Incorporating Technology Into Grade Level Performance...
In, an attempt to improve the integration of available technology, educators and policymakers are
reevaluating ways to incorporate technology into the grade level performance standards without
separating the two educational standards (Collins Halverson, 2009). Presently, students and teachers
have the ability to transmit information through third and fourth generation technological resources;
yet, few take advantage of the endless educational possibilities (Francis Mishra, 2008; Marino,
Sameshima, Beecher, 2009; Koehler Mishra, 2006; Sharples, 2007; Su Luan Teo, 2009). According to
Francis and Mishra (2008), classroom teachers will need to be knowledgeable of the security of
information stored or transmitted through accessible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In spite of teachers negative attitudes towards changes and/ or technophobia, as the world changes, so
must the classrooms, teachers, and delivery of knowledge to students (Hall, 2010; Su Luan Teo 2009;
Ursavas Karal, 2009; Prensky, 2008). Not addressing teachers negative attitudes will invariably lead to
continued challenges with incorporating classroom technology, especially with those teachers who
focus lessons on memorization or note taking. Typically, in many American classrooms, teachers can
be seen using the same traditional methodologies used a century or more ago with change resistant
teachers instructing students seated in straight rows within the classroom (Sharples, 2007; Overbay,
Patterson, Grable, 2009; Su Luan Teo 2009). On the other hand, researchers suggested that teaching in
that manner should also include active learning where students take part in the instructional process
(Strasser, 2006; Ryu Parsons, 2009). Clearly, based on research there is an effectual demand for
teachers to focus lessons on learning ways to learn or research, by using technology to promote active
learning and build students technological skills (Ara, 2009; Prensky, 2008; Ryu Parsons, 2009). This
research will add to the body of literature of prior theoretical studies of classroom technology usage
and Technology attitude scale (TAS) through assessing teacher s technology perspectives relationship

Lies In The United States
Cheating, lying and breaking promises is what we Americans are used to hearing and seeing from
what we see on the TV or hear on the news. How can we have an honest workflow, when big
companies are stealing from others and lying just to make more money without anyone knowing?
How can we trust in the government, when they lie about many things from us and feel the need to
keep secrets from us? From my viewpoint, I believe that we live in a world where cheating, and lying
is normal because everything we look or hear on the news, TV, and celebrities are fake, are being
someone there not, or making us want to follow their trend. News are always putting lies in between
the truth, just to make the stories more interesting. So, what can we believe ... Show more content on

Kids that cheat know that cheating is bad but tend to not care of the consequences that are attached to
cheating. They believe that if they don t get caught then they got away with cheating or lying. I agree
with the statement that says cheaters in high school will most likely cheat on their spouse. because if
they are used to cheating and then most likely it will follow them into their relationships in the future.
As they have created a horrible habit of lying and cheating to themselves and others, it will be hard to
break the habit and tell the truth to

Bullying In The Real World
Imagine that you are in school, walking down the hallway and see a bunch of guys bullying and
harassing another kid. Do you go defend the kid or do you stay a bystander like all the other people
you are surrounded by? Most kids just walk by thinking that if they don t stop it they re preventing
bullying, but it s just making the problem worse. People need to how to speak up from bullies, and
how to speak up for others who are being bullied. A reason why bullying still happens is because the
person who gets bullied doesn t tell anyone because they are too scared about what the bully would do
to them if the find out, or they think that they cannot get help from anyone else. The bullies think it
will make them popular or they do it to make them feel superior to other students. Another reason it
still happens is because people who witness bullying happening never tell anyone they re just by
standers. In the age of technology a new form of bullying has arisen, cyberbullying, where people can
bully other and keep their identities a secret. They do it either for fun or many of the main reasons
why people bully in the real world do it. Bullies don t think about the negative effects that can happen
on a person being bullied. Victims to bullying can get anxiety, depression, have lowered ... Show more

There are different ways you can speak up you can tell the bully to stop and confront them, but it can
lead to more negative consequences if the bully is bigger and stronger than you. Another way of
speaking up is to tell an adult: like your parents, guardians, teachers, or principals. It is the safer route
to take if you want to tell someone. The victims need to know that people will help them and that there
is a way out of this. It is also important to tell a person immediately after you get bullied, so it doesn t
become a recurring thing and become more and more afraid of the

Explore How the Character of Prospero Develops in the...
Prospero is the most central character in Shakespeare s The Tempest . The play revolves around his
personal task to regain his dukedom, which his brother Antonio usurped from him. Throughout the
play it is shown how Prospero develops and changes as a character and seems a different person to the
character we first meet in Act One Scene Two. How Prospero s character develops happens in a
variety of ways, one of the most potent ways appearing to be the treatment of the other characters
within the play. Prospero s character is introduced into the play in Act One Scene Two, after the
tempest has shipwrecked Antonio and Alonso s ship. We firstly come to realise that Prospero and
Miranda are looking down upon the tempest and so the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is easy to see this by the way that Prospero speaks to him using sub human terms such as Thou
poisonous slave (4) and him being called a fish (5).
Yet as Prospero s character develops, he appears to become less vengeful. Caliban as a sub (or non)
human has no rights at all. Furthermore, he was part of a murder plot to kill Prospero so it would not
be unusual for the audience to expect Prospero to use his power to get rid of Caliban. Yet in the final
act of the scene of the play, Caliban says:
Ay, that I will; and I ll be wise hereafter
And seek for grace. (6)
Caliban here repents and agrees to seek grace and is simply allowed to go and live on the Island. This
does not mirror the actions of Prospero at the beginning and throughout the play. He seems to play the
role of the cruel sorcerer using his powers to gain control over people and scare them. Yet his action
towards Caliban in Act Five seems unlike the character that he has been throughout the play.
How he treats Caliban does mirror how he is treats the rest of the characters in the final scene. He does
not seem to punish any of the characters, even his brother Antonio. It appears to me that once he has
completed the task he wanted to complete and so is able to become Duke of Milan once again he is a
more compassionate person. He lets the other characters go free from their punishments. The only
characters who seem to be punished are Trinculo and Stephano but they are

Jim Hawkins brings the map to Dr. Livesey and the adventure sparks. The squire, Trelawney, is sent to
find a boat and a crew that will help travel to the island. He promises to keep the secret to himself, but
both men know that that will not happen. After a few days, Hawkins and the doctor is sent to the area
where the squire is to meet the crew. As soon as Hawkins walks into the tavern that he is told to go to,
he spots Black Dog again. He runs out of the place before Hawkins is able to do anything, but he

administrators is in the understanding that the time that it takes for the patient to visit a healthcare
facility is critical. The complication is that many of the symptoms associated to this illness can be
confused with a number of other conditions early on. The complication associated to RMSF diagnosis

Birth Of Moses
Individual understanding and enactment of scripture have been manipulated and developed over the
years in order to align with present times. Critical analysis has affected the reading of the scripture
story, The Birth of Moses, in a positive manner implementing logical explanations for the happenings
within the story. The text can be unpacked through the application of socio historic context and a
feminist hermeneutic, in order to create an educated and extensive reading. Socio historical context
provides an explanation for the actions and beliefs present within this period, whilst the hermeneutic
concentrates upon the underrated role of women, amidst a heavily patriarchal society. Accompanied

Evaluation Of The Anterior Cruciate Ligament
Estimations indicate that each year in the United States 200,000 ACL tears occur, with approximately
50 percent of those tears requiring reconstructive surgery: Furthermore, about half of those ACL tears
are accompanied by a torn meniscus (the cartilage that acts as the shock absorber between the shin
bone and the thigh bone) and/or injuries to other ligaments. Common symptoms of a torn ACL include
knee instability, swelling and pain.
What is the ACL?
The Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) and the Posterior Cruciate Ligament (PCL) are located inside
the knee joint. The ACL and PCL form an X behind the kneecap (patella), with the ACL resting in
front of the PCL. Both of these ligaments are responsible for controlling the back and forth motion of
the knee joint; however, the ACL is responsible for stabilizing the kneecap ). In addition, the ACL is
responsible for preventing the shin bone (tibia) from sliding forward on the thigh bone (femur). The
ACL provides the knee with stability while an individual pivots or twists. This ligament is critical
because without it, performing any kind of rotational activity is impossible, particularly when it comes
to playing sports like soccer and basketball.
What Does It Mean When Someone Has a Torn ACL?
An ACL tear is among the most common knee injury reported. This injury involves a breakage of the
fibers making up the ACL. Sometimes, the entire Anterior Cruciate Ligament is torn; whereas, other
times it is just partially torn.

Olmec Vs Teotihuacan Culture Analysis
A common element found within the cultures of Mesoamerica was the way they expressed themselves,
primarily in oral modes of expression... and mute texts (Carrasco, 47). This was observed in the
Olmec and Teotihuacan culture. Although, the Olmec culture was from formative Mesoamerica and
the Teotihuacan culture was from contemporary Mesoamerica there were noticeable similarities and
differences between the two cultures. Evidence of influence and continuity was found linking the
Olmec and Teotihuacan culture. The Olmec and the Teotihuacan are from different time periods but
they share similarities. One similarity is their views of cosmogonies. Richard Diehli author of The
Olmecs: America s first civilization, explains the significance of caves in the Olmec cosmogony.

not pertain only to the Olmec but also to Teotihuacan and later pan Mesoamerican (Diehli, 134). But it
is not limited to just caves scholars have suggested that pyramids and mountains are symbols
associated with birth, origins, and celestial realms. In Teotihuacan we see caves, pyramids, and
mountains all of which have a kind of god or goddess illustrating birth and origins. Another similarity
found between the Olmec and Teotihuacan were the rituals although each had a distinct form of
religion there were noticeable rituals that were common between the two. Two common rituals found
between the two were sacrifices and bloodletting. Reilly explains that blood was a magical substance

What Are The Positive And Negative Effects Of Mosquito
According to the U.S. Center for Disease Control, every year more than 1.5 million people around the
globe lose their lives due to mosquito borne diseases (2012). A mosquito is an insect which lives
around the world, especially in tropical and subtropical countries. The mosquito has both positive and
negative effects. As part of positive effects, larvae of mosquitoes are food for fish and dragonflies, and
when mosquitoes consume nectar, they help the flowers to pollinate. On the other hand, mosquitoes
make people annoyed and cause many diseases. World Health Organization (2016) explains that the
mosquito is the greatest menace which causes many diseases and they are responsible for more than
million deaths and cases every year. There are many diseases that caused by mosquitoes, but the
diseases are commonly found and get people s attention because they have many negative effects on
people such as malaria, dengue fever, and Zika virus disease. A disease that kills a child patient every

Similarities And Differences Between Star Wars A New Hope...
Star Wars: A New Hope and 12 Angry Men are two movies that have underlying similarities and
visible differences. While not entirely obvious, there are similarities between the movies based on
character development and plot lines. Due to the nature of the two movies, it is extremely obvious as
to the differences between the two. The similarities include the character development of Juror 7 (Jack
Warden) in 12 Angry Men and Han Solo (Harrison Ford) in Star Wars: A New Hope and a good vs.
bad theme. Some of the differences include the setting of the two movies and the drastic difference in
special effects.
When examining the similarities between SW and 12 AM, it can be argued that the development of
Jack Warden s character and Han Solo have very similar characteristics. Both characters start out with
the goal of personal gain but eventually find a genuine reasoning behind their decisions. This is clearly
seen when Jack Warden, in 12 AM, notifies the other jurors that he is just trying to get out of the
meeting in time to watch a baseball game. He quickly joins the majority of the jurors in voting that the
defendant is guilty, even though he can not give a clear reason for his response. Eventually, Juror 8,
played by Henry Fonda, is able to provide evidence as to why he feels the defendant is not guilty.
Many of the jurors change their response to not guilty because the genuinely believe the evidence
given is sufficient. However, Juror 7 changes his vote to not guilty with the

Genetics And Biotechnology And Its Effect On The World...
The definition of biotechnology, according to the fourth addition biology book from BJU press, states
that Biotechnology is the use of technology to enhance living organisms and processes.
Their are many aspects of biotechnoogy including cloning, genetic engineering, stem cell technology,
gene therapy and genetically modified plants and food. I will be splitting this paper off into sections
by these specific aspects in order to learn more about genetics and biotechnology and its effect on the
world around us. So let s dive in. Section 1. Cloning
There are three common types of clones:natural clones, artificial clones and last but not least human
clones.
Natural cloning occurs when animals without man s intervention create a native, unaffected genetic
copy of themselves as their young. This occurs by asexually reproduction, a process in which certain
animals don t need two parents in order to create a young, but can make sperm themselves. Organisms
that are multicellular can reproduce by processes such as: fragmentation, budding or produce spores
from asexual reproduction from natural clones. Natural clones make an exact genetic copy of
themselves except in the fetus stage. The organisms that can make a natural clone are some jellyfish,
some insects and some worms. Unlike most animals that are more common to us such as fish, birds
and mammals reproduce sexually making them inapplicable for natural cloning. Unlike the animal
kingdom, plants can easily make clones and

Coronary Heart Disease ( Chd )
Introduction
Coronary heart disease (CHD), also known as ischemic heart disease is the most prevalent form of
cardiovascular disease in Australia (Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, 2014). While over
20,000 of deaths in 2011 were attributed to CHD. There were estimated 590,000 Australians 18 years
old and above diagnosed with CHD in 2011 2012 (AIHW, 2014; Craft, 2014, pg. 596). Myocardial
ischaemia is a common form of CHD. A sufficient coronary artery blood flow is essential to supply
oxygen for normal cardiac activities. Myocardial ischaemia develops when there is an insufficient
supply of blood and oxygen to support the function of myocardial cells (Craft, 2014, pg. 599). A
decrease in blood supply can led to the formation of atherosclerotic plaques by narrowing or occluding
the arteries. Other conditions such as hypotension, coronary spasm, dysthymias, hypoxemia and
anaemia can also decrease the blood and oxygen supply to the myocardial cells (McCance Huether,
2014, pg. 1153)
A common symptom for myocardial ischaemia is angina chest pain. Angina can occur in two forms:
stable or variant angina (McCance Huether, 2014, pg. 1154). Stable angina is caused by myocardial
ischaemia. The symptoms are usually described as sensation of heaviness, pressing or squeezing pain,
and sometimes may radiate to other places such as left shoulder, arm, lower jaw and neck (McCance
Huether, 2014, pg. 1154; Touhy, Jett, Ebersole, Hess, 2012, pg. 270). On the other hand,

Arguments For Animal Testing
Testing on animals has been a thing for so many years now. In fact, many scientists believe it should
be done before human testing. But with it being around for so long, it has become a subject of
controversy. People around the world share their views and opinions about whether it s really
necessary, and some even question if the process is even ethical. While it is sad that animals have to
come to terrible fates, the process of animal testing is absolutely essential to test the safety of products.
Besides the obvious benefit, which is that animal testing saves lives, results are generated quicker with
animal testing, so diseases can be cured faster. Sometimes the illnesses cured can affect animals too,
so humans aren t the only ones benefited. Animals are also benefited by the guidelines put in place by
the Animal Welfare Act, which makes sure that animals are treated fairly during the testing process.
All in all animal testing is without a doubt crucial to test products that save both human and animal
lives.
Before putting a product out in the world scientist have to first make sure it is safe for people to use.
To do this they have to test it on a living being. As said before most scientists prefer to do animal
testing first. They are able to do this because animals and humans are very similar we have the same
organ systems that do the same things in roughly the same way. In the article, Animal Testing Saves

Red Emma Song Review Essay
The song Red Emma uses a trumpet, guitar, drums, tambourine, and it sounds like a maraca is used
occasionally. The trumpet opens with a melody and then plays a similar melody at the end of the song.
There are solo improvisations from the trumpet, guitar, and drums. The drummer and guitarist play
improvised melodies underneath the trumpeter for most of the song, except when they take their solos.
During the solo improvisations, the instruments that are not soloing are playing melodies underneath
the improvisation. Technically, there is no rhythm section because the drums and guitar play
improvised melodies throughout the song. The drummer does keep a rhythm and follows a structure
that is established by the trumpeter. The trumpet adds tone color by playing across the range from low
to high and adjusting pitch. The guitar changes the tone by playing different chords that have a low
and high pitch. The drummer adds colorations by using cymbals and playing different drums to alter
pitch. The song uses an A B C D form that is not consistent throughout the song. This song is very

The Ishtar Gate Was The 7 Wonders Of The Ancient World
The Ishtar Gate was built by constructed by King Nebuchadnezzar II in 575 BCE. It was one of eight
gates built of the inner city of Babylon which today is Iraq. This gate was the main entrance into the
great city of Babylon. The Ishtar Gate was so well known that it made the list of the seven wonders of
the ancient world, but was later replaced with the lighthouse of Alexandra. Some people to this day
still say that the Gate of Ishtar should still be one of the seven wonders. What makes this gate so
wonderful and great that it used to be considered one of the seven wonders of the ancient world? The
Ishtar gate was dedicated to the Babylon goddess Ishtar. Ishtar was the goddess of fertility, love, war,
and sex. On the gate there are three types of animals a lion, dragon, and a bull. The lion is represented
of the goddess Ishtar. The other two the bull and the dragon Nebuchadnezzar had put in to pay homage
to two other gods. The young bull represented Adad and the dragon represented Marduk. Adad was
the god of the weather and Marduk was the national god of Babylon. The goddess Ishtar is a
Mesopotamian goddess that stands for war and sexual love. In the Sumerian tradition the goddess
Ishtar takes the role as a fertility figure. But she is also a much more complex character she is always
surrounded by death and disaster within her myths. The Akkadian Ishtar was the protector of
prostitutes and the patroness of the alehouse. Her worship in this religion

Discussion on the Success of Hublot Watches
Hublot watches
This paper will discuss the positioning and success of Hublot watches in achieving the luxury watch
worldwide. In order to make a good analysis, a lot of information has been gathered through the
official website as well as the advertisement on TV. These information is also combined with the
knowledge of marketing mix and positioning acquired earlier in the course. The main concepts
mentioned have been sourced from Brassington F. And Pettitt S.(2007). Discussion will focus on the
usage of the four element of marketing mix product, price, place and promotion.

The target market of Hublot aims to the young entrepreneurs at the age of 25~45. Compared with
other luxury watches consumers, those entrepreneurs are younger, and they prefer the sense of future
plans. At the same time, they are the generations of the Internet . Take the USA and China for
example, most Internet users are 20~40 years old. The are more likely to accept the creative products
rather than the historical classic ones, and they are believed to be influenced by the information on the
Internet much easier.
In terms of Internet and media, Beaver created Hublot TV in June, 2006, which becomes the first one
to create an online television channel of luxury brands in history. The television will broadcast all
kinds of news of the brand and spread around the world. Furthermore, Hublot also take advantage of
the usage of communication web. Up to now, Hublot have more than 370 thousand fans on Facebook,
and keep the rapid growth.
Young entrepreneurs are energetic, dynamic and vigorous. Swiss watch brands have always been keen
on sponsor sporting events. Rolex and Wimbledon have a cooperation up to 42 years, their

Code Talker Summary
Kyle Ludwig Mr. Dittmar American History Third Quarter Book Report 6 March 2015 The novel
Code Talker by Joseph Bruchac is an amazing story of a young Navajo man that joined the cause to
fight in World War II as a Navajo code talker. It presents not only the struggles, challenges and
hardships that many soldiers endured but those same struggles, and more, that the Code Talkers fought
through. It takes place mid World War II and wraps up with the Japanese surrender ending the long
fought war. The book touches on each one of the main stepping stones leading to the final battles
against the Japanese at Iwo Jima. World War II was fought from 1939 all the way through 1945 in
both Europe and Asia. The war began in Europe with the invasion of Poland ... Show more content on

When they approached the island they found a wall of sand where the tide had washed much of it
away. None of the tanks or alligator vehicles could climb it and they soon were bogged down up to
their undercarriages in sand. The Marines neared the island expecting to find nothing but destruction.
However, they found something far worse. The Japanese soldiers had built shelters and bunkers and
were waiting for the Americans to enter the sand and work their way in. Each Marine had a surprise
when the Japanese opened fire and, having no support from their own marooned tanks and other
support vehicles, the Americans could do nothing but dig down and wait out the storm. When the
firing finally stopped and many Americans were dead, the remaining warriors fought hard and pushed
the enemy back. The only Japanese remaining on the woodline were a few snipers. One of which
caught Ned in his crosshairs. He was hit in the left shoulder but had a clear pass through wound with
minimal damage. He made a quick recovery and was sent to San Francisco nearing the end of the war

The Locust And The Bird My Mother s Story Analysis
All about perspective
It s all about perspective. Each one has his own point of view on life, either according to one s culture,
traditions or even political opinions. Along with these perspectives, comes the recognition of different
identities. Actually, the diversity of the Arab s identity will be shown according to how others perceive
them (using Jackals and Arabs ), how they perceive themselves (using Hanan El Sheikh s novel: The
Locust and The Bird: My Mother s Story ), and finally how I perceive them according to what I read
in Tayeb Salih s novel: Season of Migration to the North .
To begin with, how others perceive the Arabs is a tricky viewpoint to tackle, since it s not at all
objective, and would be influenced by many religious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Clearly, the religious aspect, in their lives in the village, makes up an important part of their identities.
Actually, lots of references of their religion, Islam, are noted throughout the novel; every few pages or
so The Koran or the act of prayer is mentioned: My father, having finished his prayers and recitations
from the Koran... (Salih, 1969, p.2). Also, they use prayer times as a reference for their daily schedule.
They even interfere religion in most of their social matters; for example the narrator was asked about
the European women and their culture: They say that the women are unveiled and dance openly with
men... , Wad Rayes also posed a question implying that foreigners are sinners: That they don t marry
but a man lives with a woman in sin? (Salih, 1969, p.3). All this shows, how important religion is in
their lives. However, a contradiction does appear between religion and sexuality. For example, many
inappropriate sexual references were made concerning the women and their treatment as pure sex
preys. Actually, while sitting with his neighbors, Wad Rayes confessed of his will to marry so that he
can enjoy sexual pleasures once more: In any case, there s no pleasure like that of fornication (Salih,
1969, p.78). Thus, sexuality does appear in an awful number of times; let alone Mustafa Saeed s

The Rockaways was once the summer playground for all of Queens. With miles of sandy beach and

Western Classical And Classical Music
A plethora of sweet melodies flowing together into one cohesive song, sharps and flats bouncing off
one another like a child on a trampoline, and notes oozing so much legato you would assume the
pianist transformed into a robot. What genre exudes those characteristics? Western classical music.
Western classical music is broken down into six categories in order for it to be easily identifiable
chronologically. The six categories are the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Baroque Age, the
Classical Period, the Romantic Era, and the Twentieth Century. The earliest form of Western music
originates from the Medieval time period of c.1150 c.1400, and the most recent time period is the
music post from the Great War, which spans from 1920c. Present. It was during the Baroque Age, the
Classical Period, the Romantic Era, and the Twentieth Century that many of the famous composers,
whose songs are still recognized today composed pieces. The mark these impeccable composers left
on the world of music will forever be recognized, which is one of the reasons I applaud classical
music. I am impressed by Western classical music because of its depth, clarity, and variety.
First, Western classical music has an immense amount of depth. A pianist and composer from the
Classical Period such as, Wolfgang Mozart is particularly famous for adding layers upon layers of
melodies within his pieces. One of Mozart s most successful pieces, the piano sonata No. 14 in C

Sex Segregation in the U.S. Work Force
This research paper focuses on the gender differences that take part in the U.S. workforce. It discusses
the manner in which men and women are subtly segregated. We refuse to believe that discrimination
as such continues to exist in the 21st century, yet it s the ugly truth. A gender gap is created due to
differences in authority, pay, and promotion. Research shows us that economic variations exist and,
through past cases we see that even though it has been twenty five years that Title VII has passed;
segregation ceases to exist. Coined by Hymowitz and Schellhardt in the Wall Street Journal more than
twenty years ago, the barriers women face in the workplace earned the term glass ceiling, continues to
exist in U.S. labor. It is important to draw attention to this problem, because it stands as a prevalent
issue as women strive for equal success as men, yet are held back.
Have you ever stopped to consider why such drawbacks prevail in our society? Most wish to believe it
s due to women playing dual roles as mothers and full time employees. Others believe that it s a mere
coincidence, and that segregation no longer takes a role in our world. From a young age, gender
segregation is inculcated beyond our notice. Boys wear blue and girls wear pink. Boys play with cars,
guns, and video games, while girls play with dolls, make up, and have tea parties. This inception of

Aristotle s definition of the soul is the substance in the sense which corresponds to the definitive
formula of a thing s essence. Aristotle thought that the soul is the Form of the body. The soul is
basically all of the operations of a human being. Aristotle believed that there are levels of living
things. He stated that plants only have a vegetative soul, animals are above plants because they have
senses and appetites, and humans are above animals because it has the power of reasoning and
knowledge us. Aristotle tries to explain the difference between the body and the soul using an axe as

He argues that because of this, there is growth, deterioration, and reproduction. Aristotle says that
plants only have this type of ability. To obtain this, it is important to have a soul. The next level is
sensation. Because of this quality, the feelings of pain and pleasure arises. Aristotle says that animals
have this quality. For a soul to have sensations, vegetation must be there as well. In other words, if
sensation is a characteristic of the soul, its vegetative ability is added as well. The next capacity that
can be developed is appetite, which is very much related to sensation. After the soul is able to feel,
there is a rush of desires. Some desires go along with what we physically need like thirst and hunger
and other desires that we do not need like emotions like anger. The next step is motion, which is
movement from place to place and rest. As said before, in order to have this ability, it is essential to
have the previous ones, building up on the soul. For motion to be possible, appetite, sensation and
vegetation must also be there. The last level is understanding; which Aristotle thinks is the most
unusual. This involves reasoning using thought and intelligence. In this category, humans would most
likely be found even though Aristotle states that some people are guided only by imagination and not
intelligence. Again, to have this quality, all of the characteristics stated before must be

C2ci. After doing a read aloud and independent reads of the fable The Crow and the Pitcher The
Tortoise and the Hare, through reading aloud or independent read, students will reflect on situations in
their life that present challenges. Students will be divided up into groups of four with five students in
each cluster and discuss one of the fables read in class. Students will reflect on the challenges the
character faces in the story. Each group will come up with evidence, showing the challenges the
character faced. The group will explain how these challenges brought strength to the character. Each
group will come up with evidence to show how the challenges the character faces can also bring
strength to the character. Students will write and draw an example of something in their life that
describes the moral presented in the story they analyzed. By exploring the problem and the character s
strength, students will have a greater understanding of perseverance from the experience of the
character in the story. Understanding the role of the characters is crucial to understanding the theme of
the story, patterns, and analyzing writing. Students will make connections between characters and the

The Benefits Of Hiking And Trekking
Why should you use hiking poles? Is the primary question that you ask yourself, especially when you
are a beginner in hiking. Before you get the right answer for this question you need to consider two
things and that is Safety and Comfort. Hiking poles are just balancing sticks which help you maintain
good balance that is closely related to your overall safety and comfort. When you use two poles you
move as you have four legs which allow you better comfort and safety. Hiking experts say that using
hiking poles makes you switch to a 4x4 driving mode, by using your two legs and two hands.

yourself carry these sticks with you by seeing their countless benefits.
Thousands of people who have already used (or still using!) hiking poles for years could not be wrong
and this is the reason that poles are considered the traditional way to move on uncertain tracks while
maintaining good stability. Although, hiking poles have countless benefits but below given are some
significant benefits which enforce us to use them every time we go on hiking and trekking:
Safety Safety is the main reason of using hiking poles. Hiking poles allow your extra pair of legs to
maintain stability on uncertain trails and when crossing fast streams or difficult terrains. Without
having hiking poles you may fall down that may end up in injuries and accidents, and if you don t fall
even then ache in knees or ankles is a common mishappening you may face. When you have hiking
poles with you, they keep you safe by preventing fall downs, bad steps which may cause of sprained
ankle or knee.
Indeed, safety and convenience are the main reasons for using these hiking and trekking poles. Let s

Build A Fire
In To Build a Fire by Jack London, a foolish man decides to hike in severely cold weather, despite
warnings from others. In the beginning he does well and keeps plenty warm. Unfortunately he falls
shin deep into cold water and has to try and build a fire so he doesn t freeze. While trying to build the
fire he makes several errors and realizes that if he doesn t get a fire going, he will die. After several
unsuccessful attempts at making a fire, more and more of his body starts to go numb from the cold. He
thinks of several irrational solutions to his predicament, all of which fail and he eventually freezes to
death. The story shows the complete indifference nature has to human life. The hiker in To Build a
Fire thinks of himself as experienced and refuses to heed the warnings about the extreme cold he is
heading into. When he is first starting out, things seem to be going well until he falls into some water.
Usually, there are some warning signs that the ground walked upon has water underneath, but nature
gave no clues and the hiker fell into its trap. At a place where there were no signs, where the soft,
unbroken snow seemed to advertise solidity beneath, the man broke through (London 4).When the

because it is often viewed as one case that a whistleblower changed corporate America. The
Worldcom case led to legislature changes and the creation of Sarbanes Oxley Act and even the
creation of many internal controls within corporate America s organizations. I think the Worldcom
whistleblower was not only a positive for that business, which closing of a business can be a positive

board.

Submitted on: November 26, 2014 Discuss the structural factors which contributed to the onset of the
Arab Spring in 2011. Based on what you learned about the origins of revolutions in this class, was this
wave of contention inevitable?
The term Arab Spring has emerged in academic literature as well as in the general media from about
early 2011. It refers to the awakening of some Arab nations and the movements to replace
authoritarian regimes with democratic ones. The theme of spring and awakening seems to have been
borrowed from the 1989 reform movements in the former Eastern block nations, such as in the former
German Democratic Republic or Hungary. However, this comparison has been criticised by some
analysts since both the circumstances which have led to these movements as well as the outcome of
these reform efforts seem to differ quite a lot. Yet, the Arab Spring term seems to be still widely used
and even found an extension in the creation of the term Arab Winter which refers to events that
happened in 2012 in some Arab countries during which these reform movements seemed to have
cooled off and particular nations, such as Egypt, attempted to go back to the status quo of the pre 2011
era.
The term Arab Spring has been

Death Of A Salesman And The American Dream
The United States in the mid twentieth century was a time of change. In the 1960 s the civil rights and
women s rights were in their embryonic stages. All of these ideas coming together created the illusion
of The American Dream. Back then; the American dream was equated with freedom and material
prosperity, two concepts that ring true today. The definition of the American dream changes as society
in the United States changes, and the connotation and reality of the American Dream is disheartening.
Two literary compositions give a realistic outlook on what the American Dream really is. In Death of a
Salesman and The American Dream, Arthur Miller and Edward Albee masterfully relay the true nature
and ideologies of The American Dream. In theory, the American Dream is the idea that every person
residing in the United States of America should live a richer and fuller life, regardless of the class one
is born in. It is not a dream about cars, high wages, and a picket fence. The idea, for it to work, is
supposed to be that every man and woman in this beautiful country has the ability to gain the highest
class in their ability regardless of their previous background. The ability to achieve such high success
is based on academic success and hard work. In current times, it seems the American Dream has
become a pursuit of material objects. Citizens of the United States work countless hours to be able to
afford bigger cars, better homes, and the newest technologies. On the surface,

A Short Note On Na K Cl Cotransporter
Introduction
The Na K Cl cotransporter is a group of ubiquitous membrane transport proteins. This secretory
cotransporter maintains electroneutrality by transporting ions with the stoichiometry of 1Na+: 1K+:
2Cl . Two different gene isoforms of the Na K Cl cotransporter have been found. Both varieties of the
symporter act to regulate and maintain cell volume and intracellular Cl concentrations. However, the
two different isoforms of NKCC vary structurally as although NKCC2 is around 60% homologous to
NKCC1, it is lacking exon 21 (Delpire et al., 1994). The loss of this exon leads to the differential
sorting of the two isoforms therefore they are targeted to different membrane domains (Carmosino et
al., 2008). The first isoform, NKCC1, is a major component in mediating Cl influx in the basolateral
membrane. Contrastingly, NKCC2 is selectively expressed in the apical membrane of cell such as in
thick ascending limb of Henle and primarily involved in NaCl reabsorption (Darman and Forbush,
2002).
In humans, the Na+ K+ 2Cl cotransporter is encoded by the SLC12A2 gene. These proteins have the
same predicted structure with a large, hydrophobic region containing 12 transmembrane α helices
surrounded by the hydrophilic N and C terminal cytoplasmic regions. The transmembrane spanning
domains function to allow ion transport and the N and C terminal regions are responsible for
regulation. There is also a large, extracellular, glycosylated loop located between helices 7 and 8

Genetic Engineering
There are many risks involved in genetic engineering. The release of genetically altered organisms in
the environment can increase human suffering, decrease animal welfare, and lead to ecological
disasters. The containment of biotechnological material in laboratories and industrial plants
contributes to the risk of accidental release, especially if the handling and storage are inadequate. The
purely political dangers include intensified economic inequality, the possibility of large scale eugenic
programs, and totalitarian control over human lives. How should the acceptability of these risks be
determined? We argue that the assessment should be left to those who can be harmed by the decisions
in question. Economic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If, on the other hand, there is no God, we can only lose a few earthly pleasures by acting as if there
was. Since the happiness and misery we encounter if God exists are infinite, it is always, no matter
how small the probability, in our own best interest to place our trust on His beneficient existence
rather than on the meagre pleasures of godless hedonism.
The ethos of Pascal s wager can be easily applied to genetic engineering. We can either believe or
disbelieve that all living beings have an essence, or nature, which must not, for fear of an unnamed but
absolute horror, be tampered with. As our belief in this essence would only cost us a few technological
advances we can live without, we should not risk drawing upon ourselves the ultimate punishment by
playing God or by otherwise acting unnaturally . (3)
Deontological critics of biotechnology typically argue that the new gene splicing techniques can
involve acts which should never be performed, whatever the consequences. For a proponent of this
view, the dangerous element in genetic engineering is not the probability of concrete physical or
psychological harm which can ensue from its use, but the likelihood that it can lead people into
performing acts which are categorically forbidden. These acts are in some theories linked with the
essence of humanity, and in others with the concept of absolute rights or

While trying to help her sister 1 J. Turner, paper #2 kil Yosarian, the kid sister is said to brandish a
bread knife as if playing with a toy. Her innocence makes her incapable of violence. She is not yet
able to control such womanly, domestic weapons.
As a kid she is not an adult, not a woman, not a man. She is a twelve year old virgin who cannot be
identified by her sexuality. Her sapling body (259) is twig like in comparison to the voluptuous
women in the bordelo. She is outgrowing her childhood but has not yet reached adulthood. She is
caught betwen the world of innocence and the world of guilt. As a virgin she is pure and unadulterated
in the most basic sense of the word. She is not contaminated by the sordid ways of the world and
maintains an innate innocence. Yosarian wants to rescue her before she fals into the trappings of
adulthood, into the footsteps of her older sister. The purgatorial state in which Heler presents the kid
sister can be viewed as similar to the moral limbo in which Yosarian finds himself. Diagnosed with a
morbid aversion to dying and having depseated survival anxieties (313), Yosarian s main objective
throughout the book is to avoid being kiled. However, his instinct for self preservation is moderated,
in the end, by loyalty to his friends and a sense of optimism and hopefulnes that he asociates with
Nately s whore s kid sister.
The second part of this character s cognomen brings

Okonkwo Chapter 22
In Chapter 22 and 23 of Things Fall Apart, conflict arises concerning Okonkwo, the village, and
district commissioner. Enoch, a convert commits a crime. During the annual worship of the earth
goddess, he said that an egwugwu would not dare to touch a Christian. In response, one of them hits
him with a cane and Enoch publicly unmasks the egwugwu. All the egwugwu, on the next day gather
and storm the village as they destroy Enoch s compound. They go to the church and surround Mr.
Smith and Okeke, who then tells them to leave the house of God. They refuse and burn the church to
the ground. Okonkwo along with the other leaders are invited to speak with the District Commissioner
to discuss what had happened, but they get imprisoned instead as

Immigration And Immigration Reform
Imagine that you are a senior in high school. You are nervous and excited to start the process of
getting a job and attending college. You obtain a couple of job applications and a Free Application for
Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to fill out. Naturally, as you fill out these forms you ask your parents for
your social security number, however, this is the moment you find out that you are undocumented.
Shocked and in disbelief, you can t help to see all your hopes and dreams go down the drain.
Nevertheless, like many other undocumented students, you discover there is still hope for your
situation. For instance, your research leads you to former President Barack Obama s Deferred Action
for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which protects minors who were brought to this country
illegally as children. Created through executive action in June of 2012, DACA gives young
undocumented immigrants: protection from deportation and a work permit. Subsequently, on
September 5th, 2017, the Trump administration rescinds the DACA policy, and approximately
800,000 young immigrants will become eligible for deportation at the end of six months. Therefore,
the only way to update our immigration system is for Congress to pass immigration reform, which
offers a pathway to citizenship, plus, acknowledge that the 14th Amendment applies to homosexual
conduct and illegal aliens.
Comprehensive immigration reform would have significant economic benefits for DACA recipients
and American citizens. In

Penis Growth Research Paper
Making your penis higher is convenient with the advent of free penis workout routines. With out the
need for drugs, pumps, or other contraptions, any man can increase their penis measurement each in
length and girth. The first class part of all is that these are common penis enlargement workout
routines.
These are probably the most many penis growth approaches that should be evaded:
putting weights: whilst it is going to seem apparent to hang weights from your penis to stretch it, this
designated procedure is without problems too dicy and dangerous. One false transfer can burst blood
vessels and intent permanent impotence anything that no man would fathom.
Pumps: prolonged use of pumps and equivalent contraptions can result in lengthy term and potentially
irreversible harm to the penis. What s extra, their effectiveness at enlarging the penis is still disputed.

At first rate, they may be able to increase the blood drift to the penis for a short interval. Worse, if
these creams contain any detrimental components, they are able to cause severe infection and injury to
the penis. Creams will not be invasive, but they aren t as nice as ordinary penis expansion exercises.
Silicone injections: Of all the mainstream penis expansion approaches, that is essentially the most
unsafe. Silicone injections may just increase penis girth but when any of the liquid gets into the
bloodstream, then the penalties could also be deadly. Although carried out adequately, the penis can
also be damaged or deformed beyond repair.
Surgery: Invasive surgery is essentially the most high priced and most painful of the approaches
mentioned. A failed operation can leave you with a permanently scarred

Nutritional Analysis Project
After completing this nutritional analysis project, it opened my eyes to how many positive and
negatives are present in my diet. To begin, one of the positives of my nutritional status is the fact that I
get enough protein through the foods I eat. For example, on October 1, I ate 6 ounces of chicken
breast, which is high in protein. Furthermore, I also have a lot of vitamin B6 and B12 in my diet.
Vitamin B12 was in the 6 ounces of meatloaf I ate on September 30. This vitamin is vital for normal
brain functioning as well. In addition, I consume enough iron in my foods. Iron is extremely important
in the body as it helps red bloods cells transport oxygen. One example of when I consumed a lot of
iron was when I ate corn flakes for breakfast all three days. On the other hand, this project also
uncovered numerous ways my diet falls short. One of these is the fact that I did not have enough ...

I only consumed 11 grams of fiber on September 29 and October 1, and 12 grams on September 30.
This falls much lower than the target intake level of 38 grams. As a result, I am going to add more
fiber to my diet. One way I plan to accomplish this is by adding flaxseed to my yogurt as a snack. This
will add 2.8 grams of dietary fiber per 1 tablespoon serving. Moreover, a final negative is how my
current sodium intake is too high. For example, it was 2953 milligrams on October 1, when my target
was to have less than 2300 milligrams. Consuming too much sodium can cause hypertension, so I
need to make a change. I can accomplish this by adding less salts to my foods and by removing
sodium rich foods in my diet. One example is in the salad dressing I have every day for lunch. In fact,
30 grams of ranch dressing has 328 milligrams of sodium. I am going to switch to Caesar salad
dressing instead, with only 158 milligrams of

Marketing Principles Of International Marketing
From this course, I learned plenty of international marketing principles and knew that international
environments are quite different from countries to countries. Each market you enter is different, and
what works in one country or region will not work in another. As technology creates leaps in
communication and transportation, the world continues to feel smaller and smaller. It is not that hard
for companies and consumers to conduct business in almost any country around the world thanks to
advances in international trade, and no doubt, the world is tending to be more international, diverse
and muti cultural in multiple ways. In most factors that influenced international marketing, culture has
a great impact on it. A marketer always has to study about the local culture in depth before offering a
product to them, and I think that well understanding of a country s culture is really essential for
international marketing. First of all, to have an effective communication one must send the message
according to the receiver s culture, customs and learning process. There are some major barriers by
which effective communication can be hampered. For example, companies have to be aware of what
their brand name will be when it is translated in another language. Since sometimes when a company
renames their brand in foreign country, it might totally change meaning of its original meaning. It will
be embarrassing if the new name delivers wrong message that company does not

Research Paper On Teenage Sass
Emmy is maturing so fast, still sweet and caring but definitely forming that teenage sass...lol...entering
the teenage years is going to be new territory for us. I love that she talks to us about anything. She

safely handle a firearm, a very important skill! She blew out her knees and couldn t compete in cross

class and she adores him too. She told me she always gives him a bad time about being so quite in
hopes of bringing him more out of his shell. I guess he got in trouble for talking in class when he was

  • 2. Incorporating Technology Into Grade Level Performance... In, an attempt to improve the integration of available technology, educators and policymakers are reevaluating ways to incorporate technology into the grade level performance standards without separating the two educational standards (Collins Halverson, 2009). Presently, students and teachers have the ability to transmit information through third and fourth generation technological resources; yet, few take advantage of the endless educational possibilities (Francis Mishra, 2008; Marino, Sameshima, Beecher, 2009; Koehler Mishra, 2006; Sharples, 2007; Su Luan Teo, 2009). According to Francis and Mishra (2008), classroom teachers will need to be knowledgeable of the security of information stored or transmitted through accessible ... In spite of teachers negative attitudes towards changes and/ or technophobia, as the world changes, so must the classrooms, teachers, and delivery of knowledge to students (Hall, 2010; Su Luan Teo 2009; Ursavas Karal, 2009; Prensky, 2008). Not addressing teachers negative attitudes will invariably lead to continued challenges with incorporating classroom technology, especially with those teachers who focus lessons on memorization or note taking. Typically, in many American classrooms, teachers can be seen using the same traditional methodologies used a century or more ago with change resistant teachers instructing students seated in straight rows within the classroom (Sharples, 2007; Overbay, Patterson, Grable, 2009; Su Luan Teo 2009). On the other hand, researchers suggested that teaching in that manner should also include active learning where students take part in the instructional process (Strasser, 2006; Ryu Parsons, 2009). Clearly, based on research there is an effectual demand for teachers to focus lessons on learning ways to learn or research, by using technology to promote active learning and build students technological skills (Ara, 2009; Prensky, 2008; Ryu Parsons, 2009). This research will add to the body of literature of prior theoretical studies of classroom technology usage and Technology attitude scale (TAS) through assessing teacher s technology perspectives relationship between schools and ... • 3. Lies In The United States Cheating, lying and breaking promises is what we Americans are used to hearing and seeing from what we see on the TV or hear on the news. How can we have an honest workflow, when big companies are stealing from others and lying just to make more money without anyone knowing? How can we trust in the government, when they lie about many things from us and feel the need to keep secrets from us? From my viewpoint, I believe that we live in a world where cheating, and lying is normal because everything we look or hear on the news, TV, and celebrities are fake, are being someone there not, or making us want to follow their trend. News are always putting lies in between the truth, just to make the stories more interesting. So, what can we believe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As they have created a horrible habit of lying and cheating to themselves and others, it will be hard to break the habit and tell the truth to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Do you go defend the kid or do you stay a bystander like all the other people you are surrounded by? Most kids just walk by thinking that if they don t stop it they re preventing bullying, but it s just making the problem worse. People need to how to speak up from bullies, and how to speak up for others who are being bullied. A reason why bullying still happens is because the person who gets bullied doesn t tell anyone because they are too scared about what the bully would do to them if the find out, or they think that they cannot get help from anyone else. The bullies think it will make them popular or they do it to make them feel superior to other students. Another reason it still happens is because people who witness bullying happening never tell anyone they re just by standers. In the age of technology a new form of bullying has arisen, cyberbullying, where people can bully other and keep their identities a secret. • 6. Explore How the Character of Prospero Develops in the... Prospero is the most central character in Shakespeare s The Tempest . The play revolves around his personal task to regain his dukedom, which his brother Antonio usurped from him. Throughout the play it is shown how Prospero develops and changes as a character and seems a different person to the character we first meet in Act One Scene Two. How Prospero s character develops happens in a variety of ways, one of the most potent ways appearing to be the treatment of the other characters within the play. Prospero s character is introduced into the play in Act One Scene Two, after the tempest has shipwrecked Antonio and Alonso s ship. We firstly come to realise that Prospero and Miranda are looking down upon the tempest and so the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is easy to see this by the way that Prospero speaks to him using sub human terms such as Thou poisonous slave (4) and him being called a fish (5). Yet as Prospero s character develops, he appears to become less vengeful. Caliban as a sub (or non) human has no rights at all. Furthermore, he was part of a murder plot to kill Prospero so it would not be unusual for the audience to expect Prospero to use his power to get rid of Caliban. Yet in the final act of the scene of the play, Caliban says: Ay, that I will; and I ll be wise hereafter And seek for grace. (6) Caliban here repents and agrees to seek grace and is simply allowed to go and live on the Island. This does not mirror the actions of Prospero at the beginning and throughout the play. He seems to play the role of the cruel sorcerer using his powers to gain control over people and scare them. Yet his action towards Caliban in Act Five seems unlike the character that he has been throughout the play. How he treats Caliban does mirror how he is treats the rest of the characters in the final scene. He does not seem to punish any of the characters, even his brother Antonio. It appears to me that once he has completed the task he wanted to complete and so is able to become Duke of Milan once again he is a more compassionate person. He lets the other characters go free from their punishments. The only characters who seem to be punished are Trinculo and Stephano but they are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Evaluation Of The Anterior Cruciate Ligament Estimations indicate that each year in the United States 200,000 ACL tears occur, with approximately 50 percent of those tears requiring reconstructive surgery: Furthermore, about half of those ACL tears are accompanied by a torn meniscus (the cartilage that acts as the shock absorber between the shin bone and the thigh bone) and/or injuries to other ligaments. Common symptoms of a torn ACL include knee instability, swelling and pain. What is the ACL? The Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) and the Posterior Cruciate Ligament (PCL) are located inside the knee joint. The ACL and PCL form an X behind the kneecap (patella), with the ACL resting in front of the PCL. Both of these ligaments are responsible for controlling the back and forth motion of the knee joint; however, the ACL is responsible for stabilizing the kneecap ). In addition, the ACL is responsible for preventing the shin bone (tibia) from sliding forward on the thigh bone (femur). The ACL provides the knee with stability while an individual pivots or twists. This ligament is critical because without it, performing any kind of rotational activity is impossible, particularly when it comes to playing sports like soccer and basketball. What Does It Mean When Someone Has a Torn ACL? An ACL tear is among the most common knee injury reported. This injury involves a breakage of the fibers making up the ACL. Sometimes, the entire Anterior Cruciate Ligament is torn; whereas, other times it is just partially torn. What ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. What Are The Positive And Negative Effects Of Mosquito According to the U.S. Center for Disease Control, every year more than 1.5 million people around the globe lose their lives due to mosquito borne diseases (2012). A mosquito is an insect which lives around the world, especially in tropical and subtropical countries. The mosquito has both positive and negative effects. As part of positive effects, larvae of mosquitoes are food for fish and dragonflies, and when mosquitoes consume nectar, they help the flowers to pollinate. On the other hand, mosquitoes make people annoyed and cause many diseases. World Health Organization (2016) explains that the mosquito is the greatest menace which causes many diseases and they are responsible for more than million deaths and cases every year. There are many diseases that caused by mosquitoes, but the diseases are commonly found and get people s attention because they have many negative effects on people such as malaria, dengue fever, and Zika virus disease. • 14. Similarities And Differences Between Star Wars A New Hope... Star Wars: A New Hope and 12 Angry Men are two movies that have underlying similarities and visible differences. While not entirely obvious, there are similarities between the movies based on character development and plot lines. Due to the nature of the two movies, it is extremely obvious as to the differences between the two. The similarities include the character development of Juror 7 (Jack Warden) in 12 Angry Men and Han Solo (Harrison Ford) in Star Wars: A New Hope and a good vs. bad theme. Some of the differences include the setting of the two movies and the drastic difference in special effects. When examining the similarities between SW and 12 AM, it can be argued that the development of Jack Warden s character and Han Solo have very similar characteristics. Both characters start out with the goal of personal gain but eventually find a genuine reasoning behind their decisions. This is clearly seen when Jack Warden, in 12 AM, notifies the other jurors that he is just trying to get out of the meeting in time to watch a baseball game. He quickly joins the majority of the jurors in voting that the defendant is guilty, even though he can not give a clear reason for his response. Eventually, Juror 8, played by Henry Fonda, is able to provide evidence as to why he feels the defendant is not guilty. Many of the jurors change their response to not guilty because the genuinely believe the evidence given is sufficient. However, Juror 7 changes his vote to not guilty with the ... The definition of biotechnology, according to the fourth addition biology book from BJU press, states that Biotechnology is the use of technology to enhance living organisms and processes. Their are many aspects of biotechnoogy including cloning, genetic engineering, stem cell technology, gene therapy and genetically modified plants and food. I will be splitting this paper off into sections by these specific aspects in order to learn more about genetics and biotechnology and its effect on the world around us. So let s dive in. Section 1. Cloning There are three common types of clones:natural clones, artificial clones and last but not least human clones. Natural cloning occurs when animals without man s intervention create a native, unaffected genetic copy of themselves as their young. This occurs by asexually reproduction, a process in which certain animals don t need two parents in order to create a young, but can make sperm themselves. Organisms that are multicellular can reproduce by processes such as: fragmentation, budding or produce spores from asexual reproduction from natural clones. Natural clones make an exact genetic copy of themselves except in the fetus stage. The organisms that can make a natural clone are some jellyfish, some insects and some worms. Unlike most animals that are more common to us such as fish, birds and mammals reproduce sexually making them inapplicable for natural cloning. Unlike the animal kingdom, plants can easily make clones and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Coronary Heart Disease ( Chd ) Introduction Coronary heart disease (CHD), also known as ischemic heart disease is the most prevalent form of cardiovascular disease in Australia (Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, 2014). While over 20,000 of deaths in 2011 were attributed to CHD. There were estimated 590,000 Australians 18 years old and above diagnosed with CHD in 2011 2012 (AIHW, 2014; Craft, 2014, pg. 596). Myocardial ischaemia is a common form of CHD. A sufficient coronary artery blood flow is essential to supply oxygen for normal cardiac activities. Myocardial ischaemia develops when there is an insufficient supply of blood and oxygen to support the function of myocardial cells (Craft, 2014, pg. 599). A decrease in blood supply can led to the formation of atherosclerotic plaques by narrowing or occluding the arteries. Other conditions such as hypotension, coronary spasm, dysthymias, hypoxemia and anaemia can also decrease the blood and oxygen supply to the myocardial cells (McCance Huether, 2014, pg. 1153) A common symptom for myocardial ischaemia is angina chest pain. Angina can occur in two forms: stable or variant angina (McCance Huether, 2014, pg. 1154). Stable angina is caused by myocardial ischaemia. The symptoms are usually described as sensation of heaviness, pressing or squeezing pain, and sometimes may radiate to other places such as left shoulder, arm, lower jaw and neck (McCance Huether, 2014, pg. 1154; Touhy, Jett, Ebersole, Hess, 2012, pg. 270). • 17. Arguments For Animal Testing Testing on animals has been a thing for so many years now. In fact, many scientists believe it should be done before human testing. But with it being around for so long, it has become a subject of controversy. People around the world share their views and opinions about whether it s really necessary, and some even question if the process is even ethical. While it is sad that animals have to come to terrible fates, the process of animal testing is absolutely essential to test the safety of products. Besides the obvious benefit, which is that animal testing saves lives, results are generated quicker with animal testing, so diseases can be cured faster. Sometimes the illnesses cured can affect animals too, so humans aren t the only ones benefited. Animals are also benefited by the guidelines put in place by the Animal Welfare Act, which makes sure that animals are treated fairly during the testing process. All in all animal testing is without a doubt crucial to test products that save both human and animal lives. Before putting a product out in the world scientist have to first make sure it is safe for people to use. To do this they have to test it on a living being. As said before most scientists prefer to do animal testing first. The trumpet opens with a melody and then plays a similar melody at the end of the song. There are solo improvisations from the trumpet, guitar, and drums. The drummer and guitarist play improvised melodies underneath the trumpeter for most of the song, except when they take their solos. During the solo improvisations, the instruments that are not soloing are playing melodies underneath the improvisation. Technically, there is no rhythm section because the drums and guitar play improvised melodies throughout the song. The drummer does keep a rhythm and follows a structure that is established by the trumpeter. The trumpet adds tone color by playing across the range from low to high and adjusting pitch. The guitar changes the tone by playing different chords that have a low and high pitch. The drummer adds colorations by using cymbals and playing different drums to alter pitch. The song uses an A B C D form that is not consistent throughout the song. This song is very different from anything that I have ever listened to. • 20. The Ishtar Gate Was The 7 Wonders Of The Ancient World The Ishtar Gate was built by constructed by King Nebuchadnezzar II in 575 BCE. It was one of eight gates built of the inner city of Babylon which today is Iraq. This gate was the main entrance into the great city of Babylon. The Ishtar Gate was so well known that it made the list of the seven wonders of the ancient world, but was later replaced with the lighthouse of Alexandra. Some people to this day still say that the Gate of Ishtar should still be one of the seven wonders. What makes this gate so wonderful and great that it used to be considered one of the seven wonders of the ancient world? The Ishtar gate was dedicated to the Babylon goddess Ishtar. Ishtar was the goddess of fertility, love, war, and sex. On the gate there are three types of animals a lion, dragon, and a bull. The lion is represented of the goddess Ishtar. The other two the bull and the dragon Nebuchadnezzar had put in to pay homage to two other gods. The young bull represented Adad and the dragon represented Marduk. Adad was the god of the weather and Marduk was the national god of Babylon. The goddess Ishtar is a Mesopotamian goddess that stands for war and sexual love. In the Sumerian tradition the goddess Ishtar takes the role as a fertility figure. But she is also a much more complex character she is always surrounded by death and disaster within her myths. Western Classical And Classical Music A plethora of sweet melodies flowing together into one cohesive song, sharps and flats bouncing off one another like a child on a trampoline, and notes oozing so much legato you would assume the pianist transformed into a robot. What genre exudes those characteristics? Western classical music. Western classical music is broken down into six categories in order for it to be easily identifiable chronologically. The six categories are the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Baroque Age, the Classical Period, the Romantic Era, and the Twentieth Century. The earliest form of Western music originates from the Medieval time period of c.1150 c.1400, and the most recent time period is the music post from the Great War, which spans from 1920c. Present. It was during the Baroque Age, the Classical Period, the Romantic Era, and the Twentieth Century that many of the famous composers, whose songs are still recognized today composed pieces. It discusses the manner in which men and women are subtly segregated. We refuse to believe that discrimination as such continues to exist in the 21st century, yet it s the ugly truth. A gender gap is created due to differences in authority, pay, and promotion. Research shows us that economic variations exist and, through past cases we see that even though it has been twenty five years that Title VII has passed; segregation ceases to exist. Coined by Hymowitz and Schellhardt in the Wall Street Journal more than twenty years ago, the barriers women face in the workplace earned the term glass ceiling, continues to exist in U.S. labor. It is important to draw attention to this problem, because it stands as a prevalent issue as women strive for equal success as men, yet are held back. Have you ever stopped to consider why such drawbacks prevail in our society? Most wish to believe it s due to women playing dual roles as mothers and full time employees. Others believe that it s a mere coincidence, and that segregation no longer takes a role in our world. From a young age, gender segregation is inculcated beyond our notice. To obtain this, it is important to have a soul. The next level is sensation. Because of this quality, the feelings of pain and pleasure arises. Aristotle says that animals have this quality. For a soul to have sensations, vegetation must be there as well. In other words, if sensation is a characteristic of the soul, its vegetative ability is added as well. The next capacity that can be developed is appetite, which is very much related to sensation. After the soul is able to feel, there is a rush of desires. Some desires go along with what we physically need like thirst and hunger and other desires that we do not need like emotions like anger. The next step is motion, which is movement from place to place and rest. As said before, in order to have this ability, it is essential to have the previous ones, building up on the soul. For motion to be possible, appetite, sensation and vegetation must also be there. The last level is understanding; which Aristotle thinks is the most unusual. This involves reasoning using thought and intelligence. In this category, humans would most likely be found even though Aristotle states that some people are guided only by imagination and not intelligence. Based on what you learned about the origins of revolutions in this class, was this wave of contention inevitable? The term Arab Spring has emerged in academic literature as well as in the general media from about early 2011. It refers to the awakening of some Arab nations and the movements to replace authoritarian regimes with democratic ones. The theme of spring and awakening seems to have been borrowed from the 1989 reform movements in the former Eastern block nations, such as in the former German Democratic Republic or Hungary. However, this comparison has been criticised by some analysts since both the circumstances which have led to these movements as well as the outcome of these reform efforts seem to differ quite a lot. Yet, the Arab Spring term seems to be still widely used and even found an extension in the creation of the term Arab Winter which refers to events that happened in 2012 in some Arab countries during which these reform movements seemed to have cooled off and particular nations, such as Egypt, attempted to go back to the status quo of the pre 2011 era. The definition of the American dream changes as society in the United States changes, and the connotation and reality of the American Dream is disheartening. Two literary compositions give a realistic outlook on what the American Dream really is. In theory, the American Dream is the idea that every person residing in the United States of America should live a richer and fuller life, regardless of the class one is born in. The idea, for it to work, is supposed to be that every man and woman in this beautiful country has the ability to gain the highest class in their ability regardless of their previous background. The ability to achieve such high success is based on academic success and hard work. In current times, it seems the American Dream has become a pursuit of material objects. • 35. A Short Note On Na K Cl Cotransporter Introduction The Na K Cl cotransporter is a group of ubiquitous membrane transport proteins. This secretory cotransporter maintains electroneutrality by transporting ions with the stoichiometry of 1Na+: 1K+: 2Cl . Two different gene isoforms of the Na K Cl cotransporter have been found. Both varieties of the symporter act to regulate and maintain cell volume and intracellular Cl concentrations. However, the two different isoforms of NKCC vary structurally as although NKCC2 is around 60% homologous to NKCC1, it is lacking exon 21 (Delpire et al., 1994). The loss of this exon leads to the differential sorting of the two isoforms therefore they are targeted to different membrane domains (Carmosino et al., 2008). The first isoform, NKCC1, is a major component in mediating Cl influx in the basolateral membrane. Contrastingly, NKCC2 is selectively expressed in the apical membrane of cell such as in thick ascending limb of Henle and primarily involved in NaCl reabsorption (Darman and Forbush, 2002). In humans, the Na+ K+ 2Cl cotransporter is encoded by the SLC12A2 gene. These proteins have the same predicted structure with a large, hydrophobic region containing 12 transmembrane α helices surrounded by the hydrophilic N and C terminal cytoplasmic regions. The transmembrane spanning domains function to allow ion transport and the N and C terminal regions are responsible for regulation. • 39. Genetic Engineering Essay example Genetic Engineering There are many risks involved in genetic engineering. The release of genetically altered organisms in the environment can increase human suffering, decrease animal welfare, and lead to ecological disasters. The containment of biotechnological material in laboratories and industrial plants contributes to the risk of accidental release, especially if the handling and storage are inadequate. The purely political dangers include intensified economic inequality, the possibility of large scale eugenic programs, and totalitarian control over human lives. How should the acceptability of these risks be determined? We argue that the assessment should be left to those who can be harmed by the decisions in question. Economic ... Since the happiness and misery we encounter if God exists are infinite, it is always, no matter how small the probability, in our own best interest to place our trust on His beneficient existence rather than on the meagre pleasures of godless hedonism. The ethos of Pascal s wager can be easily applied to genetic engineering. We can either believe or disbelieve that all living beings have an essence, or nature, which must not, for fear of an unnamed but absolute horror, be tampered with. As our belief in this essence would only cost us a few technological advances we can live without, we should not risk drawing upon ourselves the ultimate punishment by playing God or by otherwise acting unnaturally . (3) Deontological critics of biotechnology typically argue that the new gene splicing techniques can involve acts which should never be performed, whatever the consequences. For a proponent of this view, the dangerous element in genetic engineering is not the probability of concrete physical or psychological harm which can ensue from its use, but the likelihood that it can lead people into performing acts which are categorically forbidden. These acts are in some theories linked with the essence of humanity, and in others with the concept of absolute rights or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Immigration And Immigration Reform Imagine that you are a senior in high school. You are nervous and excited to start the process of getting a job and attending college. You obtain a couple of job applications and a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to fill out. Naturally, as you fill out these forms you ask your parents for your social security number, however, this is the moment you find out that you are undocumented. Shocked and in disbelief, you can t help to see all your hopes and dreams go down the drain. Nevertheless, like many other undocumented students, you discover there is still hope for your situation. For instance, your research leads you to former President Barack Obama s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which protects minors who were brought to this country illegally as children. Created through executive action in June of 2012, DACA gives young undocumented immigrants: protection from deportation and a work permit. Subsequently, on September 5th, 2017, the Trump administration rescinds the DACA policy, and approximately 800,000 young immigrants will become eligible for deportation at the end of six months. Therefore, the only way to update our immigration system is for Congress to pass immigration reform, which offers a pathway to citizenship, plus, acknowledge that the 14th Amendment applies to homosexual conduct and illegal aliens. Comprehensive immigration reform would have significant economic benefits for DACA recipients and American citizens. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. Nutritional Analysis Project After completing this nutritional analysis project, it opened my eyes to how many positive and negatives are present in my diet. To begin, one of the positives of my nutritional status is the fact that I get enough protein through the foods I eat. For example, on October 1, I ate 6 ounces of chicken breast, which is high in protein. Furthermore, I also have a lot of vitamin B6 and B12 in my diet. Vitamin B12 was in the 6 ounces of meatloaf I ate on September 30. This vitamin is vital for normal brain functioning as well. In addition, I consume enough iron in my foods. Iron is extremely important in the body as it helps red bloods cells transport oxygen. One example of when I consumed a lot of iron was when I ate corn flakes for breakfast all three days. On the other hand, this project also uncovered numerous ways my diet falls short. One of these is the fact that I did not have enough ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I only consumed 11 grams of fiber on September 29 and October 1, and 12 grams on September 30. This falls much lower than the target intake level of 38 grams. As a result, I am going to add more fiber to my diet. One way I plan to accomplish this is by adding flaxseed to my yogurt as a snack. This will add 2.8 grams of dietary fiber per 1 tablespoon serving. Moreover, a final negative is how my current sodium intake is too high. For example, it was 2953 milligrams on October 1, when my target was to have less than 2300 milligrams. Consuming too much sodium can cause hypertension, so I need to make a change. I can accomplish this by adding less salts to my foods and by removing sodium rich foods in my diet. One example is in the salad dressing I have every day for lunch. In fact, 30 grams of ranch dressing has 328 milligrams of sodium. I am going to switch to Caesar salad dressing instead, with only 158 milligrams of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Marketing Principles Of International Marketing From this course, I learned plenty of international marketing principles and knew that international environments are quite different from countries to countries. Each market you enter is different, and what works in one country or region will not work in another. As technology creates leaps in communication and transportation, the world continues to feel smaller and smaller. It is not that hard for companies and consumers to conduct business in almost any country around the world thanks to advances in international trade, and no doubt, the world is tending to be more international, diverse and muti cultural in multiple ways. In most factors that influenced international marketing, culture has a great impact on it. A marketer always has to study about the local culture in depth before offering a product to them, and I think that well understanding of a country s culture is really essential for international marketing. First of all, to have an effective communication one must send the message according to the receiver s culture, customs and learning process. There are some major barriers by which effective communication can be hampered. For example, companies have to be aware of what their brand name will be when it is translated in another language. Since sometimes when a company renames their brand in foreign country, it might totally change meaning of its original meaning. It will be embarrassing if the new name delivers wrong message that company does not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
