several factors. Firstly, the field of law is vast and encompasses numerous sub-disciplines, each
with its own set of principles, statutes, and precedents. Navigating through this extensive legal
landscape to provide meaningful examples that are both relevant and illustrative requires a deep
understanding of various legal concepts.
Moreover, the legal system is dynamic and subject to continuous changes through new
legislation, court decisions, and evolving societal norms. Staying updated on the latest
developments is crucial for crafting an essay that reflects the current state of the law.
Additionally, the process of researching and selecting pertinent examples involves sifting
through an extensive array of legal cases, statutes, and scholarly articles. This demands a
meticulous approach and the ability to critically evaluate the relevance and significance of each
example to effectively support the essay's arguments.
Crafting a coherent and well-structured essay in the field of law also necessitates strong
analytical and writing skills. A successful essay not only presents relevant examples but also
weaves them together to form a compelling narrative that addresses the essay prompt or thesis
statement.
Furthermore, legal writing often requires adherence to specific citation styles, such as Bluebook
or APA, adding an extra layer of complexity to the task. Properly citing legal authorities and
sources is essential for the credibility and academic integrity of the essay.

demands a comprehensive understanding of legal principles, up-to-date knowledge of legal
developments, strong analytical skills, and proficiency in legal writing conventions. However,

quality essay on the subject.

2. Believer Bottle Analysis
I needed to amplify the sound waves of the song I am a Believer using a two liter
bottle. In order to achieve my goal of playing this song clear with, no fuzziness, and
no echo I had to look at my materials. I chose water because the sound waves will
resonate off and not absorb into the water, and then the soundwaves will exit through
holes that I cut into the bottle. The materials we used to make this sound amplify is
a two liter bottle, an iPod, and water from the sink. One lesson in particular helped
me because it showed me that an open cabinet will have the sound waves bounce off
the walls and exit through the opening and produce a louder nose than a closed
cabinet. Another lesson we did as a class that helped me was the tour around
3. Earth And Venus Similarities
There are a total of eight known planets in our solar system which consist of four
inner and four outer planets; the four inner planets, Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars,
are known as the terrestrial planets because not only are they the closest to the sun,
but they are also Earth like, meaning that they are similar to Earths composition and
structure ( What is a Terrestrial Planet? ). While these three planets bare close
similarities, the planet that closely resembles Earth is Venus. Known as the Sister
Planets, or the Twins, Earth and Venus are said to share close similarities in
relation to their size, mass, density, composition, and distance from the sun ( Venus
Compared to Earth and Venus Information and Facts ). However, as Matt Williams
(2016) suggests, while these two planets may have been very similar early in their
existence, just as with most siblings, as time progressed, they began to change
essentially transforming into two distinct, individual planets, with very little in
common. After the creation of the solar system, 4.5 years ago, Venus, just as
Earth, was said to have formed as gravity drew in a whirlwind of dust and gas (
Earth In Depth; Venus In Depth ). Venus is the second planet from the sun
(67,237,910 miles away), and the only planet said to be named after a female the
Roman goddess of love and beauty ( Planet Venus Facts ). On the other hand, as the
only planet in the solar system not named after Greek and Roman gods or

are the Merokee Indians that farmed and fished in the area. In 1650, a Reverend

the Town of Merrick. They were drawn by the fertile soil and the Meadow Brook

To what extent did cross cultural differences have an impact on the failure of merger
Daimler Benz and Chrysler Corporation ?
Kamilia Broderick
H00287852
Executive Summary
This case study explores the failure of the merger of two renowned car companies,
Daimler Benz and Chrysler and how the integration of the two contrasting
organisational cultures resulted in a cross cultural mismatch. Due to the lack of
cultural understanding from both sides, the notion of potential synergies as a result
of the combination went unrealised. The study/research of cross cultural management
in organisations plays an important role in fathoming why this merger was
unsuccessful. Introduction

According to a study on cultural strategies (Steven H. Appelbaum et al, 2009), the
assessment of these cultural variables within organisations has significant relevance
to the success of their integration; simply assessing the cultural similarity/differences
increase the odds of successful mergers. The more compatible the companies are, the
less likely they will face adversity. When it came to operations and management,
Daimler Benz and Chrysler could not properly blend due to Germans and Americans
contrasting approaches of administrative issues, as well as communication styles and
other differences. In fact, a vast number of significant Chrysler executives and
engineers resigned which lead to the dissatisfaction of Daimler employees with
Chrysler s division performance. As a result, the two cultures were extremely
unhappy working together. One of the Daimler managers (JГјrgen Hubbert) stated
prior to the merger, We have a clear understanding: one company, one vision, one
chairman, two cultures. , however failing to realise that they were two cultures with
strong distinctive heritages in other words, it was a failure of fit (The Economist The
DaimlerChrysler emulsion , 2000). It was evident that the people suffered from culture
shock, as they were systematically confronted with behaviour not compatible with
their own culturally determined rules of behaviour (Gerhard Fink et al, 2007). It was
obvious that there was a lack of cross cultural management from

The birch tree is much like the willows and aspens that we see today with their
beautiful white outer bark that glistens in the light. Frost presents a love for a tree

what forces of nature make it that way. He then talks about the children who
would sing for the flexible branches of the trees and remain safe when they got to
the ground, he also describes how the ice would weigh the branches down, but not
cause the branches to break. In the text of Birches , Robert Frost observes, When I
see birches bend to left and right Across the lines of straighter darker trees, I like to
think some boy s been swinging them (). He sees these trees as something that was
vastly affected by children in this day age who would play in ball games and do
many other things, which included swinging from the great birches in the woods.
Furthermore, this form of love is presented as something amazing and

The art of Blacksmithing, crafting master swords out of fire and iron, was no easy
task. Blacksmiths often bought iron ore in which they melt down and add carbon,
turning iron into steel. Blacksmithing has been used for thousands of years, and in
the that time, blacksmiths had learned the process in which to combine the steels
together to make a flexible yet strong blade. Blacksmiths had no set process for
crafting steel or the weapons in which they made according to the customer s

10. A Look At The Evolution Of Microsoft Windows
Three Decades of Looking Through Windows: A Look at the Evolution of
Microsoft Windows While Microsoft Windows may not be the first operating
system to have been invented, it is arguably the most popular one out there. It
started very slowly in 1985 with its first release of Windows 1.0 and has grown
immensely in functionality and usability since then. As the system has evolved, it
has influenced many areas of the industry including how we work, how we play,
and how we build hardware and software. Windows 10 will be the next release and
will occur in 2015. This release will mark another milestone for the operating
system with emphasis placed on merging the gap between tablets and desktop PCs,
cloud computing, and platform unification. While Microsoft is looking to the
future with this release, there are also some elements of the past it plans to bring
back; elements that users have grown to know and love such as the Start menu.
Windows had humble beginnings. It wasn t until the release of version 3.0 that it
really started to take off and become a ubiquitous product in the consumer and
business world. Windows 1.0 arrived in 1985, ten years after the formation of
Microsoft, the company that created it. It was preceded by MS DOS, a command
line based, single process operating system. MS DOS s main goal was to create
software that manages, or runs, the computer hardware and also serves to bridge the
gap between the computer hardware and programs, such as a word processor.

13. The Need to Renewable Sources of Energy
1.1 INTRODUCTION Energy is vital for human survival and development. Most
of today s energy comes fossil fuels and Biomass. However these types of fuels are
deplitable and emit green house gases e.g. CO2which leads to global warming.
(See Fig 1.1).On the other hand, renewable energy is inexhaustible and does not
any produce green house gases that can pollute the environment. Therefore there is
need to shift to renewable sources of energy. Figure 1.1: A graph showing energy
consumption and development between 1965 and 2010 (https:/
/www.google.com). For example, in Kenya here is a large geographical imbalance
in electricity demand and supply. For instance electrification rates ranges from 15
20% nationally and at rural it ranges from 5 10%. Electricity only accounts for
10% of the total final energy consumption. 60% of all electricity is consumed by
commercial and industrial sectors. Only 24% is consumed by households. The
demand is rapidly increasing and there is need to incorporate renewable energy in
the energy sector in order to make Vision 2030 a reality. Renewable energy is the
energy that comes from sources that are continually replenished. This include: solar
energy, wind energy, hydropower, ocean energy, geothermal energy. One of the
promising renewable sources of energy is solar energy. Solar renewable energy has
many advantages and these include: Plenty of resource: The sunlight reaching the

15. Captivity And Restoration Of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson
A Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson by Mary
Rowlandson is a primary example of the sectionalism of Puritans, and more
specifically, Puritan women. Rowlandson recounts the attack on her home by the
Wampanoag tribe as well as the aftermath of her eventual capture. Being certain to
record the removes, or days spent traveling with her captors, Rowlandson created a
record of her travels with her captors as well as preserved her own womanhood from
the accusations of her own people. The time of Puritan colonies was one in which
male preachers held the most power. Preachers received more education than most of
the population and their status as males provided them an unquestionable position of
power in Puritan society.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This restriction of interests is clearly displayed in the captivity narrative of Mrs.
Rowlandson. One example of this is her specific detail regarding her sleeping
situation and detailing of anything involving her body or emotion. As mentioned
above, Puritans placed a great deal of emphasis on the chastity of a woman,
meaning that Rowlandson was compelled to record everything that happened to
her in order to protect herself and her chastity by including her womanly feelings
such as her grief from having her child killed and having to leave her family
behind. Another example of sectionalism within the narrative can be found in
Rowlandson s account of the specific locations that she traveled to and the culture
of the people that she was with. She frequently mentions locations of Indian towns
and the barbaric behavior of the people living in them in order to both provide
details concerning the land around her home and to create a significant divide
between herself and the immoral group she was with. Finally, Mrs. Rowlandson
was able to display Puritan sectionalism by killing her captors and returning to her
family. As odd as it was for Mary to kill the Indians with brutality akin to that
exhibited by the natives, her actions were seen as justified and actually glorified by
the Puritans after her eventual return and

Throughout the process of the play, the plot and acting was incredibly engaging and
dramatic. As for the stage directing, all props and cues are organized and well

finally awakened from his ghost visits, he saw Mrs. Dilbar and ran to her with open

who portrayed the role of Young Ebenezer. He had charisma, physicality, and was
convincing in bringing the young Ebenezer to life. For example, when Belle came

on his hips and standing a distancing himself from her. When his sister came to visit

17. The Pros And Cons Of Consequentialism
Consequentialism seems, at the outset, to be a favourable ethical theory, as it
provides a straightforward and rational framework for maximising a target value
on the basis of determining which act brings about the best possible consequences.
For many, one of the most attractive features of the theory is that it maintains an
impartiality in cases of individual difference, such as gender, species, race, class or
creed. It is, however, considered by some to be too demanding, both in terms of the
process of determining the right action and also what it asks the individual to
sacrifice for the sake of the larger world. I will focus on the objection from Williams
on the latter demand, specifically the impact of Consequentialisms stipulation of...

Put simply, Jim is faced with the option of killing one Indian to save nineteen
(Williams 1973: 98 99). Utilitarianism obviously states that he should do so on the
basis that he would increase utility by saving nineteen lives (Williams 1973: 99).
The problem with this for Williams is not the outcome of the Utilitarian
prescription but the lack of consideration it gives to Jim s personal point of view
(1973: 99). We can imagine that Jim s very identity might include principles of
nonviolence which he has committed to, or perhaps he is in South America to do
relief work with Indigenous communities and so the act of killing one of the people
he came to help is abhorrent to him. Though Williams (1973: 117) admits that, even
when Jim s commitments are accounted for, the right act still seems to be that Jim
should kill the one to save the many, the point he is making against Utilitarianism is
not that it fails in a particular case to come up with the correct normative directive,
but that it fails to give appropriate weighting to an agent s
18. Social Class Is An Ongoing Problem
Social class is an ongoing problem in education, especially for those living on the
lower end of the divide. More than one in five of Scotland s children are living in
poverty. In this essay I will consider why social class is an ongoing problem, its
influence on wellbeing and achievement, and propose ways in which we can attempt
to combat these issues. This will be accomplished with reference to concepts, theories
and the scenarios detailed in appendix A, B and C.
According to Bourdieu s highly influential theory of cultural reproduction, children
from middle class families are more advantaged in gaining qualifications due to their
possession of cultural capital (Lamont Lareau, 2011). Cultural capital can be defined
as a deeply ingrained knowledge of society s high culture and taste, behaviours,
linguistic cues and the education system. Cultural reproduction refers to the
transmission of these aforementioned cultural values and norms between the
generations. This can only be produced by family upbringing in the home (Bourdieu
Passeron, 1990). This transition enormously influences children s success in school
and later in life (Sullivan, 2001). However the distribution of cultural capital is
severely inefficient (Bourdieu and Passeron, 1977). Sullivan (2001) applied
Bourdieu s theory and found that the working class lack the same cultural capital as
the middle class. His research suggests that although working class children can build
this knowledge, they will never

My experience at Borgne restaurant In life there are many experiences, good and
bad. Good experiences being those that we vaguely remember and usually forgot as

which impact and play a very important role in the life of every chef. No kitchenis
perfect, every kitchen is different. It takes time for you to find the perfect kitchen
and get used to the environment. Borgne was one of those bad experiences that I
will never forget. The first day I walked into Borgne, Chef David gave me the usual
tour of the kitchen and the typical introduction to the cooks and the front staff.
When I introduced myself as being a CIA student, one of the chefs laughed and
said ha no CIA student ever makes it in this kitchen . I responded trying to defend
the CIA s reputation by saying I m not one of those CIA students. And that s how it
all began. After the group meeting, I was given my black chef coat (which I hate
because you can see everything on them) and nothing else. I was then sent home and
told to be ready for the next day. I spent the entire day thinking about what chef said
to me and what it meant. What did they do wrong, and what I can do to be better than
them. Were they trying to intimidate me or were they just playing around. This
question was brought up multiple times throughout my experience. Next morning I
woke up 3 hours early to figure out the bus system. I was late that day due to

Crane Safety
Cranes are mainly used for lifting heavy things and transporting them to other
places. Cranes are restricted from operating within 10 feet of any electrical power
line to ovoid collision. Many crane fatalities occur when the boom of a crane or its
load line contact an overhead power line. Load capacities, operating speed and
instructions are posted and are visible to the operator of the crane for reference.
Crane machinery and also other rigging equipment are inspected daily before using
it to make sure that it is in good condition. Guardrails, hand holds and steps are
provided for safe and easy access to and from all areas of the crane. Only properly
trained and qualified operators are allowed to work with hoisting and rigging
equipment.

Here s Where the Story Ends Fables and myths constitute the foundation of nearly
every culture, and are passed down through generations, never losing their meaning
and allure. Many factors make a story special, including its plot, essence, and
characters, but only the storyteller holds within themselves the potential to deliver a
narration that will inspire their audience and leave a lasting mark. In a quaint
example of metafiction, many novels have been published with a central theme of
storytelling. Two such examples following this concept is The Canterbury Tales,
written by Geoffrey Chaucer in 1478, and Frankenstein, written by Mary Shelley
1818. Three characters in The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Have I not suffered enough, that you seek to increase my misery... Everywhere I
see bliss, from which I alone am irrevocably excluded (Shelley 68 69). The Wife of
Bath and The Monster quickly intrigue their respective audiences by flooding them
with emotion. The Wife of Bath shares her negative views on marriage, while The
Monster prepares to tell his heartbreaking story. By expressing their emotions, both
narrators are able to share their beliefs and views, impacting their listeners. This is
just one power of storytelling, where an outpour of emotions can be so powerful
moving, having a profound effect on the audience. In addition, by articulating their
emotions, the storytellers give the crowd an opportunity to enter their own minds,
further allowing the audience to experience the story from the eyes of the narrator.
Another critical facet in storytelling lies in parables, which carry moral lessons. In
his fable, the Pardoner imparts a crucial message of the destructiveness of greed. In
his prologue, the Pardoner makes his explanation very clear: But let me briefly
make my purpose plain / I preach for nothing but for the greed of gain / And use the
same old text, as bold as brass / Radix malorum est cupiditas (Chaucer 243).
Providing another meaningful anecdote is The Monster, who explains how love is a
powerful emotion that can get one through loneliness and isolation. The Monster
makes clear his message of requiring a companion: If I cannot inspire

Professional hockey players eat, sleep, and breathe the game. This passion breeds
a rare type of diehard fan to follow the sport. The game of hockey is over 100 years
old and fighting is one element that has kept players engaged and fans hooked
throughout the years. The first indoor hockey game was played in 1875 and the
NHL was formed 42 years later in 1917. In 1922, fighting was added to the rule
book as a regulated aspect of the game. Looking at the history of hockey shines a
light on the players and fans passion for the game. Hockey fights should stay in the

In the event that a player makes a dirty hit on a skilled player, the enforcer s role is
to send a message to the other team. For fear that a skilled player will be hurt and
unable to play, an enforcer will take matters into his own hands. As a result, skilled
players feel protected and can do their job of scoring goals more effectively. All
things considered, fighters are there for protection, not violence. Fighting as part
of the game reduces injuries drastically. At the present time, fighting in the NHL is
being heavily debated and there are two very different sides to the argument. In
the meantime, with the stricter regulations against fighting, NHL injuries are at an
all time high. My coach, Kelly Chase a retired NHL enforcer says that with
concussions being such a focus in sports, only 2% of the ones in the NHL are
caused by fights. The other 98% are caused by dirty hits. In the background of the

Summary
Preferential Option for the Poor and the Vulnerable
Gustavo Gutierrez is a Peruvian theologian that speaks for the rights for the poor
and vulnerable. He currently lives in Lima, Peru and is eighty six years old.
Gustavo Gutierrez, published a book in 1971 called A Theology of Liberation that
teaches, about the renewed realization of Christ s presence among the poor and
oppressed (Dean 28 April 2015). In his book, Gutierrez discusses the differences
between material poverty, voluntary poverty, and spiritual poverty. When you
experience material poverty, you are deprived of the essential items for life or
discriminated because of race, gender, or religion. The spiritually poor trust in a God

Adrianne Jauregui Homework Assig. #1 12/01/2014 Bill of Rights The protection
and civil rights for the individual citizen is documented as the Bill of Rights. Today,
the two most important of are The English Bill of Rights of 1689 and The United
States Bill of Rights of 1791. These two have the many of the same overlapping
principles including, limiting the powers of the government and to providing people
with individual liberties. Although they are both fundamental documents, both
countries differed in form and purpose. The U.S enacted a formal statement of
Fundamental rights of the people of the United States and integrated it into the
Constitution as Amendments. It is used to address the liberties of individual citizens
and keep the government from exceeding their boundaries for potential abuse. In
contrast, the English Bill was enacted by the English Parliament, which was a
reinstatement in statutory form of The Declaration of Right. It was to confront issues
of relation to the king rather than parliamentary authority. Essentially, these two
formed a new democratic government that changed everything. In detail, The United
States established a collective name for the ten amendments to the Constitution, the
Bill of rights. However, the English adopted an act unlike the U.S. and most countries
that have a constitution. England has no codified constitution meaningm a single
document with key provisions. They have some written documents developed from

After finished completing this assignment, our understanding about the Brunauer

run the Brunauer Emmett Teller (BET) instrument and more efficient in handling
the calculation involving the graph . However , the specific surface area for our
sample might low than the expected due to some possible error that might occur.
The first possible error might be due to the wrong de gassed temperature for the
sample. Before the sample been analysed, it have to go through the out gassing or
de gassing. The purpose of de gassing is to remove gases and vapours that may
have become physically adsorbed onto the surface after manufacture and during
treatment, handling and storage. However, if de gassing not achievable, the
specific surface area may be reduced or may be variable because an intermediate
area of the surface is covered with molecules of the previously adsorbed gases or
vapours. Thus, the de gassing is an important technique that need to take account
before analysing any sample. In our case, we accidentally put lower de gassing

Throughout Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky, Eastern versus Western
ideas are constantly being introduced and in turn debated, sometimes violently.
This being the case, it would be uncharacteristic of Dostoevsky to include such an
extensive account, The Grand Inquisitor, against Christ and there not to be an East
versus West theme. Eastern versus Western may be understood as Orthodox
versus Roman Catholic although it is not to be restricted only within the scope of
religious debates. The differences between the two are prevalent in other areas of
life including: the self and social life. These topics will be discussed directly, and
the foundation of each manifest themselves in multiple ways; although sublet their
importance must be noted. The focus of this essay is to explore why Ivan s
inquisitor was wrong. As in many religious debates, especially concerning the
Bible, differences often come subtly and may end in agreeing to disagree; although
there must be a correct way of thinking. These subtle differences are somewhat
regularly opposing beliefs concerning one word or only a few words. Yet, these
differing beliefs in words and what they mean to each believer may seem
insignificant to the untrained eye. But they come to define religions and societies, set
ground for debates and wars, and, in the case of the Karamazov s, split blood.
Although Ivan s Grand Inquisitor formulates a compelling argument against the
actions of Christ condemning Him for allowing

It s all over the news. At least, it s all over the sports news. There is even a movie
that is entirely about this one injury. The invisible injury. An injury that can present
itself as simple headaches to nausea to dizziness to complete loss of consciousness.
Something that is described as a bruise to the brain caused by a bump or a blow to
the head has become an athlete s worst nightmare: a concussion(What). Concussions
are becoming more and more commonplace in today s world. Some say it is
because of the aggression of play, especially in hockey and football. Others will
argue that an increase in the recognition and reporting may be primarily responsible
for the increase in incidence since 1997 (Minigh 42). With the increase in concussions
in the sports world today, it is imperative that sports medicine physicians and athletic
trainers have a standardized way to diagnose and treat traumatic brain injuries.
Providers believe standardization is important because it will help teach upcoming
physicians how to go about treating concussions generally, as well as giving patients
an idea of what to expect from their treatment. This is where technology gets put in
the game. With advancements in technology, sports medicine professionals can more
successfully diagnose, treat, and hopefully prevent concussions. The prevention of
concussions is the hope for the future of medical technology, as studies have shown
that once a person suffers from one concussion, they are about four

The Advent of Penicillin
The advent of penicillin forever changed the world of medicine at its discovery with
its ability to treat diseases, deadly at the time, that are now considered commonplace
and easily treatable. Penicillin was one of the greatest discoveries of the twentieth
century, as antibiotics are one of the most highly prescribed drugs in the world today.
Although its discovery is often described as serendipitous, the process by which it
was cultivated was quite meticulous, and continued attention has been paid to
penicillin s further development. It is because penicillin and its derivatives have
played such a vital role in everyday medicine that it is such an important topic.

During this time, however, Fleming did meet with Howard Florey, who would
later take on a vital role in the development of penicillin. By the mid 1930s, the
advent of sulfa drugs essentially ended all of Fleming s research on penicillin.
However, during this time period, Howard Florey had begun research on
lysozymes, and took special interest in antibiotics in 1938 after reading Fleming s
original paper. Ernst Chain, working in Florey s lab, carried out many of the initial
experiments in lab mice, all highly successful in treating infections of streptococcus
bacterium. Human tests soon thereafter, also proved penicillin to be highly
effective, even in cases in which sulfa drugs had failed. However, production of the
drug was still a problem, and trials could not be conducted on a large scale. By this
time it was 1941, and although penicillin s benefits had proven, culture mediums
were still only yielding one part per million penicillin. With Word War II raging, and
resources becoming scarce, Florey negotiated with the Rockefeller Foundation of the
United States to move himself and a colleague to the United States in order for him to
continue his research. This project would gain added momentum when the United
States entered the war, with the development of penicillin becoming a war project.
Shortly thereafter, it was determined that Fleming s original

Wars existed in ancient time, and are still somewhere in the world. Questions like,
how people fight, where it is, what is going on, and who wins last may catch
curiosity of public. Therefore, journalism on battlefield is definitely important for
both people who care about the war and military who want to build their images in
society. In this essay, it will mainly focus on warnews in modern times, and this
would give a simple definition about what is embedded journalism, which will
include general description of embedded journalists, such as what courses should
they get, and how they collect information on warfare. Then it looks at a brief

In The Old Man and the Sea, an old man named Santiago has achieved true

37. Salad Bowl Analysis
The immigration is always an important issue throughout the history of the United
States. The government is struggling to assist the diversity of cultures and ethnic
groups because immigrants continuously bring their traditions into America. This
raised the metaphor melting pot and salad bowl, which described the term of
assimilation and integration of the many different cultures in America. Today, the
United Statessociety no longer matches the melting potmetaphor; it shifts to salad
bowl metaphor. This concept is different from the notion of the melting pot. The
salad bowl means that the immigrants keep their unique customs and cultures, the
integration degree of immigrant merge into the American community, and the youth
immigrant generations recognize their heritage of origin culturein the mainstream of
American culture. For these reasons, the salad bowl metaphor would be more
appropriate to America society these days.
The term melting pot was generally used in the United States after it was used as a
metaphor for describing an association of cultures and ethnicities in 1908. Many
different types of people blend together as one in a society. America is always a
nation of immigration, based on the history element of the country. The generations
of immigrants have mixed together. They have refused their origin traditions and
cultures to become totally assimilated into American society. That was why
American citizen considered United States was a melting pot. In contrast to the
soup bowl theory, there is the emergence of salad bowl metaphor. It asserts that the
integration of the many different cultures of the United States people combines like
a big salad bowl. It means many cultures, languages, and ethic co exist in peaceful,
like all kinds of ingredients in a bowl of salad. It mixes together, but it does not
dissolve into one.
Although the melting pot theory seems to be outdated in American society today,
however, there are still a lot of conservatives to favor their views on this metaphor.
They think the fusing of different ethnic group is essential for building a cohesive
society. Immigrants should give up their origin tradition national identity, and they try
to entirely assimilate

correctly, by comparing his speech to great broadcasters who are anything but great
leaders. The pressure that comes from Albert s father, King George V, results in more
frustration for the both of them, without either of them realising that to lead a
country into greatness depends more on just speaking well. Throughout the film,
there had been ideal speechmodels like Hitler, David, and King George V, shown in
order to compare their speech to Albert s and to show what a great speaker has to

models turned out to be egocentric individuals and the least egotistical leader,
Albert, is the one with the impaired speech. I argue that in The King s Speech , the
characters who serve as models of ideal speech are figures of oppression, therefore
the author is implying that the idea of having ideal speech does not live up to it s
praise.
Oppressive leaders like Hitler have used public speaking in order to bring
destruction to the world like war. In the scene when the royal family is watching
him on the projector, Hitler is controlling a mass army while speaking with a
powerful tone in a fast and concise pace. Hitler s body language also represents the
intensity of his message to his country by pointing his fingers vigorously. The
40. Placebo Cure
As per the Merriam Webster dictionary, a cure is defined as, something (such as a
drug or medical treatment) that stops a disease and makes someone healthy again;
something that ends a problem or improves a bad situation (Merriam Webster s,
2014). The study of science and philosophy are trying to work together so that we
may answer the difficult questions that we have surrounding the world in which we
live in. Scientific experiments are often conducted so that results may be obtained.
These results often verify or disprove a scientific hypothesis; philosophers on the
other hand are more concerned about what the view of the world should be. A
placebo is a pill, treatment, procedure or medicine used in place of a real treatment,
the patient ends up having a psychological effect than a physiological one. In science
and according to a philosophical view where does a placebo fit in? And whether it
can really exist as a cure. For the purpose of this paper I will discuss placebos as a
cure and discuss the realist and antirealist views about the observable and
unobservable phenomena. The mind is a very powerful force that can make heaven
or hell out of life. It... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, anti realists hold that the aim of science is to provide a true
explanation of a certain part of the world, which is what can be observed (Okasha,
2002). A pro realist would argue that both observable phenomenon and theories are
true descriptions of what is represented in the world, whereas an anti realist would
say that only the observable phenomenon are true, and theories are neither true of
false (Okasha, 2002). It is important to note that both views; the realist one and the
anti realist one accept the reality of the world. The difference between them has to do
with the position of where scientific theories are.
41. Robison Wells Variant Quotes
Variant is an action filled, suspenseful and shocking novel written by the American
novelist, Robison Wells. The book is about a foster child named Benson Fisher, who
applies to Maxfield Academy in hopes to live a normal life. Unfortunately, Maxfield
turns out to be far from normal. He, along with the other seventy students are trapped
in a school, with no teachers, adults, or any sort of authority. The students run the
school, with the help of Iceman who was only ever seen and heard on a television
screen, he gave out the punishments. The school has four rules, and when they are
broken, students get punishments, such as no food for days at a time, getting locked
outside and detention, which allegedly meant death. Throughout Benson s stay at
Maxfield, he learned a lot about the things around him, including himself. The novel
teaches readers to make strategic decisions to ensure success. Benson himself does
this by forming relationships with the right people, taking on specific tasks to get
access to certain areas, and coming up with a thorough plan to escape.... Show more

However, he unknowingly managed to be friendly to the right people, which then
helped him significantly throughout the book. If one is trying to ease their way
through a sticky situation, one of the best solutions is to find people who have a
similar mindset. Benson then used that to his advantage. Coincidently, there were
three gangs Benson had to choose from, which was The Society , Havoc and The
V s . As stated in the novel, He said he didn t want to join Havoc or the Society, that
means he is in The V s (Wells 45). In our world today, it
42. Donald Trump s Populist Movement
In order to better appreciate Trump s surprise victory in the 2016 Presidential
election, we must first understand the populist impulse among the American citizens.
The word populist is regularly applied to president Donald Trump. It is because his
politics, and policy, tend to be crude and crowd pleasing and because he built a
political base on division and resentment. The term Populist dates to the late
nineteenth century. Populists view themselves as the champions of ordinary people
and pit the people against corrupt elites. They are angry at a corrupt establishment
and government s indifference and unresponsive. In the contemporary society,
Americans populist impulse can be reflected from several aspects. Firstly, the

43. Cultural Aspects Of Sexy Salsa Dance
As different groups of people move from one geographic location to another, they
bring various aspects of their heritage with them, including the dance forms
characteristic of their culture. While in a new location, these cultural aspects can
serve to unify people of a common ethnicity, giving them a physical expression of
their collective identity. On the other hand, when a minority group of people
practices its danceforms in a new geographic location, dominant groups of people
often adopt them. Failing to understand the social significance and original
meanings of such dances, the majority group appropriates several aspects of the
dance forms while changing other aspects in order to make them fit better within
its cultural ideologies. In this way, cultural appropriation of dance forms dissolves
some of their original cultural meanings, as is exemplified by the transmission of
salsa dance from a Latin American social dance to a Western ballroom dance,
changing its nature from an expression of cultural unity to an exotic experience.
Performed primarily in social dance clubs, salsa is a fluid and dynamic dance. The
movement of the dancers originates from their hips, which move constantly
throughout the dance (Sexy Salsa Dancing). This in turn leads to the dancers having
a dynamic and flexible spine, weight shifts propelled by core body movement often
resulting in weight suspended between the feet, [and] flexed knees and a lower
center of gravity (Malnig 304). The

46. Informative Essay On Fennec Fox
If you are interested in purchasing a pet that is a bit different from the norm, but
you are a lover of canines, you might want to consider getting a fennec fox. The
fennec fox, which is also know as a desert fox, is a small canine that typically
weighs only 2 to 3.5 pounds as an adult. Although there aren t too many people out
there who own a fennec fox, they can make great pets if you take the proper
precautions.
Getting to Know the Fennec Fox
As a member of the canine family, the fennec fox acts much like domesticated dogs
that are kept as pets. At the same time, it is important to remember that this type of
canine has not been truly domesticated. Therefore, you will need to take special
steps to socialize your fennec fox as well as to guard against allowing it to escape.
As may be expected, the fennec fox is a very active and quick canine. In addition,
they tend to be quite agile. In the wild, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

For example, the diet of a fennec fox is a bit different from the typical pet dog. In the
wild, these creatures prefer a diet that consists of rodents, insects, fruit, plants and
reptiles. Therefore, the ideal food for your pet would be a commercial canned diet
that is specifically prepared for wild animals. Many owners, however, choose to feed
their foxes a mixture of dog food, cat food, fruit and vegetables while others prefer
to feed a mix of raw meat, vegetables and vitamins.
Like a cat, it is possible to litter train a fennec fox, though some people seem to find
the process to be easier than others. Therefore, whether or not you attempt to litter
train your fox or to simply take it outside to use the bathroom is a personal decision
for you to make. Either way, you need to be certain to give your fox plenty of
opportunities for running around outdoors, as they are very active animals that need
an outlet for all of their excess
47. Analysis Of Dion Boucicault s The Octoroon
Because the dated and white biased perspective in Dion Boucicault s The Octoroon
does not hold up to modern conceptions of race in America, the play only remains
useful for historical examination; Branden Jacobs Jenkins, in his adaptation of the
work, An Octoroon, examines the historical implications presented in Boucicault s
original work and transforms the story into one more appropriate for the modern era.
Boucicault offers his perspective in The Octoroon from a distance, choosing to weave
his message through the action of the play. Zoe s text, specifically, provides ample
context in which Boucicault can introduce the audience to his then counterculture,
abolitionist morality. Zoe reveals his stance on illegitimate slave children, for ... Show

The distinction of race in the very first line of the play indicates Branden Jacobs
Jenkins (behind the persona of BJJ) seeks to expose his own experience as a Black
man through the context of The Octoroon. Through BJJ, we learn that Jacobs
Jenkins admires Boucicault and his work, but notes that no one cares about
[Boucicault] anymore. He s dead (8). Immediately, An Octoroon begins to examine
the role of Boucicault in his work and his role in the American theatrical canon at
large. The closeness to the audience in these moments contrast directly to Boucicault
s distance in The Octoroon; Jacobs Jenkins confides in the audience, as he says You
people are my therapy (9) directly to those watching the action on stage. His
confessions alert the audience to the work as a piece of theatre. Jacobs Jenkins work
does not attempt to erase theatricality, unlike Boucicault, who forsakes theatricality
for a constructed realism. Because the audience understands the story outside
suspension of reality, the text provides a better examination of The Octoroon through
modern eyes. As the narrative begins and the prologue closes, the audience possesses
an awareness of the original text through the eyes of BJJ. This places the story in a
context of critical study and examination from the inception of the adaptation and
affects all aspects of dramaturgy
48. Blue Plains Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant Essay
Background
Blue Plains Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant is the biggest advanced
wastewater treatment plant in the world, which covers 153 acres. The facility is
operated by District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authority (DC Water). It
provides wastewater collection and treatment services to more than 2 million
customers in Washington, USA. The treatment plant can treat up to 370 millions of
gallons per day in Maryland, the District, and Virginia suburbs, with a complete
treatment peak flow of 740 mgd, and an excess flow of 336 mgd (Eckert et al., 2010).
Blue Plains Advanced WastewaterTreatment Plant received awards from the
National Association of Clean Water Agencies for having a peak performance for
more than 10 sequential years. In the year 2003, the plant also received an
excellence in management award. In the previous years, the plant has successfully
upgraded and improved its liquid processing systems. There is little doubt that DC
water has been a champion of protection and restoring all their waterways.

49. The Military Events of the Meiji Restoration Essay
In this investigation I will look at the major historical and military events of the
transition of the Edo period to the Meiji Period and the Meiji Restoration and look at
how they relate to the freedom of Japanese people.
Japan during the periods of 1600 1868 A.D. was a land of seclusion, military power
and oppression. This was known as the Edo period. This however was one of the most
peaceful times in Japan s history. This peace was established through the military
powers of the Tokugawa Shogunate. This peace brought with it no real individual
freedoms. The supposed ruler of Japan the emperor was known as a du jure emperor,

The Black Ships (1853 56 A.D.)
During the rule of the Tokugawa Shogunate, there was a policy in place that cut ties
with any other countries. This policy was known as the Seclusion Policy. This policy
limited the amount of trade with other countries. This policy was still in place during
the arrival of the Black Ships. The Black Ships were a series of American gunships
with the intent on establishing diplomatic and trade ties between Japan and the
United States of America. This was an invitation delivered from the president of the
United States, Millard Fillmore, through Commodore Matthew Perry. After Perry had
delivered the message from the president, the ships left and promised to return in one
year s time. This ultimatum intimidated Japan. This started a negotiation that ended
the Seclusion policy. The document known as the Harry Treaty, negotiated by the
first U.S. consul, Townsend Harris, gave special provisions over the other nations
and started to end the Seclusion Policy. This treaty leads to further oppression of the
Japanese but not by their own government but the Western world. This will be
discussed later.
The Fall of the Tokugawa Shogunate (1867 A.D.)
This series of events began to undermine the Shogunate. The Japanese people began
to have a foreign influence that was intimidating. This intimidation was crucial as the
people were scared of the American forces that also returned a year later. This left

According to Britannica School, Poverty is the state of a person who lacks a
socially acceptable amount of money or material possession. Socially acceptable
may be described as lacking the means to satisfy one s basic needs. An average
working citizen may not realize what poverty is really like. As stated in a Youtube
interview by Scott Pelley, actually going into povertyand living it will open your
eyes to an America that you didn t know existed. Additionally, it is often seen that
poverty is a cycle. It passes over the generations because of the difficulties it takes to
break free from it. Poverty can be a cycle that passes from generation to generation,
but through two generation programs and education, it can be overcome. Often times,

In one example, a research report by National Human Services Assembly, called
Breaking the Cycle of Poverty in Young Families, explains what the two generation
approach is and its tactics. The two generation approach is an arrangement that
helps break the cycle by offering programs that focus on the development of
parents, their children, and the family as a whole. In this report, an exploratory
study of these two generation programs is explained. It is shown that the programs
work when you re engage parents in education and work, nurture parent child
bonds, improve children s well being, and connect families with economic, social,
and other supports. In the situations where these tactics were used, the results were
mostly successful (NHSA1,2). One of the most important aspects of this program
is focusing on the family as a whole, and how everyone in the family can be helped.
In another article, Can Poverty Be Passed Down?, a specific program is described.
This program, called Economic Mobility Pathways (EMPath) works with parents
and children to develop executive functioning skills. These are the skills that help
you maintain a stable economic state. EMPath helps parents and children navigate
their way out of poverty. They equip both generations to do better in schools and get
better jobs. One of the techniques the program uses is setting goals with the whole
family after talking about their challenges. When goals are reached, rewards and
incentives are given. The ultimate goal is to teach economic mobility. As a result,
most parents in the six month program took steps to become more self sufficient, and
the children achieved goals like better grades and saving money (Johnston2 6). If
more of these programs were spread throughout the country, poverty could majorly be
helped. Whole family poverty situations could be solved.

Darwin once hypothesized that humans evolved from an ape like ancestor and that
those ancestors most likely originated in Africa since the majority of the great apes

people (e.g. Europeans) not liking of having African ancestors not to mention the lack
of evidence did not help in supporting such hypothesis. Thus, finding the missing link
between apes and humans was of great important it still is. Thankfully, through
