3. DEFINITION : -
• Urinary catheterization is an aseptic method of introducing the
catheter into the urinary bladder through external urethra for
withdrawal of urine.
4. PURPOSE : -
• To obtain a clear specimen.
• To diagnostic purpose.
• To check the urine output.
• To avoid soiling and infection of the on the genital area.
• To prevent urine passing from over a wound.
5. EQUIPMENT : -
• A sterile tray containing : -
• Catheter not correct size
• Small bowl containing an antiseptic
• Cotton swabs
• Pair of gloves
• Thumb forcep and artery forcep
• Specimen bottle
• Lubricant
• mackintosh and towel
• Bath blanket
• kidney tray
7. 1. INTERMITTENT CATHETER
• These Catheter are inserted several time a day , for
just long enough to Drain your bladder and than
remove

15. PROCEDURE : -
• Scrub hands for a surgical procedure
• Lift the draping sheet back towards abdomen
• Open the sterile tray with aseptic technique
• Place the sterile towel and the slit in position
• Place the sterile kidney tray on the sterile towel in front of the patient
• Lubricant the catheter and place it in the sterile tray ready for insertion

17. • Clean the perinum with the cotton balls dipped in the antiseptic lotion using the
forceps
• Discard the swab in the paper bag and discard the forcep in an anutterable
kidney tray
• Gently insert the catheter about 5 to 7.5 cm female the urine will flow into the
kidney tray
• Collect the urine specimen
