Robert Heinlein Research Paper
Robert Heinlein was born on 7 July 1907, in Butler, Missouri, the third son of Rex Ivar Heinlein and
Bam Lyle Heinlein. He read all the science fiction he could lay hands on from the age of 16. He
attended classes at U.C.L.A. for only several weeks, and then left college to take up a career in
politics. After a long grueling trip around the politics department he retired. He soon found, that he
could not stay retired. He had somehow acquired a permanent itch for writing and allowed himself to
be talked back into it. Over a four day period in April 1939, Heinlein wrote the story Life Line. It was,
by the standards of a later day, somewhat stiff, but Heinlein recognized that it was head and shoulders
above the usual offerings of Thrilling Wonder ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Campbell accepted a revised version of the rejected story, published later under Heinlein s original
working title of Goldfish Bowl. Heinlein applied for active duty, but was rejected for medical reasons
tuberculosis scars on his lungs and myopia (nearsightedness) beyond the limits allowed even for the
staff corps. But a buddy in the navy, Albert Scoles, was in charge of the Materials Laboratory at the
Naval Air Experimental Station at Mustin Field, near Philadelphia, and he wanted to take on Heinlein
as a civilian engineer. He and wife Leslyn found a house in Lansdowne, a suburb of Philadelphia, and
Heinlein went to work on what he described as the necessary tedium of aviation engineering.
Although he was trained as a mechanical engineer specializing in linkages, his experience with aircraft
on the U.S.S. Lexington targeted him toward the Navy s aircraft program. One of the more interesting
aspects of his work was two letters written in the closing weeks of the war, formally urging the Navy
to take up space exploration. One was killed at the Materials Laboratory. The other went up the naval
hierarchy, finally reaching the level of Truman s

Criminal Justice Case Summary
Introduction
Christopher Byers, Michael Moore, and Steven Branch were second graders in Weaver Elementary
School (Egan, 2016). On May 5, 1993, they went missing after going on a bike ride in West Memphis,
Arkansas (Leveritt, 2002). On the next day, their bruised and mutilated hog tied naked bodies were
found in Robin Hood Hills near Interstate 40, setting off an all out effort to find their murderers
(Linder, 2013). Within a month, police was convinced that three outcast teenagers were responsible
(Linder, 2013). With pressure on their backs to find the culprits, authorities arrested them. They were
known around town for wearing black and listening to heavy metal (Egan, 2016). At that time,
investigators felt that 18 year old Damien Echols, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Wisconsin (Egan, 2016). Echols mentioned that wrongful imprisonment continues to happen and will
continue to do so until the criminal justice system is held to a higher standard (Egan, 2016).
Baldwin, who is the youngest among the three, moved to Seattle. He bought his home there within
five months (Egan, 2016). He is now married, and helped with the Dark Spell: Surviving the Sentence
(2014) book, written by Leveritt, by providing a first hand account of what it was like to be shackled
and thrown into prison at the age of 16 (Egan, 2016). He was also the executive producer of the Devil
s Knot (film), based off the book (Egan, 2016).
He created a Kickstarter campaign, raising $30,000 for a memoir he plans to release (Egan, 2016). In
one of his last interviews, he stated his desire to attend law school and utilize his experiences to help
wrongfully convicted individuals (Egan, 2016).
Misskelley was the only one among the three to return to West Memphis after release (Egan, 2016).
Since then, he had stayed out of spotlight (Egan, 2016).

With The Old Breed Essay
With the Old Breed by E.B. Sledge, is a memoir that tells the story of training and two battles fought
on Peleliu and Okinawa during his time served in WWII in the K Company, 5th Marine regiment, 1st
Marine Division. This memoir serves as a primary source that truly displays the horrors, conditions,
and attitude that were felt by the soldiers that fought in the Pacific. This memoir examines the
hardships that were felt by the Marines. As I got further into the book, I saw the changes in his
character, integrity, and morality. I believe that the chapter titles surely represent the characteristics
and feelings involved in the book. Making a Marine, Assault into Hell, Of Mud and Maggots are just
some of chapters that provide the essence and foresight of the book. Making a Marine is a very
ambiguous title for a chapter. Making a Marine does not just stand for a man in uniform. Making a
Marine describes the blood, sweat, and tears that these brave men go through to serve their country.
You people are recruits. You re not Marines. You may not have what it takes to be Marines. (Pg. 8)

While reading his memoir, Sledge accurately depicts how war is hell. The constant bombardment and
explosions from the mortars, grenades, and other weapons were absurdly rattling and loud that
soldiers could only hear each other by yelling. Sledge suggests that that waiting is a major part of war
, but in hell waiting is something that is not easily accomplished. I broke out in a cold sweat as the
tension mounted with the intensity of the bombardment. (Pg. 55) Sledge was amazed at how his dead
Japanese soldiers were looted from glasses to their gun. These are just some of the descriptive lines
that show the agony of war. Assault Into Hell adds meaning and grit to the terror Sledge had to go

Studying the Energy Industry in University
I am interested in the scientific, economical and business aspects of the energy industry, as they not
only have a big impact on our daily lives, but our future. I know that I would like to be part of this
important and growing enterprise in a way that connects science and business. I would l be happy to
study either at University, while developing my skills of the other simultaneously.
Geology is a science that fascinates me as am hugely interested in how and why Earth was formed the
way it was, and the factors involved, from the beginning to the present day. As oil and gas supplies run
out, renewable energy that can provide large amounts of power is becoming sought after, and geology
is a field that contributes hugely to the energy sector and is certainly needed for renewable energy as
well as fossil fuels. Another reason I love geology is the fact that there are so many different types:
glaciology, hydrology, meteorology etc., all of which I am keen to learn about, particularly
geochemistry as it studies at a molecular level. Likewise, the biology involved also fascinates me, as it
includes learning about how geological change affects life on earth.
However, without business management, the energy industry would not be able to operate and make
the money needed for funding valuable research that could help solve our future problems. I feel that
having good business skills gives you the ability to think strategically and make the best decisions.

Operation Eagle Claw
On 24 April 1980 s United States Special Operation forces , along with Joint Task Force 1 79 , led an
operation to save 52 American hostages trapped inside Tehran,Iran known as Operation Eagle Claw.
.The Operation was broken up into two phases. The first phase was to take place in Iran at a site called
Desert One. Desert One was an Airstrip for USAF special operations to use to land aircraft such as the
MC130, AC130H, and the RH53D. The MC130 was a fixed wing aircraft meant to transport ground
forces, the C130H was a gunship for security, and the RH53D was a mine sweeper and transported
ground forces. The RH53D was flown by United States Marine Corps aviators from the carrier USS
Nimitz. The plan was that these aircraft would fly under radar to Desert One, the men would offload at
the site, The Helicopters would refuel and be concealed at Desert Two. The next night the American
Forces would then extract the hostages, get to a soccer stadium where they would be picked up by
RH53D mine sweeping helicopters. The assaulting force would hit the compound with the security
provided by the AC130H. After extracting the hostages helicopters would bring the force from the
stadium to Manzariyeh Air Base outside Tehran ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

JSOC is there to train all special operation forces to work together but falls under USSOCOM. This is
important because it allows everybody to work on the same page. JSOC also allows other services

The Beatles’ Legacy Essay
The Beatles Legacy
Many know The Beatles as the most popular and influential music group of the 20th century. In the
early 1960 s, their popularity grew rather rapidly. They continued gaining popularity well through the
1960 s. Although their popularity has decreased somewhat over time, the influences they have
contributed during their career have remained apparent even today.
The Beatles originated from the UK in the early 1960 s. Before becoming known as the Fab Four the
Beatles had multiple band member alterations. In August 1960, after settling on the name the Beatles
the band had 5 members. Two years following the official band naming the number of members
decreased to four. The front line guitarists John Lennon, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their music was catchy and had a vitality and freshness to it that this time period wanted. They
delivered a laid back type of music. Almost like they were delivering the message that everything
would be fine. History shows that people flock to images of hope. During this time in the 60 s, the
message of hope, vitality, and care freeness was not only needed but also yearned for. However not
just anyone could have filled this position. The people of the 1960 s needed something new, fresh, and
uplifting. The Beatles fit that description perfectly.
The day they arrived in America the social phenomenon known as Beatlemania began. Many say that
to describe Beatlemania with words is impossible. It was a feeling more than anything. It was a mass
hysteria and deluge of emotions that had significant and extensive effects on society. These effects
shaped life, as we know it today.
The Beatles were highly talented musicians who had a very unique sound. Many of their albums ran
with different feelings and concepts. They offered variety, which people always enjoy. The Beatles
music was rooted in American rock and roll but also included some rhythm and blues. With the
introduction of this new sound, they redefined the parameters of rock and roll.
Their songs and the lyrics they consisted of were also very influential. Much like everything else they
did, their songs had variety. From a slow ballad in McCartney s Blackbird to the bizarre and intriguing

How Washington s Role And Legacy Has Been Manipulated By...
Kush Patel
Word Count: Edward G. Lengel, author of Inventing George Washington, brings a different approach
to writing historical books. He has collected and sifted through virtually all mediums of Washington s
life. Through his work I found a central theme of how Washington s role and legacy has been
manipulated by society. Lengel displays the way writers, critics, and religious leaders changed George
Washington s identity for their own personal benefits; they have altered his religious orientation and
his public image in both good and bad ways.
George Washington s religious beliefs have always been altered or unclear to the American society.
Lengel ponders, Washington considered attendance at religious services to be a civic duty. He believed
that morality and the unfettered practice of religion ensured the prosperity of a well organized society
(77). Washington was only partially religious to please the common people. He was selfless in doing
what was in the best interest of his nation than himself. By taking the role of president, he had to
sacrifice his own beliefs. The Valley Forge prayer incident was commonly disfigured by many. The
story began when a Quaker, by the name of Isaac Potts, saw Washington in prayer, according to
Mason Locke Weems. After the initial story, others began twisting it to their liking by adding horses or
barns. As Lengel states, The image of Washington in prayer became iconic (86). Artist painted
Washington in various scenes depicting

Activity Based Costing – Glaser Health Products Case
Introduction
Glaser Health Products manufactures medical items for the health care industry. Production involves
machining, assembly and painting. Finished units are then packed and shipped. The financial
controller is interested to introduce an activity based costing (ABC) system to allocate (or distribute)
indirect costs to products. Indirect costs, as distinct from direct costs, cannot be unambiguously linked
to specific products. The controller would like to calculate product costs based on ABC for planning
and control, not inventory valuation.
Under an ABC system, the allocation of costs to products is achieved through at least four analytical
steps. Firstly, costs are grouped into activity levels. Secondly, cost drivers are ... Show more content

Cost Drivers by Activity Level by Division
Cost drivers can be identified for each activity or cost category based on observation, discussions with
management, simulations and statistical studies. The key is to determine the behavior of indirect costs
with respect to activity or resource usage in each activity center (Leslie, 2009). These efforts have
identified the eight cost drivers shown in Table 3.
Direct labor assembly costs are, by their nature, directly traceable to individual products. Therefore
the relevant cost driver for this cost is the number of Direct Assembly Labor Hours. The other 21 cost
categories are indirect costs.
At the unit activity level, electricity assembly costs are likely to vary with Direct Labor Hours,
Assembly. Similarly, the three machining costs grouped at the unit activity level are likely to vary with
by the number of Direct Labor Hours, Machining.
Secondly, at the batch activity level, paint cost is likely to vary mainly with the Number of Batches
Processed. Painting activity is the only batch activity at Glaser.
Thirdly, at the product activity level, the two Operations costs are likely to vary mainly with the
Number of Units Produced and the three Sales costs are also likely to vary mainly with the Number of
Units Produced.
Finally, at the facility level, the five Operations costs are likely to vary mainly with the

While traveling on the Silk Road, merchants not only did business but exchanged ideas which shaped
China as we know it today. Two key examples would be Buddhism and Irrigation Systems (Doc. D).
Buddhism originated in India and was brought to China along the Silk Road. Buddhism is a path of
practice and spiritual development leading to Insight into the true nature of reality. Buddhist practices
like meditation are means of changing yourself in order to develop the qualities of awareness,
kindness, and wisdom (thebuddhistcentre.com). The three qualities of Buddhism; awareness, kindness,
and wisdom made China a happier, more pleasant place to live as it quickly spread around Ancient
China. The Persian invention of the Irrigation System allowed farmers to provide enough food and
decreased the chances of famines gigantically. Not only did the Silk Road bring new goods to China
but the Chinese inventions began appearing all over. During the Tang Dynasty (618 907) printing
techniques were introduced in Ancient China. In the thirteenth century many Europeans picked up
those techniques, via the Silk Road, and those same printing techniques made a debut in Europe
(travelchinaguide.com). Without the Great Wall protecting the Silk Road many key resources may not

Halo Game Comparison Essay
Since the debut of Halo in 2001, the game has become one of the most iconic first person shooters to
have ever entered the gaming industry. In Halo, players fight multiple alien races as the legendary
Spartan II, a genetically enhanced super soldier, named John S117. Recently, the creators of Halo
released a new game called Destiny; in the game, guardians fight off multiple alien races in an attempt
to destroy an ancient evil known as the Darkness. Many gamers claim that Halo and Destiny are very
different, however, a true Halo fan can identify the similarities between the two games. Though the
two games have small differences, Halo and Destiny are the same in many ways; the weapons, the
enemies fought, and the AI companion system. When a Halo fan picks up his first weapon in Destiny,
whether it be a scout rifle or an auto rifle, he should instantly be able to acknowledge the similarity in
mechanics. In Halo the weapon mechanics are simple, a player can pick up anything that he can find.
In contrast, Destiny has completely customizable weapon mechanics; a primary weapon slot, a
secondary weapon slot, and a heavy weapon slot. Aside from the way a player obtains his weapon,
everything else is the same. In Halo, the primary weapons were essentially assault rifles and

Frankenstein Revenge Theme Essay
The theme that stuck out to me in this novel Frankenstein is seeking revenge leads to a tragic outcome
. This theme can be seen through the monster killing William. The monster then went on to kill
Elizabeth on her and Victor s big wedding night to get back to Victor. The monster then leads Victor
into a long chase that ends up with a tragic outcome at the end that no one would have expected to
happen. One way that revenge occurs throughout this novel is when the monster takes his trip to
Geneva. While he is there he meets up with Victor s younger brother William. The monster kills
William and puts the locket in Justine s dress pocket, and makes it look like she had killed him and
this leads to the death of Justine. The monster then tells Victory that he needs a companion and that it

The s Nationalization Of The Suez Canal
Colonial power ruled Egypt for almost a hundred years, exploiting and extracting as much wealth
from Egypt as possible. After this long period of subjection to outside rule, Gamal Abdel Nasser
became president of Egypt in 1956. He was the first Egyptian who was a ruler of the people.
Egyptians, Arab nationalists, and many other world leaders loved Nasser and his leadership. His swift,
bloodless takeover and rise to president in conjunction with his smooth, calm speeches gained him
popularity. What truly made him infamous was his nationalization of the Suez Canal Company that
ended British influence in Egypt. Decades after his death, Nasser is still believed to be greater than
that of many other political leader since the Prophet Mohamed . However, many of Nasser s actions
demand that his rule be reconsidered. Nasser s nationalization of the media, repression of political
opponents, institutionalized torture of the Muslim Brotherhood, and failure to successfully implement
his national planning all suggest that Nasser s actions contributed to the many economic, political, and
military problems Egypt faces today
In one of the first events to centralize his power, Nasser nationalized the media in 1960 shortly after
becoming the central leader of Egypt in 1954 . Nasser became incredibly popular early in his reign.
Arabs and Egyptians rallied in support of his socialist reform proposals and Nasser s efforts to unify
all Arabs in the name Arab nationalism. The

According to the latest Scientific Assessment of Ozone Depletion issued by the United Nations and
the US Government, human influenced ozone depletion may peak around 1998
and will persist well into the 21st century. For the US and other mid latitude countries of the Northern
Hemisphere, ozone losses during summer and fall months may peak at 6 7% relative to ozone
concentrations in the 1960s. Winter/spring depletion could peak at nearly twice those levels.
Vienna Convention and Skin Cancer Incidence
The 1985 Vienna Convention built a baseline for international restrictions on the production of ozone
depleting substances. To evaluate the consequences of these restrictions the convention and its
associates projected skin cancer incidence under three scenarios: 1) no restrictions (the Business as
Usual curve); (2) reduced production of five ozone depleting chemicals by 50 percent by 1999 (under

Rap And Hip Hop Music
Rap and hip hop music have evolved politically over the last decade; these genres have become major
forces and influential political factors for North American youth and young adults. For example, Nas,
a popular rap star of politically motivated songs sold 1 million copies of his first album Illmatic by
Dec. 2001, and by 2004 Nas released his 7th platinum album Street Disciple. The album Street
Disciple contained a powerful political song titled American Way . In addition, Lakeyta M Bonnet s
book Pulse of the People: Political Rap Music and Black Politics, expresses the way hip hop music
acts as a catalyst for the involvement of urban minorities in politics. While Paint the White House
Black an academic journal by Richmond, Sanford K. displays the present day relationship the current
president in America has with hip hop music. The song American Way , along with the book Pulse of
the People, and the Academic Journal Paint the White House Black elaborate on how hip hop music
and politics were born with conflict, but are evolving toward better recognition of hip hop culture in
democracy.
In America freedom of speech is a right and various artists use this to their advantage in order to
impact political thought. Many Artists, like Nas, relate to a subordinate class of American society
because he was born and raised in Brooklyn New York. In the song American Way he refers to himself
as the spokesperson for Black Men (Nas l. 8) demonstrating how there is an entire

The Woman In Black Play Review
On Thursday 29th September 2016, we attended a performance of The Woman in Black at the Fortune
Theatre in the West End, London. It was set in a traditional proscenium arch theatre which is situated
on an enclosed street which applies to the horror genre and the idea of isolation. The size of the theatre
was alarmingly small with compact seating, creating a sense of claustrophobia, suffocation and lack of
escape from The Woman in Black . The stage seemed diminutive with the curtain, and the
minimalistic set with old fashioned props instantly set a Victorian impression. The minimalism
conveyed how the actors could present a play without ostentatious props and keep the focus on
themselves. The monochromatic colours of the programme enhance ... Show more content on

In the rehearsal scene, there were references to the sound technician. This was a Brechtian technique
of the audience being aware of a play within a play. Most sound effects were specific and recorded,
like the city hustle and bustle, the screams and the voices when reading things aloud. However, the
one sound that stood out to me was the music box. Being the only live sound we hear, relates to the
naturalism of the nursery and how Jennet Humfrye s love for her son is infinite. Music boxes were
commonly a gift for a child, or a token of love for a partner in the Victorian times. The idea of love is
additionally demonstrated when Kipps is reading a letter alongside Stella. This shows his
remembrance of her voice and how much he misses her. The ticking of the clock at the beginning of
the play reminds the audience of a countdown, a signal that something is about to happen. This relates
to the rhythmic rocking of the chair, similar to a heartbeat, echoing around the house, resembling
Nathaniel s pulse. This again adds humanity to the nursery. When Kipps stops the chair from rocking,
everything is silent which signifies the death of Nathaniel and how in reality he is gone. Contrasting to
the naturalism, there is repetition of the Woman s screams. These created an abstract soundscape that
made the audience feel frightened, mimicking the discomforting feeling of the horror genre. The Pony
and Trap sounds came

Epiphary In Katherine Mansfield s The Garden Party
There are many reasons behind an author s story. Mainly it is to portray a message, give a good laugh,
or explain a purpose, but the author will get their point across to their readers. In Katherine Mansfield
s, The Garden Party, she focuses on a young, upperclass girl, with the name of Laura Sheridan. During
the story, the Sheridan family is preparing to host a very lively garden party. Unfortunately for the
circumstance, there has been a death in their community. The Scott family, who is of the middle class,
had just lost their husband and their father. The wake for Mr. Scott just so happens to be during the
time of the garden party. The separation of classes causes an unsettling act of sympathy from Laura.
She can not decide whether to be on the right side or the wrong side of the situation. The death of Mr.
Scott allows Laura Sheridan to experience an epiphany, as she encounters the difference s between the
upper and middle classes, life and death, and a new perspective of life. Many people are often judged
by their appearances, living arrangements, or income status. That is how the world views and
classifies people to place them in a hierarchical stature.
There were a few middle class workers hired to set up a marquee at the Sheridan house. Since Laura
was considered to be the artistic one (EastoftheWeb 2) of her siblings, she was chosen to conduct the
hired workers on where to set up the marquee. During her time as supervisor, she overhears a tragic

European And Non-European Expansion In The 1500s And 1600s
Europeans had many ambitions throughout the 1500s and 1600s. To achieve their goals, they deferred
to the non European culture. The main question remains: how did the Europeans accommodate
themselves to Non European culture? The European traders and missionaries would accommodate
themselves by integrating into the Non European culture, by adapting their physical appearance, by
referring to the traditional practices, and through the response of the native people wants to European
goods.
For Europe s influence to be successful across the world, they had a guide written by Father Jean de
Brébeuf, called Instructions for The Fathers of Our Society Who Shall Be Sent to The Hurons. In this
small guide, Father Jean, writes instruction for other European members to follow in order to be
successful in their influence in the new world. The thought of being the superior race, followed them
to the new world, so embracing a culture that they thought was low class, was a big change to the
European men. As to the other numerous things which may be unpleasant, they must be endured for
the love of God, without saying anything or appearing to notice them. They did not do anything that
contradicts the Natives belief, as they were trying to convert them to the idealized culture. They were
doing so in a way that the Natives did not realize they were being converted. So, the Europeans
change their normal customs, to gain their trust. In which they accommodate to non European ways.

The Separation Surgery On Conjoined Twins
I would usually read books like this, but I would like to mention how interesting it was while reading.
One of Us has valuable information and stories of conjoined twins, not only in the United States but
all around the world. I found it interesting how the author uses medical term and quantitative data to
identify the different types of twin and how many are there. I did not know there were so many
different types of conjoined twin, and where they are attached or infused. Alice Dreger purpose of this
book is analyzing case studies both past and present, along with questions and assumptions about
anatomy and normality, and transforms our understanding of how we are all intricately and
inextricably joined. She also explored the separation surgery on conjoined twins. Providing historical
and contemporary evidence that most adults conjoined twins do not desire to be separated, and that
many operations are carried out on children too young, by individualizing them at all cost which may
result in a tragic event.
Most children born with challenging anatomies have their bodies changed because of what physicians
were forcing parents to believe there is no hope fundamentally. One of Us views conjoined twins, as
people living with unique anatomies, and considers these issues within the larger historical context of
anatomical politics. In the book, it spoke about a few conjoined twins that were exploited by putting
them on display and numerous exhibitions. Chang and Eng Bunker

Summary Of Bertrand Russell s The Conquest Of Happiness
Bertrand Russell was a British philosopher and mathematician throughout the late 19th and 20th
centuries. He wrote in many philosophical areas, including epistemology, ethics, and metaphysics,
with some of his most notable works being Theory of Knowledge, Why I m Not a Christian, and In
Praise of Idleness. He also worked with mathematics and logic, penning Principia Mathematica and
Introduction to Mathematical Philosophy. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1950 for
various pieces of writing he had published. He was also very openly pacifist, and even went to jail in
1918 for publicly encouraging anti war ideology during World War I. Russell is widely considered to
be an incredibly influential thinker and writer. One of his popular works, The Conquest of Happiness,
discusses the unhappiness that many ordinary people suffer from and how to fix it. The first nine
chapters detail causes of unhappiness, including pessimism, competition, excitement, and emotional
fatigue. Russell displays many scenarios in which these qualities are present and why they cause such
unhappiness to begin with. He then spends seven more chapters explaining what causes happiness,
including an individual s relationships with their jobs, spouses, and other family. He demonstrates the
reasons why these are so effective in creating happiness in people and how these goals can be reached.
The book overall preaches contentment rather than total elation, relaxation rather than constant

Sophocles Euripides Antigone
In Sophocles Antigone, and in Euripides Medea, the Greek authors take on the topic of justice. Each
playwright addresses the issue of injustices suffered by women and the concept of natural law. In both
tragedies, the female leads seek justice after natural laws had been broken, but they ultimately break
the natural law themselves, resulting in more injustice.
During Medea s first long speech (lines 212 271), she declares that women are stricken with the most
wretched existence on earth. Within this speech, Euripides draws attention to many of the injustices
women underwent in ancient Athens. He refers particularly to their dependence on marriage and their
absence of a public life. A man, when he gets fed up with the people at home, can go elsewhere to ease
his heart he has friends, companions his own age. We must rely on just one single soul, (lines 247
250). Here Medea point out how all women must rely on their husbands, while their husbands are
allowed to go out and a public life with friends.
A way that it is shown that women are viewed as wicked is through the portrayal of Medea being a
wild woman from a non Greek, land of the barbarian (line 261). Rather than being a Greek citizen,
Medea is compared to the other characters in the play, as being more impulsive and primed to do
something immoral. In the play, Medea isn t just pursuing justice in response to Jason and Creon s
crimes, but is also seeking to correct the injustice of the unequal

The Impact Of Internet On Our Lives
Since the internet was created, people have been using it more and more every day. It has gotten to the
point that people are looking on either their computers, tablets, or phones for the majority of their day.
This has affected every one of those people and is going to continue to affect the new generations our
lives are going to become more and more technology based. The biggest way that this has affected
people is by being able to read off of the interned whenever they please, and by being able to do this
both the cognitive abilities and intellectual development of people have been affected and it will also
affect these aspects in children who are growing up in today s world. A way in which the internet has
affected people is by weakening their cognitive abilities, this is done in multiple ways. One of those
ways is particularly being noticed in the children of today, that is them being more worried about if
they will like it rather than how long material is. This is mainly a problem when the person is looking
for research, either in a book or online. So the person decides to use the internet to find what they are
looking for because of the fact that it doesn t take as much work. Then when the person finds
something that is even a little bit related to what they are looking for, they stop, even if it isn t the best
article. Christine Rosen, the writer of People of the Screen, compared this process to the gold rush and
more specifically the 49ers. The person just goes

19Th and 20th Century Gender Expectations in Literature The late 19th century produced a myriad of
successful authors, poets and play writes that often incorporated the local customs, traditions and
expectations of the time (and perhaps their own experiences) into their work. A fact of the times, even
into early 20th century, is that women were not equal to men and the expectations of women were not
equal as well. This point will be illustrated by comparative analysis of two separate forms of literature:

Clugston, 2010a, 1.1.26 29). She has no real intention of going for a walk with him as she did not
intend to go to the races, but does not want to see him go alone to the races and enjoy himself alone,
either. This is another example of manipulation; her manipulating him and vice versa, and starts the
back and forth farce of both supposedly wanting to spend the day together when they really do not
(Clugston, 2010a). When Jeanne decides Henri can go to the races alone because she intends to go see
a friend, Henri decides he will stay at home and not go to the races (Clugston, 2010a). This is an
obvious representation of the husband not trusting the wife, and even though she has given sanction to
him to proceed, he abandons all intentions to leave because of his suspicion of her meeting with her
friend and also perhaps meeting another man. The deception between both characters is obvious at this
point in the play but not obviously clear as to why. Though we know by this point that Henri s
intention has always been to go to the races alone, it is not yet clear why Jeanne reacts the way she
does. Is it that she is abused, or expected to stay

Computer Science And Medicine Or Art Science
The STEM related fields have always tended to be predominantly male; engineering and my major of
interest computer science are composed mainly of male students. These fields have just recently
started seeing more and more women pursuing them. Computer Science is an amazing field and offers
a variety of opportunities in terms of how it can be applied; it can be a combination of computer
science and another field computer science and medicine or art/design. There are endless possibilities
as to what future technology can be developed and what new ideas can be created because of
engineers, but if the field remains mostly comprised of men then we re missing out on the many ideas
that the female side and perspective may have to offer.
Learning about Corrinne Yu was enlightening because not only is she an engineer but she s one of the
best in her field, whether it be through gaming, physics, or mechanics. It s refreshing to hear about a
woman changing the standards so drastically in a male oriented industry like that of gaming because
from my experiences girls who play video games are considered doing it for attention or the male
approval rather than the idea that we generally enjoy just playing the game. Knowing that some of the
designs that transformed the way gaming is now ran was due to her incredible ability, gave me a lot of
hope and ambition to strive to be able to do half of what she was capable of. While doing my research

other states that are not currently ratified or signed with the treaty, than the current jurisdiction could

the criminals for the arrest warrants are seen to be remaining at large; the current funding of the court

With such a low budget, it does not help that the International Criminal Court does not own their own
police force or enforcement body thus being the only way is to rely on supporting countries armies,
police force, national guard, etc... to capture the warrants that are handed out for the apprehension of
criminals. If the increase of the $146 million dollar budget is to happen, then the funding could help
support a sole police task force for the International Criminal Court, in which they do not have to rely
on other countries but rather themselves. Solely having their own police task force will allow for the
issue of more warrants within supporting countries due to not having to rely on their police force, but
rather their own. As stated from the International Criminal Court, As a judicial institution, the ICC
does not have its own police force or enforcement body; thus, it relies on cooperation with countries
worldwide for support, particularly for making arrests, transferring arrested persons to the ICC

it is actually quite small. Alike, the jurisdiction is accounting for the four sums of crimes: genocide,

The Theory Of Knowledge And Power
INTRODUCTION Post Foucauldian theory of knowledge and power, knowledge has been used as a
synonym for power. In 21st century they are considered as two sides of the same coin. Power gives an
individual the ability to make others obey in a social relationship irrespective of the basis. As per
Foucault power is not only brutal physical force rather an invisible form of network that operates. At
times, the operator has no knowledge of this invisible power which controls others. Similarly,
knowledge is defined as a belief of an individual or society which is right and justified with a logical
explanation. Thus, the assumption that is not true can t be quantified as a knowledge. Belief that is
true doesn t qualify as knowledge. It must be explained in order to be called as knowledge. How the
belief is justified has been debated over 2000 years by different scholars, radical writers and
philosophers and yet to receive a consensus. The relationship between knowledge and power was
established by Michael Foucault in a more explorative way as compared to his previous counterparts.
According to him knowledge and power both shares a healthy relationship in a continuous manner. As
per Foucault s theory power develops through feed of knowledge and in turn power generates
knowledge. This method based upon assumption knowledge changes with time. For example new
discourse leads to new knowledge (Ball, 2013). Thus, a society that has gained power through
knowledge has the power to direct

Phineas Bresee Reflection
I was immediately drawn to Phineas Bresee when I read this assignment because his ministry to the
poor is usually the first thing I think of when I think of Phineas Bresee. His love for the outreach to
the poor and needy should be an example for us all. However, I feel that his message may have lost a
little of its impact today, and we need to make a habit of revisiting it, and his passion for ministering
to the poor. I have been guilty of having the thoughts of how my ministry would be different if I was a
large church with lots of people and money. I am quickly reminded that problems are not prejudice
and are evident no matter where you are. Researching this paper has helped me see the passion that
Bresee had and how I can get out of my comfort zone even more and allow God to work in different

Phineas Bresee made this his passion setting up churches in poverty ridden urban areas of Los
Angeles. As I was mediating over this thought I was led to the scriptures to dig in and revisit some
familiar scriptures and look at them in a new light. Scriptures such as Luke 4:18 and Matthew 11:5
where Jesus says the poor will have the good news preached to them. I have gotten a firsthand look at
what this means being at my current church because we are in a pretty significantly poor
neighborhood. We have outreaches for the community such as a food pantry, feeding the homeless,
and various apartment outreaches and I can honestly say that this is all pretty new to me and I am

about if I am doing enough or if my mindset may be off a little. I look at it and see how many lives we
get to bless by giving them food, but they need to hear the word of God more. We do have tracts

Just like the generation taught to complete math problems with calculators instead of using their head
or ABACUS like their parents. Schools are the biggest potential buyers because they are using the
Internet to move into the new technological world. Younger children, even at the kindergarten level
are learning on computers, so to maintain the attention of the students schools are potential buyers
who will buy in bulk. If schools buy in bulk to use for their staff and students, the students will go
home and ask to buy a personal tablet for the home, instead of a computer. Many school districts are
trying to go wireless with their schools they want the mobility that tablets will allow a computer lab to
be more accessible to their students.
One issue Chatter Box believes could affect the competiveness of our tablet compared to the tablet
produced by Apple is the loyal fan base that the company has for their products. Apple has a loyal
backing therefore, their fans pay a high price for the tablet. We believe there could be some
opportunity to take advantage of Apples higher prices, and this will help us sell more tablets.
The demand for tablets and their uses for online shopping are increasing fast. Tablet users tend to
spend more money when they shop online from their tablet. Data came out in early 2012 that stated
that tablet shoppers spend 50% more than

Levinson Mid-Life
Fist coming into Human Development class my understanding of a mid life crisis, was when a middle
aged person splurges and buys a new sports car, or such like outrageous items. Or when a husband and
wife split up for a year and they do not even really know why. Maybe even when someone seems not
quite themselves or just crazy, and in the back of your mind you re saying they need to see a doctor or
take their medicine as prescribed. In our text and from other sources it explains mid life crisis in
several theories but the one that I mostly agree with is Levinson s. (CITE) Levinson says, That each
person must confront a constellation of difficult tasks at mid life: accepting one s own morality,
recognizing new physical limitations and health

Oppression Of Gender Roles In Wonder Woman By Christian Stoic
Like I previously mentioned, the genre of action and adventure is so diverse, and there are so many
heroines and female characters, it is hard to argue that women in action roles strictly have a negative
impact on female viewers. Also, it would be completely inappropriate to argue that women in lead
action roles have no positive impacts on female viewers. As society continues to advance, female
heroines are also evolving and moving further away from the traditionally hypersexualized characters.
Instead, these heroines are easier for women to identify with, they are extremely strong and
independent female leads, and they are dressed more practically/appropriately. A few examples of
these new age action heroines include Jessica Jones, Alicia ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I believe that there is still a lot of work that needs to be done when it comes to female heroines, and I
hope that in time (sooner rather than later) these women heroines will serve strictly to empower and
inspire women of all ages. One reason that these heroines are sexualized and dumbed down more
often than not might be due to the lack of equality in terms of male and female directors. In an article
written by Yohana Desta, it states that There are about 23.8 male directors for every female director
(Desta 2017), and also that Women were more likely to direct dramas, and less likely to direct science
fiction or action films which are, imperatively, often the most successful and lucrative genres in the
business (Desta 2017). Since these lead female roles are written and created mainly by men and not
women, they are more aimed at a male audience. This is most likely why these women s bodies are
focused on more than making these characters into well rounded heroines that could serve to inspire
women. I believe that in order to transition from these heroines negatively impacting females, to these
heroines serving to empower women, there first needs to be an increase in the number of female
directors in Hollywood. I also feel that male directors should use women such as Jessica Jones or the

The Rational Irrationality Complex
According to John Cassidy, markets fail due, not because of greed but rather to the fact that they act
irrationally. Their irrational decisions and results can be, in part, hindered and corrected by
government intervention. That markets fail mostly due to irrationality rather than to greed can be seen
from the scenario of the retail bookstores, particularly Borders, vs. that of e book publishing. It
appears that e book publishing may have a future (PWC, nd), but many book stores are slow to
acknowledge and appreciate that fact. Borders was one of those companies who failed to foresee the
future and acknowledge the fact. More so, they made the astounding error of employing one of their
key competitors to conduct some of their business. According to Cassidy, cognitive heuristics lead
people to be over optimistic about their future and opportunity, therefore making them unaware of
certain trends that should bother them. It is their smugness and obtuseness that causes them eventually
to fail. Some of the retail bookstores fail to appreciate the significant thereat threat that digital book
publishing continues to pose. At one time, it is true, e book publishing barley made its niche. This was
particularly so in Europe. But Amazon Kindle and similar tools have made it more acceptable and
popular and studies such s those by PWC (nd) predict incremental but sure growth of the digital book
publishing future. Hermans, for instance, plans to make e books part of her

Ordinary People Conflict
In the movie Ordinary People, the Jarrett family is faced with traumatic events that provoke situations
of crucial communication. The family members, Conrad (son), Beth (mother), and Calvin (father),
have to deal with the loss of their beloved older son and brother. The loss of Buck hit Conrad,
especially hard, resting displaced guilt on his shoulders. Conrad buckles under the guilt and pain,
allowing him to draw in the dark emotions that fill his heart and mind attempting to end his life and
end the agony. The opening of the movie is set in the time following Conrad s release from the
hospital when he returns to a quiet home with little love and compassion released from his mother s
heart. He returned to a place of more pain. Beth, the mother, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

not express the need or the want to attempt to feel her demanding emotions. On the surface for Beth,
everything was okay and that is exactly what she told everyone. She refused to feel her emotions. She
often acted in violent manners that revolved away from the true conflicts in front of her. For example,
she seemed to refuse to internally accept the mental condition that her son was living and fighting
internally in. When she found out about Conrad quit the swim team, her first thought was the
embarrassment she expressed due to the ignorance her face showed to her friend when hearing the
unexpected news. Revenge was the thought that popped into her mind to fill the void the followed the
question as to why her son would have done such a thing. She acted in means of attacking. Rather than
attacking, a healthy way of dealing with the situation would have been to avoid assumption all
together, and express her emotions outwardly in order to have the ability to listen to her son and what
his true intentions were. Listening before reacting would have saved the family from an attack not
only in this situation, but also in many

The Grail Quest in the Play At the Hawk´S Well by W.B.Yeats
1 The Grail Quest in the Play At the Hawk s Well by William Butler Yeats A search for that which
gives meaning to life has always occupied human minds. The ancient scholars, philosophers, writers
and intellectuals devoted many years of their lives to find the answer. They created various theories
religious and philosophical to explain the system of the universe and find the source of all things. On
example of William Butler Yeats play At the Hawk s Well and Chretien s romance Le Conte du Graal I
shall show the way the both authors concern this subject. First, I shall give the historical background
of the play and explain the symbolic importance of Cuchulain for Yeats. Second, I shall find and
interpret the Celtic symbols in the play, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
John Rhys advanced the theory that Gawain and Cuchulain is one character. He bases the theory on
similarity between their careers and on the fact that both possessed a specific quality their strength
waxed and waned with the rising and setting of the son (Matthews 29). John Matthews explains this
theory in detail in his book Sir Gawain: Knight of the Goddess. Loomis states that the Irish traditions
have reached the French through Wales and has no doubt that the Grail legend is a Celtic heritage
(Loomis Arthurian Tradition 341). The central symbol in the romance is the Grail. William Nitze and
Roger Loomis maintain the Celtic usage of the word, meaning dish or platter, which has the attribute
that whatever food was wished thereon was instantly obtained (Nitze 322). I assume the symbolic
reading of the symbol and come back to Yeats essay who saw it as a source of fertility and abundance
(Skene 126). The parallel appears clear. Both symbols have one semantic meaning in common, that is
of vessel. And both may be generally seen as vessels of energy. „There is no reason to be concerned
with the Grail as a physical object. It is simply not possible to know what it stands for precisely ,
writes Frederik Locke (9). He describes the Grail as „being multivalent, open on all sides to the power
of evocation (9). Locke holds a bold view: „In the

fire arms legal. This is what is Amendment II said: A well regulated militia, being necessary to the
security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. But it
makes this country dangerous.
First, there are too many guns in The America, the number of guns is more than US s population, it
means for average every person own a gun, include kids and old people! From October 5, 2015 s The
Washington Post, in 2013 there are 357million guns in the America and only 317million people. Just

In all, the study looked at 160 shootings since 2000. When a person want to revenge the society for
some reason or just want to kill some people before he ends his life, has a gun can make a worse
result. Almost at the same date of Sandy Hook, their is another case happened in China. A man who
suffered unfair treatment by goverment tring to attact a kindergarten, All weapons he has, is a knife.
What result he caused ? Only a teacher get hurted, nobody dead! Why there is a big difference
between these two events? Weapons. American have better way to avoid kill and wound when bad
thing happened but chinese not because it s not that often happened to us but I have never heard that a
Criminal can kill that much people in school. I believe that if the Chinese criminal has the same
weapon as the criminal of Sandy Hook, everything will be changed. This is what guns can change, not
only the result. If the criminal don t have gun, maybe he will not to do that because he almost can t kill
anyone and will get arrest.
Not only citizens are getting killed, let s counting how many president of The America get killed by
assassin. Abraham Lincoln, April 14, 1865, Ford s theatre; James Garfield, July 2 1881, Baltimore and

My Experience At Wenatchee Valley College
Bridgeport, Washington the exact place I like to call home, remains the basis of reasoning for my
goals and aspirations that I envision myself having a bright future for the years to come. This specific
town holds the roots of my commencement to my academic history and achievement which has also
allowed me to develop specific interests for a career path of choice. Most of all, this town has been the
reason for a better understanding of not only a certain culture, but particularly my own, and showed
how the empowerment of a culture in a small town can be so successful.
After a very short four years of high school where my college studies had also began, I find myself
today attending Wenatchee Valley College. Here in Wenatchee I m continuing my college career to
obtain my associates in arts and science degree in which will receive in the spring of 2016. Prior to
choosing courses at WVC, I kept in mind the pre med major I have planned to take up, and in result I
have taken up a biology sequence; major cells, major plants, and the final series, which I plan to take
in the spring, major animals. The remainder of my classes consisted course within the humanities,
social sciences and the math departments. Between all the late hours I found myself staying up to
study and managing a full time job, I would consider my performance a well rounded decent one. As
expectations for prominent academic achievement were imbedded in me from my family and school
faculty in high school,

Mildred Pierce Themes
Personally, Veda s convinced me that alligators have the right idea. They eat their young, Mildred s
friend, Ida, echoes what is seemingly the general consensus upon viewing the film Mildred Pierce
(1945). In James M. Cain s 1945 hardboiled crime novel of the same name, we re taken on a
whirlwind ride as Mildred separates from her husband, goes into the restaurant business, and tries to
give her daughter, Veda, everything she desires. In the film adaptation, we re also taken on a
whirlwind ride, but this time in the form of a murder mystery. Hollywood can t be blamed for twisting
the story into the classic film noir that audiences craved, but there s no denying the vastly different
stories within the pages and on the screen. Michael Curtiz s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Greed, family bonds, and independence are also key players in the story as Mildred fights to please
Veda and wait upon her every whim. The novel s narrative configuration lends itself more to
enhancing the betrayal aspect of the story, Mildred finding Veda and Monte in bed, Veda attributing
the fake loss of her singing voice to Mildred nearly strangling her, or Veda leaving Mildred with the
truth of her reconciliation simply being a ploy. However, the film is much more suited for conveying
the theme of greed. Interestingly enough, the Motion Picture Production Code was too strict at the
time to allow a strict adaptation of the novel s events. Thus, the murder mystery was created to send
Veda to jail for breaking the law and the sexual betrayal was toned down, therefore guiding the
filmmakers to exploit the greedy, obsessive aspects of Veda in the case of the film to allow the
audience to develop their hatred towards her. The viewer could understand Mildred s desire to please
her daughter, and her immense love for her, so the film s use of flashbacks makes the viewer wonder
whether Mildred is truly describing how awful Veda was to her over the course of the story. The
omniscient nature of the Cain novel reveals Veda s flaws as they occurred, but Mildred could easily be
applying a filter to make her daughter seem better than she is or, perhaps, worse. The film s
configuration is also wonderful at trying to make the viewer consider the dangers of the greed,
independence, and betrayal occurring on screen, as they know what is coming for Monte they just not
entirely sure

  • 2. Robert Heinlein Research Paper Robert Heinlein was born on 7 July 1907, in Butler, Missouri, the third son of Rex Ivar Heinlein and Bam Lyle Heinlein. He read all the science fiction he could lay hands on from the age of 16. He attended classes at U.C.L.A. for only several weeks, and then left college to take up a career in politics. After a long grueling trip around the politics department he retired. He soon found, that he could not stay retired. He had somehow acquired a permanent itch for writing and allowed himself to be talked back into it. Over a four day period in April 1939, Heinlein wrote the story Life Line. It was, by the standards of a later day, somewhat stiff, but Heinlein recognized that it was head and shoulders above the usual offerings of Thrilling Wonder ... Heinlein applied for active duty, but was rejected for medical reasons tuberculosis scars on his lungs and myopia (nearsightedness) beyond the limits allowed even for the staff corps. But a buddy in the navy, Albert Scoles, was in charge of the Materials Laboratory at the Naval Air Experimental Station at Mustin Field, near Philadelphia, and he wanted to take on Heinlein as a civilian engineer. He and wife Leslyn found a house in Lansdowne, a suburb of Philadelphia, and Heinlein went to work on what he described as the necessary tedium of aviation engineering. Although he was trained as a mechanical engineer specializing in linkages, his experience with aircraft on the U.S.S. Lexington targeted him toward the Navy s aircraft program. One of the more interesting aspects of his work was two letters written in the closing weeks of the war, formally urging the Navy to take up space exploration. One was killed at the Materials Laboratory. The other went up the naval hierarchy, finally reaching the level of Truman s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Criminal Justice Case Summary Introduction Christopher Byers, Michael Moore, and Steven Branch were second graders in Weaver Elementary School (Egan, 2016). On May 5, 1993, they went missing after going on a bike ride in West Memphis, Arkansas (Leveritt, 2002). On the next day, their bruised and mutilated hog tied naked bodies were found in Robin Hood Hills near Interstate 40, setting off an all out effort to find their murderers (Linder, 2013). Within a month, police was convinced that three outcast teenagers were responsible (Linder, 2013). With pressure on their backs to find the culprits, authorities arrested them. They were known around town for wearing black and listening to heavy metal (Egan, 2016). At that time, investigators felt that 18 year old Damien Echols, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Baldwin, who is the youngest among the three, moved to Seattle. He bought his home there within five months (Egan, 2016). He is now married, and helped with the Dark Spell: Surviving the Sentence (2014) book, written by Leveritt, by providing a first hand account of what it was like to be shackled and thrown into prison at the age of 16 (Egan, 2016). He was also the executive producer of the Devil s Knot (film), based off the book (Egan, 2016). He created a Kickstarter campaign, raising $30,000 for a memoir he plans to release (Egan, 2016). In one of his last interviews, he stated his desire to attend law school and utilize his experiences to help wrongfully convicted individuals (Egan, 2016). Misskelley was the only one among the three to return to West Memphis after release (Egan, 2016). Since then, he had stayed out of spotlight (Egan, 2016). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. With The Old Breed Essay With the Old Breed by E.B. Sledge, is a memoir that tells the story of training and two battles fought on Peleliu and Okinawa during his time served in WWII in the K Company, 5th Marine regiment, 1st Marine Division. This memoir serves as a primary source that truly displays the horrors, conditions, and attitude that were felt by the soldiers that fought in the Pacific. This memoir examines the hardships that were felt by the Marines. As I got further into the book, I saw the changes in his character, integrity, and morality. I believe that the chapter titles surely represent the characteristics and feelings involved in the book. Making a Marine, Assault into Hell, Of Mud and Maggots are just some of chapters that provide the essence and foresight of the book. Making a Marine is a very ambiguous title for a chapter. Making a Marine does not just stand for a man in uniform. Making a Marine describes the blood, sweat, and tears that these brave men go through to serve their country. You people are recruits. You re not Marines. You may not have what it takes to be Marines. (Pg. 8) Sledge did have what it takes to be a Marine, a Marine that would fight through Peleliu and ... The constant bombardment and explosions from the mortars, grenades, and other weapons were absurdly rattling and loud that soldiers could only hear each other by yelling. Sledge suggests that that waiting is a major part of war , but in hell waiting is something that is not easily accomplished. I broke out in a cold sweat as the tension mounted with the intensity of the bombardment. (Pg. 55) Sledge was amazed at how his dead Japanese soldiers were looted from glasses to their gun. These are just some of the descriptive lines that show the agony of war. Assault Into Hell adds meaning and grit to the terror Sledge had to go through while on the islands of ... • 5. Studying the Energy Industry in University I am interested in the scientific, economical and business aspects of the energy industry, as they not only have a big impact on our daily lives, but our future. I know that I would like to be part of this important and growing enterprise in a way that connects science and business. I would l be happy to study either at University, while developing my skills of the other simultaneously. Geology is a science that fascinates me as am hugely interested in how and why Earth was formed the way it was, and the factors involved, from the beginning to the present day. As oil and gas supplies run out, renewable energy that can provide large amounts of power is becoming sought after, and geology is a field that contributes hugely to the energy sector and is certainly needed for renewable energy as well as fossil fuels. Another reason I love geology is the fact that there are so many different types: glaciology, hydrology, meteorology etc., all of which I am keen to learn about, particularly geochemistry as it studies at a molecular level. Likewise, the biology involved also fascinates me, as it includes learning about how geological change affects life on earth. However, without business management, the energy industry would not be able to operate and make the money needed for funding valuable research that could help solve our future problems. I feel that having good business skills gives you the ability to think strategically and make the best decisions. I enjoyed Higher ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Operation Eagle Claw On 24 April 1980 s United States Special Operation forces , along with Joint Task Force 1 79 , led an operation to save 52 American hostages trapped inside Tehran,Iran known as Operation Eagle Claw. .The Operation was broken up into two phases. The first phase was to take place in Iran at a site called Desert One. Desert One was an Airstrip for USAF special operations to use to land aircraft such as the MC130, AC130H, and the RH53D. The MC130 was a fixed wing aircraft meant to transport ground forces, the C130H was a gunship for security, and the RH53D was a mine sweeper and transported ground forces. The RH53D was flown by United States Marine Corps aviators from the carrier USS Nimitz. The plan was that these aircraft would fly under radar to Desert One, the men would offload at the site, The Helicopters would refuel and be concealed at Desert Two. The next night the American Forces would then extract the hostages, get to a soccer stadium where they would be picked up by RH53D mine sweeping helicopters. In the early 1960 s, their popularity grew rather rapidly. They continued gaining popularity well through the 1960 s. Although their popularity has decreased somewhat over time, the influences they have contributed during their career have remained apparent even today. The Beatles originated from the UK in the early 1960 s. Before becoming known as the Fab Four the Beatles had multiple band member alterations. The people of the 1960 s needed something new, fresh, and uplifting. The Beatles fit that description perfectly. The day they arrived in America the social phenomenon known as Beatlemania began. Many say that to describe Beatlemania with words is impossible. It was a feeling more than anything. It was a mass hysteria and deluge of emotions that had significant and extensive effects on society. These effects shaped life, as we know it today. The Beatles were highly talented musicians who had a very unique sound. Many of their albums ran with different feelings and concepts. They offered variety, which people always enjoy. The Beatles music was rooted in American rock and roll but also included some rhythm and blues. With the introduction of this new sound, they redefined the parameters of rock and roll. • 8. How Washington s Role And Legacy Has Been Manipulated By... Kush Patel Word Count: Edward G. Lengel, author of Inventing George Washington, brings a different approach to writing historical books. He has collected and sifted through virtually all mediums of Washington s life. Through his work I found a central theme of how Washington s role and legacy has been manipulated by society. Lengel displays the way writers, critics, and religious leaders changed George Washington s identity for their own personal benefits; they have altered his religious orientation and his public image in both good and bad ways. George Washington s religious beliefs have always been altered or unclear to the American society. Lengel ponders, Washington considered attendance at religious services to be a civic duty. He believed that morality and the unfettered practice of religion ensured the prosperity of a well organized society (77). Washington was only partially religious to please the common people. He was selfless in doing what was in the best interest of his nation than himself. By taking the role of president, he had to sacrifice his own beliefs. The Valley Forge prayer incident was commonly disfigured by many. The story began when a Quaker, by the name of Isaac Potts, saw Washington in prayer, according to Mason Locke Weems. After the initial story, others began twisting it to their liking by adding horses or barns. As Lengel states, The image of Washington in prayer became iconic (86). Production involves machining, assembly and painting. Finished units are then packed and shipped. The financial controller is interested to introduce an activity based costing (ABC) system to allocate (or distribute) indirect costs to products. Indirect costs, as distinct from direct costs, cannot be unambiguously linked to specific products. The controller would like to calculate product costs based on ABC for planning and control, not inventory valuation. Under an ABC system, the allocation of costs to products is achieved through at least four analytical steps. Firstly, costs are grouped into activity levels. Secondly, cost drivers are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cost Drivers by Activity Level by Division Cost drivers can be identified for each activity or cost category based on observation, discussions with management, simulations and statistical studies. The key is to determine the behavior of indirect costs with respect to activity or resource usage in each activity center (Leslie, 2009). These efforts have identified the eight cost drivers shown in Table 3. Direct labor assembly costs are, by their nature, directly traceable to individual products. Therefore the relevant cost driver for this cost is the number of Direct Assembly Labor Hours. The other 21 cost categories are indirect costs. At the unit activity level, electricity assembly costs are likely to vary with Direct Labor Hours, Assembly. Similarly, the three machining costs grouped at the unit activity level are likely to vary with by the number of Direct Labor Hours, Machining. Secondly, at the batch activity level, paint cost is likely to vary mainly with the Number of Batches Processed. Painting activity is the only batch activity at Glaser. Thirdly, at the product activity level, the two Operations costs are likely to vary mainly with the Number of Units Produced and the three Sales costs are also likely to vary mainly with the Number of Units Produced. In Halo, players fight multiple alien races as the legendary Spartan II, a genetically enhanced super soldier, named John S117. Recently, the creators of Halo released a new game called Destiny; in the game, guardians fight off multiple alien races in an attempt to destroy an ancient evil known as the Darkness. When a Halo fan picks up his first weapon in Destiny, whether it be a scout rifle or an auto rifle, he should instantly be able to acknowledge the similarity in mechanics. In Halo the weapon mechanics are simple, a player can pick up anything that he can find. • 19. The s Nationalization Of The Suez Canal Colonial power ruled Egypt for almost a hundred years, exploiting and extracting as much wealth from Egypt as possible. After this long period of subjection to outside rule, Gamal Abdel Nasser became president of Egypt in 1956. He was the first Egyptian who was a ruler of the people. Egyptians, Arab nationalists, and many other world leaders loved Nasser and his leadership. His swift, bloodless takeover and rise to president in conjunction with his smooth, calm speeches gained him popularity. What truly made him infamous was his nationalization of the Suez Canal Company that ended British influence in Egypt. Decades after his death, Nasser is still believed to be greater than that of many other political leader since the Prophet Mohamed . However, many of Nasser s actions demand that his rule be reconsidered. Nasser s nationalization of the media, repression of political opponents, institutionalized torture of the Muslim Brotherhood, and failure to successfully implement his national planning all suggest that Nasser s actions contributed to the many economic, political, and military problems Egypt faces today In one of the first events to centralize his power, Nasser nationalized the media in 1960 shortly after becoming the central leader of Egypt in 1954 . Nasser became incredibly popular early in his reign. Arabs and Egyptians rallied in support of his socialist reform proposals and Nasser s efforts to unify all Arabs in the name Arab nationalism. Introduction This term paper is situated in an area of specific health related and environmental concern: the human dimensions of global change. For about a decade now there has been growing scientific interest in the global environmental changes resulting from anthropogenic activity. However most of this research has focused on the scientific bases of environmental transformations with little attention to how human social responses are linked to global change. As a result, scientists and researchers alike are beginning to ask questions about the symbiotic relationship between human well being and physical change. Abstract This research compilation plans to use one environmental health component of the global change phenomena ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In general, the incidence of non melanoma and malignant melanoma skin cancer has increased significantly over the past few decades, particularly in the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, and Scandinavian countries. This large outbreak has intrigued researchers into examining the relationship of the growing risk of skin cancer to increases in ground level UV B radiation due to ozone depletion. According to the latest Scientific Assessment of Ozone Depletion issued by the United Nations and the US Government, human influenced ozone depletion may peak around 1998 and will persist well into the 21st century. For the US and other mid latitude countries of the Northern Hemisphere, ozone losses during summer and fall months may peak at 6 7% relative to ozone concentrations in the 1960s. Winter/spring depletion could peak at nearly twice those levels. Vienna Convention and Skin Cancer Incidence The 1985 Vienna Convention built a baseline for international restrictions on the production of ozone depleting substances. To evaluate the consequences of these restrictions the convention and its associates projected skin cancer incidence under three scenarios: 1) no restrictions (the Business as Usual curve); (2) reduced production of five ozone depleting chemicals by 50 percent by 1999 (under the Montreal ... It was set in a traditional proscenium arch theatre which is situated on an enclosed street which applies to the horror genre and the idea of isolation. The size of the theatre was alarmingly small with compact seating, creating a sense of claustrophobia, suffocation and lack of escape from The Woman in Black . The stage seemed diminutive with the curtain, and the minimalistic set with old fashioned props instantly set a Victorian impression. The minimalism conveyed how the actors could present a play without ostentatious props and keep the focus on themselves. The monochromatic colours of the programme enhance ... Most sound effects were specific and recorded, like the city hustle and bustle, the screams and the voices when reading things aloud. However, the one sound that stood out to me was the music box. Being the only live sound we hear, relates to the naturalism of the nursery and how Jennet Humfrye s love for her son is infinite. Music boxes were commonly a gift for a child, or a token of love for a partner in the Victorian times. The idea of love is additionally demonstrated when Kipps is reading a letter alongside Stella. This shows his remembrance of her voice and how much he misses her. The ticking of the clock at the beginning of the play reminds the audience of a countdown, a signal that something is about to happen. This relates to the rhythmic rocking of the chair, similar to a heartbeat, echoing around the house, resembling Nathaniel s pulse. This again adds humanity to the nursery. When Kipps stops the chair from rocking, everything is silent which signifies the death of Nathaniel and how in reality he is gone. Contrasting to the naturalism, there is repetition of the Woman s screams. These created an abstract soundscape that made the audience feel frightened, mimicking the discomforting feeling of the horror genre. The Pony and Trap sounds came ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mainly it is to portray a message, give a good laugh, or explain a purpose, but the author will get their point across to their readers. In Katherine Mansfield s, The Garden Party, she focuses on a young, upperclass girl, with the name of Laura Sheridan. During the story, the Sheridan family is preparing to host a very lively garden party. Unfortunately for the circumstance, there has been a death in their community. The Scott family, who is of the middle class, had just lost their husband and their father. The wake for Mr. Scott just so happens to be during the time of the garden party. The separation of classes causes an unsettling act of sympathy from Laura. She can not decide whether to be on the right side or the wrong side of the situation. For Europe s influence to be successful across the world, they had a guide written by Father Jean de Brébeuf, called Instructions for The Fathers of Our Society Who Shall Be Sent to The Hurons. He wrote in many philosophical areas, including epistemology, ethics, and metaphysics, with some of his most notable works being Theory of Knowledge, Why I m Not a Christian, and In Praise of Idleness. He also worked with mathematics and logic, penning Principia Mathematica and Introduction to Mathematical Philosophy. Russell is widely considered to be an incredibly influential thinker and writer. One of his popular works, The Conquest of Happiness, discusses the unhappiness that many ordinary people suffer from and how to fix it. The first nine chapters detail causes of unhappiness, including pessimism, competition, excitement, and emotional fatigue. Russell displays many scenarios in which these qualities are present and why they cause such unhappiness to begin with. He then spends seven more chapters explaining what causes happiness, including an individual s relationships with their jobs, spouses, and other family. • 30. Sophocles Euripides Antigone In Sophocles Antigone, and in Euripides Medea, the Greek authors take on the topic of justice. Each playwright addresses the issue of injustices suffered by women and the concept of natural law. In both tragedies, the female leads seek justice after natural laws had been broken, but they ultimately break the natural law themselves, resulting in more injustice. During Medea s first long speech (lines 212 271), she declares that women are stricken with the most wretched existence on earth. Within this speech, Euripides draws attention to many of the injustices women underwent in ancient Athens. He refers particularly to their dependence on marriage and their absence of a public life. A man, when he gets fed up with the people at home, can go elsewhere to ease his heart he has friends, companions his own age. We must rely on just one single soul, (lines 247 250). Here Medea point out how all women must rely on their husbands, while their husbands are allowed to go out and a public life with friends. A way that it is shown that women are viewed as wicked is through the portrayal of Medea being a wild woman from a non Greek, land of the barbarian (line 261). Rather than being a Greek citizen, Medea is compared to the other characters in the play, as being more impulsive and primed to do something immoral. She has no real intention of going for a walk with him as she did not intend to go to the races, but does not want to see him go alone to the races and enjoy himself alone, either. This is another example of manipulation; her manipulating him and vice versa, and starts the back and forth farce of both supposedly wanting to spend the day together when they really do not (Clugston, 2010a). When Jeanne decides Henri can go to the races alone because she intends to go see a friend, Henri decides he will stay at home and not go to the races (Clugston, 2010a). This is an obvious representation of the husband not trusting the wife, and even though she has given sanction to him to proceed, he abandons all intentions to leave because of his suspicion of her meeting with her friend and also perhaps meeting another man. The deception between both characters is obvious at this point in the play but not obviously clear as to why. • 37. The Theory Of Knowledge And Power INTRODUCTION Post Foucauldian theory of knowledge and power, knowledge has been used as a synonym for power. In 21st century they are considered as two sides of the same coin. Power gives an individual the ability to make others obey in a social relationship irrespective of the basis. As per Foucault power is not only brutal physical force rather an invisible form of network that operates. At times, the operator has no knowledge of this invisible power which controls others. Similarly, knowledge is defined as a belief of an individual or society which is right and justified with a logical explanation. Thus, the assumption that is not true can t be quantified as a knowledge. Belief that is true doesn t qualify as knowledge. It must be explained in order to be called as knowledge. How the belief is justified has been debated over 2000 years by different scholars, radical writers and philosophers and yet to receive a consensus. The relationship between knowledge and power was established by Michael Foucault in a more explorative way as compared to his previous counterparts. According to him knowledge and power both shares a healthy relationship in a continuous manner. As per Foucault s theory power develops through feed of knowledge and in turn power generates knowledge. This method based upon assumption knowledge changes with time. For example new discourse leads to new knowledge (Ball, 2013). Thus, a society that has gained power through knowledge has the power to direct ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We have outreaches for the community such as a food pantry, feeding the homeless, and various apartment outreaches and I can honestly say that this is all pretty new to me and I am learning from and trusting God though out this ministry that he currently has me in. I am led to think about if I am doing enough or if my mindset may be off a little. I look at it and see how many lives we get to bless by giving them food, but they need to hear the word of God more. We do have tracts available for these families and a standing invitation to church but something I am going to be looking at is how we can have a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Set in the 1840 s, the novel tells the story of Bathsheba Everdene and the three men who feature in her life. Gabriel Oak is the one of the most central figures in the novel. He is an expert shepherd and a farmer and is a man of simple values, who earns an honest living, and is in harmony with nature. His love for Bathsheba is honest, unromantic, and above all, steadfast and patient. Gabriel is unselfish, resourceful, and is able to withstand misfortune in all areas of his life. He is also the counterweight to all the other major characters in the story. Mr Boldwood is a well respected, local gentleman farmer. He has dignity and is depicted ... However, in later chapters she shows herself to be capable, brave and self reliant, struggling against multiplying disasters, which have their origins in her earlier immaturity. Her deficiency in maturity leads her into two disastrous relationships, namely with Mr Boldwood and with Troy. The author makes it clear that Bathsheba s character includes both fine feelings and faults. By the end of the novel she reveals an inner strength by being able to endure Troy and Fanny being buried together, and she recognizes her need for the love of Gabriel, who has remained loyal and steadfast. Bathsheba recieves her first proposal of marriage from Gabriel Oak. Gabriel offers Bathsheba, security, wealth, happiness, social status and most importantly love. I have a nice snug little farm and You shall have a piano now and I ll practice up the flute right well to play with you in the evenings. However, despite all of Gabriel s good qualities, Bathsheba rejects his offer of marriage, because of several reasons. A major factor for Bathsheba rejecting Gabriel is that she does not love him: I don t love you a bit. Bathsheba desires an exciting relationship where she is courted and seduced by the opposing sex. She wants to be in a romantic, passionate and loving relationship, where her partner charms her. Bathsheba feels that Gabriel cannot offer this type of relationship ... Maybe even when someone seems not quite themselves or just crazy, and in the back of your mind you re saying they need to see a doctor or take their medicine as prescribed. In our text and from other sources it explains mid life crisis in several theories but the one that I mostly agree with is Levinson s. • 42. Oppression Of Gender Roles In Wonder Woman By Christian Stoic Like I previously mentioned, the genre of action and adventure is so diverse, and there are so many heroines and female characters, it is hard to argue that women in action roles strictly have a negative impact on female viewers. Also, it would be completely inappropriate to argue that women in lead action roles have no positive impacts on female viewers. As society continues to advance, female heroines are also evolving and moving further away from the traditionally hypersexualized characters. Instead, these heroines are easier for women to identify with, they are extremely strong and independent female leads, and they are dressed more practically/appropriately. A few examples of these new age action heroines include Jessica Jones, Alicia ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe that there is still a lot of work that needs to be done when it comes to female heroines, and I hope that in time (sooner rather than later) these women heroines will serve strictly to empower and inspire women of all ages. One reason that these heroines are sexualized and dumbed down more often than not might be due to the lack of equality in terms of male and female directors. In an article written by Yohana Desta, it states that There are about 23.8 male directors for every female director (Desta 2017), and also that Women were more likely to direct dramas, and less likely to direct science fiction or action films which are, imperatively, often the most successful and lucrative genres in the business (Desta 2017). Since these lead female roles are written and created mainly by men and not women, they are more aimed at a male audience. This is most likely why these women s bodies are focused on more than making these characters into well rounded heroines that could serve to inspire women. I believe that in order to transition from these heroines negatively impacting females, to these heroines serving to empower women, there first needs to be an increase in the number of female directors in Hollywood. I also feel that male directors should use women such as Jessica Jones or the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. The Rational Irrationality Complex According to John Cassidy, markets fail due, not because of greed but rather to the fact that they act irrationally. Their irrational decisions and results can be, in part, hindered and corrected by government intervention. That markets fail mostly due to irrationality rather than to greed can be seen from the scenario of the retail bookstores, particularly Borders, vs. that of e book publishing. It appears that e book publishing may have a future (PWC, nd), but many book stores are slow to acknowledge and appreciate that fact. Borders was one of those companies who failed to foresee the future and acknowledge the fact. More so, they made the astounding error of employing one of their key competitors to conduct some of their business. According to Cassidy, cognitive heuristics lead people to be over optimistic about their future and opportunity, therefore making them unaware of certain trends that should bother them. It is their smugness and obtuseness that causes them eventually to fail. Some of the retail bookstores fail to appreciate the significant thereat threat that digital book publishing continues to pose. At one time, it is true, e book publishing barley made its niche. This was particularly so in Europe. But Amazon Kindle and similar tools have made it more acceptable and popular and studies such s those by PWC (nd) predict incremental but sure growth of the digital book publishing future. Hermans, for instance, plans to make e books part of her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Grail Quest in the Play At the Hawk´S Well by W.B.Yeats 1 The Grail Quest in the Play At the Hawk s Well by William Butler Yeats A search for that which gives meaning to life has always occupied human minds. The ancient scholars, philosophers, writers and intellectuals devoted many years of their lives to find the answer. They created various theories religious and philosophical to explain the system of the universe and find the source of all things. On example of William Butler Yeats play At the Hawk s Well and Chretien s romance Le Conte du Graal I shall show the way the both authors concern this subject. First, I shall give the historical background of the play and explain the symbolic importance of Cuchulain for Yeats. Second, I shall find and interpret the Celtic symbols in the play, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... John Rhys advanced the theory that Gawain and Cuchulain is one character. He bases the theory on similarity between their careers and on the fact that both possessed a specific quality their strength waxed and waned with the rising and setting of the son (Matthews 29). John Matthews explains this theory in detail in his book Sir Gawain: Knight of the Goddess. Loomis states that the Irish traditions have reached the French through Wales and has no doubt that the Grail legend is a Celtic heritage (Loomis Arthurian Tradition 341). The central symbol in the romance is the Grail. William Nitze and Roger Loomis maintain the Celtic usage of the word, meaning dish or platter, which has the attribute that whatever food was wished thereon was instantly obtained (Nitze 322). I assume the symbolic reading of the symbol and come back to Yeats essay who saw it as a source of fertility and abundance (Skene 126). The parallel appears clear. Both symbols have one semantic meaning in common, that is of vessel. And both may be generally seen as vessels of energy. „There is no reason to be concerned with the Grail as a physical object. It is simply not possible to know what it stands for precisely , writes Frederik Locke (9). He describes the Grail as „being multivalent, open on all sides to the power of evocation (9). • 48. Mildred Pierce Themes Personally, Veda s convinced me that alligators have the right idea. They eat their young, Mildred s friend, Ida, echoes what is seemingly the general consensus upon viewing the film Mildred Pierce (1945). In James M. Cain s 1945 hardboiled crime novel of the same name, we re taken on a whirlwind ride as Mildred separates from her husband, goes into the restaurant business, and tries to give her daughter, Veda, everything she desires. In the film adaptation, we re also taken on a whirlwind ride, but this time in the form of a murder mystery. Hollywood can t be blamed for twisting the story into the classic film noir that audiences craved, but there s no denying the vastly different stories within the pages and on the screen. Michael Curtiz s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Greed, family bonds, and independence are also key players in the story as Mildred fights to please Veda and wait upon her every whim. The novel s narrative configuration lends itself more to enhancing the betrayal aspect of the story, Mildred finding Veda and Monte in bed, Veda attributing the fake loss of her singing voice to Mildred nearly strangling her, or Veda leaving Mildred with the truth of her reconciliation simply being a ploy. However, the film is much more suited for conveying the theme of greed. Interestingly enough, the Motion Picture Production Code was too strict at the time to allow a strict adaptation of the novel s events. Thus, the murder mystery was created to send Veda to jail for breaking the law and the sexual betrayal was toned down, therefore guiding the filmmakers to exploit the greedy, obsessive aspects of Veda in the case of the film to allow the audience to develop their hatred towards her. The viewer could understand Mildred s desire to please her daughter, and her immense love for her, so the film s use of flashbacks makes the viewer wonder whether Mildred is truly describing how awful Veda was to her over the course of the story. The omniscient nature of the Cain novel reveals Veda s flaws as they occurred, but Mildred could easily be applying a filter to make her daughter seem better than she is or, perhaps, worse. The film s configuration is also wonderful at trying to make the viewer consider the dangers of the greed, independence, and betrayal occurring on screen, as they know what is coming for Monte they just not entirely sure ...
