School Uniforms Should Be Implemented Into The Nation
School uniforms are increasingly popular across the nation. In fact, it becomes a huge
controversial argument of communities rejecting these mandated school uniforms in their
schools. However, school uniforms are not a negative thing; in fact, it could be positive in many
ways by: eliminating cliques, saving money for parents, and taking away the bullying from
students less fortunate. Meanwhile, on the other side of the argument, people believe that school
uniforms will violate students freedom of expression, create a financial burden on families, and
uniforms will not alleviate problems. However, with a solution that would benefit both parties,
the public school systems in Oklahoma City district would benefit greatly if this policy were
adopted in all the schools; since, the district only has 74 public schools in uniforms, while 17
schools are not. First of all, these school uniforms should be implemented into the rest of these 17
schools, because it would diminish economic and social barriers between students. For instance,
people come from different social classes such as: Upper, Middle and Lower class. Many lower
class families often cannot afford to purchase non essential items for their children; especially for
school, many struggle just to purchase the necessity items such as: food, housing, transportation
etc. According to the Oklahoma City Board of Education, if families are not able to afford school
uniforms, these ways can help them get uniforms cheap; or at no

Yes! The UFC is a dangerous sport, but a sport nonetheless. Every sport has danger and there is
bound to be accidents in them all. Once again, An athletic activity requiring skill or physical
prowess and often of a competitive nature... ( Sport ). That being the definition of a sport clearly
explains that the UFC is indeed a sport. It takes a lot of skill with years of practice to be a
fighter. It is extremely competitive and extraneous. A sport is not defined by the danger, but of
the core principles of fun, of competition. Regardless, danger is not something to live by, yet
something to live for. Danger has the power to control someone s life, but people such as UFC
fighters have taken a stand to do what they enjoy as a career without the worry of fear or
danger. There are plenty of dangerous sports that aren t well known. For example, there is: Deep
sea diving, mountain climbing, base jumping, street Luge, and bull riding. There are countless
sport that pose a danger to anyone that participates. It is human nature to embrace danger and
compete for fun. Danger is only present when rules are not followed. It is completely optional to
each and every person if they want to watch or even participate in this

Tannen And Sontag
Women have historically been seen as sex objects while men have been seen as success objects.
by Deborah Tannen s Marked Women and, A Woman s Beauty: Put Down or Power Source? by
Susan Sontag, The Men We Carry in Our Minds by Scott Russell Sanders, and Man Bashing:
Trivial Pursuits or a Truth with Consequences? by Warren Farrell discuss these two sides to gender
roles. While Sanders and Farrell make some quality points about men s struggle in society, overall,
Tannen and Sontag present a stronger argument about the challenges women face in today s society.
Tannen and Sontag argue that women are made to be sex objects by society; they are pressured to
try to look beautiful while also being degraded as superficial and inept. As Sontag ... Show more

Sander s essay focuses on his childhood when men were working in manual labor jobs for the
most part and women largely staying at home. This is not the case in today s society where
women are also expected to get jobs most of the time. In this way, the burden on men to bring in
the money has lessoned but women still face the pressure of being beautiful. Tannen exposes this
more current set of problems for women when she discusses the expectation that women look
presentable at work. She writes, The range of women s hairstyles is staggering, but a woman whose
hair has no particular style is perceived as not caring about how she looks, which can disqualify
her for many positions, and will subtly diminish her as a person in the eyes of some. Whereas
men do not have to think about their hairstyles and general appearance for work men s hair has
to be unusual to be marked and no makeup is unmarked for men women must consider how
much makeup and what hair do they will do. Every style for women is marked and not taking
the time to decide on a style marks a woman as not put together. Even the arguments that Farrell
brings up for what problems men face in today s society which are often invalid seem
inconsequential compared to the points Tannen and Sontag make about the daily struggles
women face. Farrell makes points such as the one that self help writers voice only women s side
of the argument about toilet seats being put down after men use the toilet. No one suggests
thanking the man for putting it up so he gets nothing on it. And no one asks why a woman
expects the toilet to always be as it is in women s rooms, and never as half the toilets are in men s
rooms: urinals, he debates. Practically, his idea that all

which is based on limit order book (LOB). It is developed in Python by Cliff[21] for teaching
purposes and is less complicated than the real market financial exchanges in various ways like
although traders can issue a new order at any point of time in the limit order book, but they can
only have single order at that time. Also as currently configured, zero latency is assumed by
BSE in communications between the traders and the exchange. Moreover, if any transaction is
performed by any trader (i.e., alteration in LOB by issuing an order), all other traders also
receives an updated LOB before issuing any further orders (or any further transaction). 4.1.1

The Importance Of Workplace Diversity
Workplace diversity is when there is diverse culture of individuals in the workplace. It is when
there is a value placed on the variety of ideas, race, ethnicities, religion, gender, sexuality and
orientation, which is flourishing in an environment. Depending on your employer and workplace,
workplace diversitycan vary based off several different factors. Usually, there is a preferential
standpoint taken on the matter and it can be either display a high or a low context cultureof
diversity. According to Mason (2013) Workforce diversity has been described as a double edged
sword; it has the potential for positive and negative outcomes (p.659). Workplace diversity is
important in a business setting because it carries forward a combination of different types of
people to worktogether in unity, encourages uniqueness, innovative, creative approaches, and
supports interesting divergent ideas to accomplish tasks or goals.
Benefits of a high workplace diversity environment is it not being stuck to conformity in group
thinking, or being narrow minded with similar thoughts and having preference to only be around
people who think like you do which is known as the diversity paradox . According to a quote
stated from Friedrich Nietzsche, Hackett (2014) The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct
him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently (p. 415).
Instead, it reiterates the importance of having a diverse workplace because it constructs better
ideas, coming from different minds, and build upon each other through brainstorming. However, a
poor workplace diversity can also adversely affect one s motivation, which leads to overall job
dissatisfaction and demotivation. When there is poor workplace diversity, you can see less
communication barriers and cultural resistance, but it also makes it harder for individuals to get
used to working with others that aren t the same as them. This can become a form of adversity for
businesses if their employees cannot develop a strong skill set to adapt with not only coworkers but
also customers in the environment. Therefore, better communication and interaction skills are
essential to promoting a business and making it successful.

A Comparison Of Feminism In The Good Earth
Gloria Steinem, an American journalist once said, A feminist is anyone who recognizes the
equality and full humanity of women and men. This quote explains that any person who believes in
feminism, believes in the idea that men and women should be treated equally. Feminism is the
emphasis that women and men should not have divided opportunities. Feminism in literature is
when authors use feminist beliefs in their characters. They use characters in their literature to show
how the men and women are being treated equally, or how they are being treated unequally.
Although it is difficult to see that feminism is showed in The Good Earth, Pearl Buck finds ways to
show feminism differently throughout the female characters. O lan is one of the main
characters and shows feminism in the novel. She was a slave in the House of Hwang before she
became the Wife of Wang Lung. O lan helped Wang Lung achieve wealth, and she also helped
their family survive during the famine. It said, All through the long months of winter she lay
dying and upon her bed, and for the first time Wang Lung and his children knew what she had
been in the house, and how she made comfort for them all and they had not known it (274). It was
always expected for O lan to do the jobs around the house for the rest of the family, and when she
died they finally realized how important she was to the household. This shows feminism because it
is a belief that women are only known for performing household duties. Another

The Right Of Free Speech
Throughout American history, the foundation on which American democratic principles are based,
has been repeatedly tested. In the 1700s, the right of free speech was challenged when President
John Adams proposed the Alien and Sedition Acts. Adams attempted to stop the Democratic
Republicans such as Thomas Jefferson, from criticizing government decisions. Similarly, during
the Civil War President Abraham Lincoln challenged freedom of the press when he took action to
restrict the printing of military news. Lincoln ordered his generals in the field to control the press
and crack down on speech critical of his administration to limit dissent against the war effort.
However, one historical era stands out as a decidedly pivotal test of... Show more content on

Twentieth century U.S. history saw two major episodes of repression and violence against
communists and leftist radicals, that occurred approximately three decades apart. During the early
part of the 1920s, America entered its first period of extreme anti communist sentiment, the First
Red Scare. After the successful Bolshevik Revolution in Russia in 1917, American citizens began
to fear the threat of communist influence at home. At the end of WWI, American workers unhappy
with wages and spiralling inflation, launched widespread sometimes violent strikes with the
support of growing labor unions. Some of these unions called for government takeover of private
industries. For instance, railroad workers called for the national government to take permanent
control of the railroad system. The growing waves strikes signalled a period of extreme civil
unrest; American citizens became frightened that they would face a revolution similar to the one
that had just taken place in Russia. In response, Attorney General A. Mitchell Palmer, in an effort to
gain the attention of American voters to support his presidential aspirations, launched a nationwide
crusade against anyone he identified as having leftist views. Under Palmer s leadership, thousands
of Americans were arrested for taking part in alleged subversion, and thousands of others were
stripped of their civil liberties. In violation of

Dubois and the Color Line Essay
3.) According to DuBois, the problem of the twentieth century is the problem of the color line.
Using several representative examples, consider how American writers (of any color) since the
Civil War have addressed this problem.
DuBois s quote, The problem of the twentieth century is the problem of the color line, tells a great
deal of how Americans in general felt towards segregation each side had suspicions about the
goings ons of the other race. Blacks had a stronger sense of such hesitency because of their history
with Whites, and Whites were generally afraid of anything different than themselves, thus the
enslavement. Hughes, as a writer, dealt with this problem in a way that few had done, and fewer
had done successfully ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This caused many blacks to feel shame for their roots and ancestral past, and a small but powerful
voice in their mind whispered the words that Hughes called the Racial Mountain: I want to be
white . Many blacks at the time could not feel anything but shame for their past, and Hughes
wanted the opposing outlook on that scale to feel pride in being black; to recognize the true beauty
within themselves which is where true being, and true art, can begin to flower and flourish.
DuBois s story The Veil shows a concept that is visible on many levels. The veil can be seen as the
literal darker skin of the black people, which is an easy way to identitify any race from any other
race. This physical trait allows for discrimination solely because it is the easiest thing to point
out. The veil also explores the idea of the White s lack of acceptance of Blacks as Americans, let
alone real Americans. The veil also covers the notion of the Blacks inability to see themselves
outside of what America (White Americans) had described them as.
Then it dawned upon me with a certain suddeness that I was different from the others; or like
[them perhaps] in heart and life and longing, but shut out from their world by a vast veil. I had
thereafter no desire to tear down that veil, to creep through; I held all beyond it in common
contempt, and lived above it

Holocaust Essay On The Holocaust
The intense documentary Genocide reveals the suffering and pain that Jewish people went through.
It also examines how the holocaust took place and what was brutally done to millions of innocent
lives during this horrific time in our history.
The implications of anti semitism on Canada leading up to WWII and the Holocaust was that Jews
needed Canada s help and Canada said no. They followed the stereotypes of what Jews were
perceived as and took in only 5000 Jewish refugees. Based on stereotypes, they took in the group
of people that were the most beneficial to them and Jews were at the bottom of that list with
Chinese and japanese people. There was anti semitism in Germany because of Hitler. While
many do not understand the reason for his hatred against Jews he was the reason that caused
anti semitism which was unnecessary. If Hitler had not created numerous laws discriminating
against Jews, the Holocaust wouldn t have happened. He believed that Jews needed to be
removed and were a problem. The world reacted to Hitler by believing what he said. Hitler was
powerful and he was able to brainwash people. The world slowly listened to what was being told
and agreed. If they weren t the group of people that Hitler targeted they didn t have to worry about
anything and it was easier to just follow the crowd.
The long term effects of the Holocaust was that it left thousands of people in mental and physical
pain while killing millions of innocent people. Since, so many

Example Of Existentialism
Existentialism is a movement in philosophy and literature that began in the mid to late 19th and
reach its peak in mid 20th century, and was largely spread through the works of French
existentialist like Jean Paul Sartre, Albert Camus and Simone de Beauvoir (Mastin L, 2008). There
is no agreed definition of existentialism, as those who are considered as existentialist do not share
the same exact thought on the subject though the starting point may be fairly linked. Jean Paul
Sartre, defines existentialism as a school of thought where one s existence comes before his
essence. Being an atheist existentialist, he argues that there is no God and that man existed first
and defines himself afterwards. Thus there is no human nature, because there is no God to have a
conception of it. Man simply is (Jean Paul Sartre,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eliza Binte Elahi (2014), explains that metaphysics deals with questions that can t be answered
by Science, like the existence of God or the difference between reality and perception thus
questioning the pure existence of human beings on earth. TS Eliot is considered to be a fine
example of a metaphysical poet as he wrestles with noumenal experiences using extended
metaphor, as the Things of God s cannot be known in any other way (Dr Niamh C, 2012).
According to his biography, one of his famous poem The Waste Land, was written when he was
facing some hardships in his life; his marriage was falling and he was suffering of nervous
disorder. The physical and mental distress of the poet may provide an indication about the state of
mind in which The Waste Land was written, which seems to have greatly influenced the choice of
the title of the poem itself. The sub title The Burial of the Dead is equally troubling providing an
obscure and dark atmosphere about the poem. It seems like the titles chosen act as a foretaste of
what is to come

Teacher Student Relationship With Students
The Teacher Student Relationship
School begins at age five, or for some even before that, and so begins the excruciating routine of
waking up at an early hour to be ready to be at a place where you didn t ask to be, to be taught by
an older stranger about something you don t understand. However, in the life of a human being this
routine that goes on for years is essential to our lives, as well as those older strangers who teach
about subjects that you don t understand. Those older strangers have the responsibility to pass on
knowledge to their students and the given knowledge, whether taken or not, will determine their
future. Is everyone comfortable or willingly to accept the teachings of a total stranger? Of course
not, therefore this total stranger has to have an identification to the students, but not necessarily
just a name. Teachers must develop a relationship with their students because teacher student
relationships affect a student s academic excellence.
As a student myself I witness the rebellious outburst of students that will at no end do everything,
but be productive in class. What is the root of this refusal towards learning? This resistance to
education is a nature acquired from the famous phrase that school is boring or school is hard and
those rebellious students disengage themselves from the class and teacher. When a child transitions
into being a student there has to be an engagement to pull them into a pleasure or some sort of
ambition for learning

fact that the Lusitania was sunk by the Germans during the First World War. The Lusitania and her

Repressing Words In Maya Angelou s Graduation Day
You can not do it. You are not good enough. How often have these words torn down a person s
self esteem and confidence. How often have these words stood in the way of a person s success,
paralyzing that person in fear or disappointment. Maya Angelou knew this feeling well in her story,
Graduation Day. The excitement and pride of graduating is taken away by one man s words. These
words lead the audience to believe that they are worthless. However, repressive words only possess
power when allowed.
It is unquestioned that repressing words affect how a person views him or herself. Words can go
as far as to change the whole tone of a day. Angelou recounts the day with vivid details of
laughter, pride, and joy. However, these feelings are replaced within moments, when one man s
speech reminds the people of their oppression. Repressing words take control when the subject of
attack forgets his or her worth. This stance is proven on page 186 of Graduation Day. Angelou
states, The man s dead words fell like bricks around the auditorium... the proud graduating class of
1940 had dropped their heads. Donleavy had exposed us. The entire auditorium allowed
themselves to be subjected to the beliefs of one man, allowing themselves to reform to what the
speaker was claiming. Often words such as these leave a person feeling defenseless. It was brutal to
be young and already trained to sit quietly and listen to charges brought against my color with no
chance at defense. Colored people trained at a young age, believed that their race stood no chance
at equality. While repressive words have power, that power is dependent upon the individual.
It does not have to stay that way. When faced with repression, an individual has two choices. It is
typical for a person to allow those words to become their reality. Angelou began to define her
race as worthless. She conformed to the ideas of others, stirring up feelings of hatred. She goes
as far to say, We were an abomination. All of us (Angelou, 2014, p.186 ). The power of
repression is once again evident. While not as popular, there is a second choice. This choice is
demonstrated when a person does not allow words of repression to define their worth. This choice

Lighting Of Lighting And Lighting
The lighting in Showrooms is imperative to take into consideration for the success of a business.
The quality of lighting effects how the products looks, and how clients will perceive it. Ultimately,
lighting effects whether a client will purchase your products or not. Even with the enormous set of
visual environmental cues present in retail environments, lightingdoes play a significant role in
creating an ambiance. This quote by Yvonne De Kort is expressing the importance of lighting in
a retail space and the effects it has on a spaces ambiance. Lighting effects how everyone feels and
changes the ways we interact in spaces. I am going to go through the showrooms I observed and
reflect what I learned about the types of lighting fixtures and lighting layers in showrooms.
RESEARCH
In showrooms it s important to include all form of lighting (general, task, and decorative) into the
space to create a cohesive lighting design that showcases the products that are being lit. Lighting
can be used to direct focus to certain products, and create paths for customers to follow. It is good
to consider the flexibility of the fixtures placed, to allow for adjustment when store displays are
changed. Making sure the color rendering of the lamps is high quality, so the clients know what the
products actually look like. Keeping maintenance easy is important, because products that are not
lighting properly will not sell. Layered lighting techniques must support the plan of the space and

`` Beautiful Stuff ! By Cathy Weisman Topal And Lella...
Introduction
Project Based Learning is a teaching method that allows students to gain knowledge and skills
by working for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to an engaging and
complex question, problem, or challenge. Through this approach students acquire a deeper
knowledge through active exploration of real world challenges and problems. Beautiful Stuff! is
a book written by Cathy Weisman Topal and Lella Gandini that shares the journey of real teachers
in a real school who were inspired by educators from Reggio Emilia, Italy. Cathy Topal spent two
mornings a week in the preschool and kindergarten as a visual aid teacher. Lella Gandini consulted
with teachers about aspects of the Reggio Emilia approach. The teachers in book Rite Harris and
Debbie Grubbs observed and recorded what happens when the focus is on process rather than
product in project based learning. The book provides approaches on how to nurture the creativity
of children, which is a key part in a child s development. In my paper I will summarize the five
chapters within the book, along with providing two researched based article on project based

Comparing Dante Alighieri s Inferno And The Faerie Queene
Both Dante Alighieri s Inferno and Edmund Spenser s The Faerie Queene depict wooded forests
wrought with transformed men as trees. In the Inferno and The Faerie Queene an existential
conundrum of compromised identities leaves Pier della Vigne and Fraudubio sans human choice.
Dehumanized and disfigured, the individuals that comprise the trees still retain human qualities like
talking, breathing, and, even, bleeding under certain circumstances. Within each space, whether it
is considered a definite locus amoenus or a locus horribilis, the most significant human attribute to
which these trees cling is bleeding and thus they have a small handful of feelings and emotions still

Reflection On The Inclusion Improvement Plan
Reflection is an important part of the planning process. Ongoing learning and reflective practice is
one of the five principles of the early years learning Framework (DEEWR, 2010. p. 7). It gives the
educators an opportunity to look at the planning process, the successful areas of planning, the areas
of improvement and progress and to get motivated to work better for the learning of children. The
following reflection will highlight the merits of implementing the inclusionimprovement plan, some
of the issues that impact on educators capacity to provide an inclusive care environment and how
can the educators manage the competing demands of inclusion of children with additional needs,
with the demands of providing an inclusive environment for all children.
The inclusion improvement plan for Joshua caters to his special needs to a large extent. For
example, Joshua is a child with autism. The term autism loosely groups a range of spectrums that
share the characteristics of difficulties in socialisation, communication and repetitive and restricted
behaviour (EDU 30005, 2016). Children with special needs were not considered to be a part of the
education system and were being labeled as gifted or handicapped. However, with the change in
the societies, the concept of disability has also changed. As Winzer (2007) argues, although there
have always been differences in a society, the construct and implications of what it means to be
normal vary as the society changes and

Applying Dina s Psychodynamic Theory
According to a psychoanalytic theorist would claim that because Dina is around the age of three,
her superego has not fully developed, so she acts mainly on impulse. Because of her incomplete
unconscious, Dina s behavior is dictated by the id portion of her unconscious, which would
explain her selfish part of her personality when it comes to what she wants. Additionally, Dina is
shifting into the phallic stage from the anal stage, where she may have developed a resistance to
authority figures if her parents were impatient in helping her toilet train, which could cause her be
unresponsive to their teacher s lessons about sharing. A psychoanalytic theorist would suggest to
just let Dina outgrow it, as the ego and superego will continue to form until she is around the age
six, as well as she will be entering the phallic stage and leaving behind the anal stage, unless she
becomes fixated. A behaviorist would assert that Dina had learned her behavior through operant
conditioning where she has learned that acting out... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dina s egocentrism causes her to be unable to think of things from another perspective, rendering
her unable to realize what is wrong with her behavior if it benefits her. Dina is also still

screaming when she doesn t get her way is unacceptable. She sees the world and understands based
on what she has seen and constructed herself, so that may be that she s seen another kid use that
behavior but did not see that behavior such as that was not appropriate. A cognitive theorist would
recommend that Dina have the experiences to construct that her behavior is inappropriate through
modeling correct behavior so that she learns, additionally Dina will continue to cognitively develop

Role Of Isolation In Uglies
Fear is an emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is risky or dangerous.
Everyone has a fear of something in life; whether it s spiders, snakes, public speaking, exams or
even heights. However, a teen s most common fear is isolation. Isolation is when you feel alone or
separated from other people. Many teenagers today fear isolation because of the experience of
losing a friend, straining familyrelationships, and struggling to fit in. Teenagers often feel lonely
because they do not have the required friendships that a person desires. Teens need friends that
would care for them, provide support when needed, and understand the situation they are in. When
they fail to get these certain necessities, they feel like they have... Show more content on

They feel as if they are not cool enough to join a certain group of people. Many teens feel like a
misfit, someone who cannot fit in with the crowd. Why does society make it seem like you have to
be a part of a certain group in order for someone to be accepted? In Uglies, by Scott Westerfeld,
fifteen year old, Tally Youngblood, feels isolated from a group of people because she is an ugly
. She feels that in order to fit in she needs to have the pretty surgery. Tally states, Pretties do look
different. They look like themselves. It s just a lot more subtle, because they re not all freaks
(Westerfeld 82). Tally had thought all her life that the only way to get attention from others is to
become a pretty . It s not her fault she grew up in a world where every sixteen year old was
forced to have the pretty surgery. How could she think that she will look normal, if she looks the
same as everyone around her? Just like this many teens try to fit in with society s social norms .
In the drama play, I Claudia, by Kristen Thomson, it is evident that the main character, Claudia,
doesn t fit in with her group of friends because of the way she looks. She states, Stacey told
everyone that she s wearing hot pants and makeup. I wear bell bottoms and platforms, but not
hot pants. I think that they are too short and my legs would just stick out like that (Thomson 23)
This shows teens that the character Claudia has low self esteem; she is afraid to wear the
clothes that she wishes to wear because of the fear of judgement. Why do teens try so hard to
have a perfect body shape? Teens can feel isolated from a group of people because of the way
they may act, look, or understand things. They feel hurt or sad when excluded from a group of
individuals; therefore they feel like they don t

Briony In Ian Mcewan s Atonement
Storytellers are the God of their universe. Seeking atonement for them is nearly impossible without
belief in a higher being. In Ian McEwan s novel Atonement, Briony, a 13 year old fanciful
storyteller, misjudges a series of events that have repercussions on the lives of others. Consequently,
she spends a lifetime attempting atonement through storytelling. Brian Finney explains that Briony
attempts to use fictionto correct the errors that fiction caused her to commit (69). Briony s obsession
with fiction assists her in entering the minds of others and therefore attempting atonement for
something that cannot be reversed. In Joe Wright s adaptation of Ian McEwans novelAtonement, he

McEwan explain Briony s though process on writing: To enter a mind and show it at work, or
being worked on, and to do this within a symmetrical design this would be an artistic triumph

is a success. Wright stays true to this idea by changing the setting of London 1999. Instead of
attending her birthday party, Briony attends a TV interview discussing her book because most of
London 1999 comes from inside Briony s head so the TV interview gives Briony the opportunity
to share her thoughts. In this interview, all the pieces finally come together as Briony reveals the
truth that she made up their thoughts. Wright stays true the heart of the novel because Briony
gives Robbie and Cecilia their happiness by writing from their points of view. Briony explains in
the novel: I like to think that it isn t my weakness or evasion, but a final act of kindness, a stand
against oblivion and despair, to let my lovers live and to unite them at the end (351). Briony gives
them their happiness by her storytelling. Harry Haun explains that The ending was one of the most

narrative. (2). It is hard for the watcher to grasp the reality after finishing the story. Although

The fifth hypothesis is about neuroticism and the many negative effects that the trait displays. A

Understanding Elephant Poaching
The Elephants
Did you know that that 35,000 elephants are dying each year? We are poaching them, usually
for a price. Poaching is different from hunting. Hunting is when you kill for sport, and it s
completely legal. You still need a permit. Poaching is when you kill an animal without a permit.
Sadly, 30 elephants are lost a day in Tanzania. Imagine if that was you and your herd was getting
killed with no end in sight. We need to take some responsibility, because I would want to be killed
just because a poacher had a permit. In order to understand elephant poaching you need to know
why they re being poached, the perspectives of the poachers, and the organisations, how they re
becoming extinct, what we can do to help and what is being done to help. Elephants are being

The Nursing Theory And Theorist
D. Nursing Theory and Theorist From Novice to Expert , the nursing theory by Patricia Benner,
is probably the easiest theory of all to understand. One of Benner s messages is that a well
rounded professional does not miss out on opportunities to learn from life as well as in nursing
school and in the nursing practice. In her theory Benner describes the 5 stages of nursing
experience beginning with novice and moving up to the final stage of expert. She describes how
every stage builds on and is dependent on the previous stage(s), and how one can learn from all of
his or her experiences and builds on those experiences (Benner, 1982). According to Benner, a nurse

our patients. They are not complicated to follow, and yet they make the patient feel like a real
person rather than just another patient in a bed, whereas their absence can hurt and demean
them. As a novice nurse, I am particularly concerned about the physical aspects of different
patient situations. For instance, I rely on patients objective data such as temperature and pulse
to make nursing care decisions. I am still a hundred miles away from having that advanced
nursing intuition that expert nurses have. Every day I enhance my professional competencies in
order to move up the novice to expert ladder and become an expert professional. As I practice
nursing on an almost daily basis, I utilize the different roles and adapt to the needs of my patients

Arden Of Faversham Critical Analysis
The play Arden of Faversham follows the Renaissance genre of tragedy, yet it focuses on the
domestic sphere in the unconventional setting of Arden and Alice s home, rather than the courtly
setting of most tragedies written in the Elizabethan period, in the realm of nobility. While most
tragedies following this genre concern themselves with the authority of those in the noble court,
Arden of Favershams primary concern is with the authority within their own home.
As theatre began shifting away from the political sphere in the Elizabethan period and focused
more on comedic and tragic genres, playwrights were able to feature more intimate and domestic
issues in their spectacles, but still regarded courtly settings as the appropriate setting ... Show more

This is demonstrated after Gaveston reads the letter brought to him from the king, as he states,
What greater blisse can hap to Gaveston,/ Then live and be the favorit of a king? (Edward I.I 4
5). This letter is calling Gaveston back to Edward s court, Gaveston s exile and return is a
reoccurring theme throughout the play. Marlowe constructs this play through the characterization
of his characters, as the king searches for his identity in his relationship with Gaveston. The play
itself opens with a soliloquy by Gaveston, My father is deceast ; come, Gaveston,/ And share the
kingdom with thy deerest friend (Edward I.I. 1 2), yet these first two lines are actually the words
of the king, interplaying the relationship with the king, and the role of the courtly world. However,
while Arden and its characters stray from the courtly world created in Edward II and The Spanish
Tragedy, the author of Arden does not keep this consistent throughout. For example, although Arden
is unconventionally not of noble birth, he does marry Alice who was descended of a noble house
(Arden I.202). Although the play is not directly representing a concern with state issues and
territories,
The playwright of Arden uses irony, as seen in the passage, My saving husband hoards up bags of
gold/ To make our children rich (Arden I. 220 1). The irony represented in this statement is
magnified as it was Alice who claims that her husband saving money for their next generation, yet

The Importance Of Fate In Oedipus The King
In Oedipus the king the Prophets tells Oedipus about how his life will pan out and that there is
nothing that he can do about it. Oedipus, however thinks he can prove them wrong being the self
righteous person that he is. He believes that fate is not real and that it s all about free will and
individual decisions that lead to and determine the future. Oedipusis wrong for thinking that he can
change his fate because the world is controlled by fate not free will.
Do you know who your parents are? Unknowing you are an enemy to kith and kin in death,
beneath the earth, and in this life. A deadly footed, double striking curse, from father and mother
both, shall drive you forth out of his land, with darkness on your eyes, that now have such

not ring in echo to your cries, soon, soon when you shall learn the secret of your marriage,

The part of the play from which the quote is taken is from the prophet Teiresias telling Oedipus
his fate. His fate being that he was the reason for his fathers death, and that he would marry his
mother, have children who are also his brothers, and that the quest for the killer is pointless.

Community is lost because the citizens do not have the same goals, interests, or attitudes. The
people go their own way for wanting the same goals, interests, or attitudes. The passage in the
story shows that the people who started the fight are not in sync with what the bus driver is
trying to tell the men fighting, which is, to stop fighting. The author is trying to say in this
passage that if people do not have the same goals, interests, or attitudes people will not look out
for each other and this is seen throughout the story. This passage shows the loss of connection. In
the middle of the story when Rye mentions that the neighbor across from her wants Rye to tend
to his needs shows a loss of connection. Instead, she thought of the man who lived across the
street from her. He rarely washed since his bout with the illness. And he had gotten into the habit
of urinating wherever he happened to be. He had two women already one tending to each of his
large gardens. They put up with him in exchange for his protection. He had made it clear that he
wanted Rye to become his third women. (Butler, 572). The women and the men in this example
take it that there does not need to be a community since the epidemic happened. The author s
meaning was meant to be that people need a community and the loss of a community will destroy
people. People will be destroyed because they do not have a support system to help them

Bread And Roses Summary
In the book, Bread and Roses by Bruce Watson, the textile mill workers went on strike to stand
for what s right in Lawrence Massachusetts January 12, 1912. Nearly 30,000 textile workers
walked off their jobs, for 3 months. Workers were furious as they paraded, picketed and stood up
violently with authorities. As they demanded better working conditions, and pay to feed their
families. This strike shook America in many ways leaving Mill owners devastated without workers
to work in their textile mills.
There were strikes before and after but nothing like the Lawrence strike, it was a milestone for the
city, and broadly for labor history and the textile industry, and American immigration. About 27,000
workers were affected with immediate results as wage increased from five to twenty five percent,
overtime pay and a premium system . The aftermath of the strike rippled throughout New England
as textile workers were given a wage increase of five to seven percent. Many textile workers were
satisfied with the higher wages and the new conditions that were given. But it was not enough
because they were practically still poor with bad wages.
Working children in textile mills would get abused for not doing their job good enough or fast
enough in 1912. That wasn t freedom they would get punished for half the pay of a grown man
and that was not fair for the children because they were working to help out their family. Mill

Fire and Heat Imagery in Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre Essay
Fire and Heat Imagery in Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre
The essence of any true magnificent piece of literature is not what one can see in words. It is what
one can see behind the words. It is through the symbolism and imagery found in works of literature
that a reader can truly connect with the writer. Charlotte Bronte epitomizes the spirit of the unread
but understood in her Victorian work Jane Eyre. There have been numerous essays and theories
presented examining the complex symbolism and imagery used by Bronte in Jane Eyre. Much of
the imagery she uses concentrates on passion, fantasy, and the supernatural. In this essay I will

When Jane informed Mr. Rochester that she must leave him for the sake of both their souls, his
reaction was almost devil like, his voice and hand quivered: his large nostrils dilated; his eyes
blazed. These images of dilating nostrils and blazing eyes are typical of a devil like figure.
Rochester, the devil, attempts to convince Jane, the weak human, of going against God and sinning
their soul to hell.
To further convince Jane of staying with him, Rochester tells her than he ll put Adele in a
boarding school and get rid of Thornfield. He calls Thornfield this accursed place This tent of
Achan. In Joshua vii Achan took of the accursed thing , i.e., he took spoils of war from the
conquered city of Jericho, and concealed them in his tent. He and his family were ritually stoned
to death at the Lord s command as a result. Rochester s situation parallels that of Achan. He, like
Achan, wants to claim what is not his. He wants to lay hold on something that he has no right too
essentially Jane Eyre. Also, it is interesting that he refers to Thornfield as an accursed place. This
symbolizes a foreshadowing of the destruction of Thornfield later on in the novel.
Despite all this, Jane, as all humans, falls weak to matters of the heart. Fortunately, whenever her
resolve quivers, Bronte uses imagery of cleansing fire to strengthened her. For example, when Jane

The Evolution Of Micro Finance
CHAPTER 3: THE EVOLUTION OF MICRO FINANCE IN NIGERIA
3.0. Introduction:
In this section the need for Microfinance is discussed; the emergence and development of
microfinance in Nigeria is also reviewed. Finally the chapter discuss the ownership and
beneficiaries of microfinance in Nigeria.
3.1. The Need for Microfinance:
The unwillingness or inability of the formal financial institutions to provide financial services to the
urban and rural poor, coupled with the un sustainability of government sponsored development
financial schemes contributed to the growth of private sector led microfinance in Nigeria. Before
the emergence of formal microfinance institutions, informal microfinance activities flourished all
over the country. Informal microfinance is provided by traditional groups that work together for the
mutual benefits of their members. These groups provide savings and credit services to their
members. The informal microfinance arrangements operate under different names: esusu among
the Yorubas of Western Nigeria, etoto for the Igbos in the East and adashi in the North for the
Hausas (CBN, 2000). The key features of these informal schemes are savings and credit
components, informality of operations and higher interest rates in relation to the formal banking
sector.
The informal associations that operate traditional microfinance in various forms are found in all the
rural communities in Nigeria (Otu, et al, 2003) . They also operate in the urban centers. The

The disease first came to Europe when Italian trade ships returning from a journey through the
Black Sea docked a Sicilian port, and it was discovered that many of the seafarers possessed flu
like symptoms and black, pus filled blisters. This can be categorized under relocation expansion,
because the sailors brought the plague from one place to another with physical movement. Though
the ships were ordered to leave, the disease had already taken to the air and the water. It was so
highly contagious that even a touch of bacillus germ could kill a person within a day. In just five
years, the incredibly efficient disease killed 20 million people all over Europe, and the contagious
diffusion resulted in the death of one third of the population. The bubonic plague was eventually
subdued, but traces of the same bacteria that caused it can be traced to a recent Ebola outbreak, and
the underlying principals of that stimulus diffusion could potentially be profoundly hazardous in

Romeo And Juliet Dialectical Journal
Creative Title
Imagine if you were walking down the aisle on your wedding day which is meant to be the best
day ever, but the person at the end is a stranger. How would you like if the day you have been
waiting all your life is just practically handed to you and isn t even what you wanted or who you
wanted to be with. Well, this is actually how some people s lives happen for them. Such as they
have no say in who they marry because their parents are in control of it all. In Romeo and Juliet
this is the same situation that Juliet and Paris went through in the story. Like how Juliet s parents
wanted her to marry Paris at the age of fourteen. Juliet s family was for arranging marriage since
they were arranged when they got married, but on the other hand Juliet was very against the
whole idea of marrying at fourteen, especially since she was very in love with Romeo even though
their two families hated each other. This caused a lot of problems with Juliet s family and that she

This is a big deal when things are arranged for people even though some people don t see it. For
example, Tim Arango stated, I tried to kill myself, she said. I did not want to get married. I was
forced to get engaged (Arango). This is showing how the amount of stress put on people can
have severe endings leading to death. In like manner Arango also stated that, Officials are
alarmed by what they described as a worsening epidemic of suicides, particularly among young
women tormented by being forced to marry to young, to someone they do not love . So even
though some people do realize the amount of stress put on people it is still necessary that
everyone needs to realize what could happen if you force something to happen when it s not meant
to be. It s clear now that if you are doing this to someone that you could have more severe things

Linus Pauling Essay
Linus Pauling (1901 1994)
A master and maker in many fields, Linus Pauling lived a very long and productive life spanning
nearly the entire twentieth century. By the time he was in his twenties, he had made a name for
himself as a scientist. After many significant contributions including his work on the nature of the
chemical bond, he turned to chemical biology and is generally accepted as the founder of
molecular biology. Later in his life he became very involved in issues of politics and peace for
which he is somewhat less well known. In his later years, he became interested in health and
medicine and specifically in the use of vitamin C to prevent ailments from the common cold to
cancer.

Linus Pauling had an amazing ability to locate interesting problems and to think of various novel
solutions, eventually discarding some to arrive at the most satisfactory answer. He used to say that
it was easy to think of answers, but that the difficult part was deciding which were worth anything.
The questions that Pauling examined and the answers that he posited changed the way that we see
the world and the way that chemistry is taught and learned.
Linus Pauling s life and work are, to me, a source of inspiration. I have, for some time now, been
determined to become a scientist. I have always pursued my goals with tenacity and single
mindedness and can relate well with another who has done the same and with such great
success. Linus Pauling s work as well as his ability to convey his thoughts to large groups of
people is exemplary of the level to which I aspire. It is said that he was an exceptional lecturer
with a gift for communicating complex ideas (Goertzel Goertzel, 1995, xiv). Additionally, his
work on the chemical bond is most important to me because he wanted to understand something
fundamental about the world and was able to do this and to change the way that people for years
to come will learn chemistry and physics. I admire Pauling s versatility and ability to become
interested in very diverse areas of science and even other

Gender wage gap is the one type of discrimination that has received the most outcry. Wage gap
affects women of all races, especially African Americans and Hispanics. Your mother, your
sister, niece, aunt, grandmother and your daughters are affected by this gap in pay. Gender
wage gap affects everyone because it tell you that we all live in a society that judges someone s
worth based on thier sex and not their ability and qualifications. Hispanics and Latinos are paid
55 cents to an average man s dollar, an African American woman is paid 60 cents, a white
woman 77 cents to every man s dollar. Gender wage gap does not only focus on paying women
less but paying women that are minorities way less. This is a social problem that began years
ago, Although the government is making strides to eradicate gender wage gap we still have a
long way to go. This disparity should be everyone s concern not just women. This wage gap leaves
working woman and their familie shortchanged because the gap translates into $10,762 less per

Rules 4 Creating Power Point Presentation
10 Rules for Creating Successful Power Point Presentations
I ve blogged many times on how NOT to use Power Point. Most people use it incorrectly, and it
becomes a barrier between speaker and audience. For example, they create word slides, really
speaker notes, with many bullets of text, expecting what? the audience to read along with them? Or,
they go nuts with the animation, swoops, and flying headlines that make audiences dizzy to little
purpose. Or they use cheap looking clip art that creates a tacky image of speaker and organization
in the mind of the audience.
But what about the right way to use Power Point? What does that look like? Is there any right
way? Following are 10 rules for using Power Point successfully.

How Did Charlemagne A Unified Western Europe
Charlemagne, otherwise known as Charles the Great is often considered the Father of Europe.
From his accession AD 786 till his death in AD 814, Charles unified Western Europe and started
traditions that was preserved and reinforced for centuries to come. Charlemagne also restored the
Roman Empire, and considered himself Roman. Charlemagnewas crowned Emperor of the West on
December 25th 800 A.D. by Pope Leo the III, so in essence, he was a true Roman and had many
similar qualities to Roman emperors such as Constantine.
Charles was a powerful military strategist and began to conquer land and expand his empire,
spreading Christianity along the way. In 774 Charles conquered Lombardy and became the king of
the Lombards. Later in 786 he conquered the Saxons, further expanding his empire. In 796 Charles
added the empire of the Avars to his mighty kingdom. Charles now ruled from Spain to Rome,
unifying all of Western Europe. When Charlemagne died in 814, his empire got split up, however

unifying Europe through Christianity. Christianity after Charlemagne is seen throughout most of

Internet Fraud Is Greater Than Ever
ote In a world amid the buzzing and beeping of smart phones, laptops, and tablets, our susceptibility
now to internet fraud is greater than ever. It s not incredibly uncommon to hear of someone s
experience with separation anxiety over their mobile device. and although this may be common
nature and just scream of the attachment issues we ve developed with each new technological

the system is clear to see. We lock our doors as a method of protecting ourselves in our homes and
vehicles, but what measure provides the same sense of security online? The passwords we create

the four subfields. The study of Primatology focuses on the biological and psychological aspects of
non human primates. Also it looks at the similarities shared between humans and primates.

One of the items of the company, Item 345 a sole product for the company saw its price raised in

However, the competitors kept their price at FF15 for similar items and the company Lille

Indeed, if Lille Tissages, S.A maintains its price of FF20 the competitors might raise their prices
even if it gives them a competitive advantage if they are lower. But because they all have higher
costs and some of them are in tight financial straits they might consider an increase of their price.
However, this raise of the competitors might be benefit to Lille Tissages, S.A. Indeed, we know

Crime Rates In America
In society s day and age, Americans believe that crime has been steadily increasing. This
perspective is based on information provided to the public by criminologist. Our society relies
heavily on statistical data to measure criminality and the effectiveness of the laws that govern
society. This data is collected and formulated to create what is known as national crime reports.
These reports were implemented to improve the structure of the laws that govern our society. In
addition these reports record criminal activity, the type of crimes committed, the locations of
criminal trends, the volume of crimes committed, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

These reports are based only on the crimes that have been reported by victims or discovered by
police. In the cases of crimes that are less serious, the data used for these reports are that which
resulted in arrest only (not reported crimes). These reports do not include crimes that have not been
reported, have been omitted from these reports, or cases which prosecutors declined to prosecute
due to lack of evidence. Although these crimes are not indicated on these reports, they still
contribute to our society s criminality.
Another way that crime rates can be deceiving is the views between street crimes and white
collar crimes. To the public eye street crimes, which consist of crimes such as Murder, Rape,
Robbery, Assault, Kidnapping, Arson, etc. is the more devastating to society. Whereas white
collar crimes such as Embezzlement, Tax evasion, Price fixing, Bank fraud, Concealment of
product liabilities, etc. are not seen as detrimental to society. The UCR and NCVS reports tend
to focus more on street crime as apposed to white collar crimes. This can lead the public to
believe contrary to reality. When researching this comparison, we will find an overwhelming
disparity which shows that white collar crime affect society far worse than street crime in the form
of financial cost, property lose or damage, and personal injury or death (Robinson 2011).
In researching the topic of crime rates in America, I have learned that crime rates relate to

  • 2. School Uniforms Should Be Implemented Into The Nation School uniforms are increasingly popular across the nation. In fact, it becomes a huge controversial argument of communities rejecting these mandated school uniforms in their schools. However, school uniforms are not a negative thing; in fact, it could be positive in many ways by: eliminating cliques, saving money for parents, and taking away the bullying from students less fortunate. Meanwhile, on the other side of the argument, people believe that school uniforms will violate students freedom of expression, create a financial burden on families, and uniforms will not alleviate problems. However, with a solution that would benefit both parties, the public school systems in Oklahoma City district would benefit greatly if this policy were adopted in all the schools; since, the district only has 74 public schools in uniforms, while 17 schools are not. First of all, these school uniforms should be implemented into the rest of these 17 schools, because it would diminish economic and social barriers between students. For instance, people come from different social classes such as: Upper, Middle and Lower class. Many lower class families often cannot afford to purchase non essential items for their children; especially for school, many struggle just to purchase the necessity items such as: food, housing, transportation etc. According to the Oklahoma City Board of Education, if families are not able to afford school uniforms, these ways can help them get uniforms cheap; or at no ... Tannen And Sontag Women have historically been seen as sex objects while men have been seen as success objects. by Deborah Tannen s Marked Women and, A Woman s Beauty: Put Down or Power Source? by Susan Sontag, The Men We Carry in Our Minds by Scott Russell Sanders, and Man Bashing: Trivial Pursuits or a Truth with Consequences? by Warren Farrell discuss these two sides to gender roles. While Sanders and Farrell make some quality points about men s struggle in society, overall, Tannen and Sontag present a stronger argument about the challenges women face in today s society. Tannen and Sontag argue that women are made to be sex objects by society; they are pressured to try to look beautiful while also being degraded as superficial and inept. As Sontag ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sander s essay focuses on his childhood when men were working in manual labor jobs for the most part and women largely staying at home. This is not the case in today s society where women are also expected to get jobs most of the time. In this way, the burden on men to bring in the money has lessoned but women still face the pressure of being beautiful. Tannen exposes this more current set of problems for women when she discusses the expectation that women look presentable at work. She writes, The range of women s hairstyles is staggering, but a woman whose hair has no particular style is perceived as not caring about how she looks, which can disqualify her for many positions, and will subtly diminish her as a person in the eyes of some. Whereas men do not have to think about their hairstyles and general appearance for work men s hair has to be unusual to be marked and no makeup is unmarked for men women must consider how much makeup and what hair do they will do. Every style for women is marked and not taking the time to decide on a style marks a woman as not put together. Even the arguments that Farrell brings up for what problems men face in today s society which are often invalid seem inconsequential compared to the points Tannen and Sontag make about the daily struggles women face. Farrell makes points such as the one that self help writers voice only women s side of the argument about toilet seats being put down after men use the toilet. No one suggests thanking the man for putting it up so he gets nothing on it. And no one asks why a woman expects the toilet to always be as it is in women s rooms, and never as half the toilets are in men s rooms: urinals, he debates. Practically, his idea that all ... • 8. The Importance Of Workplace Diversity Workplace diversity is when there is diverse culture of individuals in the workplace. It is when there is a value placed on the variety of ideas, race, ethnicities, religion, gender, sexuality and orientation, which is flourishing in an environment. Depending on your employer and workplace, workplace diversitycan vary based off several different factors. Usually, there is a preferential standpoint taken on the matter and it can be either display a high or a low context cultureof diversity. According to Mason (2013) Workforce diversity has been described as a double edged sword; it has the potential for positive and negative outcomes (p.659). Workplace diversity is important in a business setting because it carries forward a combination of different types of people to worktogether in unity, encourages uniqueness, innovative, creative approaches, and supports interesting divergent ideas to accomplish tasks or goals. Benefits of a high workplace diversity environment is it not being stuck to conformity in group thinking, or being narrow minded with similar thoughts and having preference to only be around people who think like you do which is known as the diversity paradox . According to a quote stated from Friedrich Nietzsche, Hackett (2014) The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently (p. 415). Instead, it reiterates the importance of having a diverse workplace because it constructs better ideas, coming from different minds, and build upon each other through brainstorming. However, a poor workplace diversity can also adversely affect one s motivation, which leads to overall job dissatisfaction and demotivation. When there is poor workplace diversity, you can see less communication barriers and cultural resistance, but it also makes it harder for individuals to get used to working with others that aren t the same as them. This can become a form of adversity for businesses if their employees cannot develop a strong skill set to adapt with not only coworkers but also customers in the environment. Therefore, better communication and interaction skills are essential to promoting a business and making it successful. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. A Comparison Of Feminism In The Good Earth Gloria Steinem, an American journalist once said, A feminist is anyone who recognizes the equality and full humanity of women and men. This quote explains that any person who believes in feminism, believes in the idea that men and women should be treated equally. Feminism is the emphasis that women and men should not have divided opportunities. Feminism in literature is when authors use feminist beliefs in their characters. They use characters in their literature to show how the men and women are being treated equally, or how they are being treated unequally. Although it is difficult to see that feminism is showed in The Good Earth, Pearl Buck finds ways to show feminism differently throughout the female characters. O lan is one of the main characters and shows feminism in the novel. She was a slave in the House of Hwang before she became the Wife of Wang Lung. O lan helped Wang Lung achieve wealth, and she also helped their family survive during the famine. It said, All through the long months of winter she lay dying and upon her bed, and for the first time Wang Lung and his children knew what she had been in the house, and how she made comfort for them all and they had not known it (274). It was always expected for O lan to do the jobs around the house for the rest of the family, and when she died they finally realized how important she was to the household. This shows feminism because it is a belief that women are only known for performing household duties. Another ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Right Of Free Speech Throughout American history, the foundation on which American democratic principles are based, has been repeatedly tested. In the 1700s, the right of free speech was challenged when President John Adams proposed the Alien and Sedition Acts. Adams attempted to stop the Democratic Republicans such as Thomas Jefferson, from criticizing government decisions. Similarly, during the Civil War President Abraham Lincoln challenged freedom of the press when he took action to restrict the printing of military news. Lincoln ordered his generals in the field to control the press and crack down on speech critical of his administration to limit dissent against the war effort. However, one historical era stands out as a decidedly pivotal test of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Twentieth century U.S. history saw two major episodes of repression and violence against communists and leftist radicals, that occurred approximately three decades apart. During the early part of the 1920s, America entered its first period of extreme anti communist sentiment, the First Red Scare. After the successful Bolshevik Revolution in Russia in 1917, American citizens began to fear the threat of communist influence at home. At the end of WWI, American workers unhappy with wages and spiralling inflation, launched widespread sometimes violent strikes with the support of growing labor unions. Some of these unions called for government takeover of private industries. For instance, railroad workers called for the national government to take permanent control of the railroad system. The growing waves strikes signalled a period of extreme civil unrest; American citizens became frightened that they would face a revolution similar to the one that had just taken place in Russia. In response, Attorney General A. Mitchell Palmer, in an effort to gain the attention of American voters to support his presidential aspirations, launched a nationwide crusade against anyone he identified as having leftist views. Under Palmer s leadership, thousands of Americans were arrested for taking part in alleged subversion, and thousands of others were stripped of their civil liberties. In violation of ... • 11. Dubois and the Color Line Essay 3.) According to DuBois, the problem of the twentieth century is the problem of the color line. Using several representative examples, consider how American writers (of any color) since the Civil War have addressed this problem. DuBois s quote, The problem of the twentieth century is the problem of the color line, tells a great deal of how Americans in general felt towards segregation each side had suspicions about the goings ons of the other race. Blacks had a stronger sense of such hesitency because of their history with Whites, and Whites were generally afraid of anything different than themselves, thus the enslavement. Hughes, as a writer, dealt with this problem in a way that few had done, and fewer had done successfully ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This caused many blacks to feel shame for their roots and ancestral past, and a small but powerful voice in their mind whispered the words that Hughes called the Racial Mountain: I want to be white . Many blacks at the time could not feel anything but shame for their past, and Hughes wanted the opposing outlook on that scale to feel pride in being black; to recognize the true beauty within themselves which is where true being, and true art, can begin to flower and flourish. DuBois s story The Veil shows a concept that is visible on many levels. The veil can be seen as the literal darker skin of the black people, which is an easy way to identitify any race from any other race. This physical trait allows for discrimination solely because it is the easiest thing to point out. The veil also explores the idea of the White s lack of acceptance of Blacks as Americans, let alone real Americans. The veil also covers the notion of the Blacks inability to see themselves outside of what America (White Americans) had described them as. Then it dawned upon me with a certain suddeness that I was different from the others; or like [them perhaps] in heart and life and longing, but shut out from their world by a vast veil. I had thereafter no desire to tear down that veil, to creep through; I held all beyond it in common contempt, and lived above it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Holocaust Essay On The Holocaust The intense documentary Genocide reveals the suffering and pain that Jewish people went through. It also examines how the holocaust took place and what was brutally done to millions of innocent lives during this horrific time in our history. The implications of anti semitism on Canada leading up to WWII and the Holocaust was that Jews needed Canada s help and Canada said no. They followed the stereotypes of what Jews were perceived as and took in only 5000 Jewish refugees. Based on stereotypes, they took in the group of people that were the most beneficial to them and Jews were at the bottom of that list with Chinese and japanese people. There was anti semitism in Germany because of Hitler. While many do not understand the reason for his hatred against Jews he was the reason that caused anti semitism which was unnecessary. If Hitler had not created numerous laws discriminating against Jews, the Holocaust wouldn t have happened. He believed that Jews needed to be removed and were a problem. The world reacted to Hitler by believing what he said. Hitler was powerful and he was able to brainwash people. The world slowly listened to what was being told and agreed. If they weren t the group of people that Hitler targeted they didn t have to worry about anything and it was easier to just follow the crowd. The long term effects of the Holocaust was that it left thousands of people in mental and physical pain while killing millions of innocent people. Since, so many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Example Of Existentialism Existentialism is a movement in philosophy and literature that began in the mid to late 19th and reach its peak in mid 20th century, and was largely spread through the works of French existentialist like Jean Paul Sartre, Albert Camus and Simone de Beauvoir (Mastin L, 2008). There is no agreed definition of existentialism, as those who are considered as existentialist do not share the same exact thought on the subject though the starting point may be fairly linked. Jean Paul Sartre, defines existentialism as a school of thought where one s existence comes before his essence. Being an atheist existentialist, he argues that there is no God and that man existed first and defines himself afterwards. According to his biography, one of his famous poem The Waste Land, was written when he was facing some hardships in his life; his marriage was falling and he was suffering of nervous disorder. The physical and mental distress of the poet may provide an indication about the state of mind in which The Waste Land was written, which seems to have greatly influenced the choice of the title of the poem itself. The sub title The Burial of the Dead is equally troubling providing an obscure and dark atmosphere about the poem. It seems like the titles chosen act as a foretaste of what is to come ... Teacher Student Relationship With Students The Teacher Student Relationship School begins at age five, or for some even before that, and so begins the excruciating routine of waking up at an early hour to be ready to be at a place where you didn t ask to be, to be taught by an older stranger about something you don t understand. However, in the life of a human being this routine that goes on for years is essential to our lives, as well as those older strangers who teach about subjects that you don t understand. Those older strangers have the responsibility to pass on knowledge to their students and the given knowledge, whether taken or not, will determine their future. Is everyone comfortable or willingly to accept the teachings of a total stranger? Of course not, therefore this total stranger has to have an identification to the students, but not necessarily just a name. Teachers must develop a relationship with their students because teacher student relationships affect a student s academic excellence. As a student myself I witness the rebellious outburst of students that will at no end do everything, but be productive in class. What is the root of this refusal towards learning? This resistance to education is a nature acquired from the famous phrase that school is boring or school is hard and those rebellious students disengage themselves from the class and teacher. • 16. Repressing Words In Maya Angelou s Graduation Day You can not do it. You are not good enough. How often have these words torn down a person s self esteem and confidence. How often have these words stood in the way of a person s success, paralyzing that person in fear or disappointment. Maya Angelou knew this feeling well in her story, Graduation Day. The excitement and pride of graduating is taken away by one man s words. These words lead the audience to believe that they are worthless. However, repressive words only possess power when allowed. It is unquestioned that repressing words affect how a person views him or herself. Words can go as far as to change the whole tone of a day. Angelou recounts the day with vivid details of laughter, pride, and joy. However, these feelings are replaced within moments, when one man s speech reminds the people of their oppression. Repressing words take control when the subject of attack forgets his or her worth. This stance is proven on page 186 of Graduation Day. Angelou states, The man s dead words fell like bricks around the auditorium... the proud graduating class of 1940 had dropped their heads. Donleavy had exposed us. The entire auditorium allowed themselves to be subjected to the beliefs of one man, allowing themselves to reform to what the speaker was claiming. Often words such as these leave a person feeling defenseless. It was brutal to be young and already trained to sit quietly and listen to charges brought against my color with no chance at defense. Colored people trained at a young age, believed that their race stood no chance at equality. While repressive words have power, that power is dependent upon the individual. It does not have to stay that way. When faced with repression, an individual has two choices. It is typical for a person to allow those words to become their reality. Angelou began to define her race as worthless. She conformed to the ideas of others, stirring up feelings of hatred. She goes as far to say, We were an abomination. All of us (Angelou, 2014, p.186 ). The power of repression is once again evident. While not as popular, there is a second choice. This choice is demonstrated when a person does not allow words of repression to define their worth. The quality of lighting effects how the products looks, and how clients will perceive it. Ultimately, lighting effects whether a client will purchase your products or not. Even with the enormous set of visual environmental cues present in retail environments, lightingdoes play a significant role in creating an ambiance. This quote by Yvonne De Kort is expressing the importance of lighting in a retail space and the effects it has on a spaces ambiance. Lighting effects how everyone feels and changes the ways we interact in spaces. I am going to go through the showrooms I observed and reflect what I learned about the types of lighting fixtures and lighting layers in showrooms. RESEARCH In showrooms it s important to include all form of lighting (general, task, and decorative) into the space to create a cohesive lighting design that showcases the products that are being lit. Lighting can be used to direct focus to certain products, and create paths for customers to follow. It is good to consider the flexibility of the fixtures placed, to allow for adjustment when store displays are changed. Making sure the color rendering of the lamps is high quality, so the clients know what the products actually look like. • 19. Comparing Dante Alighieri s Inferno And The Faerie Queene Both Dante Alighieri s Inferno and Edmund Spenser s The Faerie Queene depict wooded forests wrought with transformed men as trees. In the Inferno and The Faerie Queene an existential conundrum of compromised identities leaves Pier della Vigne and Fraudubio sans human choice. Dehumanized and disfigured, the individuals that comprise the trees still retain human qualities like talking, breathing, and, even, bleeding under certain circumstances. Within each space, whether it is considered a definite locus amoenus or a locus horribilis, the most significant human attribute to which these trees cling is bleeding and thus they have a small handful of feelings and emotions still within each of them. Instead of their ripped branches symbolizing death and decay, the breaking of the branches within Inferno13 and The Faerie Queene1.2, give the trees life as if nothing has changed. While the bleeding infers a loss of identity in both, redeemable only for one of the two, it also lets their stories be told. Their stories, sad in nature, have redemptive qualities and move the two pilgrims that listen to their doleful tales. The Inferno illustrates the journey of Dante the pilgrim as he travels through the nine circles of Hell wherein each circle objectifies a specific sin like lust, gluttony, greed or violence; there the sinners endure eternal punishment. • 20. Reflection On The Inclusion Improvement Plan Reflection is an important part of the planning process. Ongoing learning and reflective practice is one of the five principles of the early years learning Framework (DEEWR, 2010. p. 7). It gives the educators an opportunity to look at the planning process, the successful areas of planning, the areas of improvement and progress and to get motivated to work better for the learning of children. The following reflection will highlight the merits of implementing the inclusionimprovement plan, some of the issues that impact on educators capacity to provide an inclusive care environment and how can the educators manage the competing demands of inclusion of children with additional needs, with the demands of providing an inclusive environment for all children. The inclusion improvement plan for Joshua caters to his special needs to a large extent. For example, Joshua is a child with autism. The term autism loosely groups a range of spectrums that share the characteristics of difficulties in socialisation, communication and repetitive and restricted behaviour (EDU 30005, 2016). Children with special needs were not considered to be a part of the education system and were being labeled as gifted or handicapped. While most tragedies following this genre concern themselves with the authority of those in the noble court, Arden of Favershams primary concern is with the authority within their own home. As theatre began shifting away from the political sphere in the Elizabethan period and focused more on comedic and tragic genres, playwrights were able to feature more intimate and domestic issues in their spectacles, but still regarded courtly settings as the appropriate setting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is demonstrated after Gaveston reads the letter brought to him from the king, as he states, What greater blisse can hap to Gaveston,/ Then live and be the favorit of a king? (Edward I.I 4 5). This letter is calling Gaveston back to Edward s court, Gaveston s exile and return is a reoccurring theme throughout the play. Marlowe constructs this play through the characterization of his characters, as the king searches for his identity in his relationship with Gaveston. The play itself opens with a soliloquy by Gaveston, My father is deceast ; come, Gaveston,/ And share the kingdom with thy deerest friend (Edward I.I. 1 2), yet these first two lines are actually the words of the king, interplaying the relationship with the king, and the role of the courtly world. However, while Arden and its characters stray from the courtly world created in Edward II and The Spanish Tragedy, the author of Arden does not keep this consistent throughout. For example, although Arden is unconventionally not of noble birth, he does marry Alice who was descended of a noble house (Arden I.202). Although the play is not directly representing a concern with state issues and territories, The playwright of Arden uses irony, as seen in the passage, My saving husband hoards up bags of gold/ To make our children rich (Arden I. 220 1). The irony represented in this statement is magnified as it was Alice who claims that her husband saving money for their next generation, yet she is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. The Importance Of Fate In Oedipus The King In Oedipus the king the Prophets tells Oedipus about how his life will pan out and that there is nothing that he can do about it. Oedipus, however thinks he can prove them wrong being the self righteous person that he is. He believes that fate is not real and that it s all about free will and individual decisions that lead to and determine the future. Oedipusis wrong for thinking that he can change his fate because the world is controlled by fate not free will. Do you know who your parents are? Unknowing you are an enemy to kith and kin in death, beneath the earth, and in this life. A deadly footed, double striking curse, from father and mother both, shall drive you forth out of his land, with darkness on your eyes, that now have such straight vision. Shall there be a place will not be harbor to your cries, a corner of Cithaeron will not ring in echo to your cries, soon, soon when you shall learn the secret of your marriage, ...Misery shall grind, no man as it will you. (Sophocles 484 501). The part of the play from which the quote is taken is from the prophet Teiresias telling Oedipus his fate. His fate being that he was the reason for his fathers death, and that he would marry his mother, have children who are also his brothers, and that the quest for the killer is pointless. Another quote that provides better clarification of Oedipus s prophecy is in lines 530 through 541 where it is as follows: he ll have no joy in discovering: blindness for sight and beggary for ... • 33. The Loss Of Community And Connection I am going to discuss two examples showing the loss of community and connection. I will discuss an example of each. I will try to figure out what the author s meaning was, what the characters in the story took it as, if the situation shows the loss of community or connection. Also, I will discuss the ways that the story shows how either community or connection has been lost in the story and what that means in the story. In Speech Sounds by Olivia Butler talks about how the community /connection is lost when there is a loss of language. The first example of the story shows that there is a loss of community. The first example of the loss of community is when the bus driver stops suddenly to stop the first fight but a second fight starts up... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Community is lost because the citizens do not have the same goals, interests, or attitudes. The people go their own way for wanting the same goals, interests, or attitudes. The passage in the story shows that the people who started the fight are not in sync with what the bus driver is trying to tell the men fighting, which is, to stop fighting. The author is trying to say in this passage that if people do not have the same goals, interests, or attitudes people will not look out for each other and this is seen throughout the story. This passage shows the loss of connection. In the middle of the story when Rye mentions that the neighbor across from her wants Rye to tend to his needs shows a loss of connection. Instead, she thought of the man who lived across the street from her. He rarely washed since his bout with the illness. And he had gotten into the habit of urinating wherever he happened to be. He had two women already one tending to each of his large gardens. They put up with him in exchange for his protection. He had made it clear that he wanted Rye to become his third women. (Butler, 572). The women and the men in this example take it that there does not need to be a community since the epidemic happened. The author s meaning was meant to be that people need a community and the loss of a community will destroy people. People will be destroyed because they do not have a support system to help them ... Nearly 30,000 textile workers walked off their jobs, for 3 months. Workers were furious as they paraded, picketed and stood up violently with authorities. As they demanded better working conditions, and pay to feed their families. This strike shook America in many ways leaving Mill owners devastated without workers to work in their textile mills. There were strikes before and after but nothing like the Lawrence strike, it was a milestone for the city, and broadly for labor history and the textile industry, and American immigration. About 27,000 workers were affected with immediate results as wage increased from five to twenty five percent, overtime pay and a premium system . The aftermath of the strike rippled throughout New England as textile workers were given a wage increase of five to seven percent. Many textile workers were satisfied with the higher wages and the new conditions that were given. But it was not enough because they were practically still poor with bad wages. Working children in textile mills would get abused for not doing their job good enough or fast enough in 1912. Fire and Heat Imagery in Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre Essay Fire and Heat Imagery in Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre The essence of any true magnificent piece of literature is not what one can see in words. It is what one can see behind the words. It is through the symbolism and imagery found in works of literature that a reader can truly connect with the writer. Charlotte Bronte epitomizes the spirit of the unread but understood in her Victorian work Jane Eyre. There have been numerous essays and theories presented examining the complex symbolism and imagery used by Bronte in Jane Eyre. Much of the imagery she uses concentrates on passion, fantasy, and the supernatural. When Jane informed Mr. Rochester that she must leave him for the sake of both their souls, his reaction was almost devil like, his voice and hand quivered: his large nostrils dilated; his eyes blazed. Rochester, the devil, attempts to convince Jane, the weak human, of going against God and sinning their soul to hell. To further convince Jane of staying with him, Rochester tells her than he ll put Adele in a boarding school and get rid of Thornfield. He calls Thornfield this accursed place This tent of Achan. In Joshua vii Achan took of the accursed thing , i.e., he took spoils of war from the conquered city of Jericho, and concealed them in his tent. He wants to lay hold on something that he has no right too essentially Jane Eyre. Also, it is interesting that he refers to Thornfield as an accursed place. This symbolizes a foreshadowing of the destruction of Thornfield later on in the novel. Despite all this, Jane, as all humans, falls weak to matters of the heart. • 53. Crime Rates in America Crime Rates In America Elliot H. Maysonet CJA/204 08 April 2013 Prof. Ron Alter Crime Rates In America In society s day and age, Americans believe that crime has been steadily increasing. This perspective is based on information provided to the public by criminologist. Our society relies heavily on statistical data to measure criminality and the effectiveness of the laws that govern society. This data is collected and formulated to create what is known as national crime reports. These reports were implemented to improve the structure of the laws that govern our society. In addition these reports record criminal activity, the type of crimes committed, the locations of criminal trends, the volume of crimes committed, and the ... In the cases of crimes that are less serious, the data used for these reports are that which resulted in arrest only (not reported crimes). These reports do not include crimes that have not been reported, have been omitted from these reports, or cases which prosecutors declined to prosecute due to lack of evidence. Although these crimes are not indicated on these reports, they still contribute to our society s criminality. Another way that crime rates can be deceiving is the views between street crimes and white collar crimes. To the public eye street crimes, which consist of crimes such as Murder, Rape, Robbery, Assault, Kidnapping, Arson, etc. is the more devastating to society. Whereas white collar crimes such as Embezzlement, Tax evasion, Price fixing, Bank fraud, Concealment of product liabilities, etc. are not seen as detrimental to society. The UCR and NCVS reports tend to focus more on street crime as apposed to white collar crimes. This can lead the public to believe contrary to reality. When researching this comparison, we will find an overwhelming disparity which shows that white collar crime affect society far worse than street crime in the form of financial cost, property lose or damage, and personal injury or death (Robinson 2011). In researching the topic of crime rates in America, I have learned that crime rates relate to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Along with trying to survive the undead, the main characters also encounter many conflicts with other survivors.
