Assignment 2: Project Paper Edwin D Giraldo Professor: Ibrahim H Alsaeed, Ph.D. HUM 112
11/29/14 Abstract In this paper, I choose to discuss three pieces of art from the 19th century
Impressionist period and three from the Post Impressionist period and how these six pieces of art
compare to each style. Then I will draft a memo to the CEO of my company to describe the
appearance, so that they will have an idea of what the art looks like and where it should be placed
throughout the corporate offices. Next, we are going to explain the historical significance for each
piece of artwork that I choose. Finally, I will descried to the CEO of my company how each piece of
art matches the company s overall image. Office ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As for placement of the last three paintings, I decided to put the A Lion Devouring its Prey in the
central work area to show the employees that hard work and dedication will get them the rewards that
they deserve for they have done for the company, the next one, In the Oise in the Valley, could be
placed in the main break room of the company, so that the employees have a place to relax and not be
disturbed in order to get away from the regular environment that any workplace create, even though
just for a little while from their rigorous job, and The Yellow Books could be placed where the
company keeps all its information on the business to represent how the business conducts itself and
what the future holds for the business and all the customers. Explain why each piece is considered to
be historically significant. Pierre Auguste Renoir made his mark historically on the surfaces of his
paintings by using small dabs of pigment that were applied uniformly, but his brush strokes were
somewhat nervous, but yet he used the sunlight effects that were achieved with colored shadows, and

Ethics And Prevention Of Financial Fraud
The Defining Ethics and Prevention of Financial Fraud in the Work Place
Ta Nishia Johnson
Savannah State University
Abstract
This research primarily focuses on ways of preventing financial fraud in the work place as well as
defining the proper ethics to follow. It elaborates on the ways to deter fraud and what ethics should be
taught during training for the job given to an employee. In order to understand the best way to stop
people from committing fraud, we must learn what stipulations are already set in place for the crime.
Company guidelines for fraud detection and prevention should be set in place in order avert fraud. To
better understand why people commit fraud, the study for this research will pay close attention on
ethical associations and ethics that are taking place in the workplace. Ethics plays a major role in the
business workplace by providing guidelines and contouring people s behaviors while working. This
research paper will disclose the following questions:
What procedures are already in place to deal with fraud?
How can fraud be prevented?
Can new measures and guidelines be set in place to better detect fraud?
How to detect fraud in time to prevent major damage?
Keywords: financial fraud, workplace ethics, detection, prevention, implementation

Summary Of The Poem By Li Young Lee
Sadness is the feeling of down or unhappy in response to grief. The Poem To S.M., a Young African
Painter, on Seeing His Works by Phillis Wheatley, is about how a young painter sees himself as he
paints and what he feels. The poem A Story by Li Young Lee, is about a boy who asks his father to tell
him a story but the father cannot remember any. The tone for both of these poems is sadness. I will be
talking about the poetic devices in both of these poems, for example, both of these poems have
enjambment, figurative language, and tone. The first one that is going to be talked about is
Enjambment. Enjambment is the continuation of a sentence without a pause beyond to the end of a
line, couplet, or stanza. In To S.M. an example of this

Sacrifice In Bruce Springsteen s Song, Nebraska
Music is something that is needed in everyday life. It fuels creativity, brings people together, and it
even helps people learn. In Bruce Springsteen s song, Nebraska , it tells the story of Charles
Starkweather, the most notorious killer in Nebraska. Charles Starkweather symbolizes fear for many
people, and will forever haunt not only Nebraska, but the whole world. Lincoln Nebraska seemed like
the perfect place to live. It was a quiet town where everybody seemed to know each other, and nobody
needed to lock their doors at night. It wasn t until December 1, under the cover of darkness, that
everything seemed to change. On that night Charles Starkweather returned to a Lincoln gas station,
robbed the attendant for $100.00, and then led him out a few miles where he proceeded to shoot him
dead. (Spencer). This robbery and murder was just the start of the gruesome spree that had yet to
occur. Almost two months after the killing, with no lead for the case, Starkweather struck again. Caril
Ann Fugate was Starkweather s 14 year old girlfriend, and her parent s didn t like that fact, so they
often got into fights with the 19 year old man. This time, however, Starkweather ended the fight
quickly, killing both Fugate s parents and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was there that they shot and killed industrialist C. Lauer Ward, and stabbed his wife, Clara Ward,
and their maid, Lillian Fencl. (Spencer). They then stole the family s Packard and left town. When
Starkweather and Fugate realized the police and National Guard were on their trail, they decided they
needed a new car for their escape. They reached Douglas, Wyoming and met Merle Collison, an older
shoe salesman sleeping in his car along the highway. Starkweather began to shoot him, stopping after
another car and police officer pulled up. Starkweather then jumped in the Packard and sped off,
pulling over and surrendering after he got shot in the ear.

Analysis Of Tinker Vs. Des Moines, And Bethel V. Fraser
The first amendment, which is considered the right to freedom of speech, is a misconception to many.
Not all citizens, but some, think that because of the first amendment; they can say whatever they want.
Although citizens of the United States have the right to freedom of speech, this freedom of speech is
viewed differently by others. Which leads to confusion as to what can be said and what cannot be said.
Both court cases: Tinker v. Des Moines, and Bethel v. Fraser involved the confusion and
misunderstanding of this first amendment. In December, 1969, a group of students in Des Moines held
a meeting in the home of Christopher Eckhardt to plan a public showing of their support for a truce in
the Vietnam War. 1 These students decided to wear black armbands to show their support. These
students included: John F. Tinker, Hope Tinker, Mary Beth Tinker, Paul Tinker, and Christopher
Eckhardt. Whenever the Principal found out about their plan, he stated that any student found wearing
these black armbands would be suspended.2 Despite the Principal s warning, the students still wore
the black armbands.3 On December 16, Christopher Eckhardt and Mary Beth Tinker wore their black
armbands to school and were sent home. The next day, John Tinker wore his armband and was also
sent home. Because of the protest, the students did not return to school until after New Year s Day.
This was the date they planned to end the protest.4 Parents, of the children who were sent home, were
furious.

Essay on Vertigo
Vertigo
The Alfred Hitchcock film; Vertigo is a narrative film that is a perfect example of a Hollywood
Classical Film. I will be examining the following characteristics of the film Vertigo: 1)individual
characters who act as casual agents, the main characters in Vertigo, 2)desire to reach to goals,
3)conflicts, 4)appointments, 5)deadlines, 6)James Stewart s focus shifts and 7)Kim Novak s characters
drives the action in the film. Most of the film is viewed in the 3rd person, except for the reaction shots
(point of view shot) which are seen through the eyes of the main character.(1st person) The film has a
strong closure and uses continuity editing(180 degree rule). The stylistic (technical) film form of
Vertigo makes the film much more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

asked her out on a date. As they began to fall in love John began to change her into Madeleine. One

John that Gavin was using both of them in his plan to murder his wife. During her confession, Judy
became frightened and fell to her death.
The Hollywood Classical Film characteristics in Vertigo, helps to develop the plot and story. The first
element of a Hollywood Classical Film that I will be examining is that individual characters are casual
agents of the film. This means that characters in a film act as if they really exist, they have goals,
fears, feelings, motives and emotions. The characters in Vertigo who are casual agents are the
following: John Ferguson is the main character, he is a ex cop who suffers from a fear of heights, he is
spying on Madeleine Ellester and eventually falls

A Drifting Year Book Report
In Dany Laferriere`s unique book, A Drifting Year , we are shown the life of an immigrant in a first
person s perspective. His work is a combination of short stories which are more descriptive and poems
which get straight to the point. We are faced with the harsh reality of the life that most immigrants
have to live. Not being able to find a job, getting evicted multiple times, and adapting to a new culture
are all themes presented in the book. Did the narrator do the things he did to survive or for pleasure?
Are some things over exaggerated? While reading the book these questions emerge, but not necessary
answered and left for the readers to determine the answer. In A Drifting Year , many things stood out,

20th Century American Public Schools Essay
Teaching Origins in 20th Century American Public Schools
Introduction
The debate over the origins of the earth and of life has captivated and divided America since the late
19th Century. Evolutionists and creationists have battled in courtrooms , churches , academia , and
public schools over the course of the 20th century and continue fighting, or attempting to make peace
over, this culture war today. The debate has changed between the time of the Scopes Trial and the
present in several important ways. First, creationists have developed many more diverse arguments,
and employ not only biblical and moralistic arguments, but scientific evidence, logical arguments, and
political rhetoric to counter evolutionary theory. Second, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Evolutionary theory has accrued evidence from diverse scientific fields and is now championed as the
centerpiece of biology. Creationism has branched out to include scientific, moralistic, and probabilistic
arguments, and its alliance with fundamentalist Christianity has helped it retain political power.
Toumey asserts that without the churches, academies, colleges, lobbies, rallies, broadcasts, and
mailing lists of the New Religious Right, creationism would be an obscure oddity; with its Religious
Right sponsors, however, it becomes a popular sensation that generates difficult public controversy
about science education.
Evolutionists have largely tried to control curricula at the level of national and state standards, and
view the inclusion of creation models in public schools as a central part of the larger problem of the
poor quality of science education in American schools. Creationists have typically worked on the local
and state level, appealing to first amendment freedoms of religious practice and expression and
attacking the validity of evolutionary theory.
Historical Overview
Since public education in the US has historically been controlled at the local and state level, the
content of and emphasis placed on origins education has varied over time and by locality due to
pressures from creationist and

POW 9: Around the Horn Problem Statement During the time of crossing the overland trail, many

exactly six months after it leaves. With these things, we are also going to assume that: The weather
conditions are perfect and the trip goes exactly as planned. The time zones do not affect anything in

Assuming these things, and having the given knowledge, we are to answer the question, if you were
on a ship leaving from New York, how many ships from San Francisco would you see in passing?
Process At first, I was confused with this problem and did not know what to do. For this problem, I
used only one problem and it was what helped me solve it. With my table group (Derick I), we did a
simulation. We first drew out a large map with the points that every ship should reach at the start of
every month. Then we kept feeding in the blocks (which we used to act as ships) and did the
simulation. Using this strategy, we were able to find the solution. Solution I found that if I were a
traveler on a New York ship bound for San Francisco, I would see SEVEN ships from San Francisco,
California along the way. This is how I

My Interviews About the Game of Soccer Essay
I decided to conduct my Field Assignment Interviews at a park near where I live. The park is Pacific
Hills Park, the park has many different features, such as a soccer field, jungle gyms and people come
and walk their dogs. I decided to ask questions during a few different soccer games over the weekend.
The reason I choose the park is because it s close to my house and there are always soccer games in
the park. I don t know too much about soccer and wanted to get some information about the soccer
experience.
Before walking down to the park I made sure I was prepared with my introduction a few questions

soccer games. I also prepared by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the parents they thought this was a very interesting assignment and gave me some tips in some other
questions I may want to ask as well. They all were kind and wished me luck in the class.
The lesson I learned from the assignment was to make sure to be prepared before going up to someone
and start asking them questions. This is true in the business world as well. You have to make sure you
are prepared in meetings and conference calls in order to conduct business. If I was to just wing it and
walk up to these people without having and introduction they probably would not have giving me the
time of day. I have to say that I did have to be patient and listen. I have a tendency to interrupt people
before they are done talking, which is not a good or polite thing to do. What I learned from our
reading in chapter two this week is that good listeners are liked by others because they satisfy the
basic human needs of being heard. The listening factor for this assignment was listening for
information in search of facts about the questions that I was presenting to them.
When I was finish I was learned that I wasn t embarrassed to talk to people that I didn t know. Going
into this assignment I thought I would have anxiety because I

Interview And The Field Experience
The interview and the field experience occurred on the same day of October 28th, 2016 at 6 pm. We
started with the interview and the meditation followed. During the interview process I sat in a dark
room with Michelle and another licensed witch and her avowed costumer David. We started the
process with explaining childhood religion based experiences. When I asked both Michelle and David
what religion they grew up in they both stated they grew up Southern Baptist and converted at an early
age. Michelle recalled a story where she believes she was in Sunday school and immediately felt as
though she was reincarnated and did not belong in the southern baptist religion. However, David grew
up feeling that everything that Southern Baptist believed was wrong or false according to his own set
of beliefs. It should also be noted that David is a Homosexual male, he described growing up in a
strict Southern Baptist household as complete hell and escaping felt like freedom.
We went on to discuss the media and the open mindedness of my generation. I came into Sojourner
thinking I was going to experience crystal balls and a old woman with long white hair, telling me my
future, I was totally wrong. Ironically, Michelle stated that misinterpretations and stereotypes rarely
happen anymore. Being surrounded by college students people are more open minded, stereotypes
come from older people and they reference the media. We continued to sit and discuss different
movies and shows that

Stigma Of Social Welfare System
The social welfare system in the United States is defined through several different sectors of
government and generally comes along with a negative stigma. When people hear about social welfare
they generally tend to think about the government assistance programs, and not the other programs
such as tax credits or social insurance (Tussing 1974). This paper aims to explain and describe the
social welfare programs, as well as show how widespread social welfare is.
Midgley defines social welfare as a condition or state of human well being that exists when people s
needs are met, problems are managed, and opportunities are maximized (2009). Although, this
definition does cover the basic definition of social welfare, Tussing argues that there are two systems
within the welfare system and gives a greater understanding of the social insurance system (1974).
The stigma that goes along with being associated with social welfare programs generally doesn t
include the policies that are in place to assist the non poor. The PowerPoint argues that there are
different models to social welfare; residual and institutional and different programs; selective and
universal (PowerPoint). The main point difference between the institutional approach and the residual
approach is that the institutional approach is preventative where the residual approach is set up as a
safety net, when something goes wrong (PowerPoint). The institutional approach acknowledges the
need for social services

The World In 6 Glasses Book Report
The first chapter of A History of the World in 6 Glasses taught me about the significance of beer in
many ancient civilizations. Beer has been around for thousands of years and brought about drastic
changes to ancient societies. The discovery and process of brewing beer is something that I had no
knowledge of until reading this book. Beer was discovered between the years 10,000 BCE and 4,00
BCE, after farmers had access to grains and began to store them. After experimenting with grains,
farmers discovered that wet grain becomes intoxicating after being fermented. What surprised me the
most was that the discovery of bread is closely related to the discovery of beer. I never thought that
bread and beer were discovered around the same time, because

Personal Goals Influencing Marriage in the Return of the Native by Thomas Hardy
When one thinks of marriage, images of happiness, faithfulness, and unconditional love come to mind.
Marriages are not for allowing two lovers to accomplish personal goals, but rather for faithful
companions to live the rest of their lives together. In The Return of the Native, Thomas Hardy presents
the reader with two pairs of lovers that marry to accomplish personal goals, not because of a mutual
love and a desire to obtain a lifelong soul mate. Hardy reveals the true motives governing the
participants in the novels marriage alliances: Eustacia, Clym, Thomasin, and Wildeve marry to carry
out their individual plans for the future, rather than for love ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

A bewildered Clym answers It is very beautiful. But will you be mine? . Eustacia then asks even more
questions about Paris, such as, Now tell me of the Tuileries, and the Louvre. (Page201). Frustrated
with the lack of a solid answer from Eustacia, Clym cries I hate talking of Paris! , but this does not
stop Eustacia s constant flow of questions about the city. This is definitely not the expected response
to a proposal of marriage, and further evidences that Eustacia is more interested in a possible life in
Paris than the love of Clym Yeobright.
Clym Yeobright also is interested in marriage to help carryout his own personal goals in life. Before
the two meet face to face, without the mummer costume, Clym is introduced to Eustacia by Sam the
turf cutter. Sam reports to Clym that Eustacia is a handsome girl (Page 183) and that Clym ought to
check her out. Clym s first response to this is, Do you think she would like to teach children? (Page
183). This brief passage shows that when presented with the opportunity to marry, Clym first thinks
about the possibility that she would be willing to help him in his desire to run a school. As the
relationship between the two progresses, Clym talks to his mother about his intent to marry Eustacia.
Naturally, Mrs. Yeobright objects. The first words of defense to come out of Clym s mouth are, She is
excellently educated, and would make a good matron in a boarding school...I can establish a good

are fighting for fate and destiny in the city of Athens, Greece. Hermia, a strong willed young lady,
defies her father s orders to marry Demetrius, another Athenian man, and subsequently runs off to the

Lots of feelings between Hermia, Lysander, Helena and Demetrius are not mutual and are only a series
of unconnected lines from one person to another to another. This truly demonstrates the hardships and
complications of true love and how it does not always go as perfect as planned. Many problems arise
because of the mixups between the love juice and the fairies. One such mixup is when Hermia and
Lysander s plans to elope are very suddenly halted when Helena hears of their plans and tells
Demetrius, who decides to see if Helena s rumors are true. Demetrius then goes into the woods,
followed by Helena, to see if it is true, but does not find the lovers, but instead are seen by Oberon.
Oberon, while having love issues of his own with Titania, sees Helena and her obsessive love for
Demetrius, and so makes a plan to help Helena with her love issues. When Oberon, of which is busy
with other tasks, tells Puck to put the supernatural love juice on the eyes of an Athenian man

An image of a young woman in her late twenties with dark brown hair sitting on her couch watching

Charles Manson Compare And Contrast
Charles Manson early life was complicated with the fact that when Manson was born his mother was a
16 year old, unmarried, Manson s biological father was speculated to be Colonel Walker Scott though,
young lady name Kathleen Maddox and after such said birth Manson was already called Charles
Milles Maddox. At the age of 8 Manson was sent to a school called the National Training School for
Boys by his mother who he ran back to after run away from the school, but his mother wanted nothing
to do with him. Soon after Manson started living on the streets and lived by doing petty crimes that

(Florez). With this being said, this goal is similar to what Grenouille and Manson wanted, to be
remembered even after death. Grenouilles goal was to require the ultimate scent to be accepted by his
town or anywhere else he goes. Mansons goal was to let the world be shocked by the crimes that he
and his group committed. Perhaps that this trait does influence serial killers to kill freely, but when
doing such acts the question someone must ask is the murderer regret what they have done? If
someone has killed another person for a reason, for example self defense, then that is a common
murder to report, but in Grenouilles and Mansons case they did not report the murder because they felt
as though that killing the victim was necessary. Psychopaths tend to not feel any emotion that is
related to guilt... (Uncategorized). In Perfume the killings that Grenouille committed goes beyond of
what Manson has done up until both of their deaths. However, the reason why they killed in the first
place do compare because of their childhood with the way they were both raised and how society has
treated them. Although their stories before they became serial killers are similar, there is not anything
else to compare the two on because Grenouille was smart, sneaky, and worked by himself with each
kill when Manson on the other hand trusted individuals to kill with him and those same individuals

Literary Analysis Of Blackberry Eating By Galway Kinnell
Galway Kinnell speaks about the act of eating delicious blackberries in his poem Blackberry Eating.
The author starts out his poem with a narrative on his tangible experiences when eating the fruit, but
the poem later transitions into the topic of writing words. The topic of eating blackberries serves as an
analogy for language and how perplexing yet marvelous it truly can be. This speaks to how poetry can
be used as a medium to discuss the complexities existing in language itself and how these
complexities can show how poetry encapsulates this artistic literary form. Blackberry Eating uses
alliteration, repetition and specific word choice to convey the image of physically eating a blackberry
while alluding to the tactile process of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kinnell s brilliant use of alliteration is not the only literary device that is effectively used to deliver his
analogy, he also uses repetition to reference the connection with sound and imagery. Repetition is
important because it reiterates the idea wanting to be conveyed. In line 2, Kinnell repeats black in the
same line, black blackberries (2). For this poem repetition is used effectively in that Kinnell is
constantly repeating the word black in blackberry; it reminds the audience subconsciously of the
sound that the words black and blackberry make. In fact the word black is used seven times
throughout the ninety word poem. By repeating certain words, the poem gives emphasis to a particular
topic or theme it wants to convey. In Blackberry Eating Kinnell also uses repetition to emphasize the
imagery narrated in this poem. By stressing the black color of this berry, it allows readers to truly
capture the picture Kinnell is painting of the berry as well as the sound the word black makes. This
alludes to the topic of choosing words which is shown in the second half of the poem.
In addition to using such literary devices to exemplify sound and imagery, Kinnell picks out words in
his poem while discussing the process of choosing words.

Essay on Lysistrata
Lysistrata is a play written in 411 BC by Aristophanes. At that time in Greek history, the city states
were constantly warring with one another. Consequently, the women were left at home. One woman,
Lysistrata, was so fed up with the fighting that she called all of the women of Greece to a meeting.
When they finally showed up, Lysistrata presented her plan for peace: no sex until the wars ceased.
She eventually convinced all of the other women that this was the only way to bring peace to the land.
The men were miserable and ultimately they negotiated a treaty to stop the hostilities. This play has its
merits and its downfalls. As a whole, however, it is well written, humorous, and most importantly, it
has a purpose. On first glance, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the opening of the play, Lysistrata has called a meeting of all the women and is impatiently waiting
for them. She says that she has spent long, sleepless nights agonizing over the solution to the wars.
She tells Kalonike, quot;Only we women can save Greece! quot; As the rest of the women arrive, she
informs them of her plan. The women are resistant to the idea of no sex at first. They then realize that
what Lysistrata says is true.
The women take an oath and swear to one another that they will have nothing to do with their
husbands until the wars cease. Aristophanes use of women as the peacemakers shows the natural role
of women as nurturers. He is displaying how life should be, without war. In times of peace, men are
working at home alongside their wives. When war comes about, women are left to do all the work,
domestic and otherwise.
This upsets the balance of daily life. Aristophanes is urging his fellow Greeks to restore peace and
therefore life as they once knew it. As the play progresses, the men are in extreme pain and agony
from the withholding of sexual activities. They come to the conclusion, grudgingly, that the women
are indeed correct. To renew Greece, the fighting must end. And they are the ones with whom it has to
begin.
The men arrange a treaty and then celebrate with the others, Athenian and Spartan alike. But, as I can
imagine, all, women and men, are anxious to get home. With this play,

1956, right after the devastating World War II. After WWII that s when the American dream was in
full force throughout the whole world. Many Immigrants were trying to migrate to the US at that time
for a better living. At the same time media was becoming big and powerful gaining trust from citizens
while television was on its peak being the most important part of the media growth as it exported an
immense number news to consumers. While Americans were busy with the new experience of having,

Free Slides In The Music Industry
Drowned in Sound states that 95% of music downloads in 2008 were illegal. So what do artists
receive for all their hard work? The answer is that they receive close to nothing and their lack of
revenue from music downloads could very well lead to drastic changes in the music industry. Not only
do they receive little revenue, but they also need money to keep making music, and to support
themselves. I believe that music consumers should pay for their music rather than listen to it on free
apps or download it illegally.
To begin with, artists make so little money from free downloads, if they are even paid at all. Willie

A Brief Note On Canada And The United States Essay
Accessibility About 80% of Canadian claims that they have a family doctor and 64% of the population
claim to have a dentist. In another word, the healthcare in Canada is considered to be highly
accessible. Unfortunately, the system does have its flaws in situations such as the aboriginals, the
people with disabilities, and for the populations that lives outside the urban areas have less accessible
healthcare providers. For many instances, the dweller of the rural and reserves areas would have to
travel for hours to find a clinic and for others it is simply not available. Compare to Canada, in the
USA, healthcare is currently not accessible to all Americans but only to certain societal groups that are
less fortunate. It is estimated that by 2019, the uninsured population in the States may increase to 65.7
million people, or 23.2% of the population. The U.S. population has a constant stable growing rate,
which means the U.S. healthcare systems will have to provide for an even larger population than it
already has. The U.S. population is expected to increase by 325 million by 2020; the population will
increase by about 20%. All this to say that it is crucial that America tries to make healthcare more
accessible and available to the entire population not solely to the indigents and seniors for the better of
the society. If this situation is not resolved, it will only cause more deficiency in the American
healthcare system and making the situation worse than it already is.

Jane Eyre and Feminism
Charlotte Bronte s novel Jane Eyre embraces many feminist views in opposition to the Victorian
feminine ideal. Charlotte Bronte herself was among the first feminist writers of her time, and wrote
this book in order to send the message of feminism to a Victorian Age Society in which women were
looked upon as inferior and repressed by the society in which they lived. This novel embodies the
ideology of equality between a man and woman in marriage, as well as in society at large. As a
feminist writer, Charlotte Bronte created this novel to support and spread the idea of an independent
woman who works for herself, thinks for herself, and acts of her own accord.

The Communist Manifesto And Das Kapital
Karl Marx
A German philosopher, economist, journalist and revolutionary scientist, Marx was best known for his
work in economics. He laid the foundations for today s theories of labor and capital. The Communist
Manifesto and Das Kapital were among the most famous of his published works. Born to a middle
class family in Trier, Prussia in 1818, his parents were Jewish, but converted to Christianity in 1816
due to strict anti Jewish laws. He was baptized as a Christian at the age of six but later on became an
atheist (Staff, 2009). He received his education in universities of Berlin and Jena and started following
G.W.F. Hegel, the German philosopher whom at that time was seeking a dialectical system of
philosophy. In 1842, He became editor of a liberal democratic newspaper in Cologne called the
Rheinische Zeitung. He had worked with the newspaper until 1843 when the Prussian authorities shut
it down for becoming outlandish in its reports. The same year after the paper was shut down, he went
to Paris to co edit a new political review. Marx adopted an extreme form of socialism which called for
a revolution by the working class that would tear down the capitalist world. This ideology will be
known as communism. In Paris, he befriended Friedrich Engels, a fellow Prussian who shared his
views and was to become a lifelong collaborator. In 1845, due to his writings and ideas, Marx was
removed from France and settled in Brussels. There, Marx renounced his Prussian nationality and

The Black Power Movement
Black Power was a call to action of black people to deny an established racist society, to acknowledge
their ancestors and history and to unite their black communities to gain the power to make a change.
The SNCC believed that in order to develop black power they needed to close their ranks and organize
themselves before reaching for something else. It encouraged people to take charge of their own lives
and organizations rather than relying on whites influence. Black Power was a build up of strength and
power in black communities to change previous white institutions and power structures that have been
established for hundreds of years. Blacks did not want black visibility but rather a chance to change
society for the better. The steps of black power were more radical than their predecessors. These
included a reshaping and redefining of the black community. SNCC and Carmichael believed in order
to rebuild the black community a sense of unity and togetherness needed to be created. Black Power
would make blacks acknowledge their past and their roots and develop a new consciousness that
would establish their role in their communities. Another step was political modernization in which
blacks questioned and challenged old values of the white power institution to incorporate their own
values. This political ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Followers of the Black Power movement wanted whites role within the movement to only be

communities and work to get rid of racism since they had access that blacks did not. The movement
also believed that blacks should and must fight back (52); they did not advocate for non violence
because they had the right to protect themselves. Followers of the movement wanted whites to know

The World Of Mysteries And Wonders
The TV flashed the commercial I had seen more times than I could count. Various scenes of a fantasy
world flitted across the screen while a slightly overdramatic voiceover played up pretty much every
trope imaginable.
Imagine a world with infinite possibilities...
A nomadic trading caravan traveled through a desert sandstorm with their wares packed on the backs
of strange beasts.
A world of unending adventures...
A group of large, muscular people wearing leather and fur armors with rough looking weapons stood
off against a very aggressive looking mammoth like beast in the middle of a snow covered forest.
A world of mysteries and wonders...
A dwarven miner chipping away some rock in an underground cave, revealing a strange, glowing ...

However, since most of my coworkers have similar interests we get along pretty well, and most of us
were anticipating the release of SWO.
Morning Nathan. Ready for what will probably be the longest Friday at the office in a while?
As I walked into the office I was greeted by my coworker, Erik. He, like me, was clearly already
mentally ready for the weekend and playing the game judging by the fact that the SWO website was
up on his computer rather than any work. Luckily it was a holiday weekend, so the boss honestly wasn
t expecting much from us today. Additionally, a lot of us had put in a few extra vacation days as well
to get as much playtime in as possible. I actually had all of the next week off, since I had a lot of
vacation time banked up and rarely actually use any of it.
Hey Erik, let s grab some coffee and get this day over with.
We chuckled and headed to the break room, mugs in hand. This was something like a morning ritual
for us. We d go get some coffee, chat for a bit, then get to work. Today the chatting inevitably ended
up on SWO.
So, you gonna go random, or design your character?
I ll most likely go random. It s worth it to try, after all. And no matter what you end up with, the game
should be fun.
SWO s character creation was one of the things that had received a lot of discussion. In addition to a
large number of races to choose from, players would also be given the option of randomizing their

Golden Age Of Piracy Research Paper
Pirate Essay
Pirates to most people resemble an iconic stereotype. This is that hollywood image that depicts pirates
wearing eyepatches, walking with wooden legs, and out in the sea searching for treasure. Although
some of these aspects resemble a Pirate the history of Pirates and Piracy in the sea is quite interesting.
Piracy in the sea dates back long ago around the 2nd century BC. According to the website Famous
Pirates the authors state that Piracy came into existence shortly after the creation of first organized
naval trading. This would make sense since these merchant ships would carry valuable goods around
unprotected. Meaning that eventually somebody would figure out that it s possible to raid these ships
and loot all of the the valuables. Piracy carried on for several centuries, seeing activity in the
Mediterranean, and even in Southeast Asia. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is the period that most of us are familiar with because it starred piracy in the Caribbean. In the
video The Golden Age of Piracy by Its History the host explains that after the Spanish conquered the
Carribeans they had all this access to the valuable resources on the islands for themselves. Other world
powers such as the English, the French, and the Dutch also wanted apart of this treasure. The English,
French, and Dutch decided to hire Privateers to attack the Spanish Merchant Ships ultimately trying to
deprive Spain of their resources. For example, in the article Piracy in the Caribbean the authors stated
that Pirates were also given legal status . . . privateers were used in the Caribbean by rival nations to
attack treasure ships heading back to their home country. Basically saying, Piracy actually became
legal for a period of time and was encouraged by world powers at the time. These privateers were

Linux Network Name Spaces
Overview
In this paper we will discuss the Linux Network Name Space. First, the concept of namespaces will be
described along with an overview of the default name spaces available in the Linux operating system.
The Linux Network Name Space is a key enabler for some high profile virtualization technologies
including OpenStack and Docker.
Linux Name Spaces
Linux consists of the following six namespaces:
Network Network Namespace
PID Process Namespace
Mount Filesystem Namespace
User User Namespace
IPC Interprocess Communication Namespace
UTS Host and NIS Namespace
Linux namespaces can be traced back to early UNIX technologies called chroot, process jails
controlled where access is controlled with cgroups. The concept of a namespace is to isolate processes
from other processes on the system. This concept evolved into namespaces that are created with
clone() system call and manipulated with the setns() and unshare() system calls. The clone() system
call is used when creating child namespace from a parent or root namespace. As the name would
suggest this creates a clone of an existing stack. The setns() system call is used to join a namespace.
The unshare() system call is used for moving processes into a namespace, as the name suggests the

The Negative Stereotypes In The Last Of The Mohicans
Hollywood movies have shaped perceptions of North American culture through the storytelling of
facts, fiction, history and myths. For a time there was no other genre that has become more important
to Hollywood in a culture driven industry fueled by formulas. As a film genre nothing was so
adaptable towards American sensibilities as the Western. Set in the nineteenth century where a large
section of the United States was still undiscovered; it is known as the Wild West. The central plot of a
western film is the classic goal of maintaining law and order on the frontier in an action, adventure
story. Directors would maintain this melodramatic formula by using archetypal characters that the
audience readily recognizes from frequent appearances. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A brief summary is about three trappers, whom are associated with the Mohican tribe, are protecting a
British Colonel s daughters in the midst of the French and Indian War or the Seven s Year War. The
movie was one of the few films to depict that Native Americans can be noble, yet it focuses too much
attention on the savageness of Native Americans who cut out hearts and burn people alive. Although
not all Native Americans were good; it upped the violence committed by the negative stereotype to
heighten the romance and entertainment. Another point to notice was the perceptive used to narrate the
film. The English and French militaries played an important factor that gives the audience assess to a
foreigners perspective while trying to possess the new land. Although the name of the film is based on
the last chief of the Mohicans, Chingachgook and his son Uncas, the central perspective of the film is
about Hawkeye, an English born scout, who living as a native and mediator throughout the action. In
the hunting scene from the opening of the film, the viewer s gaze follows Hawkeye s actions as he
chases the animal to running, stripping of his shirt to killing the deer. The point of view carries a
significant approach for a film that strengthens the overall storytelling aspect, and using the mediator
who was not a Mohican, the film loses the real history it could have told to the audience from the eyes
of an actual American Indian. The film evocatively set in Hawkeye s point of view watching the
battles as an outsider looking in. It also notices the struggles and forces that were against Hawkeye,
while the survivors of the Mohican tribe play backseat to him. The use of the savage Indian takes on
many roles in earlier films before directors tried to represent Native Americans as similar to equal as

The Indian Act Was Enacted In 1867 By Parliament Of Canada
The Indian Act was enacted in 1867 by the Parliament of Canada. The Department of Aboriginal
Affairs and Northern Development administered the act. The act defines who an Indian is and the
legal rights of the Aboriginal people in Canada. Regulation of the economic system between
aboriginal people and the government of Canada is included in the Indian Act. It also includes the
power the ministers have on the aboriginal people including children and disabled Aboriginals. If the
laws are not obeyed, the punishment is written in the act. The Indian Act was influenced by the
legislative foundation of the Royal Proclamation, 1763, which recognized Aboriginals as a distinct
political unit (Residential schools). The Royal Proclamation, 1763, thought that it was their duty to
protect the Aboriginal people from the Canadian society. The Royal Proclamation, 1763, had the
responsibility for Aboriginal affairs in Canada with British imperial authorities. However, by the mid
1800s Britain began to transfer this responsibility to Canadian colonies. Then the Canadian authorities
passed the First Indian Act. Over the years many amendments have been made to the Indian Act.The
Indian act passed out a law that any children under the ages of 16 had to study at Residential schools
(Residential schools), the children there were physically abused, especially girls. (Churchill, 55 56).
The Indian act is significant today because on June, 11 2008, Prime Minister Stephen Harper, on

Mayan Civilization
The Mayan Civilization grew to become one of the most advanced civilizations in the Americas. This
civilization was developed by the Maya peoples and was noted for its many advancements in all

They were skilled architects, building great cities of stone that remain even a thousand years after their
civilization fell into decline. This allowed for the study of Mayan architecture and culture. The
architecture of the Mayans is one of the last things that is still available for study of the Mayan
culture, as the buildings built by the Mayans were often covered with many stone carvings. These
stone carvings were a way to show the vast history and beliefs of the Maya. Unlike the other early
civilizations the Mayans also decorated with paint and stucco statues. The Maya built pyramids,
temples, palaces, walls, residences and more. The Maya built a great deal of temples and pyramids
allowing archaeologists to realize the importance of religion and sacrifice of the Maya peoples. The
Maya also built their villages in plazas. These plazas are rarely neat and orderly and to some it may
seem as if the Maya built anywhere they pleased. The plazas may have seemed unorderly at a glance,
however the Maya peoples were very wise and built on irregular shaped higher ground in order to
avoid natural disasters such as floods, which was a very common thing in the tropical forests they
settled in. (Christopher Minster). However, even though the architecture was a major contributor to
the popularity of the Mayans, agriculture was perhaps one of the largest reasons they flourished for so

  • 4. Summary Of The Poem By Li Young Lee Sadness is the feeling of down or unhappy in response to grief. The Poem To S.M., a Young African Painter, on Seeing His Works by Phillis Wheatley, is about how a young painter sees himself as he paints and what he feels. The poem A Story by Li Young Lee, is about a boy who asks his father to tell him a story but the father cannot remember any. The tone for both of these poems is sadness. I will be talking about the poetic devices in both of these poems, for example, both of these poems have enjambment, figurative language, and tone. The first one that is going to be talked about is Enjambment. Enjambment is the continuation of a sentence without a pause beyond to the end of a line, couplet, or stanza. • 5. Sacrifice In Bruce Springsteen s Song, Nebraska Music is something that is needed in everyday life. It fuels creativity, brings people together, and it even helps people learn. In Bruce Springsteen s song, Nebraska , it tells the story of Charles Starkweather, the most notorious killer in Nebraska. Charles Starkweather symbolizes fear for many people, and will forever haunt not only Nebraska, but the whole world. Lincoln Nebraska seemed like the perfect place to live. It was a quiet town where everybody seemed to know each other, and nobody needed to lock their doors at night. It wasn t until December 1, under the cover of darkness, that everything seemed to change. On that night Charles Starkweather returned to a Lincoln gas station, robbed the attendant for $100.00, and then led him out a few miles where he proceeded to shoot him dead. (Spencer). This robbery and murder was just the start of the gruesome spree that had yet to occur. Almost two months after the killing, with no lead for the case, Starkweather struck again. Caril Ann Fugate was Starkweather s 14 year old girlfriend, and her parent s didn t like that fact, so they often got into fights with the 19 year old man. This time, however, Starkweather ended the fight quickly, killing both Fugate s parents and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was there that they shot and killed industrialist C. They reached Douglas, Wyoming and met Merle Collison, an older shoe salesman sleeping in his car along the highway. • 6. Analysis Of Tinker Vs. Des Moines, And Bethel V. Fraser The first amendment, which is considered the right to freedom of speech, is a misconception to many. Not all citizens, but some, think that because of the first amendment; they can say whatever they want. Although citizens of the United States have the right to freedom of speech, this freedom of speech is viewed differently by others. Which leads to confusion as to what can be said and what cannot be said. Both court cases: Tinker v. Des Moines, and Bethel v. Fraser involved the confusion and misunderstanding of this first amendment. In December, 1969, a group of students in Des Moines held a meeting in the home of Christopher Eckhardt to plan a public showing of their support for a truce in the Vietnam War. 1 These students decided to wear black armbands to show their support. These students included: John F. Tinker, Hope Tinker, Mary Beth Tinker, Paul Tinker, and Christopher Eckhardt. Whenever the Principal found out about their plan, he stated that any student found wearing these black armbands would be suspended.2 Despite the Principal s warning, the students still wore the black armbands.3 On December 16, Christopher Eckhardt and Mary Beth Tinker wore their black armbands to school and were sent home. The next day, John Tinker wore his armband and was also sent home. Because of the protest, the students did not return to school until after New Year s Day. This was the date they planned to end the protest.4 Parents, of the children who were sent home, were furious. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first element of a Hollywood Classical Film that I will be examining is that individual characters are casual agents of the film. This means that characters in a film act as if they really exist, they have goals, fears, feelings, motives and emotions. • 9. 20th Century American Public Schools Essay Teaching Origins in 20th Century American Public Schools Introduction The debate over the origins of the earth and of life has captivated and divided America since the late 19th Century. Evolutionists and creationists have battled in courtrooms , churches , academia , and public schools over the course of the 20th century and continue fighting, or attempting to make peace over, this culture war today. The debate has changed between the time of the Scopes Trial and the present in several important ways. First, creationists have developed many more diverse arguments, and employ not only biblical and moralistic arguments, but scientific evidence, logical arguments, and political rhetoric to counter evolutionary theory. Second, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Evolutionary theory has accrued evidence from diverse scientific fields and is now championed as the centerpiece of biology. Creationism has branched out to include scientific, moralistic, and probabilistic arguments, and its alliance with fundamentalist Christianity has helped it retain political power. Toumey asserts that without the churches, academies, colleges, lobbies, rallies, broadcasts, and mailing lists of the New Religious Right, creationism would be an obscure oddity; with its Religious Right sponsors, however, it becomes a popular sensation that generates difficult public controversy about science education. Evolutionists have largely tried to control curricula at the level of national and state standards, and view the inclusion of creation models in public schools as a central part of the larger problem of the poor quality of science education in American schools. Creationists have typically worked on the local and state level, appealing to first amendment freedoms of religious practice and expression and attacking the validity of evolutionary theory. Historical Overview Since public education in the US has historically been controlled at the local and state level, the content of and emphasis placed on origins education has varied over time and by locality due to pressures from creationist and ... Assuming these things, and having the given knowledge, we are to answer the question, if you were on a ship leaving from New York, how many ships from San Francisco would you see in passing? Process At first, I was confused with this problem and did not know what to do. For this problem, I used only one problem and it was what helped me solve it. With my table group (Derick I), we did a simulation. We first drew out a large map with the points that every ship should reach at the start of every month. Then we kept feeding in the blocks (which we used to act as ships) and did the simulation. Using this strategy, we were able to find the solution. Solution I found that if I were a traveler on a New York ship bound for San Francisco, I would see SEVEN ships from San Francisco, California along the way. This is how I ... During the interview process I sat in a dark room with Michelle and another licensed witch and her avowed costumer David. We started the process with explaining childhood religion based experiences. When I asked both Michelle and David what religion they grew up in they both stated they grew up Southern Baptist and converted at an early age. Michelle recalled a story where she believes she was in Sunday school and immediately felt as though she was reincarnated and did not belong in the southern baptist religion. However, David grew up feeling that everything that Southern Baptist believed was wrong or false according to his own set of beliefs. It should also be noted that David is a Homosexual male, he described growing up in a strict Southern Baptist household as complete hell and escaping felt like freedom. We went on to discuss the media and the open mindedness of my generation. I came into Sojourner thinking I was going to experience crystal balls and a old woman with long white hair, telling me my future, I was totally wrong. • 16. Stigma Of Social Welfare System The social welfare system in the United States is defined through several different sectors of government and generally comes along with a negative stigma. When people hear about social welfare they generally tend to think about the government assistance programs, and not the other programs such as tax credits or social insurance (Tussing 1974). This paper aims to explain and describe the social welfare programs, as well as show how widespread social welfare is. Midgley defines social welfare as a condition or state of human well being that exists when people s needs are met, problems are managed, and opportunities are maximized (2009). Although, this definition does cover the basic definition of social welfare, Tussing argues that there are two systems within the welfare system and gives a greater understanding of the social insurance system (1974). The stigma that goes along with being associated with social welfare programs generally doesn t include the policies that are in place to assist the non poor. The PowerPoint argues that there are different models to social welfare; residual and institutional and different programs; selective and universal (PowerPoint). The main point difference between the institutional approach and the residual approach is that the institutional approach is preventative where the residual approach is set up as a safety net, when something goes wrong (PowerPoint). The institutional approach acknowledges the need for social services ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Beer was discovered between the years 10,000 BCE and 4,00 BCE, after farmers had access to grains and began to store them. After experimenting with grains, farmers discovered that wet grain becomes intoxicating after being fermented. What surprised me the most was that the discovery of bread is closely related to the discovery of beer. I never thought that bread and beer were discovered around the same time, because ... Marriages are not for allowing two lovers to accomplish personal goals, but rather for faithful companions to live the rest of their lives together. In The Return of the Native, Thomas Hardy presents the reader with two pairs of lovers that marry to accomplish personal goals, not because of a mutual love and a desire to obtain a lifelong soul mate. Hardy reveals the true motives governing the participants in the novels marriage alliances: Eustacia, Clym, Thomasin, and Wildeve marry to carry out their individual plans for the future, rather than for love ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A bewildered Clym answers It is very beautiful. But will you be mine? . Eustacia then asks even more questions about Paris, such as, Now tell me of the Tuileries, and the Louvre. (Page201). Frustrated with the lack of a solid answer from Eustacia, Clym cries I hate talking of Paris! , but this does not stop Eustacia s constant flow of questions about the city. This is definitely not the expected response to a proposal of marriage, and further evidences that Eustacia is more interested in a possible life in Paris than the love of Clym Yeobright. Clym Yeobright also is interested in marriage to help carryout his own personal goals in life. Before the two meet face to face, without the mummer costume, Clym is introduced to Eustacia by Sam the turf cutter. Sam reports to Clym that Eustacia is a handsome girl (Page 183) and that Clym ought to check her out. Clym s first response to this is, Do you think she would like to teach children? (Page 183). This brief passage shows that when presented with the opportunity to marry, Clym first thinks about the possibility that she would be willing to help him in his desire to run a school. As the relationship between the two progresses, Clym talks to his mother about his intent to marry Eustacia. Naturally, Mrs. Yeobright objects. The first words of defense to come out of Clym s mouth are, She is excellently educated, and would make a good matron in a boarding school...I can establish a good private ... Many problems arise because of the mixups between the love juice and the fairies. One such mixup is when Hermia and Lysander s plans to elope are very suddenly halted when Helena hears of their plans and tells Demetrius, who decides to see if Helena s rumors are true. Demetrius then goes into the woods, followed by Helena, to see if it is true, but does not find the lovers, but instead are seen by Oberon. The author starts out his poem with a narrative on his tangible experiences when eating the fruit, but the poem later transitions into the topic of writing words. The topic of eating blackberries serves as an analogy for language and how perplexing yet marvelous it truly can be. This speaks to how poetry can be used as a medium to discuss the complexities existing in language itself and how these complexities can show how poetry encapsulates this artistic literary form. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kinnell s brilliant use of alliteration is not the only literary device that is effectively used to deliver his analogy, he also uses repetition to reference the connection with sound and imagery. Repetition is important because it reiterates the idea wanting to be conveyed. In line 2, Kinnell repeats black in the same line, black blackberries (2). For this poem repetition is used effectively in that Kinnell is constantly repeating the word black in blackberry; it reminds the audience subconsciously of the sound that the words black and blackberry make. In fact the word black is used seven times throughout the ninety word poem. By repeating certain words, the poem gives emphasis to a particular topic or theme it wants to convey. In Blackberry Eating Kinnell also uses repetition to emphasize the imagery narrated in this poem. By stressing the black color of this berry, it allows readers to truly capture the picture Kinnell is painting of the berry as well as the sound the word black makes. This alludes to the topic of choosing words which is shown in the second half of the poem. In addition to using such literary devices to exemplify sound and imagery, Kinnell picks out words in his poem while discussing the process of choosing words. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Consequently, the women were left at home. One woman, Lysistrata, was so fed up with the fighting that she called all of the women of Greece to a meeting. When they finally showed up, Lysistrata presented her plan for peace: no sex until the wars ceased. She eventually convinced all of the other women that this was the only way to bring peace to the land. The men were miserable and ultimately they negotiated a treaty to stop the hostilities. She says that she has spent long, sleepless nights agonizing over the solution to the wars. She tells Kalonike, quot;Only we women can save Greece! quot; As the rest of the women arrive, she informs them of her plan. The women are resistant to the idea of no sex at first. They then realize that what Lysistrata says is true. The women take an oath and swear to one another that they will have nothing to do with their husbands until the wars cease. Aristophanes use of women as the peacemakers shows the natural role of women as nurturers. He is displaying how life should be, without war. In times of peace, men are working at home alongside their wives. When war comes about, women are left to do all the work, domestic and otherwise. This upsets the balance of daily life. Aristophanes is urging his fellow Greeks to restore peace and therefore life as they once knew it. As the play progresses, the men are in extreme pain and agony from the withholding of sexual activities. They come to the conclusion, grudgingly, that the women are indeed correct. To renew Greece, the fighting must end. And they are the ones with whom it has to begin. The men arrange a treaty and then celebrate with the others, Athenian and Spartan alike. In another word, the healthcare in Canada is considered to be highly accessible. Unfortunately, the system does have its flaws in situations such as the aboriginals, the people with disabilities, and for the populations that lives outside the urban areas have less accessible healthcare providers. For many instances, the dweller of the rural and reserves areas would have to travel for hours to find a clinic and for others it is simply not available.
