Lawrence Lessig Net Neutrality
On December 30, 2015, Lawrence Lessig, Professor of Law and Ethics at Harvard University, who
had announced his candidacy for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination the previous month,
told the Wall Street Journal that, ...When push comes to shove, if certain services are not available to
you because of privacy restrictions, you back out of restrictions...Where I can protect privacy at very
low cost, people will want to protect privacy (The CIO Report RSS). Lessig was referring to the
controversial concept of net neutrality, which is essentially the idea that ISPs, or Internet service
providers, should allow the public to access any amount of content on the Internet the same way,
which is what currently the case, but some parties have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many individuals still believe in the progressive ideals that the Internet was founded upon, and want
to see that it continues to be a place for innovation, where information is free and available. They don
t want large corporations having very strict control over that. Only a few days ago, the House of
Representatives passed a bill in an attempt to limit the FCC s authority on net neutrality. The debate
on net neutrality is far from over, and no one knows how the Internet will operate a decade from now.
One thing is clear, however: the American people have a huge influence on what will ultimately
happen, so if they want to maintain the privacy and freedom that they desire, they need to continue to

The And The Natural World
Within earth science we have learned a lot about natural phenomenons. Within this Capstone project,
people will be able to see how these have affected not only the earth but society as well, specifically in
art. In the painting, Despair, people will see the affects of the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake and the
destruction it caused to the city. Edwin Deakin created the painting. The painting itself contains a
image from after the earthquake. The destruction of this earthquake is beautifully portrayed within this
painting and contains many elements that were described in class.
This Capstone project showed how much the natural world can be an inspiration for art. By
connecting the randomness of Mother Nature, along with the colors, and ... Show more content on

Any buildings that were left from the earthquake was soon destroyed by the fire. This is considered
one of the most horrible urban disasters in world history.
Causes of Earthquakes
Earthquakes are very interesting natural phenomena. It cannot be predicted by any amount of science
that is present today. It can cause great destruction but the only thing to do is prepare for it. An
earthquake can occur for many reasons. The boundaries of the plate tectonics are the reason for
Earthquakes. The earthquake taken place was on the San Andreas Fault, which is a Transform
boundary. A transform boundary is when two plates slide along each other. This can cause many
earthquakes but are usually relatively small. The two plates that are present are the Pacific plate and
the North American plate. The San Andreas Fault runs along the coast for about 1300 km. The plate
has a displacement and is considering by scientists as right lateral strike slip. This can be best
described as if you were standing on one side of the plate, North American, and when you stand there
the plate would move to your right.
Earthquake Waves and Magnitude
The earthquake has much more to it than just plates moving along side of each other. There is the
different kinds of waves that are present from the faults slipping, along with what the magnitude and
how it is measured. The different types of waves that are produced by an earthquake is Primary waves,

The Life Of Saint Philomena
Saint Philomena was the daughter of a Prince who governed one of the states in Greece and her
Mother too was from the royal family. Unfortunately, her parents had no children, but they worshiped
idols. However, they continue to offer sacrifices and prayers to their false gods. Certainly, there was a
doctor from Rome named Publius, who lived next to them in order to check up her father. Publius was
a Christian; seeing the suffering of her parents, inspired by the Holy Spirit, he spoke to them about
Christianity and promised to pray for them when they accept Baptism. Clearly, the burning zeal of
grace accompanied his words and enlightened they are perceptive and triumphed over their will. They
became Christians and obtained their long desired contentment that Publius had assured them as the
reward of their conversion. Eventually, Philomena was born; they gave her the name of Luminous, an
allusion to the light of Faith of which she had been, as it were, the fruit. The day of her Baptism her
parents called her Filumena, or Daughter of Light, that means she was intuitive into the Faith. In
addition, the love which her parents had for her was so great that they had her always with them.
Philomena assured Jesus Christ that her virginity belongs to him. Meanwhile, her family had to go to
Rome because her father had a problem with the Emperor concerning his province. Consequently,
when Diocletian saw Philomena, he loved her and he wanted Philomena to be his wife. He seemed to

The Living Planet Index ( Lpi )
Over the course of history, many scientist experts have raised the fright and panic about population
numbers that only increase every year. According to the Living Planet Report, the Living Planet Index
(LPI), which measures more than 10,000 representative populations of mammals, birds, reptiles,
amphibians and fish, has declined by 52 per cent since 1970. Population sizes of different species in
the world has dropped by at least half. Some of these species are the living things that establishes the
fabric of the ecosystems which sustain life on Earth. In the following two centuries, the population
increased at an annual growth rate of 6 per 1,000, reaching 2.5 billion by 1950. In the following five
decades, it has more than doubled, at a growth rate of 18 per 1,000 to reach more than 6 billion in
2000. The world population will reach 8 billion to 10 billion by the year 2030 (Robbins, 130). Today,
we are using and taking so much from our ecosystems and natural processes, we are actually exposing
and exploiting our own very existence on Earth. Nature preservation and sustainable ecological
development complement each other. They are just as much about protecting the future of humanity
our well being, economy, food security, and social stability. Earth s population is approaching ten
billion at the same time that resource limits and environmental deprivation are becoming more
apparent every day. Rich countries have long guaranteed poor nations that they, too, would

Examples Of Virtual Representation In The American Colonies
After the French and Indian War the United Colonies and Britain began to clash. This was, for the
most part, due to taxation without representation. Britain had began to tax the colonists heavily due to
the debt of the war. On top of this King George III had just made the proclamation of 1763, preventing
all colonists from settling west of the Appalachian Mountains. This upset the colonists because they
had just fought risking their lives for that land and now they are told they cannot use it. Britain s point
of view on taxation without representation was that the colonists were being represented through
virtual representation. While the colonists point of view was that virtual representation was not a fair
way to be represented and instead should be represented through actual representation. Britain
believes that the best way for the colonies of america to be represented is through virtual
representation. Virtual representation means that the representatives themselves are not necessarily
from the region they are representing. Britain s thinking process on this, and argument of why virtual
is better than actual representation, is because with virtual they are able to have an expert on that
region as the representative instead of someone who may be from that region but is less qualified. An
example of virtual representation was the Stamp Act where the colonists had no say or control over it
being passed. The Stamp Act was a direct tax on paper products. Other examples of

The American Collegiate System
Right now in the American collegiate system, we are experiencing serious problems in the rate of
graduation between students in higher and lower income quartiles. The purpose of Tough s article is to
not only present this issue to a larger audience, but to show that there are practical solutions colleges
could be taking to narrow this gap. Tough is writing specifically regarding Texas A M because through
David Laude and David Yeager s Tip program they are having stunning success in evening out the
playing field for less advantaged students. This essay is important because to solve this issue on a
larger scale it is imperative that people become aware of it, and understand that there are steps we can
take to reverse it. This essay was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another example of this is when Tough introduces Laude and Yeager, Tough uses them as transitional
points in the text, but also he uses their work as potential solutions to the problem he is presenting.
This style of transition would be fine if executed correctly. However, the way in which Tough
organized these transitions pulls the reader back and forth between different subjects, at times losing
the focus of the article, and making it easy for the reader to get lost within the text.
Another problem readers may face is the style of Tough s writing, mainly due to his tendency to
ramble, and his disposition for redundancy. [example] Tough did a great job at supporting his
argument with the statistics he presented. However, often times the statistics but this unnecessary
information took away the conciseness of the article, and causes his main points to have less of an
impact then they could have. One potential area that could pose big problems for someone reading this
is overall length of this article. Length is not generally an issue because readers tend to develop their
own strategies when dealing with a long read, either by reading in chunks, or reading it all in one go,
readers still have the capacity to finish what they are assigned. However, the redundancy of the text,

Persuasive Essay On Colon Cancer
Colonoscopy: Your Colon Cancer Fighter At one time or another, you will most likely get a
colonoscopy. It s not going to be necessarily enjoyable, but it is preventing you from getting colon
cancer, which is the leading cause of cancer deaths. Furthermore, this year it s expected to claim the
lives of nearly 50,000 people in the United States. All for something that is largely preventable if you
take the right action!
Colonoscopies are the most common way to detect colon cancer. Therefor doctors recommend regular
screening tests every 10 years, but people with higher risk, such as a family history with the disease or
old age may need to go in more frequently. Normally people should begin screenings at age 50 but
people with an increased risk or signs of symptoms, should talk to their doctor about the best plan.
Consequently, most people don t think they need to go in because they don t show any symptoms, it s
money for something they probably don t even have, or they think since no one else in their family has
had it, their safe, but they re actually excuses for something that could help save you from the grueling
pains of colon cancer. For those of you, I urge you to be vigilant about possibilities. No matter what

Old Major Speech
The Russian Revolution began in 1917, with two significant revolts occurring that year. By 1924
Russia became the United Soviet Socialist Republic, and new leader Joseph Stalin leads with harsh
dictatorship. His goals for industrializations included unrealistic quotas for workers, peasants were
treated poorly and he created a secret police which terrorized citizens. George Orwell, angry that
people in Europe admired Soviet Russia, wrote Animal Farm as a critical novel about Joseph Stalin.
Many may argue that his novel is an inaccurate portrayal as Vladimir Lenin is omitted, however
George Orwell s Animal Farm is a valid representation of the events in the Russian Revolution as Old

Old Major was an aged boar who felt the need for change in manor farm. He introduces the theories
and ideas on which the rebellion is based and it is his intention to simplify it suitably so that the
animals can understand. He encourages a rebellion with his speech, in which he professes, All animals
are equal (Orwell 4). Old Major spoke of Animalism, where he expounds on equality, as no animal is
better than the other. Everyone is equal to each other, one of the main aspects of communism. This
corresponds to Marx s vision of communism where the proletariat is equal with the bourgeoisie as he
believes, class distinctions have disappeared (Marx 1848). Both focus on a classless society, where
everyone is equal. As Marx stood for the rights of the people, so Old Major intended to institute a
philosophy that would free the animals from human tyranny, creating an equal and fair system with no
class structure. Old Major dies before he can see his dreams become reality, similar as Karl Marx died
before his theories could change the face of history. Orwell shows how there are positive intentions
behind the ideas that spark revolutions however that does not always

in the stories The Necklace , The Golden Touch , and King Midas. In The Necklace, there are many
examples of imbalance in want and need. The wife in the story is one example of the imbalance. The

treated equally so and the pill is just one examples that men do to suppress women. Some women will

The story starts with a man named Spencer looking out towards his pool where the pool cleaner was.
The pool cleaner was not very cautious and would hit the surrounding bonsai trees. The trees were
very delicate so leaves and branches would fall off disrupting the symmetry that the protagonist had
worked so hard to achieve. Spencer had talked to the cleaner about being more careful but it did
nothing to help with the problem. On that particular day Spencer saw the cleaner knock a major
branch of his favorite tree. The story then jumps back to Spencer s past to when he got his first bonsai.
He had illegally given a patient of his extra medicine because he was out and was about to go on a
trip. As a token of gratitude the man gave spencer his first bonsai and his addiction only grew from
there. It then goes on to talk about Spencer s growing obsession towards the plants and how he began
to read and take classes about magic. It then goes back to the present where the pool cleaner has
disappeared. His car is still there but the cleaner and his pool skimmer are missing. Surrounding the
tree that the cleaner had just broke was an artificial pool. Behind the pool was a little fisherman but if
you looked closer you would realize that the figure was not oriental and did not have a fishing pole but
a miniature pool skimmer. And if you got even closer you could hear the figure calling for help. This
story is about death because Spencer had taken magic classes and practices voodoo and eventually

The Stomatognathic System
The stomatognathic system (SS) is composed by dynamic and static components that requires balance
and control determine by the central nervous system (CNS), which makes them responsible for the
harmonious functioning and to perform different tasks (to speak, to break food down, and to swallow).
The SS is characterized by: skeletal components, dental arches, soft tissues, and temporomandibular
joint and masticatory muscles.(Cuccia and Caradonna 2009; Garcia de Paula Silva, Francisco
Wanderley, Mussolino de Queiroz, Alexandra, Díaz Serrano, Kranya Victoria. 2008) Posture refers to
the position of the human body and its orientation in space. This involves muscles activation that are
controlled by the CNS, which guide postural adjustments. These modifications can be induced by
afferent inputs like: exteroceptive, proprioceptive, vestibular an visual; all of them modulated by
different factors, such as anxiety and mood state. (Cuccia and Caradonna 2009). Temporomandibular

Hope In The Trojan Women
Troy lies in ruins after Greek armies win the Trojan War and ransack the city. The Trojan Women is
not to a great extent a tragic account; however a depiction of a tragic situation of the horrors of war
and its aftermath, whereby Euripides dramatizes the hardships of war and to some extent is an ironical
illustration of hope. Euripides often uses unconventional views of Greek society, particularly the life
of women and slaves; in the The Trojan Women we establish that the slave women encompass a
nobility state of mind that stands in unusual contrast to the inhumanity of the victorious Greek
warriors. The terrors of war have hardly changed within thousands of years. We can say the same
about war now, Euripides was trying to say with his play ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

sentiments. Her renowned beauty is a trap that she deliberately and opportunistically utilizes to

Essay on Walt Whitman
Walt Whitman
In parting with traditional poetic formalities, Walt Whitman alleviated a burden that impeded his
ability to achieve full poetic expression. To Whitman, the strict boundaries that formal meter,
structure, and rhyme imposed set limits on his stylistic freedom. This is not to say that these limits
prevented Whitman from conveying his themes. Rather, they presented a contradiction to which
Whitman refused to conform. In Whitman s eyes, to meet these formal guidelines one would also have
to sacrifice the ability to express qualities and passion of living men. Thus, Whitman contested
traditional poetic protocol because it added a layer of superficiality that concerned itself with creating
perfect rhythmical, metrical, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This meant that stanzas consisted of a predetermined amount of lines or that the poem had a
predetermined amount of stanzas. Augmenting this formal structure were predetermined rhyme
schemes (such as abab cdcd efef gg in Shakespearean sonnets). Based on the above, we can describe
traditional poetic etiquette as adhering to the suggested formal patterns predetermined by the tradition
of British poetry. Just in reaching the above conclusion, a problem arises that all poets, not just
Whitman, face when trying to conform to this style. This problem is that all of these rules are
cumbersome. It is difficult for a poet to convey the theme of a poem when he or she is concerned with
whether or not each word fits into a designated formal pattern. Yet, some would argue that this is what
makes poetry such an elegant art form. Surely, Whitman recognized the genius found in Shakespeare s
sonnets and other constitutive examples of traditional British poetry. However, whether or not
Whitman recognized the genius of great traditional British poets, is inconsequential. What did matter
was whether or not Whitman felt that this style was appropriate for him. The answer is no. Whitman
found problems not simply with the fact that clinging to the traditional style might be burdensome
(surely this would not have been an insurmountable task for Whitman), but his main issue with
traditional style concerned the ornamental effect of formal regularity:

I attended the University of Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra and Symphonic Wind Ensemble concert
on Thursday, October 8. The concert was located at the Ruth Lily Performance Hall in the Christel
DeHaan Fine Arts Center. The venue was calming and comfortable. It is a very nice set up, but not
extremely fancy. People arrived in anything ranging from suits and dresses to jeans and t shirts. The
environment was welcoming and approachable for all the guests. I was able to see almost all of the
parts of the stage and all the members of each group. Noise levels throughout the concert were very
low. The only thing that would ve have been nice is if they could have dimmed the audience lights to
create a better mood. The lights in the auditorium just seemed to be very bright at times. During the
Chamber Orchestra and Symphonic Wind Ensemble all the performers were wearing all black. I
imagine they did this for style and consistency. By wearing all the same color, it helps them look
professional and more uniform at the same time so people can pay attention to the music and not the
musicians choice of attire. Some women had slight sparkles or accents to their attire and some men
you could see the white of their suits but everything else was black which created an element of class

The Philosophy And Philosophy Of Ibn Al- ø Arab ƒ™
Category: Religion/Philosophy/Islamic Philosophy and Theology
The main themes of the book consist of epistemological tools, i.e. revelation, the human intellect,
inspiration unveiling used by Ibn al ʿArabī and Ibn Taymiyya, and a theological subject, the divine
names and attributes that they have detailed elaborations on it.
Synopsis: The purpose of the book is to focus on potential similarities found in epistemological
hierarchies of Ibn al ʿArabī (d. 1240) and Ibn Taymiyya (d. 1328), and reflections of these similarities
on their theologies. At the first part of the book, which comprises of two chapters, I examine
revelation, the human intellect, and inspiration unveiling as epistemological means used by both Ibn al
ʿArabī and Ibn Taymiyya. Both of them claim to have followed precisely the Quran and hadiths of the
Prophet Muhammad when religious knowledge is in question. Unlike some philosophers and Kalam
theologians, who may consider the human intellect valuable equally with the revelation, Ibn al ʿArabī
and Ibn Taymiyya affirm the highest status of the Quran and hadiths indisputably. Having confirmed
the most elevated status of the revelation, namely the Quran and hadiths, they differ prominently. For
Ibn al ʿArabī the most reliable way of religious knowledge is unveiling while for Ibn Taymiyya, the
human intellect must be given precedence over unveiling. Therefore, it can be said that the
epistemological hierarchy of Ibn al ʿArabī is constituted with the revelation,

Overseas Study Australian Universities
Explain why overseas study at Australian universities is popular.
In this current modern era of our time, it can be seen that an enormous number of students prefer to
study overseas in Australian universities. For the purpose of this essay, overseas study refers to the act
of travelling beyond your country to receive tertiary education. There are numerous reasons as to why
universities in Australia are popular. Students may choose Australia universities for the high quality

A primary reason for the rise in popularity of overseas study in Australian universities is the high

Psychological Trauma In Children
Psychological trauma in children is defined as the mental result of one or more external situations
which causes temporary helplessness beyond a person s ordinary coping skills (Ogawa, 2004). One of
the most disturbing and devastating trauma in society is the abuse and neglect of children. Many
abused children suffer from emotional and behavioural difficulties, which often require psychotherapy
(James Mennen, 2001). Abused children describe trauma pain as overwhelming feelings of anxiety,
sadness, emptiness, loneliness, dirty and cheap. As such trauma pain is extremely unpleasant, and
most abused and deprived children employ defense mechanisms to deny and repress the trauma. The

U.s. Subprime Mortgage Crisis Essay
The U.S. subprime mortgage crisis was a set of events and conditions that led to the late 2000s
financial crisis, characterized by a rise in subprime mortgage delinquencies and foreclosures, and the
resulting decline of securities backed by said mortgages. After U.S. housing sales prices peaked in mid
2006 and began their steep decline, refinancing became more difficult. As adjustable rate mortgages
began to reset at higher interest rates, mortgage delinquencies soared. Securities backed with
mortgages, including subprime mortgages, widely held by financial firms, lost most of their value.
Global investors also drastically reduced purchases of mortgage backed debt and other securities as
part of a decline in the capacity and willingness of the private financial system to support lending.
Concerns about the soundness of U.S. credit and financial markets led to tightening credit around the
world and slowing economic growth in the U.S. and Europe.
The immediate cause or trigger of the crisis was the bursting of the United States housing bubble
which peaked in approximately 2005 2006. Caused by an increase in loan incentives such as easy
initial terms and a long term trend of rising housing prices had encouraged borrowers to assume
difficult mortgages in the belief they would be able to quickly refinance at more favorable terms. Once
interest rates began to rise and housing prices started to drop moderately in 2006 in many parts of the
U.S., refinancing became more difficult. As

Mixture Of Unidentified Organic Compounds Lab Report
A couple of mixtures of unidentified organic compounds (a mixture of two liquids and another
mixture of two solid compounds) were obtained, and the compounds of each mixture were then
separated, isolated, and purified. The compounds of the liquid liquid mixture were isolated by simple
distillation, and the compounds in the mixture of solids were extracted by liquid liquid extraction, and
later purified through recrystallization. Physical properties such as boiling points, melting points, and
densities were used to identify each isolated compound. After analysis, the first liquid was identified
by a boiling range of 81.0°C 81.3°C and a density of 0.7882g/mL, and the second liquid was
identified by a boiling range of 91.7°C 91.9°C and a density of 0.8578 g/mL. The crude solid products
were purified and recrystallized, providing a white crystalline solid (MP = 35.2 37.8 °C) in 46.9%
yield, and a white powdery solid (MP = 121.9 122.1 °C) in 2.40% yield.

Iroquois: Native Life, Assimilation, and War
The Iroquois nations, one of the oldest and most prestigious tribes in the history of all Native
Americans. In this paper I will be showing why the Iroquois ended up siding with the English through
the French and Indian, and Revolutionary wars through factors of colonization. I will also be showing
some features of their culture, considering the iroquois are not well known in the western United
States, and discussing the fall of the once great tribes. The main reason I ve chosen the Iroquois is
because of my own prior knowledge of the Iroquois, and their relationship to lacrosse. I started
playing lacrosse my freshman year of highschool. The very first thing I learned, before any stick skills
or any basics of the game, was the history of it. Our coach insisted that we knew the history and the
culture of the game, and that we respected it. I was intrigued by how interesting the game was. The
game was made as a form of war. Lacrosse was sometimes even referred to as Little brother of war . It
would be called this because injury, even death were common during a lacrosse game. When two
tribes had a disagreement, but didn t feel the need to have a legitimate war, the opposing tribes would
send their best warriors to the battlefield and play a lacrosse game. Games would be played to a score
of 5 7, but considering how long the fields could be, these games could take hours, days even,
however long it took for one of the tribes to win,

Death Penalty Impact On Society
The death penalty is a legal process where the person who had committed an insane crime of murder
is sentenced to death by the state, as a demonstration of punishment for what the accuser has
committed. Since long before, people have been using this method not only to show the consequences
of committing an insane crime, but also as a kind of notice to anyone who had the intentions of
committing such crimes. With no doubt, the death penalty has been a part of combating human crime
in society for many centuries, and is considered a necessary way to eradicate dangerous criminals. In
other people s views, the subject of needing the death penalty became considered as an inhumane and
unjust way to control and prevent criminal activity, its purpose and forms of use have been questioned
for many years and the debate on whether it is necessary or not has been circling around. The death
penalty needs to be kept in place as a way to prevent insane crimes, by taking an in depth look at how
it affects society. A just society requires the death penalty for the taking of a life. When a criminal
takes a life the justice a society has established is disturbed and the only way to accommodate for that
disturbance is to restore the peace by taking the criminal s life. Therefore, this allows society to show
that murder or any other act of the same sort is intolerable. The death penalty ensures criminals that
commit murder and rape won t escape or be released again. Ernest Van Den Haag, a

In Vitro Gametogenesis Essay
In America, we are groomed from childhood to believe that one day we will grow up and have
children. This is instilled in our youth through children s toys such as baby dolls that teach young girls
to care for a child and by playing house . Sadly, for many this is an unattainable goal. Due to medical
complications or inability to find a suitable mate, many must resort to other means, such as adoption
or artificial insemination to reach this goal. However, even with these alternatives, many remain
unable to become parents. Science may be able to change this through the use of In Vitro
Gametogenesis.
Claim: The United States Federal Government should fund research for In Vitro Gametogenesis
(IVG).
Grounds: The use of In Vitro Gametogenesis will help many families who dream of procreating but
are physically incapable of doing so. IVG would allow a sperm cell or an egg to be created out of stem

Bitzer stated that exigence, which was capable of modification by way of discourse was needed

procreate biologically, as well as whether the ability to choose genetic traits for offspring would put
couples who can afford the treatment method at an unfair advantage over individuals who cannot
afford such methods. Additionally, the question rises of whether the embryos that are created but not
used in the procreation should be destroyed, donated, or frozen (Bourne, Douglas, Savulescu, 2012).
As these questions are based on morality and ethics, as opposed to statistics and data, they can be

Americans living in the British colonies didn t feel like living in liberty being under the tyranny of
King George III. Their happiness (the one they once thought they d find leaving the Old World) was
far from being achieved under so many taxes. Jefferson defended the idea that these rights must be
secured by governments instituted by men, and that when these governments become destructive of
these rights, the people have the right to abolish those institutions and to create new ones in order to
secure their principles. Further in this same long second paragraph, Jefferson accuses King George III
(he doesn t name him directly, but it is obvious that he makes him responsible because King George
III was the person holding the highest position in the British Government at that moment) of
despotism, and of having established a tyranny over the States. Thomas Jefferson enumerates a series
of facts to prove the right to dissolve the political bands with the mother country. Summing up some
of the next paragraphs Jefferson refers to the lack of Colonial representation in the governing British
Parliament, and many colonists considered some of the laws of the British Government to be

Analysis of Karen Russell
Analysis of Karen Russell s St. Lucy s Home for girls Raised by Wolves St. Lucy s Home for girls
Raised by Wolves, Karen Russell s collection of fantastical short stories take all that is mundane and
fractures it into a fantastical world with humor, dramatic tone, or cultural/religious undertones. Russell
whirls a reader into her stories with her capability to encase a reader in the story with her repetition of
one s senses. Constantly brining in the senses of a reader brought in the smells of a surrounding from
the protagonist or in this case the narrator. In St. Lucy s Home for girls Raised by Wolves, our
narrator, Claudette, speaks from the mind of a half human half wolf in transition. Of the pack s

Claudette becomes known as the protagonist and narrator shortly after this switch. After every sense,
emotion, and interaction was a pack experience, for Russell to cut this tie and create a story that is of
an individual is a subtle experience at first; from a united thought process that slowly turn individual
to self centered and selfish. This is apparent in Claudette s frame of mind towards her little sister
Mirabella, from the pack worrying about Mirabella (230) to Claudette singular thoughts and emotions
toward her littlest sister . This switch epitomizes the coming to age alone tone that Russell creates,
initially the pack protected each other, thought as one, and were connected in every way till they
adapted to the new environment, becoming singular units growing up isolated from each other snarl at
one another for no reason (229) becoming accustomed to thinking individually as an independent
person. These stories although diverse in content and storyline Russell connects each to another
almost subconsciously. They share similar struggle of coming of age stories, stories of isolation in the
first person that reveal one trait or another within the battle. Despite the fact that is the same reasoning
with each story it has a new outcome, therefor the stories are not repetitive while the elements used
might be. Russell s constant use of senses or imagery of hands and feet do not subtract from the story
but heighten them. Russell

Appropriation In Art History
Appropriation in art and art history refers to the practice of artists using pre existing objects or images
in their art with little transformation of the original (Tate, no date). Artists have been appropriating for
many centuries and tend to use the most iconic of masterpieces from the past and make them more
contemporary for today s style. The Mona Lisa by Leonardo Da Vinci is one of the greatest examples
of this act. It is one of the most famous and well known paintings ever created; however the piece has
been manipulated by other artists, so much that the meaning behind the original is indefinite. If a piece
of which is so recognisable in our society be stolen from other artists, this leaves us with the question

This is a representation of the Marilyn Monroe Piece by Yu Youhan produced in the Chinese century

Youhan replicated the same method to Warhol s all time famous artwork but altered the subject of the
design. Instead of Monroe he replaced the figure as the chairman Mao. He used Mao as part of a

painting and Mao becomes the centre of attention and the main topic of the piece.

Growth Of The Asset Management Industry
In the present epoch s market driven yet economically fragile world corporations and companies of all
extents and hues have multifaceted stakes to take care of while focusing on their core objectives.
Billions are spent by them every year to acquire, sustain, maintain, operate and later decommission
assets not only physical but also non physical assets. So asset management remains at the core of the
mission of many corporations whose top management keeps its focus on the acquisition of profitable
assets and for the optimally safe yet promising use of investments. The asset management industry has
seen a boom also due to the increasingly unpredictable economic conditions of the world so in order to
remain ahead of, or at least at par with their competitors, all businesses or corporations need to ensure
maximum possible returns on their assets. It is projected that by 2020 the asset management industry
would have $100 trillion global investable funds and would register an annual growth rate of as high
as 6% (PwC, 2014). This positive projection of growth of the asset management industry is due also to
the inroads of technology in the domain of asset management industry as to many other new factors or
game changers such as transformation of fee models, growing preeminence of asset management
functions, changing shares of the regional and global asset management firms, and an ever growing
demand for cost effective services. Ever since technology started spreading its tentacles

Areas of incomplete fissures show fusion of pulmonary parenchyma of the two adjacent lobes.

Vagus nerve
Left and right vagus nerves enter the respective superior mediastinum posterior to the sternocalvicular
joint and brachiocephalic vein. The right vagus crosses the subclavian artery posterior to the right
sternoclavicular joint where it gives off the right recurrent laryngeal nerve, which in turn loops around
the artery to ascend upwards. The right recurrent laryngeal nerve then reaches the tracheoesophageal
groove posterior to the common carotid artery. This nerve is rarely damaged during thoracic surgical
procedures but may be torn in a malignant decortication. Within the thorax, the vagus nerve travels
posteriorly in the superior mediastinum then posteromedial to the right brachiocephalic vein and
superior vena cava. It passes behind the pulmonary hilum where it assists in the formation of the

Trophy Hunting
Two months ago, moral panic hit the US when once obscure African lion, Cecil, met a seemingly
illegal slaughter by Minnesota dentist Walter Palmer at Zimbabwe s Hwange National Park, a short
distance of about 8,000 miles from Miami, Florida. Cecil, an unique and beloved lion with black
mane, was illegal murdered when Palmer, a trophy hunter, reportedly paid Zimbabwean guides for the
opportunity to slaughter the creature inside the park, using a carcass to lure him out (Walters, 2015).
Although lions are typically one of the species that can be legally hunted, outraged people across the
world are wondering when the African government will do something about the concerns of lions
becoming extinct unlike and unimportant to how 99 percent of currently threatened species are at risk

Life Of Pi By Ang Lee
Life of Pi Film Analysis Everyone grows up. Some sooner than others. It may be subtle, and it could
be traumatizing. In The Life of Pi produced by Ang Lee, Pi got the latter. The major running theme
throughout the movie is that the loss of innocence is something everyone goes through. Ang Lee
shows this in the use of lighting, angles, and sound effects in multiple scenes. When Pi has to change
his name because the kids at school were making fun of him, when he is forced to watch the tiger eat
the baby goat alive, his first love and his first heartbreak, when his family has to move away from his
home, losing his entire family in a shipwreck, caring for himself and a tiger while at sea, and finally,
in realizing what actually happened those first few days after the shipwreck are all examples of this
theme. Piscine Molitor Patel, or Pi, was named after the cleanest, most pure swimming pool in all of
France. This brings in the cinematic effect of the water and what it resembles throughout the movie.
When good things happen, the water will be clear and pure. When bad things happen (or will happen),
the water is cloudy or reflective. At the young age of 11, kids from Pi s school start making fun of
him, calling him Pissing , soiling the pure and innocent meaning behind his name and what it stands
for. With one word my name went from an elegant French swimming pool to a stinking Indian latrine,

others do not have the same goal or cannot see the big picture. It is then up to the leader to reinforce
the drive for excellence. She encourages leaders to find opportunities to learn from others said that she
and her husband listen to motivational tapes while in the car. The McFerrins find it important to find
ways to think positive and learn from how others have solved problems. McFerrin said, We are all
teachers and learners in life (D. McFerrin, personal communication, February 25, 2017) and we
should take time to learn from those that have had more experiences and have solved more problems.

Female Stereotypes In The Media Essay
Female Stereotypes In The Media
In the media the most common female stereotypes, are the housewife and the blonde bimbo.
The Housewife. Chained to the kitchen sink, always cleaning and cooking. An old stereotype.
In the advertisement for Shake `n Vac a woman is doing the vacuuming and dancing around shaking
Shake `n Vac on the floor. This is a stereotype for the reason that a man is nowhere to be found. But in
advertisements for intelligent matters like finance, it s always a man.
At first, when I saw the advertisement for Mc Cain s chips, I thought the woman in it wasn t
stereotypical, as she was not cooking the meal, the man was. But after a while I saw that this was just

For instance, I saw an advertisement in which a woman was showing some people round her house.
She shows them the rooms and then she says, ôAnd here s my garage,ö and you see this room with
white ceilings, white wallpaper, cupboards and lights and a car. This was meant to be humorous
showing that this woman went to the extreme of even tiding up her garage.
The Blonde Bimbo. Long or fluffy hair, revealing clothes. Sometimes dumb, not able to use machines,
dependant on her man, not able to do anything, can t control her emotions over men.
When I watched the TV to find some examples of stereotypes, the first thing I saw was a trailer for a
documentary about David Bailey. Included were lots of female models. They were all skinny, they had
really thick make up on and lots of them were blonde. The dialogue included ôThe photographer slept
with 300 womenö and one of his models saying, ôYeah I ll get my tits out for him.ö The trailer was
representing all of the models as sluts.
Changing the channel to Challenge TV some more stereotypes of women appeared. The females on
the show were the presenter of the game show, Donna Air, who had long curly blonde hair, and a shirt
with half the buttons not done up showing off her bra, and a contestant who also had blonde hair, had
big boobs, and was wearing a low cut top and was referred to by the other host as ôSexy ZoÙ!ö This

Nature s Fury Controversy
I visited the exhibit Nature s Fury: The Science of Natural Disasters, at the American Museum of
Natural History and was amazed by the entire adventure. When I entered the section titled Nature s
Furry I could feel my inner child stirring inside as I glanced over all the exhibits. The eight minute
presentation of how the earth has been affected by all of these natural disasters felt a little unnerving. I
loved how they divided the exhibit into four sections, which were Earthquakes, Volcanic eruptions,
Tornados and Hurricanes. I skillfully created my own volcano and watched it erupt. Stood in the
middle of a room so I could feel like the eye of a tornado and had a panoramic view. I happily
stomped to be recorded by a seismic wave

Regulatory Requirements Of The Pharmaceutical Industry Us,...
In order for biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies to market their biologics and drugs,
companies must receive approval from their respective regulatory authority. The three global leaders
in the pharmaceutical industry US, EU, and Japan all have their own regulatory authorities. Each have
their advantages and disadvantages and as a regulatory representative. Though there is a push to
harmonize regulatory requirements at a global scale for the past 20 years development and approval of
global guidelines has had drawbacks in approving drugs at a globally. The high regulatory uncertainty
is considered as a major barrier for efficient development of safe and effective biological therapies,
hence deterring entry for large multinational pharmaceutical companies to develop innovative
biological products at a global level.1 For a biotechnology company it can be difficult to chose which
market to seek the regulatory approval for first and many questions come to mind for which country
will be beneficial for market approval. Personally as a regulatory affairs professional I would seek
approval in the US due to the comprehensive history and development of the food and drug
administration and the acceptance of the regulatory pathway at a global scale. Also the EU and US
regulatory systems are more similar than different, and due to recent steps in harmonization from both
regulatory regimes in scientific testing standards and clinical trials, it can make it more efficient to

Determination Of The Presence Of Herpes Simplex
Determination of the presence of Herpes simplex through Indirect ELISA
Priscilla Mariel M. Cadiz
Biology Department, De La Salle University, 2401 Taft Ave, Manila, Philippines
*Email: cadizpriscillamariel@yahoo.com
Sexually transmitted disease is currently one of the major health concerns in the world today. Herpes
simplex virus is one cause of STDs. There are two types of HSV present namely HSV 1 which is often
found in the mouth area and HSV 2 found at the genitals. Indirect ELISA was used in order to
determine the presence of Herpes simplex among 3 different samples. Indirect ELISA involves two
antibodies; the primary antibody which is bound to the antigen and secondary antibody bound to the
primary antibody. Results produced by indirect ELISA produces better amplified signal. Results
obtained showed that 1 of the 3 samples tested positive for HSV. Indirect ELISA however cannot
determine what specific type of HSV is present in the sample. The cause of HSV 1 is the exchange of
body fluids particularly obtained through kissing while sexual contact causes HSV 2. Though it rarely
happens, there are possibilities that false positive or false negative results were obtained in Indirect
ELISA. Interference may cause error.

presence of a target protein of interest in an experimental sample and how much of protein is present

The Nba Makes A Profit
The NBA makes a profit in many ways, for example the NBA makes millions of dollars off of
sponsorships, television contracts and selling merchandise. The National Basketball Association
recently signed a new TV agreement with TNT and ESPN to approximately make $2.6 billion per
season. Even with a total of 400 or so odd active players making an average of close to $5 million
annually, national TV contracts generate enough revenue to cover salaries and then some.
This graph depicts league revenue of the National Basketball Association from the 2001/02 season to
the 2014/15 season (Statistica, 2016). As seen the chart above clearly indicates the NBA makes a
profit and has been gradually increasing throughout the years, except for the season of 2011/12 but
that s because the season was shorted due to the lockout that had taken place.
The NBA has many different sponsors. Sponsorship spending On the NBA Totals $739 Million in
2014 2015 Season up 8.9 percent from the previous year, according to IEG research. A list of the NBA
sponsors are Anheuser Busch, Gatorade, Coca cola, Adidas, Miller Coors, Kia Spalding, Geico and
etc. Anheuser Busch is the most active sponsor of the NBA. In time insurance overtook autos to
become the most active category sponsoring the NBA. Insurance companies are five times more likely
to sponsor professional basketball than the average of all sponsors, according to the research. Auto and
beer are the second and third most active categories.

Compare And Contrast Grass Dancing And Fancy Shawl Dancing
Both grass dancing and fancy shawl dancing can be seen at Native American powwows throughout the
United States. The dancer moves to the consistent pulse of the drum, touching their foot to the ground
with each drum beat. Shawl dancing and grass dancing require a fair amount of skill and practice, as
they can be complex and very energetic dances in which one has to move quickly yet smoothly around
the arena.
The grass dance and fancy shawl dance have contrast in their origins. Grass dancing is thought to have
originated in the Plains tribes when the elders ordered the young men to stomp down the tall grasses in
preparation for meetings, camps, powwows, or other ceremonies. Some tribes believe that God created
the grass dance to represent a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Grass dancers typically wear base attire with fringe made of yarn, broadcloth, or ribbon throughout the
regalia. In addition, they wear an H harness, which is a set of 2 long suspenders that hang to below the
knees. Cuffs, a headband, a belt, and side tabs are also common. There are fewer feathers involved in
grass dance regalia than men s traditional regalia. Usually only a roach feather with 1 2 feathers or 2
fluff antennae with be perched atop the dancer s head. As the grass dancer circles the arena, he may
hold feathers, dream catchers, hoops, or dance sticks. Fancy shawl dancers wear a dress or a skirt,
often times with a vest or yoke over their head. Some dancers may wear belts, beaded hairpieces,
chokers, earrings, bracelets, and eagle plumes. Moccasins are the common footwear, while leggings
cover the calves of the legs. The shawl is obviously the most significant part of the dancer s regalia
because as an extension of the arms, it assists in depicting the dancer s story . Long ribbons or fringes
drop from the bottom of the shawl almost to the ground. Many shawls are also decorated with
gorgeous embroidery or ribbon work to illustrate the dancer s

The debate on net neutrality is far from over, and no one knows how the Internet will operate a decade from now. Within this Capstone project, people will be able to see how these have affected not only the earth but society as well, specifically in art. In the painting, Despair, people will see the affects of the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake and the destruction it caused to the city. Edwin Deakin created the painting. The painting itself contains a image from after the earthquake. The destruction of this earthquake is beautifully portrayed within this painting and contains many elements that were described in class. Causes of Earthquakes Earthquakes are very interesting natural phenomena. It cannot be predicted by any amount of science that is present today. It can cause great destruction but the only thing to do is prepare for it. An earthquake can occur for many reasons. The boundaries of the plate tectonics are the reason for Earthquakes. The earthquake taken place was on the San Andreas Fault, which is a Transform boundary. A transform boundary is when two plates slide along each other. This can cause many earthquakes but are usually relatively small. The two plates that are present are the Pacific plate and the North American plate. The San Andreas Fault runs along the coast for about 1300 km. The plate has a displacement and is considering by scientists as right lateral strike slip. This can be best described as if you were standing on one side of the plate, North American, and when you stand there the plate would move to your right. • 4. The Life Of Saint Philomena Saint Philomena was the daughter of a Prince who governed one of the states in Greece and her Mother too was from the royal family. Unfortunately, her parents had no children, but they worshiped idols. However, they continue to offer sacrifices and prayers to their false gods. Certainly, there was a doctor from Rome named Publius, who lived next to them in order to check up her father. Publius was a Christian; seeing the suffering of her parents, inspired by the Holy Spirit, he spoke to them about Christianity and promised to pray for them when they accept Baptism. Clearly, the burning zeal of grace accompanied his words and enlightened they are perceptive and triumphed over their will. They became Christians and obtained their long desired contentment that Publius had assured them as the reward of their conversion. Eventually, Philomena was born; they gave her the name of Luminous, an allusion to the light of Faith of which she had been, as it were, the fruit. The day of her Baptism her parents called her Filumena, or Daughter of Light, that means she was intuitive into the Faith. In addition, the love which her parents had for her was so great that they had her always with them. Philomena assured Jesus Christ that her virginity belongs to him. Meanwhile, her family had to go to Rome because her father had a problem with the Emperor concerning his province. Consequently, when Diocletian saw Philomena, he loved her and he wanted Philomena to be his wife. He seemed to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Living Planet Index ( Lpi ) Over the course of history, many scientist experts have raised the fright and panic about population numbers that only increase every year. According to the Living Planet Report, the Living Planet Index (LPI), which measures more than 10,000 representative populations of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish, has declined by 52 per cent since 1970. Population sizes of different species in the world has dropped by at least half. Some of these species are the living things that establishes the fabric of the ecosystems which sustain life on Earth. In the following two centuries, the population increased at an annual growth rate of 6 per 1,000, reaching 2.5 billion by 1950. In the following five decades, it has more than doubled, at a growth rate of 18 per 1,000 to reach more than 6 billion in 2000. The world population will reach 8 billion to 10 billion by the year 2030 (Robbins, 130). Today, we are using and taking so much from our ecosystems and natural processes, we are actually exposing and exploiting our own very existence on Earth. Nature preservation and sustainable ecological development complement each other. They are just as much about protecting the future of humanity our well being, economy, food security, and social stability. • 6. Examples Of Virtual Representation In The American Colonies After the French and Indian War the United Colonies and Britain began to clash. This was, for the most part, due to taxation without representation. Britain had began to tax the colonists heavily due to the debt of the war. On top of this King George III had just made the proclamation of 1763, preventing all colonists from settling west of the Appalachian Mountains. This upset the colonists because they had just fought risking their lives for that land and now they are told they cannot use it. Britain s point of view on taxation without representation was that the colonists were being represented through virtual representation. While the colonists point of view was that virtual representation was not a fair way to be represented and instead should be represented through actual representation. Britain believes that the best way for the colonies of america to be represented is through virtual representation. Virtual representation means that the representatives themselves are not necessarily from the region they are representing. Britain s thinking process on this, and argument of why virtual is better than actual representation, is because with virtual they are able to have an expert on that region as the representative instead of someone who may be from that region but is less qualified. An example of virtual representation was the Stamp Act where the colonists had no say or control over it being passed. The Stamp Act was a direct tax on paper products. Other examples of ... Another example of this is when Tough introduces Laude and Yeager, Tough uses them as transitional points in the text, but also he uses their work as potential solutions to the problem he is presenting. This style of transition would be fine if executed correctly. However, the way in which Tough organized these transitions pulls the reader back and forth between different subjects, at times losing the focus of the article, and making it easy for the reader to get lost within the text. Another problem readers may face is the style of Tough s writing, mainly due to his tendency to ramble, and his disposition for redundancy. [example] Tough did a great job at supporting his argument with the statistics he presented. However, often times the statistics but this unnecessary information took away the conciseness of the article, and causes his main points to have less of an impact then they could have. One potential area that could pose big problems for someone reading this is overall length of this article. Length is not generally an issue because readers tend to develop their own strategies when dealing with a long read, either by reading in chunks, or reading it all in one go, readers still have the capacity to finish what they are assigned. • 17. Essay on Walt Whitman Walt Whitman In parting with traditional poetic formalities, Walt Whitman alleviated a burden that impeded his ability to achieve full poetic expression. To Whitman, the strict boundaries that formal meter, structure, and rhyme imposed set limits on his stylistic freedom. This is not to say that these limits prevented Whitman from conveying his themes. Rather, they presented a contradiction to which Whitman refused to conform. In Whitman s eyes, to meet these formal guidelines one would also have to sacrifice the ability to express qualities and passion of living men. Thus, Whitman contested traditional poetic protocol because it added a layer of superficiality that concerned itself with creating perfect rhythmical, metrical, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This meant that stanzas consisted of a predetermined amount of lines or that the poem had a predetermined amount of stanzas. Augmenting this formal structure were predetermined rhyme schemes (such as abab cdcd efef gg in Shakespearean sonnets). Based on the above, we can describe traditional poetic etiquette as adhering to the suggested formal patterns predetermined by the tradition of British poetry. Just in reaching the above conclusion, a problem arises that all poets, not just Whitman, face when trying to conform to this style. This problem is that all of these rules are cumbersome. It is difficult for a poet to convey the theme of a poem when he or she is concerned with whether or not each word fits into a designated formal pattern. Yet, some would argue that this is what makes poetry such an elegant art form. Surely, Whitman recognized the genius found in Shakespeare s sonnets and other constitutive examples of traditional British poetry. However, whether or not Whitman recognized the genius of great traditional British poets, is inconsequential. What did matter was whether or not Whitman felt that this style was appropriate for him. The answer is no. Whitman found problems not simply with the fact that clinging to the traditional style might be burdensome (surely this would not have been an insurmountable task for Whitman), but his main issue with traditional style concerned the ornamental effect of formal regularity: In ... Some women had slight sparkles or accents to their attire and some men you could see the white of their suits but everything else was black which created an element of class and elegance. Synopsis: The purpose of the book is to focus on potential similarities found in epistemological hierarchies of Ibn al ʿArabī (d. 1240) and Ibn Taymiyya (d. 1328), and reflections of these similarities on their theologies. At the first part of the book, which comprises of two chapters, I examine revelation, the human intellect, and inspiration unveiling as epistemological means used by both Ibn al ʿArabī and Ibn Taymiyya. Both of them claim to have followed precisely the Quran and hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad when religious knowledge is in question. Unlike some philosophers and Kalam theologians, who may consider the human intellect valuable equally with the revelation, Ibn al ʿArabī and Ibn Taymiyya affirm the highest status of the Quran and hadiths indisputably. Having confirmed the most elevated status of the revelation, namely the Quran and hadiths, they differ prominently. One of the most disturbing and devastating trauma in society is the abuse and neglect of children. Many abused children suffer from emotional and behavioural difficulties, which often require psychotherapy (James Mennen, 2001). Abused children describe trauma pain as overwhelming feelings of anxiety, sadness, emptiness, loneliness, dirty and cheap. As such trauma pain is extremely unpleasant, and most abused and deprived children employ defense mechanisms to deny and repress the trauma. The four most common defense methods used by traumatized children ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 23. U.s. Subprime Mortgage Crisis Essay The U.S. subprime mortgage crisis was a set of events and conditions that led to the late 2000s financial crisis, characterized by a rise in subprime mortgage delinquencies and foreclosures, and the resulting decline of securities backed by said mortgages. After U.S. housing sales prices peaked in mid 2006 and began their steep decline, refinancing became more difficult. As adjustable rate mortgages began to reset at higher interest rates, mortgage delinquencies soared. Securities backed with mortgages, including subprime mortgages, widely held by financial firms, lost most of their value. Global investors also drastically reduced purchases of mortgage backed debt and other securities as part of a decline in the capacity and willingness of the private financial system to support lending. Concerns about the soundness of U.S. credit and financial markets led to tightening credit around the world and slowing economic growth in the U.S. and Europe. The immediate cause or trigger of the crisis was the bursting of the United States housing bubble which peaked in approximately 2005 2006. Caused by an increase in loan incentives such as easy initial terms and a long term trend of rising housing prices had encouraged borrowers to assume difficult mortgages in the belief they would be able to quickly refinance at more favorable terms. Once interest rates began to rise and housing prices started to drop moderately in 2006 in many parts of the U.S., refinancing became more difficult. As ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Mixture Of Unidentified Organic Compounds Lab Report A couple of mixtures of unidentified organic compounds (a mixture of two liquids and another mixture of two solid compounds) were obtained, and the compounds of each mixture were then separated, isolated, and purified. The compounds of the liquid liquid mixture were isolated by simple distillation, and the compounds in the mixture of solids were extracted by liquid liquid extraction, and later purified through recrystallization. Physical properties such as boiling points, melting points, and densities were used to identify each isolated compound. After analysis, the first liquid was identified by a boiling range of 81.0°C 81.3°C and a density of 0.7882g/mL, and the second liquid was identified by a boiling range of 91.7°C 91.9°C and a density of 0.8578 g/mL. The crude solid products were purified and recrystallized, providing a white crystalline solid (MP = 35.2 37.8 °C) in 46.9% yield, and a white powdery solid (MP = 121.9 122.1 °C) in 2.40% yield. I will also be showing some features of their culture, considering the iroquois are not well known in the western United States, and discussing the fall of the once great tribes. The main reason I ve chosen the Iroquois is because of my own prior knowledge of the Iroquois, and their relationship to lacrosse. I started playing lacrosse my freshman year of highschool. The very first thing I learned, before any stick skills or any basics of the game, was the history of it. Our coach insisted that we knew the history and the culture of the game, and that we respected it. I was intrigued by how interesting the game was. The game was made as a form of war. Lacrosse was sometimes even referred to as Little brother of war . It would be called this because injury, even death were common during a lacrosse game. When two tribes had a disagreement, but didn t feel the need to have a legitimate war, the opposing tribes would send their best warriors to the battlefield and play a lacrosse game. • 30. Death Penalty Impact On Society The death penalty is a legal process where the person who had committed an insane crime of murder is sentenced to death by the state, as a demonstration of punishment for what the accuser has committed. Since long before, people have been using this method not only to show the consequences of committing an insane crime, but also as a kind of notice to anyone who had the intentions of committing such crimes. With no doubt, the death penalty has been a part of combating human crime in society for many centuries, and is considered a necessary way to eradicate dangerous criminals. In other people s views, the subject of needing the death penalty became considered as an inhumane and unjust way to control and prevent criminal activity, its purpose and forms of use have been questioned for many years and the debate on whether it is necessary or not has been circling around. The death penalty needs to be kept in place as a way to prevent insane crimes, by taking an in depth look at how it affects society. A just society requires the death penalty for the taking of a life. When a criminal takes a life the justice a society has established is disturbed and the only way to accommodate for that disturbance is to restore the peace by taking the criminal s life. Therefore, this allows society to show that murder or any other act of the same sort is intolerable. The death penalty ensures criminals that commit murder and rape won t escape or be released again. Due to medical complications or inability to find a suitable mate, many must resort to other means, such as adoption or artificial insemination to reach this goal. However, even with these alternatives, many remain unable to become parents. Science may be able to change this through the use of In Vitro Gametogenesis. Russell whirls a reader into her stories with her capability to encase a reader in the story with her repetition of one s senses. Constantly brining in the senses of a reader brought in the smells of a surrounding from the protagonist or in this case the narrator. After every sense, emotion, and interaction was a pack experience, for Russell to cut this tie and create a story that is of an individual is a subtle experience at first; from a united thought process that slowly turn individual to self centered and selfish. This is apparent in Claudette s frame of mind towards her little sister Mirabella, from the pack worrying about Mirabella (230) to Claudette singular thoughts and emotions toward her littlest sister . This switch epitomizes the coming to age alone tone that Russell creates, initially the pack protected each other, thought as one, and were connected in every way till they adapted to the new environment, becoming singular units growing up isolated from each other snarl at one another for no reason (229) becoming accustomed to thinking individually as an independent person. Artists have been appropriating for many centuries and tend to use the most iconic of masterpieces from the past and make them more contemporary for today s style. The Mona Lisa by Leonardo Da Vinci is one of the greatest examples of this act. It is one of the most famous and well known paintings ever created; however the piece has been manipulated by other artists, so much that the meaning behind the original is indefinite. Ang Lee shows this in the use of lighting, angles, and sound effects in multiple scenes. • 42. Female Stereotypes In The Media Essay Female Stereotypes In The Media In the media the most common female stereotypes, are the housewife and the blonde bimbo. The Housewife. Chained to the kitchen sink, always cleaning and cooking. An old stereotype. In the advertisement for Shake `n Vac a woman is doing the vacuuming and dancing around shaking Shake `n Vac on the floor. This is a stereotype for the reason that a man is nowhere to be found. But in advertisements for intelligent matters like finance, it s always a man. At first, when I saw the advertisement for Mc Cain s chips, I thought the woman in it wasn t stereotypical, as she was not cooking the meal, the man was. But after a while I saw that this was just for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, I saw an advertisement in which a woman was showing some people round her house. She shows them the rooms and then she says, ôAnd here s my garage,ö and you see this room with white ceilings, white wallpaper, cupboards and lights and a car. This was meant to be humorous showing that this woman went to the extreme of even tiding up her garage. The Blonde Bimbo. Long or fluffy hair, revealing clothes. Sometimes dumb, not able to use machines, dependant on her man, not able to do anything, can t control her emotions over men. When I watched the TV to find some examples of stereotypes, the first thing I saw was a trailer for a documentary about David Bailey. Included were lots of female models. They were all skinny, they had really thick make up on and lots of them were blonde. The dialogue included ôThe photographer slept with 300 womenö and one of his models saying, ôYeah I ll get my tits out for him.ö The trailer was representing all of the models as sluts. Changing the channel to Challenge TV some more stereotypes of women appeared. The females on the show were the presenter of the game show, Donna Air, who had long curly blonde hair, and a shirt with half the buttons not done up showing off her bra, and a contestant who also had blonde hair, had big boobs, and was wearing a low cut top and was referred to by the other host as ôSexy ZoÙ!ö This ... • 43. Nature s Fury Controversy I visited the exhibit Nature s Fury: The Science of Natural Disasters, at the American Museum of Natural History and was amazed by the entire adventure. When I entered the section titled Nature s Furry I could feel my inner child stirring inside as I glanced over all the exhibits. The eight minute presentation of how the earth has been affected by all of these natural disasters felt a little unnerving. I loved how they divided the exhibit into four sections, which were Earthquakes, Volcanic eruptions, Tornados and Hurricanes. I skillfully created my own volcano and watched it erupt. Stood in the middle of a room so I could feel like the eye of a tornado and had a panoramic view. I happily stomped to be recorded by a seismic wave ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Regulatory Requirements Of The Pharmaceutical Industry Us,... In order for biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies to market their biologics and drugs, companies must receive approval from their respective regulatory authority. The three global leaders in the pharmaceutical industry US, EU, and Japan all have their own regulatory authorities. Each have their advantages and disadvantages and as a regulatory representative. Though there is a push to harmonize regulatory requirements at a global scale for the past 20 years development and approval of global guidelines has had drawbacks in approving drugs at a globally. The high regulatory uncertainty is considered as a major barrier for efficient development of safe and effective biological therapies, hence deterring entry for large multinational pharmaceutical companies to develop innovative biological products at a global level.1 For a biotechnology company it can be difficult to chose which market to seek the regulatory approval for first and many questions come to mind for which country will be beneficial for market approval. Personally as a regulatory affairs professional I would seek approval in the US due to the comprehensive history and development of the food and drug administration and the acceptance of the regulatory pathway at a global scale. Also the EU and US regulatory systems are more similar than different, and due to recent steps in harmonization from both regulatory regimes in scientific testing standards and clinical trials, it can make it more efficient to ... • 45. Determination Of The Presence Of Herpes Simplex Determination of the presence of Herpes simplex through Indirect ELISA Priscilla Mariel M. Cadiz Biology Department, De La Salle University, 2401 Taft Ave, Manila, Philippines *Email: cadizpriscillamariel@yahoo.com Sexually transmitted disease is currently one of the major health concerns in the world today. Herpes simplex virus is one cause of STDs. There are two types of HSV present namely HSV 1 which is often found in the mouth area and HSV 2 found at the genitals. Indirect ELISA was used in order to determine the presence of Herpes simplex among 3 different samples. Indirect ELISA involves two antibodies; the primary antibody which is bound to the antigen and secondary antibody bound to the primary antibody. Results produced by indirect ELISA produces better amplified signal. Results obtained showed that 1 of the 3 samples tested positive for HSV. Indirect ELISA however cannot determine what specific type of HSV is present in the sample. The cause of HSV 1 is the exchange of body fluids particularly obtained through kissing while sexual contact causes HSV 2. Though it rarely happens, there are possibilities that false positive or false negative results were obtained in Indirect ELISA. Interference may cause error. 1. • 46. The Nba Makes A Profit The NBA makes a profit in many ways, for example the NBA makes millions of dollars off of sponsorships, television contracts and selling merchandise. The National Basketball Association recently signed a new TV agreement with TNT and ESPN to approximately make $2.6 billion per season. Even with a total of 400 or so odd active players making an average of close to $5 million annually, national TV contracts generate enough revenue to cover salaries and then some. This graph depicts league revenue of the National Basketball Association from the 2001/02 season to the 2014/15 season (Statistica, 2016). As seen the chart above clearly indicates the NBA makes a profit and has been gradually increasing throughout the years, except for the season of 2011/12 but that s because the season was shorted due to the lockout that had taken place. The NBA has many different sponsors. Sponsorship spending On the NBA Totals $739 Million in 2014 2015 Season up 8.9 percent from the previous year, according to IEG research. The dancer moves to the consistent pulse of the drum, touching their foot to the ground with each drum beat. Shawl dancing and grass dancing require a fair amount of skill and practice, as they can be complex and very energetic dances in which one has to move quickly yet smoothly around the arena. The grass dance and fancy shawl dance have contrast in their origins. The shawl is obviously the most significant part of the dancer s regalia because as an extension of the arms, it assists in depicting the dancer s story . Long ribbons or fringes drop from the bottom of the shawl almost to the ground. Many shawls are also decorated with gorgeous embroidery or ribbon work to illustrate the dancer s ...
