with someone of a higher rank, as well as other customs and courtesies
you find throughout the army and all other branches. A custom is an... Show more content on

Salutes are not required when you are indoors unless you are reporting to an officer or when on
guard duty or when saluting is obviously inappropriate. It is important to show
noncommissioned officers respect as well. You do not salute them; you stand at parade rest
when talking to them and address them by their proper rank. The ranks you say when speaking
to a noncommissioned officer are Corporal, sergeant, master sergeant, first sergeant and sergeant
major. When talking to an NCO, you always finish your sentence with his or her rank. Here is an
example: I do not know the answer but I will find out and let you know Sergeant. It is simple and
easy to remember for most soldiers, while other soldiers need to remind themselves constantly to
do this. Another military custom from ancient times states that you should always sit or walk to
the left of your superiors. This custom came about in old English times and stems from very old
English tradition. The right is known as the position of honor. Most people are right handed and
back in the time of knights, the majority of knights would hold their sword in their right now and
their shield in their left hand.

Capital One
Capital One Financial Corporation
1. How is Capital One s use of IT different from other mass customization strategies? Capital One
uses IT through its information based strategy (IBS) to record, organize, and analyze data on the
characteristics and behaviors of their customers, as stated by CEO Richard Fairbank. Their
philosophy was to exploit information by constructing scientific models that could be used to both
assess the creditworthiness of potential cardholders through FICO scoring, and to customize
product offerings for existing ones. This was done through data mining, sorting, customizing offers
and marketing campaigns, and then analyzing this data to see what campaigns worked for what
reason and what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Behavioral interviews, case interviews, and standardized tests were used to find raw talent without
focusing on prior industry or marketing experience. These four things are what separates Capital
One from its competition, and will sustain their competitive advantage in the future.
3. What are the consequences of Capital One s IT strategy for expansion into different segments of
the credit card industry, and into other industry s? The immediate consequences of their expansion
strategy proved the efficiency of their statistical modeling to inhibit Capital One from taking any
missteps into industry s that are either saturated or do not allow enough growth in the future.
Capital One considered expanding into auto insurance and auto financing, but fierce competition,
low margins, and stringent regulation kept them from pursuing this immediately. (Capital One did
recently acquire Summit Acceptance Corporation an auto financing company that focused on the
sub prime market). Next they looked at the energy and telecom industries, but consumer energy
usage patterns are available publicly which kept them from exploring this option further. America
One was created which resold blocks of calling time enabling Capital One to gain a foothold in
telecom. An ancillary effect of Capital One looking to broaden its horizons into other industries will
promote other companies to review their current IT systems to see where their inefficiencies lie, so
they can

Essay On Goneril In King Lear
Goneril in King Lear perfectly exemplifies with this quote how being overly credulous can lead
to the downfall of a character. Trust is a complicated issue; people want to believe what others say,
and yet it becomes harder to believe as they are let down time and time again. It also manifests
itself in many forms, such as mistrust of self or mistrust of others. Trustis a common thread
throughout all human history, and yet it has continually proved to be the downfall of everything
ranging from great empires to even the smallest of relationships. King Leargives insight into all
these themes, with characters mistrusting themselves, mistrusting each other, and the downfall of
as something as large as a kingdom and as small as half of a family. From the start, the play
presents a man with the most powerful title King Lear himself being confused by trust. Riddled
with lapses of dementia in his old age, he invents a little game to divide his kingdom, where his
daughters profess their love to him to earn their fair share of the land. Lear fools himself into
believing that his two eldest daughters love him, and is incredulous to find out that his favorite
daughter does not profess her love as grandly as the other two did. Lear continually fools himself
into trusting his daughters, when he tries to visit Goneril, keep his knights, and resorting to visiting
Regan. His dementia has brought him to the point where he wants to trust those close to him, but in
the end, he is the

Analysis Of I Am Waiting
American politics has proved to be flawed in structure over, and over again. Although our founding
fathers had the best intentions when they implemented democracy, they like most modern day
politicians, failed to actually make things better. Yes we gained our Independence, but with the
ability to make our own choices we tend to make childish and impulsive decisions. The election of
Donald Trumpstands to be the most recent of those mistakes, and the politicians who work for him
are either blinded or full of regret. Poets Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Robert Lowell paint vivid
pictures of these very mistakes that seem to recur with the thought of democracy.
More often than not we elect our President based on the changes he promises to deliver once in
office. Lawrence Ferlinghetti s poem titled I Am Waiting is a perfect example of those broken
promises. The poem discusses how he s waiting for the American dream to manifest itself. The
dream of freedom and equality in a place where our elected officials actually work for us, rather
than against us. You know he s talking about these things in the allusions he makes to the
Mayflower and the Western frontier. He says,
And I am waiting / for a rebirth of wonder / and I am waiting for someone / to really discover
America/ and wail/ The poem ends with Ferlinghetti waiting forever and constantly seeking change
similar to American citizens wishing and waiting for the same.
The citizens of this beauty we call the United States have

The remaining 60% of the patients are follow up patients. Of this 60%, 85% of them necessitate an
X Ray, while the remaining 15% do not. They go directly to the doctor or senior resident student.
Given this, we can calculate the average time per patient in the clinic.
Average Time = 129 x 0.4 + [0.85x119 + 0.15x(25+3+33)] x 0.6
= 129 x0.4 + 110.3x0.6 = 117.78 minutes
The total time that a patient spend in clinic (a usual patient, without specification if he/she is new
or a follow up), is 117.8 minutes.
Having the throughput and the flow time, we can calculate the inventory of patients in the clinic.
You can find the inventory for every step in the table above. Adding these numbers together, we can
calculate the number of patients that are in clinic in a given time.
Number of patients in clinic = 4 + 5 + 7.73 + 9.86 + 0.4 + 0.6 + 5 + 6.6
39.19 on average 39 patients are in clinic
The average number of client that ate in clinic in a given time is 39. This make sense because
on average the clinic is open for a half day (4 hours) and they see approximately 80 patients per
half day. If we have an average time spent in the clinic of 117 minutes and average number of
patients in the clinic at a given time of 39, then

An Experience Of A Stereotype Against The Physical Appearance
An experience of a stereotype against the physical appearance Recently, UNICEF released a
video to promote their campaign for needy children, however it presents a stereotype against the
physical appearance rather than the campaign. In the video, a 6 year old girl who dressed pretty
and neatly stood alone on a street and many people asked her whether she was all right. Later,
when the same girl had changed her appearance in dirty clothes and stood alone again in the
same street, nobody asked her whether she was okay. The attitudes that people showed
depended on the child s physical appearance. I have a similar experience. The experience that I
realized how people are offended by others who judge people based on the physical appearances
was when I waited the delayed airplane to go to Korea, a manager ignored me since I didn t dress
up neatly, however he changed his attitude politely as soon as he noticed I was a VIP in his
company. A few years ago, my mom called me in the night and said urgently, Your grandmother
is in a critical condition. I think you will be better to see her before she passes away. I was
completely overwhelmed by the unexpected news. My grandmother raised me when I was young
because my parents were busy with work, so she was very special to me. As soon as I heard that
news, I bought the earliest flight ticket for Korea immediately and rushed to the airport with a
baggy hoodie and old sweatpants on. Because the thought that I need to go to the

Nuclear fusion is a form of nuclear reaction which occurs when two or more atomic nuclei collide
at a very high speed and as a result, join to form a new type of atomic nucleus. During this process,
matter is not conserved because some of the mass of the fusing nuclei is converted into energy.
Fusion is currently the process that powers active stars. Fusion was first achieved in 1951 with the

Gamma radiation is also a possible byproduct from a fusion reactor. However, the amount of
gamma rays produced will be noticeably less than the amount of x rays produced and anything
that is sufficient enough to shield from x rays will be more than enough to shield from gamma
rays. The only other places radiation can come from are from the top and bottom of the vacuum
chamber. Regardless of how much radiation will be coming from the bottom of the chamber it will
not affect us because we won t be looking under the chamber or above the chamber most likely
when the reactor is running.
On top of this both the top of the bottom are being built from aluminum which will stop some
radiation. Lastly, a thin sheet of lead, or a some water / dirt can be placed on top or under the
container in order to help block the radiation a lot more.
Due to the risks that can occur from high radiation levels, a backup plan has been developed in
the case of high radiation levels. To start, at the start of the project a Geiger Counter will be
purchased in order to keep track of all the radiation and determine whether the radiation ever
reaches unsafe levels.
Should the radiation level be determined to be harmful, the reactor will be surrounded by material in

Medical Diagnosis Of Heart Failure
The sarcoplasmic reticulum is the major intracellular site for calcium release and storage in the
myocyte. In the heart failure, the movement of calcium ions in and out of the cell is no longer
effective. These changes in calcium handling lead to alterations in myocyte contraction and
relaxation, which will contribute to worsening diastolic dysfunction in heartfailure (Karch, 2013).
Medical Diagnosis of Heart Failure
The diagnostic methods in heart failure are directed toward establishing the cause of the disorder
and determining the extent of the dysfunction (Grossman Porth, 2014). The methods used in the
diagnosis of heart failure include risk factor assessment, history and physical examination,

Electrocardiography can be used to detect underlying disorders of cardiac rhythm, or conduction
abnormalities. Chest x rays provide information about the size and shape of the heart and
pulmonary vasculature and the presence of pulmonary edema (Grossman Porth, 2014).
Radionuclide ventriculography and cardiac angiography are recommended to detect CAD as the
underlying cause of heart failure. Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMRI) and cardiac
computed tomography (CCT) are used to document ejection fraction, ventricular preload, and
regional wall motion (Grossman Porth, 2014).
The monitoring methods include central venous pressure (CVP), pulmonary artery pressure
monitoring, thermodilution measurements of cardiac output, and intra arterial measurements of
blood pressure are used in the acute, life threatening episodes of heart failure (Grossman Porth,
2014). After a complete physical examination and history collection and by verifying the results of
laboratory studies, chest x ray, echocardiogram and CT scan, the diagnosis of heart failure is
formulated for the patient S.K.
Management of Heart Failure
The goals of treatment for heart failure are determined by the rapidity of onset and severity of the
heart failure and directed towards relieving the symptoms, improving the quality of life, and
reducing or eliminating the risk factors (Grossman Porth, 2014). There are

Biblical Worldview Of Humanity
In this paper I will be comparing the biblical worldview with a non biblical worldview in regards
to humanity. A biblical worldview foundation is Christ and not us perceiving the world. The
biblical worldview is based in our beliefs and seeing the world through Christ s eyes. I will explain
different theories of humanity along with the biblical worldview of humanity. I will provide you
with a Christian understanding of humanity but I will also show differences and similarities to
other interpretations of humanity. The first alternative theoryI want to speak about is the Animal
Theory. The animal theory says that the human primarily as a member of the animal kingdom
and derived from some of its higher forms. (Erickson, 2015) This view says that we have and
will go through the same sort of processes as other animals. It mentions that there is only a one
degree difference between animals and us and we will have a similar end. We are not animals
because the word of Godsays Let Us make man in Our image, according to our likeness. (Genesis
1:26, New American Standard Bible) If we look at this verse God mentions that we are made on
His image. Many argue that the image of God doesn t necessarily mean that we look like Him
physically, but that we carry many of His qualities like having dominion over animals. But, if we
look into this verse God mentions that He has allowed men to have dominion over animals, an Ape
is an animal. Let them rule over the fish of the sea and over

Frank Sinatra Success
No one will argue against Frank Sinatra s success in the music industry. An Academy Award
winner, 11 time Grammy winner, and a Peabody recipient, Frank Sinatra led what many consider a
successful life. Although he died wealthy, married, and famous, one must wonder if Frank Sinatra
was truly happy? Sinatra was known for mood swings which often resulted in fights, and had
attempted suicide multiple times ( 8 Things you didn t Know about Frank Sinatra). Just because
Frank Sinatra was outwardly successful, does not mean he was happy. Many believe that success
is rooted within monetary gain. That to be wealthy is to be successful, or to be powerful, but I
believe that holistic success has little to do with one s net worth but rather one s happiness. By
extension, success and happiness do not directly correlate. Success is not necessarily monetary gain
or popularity, but rather self fulfillment and happiness with one s achievements and choices.
As the 19th century English poet, Robert Browning, puts it, Better have failed in the high aim, As
I/Than vulgarly in the low aim succeed . In other words, Browning believes that it is more
important to fight for achievements that do not only better oneself, but effect change on a deeper
level are more honorable, in contrast to the quest for personal gratification. The secular pursuit of
wealth or success does not always result in one s life changing for the better. The job promotion

Introduction:
As the World keeps developing, so does the population. Today the Earth is home to just over 7

Fertility rates in India are high and compared to the latter stages of the 19th and early part of the
20th centuries growth has increased significantly. During the next decade or so, India will surpass
China making it the most populous country in the World. It is understood that it is the under
developing countries that are mostly at risk with over population, this is especially true amongst
African nations. Economically, this has caused great deal of concern amongst of the countries
governing bodies. The fact of the matter is that most people living in Africa have the lowest life
expectancy due to lack of medical establishments and food supplies. It has become clear that since
the availability of jobs in most countries around Africa is severely low, farming is mainly the
biggest industry. As a result, it is argued that due to the lack of welfare and general living standards
in families, birth rates increase so that it emphasises with the way it affects the total rise in

Real People, Real Cases on Television
Judge Judy has been on air for 18 years now and recently signed a contract extending her show
until at least 2017; The People s Court trails behind having several judges preside on the bench.
The first judge was Judge Wapner (most iconic in the day) with even Judge Judy s husband on the
bench (for a very short time)! The latest presiding judgeis Marilyn Milian. They are loved by many,
but those unfortunate enough to be on the guilty side of a case seeing the wrath of a judge might
not agree. Every day millions of Americans and countless people around the world tune in to The
People s Court or Judge Judyalong with more recent non traditional courts, such as Paternity Court
and Divorce Court. While there are many reasons they are so popular, an important question to ask
is what keeps drawing people back every day to their televisions to watch these shows?
Viewers unfamiliar with the genre might think that they are all the same; however, the
personalities and various style of judging is what makes each stand out from the other. Judge
Judy is known for her no non sense style of rulings, while Judge Marilyn Milian (The People s
Court) is less abrasive yet still assertive in the eyes of the law. We love seeing Judge Judy losing
her temper while embarrassing the defendant or plaintiff who is in the wrong, and making the
guilty parties take responsibility for their actions and (hopefully learn to) make the right choices in
the future. Other viewers enjoy Judge Milian react with

The Repercussions Of Hamlet s State Of Being In The World

Repercussions of Claudius killing of Old Hamlet caused by Hamlet s path to revenge
Along the way Hamlet contemplates his and other s state of being in the world. In Shakespeare s
Hamlet, the means of existence are questioned through Hamlet s relationships, his actions and
inactions, and his overall state of mind throughout the play, and concludes to being that life doesn t

He expresses his depressiveness from his mother s betrayal and his father s death by stating how

Hamlet is looking for a way to interpret what he is doing. While certain actions may seem right

How Does Homelessness Affect Our Society
Every night across America, roughly 32,000 people between the ages of 18 and 24 are homeless
(Youth Homelessness). In the same night, hundreds of thousands of girls say goodnight to their
fellow sorority sisters before crawling into their beds. As a Panhellenic community, University of
Nebraska gives girls the opportunities to create friendships, form connections, and build strong
women. We are called to be active members of society, and use our fortunate lives to change the
world we live in. After visiting Community First! Village of Austin, Texas, it has become aware to
me the severity of homelessnessin America and how simple it can be to change it. Community
First! not only builds tiny homes through donations for homeless people around Austin, but gives
them a community to become a part of. Donating money to build a tiny house at Community First!
Village would not only strengthen UNL s Panhellenic Council s generous reputation, but also
support the movement to end homelessness through providing a home and community to a young
outcasted individual.
Community First! Village is sponsored by Mobile Loaves Fishes, a catholic charity that has has
grown to working every night, all year long, providing food, clothing, and hygiene products to the
homeless in surrounding cities of Austin. They have served over 5 million meals with the help of
19,000 volunteers. Their recent innovation (Community First!) is a 27 acre development that has
been building a tiny home community for homeless people to buy for inexpensive prices. The
village features miniature neighborhoods of homes, a church, garden, medical facility, market,
movie theater, and other amenities. The project continues to grow as donations and volunteers
come in for construction of housing and purchases of needed materials and goods. As of now,
the village has housed almost 200 former homeless men and women. Mobile Loaves Fishes
continues to house more people as construction is completed and word has spread to other major
cities of the work this organization has founded and grown. Many of the people living in the
village have come from a variety of lives before moving into the community. Some old, some new,
and often have been alone most of their life.

Ways to Involve Parents Essay
Ways to Involve Parents
Parents may think volunteering to help in the classroom is the only way to be involved, well they
are wrong. There are many ways parents can involve themselves in the school. Parents and family
can be involved by reading to their children, checking homework, communicating with the teacher,
and attending school functions; the list goes on and on. (NEA, 2003). No matter how parents
contribute time towards their child s education, it will be important. Parental involvement is
important because it makes a difference in children s lives. (NEA, 2003). This difference includes
student achievement and success.

(Dimmock O Donoghue, 1996). Research indicates that parents who are involved in their child s
academic life have a profound effect on the child s ability to learn and help instill in them an
appreciation for learning that can last a lifetime (Pape, 1999, p. 2). The National Education
Association President, Bob Chase says, Family involvement in a child s academic life is critical.
A balance must be struck between family, school, and community that allows a child to flourish,
both in academics and as a person (Pape, 1999, p. 3).
How Parental Involvement Improves Student Achievement in Life
Parental involvement helps students improve in life as well. When parents get involved with their
children, the children s self esteem rises and they focus more on life. This is because the students
feel like they are loved when their parents participate.
Boosting the self esteem of students can lead to a reduced number of runaways and suicides among
older students. The main reason children runaway from home and commit suicide is because they
feel left out or overwhelmed with life. Parental involvement can make these students feel like they
belong and are wanted in their environment. The involvement of parents and family can also help
students grow as people. They mature faster and act

The Book Of Sand, By Jorge Luis Borges
In The Book of Sand by Jorge Luis Borges, the idea that time and life as a whole are endless and
unreasonable yet are limited and full of meaning at the same time. In this house are several
English bibles, including the first John Wyclif s. I also have Cipriano de Valera s, Luther s
which, from a literary viewpoint, is the worst and a Latin copy of Vulgate. This quotes shows that
the narrator displays that he owns over 9 different bibles including rare ones. The knowledge he

Margery Kempe Quotes
Margery Kempe was a very isolated women, even with the love of God. Margery s gift that was
granted to her and her dedication to religion came at a cost to her. Margery has a very deep
spiritual connection to the life of Christ. This deep connection causes Margery to burst into tear,
screaming, and overall emotional turmoil. Since Margery is screaming and crying, she would often
scare away other people, this would leave Margery along with just her faith. Jesusexplains to
Margery that isolation is the price she must pay in order to hold a higher merit in heaven. The idea
of losing loved ones for the love of Godcan be seen in this quote, [...] she was greatly despised and
reproved because she wept so much [...] and so much so that her husband

Book Report On The Tipping Point By Malcolm Gladwell
The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell examines the phenomenon of the tipping point: that magic
moment when an idea, trend, or social behavior crosses a threshold, tips, and spreads like wildfire,
as put into words by the book s author. Gladwell packed his book full of interesting studies that
further explain the concept of the tipping point. In my opinion, The Tipping Point is a very
captivating book.
Through reading The Tipping Point, I gained insight into what the tipping point is. I learned the
three rules of the tipping point : the Law of the Few , the Stickiness Factor , and the Power of
Context . In the law of the few, Malcolm Gladwell states that there are certain people who
contribute to the start of tipping points who he calls Connectors , Mavens , and Salesmen. Together
these three personality types spread ideas, products, and behaviors throughout the world. I love
learning about people and found these concepts fascinating. Gladwell s other rules of the tipping

wonder if I could cause a tipping point for something. I recall an experience I had with the
tipping point when I was younger, but I did not know it at the time. My friend was given a pair
of rollerblades as a birthday gift. She had so much fun with them, that another neighbor asked her
parents to buy rollerblades for her and her younger sisters and they did. A short time later, I too,
bought a pair of rollerblades. Of course, this example is not as dramatic as the ones talked through
in The Tipping Point, but I do think that it is an example of a smaller kind of tipping

Who Was To Blame For Titanic Tragedy Research Paper
Who Was to Blame for the Titanic Tragedy? On April 15th 1912 the largest ship in the world, the
Titanic, plunged into the icy blue waters of the Atlantic ocean. Hundreds of bodies littered the
shining ripples of water while survivors frantically searched for their loved ones, holding on to
the hope that they were still alive. No one knows who is to blame for this horrific disaster, but
many believe that Captain Smith is to blame for the sinking. He ignored ice warnings from the
crew and surrounding ships. He also allowed lifeboats to be filled to only half their capacity before
being lowered into the water. Captain Smith also traveled at full speed through an ice field. Captain
Smith made many mistakes while operating the ship. According

The Four Values Of Leadership
People ask the difference between a leader and a boss. The leader leads and the boss drives
Theodore Roosevelt. What does it mean to be a leader? What defines a good leader? History has
taught us many things about leadership. Good Leadership can be the difference between
winning a war and losing a war. Even in everyday life, a good leader is capable of achieving
much greater things than a normal person. But leadership is a powerful tool that can be used
both for the good of mankind and its downfall. Leadership is the ability of an individual or and
organisation, to influence other individuals and its team to achieve a desired outcome. Influence is
a very under rated aspect of leadership. No individual would follow a person who does not have...

The ability to self reflect is as crucial as any. A leader should always evaluate himself and his
values time to time. This make him more aware of his strengths and weaknesses and allows him
to adapt to any scenario. Being able to reflect enable leader to remember past experiences and
gain quality insights into themselves. This will aid the decision making process a leader goes
through. The next value that Harry Jensen Kramer Jr talk about is the need for balance. A leader
may have his own set of values and opinions of a situation. But it should not obstruct his ability
to see the same situation from another point of view. A good leader accepts that there are always
different perspective to consider in a given situation. Many leaders tend to be headstrong in their
mind set that only their opinion matters. Anyone who does not believe in his opinion is just
challenging his authority. This is a clear case of an ego issue. The open mindedness opens room
for god communication between the leader and his followers. This develops trust and respect
within an organisation. But it is also necessary to filter out the good opinions from the bad ones.
As a leader, you must decide which is important for the organisation and not take all suggestion
without due thought just to appease the teams. Doing that makes you the follower and it you will
always lose credibility as a

Computer Integration Using The Iste s Essential...
In my ITEC 7410 Technology Leadership Vision course, I created a Current Reality Report/SWOT
Analysis. This report assesses the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats that my school
currently faces regarding technology integration using the ISTE s Essential Conditions for
successful technologyintegration. As a result of completing this artifact, I believe that our three
main areas of focus should be on increasing parental involvement, the number of proficient digital
tools available, and decreasing the achievement gap between ELL and low SES students.
In order to implement an action plan that integrates technology and accommodates diverse student
populations, I first create a shared vision using data gathered from observations, surveys, and
interviews and researched literature and a Current Reality Report/SWOT Analysis report. The
Current Reality Report/SWOT Analysis report demonstrates my ability to facilitate the design,
development, implementation, communication, and evaluation of technology infused strategic
plans because I was able to design and develop a report using data from surveys and interviews
from various stakeholders after evaluating the School District s Three Year Technology plan as

Elbow amputation is an amputation from the supracondylar region to the axillary fold

so with loosing it above the elbow. The ability to preserve the length of the limballows for better
movement, and enhances the fit of the prosthesis(emedicine.medscape.com). The more proximal the
amputationthe less functional the stump will be. This amputation will cause the loss of the hand,
wrist elbow, but good shoulder function will continue( Deverix, Papdapoulos, p.656). The most
common cause of an amputation above the elbow is Trauma(Ganz, Gulick, Smurr , Yancoseck)....

Atlanteans were far more advanced than any civilization during their time, not to be mistaken
with Atlanteans being more advanced than any civilization during our time. Atlantis culture is
explained in Critias by a great amount within it s pages and it is extraordinary how the people
behaved so civil and orderly back then. The first thing the reader will learn in reading Critias is
Atlantis is ancient, ancient as in 9000 years (Plato). It s no wonder Atlanteans became far more
advanced than Athenians and other neighboring ancient cities. The empire had time to form a
stable society and conduct new ways to make life easier. The other detail in Critias is Athens

which grants him back the ability to enter the matrix. He doesn t have any knowledge of what is

However, both are dependent on their cybernetic enhancement and are unable to function

traditional notion of a character. He is a computer program (an algorithm) that can mimic dead s
individual personality and habits. He does everything a conscious person does: laughs, answers,
possesses a self awareness and the desire to die. However, he can t attain a sense of self identity
and, therefore, he isn t real (Roberts 175 177). Armitage, unlike McCoy Pauley, has the body of a
real human being. However, as the story progresses characters realize that Armitage is some sort

Corto, who was almost killed in a military raid. Eventually, the Corto s personality emerges through

The Importance Of The Dreyfus Affair
Throughout history, journalism has impacted in both the history and the politics of a country. In
1894, a man named Alfred Dreyfus, who was a Jewish military officer in the French army, was
used as a scapegoat by being wrongfully accused of sharing French military defense secrets to
Germany. Alfred Dreyfus is importance lies in the strong antisemitismmovement in France that
erupted after (Fischel 119). The Affair began in September 1894 when The French Army
Intelligence Bureau intercepted a letter supposedly written by Alfred Dreyfus. Alfred Dreyfus was

Like many innocent people, the letters from Alfred are filled with the questions on the verdict and
claims of innocence. He used these questions once sentenced to restore his honor by acquittal.
These positive thoughts of acquittal prevented his suicide on Devil s Island (Dreyfus 138).
Although Alfred Dreyfus was not directly advocating for political, economic, cultural, social, or
military change, his attempts to advocate for his innocence led to a political and cultural divide in
France. The Dreyfus Affairwas a main cause of the tremendous unrest in France. It unleased a
strong anti Semitism movement in France because of a perceived failure of the justice system
(Fischel 119). It deeply divided France in politics, religion, and national identity. The acquittal of
Alfred Dreyfus gave justice to him and marked a turning point in history, in which it was a
magnificent step forward in an era of progress for ideas of liberty, of justice, and of social solidarity
(Dreyfus 241).
Although Alfred Dreyfus was not directly advocating for political, economic, cultural, social, or

Edith Wharton s use of Irony in Age of Innocense
Throughout the novel, the author s voice appears to criticize the empty morals of Old New

social order that prevented individuals to deviate from the traditional structure. The novel s
Archer Newland is one who failed to break through barriers of convention and can t escape steely

rode buses into the cities to see if the townspeople accepted or declined the new law. They in turn
ended up beating, pummeling, and chasing the riders out of town with the white mobs. The
Freedom Riders violently fought the segregation of blacks and whites for public transportation

The riders were beaten again by another mob (Powledge 255). The Freedom Riders then proceeded
to head down South to Birmingham, Alabama on May 20, 1961, at 8:30 A.M. CST from the
Greyhound Bus Station to test the newly instated law involving the integration for public
transportation. The spokesman for the group was a twenty one year old named John Lewis.
They were led by police vehicles on the highway and followed by undercover cop cars for
protection. When they arrived at 10:23 A.M. CST they were bombarded by a mob of people
(Loory 573). A white male named James Peck was beaten unconsciously and needed 56 stitches to
close up his head wounds (Powledge 255). Stuart H. Loory, a reporter who trailed the journey of the
Freedom Riders bus, states in great detail that, The mob had first pummeled three National
Broadcasting Co. newsmen and several other photographers, smashing their equipment. Then it
turned to vent its unsatisfied fury on the band of students who stood quietly on the bus platform,
apparently not knowing what to do after completing the ride from Birmingham. The mobsters used
everything imaginable to beat the riders. Loory had been on the platform, escaped without injury,
and witnessed this as follows, Using metal pipes, baseball bats, sticks, and fists, the mob surged on
the small group of Freedom Riders, clubbing, punching, chasing, and beating both whites and
Negroes. When some of the bus riders began to

Supportive Relationships Essay
Supportive Relationships
Task 1 (P6, M3)
In this part of the assignment I will be discussing the extent to which supportive relationships with
adults can reduce the risk of abuse and neglect, making references to the case studies of Carla,
Denzil and Rafeyia, detailing how such relationships would reduce the risk of abuse for them in
particular. A supportive relationship involves the, care and supportfrom those around you such as
friends, family and care workers. Supportive relationships affect our health and well being in a
very positive way, having the support from people around us gives us confidence and makes us
feel better about ourselves.it also means that we build trust in people to help look after us, and

Due to the fact Dave sees Denzil every day it also means that he would be able to notice quite
easily any changes in his behaviour, such early detection minimises any chance or risk of
exploitation; it also means that Denzil knows he is being watched supportively which spurs him
on to avoid risks of abuse that may come his way. He feels empowered that the hostel worker
would notice and be there to help if temptation did make an appearance. Care work has to be
based on person centred care, this means putting the service user at the heart of all decisions and
care. What choices are made has to be based upon what is believed to be best for them, as well as
taking in to account what they want from you, this is where their individual rights need to be
respected.by taking in to account the rights of other people and respecting them it minimises the
risk of abuse taking place in the first place. In the case study, it tells of Rafeyia, a 30 year old girl
with learning disabilities. She attends a day centre and her support worker noticed shed become
quite withdrawn, suspecting a male individual has been bothering he. Because of the supportive
relationship Clare (her support worker,) has with Rafeyia, she is going to have a chat with her. In
this case it is clear that within the boundaries of their relationship, they have managed to build up a
high and secure level of trust between them. It is this trust that makes Clare believe Rafeyia will

The Arts And Arts Education
Studies show that students in the arts outperformed their non arts peers on the SAT by 96 points,
while a child who has continued access to arts education has a 74 percent higher chance of
planning to attend college (Urist 9). The arts teach several lessons to children and they provide an
equal opportunity for everyone. The artsalso provide a different form of discipline and insight into
the real world. While others may say that sports make kids strive for good grades, the arts
support children in a different way. Others may also say funding should go towards core subjects,
but what they don t know is that the humanities use the core subjects during classes. Even though
fine arts are not exciting for everyone, they should receive more funding in schools because fine
arts keep kids out of trouble, provide a way to express oneself and help teenagers make life
decisions.
Every year fine arts and humanities programs are cut from high schools. The fine arts and
humanities programs are the studies of art, literature, dance, music or theater. The fine arts are both
extra curricular and everyday subjects. Even though Language Arts are considered a fine art, it is
also a regular core subject that is included in the school budget. In New York, the school budget
crisis happened in 1970 (Moskowitz 1). According to Eva Moscowitz, For example, Committee

Krishna had been on his way to Canada but decided to delay his trip and accept the invite from
an older couple to stay in their home in Boise, Idaho. This couple welcomed other churchgoers to

questions and then use their answers to teach his views on religion. One question that he asked
this small group was, What is your personal philosophy? Everyone had the same response. Their
answer was to follow Jesus. Krishna nodded in agreement. He seemed warm and engaging, and
somewhat charismatic as he captivated his audience and commanded everyone s attention as he
spoke. He had a certain way about him that seemed to draw people in, and they believed

Two Versions of the Song Roxanne Essay
Many say that music has evolved over the years. This essay shall explore the elements of two
versions of one song. It shall discuss the correlations and disparities of these songs and confer how
it has been revolutionised to entertain the audiences of today.
The two songs which shall be scrutinized shall be Roxanne. Originally released in 1978, it was
performed by The Police . The cover version El Tango de Roxanne was rearranged by Mariano
Mores in Moulin Rouge, 2001.
The main gist of the song is Sting telling his girlfriend that she doesn t have to be a prostitute
anymore. One could say that repeating the words Roxanne, you don t have to put on the red light
in the song causes it to become the main idea of this song. As the song is ... Show more content on

The off beat sequences of the electric guitar create a reggae feel for the song endorsing it to be
mellow. Throughout the song, the electric guitardoes not have any solos but variations of its
sequence are repeated throughout the structure of the song. Doing so gives the lead singers
message more priority. The domination of the classic drum kit creates a head bobbing motion for
some when listening to this song, helping it become more popular and an easily enjoyable song.
The cover version of Roxanne (El tango de Roxanne) uses classical instruments to create a
genuine tango feel; violins, viola, cello and Spanish guitar. The song consists of many layers of
instruments creating a thick texture at times. With the violins being the base of this, the viola and
Spanish guitar both have solos instead of consistent melodies throughout the song, giving short
but addictive glimpses. As violins are presented in a certain way for this song, it is known that
the genre for this version is tango. The structure of the composition in the style of tango creates
sexual temptation. This creates the atmosphere for the style of dancing and is reflected in the
scene for this song. This genre was an excellent choice as it flows with the story line and amplifies
the prostitution through the style of music. One may say that it appeals to dancers, and the age
groups of teenagers and above, as the sexual captivation could be a luring

Social And Economic Changes In America Essay
In the 35 years between 1865 and 1900, more social and economic change took place in American
then in all of its history prior. The Civil War brought about a huge amount of change in politics and
ushered in the Industrial Age. With this boom in industry also came the socioeconomic
transfiguration in America from rural dwelling to city living. Population boomed and residency in
cities like Chicago increased fifty fold. This city boom came with the invention of the elevator and
new building techniques for building taller buildings. Also, expanding public transportation and
super stores like Macy s and Marshall Field s provided the means for inhabitants to function.
Everything was not sunshine and roses during this social revolution though. Waste removal couldn t
keep up the increase in refuse and it inevitably filled the streets. Economic success and the promise

The Impact Of Immigration On The Us Economy
The number of immigrants entering the United States legally is greater today than it was at the
turn of the century, so as the US economy. US economy has proved to be raised dramatically in the
past few years. This made me think about Immigration and the US economy on a same page in my
mind. Many questions started populating in my head such as Does immigrationin some way affect
the US economy? If yes, how? After doing some research, I found that Immigration plays an
important role in the US economy. I ll start with my own background, how this question is
connected to me and what other people think about immigration. Next, I ll talk about my research
findings and the unexpected answers I got to my question. Are those answers same as people s
view. As a final point, I ll talk about what I learned in the process of researching the impact of
immigration on the US economy before concluding my essay.
Background:
I, myself is an immigrant and I know the struggle it takes to immigrate to the other country.
Presently, when we talk about immigrants, the few things that comes in our mind are terrorism,
illegal immigrants and they are the people who steal our jobs. Is that the real meaning of
immigrants? The point where this issue strikes me was, Does Immigration have only negative
impacts on the US economy? Why does media always portray immigration as a bad thing for the
US economy? We often believe things in a way in which media wants us to. Between 2000 and
2012, there was a

Theories Of Broken Windows Theory
In the early 1990 s New York City implemented a new method of policing called the Broken
Windows theory. At that time William Bratton was the new commissioner of the New York City
Police Department and he wanted to center his attention to the subways. Using this theory to help
with policing meant that more serious crimes would evolve from the minor infractions. Bratton
was basically causing a war with the fare evasion and the homeless in the subway tunnels. He was
authorizing sweeps to make sure that the subway tunnels were safe for citizens. This was all
stemmed from the broken windows theory that was introduced in an article from the 1982 Atlantic
Monthly written by James Q. Wilson and George Kelling. (Maskaly Boggess, 2014).
According to Wilson and Kelling they stated the broken windows theory is as if the first broken
window in a building is not repaired, the people who like breaking windows will assume that no
one cares about the building and more windows will be broken. Soon the building will have no
windows (Wilson and Kelling, 1982). Using this theory, New York CityPolice department thought
that if some rude remarks by the youths that were loitering were left unchallenged the youths
would believe that no one cares what they did and that their behaviors would escalate into
something more serious. In other words, they were trying to stop any minor problems before they
became worse. From the results of this a policy known as zero tolerance came to light, even

Perseverance In Mother To Son By Langston Hughes
Perseverance can play a huge role in a person s life. Through difficult times, having perseverance
can help anybody overcome their obstacles. When dealing with incredibly low income,
perseverance is a helpful tool to have in a person s toolbox of life. In Langston Hughes poem
Mother to Son the mother is advising her sonabout the hardships in life with the usage of imagery,
metaphors and encouragement. The mother uses her life experiences to teach her son what she
had to go through. During her years before her son was born, the mother gives examples of
different scenarios she has been through. By giving the image of a broken house, she explains how
[i]ts had tacks in it, and splinters, and boards torn up, and places with no carpet on the floor
(Hughes 1). The mother is telling her son about her upbringing and the different difficulties she
endured , hinting signs of possible poverty. The mother later uses light as another to interpret
imagery in her conversation. The son is told about the downfall of poverty in her home [a]nd
sometimes goin in the dark [w]here there ain t been no light (Hughes 1). There have been times
where the mother had to live with the lights being off and having to live in the dark. With such a
rough past, the mother definitely has many examples to give to her son. Poverty is a huge issue
many of people in the world have to deal with. Anybody can see or imagine seeing someone who
is poor, but do not know exactly how devastating it can be.

The Imorality Of War In Mythology, By Edith Hamilton, And...
Members of the human race can be very petty, able to create huge issues from small things. The
Trojan war is an example of such.Through the book Mythology, by Edith Hamilton, and the Iliad,
written by the greek poet Homer, war is displayed as bruta, petty, and wicked. The war begun
over a dense reason, the kidnapping of a beautiful woman, Helen. The Greek leader, Menelaus
wanted her back for himself, so he and his brother, along with a fleet of a thousand ships, went to
demand her return. Thus, a bloody war started, leading to the deaths of many great soldiers, and the
sacrifices of young children. Through the book Mythology, by Edith Hamilton, and the Iliad, written
by the greek poet Homer, war is displayed as brutal and wicked. The story of the Trojan Warmyth
criticizes the horrors and immorality of war.
The Trojan War was a story criticizing war, showing how humans can become savages during a
time of war. On page 207, it was stated that the ongoing conflict was not fighting, it was butchery.
Furthermore, on the same page, Edith Hamilton exemplifies the battle, The Greeks ... were borne
down by desperate men who wanted only to kill before they were killed. (Hamilton, 207) This
savagery evolved from the killing between the Greeks and the Trojans to the sacrifice of children.
For example, Hector s son. In order to fully show the emotional pain involved in this ordeal,
Hamilton includes speech between Andromache (Hector s wife) and her young son. Saying

Medical professionals should always value a patient s ethical right to privacy and confidentiality.
Under the HIPPA law, there are still concerns with the protection of patient privacy; therefore,
healthcare professionals must confront the growing technological environment and find ways to
increase access security, as well as discipline employees that violate a patient s privacy. Electronic
health records can be beneficial to providers from a cost and efficiency standpoint, but are patients

Healthcare providers are able to communicate easier via electronic medical records and under the
HIPPA law it is illegal to release patient information to other non healthcare professional parties.
HIPPA states, covered entities are required to protect the confidentiality or integrity of medical
information stored in electric records.5
Confidentiality extends past privacy and protects identifiable data. So, what is considered
confidential patient information? Confidential patient information consists of Protected Health
Information (PHI). The PHI contains the patient s demographic information, social security
number, diagnoses codes, medical record number, name of doctors, conversations between
healthcare providers, billing information, images of the patient, and medications. Confidential
information is seen electronically in a patient s medical record everyday and sometimes employees
forget how important it is to keep a patient s information confidential. Mental and physical
conditions, treatment plans and daily notes are documented in electronic medical records.
The healthcare industry benefits from Electronic Medical Records (EMR). Electronic software is
used to store and transfer patient health records. The advances in technology allow healthcare
professionals to access and share patient medical history. Such a system may decrease health care
costs, increase the quality of patient care, facilitate better departmental communication, create less

Threats and terrorism will always exist and are constantly evolving. Even after the dreadful 9/11
attacks, terrorists remain diligent at planning attacks against the United States and its allies.
Although not on the same scale as the 9/11 attacks, terrorists have successfully executed plots in
the United States, the United Kingdom and France. For example, on April 15, 2013, an attack at
the Boston Marathon occurred, killing three people and injuring 264 individuals. In the United
Kingdom, on 7 July 2005, the London bombing incidents took place. Fifty two individuals were

The types of threats aimed at the nation are changing as well. Terrorist groups such as IS (also
know as ISIS or ISIL) are still interested in Western recruits because it is easier for them to travel

always come from foreign countries, and are sometimes American or European citizens. The
recruits lineage can come from the country in which the terrorist reside or the recruit may be
impressed or drawn to the ideals and beliefs of another country. Terrorists or transnational criminals
are not limited to members of foreign intelligence agencies, militant groups, or insurgents, but they
now also consist of university students and business executives (Gebhardt, 2004). Some criminals
and terrorist come from well to do families or high status jobs. For example, Umar Farouk
Abdulmutallab also known as the underwear bomber attempted to harm approximately 300
individuals aboard Northwest Airlines Flight 253 because he stated that he had been directed by al

  • 2. Military Customs Military Customs and Courtesies In the Army and throughout every branch there are certain customs and courtesies that every soldier and military member must follow in order for there to be order and discipline on a daily basis. Customs and courtesies are put in to place to show respect for Non Commissioned Officers and for Officers of all rank. In this essay, I will be writing about the importance of salutes, standing at the correct position when talking to someone higher ranking than yourself, using proper language when talking to someone of a higher rank, where you should walk when walking with someone of a higher rank, as well as other customs and courtesies you find throughout the army and all other branches. A custom is an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Salutes are not required when you are indoors unless you are reporting to an officer or when on guard duty or when saluting is obviously inappropriate. It is important to show noncommissioned officers respect as well. You do not salute them; you stand at parade rest when talking to them and address them by their proper rank. The ranks you say when speaking to a noncommissioned officer are Corporal, sergeant, master sergeant, first sergeant and sergeant major. When talking to an NCO, you always finish your sentence with his or her rank. Here is an example: I do not know the answer but I will find out and let you know Sergeant. It is simple and easy to remember for most soldiers, while other soldiers need to remind themselves constantly to do this. Another military custom from ancient times states that you should always sit or walk to the left of your superiors. This custom came about in old English times and stems from very old English tradition. The right is known as the position of honor. Most people are right handed and back in the time of knights, the majority of knights would hold their sword in their right now and their shield in their left hand. ... • 3. Capital One Capital One Financial Corporation 1. How is Capital One s use of IT different from other mass customization strategies? Capital One uses IT through its information based strategy (IBS) to record, organize, and analyze data on the characteristics and behaviors of their customers, as stated by CEO Richard Fairbank. Their philosophy was to exploit information by constructing scientific models that could be used to both assess the creditworthiness of potential cardholders through FICO scoring, and to customize product offerings for existing ones. This was done through data mining, sorting, customizing offers and marketing campaigns, and then analyzing this data to see what campaigns worked for what reason and what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Behavioral interviews, case interviews, and standardized tests were used to find raw talent without focusing on prior industry or marketing experience. These four things are what separates Capital One from its competition, and will sustain their competitive advantage in the future. 3. What are the consequences of Capital One s IT strategy for expansion into different segments of the credit card industry, and into other industry s? The immediate consequences of their expansion strategy proved the efficiency of their statistical modeling to inhibit Capital One from taking any missteps into industry s that are either saturated or do not allow enough growth in the future. Capital One considered expanding into auto insurance and auto financing, but fierce competition, low margins, and stringent regulation kept them from pursuing this immediately. (Capital One did recently acquire Summit Acceptance Corporation an auto financing company that focused on the sub prime market). Next they looked at the energy and telecom industries, but consumer energy usage patterns are available publicly which kept them from exploring this option further. America One was created which resold blocks of calling time enabling Capital One to gain a foothold in telecom. An ancillary effect of Capital One looking to broaden its horizons into other industries will promote other companies to review their current IT systems to see where their inefficiencies lie, so they can ... • 4. Essay On Goneril In King Lear Goneril in King Lear perfectly exemplifies with this quote how being overly credulous can lead to the downfall of a character. Trust is a complicated issue; people want to believe what others say, and yet it becomes harder to believe as they are let down time and time again. It also manifests itself in many forms, such as mistrust of self or mistrust of others. Trustis a common thread throughout all human history, and yet it has continually proved to be the downfall of everything ranging from great empires to even the smallest of relationships. King Leargives insight into all these themes, with characters mistrusting themselves, mistrusting each other, and the downfall of as something as large as a kingdom and as small as half of a family. From the start, the play presents a man with the most powerful title King Lear himself being confused by trust. Riddled with lapses of dementia in his old age, he invents a little game to divide his kingdom, where his daughters profess their love to him to earn their fair share of the land. Lear fools himself into believing that his two eldest daughters love him, and is incredulous to find out that his favorite daughter does not profess her love as grandly as the other two did. Lear continually fools himself into trusting his daughters, when he tries to visit Goneril, keep his knights, and resorting to visiting Regan. His dementia has brought him to the point where he wants to trust those close to him, but in the end, he is the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Analysis Of I Am Waiting American politics has proved to be flawed in structure over, and over again. Although our founding fathers had the best intentions when they implemented democracy, they like most modern day politicians, failed to actually make things better. Yes we gained our Independence, but with the ability to make our own choices we tend to make childish and impulsive decisions. The election of Donald Trumpstands to be the most recent of those mistakes, and the politicians who work for him are either blinded or full of regret. Poets Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Robert Lowell paint vivid pictures of these very mistakes that seem to recur with the thought of democracy. More often than not we elect our President based on the changes he promises to deliver once in office. Lawrence Ferlinghetti s poem titled I Am Waiting is a perfect example of those broken promises. The poem discusses how he s waiting for the American dream to manifest itself. The dream of freedom and equality in a place where our elected officials actually work for us, rather than against us. You know he s talking about these things in the allusions he makes to the Mayflower and the Western frontier. He says, And I am waiting / for a rebirth of wonder / and I am waiting for someone / to really discover America/ and wail/ The poem ends with Ferlinghetti waiting forever and constantly seeking change similar to American citizens wishing and waiting for the same. The citizens of this beauty we call the United States have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Average Time = 129 x 0.4 + [0.85x119 + 0.15x(25+3+33)] x 0.6 = 129 x0.4 + 110.3x0.6 = 117.78 minutes The total time that a patient spend in clinic (a usual patient, without specification if he/she is new or a follow up), is 117.8 minutes. • 8. An Experience Of A Stereotype Against The Physical Appearance An experience of a stereotype against the physical appearance Recently, UNICEF released a video to promote their campaign for needy children, however it presents a stereotype against the physical appearance rather than the campaign. In the video, a 6 year old girl who dressed pretty and neatly stood alone on a street and many people asked her whether she was all right. Later, when the same girl had changed her appearance in dirty clothes and stood alone again in the same street, nobody asked her whether she was okay. The attitudes that people showed depended on the child s physical appearance. I have a similar experience. The experience that I realized how people are offended by others who judge people based on the physical appearances was when I waited the delayed airplane to go to Korea, a manager ignored me since I didn t dress up neatly, however he changed his attitude politely as soon as he noticed I was a VIP in his company. A few years ago, my mom called me in the night and said urgently, Your grandmother is in a critical condition. I think you will be better to see her before she passes away. I was completely overwhelmed by the unexpected news. My grandmother raised me when I was young because my parents were busy with work, so she was very special to me. As soon as I heard that news, I bought the earliest flight ticket for Korea immediately and rushed to the airport with a baggy hoodie and old sweatpants on. However, the amount of gamma rays produced will be noticeably less than the amount of x rays produced and anything that is sufficient enough to shield from x rays will be more than enough to shield from gamma rays. The only other places radiation can come from are from the top and bottom of the vacuum chamber. Regardless of how much radiation will be coming from the bottom of the chamber it will not affect us because we won t be looking under the chamber or above the chamber most likely when the reactor is running. On top of this both the top of the bottom are being built from aluminum which will stop some radiation. Lastly, a thin sheet of lead, or a some water / dirt can be placed on top or under the container in order to help block the radiation a lot more. Due to the risks that can occur from high radiation levels, a backup plan has been developed in the case of high radiation levels. To start, at the start of the project a Geiger Counter will be purchased in order to keep track of all the radiation and determine whether the radiation ever reaches unsafe levels. Should the radiation level be determined to be harmful, the reactor will be surrounded by material in

In the heart failure, the movement of calcium ions in and out of the cell is no longer effective. These changes in calcium handling lead to alterations in myocyte contraction and relaxation, which will contribute to worsening diastolic dysfunction in heartfailure (Karch, 2013). A biblical worldview foundation is Christ and not us perceiving the world. The biblical worldview is based in our beliefs and seeing the world through Christ s eyes. I will explain different theories of humanity along with the biblical worldview of humanity. I will provide you with a Christian understanding of humanity but I will also show differences and similarities to other interpretations of humanity. The first alternative theoryI want to speak about is the Animal Theory. The animal theory says that the human primarily as a member of the animal kingdom and derived from some of its higher forms. (Erickson, 2015) This view says that we have and will go through the same sort of processes as other animals. It mentions that there is only a one degree difference between animals and us and we will have a similar end. We are not animals because the word of Godsays Let Us make man in Our image, according to our likeness. (Genesis 1:26, New American Standard Bible) If we look at this verse God mentions that we are made on His image. Many argue that the image of God doesn t necessarily mean that we look like Him physically, but that we carry many of His qualities like having dominion over animals. An Academy Award winner, 11 time Grammy winner, and a Peabody recipient, Frank Sinatra led what many consider a successful life. Although he died wealthy, married, and famous, one must wonder if Frank Sinatra was truly happy? Sinatra was known for mood swings which often resulted in fights, and had attempted suicide multiple times ( 8 Things you didn t Know about Frank Sinatra). Just because Frank Sinatra was outwardly successful, does not mean he was happy. Many believe that success is rooted within monetary gain. That to be wealthy is to be successful, or to be powerful, but I believe that holistic success has little to do with one s net worth but rather one s happiness. By extension, success and happiness do not directly correlate. Success is not necessarily monetary gain or popularity, but rather self fulfillment and happiness with one s achievements and choices. As the 19th century English poet, Robert Browning, puts it, Better have failed in the high aim, As I/Than vulgarly in the low aim succeed . In other words, Browning believes that it is more important to fight for achievements that do not only better oneself, but effect change on a deeper level are more honorable, in contrast to the quest for personal gratification. As a Panhellenic community, University of Nebraska gives girls the opportunities to create friendships, form connections, and build strong women. When parents get involved with their children, the children s self esteem rises and they focus more on life. This is because the students feel like they are loved when their parents participate. The main reason children runaway from home and commit suicide is because they feel left out or overwhelmed with life. The mother later uses light as another to interpret imagery in her conversation. The son is told about the downfall of poverty in her home [a]nd sometimes goin in the dark [w]here there ain t been no light (Hughes 1). There have been times where the mother had to live with the lights being off and having to live in the dark. With such a rough past, the mother definitely has many examples to give to her son.
