Paracharacterism In The Bell Jar
Sylvia Plath s Bell Jar was composed as a semi auto biographical novel yet it dealt with many of the
contemporary issues of the time such as women emancipation in a psychological sphere. Plath s actual
psyche is reflected in her work which she struggled to continue as a female writer. As an American
writer she faced plentyof criticism which over powered her mental faculty as a clinically depressed
author. Sadly, she ended her life shortly after finishing this novel and her prolific writing career was
cut short. Plath was presented with many obstacles after her traumatic break down which was
mirrored in her work which depicted a sense of imprisonment and looming death, overshadowing any
scope for personal freedom. The novel was partly based ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She visualizes that each fig represents a different set of opportunities: One fig was a husband and
children, and another fig was a famous poet...and another fig was Europe and Africa and South
America... . She can only choose one fig, but because she is reluctant to choose between them, she
becomes paralyzed, unable to choose any, and the figs rot and fall to the ground. The fig tree turns out
to symbolize Esther s choices in life. Each fig represents a different future, and hence stands out as a
critique of the female entrapment advocated in the fifties, where combining professions with
motherhood proved difficult if not impossible. In the novel this is related to Esther s combating
choices in life: career versus motherhood, sexuality versus purity and conventionality versus political
and ideological awareness. The fig tree fable could be interpreted as a metaphor on the bildungsroman
as it represents universal choices for adolescent characters like Esther Greenwood. Choices that Ethel
Rosenberg s had were much narrower. It can be argued that in her opinion, she only had wo role to
choose from, that by nature were poles apart, the roles being that of the loyal and dedicated woman
who is the wife and mother of two little boys and that of a communist radical. However , due to her
disinclination to give away the trial, she can

The Responses Of Animals And Plants
Viruses are biological agents that are extremely small and highly infectious. It possesses the ability in
infecting all cell types, from complex eukaryotes such as plants and animals, to microorganisms
including archaea and bacteria. [1] However, it could only rely on infecting a host cell for viral
replication, which when infecting a host cell it incorporates its genetic materials into the host cell
DNA and uses the host s cellular component for replication, such that the cell produces viral proteins
and genetic materials for assembling new viron instead of its usual products. [2]
Upon viral infection, a series of immune responses will be provoked in the host cell, which these
responses may vary in different life forms. The aim of this essay is to explore the antiviral responses
in animals and plants; comparing the responses mechanisms that are common in both parties, as well
as investigating their relative unique responses.
Introduction Viral infection in plants and animals
Some viruses could only infect certain or several species, while others is capable of infecting many.
The range of different types of cells that a virus could infect is regarded as its host range. Plant viruses
has a narrower host range such that they only replicate in living plant cells and fails to infect animal
cells. [3] On the other hand, while some animal viruses are known to be species specific, such as
smallpox virus that could only infect humans; there are also viruses that has a board host

Personal Action Plan
Personal Action Plan for the Department of Special Education
Currently, the curriculum implemented throughout Farmington Municipal Schools District for the
multiply impaired special education programs fails to effectively equip students in the area of life
skills and other areas of development such as sensory, fine motor and gross motor. It relies heavily on
worksheets, which focus on the subjects of math and reading. While basic math problems and phonics
and phonemic awareness are essential to a student s academic development, such skills cannot be
mastered by students severely disabled and there is nothing offered in the curriculum for students who
are blind, autistic or suffering from a severe neurological disorder (Comprehensive Curriculum, ...

Shared reading, for example, is an integral part of an instructional routine in which the students and
teacher interact. In other words, it does not require the use of a student s hand to use a pencil or
crayon. Instead, every student would be able to share the reading of a text with the support of the
teacher. The teacher would read aloud using vocal expression while students follow along either by
listening or following along while holding a book (Comprehensive Curriculum, 2015). While a
supplemental curriculum would need to be designed in order to meet the needs of every student within
a special education room, there may be some resistance from the district, as they prefer all teachers to
use a universal curriculum and not individualize it. However, due to the fact that not all students have
the same disability or limitations, they cannot be expected to participate in a universal curriculum, as
it will be limited in its ability to accommodate for every student s individual needs (An Introduction,

Nike Supplier Relationship
Forecasting in the fashion industry is usually a complicated due to the fact that it s characterized by
high demand, short product life cycles and different varieties of product lines. Consequently,
managing customer demand tends to be difficult, for organizations have to avoid large volumes of
stock. In this industry, there s intense competition and consumers are price conscious; accordingly,
these factors have slowed the growth of this industry. As a result, this made it difficult for the
companies to create brands which can offer high quality products with cheap prices (Fernino et al.,
2012). Nike is one of the most popular brands throughout the whole world and the world s leading
supplier. The company designs, develops and markets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Positive Effects Of Dental Implantation
Smoking cigarettes has a negative effect on a patient s oral health. A patient who smokes is twice more
likely to develop periodontal disease than a non smoker (Center for Disease Control and Prevention,
2015). For patients who have lost teeth, dental implant can be a great solution. Dental implants are
pure titanium cylindrical posts which are placed in the maxilla or mandible on patients to replace
missing teeth. As healing occurs, a successful dental implant will osseointegrate into the patient s bone
creating a strong foundations for the replacement of teeth. With any surgical procedure there are risk
factors. Cigarette smoking may affect healing, therefore jeopardizing the success rate of dental
implantation. Studies have shown a direct ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dental implants are an excellent long term option for patients in good health who have lost teeth. A
prospective study published in the International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Implants reviewed
two hundred and twenty three Branemark dental implants placed in seventy eight patients by the same
surgeon. The study showed that patients who followed the smoking cessation protocol had a
significantly higher success rate of osseointegration than that of patient who smoked during the early
stages of dental implant placement. Smoking has been shown to compromise a patient s healing
potential after the initial implant placement (Williams, 1994). According to a study published in the
International Journal of Oral Implantology, there is a direct relationship between patient who smoke
and the failure rates of dental implants. The study conducted evaluated two thousand one hundred and
ninety four Nobel implants. The implants were placed by one surgeon on five hundred and forty
patients over a six year period. The study showed an 11.28% failure rate of the Nobel dental implant
osseointegration on smoking patients, as opposed to 4.76% failure rate on nonsmoking patients (Bain,

The Persian Gulf War And The Arab War
Persian Gulf War A brief history of the middle east and the nation of Iraq prior to the Persian Gulf War
will help explain why the Persian Gulf War was viewed as necessary by the allied countries. The
formation of a coalition of countries, the use of innovative military equipment, and strategic military
operations helped the allied forces secure victory in the Persian Gulf War. The effects of this victory
and subsequent conflict have changed our world as we know it. The Persian Gulf is one of the oldest
known trade routes in the world. Conflict is a major issue in that region also. Oil is a part of the reason
there is conflict. Great Britain used to control Iraq because of the oil in the nation. Iraq has been a
nation with copious amounts of border conflicts and wars. Saddam Hussein, who supported the Ba
athist party, assumed the role of president of Iraq in 1979. In September 1980, Saddam Hussein
ordered his troops into Iran oil fields, thus starting the Iraq Iran war; another Iraqi conflict; in which
Saddam Hussein was fighting Iranian leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, a Shīʿite who disliked
Saddam Hussein. ( Saddam Hussein ) Saddam Hussein could be classified as brutal leader, as he
warred against the ethnic groups the Kurds, and the Shīʿites. He used biological and chemical
weapons while fighting, and continued to build up his military. ( Saddam Hussein ) In 1990, he
accused Kuwait of drilling Iraq s crude oil. Hussein also blamed Kuwait and other surrounding

The Purpose Of A Case Study
Media research indicates that journalistic standards and practices are socially constructed systems,
which deal with complex work processes by organising news flow and explicating roles and
competencies (Tuchman 1978; Fishman 1980). The case study method is regarded as a valid tool to
analyse a complex issue. A case study is defined as an empirical inquiry that investigates a
contemporary phenomenon within its real life context (Yin 2003: 13). It is best used to understand
complex social and organisational issues. Case study evidence to answer research questions and
contribute to theory development originates from a variety of sources, such as documentation, archival
records, interviews (qualitative or quantitative) and observation. In this ... Show more content on

The second is that it is not easily open to generalisation but if it is contextualised and carefully
described then others can consider its usefulness in other contexts and examples (Wisker 2001:191).
Finally, Dominick and Wimmer argue that case studies are likely to be time consuming and may
occasionally produce massive quantities of data that are hard to summarise (1987: 165). With regard
to this study, I would like to argue that the strengths of observations outweigh the weaknesses. In
addition, there is simply no other method that applies better to what I want to investigate. The findings
are not representative of all newsrooms experimenting with convergence since the research is derived
from one case. Therefore I do not wish to generalise any findings from this case study. I tried to
provide readers with good raw material for their own generalising because the reader can make his or
her own generalisations and interpret it their way (Stake, 1995:102). However, the findings will offer
insights that could be probed for future

Keats And Finch And The Nightingale
In literature, it is generally agreed that The Nightingale invites the beholder to explore something
beyond the merely human . Both Keats and Finch imitate this concept in Ode to a Nightingale and To
the Nightingale by using poetic form and language to show the qualities of a bird that inspires them to
look beyond the physical and in Finch s case, challenge the confines of human restriction whilst
asserting poetry as a human necessity.
Keats was a key figure in the Romantic era in the first part of the 17th century which, according to
René Wellek s classic definition, sought to substitute imagination for the view of poetry, nature for the
view of the world, and symbol and myth for poetic style. Therefore, Keats Ode to a Nightingale ,
written in 1819, has an affiliation with the natural world, through both the metaphors he uses and his
meter and rhyme. The fact that the poem is an Ode to a nightingale shows that Keats is addressing the
bird in particular and therefore it asserts the link that is found in Romanticism between humans and
the natural world. M. H. Abrams states that Keats wrote this poem, whilst reminiscent of a Horation
Ode, as what came to be known as a Romantic Meditative Ode which is the personal ode of
description and passionate meditation . It is clear here that what Keats is passionate about in this poem
is the country green . Keats coined the term negative capability to describe passionate mediation in a

Moon Landings Essay I think the moon landing was real because evidence that I have found makes
me believe that it was real . One thing that makes me believe it was real is that the U.S was in a race
with another country of who would make it to the moon first and Why? would the fake going to the
moon because I know as a competitive person I wouldn t want to lose and I wouldn t fake it because I
would embarrass myself and look dumb and also embarrass my entire country . My opinion is I think
it s real because when Apollo 11 launched countries all over the globe tracked them to the moon and if

Ben Carson Writing Prompts
Ben Carson made things easier in his life by a formula called THINK BIG. Each one of those letters

that stood out to me were H for honesty, N for nice, and K for knowledge. The first important letter
was H. If everybody had honesty, then the world would be so much better. Honesty can help achieve
goals in many different ways. One way is if you tell people what happened and not lie about it then
maybe they could not be mad and help you. I can use this in my life to make my home life easier by
not lying to my mom or sister. Honesty makes you a better person. It will help you achieve goals faster

Distinguishing Factors In The Other Wes Moore
Distinguishing Factors
One of the great things about the The other Wes Moore is the simple retelling of two completely
different lives. It is interesting how Moore does not advise but rather hopes that each person will
develop their own idea and construct about what the moral of the story may be. And furthermore about
how it applies to an individual s life.
The story starts with the question of what if? That question starts the reader off in a state of mind to
question the turning point for each person. There are many key ideas that led two children of similar
background to completely different lives. The main cause for both Wes Moore s would arguably be the
families in which each character was surrounded by. And it is actually that idea that shows that they
did not begin with the same background at all. Each boy had a family and heritage that they grew up
with that influenced their train of thought and behaviors. Moore, the writer of the book seemed to be
(later on) thankful to his parents for the comforts that they gave up that led him to his success today.

Digital Estate Research Paper
Unlike 20 years ago, a large portion of an average person s life is done online. If you re like most
people, you have an accumulation of digital assets, which can include everything from photos, videos
to checking accounts.
If you fail to leave your loved ones a complete documentation of your digital possessions, they can be
lost in cyberspace. If you re worried about your digital assets after you re gone, here are some
guidelines for ensuring they continue.
What s Included in a Digital Estate
A digital estate entails all your accounts that are accessed through a computer. This typically includes:
All email accounts This includes incoming, sent and stored email messages from all computers,
laptops, Ipads, cell phones and other internet devices.
Social media accounts such as Twitter, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s tempting to select a close relative or friend to hand over your personal data once you re gone.
However, if you do this, just be sure he or she is qualified to handle the technical facets of all types of
digital assets.
One of the most qualities to look for when choosing a digital executor director is someone who s
detail oriented and exceptionally organized. Your digital executor should be highly tech savvy and not
afraid to use the internet.
He or she should also be dedicated to carrying out all your wishes, as well as be a patient person
because dealing with various internet companies can entail a considerable amount of time. Also, a
digital executor should be able to communicate and work well with other people.
Considerations and Warnings
Even if you leave behind all your passwords for your internet accounts, most heirs will still be
frustrated because they can still lack the power or authority for managing your online accounts once

Virtual Museum Of Japanese Arts
History The island nation of Japan, according to Virtual Museum of Japanese Arts (2016), has a rich
history that largely alternates between times of imperial and military control. The Jomon period,
which started in 10,000 BC, is the earliest instance of culture in Japan. This period transitioned into
the Yayoi period (300 BC), which, according to Columbia University s Dr. Heinrich (2009), featured a
more advanced agricultural society. Virtual Museum of Japanese Arts (2016) continues to describe the
Kofu period (300 710 AD), during which ancestors of the current Japanese imperial family founded
Japan s first unified state under the Yamato Court, and Buddhism was introduced in 552 AD. Japan s
first capital was established in Nara during the Nara Period (710 794 AD), and moved to Kyoto during
the Heian Period (794 1185 AD) when noble families started ruling in the emperor s name. During this
period, Japan s then Chinese dominated culture was replaced by an indigenous one (Virtual Museum
of Japanese Arts, 2016) described as a great flowering of classical Japanese culture (Heinrich, 2009,
para. 6) The Kamakura Period (1185 1333 AD) saw the imperial court overthrown by the the
Minamoto family, who started the Kamakura Shogunate era of rule that resulted in a vigorous, realistic
artistic style representative of the warrior spirit (Virtual Museum of Japanese Arts, 2016, para. 5). The

The Tragedy Of A Disaster
Disaster is seen by most as a circumstance or occasion that outcomes in misfortune and mishap. In
cutting edge society, it isn t uncommon to hear people name something as inconsequential as breaking
their telephone screen a disaster. Be that as it may, disaster is more intricate. Aristotle rethinks
catastrophe through the lense of dramatization as the impersonation of an activity that is not kidding
furthermore, as having greatness, finish in itself; in fitting and pleasurable language;... in a sensational
as opposed to account shape; with occurrences exciting compassion and dread, wherewith to achieve a
purge of these feelings. Through the eyes of Aristotle, a catastrophe incorporates occasions in a play
that would bring about pathetic emotions towards the primary character, or shocking saint, to emerge
inside the group of onlookers individuals. Not just ought to the gathering of people feel a feeling of
pity, yet they ought to feel a feeling of dread amid the movement of the play for the deplorable saint
since they can suspect the sad legend s destruction before the anagnorisis. There is a typical conviction
that legends come in capes, can accomplish the unachievable, and are faultless. Aristotle challenges
that conviction with the terrible legend. To him, a lamentable saint is thought to be a person whose
difficulty emerges, not through bad habit or evil but rather by some mistake of judgment. The
heartbreaking legend is portrayed as moral and upright yet not

How Does The Namesake Show Cultural Identity

shared the same cultural beliefs and norms your whole life, or whether you are born in one country

Concentration Of Acid-Base Titration
Acid Base titration is defined as using a solution of known concentration and volume to find the
concentration of a solution with known volume but unknown concentration. Acid Base titration can be
used when mixing strong acids and strong bases because strong acids and bases neutralize each other.
Phenolphthalein indicators, substances that change color based on pH, can be used to determine when
the titration is complete and when both of the solutions are neutralized. In this experiment, Acid Base
titration will be used to determine the concentration of 10mL of an HCl solution by adding a known
volume 0.1003 M NaOH solution using a buret. The chemical equation for this reaction is
NaOH(aq)+HCl(aq) → NaCl(aq)+H2O(l). Because the moles of NaOH equals the moles of HCl, the
number of moles of NaOH that are added to the solution in order to neutralize it will equal the moles
of HCl in the solution. The number of moles of NaOH added to the solution will be used to determine
the moles of HCl, which will then be used to determine the molarity of the HCl solution by dividing
the number of moles of HCl by the volume of HCl, according to the formula:
Moles/Volume=Molarity.
Results
The average HCl molarity was found to be 0.090 M. Our actual values were 0.091, 0.091, and 0.089.
These molarities were found according to the formula mass/volume=molarity. For example, 0.089 was
found by dividing the moles of NaOH added to the solution (8.9x10 4) by the volume of HCl

Institutions such as schools, community groups, sporting clubs, and religious groups are able to help
shape positive attitudes to sport and physical activity athletes (Hede et al, 2010, pg. 300). An
additional reason as to why I have not danced except for in school arranged programs is due to the
lack of facilities and know ballroom dance studio within the Redlands. This is evident as unlike Tennis
where there is five Tennis Centre s within the Redlands there is only two ballroom dance studios. Due
to my failure to succeed in dance this affected my self esteem need and made it hard to enjoy it.
Participating in dance was also made difficult to partake in at school, as Carmel only has one
classroom with the suitable wooden floor and numerous classes needing to use it makes it inequitable.
Trips to a local studio were needed where we were able to have the use of professional dance teachers
making it advantageous. Having the professional advice and help made it easier to choreographed our
own dance routine. Carmel is also a school that does not succeed highly in dance and therefore does
not invest as much time and money into dance compared to other sports like Touch, Rugby 7 s or
Netball. Analyses of an ABS statistic shows that the most popular sport for males was outdoor soccer,
with 309,700 participants and a participation rate of 22%.

Strategic Discussion on U.S Airline Industry
Strategic Discussion on U.S Airline Industry
Discussion Question 1: Use the model of the general environment (Chapter 2, Table 2.1) to evaluate
the opportunities and threats facing the U.S. airline industry and Southwest Airlines in particular.
What are the key opportunities and threats?
The health of the overall U.S airline industry is still tenuous in spite of the passenger traffic volumes
returning to pre 9/11 levels. A survey estimated that from 2001 through 2003, the US airline industry
reported to have lost $23.2 billion dollars, compounded by an additional $1.6 billion in the first
quarter of 2004. This $24.8 billion shortfall exceeds the total profits earned over the entire six year

The airline industry is lobbying with Congress for a extension of federal War Risk insurance program.
To summarize some of the opportunities and threats faced by the airline today are
• Rising fuel cost which impacts the profit margin of the industry.
• Added security cost by govt. to enhance the safety of aircraft and our airports.
• The industry forecast an increase in tax on the operating income which will further reduce the net
profit for the airline industry.
• Rising short term interest rate would add additional pressure on the airline industry.
• Improving economy and travel demand is likely to bring legacy airlines in positive territory of
profits.
• Expiration of Federal War Risk Insurance program

airline industry.
The Porter s five forces model provides a framework for industry competition as
1) Threat of new entrants
Based upon the analysis above #DQ1, the airline industry is faced with several distinct threats and
challenges. However, opportunities for new entrants exist in regional airline market where major
airlines have retrenched their operations and other airlines have not pursued their operation. In mature
market, the new entrant will face stiff competition from low cost airlines and the legacy airlines. 2)

drugs, but it isn t working. If drugs were legalized, it would allow the U.S. government to spend this
money on other pressing issues that are currently under funded. Not only would the legalization of
drugs help the U.S. government, it would also help governments in Andean South America,
specifically Peru. Americans consumption of illegal drugs is detrimental from the Peru government, as
the cartels can control what the government does, due to their large cash flow. Peru s government is
currently controlled by the drug cartels, which is harming the people living there, as their government
does not accurately represent who they are, and does not actively try to

Causes Of Deforestation In Madagascar
Deforestation on the island of Madagascar, an island off of the coast of Africa, has caused major
destruction of habitat for species and a reduction in numbers of plants and trees. The island used to be
largely covered in dense forests which were home to many species of lemur and other animals. Now,
⅘ of the island is bare and uninhabitable for these animals. Deforestation on the island progresses at
around 150,000 to 200,000 hectares of forests cut down each year. Because of this many plants and
animals that only occur in the wild on Madagascar are endangered. The problem has effects on both
abiotic factors as well as the biotic factors, which include animals and plants. Some of the abiotic
things impacted include lakes and shorelines. One of the main causes for the deforestation is slash and
burn agriculture. In this technique, small areas of forest are cut down and everything is burned to clear
the area and introduce some nutrients into the ground. Then, rice is planted and grown for a few years.
After some time, all of the nutrients are depleted from the ground and rice cannot grow well anymore.
Because of this, farmers have to continuously cut down more and more forest. The reason that this is
such a common thing on Madagascar is because most people are poor and need food, so they resort to
this destructive technique that leaves land barren and unable to support growth.
The impacts on biotic factors are obvious. One third of the island s 1,600 unique species of plants

Are Non-Monetary Rewards in the Workplace Beneficial
Are Non monetary Rewards in the Workplace Beneficial?
Many high performance companies understand the importance of offering awards and incentives that
recognize, validate, and value outstanding work. They help keep the employees motivated and
productive, and are effective methods of reinforcing company expectations and goals. When the
management of a department gets together to put an incentive program into place, they have to decide
which awards are worth the effort. They also have to consider the perceived value of earning the
award, as well as the effort that is required to earn it. Management and employees may perceive non
monetary incentives to be more valuable than the retail value of the award in cash. Non monetary

According to research performed by Allen and Helms (2002), they confirmed the importance of
regular expressions of appreciation by managers and leaders to encourage behavior of employees to
reach strategic goals. Developmental opportunities, such as being assigned to special projects, can also
be a powerful form of non monetary recognition. Being chosen to accomplish a company initiative is
motivating. It helps employees gain new skills and experiences, demonstrates trust in their abilities,
and adds variety to an individuals work.
Successful Recognition Janet Wiscombe (2002), an associate editor of Workforce, stated that
compensation is a right and recognition is a gift. To successfully recognize employees, emphasize on
the success instead of dwelling on the things that went wrong. Deliver recognition and reward openly
and publicly. Give recognition in a personal and honest manner. Tailor the recognition and reward to
the unique needs of the people involved. Timing is crucial, so contribution should be recognized
throughout a project. Reward contribution close to the time when an achievement is realized, since
delays can weaken the impact. Strive for a clear, unambiguous, and well communicated connection
between accomplishment and reward. Make sure people understand why they received an award and
what criteria were used to determine it. Also, recognize recognition by recognizing the people who
recognize others for excellence. Non monetary

The Slave Labor Camp, Buna, By Primo Levi
From birth, three basic necessities are recognized as vital in order to sustain life, those being clothing,
shelter, and food (which also includes water). With these three basic requirements met, a human can
survive. However surviving and living one s life fully as a human are separate things, and the question
must be asked does the limitation of food to the bare minimum required to continue sustaining one s
body begin to also impinge on one s humanity (which for the purposes of this paper will be defined as
the entire human existence, physically, emotionally, and otherwise) in a more thorough way? Food is a
prime example of how the slave labor camp, Buna, as told by Primo Levi in his memoir Survival in
Auschwitz, attempted to dehumanize Levi. Levi begins with the journey (the literal one) at a camp in
Italy where he is being held. It was announced by the Germans that Jews would be leaving the camp
destination unknown. Loaded onto buses, the crowds were taken to a train station where they boarded
and were off. Levi recalls the discomfort of the train and accounts of others around him. Upon arrival,
the men and women were separated, and soon thereafter Levi, unaware the same fate awaited him,
first witnessed a prisoner. From entering the camp and onward, he is confused by the atrocities
occurring around him. Levi goes through the motions of admittance, shower, tattoo, new uniform,
barrack assignment and then began the long tortuous year, where his will was so

The Ways Of Today s Society
The ways of today s society are a trap to the common child. One cannot go out in public without
seeing at least one child using some form of technology. When most are used to seeing children
playing in their front yards or on a playground as they once did, they have a sudden awakening when
they realize, most children are not like that anymore. Modern culture is a corruption to one s
childhood and causes a child to be unsocial, unhealthy, and constantly pressured to follow the newest
trends in social media, however, certain TV shows and websites have been known to try and educate
children. Because of modern technology, kids are becoming more and more unsocial. Instead of

Children are not able to develop the social skills that they are supposed to when they do not get out
and play with other adolescents or even interact with their own family. Because of the fact that kids
are sitting inside for so long, they often become quite unhealthy. As someone sits there for a while,
they feel the urge to snack on foods. Most often, the foods they are snacking on are junk food. Since
they are looking mindlessly at a screen, children find themselves subconsciously eating. Junk food
such as chips and candy can become addictive and it is difficult to stop eating once started. Not only
does the food they eat cause the children to be unhealthy, but they are also not getting out and being
physically active. Children s developing sensory, motor, and attachment systems have biologically not
evolved to accommodate this sedentary, yet frenzied and chaotic nature of today s technology. Young
children require 2 3 hours per day of active, rough and tumble play to achieve adequate sensory
stimulation to their vestibular, proprioceptive and tactile systems. Tactile stimulation received through
touching, hugging and play is critical for the development of praxis, or planned movement patterns
(The Impact of Technology on the Developing Child). It is necessary for children to be physically
active and play, as it helps with their physical and mental development.

relaxing acoustic sound to it and the lyrics taste like chocolate never tasted before insinuating that the
chocolate is new and unique, like her painting. The style of the painting, now having run due to rain, is

camera then pans across to something with black fur. As the camera continues to move across and
starts to zoom out, we see it is a close up of a gorilla, with an earpiece in. We see him close his eyes,
taking deep breaths and clicking his neck, at one time he snarls at the camera. The music slowly builds

camera is slowly panning out to reveal him to be in a music studio surrounded by mic s and speakers.
The advert finishes with a purple screen and showing a bar of Cadbury chocolate. Connotation The

Comparing Richard Cory and Miniver Cheevy Essays
In Edwin Arlington Robinson s poems, Richard Cory and Miniver Cheevy the main characters are
portrayed as outcasts. Both are shunned from society neither having any real friends. Though these
characters have some similarities, the way in which Robinson portrays them is very different. Richard
Cory is admired by his peers, where as, Miniver Cheevy is opposite; people look down on him. One
man appearing to have everything takes his own life, while the other appearing to have nothing
accepts his misery.
For Richard Cory, the saying money can t buy happiness, could not be more appropriate. He is,
according to the people of the town, the man with everything. Everyone wished they could be more

to him. They envied him and hated him they wanted his life so easy, so simple, and so happy. They
continued to work and hope that one day they too could be as rich and as happy as Richard Cory,
hating him even more everyday they went without meat . Then Richard Cory, one calm summer night,
went home and put a bullet through his head . One calm summer night implies there was nothing
special or unusual about that particular night, it was the same as any other and yet the town s
god/outcast, commits suicide, for apparently no reason. Robinson gives no insight into Cory s mind,
we can only assume he was so miserable that he could not bear to go another day, with the people on
the pavement looking at him and hating him more and more. The tone of Richard Cory is upbeat until
the unexpected end; in contrast Miniver Cheevy has a negative tone from the first line, Miniver
Cheevy, child of scorn . Scorn implies hatred, disdain contempt and misery. He assailed the seasons

Why Do People Spend More Time Buying A New Car Or Planning...
Introduction Why do people spend more time buying a new car or planning a vacation than investing
their life savings? Most people know they should play a more active role in their investments but they
often do not know where to start. Investing simply means putting your money to work so it can make
more money. The responsibility for retirement planning is shifting to the individual. According to
Statistics Canada, the amount of paid workers covered by a registered pension plan dropped from 44.2
% in 1985 to 38.5% in 2005. Saving for retirement will likely be the biggest financial goal for most
Canadians and investing is one of the few ways that can help achieve their goals. Investing is not a get
rich quick scheme nor is it gambling. Gambling is putting your money at risk by betting on a random
outcome with the hope that you might win more money. Wise investors don t leave it to chance. They
have a plan and commit money only when they have a reasonable expectation of profit. Everyone has
a different idea of what money means to them personal freedom. A sense of security or the ability to
afford the things they want in life. Having an investment plan can help you get where you want to be.
An Investment funds is a pool of money collected from many investors that is used by the fund
manager to purchase and sell stocks, bonds or other securities in accordance with the fund s
investment objective. The purpose of this paper is to discuss two investment funds

Product Life Cycle
Product Life Cycle
Introduction: This paper aims at analysing the usefulness of the Product Life Cycle (PLC) concept to
the marketers. It will describe the different stages of the PLC concept and their respective implications
on the marketing mix and the strategies which can be adopted during the different phases.
Every new product right from its entrance in the market till its elimination from the market goes
through a certain sequence of stages known as Product Life Cycle. There are four stages popularly
addressed by the product life cycle which are: Introduction, growth, maturity and decline recognized
as distinct stages in the sales history of a product (Kotler, 1984).[pic]
Different Stages of Product Life Cycle
Each stage of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second is in terms of manufacturers attempting to secure as many distribution outlet possibilities
as possible, as the product has now lost its innovative appeal. In distribution terms they move from
exclusive, then to selective and finally to intensive distribution. The philosophy of the latter is that
maximum exposure at the point of sale is probably as important as brand awareness.
o Promotion: During this phase promotion tends to change from one of creating awareness to one of
attempting to create an identifiable brand. Promotional expenditure is probably still quite high.
Competitors will know the perceived weaknesses of your product, so they can emphasize the strength
of theirs. Although it might seem that being in the market first is a good policy, it is also a high risk
policy. Unless the company is large enough to sustain a costly failure at this stage, or has other
products to fall back upon, then such a policy is very high risk indeed.
Maturity and saturation are dealt with together, because the maturity phase is the phase where the
product s sales level off to a gradual peak over a longer period (often years or decades). The saturation
phase is from its peak, gradually downwards to the phase where sales start to decelerate towards the
decline phase. In fact, many marketing authors miss out the saturation phase altogether and class all of
this phase as maturity . During this

Is Education A Moral And Civilised Society Which Is At...
Education s main goal is to establish a civilised, moral and contented society which is at ease with
itself (Hayes, 2008). This interpretation of education is one which I have seen gather meaning
throughout my placement, if posed with the question what is the aim of education? prior to my
placement my response would have been a generic and standard answer referring to the possibilities of
getting a job in the future and to meet government and societies standards. But my time on placement
has allowed me to reflect upon and respond to the excellent teaching I have witnessed which has had a
focus on meeting standards but there is an edge to the style of teaching, characterising how the teacher
cares for every single child as an individual and wishes to see them grow and develop as individuals.
This article of work has been broken down into four main sections; these sections are the main entries
from my reflective diary which in my opinion are the most significant experiences from my time. The
first section is focused primarily on how the teachers rapport which is built through her affection and
care to her class which consequently inspires the class to work and behave for her and how this affects
the behaviour management strategies used in the classroom, secondly I will look at the differentiation
between pupils in the classroom, the role of the teaching assistant in the classroom and finally the use
of questioning in the classroom. How teacher pupil rapport affects

Alternative Theories to Profit Maximization
Alternative theories to profit maximization ranging from perfect competition to strict monopolies.
Companies and The Market
Most companies are profit oriented. Companies survive and live on profit. Even governmental
institutions, NGO s and NPO s are profit oriented, what they do with profit is different though. Saying
this means that companies seek always to be at a position where profit is maximized. As we know by
now this happens when MC=MR but this is an always changing point as supply and demand are
dynamic, effectively meaning that if firms get it right once they can t just do the same eternally, they
still need to adapt to every market factor as a new change is a new reality all together that needs to be
studied and addressed. All ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One step away from perfect competition is monopolistic competition. This type of market structure
has a number of different characteristics from the above. Which turn it into one of the most used
market structures. In this scenario, companies are not all price takers and start making use of
economies of scale in order to improve efficiency, reduce costs and increase profits. In the scenario
companies sell a differentiated product at different prices. Like in perfect competition no barriers are
put to entry and newcomers a constant threat to the market keeping every player always in search for a
better mean to produce and compete.
An oligopoly, is when there are only a few number of companies that control a specific market. The
barriers to entry can be both legal/political (ie. number of licenses awarded to cell phone operators) to
the fact that the companies themselves create a cartel like attitude effectively brushing of the market
new entrants through aggressive measures like undercutting pricing on new smaller entrants,
controlling inputs for production, etc.
On the other end of the market structures are monopolies. Monopolies are generally quite inefficient in
the sense that consumers don t have a choice in terms of what to consume and generally speaking don
t offer good value for money as the company dictates the price of the good irrespective of cost (as we

History of Prison Reform in the US Essay
When people think of reform movements, they often look for one key sign, and ask one key question
of whether that the reform was a success. Did the reform create a lasting change in the way people
view the institution that was reformed? All the great reformation movements, from Horace Mann and
his education reforms, to Martin Luther, and the Protestant Reformation, to the civil rights movement,
all created lasting change in the minds of the average person. One other reform, often overlooked
historically is the Prison Reform movement. As the world shifted from 18th to 19th century ways of
life, many key aspects of life underwent tremendous change. As the United States gained their
independence from Britain and began to shape their own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While the reforms of the 1820s through the 1850s were well intended, what began as a moral reform
transformed into one of secular interest. Capital punishment played a pivotal role in the punishment of
criminals in the early colonial period, with William Penn of Pennsylvania being the first responsible
leader to utilize imprisonment as a corrective treatment for major offenders. In 1682 his Great Law
provided the confinement of both major and minor violators of the law to be placed in houses of
correction.3 There they would partake in work for moderate compensation, for a period of time
proportional to their respective crimes. Soon an amendment was ratified making murder a capital
offense, and remained the only capital offense until 1700 when treason could also be punished by
death. Up until the death of William Penn in 1718, Pennsylvania largely relied on fines and
imprisonment, shifting to a different system of criminal punishment only after the passing of Penn.
Soon after conservative groups gained control, and Pennsylvania reimposed the English criminal code,
which increased the number of crimes punishable by death to twelve, and allowed punishments such
as whipping to be doled out. This system lasted until the post colonial age, when in 1786 the state
eliminated the death penalty for robbery and burglary and subsequently only retained capital
punishment for first degree murder in 1794.4 Sparking the changes was the

The Three Types Of Underdevelopment Theory
The third theory is underdevelopment theory. This theory have explain three types of country which is
core, semi periphery and periphery country. Immanuel Wallerstein also classificies the positions of
country, which is based on the developed and developing countries according to their economics in the
global level. This theory is about the capitalist world economy that means the people or the rich
country who have the control of economy in certain places or a country (Sorinel, 2010). This level can
be divided into core (rich country), semi periphery (developing country) and periphery (poor country)
(Sorinel, 2010). This theory show that how the capitalist or rich country manage the economy of the
semi periphery and the periphery country. This types have their own function in this theory. For the
core country, the people transform raw materials into consumers goods with the use of modern
technology and large amount of capital. Core country can be called as production or economic center
(Wallerstein, 1974). In semi periphery country or developing country, this country is like buffer zone
between the core and pheriphery country. This country being exploited by the core while the country
also exploit the periphery country (Sorinel, 2010). For periphery country, the ... Show more content on

Critical Disability In Titus Andronicus
Some say revenge is a dish best served cold, but in Titus Andronicus this dish is served piping hot and
bloody. One of the literary themes presented is critical disability study. Critical disability is when
somebody stands out from the norm. One study talks about being socially disabled and not being able
to fit in with the rest of the group in the story. Another study talks about the definition of normality,
and how those who don t fit into that category affect the story as a whole. Another story talks about
how being disabled in a certain way acts as a catalyst for a character and fuels their actions from then
on. In Titus Andronicus each of these forms of critical disability are present. Titus and Lavinia are
both crippled in a multitude of ways physically. However, there are other characters who have a
disability that cripples them; Aaron the Moor, Tamora queen of the goths, and Saturninus the Emperor.
They are crippled in different ways through their views and actions. These crippled characters are a
major part of the story. If they were not present or the things that crippled them were not present then
the story would not be viewed in the same light. Looking at physical disabilities, there is the loss of
Lavinia s hands and tongue. Before her incident she is evidently vibrant and full of life. There is one
scene where the emperor, who just said he was going to marry lavinia, hits on Tamora and even tells
Lavinia that Tamora is more beautiful and she makes a snide

  • 2. Paracharacterism In The Bell Jar Sylvia Plath s Bell Jar was composed as a semi auto biographical novel yet it dealt with many of the contemporary issues of the time such as women emancipation in a psychological sphere. Plath s actual psyche is reflected in her work which she struggled to continue as a female writer. As an American writer she faced plentyof criticism which over powered her mental faculty as a clinically depressed author. Sadly, she ended her life shortly after finishing this novel and her prolific writing career was cut short. Plath was presented with many obstacles after her traumatic break down which was mirrored in her work which depicted a sense of imprisonment and looming death, overshadowing any scope for personal freedom. The novel was partly based ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She visualizes that each fig represents a different set of opportunities: One fig was a husband and children, and another fig was a famous poet...and another fig was Europe and Africa and South America... . She can only choose one fig, but because she is reluctant to choose between them, she becomes paralyzed, unable to choose any, and the figs rot and fall to the ground. The fig tree turns out to symbolize Esther s choices in life. Each fig represents a different future, and hence stands out as a critique of the female entrapment advocated in the fifties, where combining professions with motherhood proved difficult if not impossible. In the novel this is related to Esther s combating choices in life: career versus motherhood, sexuality versus purity and conventionality versus political and ideological awareness. The fig tree fable could be interpreted as a metaphor on the bildungsroman as it represents universal choices for adolescent characters like Esther Greenwood. Choices that Ethel Rosenberg s had were much narrower. It can be argued that in her opinion, she only had wo role to choose from, that by nature were poles apart, the roles being that of the loyal and dedicated woman who is the wife and mother of two little boys and that of a communist radical. However , due to her disinclination to give away the trial, she can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Responses Of Animals And Plants Viruses are biological agents that are extremely small and highly infectious. It possesses the ability in infecting all cell types, from complex eukaryotes such as plants and animals, to microorganisms including archaea and bacteria. [1] However, it could only rely on infecting a host cell for viral replication, which when infecting a host cell it incorporates its genetic materials into the host cell DNA and uses the host s cellular component for replication, such that the cell produces viral proteins and genetic materials for assembling new viron instead of its usual products. [2] Upon viral infection, a series of immune responses will be provoked in the host cell, which these responses may vary in different life forms. The aim of this essay is to explore the antiviral responses in animals and plants; comparing the responses mechanisms that are common in both parties, as well as investigating their relative unique responses. Introduction Viral infection in plants and animals Some viruses could only infect certain or several species, while others is capable of infecting many. The range of different types of cells that a virus could infect is regarded as its host range. Plant viruses has a narrower host range such that they only replicate in living plant cells and fails to infect animal cells. [3] On the other hand, while some animal viruses are known to be species specific, such as smallpox virus that could only infect humans; there are also viruses that has a board host ... Personal Action Plan Personal Action Plan for the Department of Special Education Currently, the curriculum implemented throughout Farmington Municipal Schools District for the multiply impaired special education programs fails to effectively equip students in the area of life skills and other areas of development such as sensory, fine motor and gross motor. It relies heavily on worksheets, which focus on the subjects of math and reading. While basic math problems and phonics and phonemic awareness are essential to a student s academic development, such skills cannot be mastered by students severely disabled and there is nothing offered in the curriculum for students who are blind, autistic or suffering from a severe neurological disorder (Comprehensive Curriculum, ... In other words, it does not require the use of a student s hand to use a pencil or crayon. Instead, every student would be able to share the reading of a text with the support of the teacher. The teacher would read aloud using vocal expression while students follow along either by listening or following along while holding a book (Comprehensive Curriculum, 2015). While a supplemental curriculum would need to be designed in order to meet the needs of every student within a special education room, there may be some resistance from the district, as they prefer all teachers to use a universal curriculum and not individualize it. However, due to the fact that not all students have the same disability or limitations, they cannot be expected to participate in a universal curriculum, as it will be limited in its ability to accommodate for every student s individual needs (An Introduction, ... Nike Supplier Relationship Forecasting in the fashion industry is usually a complicated due to the fact that it s characterized by high demand, short product life cycles and different varieties of product lines. Consequently, managing customer demand tends to be difficult, for organizations have to avoid large volumes of stock. In this industry, there s intense competition and consumers are price conscious; accordingly, these factors have slowed the growth of this industry. A patient who smokes is twice more likely to develop periodontal disease than a non smoker (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2015). For patients who have lost teeth, dental implant can be a great solution. Dental implants are pure titanium cylindrical posts which are placed in the maxilla or mandible on patients to replace missing teeth. A prospective study published in the International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Implants reviewed two hundred and twenty three Branemark dental implants placed in seventy eight patients by the same surgeon. The study showed that patients who followed the smoking cessation protocol had a significantly higher success rate of osseointegration than that of patient who smoked during the early stages of dental implant placement. Smoking has been shown to compromise a patient s healing potential after the initial implant placement (Williams, 1994). According to a study published in the International Journal of Oral Implantology, there is a direct relationship between patient who smoke and the failure rates of dental implants. The study conducted evaluated two thousand one hundred and ninety four Nobel implants. The implants were placed by one surgeon on five hundred and forty patients over a six year period. • 8. The Persian Gulf War And The Arab War Persian Gulf War A brief history of the middle east and the nation of Iraq prior to the Persian Gulf War will help explain why the Persian Gulf War was viewed as necessary by the allied countries. The formation of a coalition of countries, the use of innovative military equipment, and strategic military operations helped the allied forces secure victory in the Persian Gulf War. The effects of this victory and subsequent conflict have changed our world as we know it. The Persian Gulf is one of the oldest known trade routes in the world. Conflict is a major issue in that region also. Oil is a part of the reason there is conflict. Great Britain used to control Iraq because of the oil in the nation. Iraq has been a nation with copious amounts of border conflicts and wars. Saddam Hussein, who supported the Ba athist party, assumed the role of president of Iraq in 1979. In September 1980, Saddam Hussein ordered his troops into Iran oil fields, thus starting the Iraq Iran war; another Iraqi conflict; in which Saddam Hussein was fighting Iranian leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, a Shīʿite who disliked Saddam Hussein. ( Saddam Hussein ) Saddam Hussein could be classified as brutal leader, as he warred against the ethnic groups the Kurds, and the Shīʿites. • 9. The Purpose Of A Case Study Media research indicates that journalistic standards and practices are socially constructed systems, which deal with complex work processes by organising news flow and explicating roles and competencies (Tuchman 1978; Fishman 1980). The case study method is regarded as a valid tool to analyse a complex issue. A case study is defined as an empirical inquiry that investigates a contemporary phenomenon within its real life context (Yin 2003: 13). It is best used to understand complex social and organisational issues. Case study evidence to answer research questions and contribute to theory development originates from a variety of sources, such as documentation, archival records, interviews (qualitative or quantitative) and observation. The second is that it is not easily open to generalisation but if it is contextualised and carefully described then others can consider its usefulness in other contexts and examples (Wisker 2001:191). Finally, Dominick and Wimmer argue that case studies are likely to be time consuming and may occasionally produce massive quantities of data that are hard to summarise (1987: 165). With regard to this study, I would like to argue that the strengths of observations outweigh the weaknesses. In addition, there is simply no other method that applies better to what I want to investigate. The findings are not representative of all newsrooms experimenting with convergence since the research is derived from one case. Therefore I do not wish to generalise any findings from this case study. I tried to provide readers with good raw material for their own generalising because the reader can make his or her own generalisations and interpret it their way (Stake, 1995:102). • 10. Keats And Finch And The Nightingale In literature, it is generally agreed that The Nightingale invites the beholder to explore something beyond the merely human . Both Keats and Finch imitate this concept in Ode to a Nightingale and To the Nightingale by using poetic form and language to show the qualities of a bird that inspires them to look beyond the physical and in Finch s case, challenge the confines of human restriction whilst asserting poetry as a human necessity. Keats was a key figure in the Romantic era in the first part of the 17th century which, according to René Wellek s classic definition, sought to substitute imagination for the view of poetry, nature for the view of the world, and symbol and myth for poetic style. Therefore, Keats Ode to a Nightingale , written in 1819, has an affiliation with the natural world, through both the metaphors he uses and his meter and rhyme. The fact that the poem is an Ode to a nightingale shows that Keats is addressing the bird in particular and therefore it asserts the link that is found in Romanticism between humans and the natural world. M. H. Abrams states that Keats wrote this poem, whilst reminiscent of a Horation Ode, as what came to be known as a Romantic Meditative Ode which is the personal ode of description and passionate meditation . It is clear here that what Keats is passionate about in this poem is the country green . Keats coined the term negative capability to describe passionate mediation in a letter to ... • 13. Distinguishing Factors In The Other Wes Moore Distinguishing Factors One of the great things about the The other Wes Moore is the simple retelling of two completely different lives. It is interesting how Moore does not advise but rather hopes that each person will develop their own idea and construct about what the moral of the story may be. And furthermore about how it applies to an individual s life. The story starts with the question of what if? That question starts the reader off in a state of mind to question the turning point for each person. There are many key ideas that led two children of similar background to completely different lives. The main cause for both Wes Moore s would arguably be the families in which each character was surrounded by. • 19. Concentration Of Acid-Base Titration Acid Base titration is defined as using a solution of known concentration and volume to find the concentration of a solution with known volume but unknown concentration. Acid Base titration can be used when mixing strong acids and strong bases because strong acids and bases neutralize each other. Phenolphthalein indicators, substances that change color based on pH, can be used to determine when the titration is complete and when both of the solutions are neutralized. In this experiment, Acid Base titration will be used to determine the concentration of 10mL of an HCl solution by adding a known volume 0.1003 M NaOH solution using a buret. The chemical equation for this reaction is NaOH(aq)+HCl(aq) → NaCl(aq)+H2O(l). Because the moles of NaOH equals the moles of HCl, the number of moles of NaOH that are added to the solution in order to neutralize it will equal the moles of HCl in the solution. The number of moles of NaOH added to the solution will be used to determine the moles of HCl, which will then be used to determine the molarity of the HCl solution by dividing the number of moles of HCl by the volume of HCl, according to the formula: Moles/Volume=Molarity. Results The average HCl molarity was found to be 0.090 M. Our actual values were 0.091, 0.091, and 0.089. These molarities were found according to the formula mass/volume=molarity. For example, 0.089 was found by dividing the moles of NaOH added to the solution (8.9x10 4) by the volume of HCl ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The island used to be largely covered in dense forests which were home to many species of lemur and other animals. Now, ⅘ of the island is bare and uninhabitable for these animals. Deforestation on the island progresses at around 150,000 to 200,000 hectares of forests cut down each year. Because of this many plants and animals that only occur in the wild on Madagascar are endangered. The problem has effects on both abiotic factors as well as the biotic factors, which include animals and plants. Some of the abiotic things impacted include lakes and shorelines. One of the main causes for the deforestation is slash and burn agriculture. In this technique, small areas of forest are cut down and everything is burned to clear the area and introduce some nutrients into the ground. Then, rice is planted and grown for a few years. After some time, all of the nutrients are depleted from the ground and rice cannot grow well anymore. Because of this, farmers have to continuously cut down more and more forest. The reason that this is such a common thing on Madagascar is because most people are poor and need food, so they resort to this destructive technique that leaves land barren and unable to support growth. Food is a prime example of how the slave labor camp, Buna, as told by Primo Levi in his memoir Survival in Auschwitz, attempted to dehumanize Levi. Levi begins with the journey (the literal one) at a camp in Italy where he is being held. It was announced by the Germans that Jews would be leaving the camp destination unknown. One other reform, often overlooked historically is the Prison Reform movement. As the world shifted from 18th to 19th century ways of life, many key aspects of life underwent tremendous change. As the United States gained their independence from Britain and began to shape their own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While the reforms of the 1820s through the 1850s were well intended, what began as a moral reform transformed into one of secular interest. Capital punishment played a pivotal role in the punishment of criminals in the early colonial period, with William Penn of Pennsylvania being the first responsible leader to utilize imprisonment as a corrective treatment for major offenders. In 1682 his Great Law provided the confinement of both major and minor violators of the law to be placed in houses of correction.3 There they would partake in work for moderate compensation, for a period of time proportional to their respective crimes. Soon an amendment was ratified making murder a capital offense, and remained the only capital offense until 1700 when treason could also be punished by death. Up until the death of William Penn in 1718, Pennsylvania largely relied on fines and imprisonment, shifting to a different system of criminal punishment only after the passing of Penn. Soon after conservative groups gained control, and Pennsylvania reimposed the English criminal code, which increased the number of crimes punishable by death to twelve, and allowed punishments such as whipping to be doled out. This system lasted until the post colonial age, when in 1786 the state eliminated the death penalty for robbery and burglary and subsequently only retained capital punishment for first degree murder in 1794.4 Sparking the changes was the ... • 37. Critical Disability In Titus Andronicus Some say revenge is a dish best served cold, but in Titus Andronicus this dish is served piping hot and bloody. One of the literary themes presented is critical disability study. Critical disability is when somebody stands out from the norm. One study talks about being socially disabled and not being able to fit in with the rest of the group in the story. Another study talks about the definition of normality, and how those who don t fit into that category affect the story as a whole. Another story talks about how being disabled in a certain way acts as a catalyst for a character and fuels their actions from then on. In Titus Andronicus each of these forms of critical disability are present. Titus and Lavinia are both crippled in a multitude of ways physically. However, there are other characters who have a disability that cripples them; Aaron the Moor, Tamora queen of the goths, and Saturninus the Emperor. They are crippled in different ways through their views and actions. These crippled characters are a major part of the story. If they were not present or the things that crippled them were not present then the story would not be viewed in the same light. Looking at physical disabilities, there is the loss of Lavinia s hands and tongue. Before her incident she is evidently vibrant and full of life. There is one scene where the emperor, who just said he was going to marry lavinia, hits on Tamora and even tells Lavinia that Tamora is more beautiful and she makes a snide ...
