John Wooden Research Paper
John Wooden is a very famous coach who made something called the Pyramid of Success . This
pyramid consisted 15 words that made up for someone s success. My favorite three words from this
pyramid are Friendship, Alertness, Intentness. Firstly, friendship is one of my favorite words because
it is something that I use in activites I am in so everyone feels like its a second family. When I went to
Science Olympiad for testing, a strong bond of friendship was formed between me and a couple other
of the students there, it really help create a form of unity that can only come from a team. It really
helped everyone s nerves that day and calmed down people s fears. My second word I picked is
alertness. Alertness is something I love because it has

Steeple Vs Eagen Case Study
Steeple v. Eagen Eagen was in a situation where his instructor, and possibly other students, were in
danger. Each state and the federal government allow for the right to self defense. However, states have
developed rules which define when self defense is allowed. Factors that must be examined are the
imminent nature of the threat, reasonable nature of the threat, proportional response, duty to retreat
versus stand your ground, and beyond. Eagen was within his right to respond to Steeple. Miller et. al
states a more succinctly phrased test to determine if self defense is applicable. Miller et. al questions,
Was the defendant privileged to use force to defend herself, and was the degree of force that she used
reasonable? A person may defend themselves against any threat of physical contact or confinement.
The notion of whether the threat is negligent or intentional is irrelevant. In fact, the defendant does not
even have to be harmed to use this defense. Based on the idea that self preservation is the first law of
nature even in err, a defendant must genuinely believe there is a threat. For example, if a police officer
shoots and kills a criminal known to be armed who reached in their pocket for keys, the officer still
can claim self defense because the notion the criminal was pulling out a gun, based on their
background, is reasonable. Likewise, Eagan perceived not only imminent danger but a deadly danger
that would likely have left Bonds dead if he had not responded. The fact that the danger was no real,
has zero bearing on the legal situation. Another issue at hand is proportional response or reasonable
force. It could be argued that Eagen responded in a disproportionate manner that led to the broken leg
of Steeple. However, this argument is mitigated by the fact the deadly force may be used to address a
threat of equal deadly force. Eagan did not likely intend to break Steeple s leg, only intending to
prevent Steeple s aggression from escalation. However, this is largely irrelevant from a legal
standpoint. At the time of Eagan s actions, Steeple was seemingly choking Bonds. Choking can equate
to deadly force. If the simulation were real and Steeple continued to choke Bonds, he would succumb

Analysis Of Acquainted With The Night
In Company of the Moon and Inner Sorrow, Acquainted with the Night
In Robert Frost s poem, Acquainted with the Night , there is a sense of melancholic loneliness of
which the speaker seems to be content with. The reader sees a glimpse of his perpetual depression on a
habitual night time walk. He starts by saying he is one acquainted with the night (line 1). He feels a
sort of companionship with this time of day. Ironically enough, while most everyone else is asleep and
quiet, he feels a sense of belonging. The speaker personifies the city through parallels of his own
lonely depression. Having walked out in rain and back in rain shows that despite the weather, he is
persistent in his practice (line 2). The rain is symbolic of a gloomy mood or even a rough patch in one
s life. In this case, the rain is parallel to his actuality. As it rains for an extended period, we can infer
that the persona has suffered with depression for some time. Underlying causes of his sadness are not
clear. However, the reader gets the impression he lives a life alone. His sense of being is encompassed
in the imagery of the somber city streets. He is lonely, a continual moment of subtle dread haunts his
life. The repetition of the phrase, I have , at the beginning of the first four lines is significant as it
shows all he experiences on these walks. The walk seems to be a nightly ritual, perhaps a way to clear
his thoughts. Insomnia is often linked with feelings of emptiness in a depressed

What Is The Difference Between Roark And Peter Keating
Howard Roark and Peter Keating s means of achieving success diverge in that Keating assumes the
caliber of his outcomes on the approval of others through his application of external guidance whereas
Roark disclaims any external sentiment toward his work; he operates independent from the judgement
of others and external impacts on his product. In order to evaluate the fortune of these two characters,
success must be delineated. One application of achievement establishes it on the measurement of how
well one executes a task, and their procurance. Many gauge their earnings through interactions with
others; to an extent, social conditioning generates human dependence. The Fountainhead, however,
confronts this conception of success with a jarring contrast between Keating s and Roark s paths.
Roark s approach to accomplishment inheres in his independence from the opinions of others whereas

Furthermore, a pattern emerges in an evaluation of Keating s path to success ; it indicates
advancement through his ultimate resignation to the jurisdiction and ideals of others, a quality derived
from his character throughout Rand s novel. Ultimately, it is Keating s character that supplies his
apparent success and his graduation scene introduces his nature. Guy Francon reiterates the dean s
assertion that all the proper forms of expression have been discovered long ago (24), and emphasizes
the ideals of the Stanton Institute of Technology as he depicts Truth an aspect of architecture as

Cloned Meat
Cloned meat has been founded on December 28 2006, the United States Food Drug Administration
(FDA) gave preliminary approval for meat and dairy products from cloned animals to be sold as food
for human consumption. They also stated that labeling of cloned food would not be required because
of the approval of the FDA. When they stated that cloned meat didn t require labeling for their food
products, which automatically brought up a red flag because people should have the right to know
whether or not they re eating cloned offspring or home grown meat. How would that make you feel;
what would your reaction be? Well let me tell you; you might feel disgusted, clueless, or confused,
because you wouldn t have any idea of what type of food or production ... Show more content on

While reviewing this website, I ve come to understand that cloning meat is and has been treacherous
to us for providing harm to our farm animals by giving them high doses of different chemicals,
making them live with birth defects and making statements to deceive the public by saying it s a
harmless process that enhances and multiply the breed of animals when it really does not. The scariest
part to this issue is our animals suffer and so do we if we re meat consumers. (Dan Kedmey) Then
studies have proven that bacteriological meat contamination in the US, for the first time was enacted
in 1906 when the Pure Food and Drug Act was signed by laws in regards of banning infected and
mislabeled products from the interstate commerce. Observations about those risks were associated
with bacteriological meat contamination, and about how it should be regulated, has changed
significantly since then. This article focuses particularly on changes that have occurred in
bacteriological meat contamination standards in the US since the early 1980s when E. coli was for the
first time identified as a new foodborne pathogen associated with the consumption of undercooked
meat. The idea of cloning farm animals is to produce replicas of the animals with the highest
economic value, for example the fastest growing pigs or the highest yielding dairy cows to make a
profit off of. However the process of cloning itself causes our animals suffering. Animals with the
highest economic value are prone to developing severe health problems, pushed to their physical
limits; they are destined to a lifetime of suffering. The Cloning equals Cruelty campaign highlighted
intrinsic animal welfare issues for selective breeding in animals for food, meat and dairy. Research
also shows that many cloned farm animals are born with deformed organs and live short and miserable

Blockbuster History
The legacy encompassing the coexistence of blockbuster and independent films are quite interesting
and somewhat complex. History shows that at one point the word blockbuster had nothing to do with a
movie production and originated back in the 1940s. Blockbuster was describing how large bombs can
destroy city blocks in Hamburg during World War 11. The term took on new meaning referring to
anything capable of public impact. Another illustration of this would be when a hyped play was
expected to be very successful and competing theaters were busted and put out of business. Soon the
term blockbuster would become a dominant marketing tool in the world of theater and film production
representing anticipated hits or big box office sales. In other words, blockbusters were used
interchangeably to the concept of major studios.
The movie Jaws in 1975 one of Steven Spielberg classics was a direct beneficiary of this cultural
phenomenon. The movie grossed well over $100,000.00 in ticket sales and laid the foundation of the

Just because some films are produced on a low budget scale does not mean they are excluded as
possibly a hit movie. Many independent films were marked by less investment resources and were
politically inferior to the studios which affected how films were produced, directed and distributed,
and not to mention landmark Supreme Court decisions. It is important to note at one time the major
studios (back then known as the Big Five) were once independent studios prior to the obliteration of
the MPPC patents that where owned by The Edison Trust which dominated major legal rights to the
technology of the industry. The case ended by two Supreme Court decisions which extended certain
legal rights to independent

Nonviolent Methods Used By Randall Robinson, Mahatma...
Around the world there are people whose rights have been restrained by those in power, but only a
few take a stand for them. The nonviolent methods used by Randall Robinson, Mahatma Gandhi, and
Cesar Chavez are what set them apart from other rights activists. Many people around the world owe
their freedom and inspiration to these three activists who have improved the lives of billions.
Throughout history, Africans have faced racism in and out of their home countries. Randall Robinson
was one of the many African American rights activists and helped bring South Africans the rights they
deserved. Robinson said many times that he was inspired by Martin Luther King Jr., who stated that
being peaceful was a surer way to equality. Robinson s participation in a quiet act of civil
disobedience in 1984 set in motion a radical change in American policy toward South Africa s
discriminatory apartheid regime. (). To further his efforts to influence America s foreign policy toward
African and Caribbean countries, he founded TransAfrica Forum in 1977. ... in 1977 TransAfrica came
into existence with Randall Robinson as its executive director and founder. (African American
Registry). Later in his life he lived in a self imposed exile from the United States because he felt that
America continued to mistreat African Americans. Before leaving, he convinced Congress to pass a
bill that would effectively end the South African Regime. In 1986 the U.S. Senate overrode a Reagan
veto to pass a series of sweeping sanctions against South Africa ... known as the Anti Apartheid Act of
1986. (). He progressed African s rights without ever using force.
Mahatma Gandhi was an Indian man who through nonviolent methods paved the way for India s
eventual freedom. Mahatma Gandhi...was the leader of India s non violent independence movement
against British rule and in South Africa who advocated for the civil rights of Indians. (Biography.com

How The Rate Of Reaction When Reacting With Magnesium...
Reaction Rate Lab;
Concentration
(Mg + 2HCl H2+ MgCl2)
Purpose:
How do different concentrations of Hydrochloric Acid (0.1 M, 0.5 M, 1.0 M, 2.0 M) affect the rate of
reaction when reacting with Magnesium ribbon strips?
Hypothesis:
If the hydrochloric acid has a greater concentration (2.0 M), there will be a greater reaction rate than
with a lower concentration (1.0 M, 0.5 M, 0.1 M). This is because if there is a greater concentration,
the chance of the reactants colliding is greater, thus leading to a faster reaction and therefore a faster
reaction rate. (Clark, Jim)
Variables Independent: Concentration of the Hydrochloric Acid (0.1 M, 0.5 M, 1.0 M, 2.0 M)
Dependent: Rate of reaction; amount of time needed to dissolve the Magnesium ribbon. (Time)
Control Variable How it will be controlled
Quantity All experiments will have the same quantity of reactants
Timer All experiments will be timed with the same timer
Environment All experiments will be held in the same room

Medical Malpractice Crisis Analysis
Implications of the medical malpractice crisis One implication of the medical malpractice crisis is that
specialists in high risk fields are considering and/or leaving their practice which is drastically affecting
the quality of patient care; treatment for patients who need specialists is declining rapidity (Cline
Pepine). Insurance rates are so high that many doctor s either can t afford it and/or do not think it is
worth staying in the practice. Patients are often forced to travel long distance for a specialist; waiting
long hours at an overcrowded doctor s office with less efficiency in the quality of medical care (Cline
Pepine). Another implication of the medical malpractice crisis is that a huge reason that insurance
rates continue to skyrocket is the cost of court defense/attorney fees when a doctor loses which
averages a half a million dollars (Abadinsky, 2014); it is also the reason why so many lawyers are
eager to sue doctors. There would be far less frivolous lawsuits if attorneys did not profit so greatly

Although there is no federal statute that limits the amount of profit an attorney can retrieve in medical
malpractice case, some states such as California, Tennessee and Wyoming have placed limits and/or

percentage depending on the amount won for instance in California an attorney cannot exceed 40% of
first $50,000, 1/3 of the next $50,000, 25% of the next $500,000, and 15% of damages exceeding
$600,000 (LaMance, 2014). I would enforce a federal statute that limits the amount of profit an
attorney can retrieve and/or push for all of the US states to place contingency fees with limits and/or

A Psychoanalysis on Ridley Scott’s Alien”
A Psychoanalysis on Ridley Scott s Alien
In 1923 Sigmund Freud noticed the clash within thought and mental processes which led him to
identify three parts of our psyche. He referred to these as the Id, Ego and the Superego. The Id is the
primitive, unconscious basis of the psyche, dominated by primary urges *. It comes from the initial
instinct to satisfy our needs and desires what can be known as the pleasure principle. The
uncontrollable repressed part of our psyche, for example a newborn child is primarily id controlled.
However external contact with the outside world shapes and develops the psyche. At this point the ego
develops.
The ego governs and controls the id. The ego is partly conscious and can gather information for

Ripley refuses, she is second in command and Captain Dallas is one of the infected . She takes control
of the situation and clearly uses her intuition to realize that there is danger in allowing the crew back
in to the vessel. She is using the rules that have being set by society. She uses the rules to justify her
decision, an example: Wait a minute. If we let it in, the ship could be infected. You know the
quarantine procedure. Twenty four hours for decontamination . This shows that she runs by the very
rules that we later find out are putting her life at risk. The Superego is in the form of the spaceship,
which ironically is called Mother which fits in to the idea of introjected parental authority and the
Superego having a parental voice. An example is when Ripley is trying to blow the ship up and
Mother won t put on the cooling unit. Ripley s cries in a child like voice Mother turn on the cooling

Analysis Of The Article Missed Nursing Care
B: Qualitative article critique
B1
Background or introduction
The article is titled missed nursing care. In the introduction, the author tries to tell the readers about
the adverse effects of omission in health care. The study does not have research about the reasons why
the nursing staff has omitted care (Polit, Beck, 2008). The problem statement is clearly and directly
stated. The methods used in collecting information have been mentioned in a separate section where
they are stated clearly. Lack of the current literature on the subject and the challenges facing health
care sector in providing nursing care is an opportunity for anyone to conduct such study. The method
that was used in interviewing the target group is consistent with the naturalistic paradigm of
qualitative research. The traditional research used in the study has not been mentioned in the
introduction. Due to lack of information, one cannot make an assumption about the research problem.
The reader can quickly identify the key concepts of the study in the introduction section. The
researcher did not indicate specific examples about poor patients care despite indicating that staffing is
related to the missed nursing care.
Review of the literature
Reference to the review of the literature has been stated in the introduction. According to the author,
the previous studies have shown that poor staffing can cause adverse effects on the patient. According

The researchers recommended that the medical members, having now recognized the problem, make
available specific teaching sessions on the likelihood of harassment, its prevention, and the need for
protection, the experience would be validated and depersonalized, and female doctors would be helped
to overcome their vulnerability. The opportunity to view sexual harassment as an abuse of power,
rather than an incident provoked by a victim s inappropriate dress or comments, may clarify the
confusion felt by respondents over the causes of harassment and their responses to it (Phillips and
Schneider, 1993). In my own personal opinion, the researchers recommendations focusing on the
development of self awareness by implementing either one on one or group sessions is an effective
way of providing, not only the female physicians but all women in general, an idea of how to detect
and prevent impending sexually motivated advances and how to recover for those who already are
victims of it. These recommendations however failed to specify any possible legal recourse should a
victim opt for it. Recommendations would cover a broader scope of applicability if it included all the
legal aspects accompanying the issue which is exactly what another study suggested. This study, done

Robin Hood Summary
Robin Hood s good traits are easily seen throughout the story. The author did a good job of making his
hero come across as a good person, who has often been misinterpreted because of things that he did as
a young boy. Showing the change Robin Hood has made since he was a little boy easily allows the
reader to better understand how great he really is, and how he is helping not only himself, but all of
the poorer community. br br Robin Hood was faced with issues from very early on in his life. His
mothers death was very difficult for him, but living with his fathers love for another women, after his
mother had died, was just too much for him and he threatened his father that staying with that women
would cost him his only sons love. Robin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This great trait gives the readers the impression that he is somewhat invincible yet it s justified by his
calmness and his skill. He just utilizes so many things when he fights, there is no way he could ever

these skills when he was a young boy growing up as the Kings son.

The Republican Party Essay
Though the Republican Party was founded on pro minority ideals and continued to have the support of
minorities its reputation quickly began to change. Wagner (2007) states that during the early late
1800s and the early 1900s, Republican support weakened among the working class. In addition, many
Americans, including a sizable number of Republicans, believed that American society had lost its
moral fiber. As a result of these factors, many Republicans became affiliated with the Progressive
Movement, a reform movement designed to assist the working class attain better working conditions
in the form of religious fundamentalism. During the Progressive Era, the Republican Party split into
two groups: those Republicans interested primarily in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rueter (1995) provides a detailed look into the world of politics during the civil rights era. Rueter
asserts that prior to the civil rights era, the Republican Party was not as effective in gaining rights for
minorities compared to proposals made by the Democratic Party in the 1960s. He states that it was
clear to minorities that the Democratic Party was more supportive of civil rights versus Republicans
due to their lack of voting support of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
Because of this, Republicans were seen as being against minorities due to their lack of cooperation
with the Democratic Party to end segregation and with President Johnson to allow equal voting rights
(240 1). The Civil Rights Act of 1964 barred unequal application of voter registration requirements,
outlawed discrimination in public accommodations engaged in interstate commerce, encouraged the
desegregation of public schools and authorized the U. S. Attorney General to file suits to force
desegregation, authorized the withdrawal of federal funds from programs which practiced
discrimination, and outlawed discrimination in employment in any business (Loevy 1997, 211 3).
According to Klarman (2004) the civil rights movement caused southerners to cling to the Republican
Party and gave the Democratic Party more momentum to further support minority interests. The
Republican Party s inability to quickly

Yellowtone Mission Trip
Flashes of beautiful wildlife and unbelievable mountain ranges filled my eyes as our youth pastor
showed us the destination of our next mission trip, Yellowstone National Park. I remember looking at
these pictures and thinking there was nothing more I wanted to do than see this amazing wonder. I
wanted to be fully one with nature and experience it with some of the people I loved most, my youth
group. While planning for this trip, I had no idea that by the end of it I would have hiked eighteen
miles into the deep backcountry of Yellowstone with a forty two pound pack on my back. That I
would have slept outside with only a simple tarp over my head and a can of bear spray by my pillow.
That I would have helped remodel a dilapidated home so children living in extreme poverty could
have a place of safe haven. That by the time I returned home, I would have a new desire to seek
adventure and help people in need. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This non profit organization encourages individuals to learn survival skills in the wilderness and take
risks that require stepping out of comfort zones. The organization believes that mission trips should
have an outdoor adventure and a rewarding service project. The adventure part of this trip was
backpacking eighteen miles through Yellowstone. Our path was filled with rocky hills and unleveled
ground, and by the time we got to our campground, our feet were covered in blisters. That night, our
exhausted group of eight slept under a tarp held up by a pole in the middle of a treeless field where
buffalo hooves were imprinted into the ground. We woke up to the sun rising over the mountain tops
and valleys that were unending. And though our bodies were aching, we felt energized and

Alternative Responses
When I find myself in an argument that seems to have no solution, when I feel there are unspoken
motivations on the side of my conversational partner inflaming their irritation, I see that I have the
power to change course. If I have this recognition, I can return to a place of more calm and ask,
What is upsetting you right now? What do you feel is true or important that isn t getting across? To
resolve this I want to really understand how you feel.
Feelings are a point of contention right now. From millenials and their feelings about the workplace to
the vocalization and protest of social justice warriors to the presence of alternative facts or truthiness
what is felt or perceived to be true rather than what data supports.

This means involving feelings. How do people feel, really? What hurts or angers them? Why do they
feel this way? What memories do they have leading to these feelings? How might their feelings
influence their actions? That is the beginning of radical love and compassionate politics. These are the
things considered by a good parent or friend or lover. We put down our defenses and irritation to
consider why they act the way they do when they surprise or disappoint us, because we love them and
believe them worthy of this generosity. Sometimes we decide, Oh, it s not her fault, her mother had
severe OCD so when she s under stress she gets a little anxious about clutter. It s not that big of a deal.
Then sometimes we decide it s too severe and say instead, I know she gets anxious about clutter
because of her upbringing, but it s really getting out of control and damaging our relationship. What
would help her heal that anxiety? And then you begin the conversation of compromise. Either way,
that consideration, awareness, and generosity will go a long way helping each of you find a peaceful

Title IX Obligations
Introduction In recent years, the U.S. Department of Education s Office for Civil Rights has received
an increasing number of questions from parents and schools regarding civil rights protections for
transgender students. Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 prohibits discrimination in
educational programs/activities based on gender, including discrimination based on a student s gender
identity or transgender status. This letter, while it does not add requirements to applicable law,
provides significant guidance and encouragement regarding a school s Title IX obligations for
transgender students and how a school is evaluate for compliance with these obligations. Relevant
Terminology: Gender identity: refers to an individual s sense of gender, may be different from one s
assigned gender at birth
Sex assigned at birth: gender that is designated on an infant s birth certificate

Under Title IX, a school must begin treating a student consistent with their gender identity when they
are notified by the student or student s parent or guardian that the student will identify with a gender
that differs from previous records. No medical diagnosis or treatment is required. Requiring students
to produce documentation of their new gender identity in order to participate in an educational
program/activity may be a violation under Title IX, as these documents are often difficult to obtain
due to legal restrictions. As commonly recognized in civil rights cases, the desire to accommodate the

Throughout history, anti-Semitism has been a reoccurring...
Throughout history, anti Semitism has been a reoccurring problem in which the Dreyfus Affair was an
important event. The Dreyfus Affair was a political scandal, which divided France from the 1890 s to
the early 1900 s. It was a very important event in history. 1894 marked the start of a revolution for
Jewish people, as a French Jewish artillery officer, Captain Alfred Dreyfus was accused of treason
(Isseroff). The accusations against Dreyfus were false all because he was a Jew. Following his
accusation Dreyfus accumulated many followers that became known as Dreyfusards and there were
also those who were against him called anti Dreyfusards (Drefler). Alfred Dreyfus was born into an
upper middle class on October 9th 1859 in Mulhouse, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was convicted of treason by court martial in December 1894 and sentenced to life imprisonment in
solitary confinement on Devil s Island, a prison off the coast of French Guiana (Derfler). Before his
deportation to Guiana he was publicly degraded and humiliated. This false conviction was based on a
list called the bordereau, which contained admission to secret French military information (Dreyfus).
This list was picked out of the garbage pail of Maximilian Von Schwartzkoppen, a German military
attach in Paris (Johnson). Many years passed before the truth was uncovered, Dreyfus was innocent
and although false information was used he was an easy target because the writing in the bordereau
matched his handwriting and the information came from an artillery officer (Johnson). In 1899, Alfred
Dreyfus was granted a presidential pardon and it is unwritten that he had committed treason against
Dragnev 3 France (Martin). It was a matter of life or death because Dreyfus feared that he would not
survive the well known penal colony. The bordereau looked to connect an artillery officer since it
intended access to specific information regarding a new French artillery weapon called the Modele
1890 120mm Banquet howitzer (Read). Along with the fact that Dreyfus was a highly skilled artillery
officer, he was

The Use Of Technology In Neil Postman s Brave New World
The invention of technology has made life easier but has it really helped? Neil Postman s writing
AMUSING OURSELVES TO DEATH from 1985 brings up the concern about the use of new
technology and how it s negatively affecting our society. Neil Postman s unique and very fitting title
AMUSING OURSELVES TO DEATH helps to portray what Postman tries to explain through this
writing. Postman also uses two authors Orwell who s the author of Nineteen Eighty Four and Huxley s
who is the author of Brave New World . The transition from the market of ideas to the market of
images that technology has made. Postman writing AMUSING OURSELVES TO DEATH conveys
valid points about technology and the affect it has on society but it s debatable whether technology is
good or bad. Postman s use of Orwell and Huxley to show that there can be a problem but two
different reasons to why that has become a problem. The problem being that Postman believes that
with the use of technology, we as a society will become useless. How does Orwell and Huxley fit into
this well What Orwell feared were those who would ban books. What Huxley feared was that there
would be no reason to ban a book, for there would be no one who wanted to read one (Postman 14).
Orwell believe that someone like a dictator that would take away or ability to think and learn and we
wouldn t have control over it. Huxley believes that we would lose our will to want to learn. As how
does this connect to Technology and

The Sarbanes Oxley ( Sox ) Act Of 2002
The Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) Act of 2002 was legislated by Congress to restore reliability of financial
statements with the objectives to raise standards of corporate accountability, to not only improve
detection, but to also prevent fraud and abuse (Terando Kurtenbach, 2009). Additionally, SOX was the
response to general failure of business ethics such as the propagation of abusive tax shelters and
greater aggressive tax avoidance strategies (Raabe, Whittenburg, Sanders, Sawyers, 2015).
Tax Advantages of Sarbanes Oxley
Considering the tax planning, SOX identify the potential risks of the similar firm conducting both tax
services and auditing for a business by changing the relationship between the audit Committee of
company and external auditors, thus providing a new obligation for the tax services to be pre approved
by the audit committee while the auditors are not limited from the tax services they can offer
(Piotroski Srinivasan, 2007). The Security Exchange Commission specifies that the audit committee in
charge of retention and appointment of auditors must examine first, transactions primarily suggested
by the accountant of the firm, secondly transactions which the only purpose is tax evasion, and lastly
the treatment of tax that may not be assisted by the Internal Revenue Code of the United States and
associated regulations (Piotroski Srinivasan, 2007). Tax evasion constitutes the illegal nonpayment of
tax and cannot be condoned (Raabe, et al., 2015). Those three

BAD BREADTH, LONG LIFE Break out the mints: Italian researcher recently found that people who

Analysis Of The Immigration Experience Of Calvin
SOC375 Final Essay

Introduction
The purpose of this paper is to provide an analysis of the immigration experience of Calvin who came
to Canada from Hong Kong in 1997 in order to avoid the negative repressions of the transition from
British to Chinese rule. Sociologists that have been read for this class claim or found that about
international migration is a combination of micro and macro as well as push and pull factors. For this
paper, the neoclassical model, as discussed by Massey et al, will be discussed as it focuses more on
the individual cost benefit analysis that compelled Calvin s family to come to Canada than ... Show

It is for this reason that the macro element of the neoclassical model is less useful but nevertheless
warrants mention. It involves finding equilibrium among different markets but Calvin s situation has
more to do with the particular situation in Hong Kong and the family s perceived advantages of
traveling to Canada. For instance, at the micro level, notes from Session 2 indicate that migration is
caused by rational cost/benefit analysis of individual actors and expected destination earnings
(observed earnins x probability of employment) → maximizing returns to human capital . While it
was not only employment option alone that motivated the decision; indeed, for Calvin the calculus
significantly involved education, but overall the decision had to do with perceived income. There was
less concern with loss of freedom, from what Calvin said in the interview, then there was with reduced
economic opportunities. It would be prudent at this point to investigate the broader social context of
migration from Hong Kong that influenced his migration/integration experience. According to Chu
(2013), In 1995, Fortune wrote a cover story for its international edition entitled The Death of Hong
Kong, claiming that the naked truth about Hong Kong s future can be summed up in two words: Its
over.

The Importance Of Technology Literacy In Students Learning
Technology literacy plays a significant role in students learning. It is therefore crucial for educators to
incorporate learning lessons and techniques that will help students build and strengthen their
technology skills (McLaughlin, 2015). The literacy web tool that I am interested in exploring more
extensively is Diigo. Diigo is an annotation tool that encourages students to collect resources, gather
web pages, and add sticky notes and comments on their web page provided from the site (Diigo,
2017). Essential this site serves as a personal library where students can make notes and post
interesting and helpful sources all in one place (Diigo, 2017). Students will also have the opportunity
to share their web pages with classmates. What makes this site exciting is that students can upload a
PDF file right onto their web page and make notes directly on the document. Therefore, students can
opt to read science articles, take notes, highlight important information and complete assignments
right on their computer.
In today s education, students are expected to read and understand complex texts, read higher level
informational texts, expand their academic vocabulary and communicate their reading and learning
abilities through writing, to meet the Common Core Standards (Buehl, 2014). By using this annotation
web tools, students can build and develop essential literacy skills that will help them build
sophisticated vocabulary, comprehend complex text, and understand important

My favorite three words from this pyramid are Friendship, Alertness, Intentness. Firstly, friendship is one of my favorite words because it is something that I use in activites I am in so everyone feels like its a second family. When I went to Science Olympiad for testing, a strong bond of friendship was formed between me and a couple other of the students there, it really help create a form of unity that can only come from a team. It really helped everyone s nerves that day and calmed down people s fears. My second word I picked is alertness. Alertness is something I love because it has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Steeple Vs Eagen Case Study Steeple v. Eagen Eagen was in a situation where his instructor, and possibly other students, were in danger. Each state and the federal government allow for the right to self defense. However, states have developed rules which define when self defense is allowed. Factors that must be examined are the imminent nature of the threat, reasonable nature of the threat, proportional response, duty to retreat versus stand your ground, and beyond. Eagen was within his right to respond to Steeple. Miller et. al states a more succinctly phrased test to determine if self defense is applicable. Miller et. al questions, Was the defendant privileged to use force to defend herself, and was the degree of force that she used reasonable? A person may defend themselves against any threat of physical contact or confinement. The notion of whether the threat is negligent or intentional is irrelevant. In fact, the defendant does not even have to be harmed to use this defense. Based on the idea that self preservation is the first law of nature even in err, a defendant must genuinely believe there is a threat. For example, if a police officer shoots and kills a criminal known to be armed who reached in their pocket for keys, the officer still can claim self defense because the notion the criminal was pulling out a gun, based on their background, is reasonable. Likewise, Eagan perceived not only imminent danger but a deadly danger that would likely have left Bonds dead if he had not responded. The fact that the danger was no real, has zero bearing on the legal situation. Another issue at hand is proportional response or reasonable force. It could be argued that Eagen responded in a disproportionate manner that led to the broken leg of Steeple. However, this argument is mitigated by the fact the deadly force may be used to address a threat of equal deadly force. Eagan did not likely intend to break Steeple s leg, only intending to prevent Steeple s aggression from escalation. However, this is largely irrelevant from a legal standpoint. At the time of Eagan s actions, Steeple was seemingly choking Bonds. Choking can equate to deadly force. If the simulation were real and Steeple continued to choke Bonds, he would succumb to ... • 6. Analysis Of Acquainted With The Night In Company of the Moon and Inner Sorrow, Acquainted with the Night In Robert Frost s poem, Acquainted with the Night , there is a sense of melancholic loneliness of which the speaker seems to be content with. The reader sees a glimpse of his perpetual depression on a habitual night time walk. He starts by saying he is one acquainted with the night (line 1). He feels a sort of companionship with this time of day. Ironically enough, while most everyone else is asleep and quiet, he feels a sense of belonging. The speaker personifies the city through parallels of his own lonely depression. Having walked out in rain and back in rain shows that despite the weather, he is persistent in his practice (line 2). The rain is symbolic of a gloomy mood or even a rough patch in one s life. In this case, the rain is parallel to his actuality. As it rains for an extended period, we can infer that the persona has suffered with depression for some time. Underlying causes of his sadness are not clear. However, the reader gets the impression he lives a life alone. His sense of being is encompassed in the imagery of the somber city streets. He is lonely, a continual moment of subtle dread haunts his life. The repetition of the phrase, I have , at the beginning of the first four lines is significant as it shows all he experiences on these walks. The walk seems to be a nightly ritual, perhaps a way to clear his thoughts. Insomnia is often linked with feelings of emptiness in a depressed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. What Is The Difference Between Roark And Peter Keating Howard Roark and Peter Keating s means of achieving success diverge in that Keating assumes the caliber of his outcomes on the approval of others through his application of external guidance whereas Roark disclaims any external sentiment toward his work; he operates independent from the judgement of others and external impacts on his product. In order to evaluate the fortune of these two characters, success must be delineated. One application of achievement establishes it on the measurement of how well one executes a task, and their procurance. Many gauge their earnings through interactions with others; to an extent, social conditioning generates human dependence. The Fountainhead, however, confronts this conception of success with a jarring contrast between Keating s and Roark s paths. Roark s approach to accomplishment inheres in his independence from the opinions of others whereas a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, a pattern emerges in an evaluation of Keating s path to success ; it indicates advancement through his ultimate resignation to the jurisdiction and ideals of others, a quality derived from his character throughout Rand s novel. Guy Francon reiterates the dean s assertion that all the proper forms of expression have been discovered long ago (24), and emphasizes the ideals of the Stanton Institute of Technology as he depicts Truth an aspect of architecture as purposed toward the traditions of our Art (27). • 8. Cloned Meat Cloned meat has been founded on December 28 2006, the United States Food Drug Administration (FDA) gave preliminary approval for meat and dairy products from cloned animals to be sold as food for human consumption. They also stated that labeling of cloned food would not be required because of the approval of the FDA. When they stated that cloned meat didn t require labeling for their food products, which automatically brought up a red flag because people should have the right to know whether or not they re eating cloned offspring or home grown meat. How would that make you feel; what would your reaction be? Well let me tell you; you might feel disgusted, clueless, or confused, because you wouldn t have any idea of what type of food or production ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While reviewing this website, I ve come to understand that cloning meat is and has been treacherous to us for providing harm to our farm animals by giving them high doses of different chemicals, making them live with birth defects and making statements to deceive the public by saying it s a harmless process that enhances and multiply the breed of animals when it really does not. The scariest part to this issue is our animals suffer and so do we if we re meat consumers. (Dan Kedmey) Then studies have proven that bacteriological meat contamination in the US, for the first time was enacted in 1906 when the Pure Food and Drug Act was signed by laws in regards of banning infected and mislabeled products from the interstate commerce. Observations about those risks were associated with bacteriological meat contamination, and about how it should be regulated, has changed significantly since then. This article focuses particularly on changes that have occurred in bacteriological meat contamination standards in the US since the early 1980s when E. coli was for the first time identified as a new foodborne pathogen associated with the consumption of undercooked meat. The idea of cloning farm animals is to produce replicas of the animals with the highest economic value, for example the fastest growing pigs or the highest yielding dairy cows to make a profit off of. However the process of cloning itself causes our animals suffering. Animals with the highest economic value are prone to developing severe health problems, pushed to their physical limits; they are destined to a lifetime of suffering. The Cloning equals Cruelty campaign highlighted intrinsic animal welfare issues for selective breeding in animals for food, meat and dairy. Research also shows that many cloned farm animals are born with deformed organs and live short and miserable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Blockbuster History The legacy encompassing the coexistence of blockbuster and independent films are quite interesting and somewhat complex. History shows that at one point the word blockbuster had nothing to do with a movie production and originated back in the 1940s. Blockbuster was describing how large bombs can destroy city blocks in Hamburg during World War 11. The term took on new meaning referring to anything capable of public impact. Another illustration of this would be when a hyped play was expected to be very successful and competing theaters were busted and put out of business. Soon the term blockbuster would become a dominant marketing tool in the world of theater and film production representing anticipated hits or big box office sales. In other words, blockbusters were used interchangeably to the concept of major studios. The movie Jaws in 1975 one of Steven Spielberg classics was a direct beneficiary of this cultural phenomenon. The movie grossed well over $100,000.00 in ticket sales and laid the foundation of the New Hollywood s blockbuster era. Movies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many independent films were marked by less investment resources and were politically inferior to the studios which affected how films were produced, directed and distributed, and not to mention landmark Supreme Court decisions. It is important to note at one time the major studios (back then known as the Big Five) were once independent studios prior to the obliteration of the MPPC patents that where owned by The Edison Trust which dominated major legal rights to the technology of the industry. The nonviolent methods used by Randall Robinson, Mahatma Gandhi, and Cesar Chavez are what set them apart from other rights activists. Many people around the world owe their freedom and inspiration to these three activists who have improved the lives of billions. Throughout history, Africans have faced racism in and out of their home countries. Randall Robinson was one of the many African American rights activists and helped bring South Africans the rights they deserved. Robinson said many times that he was inspired by Martin Luther King Jr., who stated that being peaceful was a surer way to equality. Robinson s participation in a quiet act of civil disobedience in 1984 set in motion a radical change in American policy toward South Africa s discriminatory apartheid regime. (). (African American Registry). Later in his life he lived in a self imposed exile from the United States because he felt that America continued to mistreat African Americans. Reaction Rate Lab; Concentration (Mg + 2HCl H2+ MgCl2) Purpose: How do different concentrations of Hydrochloric Acid (0.1 M, 0.5 M, 1.0 M, 2.0 M) affect the rate of reaction when reacting with Magnesium ribbon strips? Hypothesis: If the hydrochloric acid has a greater concentration (2.0 M), there will be a greater reaction rate than with a lower concentration (1.0 M, 0.5 M, 0.1 M). This is because if there is a greater concentration, the chance of the reactants colliding is greater, thus leading to a faster reaction and therefore a faster reaction rate. Medical Malpractice Crisis Analysis Implications of the medical malpractice crisis One implication of the medical malpractice crisis is that specialists in high risk fields are considering and/or leaving their practice which is drastically affecting the quality of patient care; treatment for patients who need specialists is declining rapidity (Cline Pepine). Insurance rates are so high that many doctor s either can t afford it and/or do not think it is worth staying in the practice. Patients are often forced to travel long distance for a specialist; waiting long hours at an overcrowded doctor s office with less efficiency in the quality of medical care (Cline Pepine). Another implication of the medical malpractice crisis is that a huge reason that insurance rates continue to skyrocket is the cost of court defense/attorney fees when a doctor loses which averages a half a million dollars (Abadinsky, 2014); it is also the reason why so many lawyers are eager to sue doctors. A Psychoanalysis on Ridley Scott’s Alien” A Psychoanalysis on Ridley Scott s Alien In 1923 Sigmund Freud noticed the clash within thought and mental processes which led him to identify three parts of our psyche. He referred to these as the Id, Ego and the Superego. The Id is the primitive, unconscious basis of the psyche, dominated by primary urges *. It comes from the initial instinct to satisfy our needs and desires what can be known as the pleasure principle. The uncontrollable repressed part of our psyche, for example a newborn child is primarily id controlled. However external contact with the outside world shapes and develops the psyche. At this point the ego develops. The ego governs and controls the id. The ego is partly conscious and can gather information for making ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the introduction, the author tries to tell the readers about the adverse effects of omission in health care. The study does not have research about the reasons why the nursing staff has omitted care (Polit, Beck, 2008). The problem statement is clearly and directly stated. The methods used in collecting information have been mentioned in a separate section where they are stated clearly. Lack of the current literature on the subject and the challenges facing health care sector in providing nursing care is an opportunity for anyone to conduct such study. The method that was used in interviewing the target group is consistent with the naturalistic paradigm of qualitative research. The traditional research used in the study has not been mentioned in the introduction. Due to lack of information, one cannot make an assumption about the research problem. He states that it was clear to minorities that the Democratic Party was more supportive of civil rights versus Republicans due to their lack of voting support of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Because of this, Republicans were seen as being against minorities due to their lack of cooperation with the Democratic Party to end segregation and with President Johnson to allow equal voting rights (240 1). Additionally, SOX was the response to general failure of business ethics such as the propagation of abusive tax shelters and greater aggressive tax avoidance strategies (Raabe, Whittenburg, Sanders, Sawyers, 2015). It involves finding equilibrium among different markets but Calvin s situation has more to do with the particular situation in Hong Kong and the family s perceived advantages of traveling to Canada. For instance, at the micro level, notes from Session 2 indicate that migration is caused by rational cost/benefit analysis of individual actors and expected destination earnings (observed earnins x probability of employment) → maximizing returns to human capital . While it was not only employment option alone that motivated the decision; indeed, for Calvin the calculus significantly involved education, but overall the decision had to do with perceived income. There was less concern with loss of freedom, from what Calvin said in the interview, then there was with reduced economic opportunities. It would be prudent at this point to investigate the broader social context of migration from Hong Kong that influenced his migration/integration experience.
