founding in the 1980 s greatly expanded during the current APR review period. It is directed by Professor of Surgery Marlys
Witte, MD with the assistance of Michael Bernas, MS as curriculum Coordinator, Grace Wagner as program Manager, and

The program provides individualized research experiences to medical students (30 45 yearly), undergraduates (15 20 yearly),

It seems that when night falls, the mind appears to go into a state of panic. Nighttime brings to mind many horror movies
scenario. Well they do when you re in the middle of nowhere, with a couple of friends and a machete. At least in my mind that
s what happened. A state of pure terror seems to sink in, and I believe the worst scenario that a random stranger is coming
inside my tent and slaughtering me while I m asleep. To begin with, when the day started, it seemed that the scenery was
beautiful and peaceful. It appeared that the same place can have a different perspective at the drop of the sun. I had never gone

I come from a family of critical thinkers and problem solvers and ever since I was young I was put in situations where I had to
use my critical problem solving skills or had to answer any questions my mother threw at me. Some of these questions would
be the application of math in real life. I would have to calculate change and taxes on things my mom bought or calculate the
sale percentage on an item. As a kid, I thought these were another one mom my mother s ploys to my life about learning.

The style of this sculpture falls under impressionism. The dimensions are ( 113x 57.8 x 40.5 cm). This particular sculpture was
actually entered in a competition that was intended to design a monument that was meant to honor and salute the heroes of
Paris who took part in the Defense of Paris during the Franco Prussian War, although Rodin did no win the contest this
monument was still able to be installed in Verdun in the 19th century to show appreciation to the French soldiers of World War
I. When you look closely at this sculpture you will see a female who has wings and to me this symbolizes an angel, she is over
top of a warrior of some sort who seems hurt or wounded, possibly dead. This female may be his guardian angel or something.
The lady with wings seems to be screaming because her mouth is wide open , I am not sure if this is a cry for help or a
rejoicing moment.

John Keegan describes his book, The Face of Battle, as a personal attempt to catch a glimpse of the face of battle. This
personal aspect that Keegan mentions is essential to his book and is excellently articulated, driving home his point. Keegan,
who taught at Royal Military Academy Sandhurst for over 25 years, begins by acknowledging his uneasiness with the fact that
even though he taught British cadets military history, I have not been in a battle; not near one, nor heard one from afar, nor
seen the aftermath . . . And I grow increasingly convinced that I have very little idea of what a battle can be like. Keegan is
clear to state his proposition that almost all military history has functioned simply as a battle piece description in which one
can see all the larger moving aspects followed by the outcome. However, this sort of recounting fails to acknowledge the
personal side of war, the experience of battle. What really ensues when a cavalry unit meets an infantry unit? What are the vital
features in determining whether soldiers stand and fight or turn and run?
Having proposed that military history has been failing in its duty, Keegan then continues to demonstrate how it should be
done. The battles of Agincourt, Waterloo, and the Somme are the main interests of the book; these battles took place centuries
apart and all involved British armies. He examines, in detail, which aspects of war changed or remain constant between the
