Relationship Between Medical Service Consumption And...
2 Literature Review 2.1 Insurance demand
Economists have long explored the relationship between medical service consumption and health
insurance demand, and found that they are dependent upon each other (DING Jihong, ZHU Minglai,
2007). The relationship between the demand of health insurance and the demand of health care of a
nation has a strong relationship between, the reason lies behind the fact that health insurance is not
bought by a customer in order to obtain a good, but as a mean of been able to pay health related
services in the future (Feldstein, 1973). Having health insurance also affects the demand of health
care, specifically when looking at people that could use health care services based on the fact that they
re assured and use the health care as a prepaid service. Since health insurance twists the real price that
people pay to utilize health care, there is a great possibility for a moral hazard (Arrow, 1963; Manning
et al., 1987).
Mark V. Pauly (2007) observed that health insurance often induces moral hazard which makes it
harder for companies or the government to estimate the real coverage that a population would require.
Thus, this problems weakens the entrance to the market not only of governmental institutions that
would like to take over the health insurance, but also companies that would try to explore the
insurance market of a region. John A. Nyman s (2003), presents a different point of view about how
moral hazard affects the consumption of

Language And Communication Essay
Language is shared among all humans, but it is hardly straightforward. As mentioned in our many
lectures, Ferdinand de Saussure described language as ...series of differences of sound combined with
a series of differences of ideas. As such, there is a linguistic influence on our thoughts. Language is
much more than communicating because it can also be representational on how we think about
ourselves and the world that surrounds us. It is because we use language to express our thoughts,
feelings, and ideas, that these communications shape the process of how we think and feel. It is
something that is continuously evolving over time. Some languages can cease to exist, but new forms
can arrive in their place. This is especially so when two different languages make contact. However, it
s not necessarily the languages themselves making contact, but the people who speak those languages.
The world has a history of people migrating to new places around the globe; people like explorers and
nomads and prisoners and slaves who settle in new lands. Through these travels, many people from
different cultures and languages meet, but how can they communicate effectively? What if people are
forced to live in a place where no one speaks their native tongue? In these type of situations is what
forms a pidgin, or a kind of language used to facilitate contact and relationships between persons of
two or more languages. Trade and colonization is a critical factor of when this type of supplemental

Masculinity In A Midsummer Night s Dream
The female characters in William Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream and John Webster s The
Duchess of Malfi mirror each other. The Duchess and Hermia show courage and determination when
standing up to their oppressors. Coriola and Helena, when confronted with authority, submit to it.
Regardless of the strength of the women, however, genre determines their fate those in the comedy
live happily ever after, whereas, those in the tragedy do not live at all. Duchess In The Duchess of
Malfi, the Duchess faces scrutiny and instruction on how she should live the rest of her days. Her
brothers, Ferdinand and the Cardinal, feel that their masculinity gives them authority over the Duchess
s love life, and they want to dictate who she can marry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like the Duchess, Hermia s family also feels that they should control who she marries. Hermia s
father gives her an ultimatum Demetrius or imprisonment with possible death. So will I grow, so live,
so die, my lord, / Ere I will yield my virgin patent up / Unto his lordship, whose unwishèd yoke / My
soul consents not to give sovereignty, (I, i, 79 82). Hermia takes control over her life, and steels the
power her father had over her. She courageously runs away with Lysander, for she will only live life
on her own terms. Furthermore, with her refusal of her father s arranged marriage, she acknowledges
that she cannot be bartered and sold like property, her hand would only be won by someone she
chooses. Instead of showing courage in the face of an oppressor, Coriola acts in a different way. In the
Duchess of Malfi, the Duchess maid does not share her strength and grace Cariola instead crumbles to
a man who tells her what to do. You are deceived, sir, / I am not prepared for t, I will not die; / I will
first come to my answer, and know / How I have offended, (IV, ii, 229 31). Coriola tries to deny her
involvement, and tries to make excuses to save her life. She allows her executioner the satisfaction of
taking her life while she acts scared and powerless she dies on Bosola s terms, not her

Analysis Of Tinker Vs. Des Moines, And Bethel V. Fraser
The first amendment, which is considered the right to freedom of speech, is a misconception to many.
Not all citizens, but some, think that because of the first amendment; they can say whatever they want.
Although citizens of the United States have the right to freedom of speech, this freedom of speech is
viewed differently by others. Which leads to confusion as to what can be said and what cannot be said.
Both court cases: Tinker v. Des Moines, and Bethel v. Fraser involved the confusion and
misunderstanding of this first amendment. In December, 1969, a group of students in Des Moines held
a meeting in the home of Christopher Eckhardt to plan a public showing of their support for a truce in
the Vietnam War. 1 These students decided to wear black armbands to show their support. These
students included: John F. Tinker, Hope Tinker, Mary Beth Tinker, Paul Tinker, and Christopher
Eckhardt. Whenever the Principal found out about their plan, he stated that any student found wearing
these black armbands would be suspended.2 Despite the Principal s warning, the students still wore
the black armbands.3 On December 16, Christopher Eckhardt and Mary Beth Tinker wore their black
armbands to school and were sent home. The next day, John Tinker wore his armband and was also
sent home. Because of the protest, the students did not return to school until after New Year s Day.
This was the date they planned to end the protest.4 Parents, of the children who were sent home, were
furious.

Feed By Anderson
Zbigniew Brzezinski once said no matter how deeply disturbing the thought of using environment to
manipulate behavior for national advantages to some, the technology permitting such use will very
probably develop within the next few decades Throughout the years, humans have seen a significant
amount of technology advancements and its implication for human beings and the environment. M.T.
Anderson s novel Feed gives readers a representation of ing aa future dystopian world, one in which
technology is not just around us but implanted inside our heads. Anderson draws parallels between our
society and that of the feed which creates an ominous warning for our own society. The environment
turns into a disaster due to how rapidly technology is advancing. Has technology s rapid advancement
allowed humans to produce meat without having animals? This is represented in the chapter A Day in
the Country, when Titus and Violet visit a filet mignon farm (Anderson, page 142). A farm that has no
livestock but instead has plantations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The world of the feed is infected with so much radiation in the atmosphere that humans are not
allowed to reproduce children through sexual intercourse. A couple s genes are no longer needed to
create a child. As a result of this, individuals can control the outcome of their children. As Titus s mom
describes what she told the we want him with my nose and his dad s eyes, and for the rest, we have
this picture of DelGlacey Murdoch (Anderson, page 116). In today s society there are different ways
to have kids through surrogates or embryos.
Either in the world of the feed or in real life, technology has separated humans from connecting with
nature. As a result, humans have become the consumers instead of being the receiver. Just like the
synthetic meat humans become artificial. Technology, as Anderson describes, has become an end of

a sailor would return from the dock when he worked, with a new tale of adventure and when a new

morning, so he could figure out exactly what was making him feel so excited subconsciously. He
grabbed that morning s paper for his boss, an extra task he did in the morning because Jared so hated
extra social interaction. Then treated himself to half a fresh loaf of bread at the farmers market. He had
had a very good month taking jobs in addition to graveyard shifts at the moore, if he kept up he might

Thomas Hardy has structured Hap to meet all the requirements of the form of an English sonnet: Its

The idea however is quite challenging. It reminds me of a young philosopher who is questioning why
bad things happen to good people. Surely it is chance, but what Hardy is hinting towards is what if it
is a bad thing only because we THINK it is a bad thing? It is almost circular. I do not know much
about Hardy but what I do know is that he tried really hard to believe in god but in the end, he came
out completely agnostic. This poem shows that struggle.
Hap is a poem by Thomas Hardy (1840 1928) that he wrote in 1866, while working as a trainee
architect, and for which he could not find a publisher. It did not reach the general public until 1898
when Hardy included it in his first collection, which was entitled Wessex Poems , which only
appeared after he had concluded his career as a highly successful novelist.
The poem is a sonnet, although it is presented as three stanzas in that the traditional octave is split into
two stanzas each of four lines and the sestet is a stanza on its own. The rhyme scheme is ABAB
CDCD EFEFFE, which is a variant on the Shakespearean form, although the clean break between
octave and sestet is more associated with the Petrarchan sonnet form.
The poem can be seen as Hardy s reaction to the basic thinking that underlies Darwin s The Origin of
Species which had been published in 1859. Hardy understood Darwin to imply that the mechanism
that drove natural

Oleanna Play Analysis
This is the first Mamet play I have read (sacrilege, I know) and I was pleasantly surprised. My only
prior experience was a production of Sexual Perversity in Chicago which I found to be dated
(reasonable) and stilted (unacceptable). I also find it annoying that actors, in general find his writing to
be so brilliant. Plus the scenes I have seen people do never sound natural: too many cryptic pauses and
unfinished thoughts, not enough contractions, and Mamet s penchant for saying do you see? instead of
you know? . Anyway Oleanna was a pleasant surprise because in reading the text it occurred to me
that the language could be made to sound more natural if the actor works at it. So maybe what I have

What Is A Superfluous Man
When Mikhail Lermontov wrote A Hero of Our Time, his main character, Gregory Alexandovich
Pechorin was arguably the prototype of what was to become the superfluous man, which would
become prominent in so many other Russian novels. As most literature s subtle goals are not so easily
discernable, Lermontov subtly used Pechorin to debunk romanticism in an indirect way. He did so in a
way that shocks readers out of their ordinary idea of what a protagonist (specifically romantic) should
be, because Pechorin is in fact, a superfluous man. The understanding of what Romanticism, the
Byronic Hero, and how the superfluous man came to be, shows how it can be iterated that Pechorin
helps show Romanticism as the set of damaging set of ideals it really ... Show more content on

It sounds glamourous in theory. Russia contracted Romanticism through Germany due to Catherine
the Great s emphasis on education amongst other things, Few other rulers of her time who had such

her government in fact 30% of her government was not Russian (Hosking). Russia needed her youth
to go to other countries to bring the education there. Due to students traveling abroad, works were
translated from French, eventually prose was introduced, as well as Gallicisms (Billington). This
seems to only point more towards where Romanticism came from. Ironically, neither Russia nor
Germany spoke the romantic language, French. Arguably, Romanticism was born of the political
upheaval and empowerment of the people of France and America for that matter. After this age of
revolutions, the energy left over from the realization that people have these undeniable human rights
probably led to a core value of Romanticism, which is that everyone has a

The Fair Tax Is A Proposed Tax Reform
The Fair Tax® is a proposed tax reform to the current taxation process of the federal government in
the United States. Written by John Linder and first introduced to Congress in 1999, the Fair Tax® is a
proposition for the federal government to get rid of all current taxes (including federal income taxes,
estate taxes, payroll taxes, etc.) and tax only the purchasing of goods and services for personal
consumption. Instead of taxes being applied to income, each individual would receive their full
paycheck with no federal taxes deducted and instead a 23% sales tax ($0.23 for every $1.00) would be
included in the price of an item. This translates to about a 30% sales tax ($0.23 on top of every $0.77)
today, because instead of the item being $1.00 it would be sold for $0.77 with a $0.23 tax on top,
whereas the price under the Fair Tax® would be $1.00 with the tax included in the price. This
percentage would be adjusted each year based on the government s revenue in the previous fiscal year.
To make up for the large tax on sales, each citizen would receive a prebate or annual consumption
allowance check that should negate the sales tax on purchases that are essential for living. The prebate
would be given to each individual based on the poverty level. (1) There are several points made
opposing the Fair Tax®, but in this paper I will mainly be discussing the supporting points and how it
would benefit our country s citizens, businesses, economy, and government. During the first

Why Did The Americans Dominate The New World Essay
We are all aware of the fact that when the Europeans traveled to the New World, they conquered it.
This has been taught to us throughout our lives. However, there are many theories as to why the
Europeans dominated the New World. There may have been many factors that led to the fall of the
people living in the New World. Thus, I believe the main three reasons I received, alliance that was
formed, and disease that was contracted from the Europeans. I believe that fear is a very powerful
weapon. Therefore, when the omens of the Tlatelolco and Nahua communities started to become true,
it struck it in their hearts. There were a total of eight omens. The first omen started about ten years
before the Spaniards came over the New World. A couple of the omens are a tongue of fire in the sky,
the mountain name of Tlacetecc burned and flared, a temple struck by lightning, and a lake boiling.
The most important omen I believe is when Moteeuccoma seen the ash colored crane the second time

an alliance with such a strong force to avoid the destruction of ones people and to destroy your
enemies at the same time. If there is an alliance, there is no reason to fight a feared army. Therefore,

Is Preventative Medicine Be The Key For The Future Of Our...
Journal Week 4 7
The video chosen for this week s journal focused was absolutely amazing. The video focused on the
future of medicine and the many inventions that are up and coming. It was very insightful. The
focuses that really grabbed my attention was to cure the well before they get sick, personalized
healthcare, and bio informatics (Kraft, 2011). Preventative medicine is the key to the future of our
patients. As healthcare workers, we are not seeing patients until their disease process has progressed
beyond prevention and it is in a later stage that now requires treatment. The invention that interest me
the most was the virtual colonoscopy. The population I work with are mainly over the age of 50 years
old. When asked if they have ever received a colonoscopy, 80% of them say they have not. I think the
virtual colonoscopy would eliminate the fear factor for most patients and would allow us to catch
diseases of the GI tract faster before treatment is needed.

Using Alternatives Sources Of Energy
Up until a few years ago, we used to exploit fossil fuels for almost all of our needs (heating,
transportation, etc.) without thinking if there are enough supplies or even about their negative effects
their emissions cause to the environment. According to many scientific investigations our fossil fuel
resources (oil, coal and gas) are running out, furthermore their emissions pollute the environment and
contribute to the greenhouse effect. Undoubtedly, these situations as well as the fact that the demand
for electricity is increasing more and more globally made us thinking about using alternatives sources
of energy. Many possible fuels are being tested at the moment in order to find which one is the most

Despite the fact that things seemed to run smoothly, in 1973 when the oil crisis began, nuclear
industry had to face environmental issues which made the construction of power stations such an
expensive deal. Nowadays, nuclear power seem to be more promising than ever due to the increased
demand of electricity. After many investigations experts have determined that there are two ways that
nuclear power can be utilized. The first way is called Nuclear Fission , this way is mainly used in
power stations, uranium and other heavy elements are used as fuels. By its reaction heavy cores
separate into medium sized cores, where energy is released. The following figure shows how much
electricity was generated in 6 countries by nuclear power in 2007.
The second way that nuclear power can utilizes is called Nuclear Fusion , this way needs more
investigation in order to be applied in power stations. Hydrogen and other light elements would be
used as fuels and from its reaction fuse light cores are converted into medium sized cores, where
energy is released. Nuclear Fusion s 2 most promising reactions are the DT reaction, which fuses
deuterium (heavy isotope of hydrogen) with tritium (heavier isotope of hydrogen), making Helium
(light monoatomic gas) and the DD reaction, which fuses deuterium with deuterium. Despite their

The Fall of Rome and Nazi Germany
Societies flourish and fall, all of them do. They fight and suffer and even kill to keep their society
alive. As a result, societies like ancient Rome and Nazi Germany, eventually fall and crumble. Over
time some of these societies recover, but are never the same again. Societies fail due to political
corruption, loss of resources and war. These obstacles are hard to overcome, but not impossible. These
obstacles weaken and tear at societies, until they finally break, turning them into a piece of history.
Political Corruption and the fall of government are one of the main reasons why societies fail.

Analysis Of Articles On The Patriots
Upon further analysis of the Herald articles on the Patriots from January 19, 2015 through the 25th,
there was a clear and cautious decision to keep journalism standards and not wanting to alienate
themselves from the already falling readership through their agenda setting and framing. In this
context, the journalistic standards being used are the ones provided by The Society of Professional
Journalists (SPJ). These standards include, seeking the truth, accuracy, context, and [being] correct.
Agenda setting is defined as the specific topics published by the Herald setting the agenda for the day

For example, The Herald s January 20, 2015 edition included 10 articles about the Patriots as a whole,
and of those 10, only three pertained to the Patriots cheating accusation or even mentioned the
scandal. Although there was still a limited amount of information regarding the scandal, it was one of
the hottest topics in sports. It is rather peculiar that only two the third article only sarcastically
mentions it articles were written when it s the hometown club. It should be noted that the investigation
and news were still light and it could explain the light amount of the articles mentioning deflategate.
However, it wasn t the only day. The Herald s January 24, 2015 edition had five articles pertaining to
the Patriots playing in the Super Bowl (no mention of deflategate) and only two focusing on
deflategate. However, the January 22 edition of the Herald went Deflategate heavy in content,
producing eight deflategate articles only three not related to the scandal. The heavy pro deflategate
coverage is equated to how much more information was learned on January 21st, giving the Herald the
opportunity to expand on the story without having too much to worry about from the readership. From

Comparing Leadership In The First Avenger And Iron Man
Leadership skills are an essential element to the development of effective leaders. Some leaders have
natural abilities while others are thrust into a position of leadership and develop on the way.
Ultimately I believe great leadership skills are derived from values, beliefs and skills in relaying those
values and beliefs to the people around them. With effort we can all develop the key elements to
ultimately motivate and effectively lead any team to success. In this essay I will compare and contrast
two persons with very different leaderships styles and analyze their abilities to effectively lead. Steve
Rogers is the main character of the movie The First Avenger and is great contrast to Tony Stark of the
movie Iron Man . Both have very different backgrounds, values and beliefs which ultimately translate
to the people around them as they are both chosen to lead. This compare and contrast will also span a
series of six movies in order to track the development of these characters as they mature and
experience difficult challenges in the eyes of their team. The First Avenger The First Avenger takes
place during WWII. Steve Rogers is a young scrawny kid who is convinced it is his duty and
responsibility to fight in the war. Unfortunately, Steve suffers from a host of ailments and is ... Show

Judging Young Goodman Brown
The short story Young Goodman Brown, by Nathaniel Hawthorne, accurately bestows all aspects of an
allegory. According to Merriam Webster, an allegory is a story, poem, or picture that can be interpreted
to reveal a hidden meaning, typically a moral or political one. Through this work, Hawthorne is able
to depict the apparent hypocrisy in today s world and especially in religion in America. The story is of
a man, Young Goodman Brown, who is highly tempted by the devil himself and in the end caves to
the pressure due to his lack of faith and even due to a little curiosity. Brown could not help but wonder
what this new world could potentially behold for him; unfortunately, his curiosity didn t change him
for the better, only for the worse. The ceremony and changing opened his eyes and made him see the
true colors of those around him. We see how Brown loses faith in the people in his community, his
family, and especially in himself. We first see Browns opinion on those around him when he shows up
to the ceremony in the woods and thinks that It was strange to see that the good shrank not from the
wicked, nor were the sinners abashed by the saints. (Hawthorne 1128). This is when Brown first
realizes that some of the people he believes complete saints truly weren t, but rather were sinners in
disguise. It was said that when Brown first came onto the streets after the ceremony, he

surprisingly worked and he soon found himself venturing out and purchasing 15 variety stores all
located around the central area by 1960. Everyone in town thought Sam was nuts for taking such a
serious risk on drastically cutting back prices, but Sam never felt the least bit worried about his
strategy. In 1962, the first Wal Mart opened its doors, along with two other well known discounting

History And Formation Of Enron
History and Formation of Enron Enron was formed through the merger of Houston Natural Gas
(HNG) of Houston, Texas and InterNorth of Omaha, Nebraska. HNG covered the Florida and
California market, their pipelines running from east to west. InterNorth catered the Iowa and
Minnesota market, their pipelines running from north to south. HNG was formed in 1920, providing
gas to retail customers in Houston. The company sold its retail gas business in 1920 and ventured into
the gas exploration and production business. In the year 1984, HNG had $3.7 billion in assets, over $2
billion in sales and booked profits of $123 million. In 1984, InterNorth had revenues of $7.5 billion.
The reason behind the merger was that InterNorth faced the threat of a buyout by corporate raiders as
it had low debt and high revenues. The conservative operations and low debt of InterNorth made it a
target for corporate raiders who planned to use its cash reserves and borrowing capacity to extract
funds for themselves. On the other hand, HNG had borrowed heavily to expand its pipelines in the
Florida and California markets. Therefore, merging with Houston Natural Gas made perfect sense as it
fended off corporate raiders. In May 1984, InterNorth acquired HNG for $2.4 billion, under the
leadership of Sam Segnar who was the CEO of InterNorth at that time. The negotiations for HNG
were handled by John Wing and he was able to negotiate a price for HNG shares which was 40%
higher than the ongoing market price.

The Electronic Baggage Handling System
Denver International Airport looks courageously into the prospect of an electronic baggage handling

a dreadful and instantly got to be well known because it was able to consume, and misplace bags in its

as moderate expenses for the project, creating a clear set of goals and enhance a good communications

The electronic system has cost the airport a lot of expenses in designing and installing, after its
letdown, the conventional baggage system that had to be conveyed with extra expenses and the long
time spent while opening the airport lead to the extra cost. Some of the most significant are: lack of
enough time allowed to develop the system properly, the business requirements of the airline kept
changing, the company planning and implementing the system did not create a system of this scale
and also those making key decision undervalued the difficulty involved leading to failure of the
project (Montealegre, R., Keil, M., 2000).

Ice Hockey Is The Highest Level For Men s Hockey
Ice hockey is a contact team sport played on ice, usually in a rink, in which two teams of skaters use
their sticks to shoot a vulcanized rubber puck into their opponent s net to score points. Ice hockey
teams usually consist of four lines of three forwards, three pairs of defencemen, and two goaltenders.
Normally, each team has five players who skate up and down the ice trying to take the puck and score
a goal against the opposing team. Teams normally have a goaltender as their sixth on ice player, whose
job is to prevent the puck from entering the goal.

The contemporary sport of ice hockey was developed in Canada, most notably in Winsor, where the
first hockey game was played on March 3, 1875. Some characteristics of that game, such as the length
of the ice rink and the use of a puck, have been retained to this day. Amateur ice hockey leagues began
in the 1880s, and professional ice hockey originated around 1900. The Stanley Cup, emblematic of ice
hockey club supremacy, was first awarded in 1893 to recognize the Canadian amateur champion and
later became the championship trophy of the NHL. In the early 1900s, the Canadian rules were
adopted by the Ligue Internationale de Hockey sur Glace, the precursor of the IIHF and the sport was
played for the first time in the Olympics in the Olympic Games of 1920.

Langston Hughes And Gwendolyn Brooks
Langston Hughes and Gwendolyn Brooks are regarded as highly influential poets in African American
literature, which continues to inspire writers to this day. Langston Hughes is a well known pioneer of
the Harlem Renaissance, a movement in which African Americans in Harlem during post World War I
and the early 1930 s began a cultural and artistic revolution. During this time, African American
musicians, artists, writers, and poets revolutionized their position in and through many artistic fields of
expression. This cultural and artistic revolution redefined how America viewed the African American
population, which garnered respect and criticism from Americans nationwide. Gwendolyn Brooks, an
African American poet also in the 19th century, was introduced to Langston Hughes at a young age
peeking her interest in the Harlem Renaissance that eventually became a foundation and influence in
her writing. Gwendolyn Brooks and Langston Hughes share similarities in the writing as she was
highly inspired by Langston Hughes, but also share many differences that are responsible for making
their pieces of writing unique to other authors and each other.
Gwendolyn Brooks often expressed the prejudices of being an African American in her writing. In her
1959 popular poem We Real Cool, published as part of The Bean Eaters (Layng), Gwendolyn Brooks
educates readers on what often befell African American youths that chose to leave school and engage
in illegal activities. The poem describes

Aristotle s Value Of Happiness
Human beings spend a lifetime finding the meaning of life and what makes us happy. In Aristotle s
Nicomachean s Ethics, Aristotle gives his own wisdom to his son, Nicomachean on how to achieve the
end goal of life which is happiness. He explores this virtue of happiness through many other
characteristics and virtues. One of the characteristics, Aristotle explores for one to be happy is
moderation. Overindulgence in food, sex, and drinks can lead to dangers in one s life. To obtain
happiness and live a complete life, one must be moderate.
Aristotle asserts that moderation is a mean with respect to pleasures (Aristotle 62). Aristotle takes into
account both the body and soul when discussing pleasures. What gives a person pleasures? In many
cases, food, drinks, sex, listening to one s favorite music, and even hanging out with friends can give
someone pleasure. Overindulgence of pleasures of the body (food, drink, and sex) is limited compared
to the soul (honor and learning) which is unlimited. Aristotle makes the argument that when a person
takes enjoyment in the smelling of apples, roses, or incense (Aristotle 64) they are not licentious since
that smell could remind that person of a past encounter that could signal desire (Aristotle 64).
Aristotle then compares human to animals with the direct reference to a lion; where a lion does not
receive desire because it smells the meat of a cow, but because the lion knows that it will take pleasure
in eating the cow s meat

Civil disobedience, also called passive resistance, refusal to obey the demands or commands of a

Compare And Contrast The Ashcan School By George Bellows...
New York and its skyscrapers were magical and mysterious wonders. Depicted numerous ways by
artists, each portrayal exhibits something new. George Bellows, with the Ashcan School, shows New
York as a vast, abundant city and wants to promise individuals a prosperous future in the city because
the influx on immigrants at the time were giving cities a bad reputation. Alfred Stieglitz, with his use
of photography, exhibits the beauty within the city and displays it as a piece of art because the debate
on the artistic value of photography was in full swing, and Stieglitz craved to prove that photography
is a form of high art. With Bellows and Stieglitz s artwork of New York, there is an element of
appreciation for the city. The Ashcan School established itself outside of the academy and attempted to
cultivate a sense of rebelliousness in their artwork. At the time, immigrants were flowing into
American cities and overcrowding the streets. This left individuals picturing a city of dirt, grim, and
overcrowding, which was quite an unpleasant image. So, artists, like George Bellows in New York,
began depicting the city as a promise land overflowing with opportunity. New York portrays a grand

Business partners quickly learned that ripping Guzman off or betraying him was not an option. The

The Civil Rights Movement began in order to bring equal rights and equal voting rights to black
citizens of the US. This was accomplished through persistent demonstrations, one of these being the
Selma Montgomery March. This march, lead by Martin Luther King Jr., targeted at the
disenfranchisement of negroes in Alabama due to the literacy tests. Tension from the governor and
state troopers of Alabama led the state, and the whole nation, to be caught in the violent chaos caused
by protests and riots by marchers. However, this did not prevent the March from Selma to

attention of President Lyndon B. Johnson, who declared that he deplored the brutality. King was also
determined to march from Selma to Montgomery in order to present the governor with the proposal
for voting rights and to continue fighting the oppression ( Central Point 24).
March 16 saw a demonstration in Montgomery, Alabama in which 580 demonstrators planned to

These protestors included a large number of northern college students. They met a police line a few

Witch Hunts In The 19th Century
From the 1480s to early 1800s, mass hysteria erupted throughout the European continent. These cases
of witches and demonic possession, along with minor events of hysteria that ran rapid throughout
Europe. This resulted in suspicions and persecutions that continue today.
Most witch hunts were started during backdrops of social, economical, or religious change. The
generalized stress branched from these backdrops, including the epidemics and natural disasters, seem
to be the major cause of all hysterical outbreaks. Such as some malign conspiracy, one of the rumor
panics, was attempting to destroy the Christian religions through poison, witchcraft and demons.
These hunts come and go for nearly three centuries, in variations to time. The range of death varied
from the 26,000 estimated deaths in Germany to the lowest four deaths in Ireland. Also, research

  • 2. Relationship Between Medical Service Consumption And... 2 Literature Review 2.1 Insurance demand Economists have long explored the relationship between medical service consumption and health insurance demand, and found that they are dependent upon each other (DING Jihong, ZHU Minglai, 2007). The relationship between the demand of health insurance and the demand of health care of a nation has a strong relationship between, the reason lies behind the fact that health insurance is not bought by a customer in order to obtain a good, but as a mean of been able to pay health related services in the future (Feldstein, 1973). Having health insurance also affects the demand of health care, specifically when looking at people that could use health care services based on the fact that they re assured and use the health care as a prepaid service. Since health insurance twists the real price that people pay to utilize health care, there is a great possibility for a moral hazard (Arrow, 1963; Manning et al., 1987). Mark V. Pauly (2007) observed that health insurance often induces moral hazard which makes it harder for companies or the government to estimate the real coverage that a population would require. Thus, this problems weakens the entrance to the market not only of governmental institutions that would like to take over the health insurance, but also companies that would try to explore the insurance market of a region. John A. Nyman s (2003), presents a different point of view about how moral hazard affects the consumption of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Language And Communication Essay Language is shared among all humans, but it is hardly straightforward. As mentioned in our many lectures, Ferdinand de Saussure described language as ...series of differences of sound combined with a series of differences of ideas. As such, there is a linguistic influence on our thoughts. Language is much more than communicating because it can also be representational on how we think about ourselves and the world that surrounds us. It is because we use language to express our thoughts, feelings, and ideas, that these communications shape the process of how we think and feel. It is something that is continuously evolving over time. Some languages can cease to exist, but new forms can arrive in their place. This is especially so when two different languages make contact. However, it s not necessarily the languages themselves making contact, but the people who speak those languages. The world has a history of people migrating to new places around the globe; people like explorers and nomads and prisoners and slaves who settle in new lands. Through these travels, many people from different cultures and languages meet, but how can they communicate effectively? What if people are forced to live in a place where no one speaks their native tongue? In these type of situations is what forms a pidgin, or a kind of language used to facilitate contact and relationships between persons of two or more languages. Trade and colonization is a critical factor of when this type of supplemental ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Masculinity In A Midsummer Night s Dream The female characters in William Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream and John Webster s The Duchess of Malfi mirror each other. The Duchess and Hermia show courage and determination when standing up to their oppressors. Coriola and Helena, when confronted with authority, submit to it. Regardless of the strength of the women, however, genre determines their fate those in the comedy live happily ever after, whereas, those in the tragedy do not live at all. Duchess In The Duchess of Malfi, the Duchess faces scrutiny and instruction on how she should live the rest of her days. Her brothers, Ferdinand and the Cardinal, feel that their masculinity gives them authority over the Duchess s love life, and they want to dictate who she can marry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Like the Duchess, Hermia s family also feels that they should control who she marries. Hermia s father gives her an ultimatum Demetrius or imprisonment with possible death. So will I grow, so live, so die, my lord, / Ere I will yield my virgin patent up / Unto his lordship, whose unwishèd yoke / My soul consents not to give sovereignty, (I, i, 79 82). Hermia takes control over her life, and steels the power her father had over her. She courageously runs away with Lysander, for she will only live life on her own terms. Furthermore, with her refusal of her father s arranged marriage, she acknowledges that she cannot be bartered and sold like property, her hand would only be won by someone she chooses. Instead of showing courage in the face of an oppressor, Coriola acts in a different way. In the Duchess of Malfi, the Duchess maid does not share her strength and grace Cariola instead crumbles to a man who tells her what to do. You are deceived, sir, / I am not prepared for t, I will not die; / I will first come to my answer, and know / How I have offended, (IV, ii, 229 31). Coriola tries to deny her involvement, and tries to make excuses to save her life. She allows her executioner the satisfaction of taking her life while she acts scared and powerless she dies on Bosola s terms, not her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Analysis Of Tinker Vs. Des Moines, And Bethel V. Fraser The first amendment, which is considered the right to freedom of speech, is a misconception to many. Not all citizens, but some, think that because of the first amendment; they can say whatever they want. Although citizens of the United States have the right to freedom of speech, this freedom of speech is viewed differently by others. Which leads to confusion as to what can be said and what cannot be said. Both court cases: Tinker v. Des Moines, and Bethel v. Fraser involved the confusion and misunderstanding of this first amendment. In December, 1969, a group of students in Des Moines held a meeting in the home of Christopher Eckhardt to plan a public showing of their support for a truce in the Vietnam War. 1 These students decided to wear black armbands to show their support. These students included: John F. Tinker, Hope Tinker, Mary Beth Tinker, Paul Tinker, and Christopher Eckhardt. Whenever the Principal found out about their plan, he stated that any student found wearing these black armbands would be suspended.2 Despite the Principal s warning, the students still wore the black armbands.3 On December 16, Christopher Eckhardt and Mary Beth Tinker wore their black armbands to school and were sent home. The next day, John Tinker wore his armband and was also sent home. Because of the protest, the students did not return to school until after New Year s Day. This was the date they planned to end the protest.4 Parents, of the children who were sent home, were furious. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Feed By Anderson Zbigniew Brzezinski once said no matter how deeply disturbing the thought of using environment to manipulate behavior for national advantages to some, the technology permitting such use will very probably develop within the next few decades Throughout the years, humans have seen a significant amount of technology advancements and its implication for human beings and the environment. M.T. Anderson s novel Feed gives readers a representation of ing aa future dystopian world, one in which technology is not just around us but implanted inside our heads. Anderson draws parallels between our society and that of the feed which creates an ominous warning for our own society. The environment turns into a disaster due to how rapidly technology is advancing. Has technology s rapid advancement allowed humans to produce meat without having animals? This is represented in the chapter A Day in the Country, when Titus and Violet visit a filet mignon farm (Anderson, page 142). A farm that has no livestock but instead has plantations ... As Titus s mom describes what she told the we want him with my nose and his dad s eyes, and for the rest, we have this picture of DelGlacey Murdoch (Anderson, page 116). In today s society there are different ways to have kids through surrogates or embryos. Either in the world of the feed or in real life, technology has separated humans from connecting with nature. As a result, humans have become the consumers instead of being the receiver. Just like the synthetic meat humans become artificial. Technology, as Anderson describes, has become an end of ... He knew when a sailor would return from the dock when he worked, with a new tale of adventure and when a new shipment came. And because of that Elijah hurried off from his room to get to the dock early that morning, so he could figure out exactly what was making him feel so excited subconsciously. He grabbed that morning s paper for his boss, an extra task he did in the morning because Jared so hated extra social interaction. Then treated himself to half a fresh loaf of bread at the farmers market. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The idea however is quite challenging. It reminds me of a young philosopher who is questioning why bad things happen to good people. Surely it is chance, but what Hardy is hinting towards is what if it is a bad thing only because we THINK it is a bad thing? It is almost circular. I do not know much about Hardy but what I do know is that he tried really hard to believe in god but in the end, he came out completely agnostic. This poem shows that struggle. Hap is a poem by Thomas Hardy (1840 1928) that he wrote in 1866, while working as a trainee architect, and for which he could not find a publisher. It did not reach the general public until 1898 when Hardy included it in his first collection, which was entitled Wessex Poems , which only appeared after he had concluded his career as a highly successful novelist. The poem is a sonnet, although it is presented as three stanzas in that the traditional octave is split into two stanzas each of four lines and the sestet is a stanza on its own. The rhyme scheme is ABAB CDCD EFEFFE, which is a variant on the Shakespearean form, although the clean break between octave and sestet is more associated with the Petrarchan sonnet form. The poem can be seen as Hardy s reaction to the basic thinking that underlies Darwin s The Origin of Species which had been published in 1859. Hardy understood Darwin to imply that the mechanism that drove natural ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Oleanna Play Analysis This is the first Mamet play I have read (sacrilege, I know) and I was pleasantly surprised. My only prior experience was a production of Sexual Perversity in Chicago which I found to be dated (reasonable) and stilted (unacceptable). I also find it annoying that actors, in general find his writing to be so brilliant. Plus the scenes I have seen people do never sound natural: too many cryptic pauses and unfinished thoughts, not enough contractions, and Mamet s penchant for saying do you see? instead of you know? . Anyway Oleanna was a pleasant surprise because in reading the text it occurred to me that the language could be made to sound more natural if the actor works at it. • 12. What Is A Superfluous Man When Mikhail Lermontov wrote A Hero of Our Time, his main character, Gregory Alexandovich Pechorin was arguably the prototype of what was to become the superfluous man, which would become prominent in so many other Russian novels. As most literature s subtle goals are not so easily discernable, Lermontov subtly used Pechorin to debunk romanticism in an indirect way. He did so in a way that shocks readers out of their ordinary idea of what a protagonist (specifically romantic) should be, because Pechorin is in fact, a superfluous man. The understanding of what Romanticism, the Byronic Hero, and how the superfluous man came to be, shows how it can be iterated that Pechorin helps show Romanticism as the set of damaging set of ideals it really ... Russia needed her youth to go to other countries to bring the education there. Due to students traveling abroad, works were translated from French, eventually prose was introduced, as well as Gallicisms (Billington). This seems to only point more towards where Romanticism came from. Ironically, neither Russia nor Germany spoke the romantic language, French. Arguably, Romanticism was born of the political upheaval and empowerment of the people of France and America for that matter. After this age of revolutions, the energy left over from the realization that people have these undeniable human rights probably led to a core value of Romanticism, which is that everyone has a ... • 13. The Fair Tax Is A Proposed Tax Reform The Fair Tax® is a proposed tax reform to the current taxation process of the federal government in the United States. Written by John Linder and first introduced to Congress in 1999, the Fair Tax® is a proposition for the federal government to get rid of all current taxes (including federal income taxes, estate taxes, payroll taxes, etc.) and tax only the purchasing of goods and services for personal consumption. Instead of taxes being applied to income, each individual would receive their full paycheck with no federal taxes deducted and instead a 23% sales tax ($0.23 for every $1.00) would be included in the price of an item. This translates to about a 30% sales tax ($0.23 on top of every $0.77) today, because instead of the item being $1.00 it would be sold for $0.77 with a $0.23 tax on top, whereas the price under the Fair Tax® would be $1.00 with the tax included in the price. This percentage would be adjusted each year based on the government s revenue in the previous fiscal year. To make up for the large tax on sales, each citizen would receive a prebate or annual consumption allowance check that should negate the sales tax on purchases that are essential for living. The prebate would be given to each individual based on the poverty level. (1) There are several points made opposing the Fair Tax®, but in this paper I will mainly be discussing the supporting points and how it would benefit our country s citizens, businesses, economy, and government. • 14. Why Did The Americans Dominate The New World Essay We are all aware of the fact that when the Europeans traveled to the New World, they conquered it. This has been taught to us throughout our lives. However, there are many theories as to why the Europeans dominated the New World. There may have been many factors that led to the fall of the people living in the New World. Thus, I believe the main three reasons I received, alliance that was formed, and disease that was contracted from the Europeans. I believe that fear is a very powerful weapon. Therefore, when the omens of the Tlatelolco and Nahua communities started to become true, it struck it in their hearts. There were a total of eight omens. The first omen started about ten years before the Spaniards came over the New World. A couple of the omens are a tongue of fire in the sky, the mountain name of Tlacetecc burned and flared, a temple struck by lightning, and a lake boiling. The most important omen I believe is when Moteeuccoma seen the ash colored crane the second time he foreseen a group of outfitted for war men riding deer (Sahagun). I ... The strategy of the Indians was to capture the enemy and sacrifice them later but the Spaniards objective was to just slaughter the enemy. It would make perfect sense to make an alliance with such a strong force to avoid the destruction of ones people and to destroy your enemies at the same time. The video focused on the future of medicine and the many inventions that are up and coming. It was very insightful. The focuses that really grabbed my attention was to cure the well before they get sick, personalized healthcare, and bio informatics (Kraft, 2011). Preventative medicine is the key to the future of our patients. As healthcare workers, we are not seeing patients until their disease process has progressed beyond prevention and it is in a later stage that now requires treatment. The invention that interest me the most was the virtual colonoscopy. The population I work with are mainly over the age of 50 years old. When asked if they have ever received a colonoscopy, 80% of them say they have not. I think the virtual colonoscopy would eliminate the fear factor for most patients and would allow us to catch diseases of the GI tract faster before treatment is needed. According to Merriam Webster, an allegory is a story, poem, or picture that can be interpreted to reveal a hidden meaning, typically a moral or political one. Through this work, Hawthorne is able to depict the apparent hypocrisy in today s world and especially in religion in America. The story is of a man, Young Goodman Brown, who is highly tempted by the devil himself and in the end caves to the pressure due to his lack of faith and even due to a little curiosity. Brown could not help but wonder what this new world could potentially behold for him; unfortunately, his curiosity didn t change him for the better, only for the worse. The ceremony and changing opened his eyes and made him see the true colors of those around him. We see how Brown loses faith in the people in his community, his family, and especially in himself. We first see Browns opinion on those around him when he shows up to the ceremony in the woods and thinks that It was strange to see that the good shrank not from the wicked, nor were the sinners abashed by the saints. HNG covered the Florida and California market, their pipelines running from east to west. InterNorth catered the Iowa and Minnesota market, their pipelines running from north to south. HNG was formed in 1920, providing gas to retail customers in Houston. The company sold its retail gas business in 1920 and ventured into the gas exploration and production business. In the year 1984, HNG had $3.7 billion in assets, over $2 billion in sales and booked profits of $123 million. In 1984, InterNorth had revenues of $7.5 billion. The reason behind the merger was that InterNorth faced the threat of a buyout by corporate raiders as it had low debt and high revenues. The conservative operations and low debt of InterNorth made it a target for corporate raiders who planned to use its cash reserves and borrowing capacity to extract funds for themselves. On the other hand, HNG had borrowed heavily to expand its pipelines in the Florida and California markets. Therefore, merging with Houston Natural Gas made perfect sense as it fended off corporate raiders. In May 1984, InterNorth acquired HNG for $2.4 billion, under the leadership of Sam Segnar who was the CEO of InterNorth at that time. • 33. Aristotle s Value Of Happiness Human beings spend a lifetime finding the meaning of life and what makes us happy. In Aristotle s Nicomachean s Ethics, Aristotle gives his own wisdom to his son, Nicomachean on how to achieve the end goal of life which is happiness. He explores this virtue of happiness through many other characteristics and virtues. One of the characteristics, Aristotle explores for one to be happy is moderation. Overindulgence in food, sex, and drinks can lead to dangers in one s life. To obtain happiness and live a complete life, one must be moderate. Aristotle asserts that moderation is a mean with respect to pleasures (Aristotle 62). Aristotle takes into account both the body and soul when discussing pleasures. What gives a person pleasures? In many cases, food, drinks, sex, listening to one s favorite music, and even hanging out with friends can give someone pleasure. Overindulgence of pleasures of the body (food, drink, and sex) is limited compared to the soul (honor and learning) which is unlimited. Aristotle makes the argument that when a person takes enjoyment in the smelling of apples, roses, or incense (Aristotle 64) they are not licentious since that smell could remind that person of a past encounter that could signal desire (Aristotle 64). Depicted numerous ways by artists, each portrayal exhibits something new. George Bellows, with the Ashcan School, shows New York as a vast, abundant city and wants to promise individuals a prosperous future in the city because the influx on immigrants at the time were giving cities a bad reputation. Alfred Stieglitz, with his use of photography, exhibits the beauty within the city and displays it as a piece of art because the debate on the artistic value of photography was in full swing, and Stieglitz craved to prove that photography is a form of high art.
