DIRECT METHOD
The direct method is considered as
natural method because learners
learn in a natural way the second
language without translation
THEORY OF THE LANGUAGE
Classroom instruction has to be
conducted exclusively in the target
language in order to learners show their
knowledges and skills in a natural way.
THEORY OF THE LEARNING
It creates communicative
competence in students, began to
experiment with new ways of
teaching language like direct
method
it’s based on the way learners
learn their native language and
second language too.
ROLE OF THE TEACHER
Teachers must encourage direct and
spontaneous use of the foreign language
in the classroom.
The teacher replaced the textbook in the
early stage of learning
Teacher must be able to communicate in
the second languge all time as possible
ROLE OF THE STUDENT
Students have to be able to make ask
questions as well as answer them
Students should learn to think in the
target language as soon as possible
they would then be able to induce rules
of grammar.
They must use the second language
outside the classroom
MATERIALS AND
SYLLABUS
-The syllabus is based on situations
or topics, not usually on linguistic
structures.
-Materials should be used to help
student understand the meaning like
pictures or images
AUDIOLINGUAL METHOD
Native speakers need training in listening comprehension,
accurate pronunciation, recognition of speech symbols as
graphic signs on the printed page, and ability to reproduce
these symbols in writing.
THEORY OF THE LEARNING AND
LANGUAGES
1. Foreign language learning is basically a process of mechanical habit
formation.
2. Language skills are learned more effectively if the items to be learned in
the target language are presented in spoken form before they are seen in
written form.
3. It is important recognize every single topics that teachers teach
4. The meanings that the words of a language have for the native speaker
can be learned only in a linguistic and cultural context
WHAT IS THE ROLE OF THE TEACHER AND
STUDENT?
Learner roles
• learners play a reactive role by
responding to stimuli, and thus have
little control over the content, pace, or
style of learning.
Teacher Roles
• The teacher controls the direction an
monitors and corrects the learner’s
performance in order to develop their
abilities inside the classroom and they
work in autonomous way.
MATERIALS AND SYLLABUS
Materials and syllabus in the Audiolingual
method assist the teacher to develop language
mastery in the learner. Student’s textbook is
often not used.
Tape recorders and audiovisual equipment
often have central roles in an audiolingual
course.

Direct and audiolingual method (jean romo)

  • 1. DIRECT AND AUDIOLINGUAL METHOD Names:Johanna Melendez and Jean Romo Course : 4th “B”
  • 2. DIRECT METHOD The direct method is considered as natural method because learners learn in a natural way the second language without translation
  • 3. THEORY OF THE LANGUAGE Classroom instruction has to be conducted exclusively in the target language in order to learners show their knowledges and skills in a natural way.
  • 4. THEORY OF THE LEARNING It creates communicative competence in students, began to experiment with new ways of teaching language like direct method it’s based on the way learners learn their native language and second language too.
  • 5. ROLE OF THE TEACHER Teachers must encourage direct and spontaneous use of the foreign language in the classroom. The teacher replaced the textbook in the early stage of learning Teacher must be able to communicate in the second languge all time as possible
  • 6. ROLE OF THE STUDENT Students have to be able to make ask questions as well as answer them Students should learn to think in the target language as soon as possible they would then be able to induce rules of grammar. They must use the second language outside the classroom
  • 7. MATERIALS AND SYLLABUS -The syllabus is based on situations or topics, not usually on linguistic structures. -Materials should be used to help student understand the meaning like pictures or images
  • 8. AUDIOLINGUAL METHOD Native speakers need training in listening comprehension, accurate pronunciation, recognition of speech symbols as graphic signs on the printed page, and ability to reproduce these symbols in writing.
  • 9. THEORY OF THE LEARNING AND LANGUAGES 1. Foreign language learning is basically a process of mechanical habit formation. 2. Language skills are learned more effectively if the items to be learned in the target language are presented in spoken form before they are seen in written form. 3. It is important recognize every single topics that teachers teach 4. The meanings that the words of a language have for the native speaker can be learned only in a linguistic and cultural context
  • 10. WHAT IS THE ROLE OF THE TEACHER AND STUDENT? Learner roles • learners play a reactive role by responding to stimuli, and thus have little control over the content, pace, or style of learning. Teacher Roles • The teacher controls the direction an monitors and corrects the learner’s performance in order to develop their abilities inside the classroom and they work in autonomous way.
  • 11. MATERIALS AND SYLLABUS Materials and syllabus in the Audiolingual method assist the teacher to develop language mastery in the learner. Student’s textbook is often not used. Tape recorders and audiovisual equipment often have central roles in an audiolingual course.
