Mono Zygotics
Literature Review
In recent years, mental health professionals have become increasingly aware of the importance of
genetic factors in the etiology (causes) of mental disorders. Since the Human Genome Project began
its mapping of the entire sequence of human DNA in 1990, the implications of its findings for
psychiatric diagnosis and treatment have accumulated rapidly. A new subspecialty known as biological
psychiatry (also called physiological psychology or psychiatric genetics) has emerged from the
discoveries of the last two decades. Biological psychiatry got its start in the late 1980s, when several
research groups identified genes associated with manic depression and schizophrenia respectively.
These studies ran into difficulties fairly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These studies are conducted with the hypothesis that illness should occur in the families of affected
members at a higher rate than in appropriate control population, The second one would be twin studies
with siblings Twin study attempts to separate effect of gene from that of the environment. Twin studies
are done with certain assumptions: Mono zygotic (MZ) twins share 100% of genome, dizygotic (DZ)
twins share approximately 50% of genome, both MZ and DZ twins share the same environment, thus
environment as a confounding variable can be controlled. The last study would be adoption study to
see if the environment can contribute to the mental illness instead of genetics this kind of study
attempts to clarify the role of genetic versus environmental factors in a disease by studying two kinds
of informative relationship; individuals who are genetically related but do not share familial
environmental factors and individuals who share familial environment factors but are not genetically

Billy Mitchell Analysis
Billy Mitchell was an Army Brigadier General and a famed aviator, considered by many to be the
father of the United States Air Force, he was one of the loudest proponents of air power after World
War I. He is also one of the most polarizing figures in aviation. People argue how helpful he actually
was to the development of US aviation. William D. O Neil, argues that his campaign to promote
airpower was handled the wrong way. His use of scare tactics, embellishments of fact and prediction,
and his confrontational attitude actually limited his ability to compromise with other branches and
effectively sell his ideas. An author in support of Mitchell, Robert Burlingame, stated that World War
II was the proving grounds and vindication of Billy Mitchell, that he could not have acted any other
way, and his loud voice kept him in the minds of all those who heard him, making sure his ideas were
not forgotten. In this paper, the argument of critic, William D. O Neil, will be analyzed along with the
advocate, Robert Burlingame will be presented, both sides will be evaluated, and then a synthesis will
be made. The author, William D. O Neil is one of the opponents of Billy Mitchell and his tactics. He is
chief scientist at the Center for Naval Analyses. He has been an active duty and reserve Naval officer,
Department of Defense engineering official, and defense industry executive. He also heavily
researched Billy Mitchell, using thirty seven resources for a fairly concise article,

The Agile Methodology ( Am ) For Software Development Essay
The Agile methodology (AM) for software development is an iterative system characterized by cycles
of development, testing, and stakeholder feedback. According to Ferreira and Cohen, the Agile
methodology has the following five characteristics (50): 1. Iterative development: Small versions of
the software are developed at regular intervals. 2. Continuous integration: Instead of waiting until the
end to make changes to code, code changes are integrated immediately and then tested to ensure they
work. 3. Collective ownership: Development teams are fluid as team members take on different roles
depending on need. They all own and are responsible for the system. 4. Test driven design: Developers
identify the testing required before beginning to write the code for the system. 5. Feedback loop: In
AM, there is a frequent feedback loop from stakeholders to ensure that the software is on track with
expectations throughout the process. Each loop in Agile development is characterized by development
of specific features, testing, stakeholder review, incorporation of changes, and then on to the next
cycle until completion. Comparison of the methods: Stakeholder input: Both waterfall and Agile
methodologies use stakeholder requirements in their process. In the waterfall case study, the video
game highlighted had a pre production stage where the requirements were identified and analysis was
done up front to develop the game conception. The design is based on that early analysis and

Thomas Hill Ideals Of Human Excellence And Preserving...
In Ideals of Human Excellence and Preserving Natural Environments , Thomas Hill explores the idea
that those who would destroy natural environments may lack necessary human virtues. He lays out
this idea through these claims:
1. A person who views non sentient nature as a resource may be clouded by self importance.
The idea here Hill highlights as one of perspective the inability to see oneself as part of nature. This
ties in with his next claim.
2. A person who would harm natural environments may lack humility by avoiding seeing himself as
one among many natural creatures.
Hill would make a distinction here from just perspective to one of attitude, if one sees themselves as
part of nature and yet would still destroy it then they are making the value judgment that humans are
more important than nature.
3. One ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However one may value something, and yet find need to put it aside. I may want to visit my dying
relative, but having concluded that doing so would leave me in debt for the rest of my natural life I
may revise my plan. This doesn t preclude me from staying in contact with them or cherishing what
connection we may have while they remain in this world. I agree with Hill s argument on most levels
and still find that it is intangible. The argument is sound logically, but makes assumptions that cannot
be quantified. Even could they be of what import would it be? Would we corral those lacking virtue to
be reeducated? In essence I believe Hill s ideas to be a preface to Baxter s. One rooted in the
intangible and one the tangible. Practicality vs Ideality it is an old argument and the basis for most,
neither wholly wrong nor right. On the pipeline through the Big Bend area do the people opposed to

How Does Maggie Vandermeer Use Social Media
Maggie Vandermeer dwells in a contemporary society where proficiency in regards to social media is
a rather dominant feature, especially in her search for a job and as an attempt to conform. As Maggie
is not familiar with such social media s, especially in comparison to the younger generation, this
renders Maggie somewhat of a misfit and continues her path of solitude, as she has no friends or a job.
Although Maggie routinely uses her cell phone to text or tweet, she has not yet integrated herself to
this contemporary society, as the younger generation is remarkably adept with social media.
Moreover, Maggie isn t conversant with the proper norms that belong to social media. For example, at
the beginning of the story, Maggie is woken up by her daughter, Lacey Vandermeer, who sends her a
text at 1:27 AM. Next, she begins to Twitter stalk Lacey s page until she discovers Lacey s presumed
lover named Dane Davis, and begins to stalk him as well. Maggie also seems to prefer face to face
interactions, rather than communication with some sort of social media. This preference differentiates
her from the younger generation, as they tend to prefer communicating through social media. For
example, When Lacey suggests how she does not need to come over, Maggie insists on the value of
face to face interaction. The point was to have a visit with you, Maggie says (Cullen, 36). When
Maggie attends her job interviews, the interviewers, who are of that younger generation, stress the

Vegan Cinderella Analysis
Vegan Cinderella
Description
In the Netflix original, Easy. Entitled Vegan Cinderella by Joe Swanberg, we see an honest and
visceral depiction of modern young love. There are moments in our relationships when we lie to our
significant others, maybe even change a little bit of ourselves for them. In this episode, we see a cast
of mostly young twenty something year old lesbian females and follow the two main characters
through the first few days of a budding romance. We hear many awkward conversations between the
two women about veganism and there is a great sense of realism within the story and the characters.
You feel like these women could be any one of your friends, almost as if you are also there with the
characters. I think everyone at some point in their life has tried to change themselves because they
thought it is necessary in order for the other person to like them. In this episode, we see Chase try to
impress Jo by changing who she is in order to impress her which is something we all can relate to. Joe
Swanberg is known for his indie films and shooting on 16mm and 35mm film. He also does not write
scripts but writes a one page outline where he has the characters use improvisation to fill in the blanks.
He focuses on naturalism and has little use for doing more than one or two takes. His on set brevity
allows for his films to be shot over the course of just a few weeks which helps to keep production
costs down (Zakarin). The style or genre of this film is

Personal Reflection In Communication
According to the Thomas Kilmann quiz in our iBook I scored highest in the following areas:
compromising, collaboration, and accommodations. Whereas my lowest, and nearly nonexistent areas
are competing and avoiding. As a speech/theatre major, the topic of conflict resolution isn t new to me.
I ve done many reflection papers just like this one and have taken many similar quizzes. For the most
part I would agree with the results they re very similar to most of the quizzes like these I have taken,
including this one. In life I believe everything is about wearing different hats. Depending on the
company and setting depends on the hat you wear. For instance, how you act around your friends and
how you act at work isn t the same. At work, you wear your professional hat, or at least I would hope
so. Same goes for conflict resolution.
When it comes to conflict resolution I would like to think that I fit a few categories rather than just
one in particular. I mean, I soon will be teaching communications, so I would hope I am somewhat
versatile at least. I know for certain that I don t avoid conflict, and I can be extremely head strong and
vocal. In my life, it has proven to be both a blessing and a curse. My concern with my inability to
avoid a situation is that I might come off too strong. I have been told on more than one occasion that I
come off as intimidating, no matter how friendly I try to be. I could see this causing potential issues in
my future career when

John Thomas is the Managing Director of the Thomas Motor Company. He succeeded to the position
of Managing Director after his father s untimely death in May 1978. Martin Thomas, the founder of
the Thomas Motor Company, Started off as an apprentice mechanic in a suburban area of Melbourne
when he was only eighteen working as an assistant to Fred Luthans. Martin learnt all he knew about
automechanics from him. He was a keen and enthusiastic learner and Luthans like people like that. He
saw a lot of potential in Martin and once remarked to a fellow worker after Martin completed a job in

As Richards was still a novice, and since the workshop really needed another mechanic, Richards
agreed and Turner was hired.
In the beginning, Robbins has told Turner about the way in which things were done around the place.
Turner seemed very understanding and accommodating. He seemed quite happy and enthusiastic
about his newly found job. This was despite the tact that he was the second lowest paid worker there.
The pay was calculated by computer, based on both seniority and skill. Turner, of course, lost out on
seniority, but he appeared not to mind this. Robbins thought that it was probably because he felt lucky
to even have a job.
The workshop opens at 8 am daily and the mechanics are assigned jobs by Robins. At 10:00 am there
is an unofficial coffee break where the entire crew would go across the street for a cup of coffee. This
is looked upon as a social gathering, where the men would get to know each other better. Being an
unofficial coffee break, it is agreed that anyone who does not complete his first job by 10:00 am has to
forego his coffee break for the day.
Now, Turner seemed to constantly miss his coffee breaks. Although skilful, he was not as fast as
either, Johnson, Kelly or Robbins. During his first three weeks there, he only managed to attend one
coffee break.
By the end of the fourth week, trouble was brewing. Turner had become quite alienated and
dissatisfied with his job. He tried to hurry through his work so that he could make

The Case Of Mcdonald s
The case study for McDonald s is quite intriguing. It made me realize that I as far as business success
rates I was really out of touch. McDonald s is huge in the restaurant industry, not only in the states but
abroad. However, it is quite interesting that this mogul is not always taken well in new places. For
example, in India the people are not particularly fund of the food and menu. Originally, the numbers
were high until a protest group came out saying that McDonalds was using beef and pork in the food.
The choice of beef and pork was unfavorable due to certain religions and this caused numbers to drop.
Furthermore, it caused the customers to lose trust in the brand. A loss of custore trust can prove
detrimental to a brand. The adverse publicity that was incurred caused the company s number to drop
significantly. In this same breath, the article disclosed that all new locations were not disappointed
with the restaurant items. The company chose to put a location in China, which was a wise choice,
because they now have over twenty five locations in the country. Not only did China incorporate and
embrace the organization, they are the home of one of the largest McDonald s in the world. I think that
McDonalds is using a smart strategy when it comes to being a major player in the globalization
market. The strategic planning and marketing has proven to be quite lucrative for the company. The
company is wise because they incorporate locate, home grown products in

Honor Is Love In Chronicle Of A Death Foretold By Gabriel...
Honor is Love in Chronicle of a Death Foretold In Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel Garcia
Marquez, honor is a very prominent theme in the town and its culture. The need for honor influences
many actions taken by individuals and traditions that characters strictly follow. As the narrator s
mother states, honor is love. The reader sees this statement supported throughout the story through
beliefs and actions of the Vicario twins, Angela s mother, and the townspeople as a whole. Honor is
such a guiding force in the small community that it almost replaces what love should be. Pura Vicario,
Angela s mother, for example, values honor more than she values true family cherishing and love.
Angela s twin brothers have high respect for their own family honor, and they strive to uphold it by
showing their love for their sister in hunting Santiago to retrieve her honor. The townspeople display
their devotion to honor as they do not attempt to stop Santiago Nasar s death. The qualified statement
honor is love applies to the novel in actions by the twins, Angela s mother, and the townspeople, and
how their desperation to defend honor controls them. First, the Vicario brothers prove to be very clear
examples of honor is love through their actions to kill Santiago Nasar. Although they do not quite
desire to murder him, they know that in order to gain their mother s love and show their own love for
Angela, they have to kill Santiago. Pablo and Pedro realize that they must not allow

Descriptive Essay About Michaelmas
Michaelmas
Every year, on the colorful fall day of September 29th, Sacramento Waldorf School hosts a festival
where good triumphs and evil parishes. Young girls and boys eagerly dress up as knights, to help Saint
George and Saint Michael conquer and tame the malicious dragon, through good actions and deeds.
Along with fun activities, caramel apples, and motivating spirit, Michaelmas is a special way to
prepare students for the challenging academic year ahead.
Michaelmas is a whole school event, where grades first through twelve are assigned a different role, to
put on a show that has its own unique twist each time. The roles include villagers (played by first
through fourth grade), Knights (played by the fifth grade) the dragon (Played by the sixth grade),
Lords and nobles (played by seventh through eleventh grade) and lastly, Saint George and Saint
Michael (played by twelfth graders). The story told is a classic good vs. evil, preformed inside a giant
circle, created by everyone attending the festival. A town of poor villages are fearful of a dragon, who
is merciless and cruel. One day, the dragon attacks the village, leaving the villagers desperate and
frightened. All the noble knights flee in fear, except for one, Saint George. Saint George bravely faces
the dragon, but instead of using his sword, he kneels and prays to saint Michael to give him wisdom
and strength. Michael appears out of the heavens, and empowers Saint George, with courage, and
kindness. Saint George

Medea and Jason and the Golden Fleece
Medea and Jason and the Golden Fleece are two well known Greek stories. In both these stories the
Olympian gods in the stories play important roles that affect the lives of both Jason and Medea. The
behaviors of these two character also have a great contrast between them. In the story of Jason and the

half brother Pelias steals the throne away from Aeson making himself the new king of Iolcus. Jason is

For Medea must fall in love with Jason and then she will use her great skill with magic to help Jason
acquire the fleece. Because of Hera s hatred towards Pelias Medea s life is now destined for extreme
agony, shame, and guilt. Her love for Jason causes her to tear away from her loving parents and
dishonor her father by helping his enemy. Hera s plan to avenge Pelias also flood Medea s head with
thoughts to keep her from straying from Hera s plan. Unfortunately for Medea her decision to help
Jason was not her own and was a careful thought out plan by Hera. Her life would never again be the
same. Even though Jason promises to love her always and promises that she will be his wedded wife,
he breaks this promise as soon as she become old and he is given the opportunity to marry royalty.
Medea decisions were not in any way wise but if it were not for the arrows of Eros she would have
had better judgment on the stranger. Medea s behavior in this story shows that of loyalty and
confusion in her heart. She is in agony because she can not conceive as to why she feels so much love
for a stranger and does not wish to dishonor her father by doing so. But then she is constantly

how and why things work. This drive to expand our understanding eventually led to the development
of the scientific method and what is commonly considered to be the king of the sciences, Physics. The

No object can spontaneously attain motion unless a force acts upon it; likewise, no moving object can

Sir Isaac Newton s contribution to Physics is undisputable. The applications of Newton s observations
are visible in all moving machines, from bicycles and cars, to rockets and the space shuttle. Even after
centuries of testing, his laws still hold true. Newton s Laws of motion have influenced countless
renowned physicists including the great Albert Einstein, who later expanded on them. By increasing
our understanding of energy and the laws governing it, Newton s laws continue to influence physicists
today, and will continue to for centuries to come. No other Physicist in history can claim to have had

well he was doing his job, and not that he is to blame for Neil s death. While it could be argued that
Neil had no life threatening or rebellious episodes against his father or his school until Keating began

thinking of many new ways to run a business that weren t seen before. Henry Ford impacted world
history by revolutionizing car building, boosting the economy, founding the art of mass production,

that suits him well is Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together

Hamlet And Agamemnon In Hamlet
The play Hamlet is more tragic than Agamemnon due to a stronger display of all elements of tragedy,
dramatic plot and character development, and its ability to gain audience sympathy. Peripeta is used
consistently throughout Hamlet as the narrative is full of unexpected plot twists. For instance, after
learning of Claudius s guilt, Hamlet does not act on impulse but rather decides to wait. Shortly after,
Hamlet mistakenly murders Polonius which then leads to Ophelia s suicide. Furthermore, all deaths
near the end are also unexpected considering they were all mostly accidental rather than planned.
Queen Gertrude accidently drinks Hamlet s wine while Laertes is cut with his own poison blade. On
the contrary, peripeteia is not consistently used in Agamemnon except near the very end. The initial
chorus, conflict of Agamemnon s return and Clytemnestra s welcoming are not representative of plot
twists. However, they do reveal Agamemnon s past to provide a better context for the audience.
Regardless, peripeteia is not appropriately used as Cassandra foreshadows Agamemnon s and her own
demise. The only unexpected plot twist occurs when Clytemnestra stands over Agamemnon s corpse
while Aegisthus confesses that he took part in the murder to avenge his siblings.
Additionally, hamartia occurs frequently throughout Hamlet as the protagonist passes up a few
chances to immediately kill Claudius. Some notable mistakes include agreeing to duel with Laertes
after killing his father, and also

Informative Essay On Milk
Introduction Where does milk come from? Milk comes from a variety of different cows and each has a

A Study On Sex Education
According to the University of Kansas, historian Jeffrey P. Morgan in his book Teaching, Sex, sex
education first appeared in 1913 when Chicago public schools instituted a lecture series for girls and,
separately boys, on physiology, moral hygiene, and venereal disease . Americans have viewed
adolescent sexuality as an impulse to be controlled, or better, repressed. Sex education has mainly
aimed at saving teenage girls from having early sex, and the prevention of sexually transmitted
diseases. Alfred Kinsey discovered that girls and boys started having sex at younger ages than usual;
this made the change in the curriculum for sex classes critical. Comprehensive sex education classes
are key to our youth to ensure a healthy lifestyle, to obtain a proper education, and to achieve
economic progression. Thus making comprehensive sex education classes more effective than
abstinence only classes.
Abstinence only classes became funded federally in 1996 when Congress passed the landmark
Welfare Reform law. Before then, classes such as Family Life Education, and sexual history were
taught. The Department of Health Science did a study and discovered that the abstinence only classes
were not bringing down the numbers enough to be effective. Now the classes are all evolving into sex
education classes, which teach teenagers safe ways to have sex. The Federal Government has now
stopped all funds of abstinence only classes and started funding sex education classes. The
government is

What Is Prospero In The Tempest
In Shakespeare s Tempest, Prospero is in complete control of his life and the lives of those around
him. With the help of his spirit Ariel, he bends the weather and the minds of others in order to produce
the exact chain of events that will bring his family back into power after his brother usurped his
dukedom. From the beginning of the play, he has a fairly accurate idea of what will happen and
informs the reader of his plans as the play progresses. However, one detail that Prospero fails to
mention is what the last third of his life consists of. Prospero reveals that one third of his life is his
daughter Miranda while another third is thoughts of his death. The last third is not mentioned which
leaves the reader guessing as to what Prospero deems to be as significant in his life as his daughter and
his death. With his dukedom restored, his enemies at his mercy, and possession of his magic books,
the last third of his life is anything but predictable. Despite his large reliance on magic, it seems that
the rest of Prospero s life is concerned with his ultimate goal of pleasing others. First, one should
establish the scope of the first two thirds that Prospero mentions. In act 4, scene 1, Prospero has given
Ferdinand his daughter Miranda in marriage. In doing so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He specifically states that his daughter and death are two thirds of his life. The last third is concerned
with pleasing others as seen through the forgiving of his brother and giving his daughter to Ferdinand.
These thirds of his life were actually controlling him throughout the play by influencing his actions.
The elaborate plan he devises has the sole purposes of ensuring a good life for his daughter and
pleasing others before he dies. Perhaps Shakespeare is using Prospero to suggest that life truly consists
of only the things that inspire us to act as Prospero breaks his life up into the aspects which make him

Medieval European Feudalism
Medieval Europe, which lasted from about 500 1300 CE, originally was filled with Germanic
invasions and threats from groups such as the Islamic Caliphate, the Magyars, and the Vikings. The
constant instability from these external threats eventually demanded for a new system of government,
which for Europe was feudalism. This system of government would last for centuries, until the
eventual rise of towns and trade around Europe began the downfall of feudalism. Japan, although
geographically independent of Europe, developed a similar system in around 1300 CE, which lasted
until around 1600. After any strong central power fell off, warring clans needed to bolster their
military prowess, so military leaders began to hire samurai to fight the opposition. ... Show more

In Europe, monarchs would distribute their land to lords, in return for military service and protection.
These lords would distribute the land even further by giving fiefs to lesser lords, known as vassals.
Like Europe, in Japan, the shogun would give land to the shugo, later known as the daimyƍ, who
would then give land to the samurai. However, unlike Europe, these were not formal contracts made
between the two parties. The agreements would be based purely on honor and moral obligations. In
Europe, feudal agreements were all legal agreements, and contracts were made to enforce this. The
role of the monarch or emperor in both societies played a very similar role; both the monarch in
Europe and the emperor in Japan were largely figureheads and held no real power, leading to lack of
central authority in the two states. The Catholic Church, with influence across the continent, took on
the role of a central power in Europe, stronger than any individual or group at the time. For example,
when Pope Gregory VII had a dispute with King Henry VI of England, the Pope excommunicated the
king, freeing his subjects from allegiance to him, which was soon followed by revolts. These two
systems may have had their overlap in feudal structure, but the use of moral contracts in Japan would
allow samurai to be free from loyalty to their

Behaviorism And The Operant Conditioning Theory Essay
It is a fact that people learn differently. Some people learn by seeing, some by hearing, some by doing,
and then others learn from a combination of these. For many decades psychologists, theorists, and
scientists have all sought to prove to their peers, society and the world that not only do people learn
differently but children and adult learning differ also. Learning theories are conceptualized
frameworks which describe how individuals absorb, process and retain information. Behaviorists such
as John B. Watson, B.F. Skinner, Edward L. Thorndike, Ivan Pavlov and Edwin R. Guthrie believed
that all learners were passive in nature and only responded to external stimuli. Behaviorism, as
explored by the before mentioned, is a biological basis of learning and focuses exclusively on
observable behaviors. This includes Thorndike s theory of connectionism, Pavlov s classical
conditioning and the well known conditioning theory from Skinner the operant conditioning model.
However, many researchers did not like the one size fits all explanation of behaviorism. Cognitivism
grew in response to behaviorism in an effort to better understand the mental processes behind learning.
This challenged behaviorism with the idea that learning is the process of connecting symbols in a
meaningful way; thus all knowledge is stored cognitively as symbols. Still, cognitivism didn t account
for individuality and the input output model was seen as very mechanic. The social cognitive theory
was developed

Economic regulation is defined as a type of government regulation that determines conditions or
standards on entry of firms into the industry. Economic regulation shall also include the regulation of
financial firms. However, economic regulation is not the only governmental regulation established.
The other type of regulation, called social regulation, includes environmental controls, restrictions on
labeling and advertising as well as health and safety regulations. Social regulation involves the
correction of externalities. However, there are many arguments about the exact economic rationale for
such social regulation. One reason which sets economic regulation apart from social regulation is that
the two have followed very different paths in recent history. There has been a tremendously increasing

Smith believed that if markets were free and competitive, then private individuals would work
together for the greater good of the market. In the early days of the US, government leaders refrained
from regulating businesses. As we entered the 20th century, the consolidation of the US industry into
progressively powerful corporations was cause for government intervention to protect smaller
businesses and consumers. In 1890, Congress created and enacted the Sherman Antitrust Act, a law
created to return competition and free enterprise by breaking up monopolies. In 1906, it passed laws to
ensure that food and drugs were properly identifiable and that meat was inspected before being sold.

Essay on The Kite Runner Relationship and Symbolism
How does Hosseini use symbolism in The Kite Runner to present key relationships? You should
consider different reader responses and the extent to which your critical approach assists your
interpretation. In Khaled Hosseini s novel, The Kite Runner , it is often thought that symbols and
metaphors are used as visual representations to reinforce and put emphasis on important stages in the
novel. In can be seen that symbols are used in the novel to highlight particular moments in key
relationships. For example Kites, the Pomegranate tree, Scars and the Slingshot are each used to put
emphasis on specific moments in the relationships between Amir and Hassan and Amir and Baba.

At the end of the novel, the roles are swapped. Amir acts as the kite runner, whereas Sorhab (Hassan s
son who represents Hassan at this point) is the kite flyer. This could be symbolic of Amir completing
his journey of redemption and him re establishing his relationship with Hassan. In particular, I feel
that in chapter 7, the Blue Kite is used as a symbol of Hassan s loyalty towards Amir. Hassan will not
give up the blue kite which he ran for Amir after winning the kite tournament, even when he is faced
with rape as he is afraid that giving up the kite will jeopardize his friendship with Amir. This could be
seen as symbolic of the protection and dedication which Hassan shows towards Amir. The blue kite is
an object which is in between Hassan and Assef in chapter seven, in the same way that in chapter five,
Amir is in between Hassan and Assef. Hassan won t let the blue kite get torn or damaged by Assef in
the same way that he wouldn t let Assef hurt Amir in chapter 5, in my opinion the blue kite is clearly a
symbol of Hassan s dedication and devotion towards Amir; he would rather endure rape than
disappoint him. Secondly the Pomegranate tree can be seen as a symbol of Amir and Hassan
friendship, childhood innocence and shelter. The tree is presented to the reader in two different states.
When the tree appears in the first part of the story, in chapter 4, the tree is shown as being fruitful and
blooming with blood red

Similarities And Differences Between The Iliad And Arjuna
Many books of literature, no matter what time period they were written or who the author is, have
many similarities. The books The Iliad and Bhagavad Gita are great examples of this. These two
books consist of many of the same themes and characteristics within the readings that cause them to
relate to each other. On the other hand, they also have some characteristics that contradict themselves
in different ways. In the book The Iliad the author Homer, explains a story revolving around a Greek
hero named Achilles. Both stories have two main characters, Achilles and Arjuna, which really have
many of the same characteristics within them. Both Achilles from The Iliad and Arjuna from
Bhagavad Gita have many similar aspects about themselves and what s expected of them in their daily
life. The main theme characteristics that I m going to discuss in this essay is what duty each character
plays in their culture or what role they are expected to take on. I m also going to compare War
between the two stories. Both readings have many similar views under these topics but also have some
differences within them. In this essay, I will be explaining the characteristics that are similar in both
stories along with the characteristics that contradict in the pieces. In the story Bhagavad Gita there is a
central focus of war between lands in order to take back the kingdom. Arjuna has a mission of taking
back the kingdom with Sri Krishna guiding him. Although Arjuna has a duty to claim the

A Report On The Marine Corps
A month after graduating high school, I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. In less than a year
after that, I found myself speeding in a Humvee on a dirt road in Habbiniyah, Iraq, just a mile of the
Euphrates River. Our mission was to assist a Marine Reconnaissance unit in securing insurgent
weapon caches. I could feel the adrenaline rushing through my veins, as I was ready to tackle my first
major op. My truck, along with another, responded to the recon unit when they radioed for help to
load a weapons cache. As we sped over to the site, an IED exploded and ripped apart the engine of the
following truck. The vehicle contained my squad leader, two marines, and our squad s only medic. As
a combat lifesaver (CLS), my secondary mission kicked in. My instincts were to assess the casualties,
triage, and treat the wounded. We were fortunate they only suffered concussions, with the gunner
having minor lacerations to the face. After dressing the wound, a MEDEVAC was secured to transport
them back to base. Within minutes of the helicopter leaving, another explosion was heard where the
cache was located. We rushed to the scene, only to see a truck engulfed in flames. When I reached the
casualty collection point, I was updated on what occurred. The truck hit a landmine as they were
backing onto the road, injuring everyone near the vehicle. Most of the passengers got out, but one was
unconscious and trapped inside. Much to my dismay, the Marine was my team leader. I fought

John Stuart Mill’s Explanation of the Harm Principle
John Stuart Mill s explanation of the harm principle is not as useful as once believed. Although the
harm principle does in fact have some logic, it fails to set clear and concise borders regarding what
denotes allowable hate speech. The harm principle essentially states that all speech, including hate
speech, should be allowed. However, speech that causes a definable harm must be censored. For
example, merely offensive speech is allowed; however, the context of the offensive speech in question
is important in understanding when to apply Mill s harm principle. The principle has some major
flaws, as Mill does not take into consideration the numerous factors that must be examined before
deciding whether or not to apply the principle, such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even if a critique is meaningless, Mill argues that we did our best at attempting to ensure the validity
of a claim. We should therefore study all modes and perspectives in which something can be looked
at, since our knowledge base depends on subjecting ourselves to alternative viewpoints to know the
truth about something. The disagreement and contestation that potentially occurs is what leads to the
truth. Furthermore, contrary to the beliefs of certain monarchs during his time, Mill argued that human
beings are not infallible; therefore, we can never be certain that anything is definite, because we are
not in a position to be judges of certainty (Cahn 443). The usefulness of an opinion is subjective and
open to discussion, and due to the fallibility of humans, no individual has the right to stifle the opinion
of another, for we can never be certain we are stifling a false opinion (Cahn 461). Even our truest
convictions must be tested, Mill argues, because even they can be partly mistaken. However, it may in
fact be that our convictions are logical and valid. Mill asserts that even then we must subject ourselves
to critics and alternative viewpoints; only then can our convictions become vivid in our mind and
character. If our beliefs are not tested, they will become robotic and lifeless. Further, Mill argues that
we must not think in black and white, for different positions have value in them and since we are not
judges of what is

Thomas Hobbes Leviathan
Hobbes, in Leviathan, immediately embarks on an ambitious task: not to explain tedious small morals,
but rather those qualities of mankind, that concern their living together in peace, and unity (Hobbes,
239). Hobbes asserts that no ultimate goal or greatest good exist; a universal goal in life simply does
not exist. Thus, no natural hierarchy can be established with respects to an individual s capacity to
achieve this ultimate good i.e. no one person is naturally better than the rest in achieving some
virtuous goal because no such goal exists. The alignment of human existence, therefore, is not towards
an ultimate good, but rather to avoid the ultimate evil: death. Therefore, the voluntary actions, and
inclinations of all men, tend, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although commonly interpreted as being such, the state of nature is not equivalent to everyone acting
out of self preservation. The state of nature arises from humans ill perception of what is, in fact, self
preservation. While we may wish to act out of self preservation, we often seek to satisfy immediate
needs without considering the consequences, thus leading to conflict. Likewise, Hobbes thinks we are
often too concerned with others perceptions of ourselves, evident by his discussion of glory as a
principle cause of quarrel. Humans ought to follow the laws of self preservation, and thereby ought to
endeavor peace, but yet, our shortsightedness prevents us from doing so. An objection may be that
there is no strong evidence that shows that self preservation leads to peace. To explain this, I turn to
Aristotle and his teleological explanation of human nature. Aristotle believed that the good of human
beings must be that at which the activity of living a human life aims at. What would a human life aim
at living other than living itself? Self preservation is the excellence that Aristotle valued, and, as
Aristotle argued, excellence leads to happiness, or

The rules require banks with assets of over $50 billion to hold up to 3% of their proceeds in cash or
highly liquid securities in order to avoid bank failure in the case of another crash.
The problem for banks is that they now can t use that small percentage of low yielding assets to turn a
profit on, and this makes them very sad. You see, bank CEOs don t really care if their banks fail and
millions of American are left in a lurch due to a lack of this protection. They simply want to make as
much profit as possible and let the potential carnage to the markets be damned that s because the
executives of a bank can walk away with all their money, while leaving a decimated stock market
behind.
Another aspect of the plan is that large banks must submit resolution plans to regulators each year
detailing how their institution could be dissolved without harming financial markets. And this is
terrible for banks because, I don t know, extra paperwork? Or maybe they just don t like to have to
give the appearance of responsibility to American shareholders that s something that only other
companies have to do.

  • 2. Mono Zygotics Literature Review In recent years, mental health professionals have become increasingly aware of the importance of genetic factors in the etiology (causes) of mental disorders. Since the Human Genome Project began its mapping of the entire sequence of human DNA in 1990, the implications of its findings for psychiatric diagnosis and treatment have accumulated rapidly. A new subspecialty known as biological psychiatry (also called physiological psychology or psychiatric genetics) has emerged from the discoveries of the last two decades. Biological psychiatry got its start in the late 1980s, when several research groups identified genes associated with manic depression and schizophrenia respectively. These studies ran into difficulties fairly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These studies are conducted with the hypothesis that illness should occur in the families of affected members at a higher rate than in appropriate control population, The second one would be twin studies with siblings Twin study attempts to separate effect of gene from that of the environment. Twin studies are done with certain assumptions: Mono zygotic (MZ) twins share 100% of genome, dizygotic (DZ) twins share approximately 50% of genome, both MZ and DZ twins share the same environment, thus environment as a confounding variable can be controlled. The last study would be adoption study to see if the environment can contribute to the mental illness instead of genetics this kind of study attempts to clarify the role of genetic versus environmental factors in a disease by studying two kinds of informative relationship; individuals who are genetically related but do not share familial environmental factors and individuals who share familial environment factors but are not genetically ... • 3. Billy Mitchell Analysis Billy Mitchell was an Army Brigadier General and a famed aviator, considered by many to be the father of the United States Air Force, he was one of the loudest proponents of air power after World War I. He is also one of the most polarizing figures in aviation. People argue how helpful he actually was to the development of US aviation. William D. O Neil, argues that his campaign to promote airpower was handled the wrong way. His use of scare tactics, embellishments of fact and prediction, and his confrontational attitude actually limited his ability to compromise with other branches and effectively sell his ideas. An author in support of Mitchell, Robert Burlingame, stated that World War II was the proving grounds and vindication of Billy Mitchell, that he could not have acted any other way, and his loud voice kept him in the minds of all those who heard him, making sure his ideas were not forgotten. In this paper, the argument of critic, William D. O Neil, will be analyzed along with the advocate, Robert Burlingame will be presented, both sides will be evaluated, and then a synthesis will be made. The author, William D. O Neil is one of the opponents of Billy Mitchell and his tactics. He is chief scientist at the Center for Naval Analyses. He has been an active duty and reserve Naval officer, Department of Defense engineering official, and defense industry executive. He also heavily researched Billy Mitchell, using thirty seven resources for a fairly concise article, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Agile Methodology ( Am ) For Software Development Essay The Agile methodology (AM) for software development is an iterative system characterized by cycles of development, testing, and stakeholder feedback. According to Ferreira and Cohen, the Agile methodology has the following five characteristics (50): 1. Iterative development: Small versions of the software are developed at regular intervals. 2. Continuous integration: Instead of waiting until the end to make changes to code, code changes are integrated immediately and then tested to ensure they work. 3. Collective ownership: Development teams are fluid as team members take on different roles depending on need. They all own and are responsible for the system. 4. Test driven design: Developers identify the testing required before beginning to write the code for the system. 5. Feedback loop: In AM, there is a frequent feedback loop from stakeholders to ensure that the software is on track with expectations throughout the process. Each loop in Agile development is characterized by development of specific features, testing, stakeholder review, incorporation of changes, and then on to the next cycle until completion. Comparison of the methods: Stakeholder input: Both waterfall and Agile methodologies use stakeholder requirements in their process. In the waterfall case study, the video game highlighted had a pre production stage where the requirements were identified and analysis was done up front to develop the game conception. The design is based on that early analysis and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Thomas Hill Ideals Of Human Excellence And Preserving... In Ideals of Human Excellence and Preserving Natural Environments , Thomas Hill explores the idea that those who would destroy natural environments may lack necessary human virtues. He lays out this idea through these claims: 1. A person who views non sentient nature as a resource may be clouded by self importance. The idea here Hill highlights as one of perspective the inability to see oneself as part of nature. This ties in with his next claim. 2. A person who would harm natural environments may lack humility by avoiding seeing himself as one among many natural creatures. Hill would make a distinction here from just perspective to one of attitude, if one sees themselves as part of nature and yet would still destroy it then they are making the value judgment that humans are more important than nature. 3. One ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However one may value something, and yet find need to put it aside. I may want to visit my dying relative, but having concluded that doing so would leave me in debt for the rest of my natural life I may revise my plan. This doesn t preclude me from staying in contact with them or cherishing what connection we may have while they remain in this world. I agree with Hill s argument on most levels and still find that it is intangible. The argument is sound logically, but makes assumptions that cannot be quantified. Even could they be of what import would it be? Would we corral those lacking virtue to be reeducated? In essence I believe Hill s ideas to be a preface to Baxter s. One rooted in the intangible and one the tangible. Practicality vs Ideality it is an old argument and the basis for most, neither wholly wrong nor right. On the pipeline through the Big Bend area do the people opposed to its implementation regard the fact that it may improve the lives of their fellow man or do they lack that ... • 6. How Does Maggie Vandermeer Use Social Media Maggie Vandermeer dwells in a contemporary society where proficiency in regards to social media is a rather dominant feature, especially in her search for a job and as an attempt to conform. As Maggie is not familiar with such social media s, especially in comparison to the younger generation, this renders Maggie somewhat of a misfit and continues her path of solitude, as she has no friends or a job. Although Maggie routinely uses her cell phone to text or tweet, she has not yet integrated herself to this contemporary society, as the younger generation is remarkably adept with social media. Moreover, Maggie isn t conversant with the proper norms that belong to social media. For example, at the beginning of the story, Maggie is woken up by her daughter, Lacey Vandermeer, who sends her a text at 1:27 AM. Next, she begins to Twitter stalk Lacey s page until she discovers Lacey s presumed lover named Dane Davis, and begins to stalk him as well. Maggie also seems to prefer face to face interactions, rather than communication with some sort of social media. This preference differentiates her from the younger generation, as they tend to prefer communicating through social media. For example, When Lacey suggests how she does not need to come over, Maggie insists on the value of face to face interaction. The point was to have a visit with you, Maggie says (Cullen, 36). When Maggie attends her job interviews, the interviewers, who are of that younger generation, stress the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Vegan Cinderella Analysis Vegan Cinderella Description In the Netflix original, Easy. Entitled Vegan Cinderella by Joe Swanberg, we see an honest and visceral depiction of modern young love. There are moments in our relationships when we lie to our significant others, maybe even change a little bit of ourselves for them. In this episode, we see a cast of mostly young twenty something year old lesbian females and follow the two main characters through the first few days of a budding romance. We hear many awkward conversations between the two women about veganism and there is a great sense of realism within the story and the characters. You feel like these women could be any one of your friends, almost as if you are also there with the characters. I think everyone at some point in their life has tried to change themselves because they thought it is necessary in order for the other person to like them. In this episode, we see Chase try to impress Jo by changing who she is in order to impress her which is something we all can relate to. Joe Swanberg is known for his indie films and shooting on 16mm and 35mm film. He also does not write scripts but writes a one page outline where he has the characters use improvisation to fill in the blanks. He focuses on naturalism and has little use for doing more than one or two takes. His on set brevity allows for his films to be shot over the course of just a few weeks which helps to keep production costs down (Zakarin). The style or genre of this film is ... • 8. Personal Reflection In Communication According to the Thomas Kilmann quiz in our iBook I scored highest in the following areas: compromising, collaboration, and accommodations. Whereas my lowest, and nearly nonexistent areas are competing and avoiding. As a speech/theatre major, the topic of conflict resolution isn t new to me. I ve done many reflection papers just like this one and have taken many similar quizzes. For the most part I would agree with the results they re very similar to most of the quizzes like these I have taken, including this one. In life I believe everything is about wearing different hats. Depending on the company and setting depends on the hat you wear. For instance, how you act around your friends and how you act at work isn t the same. At work, you wear your professional hat, or at least I would hope so. Same goes for conflict resolution. When it comes to conflict resolution I would like to think that I fit a few categories rather than just one in particular. I mean, I soon will be teaching communications, so I would hope I am somewhat versatile at least. I know for certain that I don t avoid conflict, and I can be extremely head strong and vocal. In my life, it has proven to be both a blessing and a curse. My concern with my inability to avoid a situation is that I might come off too strong. I have been told on more than one occasion that I come off as intimidating, no matter how friendly I try to be. I could see this causing potential issues in my future career when ... He succeeded to the position of Managing Director after his father s untimely death in May 1978. Martin Thomas, the founder of the Thomas Motor Company, Started off as an apprentice mechanic in a suburban area of Melbourne when he was only eighteen working as an assistant to Fred Luthans. Martin learnt all he knew about automechanics from him. He was a keen and enthusiastic learner and Luthans like people like that. As Richards was still a novice, and since the workshop really needed another mechanic, Richards agreed and Turner was hired. In the beginning, Robbins has told Turner about the way in which things were done around the place. Turner seemed very understanding and accommodating. He seemed quite happy and enthusiastic about his newly found job. This was despite the tact that he was the second lowest paid worker there. The pay was calculated by computer, based on both seniority and skill. Turner, of course, lost out on seniority, but he appeared not to mind this. Robbins thought that it was probably because he felt lucky to even have a job. The workshop opens at 8 am daily and the mechanics are assigned jobs by Robins. At 10:00 am there is an unofficial coffee break where the entire crew would go across the street for a cup of coffee. This is looked upon as a social gathering, where the men would get to know each other better. Being an unofficial coffee break, it is agreed that anyone who does not complete his first job by 10:00 am has to forego his coffee break for the day. Now, Turner seemed to constantly miss his coffee breaks. Although skilful, he was not as fast as either, Johnson, Kelly or Robbins. During his first three weeks there, he only managed to attend one coffee break. By the end of the fourth week, trouble was brewing. Turner had become quite alienated and dissatisfied with his job. • 10. The Case Of Mcdonald s The case study for McDonald s is quite intriguing. It made me realize that I as far as business success rates I was really out of touch. McDonald s is huge in the restaurant industry, not only in the states but abroad. However, it is quite interesting that this mogul is not always taken well in new places. For example, in India the people are not particularly fund of the food and menu. Originally, the numbers were high until a protest group came out saying that McDonalds was using beef and pork in the food. The choice of beef and pork was unfavorable due to certain religions and this caused numbers to drop. Furthermore, it caused the customers to lose trust in the brand. A loss of custore trust can prove detrimental to a brand. The adverse publicity that was incurred caused the company s number to drop significantly. In this same breath, the article disclosed that all new locations were not disappointed with the restaurant items. • 11. Honor Is Love In Chronicle Of A Death Foretold By Gabriel... Honor is Love in Chronicle of a Death Foretold In Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, honor is a very prominent theme in the town and its culture. The need for honor influences many actions taken by individuals and traditions that characters strictly follow. As the narrator s mother states, honor is love. The reader sees this statement supported throughout the story through beliefs and actions of the Vicario twins, Angela s mother, and the townspeople as a whole. Honor is such a guiding force in the small community that it almost replaces what love should be. Pura Vicario, Angela s mother, for example, values honor more than she values true family cherishing and love. Angela s twin brothers have high respect for their own family honor, and they strive to uphold it by showing their love for their sister in hunting Santiago to retrieve her honor. The townspeople display their devotion to honor as they do not attempt to stop Santiago Nasar s death. The qualified statement honor is love applies to the novel in actions by the twins, Angela s mother, and the townspeople, and how their desperation to defend honor controls them. First, the Vicario brothers prove to be very clear examples of honor is love through their actions to kill Santiago Nasar. Although they do not quite desire to murder him, they know that in order to gain their mother s love and show their own love for Angela, they have to kill Santiago. Hamlet And Agamemnon In Hamlet The play Hamlet is more tragic than Agamemnon due to a stronger display of all elements of tragedy, dramatic plot and character development, and its ability to gain audience sympathy. Peripeta is used consistently throughout Hamlet as the narrative is full of unexpected plot twists. For instance, after learning of Claudius s guilt, Hamlet does not act on impulse but rather decides to wait. Shortly after, Hamlet mistakenly murders Polonius which then leads to Ophelia s suicide. Furthermore, all deaths near the end are also unexpected considering they were all mostly accidental rather than planned. Queen Gertrude accidently drinks Hamlet s wine while Laertes is cut with his own poison blade. On the contrary, peripeteia is not consistently used in Agamemnon except near the very end. The initial chorus, conflict of Agamemnon s return and Clytemnestra s welcoming are not representative of plot twists. However, they do reveal Agamemnon s past to provide a better context for the audience. Regardless, peripeteia is not appropriately used as Cassandra foreshadows Agamemnon s and her own demise. The only unexpected plot twist occurs when Clytemnestra stands over Agamemnon s corpse while Aegisthus confesses that he took part in the murder to avenge his siblings. Morgan in his book Teaching, Sex, sex education first appeared in 1913 when Chicago public schools instituted a lecture series for girls and, separately boys, on physiology, moral hygiene, and venereal disease . Americans have viewed adolescent sexuality as an impulse to be controlled, or better, repressed. Sex education has mainly aimed at saving teenage girls from having early sex, and the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases. Alfred Kinsey discovered that girls and boys started having sex at younger ages than usual; this made the change in the curriculum for sex classes critical. Medieval European Feudalism Medieval Europe, which lasted from about 500 1300 CE, originally was filled with Germanic invasions and threats from groups such as the Islamic Caliphate, the Magyars, and the Vikings. The constant instability from these external threats eventually demanded for a new system of government, which for Europe was feudalism. This system of government would last for centuries, until the eventual rise of towns and trade around Europe began the downfall of feudalism. Japan, although geographically independent of Europe, developed a similar system in around 1300 CE, which lasted until around 1600. These lords would distribute the land even further by giving fiefs to lesser lords, known as vassals. However, unlike Europe, these were not formal contracts made between the two parties. The agreements would be based purely on honor and moral obligations. In Europe, feudal agreements were all legal agreements, and contracts were made to enforce this. The role of the monarch or emperor in both societies played a very similar role; both the monarch in Europe and the emperor in Japan were largely figureheads and held no real power, leading to lack of central authority in the two states. The Catholic Church, with influence across the continent, took on the role of a central power in Europe, stronger than any individual or group at the time. For example, when Pope Gregory VII had a dispute with King Henry VI of England, the Pope excommunicated the king, freeing his subjects from allegiance to him, which was soon followed by revolts. • 29. Behaviorism And The Operant Conditioning Theory Essay It is a fact that people learn differently. Some people learn by seeing, some by hearing, some by doing, and then others learn from a combination of these. For many decades psychologists, theorists, and scientists have all sought to prove to their peers, society and the world that not only do people learn differently but children and adult learning differ also. Learning theories are conceptualized frameworks which describe how individuals absorb, process and retain information. Behaviorists such as John B. Watson, B.F. Skinner, Edward L. Thorndike, Ivan Pavlov and Edwin R. Guthrie believed that all learners were passive in nature and only responded to external stimuli. Behaviorism, as explored by the before mentioned, is a biological basis of learning and focuses exclusively on observable behaviors. This includes Thorndike s theory of connectionism, Pavlov s classical conditioning and the well known conditioning theory from Skinner the operant conditioning model. However, many researchers did not like the one size fits all explanation of behaviorism. Cognitivism grew in response to behaviorism in an effort to better understand the mental processes behind learning. This challenged behaviorism with the idea that learning is the process of connecting symbols in a meaningful way; thus all knowledge is stored cognitively as symbols. Still, cognitivism didn t account for individuality and the input output model was seen as very mechanic. The social cognitive theory was developed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 1913, the government developed a relatively new federal banking system, the Federal Reserve, to monitor the nation s financial supply and to control banking activities (The Role of the Government, ... • 33. Essay on The Kite Runner Relationship and Symbolism How does Hosseini use symbolism in The Kite Runner to present key relationships? You should consider different reader responses and the extent to which your critical approach assists your interpretation. In Khaled Hosseini s novel, The Kite Runner , it is often thought that symbols and metaphors are used as visual representations to reinforce and put emphasis on important stages in the novel. In can be seen that symbols are used in the novel to highlight particular moments in key relationships. For example Kites, the Pomegranate tree, Scars and the Slingshot are each used to put emphasis on specific moments in the relationships between Amir and Hassan and Amir and Baba. Through using symbolism and metaphor to present these key ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the end of the novel, the roles are swapped. Amir acts as the kite runner, whereas Sorhab (Hassan s son who represents Hassan at this point) is the kite flyer. This could be symbolic of Amir completing his journey of redemption and him re establishing his relationship with Hassan. In particular, I feel that in chapter 7, the Blue Kite is used as a symbol of Hassan s loyalty towards Amir. Hassan will not give up the blue kite which he ran for Amir after winning the kite tournament, even when he is faced with rape as he is afraid that giving up the kite will jeopardize his friendship with Amir. This could be seen as symbolic of the protection and dedication which Hassan shows towards Amir. The blue kite is an object which is in between Hassan and Assef in chapter seven, in the same way that in chapter five, Amir is in between Hassan and Assef. Hassan won t let the blue kite get torn or damaged by Assef in the same way that he wouldn t let Assef hurt Amir in chapter 5, in my opinion the blue kite is clearly a symbol of Hassan s dedication and devotion towards Amir; he would rather endure rape than disappoint him. Secondly the Pomegranate tree can be seen as a symbol of Amir and Hassan friendship, childhood innocence and shelter. The tree is presented to the reader in two different states. When the tree appears in the first part of the story, in chapter 4, the tree is shown as being fruitful and blooming with blood red ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Similarities And Differences Between The Iliad And Arjuna Many books of literature, no matter what time period they were written or who the author is, have many similarities. The books The Iliad and Bhagavad Gita are great examples of this. These two books consist of many of the same themes and characteristics within the readings that cause them to relate to each other. On the other hand, they also have some characteristics that contradict themselves in different ways. In the book The Iliad the author Homer, explains a story revolving around a Greek hero named Achilles. Both stories have two main characters, Achilles and Arjuna, which really have many of the same characteristics within them. Both Achilles from The Iliad and Arjuna from Bhagavad Gita have many similar aspects about themselves and what s expected of them in their daily life. The main theme characteristics that I m going to discuss in this essay is what duty each character plays in their culture or what role they are expected to take on. I m also going to compare War between the two stories. Both readings have many similar views under these topics but also have some differences within them. In this essay, I will be explaining the characteristics that are similar in both stories along with the characteristics that contradict in the pieces. In the story Bhagavad Gita there is a central focus of war between lands in order to take back the kingdom. Arjuna has a mission of taking back the kingdom with Sri Krishna guiding him. Although Arjuna has a duty to claim the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. A Report On The Marine Corps A month after graduating high school, I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. In less than a year after that, I found myself speeding in a Humvee on a dirt road in Habbiniyah, Iraq, just a mile of the Euphrates River. Our mission was to assist a Marine Reconnaissance unit in securing insurgent weapon caches. I could feel the adrenaline rushing through my veins, as I was ready to tackle my first major op. My truck, along with another, responded to the recon unit when they radioed for help to load a weapons cache. As we sped over to the site, an IED exploded and ripped apart the engine of the following truck. The vehicle contained my squad leader, two marines, and our squad s only medic. As a combat lifesaver (CLS), my secondary mission kicked in. My instincts were to assess the casualties, triage, and treat the wounded. We were fortunate they only suffered concussions, with the gunner having minor lacerations to the face. After dressing the wound, a MEDEVAC was secured to transport them back to base. Within minutes of the helicopter leaving, another explosion was heard where the cache was located. We rushed to the scene, only to see a truck engulfed in flames. When I reached the casualty collection point, I was updated on what occurred. The truck hit a landmine as they were backing onto the road, injuring everyone near the vehicle. Most of the passengers got out, but one was unconscious and trapped inside. Much to my dismay, the Marine was my team leader. I fought ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. John Stuart Mill’s Explanation of the Harm Principle John Stuart Mill s explanation of the harm principle is not as useful as once believed. Although the harm principle does in fact have some logic, it fails to set clear and concise borders regarding what denotes allowable hate speech. The harm principle essentially states that all speech, including hate speech, should be allowed. However, speech that causes a definable harm must be censored. For example, merely offensive speech is allowed; however, the context of the offensive speech in question is important in understanding when to apply Mill s harm principle. The principle has some major flaws, as Mill does not take into consideration the numerous factors that must be examined before deciding whether or not to apply the principle, such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even if a critique is meaningless, Mill argues that we did our best at attempting to ensure the validity of a claim. We should therefore study all modes and perspectives in which something can be looked at, since our knowledge base depends on subjecting ourselves to alternative viewpoints to know the truth about something. The disagreement and contestation that potentially occurs is what leads to the truth. Furthermore, contrary to the beliefs of certain monarchs during his time, Mill argued that human beings are not infallible; therefore, we can never be certain that anything is definite, because we are not in a position to be judges of certainty (Cahn 443). The usefulness of an opinion is subjective and open to discussion, and due to the fallibility of humans, no individual has the right to stifle the opinion of another, for we can never be certain we are stifling a false opinion (Cahn 461). Even our truest convictions must be tested, Mill argues, because even they can be partly mistaken. However, it may in fact be that our convictions are logical and valid. Mill asserts that even then we must subject ourselves to critics and alternative viewpoints; only then can our convictions become vivid in our mind and character. If our beliefs are not tested, they will become robotic and lifeless. Further, Mill argues that we must not think in black and white, for different positions have value in them and since we are not judges of what is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Thomas Hobbes Leviathan Hobbes, in Leviathan, immediately embarks on an ambitious task: not to explain tedious small morals, but rather those qualities of mankind, that concern their living together in peace, and unity (Hobbes, 239). Hobbes asserts that no ultimate goal or greatest good exist; a universal goal in life simply does not exist. Thus, no natural hierarchy can be established with respects to an individual s capacity to achieve this ultimate good i.e. no one person is naturally better than the rest in achieving some virtuous goal because no such goal exists. The alignment of human existence, therefore, is not towards an ultimate good, but rather to avoid the ultimate evil: death. Therefore, the voluntary actions, and inclinations of all men, tend, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although commonly interpreted as being such, the state of nature is not equivalent to everyone acting out of self preservation. The state of nature arises from humans ill perception of what is, in fact, self preservation. While we may wish to act out of self preservation, we often seek to satisfy immediate needs without considering the consequences, thus leading to conflict. Likewise, Hobbes thinks we are often too concerned with others perceptions of ourselves, evident by his discussion of glory as a principle cause of quarrel. Humans ought to follow the laws of self preservation, and thereby ought to endeavor peace, but yet, our shortsightedness prevents us from doing so. An objection may be that there is no strong evidence that shows that self preservation leads to peace. To explain this, I turn to Aristotle and his teleological explanation of human nature. Aristotle believed that the good of human beings must be that at which the activity of living a human life aims at. What would a human life aim at living other than living itself? Self preservation is the excellence that Aristotle valued, and, as Aristotle argued, excellence leads to happiness, or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. The Campaign Of A Sucker That Is The Trump Administration... A sucker that is. While the travesty that is the Trump administration marches forward, it is interesting to point out that many of Trump s policies serve to continue the economic decline of many Americans, most notably those in his own base. Trump supporters have spent the past year and a half blinding themselves to facts rather then give up their carnival barker who spews feel good phrases about building walls and putting political opponents in jail. But who cares what a person s policy agenda turns out to be as long as they are saying what you want to hear? Within only two weeks of being sworn in, here is what the PT Barnum crowd has gotten for their efforts: A push to further weaken and destroy unions Last week, a bill created by ... The rules require banks with assets of over $50 billion to hold up to 3% of their proceeds in cash or highly liquid securities in order to avoid bank failure in the case of another crash. The problem for banks is that they now can t use that small percentage of low yielding assets to turn a profit on, and this makes them very sad. You see, bank CEOs don t really care if their banks fail and millions of American are left in a lurch due to a lack of this protection. They simply want to make as much profit as possible and let the potential carnage to the markets be damned that s because the executives of a bank can walk away with all their money, while leaving a decimated stock market behind. Another aspect of the plan is that large banks must submit resolution plans to regulators each year detailing how their institution could be dissolved without harming financial markets. And this is terrible for banks because, I don t know, extra paperwork? Or maybe they just don t like to have to give the appearance of responsibility to American shareholders that s something that only other companies have to do.
