European Honey Bee Affect Australia s Biodiversity
How has the introduction of the European honey bee by humans to Australia s various wide
ecosystems impacted Australia s biodiversity?
THE EUROPEAN HONEY BEE
The European honey bee (or western honey bee, Apis Mellifera) is a species of bee that naturally
occurs in Europe, but has been introduced by humans to a variety of foreign ecosystems, including
Australia and New Zealand. It is of ecological importance because of the effect that this introduced
species has on the biodiversity of native wildlife, in particular native bees, hollow nesting native birds
and mammals, honeyeater birds and native flora.
Of particular interest is the fact that, despite the risk to native fauna and flora, honey produced by the
European honey bee is a major industry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Competition for floral resources
The European honey bee interacts with a wide diversity of flora (over 200) and native Australian
fauna, especially through the sharing of floral resources. These interactions can be harmful to
threatened species if the resources are limited, and due to the degree of how much the honey bee
consumes, relative to the other species.
Honey bees may account for more than half of insects using the flowers of many plant species,
meaning honey bees could remove a large share of the floral resources from Australian plants (and so
compete with native flower visiting fauna). European honey bees remove up to 80% of floral
resources produced from Australian native plants.
Taking southern parts of South Australia as an example, honeybees have been recorded visiting over
180 native plant species (approximately half of all plant species examined in this time). These plants
ranged from small herbs to large trees and included plants that used wind, insects, birds and mammals
for their pollination.
Another example is the kwongan sandplain areas of WA. Honey bees were recorded visiting 136
native plant species, which accounted for over 30% of the 413 plant species in the

Argumentative Essay About Monsters
Monsters. They appear in nightmares, under beds, and in the distance lurking around. This is how the
world perceives monsters, but according to Webster dictionary it s a powerful person or thing that
cannot be controlled and that causes many problems. There are constant encounters with them every
day because they make up who someone is. They re everywhere, in plain sight and other times
disguised, sometimes it s easier to see some more than others. Every monster has malicious ways even
if it s not intentional, it s human reaction, from little behaviors to extreme ones.
Some might feel like monsters were put here to destroy and tear humanity down, and that they ve been
that way since the beginning of their known creation. However, this is not true. To give a common
example, Darth Vader (also known as Anakin Skywalker) was once a heroic Jedi Knight, ... Show

Water And Water Pollution In The Movie Erin Brockovich
The movie Erin Brockovich is based on actual events that took place in Hinkley California, which is a
small town that was effected (and continues to be effected) by the highly toxic pollutant, hexavalent
chromium also known as chromium 6 . This toxic pollutant leaked into the drinking water used by the
residents in the small town. This leakage occurred as the result of routine operations from a plant
owned by the company Pacific Gas Electric (PG E). Hexavalent chromium was an additive used by
the company PG E for rust prevention in their water cooling systems. The company would dump
waste water containing hexavalent chromium into nearby ponds that were not lined, which then
infiltrated the local water supply. The dumping occurred many years before the law suit however the
company failed to tell the local water board of the contamination until years later and then covered
their previous and continued knowledge of the pollution. This company was a multi billion dollar
company who then lied to the residents of Hinkley to protect their profits. PG E denied that the
pollution was causing any of the severe illnesses being experienced by the residents and even worse,
stated false information that led the residents to believe that the company was compassionate about the
issues they were experiencing and they paid to help with medical costs related to the illnesses. In
addition, PG E was offering large amounts of money to buy the homes of the residents in an attempt to

The Pros And Cons Of The Reformation
The word reformation implies whole scale change, with Catholicism the very foundation of life, the
reformation should have sought to uproot this underlying power and plant a new order. However,
Henry did not refine the role of the church, as Shagan comments Given the king s promiscuous mixing
of civil and religious authority, it was not even clear where the line lay . The Ten Articles of 1536
promoted the use of image and the invocation of saints are more heartily commended , yet as an
independent activity it was up to the person whether or not this was undertaken even before the
reformation. Whilst Sacraments as a dependent activity, there only remained baptism, the Lord s
Supper, and penance, which was never up to the individual before ... Show more content on

Haigh comments people were oblivious they were in the reformation and this is backed up by the
aforementioned statistics, both reinforce that the reformation was received differently wherever it
struck, opposition was seldom united due to its array of woes presented by each person or group,
evidenced by the Pilgrimage of Grace. This begs whether the Pilgrimage of Grace was intended as a
religious or secular uprising, its result would indicate the people s acceptance or rejection of the
Henrician reformation. The demographics of the commons represented seven counties, covering a
third of England , as previously mentioned the grievances were varied and specific. Economic
inequalities can be attributed to the risings in Cumberland, Westmorland and the Craven district of the
West Riding in 1536, demands arose from the call for moderation or abolition of entry fines and other
dues, such as rising general price level forced landlords to increase dues traditionally regarded as
fixed. The living standards were precarious at best, especially since 1527 and the inconsistency of
successful harvest and the increase of population which had the potential to cause an alarming
fluctuation in the economy, which was under strain from Henry already. Dickens posits ...roots of the
movement were decidedly economic, its demands predominantly secular, its interest in Rome almost
negligible.... In short the English remained incapable of staging genuine wars of religion . This defines
the nature of opposition to Henry, grievances varied from parish to parish, person to person. This
would all seem to point to the reformation , itself, as being largely secular and from the base of Henry

How Does Poverty Affect Children
Poverty can affect children in many ways, including school, career, and life troubles. Children who
grow up in poor households are statically proven to be less successful. There is an obvious connection
between poor children also being poor adults. It is not necessarily the child s fault. As much as people
may want to believe that you create your own future, people are often products of their circumstances.
If opportunity is not presented, there is nowhere to go.
Poverty stricken families have an obvious disadvantage. They have less access to the resources it takes
to succeed. They do not have access to extra help should their child need it or access to learning tools.
Poor children are more likely to drop out and score lower on standardized tests which could be
attributed to the environment they have grown up in. If a child is taught his whole life that being poor
is all be can amount to, he starts to believe it. Even if he is not told this, children tend to view their

If a person is not given opportunity to succeed, he never will. Growing up, poor children are rarely
treated as if they will amount to anything. They are treated like they do not deserve the same
opportunities more successful families do. If a child is never taught that he can accomplish things, he
never will. He will grow into an adult thinking unsuccessful is all he will ever be. This notion doesn t
make for a lot of motivation towards a career. Well endowed families also tend to have more influence
and connections paving an easier path for their children. These children find it easy to make a way for
themselves because the opportunity is readily presented to them; they need only reach out and take it.
The less fortunate do not have this same opportunity making for a much more difficult path to success.
These children have to work much harder for every milestone

The Changing Role Of Animation In The 1940 s
During the 1940 s America was fighting battles both at home and overseas, both on screen and off.
The reason being, World War II changed the possibilities of animation. Before the war, animation was
only used for comedy and entertainment. Animation were these shorts played with color, music, and
storytelling both hand drawn and computer animated. The attack on Pearl Harbor was a turning point
in this form of entertainment because never before has the movie industry and nation been so aligned
with interests and goals. To explain, Film studios used animated characters to spread propaganda and
educate Americans about their enemies. And the animators themselves were employed to make
insignia for military units and equipment (Stillich). In brief, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

President Franklin D. Roosevelt, a longtime supporter ... of the movie industry allowed Hollywood to
continue commercial operations so longs as it cooperated with Washington in actively supporting the
war effort (Schatz 2). The films provided reasons beyond entertainment for the production of
animation, government and military officials, needed a way to reach a wide audience during the war.
They were intended to help build morale for the public, and allowed Americans to release their anger
and frustration through crude humor to simply reflect the war culture. Disney in particular made many
wartime cartoons that showed what was happening inside the United States during the war, and reflect
the cultural moment in which they were made. For instance, Daffy Duck was one of the popular
characters from Walt Disney that was used for the war effort. In a short film, called Scrap Happy
Daffy describes Daffy as he defends his scrap yard against a metal eating Nazi goat sent by an enraged
Adolf Hitler. The cartoon asks citizens to donate to the war effort by listing items which can be given

I would love to think that your family background and where come from should not predict how you

There is no doubt that Africans and Middle Eastern people are one of the loudest human beings in the

When I first moved to America, on our second day in San Antonio my parents went to HEB to gets

his hand on my mom, which he would never do. but when people started gathering around us and the

A Code Hero in Hemingway s Books Essay
A Code Hero in Hemingway s Books
Robert Jordan has been defined as a Hemingway code hero. In Hemingway s books, a code hero is
usually male, as Hemingway s books seem to have a similarity to Hemingway himself. These code
heroes may have been previously wounded or gone through some sort of an ordeal, and so they could
have a drinking problem, or a problem sleeping. They seem to be disillusioned, and/or self oriented,
and are not usually loyal to a large cause, but rather a small group of people or a relatively small idea
or thing. In For Whom the Bell Tolls, Robert Jordan, the code hero, most likely dies at the end. If it
were not for his loyalty to a small group, the events in the novel would probably not have transpired as

Indecision could provide a reason for having a sleeping problem, as he does some things other than
sleeping at night, one of the criteria for a code hero.
Disillusionment can be seen as the main contributor to the code hero definition. Jordan s
disillusionment grows throughout the novel, to the point where he doesn t believe in the rebel cause
whatsoever, war itself, or the killing of other human beings in the name of a cause. After Jordan kills
the fascist who wanders near his sleeping bag, he is bothered by a constant feeling of guilt. It seems
that Jordan experiences a change as the novel progresses, but his determination to complete the very
dangerous mission never wavers, even though it becomes very clear that they will probably not
escape. His code hero ethic to do what he needs to do manages to defeat his feelings for Maria, his
growing negative feeling about the cause, and war itself. If Jordan had simply abandoned the mission,
he would have been able to live happily ever after with Maria, but he would have let general Golz
down by not doing what he was sent to do.
At the end of the novel, Jordan ends being injured in the process of trying to escape. He convinces
Maria to leave him and escape with the rest of the band. Agustin even offers to put him out of his
misery, so he doesn t have to face the approaching fascists. Jordan, however, does not want to go out
without a fight. By

A Strange Act Of Violence
Although he appeared average and seeming to have the same dreams and aspirations of his peers, Ted
s mind was a far darker place than anyone could have imagined prior to his incarceration and eventual
conviction. At age three, Ted demonstrated a strange act of violence to his fifteen year old aunt while
she was napping. Lifting her bed sheets, he placed three large kitchen knives beside her. She recalls,
He just stood there and grinned. I shooed him out of the room and took the implements back down to
the kitchen and told my mother about it. I remember thinking at the time that I was the only one who
thought it was strange. Nobody did anything (Vronsky, 2004: 107).
In addition to his early patterns of violence, there was also a history of mental illness in the family.
This can usually mean that family members down the line are far more likely to exhibit some of these
same attributes. More than likely, these mental problems found their way through heredity into Bundy
s personality as well. An example of mental instability within the family can be seen with his
grandmother. Late in her life, she expressed symptoms of psychosis. In order to treat this, she
underwent shock therapy. It is likely that the abuse she endured through her marriage and that which
Bundy was exposed to contributed to these problems.
While in college, Bundy recalls having walked past an open window where a young woman was
undressing. Taken with this event, he began deliberately seeking

The Institution Of Slavery Structured The Lives Of Black...
Becky Roberts
HIST/WGS 4550
Mid term Essay B
Question #2
March 9, 2015
Discuss the ways in which the institution of slavery structured the lives of black and white women in
the South:
The South was politically, culturally, economically, and spiritually built around the institution of
slavery. In the antebellum South, slavery was the thread that held the fabric of society together and
defined the southern woman. Slavery was the foundation the southern hierarchy was based upon. Race
and gender determined a person s status with white slaveholding males at the top and black female
slaves at the bottom. Slave ownership elevated the status of both male and female genders, giving
white women more power within the slaveholding system. This sense of superiority and power led to
the white women s acceptance for the institution of slavery. Slavery defined white women s place in
society and gave them the belief that it could lead to social hierarchy for them. Affluent white southern
women, or southern mistresses, supported the institution of slavery because of the idea that slave
ownership provided meant you were a part of the elite of the South. Southern plantation mistresses
were the epitome of the ultimate housewives because they were free of the manual labor associated
with their domestic duties and were able to enjoy leisure time to focus on their children and husbands.
However, this picture perfect image was not the reality of the Southern plantation mistress.

Gender Stereotypes In The L Word
The L Word in one of the rare examples of a television show that centers itself on characters that fall
outside of the straight male hegemony; this is true from the introductory shots of the show. After doing
a series of setting establishing shots of LA, the camera pans across a typical suburban street, and
image that immediately invokes the idea of the typical mom and with with their kids, American
nuclear family. The next scene introduces the first character, a muscular, straight, white, cis man in a
white t shirt movie furniture within a room that one would expect to find in such a suburban scene.

By allowing the viewer to see this character once again, it gives them a familiar face to identify with.
As Mulvey suggests, most visual media is meant for white men to identify with, this type of character
gives the short allusion that the television show is going to be this same type of experience: a show
directed at straight white men. However, it quickly flips the script on this as the next scene, in which
we receive the shows first dialogue, depicts one of the women from the bed, named Tina, standing in
front of a mirror, looking at an ovulation test. Mulvey writes about what is called the mirror phase,
The mirror phase occurs...with the result that his recognition of himself is joyous in the he imagines
his mirror image to be a more complete, more perfect than he experiences his own body. Recognition
is thus mislaid with mis recognition: the image recognized is conceived as the reflected body of self,
but its mis recognition as superior projects (60). This quote describes a stage of identity in
psychoanalysis in which a child first recognizes themselves in a mirror, and can therefore imagine
themselves as more than a reflection of their mother s face even though the image is a
misrepresentation in it s incompleteness (Mulvey 60). This concept is directly applicable to this scene,
as the character standing in front of the mirror represents a stage of identification for the viewer. By
seeing the character reflected in the mirror the viewer receives a more complete image of her, is forced
into this step of self identification; thus, the audience directly cued that they are supposed to identify
with this character, rather than the male character that was shown

Flashover Chamber Research Paper
The Flashover Chamber
About two weeks ago, I went on one of the best field trips I ve ever been on. I went to Auburn Fire
Station and their flashover chamber with the fire and rescue classes. Both the fire 1 and fire 2 classes
went together. The entire experience was something that I never thought I would get to do, and I was
very lucky to have the whole opportunity. Fire and rescue offers opportunities and experiences that
some people will never experience, but this by far has been the best one so far. A flashover chamber, is
basically just a large metal box with an upper and lower layer. Firefighters can go in and sit on the

Understanding Of Free Will And God s Omniscience
Great Theologian Paper
Consolations of Philosophy
Prompt: Analyze Boethius s understanding of free will and God s omniscience as found in the
Consolation of Philosophy. (4 6 Pages)
The idea of human will has taken over Christians for centuries. Boethius the theologian offers two
different ideas in the book Consolations of Philosophy, the understanding of divine foreknowledge and
free will. Boethius explains There seems to be a hopeless conflict between divine foreknowledge of all
things and freedom of human will. For if God sees everything in advance and cannot be deceived in
any way, whatever his providence foresees will happen, must happen. Therefor, if God foreknows
eternally not only all the acts of men, but also their plans and wishes, there cannot be freedom of will,
nothing whatever can be done or even desired without its being known beforehand by the infallible
Providence of God. (Baird, Philosophic Classics, Consolations of Philosophy 126.)
Others have concluded that omniscience and human free will are exclusive. All actions are known by
God beforehand. Boethius however, refuses to accept that conclusion. He believes that freewill
absolutely is essential to moral activity and responsibility. There is a freewill...and no rational nature
can exist which does not have it. For any being, which by its nature has the use of reason, must also
have the power of judgment by which it can make decision and, by its own resources, distinguish
between things which should be

This last week at clinical was my favorite week of the entire semester. I could have spent all day in the
neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). I am very thankful for the opportunity I was given at Cardons. I

assistance before they could be discharged home. I cared for a set of twins who were on total

tries, but finally was a success. I loved how much teamwork was involved in the NICU, they were
always helping and reaching out to see if anyone needed anything. The highlight of my day was being
able to assist in a peripherally inserted central catheter, also known as a PICC line. It took almost two
hours to complete the entire procedure. After the baby was given fentanyl to help calm and partially
sedate her, I began to clean her right leg from heel to high thigh with iodine. The PICC line nurse
wanted to go in through the great saphenous vein, and used her fancy light to find the best vein the
baby had, which would be the most direct route to the heart. She inserted the needle into the skin just
as a normal IV would be started, then introduced the catheter which she cut to nineteen centimeters.
She proceeded to insert the catheter without resistance. After that was complete, x ray had to come and
check the placement. The x ray showed that the catheter was in the abdomen rather than the heart. The
nurse pulled back the catheter and started over, we waited for another x ray, and it showed that it was
in the heart, just a little high. She pulled the catheter out three centimeters and it was now in the
correct place with great blood return. It was a length but very neat process to have been a part

How Did Betsy Ross Make The American Flag
The American flag is the symbol of our nation s strength and unity. Many people wonder was it Betsy
Ross that sewed the American flag. Betsy Ross played a big role in making the first American Flag.
Betsy Ross was born on January 1, 1752 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her real name was Elizabeth
Griscom, her mom called her Betsy. She is one of seventeen children and was very close to her sisters.
During this time many girls didn t attend school, but she as one of the few that did and learned how to
read and write (USHistory, 2010). When she was twelve she took a job sewing tablecloths, curtains
and bedspreads. In this shop she met a man by the name of John Ross which she later married. Betsy

agree and take it back to Congress and pass the first flag. This flag would become the official flag of
the new United State of America. The flag had thirteen stars and thirteen stripes to represent the
thirteen colonies that won the Revolutionary War and became the United States of America. Today the
flag has fifty stars to represent the fifty States of America; however, the thirteen stripes still remain to
represent the thirteen colonies of Betsy Ross s time (Palazzo Craig, 2004).
As mentioned before the first American Flag had thirteen stars for the thirteen colonies. The American
flag is the symbol of our nation s strength and unity. The flag is a well known icon to our history. The
stars were in a circle so that no one colony would be viewed above another. It is reported that George
Washington said, Let the 13 stars in a circle stand as a new constellation in the heavens (Landau,

Similarities Between I Have A Dream And A Raisin In The Sun
A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry has many similarities to the Martin Luther King, Jr. I Have
a Dream speech. Some similarities in both the speech and the book are that there are promises that are
not fulfilled, they are both trying to achieve the American Dream, they both care about the future of
their children, and they both have dealt with obstacles in their quest for freedom. In the speech it states
...America has given the Negro people a bad check, a check which has come back marked insufficient
funds . (King). King is saying that all of them have had promises made to them that have not been
fulfilled and how the Negro population has been lied to by America saying that all are created equal
and that anything is possible which is not true to them. This connects to A Raisin in the Sun because in
the story the Youngers do not have the same opportunities as white people. Walter has to work as a
chauffeur for white people and he has bigger dreams than doing this for a job. This is the only
opportunity available to him that enables him to provide for the needs of his family though. This
would be possible if people were treated equally. In both pieces of writing, they have an American
Dream that they are trying to achieve. King wants all men to be treated equally as they have been
created equally. He says I say to you tomorrow, my friends, so even though we face the difficulties of
today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It s a dream deeply rooted in the

Similarities And Differences Between Jews And Romans
1. Rome was the western gale that had been growing in power in the centuries prior to Jesus birth.
Specifically, it grew dramatically after the republic fell and the Caesar led Empire took its place. The
emperors took on the title of son of god and the role of high priest. This god led empire looked the
Middle East, or, more specifically, to their grain, and decided to take the land and its people for itself.
Meanwhile the Jews, many of whom dwelt in this coveted land, believed that the story that Yahweh
had begun with Abraham was to moving forward. It was, to them, a story that was reaching its climax.
The Romans where in the midst of fabricating their own legacy and story of triumph, which resulted
in a clash of beliefs between the Jews and Romans. The Romans looked to their past and knew that
their history made they strong and worthy of admiration. The Jews looked to their future with hope
and confidence that the coming Messiah would bring them the honor and stability promised to their
ancestors. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is where the hurricane of divine love met the cold might of empire and the overheated aspirations
of Israel. (39) The benefits and failures of the first two aspects of the storm provide the perfect context
of the success of the third. As cruel and terrible as the Roman Empire could be, it did provide the
stability and infrastructure that was helpful in Jesus ministry and vital to the spread of the early
church. The emperor s claims of divinity also highlighted the difference between the ruler of Rome
and the Ruler of all. Additionally, that the history, legacy, and sense of promise that the Jews held so
close to their hearts put them in the position to care, for better or worse, about Jesus and the claims
that were made about

In period of time, almost every kid in US had a yoyo. The yo yo boom unfortunately ended when
Duncan went bankrupt in the late 1960s, expensive lawsuit to protect the yo yo trademark from
competitors forced the Duncan family out of business. Flambeau Products, who made Duncan s
plastic yo yo models, then took over the company and still owns it to this day (Duncan Toys Company
A Division of Flambeau 2008).
One of Duncan s successful marketing strategies was in 1995, TV advertisement with the Video Boy
commercial which airs nationwide. Commercial positioned yo yo as the more exciting option to video
games and swiped the globe including Australia, Britain and Japan to become yo yo hotspots. In 1997,
Duncan enters into a licensing agreement with Coca Cola, producing 18 different designs and in 2002,
Duncan purchased the assets of Playmaxx Inc and officially securing its position as the number one Yo
yo manufacturer in the world (Duncan Toys Company A Division of Flambeau 2008).
In a fast pace technology world, yo yo s popularity among the kids continue to decrease with other

Decision Making at Google
Decision Making at Google Inc.
Data
Google defines itself as a non conventional company which intentionally avoids the traditional
management models. Google has been managed differently in an atmosphere of creativity and
challenge. That said by Eric Schmidt, CEO, who also affirms that the business is driven according
what Peter Drucker understood as a way to manage the knowledge workers in 1959. The idea was first
described in his book The Landmarks of Tomorrow .
We know now that the source of wealth is something specifically human: knowledge. If we apply
knowledge to tasks we already know how to do, we call it productivity . If we apply knowledge to
tasks that are new and different we call it innovation . Only knowledge allows us ... Show more

By principle number 7 Strive to reach consensus ; Google stick on the view that the many are smarter
than the few and solicit a broad base of views before reaching any decision. The role of the manager is
that of an aggregator of viewpoints, not the dictator of decisions.
Principle number 8 is also the corporate slogan: Don t be evil . Schmidt, co founder and CEO says that
the company really tries to live by it, particularly in the ranks of management. Google fosters to create
an atmosphere of tolerance and respect, not a company full of yes men.
Google faces the challenge of evolving management techniques as the company grows. As decision
making pervades all managerial actions and is a continuous process, Google practices characterize the
strategic decision making process of the company. In this new model, the decision making process is
guided by a powerful coalition acting as a team and also permits decisions to evolve through trial and
error and incremental steps as needed, as Daft mentions (2007, p.299). Daft also affirms that this new
process relies less on hard data as a basis of good decisions. This statement differs from what Goggle
practices as mentioned on principle 9.
The 9th principle applies the company knowledge to support decision making: Data drive decisions .
At Google, almost every decision is based on quantitative analysis. Google uses its systems to manage

The Theme Of Happiness In Dandelion Wine By Ray Bradbury
Happiness is something that people all over the world strive for each day; it is even some s ultimate
goal in life. There are many different philosophies on how to achieve and maintain happiness, but no
two people are precisely alike on their journey. Nonetheless, there is one reiterating theme found,
everybody has been given a chance at happiness. Life has never denied anyone of at least a glimpse of
the feeling. Although there will be darkness in life, happiness is perpetually found down the road. Ray
Bradbury displays this idea in his novel Dandelion Wine. The main character, Doug Spaulding, has
many instances during his summer that supports this theme. Through the loss, change, and pain Doug
both experiences and views, he can always find happiness around him and in the life he lives.
Doug experiences many instances of loss during his summer. Between the moving of his best friend to
the death of his great grandmother, Doug s life becomes very different than it was before the summer
began. These events may cause one to believe that Doug is unhappy with his life, however it is very
much the opposite. By the end of summer, Doug is very optimistic about the next summer, saying next
year s going to be even bigger, days will be brighter, nights longer and darker (Bradbury 235). Though
the very small world of his has been flipped upside down within a few months, Doug is still happy and
knows that things are only going to get better from here. One specific instance of Doug overcoming
loss is when his best friend, John Huff, moves away. After Doug sees John for the last time, Doug
blows up in a fit of rage screaming You, John! John, you re my enemy, you hear? You re no friend of
mine! (Bradbury 111). This loss was very hard on Doug because he is very young, twelve years old,
and hasn t had to deal with anything like this. After calming down, Doug moves on and is able to find
joy in life in things such as going to the local ravine, writing revelations in his journal, and spending
time with family. He becomes content with life once again.
Change is another prevalent item in Doug s summer that some might believe could hinder his
happiness. Many parts of his life that have always been there change over this

The Message In The Deserted Village By Oliver Goldsmith
Oliver Goldsmith wrote the poem The Deserted Village in protest against the social changes that he
witnessed during his travels around England. There are numerous quotes in the poem that encapsulate
the message that Goldsmith is trying to put across. The fictional village of Auburn has now become a
place where wealth accumulates, and men decay ; this is quite a disturbing image as it is now evident
that Auburn is no longer the beautiful and rustic village that it was before the introduction of the
Enclosure acts. The quote in question encapsulates the theme and is of extreme importance to ones
understanding of the work; it sums up the message and the argument that Goldsmith is trying to put
across. Goldsmith is completely condemning the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Goldsmith saw many incidents of rustic towns and beautiful countryside being completely destroyed
for the benefit of the wealthier community (Rowley 132). These incidents that he was witness to
inspired him to write The Deserted Village which is an extremely powerful and argumentative poem.
The village of Auburn has been ruined by depopulation and the peasants that have been forced out of
this small rural village have been left with no other choice but to flee to America in search of a better
and more comfortable life. This poem is also based on the arrival of wealthy landlords to England
with the intent to gain control of the poorer surrounding areas; it is clear from reading the poem that
Goldsmith was not in favour of the social changes that were in occurrence. The social changes that he
refers to are the Enclosure acts and indeed the early effects of the industrial revolution. Goldsmith
does not like the effects of enclosure on rural life, it is clear that he is passionate about old traditions
and does not like when they are altered and replaced by a way of life that is consumed by power and
wealth. Goldsmith strongly believes that all the wealthy people in the world are corrupt and this is
evident throughout this poem; he thinks the wealthier community are malevolent and that they do not
take the poorer people of England into

Abortions Should Not Be Made On Immoral Actions
[1] Our world has an immense collection of advanced technologies, but it is a shame that many use it
for immoral actions. Such technology has given mankind the power to produce desired children from
a cellular level, but at the same time offer families the freedom to abort the unwanted. In his article,
Rajendra Kale (2012) argues that healthcare professionals should not inform parents the sex of the
unborn until 30 weeks of pregnancy to avoid termination. In another article, Margaret Little (2005)
reasons that abortions are merely the demise of fetuses, and not the violation of rights to live.
Although the two present themselves in different ways, it can be assumed that Little would ultimately
support Kale s assessments. Perhaps the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First of all, Kale argues that many feticides are prevailing due to the mere fact that the fetus is a
female. He believes that many families use gender balance among their children as a decent reason to
allow female feticide (2012). This is clearly not a decent enough reason; it is discrimination and an
excuse to kill an undesired sex. Little also supports this argument. She uses an analogy that a girl
should not end her pregnancy for the fact that she just wants to fit into a party dress as an adequate
reason(2005). To do so, is just a blind act of defiancey. There are many more prejudiced reasons
around the world that families use to opt for termination. Both Kale and Little would agree that such
filial reasons should not be used to extinguish a fetal life. Next, Kale argues that women face
emotional and physical trauma due to family pressures. Many societies pressure woman to abort their
kin against their will. Kale believes that his 30 week policy would put an end to such practices, even if
temporarily. The reason for this claim is because without the knowledge of the fetus s sex, families are
forced to continue the pregnancy. Little accounts several situations where women faced trauma due to
pregnancy: her sister s morning sickness, her friend s pregnancy psychosis, or

Case Study #1
Eugene Kranz Returns Apollo 13 to Earth
On April 13, 1970, NASA s Mission Control heard the five words that no control center ever wants to
hear: We ve got a problem here. Jack Swigert, an astronaut aboard the Apollo 13 aircraft, reported the
problem of broken down oxygen tanks to the Houston Control Center, less than two days after its
takeoff on April 11th. Those at the Control Center in Houston were unsure what had happened to the
spacecraft, but knew that some sort of explosion had occurred. This so called explosion sent Apollo 13
spinning away from the Earth at 2,000 miles per hour, 75 percent of the way to the moon. In order to

As if this was not bad enough, there was more disparaging news: a cloud of some sort was floating
above the spacecraft, leading to the assumption that an oxygen tank exploded.
Kranz s first correct move was assuring the crew that everything would turn out alright and to keep
their cool. If anyone started completely panicking, it would not help the mission be successful. After
comforting everyone, he immediately moved to the second task: how to get the astronauts home
safely. He also avoided error and speculation through self discipline and thoroughness.
At this point, there was enough oxygen in the second system to get the astronauts home safely, but
Lovell, one of the astronauts, noticed that the psi (pounds per square inch) level on the pressure gauge
for the second system was falling as well. It should normally register at 860, now it was only a 300,
only 53 minutes after the initial explosion. At this pace, the spacecraft would expend all of its oxygen
and electricity between midnight and 3 AM. This was not giving the Control Center a lot of time.
Kranz made a phone call to his previous mentor, Chris Kraft, who was the previous flight director, and
current deputy director of the Manned Spacecraft Center. After Kraft arrived at the Control Center,
Kranz began shooting orders left and right,

Cheryl s Journey Character Analysis
To hike the PCT, one would need to have three things: experience of hiking, knowledge of survival,
and the drive to continue forward. When Cheryl set foot on the trail, she knew nothing of hiking
besides a few basic skills she was taught by her step father. She suffered from her lack of knowledge
until she met these three people. One of these characters was an elderly man named Albert. His role as
mentor was brief yet the one of the most notable throughout Cheryl s journey. Albert is a seasoned
hiker who Cheryl met on the way to her first checkpoint. At first he teased her about the size of her
backpack then proceeded to ask her about her health (Strayed 93). The scene that presented Albert s
role as one of her mentors was in Chapter 7, ...feeling as if I were taking a test that I was bound to fail.
When I was done, Albert returned and methodically unpacked my pack. He placed each item in one of
two piles one to go back into my pack, another to go into the now empty resupply box... (Strayed

The Logical and Physical Topographical Layout of the Planned Network First, we need to understand
the difference between logical and physical topographical layouts. Logical layouts are how the data
move across the network and physical layouts are how the network relates to its wires and hardware
(Kevin Wallace, 2012). Note that how the data moves through the network is not going to be the same
as how the data is physically structured (Michael Harris, 2008). The most coming physical topologies
are Bus, Star, and Star Wire Ring (Kevin Wallace, 2012). The most coming logical topologies are Bus,
Ring, and Star (Kevin Wallace, 2012). LefTechs logical and physical layout will be address through a
new and innovative approached called, Fiber Distributed Data Interface (FDDI). This most commonly
uses the same type of set up as a Token Ring. LefTechs mission is to become one of the largest, fastest
and leading technology companies over the next 5 years. We believe that this type of set up will be the
most cost effective. FDDI uses a high speed fiber network to connect various areas across domains.

  • 2. European Honey Bee Affect Australia s Biodiversity How has the introduction of the European honey bee by humans to Australia s various wide ecosystems impacted Australia s biodiversity? THE EUROPEAN HONEY BEE The European honey bee (or western honey bee, Apis Mellifera) is a species of bee that naturally occurs in Europe, but has been introduced by humans to a variety of foreign ecosystems, including Australia and New Zealand. It is of ecological importance because of the effect that this introduced species has on the biodiversity of native wildlife, in particular native bees, hollow nesting native birds and mammals, honeyeater birds and native flora. Of particular interest is the fact that, despite the risk to native fauna and flora, honey produced by the European honey bee is a major industry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Competition for floral resources The European honey bee interacts with a wide diversity of flora (over 200) and native Australian fauna, especially through the sharing of floral resources. These interactions can be harmful to threatened species if the resources are limited, and due to the degree of how much the honey bee consumes, relative to the other species. Honey bees may account for more than half of insects using the flowers of many plant species, meaning honey bees could remove a large share of the floral resources from Australian plants (and so compete with native flower visiting fauna). European honey bees remove up to 80% of floral resources produced from Australian native plants. Taking southern parts of South Australia as an example, honeybees have been recorded visiting over 180 native plant species (approximately half of all plant species examined in this time). These plants ranged from small herbs to large trees and included plants that used wind, insects, birds and mammals for their pollination. Another example is the kwongan sandplain areas of WA. Honey bees were recorded visiting 136 native plant species, which accounted for over 30% of the 413 plant species in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Argumentative Essay About Monsters Monsters. They appear in nightmares, under beds, and in the distance lurking around. This is how the world perceives monsters, but according to Webster dictionary it s a powerful person or thing that cannot be controlled and that causes many problems. There are constant encounters with them every day because they make up who someone is. They re everywhere, in plain sight and other times disguised, sometimes it s easier to see some more than others. Every monster has malicious ways even if it s not intentional, it s human reaction, from little behaviors to extreme ones. Some might feel like monsters were put here to destroy and tear humanity down, and that they ve been that way since the beginning of their known creation. However, this is not true. To give a common example, Darth Vader (also known as Anakin Skywalker) was once a heroic Jedi Knight, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That voice inside saying to kick that little kid or go take a dollar from mom, she won t notice . It s always there it never goes away, because it s apart of who we are, in our DNA. An old writer, Wes Craven once said A lot of life is dealing with your curse, dealing with the cards you were given that aren t so nice. Taking from this that no matter the situation people can t judge others just because somebody s curse is larger than others. Everyone has moments when the other side comes out, it just the matter if you let it consume you. This philosophy has stood true as early as the 18th century and earlier for example in I was firmly convinced in my own mind that Justine, and indeed every human being, was guiltless of this murder. after this quote Frankenstein goes on to explain how he feels guilty that it was his creation that killed his brother he still wasn t going to say anything because they would blame him. There s things people do on a daily bases that make them the monsters they are it doesn t have to be something drastic it can be a little white ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Water And Water Pollution In The Movie Erin Brockovich The movie Erin Brockovich is based on actual events that took place in Hinkley California, which is a small town that was effected (and continues to be effected) by the highly toxic pollutant, hexavalent chromium also known as chromium 6 . This toxic pollutant leaked into the drinking water used by the residents in the small town. This leakage occurred as the result of routine operations from a plant owned by the company Pacific Gas Electric (PG E). Hexavalent chromium was an additive used by the company PG E for rust prevention in their water cooling systems. The company would dump waste water containing hexavalent chromium into nearby ponds that were not lined, which then infiltrated the local water supply. The dumping occurred many years before the law suit however the company failed to tell the local water board of the contamination until years later and then covered their previous and continued knowledge of the pollution. This company was a multi billion dollar company who then lied to the residents of Hinkley to protect their profits. PG E denied that the pollution was causing any of the severe illnesses being experienced by the residents and even worse, stated false information that led the residents to believe that the company was compassionate about the issues they were experiencing and they paid to help with medical costs related to the illnesses. In addition, PG E was offering large amounts of money to buy the homes of the residents in an attempt to move ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Pros And Cons Of The Reformation The word reformation implies whole scale change, with Catholicism the very foundation of life, the reformation should have sought to uproot this underlying power and plant a new order. However, Henry did not refine the role of the church, as Shagan comments Given the king s promiscuous mixing of civil and religious authority, it was not even clear where the line lay . The Ten Articles of 1536 promoted the use of image and the invocation of saints are more heartily commended , yet as an independent activity it was up to the person whether or not this was undertaken even before the reformation. Whilst Sacraments as a dependent activity, there only remained baptism, the Lord s Supper, and penance, which was never up to the individual before ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Haigh comments people were oblivious they were in the reformation and this is backed up by the aforementioned statistics, both reinforce that the reformation was received differently wherever it struck, opposition was seldom united due to its array of woes presented by each person or group, evidenced by the Pilgrimage of Grace. This begs whether the Pilgrimage of Grace was intended as a religious or secular uprising, its result would indicate the people s acceptance or rejection of the Henrician reformation. The demographics of the commons represented seven counties, covering a third of England , as previously mentioned the grievances were varied and specific. Economic inequalities can be attributed to the risings in Cumberland, Westmorland and the Craven district of the West Riding in 1536, demands arose from the call for moderation or abolition of entry fines and other dues, such as rising general price level forced landlords to increase dues traditionally regarded as fixed. The living standards were precarious at best, especially since 1527 and the inconsistency of successful harvest and the increase of population which had the potential to cause an alarming fluctuation in the economy, which was under strain from Henry already. Dickens posits ...roots of the movement were decidedly economic, its demands predominantly secular, its interest in Rome almost negligible.... In short the English remained incapable of staging genuine wars of religion . This defines the nature of opposition to Henry, grievances varied from parish to parish, person to person. This would all seem to point to the reformation , itself, as being largely secular and from the base of Henry s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. How Does Poverty Affect Children Poverty can affect children in many ways, including school, career, and life troubles. Children who grow up in poor households are statically proven to be less successful. There is an obvious connection between poor children also being poor adults. It is not necessarily the child s fault. As much as people may want to believe that you create your own future, people are often products of their circumstances. If opportunity is not presented, there is nowhere to go. Poverty stricken families have an obvious disadvantage. They have less access to the resources it takes to succeed. They do not have access to extra help should their child need it or access to learning tools. Poor children are more likely to drop out and score lower on standardized tests which could be attributed to the environment they have grown up in. If a child is taught his whole life that being poor is all be can amount to, he starts to believe it. Even if he is not told this, children tend to view their parent(s) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If a person is not given opportunity to succeed, he never will. Growing up, poor children are rarely treated as if they will amount to anything. They are treated like they do not deserve the same opportunities more successful families do. If a child is never taught that he can accomplish things, he never will. • 9. A Code Hero in Hemingway s Books Essay A Code Hero in Hemingway s Books Robert Jordan has been defined as a Hemingway code hero. In Hemingway s books, a code hero is usually male, as Hemingway s books seem to have a similarity to Hemingway himself. These code heroes may have been previously wounded or gone through some sort of an ordeal, and so they could have a drinking problem, or a problem sleeping. They seem to be disillusioned, and/or self oriented, and are not usually loyal to a large cause, but rather a small group of people or a relatively small idea or thing. Indecision could provide a reason for having a sleeping problem, as he does some things other than sleeping at night, one of the criteria for a code hero. Disillusionment can be seen as the main contributor to the code hero definition. Jordan s disillusionment grows throughout the novel, to the point where he doesn t believe in the rebel cause whatsoever, war itself, or the killing of other human beings in the name of a cause. After Jordan kills the fascist who wanders near his sleeping bag, he is bothered by a constant feeling of guilt. It seems that Jordan experiences a change as the novel progresses, but his determination to complete the very dangerous mission never wavers, even though it becomes very clear that they will probably not escape. His code hero ethic to do what he needs to do manages to defeat his feelings for Maria, his growing negative feeling about the cause, and war itself. If Jordan had simply abandoned the mission, he would have been able to live happily ever after with Maria, but he would have let general Golz down by not doing what he was sent to do. At the end of the novel, Jordan ends being injured in the process of trying to escape. He convinces Maria to leave him and escape with the rest of the band. Agustin even offers to put him out of his misery, so he doesn t have to face the approaching fascists. Jordan, however, does not want to go out without a fight. By ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Becky Roberts HIST/WGS 4550 Mid term Essay B Question #2 March 9, 2015 Discuss the ways in which the institution of slavery structured the lives of black and white women in the South: The South was politically, culturally, economically, and spiritually built around the institution of slavery. In the antebellum South, slavery was the thread that held the fabric of society together and defined the southern woman. Slavery was the foundation the southern hierarchy was based upon. Race and gender determined a person s status with white slaveholding males at the top and black female slaves at the bottom. Slave ownership elevated the status of both male and female genders, giving white women more power within the slaveholding system. This sense of superiority and power led to the white women s acceptance for the institution of slavery. Slavery defined white women s place in society and gave them the belief that it could lead to social hierarchy for them. Affluent white southern women, or southern mistresses, supported the institution of slavery because of the idea that slave ownership provided meant you were a part of the elite of the South. Southern plantation mistresses were the epitome of the ultimate housewives because they were free of the manual labor associated with their domestic duties and were able to enjoy leisure time to focus on their children and husbands. As Mulvey suggests, most visual media is meant for white men to identify with, this type of character gives the short allusion that the television show is going to be this same type of experience: a show directed at straight white men. However, it quickly flips the script on this as the next scene, in which we receive the shows first dialogue, depicts one of the women from the bed, named Tina, standing in front of a mirror, looking at an ovulation test. Mulvey writes about what is called the mirror phase, The mirror phase occurs...with the result that his recognition of himself is joyous in the he imagines his mirror image to be a more complete, more perfect than he experiences his own body. Recognition is thus mislaid with mis recognition: the image recognized is conceived as the reflected body of self, but its mis recognition as superior projects (60). This quote describes a stage of identity in psychoanalysis in which a child first recognizes themselves in a mirror, and can therefore imagine themselves as more than a reflection of their mother s face even though the image is a misrepresentation in it s incompleteness (Mulvey 60). This concept is directly applicable to this scene, as the character standing in front of the mirror represents a stage of identification for the viewer. By seeing the character reflected in the mirror the viewer receives a more complete image of her, is forced into this step of self identification; thus, the audience directly cued that they are supposed to identify with this character, rather than the male character that was shown ... Understanding Of Free Will And God s Omniscience Great Theologian Paper Consolations of Philosophy Prompt: Analyze Boethius s understanding of free will and God s omniscience as found in the Consolation of Philosophy. (4 6 Pages) The idea of human will has taken over Christians for centuries. Boethius the theologian offers two different ideas in the book Consolations of Philosophy, the understanding of divine foreknowledge and free will. Boethius explains There seems to be a hopeless conflict between divine foreknowledge of all things and freedom of human will. For if God sees everything in advance and cannot be deceived in any way, whatever his providence foresees will happen, must happen. Therefor, if God foreknows eternally not only all the acts of men, but also their plans and wishes, there cannot be freedom of will, nothing whatever can be done or even desired without its being known beforehand by the infallible Providence of God. (Baird, Philosophic Classics, Consolations of Philosophy 126.) Others have concluded that omniscience and human free will are exclusive. All actions are known by God beforehand. Boethius however, refuses to accept that conclusion. He believes that freewill absolutely is essential to moral activity and responsibility. There is a freewill...and no rational nature can exist which does not have it. For any being, which by its nature has the use of reason, must also have the power of judgment by which it can make decision and, by its own resources, distinguish between things which should be ... There are many different philosophies on how to achieve and maintain happiness, but no two people are precisely alike on their journey. Nonetheless, there is one reiterating theme found, everybody has been given a chance at happiness. Life has never denied anyone of at least a glimpse of the feeling. Although there will be darkness in life, happiness is perpetually found down the road. Ray Bradbury displays this idea in his novel Dandelion Wine. The main character, Doug Spaulding, has many instances during his summer that supports this theme. Through the loss, change, and pain Doug both experiences and views, he can always find happiness around him and in the life he lives. Doug experiences many instances of loss during his summer. Between the moving of his best friend to the death of his great grandmother, Doug s life becomes very different than it was before the summer began. These events may cause one to believe that Doug is unhappy with his life, however it is very much the opposite. By the end of summer, Doug is very optimistic about the next summer, saying next year s going to be even bigger, days will be brighter, nights longer and darker (Bradbury 235). The social changes that he refers to are the Enclosure acts and indeed the early effects of the industrial revolution. Goldsmith does not like the effects of enclosure on rural life, it is clear that he is passionate about old traditions and does not like when they are altered and replaced by a way of life that is consumed by power and wealth. Goldsmith strongly believes that all the wealthy people in the world are corrupt and this is evident throughout this poem; he thinks the wealthier community are malevolent and that they do not take the poorer people of England into ... • 26. Abortions Should Not Be Made On Immoral Actions [1] Our world has an immense collection of advanced technologies, but it is a shame that many use it for immoral actions. Such technology has given mankind the power to produce desired children from a cellular level, but at the same time offer families the freedom to abort the unwanted. In his article, Rajendra Kale (2012) argues that healthcare professionals should not inform parents the sex of the unborn until 30 weeks of pregnancy to avoid termination. In another article, Margaret Little (2005) reasons that abortions are merely the demise of fetuses, and not the violation of rights to live. Although the two present themselves in different ways, it can be assumed that Little would ultimately support Kale s assessments. Perhaps the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First of all, Kale argues that many feticides are prevailing due to the mere fact that the fetus is a female. He believes that many families use gender balance among their children as a decent reason to allow female feticide (2012). This is clearly not a decent enough reason; it is discrimination and an excuse to kill an undesired sex. Little also supports this argument. She uses an analogy that a girl should not end her pregnancy for the fact that she just wants to fit into a party dress as an adequate reason(2005). To do so, is just a blind act of defiancey. There are many more prejudiced reasons around the world that families use to opt for termination. Both Kale and Little would agree that such filial reasons should not be used to extinguish a fetal life. Next, Kale argues that women face emotional and physical trauma due to family pressures. Many societies pressure woman to abort their kin against their will. Kale believes that his 30 week policy would put an end to such practices, even if temporarily. The reason for this claim is because without the knowledge of the fetus s sex, families are forced to continue the pregnancy. Little accounts several situations where women faced trauma due to pregnancy: her sister s morning sickness, her friend s pregnancy psychosis, or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. Leadership on Apollo 13 Essays Eugene Kranz Returns Apollo 13 to Earth Case Study #1 Eugene Kranz Returns Apollo 13 to Earth On April 13, 1970, NASA s Mission Control heard the five words that no control center ever wants to hear: We ve got a problem here. Jack Swigert, an astronaut aboard the Apollo 13 aircraft, reported the problem of broken down oxygen tanks to the Houston Control Center, less than two days after its takeoff on April 11th. Those at the Control Center in Houston were unsure what had happened to the spacecraft, but knew that some sort of explosion had occurred. This so called explosion sent Apollo 13 spinning away from the Earth at 2,000 miles per hour, 75 percent of the way to the moon. In order to get the astronauts back to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As if this was not bad enough, there was more disparaging news: a cloud of some sort was floating above the spacecraft, leading to the assumption that an oxygen tank exploded. Kranz s first correct move was assuring the crew that everything would turn out alright and to keep their cool. If anyone started completely panicking, it would not help the mission be successful. After comforting everyone, he immediately moved to the second task: how to get the astronauts home safely. He also avoided error and speculation through self discipline and thoroughness. At this point, there was enough oxygen in the second system to get the astronauts home safely, but Lovell, one of the astronauts, noticed that the psi (pounds per square inch) level on the pressure gauge for the second system was falling as well. It should normally register at 860, now it was only a 300, only 53 minutes after the initial explosion. At this pace, the spacecraft would expend all of its oxygen and electricity between midnight and 3 AM. This was not giving the Control Center a lot of time. Kranz made a phone call to his previous mentor, Chris Kraft, who was the previous flight director, and current deputy director of the Manned Spacecraft Center. After Kraft arrived at the Control Center, Kranz began shooting orders left and right, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Cheryl s Journey Character Analysis To hike the PCT, one would need to have three things: experience of hiking, knowledge of survival, and the drive to continue forward. When Cheryl set foot on the trail, she knew nothing of hiking besides a few basic skills she was taught by her step father. She suffered from her lack of knowledge until she met these three people. One of these characters was an elderly man named Albert. His role as mentor was brief yet the one of the most notable throughout Cheryl s journey. Albert is a seasoned hiker who Cheryl met on the way to her first checkpoint. At first he teased her about the size of her backpack then proceeded to ask her about her health (Strayed 93). The scene that presented Albert s role as one of her mentors was in Chapter 7, ...feeling as if I were taking a test that I was bound to fail. When I was done, Albert returned and methodically unpacked my pack. He placed each item in one of two piles one to go back into my pack, another to go into the now empty resupply box... Logical layouts are how the data move across the network and physical layouts are how the network relates to its wires and hardware (Kevin Wallace, 2012). Note that how the data moves through the network is not going to be the same as how the data is physically structured (Michael Harris, 2008). The most coming physical topologies are Bus, Star, and Star Wire Ring (Kevin Wallace, 2012). The most coming logical topologies are Bus, Ring, and Star (Kevin Wallace, 2012).
