This document analyzes and applies the capacitive transformer circuit. It begins with derivations of the equivalent input impedance, conductance and capacitance of the capacitive transformer. It then presents two examples: 1) Using the derivations to design an RF matching network to transform a 50 ohm load to 5k ohms. Values of C1 and C2 are calculated. 2) Designing a grounded-base Colpitts oscillator at 1kHz, identifying the capacitive transformer action and calculating values for C1 and C2.
