Similarities Between Animal Farm By George Orwell
Imagine a world where everyone is totally equal. No one is richer than anyone, no one is better
looking, no one is smarter, and each person is equal in every single way imaginable. Now, imagine
a world where you can rate someone based on your interactions with them. Surely one of these
worlds seems preferable, right? How much equalitydo we genuinely yearn for? If everyone is equal
no matter what, why try at anything? If someone is more exceptional than you at something, if
someone wronged you, if you are jealous of someone, then why not tarnish and smear their
reputation? Identically, these two worlds seem to be somewhat opposite, but they are actually
closely tied together. Both of these optimal realities stem from the human idea of... Show more

It is normal to crave others thinking highly of you, and for one s peers to not perceive them
negatively. The problem with people rating others, comes from again a relative standard of the
observer. Suppose you have a professor who gave you an unfair grade, you could claim to know
them and trash their reputation in pursuit of revenge in order to punish them. You could dictate
and taint the reputation of your former boyfriend for dumping you. You could also over praise
your boss to frame them as someone who is a thoughtful, generous, and a productive upstanding
member of society. Taken to the extreme, if enough people like a person, they could give off the
perception of being untouchable by the law, this person is such a wonderful and gregarious
being, they could not possibly be guilty error. How about the billionaire who could pay people
$10,000 to write a glowing review about them? Unless the legal system changed too, people
could be invulnerable to the power of the law. You could literally ruin a person s life and destroy
any possibility of them ever rebuilding their life. There is simply too much of a possibility for
abuse with the

Persuasive Speech On Sexual Assault On College Campuses
Ileana Quintero
CST 110 13
I. Attention Step
Being sexually assaulted is one of the worst things that can happen to anyone during their lifetime.
Thesis/Preview: Sexual assault is a major problem in the United States and, specifically, on
college campuses. While no one thing will be able to solve this issue, I believe RAINN is an
effective charity that is working well to combat sexual assault and raise awareness.
II. Need
1.The problem: Sexual assault has become one of the forefront issues of our day. There has been
an increasing rate of sexual assaults in our society and specifically on college campuses.
2.Here s why this problem is really a problem: According to the national sexual violence resource
center, one in 5 women will be sexually assaulted at some point in their lives. The cost of rape costs
more than any other crime, even drunk driving; so this is one of the most common crimes in the
USA. The national sexual violence resource center also reports that it costs more annually than any
other crime, including drunk driving. Rape comes out to $127 billion while murder only comes out
to $71 billion, and drunk driving $61 billion.
3.Here s how this problem impacts your life, audience: Sexual assault happens very often on
campuses. It can happen to anyone sitting in this room with me here today. 1 in 4 women
experience sexual assault while they are at college. Also, according to the national sexual violence
resource center, one in 5 women will be sexually

Color Symbolism In The Great Gatsby By F. Scott Fitzgerald
The Great Gatsby The Great Gatsby is one of the greatest novels ever written. It is best
remembered and spoken about for it s color symbolism. The main reason to why color
symbolism is a studied topic in this novel is because the writer was also a painter. F.Scott
Fitzgerald uses the colors gray, blue and yellow to symbolize hopelessness, loneliness, and new
money throughout the novel. Fitzgerald uses the color gray to give the reader a darkened
negative visual of what was occurring in the novel. Occasionally a line of gray cars crawls along
an invisible track, gives out a ghastly creak, and comes to rest... . In this passage, the color gray in
the novel leaves the reader with a dark and empty vibe and visual throughout the novel. Nick is

The Positive And Negative Impacts Of Social Media
Over 60% of 13 to 17 year olds have at least one profile on social media, with many spending
more than two hours a day on social networking sites. Social media are computer mediated
technologies that facilitate the creation and sharing of information, ideas, career interests, and
other forms of expression via virtual networks and communities. Some of the most popular
social media sites being Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and Tumblr. These sites have more than
100,000,000 users. So it brings up the question ; Is social media ok? Observers have noted a
range of positive and negative impacts of social media use. Although it can be addictive and
serves as an outlet for a hybrid bully that can hide behind a screen, which is often referenced as
Cyber bullying, it also forms an inevitable platform for people to connect to the world. While
social media can be harmful it is more handy than destructive. It is a way to spread awareness,
express oneself, provide comical relief and help one to meet others.
Social media is the easiest way to spread awareness. For example, in 2014 it seemed that pro
athletes all the way to your local barber were dumping buckets of ice cold water over their bodies
to show support for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis patients. Over the 2 months that people were
participating in the ALS challenge it raised 115 million dollars. Due to Anthony
Senerchia getting his story out to the internet it allowed the web to do its thing and notify billions
of people and use all the money that was made thanks to social media to conduct research. Social
2
media allows one sad story to be spread by reposting the story from just one account and then to
be shared to hundreds of other people s timeline. In order to be deemed trending at least 1k
shares need to be reposted. After this is accomplished leave it all to a touch of a button for the
story to spread to even the most remote places in the world. Even if a person doesn t directly follow
someone that reposted it will be brought to their attention through their peers likes, retweets, etc.
One important aspect of life is knowing who you are. A way to figure it out or realize what you are
into is by looking at what profiles you are following. Many people are

industries are booming, immense of competition is also involved. To stay ahead in the industry, to

overseas. I had been on a volunteer international medical mission across Vietnam, Nepal, and India
over the last four months, immersed in the local culture while shadowing surgeons,
anesthesiologists, emergency doctors, and pediatricians. Working closely with physicians, I took
patient vitals and history, cleaned and bandaged wounds, observed surgeries, discussed anatomy
and physiology, and recalled the hundreds of stories that patients have shared with me at the
bedside I relished every moment of it. My experiences taught me the immense level of

The Abolition Of The Federal Government
In the late 1940s and 1950s, Congress held hearings specifically for the abolishment of un American
actions in all aspects of the country; the public sector primarily. Varying levels of government,
universities, and Hollywood were subject to investigation due to alleged communist influence; it
was a communist themed witch hunt aptly named the Red Scare . This sense of fear and insecurity
caused Americans to reevaluate daily interactions and beliefs with one another. The House of Un
American Activities Committee (HUAC), an investigative committee of the U.S. House of
Representatives was head of these operations. In 1947, President Truman issued Executive Order

He declared that anything less, constitutes a threat to our democratic processes. Post WWII, the
rebuilding of Europe meant a need for goods. This massive demand fueled the consumer oriented
sector of the U.S. economy. Citizens touted a free open market system of capitalism while the
Soviet Union touted communism. Each side deemed their system as superior, claiming greater
freedom for their population. Americans bought and sold vast amounts of consumer goods to
help the economy grow. This led to U.S. global economic domination. This Consumer culture
demonstrated the superiority of the American way of life to communism and virtually redefined
the nation s historic mission to extend freedom to other countries (Foner 878). Due to rising
incomes and a rapid increase in consumer spending, items that were previously deemed luxuries
for the wealthy were now necessities and common in middle class households. Surges in
production and the economy during the 1950s essentially eliminated poverty for the majority of
Americans, dropping to 4.1%; Gross National Product per capita nearly doubled over the decade.

Athenian Democracy Dbq Essay
During the Golden Age in Greece, many things changed. Things that changed were the diversity of
political views and the social doings of the Athenians and the organization of the Athenians
economy. With the Golden Age, many groups worked together that wouldn t normally interact. The
biggest example of that is the relationship between Athenians and their democracy.
The first example of the relationship between the Athenians and their democracy during the golden
age was the diversity of political views that the Athenians followed. Too start in document 3 written
by Isocrates an Athenian political statesman, orator, and writer and made in the year 346 BCE and

document 4 written by Aeschines an Athenian political statesmen, orator, and writer, and made in
the year 330 BCE. The author s point of view from this document is that how the three forms of

Reflection Of The Incredibles
The Incredibles is more than a hero s journey; it also explores the ties between faith and family.
Although watching this movie does not reveal this fact immediately, we can understand this film
through a deep understanding and knowledge of Ostwalt s theory in his journal, Religion Popular
Movies. To begin, Ostwalt outlines three categories in which films can fall into: theological,
mythological and ideological. These three categories are intrinsic in nature making sense
semantically but Ostwalt delves deeper into the meanings in his journal and describes instances in
which viewers can relate. The Incredibles, in this case, falls under a mythological and critical lens.
With this information, we can start to uncover the easter eggs that Brad Bird, the director of The
Incredibles, has left for us. This film teaches us the importance of recognizing and accepting the
gifts that God has given us. The characters experience growth only when they have wholeheartedly
embraced the gifts that have been given to them. Once they fully accept and understand their gifts,
we see them flourish.

A Look at Today s Whaling Essay
A Look at Today s Whaling
The story of the whale is so remarkable, that were there not so many witnesses, I would not venture
to tell it, lest I be accused of exaggeration.
J.D.B Stillman, aboard the ship Plymouth, November 1850 (Stewart, 1995)
There is no doubt that humans have always been intrigued with the majestic beauty of the large
giants found in all of the world s oceans. Whales and people have had a long history together,
marked by many turns of events.
Long ago, native tribes, from many places in the world, depended largely on whales for protein in
their diets. They were also able to use much of the whale for oil, thus began a tradition of whaling.

The Change in Whaling
What exactly happened in the whaling industry that had such a detrimental effect on the whale
populations?
In the nineteenth century, commercial whalers began using whole fleets to hunt whales, with
each ship given a specific role. The largest ship, found at the center of the fleet, was the factory
ship. At the heart of these ships are many tanks. Christopher Ash worked as chief chemist on the
factory ship Balaena, and in his book Whaler s Eye, comments on the massive tanks found in
these ships. Balaena really is a tanker, and almost all of her hull...is subdivided into thirty six
tanks. It is rather like an egg crate with nine rows, each of four tanks extending across the ship,
and each tank able to take some five hundred tons of fuel or Diesel oil, which will be replaced
after cleaning by whale or sperm oil, or perhaps meat meal; sometimes they must be filled with
sea water as ballast. These tanks are impressively large, being well over thirty feet deep; so that
when standing on the bottom and looking up to the one small square of light far above, it is
difficult to believe that we can produce enough oil to fill the whole of that volume in twenty hours
(Ash, 1962, p.19). Underneath the tanks is the bottom of the boat. Above the tanks is the tank
deck. This holds the centrifuges used to separate oil and glue water, as well as driers and bagging
machines

Accounting And Financial Methods And Tools
Firm valuation relates to accounting in that it uses a combination of both accounting and financial
methods and tools. Some of the accounting tools used includes the valuation of firms assets,
valuation of a firm s profit and loss and also the valuation of a firm s obligations, which are
liabilities. Just like accounting, firm valuation process follows defined steps so as to arrive at the
correct value of the firm that is free from errors. There are five steps involved; preparation and
planning, adjusting the financial statements, choosing the business valuationmethods, applying the
selected valuation method and finally reaching the firm valuation conclusion. (Candon, 78). On the

After the determination of how and under what conditions of measuring the firm s value, the next
step is the gathering of relevant data and information that impacts the firm value. (Howard, 97).
Such data include; steady earnings above the industry norm, good marketing plans, skilled and
motivated staff, and well documented financial and accounting statements and well detailed
business procedures that are written down.
Some of the gathered data such as the firm s historical financial statements are adjusted so as to
prepare the inputs required for the firm s valuation methods and hence it leads us to the second step.
The main financial statements required for the firm s valuation are the income statement and the
balance sheet that are produced by the accounting process. This further shows the relationship
between firm valuation and accounting. The best way to value a firm with a historical approach
would be looking at the historical statements, income statement and balance sheet. Smaller firms
should be looked at the last three to five years while larger firms should have a longer period to
check. Due to the fact that, business owners have considerable discretion in how they use the firm s
assets and also what expenses and income they recognize, this rise the need to adjust the firm s
historical records. Constructing an accurate relationship between the required firm s assets and

Black Stereotypes In Advertising
Images of black icons and non white racial groups have always been used in advertising in the
United States, even prior to the Great Migration, in which millions of African Americans moved
from the South to the North. The archetypes used in these various advertisements have went on to
become cultural icons, and a prominent example of that is Aunt Jemima, the first black character
ever used as trademark for a consumer good. The use of these images is part of the minstrelsy
impulse prevalent in American culture, which combined with the progress of mass consumerism
and advertising pushed stereotyped images of minorities into American popular culture. This
combination of mass consumerism and minstrelsy was prominently displayed in the 1893 Chicago
World Fair. There is a common misconception that companies used images of minorities as they
were marketing these products to that demographic, and while that may be the case in later use of
black imagery in advertising, at the beginning, advertising was mainly targeted at the white middle
class. It was perceived at the beginning that only white peoplehad the economic power to purchase
various consumer goods, safe for a few black middle class people (Corey, Lecture). Aside from
black people, other ethnic minorities were also used to promote different products, such as the use
of Chinese American images to sell laundry products, which follows the stereotypethat most, if not
all Chinese people worked as launderers (Corey, Lecture).

classification of the consequences of disease and the implications for the individuals involved

ICF Framework
The ICF framework is divided into four key components that look into the interaction and

Passion in A Midsummer Night s Dream Essay
Passion in A Midsummer Night s Dream Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream may come
off as a simple comedy but is a complex play with many interesting aspects. Passion, a significant
characteristic, is often expressed through the play. Characters in the play show passion for
different reasons; Puck passions for mischief, Helena for Demetrius love and Bottom for theatrics,
are a few of the many examples. Passion shows much significance, being the most important
characteristic in the play. Puck is a mischievous sprite, involved with most magical events in the

Being the only character, other than Bottom, to enter both the human and fairy world, the play
makes Puck to be the protagonist. While there his trickery and trouble are antagonistic in nature,
his vital part is that of a positive character, ultimately resolving all problems. Puck treats the
entire idea of love as madness, the idea Shakespeare was conveying with his trickery. Helena is
portrayed as a desperate character, her passion being for the love of Demetrius. Helena spends
most of the story pursuing Demetrius in hope of receiving any form of affection in return, only
receiving affection due to magic. While chasing Demetrius, Helena says What worser place can

(II.i.208 210) Helena, knowing demeaning herself to the position of a dog, believes that she is not
worthy enough for such authority, therefore hoping she will be given the honour. Helena compares
herself to a dog in the sense that the more Demetrius rejects her, the harder she will try to receive
any emotion from her master. Although heartbroken by Demetrius hatred for her, Helena showers
Demetrius with comments, only to be continuously beaten down. This is explicitly shown when
Helena comments on Demetrius demeanor and is, again rejected, saying, You draw me, you hard

Sampling And Non Random Sampling
Sampling
As the population of this study was the Indian SMEs in Europe which were thousands in
numbers; it was notpractical to reach all of them within the timeframe available to complete this
dissertation. This made it inevitable to undertake sampling. Sampling is undertaken in order to
select units or members that are representative of the population. There are mainly two kinds of
sampling namely probability and non probability sampling (Sekaran and Bougie, 2009). A
probability sample is a sample in which every element of the population has a known and equal
likelihood of being selected. Non probability sample is any sample in which little or no attempt is
made to get a representative cross section of the population (Lamb et al. 2013).
This study made use of non random sampling. A non random sampling method is one where each
member of the population does not have a known or calculable non zero probability of being
selected (Marchevsky, 2000). The response rate of the questionnairewas low as expected at 26. 08
%. Of the 46 companies which were sent, only 12 completed questionnaires could be collected. A

with whom interviews were conducted.

sixteenth century to the 1860 s. Britain became the largest slave provider, 3.1 million slaves
were transported, but only 2.7 survived. The government of Great Britain banned slave ships
from engaging in the slave trade because they believed it was not morally correct or morally right
to have slaves. Walvin argues that the British played a major and involuntary role in bringing an
end to the slave trade. He also believes if the British were not the initiators for the slave... Show

In 1761 the Quakers believed it was a christian duty to end slavery. All quakers on both sides of
the Atlantic were banned from owning slaves. If you were caught still owning a slave you were
disowned from the group. It was not until 1783 when the Quakers came together and presented a
petition to the House of Commons against the slave trade. The quakers received three hundred
signatures from other quakers. After looking at the amount of signatures they set up a formal
committee. The committee had the original nine quakers plus three Anglicans; Granville Sharp,
Philip Sansom, and Thomas Clarkson. Once Thomas Clarkson joined the committee he took
matters into his own hands and started to get more public attention. Clarksons journey to stop
the slave trade began in 1785 when he wrote an essay called Is it lawful to make slaves of others
against their wills? . The quakers read the essay and published it in 1786. A year later in May of
1787 Clarkson and eleven others created the Society for Effecting the Abolition of the Slave Trade
. Clarkson realized that they would not pass the bill unless they had research backing up with
views on who it was unethical to have slaves. He began by traveling. On his travels he collected
research by observing, finding witnesses, interviewing slaves, making notes and assembling
evidence. Once he had the research he traveling more than thirty five thousand miles informing

Is Bilbo A Hero In The Hobbit
In The Hobbit, Bilbo goes from a cozy hobbit to a adventures hobbit. Bilbo may have been small
for the adventure, but he had the biggest heart off them all. These three point show how Bilbo
became a hero. In chapter 5 Bilbo is trapped in a cave with Gollum. Bilbo and Gollum agree to
play a game of riddles that could mean life or death. When they get to the last one gollum says to
ask a question. When Gollum does get Bilbo s question wrong he remembers he lost his precious.
Then Gollum led the way out without knowing he was being followed. Secondly, When the
Dwarves were captured by the Elven king, Bilbo scouted the kingdom until he could come up with

Explanatory factors of bank dividend policy: revisited
John Theis and Amitabh S. Dutta
D. Abbott Turner College of Business, Columbus State University, Columbus, Georgia, USA
Abstract
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the Dickens et al. model of bank holding company
dividend policy. They identified five explanatory factors in a sample of bank holding companies
(BHCs). Banking companies typically pay larger dividends and more often than industrial firms.
Investors often look at the dividends as being important return variables. Design/methodology

They report the market value of the firm first increases as insider holdings increase from 0 to 5
per cent. As insider holdings increase from 5 to 25 per cent, the market value of the firm
decreases. As insider holdings increase beyond 25 per cent, the market value of the firms again
increases. They argue their results are evidence of managerial entrenchment. While lower and
higher levels of insider holdings support the notion that insider holdings lead to lower agency
costs, the middle level of ownership is a range over which managerial control seems to be linked
with a significantly lower market price of equity. The Morck et al. (1988) non linearity results
may be sample and/or time dependent. However, Wruck (1989) confirms the range of
entrenchment reported by Morck et al. She finds in a sample of firms announcing a private equity
sale firm value increases significantly for firms with low and high levels of insider holdings. Her
findings confirm that, in a middle range of insider holdings, firm value decreases significantly. In a
study tracking the decline of banking in the USA, Gorton and Rosen (1995), find a non linear
relation between insider shareholdings and risk taking in lending activity. Using a sample of 458
BHCs, they present a model illustrating how managerial ownership of banks can lead to
entrenchment, resulting in management activities that reduce firm value. Gorton and Rosen s
findings support the non linear effect

Evaluation Of A Safety Management System Essay
AVN 1106 Major Assignment

Date of Submission 16/09/2016
Abstract:
With the expectation from CASA for newly established flight operations to design and implement
a Safety Management System (SMS) the task has been set to do so for an airline with 12 regional
aircraft and 200 employees. The aim of an SMS is to monitor and manage the overall safety
operations that occur within an airline. The use of an SMS has proven extremely successful as it
solidifies the communication between operators and management. An SMS consists of four (4) main
components: Safety assurance; Safety risk management; safety promotion; and safety policy. Each
of these components plays a major role in ensuring the safe operation of an airline.
Introduction:
With the aviation industry exponentially expanding it is essential to ensure that those safety
standards which are in place are working effectively. It is primarily the responsibility of the Chief
Executive Officer (CEO) to ensure that his or her airline is not only profitable but is also safe. The
balance between production and protection is a fine line and as such there need to be systems in
place to ensure production is not outweighing protection.
Airlines in the developed world endeavour to not only meet, but to exceed the expectations of the
standards set by regulatory bodies within the aviation industry. This can be done through the
implementation of an SMS as well as by revising and enhancing

Aphorisms In The Importance Of Being Earnest
One of Oscar Wilde s most notable works, The Importance of Being Earnest, showcases Wilde s
bizarre and arguably backwards take on the literary device known as an aphorism. Most
commonly, aphorisms are used in a didactic context and tend to reflect some form of ethical
guideline or universal truth. It is easy to write off Wilde s utilization of the device as ironic, as
the aphorisms used in the play demonstrate values that are diametrically opposed to those we
recognize in the real world; however, due to the aforementioned fact that aphorisms are typically
meant to point out a universal truth, it can be argued that Wilde s use of the device is quite proper
in the sense that the specific universe created in the work just happens to be different

How Did Helen Keller Contribute To Real Life
The real life heroic figure that was chosen for this reflection is Helen Keller. Helen Keller was a
well known author, educator and social activist in America in the early 20th century (Helen
Keller Biography, 2016, para. 1). Helen Keller was also the first deaf and blind person to graduate
from college with a Bachelor of Arts degree (Helen KellerTimeline, n.d.). She was born on the
27th of June in 1880 as a physically healthy child to Arthur H. Keller and Kate Adams. Helen
Keller was the first of the three children born to her parents and had two older step brothers from

in establishing braille as the official reading and writing language for the blind (The History of

confused the blind immensely and made communication difficult as not everybody studied with

Stipends for College Athletes
It s about time: Stipends for College Athletes Imagine being a college football star and finding
out that a jersey representing your school with your name and number on the back is not only
selling for $110 in stores nationally, but it is profiting higher than some professional sports jerseys.
Now, imagine that you as that student athlete will not be making a single penny off your
institution using your name for monetary profit. Why you ask? Because according to the
governing body of collegiate sports, the National Collegiate Athletic Association or NCAA, this
would be considered an act that would bring an athlete out of his amateur status. Yet, it is okay to

It s time for change to take place, college athletes should be rewarded like the professionals in the
NCAA and conferences across the country market them to be. College athletes should receive
stipends because there is a large discrepancy between what college athletes are worth and how
much they are given, because athletic scholarships do not cover the full cost of living, and
because the operation, money, and industry associated with college athletics is too great to still
be titled amateur . The popularity of college sports and its value to entertainment is
skyrocketing. The NCAA is the head organization in control of a hundred billion dollar industry.
The disgusting disparity arrives at the difference between what Kastel 4 college athletes are
rewarded with and the actual revenues the NCAA is collecting. For this discrepancy college
athletes need to be rewarded for their effort and should be given stipends. Television broadcasting
contracts, shoe and apparel deals, and commercial advertising rake in billions of dollars for the

The Crisis And World Economic Recession

having no hope of a recovery. The United States of America was in turmoil as their financial sector

speaker for the National convention, some were calling him the future of the Democratic party. His
name: Barack Obama, at the time no one had an incline as to what he would one day eventually

what his circumstances have put him in. In his speech, he showed his belief in one America and

Review of Herbert Schlossberg s Book, Idols for...
Writing in the late 1980s, Herbert Schlossberg provides a thorough analysis of current trends in
American culture in his book Idols for Destruction: The Conflict of Christian Faith and American
Culture. Many scholars have examined Western civilization and concluded that we are in its
declining years. Some use analogies of space: rise, zenith, and fall; others use analogies of
biology: birth, maturity, and death. Schlossberg refuses to see all cultures as following these
patterns, but rather attempts to use the concept of judgment, based on the biblical example of the
prophets: With their silver and gold they made idols for their own destruction (Hos. 8:4). If the
idols are destroyed, and we return to worship the true God, we can expect... Show more content on

In dealing with idols of humanity and money, Schlossberg emphasizes the overarching role of
envy in Western societies. Envy is often the cause of what he calls resentiment (a term originating
with Nietzsche) a festering mental condition that wishes injury to someone whose possessions or
qualities are envied. Where a Christian ethic once encouraged an equality of opportunity, which
necessarily produces unequal results, resentiment desires an equality of results. So the gap
between the rich and the poor is seen as an evil in itself, and poverty is redefined from the lack of
food or other necessities to the lack of an affluent lifestyle. When combined with materialism, which
implies that wealth can be the only measure for quality of life, resentiment leads to all sorts of
redistributive policies: welfare, government induced inflation, credit assistance, corporate bailouts,
trade regulations, etc. However, these policies are deceptive, since they never actually help the
poor, but instead make them dependent, while at the same time enriching the people in charge of
the redistribution. They have become a legal form of stealing and one in which the majority of
people in Western society gladly participate. Idols of nature include the material and the immaterial.
Materialism claims that matter is all

Muscular Dystrophy Case Study
Duchenne s Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is caused by recessive mutations in the dystrophin gene on
the X chromosome affecting 1 in every 3,500 5,000 male births. As shown in Fig. 1, dystrophin
protein anchors the actin cytoskeleton to the extracellular matrix, playing critical roles in
stabilizing and protecting the musclefibers against strain related injuries. As outlined in Fig. 2,
dystrophin mutations lead to myocyte fragility and membrane damages with repeated contractions,
resulting in increased cell permeability. Consequently, calcium ions diffuse into the myocytes,
activating calcium dependent proteases to cause further cell necrosis. , Additionally, creatine kinase

Treatments are aimed to control symptoms, preserve muscle functions and improve quality of life.
Prednisone is a type of commonly prescribed corticosteroid known for its anti inflammatory and
immunosuppressive properties through direct gene expression regulations. The precise mechanism
by which prednisone increases muscle strength in DMD patients is unknown, but hypothesises have
been made based on its modulatory effects in the myocyte inflammation, degeneration and
regeneration pathways following damage. As illustrated in Fig. 3, under healthy physiology
condition, myocyte damage stimulates signaling pathways that promotes both degeneration and
regeneration of the damaged tissue to promote healing. The extend of muscle healing is dependent
on the balance between the two processes. As outlined in Fig. 4, initial myocyte damage activates
inflammatory cells such as neutrophils and macrophages to inflict further necrosis through the
release of free radicals and proteases. The damaged myocytes are then removed via phagocytosis to
provide space for healthy tissue regeneration. The regeneration process is initiated through the
activation of myocyte precursor cells called satellite cells to differentiate and fuse at the site of
damage. However the proliferating abilities of satellite cells are reduced in DMD patients due to
the absence of dystrophin proteins, resulting in impaired muscle regeneration capacities. As a result,
inflammation

This can be a problem as more devices connect to and use a network the more data they use and
can cause a network to become congested. A solution to reduce congestion is to use many small
wireless receivers within the range of a large tower to spread out the devices upon smaller more
confined networks when within cities and high density areas. And simply using long range low
capacity towers when in the country side and places where fewer devices will be on a network
at any given time, this is a combination of macro cells and micro cells to ensure network
stability. At layer 2 comes the need to differentiate between devices on the network and needs a
standard to work in place usually used at layer 2 in IP based communications over the internet is
Ethernet II and uses MAC addresses differentiating between devices by using a hexadecimal
format. This is done by burning a unique ID into a network card by a manufacturer, however
rather than the normal Wi Fi a better option for long range communications is WiMAX. The
differences in Wi Fi and WiMAX is that WiMAX has an effective distance of up to 90km while Wi
Fi only has a range of up to 100m and data rates on WiMAX is up to 40mbps compared to Wi Fi
with up to 54mbps. Next layer 3 the Network layer is where the Internet Protocol (IP) will take
place and be defined. There are two options to use here IPv4 or IPv6.

Characteristics Of Revolutionary In The Revolution Of The...
The American Revolution was, in fact, revolutionary. Revolutionary means to work against. So, in
this case, there were many instances which made the American Revolution revolutionary. For
example, Benjamin Franklin wrote the quote, Join or Die, in 1754. This quote was intended to,
urge the Thirteen colonies to unite behind England in its struggle against the French and Native
American forces during the French and Indian war. This means that he was allies with the British.
So, him and the British were working together to work against the French.
But, unfortunately that alliance did not last very long because in 1775 the Battle of Bunker Hill
was fought between the British and the Americans. While the British ended up being victors of the
battle, the only thing they gained was a confidence boost. Also, in 1775 76 Thomas Paine wrote
Common Sense to advocate independence from Great Britain to people in the Thirteen colonies.
While you might think the French and Indian war was fought between the French and the Indians it
was actually fought between the French and the British while the Indians were divided between the
two.
During the American Revolution there were two groups of people. Loyalists and Patriots. Loyalists
were the people who stood by the British during the American Revolution. The Loyalists, wanted to
pursue peaceful forms of protest because they believed that violence would give rise to mob rule or
tyranny. They also believed that independence would mean the

Observation paper
The most naturally challenge and quality data collection and exploration method is observation,
Participant observation is in some ways both the most natural and the most challenging of
qualitative data collection methods participant observation is used across the social sciences, as
well as in various forms of commercial, public policy, and nonprofit research.. Such discovery is
natural in that all of us have done this repeatedly throughout our lives, learning what it means to be

circles and associations. The challenge of observation is taking notes, recording voices, sounds, and
images; and asking questions that are designed to uncover the meaning behind the behaviors.
Sociologists also conducted participant observation studies and discussed the use of the technique
early on, including Beatrice Webb (1926) in the 1880s and the Chicago school of urban

Many buildings and streets were constructed, and it served as cultural and social center of North
and South America. When 1810 came, however, a Mexican Independence movement, started by
Miguel Hidalgo, caused Mexican peasants to fight against the Spanish government. After 11 years,
the fight was successful, and Mexico declared its independence.
Mexico City was the center of many more conflicts in Mexican history. In 1847, the city was
captured by U.S. forces under Winfield Scott to end the Mexican American War. The price for
Mexico was the loss of the land that is now most of the southern U.S. In 1863, the city was

Over the next 30 years, Mexico City really began to thrive. Under Porfirio Diaz, more roads and

and foreign investment greatly increased, as well. In 1910, Mexico City had grown to a population

My Experience In School
There are about 180 days of school in a year and this was the last one of my 7th grade year. I had
just finished my 6th hour exam and I was instructed to help clean some of the basses. Once that
was done it was almost time to leave. As time winded down, I stood anxiously at the door waiting
for the bell to ring. When it rang, we all ran out of the school. Summer vacation had started. When
I got home, I finished packing up my clothes because the next day, my dad and I were going to
Colorado.
When I woke up the next day, my dad and I got in the car and drove to Chicago. It took around 2
hours to drive to the airport, but after we arrived there, we checked our bags and went through

Public Grievances With Emphasis On Administrative Law Essay
The government of a country has been understood to be of vital importance for purposes of
stability, responsibility, and accountability of the nation. China s government is no less different
from this important context. With the complex structure of China s government, scholars have
argued that the government s function, with its high favorability rate, is an interesting dynamic that
no other country possesses. Although there are many functions that a government should be
fulfilling, Teresa Wright, in her book, Party and State in Post Mao China, examines how China is
able to satisfy basic functions of government that she argues is of importance. Wright explains that
specific government features have influenced its ability to fulfill their governmental functions. As
Wright argues, the main focus of this paper shall be to examine China and its ability in addressing
public grievances with emphasis on administrative law. Specifically, the paper shall attempt to
answer whether or not the Chinese government is adequately attempting to address public
grievances. The aim of this paper is not to argue whether or not administrative law is successful in

of their government. Part I of this paper shall outline the history and creation of administrative law

College Athletes Should Get Paid Essay
Would paying college athletes make them spoiled or would it give something more than just a

anything in return for it. They put their heart and soul into the sport, they have done for their
entire life and worked very hard to get where they are now. Not getting paid until they go
through school is unfair and most athletes leave school early without a degree and no knowledge
of how to manage their money when they get it. Although college athletes do get money from
scholarships, they should be able to get paid because their sport is their job and when they leave
college, they would have something more than just a degree. For college athletes their sport is
basically their job. When people become adults and they are looking for a job, usually they work

am not the greatest at math, but 453,347 athlete s times $1,500 each equals out to $680,020,500.
That s a lot of Benjamins for only one month (Ireland). With there being so many college athletes
around the country, the NCAA would need to distribute massive amounts of money over the coins
of just one year. By the time 3 to 4 years go by the NCAA would be losing more money than they
would actually be making and eventually they would go bankrupt. People who disagree with
athletes getting paid do have valid arguments, but this situation is up to the

Pamela Anderson s Use Of Sex Symbols In Advertising
Whereas men and women are both attracted to sex, leads back to the legendary saying sex sales
. While more men are attracted to big boobs, blonde hair and etc they are more than likely to be
targeted in this ad. For centuries, sex symbols have had control over the advertisement world.
The most common ones are Marylyn Monroe, who was a huge sex symbol in the 50 s, and
Elizabeth Taylor in 40 s. The definition of a sex symbol is a person who is widely noted for their
sexual attractiveness. Sex symbols are used to sell almost anything in the advertisement industry.
All throughout this add, there were red flags that pandered more to the malesex or lesbians. This ad
has a picture of Pamela Andersonin a blue bikini, with her iconic enormous blonde hair. She was
positioned in a pose where her legs were propped up and she was sticking out her chest to draw
attention to her boobs. The ad also labeled her body parts, drawing further attention to her body.
The whole point of the ad was to go vegetarian, because eating an animal is like eating ourselves.
I feel that this ad made use of standard sex sales strategies by using Pamela Anderson, who is a
well known sex symbol, due to settle debates in class I felt the need to do a to ask fellow citizens
if the ad was using the sex sales strategy , and the perception of eating meat as masculine. Going
vegetarian has nothing to do with a half naked women. Everyone knows of the legendary sex
symbols Elizabeth Taylor, Marylyn Monroe from

Censorship In Olive s Ocean
There are many books that have been banned or challenged nationwide. Books get banned and
challenged for a variety of reasons. Olive s Ocean, by Kevin Henkes, was removed from the
shelves due to several claims of it having sexual content and inappropriate language. A challenge is
an attempt to remove or restrict materials based on the objections of a person or group. A challenge
against a bookis a formal written complaint that requests a book to be removed. Challenges aren t
just someone expressing their point of view; they re an attempt to remove material from
educational places. Challenges are viewed as a threat to freedom of speech and choice. The First

The ALA office for intellectual freedom promotes awareness of challenges towards library
material. The ALA promotes the freedom to choose and the freedom to express one s opinion.
The ALA OIF compiles lists of challenged and bans as reported to the media and submitted to
them. The ALA has formed a banned books week, which is celebrated the last week of
September each year. Banned books week brings national attention to the consequences of
censorship. The ALA also supports librarians that are facing challenges to materials in their
libraries. Banned books are usually removed from libraries or schools. Online resources such as
e books and educational websites are also being blocked and filtered in libraries. People believed
that e books were virtually censor proof and that they would reduce the number of books being
banned. Teachers in Colorado were subject to be removed if they were caught teaching from the

Similarities And Differences Between Heathers And Mean Girls
Movies are bound to share certain similarities and differences. Reoccurring themes, character
archetypes, familiar settings, and recycled plots are elements that are consistently repeated in films;
however, every film has individual components in which audiences are able to relate to and
interpret in separate perspectives. Two different movies that share common similarities include the
1988 black comedy Heathersand the 2004 teen comedy Mean Girls. Although the movies Heathers
and Mean Girls take place in different decades, they are both cult classics, contain iconic quotes and
characters, and involve cliques with four members eventually revolving around a single member of
the group.
A difference between the two films, would be that they take place in separate decades. Since
Heathers takes place in the 1980s, certain elements including fashion, language, and culture, are
significantly different from those featured in Mean Girls. In Heathers, the main characters are
seen wearing oversized blazers and shoulder pads, while the girls in Mean Girls sported early
2000s fashion including velour tracksuits and jeans. The pop culture references in both films vary
greatly as well since both decades have distinctive artists, movies, and figures that were considered
relevant at the time. In addition, the different time periods in both films demonstrate the
development of technology and its usage in society. For example, in Heathers the only phones seen
in the film are in the

Agrochemicals and pesticides present significant part of the agricultural sector. Agro industry plays
an important role in the country economy. Chemicals are used in a wide variety of products and
play an important role in the world economy. They are constituents of materials, are used in
preparations and products and are embedded in complex physical systems. While chemicals are a
significant contributor to national economies, sound chemical management across the life cycle
from extraction to disposal is essential to avoid significant risks to human health and the
environment, along with their associated economic costs, and to maximize benefits for human well

Herbicides accounted for the largest proportion of the global market, as shown in Table 14. An
industry research firm, the Freedonia Group, projects that this market will continue to grow,

global pesticide expenditure, followed closely by the Asia/Pacific region (27 and 24 per cent,
respectively). Central and South America and Western Europe accounted for 19 and 17 per cent
of expenditure, respectively. Looking forward to 2014, analysts predict that the most rapid growth
in pesticide expenditure will occur in Central and South America. Pesticide consumption in Africa
and the Middle East is also expected to grow rapidly, although total consumption in the region will
continue to be small compared to that in other regions. Table 1: Global Pesticide Markets
Herbicides account for the largest percentage of expenditure on pesticides worldwide, due
primarily to large expenditure in developed countries. However, their use in developing countries is
increasing as well. The global market in herbicides is highly concentrated with a handful of
multinational companies accounting for the vast majority of herbicide sales. Adoption of
herbicides in developing countries is often associated with a package of agricultural

Objectivity in Journalism
Journalists should express their ideologies and opinions while covering poverty, however, at the
same time they should aim to maintain the objectivity and impartiality standards for effective and
truthful and accurate reporting.
In news reporting, objectivity is seen as one of the chief values for journalists. The objectivity norm
guides to separate the facts from opinions and focus on reporting only the factual content, resulting
in neutral and detached reports rather than emotional ones (Schudson, 2001). On the other hand,
reporting poverty appears as a more complex and sensitive issue which may often require the
journalist to put forward some of their views to provide the reader with more realistic portrayal of a
situation.
One ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However Wainwright criticises the idea of emotional journalism and argues that one should remain
dispassionate in order to give an accurate account of events. Although more sensitive approach
seems appropriate while reporting on issues such as poverty, he states that journalists should still
try to remain objective (Quoted in Harcup, 2009: 92).
While reporting on poverty, the notion of objectivity should be used a guideline for journalists to
ensure accurate and realistic reporting rather than merely providing the readers with personal and
subjective ideas on the issue. Boyer (1981) suggested that objectivity can be defined as balancing
different sides of an issue and presenting all the significant points; separating facts from values, but
considering the values as relevant; minimising the influence of personal opinions, attitude or
involvement with the case; and finally avoiding any malicious, deceitful or slant purposes (Cited in
Watson, 1998: 98).
The coverage of poverty in the news includes a number of representations, which are not always an
accurate portrayal of the situation but often constitute facts and reinforce stereotypes. The general
understanding of global poverty for the public is derived from the media

Fuel Usage Of Electric Vehicles
Introduction
In 2015, transport energy demand in New Zealand was up 2305.56 GWh, the largest annual
increase in 20 years (MBIE, 2016). This energy came from non renewable fossil fuels, and as such
is not sustainable in the long term. The subject of this research is to investigate the impact of
targeting 20% of the light passenger fleet being electric.
The current electric vehicle fleet is less than 1% of the light passenger fleet, which consists
mainly of petrol and diesel vehicles (Ministry of Transport (MoT), 2016). If the New Zealand
government hopes to increase this figure to 20%, one of the main driving factors is reducing fossil
fuel consumption.
At face value, electric vehicles are the solution to reducing fossil fuel usage in the ... Show more

Vehicle fleet data (MoT, 2015) reveal that 29,249 million kilometres were travelled by 2,811,703
light passenger vehicles (LPV) on petrol. Hence, the average km travelled per LPV was:29,249
million kilometres2,811,703 LPV=10402.69 km/LPV The average light petrol fleet fuel economy
in 2015 was 9.59 L(petrol)/100km (MoT, 2015). Thus, on average, each LPV used:
10402.69 km/LPV9.59 L(petrol)/100km =997.91 L(petrol)/LPV Hence, the total petrol consumed
by 20% of vehicles in the LPF is:
997.91 L(petrol)/LPV603,624 LPV=602.36 million L(petrol)
Consequently, this means that electric vehicles will save about 600 million litres per year if they
replaced 20% of the LPF. Furthermore, in terms of CO2 emissions this equates to: 22.9619.59 L
/100km10402.69 km/LPV603624 LPV=13,826,796.2 kgCO2 not emitted from petrol consumption
per year.
Total fossil fuel offset
While electric vehicles do not directly burn fossil fuels, electricity production does. As a result, the
total fossil fuel offset from electric vehicles is less than the fossil fuels burned when using petrol
vehicles.
A popular electric vehicle in NZ is the Nissan Leaf (MoT, 2017). The following calculations use
the specifications of this car, which has an energy consumption rate of 18.7 kWh/100 km (US
Department of Energy, 2017). For an electric vehicle (EV) to travel the same distance annually as a
typical light passenger petrol vehicle, the amount of energy consumed is:

The Financial Crisis Of The Foreclosure Crisis
Introduction
During the real estate boom of the early 2000 s Wall Street began offering a product called
mortgage backed securities that were essentially multiple home loans bundled together. They then
started selling off pieces of those loans to investors who wanted exposure to the booming real
estate market in the form of a tradeable security. As the popularity of mortgage backed securities
increased the banks needed more product which were more mortgages. The pool of borrowers
with a good credit history diminished the lenders lowered their qualification standards to satisfy
the growing mortage demand. To entice more borrowers and speculators lenders began to offer
loans to people with bad credit and even no down payment. The term liar ... Show more content on

The crises showed just how interconnected the banking system is throughout the world. The
Lehman Brothers bank closure in 2008 created a major financial crisis around the world due to its
influence (The Economist, 2013). It took the government s massive bail outs to prevent total
collapse of the financial system and to some extent economic collapse of the country. This
government action set a precedent and to some sent a message that the reckless action by the
banks in the name of profit is fine because they now have a safety net. It is a good example of how
the collapse of a big financial institution that has national and global influence can affect several
interrelated firms to the detriment of the country s economic interests. This paper therefore,
examines the notion too big to fail in relation to banking.
The Concept Too Big to Fail Kaufman (2014) explains that the concept too big to fail is one that is
complex to warrant regulation to prevent it from failing. Due to its influence, the government must
intervene to prevent it from becoming insolvent. The special regulation to prevent failure includes
a requirement for higher capital, putting in place measures such as increased liquidity. Besides,
frequent supervision by regulatory bodies like the Basel Committee, the Federal Reserve, or the
Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) are necessary to prevent the collapse of too big to

A Diary That Affected The World By Anne Frank
Anne Frank wrote a diary that affected the world by showing she was a normal girl who wanted to
be her true self. Her diary was the only place she could really be herself (Frank 1). Anne s dream
was that her diary would one day become a book. She wrote that she wanted to be famous and to
help others. Her influence on World War II was based on her life experiences in hiding, and her
diary.
Frank s life was full of hard times and persecution. She was born on July 12, 1929. She received
her famous diary on her 13th birthday, the same day of her very first diary entry (Frank 1). It
was wartime 1942 in Amsterdam and Adolf Hitler was at his height of power (Byers 36). Hitler
had given Germany the scapegoat they had been looking for: the Jews. World War II was raging
across Europe, making its way toward changing the life of Anne Frank. The Nazis had taken much
of Europe and there was barely a place the Jews could go without fear of being persecuted. The
Nazi special forces, the SS Army, had taken away many of the Jewish families in Amsterdam and
were offering a cash reward to anyone who turned in a Jew. The Nazis isolated the Jews from
daily life: They only allowed the Jews to walk, gave them a curfew, banned them from
swimming and going to the movies, and made them wear a yellow star so they could quickly be
identified. Hitler fanned the flame of an age old prejudice until it exploded into a violent hatred
(Lewis 4). The icing on the cake for the Jews was when Hitler started

Early Church Missionaries
Much can be learned from early church missionaries. Two such missionaries were Ninian (360
432) and Patrick (389 461). Ninian, the apostle of Scotland, was trained in Rome, but was British.1
While in France, Ninian, an apostle of Scotland, was introduced to the idea that a monk should be a
missionary. 2 He established Christianitywith the people group known as the Southern Picts.3
The apostle of Ireland, Patrick, was brought up in northwest England by a Christian family. When
he was young he was captured by pirates and sold in Ireland, where he managed to escape to Gaul
and his journey to monasticism began. Upon learning monasticism, he returned to Ireland as a
missionary, but he was not the first missionary to the Irish. However,... Show more content on

Gangsta Culture And Cultural Resistance
For the longest time art has been a tool for expressing one s self, passion, anger, pain, grief, or
even resistance. Cultural resistance, as Stephen Duncombe claims, can provide a sort of free space
for developing ideas and practices (S. Duncombe 5). There have been multiple theorists trying to
identify what depicts a subcultural group as culturally resistant. Cultural resistance can take
different forms and can be expressed via different media depending on the subcultural group. Some
theorists also identify cultural resistance as a form of political resistance (p. 6). The Gangsta Culture

How Organizations Can Move Beyond The First Steps Of...
ABSTRACT
Change is best carried through by the many, not by just the hero leader. Ten challenges to the
initiation and sustaining of change are elaborated, illustrated by a rich range of case studies and
supported by a practical checklist.
We all know that change and innovation are of the essence for organisations today and in future.
The bad news, according to Peter Senge, is that most change initiatives fail. The good news is that
Senge and his co authors think they know why and what to do about it.
Senge is the guru of the learning organisation whose previous book The Fifth Discipline was hailed
as a groundbreaking book about organisational transformation. Senge and his co authors, all of
them change experts, call this new book a Fifth Discipline resource . The aim of the book is to
show how organisations can move beyond the first steps of corporate change and sustain the
momentum.
The problems that cause the failure of change projects cannot be solved by more expert advice,
better consultants or more committed managers, say Senge and co. They stem from our most basic
ways of thinking. Unless these change, new initiatives will only produce the same unproductive
types of action. The fundamental problem is that most change initiatives deal only with growth
processes and not with the limiting processes. We need to change our way of thinking so that we
can understand the forces that impede progress and develop strategies for dealing with them.

How does phonics develop early reading and how should phonics be taught?
The most important skill any child can leave primary school with is the ability to read
independently and effectively for meaning. (DFE National Literacy Strategy)
Reading has become an integral part of our lives; within the world we live in today we rely
heavily on information and environmental text. It is important that from an early age Children are
immersed in books everyday. With parents reading short stories to there children daily it will be
inevitable that those children will stand a better chance at becoming stronger fluent readers.

They can also use this technique to pull apart those sounds that would help with spelling of words.
For example hat = h a t. (Rowlingson) Whereas Analytical phonics is the complete opposite as they
will start with a whole word and analyse a part of it. In English there are 44 sounds (Phonemes)
which are written using 26 letters of the alphabet (Browne 2011, p27) There are many more
Graphemes than Phonemes with most phonemes being represented by a number of different
graphemes.
Synthetic phonics can be taught in many ways. The Primary Framework for Literacy (DfES,
2006a) gives a progressive plan on how to teach phonics. I found during my time with
Foundation year 2 s the teacher I was working with concentrated on implementing four new
letters every week as well as recapping what they had learnt from the previous week. I asked her
if it worked well and she certainly seemed to think so. Before she would be doing a new letter a
day, although this would allow her to teach at a good pace she noticed the children were
struggling to remember all the letters and sounds they would learn. Because of this she had to
revise the way she was teaching the phonics to go at a pace the children were comfortable with.
She revised her plan so that every day her children would recap over the letters they had
previously been taught. I noticed that however much planning was in place that it was always best
to go by how the children would cope and over time you will

Example Of Knowledge Argument
INTRODUCTION OF THE THESIS According to Currie (2015), philosophy is the activity of
searching for a reflective understanding of ourselves and also to know about the natural and
social worlds we live in. As we know, philosophy is also related to the phrase thinking about
thinking. We can get to know what is actually happening in this world and we also will solve some
of the confusions that we face in life. Knowledge is the fact and information of knowing something
that through some experiences. In addition, argument is the process of arguing or disagreeing about
a statement that has discussed. For example, we might argue about the statement that we have the
opposite view from the others so we start to make up some proves to solve this matter. In this
assignment, we will discuss about the knowledge argument. From a thesis that we have read, we
could identify its position stated by Frank Jackson.
Knowledge argument stands against physicalism which is proposed by Frank Jackson. Physicalism
or materialism is distinguished with phenomenal consciousness of experiences that depicts mind is
subjective and implies physicality.
Frank Jackson believes that the physical truth seen is not always the whole truth. There is also
phenomenal truths learnt through the things we see where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

  • 2. Similarities Between Animal Farm By George Orwell Imagine a world where everyone is totally equal. No one is richer than anyone, no one is better looking, no one is smarter, and each person is equal in every single way imaginable. Now, imagine a world where you can rate someone based on your interactions with them. Surely one of these worlds seems preferable, right? How much equalitydo we genuinely yearn for? If everyone is equal no matter what, why try at anything? If someone is more exceptional than you at something, if someone wronged you, if you are jealous of someone, then why not tarnish and smear their reputation? Identically, these two worlds seem to be somewhat opposite, but they are actually closely tied together. Both of these optimal realities stem from the human idea of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is normal to crave others thinking highly of you, and for one s peers to not perceive them negatively. The problem with people rating others, comes from again a relative standard of the observer. Suppose you have a professor who gave you an unfair grade, you could claim to know them and trash their reputation in pursuit of revenge in order to punish them. You could dictate and taint the reputation of your former boyfriend for dumping you. You could also over praise your boss to frame them as someone who is a thoughtful, generous, and a productive upstanding member of society. Taken to the extreme, if enough people like a person, they could give off the perception of being untouchable by the law, this person is such a wonderful and gregarious being, they could not possibly be guilty error. How about the billionaire who could pay people $10,000 to write a glowing review about them? Unless the legal system changed too, people could be invulnerable to the power of the law. You could literally ruin a person s life and destroy any possibility of them ever rebuilding their life. There is simply too much of a possibility for abuse with the ... Need 1.The problem: Sexual assault has become one of the forefront issues of our day. There has been an increasing rate of sexual assaults in our society and specifically on college campuses. 2.Here s why this problem is really a problem: According to the national sexual violence resource center, one in 5 women will be sexually assaulted at some point in their lives. • 4. Color Symbolism In The Great Gatsby By F. Scott Fitzgerald The Great Gatsby The Great Gatsby is one of the greatest novels ever written. It is best remembered and spoken about for it s color symbolism. The main reason to why color symbolism is a studied topic in this novel is because the writer was also a painter. F.Scott Fitzgerald uses the colors gray, blue and yellow to symbolize hopelessness, loneliness, and new money throughout the novel. Fitzgerald uses the color gray to give the reader a darkened negative visual of what was occurring in the novel. Occasionally a line of gray cars crawls along an invisible track, gives out a ghastly creak, and comes to rest... . In this passage, the color gray in the novel leaves the reader with a dark and empty vibe and visual throughout the novel. Nick is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Positive And Negative Impacts Of Social Media Over 60% of 13 to 17 year olds have at least one profile on social media, with many spending more than two hours a day on social networking sites. Social media are computer mediated technologies that facilitate the creation and sharing of information, ideas, career interests, and other forms of expression via virtual networks and communities. Some of the most popular social media sites being Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and Tumblr. These sites have more than 100,000,000 users. So it brings up the question ; Is social media ok? Observers have noted a range of positive and negative impacts of social media use. Although it can be addictive and serves as an outlet for a hybrid bully that can hide behind a screen, which is often referenced as Cyber bullying, it also forms an inevitable platform for people to connect to the world. While social media can be harmful it is more handy than destructive. It is a way to spread awareness, express oneself, provide comical relief and help one to meet others. Social media is the easiest way to spread awareness. For example, in 2014 it seemed that pro athletes all the way to your local barber were dumping buckets of ice cold water over their bodies to show support for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis patients. Over the 2 months that people were participating in the ALS challenge it raised 115 million dollars. Due to Anthony Senerchia getting his story out to the internet it allowed the web to do its thing and notify billions of people and use all the money that was made thanks to social media to conduct research. Social 2 media allows one sad story to be spread by reposting the story from just one account and then to be shared to hundreds of other people s timeline. In order to be deemed trending at least 1k shares need to be reposted. After this is accomplished leave it all to a touch of a button for the story to spread to even the most remote places in the world. Even if a person doesn t directly follow someone that reposted it will be brought to their attention through their peers likes, retweets, etc. One important aspect of life is knowing who you are. A way to figure it out or realize what you are into is by looking at what profiles you are following. Many people are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Abolition Of The Federal Government In the late 1940s and 1950s, Congress held hearings specifically for the abolishment of un American actions in all aspects of the country; the public sector primarily. Varying levels of government, universities, and Hollywood were subject to investigation due to alleged communist influence; it was a communist themed witch hunt aptly named the Red Scare . This sense of fear and insecurity caused Americans to reevaluate daily interactions and beliefs with one another. The House of Un American Activities Committee (HUAC), an investigative committee of the U.S. House of Representatives was head of these operations. This led to U.S. global economic domination. This Consumer culture demonstrated the superiority of the American way of life to communism and virtually redefined the nation s historic mission to extend freedom to other countries (Foner 878). Due to rising incomes and a rapid increase in consumer spending, items that were previously deemed luxuries for the wealthy were now necessities and common in middle class households. • 12. Reflection Of The Incredibles The Incredibles is more than a hero s journey; it also explores the ties between faith and family. Although watching this movie does not reveal this fact immediately, we can understand this film through a deep understanding and knowledge of Ostwalt s theory in his journal, Religion Popular Movies. To begin, Ostwalt outlines three categories in which films can fall into: theological, mythological and ideological. These three categories are intrinsic in nature making sense semantically but Ostwalt delves deeper into the meanings in his journal and describes instances in which viewers can relate. The Incredibles, in this case, falls under a mythological and critical lens. With this information, we can start to uncover the easter eggs that Brad Bird, the director of The Incredibles, has left for us. This film teaches us the importance of recognizing and accepting the gifts that God has given us. The characters experience growth only when they have wholeheartedly embraced the gifts that have been given to them. Once they fully accept and understand their gifts, we see them flourish. Imagine living in a time when superheroes are shunned for saving people; when helping people is a taboo. A time when superheroes like Mr. Incredible and Frozone are subjected to listening to police scanners in the night, like vigilantes, when they were originally admired by many for their kind and selfless acts; this is the setting of Pixar s The Incredibles. J.D.B Stillman, aboard the ship Plymouth, November 1850 (Stewart, 1995) There is no doubt that humans have always been intrigued with the majestic beauty of the large giants found in all of the world s oceans. Whales and people have had a long history together, marked by many turns of events. Long ago, native tribes, from many places in the world, depended largely on whales for protein in their diets. The Change in Whaling What exactly happened in the whaling industry that had such a detrimental effect on the whale populations? In the nineteenth century, commercial whalers began using whole fleets to hunt whales, with each ship given a specific role. The largest ship, found at the center of the fleet, was the factory ship. At the heart of these ships are many tanks. Christopher Ash worked as chief chemist on the factory ship Balaena, and in his book Whaler s Eye, comments on the massive tanks found in these ships. Balaena really is a tanker, and almost all of her hull...is subdivided into thirty six tanks. It is rather like an egg crate with nine rows, each of four tanks extending across the ship, and each tank able to take some five hundred tons of fuel or Diesel oil, which will be replaced after cleaning by whale or sperm oil, or perhaps meat meal; sometimes they must be filled with sea water as ballast. These tanks are impressively large, being well over thirty feet deep; so that when standing on the bottom and looking up to the one small square of light far above, it is difficult to believe that we can produce enough oil to fill the whole of that volume in twenty hours (Ash, 1962, p.19). Underneath the tanks is the bottom of the boat. Above the tanks is the tank deck. This holds the centrifuges used to separate oil and glue water, as well as driers and bagging machines ... Black Stereotypes In Advertising Images of black icons and non white racial groups have always been used in advertising in the United States, even prior to the Great Migration, in which millions of African Americans moved from the South to the North. The archetypes used in these various advertisements have went on to become cultural icons, and a prominent example of that is Aunt Jemima, the first black character ever used as trademark for a consumer good. The use of these images is part of the minstrelsy impulse prevalent in American culture, which combined with the progress of mass consumerism and advertising pushed stereotyped images of minorities into American popular culture. This combination of mass consumerism and minstrelsy was prominently displayed in the 1893 Chicago World Fair. There is a common misconception that companies used images of minorities as they were marketing these products to that demographic, and while that may be the case in later use of black imagery in advertising, at the beginning, advertising was mainly targeted at the white middle class. It was perceived at the beginning that only white peoplehad the economic power to purchase various consumer goods, safe for a few black middle class people (Corey, Lecture). Aside from black people, other ethnic minorities were also used to promote different products, such as the use of Chinese American images to sell laundry products, which follows the stereotypethat most, if not all Chinese people worked as launderers (Corey, Lecture). ... As insider holdings increase beyond 25 per cent, the market value of the firms again increases. They argue their results are evidence of managerial entrenchment. While lower and higher levels of insider holdings support the notion that insider holdings lead to lower agency costs, the middle level of ownership is a range over which managerial control seems to be linked with a significantly lower market price of equity. The Morck et al. (1988) non linearity results may be sample and/or time dependent. However, Wruck (1989) confirms the range of entrenchment reported by Morck et al. Evaluation Of A Safety Management System Essay AVN 1106 Major Assignment Lincoln Wilkins U1086146 Date of Submission 16/09/2016 Abstract: With the expectation from CASA for newly established flight operations to design and implement a Safety Management System (SMS) the task has been set to do so for an airline with 12 regional aircraft and 200 employees. The aim of an SMS is to monitor and manage the overall safety operations that occur within an airline. The use of an SMS has proven extremely successful as it solidifies the communication between operators and management. An SMS consists of four (4) main components: Safety assurance; Safety risk management; safety promotion; and safety policy. Each of these components plays a major role in ensuring the safe operation of an airline. Introduction: With the aviation industry exponentially expanding it is essential to ensure that those safety standards which are in place are working effectively. It is primarily the responsibility of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to ensure that his or her airline is not only profitable but is also safe. The balance between production and protection is a fine line and as such there need to be systems in place to ensure production is not outweighing protection. Airlines in the developed world endeavour to not only meet, but to exceed the expectations of the standards set by regulatory bodies within the aviation industry. This can be done through the implementation of an SMS as well as by revising and enhancing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is easy to write off Wilde s utilization of the device as ironic, as the aphorisms used in the play demonstrate values that are diametrically opposed to those we recognize in the real world; however, due to the aforementioned fact that aphorisms are typically meant to point out a universal truth, it can be argued that Wilde s use of the device is quite proper in the sense that the specific universe created in the work just happens to be different ... Where a Christian ethic once encouraged an equality of opportunity, which necessarily produces unequal results, resentiment desires an equality of results. So the gap between the rich and the poor is seen as an evil in itself, and poverty is redefined from the lack of food or other necessities to the lack of an affluent lifestyle. When combined with materialism, which implies that wealth can be the only measure for quality of life, resentiment leads to all sorts of redistributive policies: welfare, government induced inflation, credit assistance, corporate bailouts, trade regulations, etc. However, these policies are deceptive, since they never actually help the poor, but instead make them dependent, while at the same time enriching the people in charge of the redistribution. They have become a legal form of stealing and one in which the majority of people in Western society gladly participate. Idols of nature include the material and the immaterial. Materialism claims that matter is all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Muscular Dystrophy Case Study Duchenne s Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is caused by recessive mutations in the dystrophin gene on the X chromosome affecting 1 in every 3,500 5,000 male births. As shown in Fig. 1, dystrophin protein anchors the actin cytoskeleton to the extracellular matrix, playing critical roles in stabilizing and protecting the musclefibers against strain related injuries. As outlined in Fig. 2, dystrophin mutations lead to myocyte fragility and membrane damages with repeated contractions, resulting in increased cell permeability. Consequently, calcium ions diffuse into the myocytes, activating calcium dependent proteases to cause further cell necrosis. , Additionally, creatine kinase (CK), a myocyte enzyme that stores energy for contraction, leaks out... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Treatments are aimed to control symptoms, preserve muscle functions and improve quality of life. Prednisone is a type of commonly prescribed corticosteroid known for its anti inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties through direct gene expression regulations. The precise mechanism by which prednisone increases muscle strength in DMD patients is unknown, but hypothesises have been made based on its modulatory effects in the myocyte inflammation, degeneration and regeneration pathways following damage. As illustrated in Fig. 3, under healthy physiology condition, myocyte damage stimulates signaling pathways that promotes both degeneration and regeneration of the damaged tissue to promote healing. The extend of muscle healing is dependent on the balance between the two processes. As outlined in Fig. 4, initial myocyte damage activates inflammatory cells such as neutrophils and macrophages to inflict further necrosis through the release of free radicals and proteases. The damaged myocytes are then removed via phagocytosis to provide space for healthy tissue regeneration. The regeneration process is initiated through the activation of myocyte precursor cells called satellite cells to differentiate and fuse at the site of damage. However the proliferating abilities of satellite cells are reduced in DMD patients due to the absence of dystrophin proteins, resulting in impaired muscle regeneration capacities. As a result, inflammation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This usage of IP addresses in mobile would increase the need for implementation of IPv6 as the new standard to replace IPv4 and increase the number of available addresses. However IP based mobile isn t perfect and has its own host of problems and those will be discussed as well later as well as possible fixes in short and long term to these problems. The main need to implement mobile IP is the fact that it can support more users and keep those users closer to the internet, meaning that the internet is integrated into the system.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This can be a problem as more devices connect to and use a network the more data they use and can cause a network to become congested. A solution to reduce congestion is to use many small wireless receivers within the range of a large tower to spread out the devices upon smaller more confined networks when within cities and high density areas. And simply using long range low capacity towers when in the country side and places where fewer devices will be on a network at any given time, this is a combination of macro cells and micro cells to ensure network stability. At layer 2 comes the need to differentiate between devices on the network and needs a standard to work in place usually used at layer 2 in IP based communications over the internet is Ethernet II and uses MAC addresses differentiating between devices by using a hexadecimal format. This is done by burning a unique ID into a network card by a manufacturer, however rather than the normal Wi Fi a better option for long range communications is WiMAX. • 34. Characteristics Of Revolutionary In The Revolution Of The... The American Revolution was, in fact, revolutionary. Revolutionary means to work against. So, in this case, there were many instances which made the American Revolution revolutionary. For example, Benjamin Franklin wrote the quote, Join or Die, in 1754. This quote was intended to, urge the Thirteen colonies to unite behind England in its struggle against the French and Native American forces during the French and Indian war. This means that he was allies with the British. So, him and the British were working together to work against the French. But, unfortunately that alliance did not last very long because in 1775 the Battle of Bunker Hill was fought between the British and the Americans. While the British ended up being victors of the battle, the only thing they gained was a confidence boost. Also, in 1775 76 Thomas Paine wrote Common Sense to advocate independence from Great Britain to people in the Thirteen colonies. While you might think the French and Indian war was fought between the French and the Indians it was actually fought between the French and the British while the Indians were divided between the two. During the American Revolution there were two groups of people. Loyalists and Patriots. Loyalists were the people who stood by the British during the American Revolution. The Loyalists, wanted to pursue peaceful forms of protest because they believed that violence would give rise to mob rule or tyranny. They also believed that independence would mean the ... Not getting paid until they go through school is unfair and most athletes leave school early without a degree and no knowledge of how to manage their money when they get it. Although college athletes do get money from scholarships, they should be able to get paid because their sport is their job and when they leave college, they would have something more than just a degree. The current electric vehicle fleet is less than 1% of the light passenger fleet, which consists mainly of petrol and diesel vehicles (Ministry of Transport (MoT), 2016). Thus, on average, each LPV used: 10402.69 km/LPV9.59 L(petrol)/100km =997.91 L(petrol)/LPV Hence, the total petrol consumed by 20% of vehicles in the LPF is: 997.91 L(petrol)/LPV603,624 LPV=602.36 million L(petrol) Consequently, this means that electric vehicles will save about 600 million litres per year if they replaced 20% of the LPF. She received her famous diary on her 13th birthday, the same day of her very first diary entry (Frank 1). It was wartime 1942 in Amsterdam and Adolf Hitler was at his height of power (Byers 36). Hitler had given Germany the scapegoat they had been looking for: the Jews. World War II was raging across Europe, making its way toward changing the life of Anne Frank. The Nazis had taken much of Europe and there was barely a place the Jews could go without fear of being persecuted. The Nazi special forces, the SS Army, had taken away many of the Jewish families in Amsterdam and were offering a cash reward to anyone who turned in a Jew. The Nazis isolated the Jews from daily life: They only allowed the Jews to walk, gave them a curfew, banned them from swimming and going to the movies, and made them wear a yellow star so they could quickly be identified. Hitler fanned the flame of an age old prejudice until it exploded into a violent hatred (Lewis 4). The icing on the cake for the Jews was when Hitler started ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Early Church Missionaries Much can be learned from early church missionaries. Two such missionaries were Ninian (360 432) and Patrick (389 461). Ninian, the apostle of Scotland, was trained in Rome, but was British.1 While in France, Ninian, an apostle of Scotland, was introduced to the idea that a monk should be a missionary. 2 He established Christianitywith the people group known as the Southern Picts.3 The apostle of Ireland, Patrick, was brought up in northwest England by a Christian family. When he was young he was captured by pirates and sold in Ireland, where he managed to escape to Gaul and his journey to monasticism began. Upon learning monasticism, he returned to Ireland as a missionary, but he was not the first missionary to the Irish. However,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 53. Gangsta Culture And Cultural Resistance For the longest time art has been a tool for expressing one s self, passion, anger, pain, grief, or even resistance. Cultural resistance, as Stephen Duncombe claims, can provide a sort of free space for developing ideas and practices (S. Duncombe 5). There have been multiple theorists trying to identify what depicts a subcultural group as culturally resistant. Cultural resistance can take different forms and can be expressed via different media depending on the subcultural group. Some theorists also identify cultural resistance as a form of political resistance (p. 6). The Gangsta Culture is a widely known subcultural group that developed in the late 20th century in the wild, wild west, and it can be argued that the subculture is highly... • 54. How Organizations Can Move Beyond The First Steps Of... ABSTRACT Change is best carried through by the many, not by just the hero leader. Ten challenges to the initiation and sustaining of change are elaborated, illustrated by a rich range of case studies and supported by a practical checklist. We all know that change and innovation are of the essence for organisations today and in future. The bad news, according to Peter Senge, is that most change initiatives fail. The good news is that Senge and his co authors think they know why and what to do about it. Senge is the guru of the learning organisation whose previous book The Fifth Discipline was hailed as a groundbreaking book about organisational transformation. Senge and his co authors, all of them change experts, call this new book a Fifth Discipline resource . The aim of the book is to show how organisations can move beyond the first steps of corporate change and sustain the momentum. The problems that cause the failure of change projects cannot be solved by more expert advice, better consultants or more committed managers, say Senge and co. They stem from our most basic ways of thinking. Unless these change, new initiatives will only produce the same unproductive types of action. The fundamental problem is that most change initiatives deal only with growth processes and not with the limiting processes. We need to change our way of thinking so that we can understand the forces that impede progress and develop strategies for dealing with them. One of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. How Does Phonics Develop Early Reading and How Should... How does phonics develop early reading and how should phonics be taught? The most important skill any child can leave primary school with is the ability to read independently and effectively for meaning. (DFE National Literacy Strategy) Reading has become an integral part of our lives; within the world we live in today we rely heavily on information and environmental text. It is important that from an early age Children are immersed in books everyday. With parents reading short stories to there children daily it will be inevitable that those children will stand a better chance at becoming stronger fluent readers. They can also use this technique to pull apart those sounds that would help with spelling of words. For example hat = h a t. (Rowlingson) Whereas Analytical phonics is the complete opposite as they will start with a whole word and analyse a part of it. In English there are 44 sounds (Phonemes) which are written using 26 letters of the alphabet (Browne 2011, p27) There are many more Graphemes than Phonemes with most phonemes being represented by a number of different graphemes. Synthetic phonics can be taught in many ways. The Primary Framework for Literacy (DfES, 2006a) gives a progressive plan on how to teach phonics. I found during my time with Foundation year 2 s the teacher I was working with concentrated on implementing four new letters every week as well as recapping what they had learnt from the previous week. I asked her if it worked well and she certainly seemed to think so. Before she would be doing a new letter a day, although this would allow her to teach at a good pace she noticed the children were struggling to remember all the letters and sounds they would learn. Because of this she had to revise the way she was teaching the phonics to go at a pace the children were comfortable with. She revised her plan so that every day her children would recap over the letters they had previously been taught. I noticed that however much planning was in place that it was always best to go by how the children would cope and over time you will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. Example Of Knowledge Argument INTRODUCTION OF THE THESIS According to Currie (2015), philosophy is the activity of searching for a reflective understanding of ourselves and also to know about the natural and social worlds we live in. As we know, philosophy is also related to the phrase thinking about thinking. We can get to know what is actually happening in this world and we also will solve some of the confusions that we face in life. Knowledge is the fact and information of knowing something that through some experiences. In addition, argument is the process of arguing or disagreeing about a statement that has discussed. For example, we might argue about the statement that we have the opposite view from the others so we start to make up some proves to solve this matter. In this assignment, we will discuss about the knowledge argument. From a thesis that we have read, we could identify its position stated by Frank Jackson. Knowledge argument stands against physicalism which is proposed by Frank Jackson. Physicalism or materialism is distinguished with phenomenal consciousness of experiences that depicts mind is subjective and implies physicality. Frank Jackson believes that the physical truth seen is not always the whole truth. There is also phenomenal truths learnt through the things we see where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thomas Nagel s What is it Like to be a Bat? has appeared in recent writing, which brings the meaning of human need to understand how bats use the sonar system to determine its direction (Alter, n.d.). Although every living things are created by nature, which is abstract.
