Analysis of Web Browsers
For this paper, I tested out Firefox, Internet Explorer and on my mobile I tested Opera Mini. The first
site is a news site, CNN.com. This site renders well in Firefox, with a clean look and all of the
functionality intact. Internet Explorer renders the front page in a similar fashion, but there are popups
and ads that have been blocked on Firefox. I have customized Firefox significantly but have not
undergone the customization process with either Internet Explorer or Opera Mini. These lend clutter to
the appearance when using Explorer. Opera Mini s version of CNN.com has fewer graphics, and
reduced functionality. There are headlines that must be clicked through, but the layout of these is less
efficient than can be found on the full sized browsers. Pages load very quickly on Opera Mini.
The next site is ESPN.com. This took a long time to load in Firefox, compared with the other two
browsers. The look is clean in Firefox, however, and full functionality is intact. It is almost as if the
media companies are optimizing for this browser. Internet Explorer again loads more ads and popups.
The layout of the front page has more dead space, but the functionality remains intact. In Opera Mini,
the site has a dramatic reduction in visuals, and the site s layout is altered such that stories appear in a
linear list, without the formatting and compartmentalization of the full sized browsers.
With Amazon.com, Internet Explorer also suffers from excessive dead space, for example at

Elp Improve Own and Team Practice in Schools Essay
TDA 2.6 Help improve own and team practice in schools |
Describe why team work is important in schools
It is important to work as part of team as this can only gain better results, you can listen to other
people and their ideas and also share your own ideas and experiences. Working as a team can also
reduce your own work load through sharing good practice, sharing worksheets, saving time preparing
your own worksheets for your class. Everyone within your team will know what the target goal is and
work together to achieve it. Relationships between staff within your team will get stronger and you
will feel valued and this will help build your confidence and self esteem. When you work together
there is consistency therefore if a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Describe the importance of respecting the skills and expertise of other practitioners
You should show respect and value the knowledge of other members of staff, as you never know when
you will need their assistance. This can build a good working relationship as you show your respect
and interest in them. The same will be returned to you. A lot of the teachers at my school have been
there a long while so I value their advice and sharing experience, it is good practice.
Some staff at my school are not only class teachers but also specialise in other areas, speech and
language, special needs etc. It is not only their professional experience but some teachers have outside
interests, ie art, this is useful as you could ask for some creative activities or ideas to try with your
own groups to assist the children with learning. I also respect the

Personal Narrative-The Red Bus
The Red Bus
It all happened one regular afternoon on a Wednesday at Hertford County Early College. It was
around 4:40 p.m. and video game club had just dismissed from Ms. Smyth s room, everyone except
for Nick and Alston. They were still waiting for their rides.
While waiting, they noticed a mysterious red bus pull up about 30 yards from them. They had never
seen a red bus before but didn t pay it any mind. Alston decided he wanted something to drink. He told
Nick that he would be back and left for the vending machine. It took Alston about ten minutes to get
his drink and come back. When he got back Nick had left so he figured he had been picked up.
Alston received a text saying his dad wouldn t be there until six and it was already five so Alston
decided to walk around. He started to the red bus just to get a better peak at it. As he was walking, he
noticed a tree with a bush beside it. Inside the bush laid Nicks bags. The bags all had a ... Show more

Seeing that made realize what exactly happened to Nick. He picked the man s body up and took him
insie the bus. Alston ran as fast as he could when the alien wasn t looking. Alston made it to a nearby
phone when he heard the alien saying he needs directions. Alston watched in horror as a woman came
and was talking to him. Everything that happened to Nick and the nice man was about to fall upon her
until Alston took a flag poll he saw by the door and ran out with it towards the alien. The woman
turned to walk away and the alien was going to kill her when I jabbed him in the heart with the pole
and watched how green ooze came out and as the woman watched she knew he had saved her life. He
ran to the bus to check for more where I found dead bodies and Nick who was still alive but going into
shock. ALston rushed him to the hospital and to this day Alston is known as the hero of

Malcolm X Movie Analysis
The film Malcolm X was released in 1992. In the movie, Malcolm X is portrayed by Denzel
Washington. It is a biographical drama that depicts the life and legacy of African American civil rights
leader, Malcolm X. One theme that I found to be very evident throughout this film is evolution. To
evolve means to gradually go through a major change. This film effectively captures Malcolm X
evolving from a troubled teen with a rough childhood into one of the most influential and powerful
leaders of all time. Malcolm Little was born on May 19, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska. Both of his
parents were proclaimed pan africanist and followers of black nationalist leader Marcus Garvey. There
were also very active in the Universal Negro Improvement Association. When Malcolm was 6 years
old, his father was killed by members of a white supremacist group called the Black Legion, mainly
because of him involvement with UNIA and his commitment to pan africanism and the advancement
of colored people, which was highly frowned upon during that time. When he was 13 years old, his
mother was admitted into a mental health facility after suffering a nervous breakdown. Consequently,
Malcolm and his 10 siblings were separated and sent to various foster homes. In 1943, Malcolm
moved to Harlem, New York where he began to engage in several illegal activities such as drug
dealing, robbery, pimping, and gambling. In 1946, he was arrested and sent to jail for larceny and
breaking and entering. During his

Adult Gaudy
I just got done reading this passage that talks about a couple that wants to get divorced. During the
passage the couple get into an argument about being grown up. The woman named Luci says No
worries I believe we re both adults here and the man named Lon responds with Believe what you want
that right there shows that this couple does not like agreeing with each other and that Lon is sort of
childish because of his sarcastic response. So they talk and argue with each other for a couple more
lines then Lon comes out and says Just because you re eighteen, that doesn t mean you re an adult.
Neither does being fifty six. In fact, I think people pretend to appear responsible because that s what
we believe an adult is. Why does getting a gaudy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of the stuff that he said is true but when you are old enough to live alone you kind of have to
have responsibilities. As we get older we have to learn how to rely on ourselves and how to take
charge of our responsibilities. Lon said we just pretend to appear responsible because that s what we
believe an adult is. I think this statement is wrong because if an adult doesn t become responsible they
will suffer a lot in there lives. For example there comes a point in everybody s lives when our parents
don t and maybe can t take care of us any more, so we have to go and get jobs, buy a home, get a
career, and stuff like that. If an adult doesn t do this than what will come from their future they wouldn
t be able to do anything. Another reason why I don t agree with Lon s statement is because when he
said Just because you are eighteen, that doesn t mean you re an adult . I don t agree with this because
in the United States of America once you turn eighteen you are officially an adult. You can get a job,
you can own your own home, you can do so many other things. My dad told me once I turn eighteen I
am going to have to start working to pay for bills. I hope he was just joking but that s not the point
because once you turn eighteen you get a lot more responsibilities and that s the age your parents try
and let you care for

Sterilization Research Paper
Wash and Sterilization Process
Washing and sterilizing surgical instrument and materials are extremely important in the practice of
asepsis. Sterilizing all surgical instrument and materials prevents surgical sight infections. Over many
years, there were many different ways the sterilization process was preformed. Many microbiologists
and physicians took part in the discovery of and importance of the sterilization process. Today there
are many steps to sterilizing surgical equipment.
Before people knew what caused infection and many people died from surgical procedures. In ancient
times, demons and evil spirits were thought to be the cause of pestilence and infection. Methods
involving witchcraft and magic were used to drive them away. (Skellie, 2010) In 1450 BC ... Show

Today there are many precautions that are taken to insure that the equipment used in hospitals and
other heath care facilities are washed properly before being sterilized. Shortly after the surgical
procedure, the soiled and contaminated equipment is sorted and is taken to the decontamination room.
The decontamination team then should be properly downed in attire used to handle blood and other
contaminants. The instruments and other equipment are rinsed off and soaked in cool sterile water
with an enzymatic detergent. Using saline is not advised as this permanently damages the instruments.
Each instrument should be individually scrubbed to help eliminate debris. This starts off the washing
process. Many facilities invest in washers like the water decontaminator to minimize manual cleaning.
Another means of washing instruments is called the ultrasonic washer. This washer used sound waves
by, converting high frequency sound waves into mechanical vibrations (University of Rochester

Control characters are used when sending data to a printer, monitor, modem, or other device. XOFF
(usually referenced by CTRL+S) is used by the transmitting side at the end of the data pulsed to say
that the transmission batch is complete. XON (usually referenced by CTRL+Q) is used to start the
transmission, and is found at the beginning of the data pulse. (ComputerHope, 2004)
Simplex and duplex
A simplex data transmission is only sent one way and without control characters or error signals. An
example of a simplex transmission would be the alarm codes that are sent to officials at a burglar
alarm company.
A half duplex transmission can send a signal and then receive a signal, but cannot send and receive at
the same time. An example would be a CB radio that can send a message, and then listen for the
response.
A duplex data transmission is capable of sending and receiving data at the same time. A telephone line
is an example of a full duplex transmission system. (Eserver, 2004)
Serial and parallel transmission
Serial transmission is the consecutive transmission of the signal. The characters are transmitted in a
sequence over a single line, rather than simultaneously over two or more lines, as in parallel
transmission.
Parallel transmission are packets of data sent at the same time, usually over more than one
transmission line. This results in faster transmission of data. Many times, this data is sent sporadically,
and start and stop

of the most popular dogs in America due to the services that it provides for communities. According to
the American Kennel Club Dog registration statistics, the German Shepherd has ranked in second
among all other dog breeds since 2012. I believe the domestication and breeding of this dog played an
important in role in the development of mankind. German Shepherds have not only contributed to

Davis Bacon Act Pros And Cons
24 February 2016
SUBJECT: Davis Bacon Act
1. PURPOSE. This document provides historical information regarding the Davis Bacon Act and
present day implications of the Act. Davis Bacon, established in 1931, sets a wage requirement for all
construction contracts over $2,000 that are either partially or fully supported with government funds.
While the Act has been controversial for many years, efforts to repeal the Act completely or to
increase the dollar value threshold have failed. Some argue that the Act increases cost to Government
construction contracts and may reduce competition or eliminate it completely for small businesses
(CBO, 1983). Regardless, under FAR 22.404, we are responsible for ensuring that the requirements of
the Davis Bacon Act are enforced and incorporated into our solicitations and contracts.
2. DISCUSSION
The Davis Bacon Act was enacted in 1931 as a means to protect construction workers from being
underpaid by establishing a prevailing wage (or minimum wage) for publically funded construction
contracts. Construction contracting under the Act includes construction, alteration, or repair of public
buildings or works in excess of $2,000 to which the United States is a party or shares financing. The
prevailing wage, which includes fringe benefits, is determined by the Secretary of Labor ... Show

Additionally, it is clarified that contracts falling within the scope of the Act shall contain certain
provisions allowing the contracting officer to terminate, by written notice, the contractor s right to
proceed with the work should it be found that the wages being paid by the contractor are less than the
prevailing wage. Should termination be necessary, the contractor can be held liable for any excess
costs incurred by the Government to gain a new contract or otherwise have the work

Arnold Schoenberg s Drei Klavierstucke
Arnold Schoenberg s Drei Klavierstücke, Opus 11 (Three Piano Pieces) represent his first fully atonal
work, which would become the basis for moving forward in his later atonal and serial works.
Schoenberg believed that music history naturally pushed forward and that tonality could not contain
music forever. He believed atonality was the next step and Schoenberg admitted, The most decisive
steps forward occurred in the Two Songs, Op. 14, and in the Three Piano Pieces, Op. 11. However,
small traces of tonality and Romanticism remain, as the small thematic units of the work have shown
connections to that of Brahms and Liszt, especially in the opening of the first piece. Numerous
theorists have tried to place these three short pieces into various tonal centers for analysis, trying to
argue that it is not atonal. Attempts have been made to analyze the pieces in E major and minor, as
well as phyrygian mode, with no luck on forming an agreement to place this work into the world of
tonality. The first two pieces of Drei Klavierstücke were composed in February 1909 in Vienna, while
the third came later in August and a revision in 1924. Schoenberg published the work with the
Universal Edition in Vienna in 1910, revised in 1925. A typical performance lasts roughly 14 minutes.
The world premiere of the work was given by Etta Werndorff in Vienna s Ehrbar Saal on January 14th,
1910. Schoenberg wrote these pieces in his new outburst of expressionist music in 1909, along

anything. He promises that he will make her many things. And I will make thee beds of roses, and A

How Is Jerry Alike
I think Jerry, the main character, needs friends but is adventurous because he wants respect, he is
lonely, and above all he is awkward. In this realistic fiction book by Doris Lessing, the main character
Jerry, goes to a beach and he meets some boys that go through an underwater tunnel, and he wants to
go too. In the book, it says that Jerry s mom is a widow so he has no dad. This could make him want
friends even more than other people because he doesn t have a dad to play catch with or something. I
think that s why that Jerry wants to make friends with the big boys, who were the other kids on the
beach. The first piece of evidence is To be with them, of them, was a craving that filled his whole
body. This supports my claim that Jerry is lonely because this piece of evidence means that Jerry
doesn t just need friends, he also wants friends. This is important because in order to have friends, you
need to want friends (although exceptions exist (me)). Another piece of evidence shows that Jerry is
awkward on page 5, where it says and now, in a panic of failure, he yelled up, in English, Look at me!
Look! and he began splashing and kicking in the water like a foolish dog. This shows he is awkward
because no normal kid what splash and kick in the water and scream Look at me! Look! Unless they

them what he was capable of (also maybe to show that he wasn t that awkward and weird). I would

Life In The 21st Century
The world is changing, and changing fast. Technology, education, health, eating habits, dress there is
hardly anything in life that is not changing, some changes we like, while others create fear and
anxiety. Several predictions were made that the world will end in 2012 based on the rollover of the
Mayan calendar but all these forecasting were proved to be fictitious. On the contrary we are living in
the 21st century, 2025 and the world has changed tremendously in the last 13 years. The world has
been transformed by the digital revolution and advances in medicine and human knowledge. The
present day civilization stands on two legs, one is spirituality, and the other is science.
Today, I woke up and have a coffee. My eyes got baffled to the digital newspaper headlines and it was
written that Colonization on Mars has begun . Then suddenly I remembered my old days when
newspapers were printed on papers. Technology has changed every aspect of life. Now people are
going to live on Mars and the problem of over population has been solved. Then I got ready and
proceed towards my office. Earlier we have to catch an auto or bus to reach our destination and now
the transportation has become so simple that we can travel from one place to another with ease. Being
as an engineer in Metro Services I feel proud to work there because it has solved the transportation
problem. While sitting in the metro I saw the streets which were so clean that not even a single paper

Task Switching Essay
Running Head: Time Cost, Task Switching, Repeating Tasks
Task Switching Cost s Time
Brooklyn College City University of New York
Abstract
A replication of Task Switching Monsell 2003 experiment was done, which predicts a time cost when
switching tasks. 18 participants had to complete 100 randomized trials, switching between task repeat
and task switching trials. Reaction Times (RT) were recorded and reflected by experimenters, to
determine that there is a time cost involved when switching tasks as opposed to repeating the same
task.

When switching between tasks our brain goes between two different programs one for example for
counting and one for reading, therefore costing us time to switch between these two tasks. In this
experiment we tried to replicate the Monsell 2003 Task Switching experiment. 18 Participants took a
brief task switching test via program Revolution Maker . Each trial was randomly assigned. The
participants were presented with numbers one through nine and on each trial had to react to the
number, to identify either its odd or even or if the magnitude was either less than 5 or more than 5. We
hypothesis that when individuals are engaged in a cognitive task there is a time cost that occurs when
asked to switch between tasks as opposed to repeating tasks.

thinkers called Philosophes to think about government and how it should work. Thomas Hobbes was
one of the philosophes that believed people were evil. Thomas Hobbes lived through the english civil
war and that shaped many of his opinions on humanity. He also tried to answer the question Why do
we have government. Hobbes believed people were selfish and evil and he also believed that before

accomplish anything if there were always competing against each other and wasting there time.
Hobbes did not like the idea of living in a state of nature and he saw it as an opportunity for people to

A small business server handles under 50 users and an enterprise server 50 or more. Novell Netware,

Benefits Of Leisure And Leisure
Results
Benefits of Leisure Although recreation and leisure has been proven to be beneficial to the physical
and mental health of youth, sports participation has declined from 77% in 1992 to 59% in 2005 (Holt,
Kingsley, Tink, Scherer, 2010). In 2005 Spinney and Millward (2010) did a study determining that
despite the benefits of leisure those living in financial poverty are not participated in active programs
as they are costly, despite having the desire to. Physical inactivity can have serious physical
consequences, it can lead to obesity, heart disease, diabetes, different types of cancer, and osteoporosis
(Weiss, Platt, Paradis, 2007). When families and individuals who are LI do not have equal access to
recreation and leisure programs, it makes sense then that their risk for these consequences can
increase. Aside from unequal access to leisure it has also been determined that people who are LI
often do not use resources that may be provided to them, either due to not knowing they exist, or
issues with transportation, view of poor health, or lack of motivation (Weiss et al, 2007). Aside from
physically active leisure, there are also benefits to more passive leisure as it allows individuals to
detach from their other responsibilities, such as work (Sonnentag, 2012). The benefits are often
psychological and can help reduce stress and increase wellbeing and social skills (Sonnentag, 2012).
Ruskin et al (2003) understands that affordable leisure benefits all aspects

Merida, A Modern Personification Of The Great Mother...
Mythological stories are still being used in modern era by society to understand the world and life. Its
use is noticeable on media directed towards adolescent or the younger audience. Disney is known for
basing their movies on mythological stories, but there has been a shift to how they use these stories.
Disney Princesses such as Snow white, Aurora, Belle, were a reflection to goddesses like Aphrodite, a
goddess of love, beauty and desire. Modern Princesses such as Merida, Elsa, Moana, tie to Artemis,
goddess of wilderness, virginity, and protector. Most modern princesses, specially Merida, depict the
mythological archetype, the Great Mother. David A. Leeming, author of The World of Myth, describes
the Great Mother as earth, body of nourishment, and symbol of death and rebirth. The Great Mother
represents nature and motherhood, and is an agent of rebirth or transformation. In the movie Brave,
Princess Merida is on the quest to mend her mistake of changing her mother into a bear because she
wanted to change her fate. Merida is a modern personification of the Great Mother archetype by
having a strong connection with nature, behaving as the mother of her kingdom, and going through

Natural Gas Dehydration Based On Agricultural By Products
This research project emphasizes on natural gas dehydration based on agricultural by products known
as biosorbents in a pressure swing adsorption (PSA) process, which is a widespread industrial
separation system. The commercial widely used adsorbents such as zeolites, silica gel, and molecular
sieves are costly due to high regeneration temperature and operational difficulties regarding
maintaining a cyclic process. Moreover, even though these adsorbents are being used in industries,
still a considerable amount of other species are being adsorbed along with the preferentially species,
which lead to lower selectivity. Hence, there has been a constant demand for cost effective adsorbent
with high selectivity and equilibrium capacity.

The Themes Of Poverty In Frank Mccourt s Angelas Ashes
Did you know that in the US alone, according to the Census Bureau that 14.5% of people live in
poverty today? Poverty is where you re at a point of being extremely poor. It makes life difficult for
these people living in poverty to get food, water and a healthy environment to live in. It ties together
with these excerpts because the main character and their family are going through poverty. In these
excerpts it involves the following; Frank McCourts The Street , and Ann Petrys Angelas Ashes it
shows in each excerpt how the main character is going through poverty with their families, but yet still
showing perseverance by not letting anything back them down from helping their family. In Frank
McCourts work Angelas Ashes , he creates the theme that you ll show perseverance when in poverty
where you ll do things you d expect not to do if not in that situation. First in the excerpt Frank steals
lemonade from the store. Showing perseverance by not giving up, although he could be caught for
stealing. I have 2 bottles of Lemonade under my jersey. (McCourt 5). At the store, the main character
frank is stealing food and lemonade for his family. It shows perseverance because he s not giving up
and doesn t mind if he gets caught stealing. He wants to help his family that s in poverty and the
author makes it correlate readers that may be in this position of poverty where they feel hopeless and
do the same by stealing from a store since they want to help their families.

The Effect Of Detector Voltages
Finally, the detector voltages were optimized to obtain the best sensitivity for target compounds. Here,
the S/N value was used to measure the effect of detector voltage on the sensitivity, because both the
peak signal and noise signal increase with detector voltage. The effect of detector voltages (1.65, 1.70,
and 1.75 kV) on several representative compounds is shown in Figure 5. With increasing voltage, the
trends of S/N values for different compounds are different, but that of each class is basically the same.
Overall, the sensitivity of nearly all the compounds decreases with increasing voltages, and with the
fact that higher voltage accelerates the aging of the detector, 1.70 kV was chosen in this study.

The group classification of components was then performed by the facilities of ChromaTOF software
to draw borderlines in the contour plot, better assisting overview and comparison of different samples.
The analytes in Sample #1 were roughly classified into six different groups (Figure 6): 1. PAHs, 2.
PAEs, 3. Phenolic compounds, 4. Hydrocarbons, 5. Benzene derivatives, 6. Aliphatic acids. The
outsiders are some compounds such as nitrogen containing compounds, which do not belong to the
specified groups. It is worth noting that in several cases, some compounds belonging to different
groups elute in the neighboring retention times, and thus the borderlines are not exactly correct,
especially when hundreds of components are present in the chromatogram. The peak density of each
of the assigned areas allows for a primary evaluation of the composition of each soil sample. It
appears that Sample #1 has a diverse composition with higher concentration of hydrocarbons,
aliphatic acids, PAHs and PAEs, whereas Sample #2 almost exclusively contains benzene derivatives,
phenolic compounds, and PAHs. This example confirms that the group classification is helpful to
recognize the compound classes present in the sample in greater proportion and concentration.
Based on the overview of the sample s constituents, another filter condition was added to pick out the
most abundant compounds in the soil samples. According to the

first part of the paper reviews factors that led to the failure and consequently the bankruptcy event.

THE BANKRUPTCY OF LEHMAN BROTHERS Causes of the Failure There is no single cause
that led to the failure of Lehman Brothers. There were numerous causes and agents that led to the
disaster, including greedy Wall Street traders, the debt load of American households, the Fed s action,
rating agencies, and last but not least, the

deregulation (Morin and Maux, 2011). These factors were responsible for the crisis of credit and not
solely the failure of Lehman Brothers. Still, the market of Credit Default Swaps was one of the biggest
factors dedicating to the catastrophe, if not the biggest one as Lehman was heavily involved in that
market. In explaining the sub prime market, Morin and Maux (2011) explain that sub prime loans refer
to inferior quality (sub) real estate loans whose higher risk of payment default is countered by the
bank with a higher interest rate. These mortgage loans, granted at variable
rates, were extended to American households with modest incomes (p. 41). Morin and Maux (2011)
also discuss Lehman s involvement in that particular market as well as how Lehman caused erosion in
that market at the same time: The bank is accused of having sold Collateralized Debt Obligations
(CDOs) to its clients and taking short positions that effectively eroded the value of these

Digital Technology Effects
Digital Technology and The Effects on Human Health Nicholas Reott Kaplan University CM 107:
College Composition I Professor Lee August 15, 2017 Digital Technology and the Effects on Human
Health In this growing and advanced society, modern technology can ultimately play a significant role
in advancing our chosen professions. Presently, the world has been made much more accessible by
modern technology. It is now possible to stay in constant contact with everyone around and work in
areas that were unimaginable just a few short years ago. However, the constant use of this technology
comes at a cost. Increased use of digital technology and current exposure to electronic fields coming
from wi fi and other digital devices such as laptops, cellphones, and iPads can negatively affect
humans mental and emotional health as well as social interaction skills; many of the increased health
problems suffered these days are also the result of an inappropriate use of medical technology. In
recent years, it seems like digital technology has slowly changed people mentally, while on one side it
feeds them with knowledge, and on the other side it negatively affects people s mental and emotional
health. For instance, some people have become over reliant on their technological devices, to the point
that it would take control of their lives, creating stressful situations and affecting their emotional
health. On an emotional level, most of the younger generations want instant

2016 Presidential Election Analysis
The 2016 election was one of the most interesting, and strange presidential elections in history. For the
democrats they had leading nominee Hillary Clinton who was a former Secretary of State, and on the
republican side they had a very wealthy real estate nominee named Donald Trump. The voting
behavior throughout this election stayed similar to years past, and accordingly fifty eight percent of
eligible voters hit the polls. With that being said there were similar demographic groups voting for the
same political parties. The demographic groups which played a significant role was the White
Evangelical Christian which partake in the religion spectrum. Next is the wealthier families that

The African American group has leaned towards the democratic vote since John F Kennedy and
Lyndon B Johnson, this extreme change of voting occurred during the Civil Rights movement when
both of these men were outlawing public discrimination, and garnering 94% of the black vote
(University of California, 1). This demographic group is rapidly growing due to the fact that it is an
ethnicity, and that they have always voted democrat for the beliefs and role the democrats have played
in order to better the specific race. The 2016 election proved once again to be a great success for the
democrats when it came time for the African American support, this is shown through the astounding
eighty eight percent vote for Hillary Clinton. The African American vote is a very crucial poll that the
democrats rely on, due to the decrease in percentage from the 2012 election (Obama) at ninety three
percent to Hillary s poll numbers at eighty eight percent from the same demographic group. The factor
of the Civil Rights movements that shaped the world we live in today is a huge factor on why the
African American ethnicity will always lean towards the democratic view. Without that major factor
all of the electoral votes would be very different, and would look as if they would always lean more
towards a liberal or republican view. The final demographic group in the list is the income groups,

Analyse the effects of domestic and global free trade and protection policies on the Australian
economy
Free trade is the unrestricted purchase and sale of goods and services between countries without the
imposition of protection such as tariffs and quotas. This enables economies to focus on their core
competitive advantage(s), thereby maximizing economic output and fostering income growth for their
citizens. Australian exports rose from $66.6 billion in 1990 91 to $300.4 billion in 2012 13, with an
average growth in export volumes of 4.6 per cent per annum since 1990 91. This is reflective of

Unfortunately, there has been poor progress in reducing agricultural protection in recent years. In fact,
if global trade liberalisation was achieved by the WTO s Doha Round, it could have boosted Australia

and trade blocs adversely affect the Australian economy.
Since Australia s first free trade agreement (FTA) with New Zealand in 1983, Bilateral and
Multilateral FTA s have been a great advantage and focus in securing economic prosperity for
Australia. Australia s two way trade in goods and services was A$616 bn in 2012. Australia has seven
FTAs currently in force with New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, US, Chile, ASEAN (with New
Zealand) and Malaysia. Together, these countries account for 28% of Australia s total trade, which
displays the great benefit of bilateral FTAs to the Australian economy. Additionally, there are four
bilateral FTA negotiations currently in place, two of which are substantial trading partners; China,
being Australia s largest export market (A$78.7 bn) and Japan, being Australia s second largest export
market (A$49.8 bn). The Japanese Free Trade Agreement has been negotiated, and will be a great

Essay about The Facts of Evolution
The Facts of Evolution
A fact is something that exists beyond question. It is an actuality, an objective reality. It is established
by solid evidence. A theory is something unproved but at times assumed true for the sake of argument.
It has yet to be proved as factual. Nonetheless, sometimes something is declared to be a fact that is
only a theory.
In a September 30, 1986 article of the New York Times there was an published article by a New York
University professor, Irving Kristol. His contention is that if evolution were taught in the public
schools as the theory it is rather than as the fact it isn t, there would not be the controversy that now
rages between evolution and creationism. Kristol stated: There is also little doubt ... Show more

How did life begin? This question has stirred more speculation and ignited more debate. Yet the
controversy is not simply over evolution versus creation. Much of the conflict takes place among the
evolutionists themselves. Virtually every detail of evolution, how it happened, where it started, who or
what started it, and how long the process took is disputed.
Time magazine suggests Life did not arise under calm, benign conditions, as once assumed, but under
the hellish skies of a planet racked by volcanic eruptions and menaced by comets and asteroids. For
years evolutionists claimed that life began in a warm pool of organic soup. Some now believe that
foam in the ocean could have bred life. Undersea geysers are another proposed site of life s origin.
Some suggest that living organisms arrived on earthbound meteors or perhaps asteroids smashed into
earth and changed the atmosphere, stirring up life in the process. . Plow a big iron asteroid into earth,
and you will certainly get interesting things happening. To think also that an extraordinary being like
man emerged out of chemicals dissolved in a pool of warm water that was struck by lightening is the
real myth.
The basic unit of living things is the cell, and the basic material that makes up a cell is protein.
Evolutionists acknowledge that the probability of the right atoms and molecules falling into place to

Technology And Civil Practices Of The Middle Eastern...
War is defined by the Webster dictionary as a state of usually open and declared armed hostile conflict
between states or nations , this definition does not apply to the current war in Afghanistan. This war
has been one of the most controversial wars in United States history, with one of the biggest issues
being how Afghanistan is being effected since it is not a part of the war as much as a platform where it
is taking place. For all the confusion, destruction, and loss during a war there is a bright side in the
unification and advancement of both technology and civil practices. This war has been no different in
the fact that technology has advanced exponentially, and the world has begun to truly understand the
customs and practices of the Middle Eastern States. The improvement of technology has allowed the
building of better agricultural equipment, which has in turn given rise to better agricultural practices.
Another thing that has changed both with a change in personnel and a change in policies is the
government of Afghanistan. The main driving force for the change being seen is by the young people
of Afghanistan who want the culture to evolve in a more global manor. When all of these changes are
looked at as a whole instead of individually there is a clear trends that shows the growing economy of
Afghanistan increasing at the highest rate in 100 years. This paper will explore all of the issues and

Comparing Huxley s Brave New World
Pieper describes work and leisure from a unique perspective. He believes that work is a necessary part
of life, but one that should not consume our every waking moment. Piper challenges our modern
definition of work to show us that time away can be beneficial. The leisure that he references is not a
period of just not doing anything. He argues that our time not consumed by our work should be
devoted to philosophy and theology that enriches our lives. What the modern world uses as leisure,
which is not thinking at all, is what Pieper would call being sloth. The time away from work is meant
for personal and spiritual growth. Idleness robs our time as much as work, but leisure allows us to

Pollution Of Water Pollution
Thousands of plastic water bottles are being tossed inconsiderably into the bayous, rivers, and large
bodies of water every year. Because of this action, it raises many concerning issues that appeal to a
variety of people. The artist has strong view points and opinions towards the topic of pollution. The
artist created an image of a photo shopped iceberg made of plastic water bottles compared to a real
natural iceberg in a body of water. The visual image is depicted in great detail in accordance to the
contents of the subject as well as the point of view of the artist. The artist uses rhetorical appeals to
bring awareness to the warnings, threats, and stifling of pollution, and what pollution means to them.
The visual image of trash over polluting the ocean suggests that without proper care and consideration
of our ecosystem, pollution can potentially become life threatening. The real iceberg is composed of
actual frozen water while the fake iceberg is composed of crushed water bottles. The over pollution of
the area adjacent to the iceberg represents that man made products are causing the pollution while the
iceberg signifies the pure nature of the earth. The unrealistic trash iceberg is not proportional in means
of size compared to the adjacent natural iceberg. The trash is instead portrayed larger than the iceberg;
this metaphor suggests that the more the community pollutes, the faster the deterioration of the
ecosystem will proceed. The polluted iceberg grows in size

NMHC, NOx and PM emissions by one to two orders of magnitude. There are almost zero PM
emissions for natural gas fueled FC cars. Also, there is upto 60% reduction in CO2 emissions, which
reduces the overall global warming co efficient significantly. One more interesting conclusion is that
most of the emissions in FC cars occur in natural gas extraction or methanol production stage and not
during the end usage of the vehicles. Therefore, fuel cell cars can potentially provide higher
environmental benefits if the fuel supply infrastructure is improved.

Genetic Determinants Of Hiv Infection
Genetic determinants of HIV infection:
HIV has two major types: HIV 1 and HIV 2. HIV 1 has four groups M, N, O and P. These groups are
further classified into subtypes. Group M is a major infecting group worldwide contributing to 90% of
HIV 1 infections. Group M is classified into nine subtypes (A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, J and K). Subtype
B is predominantly found in America and Western Europe. The susceptibility to HIV 1 infection,
transmission of disease, and response to retroviral therapy depend on the genetic determinants of the
host cell. These genetic determinants vary in populations and among patients. These genetic variants
regulate chemokine co receptors and ligands that involve in the entry of the virus, major
histocompatibility complex, killer cells Ig like receptor and cytokines, and TRIM5α motif and
apolipoprotein B mRNA editing enzyme, catalytic polypeptide like 3G (Kaur and Mehra, 2009). In

Advertising Cigarettes and Chewing Tobacco Essay examples
Advertising Cigarettes and Chewing Tobacco
Tobacco, tumor causing teeth staining smelly puking habit. Advertising has become a way of life. The
average American is exposed to 3,000 advertisements a day. These advertisements come from the
television, radio, news papers, billboard signs, and countless other ways. The advertisers use different
ways of attracting a consumer to buy their product. One of the strategies that the author will use is
called appeals, which uses ethos (ethics), pathos (feelings), and logos (logic). Some people believe it
is and will continue to destroy life and moral values in our nation. The rhetorical triangle is used very
well in advertising; in some cases it is hard to catch the imbedded message. The ... Show more content

The kids do not see before and after pictures of people who have smoked for years in the magazines or
commercials. The youth also think they will not get addicted. I also believe that by the time most
people are the age twenty they have decided whether or not they are going to smoke or not. Kids see
attractive people in movies and commercials smoking, or cartoon animals smoking and they think it is
cool. If a product, like cigarettes, will make kids feel like they fit in, then they will do it even if the
product will hurt them. This kind of audience, the youth, is very vulnerable because they will do
anything to get accepted by people.
The author for the audience of chewing tobacco is targeting young blue collar men ages eighteen to
around thirty. The ads are targeting the young men who work outside or like doing out door activities.
In this Copenhagen ad the quote next to the rider says I never walk when I can ride. And I never ride
without my cope. The ad has a younger man on a horse taking a dip and two other riders trying to
catch up to him on the open range. In this Grizzly chew ad the slogan is Pinch Yourself . The ad
contains two guys out in the woods having a day dream with two really big deer in their bubble . In
The Skoal ad they have the slogan A Pinch better with a picture of a man who has a big Elk in his
sights and a beautiful woman at his side. This tells people who

Chemistry Lab On And Electric Vehicle
I ve learned so much from working and competing in Science Olympiad. There were four
competitions that were scheduled for me to compete in: Forensics, Chemistry Lab, Game On and
Electric Vehicle. There was a lot of preparation and commitment that had to be put in. A slight mishap
happened in Forensics we found out that only two teams could compete, so my team had to drop out ,
Chemistry Lab was mainly basic kinetics and gas laws during Game On we had to learn Scratch and
then use that knowledge to create a game, The last event was Keltic Vehicle, in this event we had to
pre design a vehicle. It would be scored by how accurate it was. I am glad I was able to pick the
events to see if would really enjoy that class or occupation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It helped working together because we could share ideas to each other. The Scratch program was
simple and easy to master. We did really well at studying and mastering the program.
There were some issues with designing the background and characters. The limited time made it hard
to make a complicated and interesting game. The game wasn t as accurate as we had hoped but it was
one of my favorites. We also actually knew what we were doing. With the knowledge in Scratch I
know that I ll do better next year. Doing gome on made me realise how much I enjoyed programming,
and I know that skill will come in handy later in life.
For Electric Vehicle I learned that time is very important with designing and programming but
working on the vehicle was different we remodeled it about three times to make it work correctly and
stop swerving to the left. The rules were simple: make the vehicle come to a complete stop when it
hits the set distance. Our way of building the vehicle was to base it on a click system; in the system we
had buttons that had a certain amount of time it would make the motors go for. The rules stated that
the vehicle had to be between nine to twelve meters , (in distance of which it could travel), but at the
competition it was eleven meters. When preparing for the distance runs we had to figure out how
many clicks it took to go one meter. Unfortunately, it was a little more complex; it accelerated so it
didn t go at a linear rate,

Essay on Valkyrie – A Film Review
A fanatically hysteric romantic with a brutal will, this is how Karl Alexander von Muller, described
the personality of Adolf Hitler. Throughout Hitler s reign, people close to him had the same outlook
towards him, like von Muller, and many officers and generals plotted to kill the dictator. The plot that
came closest to succeeding was Project Valkyrie, which was the subject of the 2010 film Valkyrie .
The film incorporated many aspects that are historically accurate, despite a number of minor historical
flaws. However, there are some instances where poor concepts are shown in the film as well. The
historical accuracy of the film can be demonstrated by showing its plot, setting and characters. A
significant strength Valkyrie has in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both in the movie and in history, the conspirators planned to use this document after killing Hitler to
manipulate the Reserve Army into removing the power of the SS, Gestapo, and SD on the basis that
these three groups were attempting to seize power. (http://www.valkyrie plot.com/1942.html) In
addition, the elements that ultimately lead to an unsuccessful assassination attempt of Hitler are
mostly all followed exceptionally. For example, the director expertly conveyed the hesitation and lack
of cohesion between people involved in the plan to kill Hitler. The hesitation of General Olbricht and
change of heart by General Fromm severely crippled Project Valkyrie. On one hand, Olbricht was very
stubborn and reluctant to put the plan into effect because he did not have absolute confirmation that
Hitler was killed by the blast at the Wolf s Lair. On the other hand, Fromm vehemently rejects their
plan when it is put into effect and forced Colonel Claus Von Stauffenberg to arrest him in order to
advance in Project Valkyrie. These two events resulted in a major setback both in the film and during
the past event in history. However, he did have minor plot omissions about how the plan to kill Hitler
went wrong as well. Mainly the events that resulted in Hitler switching meeting places slightly
diverted from the path of history. In history, the meeting place was switched to a more open
conference

My Strengths Weaknesses
My Strength and Weakness
Everyone is different in many ways. There are differences in gender, nationality, religious activities
and there are differences in strengths and weaknesses. Those strengths and weaknesses are looked at
in Corporate America and they assist the higher management in making decisions for the roles we play
on each team. I will be discussing my strengths and weaknesses.
Over the years, I have learned how to react and respond in different ways and it all depends on what is
happening in my surroundings. I owe a lot of this to my 11 years of military service. The military
trains you in a way that once you are done with their training; you will walk, talk and act as a soldier
is supposed to act. There are times when the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Procrastination and being laid back are two of my biggest weaknesses. The behavior has minimized
since assuming the leadership role with Bank of America. I always would take on tasks and do them at
months end then I would find myself working 18 hour days to complete what could have been started
at the beginning of the month. One of the good things that my leadership has in place is a daily pulse
check. This enables us to see where we stand as a leadership team and to ensure that no task goes
undone. At the beginning, I continually pushed back on completing my tasks and there was always a
rush at months end to complete all assigned tasks. After leaving the Army 10 years ago, I also
procrastinated on my higher education until recently. I kept on stating that there was little or no time to
complete my higher education. After several job declines due to not having a degree; I decided to take
the step and finish my degree.
Being too open or showing feelings at the work place is another weakness that I do carry. With my
military background I have been lead to believe that your squad is like family and things are to be
discussed just in case we ever did go to war I would know what would motivate the soldier in a time
of crisis. I have bought this thought with me into Corporate America and it has come to hurt me as
bringing in your personal life into the workplace. When I was going through the crisis with my
mother; I worked in the Spanish Department and my manager

Caroline Domestic Violence
The number of American troops killed in Afghanistan and Iraq between 2001 and 2012 was 6,488.
The number of American women who were murdered by current or ex male partners during that time
was 11,766. That s nearly double the amount of casualties lost during war (Vagianos). Domestic
violence is an important research topic to raise awareness and conciseness because it tears thousands
of family s apart every year. The effects of domestic violence range from economic to psychological
consequences. Domestic violence occurs in a wide range of situation affecting women, men, children,
the elderly, gays, and lesbians. This essay will focus on South Caroline women s domestic violence.

Once the 1980 s came, a lot of different changes took place. If the police were called for help with
domestic violence, they no longer ignored it. They would arrest and convict those who were guilty of
domestic violence. If we look in today s society although, some changes has been made on this topic;
there are still a lot of work to do to prevent domestic violence and to raise awareness of this
inconceivable social problem as we can see in the statistics of the state of South Caroline that makes
this state No 1 for deadly violence against woman as was announced by the Washington Times in
September 15, 2015.
The causes of domestic violence start with a controlling personality to control another person. It can
start off with verbal slander and turn into physical violence over time. One major cause of domestic
violence is stress. Things such as being unemployed, taking drugs, drinking alcohol, or having little
money can cause a person a lot of stress, which can result in abuse. Also, in some cases, it can be due
to the person being abused themselves in their childhood. Statistics show that many people who are
abused in their childhood become abusers

Essay about Hcr 230 Week 3 Assignment the Welfare Reform Act
The Welfare Reform Act HCR/230 Claims Prep II Jeana Timmcke University of Phoenix Axia College
The Welfare Reform Act Welfare has been a controversial issue since the 1960s, and continues to be a
controversial issue. During the late 1980s, citizens were calling for reform of the Welfare System. Due
to citizen concern the Personal Responsibility, Welfare and Opportunity Reconciliation Act
(PRWORA) came into effect. On August 22, 1996, Congress passed and President Bill Clinton signed
the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation of 1996. The Welfare Reform Act
drastically changed the nation s welfare system. The Welfare Reform Act was ... Show more content

This legislation had four major goals: to assist a major target group needy families to care for children,
to promote job preparation and work (that is to reduce dependency), to reduce out of wedlock
childbearing, and promote mother father families. (Havemen amp; Scholz, 2001.)
The Welfare Reform Act was meant to get people off of Welfare and put them to work. There became
stipulations for people who receive benefits; they must work a mandatory of 20 hours after two years
of assistance. Welfare Reform provided more funding for child care in the effort to get mothers back
to work. Families, who have exceeded the five year limit or less depending on state laws, will no
longer receive cash assistance. States are given block grants in order to provide welfare benefits to the
recipients. Welfare Reform also causes states to maintain their spending on Welfare. States can receive
bonuses from the Federal Government for the performance of moving Welfare recipients to work and
getting them off the system. (PRWORA, n.d.)
The main goal of Welfare Reform is to reduce dependency. Since Welfare Reform, TANF caseloads
have dropped by nearly 50 percent. Some tend to argue that this decline was in part due to a stronger
economy, but in the past 50 years no previous economic growth ever results in the decline of the case
load. The decrease in caseload is not

Human Beings Use Self Serving Bias
This paper will discuss how we as human beings use self serving bias within our daily lives, and
explain why we tend to identify, or focus on our successes, and refuse to acknowledge or own up to
our failures. The question here is why do we as individuals tend to avoid, blame, or ignore the
inadequacies within our lives. Many researchers believed that our emotions played a role in self
serving bias , and many studies were conducted to determine how emotions, judgement, and
attributions , can strongly influence us into self serving bias. Attribution bias is a part of self serving
bias, and leads people to make more stable, internal, and global attributions when it comes to the
positive things in their lives, rather than the negative things he or she may encounter throughout his or
her life. So we will examine, analyze, validate, and link the two research studies chosen on this
concept, and provide examples of how we as individuals use self serving, and attribution bias daily,
and that both intertwine with one another. After reading this paper we will be aware of how often we
tend to use this concept without even realizing we do it, and hopefully gain insight on how to improve
ourselves when it comes handling failure. Self Serving Bias and Its Role In Our Emotions, Judgement,
and Attribution As adults living within society we seek the acceptance of others. We tend to act a
certain way to portray an image that gains the approval of others . No one wants to admit to their

  • 2. Analysis of Web Browsers For this paper, I tested out Firefox, Internet Explorer and on my mobile I tested Opera Mini. The first site is a news site, CNN.com. This site renders well in Firefox, with a clean look and all of the functionality intact. Internet Explorer renders the front page in a similar fashion, but there are popups and ads that have been blocked on Firefox. I have customized Firefox significantly but have not undergone the customization process with either Internet Explorer or Opera Mini. These lend clutter to the appearance when using Explorer. Opera Mini s version of CNN.com has fewer graphics, and reduced functionality. There are headlines that must be clicked through, but the layout of these is less efficient than can be found on the full sized browsers. Pages load very quickly on Opera Mini. The next site is ESPN.com. This took a long time to load in Firefox, compared with the other two browsers. The look is clean in Firefox, however, and full functionality is intact. It is almost as if the media companies are optimizing for this browser. Internet Explorer again loads more ads and popups. The layout of the front page has more dead space, but the functionality remains intact. In Opera Mini, the site has a dramatic reduction in visuals, and the site s layout is altered such that stories appear in a linear list, without the formatting and compartmentalization of the full sized browsers. With Amazon.com, Internet Explorer also suffers from excessive dead space, for example at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A lot of the teachers at my school have been there a long while so I value their advice and sharing experience, it is good practice. Some staff at my school are not only class teachers but also specialise in other areas, speech and language, special needs etc. It is not only their professional experience but some teachers have outside interests, ie art, this is useful as you could ask for some creative activities or ideas to try with your own groups to assist the children with learning. • 4. Personal Narrative-The Red Bus The Red Bus It all happened one regular afternoon on a Wednesday at Hertford County Early College. It was around 4:40 p.m. and video game club had just dismissed from Ms. Smyth s room, everyone except for Nick and Alston. They were still waiting for their rides. While waiting, they noticed a mysterious red bus pull up about 30 yards from them. They had never seen a red bus before but didn t pay it any mind. Alston decided he wanted something to drink. He told Nick that he would be back and left for the vending machine. It took Alston about ten minutes to get his drink and come back. When he got back Nick had left so he figured he had been picked up. Alston received a text saying his dad wouldn t be there until six and it was already five so Alston decided to walk around. He started to the red bus just to get a better peak at it. As he was walking, he noticed a tree with a bush beside it. Inside the bush laid Nicks bags. The bags all had a ... • 5. Malcolm X Movie Analysis The film Malcolm X was released in 1992. In the movie, Malcolm X is portrayed by Denzel Washington. It is a biographical drama that depicts the life and legacy of African American civil rights leader, Malcolm X. One theme that I found to be very evident throughout this film is evolution. To evolve means to gradually go through a major change. This film effectively captures Malcolm X evolving from a troubled teen with a rough childhood into one of the most influential and powerful leaders of all time. Malcolm Little was born on May 19, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska. Both of his parents were proclaimed pan africanist and followers of black nationalist leader Marcus Garvey. There were also very active in the Universal Negro Improvement Association. When Malcolm was 6 years old, his father was killed by members of a white supremacist group called the Black Legion, mainly because of him involvement with UNIA and his commitment to pan africanism and the advancement of colored people, which was highly frowned upon during that time. When he was 13 years old, his mother was admitted into a mental health facility after suffering a nervous breakdown. Consequently, Malcolm and his 10 siblings were separated and sent to various foster homes. In 1943, Malcolm moved to Harlem, New York where he began to engage in several illegal activities such as drug dealing, robbery, pimping, and gambling. In 1946, he was arrested and sent to jail for larceny and breaking and entering. During his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The woman named Luci says No worries I believe we re both adults here and the man named Lon responds with Believe what you want that right there shows that this couple does not like agreeing with each other and that Lon is sort of childish because of his sarcastic response. So they talk and argue with each other for a couple more lines then Lon comes out and says Just because you re eighteen, that doesn t mean you re an adult. Neither does being fifty six. Some of the stuff that he said is true but when you are old enough to live alone you kind of have to have responsibilities. As we get older we have to learn how to rely on ourselves and how to take charge of our responsibilities. Lon said we just pretend to appear responsible because that s what we believe an adult is. I think this statement is wrong because if an adult doesn t become responsible they will suffer a lot in there lives. For example there comes a point in everybody s lives when our parents don t and maybe can t take care of us any more, so we have to go and get jobs, buy a home, get a career, and stuff like that. If an adult doesn t do this than what will come from their future they wouldn t be able to do anything. Another reason why I don t agree with Lon s statement is because when he said Just because you are eighteen, that doesn t mean you re an adult . I don t agree with this because in the United States of America once you turn eighteen you are officially an adult. You can get a job, you can own your own home, you can do so many other things. An example of a simplex transmission would be the alarm codes that are sent to officials at a burglar alarm company. A half duplex transmission can send a signal and then receive a signal, but cannot send and receive at the same time. An example would be a CB radio that can send a message, and then listen for the response. A duplex data transmission is capable of sending and receiving data at the same time. A telephone line is an example of a full duplex transmission system. (Eserver, 2004) Serial and parallel transmission Serial transmission is the consecutive transmission of the signal. The characters are transmitted in a sequence over a single line, rather than simultaneously over two or more lines, as in parallel transmission. • 11. Davis Bacon Act Pros And Cons 24 February 2016 SUBJECT: Davis Bacon Act 1. PURPOSE. This document provides historical information regarding the Davis Bacon Act and present day implications of the Act. Davis Bacon, established in 1931, sets a wage requirement for all construction contracts over $2,000 that are either partially or fully supported with government funds. While the Act has been controversial for many years, efforts to repeal the Act completely or to increase the dollar value threshold have failed. Some argue that the Act increases cost to Government construction contracts and may reduce competition or eliminate it completely for small businesses (CBO, 1983). Regardless, under FAR 22.404, we are responsible for ensuring that the requirements of the Davis Bacon Act are enforced and incorporated into our solicitations and contracts. 2. DISCUSSION The Davis Bacon Act was enacted in 1931 as a means to protect construction workers from being underpaid by establishing a prevailing wage (or minimum wage) for publically funded construction contracts. • 12. Arnold Schoenberg s Drei Klavierstucke Arnold Schoenberg s Drei Klavierstücke, Opus 11 (Three Piano Pieces) represent his first fully atonal work, which would become the basis for moving forward in his later atonal and serial works. Schoenberg believed that music history naturally pushed forward and that tonality could not contain music forever. He believed atonality was the next step and Schoenberg admitted, The most decisive steps forward occurred in the Two Songs, Op. 14, and in the Three Piano Pieces, Op. 11. However, small traces of tonality and Romanticism remain, as the small thematic units of the work have shown connections to that of Brahms and Liszt, especially in the opening of the first piece. Numerous theorists have tried to place these three short pieces into various tonal centers for analysis, trying to argue that it is not atonal. Attempts have been made to analyze the pieces in E major and minor, as well as phyrygian mode, with no luck on forming an agreement to place this work into the world of tonality. The first two pieces of Drei Klavierstücke were composed in February 1909 in Vienna, while the third came later in August and a revision in 1924. Schoenberg published the work with the Universal Edition in Vienna in 1910, revised in 1925. A typical performance lasts roughly 14 minutes. The world premiere of the work was given by Etta Werndorff in Vienna s Ehrbar Saal on January 14th, 1910. Schoenberg wrote these pieces in his new outburst of expressionist music in 1909, along ... In this realistic fiction book by Doris Lessing, the main character Jerry, goes to a beach and he meets some boys that go through an underwater tunnel, and he wants to go too. In the book, it says that Jerry s mom is a widow so he has no dad. This could make him want friends even more than other people because he doesn t have a dad to play catch with or something. I think that s why that Jerry wants to make friends with the big boys, who were the other kids on the beach. The first piece of evidence is To be with them, of them, was a craving that filled his whole body. This supports my claim that Jerry is lonely because this piece of evidence means that Jerry doesn t just need friends, he also wants friends. This is important because in order to have friends, you need to want friends (although exceptions exist (me)). Another piece of evidence shows that Jerry is awkward on page 5, where it says and now, in a panic of failure, he yelled up, in English, Look at me! In 2005 Spinney and Millward (2010) did a study determining that despite the benefits of leisure those living in financial poverty are not participated in active programs as they are costly, despite having the desire to. Physical inactivity can have serious physical consequences, it can lead to obesity, heart disease, diabetes, different types of cancer, and osteoporosis (Weiss, Platt, Paradis, 2007). Aside from unequal access to leisure it has also been determined that people who are LI often do not use resources that may be provided to them, either due to not knowing they exist, or issues with transportation, view of poor health, or lack of motivation (Weiss et al, 2007). Aside from physically active leisure, there are also benefits to more passive leisure as it allows individuals to detach from their other responsibilities, such as work (Sonnentag, 2012). The benefits are often psychological and can help reduce stress and increase wellbeing and social skills (Sonnentag, 2012). • 21. Merida, A Modern Personification Of The Great Mother... Mythological stories are still being used in modern era by society to understand the world and life. Its use is noticeable on media directed towards adolescent or the younger audience. Disney is known for basing their movies on mythological stories, but there has been a shift to how they use these stories. Disney Princesses such as Snow white, Aurora, Belle, were a reflection to goddesses like Aphrodite, a goddess of love, beauty and desire. Modern Princesses such as Merida, Elsa, Moana, tie to Artemis, goddess of wilderness, virginity, and protector. Most modern princesses, specially Merida, depict the mythological archetype, the Great Mother. David A. Leeming, author of The World of Myth, describes the Great Mother as earth, body of nourishment, and symbol of death and rebirth. The Great Mother represents nature and motherhood, and is an agent of rebirth or transformation. In the movie Brave, Princess Merida is on the quest to mend her mistake of changing her mother into a bear because she wanted to change her fate. Merida is a modern personification of the Great Mother archetype by having a strong connection with nature, behaving as the mother of her kingdom, and going through and influencing spiritual transformation. Leeming states that The Great Mother is also described as Mother earth. She is connected to fertility and has a deep connection with the environment. The movie Brave depicts Merida s connection with nature throughout the whole story. The song playing in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Here, the S/N value was used to measure the effect of detector voltage on the sensitivity, because both the peak signal and noise signal increase with detector voltage. The effect of detector voltages (1.65, 1.70, and 1.75 kV) on several representative compounds is shown in Figure 5. With increasing voltage, the trends of S/N values for different compounds are different, but that of each class is basically the same. Overall, the sensitivity of nearly all the compounds decreases with increasing voltages, and with the fact that higher voltage accelerates the aging of the detector, 1.70 kV was chosen in this study. The outsiders are some compounds such as nitrogen containing compounds, which do not belong to the specified groups. It is worth noting that in several cases, some compounds belonging to different groups elute in the neighboring retention times, and thus the borderlines are not exactly correct, especially when hundreds of components are present in the chromatogram. The peak density of each of the assigned areas allows for a primary evaluation of the composition of each soil sample. It appears that Sample #1 has a diverse composition with higher concentration of hydrocarbons, aliphatic acids, PAHs and PAEs, whereas Sample #2 almost exclusively contains benzene derivatives, phenolic compounds, and PAHs. THE BANKRUPTCY OF LEHMAN BROTHERS Causes of the Failure There is no single cause that led to the failure of Lehman Brothers. There were numerous causes and agents that led to the disaster, including greedy Wall Street traders, the debt load of American households, the Fed s action, rating agencies, and last but not least, the 4 deregulation (Morin and Maux, 2011). These factors were responsible for the crisis of credit and not solely the failure of Lehman Brothers. Still, the market of Credit Default Swaps was one of the biggest factors dedicating to the catastrophe, if not the biggest one as Lehman was heavily involved in that market. In explaining the sub prime market, Morin and Maux (2011) explain that sub prime loans refer to inferior quality (sub) real estate loans whose higher risk of payment default is countered by the bank with a higher interest rate. These mortgage loans, granted at variable rates, were extended to American households with modest incomes (p. 41). Presently, the world has been made much more accessible by modern technology. It is now possible to stay in constant contact with everyone around and work in areas that were unimaginable just a few short years ago. However, the constant use of this technology comes at a cost. Increased use of digital technology and current exposure to electronic fields coming from wi fi and other digital devices such as laptops, cellphones, and iPads can negatively affect humans mental and emotional health as well as social interaction skills; many of the increased health problems suffered these days are also the result of an inappropriate use of medical technology. In recent years, it seems like digital technology has slowly changed people mentally, while on one side it feeds them with knowledge, and on the other side it negatively affects people s mental and emotional health. In genome wide association studies performed in European population, it was shown that Human leukocyte antigen (HLA) class I variation (Eg. HLA B*5701) is the major contributor to viral set point and CD4+ T cell decline (Fellay et al., 2010). Cohort study of genetic polymorphism in chemokine receptors in Indian population has shown that protective CCR5 Δ32 variant is rare and CCR5HHE carrying *59402A has the high likelihood of infections (Kaur and Mehra, 2009). Kids see attractive people in movies and commercials smoking, or cartoon animals smoking and they think it is cool. If a product, like cigarettes, will make kids feel like they fit in, then they will do it even if the product will hurt them. • 45. Chemistry Lab On And Electric Vehicle I ve learned so much from working and competing in Science Olympiad. There were four competitions that were scheduled for me to compete in: Forensics, Chemistry Lab, Game On and Electric Vehicle. There was a lot of preparation and commitment that had to be put in. A slight mishap happened in Forensics we found out that only two teams could compete, so my team had to drop out , Chemistry Lab was mainly basic kinetics and gas laws during Game On we had to learn Scratch and then use that knowledge to create a game, The last event was Keltic Vehicle, in this event we had to pre design a vehicle. It would be scored by how accurate it was. I am glad I was able to pick the events to see if would really enjoy that class or occupation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It helped working together because we could share ideas to each other. The Scratch program was simple and easy to master. We did really well at studying and mastering the program. There were some issues with designing the background and characters. The limited time made it hard to make a complicated and interesting game. The game wasn t as accurate as we had hoped but it was one of my favorites. We also actually knew what we were doing. With the knowledge in Scratch I know that I ll do better next year. Doing gome on made me realise how much I enjoyed programming, and I know that skill will come in handy later in life. For Electric Vehicle I learned that time is very important with designing and programming but working on the vehicle was different we remodeled it about three times to make it work correctly and stop swerving to the left. The rules were simple: make the vehicle come to a complete stop when it hits the set distance. Our way of building the vehicle was to base it on a click system; in the system we had buttons that had a certain amount of time it would make the motors go for. The rules stated that the vehicle had to be between nine to twelve meters , (in distance of which it could travel), but at the competition it was eleven meters. When preparing for the distance runs we had to figure out how many clicks it took to go one meter. Unfortunately, it was a little more complex; it accelerated so it didn t go at a linear rate, ... • 46. Essay on Valkyrie – A Film Review A fanatically hysteric romantic with a brutal will, this is how Karl Alexander von Muller, described the personality of Adolf Hitler. Throughout Hitler s reign, people close to him had the same outlook towards him, like von Muller, and many officers and generals plotted to kill the dictator. The plot that came closest to succeeding was Project Valkyrie, which was the subject of the 2010 film Valkyrie . The film incorporated many aspects that are historically accurate, despite a number of minor historical flaws. However, there are some instances where poor concepts are shown in the film as well. Both in the movie and in history, the conspirators planned to use this document after killing Hitler to manipulate the Reserve Army into removing the power of the SS, Gestapo, and SD on the basis that these three groups were attempting to seize power. (http://www.valkyrie plot.com/1942.html) In addition, the elements that ultimately lead to an unsuccessful assassination attempt of Hitler are mostly all followed exceptionally. For example, the director expertly conveyed the hesitation and lack of cohesion between people involved in the plan to kill Hitler. The hesitation of General Olbricht and change of heart by General Fromm severely crippled Project Valkyrie. On one hand, Olbricht was very stubborn and reluctant to put the plan into effect because he did not have absolute confirmation that Hitler was killed by the blast at the Wolf s Lair. On the other hand, Fromm vehemently rejects their plan when it is put into effect and forced Colonel Claus Von Stauffenberg to arrest him in order to advance in Project Valkyrie. These two events resulted in a major setback both in the film and during the past event in history. However, he did have minor plot omissions about how the plan to kill Hitler went wrong as well. Mainly the events that resulted in Hitler switching meeting places slightly diverted from the path of history. In history, the meeting place was switched to a more open conference ... Those strengths and weaknesses are looked at in Corporate America and they assist the higher management in making decisions for the roles we play on each team. I will be discussing my strengths and weaknesses. Over the years, I have learned how to react and respond in different ways and it all depends on what is happening in my surroundings. The behavior has minimized since assuming the leadership role with Bank of America. I always would take on tasks and do them at months end then I would find myself working 18 hour days to complete what could have been started at the beginning of the month. One of the good things that my leadership has in place is a daily pulse check. This enables us to see where we stand as a leadership team and to ensure that no task goes undone. At the beginning, I continually pushed back on completing my tasks and there was always a rush at months end to complete all assigned tasks. After leaving the Army 10 years ago, I also procrastinated on my higher education until recently. I kept on stating that there was little or no time to complete my higher education. After several job declines due to not having a degree; I decided to take the step and finish my degree. Being too open or showing feelings at the work place is another weakness that I do carry. Due to citizen concern the Personal Responsibility, Welfare and Opportunity Reconciliation Act (PRWORA) came into effect. This legislation had four major goals: to assist a major target group needy families to care for children, to promote job preparation and work (that is to reduce dependency), to reduce out of wedlock childbearing, and promote mother father families. (Havemen amp; Scholz, 2001.) The Welfare Reform Act was meant to get people off of Welfare and put them to work. There became stipulations for people who receive benefits; they must work a mandatory of 20 hours after two years of assistance. Welfare Reform provided more funding for child care in the effort to get mothers back to work. Families, who have exceeded the five year limit or less depending on state laws, will no longer receive cash assistance. States are given block grants in order to provide welfare benefits to the recipients. Welfare Reform also causes states to maintain their spending on Welfare. States can receive bonuses from the Federal Government for the performance of moving Welfare recipients to work and getting them off the system. (PRWORA, n.d.) The main goal of Welfare Reform is to reduce dependency. Since Welfare Reform, TANF caseloads have dropped by nearly 50 percent. • 51. Human Beings Use Self Serving Bias This paper will discuss how we as human beings use self serving bias within our daily lives, and explain why we tend to identify, or focus on our successes, and refuse to acknowledge or own up to our failures. The question here is why do we as individuals tend to avoid, blame, or ignore the inadequacies within our lives. Many researchers believed that our emotions played a role in self serving bias , and many studies were conducted to determine how emotions, judgement, and attributions , can strongly influence us into self serving bias. Attribution bias is a part of self serving bias, and leads people to make more stable, internal, and global attributions when it comes to the positive things in their lives, rather than the negative things he or she may encounter throughout his or her life. So we will examine, analyze, validate, and link the two research studies chosen on this concept, and provide examples of how we as individuals use self serving, and attribution bias daily, and that both intertwine with one another. After reading this paper we will be aware of how often we tend to use this concept without even realizing we do it, and hopefully gain insight on how to improve ourselves when it comes handling failure.
