Hispanics do come through the system but not as much as blacks juveniles, with a small number of
kids that are Caucasian and other races. Blacks and Hispanics usually can t afford a private attorney
like the Caucasian kids and other races, and usually have to end up with a public defender unless it is a
high profile case and a private attorney comes in.
According to Juvenile Courts, a juvenile is classified into three different groups. The first group is
considered a Delinquent. A Delinquent is a person who is under age (usually below 18), who is found
to have committed a crime in states that have declared by law that a minor lacks responsibility and
thus may not be sentenced as an adult (Legal Dictionary). Another term a juvenile can be referred to
be a status offender. A status offender is a juvenile charged with or adjudicated for conduct that would
not, under the law of the jurisdiction in which the offense was committed, be a crime if committed by
an adult (Act 4 Juvenile Justice). Finally a Juvenile can be identified as a dependent and neglected
child. These are usually youth that are deprived and in need of support and supervision (Cliff Notes)
Not every child that encounters a police is taken in custody. Police officers are more lenient on
juveniles because they do not want a stigma to be placed on them as they grow up. Some youth s are

Kant’s Deontology
Religion Philosophy Essay
a) What are the central features of Kant s deontolgy?
Immanuel Kant believed that to live a good life is to lead a life of happiness. This is not saying that
people should only live a life that brings them pleasure and satisfaction, as is often argued in
Utilitarianism. Rather it is saying that to live a moral life is to live in a state of peace. For Kant, the
Summum Bonum (highest good) describes the ideal, where there is both virtue and happiness.
In The Fundamental Principles Kant speaks of a very comprehensive moral argument. This is of the
Good Will in which he says Nothing can possibly be conceived in the world, or even out of it, which
can be called good, without qualification, except a Good ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We are always influenced in our thinking and our intentions and attitudes change due to those around
us. Aristotle said Man is a social animal , which means that man enjoys the association of others and
may derive many advantages from it as well as alterations in thinking.
Universalisability supports the idea that it would not be fair for one person to follow a maxim while
another was criticized for acting the same way. However, after Kant gives the first formulation of the
categorical imperative, he offers four examples of the way maxims can be derived from moral law.
One of the maxims always tell the truth results from the irrationality of breaking a promise.
This is a big disadvantage because Kant says you have a moral duty to tell the truth to an inquiring
murderer about the location of the person he is looking for. Like in the case of the inquiring murderer,
Kant does not come up with a way to resolve conflicts between the maxims: you should not lie and
you should save lives . Both are good maxims but if you follow one of the maxims (don t lie), then
you cannot follow the other (save lives). Other conflicts similar to this would also be unresolved
although Kant argues that you cannot know the future and all the other variables involved, and

The Spanish Colonization in the Philippines
THE SPANISH COLONIZATION IN THE PHILIPPINES The Philippines was very lucky because
our country was rich in natural resources. And that is the reason why many foreign countries had

three hundred years. They are the reason why Filipinos experienced suffered, hardship, persecution

The Spanish changed the lives of Filipino. Even though the Spanish was inhumanity but the Filipino
was still lucky because the Spanish people exerted efforts to implement our country by sharing to us
the way of their living and those things contributed a lot to us Filipino. And we also give thanks to the
Spanish because they converted the Filipino into Catholicism because if the Spain had not succeeded
to colonized our country, then our country would have been a Muslim nation now. Catholicism is the
most important contribution that the Spanish given to us. The Spanish colonization in the Philippines
brought such poverty, violence, misery to us Filipino. But it also contributes us a lot of good things.
They improved and helped our country in many ways. Even though the Filipino experienced the
inhumanity of the Spaniards but still they influenced us the way of their living and until today we still
used and make those influences in our daily lives. The only thing that we can say in the Spanish
colonization is that we felt different emotions. We felt angry because the Spaniards abused the Filipino
they treated them as slaves. We felt sad because their are many Filipinos sacrificed their own lives just

Shawn Buckley (founder) and Rudy Poe (partner) open JustFoodForDogs (JFFD) in January 2011 in
the context of Newport Beach, California to facilitate production and selling of the human quality
healthy food for the dogs. In 2013, the two partners sought to expand the operations of their business
through opening a second location in West Hollywood, California. In the midst of the limited
knowledge of the local market in the new location, the two business partners questioned the capability
of the positioning, messaging strategy, and brand elements in the first location to resonate effectively

The messaging strategy for the two founders focused on the need to promote the desired pet nutrition
as the core of the marketing tool, thus, the platform to position the firm as a dog nutrition expert. From
this perspective, the institution focused on the establishment of the brand as the source for the learning
through the integration of the library of information to the consumers through quick tips, articles, and
videos (Rapier 3). The information sought to highlight the dog nutrition, serving sizes, diet transition,
ingredient comparisons, allergies, life stages, and cost comparisons. Similarly, the strategy focused on
the identification, as well as the establishment of the relationships with the relevant brand influencers
concerning the local veterinarians. It is essential to note that these influencers were in the valuable
position regarding the interactions with the owners of the sick dogs or animals requiring unique or
special needs based on their different health issues. In the second fiscal year of operation, JFFD had
been able to experience substantive growth in comparison to their previous year. The organization was
able to achieve the optimum capacity at the first location based on the influence of the favorable
public relations and press, social media sites, and increasing base of the consumer advocates. The
encounter promoted the two business partners to open the second location. The case notes that the two

Theme Of Symbolism In Chronicle Of A Death Foretold
Of the many literary devices used by writers to make their work more powerful and layered,
symbolism is one of the most effective, and Gabriel Garcia Marquez s Chronicle of a Death Foretold
is a text that relies heavily on its use to develop its narrative. The novella recounts, in the form of a
pseudo journalistic reconstruction, the murder of Santiago Nasar in a small Colombian town in the
mid 1900 s. Through the course of the novel, Marquez employs various symbols to reinforce key
ideas, themes and techniques. This helps the novella break the monotony of a linear storyline and
unfolds the plot in a unique way that compounds both effect and meaning.
Santiago s dream sequence mentioned at the beginning of the novella is one of the most significant
symbols in the novella. He dreams that he was going ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After Santiago is murdered and his body is autopsied, it is revealed seven of the many wounds were
fatal and some of his organs were destroyed . Moreover, when Pedro plans to fatally stab Santiago, he
looks for his heart almost in his armpit, where pigs have it . Thus by likening Santiago to a pig,
Gabriel Marquez emphasizes the significance of the pig knives as a symbol. The use of the pig knives
as a murder weapon is also symbolic of the crassness of the decision to murder Santiago. The novel
states that the Vicario brothers had less than a day to plan the execution of Santiago, since the were
told of their sister s loss of virginity a short time before three on the morning they killed Santiago
Nassar. Earlier in the novel, it is also mentioned that the brothers were known to slaughter the same
hogs they raised, a fact that links to the idea that the twins looked at Santiago as simply another hog to
slaughter , and therefore they used the same weapon to murder

What is simulation? Well it is the imitation of the operation of a real world process or system over
time. (Google) I think that the use of simulation in health care provides an ideal environmental
experience and burst of reality for students. The use of simulation in health care helps decrease risks
of any kind while increasing the safety throughout health care. I feel that simulations have definitely
provided us with an alternate route for health care, allowing not only students but also healthcare
workers to indulge in real life situations. This provides the learning need to understand important
techniques and treatments instead of having to just witness. Simulation is significantly utilized in the

Appearance Vs Reality Research Paper
Reality? What Reality?
Meditation can be a double edged tool. It can reveal the nature of actual reality, but in doing so it also
reveals many other states of consciousness that we experience as real but are not usually aware of their
true nature, depending on our present level of awareness. So, while meditation can show us true
reality, in the process we may realize that we have been living in a conceptual representation of reality
for perhaps years or even a whole lifetime.
Many of those who pursue meditation as a means of achieving self realization or self awareness reach
a point where they suddenly begin to perceive on an intuitive level, a truth that is fundamental to their
well being and sense of self and security, at which point some choose to continue and some choose to
discontinue the journey of meditation. In fact, this is a well known obstacle in meditation that has to
do with the true nature of reality and our perception or lack of perception of what is real.
Who Or What Is Aware
Suppose we go on an intellectual version of an actual meditation experience. We are sitting in a quiet
room surrounded by the familiar objects of our life. We place a candle on a low table before where we
intend to sit and meditate. There is little light in the room and we light the candle before us and begin
to sit quietly slowly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This particular meditation discipline is about achieving enlightenment through insight. Perceiving
awareness as a threat is a sure sign that we are not living in the real world but rather some conceptual
reality produced by our own minds ability to imagine and create mental constructs of what is real. And
with a long enough exposure to this, we will of course begin to believe and experience it as real. That
is, as long as we don t attempt to develop any true level of awareness though something like
meditation which would eventually reveal the

organizational bodies of discussion will be the International Commission for the Accreditation of

organizations are the only ones capable of assigning the title of professional to the recipient. The

Critical Problem Of Selective Reliance On Secondary...
Part2
The article of Ian Lustick focuses on the critical problem of selective reliance on secondary
historiographical sources by historically minded political scientists. Lustick observes that political
scientists often make mistakes by rooting their research without paying attention to the issue of how to
select historical events and thus comes up with an approach that does not treat historiographies as
History, but as particular interpretations of history that can be used to multiply the number of
observations to outnumber variables to make valid inferences: if we treat our database as
historiography or histories and not History, then the actual number of cases expands from the number
of episodes to the number of accounts of those episodes (Lusktick). The problems with
historiographies is that, historians like many political scientists tend to include their own commitments
and political engagement and eventually fall into selection bias when doing their research. This bias
can occur when he/she selects historiographical accounts prioritizing one historical events and human
behavior that sync with their own political theories over the others. (pg. 608). Lustick deals with the
issue of how to choose sources of data without selecting specific ones that matches your thesis. By
doing so, he criticize Barrington Moore s seminal 1966 book, Social Origins of Dictatorship and
Democracy, noting that Moore selectively references historical accounts to support his

Juvenile Justice System And Treatment For Juveniles
In the past, children who were apprehended for committing crimes, were tried in the same courts as
adults. Furthermore, when the children were found guilty, they were given the same punishments as
the adults (Austin, Johnson Gregoriou, 2000). Today, a separate justice system exists for children who
commit crimes. The concept of a distinct justice system and treatment for juveniles has come under
attack in recent years because communities across the nation began to experience dramatically
increased rates of juvenile crime. The increasing incidence and severity of crimes committed by
juveniles led many to question the efficacy of the juvenile court system and to call for a harsher
response to juvenile crime. This has led to more juvenile arrests,

the law abiding citizen has no choice other than to disarm or become an outlaw, but people with bad

Less than one percent of licensed firearm holders have had their permits revoked due to
misdemeanors. So, what happens when the bad man with the gun is right there and the military, the
police, and the President s Secret Service aren t on the scene? Then having a gun may be the
difference between living or dying, between being raped or being okay, between saving your children
or watching them die.
The debate over gun control in the United States has waxed and waned over the years, stirred by a
series of mass killings by gunmen in civilian settings. In particular, the killing of twenty
schoolchildren in Newtown, Connecticut, in December 2012 fueled a national discussion over gun
laws and calls by the Obama administration to limit the availability of military style weapons.
However, compromise legislation that would have banned semiautomatic assault weapons and
expanded background checks was defeated in the Senate in 2013, despite extensive public support.
Gun control advocates sought to rekindle the debate following the shooting deaths of nine people at a
South Carolina church in June 2015. These advocates highlight the stricter gun laws and lower
incidents of gun violence in several other democracies, like Japan and Australia, but many others say
this correlation proves little. It is a fact that countries with the strictest gun control laws also tend to
have the highest homicide rates. In Canada around 1920, before there was any form of gun

Pericles Funeral Speech Summary
The author of this document was Philip F. Riley he quoted Pericles. Pericles was quoted from 430 431
B.C.E. The purpose of this document was for Pericles to deliver a funeral speech and praise his city at
the same time. The main two points of Pericles was trying to get across was how his city was ran and
how tough his men fought in the war. Pericles knew he city was unique and different and wasn t a
follower he said, Our constitution does not copy the laws of neighboring states; we are rather a model

Pericles quoted, If I have dwelt at some length upon the character of our country, it has been to show
that our stake in the struggle is not the same as theirs who have no such blessings to lose, and also that
the praise of the men over whom I am now speaking might be confirmed by definite proofs. His
meaning was to comment on the war and how he was trying to say his men fought a long and tough
battle. Percale then quoted, You must yourselves realize the power of Athens, and feed your eyes upon
her from day to day, till the love of her fills your hearts; and then when all her greatness shall break
upon you, you must reflect that it was by courage, sense of duty, and a keen feeling of honor in action
that men were enabled to win all this, and that no personal failure in an enterprise could make them
consent to deprive their country of their bravery except as a sacrifice of the most serious contribution
they could offer. Pericles was commanding his military men for doing their job duties and to get their
family wives, children, mothers and so on that the men fought for them. Then Pericles quoted,
Comfort, therefore, not condolence, is what I have to offer to the parents of the dead who may be here.

The Customs Union And The European Union
The customs union is first and foremost an essential component of the internal market of the European
Union. The customs union is a free trade area with a common external tariff. This is the common
external tariff that transforms a free trade area into a customs union. The European Union has also
developed a common trade policy with third countries which is a complement of the customs union.
The customs union is a central element of the trade policy.
The customs union and the common commercial policy are two of five exclusive competences or

are beginning to use Hip Hop cultures popularity among the young people to increase the sales of their
products. By advertising fashion, films and other miscellaneous types of products businesses use the
hip hop culture to appeal to a target audience. Since the late 1970s, Hip Hop fashion has changed
significantly over the years. As the future approaches it has become a prominent part of the fashion
world as a whole across the world and for all ethnicities. During the 1980s, fashion consisted of
clothing items like large glasses; Kangol hats multi finger rings and Adidas sneakers. These items

This was acceptable for a time, but after a while it occurred to Russell Simmons, the president of Run
DMC s label Def Jam Records, that the group should be getting paid for the promotion they were
giving to Adidas. He approached the German shoe company about kicking in some money for the act s
1987 Together Forever Tour. Adidas executives had a skeptical reaction about being associated with
rap music, which at that time was known for starting riots. To help change their minds, Simmons
invited a couple of Adidas representatives to a Run DMC show. Christopher Vaughn describes the
event in Black Enterprise: At a crucial moment, while the rap group was performing the song My
Adidas , one of the members yelled out, Okay, everybody in the house, rock your Adidas! This
resulted with three thousand pairs of sneakers shot in the air. The Adidas executives couldn t reach for
their checkbooks fast enough. By the time of the annual Atlanta sports shoe Super Show that year,
Adidas had unveiled its new line of Run DMC shoes: the Super Star and the Ultra Star designed to be
worn without laces state Russell Simmons. Before big fashion companies paid any attention to hip
hop, small independent fashion designers supported the hip hop community through local retail stores.
According to Brian McDaniel s, co owner of Uncle Ralph s, a hip hop clothing store located in
Brooklyn, these young designers tend to be more in tune with hip hop culture. Not all

Analysis Of Denis Friske s Narrative Approach Essay
Question 1
Denis Friske s narrative approach states sanctions people as experts in their own life which effectively
empowers them in their self perspective and counseling relationship (2014). Through storytelling,
clients impacted by traumatic are allowed the opportunity to narrate their own experiences as a
process of emotional and psychological catharsis. In enabling people as experts over their own life,
child and youth care counselors do not dictate what they ought to do in their process of overcoming
traumatic or crisis experiences but act as guidance figures in client s lives towards their healing (Denis
Friske, 2014). As victims of abuse, giving people the time and space to create their own meanings in
narrative making and focus on their inner character s strength and resiliency, people are made experts
of their own lives by authoring their own stories and taking into control how they want to perceive
their situation in spite of adversity, strength can be recovered from deep within.
It is important that counselors empower clients as experts of their own lives because it gives them
autonomy and this will be beneficial when the counseling relationship eventually comes to a close.
When clients recount their own stories from their individual perspectives, agendas, and beliefs, this is
powerful and significant because no one else can testify about their own life better than they can.
Storytelling reweaves people s perspective to see their potential for strength, renewal

Sexual Cultures In New Spain And New France
The sexual cultures of New Spain, New France, and New England evolved differently because of the
[d]ifferences in religious orientation, labor systems, demographic composition, and political authority
(Peiss 70). A couple of the main religions were catholic and puritan. The labor systems varied greatly
since there was farming, trading, or conquest by soldiers. With over a hundred different tribes of
Native Americans throughout the Americas as well as the Spanish, French Canadians, and English, the
demographic composition was very different in each settlement and colony (Anderson Bricker Native
Americans Notes). The political authority for the Spanish on conquest and missions was military

However, if a woman did perform the responsibilities of a man her hidden male organs would emerge.
Due to this belief, the distinction between men and women were defined by the clothes they wore and
the jobs they performed. When people such as Thomas Hall crossed dressed by wearing women s

Thomas or Thomasine? 78). If a man believed that Thomas was a woman and approached Thomas in a

New England was when sexual relations occurred within the same sex (Godbeer 95, 96). Due to the

How Did Rene Descartes Use Methodic Doubt
Rene Descartes was first and for most a mathematician, and when coming up with his new mathematic
theories he wanted to create a method to make knowledge completely certain and undoubtable by his
critics, through his knowledge of philosophy he came up with methodic doubt. Methodic doubt is a
way of finding out what knowledge can be trusted (essentially undoubtable knowledge) by
systematically doubting everything. Descartes used methodic doubt because he believed that if we say
that we know and understand reality or existence that our claim to knowing that must be based on
irrefutable evidence rather then just assumption. He likened it to taking a barrel of apples, going
through them one by one and putting the sound ones back . Therefore Descartes went about using
methodic doubt as a way to create a firm foundation for these beliefs by first doubting all knowledge,
reality and our own existence. In his first meditation Descartes doubts all our senses saying that there

He believes we can not trust that anything actually exists apart from our own consciousness, he s

but this conclusion he comes to only rebuilds a minor part of it, he does not His procedure of doubting
the senses can be defended in part because although one can doubt the sense s because there is no way
to prove that they are not deceiving us, Descartes gives proof of this argument when he gives the
sample of objects appearing differently when they are far away from us. But this argument is flawed
because we know that we are being deceived by our senses in this case because we know when our
senses are wrong only because we also know when they are right and that we are not being

Role Of Aegir In Vikirs
During the times of voyages the Vikings loved and feared the ocean. The reason behind this is because
of the god Aegir. Aegir is the god of the ocean and rules virtually every ocean in The Nine Worlds. He
is seen as a vigorous elemental god. Aegir was a huge part of the and ocean because of this people
have said when their has been a ship wreck it had gone into Aegir s jaws . He also provoked storms

because if he was not on your side your voyage could end badly. Because of this the Vikings often
held sacrifices for him.27

Collective Bargaining During The Great Depression
After researching information about collective bargaining, I found several cases of employees
exercising the rights they are entitled to. One of these rights I found was the right of employees to
form a union. The act of collective bargaining, be it a labor union, strike, picket, etc., came to a height
during the Great Depression.
The Great Depression was a significant time in the United States for many reasons. It spurred the
formation of labor unions, strikes against banks, and just an overall demand for greater working
conditions and employee welfare. With the revolt against banks happening as a result of the crash, a
union was formed in 1937 known as the Chicago Teachers Union (CTU).
The CTU was powerful in establishing bargaining rights,

Abolish The Death Penalty Should Not Be Abolished
Wiggins Amanda
Professor Laudani
Composition 1
09 July 2015
Abolish the Death Penalty Since the state has no power to give life, it should not exercise its power to
take a life either. After all, the judicial system is not a fool proof system. The risk of putting an
innocent human being to death by capital punishment, cannot be ruled out. The only purpose it serves
is retribution or revenge. Therefore, the death penalty must be abolished. The death penalty is prone to
errors that may have led to the execution of wrongfully convicted people. There have been 330 post
conviction DNA exonerations here in the U.S (Innocence Project).
The Supreme Court should bring the United States in line with the rest of the world and hold that
death is a cruel and unusual punishment prohibited by the Eighth Amendment. The death penalty
process consumes tremendous amounts of money and resources and fails to deter murders.
The average cost to put someone to death is 1.1 million dollars that Americans are paying for (Huddar,
Buzzle). That money can be used for a lot more things, such as, helping homeless veterans, who
served our country, or children who live in poverty right here in America. It is used in an often
arbitrary and racist manner. In a study commissioned by the governor of Maryland, defendants who
kill white victims were more likely to be sentenced to death than those who killed a black (McElwee,
Huffington Post) Not only does the death penalty

others a grand metamorphosis. Humans the center of this cycle, find themselves changing every day,

It is seen in Marquez s literately work when the preparations are made for the Drowned mans funeral.
Villagers care for this drowned man like no other, orchestrating a grandiose funeral bringing people
from neighboring villages, and decorating him with charms and tailored clothing. They select people
to act as his family in the funeral and then they release the Drowned man back into the water, without
an anchor so that he could come back if he wished and whenever he wished (Marquez). This all
ostensibly unusual for a funeral in this area, especially for the funeral of a drowned stranger. Villagers

actions is also evident in McCuller s text when discussing the changes seen in sucker after Pete yells
at him. Sucker begins spending time with friends, inviting people over to the house, taking up more of
the bed, acting tough, and avoiding conversation with Pete who says I don t even want to call him
sucker anymore (McCuller). Sucker s actions have become apparently contradictory to the past, to the
point where Pete doesn t even find it appropriate to use his previous name. Then similar to Garcia s
story, the change in practice is emblematic of other change found around the story, specifically more
rooted mental change. Transformation of the psyche, whether entirely or compartmentally, would

Chris Krakauer s Non Fiction Book Into The Wild
Imagine this: a young adult vanishes without a trace to venture off into the wild and discover himself.
With the bearings of a modern day bildungsroman, such a story may not seem uncommon; after all,
young adult novels and films have both glorified and censured the youthful adventure tale,
perpetuating an image of adolescents (particularly young males) as courageous yet foolhardy
individuals who adamantly desire self discovery. Such depictions may not be far from reality, as
demonstrated by the story of Chris McCandless in Jon Krakauer s non fiction book Into the Wild.
Krakauer presents a relatively objective account of 24 year old McCandless s brief sojourn in the
Alaskan wilderness and the events leading to his death, offering opinions from individuals who
criticized the young man s arrogance and foolhardiness as well as those who extolled McCandless as a
noble, brave hero. To establish an extreme and unyielding stance on Chris McCandless viewing him as
either a righteous idealist or an inexperienced dunderhead would disregard McCandless s nuanced
personality and his sensitive familial circumstances. When one takes into account McCandless s
estrangement from his family and his worship of author Jack London s The Call of the Wild, it
becomes clear that while McCandless was an ignorant and overconfident hypocrite who was unable to
survive in the wild, he genuinely adhered to his beliefs and was not wholly responsible for his own
death. McCandless s unusual family

The Colonization Of North America Essay
During the sixteenth century European pilgrims migrated across the Atlantic Ocean to settle in North
America. North America had just been introduced to the Western Civilization. The America s were
home to the indigenous people, that were made up of several tribes that were called Indians by the
early settlers. Together the Indians and settlers began to thrive. Growth and development in the new
world was made possible by the abundant amount of natural resources. These early settlers had a
major influence on the joining of these two cultures. Settlers started to inhabit and populate along the
east coast and moving north and south. They began organising into colonies and called themselves
colonist. Colonist enjoyed freedoms and opportunities that they never had. Owning land was never
possible in the colonist previous civilization. Colonist were also free to decide how they wanted to
make a living unlike the peasant life that many of them had known before. One of the biggest reasons
the colonist were so enthusiastic because they got to worship how they wanted. They were finally able
to practice and believe in God to their best understanding. For centuries very few people have had this
right, to worship as they desire. One can see why the colonist lived with so much passion and pride in
this new life style. During the 1700s there began to be uneasiness and frustration amongst the colonist.
Much of the frustration grew because of the unfair dominion that

The, National Museum Of African Art
On October 9, 2015 I went to the Smithsonian, National Museum of African Art along with attending
the Million Man March down in Washington D.C. The experiences were wonderful and I was very
excited to be at both events. While at the museum I took two tours one at 10 am that was led by a

am that was led by a teen ambassador named Nicholas Stewart, who was very intelligent. He talked
about numerous pieces throughout the museum that had some significance to younger minds so I

I would describe both events as lectures that were powerful and time put to good use. The reason I
chose to go to the African Art Museum is because I have been there before and I enjoy my time when I

category the tourist wanted to focus on. Nkechi Obi was my first tour guide and the title of her tour
was Docent African Arts . Her goal throughout the tour was to show pieces of artwork that showed

Causes Of The Decline Of Labor Unions
Introduction Labor unions became very prevalent during the Progressive Era when positions in
factories were readily available but also steadily dangerous. Unions were drafted in order to protect
the rights of workers regarding safety, wages, and benefits. It wasn t until about the 1980 s when labor
unions started to face a real decline and lack of memberships. In my opinion I believe the lack of
manufacturing jobs in the US, newly implemented public policies, and increased lobbying from
corporations are the root causes of the decline. Loss of US Manufacturing I believe a contributing
factor as to why labor unions are on a steep decline in the US today is because the country s
manufacturing sector has become obsolete. Specifically speaking ... Show more content on

weaker corporations acted by refusing to meet any of their requests regarding higher wages or
benefits. They even went as far to hire strike breakers. Once a job lock out began or a strike ensued
strike breakers were hired to replace union workers (Collins, 2015). After the strike subsided this left
many people without work. The hiring of strike breakers gained popularity and effectiveness so much
that unions became reluctant to continue their striking. For comparison purposes 371 strikes took

Introduction Considering the collaborative process of filmmaking, especially nowadays in most film
production, the concept of there being a singular creative supervisor is debatable. Nonetheless one
cannot deny the existence and driving force of directional motifs and instances of thematic and
stylistic elements within the work of filmmakers like Tim Burton and Alfred Hitchcock. These
directors indicate that within traditions and genres lies the overall definition of an auteur: a director
whose inventive traits are listed throughout his or her work like a signature. Auteurism rose to the

2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium high heat. Add onion and garlic; saute until fragrant,
about 2 minutes. Stir in the chicken and cook, stirring occasionally, until chicken is no longer pink in
the center and the juices run clear, about 5 to 6 minutes.
3. Reduce heat to medium low; add artichoke hearts, tomato, feta cheese, parsley, lemon juice,
oregano, and cooked pasta. Cook and stir until heated through, about 2 to 3 minutes. Remove from

For grains we have pasta, which was about 6 servings according to the Canada food guide. For Meats,
we have the chicken breast, which is about 6 servings. For Dairy, the pasta had cheese, which
according to the Canada food guide is 1 serving. For Vegetables we had artichokes, onions, garlic and
tomatoes, which is about 6 servings. Lastly for oils, I used olive oil which is healthier compared to
other oils. In the end this looked pretty bland, but tasted fine, plus I used whole wheat pasta, so that it
would be healthier.
Roast Vegetables My side dish was roast vegetables, which contain vegetables, olive oil and some
spices. The vegetables in this dish were Squash, Sweet potatoes, potatoes, bell peppers and an onion.
Altogether, this is about 8 servings of vegetables. This dish turned out fine and it follows the Canada
food guide by having a variety of colors, having fresh vegetables and not having much added salts or
sugars. Also it contains sweet potatoes and squash, which fit under orange vegetables, which are
recommended to eat, at least once a day.

Excessive Weight Loss Teenage Girls
She desires beauty, but does not look like them therefore she is not beautiful. She fits into her clothes,
but the sizes do not fit the standard. She passes up the toast for breakfast, the hamburger for lunch and
the Chinese takeout for dinner. She sweats daily so that someday she will not have to sweat it at all.
She looks at the scale unsatisfied knowing twenty pounds is not enough. She, along with millions of
teenage girls feel pressured to build or maintain the perfect body. Thoughts on how one perceives their
psychical appearance or body image, can start at the age of six and last through adulthood. Due to the
desire of excessive weight loss teenage girls are affected by eating disorders, relationships, and the
strong opinion of the media.
She leans over the toilet emptying the evil from within while the fantasy of a having the perfect body
consumes the mind. Body satisfaction plays one of the largest roles in why girls inhabit eating
disorders. The most common types of eating disorders include anorexia, bulimia and binge eating.
Weight control strategies reflect on how dissatisfied a teen is with her body shape. Over one half of
teenage girls use unhealthy weight control behaviors such as skipping meals, fasting, smoking
cigarettes, vomiting, and taking laxatives (Neumark Sztainer, 2005). Teens with eating disorders
struggle with the fear of becoming overweight, distress, and low self esteem (Kam, 2007). They will
go to any lengths to achieve what they want their

The Moose By Elizabeth Bishop
The poem The Moose by Elizabeth Bishop opens up by capturing the landscape and physical
appearance of the Nova Scotia coast, where Bishop was taken to live with her grandparents in her
younger days. As she is traveling to Boston she takes into account various images and perspectives she
is seeing and hearing. Like some of Bishop s previous poems, The Moose focuses on the beauty and
power of nature, and how nature can be almost a burden to our everyday life. Bishop does this by
including vivid imagery, syntax, and alliteration throughout the poem.
With Bishop being familiar with the Nova Scotia coast, she really has a connection in the poem with
the landscape and what is going on around her, which the reader can appreciate throughout the first
couple of stanzas. The reader can identify this connection with the vivid use of imagery Bishop
portrays. She starts out the poem describing the scenery and a little bit of the culture that has
surrounded her for most of her years. Lines 1 4 cite, From narrow provinces /of fish and bread and tea,
/ home of the long tides/ where the bay leaves the sea. With these particular lines, Bishop creates a
soothing and comfortable image and tone. She sets the mood of the poem by the repetitive syntactical
use of language. Bishop does a great job with this by having the reader appreciate what she is seeing
and displaying a meaning of what is behind these long tides and the bay.
She continues on with the third stanza describing the sunset

Kitchenpaid Research Paper
One of the best gifts my husband ever bought me was a KitchenAid Pro Series 600 stand mixer. He
knew I wanted one but wouldn t spend the nearly $600 on myself. He researched all the brands and
models and settled on one. KitchenAid mixers are excellent to have because of their superior
durability, multiple available attachments, time saving ability, and aesthetic appeal. After two years of
heavy use I can definitely say it was an exceptional purchase. When selecting a mixer my husband did
most of his research online; he read reviews and consumer reports as well as getting background
information on the different companies. KitchenAid has been in business since 1919 and their only
product was the stand mixer. For people like my husband and I, we appreciate that they are still made
in the United States of America (Adams, 2009). KitchenAid had the best reviews and warranties out of
all the similar type mixers. If you think you don t do enough baking to warrant buying such an
expensive toy, just wait until you see what this appliance can do. ... Show more content on

The attachments, however, are all sold separately and can be quite expensive. Most of the attachments
range from $50 to $150 each. There are juicers, food processors, meat grinders, and sausage stuffers to
name a few. I have a set of pasta makers and an ice cream attachment; being vegan these have been
incredibly useful as I have to make most of our food from scratch. In the long run I save money at the
grocery store because I can make my own vegan food instead of buying specialty items pre made. In
addition to saving money I also save a lot of time by using this

  • 3. Kant‚Äôs Deontology Religion Philosophy Essay a) What are the central features of Kant s deontolgy? Immanuel Kant believed that to live a good life is to lead a life of happiness. This is not saying that people should only live a life that brings them pleasure and satisfaction, as is often argued in Utilitarianism. Rather it is saying that to live a moral life is to live in a state of peace. For Kant, the Summum Bonum (highest good) describes the ideal, where there is both virtue and happiness. In The Fundamental Principles Kant speaks of a very comprehensive moral argument. This is of the Good Will in which he says Nothing can possibly be conceived in the world, or even out of it, which can be called good, without qualification, except a Good ... Aristotle said Man is a social animal , which means that man enjoys the association of others and may derive many advantages from it as well as alterations in thinking. Universalisability supports the idea that it would not be fair for one person to follow a maxim while another was criticized for acting the same way. However, after Kant gives the first formulation of the categorical imperative, he offers four examples of the way maxims can be derived from moral law. One of the maxims always tell the truth results from the irrationality of breaking a promise. This is a big disadvantage because Kant says you have a moral duty to tell the truth to an inquiring murderer about the location of the person he is looking for. Like in the case of the inquiring murderer, Kant does not come up with a way to resolve conflicts between the maxims: you should not lie and you should save lives . Both are good maxims but if you follow one of the maxims (don t lie), then you cannot follow the other (save lives). Other conflicts similar to this would also be unresolved although Kant argues that you cannot know the future and all the other variables involved, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Theme Of Symbolism In Chronicle Of A Death Foretold Of the many literary devices used by writers to make their work more powerful and layered, symbolism is one of the most effective, and Gabriel Garcia Marquez s Chronicle of a Death Foretold is a text that relies heavily on its use to develop its narrative. The novella recounts, in the form of a pseudo journalistic reconstruction, the murder of Santiago Nasar in a small Colombian town in the mid 1900 s. Through the course of the novel, Marquez employs various symbols to reinforce key ideas, themes and techniques. This helps the novella break the monotony of a linear storyline and unfolds the plot in a unique way that compounds both effect and meaning. The use of the pig knives as a murder weapon is also symbolic of the crassness of the decision to murder Santiago. The novel states that the Vicario brothers had less than a day to plan the execution of Santiago, since the were told of their sister s loss of virginity a short time before three on the morning they killed Santiago Nassar. It can reveal the nature of actual reality, but in doing so it also reveals many other states of consciousness that we experience as real but are not usually aware of their true nature, depending on our present level of awareness. So, while meditation can show us true reality, in the process we may realize that we have been living in a conceptual representation of reality for perhaps years or even a whole lifetime. Many of those who pursue meditation as a means of achieving self realization or self awareness reach a point where they suddenly begin to perceive on an intuitive level, a truth that is fundamental to their well being and sense of self and security, at which point some choose to continue and some choose to discontinue the journey of meditation. In fact, this is a well known obstacle in meditation that has to do with the true nature of reality and our perception or lack of perception of what is real. Who Or What Is Aware Suppose we go on an intellectual version of an actual meditation experience. We are sitting in a quiet room surrounded by the familiar objects of our life. • 12. Critical Problem Of Selective Reliance On Secondary... Part2 The article of Ian Lustick focuses on the critical problem of selective reliance on secondary historiographical sources by historically minded political scientists. Lustick observes that political scientists often make mistakes by rooting their research without paying attention to the issue of how to select historical events and thus comes up with an approach that does not treat historiographies as History, but as particular interpretations of history that can be used to multiply the number of observations to outnumber variables to make valid inferences: if we treat our database as historiography or histories and not History, then the actual number of cases expands from the number of episodes to the number of accounts of those episodes (Lusktick). The problems with historiographies is that, historians like many political scientists tend to include their own commitments and political engagement and eventually fall into selection bias when doing their research. This bias can occur when he/she selects historiographical accounts prioritizing one historical events and human behavior that sync with their own political theories over the others. (pg. 608). Lustick deals with the issue of how to choose sources of data without selecting specific ones that matches your thesis. The debate over gun control in the United States has waxed and waned over the years, stirred by a series of mass killings by gunmen in civilian settings. In particular, the killing of twenty schoolchildren in Newtown, Connecticut, in December 2012 fueled a national discussion over gun laws and calls by the Obama administration to limit the availability of military style weapons. However, compromise legislation that would have banned semiautomatic assault weapons and expanded background checks was defeated in the Senate in 2013, despite extensive public support. Gun control advocates sought to rekindle the debate following the shooting deaths of nine people at a South Carolina church in June 2015. These advocates highlight the stricter gun laws and lower incidents of gun violence in several other democracies, like Japan and Australia, but many others say this correlation proves little. • 31. How Did Rene Descartes Use Methodic Doubt Rene Descartes was first and for most a mathematician, and when coming up with his new mathematic theories he wanted to create a method to make knowledge completely certain and undoubtable by his critics, through his knowledge of philosophy he came up with methodic doubt. Methodic doubt is a way of finding out what knowledge can be trusted (essentially undoubtable knowledge) by systematically doubting everything. Descartes used methodic doubt because he believed that if we say that we know and understand reality or existence that our claim to knowing that must be based on irrefutable evidence rather then just assumption. He likened it to taking a barrel of apples, going through them one by one and putting the sound ones back . Therefore Descartes went about using methodic doubt as a way to create a firm foundation for these beliefs by first doubting all knowledge, reality and our own existence. Abolish The Death Penalty Should Not Be Abolished Wiggins Amanda Professor Laudani Composition 1 09 July 2015 Abolish the Death Penalty Since the state has no power to give life, it should not exercise its power to take a life either. After all, the judicial system is not a fool proof system. The risk of putting an innocent human being to death by capital punishment, cannot be ruled out. The only purpose it serves is retribution or revenge. Therefore, the death penalty must be abolished. The death penalty is prone to errors that may have led to the execution of wrongfully convicted people. There have been 330 post conviction DNA exonerations here in the U.S (Innocence Project). The Supreme Court should bring the United States in line with the rest of the world and hold that death is a cruel and unusual punishment prohibited by the Eighth Amendment. The death penalty process consumes tremendous amounts of money and resources and fails to deter murders. The average cost to put someone to death is 1.1 million dollars that Americans are paying for (Huddar, Buzzle). That money can be used for a lot more things, such as, helping homeless veterans, who served our country, or children who live in poverty right here in America. It is used in an often arbitrary and racist manner. • 37. Chris Krakauer s Non Fiction Book Into The Wild Imagine this: a young adult vanishes without a trace to venture off into the wild and discover himself. With the bearings of a modern day bildungsroman, such a story may not seem uncommon; after all, young adult novels and films have both glorified and censured the youthful adventure tale, perpetuating an image of adolescents (particularly young males) as courageous yet foolhardy individuals who adamantly desire self discovery. Such depictions may not be far from reality, as demonstrated by the story of Chris McCandless in Jon Krakauer s non fiction book Into the Wild. Krakauer presents a relatively objective account of 24 year old McCandless s brief sojourn in the Alaskan wilderness and the events leading to his death, offering opinions from individuals who criticized the young man s arrogance and foolhardiness as well as those who extolled McCandless as a noble, brave hero. To establish an extreme and unyielding stance on Chris McCandless viewing him as either a righteous idealist or an inexperienced dunderhead would disregard McCandless s nuanced personality and his sensitive familial circumstances. When one takes into account McCandless s estrangement from his family and his worship of author Jack London s The Call of the Wild, it becomes clear that while McCandless was an ignorant and overconfident hypocrite who was unable to survive in the wild, he genuinely adhered to his beliefs and was not wholly responsible for his own death. • 45. The Moose By Elizabeth Bishop The poem The Moose by Elizabeth Bishop opens up by capturing the landscape and physical appearance of the Nova Scotia coast, where Bishop was taken to live with her grandparents in her younger days. As she is traveling to Boston she takes into account various images and perspectives she is seeing and hearing. Like some of Bishop s previous poems, The Moose focuses on the beauty and power of nature, and how nature can be almost a burden to our everyday life. Bishop does this by including vivid imagery, syntax, and alliteration throughout the poem. With Bishop being familiar with the Nova Scotia coast, she really has a connection in the poem with the landscape and what is going on around her, which the reader can appreciate throughout the first couple of stanzas. The reader can identify this connection with the vivid use of imagery Bishop portrays. She starts out the poem describing the scenery and a little bit of the culture that has surrounded her for most of her years. Lines 1 4 cite, From narrow provinces /of fish and bread and tea, / home of the long tides/ where the bay leaves the sea. With these particular lines, Bishop creates a soothing and comfortable image and tone. She sets the mood of the poem by the repetitive syntactical use of language. She continues on with the third stanza describing the sunset ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Kitchenpaid Research Paper One of the best gifts my husband ever bought me was a KitchenAid Pro Series 600 stand mixer. He knew I wanted one but wouldn t spend the nearly $600 on myself. He researched all the brands and models and settled on one. KitchenAid mixers are excellent to have because of their superior durability, multiple available attachments, time saving ability, and aesthetic appeal. After two years of heavy use I can definitely say it was an exceptional purchase. When selecting a mixer my husband did most of his research online; he read reviews and consumer reports as well as getting background information on the different companies. KitchenAid has been in business since 1919 and their only product was the stand mixer. For people like my husband and I, we appreciate that they are still made in the United States of America (Adams, 2009). KitchenAid had the best reviews and warranties out of all the similar type mixers.
