Disease Research Report
December 9, 2010
CHOLERA
Disease Defined Cholera is an infection of the small intestine that causes a large amount of watery
diarrhea. Cholera is a bacterial disease (caused by the bacterium Vibrio cholerae) usually spread
through contaminated water. The bacteria, which are found in fecal contaminated food and water
and in raw or undercooked seafood, produce a toxin that affects the intestines causing diarrhea,
vomiting, and severe fluid and electrolyte loss. This overwhelming dehydration is the outstanding
characteristic of the disease and is the main cause of death. Cholera has a short incubation period
(two or three days) and runs a quick course. In untreated cases the death rate is ... Show more

In this setting, the disease occurs primarily in young children, who are exposed to the organism
for the first time, and in the elderly, who have lower gastric acid production and waning
immunity. The poor are at greatest risk because they often lack safe water supplies, are unable to
maintain proper hygiene within the home, and may depend on street vendors or other unregulated
sources for food and drink. Recent epidemiologic research suggests that an individual s
susceptibility to cholera (and other diarrheal infections) is affected by their blood type: those with
type O blood are the most susceptible, while those with type AB are the most resistant. Between
these two extremes are the A and B blood types, with type A being more resistant than type B.
Signs and Symptoms * Dry mucus membranes or mouth * Dry skin * Excessive thirst * Glassy
or sunken eyes * Lack of tears * Lethargy * Low urine output * Nausea * Rapid dehydration *
Abdominal cramps * Watery diarrhea * Rapid pulse * Vomiting
The usual incubation period is 2 to 5 days, although it can be as short as several hours. Severe
cholera is characterized by a sudden onset of profuse, watery diarrhea accompanied by nausea and
vomiting. If left untreated, this can rapidly lead to serious dehydration, electrolyte imbalance and
circulatory collapse. Over 50% of the most severe cases die within a few hoursНѕ with prompt,
effective treatment,

Comparing Shakespeare s Shall I Compare Thee to a...
Poetry Comparison There are certain themes and ideas which appear over and over again in
literature, no matter what the genre or form. Poems which were written centuries apart can echo
similar ideas about life and humanity. Love is one such theme which presents itself repeatedly
as seen in the poetry of William Shakespeare and that of Robert Burns. Each poem, though
written more than two hundred years apart, explains what it feels like for the poet to feel love
for the singular object of their affection. The poem Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer s Day by
Shakespeare and Burns A Red, Red Rose share common images and themes with the intention of
instilling in the reader the impression of their love and in explaining the depth of their emotion
for the beloved as well as the respective poets ideas about the very nature of love and how it can
be both passionately fulfilling and devastating. William Shakespeare s 18 Sonnet, more popularly
known as the Shall I Compare Thee sonnet, is about a lover who is speaking to his beloved. Most
sonnets serve this same function; to profess love from the sonneteer to some individual whom he
loves. In these poems, the lover always uses the most amazing adjectives to describe the woman, or
sometimes the man, that he loves. The poet describes every component of his beloved, such as her
hair and her lips and her eyes. Although not a sonnet, Robert Burns poem has the same function; it
is a love poem from the unnamed narrator to the

The European Union and a Divided Cyprus Essay
The Implications for the European Union of Cyprus being divided between Turkey and Greece
The island of Cyprus is the third largest in the Mediterranean with the 2002 population around
705,5000. Its main economic activities include banking, craft exports, merchant shipping, and
tourism, which accounts for twenty percent of business (europa.eu.int). For almost thirty years it
has been split between Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots. The ongoing feud between the two
groups and the split of the island in 1974 has lead to much political tension in Europe, especially
with the European Union expanding its membership and adding, as of now, only half of the island
of Cyprus in May 2004.

The north side is referred to as the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, but is only recognized
as a country by Turkey (europa.eu.int). While the Greek side has much prosperity and low
unemployment rates, the Turkish side has much poverty and is underdeveloped (The Economist
March 15 21 2003). There have been numerous efforts at peace since the 1970s, but none have
worked (eubusiness.com 11/4/2003). The summer of 1996 is an example of this, when there were
many incidents of hostility among the line between the two sides, leaving several dead
(europarl.eu.int). In July of 1990 the Republic of Cyprus applied for membership to the European
Union in the name of the entire island (europa.eu.int). The European Union agreed to admit
Cyprus, along with nine other candidates into the union in 2004 (The Economist Jan 18 24
2003). This accession to the Union was unanimously approved by Cypriot parliament
(eubusiness.com 11/4/2003). Cyprus has always been considered ?European.? It has been a full
member of the Council of Europe since 1961 and has concluded an Association Agreement with
Eruopean Economic Community in 1972 (kypros.org). However, now leaders of the north side of
Cyprus are not cooperating, so when time comes for Cyprus to join the Union, the Greek Cypriot
side may be the only part of the island joining.?

Pro Life Vs Pro Choice Research Paper
There has been much controversy regarding the social, ethical, and medical predicament that
abortion provokes. Abortion is the procedure of ending a pregnancy with the early removal of a
fetus. There is no right or wrong when it comes to abortion; values contribute a great amount to
an individual s opinion. This process has led to numerous debates among individuals who
believe that it is up to a woman to decide what to do with her body and the individuals who hold
that women do not have the right to take away a life. Although it may seem as if the beliefs of
pro life and pro choice advocates are on opposite sides of a spectrum, the two sides can come to
an agreement about how to at least lessen the number of abortions occurring. Pro choice
advocates debate that women should have independence in regards to what they choose to do
with their own bodies. These advocates point to the Constitution to support their decision
because in 1973 the landmark decision of Roe v. Wade established that a woman s right to
abortion is protected by her constitutional right of privacy ( 30 Days: Pro Choice/ Pro Life ). This
pertains to freedom of choice. It seems as though a pro choice supporter would argue that since the

argues that an individual human life begins at the moment of fertilization.. in other words if you

Since pro life supporters believe that life begins at fertilization, it is reasonable to relate getting
rid of a pregnancy to intentionally killing an individual. Killing an individual is an act of crime,
therefore a pro choice activist may view a woman choosing to go through abortion as a criminal.
Supporters of this perspective can agree that the unborn baby also has

Summary Between Lord Of The Glies And Lord Of The Flies
Early man set up civilizations so future generations could live in peace and survive in their
surroundings. As early man developed civilizations, they contained five characteristics. Three of
the five are complex institutions, specialized workers, and record keeping. Complex institutions
are organizations like government and religious organizations. Specialized workers are people
like teachers, soldiers, and priests. Finally, cuneiform tablets were used in record keeping to
keep track of rules and trade. The characters in Lord of the Flies mirror early man s development
through complex institutions, specialized workers and record keeping. The boys in the novel
Lord of the Flies mirror the development of early man through complex institutions when they
appoint a chief. In the historical fiction novel, Clan of the Cave Bear, the text reads, the leader of
the small clan... (Auel 12). In the Lord of the Flies, after being called to the beach by the conch,
the boys vote for a chief to lead the mass of boys on the island similar to the early man leader
portrayed in Clan of the Cave Bear (Golding 22). The connection between these texts
demonstrates that the boys are going through the same development phase as early man did. In
both Lord of the Flies, and Clan of the Cave Bear, there is a chief, and even more, a complex
institution similar to a government. Now that a government has been formed, there will be workers
and a way to keep track of events. The boys in the novel

China and British Trading During the Qing Dynasty The relationship between China and Britain
during the Qing dynasty centered around trade had often be violent. China traded with many
foreign countries which often caused problems when such countries intruded on the agreements of
trade. One such country was Britain during those times. The Opium warswere a result of the illegal
exporting of opium between Britain and China. The imperial government of China often responded
to encroachments of the trading agreements of opium by attempting to create bans. China also
responded by the emperor writing to King George III. These are a few aspects of the trading that

Phoenix Jackson Character Analysis
As I previously analyzed Phoenix Jackson s character, I closely examined the external
characteristics that her person consisted of, such as her behavior and physical attributes. In
Saunders analysis of Phoenix Jackson, he deciphers her in great depth utilizing his extensive
research of other works of literature and legends. He comes to the overall conclusion that Jackson
is a characterthat can be dissected in nearly infinite ways depending on the dissector s point of
view. In both of our analysis, we concentrated our focus on differing aspects of Phoenix Jackson
that can be mutually supported and formulate another perspective of Phoenix Jackson.
In my analysis, I elaborate on the characteristics of Phoenix Jackson that she exhibits physically that
could act as key elements in determining what her true mentality is. Saunders article inversely
focuses on the abstract qualities of Phoenix Jackson and her character being an instrument in
enlightening the reader about many themes. His interpretation of one of his sources, Neil Isaac,
enhanced my thesis with new knowledge. Isaac primarily focused on biblical ... Show more content

Though my analysis differed from that particular segment of his article, he also examined an
aspect of Jackson that I too observed: Senility. In my first analysis, I cited instances that could
suggest that Phoenix Jackson is senile. I mainly described her actions as she endured difficulties
performing simple tasks. She copes by mentally preparing herself to do small feats such as going
up a hill and traversing the frozen earth. In Saunders article, he elaborates on her senility by stating
The nurse had asked six times about the condition of her grandson before Phoenix was inclined to
answer. Perhaps we should accept this as an indication of senility. By examining this singular
quality of Phoenix Jackson, a portion of our research

Photoshop in Business and Society
Businesses have countless applications for the computer software known as Photoshop. The
software is such an integrated part of society that businesses and scholarly articles assume people
have prior knowledge of what it is and what it does. Photoshop is defined by Oxford as
trademarked digital image editing software to alter photographic images. It is an industry standard
for digital graphics and has many applications to various businesses and media. Lev Manovich
wrote in Inside Photoshop that to count up the number of options in Photoshop and then count all
the options each option subsequently contains, that the total number of options the software allows
for would be in the thousands. Professionals in media, education, research, and many businesses
utilize the software. However, there is controversy surrounding the use of Photoshop in
advertisements that edited models to unrealistic levels, because of the impact those images have
on society. Nonetheless, Photoshop is widely used and has revolutionized business and integrated
into many industries not limited to media or photography. Photoshop has a brief history since it
has only been around for almost three decades. At the end of the 1980s, it was beginning to be
developed as a way of procrastination by Thomas Knoll, a University of Michigan graduate student
and doctoral candidate in computer vision. Knoll was trying to write programming code to display
gray scale computer images on a black and white bitmap monitor as

Characteristics Of Family Relationships
A famous poet Joseph Brodsky once said, Cherish your human connections: your relationships with
friends and family. I am Milagro Falcon my sisters opposite, my mothers follower, and my friends
deepest supporter. A relationship can constitute many things not just a romantic relationship. As a
young adult I still have not had a romantic relationship with someone yet that does not mean I do
not have other relationships. I do have a certain relationship with my familyand friends thus my
relationship personality and relationship personality traits differ. There are various theories and
terms that can explain the characteristics of a relationship. An example would be friendship love
which is love based on common concerns and interests, companionship, and respect for the partner
s personality and character. As a young adult social learning theory has shaped my mom s views
into my own leading to sibling rivalry bringing more flavor to the family, also my relationship with
my friends has spurred as altruistic love.
What is social learning theory and how has it shaped my relationships? Social learning theory as
described in the book Intimate Relationships, Marriages, and Families by Nick Stinnett states it
is a theory that suggests behaving in relationships by modeling their parents behaviors and
attitudes. To me it means the way a person s parents acted in a relationship thus the child mirrors
in later relationships. My mother has taught me the basics like do not eat my buggers and eat
with my mouth closed everything parents basically teach a child. Nevertheless, the core values
I learned from her relationship with my father is to be independent, and communication is key. I
did not have a male figure in my life till I was six years old. At that age I started to see what a
family is like and the foundation of one. I quickly saw the difference from when it was just my
mother and I. Before seeing my mom in a relationship, I had already seen the sense of
independence and it just moved along in the relationship. My mother did not go to school, but she
never depended on a man. Even when she was with my step dad she was still independent making
her money and doing her owns things while still being in a

Nadsat In A Clockwork Orange
One of the first things that captures a reader s attention as they re reading Anthony Burgess novel,
A Clockwork Orange, is the argot, also known as nadsat in the novel, which presents the idea that
language can shape reader s thoughts. This is depicted by the language techniques such as
descriptive language and slang (nadsat). The nadsat, which the main character and narrator, Alex,
and his friends in violence, or droogs as they call themselves, speak throughout the novel shields
the readers of the gory and brutal violence that is really being done to people. The way the author
describes the attacks, or as Alex calls ultraviolence , using the artificial language works because
all of the time the readers are reading, they have to be think about what words such as yarbles
(testicles), glazzies (eyes), and oozy (chain) mean, and so this creates a delay in the readers minds
in registering what is actually happening to the people Alex and his friends are attacking.... Show

At first sight, it would be more than difficult to tell what is happening, but after concentrating on
the sentence for a while, readers would then figure out that Alex was cutting Billyboy on the
cheeks. Overall, the effect that the descriptive language and slang/nadsat have on the readers
alienates the violence in the book, making it seem less shocking and therefore conditioning the
readers to behave in an ordinary way, also making readers feels as if they re one of Alex s friends,

who have died due to being left in hot car is quickly increasing in this year. There have been a lot
of suggestions from experts about how to prevent these accidents, but a lot of similar cases still

topic which is the increase of hot car deaths, the explanations, and the recommendations for the

Alexander Plutarch s Influence On Alexander The Great
Best known for his writings of leading figures in antiquity and his essays on ethics and virtue,
Plutarch s biography on Alexander the Great and his vision would influence tremendously upon
future western writers in regard to the interpretation of Alexander the Great. Plutarch s Alexander s

mankind and fusion between civilizations. According to Plutarch, Alexander rejected the traditional
Greek view that Persian were barbarians, and instead proclaimed that Alexander was intentionally

A World That Madeline Foo Is Tired Of An Artificial...
2092. A world that Madeline Foo is tired of. Firstly, she is tired of being in an artificial
environment. The plastic grass that was painted four times a year, the artificial trees that were
programmed to grow five centimetres a year. They were all fake. They cannot photosynthesize
and transpire nor can they produce oxygen and absorb carbon dioxide. This showed the
advancement in technology of this world but it was reflected no more than a decaying city to
Madeline. Secondly, self centred was just one of the many few adjectives that Madeline used to
describe her race. Kampong spirit and helping out one another in need? It was all but a fantasy.
Reality was much harsher. Humans of today are too preoccupied with getting the latest technology
and looking good to notice what is going on around them. Madeline found humans no better than
automatons programmed to wake up, work, eat and sleep. They are hollow shells with no heart to
feel and this was the thing that Madeline hated the most. Humans have no feelings. They pursue
pleasures without knowing what it was. They have no compassion, no empathy, especially so
when treating animals. Madeline got to her main point. She never undergone cosmetic surgeries
and treatment because of a very simple reason because animals were part of this; because of the
horrible ordeal that animals are put through for people to produce such technology for human use.
A visit to a laboratory decades ago had left a great impact on her. She was

How Breaking Bad Is Created By Vince Gilligan Essay
In this essay, I will analyse the TV show, Breaking Bad which is created by Vince Gilligan, in
relation to the theory of narrative. I will be basing this essay on the first episode of Breaking Bad
and also the TV show as a whole. We will learn to what extent Breaking Bad reflects conventional
narrative structure. First the essay will identify what conventional narrativestructure is. I will then
analyse how Breaking Bad reflects the different parts that make up narrative structure, including, the
three act structure and characterroles. I will then determine what is different about Breaking Bad
and what parts of it do not conform to conventional narrative structure. I will be discovering how
the use of conventional narrative structure effects how the audience views the text.
Narrative structure is about both the content of a story, and how the story is told by using plot.
There are different things that made up the narrative structure of a text. These include, the three act
structure and the roles of the characters. The three act structure is a model that is used in
screenwriting to divide a narrative into different parts (Cod.edu, 2015). The first act of a three act
structure is called setup. This is where setting, character, and their situations are introduced to the
audience. The second act is when something big happens so that there are major changes in the
characters life. Act three is when the problems and changes in the characters life are resolved

In Love Medicine Character Analysis
In Love Medicine there is there is various types of oppression towards Lulu and Marie for
example, usually the oppression is aimed at the culture that they grew up with, the race that
character pertains to, and the type of religion they follow. The way how characters are being
oppressed is interpreted by the reader using the Feminism School of Literary Criticism. While the
use of how these two different cultures interact was meant on purpose by Edrich, and it allowed
the Cultures to foil each other. In the book the reader is introduced to the different families and
how they interact, there are differences but they do stick together and share a lot of similarities.

Quantitative And Qualitative Research Process
Integration is the stage(s) where the quantitative and qualitative methods are mixed or integrated in
the research process (Greene, Caracelli, Graham, 1989; Tashakkori Teddlie, 1998; Creswell et al.,
2003). Mixing can occur at the beginning stage of the study when the researcher is formulating the
quantitative and qualitative research(Teddlie Tashakkori, 2003), and integration can be done at the
interpretation stage of the quantitative and qualitative results (Onwuegbuzie Teddlie, 2003). The
quantitative and qualitative phases are connected (Hanson et al., 2005) after data analysis in the
first phase to guide the data collection in the second phase. For the sequential explanatory study, I
will connect the quantitative and qualitative phase during the intermediate stage in the research
process. That is, I will select participants for the qualitative phone interview from those who
responded to the survey in the first phase (Creswell et al., 2003).
Integrating the Outcomes of Both Phases of the Study I will integrate the results of the two phases
during the discussion of the study s outcomes. As indicated in the research design, I will ask both
quantitative and qualitative research questions to better understand the roles that behavioral science
faculty fill in inpatient medicine teaching service within family medicine residencies, what
responsibilities of the roles that BSF fill, and to what extent do the responsibilities inform the roles.

Decline of Biblical Christianity and Rise of Modern ...
Christianity has quickly begun to lose its true meaning throughout the years. It s when people use
words like love and morals and common sense they just don t have the same meaning as they once
did all those years ago. Christianity though, unlike the previously stated words, has been
modernized in such ways that we have deceivingly altered things such as The Ten Commandments
to foolishly fit our desired lifestyles. We have begun a modernization of ChristianityI like to refer to
as, Twenty First Century Christianity. Christianity within itself has been the most complex simple

Christianity is no longer a category in religion, but also a category of specific people ranging
from, yes again, modernized Christians who talk the talk but have no desire to walk the walk; and
those who are called radicles because they live out the Gospel teachings going overseas and
devoting their lives to Christ. Now what are the differences between cultural (modern) Christian
and biblical Christian lifestyles? Well as David Platt put it in his book Radicle, We are settling
for a Christianity that revolves around catering to ourselves when the central message of
Christianity is actually about abandoning ourselves. Basically, David Platt was kindly beating
around the bush about us as an American culture, his book Radicle being strictly about American
Christian culture, being lukewarm in our faith, relationship and devotion to Christ in the way we
live. In Revelation 3:16, So, because you are lukewarm neither hot nor cold I am about to spit
you out of my mouth. Harsh? Yeah, probably a little bit, and one might see this and do what many
do in this era; see it, curse it, and go about their lukewarm Christian lifestyle as they have been.
You see, this is where our instant gratification society begins to crumble. To live as the Bible

Joseph Plumb Martin Essay
Joseph Plumb Martin was born upon the twenty first of November, in the year of 1760 (Martin
6). His grandparents raised him on their Connecticut farm. Inspired by the Battles of Lexington
and Concord he decided to enlist into the army. He was eager to help for the patriotic cause. In
June of 1776, at the age of 15, Martin was able to enlist but didn t want to sign up for a long
enlistment. Soldiers at the time were enlisting for a year s service but he did not like that and
thought it was too long a time for him for the first trial, I wished only to take a priming before I
took upon me the whole coat of paint for a soldier (Martin 16). Orders soon came allowing men to

He goes on to explain the living conditions he had to endure and his lack of sleep. It was utterly
impossible to lie down and to get any rest or sleep on account of the mud Martin recalls, and can
say in sincerity that I never lay down to sleep a minute in all that time (Martin 77). The fighting at
Fort Mifflin allowed Washington and his troops to withdraw to winter quarters at Valley Forge
. It
was too late in the season for the British to follow them.
After arriving at Valley Forge Martin and his fellow soldiers were about to go through the
famously long cold winter that awaited them. Martin wrote, Our prospect was indeed dreary. In
our miserable condition, to go into the wild woods and build us habitations to stay (not to live) in,
in such a weak, starved and naked condition, was appalling in the highest degree (Martin 89). He
talks about lying there two nights and one day, and had not a morsel of any thing to eat all the time
(Martin 90).
Martin describes the travel and the toll it took on men. I had now to travel the rest of the day,
after marching all the day and night before and fighting all the morning. I had eaten nothing since
the noon of the preceding day, nor did I eat a morsel til the forenoon of the next day, and I needed
rest as much as victuals. After the army had collected again and recovered from their panic, we
were kept marching and countermarching, starving and freezing (Martin

important things; the gas mask and the street light, among many other things. Garrett Augustus
Morgan was African Americanmale was born on March 4, 1877 in a small town in Kentucky

tension between him and whites. Against all odds though Morgan was able to still be a very
successful man throughout his life. He came up with and protected the first chemical hair
straightener, began his own sewing gear repair business, and even started a daily paper called
the Cleveland Call. In any case, Morgan s most productive achievements came in his part as an

there is a need for instantaneous everything, making manners optional at best. However, manners
are not the only victim suffering here. A generation of narcissists has spawned from a need for
titles, rewards, and materialistic items; creating a society based solely upon self interest. Society
has turned social media into a place of status and recognition, no longer as a place to catch up

Mary Arguelles essay, Money for Morality discusses the confusion of morals and motivation
that many authoritative figures provide for their children as noted, It seems the role models our
children look up to these days in this case, teachers are more confused and misguided about
values than their young charges (50). Arguelles is saying that society s adult figures are more
morally confused than the children they are supposed to be teaching; misdirecting their own
guidance and therefore confusing the children they are supposed to be teaching. Children are not
only being taught to receive praise for any and all accomplishments, but they now expect it, as
well as a reward. A set of distorted expectations and morals is being taught to this new generation,
developing a sense of entitlement in them. Instead of giving a child a household chore and letting
them take pride in their work, many parents are giving them money as a reward. This is a way of
teaching a child that they should be rewarded monetarily or materialistically for a job that they
should really already be expected to do. This has created a pathway for many young adults whom
have become accustomed to these rewards to become bitter or rude when they are given tasks
without monetary incentive. In a society comprised of confused narcissists and morals only guided
by incentives, we have thrown manners and morality out of the window. As the children of the
narcissistic generation mature, they become the young adults that we encounter today, holding fast
to their unattainable expectations of subservient adults and trivial rewards. Culture collides when
one of these young adults encounters an older individual, creating a situation where both parties are
offended, as each are not receiving the respect they believe is

Hills Like White Elephants Character Analysis
How does the way people portray themselves reveal more about them and the life they live? Paying
close attention to the emotions of a character and their actions can allow for more comprehension.
The use of characterization within the story Hills Like White Elephants aids the reader to further
understand the persona of an individual. In return, this allows the reader to understand them on a
deeper level with a powerful connection. Without characterization, it would be difficult for the
individual reading to form a bond with the man and the girl because they wouldn t truly understand
what they re going through. In Hills Like White Elephants , by Ernest Hemingway, the American s
dialogue, the way the girl converses and where their eyes wander give insight on how the man and
the girl have communication difficulties.
Throughout the story, it s made evident through dialogue that the man has a strong need to assert his
dominance which damages his relationship with the girl. Firstly, the man appears to have total
control within their relationship, even with uncomplicated factors. When they order drinks, the
man says, Let s drink beer. , and he simply orders them following this statement. The girl can easily
make this straightforward decision herself, but the man feels the need to take complete control.
Also, when it comes to crucial life matters, the American still asserts his dominance. The need for
the man to have control when it comes to important matters is seen when

Benefits Of A Vacation Time
Another great benefit that we offer is our vacation benefit. After working for our company for a
year, employees will receive one week paid vacation. Two to five years of service will equate to two
weeks. Five to fifteen years of service will earn three weeks of vacation time. Vacation time will
not roll over for the year. If an employee does not use it, he will lose it. Vacation will be available
for twelve months. (Anniversary to anniversary.) All vacation time must be requested two
weeks in advance for coverage, and it does not have to be taken all at once. Furthermore, we offer
sick time. This will start accumulating after working for six months. An employee can earn two
days of sick time each month, which will accrue to twenty days a year. Sick time will roll over to
the following years to a maximum of one hundred and thirty days. We also provide personal time.
Five days a year will be paid; any other personal time has to be manager approved and will be
unpaid. IRSC BAS Inc. also offers our employees $20,000 a year for four years to help pay college
tuition. The college or university will bill IRSC BAS Inc. every semester. The company has full

According to the World Health Organization, in 2013, more than 3 million children were living
with HIV. Most causes of HIV in children is through mother to child transmission during pregnancy,
breastfeeding, or during labor and delivery (Weinberg, 2016). Furthermore, only 24% of children
receive antiretroviral treatment (ART), and nearly 200,000 children died of AIDSrelated illnesses in
2013 (Children and HIV, 2015).
Research indicates a variety of symptoms and complications often appear as an infected child s
immune system deteriorates (Weinberg, 2016). The common effects of HIV in children are similar
to adults. Children that are HIV positive develop life threatening opportunistic infections (Children
and HIV, 2015). Children infected with HIV develop serious bacterial infections and often times,
may suffer from chronic diarrhea. Furthermore, children infected with HIV develop slower than a
child that does not have HIV. Mental development such as crawling, walking, and speaking are
often impaired in a child infected with HIV. Additionally, many children that are infected with the
human immunodeficiency virus tend to develop neurological problems such as poor school
performance, trouble walking, and recurrent seizures (Weinberg, 2016). The HIV infection affects

An Analytical Comparison Of Men s And Women s Literature
An Analytical Comparison of Men s and Women s Literature in Enlightenment Era Britain
Suppression of thought and action has always been a method for one people to govern over
another. When we think of suppression we typically think of slavery; the physical governance of
one group over another. However, throughout history, other forms of suppression have dominated
cultures, such as that of inequality. An example of this in today s world would be the job market
for women. Though it has undoubtedly improved through the years, a man with equal credentials to
that of a womantends to obtain a job much more easily. This is a form of suppression through
inequality by men upon women. If a woman cannot obtain a high paying job equal or better to that
of a man, she may need to be dependent on a man for financial means. Britain women during the
beginning years of the Enlightenment period experienced suppression of their education. Literature
of the 17th and 18th centuries in Britain was characterized by raillery of both men towards women
and, increasingly, women towards men fighting the educational suppression and inequality that
would lead to modern feminism. Like all major movements, such as the civil rights movement of
the 1960s, Feminism had its birth somewhere. Feminism began with women authors such as Mary
Astell, Margaret Cavendish, Aphra Behn, and Mary Leapor (Sherman 2125). For one to understand
why this movement began, one must understand the cultural context of the time

What Ever Happened To Baby Jane By Robert Aldrich
In the genre of film noir, What Ever Happened to Baby Jane is a 1962 American psychological
thriller that was directed and produced by Robert Aldrich. Aldrich created this film to use different
aspects to create many different emotions in the mind and the body of the audience as they watch
this cult classic. Five aspects that he used are lighting choice, music and instrumentation, makeup,
costume, and overt acting and expression. These aspects are used throughout the filmin many
different ways. The first aspect used in this film is lighting choice. One way that the lighting choice
created emotions in the audienceis whenever something bad is going to happen, the lighting gets
darker. For example, when Elvira (the house maid) set down the hammer and opened the locked
door that Blanche was in and Jane picked up the hammer and was about to kill Elvira, the
lighting in the room was darker than normal. Also, the use of dark lighting is used to create
suspicious, dark, or scary emotions. For example, when Jane is moving Elvira s body to her car,
the setting is very dark and creates dark, suspicious, and scary emotions.... Show more content on

In addition, many therapies and treatment specialties have developed to help heal these target
areas. Some examples of these are; surgery, dermatology, anesthesiology, neurology, obstetrics,
gynecology, drug synthesis, radiology, chemotherapy, drug therapy, genetic counseling, organ
transplants, psychiatry, psychology and physiotherapy. Evidence based medicine focuses on the
symptoms and not necessarily the root causes of health complications. As can be seen in the list
above, EBM has become more and more specialized focusing not on the whole person but on one
specific body system or even a single organ. The focus has shifted from treating the person as a
unit to treating each organ and system individually. Treatments nowadays often involves drugs
that help treat symptoms but really do nothing to treat the cause. An example of this can be
explained through the following scenario: A patient comes to a doctor with back problems and
severe pain in the lower lumbar area. The first reaction is to treat the symptoms and prescribe
pain relief drugs to ease the patient s discomfort. While this may be effective for a short period of
time, eventually the effect of the tablets wear off due to an increased tolerance. If the underlying
cause of back pain such as mis alignment , pinched nerves3, stress or tensed muscle is not

biggest killer of young people in Ireland and many are impacted by their parents drinking. One
person dies every seven hours due to alcohol in Ireland. Nine out of ten public order crimes in
Ireland are alcohol related and one tenth of the health budget is spent on dealing with alcohol

Identify And Explain The Factors That Cause Changes In...
The three factors that caused Galetown to have more severe rainstrorms this summer than in
previous years are stronger winds, higher temperature and the new lake. First of all, stronger
winds push the air parcels (An amount of air that moves as a unit) higher up in the troposphere.
The higher the air parcel is in the troposphere, the colder it is. This will cause a greater energy
transfer from the parcel to the surrounding air allowing them to become the same temperature and
having condensation occurs. This will soon fall out as rain. In the chart, it tells us that in storms 3
and 4 that all factors are the same before the storm such as the surface water (high) and the
temperatures are close enough to not make a significant difference. But the wind... Show more

When the air parcel rises in the troposphere, the more energy transfer. The reason why the energy
transfers is because the water vapor must have an equivalent temp to the surrounding air. More
energy causes it to have more evaporation transferring more water vapor to the surrounding air. As
the energy transfer occurs, the water vapor gets through condensation and turns to liquid water.
The higher the parcel gets, the colder it is in the surrounding air which causes the water to
condense and come out as rain. This is important because when the temperature of the air parcel is
higher, it will rise higher in the troposphere and the higher the cloud is in the troposphere, the more
rain that will fall. Also, the modeling tool tells us that storms 2 and 3 had all the same factors (
water vapor, troposphere temperature and surface water) but, the parcel temperature, was higher in
storm 3 which caused it to have more rain. Lastly, the reason why the weather has been acting up is
the new lake. The lake is causing more evaporation (the process by which a liquid changes into a
gas). This is important because the more evaporation there is, the more condensation (the process
by which a gas changes into a

Tyson Mistake
If we learn any lesson from this fight, it is this; we must be very careful not to repeat the mistake
that Tyson made in preparing for this fight. Tyson underestimated Douglas. He figured that since
he had beaten everyone that had beaten Douglas, he shouldn t even have to break a sweat to
defeat him. Therefore he didn t train properly or prepare for this fight. Often times, we make this
same mistake when dealing with our spiritual enemy. We often underestimate him and because of
that we fail to prepare for the fight. Tyson didn t watch any tapes of Douglas previous fights, so
that he could learn his reach, his stance or his signature moves. His failure to watch the tapes meant

Essay On Genre Analysis
How I approached writing my Genre Analysis:
I approached my genre writing based on Writing in the Health Sciences guidelines for research
papers. Since my chosen paper was a research paper, I looked for the sections in a research paper
that included the abstract, introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, and references.
This helped me decide what needed to be in each section so I could elaborate on if it was included
or was not.
How I found my sources:
I started out by going through articles on google scholar and found the one that made me most
interested. I have known people that have smoked during pregnancy and what happened to their
child so I wanted to see if children could potentially have asthma from their mom smoking. ... Show

Here I also stated if my paper had that convention and if they had any variation in a research paper
regarding to Writing in the Health Sciences. This helped me write my paper because we were to
describe each convention in our genre analysis so it gave me a start. It also helped me analyze
the effectiveness of the genre which was step 4 in our paper. Here in step 4 I think was my most
difficult part in the paper because after gaining your input on that you should not say I believe I
understand why it sounds more confident. I will now write my ideas as such, but then when

What went well in my Genre Analysis:
After receiving your comment on my genre analysis paper, I noticed that I did have a lot of
information in my paper. I went over the minimum word count because I felt that it was necessary
because I wanted to incorporate the information from the study into my paper. What also went
well in my paper was that I appropriately cited information in APA, which included in text
citations and references. If I did these wrong, I wish you could tell me since from my
understanding I did them right and want to do well on the test paper.

Stop the Bullying
Stop The Bullying
Every day, on every playground and hallway in our American schools, children, youths, and teens
are harassed, tormented, made fun, physically and mentally abused and embarrassed by bullies. Is
your child one of these bullies or a victim of bullying? This bully behavior is not only happening
in the United States but all over the world. Many children and youths observe miserably as other
school children get bullied at school. Bullies usually pick on personalities and individuals who are
weaker than themselves, so they can build themselves to feel better about themselves. Sadly to say,
many individuals have witnessed bullying or been a bully themselves. As parents, school
administrators and citizens of a community ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In more recent national study, nearly 30% of students surveyed reported being involved in
bullying in the correct term as either an offender or a victim. This translates to 3,708,284 students
reporting bullying and 3,245,904 student reporting victimization (p. 101). The consequences of
bullying are reported as depression, headaches, stomach pain, low self esteem, sleep issues and
increase risk of suicide. Many children are afraid to go to school which can interfere with their
daily lessons and academic accomplishments Smokowski Kopasz (2005).
Evidence shows that school violence at Columbine High School in Colorado was related to bullying;
two students who had been bullied shot and killed twelve students, one teacher and wounded and
tormented many others. This massacre is based on a true story and its outcomes is a calling for
parents, law enforcements, school administrators, and psychologist to understand the warning signs
and need to establish no tolerance for bullying in schools through antibullying programs. These
warning signs that were ignored by teachers or missed can increase the risk of bullying, such as
teasing, name calling, physical bullying, threatening and can lead to potential suicide or other
measure by the victim. The authors Brown and Merritt (2002) stated, The teachers would see the
outcast kids being bullied and they would look the other way (p. 50). This statement supports why
teachers must help, support, encourage, incorporate,

Factors Affecting the Resistance of Wire
Aim: To investigate the factors that affect the resistance in a conductor. The main factors that affect
the resistance in a conductor are:
В· Length
В· Temperature
В· Cross sectional area
В· Material
В· Magnetism
The factor that we are going to change is the cross sectional area.
Hypothesis: I think that the higher the cross sectional area, the lower the resistance in the
conductor will be. This is because the Resistance in a metal conductor happens because as the
electrons move through the material (once a voltage has been applied) they collide with the atoms
in the material and as a result lose some of their energy. The idea of resistance is simply how
difficult it is for the electrons to move through a material. The more difficult ... Show more content

The equation implies that the resistance is inversely proportional to cross section, so doubling the
cross section should halve the resistance.
Prediction Graph:
Preliminary work:
The circuit (above) shows how we set up the circuit for our preliminary work and our
experiments. In our preliminary work, we used some constantan wire in a circuit like above and
used it to see what voltage is best to keep the same to find the current and resistance. We found
that 3 volts was a good voltage because the current not too high or too low to get a good resistance.
We also did some preliminary work to see if there is a difference weather the two wires are apart
from each other or constantly touching each other at all parts, all the time. Our preliminary
findings were that it makes no difference. Since it made no difference, we decided to keep them
separated so we don t have to twist the wires around each other.
We also had to work out the cross sectional area of the wires. We knew that the diameter for one
wire was 0.25mm. We used the following formula to work out the cross sectional area:
Cross Sectional Area = Г•rВІ
r = the radius of the wire. The radius is half the diameter so it should therefore be 0.125mm.
Using the formula, I have worked out the Cross Sectional Area for all the wires I will use. To get
the Cross Sectional Area for two wires together you multiply what you found for the first wire by
two, for three wires you multiply by 3

Glow Sticks Experiment Results
Data Analysis The question that was resolved by this experiment was, does different temperatures
affect how long the illuminating process in glow sticks lasts? In this experiment the hypothesis
was, if the temperature is cold (5 degrees Celsius), then the glow time of the glow sticks lasting
will increase because the molecules are moving slowly and the cold water is dragging out the
reaction time making it last an extensive amount of time. The independent variable was the
temperatureof the water in the glass cup while the dependent variable was how long the sticks
glowed. Some controlled variables included 235 milliliters of water in each glass, the brand of
glow stick used which was glow play, and the color of the glow sticks which was pink. The
controlled group was the glow stick in the room temperature water, and the experimental group was
the different water temperatures. During this experiment make sure to crack the glow sticks and
shake it well before putting it in the cup.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One minute in all the trials the hot temperature glow stick gleamed the brightest and the cold and
room temperature glow stick glowed about the same. After about four hours the glow stick in hot
water went out of light. The room temperature glow stick lasted around seven to eight hours, and
the cold water glow stick lasted about ten hours. The range of how long the glow sticks lasted
came about six hours and thirty one minutes. The hypothesis was supported by the data and was
accepted. In the hypothesis it stated that the glow stick in the cold water would last the longest and
according to the data it did. The pattern that was observed in all three trials was that the glow stick
in hot water beamd brightest but lasted the least. Also in the room temperature water it lasted the
second longest, and the cold water stayed the same brightness the whole experiment until toward
the end of its life and it lasted the

Longboard Research Paper
Imagine gliding down a city street in Boise, passing all the cars and the people and other boarders.
Riding a longboard for transportation is fast, convenient, and fun. Longboards are used for both
transportation and sport. The career I ve chosen is working at a longboard shop, I d be good at this
career and happy working at it because I could help other skaters buy and fix boards. I love
longboarding and I know how to tune up longboards. I love they way they are built and the way
they work. I would love to work at a longboardshop or skateboardshop because I love
longboarding and fixing them. I have two longboards and I go out and longboard a ton. I go out
whenever I need to think or just want to have some fun. If I worked at a longboard store I could
help people find the best kind of longboard for what they want to do with it. Every kind of
longboard is meant for diffrent things, like there are downhillboards, there are cruising boards, and
there are freestyle boards.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think the trucks and bearings on a longboard are so cool, the way they re built and work. You
have to keep longboard properly cleaned and lubricated or else they will not work they way
there s supposed to. If I work at a shop I could help different people who don t know how or just
don t want to, I could help them clean them and teach them how to do it themselves. Something
fun about lots of longboard shops is you can take the boards of the rack and you can ride up and
down their hall s. If I worked in one like this whenever there weren t customers or no one that
needed help I would cruise up and down the halls trying to find which board do what and which
kind I like the best. This would actually help me be a better employee because if a customer
wanted to know what kind of board was the best, you would be able to tell them what you like and
they could try it out and see if they think the

Nuclear fission can be used to power the world, or it can be used to destroy it. That scientific
knowledge of the process of fission is neither good nor bad ethically, but the way it is applied can
have ethical and moral consequences. The scientists who developed the fission process are not
responsible for the devastation caused by the atomic bombs; the people who chose to use the
science in that manner are the ones responsible.

Types of Changing in Looking for Alibrandi Essay
There are many types of change, change in perspective, emotional change, physically change and
world change. In Looking for Alibrandi, the author, Melina Marchetta demonstrates, the concept of
change not only through the main character, Josephine, but also some other minor characters such
as Michael Andretti and John Barton though the majority is shown through Josephine. The poem,
The Door by Miroslav Holub is very similar to Looking for Alibrandi as it also shows the concept
of change but it tells us that change can mean that anything could happen even if that anything is
nothing. Change can be good, it can be bad, change can be anything and it can even start
relationships. Relationships can be a catalyst for change; it can start... Show more content on

As the novel progresses she starts to realize that it doesn t matter where you come from, you re
as special as anyone else, she says I m an Australian with Italian blood flowing rapidly through
my veins. I ll say that with pride, because it s pride that I feel (By using repetition of the word
pride demonstrates her change in self perception and her confidence in her cultural identity, it
also re enforces that she has pride in herself). After figuring out that being Italian and Australian
doesn t matter, she reassures herself, Jacob says You people should go back to your own
country if you re so confused. Josie responds This is my country, I whispered. (The fact that she
whispers demonstrates her shock and also her lack of conviction that she truly belongs which
shows us that she has accepted her culture and heritage.) Therefore I have learnt that change can
show us things that we ve never seen before and with change, we learn to accept things for the
better. As opposed to positive, change can be negative, negative change can influence the other
people around you and change them as well. In the novel, John Barton dies; this death negatively
influences the people close to him like Josie. Before John dies, Josie has a crush on him and says
to us, Picture this. School Captain of St Anthony s. Son of a member of Parliament. Greatest
debater who ever lived. Good looking.

The Importance Of Conflicts In The Jungle
The Jungle by Upton Sinclair is a tough read that teaches the corrupt policies of capitalism. The
narrator, Jurgis, struggles with his new life in America because it isn t the ideal dream that most
immigrants have. Jurgis struggles are understandable, but there are many who have never had to
experience what he has so it is harder to sympathize and compare oneself to that of a character with
no similarities. However, this novelalso teaches the hardships immigrants typically went through
during their transitions, or their lives in general, in America while also providing the reader with
healthy confusion. This novel establishes a sense of confusion, uneasiness, or worry while also
making the reader feel pleasureor happiness. There are several instances in the novel where the
reader experiences this healthy confusion while learning about the differences in lifestyles between
the fortunate and those looking to have a new life but encounter conflicts. Most scenes in this novel
are sad, but also have happiness buried deep within the text or meaning. In The Jungle, Jurgis
struggles with his life in America and has trouble finding a job to support himself, his family, and
pay off his debts, like the wedding. He is able to find a job, but it does not pay well and the
working conditions are horrible. After hurting himself and going to jail, he is unable to find another
job and does whatever he can to try to make money. The union workers eventually become aware
that they

Marxism Crime Deviance
Crime and Deviance This essay will evaluate the Marxist theory that the ruling class in society
decides the law and enforces it, to reflect their own interests. Marxism is a political and social
system based on the ideas of Karl Marx (1818 83). Marxist criminology theories began in the
1970 s. According to Marxists, society is controlled by the ruling capitalist class. They believe
that in a capitalist society, a small group of wealthy people (the bourgeoisie), own the means of
production, such as; factories, businesses, land, etc and that they exploit the working class people
(the proletariat), so that they can enjoy a huge profit and personal gain, either legally or illegally.
Marxists believe that the ruling class therefore decide... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In their theories, Marxists say that certain types of crime are more likely to be punished
compared to others. Street crimes (brawls, binge drinking, theft, muggings, social unrest and
disorder) are more likely to be pursued than white collar crime (fraud, tax evasion, insider
training and even gambling and prostitution). This is because the capitalist governments who
have run the country are sympathetic to those who are of the same belief and class, but have
just got carried away with their search for wealth. In this society of greed, the working class
have to turn to crime just to stay alive and to obtain the materialistic goods or lifestyle, which is
typical to a capitalistic state, and that general standard of living and attitude to life, is enforced on
them, when living in this type of society. Money and personal gain, and the every man for
himself attitude is what life is like in an unfair, and socially unequal way of life under a capitalist
government. In another example, in their search for high profits, employers may not enforce health
and safety regulations. For example, low paid, sometimes illegal immigrant workers have been
exploited in this manner in recent times, such as the Morecambe Bay incident in ... Marxists would

The issues begin to arise when the body of one of the customers was killed and went into the
autopsy room. This was a huge issue because it was in America and no one knew about the practice
that was happening in Guinea. The polymarker test shows that Franconi s DNA and DNA of the
liver tissue they found inside of him could not be anymore different. (248). This is when Jack
finally put the situation together to find out that the organ had to be the body s own and decided
on a trip to get to the bottom of it. Also, since there were a large number of Bonobos, they all had
tracking within them which monitored their movement. In one part of the novel, Kevin was
nervous due to seeing smoke coming from the island. He feared for the worst trying to get help to
get to the bottom of it, but was shut down due to his boss not believing him. Tracking the Bonobos
activity, it was clear that they were starting to act different than the typical Bonobo. This involved
them separating into two social groups, leaving the island to live in a cave, and killing a man who
normally fed them. As curiosity arose they began to think that the experiment was not working and
becoming a negative factor. From the information provided about the behavior of the bonobos, and

  • 2. Essay Cholera Disease Research Report Karla Obasi HEA 341 Disease Research Report December 9, 2010 CHOLERA Disease Defined Cholera is an infection of the small intestine that causes a large amount of watery diarrhea. Cholera is a bacterial disease (caused by the bacterium Vibrio cholerae) usually spread through contaminated water. The bacteria, which are found in fecal contaminated food and water and in raw or undercooked seafood, produce a toxin that affects the intestines causing diarrhea, vomiting, and severe fluid and electrolyte loss. This overwhelming dehydration is the outstanding characteristic of the disease and is the main cause of death. Cholera has a short incubation period (two or three days) and runs a quick course. In untreated cases the death rate is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this setting, the disease occurs primarily in young children, who are exposed to the organism for the first time, and in the elderly, who have lower gastric acid production and waning immunity. The poor are at greatest risk because they often lack safe water supplies, are unable to maintain proper hygiene within the home, and may depend on street vendors or other unregulated sources for food and drink. Recent epidemiologic research suggests that an individual s susceptibility to cholera (and other diarrheal infections) is affected by their blood type: those with type O blood are the most susceptible, while those with type AB are the most resistant. Between these two extremes are the A and B blood types, with type A being more resistant than type B. Signs and Symptoms * Dry mucus membranes or mouth * Dry skin * Excessive thirst * Glassy or sunken eyes * Lack of tears * Lethargy * Low urine output * Nausea * Rapid dehydration * Abdominal cramps * Watery diarrhea * Rapid pulse * Vomiting The usual incubation period is 2 to 5 days, although it can be as short as several hours. Severe cholera is characterized by a sudden onset of profuse, watery diarrhea accompanied by nausea and vomiting. If left untreated, this can rapidly lead to serious dehydration, electrolyte imbalance and circulatory collapse. Over 50% of the most severe cases die within a few hoursНѕ with prompt, effective treatment, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Comparing Shakespeare s Shall I Compare Thee to a... Poetry Comparison There are certain themes and ideas which appear over and over again in literature, no matter what the genre or form. Poems which were written centuries apart can echo similar ideas about life and humanity. Love is one such theme which presents itself repeatedly as seen in the poetry of William Shakespeare and that of Robert Burns. Each poem, though written more than two hundred years apart, explains what it feels like for the poet to feel love for the singular object of their affection. The poem Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer s Day by Shakespeare and Burns A Red, Red Rose share common images and themes with the intention of instilling in the reader the impression of their love and in explaining the depth of their emotion for the beloved as well as the respective poets ideas about the very nature of love and how it can be both passionately fulfilling and devastating. William Shakespeare s 18 Sonnet, more popularly known as the Shall I Compare Thee sonnet, is about a lover who is speaking to his beloved. Most sonnets serve this same function; to profess love from the sonneteer to some individual whom he loves. In these poems, the lover always uses the most amazing adjectives to describe the woman, or sometimes the man, that he loves. The poet describes every component of his beloved, such as her hair and her lips and her eyes. Although not a sonnet, Robert Burns poem has the same function; it is a love poem from the unnamed narrator to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The European Union and a Divided Cyprus Essay The Implications for the European Union of Cyprus being divided between Turkey and Greece The island of Cyprus is the third largest in the Mediterranean with the 2002 population around 705,5000. Its main economic activities include banking, craft exports, merchant shipping, and tourism, which accounts for twenty percent of business (europa.eu.int). For almost thirty years it has been split between Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots. The ongoing feud between the two groups and the split of the island in 1974 has lead to much political tension in Europe, especially with the European Union expanding its membership and adding, as of now, only half of the island of Cyprus in May 2004. The north side is referred to as the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, but is only recognized as a country by Turkey (europa.eu.int). While the Greek side has much prosperity and low unemployment rates, the Turkish side has much poverty and is underdeveloped (The Economist March 15 21 2003). There have been numerous efforts at peace since the 1970s, but none have worked (eubusiness.com 11/4/2003). The summer of 1996 is an example of this, when there were many incidents of hostility among the line between the two sides, leaving several dead (europarl.eu.int). In July of 1990 the Republic of Cyprus applied for membership to the European Union in the name of the entire island (europa.eu.int). The European Union agreed to admit Cyprus, along with nine other candidates into the union in 2004 (The Economist Jan 18 24 2003). This accession to the Union was unanimously approved by Cypriot parliament (eubusiness.com 11/4/2003). Cyprus has always been considered ?European.? It has been a full member of the Council of Europe since 1961 and has concluded an Association Agreement with Eruopean Economic Community in 1972 (kypros.org). However, now leaders of the north side of Cyprus are not cooperating, so when time comes for Cyprus to join the Union, the Greek Cypriot side may be the only part of the island joining.? • 5. Pro Life Vs Pro Choice Research Paper There has been much controversy regarding the social, ethical, and medical predicament that abortion provokes. Abortion is the procedure of ending a pregnancy with the early removal of a fetus. There is no right or wrong when it comes to abortion; values contribute a great amount to an individual s opinion. This process has led to numerous debates among individuals who believe that it is up to a woman to decide what to do with her body and the individuals who hold that women do not have the right to take away a life. Although it may seem as if the beliefs of pro life and pro choice advocates are on opposite sides of a spectrum, the two sides can come to an agreement about how to at least lessen the number of abortions occurring. Pro choice advocates debate that women should have independence in regards to what they choose to do with their own bodies. These advocates point to the Constitution to support their decision because in 1973 the landmark decision of Roe v. Wade established that a woman s right to abortion is protected by her constitutional right of privacy ( 30 Days: Pro Choice/ Pro Life ). This pertains to freedom of choice. It seems as though a pro choice supporter would argue that since the fetus is inside a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 8. Summary Between Lord Of The Glies And Lord Of The Flies Early man set up civilizations so future generations could live in peace and survive in their surroundings. As early man developed civilizations, they contained five characteristics. Three of the five are complex institutions, specialized workers, and record keeping. Complex institutions are organizations like government and religious organizations. Specialized workers are people like teachers, soldiers, and priests. Finally, cuneiform tablets were used in record keeping to keep track of rules and trade. The characters in Lord of the Flies mirror early man s development through complex institutions, specialized workers and record keeping. The boys in the novel Lord of the Flies mirror the development of early man through complex institutions when they appoint a chief. In the historical fiction novel, Clan of the Cave Bear, the text reads, the leader of the small clan... (Auel 12). In the Lord of the Flies, after being called to the beach by the conch, the boys vote for a chief to lead the mass of boys on the island similar to the early man leader portrayed in Clan of the Cave Bear (Golding 22). The connection between these texts demonstrates that the boys are going through the same development phase as early man did. In both Lord of the Flies, and Clan of the Cave Bear, there is a chief, and even more, a complex institution similar to a government. Phoenix Jackson Character Analysis As I previously analyzed Phoenix Jackson s character, I closely examined the external characteristics that her person consisted of, such as her behavior and physical attributes. In Saunders analysis of Phoenix Jackson, he deciphers her in great depth utilizing his extensive research of other works of literature and legends. He comes to the overall conclusion that Jackson is a characterthat can be dissected in nearly infinite ways depending on the dissector s point of view. In both of our analysis, we concentrated our focus on differing aspects of Phoenix Jackson that can be mutually supported and formulate another perspective of Phoenix Jackson. In my analysis, I elaborate on the characteristics of Phoenix Jackson that she exhibits physically that could act as key elements in determining what her true mentality is. • 11. Photoshop in Business and Society Businesses have countless applications for the computer software known as Photoshop. The software is such an integrated part of society that businesses and scholarly articles assume people have prior knowledge of what it is and what it does. Photoshop is defined by Oxford as trademarked digital image editing software to alter photographic images. It is an industry standard for digital graphics and has many applications to various businesses and media. Lev Manovich wrote in Inside Photoshop that to count up the number of options in Photoshop and then count all the options each option subsequently contains, that the total number of options the software allows for would be in the thousands. Professionals in media, education, research, and many businesses utilize the software. However, there is controversy surrounding the use of Photoshop in advertisements that edited models to unrealistic levels, because of the impact those images have on society. Nonetheless, Photoshop is widely used and has revolutionized business and integrated into many industries not limited to media or photography. Photoshop has a brief history since it has only been around for almost three decades. At the end of the 1980s, it was beginning to be developed as a way of procrastination by Thomas Knoll, a University of Michigan graduate student and doctoral candidate in computer vision. • 12. Characteristics Of Family Relationships A famous poet Joseph Brodsky once said, Cherish your human connections: your relationships with friends and family. I am Milagro Falcon my sisters opposite, my mothers follower, and my friends deepest supporter. A relationship can constitute many things not just a romantic relationship. As a young adult I still have not had a romantic relationship with someone yet that does not mean I do not have other relationships. I do have a certain relationship with my familyand friends thus my relationship personality and relationship personality traits differ. There are various theories and terms that can explain the characteristics of a relationship. An example would be friendship love which is love based on common concerns and interests, companionship, and respect for the partner s personality and character. As a young adult social learning theory has shaped my mom s views into my own leading to sibling rivalry bringing more flavor to the family, also my relationship with my friends has spurred as altruistic love. What is social learning theory and how has it shaped my relationships? Social learning theory as described in the book Intimate Relationships, Marriages, and Families by Nick Stinnett states it is a theory that suggests behaving in relationships by modeling their parents behaviors and attitudes. To me it means the way a person s parents acted in a relationship thus the child mirrors in later relationships. My mother has taught me the basics like do not eat my buggers and eat with my mouth closed everything parents basically teach a child. Nevertheless, the core values I learned from her relationship with my father is to be independent, and communication is key. I did not have a male figure in my life till I was six years old. At that age I started to see what a family is like and the foundation of one. I quickly saw the difference from when it was just my mother and I. Before seeing my mom in a relationship, I had already seen the sense of independence and it just moved along in the relationship. My mother did not go to school, but she never depended on a man. Even when she was with my step dad she was still independent making her money and doing her owns things while still being in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Nadsat In A Clockwork Orange One of the first things that captures a reader s attention as they re reading Anthony Burgess novel, A Clockwork Orange, is the argot, also known as nadsat in the novel, which presents the idea that language can shape reader s thoughts. This is depicted by the language techniques such as descriptive language and slang (nadsat). The nadsat, which the main character and narrator, Alex, and his friends in violence, or droogs as they call themselves, speak throughout the novel shields the readers of the gory and brutal violence that is really being done to people. The way the author describes the attacks, or as Alex calls ultraviolence , using the artificial language works because all of the time the readers are reading, they have to be think about what words such as yarbles (testicles), glazzies (eyes), and oozy (chain) mean, and so this creates a delay in the readers minds in registering what is actually happening to the people Alex and his friends are attacking.... The claim of the article is explicit because it clearly and directly shows the topic which is the increase of hot car deaths, the explanations, and the recommendations for the problem. Her father then was arrested and charged with negligent homicide because he was too careless in taking care of his daughter. This reminds people of a similar case in Atlanta two years ago. Twenty two month old Cooper Harris died after being left in the sweltering back seat of a car in June 2014 while his father, Justin Ross Harris, was at work. What seemed like a tragic accident took a shocking turn when, three months later, a Georgia grand jury indicted Harris on charges of murder. Kate Carr, president and CEO of Safe Kids Worldwide, said The Harris case was one of 30 children who died in 2014 after being left in parked cars... At least 44 children died in 2013. Alexander Plutarch s Influence On Alexander The Great Best known for his writings of leading figures in antiquity and his essays on ethics and virtue, Plutarch s biography on Alexander the Great and his vision would influence tremendously upon future western writers in regard to the interpretation of Alexander the Great. Plutarch s Alexander s fortune and virtue claimed that Alexander s aim for his empire was homonoia, the unity of mankind and fusion between civilizations. According to Plutarch, Alexander rejected the traditional Greek view that Persian were barbarians, and instead proclaimed that Alexander was intentionally trying to establish a sense of oneness throughout his empire. The plastic grass that was painted four times a year, the artificial trees that were programmed to grow five centimetres a year. They were all fake. They cannot photosynthesize and transpire nor can they produce oxygen and absorb carbon dioxide. This showed the advancement in technology of this world but it was reflected no more than a decaying city to Madeline. Secondly, self centred was just one of the many few adjectives that Madeline used to describe her race. Kampong spirit and helping out one another in need? It was all but a fantasy. Reality was much harsher. Humans of today are too preoccupied with getting the latest technology and looking good to notice what is going on around them. Madeline found humans no better than automatons programmed to wake up, work, eat and sleep. They are hollow shells with no heart to feel and this was the thing that Madeline hated the most. Humans have no feelings. They pursue pleasures without knowing what it was. They have no compassion, no empathy, especially so when treating animals. Madeline got to her main point. She never undergone cosmetic surgeries and treatment because of a very simple reason because animals were part of this; because of the horrible ordeal that animals are put through for people to produce such technology for human use. • 17. How Breaking Bad Is Created By Vince Gilligan Essay In this essay, I will analyse the TV show, Breaking Bad which is created by Vince Gilligan, in relation to the theory of narrative. I will be basing this essay on the first episode of Breaking Bad and also the TV show as a whole. We will learn to what extent Breaking Bad reflects conventional narrative structure. First the essay will identify what conventional narrativestructure is. I will then analyse how Breaking Bad reflects the different parts that make up narrative structure, including, the three act structure and characterroles. I will then determine what is different about Breaking Bad and what parts of it do not conform to conventional narrative structure. I will be discovering how the use of conventional narrative structure effects how the audience views the text. Narrative structure is about both the content of a story, and how the story is told by using plot. There are different things that made up the narrative structure of a text. These include, the three act structure and the roles of the characters. The three act structure is a model that is used in screenwriting to divide a narrative into different parts (Cod.edu, 2015). The first act of a three act structure is called setup. This is where setting, character, and their situations are introduced to the audience. The second act is when something big happens so that there are major changes in the characters life. Act three is when the problems and changes in the characters life are resolved (Writerswrite.com, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Well as David Platt put it in his book Radicle, We are settling for a Christianity that revolves around catering to ourselves when the central message of Christianity is actually about abandoning ourselves. Basically, David Platt was kindly beating around the bush about us as an American culture, his book Radicle being strictly about American Christian culture, being lukewarm in our faith, relationship and devotion to Christ in the way we live. In Revelation 3:16, So, because you are lukewarm neither hot nor cold I am about to spit you out of my mouth. Harsh? Mary Arguelles essay, Money for Morality discusses the confusion of morals and motivation that many authoritative figures provide for their children as noted, It seems the role models our children look up to these days in this case, teachers are more confused and misguided about values than their young charges (50). Arguelles is saying that society s adult figures are more morally confused than the children they are supposed to be teaching; misdirecting their own guidance and therefore confusing the children they are supposed to be teaching. Children are not only being taught to receive praise for any and all accomplishments, but they now expect it, as well as a reward. A set of distorted expectations and morals is being taught to this new generation, developing a sense of entitlement in them. Instead of giving a child a household chore and letting them take pride in their work, many parents are giving them money as a reward. This is a way of teaching a child that they should be rewarded monetarily or materialistically for a job that they should really already be expected to do. This has created a pathway for many young adults whom have become accustomed to these rewards to become bitter or rude when they are given tasks without monetary incentive. In a society comprised of confused narcissists and morals only guided by incentives, we have thrown manners and morality out of the window. As the children of the narcissistic generation mature, they become the young adults that we encounter today, holding fast to their unattainable expectations of subservient adults and trivial rewards. Culture collides when one of these young adults encounters an older individual, creating a situation where both parties are offended, as each are not receiving the respect they believe is ... Paying close attention to the emotions of a character and their actions can allow for more comprehension. The use of characterization within the story Hills Like White Elephants aids the reader to further understand the persona of an individual. In return, this allows the reader to understand them on a deeper level with a powerful connection. Without characterization, it would be difficult for the individual reading to form a bond with the man and the girl because they wouldn t truly understand what they re going through. In Hills Like White Elephants , by Ernest Hemingway, the American s dialogue, the way the girl converses and where their eyes wander give insight on how the man and the girl have communication difficulties. Throughout the story, it s made evident through dialogue that the man has a strong need to assert his dominance which damages his relationship with the girl. Firstly, the man appears to have total control within their relationship, even with uncomplicated factors. When they order drinks, the man says, Let s drink beer. , and he simply orders them following this statement. The girl can easily make this straightforward decision herself, but the man feels the need to take complete control. • 30. An Analytical Comparison Of Men s And Women s Literature An Analytical Comparison of Men s and Women s Literature in Enlightenment Era Britain Suppression of thought and action has always been a method for one people to govern over another. When we think of suppression we typically think of slavery; the physical governance of one group over another. However, throughout history, other forms of suppression have dominated cultures, such as that of inequality. An example of this in today s world would be the job market for women. Though it has undoubtedly improved through the years, a man with equal credentials to that of a womantends to obtain a job much more easily. This is a form of suppression through inequality by men upon women. If a woman cannot obtain a high paying job equal or better to that of a man, she may need to be dependent on a man for financial means. Britain women during the beginning years of the Enlightenment period experienced suppression of their education. Literature of the 17th and 18th centuries in Britain was characterized by raillery of both men towards women and, increasingly, women towards men fighting the educational suppression and inequality that would lead to modern feminism. Like all major movements, such as the civil rights movement of the 1960s, Feminism had its birth somewhere. Feminism began with women authors such as Mary Astell, Margaret Cavendish, Aphra Behn, and Mary Leapor (Sherman 2125). One of the most attractive parts of Irish culture is the local pub. The pub has always been known as a place to get together, meet friends, and begin romantic relationships. Tourists from all over the world flood to Dublin during Saint Patrick s Day to walk the famed O Connell Street just to involve themselves in the binge drinking tradition and pay a visit to the famed pubs so well known in Irish culture. The pub tradition is just as prominent in Scottish and English culture. Underage drinking is a normal occurrence and widely accepted in these cultures. Germany has a long history of ... • 40. Identify And Explain The Factors That Cause Changes In... The three factors that caused Galetown to have more severe rainstrorms this summer than in previous years are stronger winds, higher temperature and the new lake. First of all, stronger winds push the air parcels (An amount of air that moves as a unit) higher up in the troposphere. The higher the air parcel is in the troposphere, the colder it is. This will cause a greater energy transfer from the parcel to the surrounding air allowing them to become the same temperature and having condensation occurs. This will soon fall out as rain. In the chart, it tells us that in storms 3 and 4 that all factors are the same before the storm such as the surface water (high) and the temperatures are close enough to not make a significant difference. But the wind... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the air parcel rises in the troposphere, the more energy transfer. The reason why the energy transfers is because the water vapor must have an equivalent temp to the surrounding air. More energy causes it to have more evaporation transferring more water vapor to the surrounding air. As the energy transfer occurs, the water vapor gets through condensation and turns to liquid water. The higher the parcel gets, the colder it is in the surrounding air which causes the water to condense and come out as rain. This is important because when the temperature of the air parcel is higher, it will rise higher in the troposphere and the higher the cloud is in the troposphere, the more rain that will fall. Also, the modeling tool tells us that storms 2 and 3 had all the same factors ( water vapor, troposphere temperature and surface water) but, the parcel temperature, was higher in storm 3 which caused it to have more rain. Lastly, the reason why the weather has been acting up is the new lake. The lake is causing more evaporation (the process by which a liquid changes into a gas). This is important because the more evaporation there is, the more condensation (the process by which a gas changes into a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since my chosen paper was a research paper, I looked for the sections in a research paper that included the abstract, introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, and references. This helped me decide what needed to be in each section so I could elaborate on if it was included or was not. The main factors that affect the resistance in a conductor are: В· Length В· Temperature В· Cross sectional area В· Material В· Magnetism The factor that we are going to change is the cross sectional area. Hypothesis: I think that the higher the cross sectional area, the lower the resistance in the conductor will be. This is because the Resistance in a metal conductor happens because as the electrons move through the material (once a voltage has been applied) they collide with the atoms in the material and as a result lose some of their energy. We found that 3 volts was a good voltage because the current not too high or too low to get a good resistance. We also did some preliminary work to see if there is a difference weather the two wires are apart from each other or constantly touching each other at all parts, all the time. Our preliminary findings were that it makes no difference. Since it made no difference, we decided to keep them separated so we don t have to twist the wires around each other.
