Immunity is the body's ability to resist infection. There are three main types of immunity: innate immunity which everyone is born with; adaptive immunity which develops when exposed to diseases; and passive immunity which is temporary and borrowed from another source like antibodies from a mother. Adaptive immunity involves lymphocytes and develops as a person is exposed to diseases or vaccinated. Innate immunity provides non-specific protection to entire species or races while adaptive immunity provides specific protection to species and individuals.
