My First Semester Of English
Throughout my first semester of English in college I have gained a significant amount of knowledge
in writing. Each writing assignment encouraged me to use and try new approaches to writing. They
also encouraged me to a take my writings a step further than the previous papers I have written before.
My writing is more academic and formal rather than casual and informal. I have taken the tools that I
have learned throughout the semester and articulated those tools into each writing project. With many
hours of dedication to my papers as a whole, the time that I spent was a time for learning and
advancing the skills and tools I already had from high school.
I was surprised that the papers were not 12 pages as some previous teachers said that was what I was
going to be walking into. Although, 6 pages is still a lot for me, I felt most of the writing projects were
easy to reach the page requirement as they were interesting and fun topics.
Out of the four writing projects that we did, writing project three, the informative and surprising essay,
is the one that challenge me the most. It was a good challenge as I was determined to answer the How
and why is this important to society? question. That question was hard for me to answer but will help
from my peers and learning through class activities I was able to understand and answer the Why and
how? question. Before that paper, I have never had to relate my research to society and write about it.
This specific writing project

Cretaceous-Paleogene Boundary Essay
The Cretaceous Paleogene boundary that occurred around 65 million years ago marks one of the three
largest mass extinctions in the past 500 million years. The hypotheses of Cretaceous Tertiary boundary
impact on YucatƔn Peninsula, Mexico shows evidence in the Gulf of Mexico of turbidity currents, and
giant waves occurring because of the impact. There is also other evidence that impact ejecta were
distributed all over the world. The mineral that was ejected during this impact was iridium. Iridium is
a mineral that is commonly used to indicate a rock layer from the K T boundary. Iridium is only found
naturally on extraterrestrial bodies. In addition to Iridium, shocked quartz is used to indicate the K T
boundary. Shocked quartz is unique and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The four controls for a turbiditie sequence to form are tectonic activity, climate, sedimentary
processes, and sea level fluctuations. The mass of the bolide that impacted the Yucatan Peninsula
would have been large enough to irritate the plates, and possibly catalyze their movements. The
suggested size of the bolide is around 180 kilometers. The climate of the time can be closer examined
by checking the paleontology of rock layers found before and after the K T boundary. Sedimentary
processes and sea level fluctuations could have taken a huge turn, due to the fact that an unexpected
large extraterrestrial body crashed into the Yucatan Peninsula. It is also suggested by geoscientists that
a tsunami about 50 to 100 meters high hit the coast of Texas, which resulted in an unconformity near
Brazos River, Texas. The two major end members of a turbidite are coarse grained to sand rich and
then fine grained to mud rich. These two end members are important because they are used in order to
examine submarine fans. Submarine fans can be geological clues as to what was going on in a
particular layer of

Story line Will Kane (Gary Cooper), the long lasting marshal of Hadleyville in New Mexico Territory,
has quite recently hitched conservative Quaker Amy Fowler (Grace Kelly) and turned in his
identification. He expects to end up a vendor in another town; yet word arrives that Frank Miller (Ian
MacDonald), a criminal conveyed to equity by Kane and sentenced to hang, has been exonerated on
an unspecified legitimate detail. He has promised revenge on Kane, and will be touching base via train
at high twelve. Mill operator s posse his more youthful sibling Ben (Sheb Wooley), Jack Colby (Lee

Kane declines to purchase Pell s help. Kane visits Helen Ramirez (Katy Jurado), who was Miller s
significant other, then Kane s, and now Pell s, to caution her of Miller s fast approaching landing.
Helen knows about the peril; she has sold her business and plans to leave town to maintain a strategic
distance from Miller, and to abstain from seeing Kane murdered. Judge Percy Mettrick (Otto Kruger),
who sentenced Miller, is leaving too, and urges Kane to do likewise. Amy gives Kane a final proposal:
She is leaving on the twelve train, with or without him. Will recovers his identification and scours the
town for help, with little achievement. The marshal who went before him can t assist because of his
cutting edge age. The bar and the congregation yield no volunteers. Numerous townspeople trust that

The Meeting of Spring and Winter
A Narrative Writing Based on the Chippewa Native American Story of the Spring Beauty
At the end of another winter, an old man sat in his lodge which stood on the banks of a frozen river.
The days were not as frigid as they had been in the last three months. His fire was dying, yet the air
was not so cold. He was ancient and solitary. Age had turned his long hair a snowy white, and caused
every bone in his body to creak and groan as he stood up to stroke the glowing embers of his fire. The
days passed slowly as he listened to the sound of the snow whirling outside. One day a beautiful
young woman entered his lodge. Her deep, dark eyes danced and shone, and her cheeks were bright.
She wore a crown of primroses in her raven black hair and wore a beautiful dress strewn with
wildflowers. Her figure was tall, slender, and lithe, and she had a dignified grace about her. Her
movements looked like a weightless dance upon a sunbeam. In her hand she held flowers, which
carried the sweet smelling fragrance of springtime.
I am the Spirit of Spring. The name given to me by the earth s children is Seegwun, said the lovely
visitor.
The old man looked up to meet the girl s eyes, and smiling said, Beautiful one. I cannot tell you how
delighted I am to see you have come to visit again. Come sit here with me by the fire. I will tell you
my own wonderful deeds. Then you

Boeing and Mcdonnell Douglas Merger
Boeing and Airbus; two longtime rivals fighting over market share in an extremely volatile market due
to high research and development costs and constant changes in market demand was the cause for
Boeing to take drastic protective measures. Boeing which at the time was one of the largest
commercial aircraft manufacturer and third largest aerospace defense contractor decided to merge with
McDonnell Douglas. McDonnell Douglas also produces commercial aircraft but held much less of the
market share than Boeing. The intent of this paper is to describe the search and screening process
Boeing used which is broken down in to three categories: legal, financial and operational, discuss the
valuation criteria, analyze the negotiation and bidding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rolinitis (1997) The merged company will have approximately 200,000 employees which included
the recent Boeing merger of Rockwell aerospace and defense units. It will operate with estimated 1997
revenues in excess of $48 billion, making it the largest integrated aerospace company in the world
(The Deal).

Financing
Conclusion
The air craft production industry is one of the most volatile industries due to ever changing supply and
demand and high research and development costs. As the air craft market changed moving towards
more commercial demand and declining defense demand, it became in the best interest for Boeing and
McDonnell Douglas to merge into one joint company making them the largest commercial and
defense air craft production company. There can be quite a bit of issues concerning the merger of two
companies; some concern what is in the best interest of one company and others may include the
concern of not violating trade laws. The purpose of this paper was to describe the search and screen
process and issues; specifically legal, financial, and operational status, discuss the valuation criteria,
valuation and negotiation and bidding processes of the merger between McDonnell Douglas and
Boeing.

My book report was on Esperanza Rising by Pam MuƱoz Ryan. The genre of this book is Historical
Fiction. The publisher is Scholastic. It has a total of 253 pages plus the author s notes. Esperanza
Rising was published in the year of 2000. Some unusual facts about this book was that it had some
Spanish words in it but English after so you know what it means. This book is a Pure Belpre Award
winning book. The Pure Belpre Award means excellent portrayal of Latino experience in children s
literature. I chose this book to read because the author seemed familiar and the cover of the book
really caught my attention including the title.

girl ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The other main character would be Miguel. He s the son of Alfonso and Hortensia, who both work for
Esperanza s family as their servants. They both grew up together on the ranch as kids. The major
conflict in this story starts when a group of bandits captures her papa and kill him and his two evil
greedy stepbrothers take over the land and tries to make mama marry Tio Luis. When she disagrees,
they do everything in their power to make their life difficult. So as the story unfolds, she ends up
marrying him. But they come up with a plan to cross the border and go to the United States so they
can work and get money, and most importantly get away from the horrible life in Mexico because of
the stepbrothers. They all go to California except Abuelita because she wasn t feeling well to get a
better opportunity in advance.
The plot starts out with Esperanza and her papa spending time together. He tells her that the earth is
alive and if you listen closely, you can hear its heartbeat. Esperanza was impatient though. But he tells
her you have to stay still and be quiet. Papa tells her wait a little while and the fruit will fall into your
hand. This was the main theme of the story because it means when you wait, something good will
come. After that she hears it and gets happy. As you read the book, the saying gets repeated. The rising
action of the book would be when papa got murdered by the bandits. The conflict resolution would

Solomon Scale Model Essay
In my model, assessment of athletes, the coaches, and the parents is in constant motion. First, the
coach and consultant have to establish a trustworthy relationship and then as time progresses, each
assessment is more accurate and reliable.
At the beginning, middle, and end of the session, I suggest the coach and consultant use the Solomon
Expectancy Sources Scale to assess the athletes. Along with the knowledge they know from their
sound relationship with each athlete, the coach and consultant can make a more accurate subjective
assessment of each athlete.
The Solomon Scale is an assessment that allows one to asses 30 attributes (such as self discipline, love
of sport, communications, leadership qualities, handling pressure, confidence levels, athleticism,
reaction time, mental maturity, role acceptance, team chemistry, being a hard worker, and receptivity

their best effort with a total focus on the moment to conduct the process? If there is a difference

outcome versus the process. How are the athlete s grades in academics? Do they have goals and

It is evident that Sam Walton believed in the importance of control systems in an organization; as he
established certain strategic control systems in the company. Walton wanted everyone within the
organization to be committed to Wal Mart s goal total customer satisfaction , and the strategic control
systems were set accordingly.
There are various elements of control systems used in Wal Mart which are:

Wal Mart s control systems help achieve the basic building block and high competitive advantage:
Efficiency
One of the control systems in Wal Mart is the financial control system that provided managers with
day to day feedback about the business performance; where the financial performance of each store
and even each department within each store can be tracked and monitored through a sophisticated
companywide satellite system. This control system helps sharing profitability information and
inventory turnover rate among associates; which as a result gives them an in depth insight into the
retailing business and work on improving it.
Furthermore, the above control system helps identifying if there is an underperforming store in the
business in order to take immediate action; where managers and associates meet to find solutions and
raise performance. Besides, top managers pay routine visits to stores with lower performance to lend
their expertise. Another interesting strategy is that every month top managers fly to different Wal Mart
stores in order to inspect their performance, and they meet on Saturdays to discuss financial results
and future implications.
On the other hand, another control system the organization is their rewarding strategy; as they link
their performance and abilities to meet goals and targets to pay raise and promotion.

The Contributions Of Women In The American Civil War .
The Contributions of Women in the American Civil War
The Civil War was a divisive time in American history that tore the country in half for five long years
(1861 1865). After the election of Abraham Lincoln, the southern states seceded from the north and
formed the Confederate States of America because they saw their way of life being threatened. They
wanted to fight for their right to have slaves and for states to have more power. The North (Union)
fought because secession wasn t an option and they needed to preserve the country as a union. Lincoln
called on the men in the North to fight this war, but there was also an estimated 400 to 750 women
who were also soldiers. (civilwar.org) Many women stayed home and worked to maintain their ...

Another woman who was influential in providing the Union with medical support was nurse Clara
Barton. She was one of the main volunteers to first show up at the Washington clinic to watch over
injured Union officers. After her dad s passing, Barton left the city clinics to go among the officers in
the field. She was able to bring three wagons full of medical supplies to the Union soldiers at the
Battle of Antietam which is known as the bloodiest single day battle in American History. Through
that battle she gathered men and directed them to get water, prepare food, and perform any first aid
necessary for the injured soldiers. Many of the supplies and transportation need for the Union was
provided by Barton herself or donations she was able to get. These are just two of the thousands of
women nurses who aided the Union to succeed in critical battles of the American Civil War.
Women were often underestimated which made them perfect to act as spies and gather information
that benefited the Union. One of the best was spy Elizabeth Van Lew, an important figure in

Freud s Theory Of Psychosexual Stages Of Development And...
Abstract
Freud s theory of psychosexual stages of development and Costa and McCrae s Five Factor model
were compared to assess the personality of a woman named Judy, experiencing difficulty in her
primary relationships and day to day functioning. The main purposes of the study is to explain how
each theorist would assess Judy s behavior and identify the strengths and weaknesses of each approach
and further the differences and any similarities found. The key strength of Costa and McCrae s model
was providing a detailed and structured analysis of personality that is scientifically based however was
limited in explaining the origin of Judy s personality. Freud s observational method using the
Rorschach has little scientific evidence however his theory did provide explanations for how Jane s
personality developed. While there were many differences some similarities were also found with the
most interesting that final assessments were similar, with a possible same diagnosis which indicated
that even across two every different theories and theorists there is agreement in how personality is
ultimately assessed.
Compared Personality Assessment using Freud s Psychosexual Stages theory and Costa and McCrae s
Five Factor Model
In assessment of this case study about Judy, Costa and McCrae s trait theory and Freud s
psychoanalytic theory will be considered and compared. Personality assessment s purpose is to

Book Thief Book Report
The first thing most young readers will notice about the novel, The Book Thief, written by Markus
Zusak is its thickness. This book is made up of 550 compelling yet devastatingly sad pages. This book
may be hard to read for some people as it is a story about a young girl and her family during the time
of Nazi Germany. Although this is a sensitive topic for many, Markus found a way to creatively allow
it to be tolerable for everyone. The book is so intense that it is actually narrated by Death. I personally
did not pick up on this concept that Death was the narrator. I was actually told by a couple of friends,
and ended up appreciating that they had told me. This concept may be hard for less observant readers
to pick up on, but it is a big ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her thievery begins when she steals her first book at her brother s funeral shortly before she arrives at
the Hubermann s. The book is titled The Grave Digger s Handbook, fitting for a funeral. The thievery
would continue throughout the story, and she would learn to read and write because of them. Her love
for books helped her cope with her losses but sometimes sidetracked her in school. Books took
everything off of her mind. She would continue to steal books, and once she had built a relationship
with the mayor s wife, she capitalized on that as well, stealing from her library. Reading had built her
relationships, and had conforted her along with many other families and people on Himmel Street. In
times of terror, when the town was bombed, she began to read to the families in the bomb shelters.
This eventually benefitted her family when she is asked to read a weekly chapter to the neighbor Frau

Essay on crusades
Crusading, much like Imperialism in the 20th century, was all about expansion. During the middle
ages however, it was more about the expansion of religion rather then power, or at least that s the way
it was preached. Crusading by definition is; a holy war authorized by the pope, who proclaimed it in
the name of god of Christ. It was believed to be Christ s own enterprise, legitimized by his personal
mandate (1). This essay examines the background of the crusades to offer a better understanding as to
why they occurred. It also examines the effects that the crusades had on the world. It is easy to look at
the crusades as a violent meaningless act, but one must understand the type of setting this movement

Knights would go in the hope of acquiring power and control over this new land. The chance at
commercial success in new places was a huge determining factor for the western merchants of the day.
Adventure, money, land, and religion were all big reasons for participating in the Crusades of the
Middle Ages (4).
The first Crusade began on November 27th 1095, as a response to the attack on the Byzantine Empire
by the Muslims. Pope Urban II inspired many clergy and laypeople to join the crusading force. There
was much excitement for the new adventure that awaited the people of Europe. They united at the
Byzantine capital of Constantinople and launched a counter attack against the Seljuk conquerors of
Anatolia. They then fought and overtook many city states belonging to the Byzantine Empire with
final destination Jerusalem, in their sights (5). The Majority of people who joined the crusades were
from France, with others coming from Lorraine, Burgundy, Flanders, and Italy. Many common people
were interested in crusading as well as noble individuals. The reason for this was the chance of finding
and claiming any land once they had overtaken parts of the Middle East (6). The crusaders enjoyed
considerable success during their first couple of years. In only their first month of crusading they
conquered Anatolia in the year 1097. During the same year they won a decisive victory over the Turks,

King Edward I Of Scotland Research Paper
Scotland during the 13th Century was in conflict with England, since England wanted to control
Scotland. The Scots were having a tough time recovering from the death of the Maid of Norway, who
had been the heir to the throne of Alexander III. The dynasty had traced its roots back through Duncan
to Malcolm II had ended, so the Scottish Throne was up for grabs. King Edward I of England saw an
opportunity and took it. Therefore, though there was a king (of sorts) on the Scottish throne named
John Balliol, King Edward I of England held the real power over Scotland, and he didn t have
Scotland s best interests at heart.

Cause And Effect On Gun Crime
Next, the comparison of countries and cities that have reduced legal gun ownership with those that had
an increase in legal gun ownership will show how crime was affected. In 1998, the United Kingdom
put the Firearms Act in place as an answer to a shooting spree at a primary school in Dunblane,
Scotland. The act banned all private citizens from owning handguns. According to Joyce Lee
Malcolm, a law professor at George Mason University, violent crime increased after the law was
instated (Domenech 28). Whereas, in the United States, an increase in legal gun ownership has seen a
decrease in overall crime rate. Based off of a report from the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics in 2013,
200 million guns were legally owned in the nation in 1994 compared to the 300 million legally owned
guns in 2013 yet there were 1.3 million violent crimes involving ļ¬rearms in 1994 compared to the
estimate of 350,000 violent crimes involving ļ¬rearms in 2011 (Domench 28). In short, the data shows
that gun prohibiting policies do not always lead to a decrease in violent crime. On the contrary they
can correlate to an increase in crime.
Although, some in the anti gun group will reason that because America has one of the highest gun
crime rates in the world while Europe s gun crime is relatively low, American society should not allow
citizens to own guns. This may be true of course; however stricter gun ownership laws and crime
increase is not conclusive. As Mauser states in Would Banning Firearms

The Year Is 2008, And Bad Banking Practices Have Led Major
The year is 2008, and bad banking practices have led major companies such as Goldman Sachs,
Merrill Lynch, and AIG to near bankruptcy. There seems to be no way to stop the impending financial
crisis. But out of nowhere comes the Federal Reserve, with 7.7 trillion dollars of zero interest loans.
All looks well, until the housing market collapses. So what was the point of creating 7.7 trillion
dollars in assets if an economic recession would still occur? Why would the Fed bail out big
businesses at the expense of the taxpayer? The answer lies in the reckless, unconstitutional policies of
the Federal Reserve. The Fed bails out big banks and companies, unconstitutionally prints money, and
leads the dollar to its collapse. During the 2008 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With all that being said, the mortgages that were rated as excellent were actually bad for homebuyers.
To the homebuyers surprise, the interest rates rose and they could no longer afford to pay their
mortgages. This meant that the investors lost their money and subsequently stopped buying these
mortgage backed securities. This sent housing prices falling by thirty percent and the stock market
falling by fifty percent, and also led to nine million jobs being lost. Some of companies involved in
the mortgages, such as AIG, almost went bankrupt as a result. AIG lost all their money because they
insured these bad mortgages and had no money to pay for all the mortgages they insured. These
companies did this because they knew the Fed would always have their backs. Because the Fed bailed
these businesses out, they were essentially allowed to keep making money off of these bad banking
practices. According to Mike Collins, an editor at Forbes Magazine, the actual bailout of these
businesses turned out to cost $7.7 trillion, about the same as the US national debt at the time. Without
the Fed, the free market would have let these businesses collapse, allowing new and better businesses
to take their place, or even better, keep companies from using these bad practices in the first place.
After spending all this money to bail out big businesses, it would be expected that the average person
would have benefitted from this bailout. In

Varmint shooting is a lot different from hunting or sport shooting. It requires you to be quick and alert.
It also means that you need a good rifle and scope backing you up. If you are looking for the best
varmint scope and varmint caliber available, you should read this review.
Best Rifle Scope and Caliber for Varmint Hunting
When it comes to varmint hunting all bets are off. You need a gun that can handle shots that are close
up and far away if you want to catch an animal that depends on its own senses to keep it alive or out of
danger. If they sense you are there, they will take off running and it really does not matter whether you
are battling coyotes on your farm or out in the wild. Therefore, if you want a good rifle to catch them,
you need to know that your rifle provides ample power and one that you can feel certain is always
going to aim true. You will want it to be a gun that you simply hold up and ... Show more content on

Many people suggest that you do not go with a cheap scope because it may not allow you to aim
quickly, but this does not mean you need to purchase one that has all the unique features that are
available today for scopes. This means you could pay anywhere from $100 to a $1000, but unless you
have a huge varmint problem or it is the only hunting you are interested in, you may not need the
scopes that are over a grand. It is also perhaps why one of the most popular scopes for varmint hunting
is nowhere near that pricy. If you want to see more about the average price, you should look at the
reviews below. Who knows, with a little help, perhaps you can build the best varmint rifle for the
money.
Leupold VX 6 Side Focus 30mm Scope
This is an illuminated varmint hunter that has a 3 18x50mm side focus. It does aim true and prove to
be accurate, but it is one of the more expensive varmint scopes available through Amazon.

The Black Panther Party s Legacy
The recollection of the Black Panther Party s legacy more than often remains to linger on in the
collective memory as a group of armed leather clad radicals of the 1960 s. Although this memory is
true, the Black Panther Party in actuality had more substance than just their attire. They were a
political organization that reinforced human rights, they were leaders of self defense against a police
state that relentlessly brutalized black bodies, and caretakers of poor black communities that were
receiving little to no attention by the state. They were an organization in bloom looking to create
solidarity and heal within the black community by whatever means necessary. The Black Panther
Party is believed to be a revolutionary force that has helped shape movements of today. Within this
analysis we would like to unearth the history of the Black Panther Party including its origins, their
struggles, ultimate demise, and contributions to movements of the contemporary world. We feel that it
is important to rediscover this information because most of the occurrences that had appeared in the
1960 s against black bodies continues to this day. It is our duty to learn from our teachers, like those
members of the Black Panther Party, in order to educate ourselves on how to create a better future. It
all started in the fall of 1966 in Oakland California when two young intelligent black male students of
Merritt Junior College questioned America s ethics. These two young

Aquaculture Is The Cultivation Of Sea Creatures ( Finfish...
Background What is Aquaculture? Aquaculture is the wide term used to describe the cultivation of sea
creatures. An example of aquaculture is fish farming. In Canada, the activities of aquaculture are
practised in all provinces. However, if we look at the species each province produces (Figure 1 1),
operations of coastal provinces have more variety on what they produce. It is easy to see why
operations are more focused on the top producers in Canada: British Columbia, New Brunswick, and
Newfoundland and Labrador (Figure 1 2). What type of economic activity does aquaculture provide?
Essentially, aquaculture is considered as a primary industry in the economic sector. This means that
aquaculture s main service is the production of goods, in this case, aquatic life. Aquaculture is unique
as it does not harvest wild marine animals, compared to commercialized fishing. Instead, aquaculture
focuses on farming the species of aquatic creatures (Finfish and shellfish). This economic activity
provides a product of resource that is cultivated without damaging the population of aquatic life found
naturally in the wild and provides a different alternative when it comes to the production of the
renewable resources of fish in Canada. In Canadian aquaculture, there are a variety of methods
involving the farming of aquatic life because of location. The oldest method is with the net pen system
(Figure 1 3). This type of aquaculture involves containing fish in a net that suspends around

The Importance Of Term Limits Of Judges
Recorder Philip Cattan, a respected Manchester barrister who sits as a judge part time, was seen to nod
off as ran under aged victim answered questions from the defense (Ollie Mcateer September 21st
2015). The Supreme Court is a very important part to our U.S government. The court decides the
legality of our laws, and how lives are effected by them: therefore we need to have active and
healthier judges that have some experience and know what they are doing. There are many reasons
why term limits should be put into action. In our Supreme Court most judges are aged or in their late
prime, due to the fact that we don t have a limit on how long a person can run as a judge. Judges in
their prime have a higher and faster thinking rate while their young for example, people are in much
sharper shape mental in their 40s,50s,60s, than 70s,80s,90s (Christopher Ingraham Febuary,13,2016).
Elderly people can lose their shine they had when they were young once they hit a certain age. They
can also get diagnosed with a sickness such as amnesia which can cause you to lose your memory
fairly easy. Health issues can really tamper with how you preform and results can end up bad. ... Show

If we change term limits to the least of 10 years it would provide fresher ideas and decisions and not
the same decisions constantly. If we change races or ages in our supreme court it would give different

like he or she wants too. Newer thoughts from everybody improves how we function (Winter 1991

The Case That Moved America
Working Title: The case that moved America Any child denied entry to any school due to their
ethnicity is automatically put at a disadvantage compared to other children. This case was originally
five different cases in different parts of the United States. These cases were all compounded into one
when appealed to the Supreme Court. Brown v. Board is the most historical revolutionary Civil Rights
case due to it forever changing the manner in which different races in America interact with each
other. Children segregated from other children because of their skin color not only causes them to be
more insecure, but it also causes a large knowledge gap between the segregated parties. Children who
are separated from others because of their skin color grow to develop their own insecurities and
diffidence. After reviewing psychological studies showing black girls in segregated schools had low
racial self esteem, the Court concluded that separating children on the basis of race creates dangerous
inferiority complexes that may adversely affect black children s ability to learn (PBS). Races being
divided by these social barriers create a disparity between them. It is unequal for children of different
races to be separated. Equal education is required in order to give all children an equal chance at
success and making differences. Public education in the 20th century, said the Court, had become an
essential component of a citizen s public life, forming the basis of democratic

Breakthrough Perspective on Green and Sustainable...
Buildings have been part of human life since the beginning of time, we depend of them to live, learn,
grown, for protection and shelter. The decisions we make today will not only affect our future but our
surrounding as well. We need buildings to survive the climates of the earth and to live our own lives.
Architecture is what nature cannot make, yet it is influenced by the rules of nature, as humans evolved
so did our way of thinking, and so did our architecture. Green architecture is a breakthrough in human
history, Green Architecture is more a more advanced way of building, it has if the building as a life.

Society and its positive effects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The LEED criteria are recognized as the building having a positive performance in five areas of
human and environmental health, therefore making the building safer and healthier to live in. When
we think sustainability, it s important that we consider the surrounding, for examples the trees, rivers
and lakes, streets, neighbors and more. The impact of architecture is not only for the building but for
its natural surroundings, by taking advantage of each natural source, to have the building sustain itself
in terms of reducing energy use, taking advantage of storm water and using that for flushing toilets,
using sun light to warm the room and so forth. Sustainability also refers to the life of the building
itself, how long will the building last after it s finished. Green buildings are made of recyclable
material that help the building last longer in structure, its feature is what make it unique to last longer
than average buildings.
Benefits of Green Buildings
Green Buildings have become more than just buildings; they have become a structural living
organism. Green Buildings offer a safer and healthier living environment for the occupants; this can
contribute to an increase in human lifespan, due to minimum exposure to chemical paint materials and
more. They also reduce energy bills due to the features incorporated such as solar panels, which
generate energy by solar radiation. An open glazing design building that offers maximum sunlight into
the building can

Galactic Empire Research Paper
The Galactic Empire is the largest military force in the galaxy, with their only opposition being the
Rebel Alliance. The AT AT Walker is arguably the most powerful terrestrial vehicle at the disposal of
the Galactic Empire. The Empire employs the AT AT onto the battlefield as both a troop transport and
an assault craft. The AT AT has been deployed in multiple battlefield environments, including the
assault on Hoth and defense of the forest moon of Endor, with deadly effect. The AT AT is used when
the Empire needs to assault an enemy position, or when a large amount of enemies need taken out.

One such weakness is its inability to attack anything behind its main body. The walker would have to
turn completely around to engage a target behind it thus exposing itself to the direction it was
previously facing. One of the most commonly exploited weaknesses of the AT AT is it high center of
gravity, making it top heavy. One example of the rebels taking advantage of this weakness is when the
Empire assaulted Hoth. Rebel snow speeders attached tow lines toe the walker s legs and wrapped the
line around it until the walker got snagged and toppled over. The walker also has a hard time attacking
more than one target at a time. Another weakness is the flexible tunnel that runs between the cargo and
troop areas of the craft and the head. One direct blast to this tunnel detonated the entire AT AT. The
platting on the underbelly of the walker is slightly weaker and easier to damage. The AT AT also has
no way to protect against troops beneath its main body, where the lightly armored hatch can be easily
cut free and sabotaged. One other big weakness in the design of the AT AT is the fact that it is very
slow compared to the smaller AT ST. Also the terrain it is in can limit it much farther, with it moving
at its fastest on flat smooth ground and its slowest on steep rocky inclines, and heavily forested areas
like the moon of Endor where its usage was far less than the

Oxidative Coupling Of Alkyne Lab Report
Oxidative coupling of alkynes using the Glaser Eglinton Hay reaction

Fadwa Mekkaoui
Introduction/Procedure:
Oxidative coupling of alkynes is a method in which an oxidizing agent is used to eliminate a hydrogen
from an alkene, causing a carbon carbon bond to be made. A catalyst is used in order to speed up a
reaction by lowering the activation energy. The solvent used is 2 proponal and a chelating reagent,
tetramethylethylenediamine (TMEDA), is used to help CuCl dissolve in solvent. The experiment uses
techniques such as recrystallization, TLC, and infrared spectroscopy. This experiment is incredibly
green, since air is used as an oxygen resource and has no cost. CuCl is used a catalyst and a green
solvent, 2 propanol, is also used as a reaction medium which is a greener solvent.

Analysis Of The Book King Leopold s Ghost
King Leopold s Ghost is a nonfiction book about Imperialism in Africa written by Adam Hochschild.
Hochschild was born in New York in 1942 and graduated from Harvard in 1963 with a B.A. degree in
history and literature (Interview with Adam Hochschild). He worked as a reporter for a daily
newspaper for two years and then he went on to writing and editing magazines. In 1986 he wrote his
first book, and then twelve years later he wrote his second: King Leopold s Ghost. Hochschild said he
writes about subjects he s interested in. In the introduction to King Leopold s Ghost he states that he
knew nothing about the history of the Congo until he noticed a footnote in a book (Hochschild 3).
Hochschild said that when you come across something striking, you remember where you were when
you read it. In this particular experience he was in an airliner crossing the United States. He read a
quotation by Mark Twain about the caliber of what happened in the Congo and was startled (3), this
sparked his interest in the Congo and inspired him to start researching to see if the mass murders he
read about were true. The book, King Leopold s Ghost covers information from the 1840s (Hochschild
21) to now about the Congo past and present, but King Leopold s reign of terror was from 1885 1906
(History of the Belgian Congo). The phrase reign of terror is not an exaggeration, for King Leopold s
ownership of the Congo was very horrific. It all started when Henry Morton Stanley went in search of

South Afric A Country Of The Country
Many years ago, Africa grew several powers from the control of European countries. The Western
countries send emissaries to explore and establish trade with native, but in that case same other attract
on working people having come there to work and live and to government the country when they
need. The word imperializem in my attention came as a domination by one country of the political,
economic or cultural life of another country. We have to be clear with what happened in Africa and the
region which represents a great rich country for materials and get attention of many European country
for goods and wealth potential. Europian estabilished colonies in the African coastal region became
more aggresive later on once they were expanding into other lands. We can see that in the names
Africa s countries have under the colony. For example, the Belgian Congo instead of The Congo,
Anglo Egypyian Sudan istead of Sudan, or German Southwest Africa Namibia insted of Namibi.
Those countries have both Europian and African names which means that they belong and under
which power rule they are. However, The African countries nowadays tried to take way the kind of
patterns they have, but the Congo, Cameroon and Central African Republic are still suffering from the
legacies of western imperialism. The Congo has a very interesting story behind it. The King of
Belgium was given the Congo during the Berlin Conference. He used the Congo as a storage place for

What Is The Creation Of The Odyssey
The Odyssey
The Odyssey retains information pertaining to the identity of the author, genre, original language, and
intended audience, but it is shrouded in speculation when it comes to the provenance of the text and
bibliographic information of the author. It is certain that the author is Homer, and the genre of his
creation is classified as an epic poem which is a long story about hero who is most likely involved in a
great war. Along with that information, it is known that the original language is Greek, and the simple
and direct nature of the text reveals that The Odyssey was intended for the common Greek people. The

How Do You Think the Asian Passenger Air Transport...
The Asian passenger air transport marketplace will stable and growing rapidly.
The latest Airbus Global Market Forecast (GMF), released in December 2010, shows that key drivers
for the marketplace are the replacement of aircraft for newer more eco efficient models in mature
markets, dynamic growth in new emerging markets, the further growth of low cost carriers particularly
in Asia Pacific and Europe, further market liberalisation and capacity growth on existing routes.
In 2010, views on whether low fare airlines would continue to flourish in Asia varied. Three factors

Surcharges and baggage fees covered some of this but the airline was conscious that if it loaded on the
full charge, it might find no demand on some flights due to a high base price (e.g. minimum or zero
fare plus taxes, fees and surcharges). To offset this eventuality, AirAsia did a lot to improve operations
and efficiency and also saw the benefits of the fuel efficient Airbus 320 help to maintain its low fares
brand position.
To retain its cost advantage in the wake of the global recession, AirAsia entered into an alliance in
January 2010 with Jetstar, the low fare subsidiary of Australia s flag carrier, Qantas. This was the first
time two leading budget airlines had collaborated in this fashion. The alliance allowed the companies
to explore joint aircraft purchasing, passenger and ground handling services cooperation and the
transportation of each other s passengers in the event of a disruption. Assuming the focus of the
alliance was on cost sharing for services and aircraft procurement, it might prove effective.
AirAsia had played the game very well and had ambitious growth plans to keep ahead of the pack.
Time would tell if Fernandes and his team could maintain the company s position as Asia s or perhaps

Poverty Is A Global Concern And Its Eradication
Poverty is a global concern and its eradication is becoming surmountable. This is primarily due to the
challenges posed by international and national causes respectively. Besides, the complexity of the
phenomenon has not lend itself to be easily eradicated. Little wonder the world continues to struggle
to eradicate poverty. Africa is one of the poorest countries on the universe and research and data show
that Sierra Leone is one of the poorest countries in Sub Sahara (UNDP, 2015). Sierra Leone s poverty
has been a growing concern in spite of its numerous natural resources and international financial and
economic interventions. It is therefore worth investigating the trends of the country s poverty and how
it has impacted its people in the country.
Therefore, task of this paper is to examine the trend in which poverty in Sierra Leone is either
changing or stagnating and the disadvantages associated with poverty among children. Consideration
will also be given to policy in relation to the findings.
The first part of the essay will give a summary of the historical background of the country. This
chapter will throw light into the socio political and economic foundations of Sierra Leone.
Chapter two of the essay will concentrate on the definition of poverty as perceived by different
authors. These definitions throw light into the different perspectives of poverty and discuss various

Engstrom Auto Mirror Plant Essay
Issues/Problem
In the Engstrom Auto Mirror Plant case, the main problem is the lack of employee motivation. There
are a few issues that contributed to this main problem. First issue would be an unnecessary extrinsic
motivator of bonuses to the Scanlon Plan. Originally, workers had intrinsic motivation from
communication meetings, which provides feedback for the company. However with the additional
extrinsic motivator, employees find the tasks over sufficiently justified under the self perception effect
so intrinsic value would be lowered. When bonuses stopped, employees lost motivation to work.
Another issue would be about the equity theory. In the plan, workers earn the same amount from the
bonuses regardless of the effort implemented. Therefore some Engstrom workers lost motivation since
supervisors work less but are still paid equally. This resulted in many workers complaining due to an
inequality of ratios. The last issue in the Scanlon Plan occurred when the company decided to lay
people off. Employees ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

extrinsic motivator, teamwork is encouraged and the E P O link would be tightened. However intrinsic
motivation goes down and there is conflict between teams.
Management could abolish the Scanlon Plan and advocate an individually based incentive plan.
Workers would earn bonuses according to their personal performances. This would be a great extrinsic

The Effects Of Drinking Water On Water Quality
Drinking water is a simple idea but such a hard process to master. The water in our lakes and rivers is
not safe to drink due to the toxins from vehicles, industrial plants, and natural sources. It is sad how
much we take drinking water for granted. In many countries around the world, they do not have easy
access to drinking water like we do here in America. In today s society, when we receive water from a
lake or river, it must be treated and cleaned before people can drink it. The drinking water quality has
three main properties that give its ability to clean and be able to drink that will not get people sick.
These three properties include the chemical makeup, physical properties, and the biological properties
of the water quality. The first step of improving the water quality is by using chemicals to clean and
get rid of the toxins that might be in the water. Water is a made up of many different chemicals.
According to (Scatena 2000), as water across the landscape, it interacts with its environment through a
variety of chemical processes, during these processes it picks up transported dissolved gases, cations
and anions, amorphous organics, trace metals, and particulates. Dissolved Gases are the most
abundant on the earth in water. Aquatic life depends on the dissolved oxygen in the water to live but it
also effects the color, taste, odor and chemistry. Natural organic compounds consist of plant and

Galat et al (2009) conducted a retrospective analysis of 17,784 primary total knees
replacements and report that the incidence of wound complications requiring surgical
treatment was 0.33%. Gaine et al reported that the incidence of superficial infection and
early deep infections following joint replacement were 14.3% and 1.1% respectively.
We could identify several classification systems for leaky wounds. However, these
classification systems have been devised by individual authors, which have not been
repeated between papers. To be specific there is no universally accepted classification
system.
The leaky wounds often lead to treatment dilemma, prolonged hospital stay and
delayed return to activity (Gaine et al). Besides, it causes stress to the patient and the

  • 2. My First Semester Of English Throughout my first semester of English in college I have gained a significant amount of knowledge in writing. Each writing assignment encouraged me to use and try new approaches to writing. They also encouraged me to a take my writings a step further than the previous papers I have written before. My writing is more academic and formal rather than casual and informal. I have taken the tools that I have learned throughout the semester and articulated those tools into each writing project. With many hours of dedication to my papers as a whole, the time that I spent was a time for learning and advancing the skills and tools I already had from high school. I was surprised that the papers were not 12 pages as some previous teachers said that was what I was going to be walking into. Although, 6 pages is still a lot for me, I felt most of the writing projects were easy to reach the page requirement as they were interesting and fun topics. Out of the four writing projects that we did, writing project three, the informative and surprising essay, is the one that challenge me the most. It was a good challenge as I was determined to answer the How and why is this important to society? question. That question was hard for me to answer but will help from my peers and learning through class activities I was able to understand and answer the Why and how? question. Before that paper, I have never had to relate my research to society and write about it. This specific writing project ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Cretaceous-Paleogene Boundary Essay The Cretaceous Paleogene boundary that occurred around 65 million years ago marks one of the three largest mass extinctions in the past 500 million years. The hypotheses of Cretaceous Tertiary boundary impact on YucatĆ”n Peninsula, Mexico shows evidence in the Gulf of Mexico of turbidity currents, and giant waves occurring because of the impact. There is also other evidence that impact ejecta were distributed all over the world. The mineral that was ejected during this impact was iridium. Iridium is a mineral that is commonly used to indicate a rock layer from the K T boundary. Iridium is only found naturally on extraterrestrial bodies. In addition to Iridium, shocked quartz is used to indicate the K T boundary. Shocked quartz is unique and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The four controls for a turbiditie sequence to form are tectonic activity, climate, sedimentary processes, and sea level fluctuations. The mass of the bolide that impacted the Yucatan Peninsula would have been large enough to irritate the plates, and possibly catalyze their movements. The suggested size of the bolide is around 180 kilometers. The climate of the time can be closer examined by checking the paleontology of rock layers found before and after the K T boundary. Sedimentary processes and sea level fluctuations could have taken a huge turn, due to the fact that an unexpected large extraterrestrial body crashed into the Yucatan Peninsula. It is also suggested by geoscientists that a tsunami about 50 to 100 meters high hit the coast of Texas, which resulted in an unconformity near Brazos River, Texas. The two major end members of a turbidite are coarse grained to sand rich and then fine grained to mud rich. These two end members are important because they are used in order to examine submarine fans. Submarine fans can be geological clues as to what was going on in a particular layer of ... Story line Will Kane (Gary Cooper), the long lasting marshal of Hadleyville in New Mexico Territory, has quite recently hitched conservative Quaker Amy Fowler (Grace Kelly) and turned in his identification. He expects to end up a vendor in another town; yet word arrives that Frank Miller (Ian MacDonald), a criminal conveyed to equity by Kane and sentenced to hang, has been exonerated on an unspecified legitimate detail. He has promised revenge on Kane, and will be touching base via train at high twelve. Helen knows about the peril; she has sold her business and plans to leave town to maintain a strategic distance from Miller, and to abstain from seeing Kane murdered. Judge Percy Mettrick (Otto Kruger), who sentenced Miller, is leaving too, and urges Kane to do likewise. Amy gives Kane a final proposal: She is leaving on the twelve train, with or without him. • 5. The Meeting Of Spring And Winter Mary Katherine Grondin Mrs. Dinsmore Honors American Literature 11 September 2014 The Meeting of Spring and Winter A Narrative Writing Based on the Chippewa Native American Story of the Spring Beauty At the end of another winter, an old man sat in his lodge which stood on the banks of a frozen river. The days were not as frigid as they had been in the last three months. His fire was dying, yet the air was not so cold. He was ancient and solitary. Age had turned his long hair a snowy white, and caused every bone in his body to creak and groan as he stood up to stroke the glowing embers of his fire. The days passed slowly as he listened to the sound of the snow whirling outside. One day a beautiful young woman entered his lodge. Her deep, dark eyes danced and shone, and her cheeks were bright. She wore a crown of primroses in her raven black hair and wore a beautiful dress strewn with wildflowers. Her figure was tall, slender, and lithe, and she had a dignified grace about her. Her movements looked like a weightless dance upon a sunbeam. In her hand she held flowers, which carried the sweet smelling fragrance of springtime. I am the Spirit of Spring. The name given to me by the earth s children is Seegwun, said the lovely visitor. The old man looked up to meet the girl s eyes, and smiling said, Beautiful one. I cannot tell you how delighted I am to see you have come to visit again. Come sit here with me by the fire. I will tell you my own wonderful deeds. Then you ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As the air craft market changed moving towards more commercial demand and declining defense demand, it became in the best interest for Boeing and McDonnell Douglas to merge into one joint company making them the largest commercial and defense air craft production company. There can be quite a bit of issues concerning the merger of two companies; some concern what is in the best interest of one company and others may include the concern of not violating trade laws. First, the coach and consultant have to establish a trustworthy relationship and then as time progresses, each assessment is more accurate and reliable. At the beginning, middle, and end of the session, I suggest the coach and consultant use the Solomon Expectancy Sources Scale to assess the athletes. Along with the knowledge they know from their sound relationship with each athlete, the coach and consultant can make a more accurate subjective assessment of each athlete. The Solomon Scale is an assessment that allows one to asses 30 attributes (such as self discipline, love of sport, communications, leadership qualities, handling pressure, confidence levels, athleticism, reaction time, mental maturity, role acceptance, team chemistry, being a hard worker, and receptivity to coaching, to name ... This control system helps sharing profitability information and inventory turnover rate among associates; which as a result gives them an in depth insight into the retailing business and work on improving it. Furthermore, the above control system helps identifying if there is an underperforming store in the business in order to take immediate action; where managers and associates meet to find solutions and raise performance. Besides, top managers pay routine visits to stores with lower performance to lend their expertise. Another interesting strategy is that every month top managers fly to different Wal Mart stores in order to inspect their performance, and they meet on Saturdays to discuss financial results and future implications. The Contributions of Women in the American Civil War The Civil War was a divisive time in American history that tore the country in half for five long years (1861 1865). Abstract Freud s theory of psychosexual stages of development and Costa and McCrae s Five Factor model were compared to assess the personality of a woman named Judy, experiencing difficulty in her primary relationships and day to day functioning. The main purposes of the study is to explain how each theorist would assess Judy s behavior and identify the strengths and weaknesses of each approach and further the differences and any similarities found. The key strength of Costa and McCrae s model was providing a detailed and structured analysis of personality that is scientifically based however was limited in explaining the origin of Judy s personality. Freud s observational method using the Rorschach has little scientific evidence however his theory did provide explanations for how Jane s personality developed. While there were many differences some similarities were also found with the most interesting that final assessments were similar, with a possible same diagnosis which indicated that even across two every different theories and theorists there is agreement in how personality is ultimately assessed. Compared Personality Assessment using Freud s Psychosexual Stages theory and Costa and McCrae s Five Factor Model In assessment of this case study about Judy, Costa and McCrae s trait theory and Freud s psychoanalytic theory will be considered and compared. This book is made up of 550 compelling yet devastatingly sad pages. This book may be hard to read for some people as it is a story about a young girl and her family during the time of Nazi Germany. Although this is a sensitive topic for many, Markus found a way to creatively allow it to be tolerable for everyone. The book is so intense that it is actually narrated by Death. I personally did not pick up on this concept that Death was the narrator. I was actually told by a couple of friends, and ended up appreciating that they had told me. • 15. Essay on crusades Crusading, much like Imperialism in the 20th century, was all about expansion. During the middle ages however, it was more about the expansion of religion rather then power, or at least that s the way it was preached. Crusading by definition is; a holy war authorized by the pope, who proclaimed it in the name of god of Christ. It was believed to be Christ s own enterprise, legitimized by his personal mandate (1). This essay examines the background of the crusades to offer a better understanding as to why they occurred. It also examines the effects that the crusades had on the world. Knights would go in the hope of acquiring power and control over this new land. The chance at commercial success in new places was a huge determining factor for the western merchants of the day. Adventure, money, land, and religion were all big reasons for participating in the Crusades of the Middle Ages (4). The first Crusade began on November 27th 1095, as a response to the attack on the Byzantine Empire by the Muslims. Pope Urban II inspired many clergy and laypeople to join the crusading force. There was much excitement for the new adventure that awaited the people of Europe. They united at the Byzantine capital of Constantinople and launched a counter attack against the Seljuk conquerors of Anatolia. They then fought and overtook many city states belonging to the Byzantine Empire with final destination Jerusalem, in their sights (5). The Majority of people who joined the crusades were from France, with others coming from Lorraine, Burgundy, Flanders, and Italy. Many common people were interested in crusading as well as noble individuals. The reason for this was the chance of finding and claiming any land once they had overtaken parts of the Middle East (6). The crusaders enjoyed considerable success during their first couple of years. In only their first month of crusading they conquered Anatolia in the year 1097. • 18. Cause And Effect On Gun Crime Next, the comparison of countries and cities that have reduced legal gun ownership with those that had an increase in legal gun ownership will show how crime was affected. In 1998, the United Kingdom put the Firearms Act in place as an answer to a shooting spree at a primary school in Dunblane, Scotland. The act banned all private citizens from owning handguns. According to Joyce Lee Malcolm, a law professor at George Mason University, violent crime increased after the law was instated (Domenech 28). Whereas, in the United States, an increase in legal gun ownership has seen a decrease in overall crime rate. Based off of a report from the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics in 2013, 200 million guns were legally owned in the nation in 1994 compared to the 300 million legally owned guns in 2013 yet there were 1.3 million violent crimes involving ļ¬rearms in 1994 compared to the estimate of 350,000 violent crimes involving ļ¬rearms in 2011 (Domench 28). In short, the data shows that gun prohibiting policies do not always lead to a decrease in violent crime. On the contrary they can correlate to an increase in crime. Although, some in the anti gun group will reason that because America has one of the highest gun crime rates in the world while Europe s gun crime is relatively low, American society should not allow citizens to own guns. This may be true of course; however stricter gun ownership laws and crime increase is not conclusive. As Mauser states in Would Banning Firearms ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There seems to be no way to stop the impending financial crisis. But out of nowhere comes the Federal Reserve, with 7.7 trillion dollars of zero interest loans. All looks well, until the housing market collapses. So what was the point of creating 7.7 trillion dollars in assets if an economic recession would still occur? Why would the Fed bail out big businesses at the expense of the taxpayer? The answer lies in the reckless, unconstitutional policies of the Federal Reserve. The Fed bails out big banks and companies, unconstitutionally prints money, and leads the dollar to its collapse. During the 2008 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With all that being said, the mortgages that were rated as excellent were actually bad for homebuyers. To the homebuyers surprise, the interest rates rose and they could no longer afford to pay their mortgages. This meant that the investors lost their money and subsequently stopped buying these mortgage backed securities. This sent housing prices falling by thirty percent and the stock market falling by fifty percent, and also led to nine million jobs being lost. Some of companies involved in the mortgages, such as AIG, almost went bankrupt as a result. AIG lost all their money because they insured these bad mortgages and had no money to pay for all the mortgages they insured. These companies did this because they knew the Fed would always have their backs. Because the Fed bailed these businesses out, they were essentially allowed to keep making money off of these bad banking practices. According to Mike Collins, an editor at Forbes Magazine, the actual bailout of these businesses turned out to cost $7.7 trillion, about the same as the US national debt at the time. Without the Fed, the free market would have let these businesses collapse, allowing new and better businesses to take their place, or even better, keep companies from using these bad practices in the first place. After spending all this money to bail out big businesses, it would be expected that the average person would have benefitted from this bailout. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Black Panther Party s Legacy The recollection of the Black Panther Party s legacy more than often remains to linger on in the collective memory as a group of armed leather clad radicals of the 1960 s. Although this memory is true, the Black Panther Party in actuality had more substance than just their attire. They were a political organization that reinforced human rights, they were leaders of self defense against a police state that relentlessly brutalized black bodies, and caretakers of poor black communities that were receiving little to no attention by the state. They were an organization in bloom looking to create solidarity and heal within the black community by whatever means necessary. The Black Panther Party is believed to be a revolutionary force that has helped shape movements of today. • 22. Aquaculture Is The Cultivation Of Sea Creatures ( Finfish... Background What is Aquaculture? Aquaculture is the wide term used to describe the cultivation of sea creatures. An example of aquaculture is fish farming. In Canada, the activities of aquaculture are practised in all provinces. However, if we look at the species each province produces (Figure 1 1), operations of coastal provinces have more variety on what they produce. It is easy to see why operations are more focused on the top producers in Canada: British Columbia, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland and Labrador (Figure 1 2). What type of economic activity does aquaculture provide? Essentially, aquaculture is considered as a primary industry in the economic sector. This means that aquaculture s main service is the production of goods, in this case, aquatic life. Aquaculture is unique as it does not harvest wild marine animals, compared to commercialized fishing. Instead, aquaculture focuses on farming the species of aquatic creatures (Finfish and shellfish). This economic activity provides a product of resource that is cultivated without damaging the population of aquatic life found naturally in the wild and provides a different alternative when it comes to the production of the renewable resources of fish in Canada. In Canadian aquaculture, there are a variety of methods involving the farming of aquatic life because of location. The oldest method is with the net pen system (Figure 1 3). The Supreme Court is a very important part to our U.S government. The court decides the legality of our laws, and how lives are effected by them: therefore we need to have active and healthier judges that have some experience and know what they are doing. There are many reasons why term limits should be put into action. In our Supreme Court most judges are aged or in their late prime, due to the fact that we don t have a limit on how long a person can run as a judge. Judges in their prime have a higher and faster thinking rate while their young for example, people are in much sharper shape mental in their 40s,50s,60s, than 70s,80s,90s (Christopher Ingraham Febuary,13,2016). The Case That Moved America Working Title: The case that moved America Any child denied entry to any school due to their ethnicity is automatically put at a disadvantage compared to other children. This case was originally five different cases in different parts of the United States. These cases were all compounded into one when appealed to the Supreme Court. Brown v. Board is the most historical revolutionary Civil Rights case due to it forever changing the manner in which different races in America interact with each other. Children segregated from other children because of their skin color not only causes them to be more insecure, but it also causes a large knowledge gap between the segregated parties. Children who are separated from others because of their skin color grow to develop their own insecurities and diffidence. After reviewing psychological studies showing black girls in segregated schools had low racial self esteem, the Court concluded that separating children on the basis of race creates dangerous inferiority complexes that may adversely affect black children s ability to learn (PBS). Races being divided by these social barriers create a disparity between them. It is unequal for children of different races to be separated. Equal education is required in order to give all children an equal chance at success and making differences. Public education in the 20th century, said the Court, had become an essential component of a citizen s public life, forming the basis of democratic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One such weakness is its inability to attack anything behind its main body. The walker would have to turn completely around to engage a target behind it thus exposing itself to the direction it was previously facing. One of the most commonly exploited weaknesses of the AT AT is it high center of gravity, making it top heavy. One example of the rebels taking advantage of this weakness is when the Empire assaulted Hoth. Rebel snow speeders attached tow lines toe the walker s legs and wrapped the line around it until the walker got snagged and toppled over. The walker also has a hard time attacking more than one target at a time. Another weakness is the flexible tunnel that runs between the cargo and troop areas of the craft and the head. One direct blast to this tunnel detonated the entire AT AT. The platting on the underbelly of the walker is slightly weaker and easier to damage. The AT AT also has no way to protect against troops beneath its main body, where the lightly armored hatch can be easily cut free and sabotaged. One other big weakness in the design of the AT AT is the fact that it is very slow compared to the smaller AT ST. Hochschild was born in New York in 1942 and graduated from Harvard in 1963 with a B.A. degree in history and literature (Interview with Adam Hochschild). He worked as a reporter for a daily newspaper for two years and then he went on to writing and editing magazines. In 1986 he wrote his first book, and then twelve years later he wrote his second: King Leopold s Ghost. Hochschild said he writes about subjects he s interested in. In the introduction to King Leopold s Ghost he states that he knew nothing about the history of the Congo until he noticed a footnote in a book (Hochschild 3). Hochschild said that when you come across something striking, you remember where you were when you read it. In this particular experience he was in an airliner crossing the United States. He read a quotation by Mark Twain about the caliber of what happened in the Congo and was startled (3), this sparked his interest in the Congo and inspired him to start researching to see if the mass murders he read about were true. The book, King Leopold s Ghost covers information from the 1840s (Hochschild 21) to now about the Congo past and present, but King Leopold s reign of terror was from 1885 1906 (History of the Belgian Congo). RIDDIR Legislation In an engineering workplace it is important for the employee to report accidents as this is part of the RIDDIR legislation and this needs to be followed by the engineering industry. By following the legislation you can prevent any accident or incidents occurring to any employee or employer within any workplace. Ill health and accidents are quite common at work because this happened in 2011/12, 1.1 million people who were working were suffering from illnesses, and some people believed that the illnesses were caused from or made worse from their current work or their past work. We record and report at work because it is a legal requirement under The Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013 (RIDDOR). RIDDOR sets a legal obligation on: the employers, the self employed people, and the people who are in control of the premises. These responsible people will need to report and record incidents, diseases, injuries and any dangerous occurrences that will involve employees, the self employed workers and all members of the public. • 36. How Do You Think the Asian Passenger Air Transport... The Asian passenger air transport marketplace will stable and growing rapidly. The latest Airbus Global Market Forecast (GMF), released in December 2010, shows that key drivers for the marketplace are the replacement of aircraft for newer more eco efficient models in mature markets, dynamic growth in new emerging markets, the further growth of low cost carriers particularly in Asia Pacific and Europe, further market liberalisation and capacity growth on existing routes. In 2010, views on whether low fare airlines would continue to flourish in Asia varied. Three factors regulation, population demographics, and socioeconomic trends drove this calculus. Although the target consumer base for AirAsia was enormous more than 500 million ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Surcharges and baggage fees covered some of this but the airline was conscious that if it loaded on the full charge, it might find no demand on some flights due to a high base price (e.g. minimum or zero fare plus taxes, fees and surcharges). To offset this eventuality, AirAsia did a lot to improve operations and efficiency and also saw the benefits of the fuel efficient Airbus 320 help to maintain its low fares brand position. To retain its cost advantage in the wake of the global recession, AirAsia entered into an alliance in January 2010 with Jetstar, the low fare subsidiary of Australia s flag carrier, Qantas. This was the first time two leading budget airlines had collaborated in this fashion. The alliance allowed the companies to explore joint aircraft purchasing, passenger and ground handling services cooperation and the transportation of each other s passengers in the event of a disruption. Assuming the focus of the alliance was on cost sharing for services and aircraft procurement, it might prove effective. AirAsia had played the game very well and had ambitious growth plans to keep ahead of the pack. Time would tell if Fernandes and his team could maintain the company s position as Asia s or perhaps the globe s most successful budget airline. But what were the business implications for AirAsia if oil prices remained above $100 a barrel for the foreseeable future? Little possibility. Between slim and none The pattern in other regions ... • 38. Engstrom Auto Mirror Plant Essay Issues/Problem In the Engstrom Auto Mirror Plant case, the main problem is the lack of employee motivation. There are a few issues that contributed to this main problem. First issue would be an unnecessary extrinsic motivator of bonuses to the Scanlon Plan. Originally, workers had intrinsic motivation from communication meetings, which provides feedback for the company. However with the additional extrinsic motivator, employees find the tasks over sufficiently justified under the self perception effect so intrinsic value would be lowered. When bonuses stopped, employees lost motivation to work. Another issue would be about the equity theory. In the plan, workers earn the same amount from the bonuses regardless of the effort implemented. Therefore some Engstrom workers lost motivation since supervisors work less but are still paid equally. This resulted in many workers complaining due to an inequality of ratios. The last issue in the Scanlon Plan occurred when the company decided to lay people off. Employees ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This would secure the basic level on Maslow s hierarchy. Management could abolish the Scanlon Plan and advocate an individually based incentive plan. Workers would earn bonuses according to their personal performances. This would be a great extrinsic motivator for employees but this would lower the intrinsic value. Additionally, the free rider problem and equity theory could be solved. • 39. The Effects Of Drinking Water On Water Quality Drinking water is a simple idea but such a hard process to master. The water in our lakes and rivers is not safe to drink due to the toxins from vehicles, industrial plants, and natural sources. It is sad how much we take drinking water for granted. In many countries around the world, they do not have easy access to drinking water like we do here in America. In today s society, when we receive water from a lake or river, it must be treated and cleaned before people can drink it. The drinking water quality has three main properties that give its ability to clean and be able to drink that will not get people sick. These three properties include the chemical makeup, physical properties, and the biological properties of the water quality. The first step of improving the water quality is by using chemicals to clean and get rid of the toxins that might be in the water. Water is a made up of many different chemicals. According to (Scatena 2000), as water across the landscape, it interacts with its environment through a variety of chemical processes, during these processes it picks up transported dissolved gases, cations and anions, amorphous organics, trace metals, and particulates. Dissolved Gases are the most abundant on the earth in water. Aquatic life depends on the dissolved oxygen in the water to live but it also effects the color, taste, odor and chemistry. Natural organic compounds consist of plant and animal tissue and the products of decomposition. Also, there are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Authors: Sudhir Kannan, Jason Wilson, Grahame Taylor University Hospitals Of Leicester. Department of Musculoskeletal Surgery (Leicester General Hospital). Introduction: Persistent wound discharge following joint replacement is a known complication. Any discharge from the wound for 4 days is defined as persistent leakage. Our literature showed that the incidence of persistent discharge from the wound ranges up to 14.3%(Gaine et al), wound complication which require surgical treatment is 0.33%.(Galat et al). Galat et al (2009) conducted a retrospective analysis of 17,784 primary total knees replacements and report that the incidence of wound complications requiring surgical treatment was 0.33%. Gaine et al reported that the incidence of superficial infection and early deep infections following joint replacement were 14.3% and 1.1% respectively. We could identify several classification systems for leaky wounds. However, these classification systems have been devised by individual authors, which have not been repeated between papers. To be specific there is no universally accepted classification system. The leaky wounds often lead to treatment dilemma, prolonged hospital stay and
