How Western was Russia The question is not is not whether Russia was a western nation, it is to how
Western was Russia? This question has no set answer, it changes over time. Often times, throughout
history, situations change, often times change is made in order to perfect imperfect systems. Russia is
no different in this regard. Russia was less Westernized under the Mongols and the rule of the Ivan s
up through Ivan IV, but became more westernized under the rule of Peter I. Russia under the rule of
the Mongols was not Western in any significant way. The Mongol ruler over Russia were by Khans, ...

His accession to the throne appears to be a turning point. There appears to be a very small softening of
attitudes and the style of rule used in regards to governing Russia. He sought to make nobles do their
duty instead of merely leaching of the labor of serfs and of the state budget. Nobles were required to
work and be productive such as performing service in either the military or in the government.
Additionally Peter I also known as Peter the Great tried to gain the support of his people instead of
ruling through force alone. He did this by explaining the decisions he made. This does not result in a
participatory government but it does seek to remove the veil of secrecy that lingered over it. This was
a small step towards the style of certain Western Governments such as the United Kingdom where the
monarch was constrained by parliament. Albeit explanations did not allow popular participation in
government, it was progress. Progress does not come over night; it is often the product of small
changes such as

Persuasive Essay On Voting In America
Brooke Lowery
Mr. Bare

AP Gov.
Voting in America According to past studies done, only roughly 55% of registered voters actually
vote. the other 45% may have just not wanted to vote, or they may have not been able to for multiple
reasons. Ever since America was founded, there have always opticals put up intentionally to restrict
voting without clearly stating that they are restricting voting. If America claims that we are a
democracy , which according to the dictionary is a system of government by the whole population or
all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives , then America should
make it easier to vote so all citizens can be included in the choices of our country. Ways to make this
possible is by fixing the voter ID laws, create automatic registration, and change the voting date.
Restrictive voting laws have been around since ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first major law passed to restrict voting was created in 1889. This is the year that the country
passed to make a poll tax. This meant that anyone who wanted to vote had to pay a tax when they
went to vote. This was mostly to keep black people from voting, as well as the poor white people.
Thankfully people realized that this was not right, and it was abolished in 1964 under the court case of
Harper v. Virginia Board of Elections. The most recent restrictive voting law is Voter ID Laws. These
are put into place by individual states, starting as far back as 1977 in the states of Georgia and Florida.
These laws state that in order for a person to vote, they must show proof of Identity such as a driver s
license, a gun/ hunters license, a birth certificate, social security card, etc. This is to prevent voting
fraud, which according to the Washington Post, only happened four times in the past election. These
laws were put up to restrict those who cannot afford any sort of

Dog Park Building
I firmly support the building of a public dog park in the residential area in the city of Muscatine, Iowa.
Apartment buildings have very little yard space, which leaves the only exercise alternative a daily
walk in the neighborhood. I have lived in cities that have ordinances with no dogs aloud off leash in
public areas, it makes exercising dogs properly very difficult. My dog used to go crazy when I couldn
t get her the proper exercise after being cooped up all day.
Exercise is very important to dog s mental and physical health. Being socialized around other dogs is
important for proper behavioral issues to avoid attacking a strange dog or a person. New York City
reports the use of off leash dog parks lowered the dog bite incidents from 40,000 to fewer than 4,000
per year. Those numbers show over 90% decrease in reported incidents, making safety an added bonus
for the neighborhood residents as well. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
animal shelters house 2 million pet dogs due to bad behavior, and the dogs being lonely or poorly
exercised is partly responsible for these numbers. I used to go to the local shelters and visit all the
dogs abandoned or mistreated because of these reasons. Pet owners would be less likely to let their
dogs loose in empty lots or city parks to exercise. Everyone in the community would benefit with
higher property values, as statistics show that 37% of Americans who own dogs usually look for a
place to live with a dog park close by.
I agree that a dog park would benefit all, I think the city should vote to build a dog park

Growing Up Essays
What does it mean to grow up? Does it mean washing your car, paying your bills, getting a job? Does
it mean getting married, having kids, and sprouting gray hair? Is it necessary? Is everyone capable of
it? Is it going to be hard and will it be worth the effort? All of these questions are probably what made
Peter Pan decide to never leave Neverland. Growing up means a lot of different things to many
different people. If we look at the words growing up , we simply think of the physical aspect of
ageing, growing tall and wide. But for most people, growing up means something deeper involving a
change in the approach that an individual has to life and the actions that are taken with it. In this essay,
we will look at why people have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They can t just be told. Mistakes are made and we are held accountable. Such mistakes could include
simple things when we are young like hitting your younger sibling, or they could be as adults like not
paying your bills. Sometimes, we have to make the mistake in order to be able to correct it. We look at
the mistake we made, for example, cheating on a test. We are pleased with the score. However, we see
that we did not receive the grade that was deserved. The other students all put in long hours of
studying and in turn earned their good grades. When something like this happens an immature person
would not think much of it and move on, but a person who has grown spiritually into a person with
morals will not feel comfortable with this result, and probably not do it again. That is one form of
growing up. It is important to feel responsibility for the actions that have been taken. The next step is
reacting in a productive way to that responsibility. In order to assume responsibility, we have to have a
sense of right and wrong which is only naturally learned by living life. When responsibility is
accepted, we have begun to see the truth and reality of our situation, as Peck describes. Dedication to
truth is heavily involved with the concept of accepting responsibility because for people to see blame
in themselves, they have to have a clear plane of reality that shows the necessity of a solution from
them. The eyes have to be

Rules In Anthem By Ayn Rand
Beyond Anthem s Society s Rules, Controls, and Boundaries
In the critically acclaimed novel, Anthem, written by Ayn Rand, the main character, Equality 7 2521,
faces countless difficulties throughout the course of the book. In this dystopian society created by Ayn
Rand, there are numerous rules, controls, and boundaries that are set by leaders of Equality s
community to keep the peace in the city. These alleged rules are Equality s main conflict in the novel,
due to his vast curiosity. Each of these rules have a reason for existence and have a purpose in
Equality s society. At the end of the book, the society Equality dreams of building with Liberty would
not include these rules for several reasons. Some reasons include that Equality doesn t want We to
exist like it did before, Equality wants to promote individuality, and Equality wants to promote
freedom. Foremost, Equality doesn t want We to be used like it was in his former ... Show more

The fortune of my spirit is not to be blown into coins of brass and flung to the winds as alms for the
poor of the spirit. I guard my treasures: my thought, my will, my freedom. And the greatest of these is

HPV_ Human Papillomavirus
If I told you that Human papillomavirus (HPV) was the most common sexually transmitted disease in
the United States and if left untreated could cause 70% of cervical cancers, would you want children
to be required to get the vaccine? (Sourced) HPV vaccine is very controversial, not only because it is
starting to be mandatory in the U.S but also because it is only mandatory for female children to get it.
Researchers claim that the cancers associated with HPV cost $3.7 billion in 2003 alone. (Source)
Cervical cancer is the second most lethal cancer to all women but should it be mandatory for only one
gender even though men can carry it as well? (source) The disease specifically affects those in poverty
and results in higher rates of cancer in black and Hispanic women. (Source) Some states are starting to
require female students in public schools to receive vaccination for HPV by the sixth grade. (Source)
When public schools become advocates for a vaccination, it tends to be a big ordeal and starts to catch
on. This virus is showing just how complex and controversial making a vaccine mandatory can be.
Parents are starting fear that making it a requirement is implicitly condoning sex before marriage or
sex with multiple partners. (source)Media is starting to show that it plays a big part as well because
during the CNN Tea party Republican presidential debate on September 13, 2011, that mandate came
under fire when candidate Michele Bachman claimed that the vaccine was dangerous

E.E. Cummings
Since the beginnings of the literature love has been one of the most important themes for the writers
and accordingly for the readers. Not only did the poets impose themselves the immensely difficult task
to describe the notion of love, but they also left the readers with the enjoyable but not easy thing that
is the deciphering the meaning of their descriptions. It is how the American poet, prosaic and
dramatist, Edward Estlin Cummings, behaved by giving people the interesting image of love in the
poem starting with the words: #8220;love is more thicker than forget #8230; #8221;. In this essay I
will endeavour to analyse and interpret his vision of love. At the beginning I would like to focus on
the structure of this poem. It includes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From this one may draw the conclusion, that love consists of all those things together, but as they
acquired wider meanings by adding adjectives, love is something that can not be recognized by our
senses. Because can we see, smell, touch, hear or taste something that is #8220;more seldom than a
wave is wet #8221;, or #8220;less always than to win #8221;? Or is it possible to explore #8220;the
sea which only is deeper than the sea #8221; or #8220;the sky which only is higher than the sky
#8221;? The answer is simple: no. People are only able to imagine those abstract phenomena, to feel
and understand them in mind. The same is with love #8211; it can not be smelled, touched, seen, etc.
in the literary meaning #8211; it transcends the real world and can only be described in ourselves,
using abstract notions. And by having no punctuation marks one may read this poem quicker, without
stops for comas, full stops. It may indicate the fact that love is the emotion inclusive all those
phenomena in the same time, that they are not in contrastive opposition #8211; where one occurs the
other can be found there as well. Furthermore, it may be said that while being in love one notice and
realizes the new meaning of the world, the meaning than is more than the one understood by someone
who has never loved.

Essay on Explaining Crime
Explaining Crime
A) One Biological explanation of crime is Low intelligence. Studies have tended to link between low
IQ and crime, although the link is not a simple one. Rutter and Giller (83) suggest two possible links.
Once is that low intelligence leads to educational failure and consequently low self esteem. This then
manifests as emotional; disturbances, conduct disorders and criminal behaviour. The second is that
intelligence and conduct disorders may have a common starting point which is not clear, for eg
neurophysiological. Also, more recent studies do tend to find that the average intelligence is below
average (e.g. an IQ of 92 compared to a norm of 100).
One sociological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sutherland was describing powerful social forces working on the individual and affecting skills
attitudes and beliefs.
B) In Evaluation biological explanations of crime help us to understand how genetic potential can lead
to problems such as poor achievement at school and inadequate socialization, which may in turn result
in criminality. It helps people to understand that criminals are not always fully responsible for their
behaviour is a result of internal factors. These theories are generally simplistic, taking only one factor
(biology) into account. It is very unlikely that criminal behaviour can be reduced to a biological
explanation alone. They also ignore or underestimate the social causes of crime such as antisocial role
models and an emotionally deprived childhood. In particular more recent studies do find that criminals
have a lower IQ in comparison to non criminals but this difference is only small and so could be due
to chance. Also, it should be questioned whether IQ is an accurate measure of intelligence or not.
In evaluation for the sociological explanations the theories are based on carefully conducted research
which clearly demonstrates the influence of reinforcement and observation on behaviour. These
theories can also help to explain why criminality does to an extent run in families. There is a
considerable body of

Anxiety Essay
Anxiety is one of the most common mental illnesses effecting nearly 15 million people. Symptoms of
anxiety can vary from minor to major effects depending on the victim. Teenager Georgiann Steely has
had anxiety since a child (Landro 1). There are many types of anxiety ranging from social to phobic
anxiety. Anxiety affects many people in today s society. To understand and treat it, one must look at its
causes, the effect on the victims, and how it is currently treated.
Throughout the years, the amount of people diagnosed with anxiety has increased. Because of this,
many are trying to figure out its causes. Many people do not fully understand anxiety as a whole,
thinking that it is a sporadic or one time occurrence. Anxiety is a disorder where ... Show more content

Throughout the past years medical research has advanced concerning mental illnesses. Treatments for
anxiety has been created based on research found on how to tackle anxiety. A common treatment is
medication. Two common medications for anxiety is serotonin reuptake inhibitor, and serotonin
norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. Although other drugs are used, these are the most common (
Treatment ). This suggests that since medications are the most common, more severe symptoms may
need extra treatment. Anxiety has multiple treatments including psychotherapy. Psychotherapy has
multiple branches, one being cognitive behavioral therapy, which focuses on management of
symptoms and skills to help relaxation. Another would be cognitive restructuring, which enforces
positive thinking, along with coping plans for certain situations (Landro 2). This passage suggests that
psychotherapy takes a personalized approach for treating anxiety. Although the treatments main focus
is to better the patient, it leaves a lot for the victim s family and future. Treatments make take a while
to help, which leaves victims feeling worse ( Depression 2). This can lead one to conclude that
because episodes are likely to occur, families must be extra careful to watch and support the victim in
the future. Anxiety treatments range from medication to therapy. Victims may experience relapses in
the future and it s important to continuously check up on

Lady Boss Essay
The Lady Boss: Women In Entrepreneurship and Procurement
Women entrepreneurs are making their mark in entrepreneurship. According to facts from the National
Women s Business Council, women owned firms are growing and are continuing to help in employing
people. Women are also becoming active in the entrepreneurship world and they contribute their
different style compared to men entrepreneurs.
Some women entrepreneurs are confident to thrive in a male dominated industry while other women
entrepreneurs cater to other women and their concerns, needs and wants. In both aspects, women play
the game and they have the chance to be successful. Women are slowly taking the path of
entrepreneurship and most often make the transit from employer or housewife to a full fledged
entrepreneur in their own right. And such opportunities are not denied to them.
The SBA and the WOSB
The woman entrepreneur can have a lot of help in creating and building her business. The foremost
help can be from the Small Business Administration (SBA). The agency created a program, the
Woman Owned Small Business or WOSB, to help women entrepreneurs in terms of procurement and
purchasing.
The government, with the WOSB program, helps women and their businesses by setting aside and
giving them federal contracts. Businesses that qualify are characterized as business owned and run by
female entrepreneurs. The program also has its own certification called Woman Owned Small
Business (WOSB) program certification. The

In the last week, we just got an idea about the network configuration which we are going to implement
in the organization. As per the requirement, we have to implement 150 cameras in the network. So we
have to have huge bandwidth in our network to transfer the data from 150 cameras. By implementing
the technology called Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN), we can save the bandwidth of our LAN.
VLAN means a group of devices on one or more logically segmented LANs (configured by use of
management software), enabling devices to communicate as if attached to the same physical medium,
when they are actually located on numerous different LAN segments. VLANs are based on logical
instead of physical connections and thus are tremendously flexible.
There are two types of VLANs.
1. End to End VLANs
2. Local VLANs
End to End VLANs
The term end to end VLAN refers to a single VLAN that is associated with switch ports that are
widely dispersed throughout an enterprise network on multiple switches. A Layer 2 switched campus
network carries traffic for this VLAN

Humanitarian Intervention In The Rwanda Genocide
In addition to the moral reasons for humanitarian intervention, the increasingly globalized nature of
the world means that there are many practical benefits to reinforcing a country s responsibility to
protect it s people. In this day and age, isolationism is no longer a valid foreign policy strategy as the
actions of one country are inexorably linked to those surrounding it. From a revolution in
communications to increasingly efficient and affordable methods of high speed transport technology,
people are able to connect with others from all points on the planet. The proliferation of transnational

Persuasive Essay On Trapped In America
Trapped in America For an American citizen my freedom is determined by the government, making
me question if I am truly free. Arguably many Americans have a political dispute over our free, if our
country is free or not. No doubt, I am by the side that thinks we aren t free. We aren t even close to
being free, we aren t a country who based our idea of being free and let people come into our country
to feel safe and to feel at home. The land of the free and the home of the brave (Francis Scott Key) is
the national anthem, it is saying men and women are free and we are a strong country that doesn t give

How the number of maggots in mass affects the temperature of the mass and development of the
mass?
Larvae can form feeding masses on a corpse and can generate an enormous amount of heat. They
develop slower at lower temperatures and more rapidly at higher temperatures because metabolic rate
is more active at higher temperatures and slower at lower temperatures. As larvae are poikilothermic
(cold blooded) the major factor which can increase the metabolic activity of them is external
temperature.
How temperature affects enzymes?
Enzymes are very large globular proteins with three dimensional shapes which is vital for enzyme
activity as natural catalyst in chemical reactions within the living organisms (7).
The rate of enzyme catalyzed reaction increases as the temperature is raised (). An increase of
temperature by 1 2 degrees may introduce changes of 10% 20% in the results. As the temperature
increases the kinetic energy that molecules possess increases as well. This results in more random
collisions of substrate and enzymes increasing rate of the chemical reaction, more product is formed
(6). The metabolic rate of an organism increases, hence it develops faster. However metabolic activity
of the larvae cannot be responsible for high mass temperatures which affect larval development. The
heat produced by larvae is normally heat to regulate body temperature.
Increasing in temperature also increases the vibrating energy in molecules. High temperatures can
denature

African Americans And Asian Americans
Model Minority has become a frequently used terms to categorize other cultures and systemize their
relationship to the rest of the world. Defined properly, model minority refers to minority groups that
have rates of socio economic assimilation and achieved a high level of success in today s western
society. The term has been used most often to describe Asian Americans, group seen as having
attained economic and education success at significantly higher rates than that of other minority
groups. Although first coined by sociologist William Petersen in 1966, the term model minority was
not popularized and nationalized as a reference to Asian Americans through radio and television

The Condition of Children Orange County report states that in the 2011 2012 academic year, 7.4% of
Asian students dropped out of high school, which is higher than their white peers (4.6%). Because of
this, many schools do not accurately monitor, record, and report the dropout rates among Asian
Americans. As a result, many school districts throughout the nation do not realize the significant
number of Asian students they are losing because of a stereotype (Walker Moffat, 1995). In addition to
underachievement and growing dropout rates among Asian Americans, the increasing socioeconomic
gap between Asians and whites also made the model minority stereotype problematic. According to
U.S. Census Bureau, the poverty rates among Asian American groups (12.6%) remain elevated
compared to that of their white counterparts and the overall national average (12.4%).
The negative effects of the model minority myth and stereotypes are also evident in secondary and
post graduate education. Research shows that the false representation of Asian students has evolved
into the inaccurate view and additional stereotype that Asian students achieve their success through
dishonest means and threaten the success of their academic peers (Suzuki, 2002). For example, the
increased profiling of Asian students in higher education has resulted in directly adverse learning
environments that place additional negative views on their success (Yeh, 2002). Numerous

Evolution Of The Freeway System Essay
The Evolution of the Freeway System in Los Angeles
Society has always been a continuous community of movement; trying to get from one place to
another. Commuting citizens, cargo and information has always been a significant contributor to the
economic and societal life of many municipalities. From the industrial age, society has been
progressively reliant on different transportation systems in order to accomplish trade, distribution of
supplies, tourism and so on. As the suburban sprawl continues to expand, technology advances. The
resources needed to attain successful transportation has evolved over many historical revolutions to
accommodate a growing population and the immense density of a growing city. Developments in
mechanics has permitted people to move faster with greater amount of supplies and travel longer
distances, but not without challenges. Urban planners have an outlying role in freeway development
that explains the challenges needed to be overcome to excel in successful transportation services.
Urban planners have the duty to conduct political negotiations between different levels of the
government to excel and expand our urban society. Information needed to fully understand the
evolution will demonstrate the importance and impact freeway systems have on urban and suburban
lifestyles.
The decision to start implementing a system that allows automobiles to quickly get through regulated
traffic by using different roads that are composed together, will result in

The child I observed for the project was my five year old cousin. The activity I observed her doing is
playing dress up. She likes to dress up as batgirl, wear capes, and dress up as Elsa from Frozen
because they both have brown hair. This is a prime example Piaget s preoperational state of cognitive
development. This stage is described as when a child uses symbolic thinking, use of proper syntax and
grammar to express full concepts. When she comes to our house she also enjoys riding her bike,
coloring, playing games, and playing at the park. My mom helps her make homemade play doe; this
allows her to learn how to make things. The combinations of those activities are good for intellectual,
emotional, and physical growth.

On The Other Hand, Banks Also Face Some Negative Aspects
On the other hand, banks also face some negative aspects to online banking. One disadvantage is that
they lose the one on one interaction with their customers. If people no longer need to visit the bank to
conduct their transactions, the banks lose that special connection that they once had with their
customers and for some customers they value that personal connection. Additionally, from the banks
perspective, they do not get the opportunity to develop personal relations with their customers. The
more personable the banks are with their customers the more secure their customers accounts may be.
The bank tellers will be more able to keep a better watch on their clients accounts and may be able to
detect any abnormal account transactions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Conversely, customers also have negative views about online banking. One being the lack of personal
relationships that are formed when carrying out all their transactions at the bank. People often find it
easier to talk to another person about a problem they are having instead of trying to search online for
the answer. Having a relationship with a professional at your bank that understands your personal
needs often makes the customer feel special and help ease any worries that they may have when faced
with any type of banking questions. Additionally, certain services such as notarization and bank
signature guarantees are not available online. As previously mentioned, security is a major concern
with online banking. Many customers are nervous about allowing a bank to have access and records of
their sensitive and important financial information. Hacking and identity theft is a fairly common
occurrence so for customers to be wary about turning over all their financial information to the
internet is justifiable (Geoffrey). As technology becomes more and more advanced, the demand for
new innovative technology grows as well. As a nation, we have been moving increasingly towards a
more digital world and that is also true for our banking industry. The physical action of walking into a
bank to execute our banking needs is becoming less common and online banking is taking its place.
ATMs are also a version of online banking that has been a

In J.D. Salinger s Nine Stories , there are two stories that indicate a death, and, remarkably, these two
short stories are what begin and end this captivating piece of literature. The first story is called A
Perfect Day for Bananafish and introduces a man who has been through the hell of World War II,
which allows him to see things from a different perspective. The latter is called Teddy and revolves
around a young, ingenious boy that seems to have a speculative mindset and very deep insight into
life. In both stories the reader is introduced to a genius , but the geniuses, with all the potentials at
hand, end up going mad and killing themselves. However, this proves to be Salinger s point. It
demonstrates a fine line that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Seymour takes his own life, we backtrack to his story and he is then seen as a celestial figure,
ahead of his time and full of wisdom. Metaphorically speaking, the bananafish ideology depicts
humanity in the postwar boom generation, where riches surround all people. However, amidst all the
possessions, we cannot help ourselves and we continuously and relentlessly consume, regardless of
what may happen as a result. We are each trapped in our own banana filled hole, in which Seymour
ultimately escapes from through his death.
In the final short story Teddy , the main character is a ten year old boy who is as intuitive and
intelligent as any character gets in this novel, with the exception of Seymour of course. Like Seymour
Glass, Teddy sees the world differently than his peers. The two tend to focus their a lot of their
attention on small details, such as orange peels, the colour of bathing suits, a woman that seemingly
looks at Seymour s feet, and appear to mirror a larger scale vision of humanity. Teddy s orange peels
recall Seymour s bananafish. Both their objects, in Seymour s case an imaginary one, are somewhat
allegorical in a sense that they seem to suggest a philosophical portrayal of humanity. To clarify,
Teddy first notices the orange peels floating and finds them interesting. The remnants of what was
once a living fruit, now floating, lifeless on the dark water. Later on he notes that, if he had not seen

Westward Expansion and the American Dream
The experiences a nation undergoes often shape its national identity and define who they are as a
country. Throughout the course of its history, America has developed a national identity which is the
American Dream. The American Dream is defined as the qualities that make up America and most of
its people they include; opportunity, success, determination, and ingenuity. Many events in American s
history highlight the idea of the American dream between the period of its creation and the 1900 s, but
few have succeeded to exhibit all the qualities that make up this idea. One specific event in America s
history has succeeded in demonstrating the four ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This event soon came to be known as the California Gold Rush. The 49ers of the California Gold
Rush can be known as major exercisers of the American Dream by highlighting success and
determination. The event itself best displays the quality of opportunity.
Many of the people were taking an enormous risk by selling their farms and houses and leaving in
search of something that they could never obtain. These people all had the common goal of seizing the
opportunity to become rich and lead a better life. According to Ronald James writer for the Nevada
Encyclopedia,
For most, the idea of striking it rich by discovering a valuable claim yielded to the ambition of earning
a good wage and, if the opportunity presented itself, of raising a family in a wholesome community.
Many still dreamt of sudden wealth, and gambling with stocks became the most common outlet for
this hope.
James demonstrates how the 49ers seized the opportunity to strike it rich in hopes of leading a healthy
and opulent life. The 49ers mused on the small chance they had to strike it rich that served as a major
component that piloted their determination. This highlights the American Dream because the 49ers of
the California gold rush used determination to obtain the opportunity they had sought out for. Those
who came to the new land were willing to live off of almost nothing on a day to day basis. Much of

Benefits Of Refeed Days
Now if you follow some form of flexible dieting or count macro nutrients (even if it s a chicken,

s why I prefer refeed days. For one I don t eliminate anything from a diet or anyone of my client s

allowed to eat bad foods or binge once a week uncontrolled? Like that makes totally since right?

cardio is like a screwdriver in your entire tool box. The main goals of fat loss should be to preserve

I Ask For Peace Of Spirit And Prosperity By Sandra Cisneros
Min Zhan Lu and Bruce Horner are English professors at the University of Louisville, who are co
authors of Writing Conventions. In this textbook, Lu and Horner define genre characteristics as,
setting, aims, relations to other genres, medium, and effect on self and life (Lu Horner 69). They also
discuss tinkering with genre itself. Genre is the base model which is expected to take a particular
form. For example in the collection of writings, Little Miracles, Kept Promises, author Sandra
Cisneros has eloquently expressed how the diversity of ideas themes within the several writings can
all be thought of as the single genre of prayers. One of the prayers that adheres to the expected genre
is, ... I ask for peace of spirit and prosperity (Cisneros 271). When the idea of prayer is discussed, a
person thinks of a positive respectful conversation between a person and a higher power that can also
ask for the health and wellbeing of people in their daily lives, while refraining from overzealous
material demands. Therefore asking for peace of spirit and prosperity would adhere to the guidelines
of prayer as a single genre. Changing the expected genre can be beneficial, but also can change the
aims or effect of the genre making the purpose unsuccessful. The majority of the writings by Cisneros
follow the common standard for the genre of prayer. On the other hand many of the writings tinker
with the genre of prayer. Lu and Horner describe tinkering with a genre as

Introduction Of The Crystal Palace

Talli s History and Description of the Crystal Palace and the Exhibition of the World s Industry in
1851
From 1837 to 1901, under the reign of Queen Victoria, Great Britain, with the supremacy of its Royal
Navy, had largely fulfilled its ambition of global imperial expansion in Asia and Africa particularly. As
the British Empire soon became the largest empire in history, this era was later known as the Victorian
Era (John 129).
To further unite nations and demonstrate an imperial industrial and economic leadership of the world,
Queen Victoria s husband, Prince Albert organized the first world s fair, namely, The Great Exhibition
of the Works of Industry of All Nations , at the Crystal Palace in Hyde Park, London, from May 1 to
October 15 in 1851 (Celik 1). Not only did the diversity of the foreign goods displayed at the
exhibition astonish the publics, but also the Crystal Palace, designed by Joseph Paxton and Owen
Jones, as the striking structure that housed these articles attracted millions of visitors around the world
during 1851 (Fig. 1). Later after the exhibition, the foreign articles were transferred to the South
Kensington Museum (Crinson 65) as part of the Imperial archive (Barringer 11), to promote industrial
and commercial education among domestic artisans and skilled labourers in the next fifty years, with a
hope that the nation s economic growth

Zarko Analysis
There is nothing confusing about the purpose of character alignment in any roleplaying game: to
motivate and guide the actions of a character. But problems occur when a player tries to actually use
the alignment of a character to help determine the character s actions. Hmmm. Zarko is of alignment
x; so what the heck does that mean in this situation? Axiology, the study of moral and ethical
philosophy, is a complicated and confusing pursuit even in the real world. Moral philosophy is
particularly slippery, because the subject matter concerns beliefs, which don t exist in the same way
that trees or chairs exist. If I say, I believe that thing there is a chair, you can attempt to convince me

The Golden Rule, Do unto others as you would have them do unto you, is a prescription for how to
act, but says nothing about why you should act in such a way. Philosophers have devoted thousands of
pages of argument to attempting to prove that a prescription as simple as the Golden Rule is the best
guide to right action. A morality is a belief system that leads to the formation of a particular ethic, or
tries to justify an existing ethic. To a large extent, the Bible is an attempt to explain the belief system
that gives rise to Christian ethics such as the Ten Commandments. Much of the past three thousand
years of philosophy has been devoted, without success, to attempting to find or create some form of
universal morality that is obviously implied by the physical structure of the universe, or at least one a

Taking a Look at the Gamble House
The Industrial Revolution was the age of the machine in the late 19th century. This was a period when
the middle class increased in numbers and a mass production of common goods began to engulf the
marketplace to serve the greater demand. Mass production resulted in a significant reduction in quality
and form but it did reduce the cost of many goods, bringing them to much of the middle class. The
problem lies with houses being riddled with products. The houses were all identical and the furniture
was identical to each others neighbors. The Greene brothers were some of the pioneers who disagreed
with the direction of where architecture and furniture was going. The Arts and Crafts Movement was
the designers of the 20th century way of revolting against the tasteless industrial revolution. To avoid
this industrial style, the Greene brothers had come up with a creative solution to build a foundation for
better quality goods. They hand crafted furniture, leaded stained glass, carpets, curtains, fabrics, and
other household items.
The Gamble House is an excellent example to mark the pinnacle of the American Arts and Crafts Style
or the Craftsman style in America. The house and furnishings were built for a very wealthy couple,
David and Mary Gamble of the Proctor Gamble Company entirely by Charles and Henry Greene with
specific attention to detail and craftsmanship. The brothers were inspired by the concept of a total

Existence Of God In Anslem s Ontological Argument
Theologian and author Brian Davies in the first section of chapter five of his 2004 book An
Introduction to the Philosophy of Religion, discusses the evidence that highlights the ideal of God s
existence through the Ontological Argument. Davies believes that some of these hold a good argument
while others lack logical reasoning to conclusively state therefore there must be a God. Davies begins
with an example of the Ontological Argument presented by Anselm, who believes that if God can be
conceived in thought and it is far greater for that being to actually exist, then God must exist. I find
this to be misleading. That creating an ideal in someone s intellect/imagination somehow necessitate
the means to attribute the existence of God to be true in the realm of reality. Another illustration
Davies brings up is the perspective that existence is perfection. He refers to Descartes idea that If God
is supremely perfect, and if existence is perfection, it follows that God exists and that this is so to
contradict oneself (100). Referring to the idea that it is better to exist, rather than not to exist.
However, if this was the case all little girls would be riding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Insisting that the ideal that existence is perfection is a misinterpretation of Anslem s argument, but

having the possibility of a being that has Maximal Greatness. He establishes his terminology for the
argument by describing maximal greatness, which he entails [as] omniscience, omnipotence, and
moral perfection (102). Plantinga believes that if there is a being with maximal greatness in one of
these possible worlds therein lies that a being of maximal greatness would exist in all

The Best American Essays Of The Century By Robert Atwan
Throughout the 1900 s, America has grown exponentially in its values, struggles, and art. The Best
American Essays of the Century, written by Robert Atwan, showcases the progress this country has
made through a series of essays ordered chronologically. Although many underlying topics existed in
these pieces, three common themes particularly stood out. In How It Feels to Be Colored Me by Zora
Neale Hurston, The Old Stone House by Edmund Wilson, and The Handicapped by Randolph Bourne,
identity is an important subject. Injustice is a clearly shared theme in Coatesville by John Jay
Chapman, The Devil Baby at Hull House by Jane Addams, and Of the Coming of John by W.E.B. Du
Bois. Finally, in Corn pone Opinions by Mark Twain, Tradition and the Individual Talent by T.S. Eliot,
and What Are Masterpieces and Why Are There So Few of Them by Gertrude Stein, the aspect of non
personality and the removal of one s self seems to be commonly spoken of in terms of creation.
The first motif, identity, appears initially in How It Feels to Be Colored Me where it says, But I am not
tragically colored. There is no great sorrow damned up in my soul, nor lurking behind my eyes. I do
not mind at all. (p. 115) Here, it is obvious that the author holds no shame in her skin nor self. She is
proud of who she is despite the prejudice some hold against her. Hurston identifies as colored and
does not care what others think. Her identity is unwavering. Also applicable to this idea is

The War I And World War II
Introduction During World War I and World War II life back home changed excessively. When the
soldiers went to fight in World War 1 and World War 2, women and children had to replace men in the
workforce. There was an increase in those affected by the trauma of the wars, and the birth rates
dropped during this time. Family Families were affected by the trauma and exposure of the war,
causing mental illnesses such as depression. Young children had been exposed to the trauma of war. A
great deal of pressure was put onto the older children because they had to take care of the household
and their younger siblings. Injuries and mental health left soldiers unemployed, which led to financial
difficulty to provide for the children, this forced families to change their standard of living in some
cases ( Impact on soldiers and their families ). Children were also able to help during the wars through
services such as knitting sweaters and making bandages for soldiers overseas. Sufficiently the topic of
war was also beginning to appear in curricular in early 1914. Patriotic teachers encouraged students to
help convince adult males or older brothers to enlist in the war. Countless children remember war as
an economic hardship, grinding tragedy and unbearable grief ( The Children s War ). Separation of

upon Does the assessment of risk factors prevent the development of pressure ulcers in hospitalised
patients. I will be discussing and analysing my questions and findings from reliable, current, valid and
trustworthy sources found within five articles based on the subject of pressure ulcers. All articles are
based on quantitative research undertaken. From the findings of a good, current, reliable, valid or
trustworthy research is the basis for maintaining high standards of care and all nurses must use

Conflict Of Self In John Calvin, The Accusative Case
John Calvin s Conflict of Self
John Calvin, the Accusative Case as he was called by friends, was known for being a stern and
humorless theologian and in truth he was, but there was more to him than just that. Throughout his
career, he was staunch in the belief of predetermination above all other thought. Unlike Luther, Calvin
had not begun life with the mindset of being a preacher, but he arguably had just as much, if not more
of an impact as a reformer. More humanist than previous reformers, but not truly that either, Calvin
existed in a state of conflict. Calvin was educated as a French Humanist with a less than humanist
view of predestination that culminated in an influential, but unfulfilled life.
Calvin had a different beginning to that of most reformists, which lent him a unique perspective.
According to Calvin his father had destined me for the study of theology. But afterwards, when he
considered that the legal profession commonly raised those who followed it to wealth , but in truth he
could not initially join the church due to the very same father embezzling money. Whether this
original desire left Calvin with a sense of unfulfilled destiny is uncertain, ... Show more content on

The concept of predestination perhaps the strongest belief he held to the point where if you supported
the idea of free will. Others endeavor to overthrow God s eternal purpose of predestination, by which
he distinguishes between the reprobate and the elect; others take upon them to defend free will; and
forthwith many throw themselves into their ranks, not so much through ignorance as by a perversity of
zeal which I know not how to characterize. With regards to original sin Calvin. In refusal of other
ideas Calvin never touched upon opposite opinions, unless there was reason to fear. Calvin was
certainly set in his beliefs, but not without

ealthcare professionals are increasingly faced with the daunting task of caring for a rapidly aging and
ever expanding population1 the corollary of which is increased need for chronic disease management,
home based care, and acute intervention. This is coupled with an increased number of patients living
in rural and remote areas that often lack access to required healthcare services.2,3 Taken together,
these challenges place significant stress on the healthcare system, prompting system stakeholders to
utilize resources more creatively to ensure that patient needs are met effectively.
A large body of literature illustrates the critical role telehealth technologies can play in addressing
these issues by serving as a tool to expand the reach of healthcare practitioners and access of patients
to them. The telehealth technology described in this context refers to videoconferencing only, and

How Western Was Russia Michael Lockwood AP Modern European History Mr. Gutelius 10/19/2015 Michael Lockwood AP Modern European History Mr. Gutelius 10/19/2015 How Western was Russia The question is not is not whether Russia was a western nation, it is to how Western was Russia? This question has no set answer, it changes over time. Often times, throughout history, situations change, often times change is made in order to perfect imperfect systems. Russia is no different in this regard. Russia was less Westernized under the Mongols and the rule of the Ivan s up through Ivan IV, but became more westernized under the rule of Peter I. Russia under the rule of the Mongols was not Western in any significant way. The Mongol ruler over Russia were by Khans, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His accession to the throne appears to be a turning point. There appears to be a very small softening of attitudes and the style of rule used in regards to governing Russia. He sought to make nobles do their duty instead of merely leaching of the labor of serfs and of the state budget. Nobles were required to work and be productive such as performing service in either the military or in the government. Additionally Peter I also known as Peter the Great tried to gain the support of his people instead of ruling through force alone. He did this by explaining the decisions he made. This does not result in a participatory government but it does seek to remove the veil of secrecy that lingered over it. This was a small step towards the style of certain Western Governments such as the United Kingdom where the monarch was constrained by parliament. Albeit explanations did not allow popular participation in government, it was progress. Progress does not come over night; it is often the product of small changes such as ... • 3. Persuasive Essay On Voting In America Brooke Lowery Mr. Bare January 17, 2017 AP Gov. Voting in America According to past studies done, only roughly 55% of registered voters actually vote. the other 45% may have just not wanted to vote, or they may have not been able to for multiple reasons. Ever since America was founded, there have always opticals put up intentionally to restrict voting without clearly stating that they are restricting voting. If America claims that we are a democracy , which according to the dictionary is a system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives , then America should make it easier to vote so all citizens can be included in the choices of our country. Ways to make this possible is by fixing the voter ID laws, create automatic registration, and change the voting date. Restrictive voting laws have been around since ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first major law passed to restrict voting was created in 1889. This is the year that the country passed to make a poll tax. This meant that anyone who wanted to vote had to pay a tax when they went to vote. This was mostly to keep black people from voting, as well as the poor white people. Thankfully people realized that this was not right, and it was abolished in 1964 under the court case of Harper v. Virginia Board of Elections. The most recent restrictive voting law is Voter ID Laws. These are put into place by individual states, starting as far back as 1977 in the states of Georgia and Florida. These laws state that in order for a person to vote, they must show proof of Identity such as a driver s license, a gun/ hunters license, a birth certificate, social security card, etc. This is to prevent voting fraud, which according to the Washington Post, only happened four times in the past election. • 4. Dog Park Building I firmly support the building of a public dog park in the residential area in the city of Muscatine, Iowa. Apartment buildings have very little yard space, which leaves the only exercise alternative a daily walk in the neighborhood. I have lived in cities that have ordinances with no dogs aloud off leash in public areas, it makes exercising dogs properly very difficult. My dog used to go crazy when I couldn t get her the proper exercise after being cooped up all day. Exercise is very important to dog s mental and physical health. Being socialized around other dogs is important for proper behavioral issues to avoid attacking a strange dog or a person. New York City reports the use of off leash dog parks lowered the dog bite incidents from 40,000 to fewer than 4,000 per year. Those numbers show over 90% decrease in reported incidents, making safety an added bonus for the neighborhood residents as well. ... • 5. Growing Up Essays What does it mean to grow up? Does it mean washing your car, paying your bills, getting a job? Does it mean getting married, having kids, and sprouting gray hair? Is it necessary? Is everyone capable of it? Is it going to be hard and will it be worth the effort? All of these questions are probably what made Peter Pan decide to never leave Neverland. Growing up means a lot of different things to many different people. If we look at the words growing up , we simply think of the physical aspect of ageing, growing tall and wide. But for most people, growing up means something deeper involving a change in the approach that an individual has to life and the actions that are taken with it. Such mistakes could include simple things when we are young like hitting your younger sibling, or they could be as adults like not paying your bills. Sometimes, we have to make the mistake in order to be able to correct it. We look at the mistake we made, for example, cheating on a test. We are pleased with the score. However, we see that we did not receive the grade that was deserved. The other students all put in long hours of studying and in turn earned their good grades. When something like this happens an immature person would not think much of it and move on, but a person who has grown spiritually into a person with morals will not feel comfortable with this result, and probably not do it again. That is one form of growing up. It is important to feel responsibility for the actions that have been taken. The next step is reacting in a productive way to that responsibility. In order to assume responsibility, we have to have a sense of right and wrong which is only naturally learned by living life. When responsibility is accepted, we have begun to see the truth and reality of our situation, as Peck describes. Dedication to truth is heavily involved with the concept of accepting responsibility because for people to see blame in themselves, they have to have a clear plane of reality that shows the necessity of a solution from them. In this dystopian society created by Ayn Rand, there are numerous rules, controls, and boundaries that are set by leaders of Equality s community to keep the peace in the city. These alleged rules are Equality s main conflict in the novel, due to his vast curiosity. Each of these rules have a reason for existence and have a purpose in Equality s society. At the end of the book, the society Equality dreams of building with Liberty would not include these rules for several reasons. HPV_ Human Papillomavirus If I told you that Human papillomavirus (HPV) was the most common sexually transmitted disease in the United States and if left untreated could cause 70% of cervical cancers, would you want children to be required to get the vaccine? (Sourced) HPV vaccine is very controversial, not only because it is starting to be mandatory in the U.S but also because it is only mandatory for female children to get it. Researchers claim that the cancers associated with HPV cost $3.7 billion in 2003 alone. (Source) Cervical cancer is the second most lethal cancer to all women but should it be mandatory for only one gender even though men can carry it as well? This virus is showing just how complex and controversial making a vaccine mandatory can be. Parents are starting fear that making it a requirement is implicitly condoning sex before marriage or sex with multiple partners. • 9. E.E. Cummings Since the beginnings of the literature love has been one of the most important themes for the writers and accordingly for the readers. Not only did the poets impose themselves the immensely difficult task to describe the notion of love, but they also left the readers with the enjoyable but not easy thing that is the deciphering the meaning of their descriptions. It is how the American poet, prosaic and dramatist, Edward Estlin Cummings, behaved by giving people the interesting image of love in the poem starting with the words: #8220;love is more thicker than forget #8230; #8221;. In this essay I will endeavour to analyse and interpret his vision of love. At the beginning I would like to focus on the structure of this poem. It includes ... Because can we see, smell, touch, hear or taste something that is #8220;more seldom than a wave is wet #8221;, or #8220;less always than to win #8221;? Or is it possible to explore #8220;the sea which only is deeper than the sea #8221; or #8220;the sky which only is higher than the sky #8221;? The answer is simple: no. The same is with love #8211; it can not be smelled, touched, seen, etc. in the literary meaning #8211; it transcends the real world and can only be described in ourselves, using abstract notions. And by having no punctuation marks one may read this poem quicker, without stops for comas, full stops. It may indicate the fact that love is the emotion inclusive all those phenomena in the same time, that they are not in contrastive opposition #8211; where one occurs the other can be found there as well. • 10. Essay on Explaining Crime Explaining Crime A) One Biological explanation of crime is Low intelligence. Studies have tended to link between low IQ and crime, although the link is not a simple one. Rutter and Giller (83) suggest two possible links. Once is that low intelligence leads to educational failure and consequently low self esteem. This then manifests as emotional; disturbances, conduct disorders and criminal behaviour. The second is that intelligence and conduct disorders may have a common starting point which is not clear, for eg neurophysiological. Also, more recent studies do tend to find that the average intelligence is below average (e.g. an IQ of 92 compared to a norm of 100). One sociological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sutherland was describing powerful social forces working on the individual and affecting skills attitudes and beliefs. B) In Evaluation biological explanations of crime help us to understand how genetic potential can lead to problems such as poor achievement at school and inadequate socialization, which may in turn result in criminality. It helps people to understand that criminals are not always fully responsible for their behaviour is a result of internal factors. These theories are generally simplistic, taking only one factor (biology) into account. It is very unlikely that criminal behaviour can be reduced to a biological explanation alone. They also ignore or underestimate the social causes of crime such as antisocial role models and an emotionally deprived childhood. In particular more recent studies do find that criminals have a lower IQ in comparison to non criminals but this difference is only small and so could be due to chance. Also, it should be questioned whether IQ is an accurate measure of intelligence or not. In evaluation for the sociological explanations the theories are based on carefully conducted research which clearly demonstrates the influence of reinforcement and observation on behaviour. These theories can also help to explain why criminality does to an extent run in families. There is a considerable body of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Treatments for anxiety has been created based on research found on how to tackle anxiety. A common treatment is medication. Two common medications for anxiety is serotonin reuptake inhibitor, and serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. Although other drugs are used, these are the most common ( Treatment ). This suggests that since medications are the most common, more severe symptoms may need extra treatment. Anxiety has multiple treatments including psychotherapy. Psychotherapy has multiple branches, one being cognitive behavioral therapy, which focuses on management of symptoms and skills to help relaxation. Another would be cognitive restructuring, which enforces positive thinking, along with coping plans for certain situations (Landro 2). This passage suggests that psychotherapy takes a personalized approach for treating anxiety. Although the treatments main focus is to better the patient, it leaves a lot for the victim s family and future. By implementing the technology called Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN), we can save the bandwidth of our LAN. VLAN means a group of devices on one or more logically segmented LANs (configured by use of management software), enabling devices to communicate as if attached to the same physical medium, when they are actually located on numerous different LAN segments. VLANs are based on logical instead of physical connections and thus are tremendously flexible. There are two types of VLANs. 1. End to End VLANs 2. Local VLANs End to End VLANs

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... How the number of maggots in mass affects the temperature of the mass and development of the mass? Larvae can form feeding masses on a corpse and can generate an enormous amount of heat. They develop slower at lower temperatures and more rapidly at higher temperatures because metabolic rate is more active at higher temperatures and slower at lower temperatures. As larvae are poikilothermic (cold blooded) the major factor which can increase the metabolic activity of them is external temperature. How temperature affects enzymes? Enzymes are very large globular proteins with three dimensional shapes which is vital for enzyme activity as natural catalyst in chemical reactions within the living organisms (7). The rate of enzyme catalyzed reaction increases as the temperature is raised (). An increase of temperature by 1 2 degrees may introduce changes of 10% 20% in the results. As the temperature increases the kinetic energy that molecules possess increases as well. This results in more random collisions of substrate and enzymes increasing rate of the chemical reaction, more product is formed (6). The metabolic rate of an organism increases, hence it develops faster. However metabolic activity of the larvae cannot be responsible for high mass temperatures which affect larval development. The heat produced by larvae is normally heat to regulate body temperature. Increasing in temperature also increases the vibrating energy in molecules. High temperatures can denature ... The Condition of Children Orange County report states that in the 2011 2012 academic year, 7.4% of Asian students dropped out of high school, which is higher than their white peers (4.6%). Because of this, many schools do not accurately monitor, record, and report the dropout rates among Asian Americans. As a result, many school districts throughout the nation do not realize the significant number of Asian students they are losing because of a stereotype (Walker Moffat, 1995). In addition to underachievement and growing dropout rates among Asian Americans, the increasing socioeconomic gap between Asians and whites also made the model minority stereotype problematic. According to U.S. Census Bureau, the poverty rates among Asian American groups (12.6%) remain elevated compared to that of their white counterparts and the overall national average (12.4%). The negative effects of the model minority myth and stereotypes are also evident in secondary and post graduate education. Research shows that the false representation of Asian students has evolved into the inaccurate view and additional stereotype that Asian students achieve their success through dishonest means and threaten the success of their academic peers (Suzuki, 2002). • 30. I Ask For Peace Of Spirit And Prosperity By Sandra Cisneros Min Zhan Lu and Bruce Horner are English professors at the University of Louisville, who are co authors of Writing Conventions. In this textbook, Lu and Horner define genre characteristics as, setting, aims, relations to other genres, medium, and effect on self and life (Lu Horner 69). They also discuss tinkering with genre itself. Genre is the base model which is expected to take a particular form. For example in the collection of writings, Little Miracles, Kept Promises, author Sandra Cisneros has eloquently expressed how the diversity of ideas themes within the several writings can all be thought of as the single genre of prayers. One of the prayers that adheres to the expected genre is, ... I ask for peace of spirit and prosperity (Cisneros 271). When the idea of prayer is discussed, a person thinks of a positive respectful conversation between a person and a higher power that can also ask for the health and wellbeing of people in their daily lives, while refraining from overzealous material demands. Therefore asking for peace of spirit and prosperity would adhere to the guidelines of prayer as a single genre. Changing the expected genre can be beneficial, but also can change the aims or effect of the genre making the purpose unsuccessful. The majority of the writings by Cisneros follow the common standard for the genre of prayer. On the other hand many of the writings tinker with the genre of prayer. Lu and Horner describe tinkering with a genre as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Talli s History and Description of the Crystal Palace and the Exhibition of the World s Industry in 1851 From 1837 to 1901, under the reign of Queen Victoria, Great Britain, with the supremacy of its Royal Navy, had largely fulfilled its ambition of global imperial expansion in Asia and Africa particularly. As the British Empire soon became the largest empire in history, this era was later known as the Victorian Era (John 129). To further unite nations and demonstrate an imperial industrial and economic leadership of the world, Queen Victoria s husband, Prince Albert organized the first world s fair, namely, The Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations , at the Crystal Palace in Hyde Park, London, from May 1 to October 15 in 1851 (Celik 1). Not only did the diversity of the foreign goods displayed at the exhibition astonish the publics, but also the Crystal Palace, designed by Joseph Paxton and Owen Jones, as the striking structure that housed these articles attracted millions of visitors around the world during 1851 (Fig. 1). Later after the exhibition, the foreign articles were transferred to the South Kensington Museum (Crinson 65) as part of the Imperial archive (Barringer 11), to promote industrial and commercial education among domestic artisans and skilled labourers in the next fifty years, with a hope that the nation s economic growth ... A morality is a belief system that leads to the formation of a particular ethic, or tries to justify an existing ethic. To a large extent, the Bible is an attempt to explain the belief system that gives rise to Christian ethics such as the Ten Commandments. • 35. Taking a Look at the Gamble House The Industrial Revolution was the age of the machine in the late 19th century. This was a period when the middle class increased in numbers and a mass production of common goods began to engulf the marketplace to serve the greater demand. Mass production resulted in a significant reduction in quality and form but it did reduce the cost of many goods, bringing them to much of the middle class. The problem lies with houses being riddled with products. The houses were all identical and the furniture was identical to each others neighbors. The Greene brothers were some of the pioneers who disagreed with the direction of where architecture and furniture was going. The Arts and Crafts Movement was the designers of the 20th century way of revolting against the tasteless industrial revolution. To avoid this industrial style, the Greene brothers had come up with a creative solution to build a foundation for better quality goods. They hand crafted furniture, leaded stained glass, carpets, curtains, fabrics, and other household items. The Gamble House is an excellent example to mark the pinnacle of the American Arts and Crafts Style or the Craftsman style in America. The house and furnishings were built for a very wealthy couple, David and Mary Gamble of the Proctor Gamble Company entirely by Charles and Henry Greene with specific attention to detail and craftsmanship. • 38. Existence Of God In Anslem s Ontological Argument Theologian and author Brian Davies in the first section of chapter five of his 2004 book An Introduction to the Philosophy of Religion, discusses the evidence that highlights the ideal of God s existence through the Ontological Argument. Davies believes that some of these hold a good argument while others lack logical reasoning to conclusively state therefore there must be a God. Davies begins with an example of the Ontological Argument presented by Anselm, who believes that if God can be conceived in thought and it is far greater for that being to actually exist, then God must exist. I find this to be misleading. That creating an ideal in someone s intellect/imagination somehow necessitate the means to attribute the existence of God to be true in the realm of reality. Another illustration Davies brings up is the perspective that existence is perfection. He refers to Descartes idea that If God is supremely perfect, and if existence is perfection, it follows that God exists and that this is so to contradict oneself (100). He establishes his terminology for the argument by describing maximal greatness, which he entails [as] omniscience, omnipotence, and moral perfection (102). • 40. The Best American Essays Of The Century By Robert Atwan Throughout the 1900 s, America has grown exponentially in its values, struggles, and art. The Best American Essays of the Century, written by Robert Atwan, showcases the progress this country has made through a series of essays ordered chronologically. Although many underlying topics existed in these pieces, three common themes particularly stood out. In How It Feels to Be Colored Me by Zora Neale Hurston, The Old Stone House by Edmund Wilson, and The Handicapped by Randolph Bourne, identity is an important subject. Injustice is a clearly shared theme in Coatesville by John Jay Chapman, The Devil Baby at Hull House by Jane Addams, and Of the Coming of John by W.E.B. Du Bois. Finally, in Corn pone Opinions by Mark Twain, Tradition and the Individual Talent by T.S. Eliot, and What Are Masterpieces and Why Are There So Few of Them by Gertrude Stein, the aspect of non personality and the removal of one s self seems to be commonly spoken of in terms of creation. The first motif, identity, appears initially in How It Feels to Be Colored Me where it says, But I am not tragically colored. There is no great sorrow damned up in my soul, nor lurking behind my eyes. I do not mind at all. (p. 115) Here, it is obvious that the author holds no shame in her skin nor self. She is proud of who she is despite the prejudice some hold against her. Hurston identifies as colored and does not care what others think. Her identity is unwavering. Family Families were affected by the trauma and exposure of the war, causing mental illnesses such as depression. Young children had been exposed to the trauma of war. Conflict Of Self In John Calvin, The Accusative Case John Calvin s Conflict of Self John Calvin, the Accusative Case as he was called by friends, was known for being a stern and humorless theologian and in truth he was, but there was more to him than just that. Throughout his career, he was staunch in the belief of predetermination above all other thought. Unlike Luther, Calvin had not begun life with the mindset of being a preacher, but he arguably had just as much, if not more of an impact as a reformer. More humanist than previous reformers, but not truly that either, Calvin existed in a state of conflict. Calvin was educated as a French Humanist with a less than humanist view of predestination that culminated in an influential, but unfulfilled life. Calvin had a different beginning to that of most reformists, which lent him a unique perspective. According to Calvin his father had destined me for the study of theology.
