The audiolingual method emphasizes teaching listening and speaking before reading and writing. Its main goal is to enable students to communicate in the target language. Some key principles are that language learning involves habit formation, students should give correct responses rather than mistakes, and aural-oral training provides a foundation for other skills. Advantages include the ability to speak communicatively and understand lessons in the native language. Disadvantages are a lack of spontaneous speaking, limited student participation, and little attention to content or communication. Drill methods involve exercises to acquire skills through motor or mental repetition and association building.
