ANOVA, ANCOVA, MANOVA, and MANCOVA are statistical analyses used to test differences between groups. ANOVA tests for differences between 2 or more means and partitions variances into sums of squares between and within groups. ANCOVA controls for additional factors, called covariates, to reduce error and increase power. MANOVA assesses the effect of independent variables on multiple dependent variables simultaneously, accounting for correlation between variables. It tests for overall differences using a multivariate F value. Univariate follow-ups can then examine differences on each individual dependent variable.
