Kyrgyzstan declared independence on the last day of August 1991. Kyrgyzstan joined 10 other
Soviet states by Commonwealth on 21 December of the same year. This co independence lasted
only four days. On 25 December 1991, Kyrgyzstan achieved sole independence. The President did
this after the ending of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republic (Encyclopedia of World Cultures).
The President of the United States at the time, George H. Bush addressed the nation. The President
announced his decision to recognize Kyrgyzstan as an Independent Democratic Peoples Republic.
He did this in an address to the nation about the ending of the Soviet Union (U.S. Recognition of
Kyrgyzstan, 1991). In April 1992, the President officially opened relationships with Kyrgyzstan. He
produced the Presidential Determination Memorandum on Trade with Armenia, Belarus,
Kyrgyzstan, and Russia (Presidential Determination No. 92 20).
Kyrgyzstan needed to reach into the past in order to create distance from the Soviet Union.
After Kyrgyzstan claimed independence it reinvented it s self in the form of the country s new

We all met in this huge hall were our selection was going to work. The leader of selection Mac
