Eudora Welty s Delta Wedding
The Roaring Twenties and the Jazz Age describe an era of prosperity and entertainment. With fancy
parties, cars, houses, and a multitude of wealth, people go about their day with frivolity. However, not
all were willing to accept the social changes that goes with the 1920s. One such novel that addresses
the liberal era and some reluctance is Eudora Welty s novel Delta Wedding. Beginning with Laura
McRaven travelling to visit her extended family, the Fairchilds, at their plantation in the Mississippi
Delta, she experiences the turmoil surrounding her departed mother s family: the uproar of the
oncoming wedding, the tension between her aunts, and the difficulties one must face in becoming a
Fairchild. Despite Laura playing the main role of the novel, Welty uses her minor character Robbie
Reid to explore the compact Southern family and the polarity between precedent archetypes and the
liberal woman of the 1920s. Welty uses the temporary separation of Robbie, Laura s aunt by marriage,
and her husband, George, to highlight how swiftly the Fairchilds will band together and turn against
those who are deemed outsiders. Towards the middle of the novel, Welty introduces Aunt Tempe who,
upon hearing the news of Robbie s departure, exclaims, I d like to see her! She ll get no welcome from
me, flighty thing . . . how can people hurt George (139). Even Ellen, who like Robbie married into the
Fairchild household, strides to George s defense; I don t know. . . . Remember

Oil Sands Research Paper
Canada has the third largest oil sand deposit in the world, following Saudi Arabia and Venezuela. Oil
sands are not only a crucial part of today s energy production, but they also greatly impact the politics
and economy of a country. However, the oil sands take a large toll on the environment. While this
massive carbon footprint can be decreased and possibly eradicated with laws and regulations, the
current environmental impact is troubling. Many argue that further expansion of the oil sands will
have an additional impact on the environment, therefore creating a larger carbon footprint and
increasing the effects of global warming. Another aspect that is often brought up in the debate of the
oil sands is their economic benefit and the impact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
researchers say, describes why Canada should stop the expansion of the oil sands. The CBC s article is
based upon information formed by a panel of biologists, political scientists, physicists, economists and
geographers. The group came to the conclusion that the oil sands expansion needs to end, though they
did not call for completely halting Canada s oil sands operations. The following is a scientific
explanation as to why expansion needs to end according to the CBC, No new oil sands or related
infrastructure projects should proceed unless consistent with an implemented plan to rapidly reduce
carbon pollution, safeguard biodiversity, protect human health, and respect treaty rights . The article
goes even further by bringing up the fact that Canada s previous prime minister, Stephen Harper,
agreed that by 2100, Canada will stop the use of all fossil fuels, and therefore expansion of the oil
sands will be a waste of money seeing as they will no longer be prevalent in eighty years time.
Furthermore, this article does not bring up or dismiss arguments supporting the expansion of oil sands,
rather as the article progresses, it becomes less distinctive as to what the argument actually is.
Therefore, though the sources and opinions of this article are presented without bias, they are not as
consistent and less powerful than the arguments presented by the Globe and

Space Shuttle Challenger Essay
Space Shuttle Challenger
1. Why did NASA decide to launch Challenger?
The shuttle program was under political attack. Congress was dissatisfied with the program, and the
president poorly defended it, this led to sever budget cuts. In order to keep the program alive NASA
had to prove that it could pay for itself. To attract customers and retain Congressional support, NASA
had to prove that it could launch a large number of flights on time. This stressed the already threatened
Launch schedule. No one at NASA wanted to be responsible for delays. So when the safety comsernes

also blame Thiokol management for folding under presser and overruling its concerned engineers.
Also, NASA management for pressuring its subcontractors and obsessing so much with the need to fly
that they ignored safety.
5. How might the Morton Thiokol engineers have convinced NASA and their own management to
postpone the launch?
It appears to me that the Morton Thiokol engineers had valid evidence to support their clame. All the
Thiokol engineers agreed that the cold weather would decrease the elasticity, and damage the synthetic
rubber O rings, Flight 51 C proved this. Weather data also showed that the O rings were not at proper
operation levels on launch day. Although they didn t have much data at lower tempetures, what they
said made sense. It appears to me that the only way to convince management that the O rings were not
going to hold was to test them at lower tempetures, but that would have taken time.

Graduate University Of California At Los Angles Essay
I am quite delighted that as a student from a very small town with limited educational facilities in Iran,
I have reached to the point to consider myself eligible to apply for University of California at Los
Angles. After finishing my early education, my strength in mathematics guided me to continue this
field in high school and from then on I was appealed to the application of mathematic in real world
problems. As for university, however, I preferred to pursue this interest in Industrial Engineering
major rather than Applied Mathematic mainly because the former had a broader perspective of future
careers. During my bachelor degree, I realized that despite the extensive undergraduate study, I still
need to complete the graduate study to discover my ultimate career goals. In addition, upon
graduation, I took the opportunity and worked for one year as an industrial engineer to ascertain
whether I am suitable for academic environment or job market. Ultimately, after finishing the master
degree in Tsinghua University, I came to the conclusion that my passion for research makes me a
better fit in academic area. Hence, I decided to follow my graduate study in Ph.D. level and
accordingly apply for a faculty position. As a result of this definite decision, I even turn down the job
offer of Mercedes Benz Company for battery localization project in Beijing. As mention above, my
initial interest was in the application of mathematic. This interest began to incline toward economic

The Founding And Development Of The Sociology Of Youth
Zubok and Chuprov s research article The Founding and Development of the Sociology of Youth in
This Country (2009), focuses on the sociology of youth and the way it has developed and progressed
over the years. Beginning in the 1960s, the study of youth developed as a special area of research
(Zubok and Chuprov 2009:23), essentially focusing on the domestic life of young families (2009:23)
as expressed by E. Kabo, the ideas of peasant kids (2009:23) as explained by N. Rybnikov, and the
position of adolescent blue collar workers employed in production (2009:23) as presented by I.
Ianzhaul A. Bernshtein Kogan. Social scientist involved in the development of the study of youth
proposed the idea of establishing theoretical conceptions of social development of young people
(2009:26) so society would better understand youth and their actions. This development would
involve communicative rationality, which allowed social scientist to address the underlying issues
faced by youth, who at the time were unable to speak up about occurrences and decisions in society
that affected them. The platform through which communicative rationality presents itself occurred in
the first nationwide study titled A Social Portrait of Young People (Zubok and Chuprov 2009:23),
dedicated to addressing a diverse number of problems involving youth. The structure would: provide a
valid idea of the social makeup of young people and its constituent categories (Zubok and Chuprov

Fake News And Its Effects On The Election Of The United...
News is everywhere. It s on TV, in newspapers, on phones, and on computers. Some may say that it s
inescapable. Lately, a whole new type of news has begun circulating without much of a second glance.
This form of news, referred to as fake news , contains fraudulent or misleading information that
masquerades itself as real news. While some believe that fake news is easy to discern from real news,
that is not the case. Because of this, the circulation of fake news has real and significant political
consequences. The most obvious and relevant of these consequences is the election of the forty fifth
president of the United States.
The poll lends weight to the suggestion that the US election result was influenced by a widespread

Harris admits to fabricating an individual who found fraudulent Clinton ballots. He found an image of
a man standing in front of many boxes with the label ballot box written on them. Despite not knowing
who the man in the image was, he claimed that he was Randall Prince, the individual that he
fabricated (Shane). He bought an expired internet domain for five dollars, published it on that website,
and before it knew it the article was being shared all across the web. It went so far that the Franklin
County, Ohio, board of elections announced that it was investigating the claims, and later made a
public statement denying the story (Shane). Harris simply took a claim that Trump had publicly shared
and created an entirely fabricated piece of fiction that appeared to back up Trump s claim. It was
simple, and it spread like wildfire, possibly turning more individuals into Trump supporters.
Unfortunately, news, and all too often fake news, spreads incredibly fast as this example illustrates.
One author even compared it to a disease. The propagation of such information through social
networks bears many similarities of infectious diseases (Kucharski). The only way fake news can
spread is through the sharing of it through either social media or word of mouth. This turns out to be
the case when it comes to the election of Donald Trump. In the weeks before the election, search giant

Walking into the library at most high schools brings to the eye an array of fashion magazines in the
front shelves. Most schools acknowledges that fashion has a large audience, but the skinnier and
skinnier models have created a large group of people with eating disorders and bad self images. In her
article What s Wrong with Skinny? that discusses eating disorders linked to the fashion industry, Lisa
Hilton states that women are so pathologically stupid that they are unable to distinguish the fantasy of
the runway from the realities of their own bodies . Fashion is something that many girls let influence

be thin. Models in the fashion industry have been getting thinner and thinner, with runway models
being size 0 to size 4 and plus size models being between sizes 6 and 14, and they qualify for anorexia
on the charts of eating disorders according to Rader Programs, an organization that helps treat eating
disorders. Most models use extreme dieting methods such as eating tissues and lettuce to keep
themselves thin. This is encouraged in the industry due to the need to stay thin. Because these dieting
techniques work for the models, some teenage girls get the idea that they can do that as well.
Anderson and Domenico found that women s magazines had 10.5 times more dieting information than
men s magazines, which mainly focus on sex and women s fashion mistakes. Eating disorders have

Vita Futura We proudly welcome you to our town, Vita Futura. Vita Futura, which means Future Life

What is Cataract? Cataract is known as a build up of protein clouding the eye lens which distorts or
blocks the light entering the eye. When new lens cells form on the outside of the lens, all older cells

Henry Selick Vs. The Nightmare Before Christmas
The Nightmare Before Christmas directed by Henry Selick and written by Tim Burton is a movie I
consider to be one of the best. In this film Jack, who is a large skeleton and also the king of
Halloween, discovers the holiday of Christmas and decides that he will become Santa Claws to give
the big guy a break and prove that he could do it better. Another reason Jack did this is because he is
tired of Halloween and wants to make a major change in his life since being the Pumpkin King is no
longer fulfilling for him. The Nightmare Before Christmas, is considered to fall under the film genre
of children s movies. This genre in particular is an excessively broad genre as children s movies have
numerous topics and styles. Another children s movie ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the most important things of a good film is to have a satisfying ending for the viewer. Without
giving any spoilers away, The Nightmare Before Christmas has an ending that will leave you feeling
good instead of leaving with a bad taste in your mouth. Also it s important for a good film to be
engaging throughout its entirety. The Nightmare Before Christmas is a story that can keep any viewer
sucked into its fantasy world because the story never has a dull moment. Another important part of
making a good movie is that the story line is original and not overdone. The Nightmare Before
Christmas is a hundred percent original and is the only movie that has done this story line to date
which makes it not only unique but worth watching. Good acting is another thing that could make or
break a movie when it comes to being good. While The Nightmare Before Christmas doesn t have
actors actually on the screen it has voice actors who made sure that their voices conveyed the
emotions of the scenes throughout the movie. Relatable characters are a key point of any good movie
because the viewers often want to be able to put themselves into the movie. Jack Skellington is a guy
who seems to be stuck in a rut and I think that most people have been at that place before and can

An Argumentative Essay On Bethany Hamilton s Life
Choosing an individual that has overcome adversity was difficult because there were many options.
When reviewing my options, I realized Bethany Hamilton was my best choice. She is known as the
Soul Surfer . She is not an elite thematicization, or famous artist, or even a freedom fighter but she is
an inspiration. Bethany was just a teenager who had a lifelong dream of becoming a pro surfer. One
day she went surfing with her friends and left as a victim of a violent shark attack that took her left
arm. It took a while but this attack did not break her spirit or faith.
Bethany Hamilton was born on a small island in Hawaii. She was known to be born with salt in her
veins. She began competitive surfing at age 8, and by age 9 she had earned her first sponsorship. A
member of the Hanalei Surf Co. team, the home schooled Hamilton proved capable of beating more
experienced surfers in competition. In May 2003, she won both her age group and the open division of

Essay On Greenhouse Gases
Emissions of greenhouse gases, especially carbon dioxide, are among the major threats to
sustainability. The damages they cause to the environment, represent serious external costs to society
i.e. a negative externality. The impact of these emissions does not directly fall on those who conduct
the production activities responsible for the emissions but on the entire society, especially the future
generations. Diagrammatically, this situation can be represented by a marginal social cost (MSC)
higher than the marginal private cost (MPC), figure 1. Meaning that the costs of production of the

for the health etc..Thus if the market forces ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As reported by the article carbon taxes are one of the simplest, market friendly way of driving with
climate change . They have in fact numerous advantages. First of all, they bring a consistent
government revenue which can be spent to subsidies renewable sources of energy. Secondly, these
taxes make the energy prices more predictable, which will increase the level of business confidence
because firms can now planning their future investments with more security. Finally, they are not
subjected to corruption, since they cannot be manipulated like the cap and trade system. On the other
hand they may be too low, resulting in less incentive for the producers to use other form of energy,
since is more convenient for them just to pay the tax. Moreover, this could mean a rise in
unemployment since the output will decrease and therefore firms will reduce the workforce.
Furthermore, the tax will not make a compelling contribution because Bangladesh is a small producer
of carbon dioxide, meaning that it will not make a significant contribution to contrast the climate
change, which is a global phenomenon. Finally, as stated in the article there is the danger that the
burden of the tax will be passed to the consumers, putting a greater financial pressure on the lower
income households.

For many decades, psychological testing and theories has played a significant role in psychology and
has always raised a concern in regards to ethics. Ethics is simply about knowing the difference
between right and wrong. Therefore, in psychology, researchers have a moral responsibility to protect
their participants from harm. In this week assignment, I will examine the ethical controversy that has
caused many questions and concerns about the episode of John Watson and The Little Albert
Experiment.
The Little Albert experiment was a study conducted by psychologists John B. Watson and his
assistants, Rosalie Rayner during in the 1920s. The study was conducted at John ... Show more

The Portrait Of Edward Hopper
Edward Hopper was a quiet person but his art speaks louder that his words. His paintings are famous
because they are mysterious and his scenes don t seem to be complete. His paintings leave the viewer
with questions which makes his painting even more interesting. Hopper started sketching and drawing
at a very young age. Hopper has struggled throughout his career but in the end, he s made it to where
he is now. When Hopper was young he loved anything to do with art. He was extremely excited when
he got a blackboard one Christmas. He loved how he could draw anything, erase it, and draw a brand
new picture. When he became older he had a pencil and paper everywhere he went. He loved to

he was in Paris. When he wasn t traveling over to Europe he lived in an apartment in Greenwich
which he moved into in 1913. Hopper lived here for the rest of his life. He hated having to work and
paint for other businesses but that s what he had to do to keep his apartment. Luckily for him, he was
43 years old when he had enough money to quit the job and focus on his paintings more. Most artists
don t immediately get recognized and in Hopper s case, the first painting he ever sold was in 1911.
The painting was call Sailing and it sold for $250 or $4300 in today s money. It was also exhibited at
the famous Armory Show. The Armory show introduced American Art World to a new kind of
experimental art of Europe. Getting an invitation to this exhibit was a great honor. So this was a pretty
big deal for him. Sadly, after Sailing he didn t sell another painting for years. He did, however,
continue to work as an illustrator even though he didn t like it. Later, he traveled to Monhegan, Maine
and met Josephine Verstille Nivison. She was a former student of his who studied under Henri as well.
The two had been friends for quite a few years and then they got New York on July 9, 1924. They
were in fact opposites of each other Josephine or Jo was more outgoing and spoke her thoughts, while
Hopper was more soft spoken, quiet, and polite. Sometimes talking with Eddie is

The Nature of Humans in Lord of the Flies by William Golding
The nature of human: are humans born good or evil? These two opposing views on human nature are
two topics that Rousseau and Golding have both touched upon. While Golding believes that humans
are born inherently evil, Rousseau believes the opposite: that humans are inherently good. Golding
wrote the novel Lord of the Flies as a response of the novel, The Coral Island by R.M. Ballantyne
because he believed that it was far fetched. In this novel Ballantyne s main characters are able to enjoy
their time on the deserted island. My opinion on this matter leans to Rousseau s side. I believe that
people are born naturally good. Jean Jacques Rousseau was born in Geneva in 1712 and died in 1778
in France. While Golding lived through the two World Wars, Rousseau never lived through such
conflict. A topic of Rousseau s that always came up is about how humans can keep their freedom
despite their dependence on one another. He believed that there were two things that had something to
do with this topic and that was a human s material and psychological need and that the latter was more
important. Rousseau believed that humans get their sense of self due to opinion of others. Rousseau
believes that humans are inherently born good and that and that it is society s corruption that causes
humans to be evil. William Golding was born in 1911 in Cornwall, England and died in 1993. William
Golding was born only three years before the start of World War I. Golding lived through both World

How Did Erasmus Change During The Renaissance
Renaissance was the period of great changes and was characterized by a revision of many concepts.
The churches during the renaissance was being questioned by many scholars and one of the greatest
scholar of this period Desiderius Erasmus, a Christian humanist and the second scholar was a monk
from Germany named Martin Luther. The scholar Desiderius Erasmus was a dedicated Christian and
advocated reforms within the church and spread the idea of pacifism. He questioned the church in
many ideas and stated that people should live their own life and not always thinking about being
saved. For example He believed that baptism should be by full immersion and should come only after
one had accepted Christ as his personal Savior. He continued to assault erroneous Catholic Church

The Pros And Cons Of The Fourteenth Amendment
The Fourteenth Amendment has, overall, been a great incorporation into the Constitution through its
equal protection clause, due process clause, and other specific feature such as the ability to be show
the presence of the separate but equal mindset invested amongst individuals in the Court case of
Plessy v. Ferguson, the implementation of said mindset in the decision of the Brown v. The Board of
Education Supreme Court case, the usage of the due process clause in the 2000 presidential election
between Republican George W. Bush and Democrat Al Gore, and both equal protection clause and de
process clause in the more recent case of obergefell v. hodges. First off, Plessy v Ferguson is a prime
example for the use of the fourteenth amendment s equal protection clause protecting Homer Plessy,
enforcing a separate but equal mindset among the people touched by this court case, and demonstrated
the strength of the equal protection clause. Homer Plessy In the 1892 incident, Plessy refused to sit in
Jim Crow car (expression meaning Negro, racial segregation directed toward African Americans),
breaking Louisiana law. At first the Supreme Court didn t believe his constitutional rights were
violated. Their reason behind this is that it was a state law that implies merely a legal distinction
between whites and people of color. To them, it did not violate the 13th or 14th amendment. This state
law was Louisiana s, the law was about providing separate but equal accommodations for the

Essay On Coywolf
LIKE some people who might rather not admit it, wolves faced with a scarcity of potential sexual
partners are not beneath lowering their standards. It was desperation of this sort, biologists reckon,
that led dwindling wolf populations in southern Ontario to begin, a century or two ago, breeding
widely with dogs and coyotes. The clearance of forests for farming, together with the deliberate
persecution which wolves often suffer at the hand of man, had made life tough for the species. That
same forest clearance, though, both permitted coyotes to spread from their prairie homeland into areas
hitherto exclusively lupine, and brought the dogs that accompanied the farmers into the mix.
Interbreeding between animal species usually leads to offspring less vigorous than either parent if they

Javier Monzón, who worked until recently at Stony Brook University in New York state (he is now at
Pepperdine University, in California) studied the genetic make up of 437 of the animals, in ten north

coywolf s genetic material is dog and a quarter is wolf.
The DNA from both wolves and dogs (the latter mostly large breeds, like Doberman Pinschers and
German Shepherds), brings big advantages, says Dr Kays. At 25kg or more, many coywolves have
twice the heft of purebred coyotes. With larger jaws, more muscle and faster legs, individual
coywolves can take down small deer. A pack of them can even kill a moose.
Coyotes dislike hunting in forests. Wolves prefer it. Interbreeding has produced an animal skilled at
catching prey in both open terrain and densely wooded areas, says Dr Kays. And even their cries blend
those of their ancestors. The first part of a howl resembles a wolf s (with a deep pitch), but this then
turns into a higher pitched, coyote like

Importance Of Disabilities In The Film Children Of A...
Disabilities are common throughout the world whether it affects one s ability to walk or talk. Although
one may be born disabled, it ll take time for them to adjust to their surroundings. During their lifetime,
many emotions will be shown through words or actions. Seeing humans maneuver around and
communicate, those with disabilities learn; however, they choose to live how they wish. One may
reach out for assistance, while others will ignore the fact that they need help. However, significant
others or friends may try to change one s ways in helping and assisting them to adjust to the everyday
lifestyle. Furthermore, the film Children of a Lesser God demonstrates how the deaf learn to
communicate with the hearing. James Leed, who is a teacher of deaf students, comes across a deaf co
worker, Sarah who becomes his significant other throughout the movie. Although Sarah is incapable
of speaking, James communicates with her through signing; however, a performance by James s deaf
students occurs that leaves Sarah storming away in frustration. James teaches his deaf students at his
school how to speak and read lips. Although, many can follow his techniques, some cannot. Sarah
who is his deaf co worker, cleans up classrooms and other areas. James gains pride and happiness
when his students learn and perform well. However, Sarah seems to disagree. During the film, there is
a scene where James s deaf students perform on parent and family day. They accomplish a task that

Physics of Skydiving Essay
The Physics of Skydiving
What Is Skydiving?
Skydiving is an adrenaline based sport with a fairly simple concept jump from a high place (usually
out of a plane) from several thousand feet above sea level and hope and pray for a safe landing. This
safe landing is often times achieved through the use of a device called a parachute, which enables the
skydiver to reduce his speed to such a point that colliding with the earth will not be fatal.
This paper will explain a few of the key concepts behind the physics of skydiving. First we will
explore why a skydiver accelerates after he leaps out of the plane before his jump, second we will try
and explain the drag forces effecting the skydiver, and lastly we will attempt to explain how ... Show

Lets examine a free body diagram of this situation.
One may now clearly see why Joe does not accelerate downward while he remains is in the plane. The
normal force of the plane is acting against the normal force of the gravity acting on Joe s 100 kilogram
mass (this is getting close to the maximum weight allowed for skydiving). Since the sum of the forces
in the y, or upward direction, is equal to zero, there is effectively no force acting on Joe. Thus, the
acceleration of Joe must be zero.
Now that Joe understands why he is remaining at a constant altitude, he s ready to take his first jump.
Joe is given the signal to jump from the jump master, and he steps right off the edge of the plane. Joe
is now instantly accelerating in the downward direction. Joe s acceleration will soon cause him to
travel at a rapid rate. But exactly how fast will he be traveling at a certain time? Without this
knowledge, Joe could easily splatter against the surface of the earth. In order to calculate Joe s
velocity at any time, T, we use the following equation:
X = Vi * T + .5 * g * t^2
Where X is the change in distance, Vi is the initial velocity, t is time, and g is the acceleration due to
gravity. Since we know Joe s initial velocity was 0, and the acceleration of gravity is always 9.8
m/s^2, we can calculate how far Joe has traveled at any point in time. Lets examine the new free body
diagram for this situation.
As you can see, the normal force is now

Why Do Vesicles Enter A Cell
The secretory vesicles store molecules and proteins from the endoplasmic reticulum and the Golgi
apparatus until the cell is ready to release them.
Some vesicles enter the cell membrane whereas some don t. Until the cell signal is released the
vesicles enter the cell membrane. The vesicle structure is round and hollow.
Rough and smooth E.R
Plant cells and animal cells contain an organelle called the Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum. The role
of the smooth endoplasmic reticulum is to make cellular products like hormones and lipids. This is
then shared to the cell. Calcium ions are also released from the smooth ER as well as processing
toxins. The difference between a smooth ER and a rough ER is that the rough endoplasmic reticulum
has ribosomes for protein synthesis on its surface.

The cell is protected from its surrounding by the cell membrane. Another function of the cell
membrane is that it controls the movement of substances in and out of the cells and organelles. This
makes it selectively permeable to ions and organic molecules. The role of the cell membrane is to keep
up a selectively permeable barrier. It also helps the organelle to be structural by keeping all its content
together. It also allows communication between another cell. Another role the cell membrane has is
that it recognises other external substances and allows mobility in some organisms. Chemical
reactions can take place on the cell membrane site. The structure of a cell membrane is that it has a
fluid mosaic. This suggests it is made up of many different types pf molecules and is also flexible. The
cell membranes basic structure is formed by phospholipids called the lipid bilayer. Cholesterol
molecules are scattered in the lipid bilayer, which helps keep the membrane fluid

Analysis Of The Book The Sign Of The Beaver By...
Located in the Eastern Woodlands of Maine are the Penobscot Native Americans. Formally known as
the Penobscot tribe of Maine, they are now known as The Penobscot Nation. One can glean
knowledge of this tribe through the historical fiction novel The Sign of the Beaver, by Elizabeth
George Speare, and the article Penobscot, from Wikipedia.org. The novel is the story of a 12 year old
boy s experience and interaction with the tribe after he finds himself left alone in the wilderness of
Maine. The article is a non fiction work describing the history, culture, and daily life of the tribe.
Though both pieces revolve around the indigenous people, they are written from different
perspectives. They also contrast in author s purpose. The article neutrally informs the reader about the
tribe, whereas the novel presents its information subjectively through the main character s feelings and
emotions.
Though writing sources differ in their genre, they can still share similarities. The book by Elizabeth
George Speare and the article from Wikipedia demonstrates a closeness between each other. In the
novel The Sign of the Beaver, Matt, the main character, is introduced to the Penobscot tribe after he

The Importance of the Zollverein in the Movement for...
Formation the German Confederation created by the Congress of Vienna had 39 states, each having its
dues and tolls on goods passim through its territory. This made goods expensive and hindered trade.
For instance, Prussia had 67 different tariff areas within its border after 1815. As such, Germany was
economically and commercially the most backward country in western Europe in the early years of the
19th century.
Purssia took the lead to promote free trade movement in the German Confederation. By the 1818
Tariff Reform Act, Prussia removed all customs barriers on trade within her boundaries, making the
country for the first time an economic and commercial unit. At the same time, she imposed a uniform
tariff on goods from other states ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, the clash of interests was to be forgotten in the face of the considerable advantages offered
by the formation of the Zollverein. A feeling of solidarity and the idea of a single fatherland assumed a
concrete form for the Germans. In this way, the quiet, but incessant, pressure of economic forces
broke down the political barriers which divided Germany.
In the words of a contemporary, Dr. Bowring who commented in 1840 as follows: The Zollverein had
brought the sentiment of German nationality out of the regions of hope and fancy into those of
positive and material interests. The general feeling is that it is the first step towards what is called the
Germanization of the people. It has broken down some of the strongest holds of alienation and
hostility. By a community of interests on commercial and trading questions it has prepared the way for
a political nationality.
Strengthened Prussian leadership with the help of the Zollverein, Prussia became economically
supreme in the German Confederation.
The 1818 Tariff Act and subsequent trade agreements stimulated Prussian trade and economic
development. As the Zollverein gradually extended the area of free trade within its boundaries,
Prussian economy prospered. In 1848 the Bank of Prussia was founded to assist economic growth. It
was managed by government officials, the shareholders in the Bank were allowed no say in its control.

Achieving Business Information Security in Cyberspace
How to achieve business information security in cyberspace
Introduction
The interdependent network of digital and communication infrastructure is referred to as the
cyberspace. It includes telecommunication networks, the internet, and computer systems. Cyberspace
underpins every facet of our modern society. It provides support for civil infrastructure, U.S. economy,
national security and public safety. The term cyberspace can also be used to mean the interactions of
people and the virtual information environment. Cyberspace enables the growth of effective and more
efficient business processes.
All businesses need to ensure that their customers have confidence that their sensitive information, the
infrastructure they use and that their transactions are secure. There are many ways through which all
these can be compromised some of them are worms, viruses, phishing, unauthorized access, Trojan

The Debate Over Open Carry Of Handguns
In recent years, open carry of handguns has become the controversial issue in America since the
Supreme Court s decisions in District of Columbia v. Heller and in McDonald v. City of Chicago
advocated protecting the Second Amendment (MELTZER). More and more states have allowed
certain forms of open carry law for handguns, but Texas is one of few states that prohibit outright any
open carry of guns (GRIEDER). The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution states a
well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep
and bear arms, shall not be infringed. The people who support the open carry law point out that bans
on gun are against the Second Amendment, which established the right for every citizen to keep and
bear arms. The National Rifle Association (NRA), the powerful lobby against gun control, believes
that human will still use their gun responsibly if there is no law (National Rifle...); however, the
people who do not support open carry argue that gun control can decrease the risk of crime and also
stop the potential to serial shooters to occur. Since gun control has become a controversial issue in
American politics, people might wonder the Second Amendment is about individual or collective
right? However, in the book by the author Saul Cornell, A Well Regulated Militia: The Founding
Fathers and the Origins of Gun Control in America, explained the historical evolution of guns right
and the idea of individual

Cheddar Cheetos
All Natural White Cheddar Cheetos, which are labeled as a non GMO food, was tested for the
presence of genetically modified organisms. DNA was extracted, amplified by PCR and was subjected
to electrophoresis to prove the absence of a genetically modified organism in the non GMO Cheetos.
Using DNA molecules from samples of interest is the favored method in GMO detection because
DNA is easily recognizable and very stable (Gaudio, 2009). The gel electrophoresis picture shows the
different sizes of the DNA fragments from the Cheetos. As pictured in figure one, there was a band for
the sample containing the plant primers in lane eight for the photosystem II gene which served as a
target area to ensure that the DNA extraction occurred (Smith, 2015). In lane nine was the test food
with GMO primers, which did not show a band. This means that the Cheetos lacked a GMO gene and
there was no presence of the CaMV promoter and the Nos promoter in the sample food. This
concludes that the Cheetos do not contain a GMO, like the packaging indicates. Lanes ten and eleven
shows fragments because they were positive controls and were expected to show up with a molecular
weight of 500 bp and 200 bp, respectively. The target DNA to detect the GMO was at the CaMV and
Nos promoter, which are both present in the GMO positive controls. The negative controls can also be
seen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A possibility of not getting a fragment under the test food with plant primers slot could be due to the
fact of not extracting enough DNA from the sample food. Another reason for any missing fragments
could be that the DNA ran off the gel, or that cross contamination occurred with improper labeling of
PCR tubes. These errors could be avoided by easily using the right sanitation methods, following the
protocol and ensuring the slurry mix contained a good ratio of sample food to

Machiavelli and the Use of Antiquity in The Prince and The...
Machiavelli and the Use of Antiquity in The Prince and The Discourses
The Renaissance was a time of classical revival and a turning point from the Middle Ages to the Early
Modern period in the course of history. Ancient texts and artifacts became sources of inspiration for
intellectuals and artists alike, and the desire to emulate or even surpass the achievements of the past
prompted them to study antiquities closely and saw them as models and guidance. People were
consciously distinguishing themselves from the medieval thoughts and using history to make
something new for their own era. In the field of political philosophy there s no exception. Niccolo
Machiavelli is perhaps the most representative and groundbreaking figure of this trend in political
philosophy. With his erudition in ancient literature, histories and political thoughts, Machiavelli draws
various sources from antiquity to critic and response to the political environment of histime. While
one may find seemingly discrepancies in The Prince and The Discourse on the First Ten Books of Tius
Livy, the use of histories as guide to demonstrate or propose ideal rules is apparent in both works. We
should note that synthesizing ancient philosophy or thoughts with contemporary thoughts is nothing
new. Thomas Aquinas, for example, reconciled Aristotelianism and Christianity in his work Summa
Theologica, using ancient antiquity to back up his Christian beliefs. What is so noteworthy in
Machiavelli is his emphasis and

Moldavite Pendant Research Paper
The Log Bench What I need, I told myself, is to take the dogs for a walk. Maybe then I ll remember.
Two weeks I d spent looking for my grandmother s Moldavite pendant. I d been going crazy retracing
my steps notwithstanding the sentimental significance it held for me. Lying on her death bed, my
grandmother had given it to me for protection when I was fourteen. She cautioned me of the strong
energies it held and that this pendant would protect me from negative entities. Her great aunt had
given it to her with warnings of the intense frequency and high vibration that resonated from this
stone. Grandmother claimed it had brought true love into her life shortly after it was bequeathed to
her. My grandfather had served in both wars ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Remembering the intense reaction I d felt from the first time my grandmother had placed the pendant
into my palm and thereupon I knew that he was genuinely speaking. Continuing he added, If you look
to the south of the nest you will see your home. Ever since you were entrusted with the pendant I have
been watching as it s been my duty from the beginning of time to safeguard the Moldavite pendant
and its keeper. There have been many keepers of the pendant hence their reward has been protection.
Placing this pendant into the wrong hands would have an adverse impact on the earth and mankind as
it can be used destructively. It s natural green crystals have powerful transforming abilities that should
only to be used for the advantage of this planet. Are you following me? Yes, I have felt its power, I
replied as I cast my gaze downwards, but I lost it a couple weeks ago. I ve searched everywhere to no
avail. My grandmother entrusted me with it and now it s gone. I ve no idea where to search next. Will
you help me find it? Sparkles appeared in the crows eyes as he replied, It s here under my wing, and
pulled a silvery chain from under his wing. Beautiful arcs of rays projected all around us from this
delicate, oval, forest green pendant as the sunlight touched

Absolutism In The French Revolution
Introduction
Europe has always been a great creator and revolutionary continent regarding history, plenty of
revolutions and ideas developments took place there, passing through changes on territories demands,
and many kinds of governments. In the 18th century, most of the countries were still under an
absolutist government, which means the absolute king had total control of any aspect of the
population.
Notwithstanding in France, in the late eighteenth century, absolutism constituted a huge obstacle to the
full development of the French bourgeoisie. The French revolution was a reflection of the bourgeoisie

The bourgeoisie, had a better social status, however they claimed for greater political participation and
more economic freedom in their work, since everything was ruled by the absolutist government.
Due this oppressive situation in France, and the visit of French intellectuals to the English Parliament,
the Old Regime began to be criticized, and intellectuals concluded that the present government in
France was unfair, and that the population was oppressed and unhappy. The traditional order should be
overturned, in the name of freedom. A proposal for a new society was created; the government would
only be fair when guaranteeing the freedom and equality of all before the law. Thus, the Universal
Law of legal equality was developed, and still prevails to this day: all men are created equal.
In the economy physiocracy (power of nature) was expected to occur, it should work naturally, that is
no barriers for business; the state should not meddle in the economy (with rules, monopolies, and
others). For the enlightenment intellectuals no society should be obliged to accept the tyranny. If a
government is oppressing and unsatisfactory the people have the right to fight to change it, ergo

Why Are Animals Endangered Animals
Why are animals being endangered? Endangered species are any species that s threatened; their

phenomena such as floods, hurricanes, thunderstorms, earthquakes, and fire. During natural disasters,
a lot of animals get killed, lose their homes, which cause them to migrate to another environment,

Communication Issues In Autistic Children
The word autism comes from a Greek word called autos, meaning self. Children with autism act very
different than children without. Autistic children are distant, non communicative, and anti social. They
also have repetitive behavior and have sensory problems. They are most relaxed when they are in their
own little world. A couple activities that they do when comfortable is staring blank into space and
spinning around in circles. Children without the disease goes through developmental steps, which are
learning how to smile at their parents, how to crawl, how to walk, how to speak, and how to play with

The definition of communication is, The process of exchanging information in different forms with
other people. There are two different types of communicating, one way is by speaking a language,
another way is by using body language. There are also three phases of communication. The first
phrase is intentional communication, the use of vocalization and gestures, in order to grab attention
from another or try to succeed to get a want or need. Then there is symbolic communication, the
interaction with others by using early language. The third phase is linguistic communication, the skill
to participate in a conversation in full disclosure with another in different types of communication.
The first order of social interaction is crying. Next, is eye gaze and the observation of facial
expressions, this is when infants start to form connections between people and items and understand
emotions. ASD children would rather look at objects than people, would look at an object as a part,
not as a whole, and would only be infatuated with one item at a time, instead of looking at other
objects as well. When an infant is between six to seven months old, they start to begin to babble, along

  • 2. Eudora Welty s Delta Wedding The Roaring Twenties and the Jazz Age describe an era of prosperity and entertainment. With fancy parties, cars, houses, and a multitude of wealth, people go about their day with frivolity. However, not all were willing to accept the social changes that goes with the 1920s. One such novel that addresses the liberal era and some reluctance is Eudora Welty s novel Delta Wedding. Beginning with Laura McRaven travelling to visit her extended family, the Fairchilds, at their plantation in the Mississippi Delta, she experiences the turmoil surrounding her departed mother s family: the uproar of the oncoming wedding, the tension between her aunts, and the difficulties one must face in becoming a Fairchild. Despite Laura playing the main role of the novel, Welty uses her minor character Robbie Reid to explore the compact Southern family and the polarity between precedent archetypes and the liberal woman of the 1920s. Welty uses the temporary separation of Robbie, Laura s aunt by marriage, and her husband, George, to highlight how swiftly the Fairchilds will band together and turn against those who are deemed outsiders. Towards the middle of the novel, Welty introduces Aunt Tempe who, upon hearing the news of Robbie s departure, exclaims, I d like to see her! She ll get no welcome from me, flighty thing . . . how can people hurt George (139). Even Ellen, who like Robbie married into the Fairchild household, strides to George s defense; I don t know. . . . • 3. Oil Sands Research Paper Canada has the third largest oil sand deposit in the world, following Saudi Arabia and Venezuela. Oil sands are not only a crucial part of today s energy production, but they also greatly impact the politics and economy of a country. However, the oil sands take a large toll on the environment. While this massive carbon footprint can be decreased and possibly eradicated with laws and regulations, the current environmental impact is troubling. Many argue that further expansion of the oil sands will have an additional impact on the environment, therefore creating a larger carbon footprint and increasing the effects of global warming. Another aspect that is often brought up in the debate of the oil sands is their economic benefit and the impact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... researchers say, describes why Canada should stop the expansion of the oil sands. The CBC s article is based upon information formed by a panel of biologists, political scientists, physicists, economists and geographers. The group came to the conclusion that the oil sands expansion needs to end, though they did not call for completely halting Canada s oil sands operations. The following is a scientific explanation as to why expansion needs to end according to the CBC, No new oil sands or related infrastructure projects should proceed unless consistent with an implemented plan to rapidly reduce carbon pollution, safeguard biodiversity, protect human health, and respect treaty rights . The article goes even further by bringing up the fact that Canada s previous prime minister, Stephen Harper, agreed that by 2100, Canada will stop the use of all fossil fuels, and therefore expansion of the oil sands will be a waste of money seeing as they will no longer be prevalent in eighty years time. Furthermore, this article does not bring up or dismiss arguments supporting the expansion of oil sands, rather as the article progresses, it becomes less distinctive as to what the argument actually is. Therefore, though the sources and opinions of this article are presented without bias, they are not as consistent and less powerful than the arguments presented by the Globe and ... • 4. Space Shuttle Challenger Essay Space Shuttle Challenger 1. Why did NASA decide to launch Challenger? The shuttle program was under political attack. Congress was dissatisfied with the program, and the president poorly defended it, this led to sever budget cuts. In order to keep the program alive NASA had to prove that it could pay for itself. To attract customers and retain Congressional support, NASA had to prove that it could launch a large number of flights on time. This stressed the already threatened Launch schedule. No one at NASA wanted to be responsible for delays. So when the safety comsernes of a few people threatened delaying an already delayed launch, they were ignored and suppressed as the information moved up the food chain. I would also blame Thiokol management for folding under presser and overruling its concerned engineers. Also, NASA management for pressuring its subcontractors and obsessing so much with the need to fly that they ignored safety. 5. How might the Morton Thiokol engineers have convinced NASA and their own management to postpone the launch? It appears to me that the Morton Thiokol engineers had valid evidence to support their clame. All the Thiokol engineers agreed that the cold weather would decrease the elasticity, and damage the synthetic rubber O rings, Flight 51 C proved this. Weather data also showed that the O rings were not at proper operation levels on launch day. Although they didn t have much data at lower tempetures, what they said made sense. It appears to me that the only way to convince management that the O rings were not going to hold was to test them at lower tempetures, but that would have taken time. 6. • 6. Graduate University Of California At Los Angles Essay I am quite delighted that as a student from a very small town with limited educational facilities in Iran, I have reached to the point to consider myself eligible to apply for University of California at Los Angles. After finishing my early education, my strength in mathematics guided me to continue this field in high school and from then on I was appealed to the application of mathematic in real world problems. As for university, however, I preferred to pursue this interest in Industrial Engineering major rather than Applied Mathematic mainly because the former had a broader perspective of future careers. During my bachelor degree, I realized that despite the extensive undergraduate study, I still need to complete the graduate study to discover my ultimate career goals. In addition, upon graduation, I took the opportunity and worked for one year as an industrial engineer to ascertain whether I am suitable for academic environment or job market. Ultimately, after finishing the master degree in Tsinghua University, I came to the conclusion that my passion for research makes me a better fit in academic area. Hence, I decided to follow my graduate study in Ph.D. level and accordingly apply for a faculty position. As a result of this definite decision, I even turn down the job offer of Mercedes Benz Company for battery localization project in Beijing. As mention above, my initial interest was in the application of mathematic. This interest began to incline toward economic and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Founding And Development Of The Sociology Of Youth Zubok and Chuprov s research article The Founding and Development of the Sociology of Youth in This Country (2009), focuses on the sociology of youth and the way it has developed and progressed over the years. Beginning in the 1960s, the study of youth developed as a special area of research (Zubok and Chuprov 2009:23), essentially focusing on the domestic life of young families (2009:23) as expressed by E. Kabo, the ideas of peasant kids (2009:23) as explained by N. Rybnikov, and the position of adolescent blue collar workers employed in production (2009:23) as presented by I. Ianzhaul A. Bernshtein Kogan. Social scientist involved in the development of the study of youth proposed the idea of establishing theoretical conceptions of social development of young people (2009:26) so society would better understand youth and their actions. This development would involve communicative rationality, which allowed social scientist to address the underlying issues faced by youth, who at the time were unable to speak up about occurrences and decisions in society that affected them. The platform through which communicative rationality presents itself occurred in the first nationwide study titled A Social Portrait of Young People (Zubok and Chuprov 2009:23), dedicated to addressing a diverse number of problems involving youth. The structure would: provide a valid idea of the social makeup of young people and its constituent categories (Zubok and Chuprov 2009:23), ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lately, a whole new type of news has begun circulating without much of a second glance. This form of news, referred to as fake news , contains fraudulent or misleading information that masquerades itself as real news. While some believe that fake news is easy to discern from real news, that is not the case. Because of this, the circulation of fake news has real and significant political consequences. The most obvious and relevant of these consequences is the election of the forty fifth president of the United States. Harris admits to fabricating an individual who found fraudulent Clinton ballots. He found an image of a man standing in front of many boxes with the label ballot box written on them. Despite not knowing who the man in the image was, he claimed that he was Randall Prince, the individual that he fabricated (Shane). He bought an expired internet domain for five dollars, published it on that website, and before it knew it the article was being shared all across the web. It went so far that the Franklin County, Ohio, board of elections announced that it was investigating the claims, and later made a public statement denying the story (Shane). Harris simply took a claim that Trump had publicly shared and created an entirely fabricated piece of fiction that appeared to back up Trump s claim. It was simple, and it spread like wildfire, possibly turning more individuals into Trump supporters. Unfortunately, news, and all too often fake news, spreads incredibly fast as this example illustrates. One author even compared it to a disease. The propagation of such information through social networks bears many similarities of infectious diseases (Kucharski). The only way fake news can spread is through the sharing of it through either social media or word of mouth. This turns out to be the case when it comes to the election of Donald Trump. In this film Jack, who is a large skeleton and also the king of Halloween, discovers the holiday of Christmas and decides that he will become Santa Claws to give the big guy a break and prove that he could do it better. Another reason Jack did this is because he is tired of Halloween and wants to make a major change in his life since being the Pumpkin King is no longer fulfilling for him. One of the most important things of a good film is to have a satisfying ending for the viewer. Without giving any spoilers away, The Nightmare Before Christmas has an ending that will leave you feeling good instead of leaving with a bad taste in your mouth. Also it s important for a good film to be engaging throughout its entirety. The Nightmare Before Christmas is a story that can keep any viewer sucked into its fantasy world because the story never has a dull moment. Another important part of making a good movie is that the story line is original and not overdone. The Nightmare Before Christmas is a hundred percent original and is the only movie that has done this story line to date which makes it not only unique but worth watching. Good acting is another thing that could make or break a movie when it comes to being good. While The Nightmare Before Christmas doesn t have actors actually on the screen it has voice actors who made sure that their voices conveyed the emotions of the scenes throughout the movie. Relatable characters are a key point of any good movie because the viewers often want to be able to put themselves into the movie. • 24. The Nature of Humans in Lord of the Flies by William Golding The nature of human: are humans born good or evil? These two opposing views on human nature are two topics that Rousseau and Golding have both touched upon. While Golding believes that humans are born inherently evil, Rousseau believes the opposite: that humans are inherently good. Golding wrote the novel Lord of the Flies as a response of the novel, The Coral Island by R.M. Ballantyne because he believed that it was far fetched. In this novel Ballantyne s main characters are able to enjoy their time on the deserted island. My opinion on this matter leans to Rousseau s side. I believe that people are born naturally good. Jean Jacques Rousseau was born in Geneva in 1712 and died in 1778 in France. While Golding lived through the two World Wars, Rousseau never lived through such conflict. A topic of Rousseau s that always came up is about how humans can keep their freedom despite their dependence on one another. He believed that there were two things that had something to do with this topic and that was a human s material and psychological need and that the latter was more important. Rousseau believed that humans get their sense of self due to opinion of others. Rousseau believes that humans are inherently born good and that and that it is society s corruption that causes humans to be evil. It was desperation of this sort, biologists reckon, that led dwindling wolf populations in southern Ontario to begin, a century or two ago, breeding widely with dogs and coyotes. The clearance of forests for farming, together with the deliberate persecution which wolves often suffer at the hand of man, had made life tough for the species. That same forest clearance, though, both permitted coyotes to spread from their prairie homeland into areas hitherto exclusively lupine, and brought the dogs that accompanied the farmers into the mix. Skydiving is an adrenaline based sport with a fairly simple concept jump from a high place (usually out of a plane) from several thousand feet above sea level and hope and pray for a safe landing. This safe landing is often times achieved through the use of a device called a parachute, which enables the skydiver to reduce his speed to such a point that colliding with the earth will not be fatal. This paper will explain a few of the key concepts behind the physics of skydiving. First we will explore why a skydiver accelerates after he leaps out of the plane before his jump, second we will try and explain the drag forces effecting the skydiver, and lastly we will attempt to explain how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lets examine a free body diagram of this situation. One may now clearly see why Joe does not accelerate downward while he remains is in the plane. The normal force of the plane is acting against the normal force of the gravity acting on Joe s 100 kilogram mass (this is getting close to the maximum weight allowed for skydiving). Since the sum of the forces in the y, or upward direction, is equal to zero, there is effectively no force acting on Joe. Thus, the acceleration of Joe must be zero. Now that Joe understands why he is remaining at a constant altitude, he s ready to take his first jump. Joe is given the signal to jump from the jump master, and he steps right off the edge of the plane. Joe is now instantly accelerating in the downward direction. Joe s acceleration will soon cause him to travel at a rapid rate. But exactly how fast will he be traveling at a certain time? Without this knowledge, Joe could easily splatter against the surface of the earth. In order to calculate Joe s velocity at any time, T, we use the following equation: X = Vi * T + .5 * g * t^2 Where X is the change in distance, Vi is the initial velocity, t is time, and g is the acceleration due to gravity. Since we know Joe s initial velocity was 0, and the acceleration of gravity is always 9.8 m/s^2, we can calculate how far Joe has traveled at any point in time. Formation the German Confederation created by the Congress of Vienna had 39 states, each having its dues and tolls on goods passim through its territory. This made goods expensive and hindered trade. In the words of a contemporary, Dr. Bowring who commented in 1840 as follows: The Zollverein had brought the sentiment of German nationality out of the regions of hope and fancy into those of positive and material interests. The general feeling is that it is the first step towards what is called the Germanization of the people. It has broken down some of the strongest holds of alienation and hostility. By a community of interests on commercial and trading questions it has prepared the way for a political nationality. Strengthened Prussian leadership with the help of the Zollverein, Prussia became economically supreme in the German Confederation. The 1818 Tariff Act and subsequent trade agreements stimulated Prussian trade and economic development. As the Zollverein gradually extended the area of free trade within its boundaries, Prussian economy prospered. In 1848 the Bank of Prussia was founded to assist economic growth. • 42. The Debate Over Open Carry Of Handguns In recent years, open carry of handguns has become the controversial issue in America since the Supreme Court s decisions in District of Columbia v. Heller and in McDonald v. City of Chicago advocated protecting the Second Amendment (MELTZER). More and more states have allowed certain forms of open carry law for handguns, but Texas is one of few states that prohibit outright any open carry of guns (GRIEDER). The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution states a well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. The people who support the open carry law point out that bans on gun are against the Second Amendment, which established the right for every citizen to keep and bear arms. The National Rifle Association (NRA), the powerful lobby against gun control, believes that human will still use their gun responsibly if there is no law (National Rifle...); however, the people who do not support open carry argue that gun control can decrease the risk of crime and also stop the potential to serial shooters to occur. DNA was extracted, amplified by PCR and was subjected to electrophoresis to prove the absence of a genetically modified organism in the non GMO Cheetos. Using DNA molecules from samples of interest is the favored method in GMO detection because DNA is easily recognizable and very stable (Gaudio, 2009). The gel electrophoresis picture shows the different sizes of the DNA fragments from the Cheetos. As pictured in figure one, there was a band for the sample containing the plant primers in lane eight for the photosystem II gene which served as a target area to ensure that the DNA extraction occurred (Smith, 2015). In lane nine was the test food with GMO primers, which did not show a band. This means that the Cheetos lacked a GMO gene and there was no presence of the CaMV promoter and the Nos promoter in the sample food. This concludes that the Cheetos do not contain a GMO, like the packaging indicates. Lanes ten and eleven shows fragments because they were positive controls and were expected to show up with a molecular weight of 500 bp and 200 bp, respectively. The target DNA to detect the GMO was at the CaMV and Nos promoter, which are both present in the GMO positive controls. The negative controls can also be seen ... • 44. Machiavelli and the Use of Antiquity in The Prince and The... Machiavelli and the Use of Antiquity in The Prince and The Discourses The Renaissance was a time of classical revival and a turning point from the Middle Ages to the Early Modern period in the course of history. Ancient texts and artifacts became sources of inspiration for intellectuals and artists alike, and the desire to emulate or even surpass the achievements of the past prompted them to study antiquities closely and saw them as models and guidance. People were consciously distinguishing themselves from the medieval thoughts and using history to make something new for their own era. In the field of political philosophy there s no exception. Niccolo Machiavelli is perhaps the most representative and groundbreaking figure of this trend in political philosophy. With his erudition in ancient literature, histories and political thoughts, Machiavelli draws various sources from antiquity to critic and response to the political environment of histime. While one may find seemingly discrepancies in The Prince and The Discourse on the First Ten Books of Tius Livy, the use of histories as guide to demonstrate or propose ideal rules is apparent in both works. We should note that synthesizing ancient philosophy or thoughts with contemporary thoughts is nothing new. Thomas Aquinas, for example, reconciled Aristotelianism and Christianity in his work Summa Theologica, using ancient antiquity to back up his Christian beliefs.
