 An object is said to be in motion if it
changes its position with respect to
time and surroundings .
 There are 2 types of motion :
 Uniform motion
 Non – uniform motion
 An object is said to be in uniform motion if it covers
equal distances in equal intervals of time .
 An object is said to be in a non – uniform motion if
it covers equal distances in unequal intervals of time
or it covers unequal distances in equal intervals of
time .
 There are certain quantities upon which motion
depends , these includes :
 Distance
 Displacement
 Velocity / speed
 Time
 Accelaration
 Distance is the total length of the path covered by an
object during motion . The SI unit of distance is ‘m’
.
 Displacement is the shortest distance between initial
and final position.
 Speed of a body is defined as the distance covered by a body
divided by the time taken to cover the distance .
 Velocity is defined as the displacement covered by the body
divided by the time taken to cover the displacement
