Euthanasia: A Moral Dilemma
In a brightly lit, cold white room, Dr. Jesse is discussing the extent of the life threatening disease
that a patient, Mark, has. Mark has a chance of survival, but only for about two torturous months
where he will have to separate himself from his normal life and engage in chemotherapy every
day. When first hearing about his situation, Mark immediately decides that plowing through two
painful months is not worth his time or effort, and he wishes to end his life on a positive note
without wearing down his body since he will have to depart sooner or later anyways. Now when
confronted with Mark s decision, Dr. Jesse freezes and rationalizes with his beliefs to try and
figure out the morally correct resolution to this problem. Like Mark, many other ill patients ask for
life termination to relieve themselves from suffering and many other doctors, like Dr. Jesse, are
also placed in this position where they must choose to either follow the patients requests, or to try
and keep the patient living despite their wishes. Who has the power to make this decision about
ending a patient s life, and to what extent? A terminally ill patient has the right to request the act of
euthanasia as long as he or she is deemed as consciously aware.
According to the online Princeton Wordnetweb dictionary, consciousnessis an alert cognitive state
in which you are aware of yourself and your situation

The Consequences Of The Philadelphia Experiment
The Philadelphia Experiment during World War II to believers is a highly technical experiment
that took place in the Philadelphia Navy yard in 1943. This experiment was also called, Project
Rainbow, and is said to consist of the U.S. Navy destroyer called the USS Eldridge being made
invisible then teleported to Norfolk Docks four hundred miles away then teleported back. This
theory also supports the idea that when the ship got back to Philadelphia there were fatal
consequences for the crew on deck. This was in attempts to counteract German u boats as they
had a major advantage over U.S. warships the warships are slow and have large turning radius. A
man by the name of Morris Ketchum Jessup received notes from Carlos Allende (Carl Allen) in a
copy of Jessup s book, The Case for the UFO. These notes outlined what Allende thought of Jessup
s ideas in the book, Allende actual disproved one idea, but this sparked Jessup s attention. Soon
Jessup moved on to researching Einstein s unified field theory, he published this research. Allende
soon responded in a series letters to Jessup describing the Philadelphia Experimentin much detail.
This lead Jessup to research further into this possibility, obtaining more and more information
Jessup was very close to a breakthrough. While Jessup s and Allende s agreement has some
backing, it is a far out view that is hard to believe as there is evidence to rebuttal the points made.
The other side of the story is backed by the United

The Importance Of QuinceaГ±eras In Latin America
In modern society one of the most important aspects of one s life is crossing the threshold into
adulthood. So at what age, or perhaps at what stage of life, is adulthood granted? Depending on
the culture it could be decided by marriage, age, military service, or even religion. Some cultures
will have a coming of age party to celebrate becoming adult. A few of the more popular events that
you may have attended unknowingly in the past are bat mitzvahs, bar mitzvahs, and
QuinceaГ±eras. In Jewish communities men and woman are considered adults on their thirteenth
birthday, commonly known as a bar and bat mitzvah. Many families in Latin America or of Latin
American descent will have a party most commonly referred to as a QuinceaГ±era for their
daughter s fifteenth birthday to celebrate her... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In many African countries adolescents are isolated from their families, friends, and towns for up to
a couple months. In this time they are mentored to the ways of their society and are welcomed
back as a man. Another journey is highlighted in the movie 300. They discuss the transformation
from child to man in the ancient Greece nation state of Sparta. Boys would be taken from their
families at the age of seven to enter the Agoge system from which they not only emerged as fierce
warriors, but as adults. Some countries determine adulthood by the minimum age requirement for
child labor. Unfortunately the minimum age varies among countries. In countries such as Syria or
Bangladesh the minimum age requirement for child labor is twelve. However, in the United States
it is 15 16 years old but they must have written consent from their parents. Another popular theory
for being considered an adult is the legal voting age. In most countries the legal age is 18,
including the United States. In Italy, however, you cannot vote for a senator until age

Moving To The City Research Paper
Where one grows up affects their lifestyle and character; one s surroundings shape his or her
outlook on the world. Many people always say when growing up in the city one will be
accustomed to a diverse, hasty going, and exhilarating life; while growing up in the country one
will be accustomed to a deliberate, steady, and bucolic life. Although moving to Mississippi was a
dramatic alteration, I explicitly acknowledge the menaces death, robberies, and fights encountered
growing up in the city. Therefore, moving to the south was a better alternative involving my
physical well being, regardless of the many emotional struggles. Moving down south to Mississippi
from Illinois showed me the struggles of coping with racism and prejudice people, the mental
conflicts... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My associates and I lived in one expanse where we could simply saunter to each other s house.
Malls, theaters, and restaurants encircled us; everything was neighboring each other. Traveling
from one place to another was easy because of the short distances and different means of
transportation such as riding metropolitan trains or walking. Although the city had its
advantages, it also had its detriments to people s lives; the city was a precarious place! Living
in the city, I was relentlessly hearing about deaths and delinquencies. Growing up in the city, I
was petrified for my family and uncertain about their welfare. Going down south was a dramatic
change in my life. I left behind my friends and most of my family. My means of life were swiftly
altering; no longer was I living a fast paced life. I began to feel confined in a rule area, encased
within dirt roads, miles of land, and a million trees. Restaurants and stores were over a half an hour
away; there was not anywhere to socialize and loiter with friends. My life was so divergent in the
country compared to the city! I could now assimilate into the new environment that contrasted my

The Renaissance Period
The argument being put forward in this dissertation is that the Renaissance in Europe, with specific
emphasis on Italy, during the 15th Century, was the most influential period in developing the early
modern human society. Many believe that this was due to its almost perfect location between
Western Europe and the Eastern shore of the Mediterranean. By analysing various factors and
sources, as well as different aspects of society, for example political factors and the views of
contemporary texts, it will provide enlightening insight into the changes made during the
Renaissanceperiod and how these changes are still reverberating. I believe that this question is an
important one to study and to answer correctly and accurately because it means that we can trance
back the origins of our society today and how it has evolved from, arguably, a more primitive one
in terms of breakthroughs and technology.
First of all, it is important to understand what the Renaissance period was all about and what it
encumbered. The Renaissance period (French: Rebirth ) is a progressive cultural movement that
lasted for roughly 3 centuries, from the 14th to the 17th (roughly 1330 1600), and is often referred
to as the bridge between the Middle Ages and a Modern Era (*1). The Rebirth of a society,
specifically Italy, was recognition of the past but also that it was separate from the present in terms
of belief or ideology for example. This meant that a transitional phase occurred as past

Human Development Reflection
The birth and growth of mankind are magical. During these eight weeks study, I found the huge
interest in lifespan human development. This course taught me the roots of human beings. Until
now, I realized how human was born, and I also learn a lot about human development and
possible diseases in each period. Besides, I learned the research process. They are really wonderful
knowledge and helpful to me!
The three thing I interested is research methods, the collaborative gene, and prenatal development.
First of all. I learned research methods from the video lecture. That is the first time I ve heard
about a detailed explanation of research methods. I was really interested in it because it is very
important for us. The higher education level we are, the more research we need to do. As what I
ve learned, research has seven methods. The first step called: defining the problem . That means
at the really first time when we do research, we should know what we want to know via this
research. We need to come up some research question in our mind. The second step called:
reviewing the literature . In this step, we should read some previous studies which are related to
our topic. The literature must be trustable, and for journals, peer review is the better choice. The
third step called: forming a hypothesis . This step tells us after we are familiar with the previous
research, maybe we can form a hypothesis in our mind. Actually, I have a little question about
this step. Is this hypothesis based on the gap in the previous? The fourth step is choosing a
research design. This is a step that organizes our research method. We need to think about who is
the participants, when and how well we collect data. The fifth step is collecting the data. This
step is kind of do your research plan what you prepared in the fourth step. There are many ways
we can choose to collect data. Such as questionnaires, online survey etc. Next step is analyzing the
data. This step is kind of tell the readers our research results. For here, we should determine if our
hypothesis was true, false, or inconclusive. Also how the result similar to your thought. The final
step is drawing conclusions. I think this is the most important part because you

The Brief Wondrous Life Of Oscar Wao Character Analysis
A motif? Well, what might that be? A motif is a like a reoccurring image or symbol that comes
up more than once in a story. It will disappear and then suddenly just appear again. In, The Brief
Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, written by Junot Diaz, we are introduced to a particular motif, the
mongoose. A mongoose is an animal that is natively from southern Eurasia and the mainland of
Africa. The mongoose comes into the story only as needed. When situations tend to get awkward
or aren t going anywhere, the mongoose comes into play. The writer uses the mongoose as a
magical type of creature. Throughout the novel, we are exposed to a variety of dilemmas in which
the mongoose seems to be a standing factor. It is evident that the mongoose acts as a guardian...

This is years after Beli had her interaction with the mongoose, related to Trujillo s men. Oscar is
planning to kill himself by jumping off of the New Brunswick Bridge. As he is about to do this,
he thinks about all the things that he will miss out on, if he died right then and there. Regretting
all the books he would never write. Maybe he was trying to get himself to reconsider. (190)
However, it wasn t true. He saw the train coming and he closed his eyes, as he was about to jump
off. But he didn t do that either. As he opened his eyes, he saw something. What was it? The
golden mongoose. It was very placid, very beautiful. Gold limned eyes that reached through you,
not much in judgment or reproach but for something far scarier. (190) Yunior described it as
something that Oscar has never seen before. They started at each other it serene as a Buddhist, he
in total disbelief and then the whistle blew again and his eyes snapped open (or closed) and it was
gone. (190) Oscar saw the mongoose and realized that he was there to help him snap out of this
mode of suicidal attempt. Yunior says that Oscar has always wanted something like this to happen
to him, something magical yet mysterious. Again, the golden mongoose was there to help these
characters in situations where they are going through rough things and need someone one there to

The Army Of The United States
The movement from a drafted to an all volunteer force has proven to provide the Army of the
United States with some of its most impressive Soldiers. Whether Soldiers desire to join the
military for the pay, job security or answering the call to serve their country, these desires have
become increasingly obsolete in today s Army because of budget cuts. The Army will begin to lose
quality Soldiers due to continued pay cuts to militarypay, basic allowance for housing and changes
to retirement plans. On March 2014, presented to Congress was a 495.6 billion dollar budget for
the Department of Defense (DOD). This newly presented budget is a 400 million dollar cut from
the previous fiscal year (FY) (October 1, 2014). This budget will create a smaller; yet, agile force
that can still rapidly support the United Statesof America at any time. The budget will stand for
continued advancements in protection and applied research to help ensure future competitive
advantages for the United States of America. With that said, where would the 400 million dollar
DOD budget cuts be made? According to the United States Department of Defense Budget
Request of Fiscal Year 2015 (DOD BR15) (2014), in order to continue to build a readily available
force to support the country s needs, budget cuts are needed and will be made at the expense of
the Soldiers. Military Soldiers and families are set to suffer additional pay decreases due to the
ongoing budget cuts from Capital Hill. First

legislative acts which effectively rescinded Massachusetts Bay Colony s rights of self government
and caused the other colonies to rally behind Massachusetts. In late 1774, the Patriots set up their
own alternative government to better coordinate their resistance efforts against Great Britain; other
colonists preferred to remain aligned to the British Crown and were known as Loyalists or Tories.

Plane Personal Narrative
Ever since I was in junior high school I have been fixated on remote control planes and small
unmanned aerial vehicles. The interest ironically started out from a toy helicopter crash
combined with my curiosity, igniting a life long passion that eventually became my singular
fixation and my ticket into the future. I built and crashed my first few planes before I joined a
local group of hobbyists who were involved with the Tipton County Radio Control Club. They
brought me to the top of an old, filled in landfill, now covered in lush, green grass that swayed
with the slightest breeze blowing through the leaves of the surrounding trees. The designated flying
field was at the highest point of the landfill. With well manicured fields still fresh with the scent of
freshly mown grass, it stood in stark contrast... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of them offered to help me learn to fly by trying their planes, and through them I built up
the courage to fly my more fragile planes. On that day I had my first successful flights with my
Nieuport 17 biplane, a World War I plane that took me nearly three weeks to complete. After
landing the plane, I began to talk to the other pilots and learned the meaning behind the often
repeated phrase fly, crash, repeat. I built more planes and several months later started a new
project, a small drone that could be flown for short distances using a camera. Its four powerful
blades flew very well during the maiden flight until I had to repeat the phrase fly, crash, repeat in
a disappointed voice as my battle with gravity and the ground was lost. I retrieved my craft and
began the repair process, delaying the project by two more months. The next flight was more
successful as it flew faster and responded quicker than before. I knew it wouldn t crash from a
mechanical failure

Similarities Between Islam And Christianity
With regards to the religions of Islam and Christianity, it is imperative to recognize that these two
practices account for some of the largest followings in the history of modern civilization. With that
being said, the links between Islam and Christianity can be astoundingly similar whilst also
offering key characteristics of difference. Although both emphasize certain ideals in differing
contexts, I d argue that it would be reprehensible not to recognize the power the devout followers
of both practices receive upon praying to their Godfrom above.
Islam is a Abrahamic monotheistic religion dating back to 610 CE Saudi Arabia, when the last and
final prophet Muhammad retrieved to a cave to pray and received revelations from God or ( Allah
Arabic word for God) through an angel by the name of Gabriel. These said revelations would
later be known as the beginning of the holy book the Quran . This event took place on Mount
Jabal An Nour, in a cave by the name of Hira. It is the world s second largest religion, and the
fastest growing religion. With over 1 billion followers in 50 countries worldwide (predominantly
countries in the Middle East) 24.1 % of the world s population.

Christianity. These ecclesiastical traditions have more or less authority based on the nature of the

Small Cap Diaphragm
In the recording session, listening to all the tracks, I chose two different microphones from the
MXL 800 series the large and the small caps diaphragm. Both microphones were condenser
microphones. Listening to both microphones at the track I discovered few interesting facts between
them. First, I mange to listen to the smaller cap both on the recorded hammer part of the pianoand
the recorded strings and I find that both microphone had different sound. For the small cap that was
recorded on the hammer of the piano sound decent yet it sounded little muddy. It sounded like
when it had an insert plug in of a chorus or modulation that when the key was stroked the sound
was aggressively vibrating, the piano s sustain was little aggressive Picturing if there was a lot of
sound waves combined together. Also it sounded as if the piano was played in a small room which
the sound sounded much tied. Next, the smaller cap on string recording, sounded much more
balanced. It sounded tied yet the every note on the piano sounded realistic. Moreover, the dynamic
range was wide enough that it was easy to listen to especially it had good amount of bass and
harmonics of the piano. The microphone sound more open rather than narrow sound like the
hammered one.

The microphones produced many important elements such as larger diaphragms records more
sound of highs and lows yet I learned it has a disadvantage if it records too much sound for example
on the strings of the piano, it can sound very muddy and bombarded with different frequencies.
Similarly with small caps on hammers can cause trouble when concentrates too much on one area
which it becomes a dominant sound overall of the recording. Furthermore, this I came to
acknowledge the fact that Microphones compliment the artist when it position

The word superstition can be defined as a belief in something that cannot be justified by fact or

inauspicious times, astrology and rituals to ward off evil or bring blessings. Superstition is a
worldwide phenomenon. However india in particular is home to several bizarre superstitions that

Throughout the world, many people play and compete in many different kinds of sports to meet

their team of sled dogs compete in a race where they are pitted up against nature, wildlife, and the

Review Of Tracy Kidder s Strength In What Remains
The book Strength In What Remains by Tracy Kidder, tells the journey of Deo, from his escape
from Hutu Tutsi genocide in the mid 1990s to the United States and back to Burundi. In his
journey, Deo struggle s against his memories of the genocide, he was faced with two different
ways of dealing with his memories, to forget or to remember. In the first half of the book, Deo
follows the Burundian concept of forgetting about the past, this is due unwillingness of victims to
recall and, thereby, relive the violence and pain of their recent history. But as he went through his
journey, he realizes that although he wants to forget his past tragedies, he was unable to do so. In
the second half of the book, Deo was able to seemingly embrace the Western... Show more content

Kidder observes Deo as he tours places of his past, Kidder felt that Deo have also come to
Burundi to revisit his past, and hopefully find a closure out of it. Kidder narrates on the two
sides of dealing with the past. He concedes that there is merit in following the notion of
gusimbura; he had seen people in Rwanda who cannot let go of their past and living aimlessly
because of it. One man named Emmanuel lost his family in the Hutu Tutsi violence, and he
refuses to move on from the tragedy. He decided to stay close to the memorial, so he can still
feel close to his family. You know, what I can tell you is that he s half alive, said Deo. This is a
guy who lost the trunk of his life. (242). Deo felt that Emmanuel was an example of what
happens if you dwelled too long in your memories, you became possessed by them, and is unable
to live in the present. On the other hand, Kidder felt that Deo s journey through his exodus and
memorials are a necessary part of the healing process. Although most people would stay away from
a place filled with horrible memories, Deo visited memorial after memorials. Kidder thought, After
a time, I came to think that visiting memorials was in pat a willed catharsis. And why wouldn t he
have need of that? (247). Through revisiting his past, Deo was convinced that he has to move on
from his past memories. He has dreams and goals that he wants to pursue, and living in the past

Visual Pleasure And Narrative Cinema
From an issue that was discussed in class, we discussed about the gaze. In Laura Mulvey s Visual
Pleasure and Narrative Cinema she discusses about scopophilia, which is the pleasure in looking
which also incorporates exhibitionism (pleasure in being looked at). This term also applies to
cinema. She focuses on the idea of the male gazein cinema, where films are created in favor of the
male audience. Thus the action of cinema compromises of women as image, man are bearer of
the look . Mulveys states that women in the film industry are catogarized on two levels, where
woman are seen as erotic objects for the characters within the film and also erotic objects for the
spectators of the film. She then moves on to criticize famed director Alfred Hitchcocks film Rear
Windowfor how he portrayed woman in the film. Alfred Hitchcock s movie correlates to Mulvey
s ideas which support her theories of scopophilia and voyeurism in cinema, she believed that the
film exploits the male gaze and how it antagonises woman in an anti feminism manner. In the film,
the main actor is restricted in his apartment due to his broken leg from his latest assigned project.
He spends most of his time watching his neighbours from his window and later comes to suspect
one of his neighbour murdering his bed ridden wife when we suddenly disappears from sight.
Hitchcock successfully implies voyeurism through main actor James Stewart s character in the film,

Human Impact On No2 And Company Comparison
Human Activity Impact on NO2 and CO Comparison
Lynn Dietrich
Virginia Aerospace Science and Technology Scholars
Abstract
Human activity can change the world incredibly fast. We have to monitor those changes the best we
can in order to understand any damage that is being done. We use satellites and specialized
instruments to monitor the changes in our atmosphere. The levels of pollution that humans are
responsible for has to be monitored so that any danger can be avoided. We have to study the
components of the atmosphere to understand what is harmful and what is not.
Human Activity Impact on NO2 and CO Comparison OMI, or Ozone Monitoring Instrument, is an
instrument that records ozone and other atmospheric parameters (Brill). OMI monitors ... Show

It is formed when hydrocarbon fuels are burned (Thompson). CO is mainly produced by industrial
processes, some fires, and internal combustion engines (Blakemore and Jennett, 2016). Like NO2,
the highest levels of carbon monoxide will be found in places with large cities and industries.
Carbon monoxide has local and global effects. High amounts are dangerous to people s health
locally. CO can be spread by winds throughout the troposphere, having a global effect (Ichoku).
Carbon monoxide is being studied to see its role in atmospheric chemistry and the ability of the
atmosphere to cleanse itself of harmful pollutants (Ichoku). Humans are the source of a huge
amount of pollution. Human activity has caused nitrogen dioxide levels to rise. This rise has
increased pollution levels and has hurt the atmosphere. Human activity has also caused carbon
monoxide levels to rise, but unlike NO2, carbon monoxide can easily be spread around the world by
wind. The spread of carbon monoxide has added to pollution and hurt the atmosphere. Human
activity can have a very drastic effect on our world in a relatively short amount of time. With the
help of satellites and monitoring instruments, we can see those effects and try to act on the data
before any major damage is done. As humans continue to pollute the environment, scientists
continue to monitor the constant changes in the atmosphere and other components to try and

Intersectional Feminism And Universal Sisterhood
One central misconception about feminism is that it only addresses the concerns of middle class
white women. There are numerous reasons why feminism interactions with a diverse population of

multiple interlocking systems of privilege and oppression at the macro, social structural level. It

Politics of location acknowledges that every woman is not from the same area, and therefore
experiences, cultures, and traditions differ due to how the girls and women were raised. By
recognizing politics of location, the feminist movement has initiated transnational feminism.
Transnational feminism seeks to commence, advance, and achieve equality for women. It enables
women to hear the oppressions, complications, and difficulties other women throughout the world
are experiencing. It further permits women to work together in ending the many injustices
occurring. The development of the concept of Universal Sisterhood aims to guide women in ending
injustices towards women. The notion of Universal Sisterhood aims to unite and solidify women
among all races, ethnicities, classes, sexual orientations, and religions. It is advocating for equality
while combating the prejudices. Although many women in the United States will not experience

Similarities Between Mengzi And Shuangzi
Mangzi and Zhuangzi, both very influential Asian philosophers, have very differing opinions on
how one should might respond in an adverse situation such as a child in danger or a parent dying.
While Mengzi believes that human nature is good and someone in either of these situations would
feel bad, Zhuangzi takes a different perspective in which he accepts life as it is and would not
respond in a negative way if confronted with these situations.
To understand how Mengzi believes a human responds in certain events such as a parent dying or a
baby in danger, it is crucial to understand his metaphor of Sprouts. Mengzi believes that humans
have internal innate capacities of benevolence, righteousness, wisdom and propriety which he refers

Zhuangzi employs the idea of perspective in his ideology. Exemplifying perspective through the
relativity of beauty, People say that Mao Qiang and Lady Li are beautiful. But if fish saw them
they would dive deep, if birds saw them they would fly high, and if deer saw them they would cut
and run (216). He points out that even if humans generally agree that she is a beautiful person,
animals do not have the same perspective of beauty that we do and may find her disgusting. He
links this to critique Mengzi s sprouts of virtue, saying that the sprouts of benevolence and
righteousness look at right and wrong objectively, while Zhuangzi believes that right and wrong
are relative to the perspective that you take. He believes that people who are perfected can shed
their perspective and see that there is no right or wrong, there just is, and once you can embrace it,
you can mount the clouds and mists, straddle the sun and moon, and roam beyond the four seas.
Death and life make no difference to them, how much less the sprouts of benefit and harm (217).
Embracing the subjectivity of perspective is liberating and allows one to view the world much

Examples Of Hyperbole In Romeo And Juliet
Mokokoma Mokhonoana once said, Love songs are nothing without exaggeration . Even though
Romeo and Juliet is not a love song, their love story is not the same without hyperbole. Hyperbolic
citations help to develop character because it quickly shows what characters are like based on the
things they say and do. In Romeo and Juliet, characters develop immensely throughout the play due
to hyperbole because of how it showcases the characters emotions and actions. Both Romeo and
Juliet s characters use hyperbole frequently and without it, their lovewould not be the same. In
William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet , hyperbole helps to develop the characters immaturity and
hasty decisions, by exaggerating their emotions and actions highlighting... Show more content on

After kissing Romeo for the first time, Juliet refers to Romeo as a saint, For saints have hands
that pilgrims hands do touch, and palm to palm is holy palmers kiss (I.V.99). By using a
hyperbole like that, Juliet is demonstrating how immature she is, because of how passionate she
considers their love to be in only a few minutes. Within the day of meeting Romeo, Juliet is
already saying that [her] bounty is as boundless as the sea, [her] love as deep [and] the more
[she] give[s] to thee, the more [she has] for both are infinite (II.II.133 135). A hyperbole as
dramatic as what Juliet describes her love for Romeo to be, explains how passionate and
dramatic Juliet is when it comes to her love for Romeo, making Juliet s character immature and
dramatic. It does so because she has only known him for a day and she is already saying that her
love for Romeo is infinite, whereas if she was more mature she may want to take her time and
get to know him first. Also, with knowing Romeo for less than a day Juliet asks [Romeo to]
propose marriage (II.II.144) and she says that she would follow [him], [her] lord throughout the
world (II.II.148) once again proving how dramatic and immature Juliet is. Comparing Romeo to a
lord, shows how Juliet feels about their love, she considers it to be very passionate and doesn t seem

Examples Of Thomas In The Movie Crash
The Sociology of Crash The Thomas Theorem is a sociological theorem developed in 1928 by W.I.
Thomas and D.S. Thomas that states, if men define situations as real, they are real in their
consequences. In other terms, how a person interprets the reality of a situation determines the
ramifications of the situation. There are several occurrences of the Thomas Theoremwithin the
movie Crash, most notably when Jean reacts in blind fear to the presence of Anthony and Peter,
when Daniel s daughter attempts to protect her father with her invisible cloak, and when Officer
Hansen shoots Peter. In the case of the carjacking of the Cabot s Lincoln Navigator, Anthony and

Love And Cholera Chapter Summary
1.What is the relationship between love and cholera in this chapter?
a.At the beginning of the chapter, Fermina and Dr. Urbino are part of a group riding in a hot air
balloon. The course of the trip flew them over the Trojas in Cataca, banana plantations, and the
Great Swamp before they landed in San Juan de la Cienaga. During the flight they had a clear
view of the devastating effects of cholera, as there were bodies strew in the streets of the villages
below. While observing these scenes, Fermina couldn t help but feel as though she had been there
before with her mother at a very young age. This is the first mention of Fermina s mother and it
seems clear that she misses her and loved her dearly. Fermina wished to return to her birthplace ...

All of the novel s protagonists are growing older and showing signs of age and none of them like
it. Dr. Urbino began noticing all of the symptoms that his older patients complain about, such as
insomnia and flare ups of pain, making an appearance in himself. When Dr. Urbino came to
retrieve Fermina from her cousin s, she feared that she looked so old and ugly...that he would
regret having come when he saw her like this (254). Florentino s increasing age is highlighted by
baldness that bothers him greatly and false teeth that don t faze him at all. Fermina has aged the
most because the affair and subsequent events took a huge toll on her. When she returns from
her second trip to San Juan de la Cienaga, Florentino notes that Fermina s hair was graying, her
eyes had lost some of their sparkle, and concluded that the last two years had been as hard on her
as ten difficult ones (256). The passage of time is noticeable in Dr. Urbino and Fermina thought

Narrative Essay About Batman
In times of crisis, I look for Batman. Batman has always been there to help me and all people who
are in need. Though he is interiorly fictional , Batman has impacted thousands of lives, Including
mine. These people he has entertained when they have read his stories. He has also inspired these
people to be good citizens.I first learned of Batmanwhen I watched his animated series as a child. I
remember that I was amazed by his black and gray costume. I also loved his villains, and his
gadgets. Hours of my childhood were spent watching Batmanin his many adventures. My memory
of Batman goes back so far that I cannot remember a time when I did not know who Batman
was. Now that I am an adult I wonder, Why does Batman appeal to me so much? Could it be his
costume. No, I find other super hero costume far superior. Do Batman s villains draw me to
Batman. The villain do entertain me, However, I do not find them as interesting as Batman. Then
why do I love Batman? The admiration I now have for Batman goes deeper than the superficial
aspects of the characters such as his costumes, gadget, or villains. What instigates my desire to
learn as much as I can about the character are his deeper core elements, such as His tragedy,
humanity, and morality.
The tragedy of Batman begins with the death of Bruce Wayne. Bruce Wayne was the son of the
wealthy Thomas and Martha Wayne. He had all he needed. However, when the Wayne s family
walked home from a visit to the movie theater one night,

Snow Falling On Cedars Symbolism
Tree, Fields, and a Storm Forbidden love, unity, and chance are just a few things Guterson uses
symbolism to portray throughout his book, Snow Falling on Cedars. A hollow cedar tree,

throughout this book. A hollow cedar tree represents forbidden love, secrecy, and lies. The
strawberry fields exemplify unity, hard work, and a brighter future. Finally the major snow storm

Social Cost Of Carbon Tax Analysis
The central question related to the carbon tax is how should the tax rate be designed, and one
most straightforward approach is to set the price of emission per ton equals to the social cost of
carbon per ton, which represents the social incremental damage of emissions. Such a Pigovian
tax is ideally an economically efficient way as it would lead to the socially optimal level of
emissions where marginal benefits of emission equal to the marginal costs (Kaplow, 2012 as cited
in Metcalf, 2017). However, estimating the social cost of carbon is complicated because the cost
represents the present value of expected environmental damages caused by one additional unit of
emissions today, while the damages persist far in the future. To accurately measure... Show more

almost all of them have specified all taxable carbon substance sold by the manufacturer, producer,
or importer of the substances as the coverage of the tax. Most of them have specified emission
targets as to reduce the U.S. carbon dioxide emissions 80% below levels of some given year by
2050, with different starting tax rates ranging from $10 to $20 per ton of CO2 and different annual
increasing rates. Some acts suggest the Treasury as the regulatory authority, and some suggest the

The Workplace Conditions And Safety Climate Related...
The workplace conditions and safety climate related programmes, especially in emerging
industrial countries, are remained poorly neglected (Bosak, Coetsee, Cullinane, 2013) . For
instance, Indonesia as an emerging country has three major issues regarding safety climate,
including labour market, security and quality of the working environment issues, such as poorly
paid salary and wages, long working hours, accidents, etc. (OECD, 2014). In fact, Jamsostek
(2013) reports that work accidents in Indonesia has been increasing to one point seventy six
percent per year (p.82). For example, in 2013 there were 103.285 accidents or 283 accidents per
day with a total claim of 563.44b rupiah or equivalent to US$ 56.344m (Jamsostek, 2013, p. 110)....

Accordingly, employee s safety issue is not only related to physical factor but also psychological
factors. Hence, it may argue that working environments may relate to psychological safety of the
employees (Law, Dollard, Tuckey, Dormann, 2011). Furthermore, several authors have argued
that psychological safety of the employees may have an impact on other factors, such as
employee s efficacy (Al Refaie, 2013; Chen Chen, 2014; Christian, Bradley, Wallace, Burke,
2009) and performance (Baer Frese, 2003; A. Carmeli Gittell, 2009; Edmondson, 1999). For
example, when an employee has got unsafe condition at work psychologically, it will affect his

The Advertisement Of The Nike Advertisement Essay
In today s time we come across a vast amount of advertising using various forms such as outdoor
billboards, print advertisements, TV commercials and online advertisements. Advertising is a very
common means of getting customers to see one s message, brand and product. However, it is
apparent that advertising is intentionally deceptive in the sense that it tries to prey on one s
weaknesses as a human being. For example, beer commercials constantly use sex appeal with
attractive women to charm men and perfume commercials use the idea that their product will bring
women the love that they have so long desired. Likewise in the Nike advertisement featuring
Serena Williams, the advertisers use vivid visual elements to convey the idea that Nike products
will make the consumer popular, athletic, beautiful, skilled, talented, hardworking and ultimately
successful. This definition of Nike is achieved through the use of the famous athlete, the words of
the ad, her facial expression, her stance and the background scenery. One effective element in this
ad is the genius use of Serena Williams. The use of her conveys popularity, success, skilled and
beauty. She is perhaps the most famous tennisplayer amongst men and women. She is one who
can actually say ball is life. Amazingly, Serena has been a professional tennis player since the age
of 14. She is currently 33 years old, which means she has been playing tennis longer than she hasn t

Romanticism In Young Goodman Brown
Dependent Humans People tend to put their faith and hopes on other people, and they let them
down, hurt them emotionally. Emotions fluctuate and one cannot help but be upset or be enraged,
this is what the Romanticism Movement fueled itself on. Human emotion, nature, religion, and
love are all factors of Romanticism. Romantic characteristics can be found in literature and are
expressed by people throughout the Romantic Era from how they considered human potential and
personality more valuable than reason. When reading Young Goodman Brownby Nathaniel
Hawthorne, someone can identify and understand the ideas of Romanticism and the influence the
idea had on American literature from how they focus on a person s beliefs and inner struggles.
This story relates to Romanticism from how the story shows Goodman Brown s love and care
for Faith, how evil is within every human being, and how Goodman Brown loses his faith in all
goodness of humanity when he sees Faith turn over to the dark side at the Devil s ceremony.
Love is shown in Hawthorne s story by how Goodman Brown loves and cares about Faith. When
the Devil is trying to persuade Goodman Brown to follow him to the ceremony, Goodman
Brown uses his love for Faith as a reason of why he must not go. Goodman Brown tells the Devil
that There is my wife, Faith. It would break her dear little heart; and I d rather break my own
(Hawthorne p.24). This was sadly not enough to keep him from going to the ceremony, for he later

Essay On Physical Contact
Physical Contact in the Arab World vs. the West
Bayader Al Ghamdi
Effat University
Junior Year
GSEM 200
Introduction: Physical contact is a form of communication that requires no verbal communication
or writing in order to be understood although it may differ from one country and culture to another.
Body language is considered to be a silent form of communications that succeeds to deliver an idea
or a message. Most of the time, hand gestures and physical contact are known to be more effective
than words. The most important thing in communication is hearing what is not said. (Peter
Durocher, 1967, p2). Such as, a wide smile on a child s face can say more than a thousand words
could ever say. Thus, there are many forms of nonverbal communications that touch the deep sense
of humanity. Physical interaction is one of the most essential factors of human communication.
Generally, it is considered as a strong form of communication. The human body is the best picture
of the human soul , Ludwig Wittgenstein. Physical contact can help an individual gain another
person s trust over a short period of time. However, it is still a complex topic because it differs
from one culture to another. Each culture has its own traditions and ideologies. Furthermore, in
some culture, certain forms of physical contact are considered forbidden, offensive or taboo. This

Decision support systems assist managers who must make decisions that are not highly structured,
often called unstructured or semi structured decisions. A decision is considered unstructured if
there are no clear procedures for making the decision and if not all the factors to be considered in
the decision can be readily identified in advance. Judgement of the manager plays a vital role in
decision making where the problem is not structured. The decision support system supports, but
does not replace, judgement of manager.
4. Office Automation Systems
Office automation systems are among the newest and most rapidly expanding computer based
information systems. They are being developed with the hopes and expectations that they will
increase the efficiency and productivity of office workers typists, secretaries, administrative
assistants, staff professionals, managers and the like. Many organisations have taken the First step
toward automating their offices. Often this step involves the use of word processing equipment to
facilitate the typing, storing, revising and printing of textual materials. Another development is a
computer based communications system such as electronic mail which allows people to
communicate in an electronic mode through computer terminals. An office automation system can
be described as a multi function, integrated computer based system that allows many office
activities to be performed in an electronic mode.

Miller puts on Willy s back is almost unbearable for a person. His kids are back and living with
him, his job has gone down the drain and on top of that he is going slightly crazy. Willy talks to
himself, and with the help and support of his wife we soon begin to realize that Willy and his wife
Linda are co dependent. The Loman family can be classified as a co dependant and even as a
dysfunctional family.
Willy may be losing his mind with talking to himself and basically living in his own realistic
flashbacks, but even as his mind deteriorates piece by piece his wife will continue to help him
and love him. As Willy describes his experience of him not remembering how he was driving and
telling about how he kept swerving off the road Linda attempts to comfort him and tells him Oh.
Maybe it was the steering again (Miller, 3). This is an example of the codependency that Linda

Coffee Is A Supply Of Money
Introduction
A resource is a supply of money, material, staff or other things of value (assets or commodities)
that can be readily drawn upon when needed or used to produce wealth. Coffee is cultivated in
over 70 countries, however is most effectively grown in the equatorial regions of the world such
as The Americas, Africa, Southeast Asia and India. It can in some cases be grown in subtropical
regions as well. Coffee is a resource that is grown on bushes (therefore being a renewable
resource), varying on value depending on its quality and type (two most common types being
Arabica and Barista). Secondly only to oil coffee is the second most valuable legally traded
commodity in the world. Roughly 54% of Americans and 42% of Australians are... Show more

There is an Ethiopian legend which says coffee was discovered by a goat herder which noticed
his goats frolicking, full of energy after consuming the small red fruits from the coffee shrub.
The herder tried the fruits and had a similar reaction. Before coffee became the morning
beverage we know it as today it had many different forms of which it was consumed. From a
wine like beverage too just eating the fruit as it was found. The Arabians started the roasted
coffee phenomenon we know today way back in the 13th Century. By parching or boiling the
coffee beans the Arabs were able to corner the market on coffee crops. In fact this was so
affective it is believed not a single coffee plant existed outside Arabia or Africa until the 1600 s.
Fertile beans were smuggled out by an Indian pilgrim aboard a string across his abdomen. This
started the European coffee trade; however the Europeans couldn t grow the plant in their home
countries so they planted elsewhere. The Spanish planted in Central America, the Portuguese in
Brazil and The French in the Caribbean and the Dutch (first to open a coffee estate in 1616) in Sri
Lanka.

The resource is found as a little red fruit or cherry on a shrub (picture below). Coffee comes from
two different climates, one being the equatorial regions and the other being the subtropical regions.

Leadership in 12 Angry Men
In the film 12 Angry Men, a group of twelve jurors are deciding the fate of a young boy accused
of murdering his father. Throughout the juries dilleration, one man exhibits all of the qualities of
leadership. This man is juror number 8 played by Henry Fonda. Fonda not only exhibits the the 10
qualities of a leader but he uses these qualities to lead the entire juryto a vote of not guilty (Fonda
Lumet, 1957).
Early on in the film Fonda shows the first quality of leadership vision. Vision can be defined as the
leaders ability to know what is needed and how what is needed can be achieved (book). In the case
of 12 Angry Men, Henry Fonda has a vision that he and the other jurors have the responsibility to
consider the facts in the case ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For Fonda the entire film is him doing just that. Being that Fonda what the only one at the
beginning to vote not guilty, he used his enthusiasm to bring the rest of the jurors over to his way
of think. A good example of this is how he convinced juror number 9 (the old man) that there
could be doubt in the witness that was an older gentleman like he was. By showing juror 9 that
there were flaws in the evidence and the witnesses he was able to gain another follower. His
enthusiasm for getting the ruling right is what drove him to be able to make this happen time and
time again with every juror (Fonda Lumet, 1957).
Next we are introduced to Fonda s leadership quality of Stability. Stability is the quality of a
leader to discern emotions from fact and keep personal beliefs separate from the task at hand
(book). In the film we see this when Fonda discerns that racism of another juror is not acceptable.
He says to juror 6 that it s always difficult to keep personal prejudice out of a thing like this
(Fonda Lumet, 1957). In this statement he is showing his own abilities to discern what prejudice is
and how he is trying to keep it from influencing his decisions.
The fifth quality of leadership expressed by Fonda in the film was that of Concern for Others. In
this quality of leadership the leader values those they lead as fellow human beings and not just as
those that are there to serve (book). The whole premise behind the film directly

Odd Couples By Anna Muraco
In Odd Couples, Anna Muraco interviews intersectional friendships between gay men and straight
women as well as straight men and lesbian women. The author is an Assistant Professor of
Sociology at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. Muraco is careful to incorporate
gender, sexual preferences, and age each time she mentions interviewees. Most of the intersectional
friendships involve a gay man and straight woman; however, she makes a great effort to interview
friendships between a straight man and lesbian woman, though sometimes these friendships may be
difficult to find. The author aims to challenge two large assumptions. The first assumption she
confronts is that men and women are fundamentally different. The second assumption is... Show

She then identifies the importance of friendships in general and how these bonds are formed. There
is discussion of same sex, heterosexual friendships and same sex, same orientation friendships.
These topics were the precursor of delving into the discussion of intersectional friendships and how
Muraco conducted this study. According to the author, intersectional friendships challenge a variety
of social norms. Previous research shows that straight people who are in contact with gay men and
lesbians have a favorable attitude towards them; this favorable attitude is meant as in acceptance,
not tolerance. Furthermore, most of the dyad friendships interviewed were very close friends, if not
best friends. In multiple cases, the gay man was often incorporated into the straight woman s family.
The straight women offer to be a surrogate mother before they themselves are married and trying for
children of her own. On the contrary, Muraco further explains the stereotype that all gay couples
want children. Another way that these friendships are beneficial to the individual is that they
provide great financial support for each other, which is usually a familial function. The media tends
to depict these intersectional friendships generally as gay men and straight women that are the best
of friends who go shopping and clubbing together. Though this gender norm was common within
the study, there are still other friendships that are regularly overlooked. The

Organizations use different ways to relay their messages to the populations they serve. One of the
most effective and simplified way to relay their message is through vision, mission and value
statements. Although two organizations can serve the same demographic, the key messages given
can be similar or very different. By examining the City of Calgaryand the Calgary PoliceService s

One of the principal connections noted however, is that both draw attention to the diverse
populations that resides in Calgary. The City of Calgary talks about a

represent that diversity and that officers treat members of the public without discrimination. A
disconnect that was noticed between the two organizations is that the City of Calgary listed
statistics and future projections in its vision statement, whereas the Calgary Police Service did
not. It would appear that the City of Calgary vision statement is regularly updated to reflect this.
The mission statements are geared towards each individual organization. The City of Calgary
talks about dependability and trust when providing a public service, whereas the Calgary Police
Service talks about it s role as a policing service. There is a connection however;

The Republic Of Plato s Republic
Plato s Republic Plato aims to show from book 1 that justice has intrinsic value to itself, that it
gives one a more satisfying pursuit of life. In book I, he retorts Thrasymachus account that justice
is the advantage of the stronger. Initially this makes sense that if justice were defined by state law,
then the entirety of nations, differing in laws, would be unified by the principle of rule by force, in
which the strong create the law. They would do so to suit their own specific needs. Inherent to this
argument is the presumption that the ruler s control of education will leave the citizens unable to
determine the ultimate goal of the state law and assume that it is to uphold their own needs society.
This would leave the Socrates elenchus useless. But despite this Socrates examines the definition of
a ruler and concludes it to correspond with the care of his subjects, and Thrasymachus agrees. From
this springboard, only by refutation, does Socrates get Thrasymachus to admit, that inherent to
justicemust be order, wisdom and virtue. The clear and consistent direction of argument reveals
Platos presuppositions on the subject, and namely that it is valuable and virtuous in its self. In Book
II, justice is examined from a different point of view. Socrates and Glaucon construct a masterful
argument in which justice is merely a compromise in men. That, according to his nature, man is
completely inclined towards injustice, and that being just would not be

Expense of the Iran-Iraq War
Costing up to $1,000,000,000 monthly and possible over $300,000,000,000 in material terms
(Swearingen, 1988) over the course of the conflict, the Iran Iraq War was at face value, an attempt
by Iraq to compel Iran to recognize Iraq s territorial rights and to renegotiate the 1975 treaty.
Initially, Iraqseemed to have either no clearly formulated strategic goals or had fallen short of
them the first reaction one would have when hearing that Iraq called for a cease fire 6 days in and
issued a set of demands which included a renegotiation of the treaty, return of the islands to the
UAE and the non participation and non interaction of Iranwithin the Gulf community.
Most see Iraq coming out of the war as more powerful in absolute power terms but not in relation
to the rising power of its neighbours (Parasiliti, 2003, p. 160). According to Parasilati (2003)
Iraq s reliance on its economic strategic rents the billions of loans and grants given by the West
and other Arab Gulf states undercut its power relative to its neighbours. Even though it may seem
like Iraq hadn t lost territorially, its bid for power failed and dropped it deeper into debt. In
addition, the only positive aspect of the war was the slight increase in the national pride amongst
Iraqis but none of the important geopolitical issues were addressed.
There was no change in the 1975 agreement over the Shatt al Arab waterway (Bahadori, 2005, p.
3) nor was Iraq the pre dominant power in the Gulf.

that may make the Hype Night more successful. When it comes to Power Hour, everyone enjoys
being covered in beer, but no one enjoys the clean up afterwards especially the staff of Cafe

Family means nobody gets left behind (or forgotten). I came to McGill University from a high
school environment that was not particularly inclusive, but frosh taught me how to further involve
my peers to have an even better experience. Whenever one is in a group setting, it is important to
make sure everyone feels welcomed without damaging the social structure of the current group
context. In other words, it isn t right to let one person in attendance sit out and feel unwelcome, but
it is also not very fair to divert attention away from other people just to attend to the newcomer.
Inclusivity means effective integration, not special attention. I believe the best way to positively
incorporate these values would be to make the concept of inclusivity more available to the
participants. Chants and subjection to drinking are only fun if the person wants to participate in
that particular event. Inclusivity during science events is easy (especially in regards to alcohol) if
everyone recognizes the opt in environment, i.e. alcohol is an opt in activity, not one you have to

The Supreme Court Of Canada Decision Essay
Introduction You have asked me to summarize the Supreme Court of Canada decision in DorГ©
v Barreau du QuГ©bec, 2012 SCC 12, SCR 395 and analyze whether the Law society is likely to
sanction Evan Frank. Although the Rules of Professional Conduct place limitations on certain
conduct to ensure professionalism, the expressive rights of lawyers must be given due respect
and the likelihood of Mr. Frank s sanction will depend on a fair balance of expressive value of the
content in the letter, with the public s expectation of professionalism. Case summary: DorГ© v
Barreau du QuГ©bec During a criminal proceeding where the appellant, Mr. DorГ© was the
defence council in the Superior court of Quebec, he was subject to personal attacks by Justice
Boilard. Taking offence from the personal attacks, he wrote a letter to the judge, which included
attacks on the judge s professionalism, social skills, and shaming him as a judge. (DorГ©, at
Para. 10) A complaint was filed against Mr. DorГ©, by the Syndic du Barreau for violation of
article 2.03 of the Code of ethics of advocates, R.R.Q. 1981, c. B 1, r.1, and oath of office. The
article stated that the conduct of an advocate must bear the stamp of objectivity, moderation and
dignity (Para. 13) which the judicial council concluded that Mr. DorГ© violated. The Judicial
council, rejecting Mr. Dore s claim that the letter was private, concluded that Judge Boilard s
conduct did not justify the content in letter. (DorГ©, at para.16) The issue before

Success Of Friend Z s A Regional Based Coffee House
The success of Friend Z s, a regional based coffee house in the United States, is in its tenth year
of business. The small business venture, which began as a cooperative college project, has grown
into one of the best coffee houses on the college scene. Friend Z s success has sparked the interest
of its partners to take their small businessto the next level by expanding into the global market.

international business will increase their client base with every new opening. They are not
restricted by location or tied a region with failing economics. Therefore, opening Friend Z s to the
option of an online market. Friend Z s will be able to rise as a stronger competitor in the coffee

Implementing Fixed Patient For Nurse Ratios
Implementing Fixed Patient to Nurse Ratios in High Volume High Acuity Settings
Striving for excellent patient care is the cornerstone of nursing. However, delivery of innovative
care requires nurses to take initiative in finding issues and concerns in current clinical practices to
promote change that leads to optimal patient outcomes. One current issue in clinical practice is the
varying patient to nurse ratios (PNRs) amongst different hospitals (Aiken et al., 2012). Having
high PNRs may lead to nurse burnout, medical errors, and ineffective nursing care (Aiken et al.,
2012; Karavasiliadou Athanasakis, 2014). The solution would be to regulate PNRs, especially in
areas such as the emergency room. To initiate this change, a task force would have to be established
to use current data and research as evidence to propose the change, implement the change and
evaluate its effectiveness.
Change Model Overview
The Johns Hopkins Nursing Evidence Based Practice (JHNEBP) process can be used to
facilitate change. This process serves as a guideline to access, combine, and implement research
into nursing practice. According to Dearholt and Dang (2012), the JHNEBP is an 18 step process
that occurs in three phases. Phase one of the JHNEBP contains steps 1 through 5 and can be
summarized as the practice question phase where the issue is identified (Dearholt Dang, 2012).
Phase two is the evidence phase containing steps 6 through 10 and is where search for evidence
pertaining to the issue

  • 2. Euthanasi A Moral Dilemma Shubhpreet Janda Prof. Anthony Fraser English Comp 1 May 5, 2015 Euthanasia: A Moral Dilemma In a brightly lit, cold white room, Dr. Jesse is discussing the extent of the life threatening disease that a patient, Mark, has. Mark has a chance of survival, but only for about two torturous months where he will have to separate himself from his normal life and engage in chemotherapy every day. When first hearing about his situation, Mark immediately decides that plowing through two painful months is not worth his time or effort, and he wishes to end his life on a positive note without wearing down his body since he will have to depart sooner or later anyways. Now when confronted with Mark s decision, Dr. Jesse freezes and rationalizes with his beliefs to try and figure out the morally correct resolution to this problem. Like Mark, many other ill patients ask for life termination to relieve themselves from suffering and many other doctors, like Dr. Jesse, are also placed in this position where they must choose to either follow the patients requests, or to try and keep the patient living despite their wishes. Who has the power to make this decision about ending a patient s life, and to what extent? A terminally ill patient has the right to request the act of euthanasia as long as he or she is deemed as consciously aware. According to the online Princeton Wordnetweb dictionary, consciousnessis an alert cognitive state in which you are aware of yourself and your situation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Consequences Of The Philadelphia Experiment The Philadelphia Experiment during World War II to believers is a highly technical experiment that took place in the Philadelphia Navy yard in 1943. This experiment was also called, Project Rainbow, and is said to consist of the U.S. Navy destroyer called the USS Eldridge being made invisible then teleported to Norfolk Docks four hundred miles away then teleported back. This theory also supports the idea that when the ship got back to Philadelphia there were fatal consequences for the crew on deck. This was in attempts to counteract German u boats as they had a major advantage over U.S. warships the warships are slow and have large turning radius. A man by the name of Morris Ketchum Jessup received notes from Carlos Allende (Carl Allen) in a copy of Jessup s book, The Case for the UFO. These notes outlined what Allende thought of Jessup s ideas in the book, Allende actual disproved one idea, but this sparked Jessup s attention. Soon Jessup moved on to researching Einstein s unified field theory, he published this research. Allende soon responded in a series letters to Jessup describing the Philadelphia Experimentin much detail. This lead Jessup to research further into this possibility, obtaining more and more information Jessup was very close to a breakthrough. While Jessup s and Allende s agreement has some backing, it is a far out view that is hard to believe as there is evidence to rebuttal the points made. The other side of the story is backed by the United ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Importance Of QuinceaГ±eras In Latin America In modern society one of the most important aspects of one s life is crossing the threshold into adulthood. So at what age, or perhaps at what stage of life, is adulthood granted? Depending on the culture it could be decided by marriage, age, military service, or even religion. Some cultures will have a coming of age party to celebrate becoming adult. A few of the more popular events that you may have attended unknowingly in the past are bat mitzvahs, bar mitzvahs, and QuinceaГ±eras. In Jewish communities men and woman are considered adults on their thirteenth birthday, commonly known as a bar and bat mitzvah. Many families in Latin America or of Latin American descent will have a party most commonly referred to as a QuinceaГ±era for their daughter s fifteenth birthday to celebrate her... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In many African countries adolescents are isolated from their families, friends, and towns for up to a couple months. In this time they are mentored to the ways of their society and are welcomed back as a man. Another journey is highlighted in the movie 300. They discuss the transformation from child to man in the ancient Greece nation state of Sparta. Boys would be taken from their families at the age of seven to enter the Agoge system from which they not only emerged as fierce warriors, but as adults. Some countries determine adulthood by the minimum age requirement for child labor. Unfortunately the minimum age varies among countries. In countries such as Syria or Bangladesh the minimum age requirement for child labor is twelve. However, in the United States it is 15 16 years old but they must have written consent from their parents. Another popular theory for being considered an adult is the legal voting age. In most countries the legal age is 18, including the United States. In Italy, however, you cannot vote for a senator until age ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Moving To The City Research Paper Where one grows up affects their lifestyle and character; one s surroundings shape his or her outlook on the world. Many people always say when growing up in the city one will be accustomed to a diverse, hasty going, and exhilarating life; while growing up in the country one will be accustomed to a deliberate, steady, and bucolic life. Although moving to Mississippi was a dramatic alteration, I explicitly acknowledge the menaces death, robberies, and fights encountered growing up in the city. Therefore, moving to the south was a better alternative involving my physical well being, regardless of the many emotional struggles. Moving down south to Mississippi from Illinois showed me the struggles of coping with racism and prejudice people, the mental conflicts... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My associates and I lived in one expanse where we could simply saunter to each other s house. Malls, theaters, and restaurants encircled us; everything was neighboring each other. Traveling from one place to another was easy because of the short distances and different means of transportation such as riding metropolitan trains or walking. Although the city had its advantages, it also had its detriments to people s lives; the city was a precarious place! Living in the city, I was relentlessly hearing about deaths and delinquencies. Growing up in the city, I was petrified for my family and uncertain about their welfare. Going down south was a dramatic change in my life. I left behind my friends and most of my family. My means of life were swiftly altering; no longer was I living a fast paced life. I began to feel confined in a rule area, encased within dirt roads, miles of land, and a million trees. Restaurants and stores were over a half an hour away; there was not anywhere to socialize and loiter with friends. My life was so divergent in the country compared to the city! I could now assimilate into the new environment that contrasted my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Renaissance Period The argument being put forward in this dissertation is that the Renaissance in Europe, with specific emphasis on Italy, during the 15th Century, was the most influential period in developing the early modern human society. Many believe that this was due to its almost perfect location between Western Europe and the Eastern shore of the Mediterranean. By analysing various factors and sources, as well as different aspects of society, for example political factors and the views of contemporary texts, it will provide enlightening insight into the changes made during the Renaissanceperiod and how these changes are still reverberating. I believe that this question is an important one to study and to answer correctly and accurately because it means that we can trance back the origins of our society today and how it has evolved from, arguably, a more primitive one in terms of breakthroughs and technology. First of all, it is important to understand what the Renaissance period was all about and what it encumbered. The Renaissance period (French: Rebirth ) is a progressive cultural movement that lasted for roughly 3 centuries, from the 14th to the 17th (roughly 1330 1600), and is often referred to as the bridge between the Middle Ages and a Modern Era (*1). The Rebirth of a society, specifically Italy, was recognition of the past but also that it was separate from the present in terms of belief or ideology for example. This meant that a transitional phase occurred as past ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Human Development Reflection The birth and growth of mankind are magical. During these eight weeks study, I found the huge interest in lifespan human development. This course taught me the roots of human beings. Until now, I realized how human was born, and I also learn a lot about human development and possible diseases in each period. Besides, I learned the research process. They are really wonderful knowledge and helpful to me! The three thing I interested is research methods, the collaborative gene, and prenatal development. First of all. I learned research methods from the video lecture. That is the first time I ve heard about a detailed explanation of research methods. I was really interested in it because it is very important for us. The higher education level we are, the more research we need to do. As what I ve learned, research has seven methods. The first step called: defining the problem . That means at the really first time when we do research, we should know what we want to know via this research. We need to come up some research question in our mind. The second step called: reviewing the literature . In this step, we should read some previous studies which are related to our topic. The literature must be trustable, and for journals, peer review is the better choice. The third step called: forming a hypothesis . This step tells us after we are familiar with the previous research, maybe we can form a hypothesis in our mind. Actually, I have a little question about this step. Is this hypothesis based on the gap in the previous? The fourth step is choosing a research design. This is a step that organizes our research method. We need to think about who is the participants, when and how well we collect data. The fifth step is collecting the data. This step is kind of do your research plan what you prepared in the fourth step. There are many ways we can choose to collect data. Such as questionnaires, online survey etc. Next step is analyzing the data. This step is kind of tell the readers our research results. For here, we should determine if our hypothesis was true, false, or inconclusive. Also how the result similar to your thought. The final step is drawing conclusions. I think this is the most important part because you ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Brief Wondrous Life Of Oscar Wao Character Analysis A motif? Well, what might that be? A motif is a like a reoccurring image or symbol that comes up more than once in a story. It will disappear and then suddenly just appear again. In, The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, written by Junot Diaz, we are introduced to a particular motif, the mongoose. A mongoose is an animal that is natively from southern Eurasia and the mainland of Africa. The mongoose comes into the story only as needed. When situations tend to get awkward or aren t going anywhere, the mongoose comes into play. The writer uses the mongoose as a magical type of creature. Throughout the novel, we are exposed to a variety of dilemmas in which the mongoose seems to be a standing factor. It is evident that the mongoose acts as a guardian... Oscar is planning to kill himself by jumping off of the New Brunswick Bridge. As he is about to do this, he thinks about all the things that he will miss out on, if he died right then and there. Regretting all the books he would never write. Maybe he was trying to get himself to reconsider. (190) However, it wasn t true. He saw the train coming and he closed his eyes, as he was about to jump off. But he didn t do that either. As he opened his eyes, he saw something. What was it? The golden mongoose. It was very placid, very beautiful. Gold limned eyes that reached through you, not much in judgment or reproach but for something far scarier. (190) Yunior described it as something that Oscar has never seen before. They started at each other it serene as a Buddhist, he in total disbelief and then the whistle blew again and his eyes snapped open (or closed) and it was gone. (190) Oscar saw the mongoose and realized that he was there to help him snap out of this mode of suicidal attempt. Yunior says that Oscar has always wanted something like this to happen to him, something magical yet mysterious. Again, the golden mongoose was there to help these characters in situations where they are going through rough things and need someone one there to tell them opposite, like a good ... • 9. The Army Of The United States The movement from a drafted to an all volunteer force has proven to provide the Army of the United States with some of its most impressive Soldiers. Whether Soldiers desire to join the military for the pay, job security or answering the call to serve their country, these desires have become increasingly obsolete in today s Army because of budget cuts. The Army will begin to lose quality Soldiers due to continued pay cuts to militarypay, basic allowance for housing and changes to retirement plans. On March 2014, presented to Congress was a 495.6 billion dollar budget for the Department of Defense (DOD). This newly presented budget is a 400 million dollar cut from the previous fiscal year (FY) (October 1, 2014). This budget will create a smaller; yet, agile force that can still rapidly support the United Statesof America at any time. The budget will stand for continued advancements in protection and applied research to help ensure future competitive advantages for the United States of America. With that said, where would the 400 million dollar DOD budget cuts be made? According to the United States Department of Defense Budget Request of Fiscal Year 2015 (DOD BR15) (2014), in order to continue to build a readily available force to support the country s needs, budget cuts are needed and will be made at the expense of the Soldiers. Dbq Loyalist Case Study Summary of Facts The British responded by closing Boston Harbor, then followed with a series of legislative acts which effectively rescinded Massachusetts Bay Colony s rights of self government and caused the other colonies to rally behind Massachusetts. • 11. Plane Personal Narrative Ever since I was in junior high school I have been fixated on remote control planes and small unmanned aerial vehicles. The interest ironically started out from a toy helicopter crash combined with my curiosity, igniting a life long passion that eventually became my singular fixation and my ticket into the future. I built and crashed my first few planes before I joined a local group of hobbyists who were involved with the Tipton County Radio Control Club. They brought me to the top of an old, filled in landfill, now covered in lush, green grass that swayed with the slightest breeze blowing through the leaves of the surrounding trees. The designated flying field was at the highest point of the landfill. With well manicured fields still fresh with the scent of freshly mown grass, it stood in stark contrast... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of them offered to help me learn to fly by trying their planes, and through them I built up the courage to fly my more fragile planes. On that day I had my first successful flights with my Nieuport 17 biplane, a World War I plane that took me nearly three weeks to complete. After landing the plane, I began to talk to the other pilots and learned the meaning behind the often repeated phrase fly, crash, repeat. I built more planes and several months later started a new project, a small drone that could be flown for short distances using a camera. Its four powerful blades flew very well during the maiden flight until I had to repeat the phrase fly, crash, repeat in a disappointed voice as my battle with gravity and the ground was lost. I retrieved my craft and began the repair process, delaying the project by two more months. The next flight was more successful as it flew faster and responded quicker than before. I knew it wouldn t crash from a mechanical failure ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Similarities Between Islam And Christianity With regards to the religions of Islam and Christianity, it is imperative to recognize that these two practices account for some of the largest followings in the history of modern civilization. With that being said, the links between Islam and Christianity can be astoundingly similar whilst also offering key characteristics of difference. Although both emphasize certain ideals in differing contexts, I d argue that it would be reprehensible not to recognize the power the devout followers of both practices receive upon praying to their Godfrom above. Islam is a Abrahamic monotheistic religion dating back to 610 CE Saudi Arabia, when the last and final prophet Muhammad retrieved to a cave to pray and received revelations from God or ( Allah Arabic word for God) through an angel by the name of Gabriel. These said revelations would later be known as the beginning of the holy book the Quran . This event took place on Mount Jabal An Nour, in a cave by the name of Hira. It is the world s second largest religion, and the fastest growing religion. With over 1 billion followers in 50 countries worldwide (predominantly countries in the Middle East) 24.1 % of the world s population. B. Both microphones were condenser microphones. Listening to both microphones at the track I discovered few interesting facts between them. First, I mange to listen to the smaller cap both on the recorded hammer part of the pianoand the recorded strings and I find that both microphone had different sound. For the small cap that was recorded on the hammer of the piano sound decent yet it sounded little muddy. It sounded like when it had an insert plug in of a chorus or modulation that when the key was stroked the sound was aggressively vibrating, the piano s sustain was little aggressive Picturing if there was a lot of sound waves combined together. Also it sounded as if the piano was played in a small room which the sound sounded much tied. Next, the smaller cap on string recording, sounded much more balanced. It sounded tied yet the every note on the piano sounded realistic. Moreover, the dynamic range was wide enough that it was easy to listen to especially it had good amount of bass and harmonics of the piano. For example, beer commercials constantly use sex appeal with attractive women to charm men and perfume commercials use the idea that their product will bring women the love that they have so long desired. By showing juror 9 that there were flaws in the evidence and the witnesses he was able to gain another follower. His enthusiasm for getting the ruling right is what drove him to be able to make this happen time and time again with every juror (Fonda Lumet, 1957). Next we are introduced to Fonda s leadership quality of Stability. Stability is the quality of a leader to discern emotions from fact and keep personal beliefs separate from the task at hand (book). In the film we see this when Fonda discerns that racism of another juror is not acceptable. He says to juror 6 that it s always difficult to keep personal prejudice out of a thing like this (Fonda Lumet, 1957). In this statement he is showing his own abilities to discern what prejudice is and how he is trying to keep it from influencing his decisions. There is discussion of same sex, heterosexual friendships and same sex, same orientation friendships. These topics were the precursor of delving into the discussion of intersectional friendships and how Muraco conducted this study. According to the author, intersectional friendships challenge a variety of social norms. Previous research shows that straight people who are in contact with gay men and lesbians have a favorable attitude towards them; this favorable attitude is meant as in acceptance, not tolerance. Furthermore, most of the dyad friendships interviewed were very close friends, if not best friends. In multiple cases, the gay man was often incorporated into the straight woman s family. The straight women offer to be a surrogate mother before they themselves are married and trying for children of her own. On the contrary, Muraco further explains the stereotype that all gay couples want children. Another way that these friendships are beneficial to the individual is that they provide great financial support for each other, which is usually a familial function. The media tends to depict these intersectional friendships generally as gay men and straight women that are the best of friends who go shopping and clubbing together. • 49. The Republic Of Plato s Republic Plato s Republic Plato aims to show from book 1 that justice has intrinsic value to itself, that it gives one a more satisfying pursuit of life. In book I, he retorts Thrasymachus account that justice is the advantage of the stronger. Initially this makes sense that if justice were defined by state law, then the entirety of nations, differing in laws, would be unified by the principle of rule by force, in which the strong create the law. They would do so to suit their own specific needs. Inherent to this argument is the presumption that the ruler s control of education will leave the citizens unable to determine the ultimate goal of the state law and assume that it is to uphold their own needs society. This would leave the Socrates elenchus useless. But despite this Socrates examines the definition of a ruler and concludes it to correspond with the care of his subjects, and Thrasymachus agrees. From this springboard, only by refutation, does Socrates get Thrasymachus to admit, that inherent to justicemust be order, wisdom and virtue. The clear and consistent direction of argument reveals Platos presuppositions on the subject, and namely that it is valuable and virtuous in its self. In Book II, justice is examined from a different point of view. Socrates and Glaucon construct a masterful argument in which justice is merely a compromise in men. • 55. Implementing Fixed Patient For Nurse Ratios Implementing Fixed Patient to Nurse Ratios in High Volume High Acuity Settings Striving for excellent patient care is the cornerstone of nursing. However, delivery of innovative care requires nurses to take initiative in finding issues and concerns in current clinical practices to promote change that leads to optimal patient outcomes. One current issue in clinical practice is the varying patient to nurse ratios (PNRs) amongst different hospitals (Aiken et al., 2012). Having high PNRs may lead to nurse burnout, medical errors, and ineffective nursing care (Aiken et al., 2012; Karavasiliadou Athanasakis, 2014). The solution would be to regulate PNRs, especially in areas such as the emergency room. Phase one of the JHNEBP contains steps 1 through 5 and can be summarized as the practice question phase where the issue is identified (Dearholt Dang, 2012). Phase two is the evidence phase containing steps 6 through 10 and is where search for evidence pertaining to the issue ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
