Emily Dickinson s Success Is Counted Sweetest Criticism
Jirawoot Sararit (B.A. English Linguistics) 1st Class Honors, SWU, Thailand
Success Is Counted Sweetest Success Is Counted Sweetest is a well known poem written by Emily
Dickinson in 1859. It is obviously seen that the message of the poem is that people who do not
succeed are those who truly understand success for what it is (Cummings, 2013). In other words,
deprivation can lead to greater understanding and appreciation of what people lack. This paper is
composed of three points including how the unity of the paradoxical idea of the poem is presented,
how the poem can be viewed historically and biographically in feminist aspects, and how the central
idea of the poem is responded.
The Unity of the Paradoxical Idea in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To begin with, the use of the word nectar‟ along with the word sweet‟ in the first stanza implies
femininity. It can be assumed that there is a message from a woman‟s point of view. According to
history and her biography, Emily Dickinson had modernist ideas that women should have as equal
rights as men which they did not have at that time. In fact, women, especially wives, were treated as
the slaves of men in the eyes of the law even though women can do several duties that men cannot.
Therefore, women started to work and to express their voice. (Leiter, 2007). This background
knowledge can be understood to explain when success „to comprehend a nectar‟ changes to „victory‟
in the last two stanzas. The image of a battle which causes physical and mental pain to the defeated
soldiers (men) is mentioned as „agonized.‟ It is clear that even though men are strong, they still have
weaknesses as shown in the image of losing the battle. It is showed that both genders have
weaknesses. Therefore, both of them should be equal. This feminist idea is considered to be a
dominant one during Emily‟s lifetime.
The Response to the Central Idea of the Poem After reading the first stanza, the central idea of the
poem seems absolutely right to me. The whole poem captivates my attention to realize the value of
what I am deprived. It can be

Lake Tahoe History
The athlete locks in his bindings on his Burton snowboard, adjusts his goggles, and peers down the
mountain. He stares at the snow covered trees, powdered slopes, and sapphire blue alpine lake in the
distance. The young man remembers his skiing adventures through the trees as a small boy, rises to his
feet, takes a deep breath and smiles. The crisp mountain air and the smell of pine trees fill his lungs as
he glides down the blanket of snow on the groomed slopes of the mountain resort. The enjoyment of
the sport of skiing and snowboarding, and the many other wonders of the Tahoe basin have been
passed on to him from his family, and is like no other feeling in the world. Lake Tahoe is such a

The Lake Tahoe basin is divided by the scenic and beautiful border of California and Nevada. The
gorgeous lake is, ...admired for its great depth and clarity and beautiful alpine surroundings
(tahoe.usgs.gov). The mountain ranges around the perimeter of the basin were formed 24 million years
ago by the rise and fall of the earth s crust due to the movement of faults. The Carson Range to the
east was created by tilt block faulting and resulted in a very steep mountain range
(tahoeadventuresports.com). Another fault created the Sierra Nevada range to the west, but is more of
a gentle change in elevation. As the fault blocks were thrown up, the high peaks of the mountain
ranges were created and as other fault blocks were thrown down, a valley was created. Some of the
peaks of the ranges can reach over 10,000 feet above sea level, making an exaggerated difference
between the lake and the ranges. Movement of other faults in the area caused the valley to sink
thousands of feet below the mountains on the east and west. Volcanic activity from Mt. Pluto on the
north shore resulted in lava flowing and blocking the outlet of the newly developing valley. About 3
million years ago the ice age created glaciers in the Sierra Nevada. As they moved and scoured the
land, lakes were created behind them as piles of granite rock were left to block the outflow of water
from melted snow and rainfall. Lake Tahoe, Fallen Leaf Lake, Cascade Lakes, and Donner Lake were
formed by this process. Lake Tahoe as we know it today is the third deepest lake in North America and
tenth deepest lake in the world, with the deepest part measuring 1645 feet. Not only are Tahoe s
geologic origins intriguing, but so is the history of the people inhabiting the

The Liberal Arts Program Catches Your Attention
You arrive on campus for a tour, hear the beautiful music of the band, see some of the most amazing
pieces of art and get to sit in the classes of current students. Falling in love with the literature,
philosophy and other courses offered by the university. In general the Liberal Arts program catches
your attention. This program becomes a deciding factor in narrowing down your options and finally
making the decision of what college you are going to attend. But before you can; you find out this is
the last year they will be open because of the lack of funds. This is a common devastation for many
Universities because due to lack of funds they either shut down the program or prohibited the program
growth.
Perfect examples are Sweet Briar College, and Tennessee Temple University. Sweet Briar College a
private all women s Liberal Arts college in Virginia due to insurmountable financial challenges was
shut down.Tennessee Temple University a Christian Liberal Arts College was to shut down and merge
with Piedmont International University another private Christian College 300 miles away in North
Carolina . Could you imagine what is going through the head of these colleges students right now?
They are losing their second home, families and some maybe losing their chance at an education. Now
imagine the impact of the future generation, these two colleges could save lives of many and even turn
arounds lives of others. The issue here is that many feel as if there is no need for a

Dna Testing And The Second Amendment
DNAAS EVIDENCE
DNA testing was first used in criminal prosecutions in 1985 and is now admissible in all states. (Hails,
184) Scientific and legal communities seem to universally accept the use of DNA as good evidence.
Questions could arise regarding testing procedures. There are several testing methods that have been
proven reliable and easily pass general acceptance and scientific validity tests. This is causes number
of Daubert cases questioning DNA to decline. In most cases, the tests that are used are well
established and do not require a separate hearing (Hails, 160) Once it is established the testing method
used passes the Daubert test, the court must determine admissibility based on the Fourth Amendment.
The Fourth Amendment is the right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and
effects, against unreasonable search and seizures, shall not be violated and no Warrants shall issue, but
upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be
searched, and the persons or things to be seized (US Const.) In United States v Davis, Earl Davis was
shot and while being treated for his gunshot wound, the Howard County Police Department (HCPD)
in Maryland collected his clothing and logged it along with records of Davis s arrest. The next year the
nearby Prince George s County Police Department (PGCPD) suspected Davis of a murder and
obtained the clothes that HCPD had previously collected. PGCPD then

Alaska Airlines Case Analysis
Alaska Air Group, Inc. (ALK) operates as a holding company, which through its businesses, Alaska
Airlines, Horizon Air, and Virgin America, encompasses commercial aviation services. The company
was founded in 1985 with Alaska Airlines and acquired Horizon Air and Jet America Airlines in 1986.
Jet America Airlines was merged into Alaska Airlines in 1987. In December 2016, Alaska Air Group
acquired Virgin America for approximately $2.6 billion. However, until 2019, Alaska Air Group will
operate Virgin America and Alaska Airlines separately. Alaska Air Group is headquartered in Seattle,
Washington, United States.
Alaska Airlines History For over 75 years, Alaska Airlines has been guided by honesty, compassion,
originality, proficiency, and a distinctive spirit. Alaska Airlines started in 1932 as McGee Airways by
Linious Mac McGee. He painted McGee Airways on a three passenger Stinson and began flying out of
Anchorage, Alaska. In 1934, McGee combined with Star Air Service, with 22 aircraft, they became
the largest airline in Alaska. In 1937, business expanded again with the acquiring of Alaska Interior
Airlines. Later that year, McGee sold Star to one of his former pilots, Don Goodman, who renamed
the company Star Air Lines. In 1938, the Civil Aeronautics Authority (CAA) was created to regulate
airlines. In 1944, Star Air Lines changed its name to Alaska Airlines. The company grew despite a

Virtue Ethics And Prostitution In The United States
Pornography is a sin that has catastrophic in its effect on the state of men and women in the United
States. In 2016 alone, more than 4,599,000,000 hours of porn were consumed on the world s largest
porn site (Lazzaro, 2017). This statistic is shocking, in that, one year only has 8760 hours in it for one
individual. That means that these hours would make up 5,246 centuries of time spent watching
pornography in one year. These numbers are astronomical, and porn continues to create billions of
dollars in revenue with some numbers estimating that in 2016 the porn industry as a whole took in 97
billion dollars worldwide (Fredrickson 2007). But why is pornography bad? Clearly there is a large
market for it that is being met, but why is this a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is defined as A right act is the action a virtuous person would do in the same circumstances
(citation). In other words, what would Jesus, or some other person acting morally, do given a similar
situation. Virtue ethics is much more concerned with the perfection of the individual and working to
get people to act their most moral. Using the normative ethical system specified in your selection,
provide detailed argumentation to support the position ( for or against ) in your selection regarding the
moral issue. While you may want to incorporate empirical data as part of your arguments, do not do so
excessively. Virtue ethics would be staunchly opposed to the problem of pornography. Pornography is
an outgrowth of a very normal human necessity to procreate, but it becomes hijacked and creates an
unhealthy amount of lust in an individual. Also, given the awful conditions and experiences that so
many of the actors suffer when creating the product, its immense evil becomes a clear moral problem.
It is a problem though, that must be dealt with on an individual level, as the statistics show, there is an
immense market for this material, and the only way to really fight this kind of evil, is for the
individual who is currently on porn, to get off of it. Then work to help others get off and stay off in
their community. Otherwise, there is really not going to be one easy way to stop this epidemic in
America. Virtue ethics is also the perfect system to help fight this problem because Virtue ethics sees
the role of moral theory as being concerned with strategies for perfecting human nature and for
helping individuals become well developed human beings (Stewart, Blocker, Petrik 2013). With all of
the problems that where listed, it is clear that the problem with pornography is something that is
creating far more problems for the

Ethical Dilemmas Of Earthquake
There are about 10,000 earthquakes in southern California every year (USDS). I would think that it
would take a tremendous amount of time to track every earthquake. John, a prestigious seismologist,
has just discovered an earthquake that has the potential to cause a lot of damage to an area in southern
California. He has developed a technique that detects earthquakes that is 80% accurate. This technique
has told him this earthquake has a magnitude of 7.3. This technique has also told him that this
earthquake is bound to hit one of four fault lines. If the earthquake hits the san Andreas fault line there
is a chance for significant damage, if it hits one of the other three, there will not be major damage.
John has an ethical dilemma. He doesn t know if he should announce his findings. Does he tell
everyone so that they are prepared for the earthquake? Does he wait it out to see what happens? I can
see why John is having a hard time. If he announces his research and the earthquake doesn t happen
then he is labeled as a fraud. If he doesn t announce his research and there is significant damage from
this earthquake then he will feel terrible because he had the chance to warn everyone who lives in the
affected area. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of his choices is he can tell the research director about his findings so then he can decide the best
route to take in this situation. Another choice is he can tell the media so everyone is informed and can
decide what they feel the best route to take. Another choice is he can keep his research to himself and
see what happens when the earthquake hits. John may want to keep his research to himself with the
fear of having incorrect information. One more option John can is he can confide in a friend to
rationalize his thinking to see if they are thinking the same thing. I think that john is in a sticky

Common Themes In The Tragedy Of Julius Caesar
In one of William Shakespeare s many famous plays, The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, the title can be
deceiving. It is a popular opinion that Marcus Brutus was the real tragic hero of the story. Tragic
heroes and assassination are a common theme in Shakespeare s plays and, in 2016, it s a common
theme in the news. Berta Caceres of Honduras is an excellent example of both themes. Berta Caceres
was an environmental activist and co founder of the Council of Indigenous People of Honduras
(Copinh). She is well known for being against dams, illegal logging, and plantations. Berta was a high
profile, Indigenous, environmental and human rights activist which is very risky to be Honduras.

Completely loyal to his country he was tricked by Cassius and killed Caesar under the belief it was the
best thing to do for the citizens of Rome. Berta Caceres held many campaigns to help indigenous
people and the environment of Honduras but she never killed anyone in the name of her cause.
Instead, she was the one who was killed. In a sense her and Caesar are both the tragic heroes of their
stories but she s also similar to Brutus and how loyal she is to her beliefs. Another similarity between
Shakespeare s play and Berta s reality is that a group was involved in the murder. In Berta s case it is
unknown how many participated and if they were conspirators or hitmen. If they were conspirators
they were mostly likely from dam companies or plantations. A year earlier she d been awarded the
Goldman Environmental Prize for opposing one of the biggest hydropower projects in Central
America. If the assassinators were hitmen they were most likely either hired by the government or the
dam or plantation companies. Either way they certainly weren t her friends or colleagues because she
was loved throughout Honduras. Riots began after her death, much like the riot that grew after Antony

A Brief Description of the Concept of Courtly Love
For a brief description of the concept of courtly love , a few characteristics must be highlighted.
Courtly love appeared in Provence (southern France) in the eleventh century. It consists on the
expression of love in its most sincere, chivalric and noble form. It tended to be chaste and adulterous.
It was also secret and, in general, always took place between the members of the higher classes of
society. Andreas Capellanus defines it in The Art of Courtly Love as the pure love which binds
together the hearts of two lovers with every feeling of delight. This kind consists on the contemplation
of the mind and the affection of the heart; it goes as far as the kiss and the embrace and the modest
contact with the nude lover, omitting the final solace, for that is not permitted for those who wish to
love purely. [...] That is called mixed love which gets its effect from every delight of the flesh and
culminates in the final act of Venus (p.122). In Capellanus definition, it seems to me, that the previous
elements mentioned are placed out of the game of love, as long as we consider courtly love to be
expressed by the total submission of a young man towards his lady. The fulfilment of the souls in
courtly love can rarely be obtained, because there is no equality in the relationship of the individuals.
The lover s love is immanently pure, genuine in essence, but the beloved is usually characterized as
unachievable because her self is so perfect that there is not much the lover can

The Human Heart Essays
Introduction In our world organisms occupy a sliding scale of complexity. On one hand we have the
single cell organisms, where all necessary functions for their life are carried out within that one cell.
At the other extreme we have extremely complex multicellular organisms, of which humans are
perhaps the cardinal member. Obviously, with increased capacity comes increased abilities. Complex
organisms are able to manipulate their environment to a greater extent then their simpler cousins.
While this has a lot of advantages, it also presents interesting biological problems. With the increased
complexity multicellular organisms must have systems to deliver nutrients, signaling molecules, and
biochemical building blocks to every cell. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While contraction in skeletal muscle is triggered by motor neurons under central control, certain
cardiac muscle variants exhibit autorhythmicity. This means that that they are capable of producing
their own depolarizing electrical potential. The cardiomyocytes that are capable of producing their
own electrical potentials are found in what is referred to as the electrical condition system of the heart.
This system is comprised of specializes cardiomyocytes that are autorhythmic and are able to conduct
electrical potentials rapidly. These specialized structures include the sinoatrial node, atrioventricular
node and bundle, and Purkinje fibers. While the bulk of the heart is myocardium, there are structural
components that are pertinent. The four cardiac valves can be seen in a transverse section of the heart
at the base of the ventricles.

Surrounding each of these valves are dense fibrous rings or annuli made of connective tissue that

athletes need to stay away from. It s all about the game because if you have even one athlete taking

The World Is Flat, By Thomas L. Friedman
The World Is Flat is a visionary and insightful text written by Thomas L. Friedman. In short, the text
brings about the study of globalization at its forefront. Moreover, Friedman analyzes the evolution of
business and importance of information with respect not only to the 21st century, but with regards to
the history of trade as we know it. It is from this study and understanding that Friedman engages in a
detailed thought process as to how an institution, government, or individual can remain competitive in
such a progressive environment. In summary, through engaging in the fifteen chapters and recalling
the historical events used as evidence, one may arrive at more substantial conclusion as to how certain
entities will remain ahead of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To explain with an example, Friedman gives the reader a story, stating when I was growing up, my
parents told me, Finish your dinner. People in China and India are starving. I tell my daughters, Finish
your homework. People in India and China are starving for your job (270). Apparent in this personal
example is the presence of two critical arguments of the text. First and foremost, the quote draws a
contrast between two generations and highlights the fact that they are in some respects, exponentially
different. Thus, Friedman is able to reinforce his claims of how rapidly changing the world truly is.
Secondly, he uses this example of drastic change occurring from one generation to the next to
reference on of the driving forces or catalysts. To clarify, the reference to China and India s population
as eager for a job opportunity indirectly reemphasizes the effects of the spread of information as well
as the strength of outsourcing. From this quote, the reader gathers that individuals outside of their
home state have the ability to do their job and will do so without ever having to step into their country.
Again, Friedman puts into context the vast contribution that the web and other information sharing
technologies have given the globe. Although there are more detailed explanations and relevant
evidence, this quote serves as a fairly strong summary of Friedman s arguments in the first half of the
text. Whereas the first half of Friedman s work aims to

Coding Should Be Mandatory in Public Education
As robotics continues to integrate with current occupations, an increasing amount of industries are

implementing robotics and coding more extensively in this digital era. Therefore, computer science

in Raja 614). This supports the idea that as robot implementation meets human innovation, people
naturally change those aspects of their lives, which may mean a need for greater emphasis on CS
education. Robots will continue to consume once primarily human jobs, creating a more vastly
integrated workforce. Students today will work alongside these robots and/or be the ones coding them
in the future (Wohl). Thus, it is becoming more necessary to educate students starting at an elementary
level to be technologically literate by not just interfacing with computers and robots, but
understanding them and speaking their language a skill with a growing demand (Raja

Coding is becoming an essential skill in the job market allowing workers to adapt to the integrated
human robot workforce; therefore, it is imperative that CS and coding education be mandatory and

sacred. Another aspect of their religion is that they have Kirda and Kutungurlu in each tribe. Kirda is
the owner or boss of the land, while Kutungurlu is the manager or helper of the boss (Chatwin, 98).
The reason this binds the different tribes together is because the Kutungurlu has to be from a different
totemic clan and was a nephew of the Kirda on his mother s side (Ferry, 98). This ensures that the
clans communicate and be at peace with each other, as they are interdependent on the other. Another
aspect of their culture that strengthens feelings of community is the abundance of singing and rituals.
The songs of the Aboriginals tell the stories of their Ancestor walking across Australia, and each
Aboriginal owns a certain part of the song, which also acts as their property deeds. Whenever the
elders decided to sing the whole song, they send word so that all the Aboriginals of that clan gather
together and stand

Benevolent Sexism In Business
Better Together: Why Benevolent Sexism Is Harmful to Women in Business
In the fight for equality, it is obvious to defend against forms of sexism that are used for
antagonization. However, chivalrous attitudes that cast women as weak and in need of men are often
ignored. Social psychologists have studied the effects of benevolent sexism using experiments testing
one s performance shortly after being labeled as incompetent. Benevolent sexism is not a series of
compliments, but rather a threat to one s ability to think, learn, and perceive information. The
workplace is an environment of which benevolent sexism occurs most often and one of which most
are familiar with. Benevolent sexism in business does not allow men and women to achieve the same
goals within the work place. Forcing an individual into a social role can limit them to only specific
simple tasks that do not allow for maximum personal growth.
Often times, benevolent sexism is mistaken for a well intentioned compliment. However, there are real
world dangers that come with assigning a stereotype to an individual. Within business, one of the most
common forms of benevolent sexism is assuming that because a woman has the ability to bear
children she should engage in any nurturing roles. Melanie Tannenbaum elucidates the issue with
labeling women as more caring, maternal, and compassionate in the 2013 article, The Problem When
Sexism Just Sounds So Darn Friendly . Tannenbaum states:
What happens when there is a

History of St. Louis
St. Louis was acquired from France by the United States under President Thomas Jefferson in 1803, as
part of the Louisiana Purchase. It was founded by the French in 1764 when Auguste Chouteau
established a fur trading post and Pierre Laclède Liguest, a New Orleans merchant, founded a town at
the present site. They named it after King Louis XV of France and his patron saint, Louis IX. From
1770 to 1803, St. Louis was a Spanish possession, but it was ceded back to France in 1803 in
accordance with the Treaty of San Ildefonso (1800), only to be acquired by the U.S. as part of the
Louisiana Purchase later that year. The town was incorporated in 1809. From 1812 to 1821, St. Louis

The City s growth was primarily toward the north between 1840 and 1850, but about 1850 a rapid
advance took place to the south and southwest. On the north side, the land in Lowell was first offered
for sale in 1849 and in 1850 the town of Bremen was organized. This was where my family began in
St. Louis. The Oetting or as it was called the Oettingen family began one of the firsts banks in the
town of Bremen and from that it has merged or changed its name into the Boatmen s, Nation s, Bank
of America Family. This has been the cornerstone to my family s success in the St. Louis area.
The St. Louis World s Fair (1904), which was held in Forest Park, captured global attention as it
displayed various technological developments. The fair celebrated the centennial of the Louisiana
Purchase and transformed Forest Park into a veritable fairyland of white palaces, lagoons, and
landscaping, attracting 20,000,000 visitors to the City. The fair focused worldwide attention on St.
Louis and caused increased construction of new hotels, office buildings, and homes, which continued
until World War I. Throughout this time, St. Louis industry enjoyed a steady substantial growth. The
City became the world s largest producer of beer, shoes, stoves, wagons, and many other products.

Essay On The Woman Warrior
A typical warrior is a medieval knight in shining armor fighting for his life and homeland. Today, the
definition of what it means to be a warrior has become ambiguous. Often times, we view those willing
to sacrifice their lives for others soldiers, police officers, or firefighters as warriors. Even expanded in
this way, the warrior still has a connotation of physical bravery, masculine strength, and unhindered
confidence. However, the word warrior can have an entirely new meaning when we use it in a literary
context. It can be defined as a person who is simply fighting for convictions and values that are
morally and ethically right. As associated with women, some real, some legendary, some with evident
power, some seeming to be weak. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This story ignited this internal conflict that began within Maxine. She began contemplating this
balance between the strict Chinese tradition, and its relation to her American values. Nonetheless, a
key theme that emerges is acknowledging the power that Maxine s mother held as the storyteller. Her
interpretation of the events characterized Maxine s aunt as a repulsive person. Maxine was NOT [to]
tell anyone because it risked bringing exposure and shame to the family (1). After hearing the events
through her mother s perspective, Maxine understood that her mother controlled the way events
unraveled. This realization showcases how Maxine was able to think outside the framework her
mother was providing for her. Maxine imagined that in order to sustain being in love, [her aunt] often
worked at herself in the mirror (6). Her innocence and ability to recognize what her mother was trying
to invoke fear in her actually directed Maxine to think in a contradictory way. As a result of this
evolved critical thinking, Maxine never once characterized her dead aunt as a humiliation. From her
narrative, Maxine overlooked her actions and commended her resilience. Although directly not stated
within the text, Maxine expanded the definition of what it meant to be a warrior and gave this insight
that her aunt can be characterized

Sex, Rhetoric, And The Public Monument
Read Sex, Rhetoric, and the Public Monument by Irene J. Winter. What is the main argument of this
article? What evidence does the author use? Do you agree with the author s argument? Why or why
not?
Chiseled in stone yet standing high upon the apogee of a mountain, a sexually seductive sovereign can
be found. Though supposedly neither human nor god, he remains just barely within arm s reach of the
rays of divine sunlight. He is unwavering both in his alluring, dominant stance and his brutal authority,
especially compared to his enemies, one which lays mercilessly beneath his firm feet, with a spear
gutting his neck. With all eyes looking in his trajectory, his gaze focuses high above anyone else. His

Thus, the archetype of Naram Sîm shows to be the epitome of the perfect male for which other men
strive to embody.
This concept is conveniently backed by the elders of Naram Sîm, who were successful in claiming that
these attributes came in the form of being divine. This claim to divinity literally underpinned their
ascension to power and the relegation of everyone else; rulers were to be revered for their beauty and
power because it was truly their god given right. Alas, Winter argues that the sexual allure of the ruler
s body firmly functions was a mechanism to continue aggrandizing their own status and dominance.
Winter succesfully notes that this dominance and power was also preserved by what we would call
propaganda. In regards to another period of art, Winter suggests that aesthetic pleasure can serve as
the vehicle by which a highly seductive ideal vision is articulated for the citizen viewer . In regards to
the stela, the viewer sees an image of an audacious, virtuous hero, the signifier which may have
instilled and preserved the distorted perception of hierarchy. Though the idea of being an alpha male is
nothing new at this point in history, it does become physically stamped into history, used to gain
loyalty between the ruler and the ruled.
However, this belief was not exclusive to just the king and his subjects, but also between

process the sugar fast enough. So this amount of sugar tells the pancreas to make insulin, which is the
fat producing hormone. High insulin levels also have the problem of blocking the Full! signals that
travel to a person s brain. From there, the converted sugar energy gets stored in the liver, and the
excess gets stored in fat cells, creating, well, the bad fat no one wants on their body. This is often
common with low fat foods, and certain carbohydrates, as they turn into sugar, and eventually, fat.

William Clover, talking about his experience in Lyon, the second largest city in France in his book The
French Don t Diet Plan, says, A... search on the official Lyon website revealed that there are no gyms
in that city. This might confuse some people, as they think about the thin, and small waistlines of our
Parisian counterparts. How can people not work out, but still say so thin? The answer is simple, they
get their exercise elsewhere. They are very active people, while Americans are often lazy, or only
exercise without taking diet into consideration. Actually, before 1953, it was common knowledge that
exercise could cause heart attacks and diminish sex drive. That was until a study in 1953 showed that
a fat and a skinny mouse ate the exact same, but had a difference due to the fat mouse s unhealthy
habit of not exercising on his wheel. Fast forward to 1980, and in the next two decades, fitness club
memberships doubled. The only problem is, obesity rates doubled as well. Billions went to trying to
lose weight, and a fitness revolution sparked across the nation. It was easily seen that gyms were
expanding, but waistlines expanded as well, and a decade later, two thirds of Americans were
overweight or obese.

St John s Wort is widely known as an herbal treatment for depression. However, it also has indirect
effects on weight loss. It increases the chemical production in the brain which allows for faster
metabolism. Although its use is highly effective, this herbal product should be avoided too. Because of
the changes it causes in the brain, it should be used in restriction. Doctors are the only ones who can
prescribe the use of this herbal preparation.
Guggul
Guggul is mostly found in Ayurvedic medicines. It is a common herb used in many herbal weight loss

The Era Of Rock Music
Introduction: The 1970s were an interesting era for rock music. It offered the genre a harder sound that
was not prominent in the 1960s. This was due to the rise in hard rock, glam rock, and arena rock bands
such as AC/DC, The Who, Van Halen, and Aerosmith. To go along with this transition in sound, the
1970s continued the experimental music scene that the 1960s created. Groups like Deep Purple,
Electric Light Orchestra, and Pink Floyd (of course) helped progress rock music with their
experimentation with song recording. With so many great artists, it is no wonder why so many people
see the 1970s as being the best era for rock music. While there were tons of great bands in the
seventies one band constantly is referred to as one of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I personally believe that accusation is false, so here is my essay on why Queen is the most overrated
band in rock history.
Overrated Explanation: Before I get started I must go over what I mean by overrated . When I say a
group is overrated, I do not necessarily mean they are bad. I personally enjoy Queen and rank them
highly on my list of favorites. By stating a band as being overrated, I mean that they receive more
fame and acclaim than they deserve. Many great bands are guilty of this to an extent, such as my
favorite band The Beatles . This essay is to purely explain why Queen doesn t deserve the acclaim
they receive and not why they are a terrible band, because that is not true at all.
Musical Style: Let s start off with Queen s impact on rock music. All of the greatest rock bands have
influenced the bands that have come after them. For example, Led Zeppelin s early use of heavy
guitars and drums is arguably responsible for the creation of the heavy metal genre (Waksman). A
more modern example is Nirvana, who s music in the early and mid 1990s helped popularize
alternative music as a whole (Azerrad). This brought alternative music to the mainstream making
bands like Green Day, Bowling for Soup, Pearl Jam, and Blink 182 become regulars on the radio.
Compared to other artists of this caliber, Queen has not influenced rock as much as expected. The
musical style

The Rate Of Unwanted Teenage Pregnancies And Sexually...
The rates of unwanted teenage pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases are drastically
increasing. Sexual Education has become an effective way of enforcing safety precautions and
informing teens about healthy sexual activity. Sexual Education is the act of educating others about
intercourse, the anatomy of the human body, sexual reproduction, abstinence, and contraceptives.
Elizabeth Boskey, a STD expert, believes that schools should teach sex education because of the
positive effects it has on the students. However, Sol Gordon believes that the parents should be
responsible for teaching their children about sex. Even though Elizabeth Boskey and Sol Gordon take
different stances on how sex education should be taught, they both agree that children should be
educated about sexually transmitted diseases, teen pregnancy, and safe sex. In Elizabeth Boskey s
article, Top 10 Reasons to Support Comprehensive Education in Schools she supports sexual
education being taught in school. Boskey believes that schools cover the whole spectrum about safe
sex and that schools effectively teach the students. She proves that not only do the schools teach
abstinence, but the schools also teach their students how to engage in safe sex. Teaching the kids about
abstinence doesn t discourage the kids from engaging in sexual intercourse but teaching the kids about
safe sex will allow them to engage in sex safely without endangering each other (Boskey Par. 2). The
school also presents

One way or another, these stories are related to their individual culture and the history of it. The
African American literature is a story about how Africans did not get a good education, if any at all.
While reading Long Black Song the reader can read that Sarah, the main character, does not have

Oliver Burkeman
In his article, The Power of Negative Thinking, Oliver Burkeman discusses the realities behind
excessive optimism and the benefits to negative thinking. Specifically, Burkeman argues that positive
thinking hinders the preparation and motivation necessary to tackle actual real world problems
whereas negative thinking allows for such preparation. His argument s strengths come from his
constant use of logic in regards to his evidence whether it be the fire walkers in the first paragraph or
the opinions of Barbara Ehrenreich in the paragraph nine. In short, Burkeman does a superb job of
championing the benefits of pessimism through his criticism on positive thinking.
At a first glance, the holistic impression that one gets from Burkeman s article could easily deal with
the one sidedness of his argument. It certainly is true that he did little to express the merits of positive
thinking, but I argue that his acknowledgement of the mindset of positive thinkers adds to his overall
effective refutation of the counter argument. In paragraph two, Burkeman (2012) mentions the ...

In paragraph eight, he defines positive thinking as not a not an act of cheerful optimism but as a

expressed through the study with the dehydrated subjects. The test group asked to visualize water
were under more stress compared to those who did not visualize anything. (Burkeman, 2012) In this
way, optimism created a false sense of reality and thereby created more anxiety for the test group. In a
situation like this Burkeman insinuated that the opposite would be true for negative thinkers. A person
who pictured the worst would be more driven to take the appropriate action to rehydrate as opposed to
a person who took no action based on the assumption that things would work out

Harrison Bergeron Hero
Harrison Bergeron
In Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut, a society set in the future is controlled by a government who
claims to make all people equal, when in reality, they are filled with corruption. Harrison Bergeron, an
elite young teenager, sees the malfeasance in the government, and decides to stand up for the greater
good of the nation. In order to do this, Harrison removes all of the handicaps placed on him by the
government and reveals it to the world on live television, eventually being shot and killed. Many
people may see Harrison as a threat to his society due to the unnecessary chaos he caused. However,
because he sparked the idea of rebellion in a civilization desperate for freedom, Harrison Bergeron can
be considered a hero to society.
Harrison s actions of can be described as heroic due to the fact that he attempted to revolutionize the
society in a way that benefitted the population as a whole, not just himself. Many other people were
angered and confused by the idea of handicaps, and by standing up to the government when all other
people were afraid to do so, he acted in a selfless manner, a characteristic of a true hero. An example
of another person doubting the intentions of the Handicap General can be seen at the beginning of the
story, when George, Harrison s father, realizes that it is unfair to place the hindrance of a handicap on
a ballerina. On page 2, the text states, George was toying with the vague notion that maybe dancers

The Separation Of Gender In The Toy Industry
Retailers across America have had specific ways of marketing products to young children for several
decades. Depending on gender, these products have been advertised and targeted in two distinct
different ways. The most infamous example of this type of practice is in the toy industry. In almost
any supermarket, like Wal Mart, it is possible to find this separation in gender appeal in each
respective toy aisle. Based off these differences, messages that suggest to boys and girls how they
should behave and identify due to their gender can be found. The boys aisle has an overall theme of
blue, correlating with the idea blue represents masculinity. In it, items such as toy guns, wrestling and
super hero action figures, race cars, and sports accessories can be found. The toy guns, such as Nerf,
are exclusively found in the boys aisle because men are overwhelmingly expected to enjoy activities
such as hunting or to enter the military in their later lives. Boys are thought to and encouraged to
idolize wrestling stars and super heroes because of their bold appearance and brave personalities,
something men are seen to strive for. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 2. Emily Dickinson s Success Is Counted Sweetest Criticism Jirawoot Sararit (B.A. English Linguistics) 1st Class Honors, SWU, Thailand Success Is Counted Sweetest Success Is Counted Sweetest is a well known poem written by Emily Dickinson in 1859. It is obviously seen that the message of the poem is that people who do not succeed are those who truly understand success for what it is (Cummings, 2013). In other words, deprivation can lead to greater understanding and appreciation of what people lack. This paper is composed of three points including how the unity of the paradoxical idea of the poem is presented, how the poem can be viewed historically and biographically in feminist aspects, and how the central idea of the poem is responded. The Unity of the Paradoxical Idea in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To begin with, the use of the word nectar‟ along with the word sweet‟ in the first stanza implies femininity. It can be assumed that there is a message from a woman‟s point of view. According to history and her biography, Emily Dickinson had modernist ideas that women should have as equal rights as men which they did not have at that time. In fact, women, especially wives, were treated as the slaves of men in the eyes of the law even though women can do several duties that men cannot. Therefore, women started to work and to express their voice. (Leiter, 2007). This background knowledge can be understood to explain when success „to comprehend a nectar‟ changes to „victory‟ in the last two stanzas. The image of a battle which causes physical and mental pain to the defeated soldiers (men) is mentioned as „agonized.‟ It is clear that even though men are strong, they still have weaknesses as shown in the image of losing the battle. It is showed that both genders have weaknesses. Therefore, both of them should be equal. This feminist idea is considered to be a dominant one during Emily‟s lifetime. The Response to the Central Idea of the Poem After reading the first stanza, the central idea of the poem seems absolutely right to me. The whole poem captivates my attention to realize the value of what I am deprived. It can be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Lake Tahoe History The athlete locks in his bindings on his Burton snowboard, adjusts his goggles, and peers down the mountain. He stares at the snow covered trees, powdered slopes, and sapphire blue alpine lake in the distance. The young man remembers his skiing adventures through the trees as a small boy, rises to his feet, takes a deep breath and smiles. The crisp mountain air and the smell of pine trees fill his lungs as he glides down the blanket of snow on the groomed slopes of the mountain resort. The enjoyment of the sport of skiing and snowboarding, and the many other wonders of the Tahoe basin have been passed on to him from his family, and is like no other feeling in the world. Lake Tahoe is such a culturally and historically significant part of North ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Lake Tahoe basin is divided by the scenic and beautiful border of California and Nevada. The gorgeous lake is, ...admired for its great depth and clarity and beautiful alpine surroundings (tahoe.usgs.gov). The mountain ranges around the perimeter of the basin were formed 24 million years ago by the rise and fall of the earth s crust due to the movement of faults. The Carson Range to the east was created by tilt block faulting and resulted in a very steep mountain range (tahoeadventuresports.com). Another fault created the Sierra Nevada range to the west, but is more of a gentle change in elevation. As the fault blocks were thrown up, the high peaks of the mountain ranges were created and as other fault blocks were thrown down, a valley was created. Some of the peaks of the ranges can reach over 10,000 feet above sea level, making an exaggerated difference between the lake and the ranges. Movement of other faults in the area caused the valley to sink thousands of feet below the mountains on the east and west. Volcanic activity from Mt. Pluto on the north shore resulted in lava flowing and blocking the outlet of the newly developing valley. About 3 million years ago the ice age created glaciers in the Sierra Nevada. As they moved and scoured the land, lakes were created behind them as piles of granite rock were left to block the outflow of water from melted snow and rainfall. Lake Tahoe, Fallen Leaf Lake, Cascade Lakes, and Donner Lake were formed by this process. Lake Tahoe as we know it today is the third deepest lake in North America and tenth deepest lake in the world, with the deepest part measuring 1645 feet. Not only are Tahoe s geologic origins intriguing, but so is the history of the people inhabiting the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Liberal Arts Program Catches Your Attention You arrive on campus for a tour, hear the beautiful music of the band, see some of the most amazing pieces of art and get to sit in the classes of current students. Falling in love with the literature, philosophy and other courses offered by the university. In general the Liberal Arts program catches your attention. This program becomes a deciding factor in narrowing down your options and finally making the decision of what college you are going to attend. But before you can; you find out this is the last year they will be open because of the lack of funds. This is a common devastation for many Universities because due to lack of funds they either shut down the program or prohibited the program growth. Perfect examples are Sweet Briar College, and Tennessee Temple University. Sweet Briar College a private all women s Liberal Arts college in Virginia due to insurmountable financial challenges was shut down.Tennessee Temple University a Christian Liberal Arts College was to shut down and merge with Piedmont International University another private Christian College 300 miles away in North Carolina . Could you imagine what is going through the head of these colleges students right now? They are losing their second home, families and some maybe losing their chance at an education. • 5. Dna Testing And The Second Amendment DNAAS EVIDENCE DNA testing was first used in criminal prosecutions in 1985 and is now admissible in all states. (Hails, 184) Scientific and legal communities seem to universally accept the use of DNA as good evidence. Questions could arise regarding testing procedures. There are several testing methods that have been proven reliable and easily pass general acceptance and scientific validity tests. This is causes number of Daubert cases questioning DNA to decline. In most cases, the tests that are used are well established and do not require a separate hearing (Hails, 160) Once it is established the testing method used passes the Daubert test, the court must determine admissibility based on the Fourth Amendment. The Fourth Amendment is the right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable search and seizures, shall not be violated and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized (US Const.) In United States v Davis, Earl Davis was shot and while being treated for his gunshot wound, the Howard County Police Department (HCPD) in Maryland collected his clothing and logged it along with records of Davis s arrest. (ALK) operates as a holding company, which through its businesses, Alaska Airlines, Horizon Air, and Virgin America, encompasses commercial aviation services. The company was founded in 1985 with Alaska Airlines and acquired Horizon Air and Jet America Airlines in 1986. Jet America Airlines was merged into Alaska Airlines in 1987. In December 2016, Alaska Air Group acquired Virgin America for approximately $2.6 billion. However, until 2019, Alaska Air Group will operate Virgin America and Alaska Airlines separately. Alaska Air Group is headquartered in Seattle, Washington, United States. Alaska Airlines History For over 75 years, Alaska Airlines has been guided by honesty, compassion, originality, proficiency, and a distinctive spirit. Alaska Airlines started in 1932 as McGee Airways by Linious Mac McGee. He painted McGee Airways on a three passenger Stinson and began flying out of Anchorage, Alaska. In 1934, McGee combined with Star Air Service, with 22 aircraft, they became the largest airline in Alaska. In 1937, business expanded again with the acquiring of Alaska Interior Airlines. Later that year, McGee sold Star to one of his former pilots, Don Goodman, who renamed the company Star Air Lines. In 1938, the Civil Aeronautics Authority (CAA) was created to regulate airlines. • 7. Virtue Ethics And Prostitution In The United States Pornography is a sin that has catastrophic in its effect on the state of men and women in the United States. In 2016 alone, more than 4,599,000,000 hours of porn were consumed on the world s largest porn site (Lazzaro, 2017). This statistic is shocking, in that, one year only has 8760 hours in it for one individual. That means that these hours would make up 5,246 centuries of time spent watching pornography in one year. These numbers are astronomical, and porn continues to create billions of dollars in revenue with some numbers estimating that in 2016 the porn industry as a whole took in 97 billion dollars worldwide (Fredrickson 2007). But why is pornography bad? Clearly there is a large market for it that is being met, but why is this a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is defined as A right act is the action a virtuous person would do in the same circumstances (citation). In other words, what would Jesus, or some other person acting morally, do given a similar situation. Virtue ethics is much more concerned with the perfection of the individual and working to get people to act their most moral. Using the normative ethical system specified in your selection, provide detailed argumentation to support the position ( for or against ) in your selection regarding the moral issue. While you may want to incorporate empirical data as part of your arguments, do not do so excessively. Virtue ethics would be staunchly opposed to the problem of pornography. Pornography is an outgrowth of a very normal human necessity to procreate, but it becomes hijacked and creates an unhealthy amount of lust in an individual. Also, given the awful conditions and experiences that so many of the actors suffer when creating the product, its immense evil becomes a clear moral problem. It is a problem though, that must be dealt with on an individual level, as the statistics show, there is an immense market for this material, and the only way to really fight this kind of evil, is for the individual who is currently on porn, to get off of it. Then work to help others get off and stay off in their community. Otherwise, there is really not going to be one easy way to stop this epidemic in America. Virtue ethics is also the perfect system to help fight this problem because Virtue ethics sees the role of moral theory as being concerned with strategies for perfecting human nature and for helping individuals become well developed human beings (Stewart, Blocker, Petrik 2013). With all of the problems that where listed, it is clear that the problem with pornography is something that is creating far more problems for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Ethical Dilemmas Of Earthquake There are about 10,000 earthquakes in southern California every year (USDS). I would think that it would take a tremendous amount of time to track every earthquake. John, a prestigious seismologist, has just discovered an earthquake that has the potential to cause a lot of damage to an area in southern California. He has developed a technique that detects earthquakes that is 80% accurate. This technique has told him this earthquake has a magnitude of 7.3. This technique has also told him that this earthquake is bound to hit one of four fault lines. If the earthquake hits the san Andreas fault line there is a chance for significant damage, if it hits one of the other three, there will not be major damage. John has an ethical dilemma. He doesn t know if he should announce his findings. Does he tell everyone so that they are prepared for the earthquake? Does he wait it out to see what happens? I can see why John is having a hard time. If he announces his research and the earthquake doesn t happen then he is labeled as a fraud. If he doesn t announce his research and there is significant damage from this earthquake then he will feel terrible because he had the chance to warn everyone who lives in the affected area. ... • 9. Common Themes In The Tragedy Of Julius Caesar In one of William Shakespeare s many famous plays, The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, the title can be deceiving. It is a popular opinion that Marcus Brutus was the real tragic hero of the story. Tragic heroes and assassination are a common theme in Shakespeare s plays and, in 2016, it s a common theme in the news. Berta Caceres of Honduras is an excellent example of both themes. Berta Caceres was an environmental activist and co founder of the Council of Indigenous People of Honduras (Copinh). She is well known for being against dams, illegal logging, and plantations. Berta Caceres held many campaigns to help indigenous people and the environment of Honduras but she never killed anyone in the name of her cause. Instead, she was the one who was killed. In a sense her and Caesar are both the tragic heroes of their stories but she s also similar to Brutus and how loyal she is to her beliefs. Another similarity between Shakespeare s play and Berta s reality is that a group was involved in the murder. In Berta s case it is unknown how many participated and if they were conspirators or hitmen. If they were conspirators they were mostly likely from dam companies or plantations. A year earlier she d been awarded the Goldman Environmental Prize for opposing one of the biggest hydropower projects in Central America. If the assassinators were hitmen they were most likely either hired by the government or the dam or plantation companies. • 10. A Brief Description of the Concept of Courtly Love For a brief description of the concept of courtly love , a few characteristics must be highlighted. Courtly love appeared in Provence (southern France) in the eleventh century. It consists on the expression of love in its most sincere, chivalric and noble form. It tended to be chaste and adulterous. It was also secret and, in general, always took place between the members of the higher classes of society. Andreas Capellanus defines it in The Art of Courtly Love as the pure love which binds together the hearts of two lovers with every feeling of delight. This kind consists on the contemplation of the mind and the affection of the heart; it goes as far as the kiss and the embrace and the modest contact with the nude lover, omitting the final solace, for that is not permitted for those who wish to love purely. [...] That is called mixed love which gets its effect from every delight of the flesh and culminates in the final act of Venus (p.122). In Capellanus definition, it seems to me, that the previous elements mentioned are placed out of the game of love, as long as we consider courtly love to be expressed by the total submission of a young man towards his lady. The fulfilment of the souls in courtly love can rarely be obtained, because there is no equality in the relationship of the individuals. The lover s love is immanently pure, genuine in essence, but the beloved is usually characterized as unachievable because her self is so perfect that there is not much the lover can ... On one hand we have the single cell organisms, where all necessary functions for their life are carried out within that one cell. At the other extreme we have extremely complex multicellular organisms, of which humans are perhaps the cardinal member. Obviously, with increased capacity comes increased abilities. Complex organisms are able to manipulate their environment to a greater extent then their simpler cousins. While this has a lot of advantages, it also presents interesting biological problems. With the increased complexity multicellular organisms must have systems to deliver nutrients, signaling molecules, and biochemical building blocks to every cell. In ... This system is comprised of specializes cardiomyocytes that are autorhythmic and are able to conduct electrical potentials rapidly. In short, the text brings about the study of globalization at its forefront. Moreover, Friedman analyzes the evolution of business and importance of information with respect not only to the 21st century, but with regards to the history of trade as we know it. It is from this study and understanding that Friedman engages in a detailed thought process as to how an institution, government, or individual can remain competitive in such a progressive environment. People in China and India are starving. I tell my daughters, Finish your homework. People in India and China are starving for your job (270). Apparent in this personal example is the presence of two critical arguments of the text. First and foremost, the quote draws a contrast between two generations and highlights the fact that they are in some respects, exponentially different. Thus, Friedman is able to reinforce his claims of how rapidly changing the world truly is. Secondly, he uses this example of drastic change occurring from one generation to the next to reference on of the driving forces or catalysts. To clarify, the reference to China and India s population as eager for a job opportunity indirectly reemphasizes the effects of the spread of information as well as the strength of outsourcing. From this quote, the reader gathers that individuals outside of their home state have the ability to do their job and will do so without ever having to step into their country. Again, Friedman puts into context the vast contribution that the web and other information sharing technologies have given the globe. Although there are more detailed explanations and relevant evidence, this quote serves as a fairly strong summary of Friedman s arguments in the first half of the text. Language, Physical Appearance And Religion TITLE Sanjana Satish H2P Paper 1 The word community is usually defined as a group of people living together in the same area and having some common characteristics, such as language, physical appearance and religion. In The Songlines by Bruce Chatwin, the common characteristics that form the Aboriginals tribal communities are familial ties and their culture (similar form of lifestyle, similar beliefs and similar traditions); while in Gilgamesh it is the city state they belong to and their settled lifestyle that holds the community together. They all go on Walkabouts, they all sing the songs of the Ancestors, and they all have tjurungas that they view as sacred. Another aspect of their religion is that they have Kirda and Kutungurlu in each tribe. Kirda is the owner or boss of the land, while Kutungurlu is the manager or helper of the boss (Chatwin, 98). The reason this binds the different tribes together is because the Kutungurlu has to be from a different totemic clan and was a nephew of the Kirda on his mother s side (Ferry, 98). This ensures that the clans communicate and be at peace with each other, as they are interdependent on the other. Another aspect of their culture that strengthens feelings of community is the abundance of singing and rituals. The songs of the Aboriginals tell the stories of their Ancestor walking across Australia, and each Aboriginal owns a certain part of the song, which also acts as their property deeds. • 20. Benevolent Sexism In Business Better Together: Why Benevolent Sexism Is Harmful to Women in Business In the fight for equality, it is obvious to defend against forms of sexism that are used for antagonization. However, chivalrous attitudes that cast women as weak and in need of men are often ignored. Social psychologists have studied the effects of benevolent sexism using experiments testing one s performance shortly after being labeled as incompetent. Benevolent sexism is not a series of compliments, but rather a threat to one s ability to think, learn, and perceive information. The workplace is an environment of which benevolent sexism occurs most often and one of which most are familiar with. Benevolent sexism in business does not allow men and women to achieve the same goals within the work place. Forcing an individual into a social role can limit them to only specific simple tasks that do not allow for maximum personal growth. Often times, benevolent sexism is mistaken for a well intentioned compliment. However, there are real world dangers that come with assigning a stereotype to an individual. Within business, one of the most common forms of benevolent sexism is assuming that because a woman has the ability to bear children she should engage in any nurturing roles. Alas, Winter argues that the sexual allure of the ruler s body firmly functions was a mechanism to continue aggrandizing their own status and dominance. To go along with this transition in sound, the 1970s continued the experimental music scene that the 1960s created. Groups like Deep Purple, Electric Light Orchestra, and Pink Floyd (of course) helped progress rock music with their experimentation with song recording. I personally enjoy Queen and rank them highly on my list of favorites. By stating a band as being overrated, I mean that they receive more fame and acclaim than they deserve. Many great bands are guilty of this to an extent, such as my favorite band The Beatles . This essay is to purely explain why Queen doesn t deserve the acclaim they receive and not why they are a terrible band, because that is not true at all. For example, Led Zeppelin s early use of heavy guitars and drums is arguably responsible for the creation of the heavy metal genre (Waksman). A more modern example is Nirvana, who s music in the early and mid 1990s helped popularize alternative music as a whole (Azerrad).
