The Pros And Cons Of Overconfidence Effect
1. Introduction
According to Gervais Goldstein (2007) psychological research has repeatedly shown that persons are
inclined to be overconfident. Alpert and Raiffa (1982), described firstly a phenomenon which they
called overconfidence effect. It describes the bias in which a person s confidence in his or her
judgments is greater than the accuracy of those judgments. The common expectation is that
misestimation leads to disadvantages. In contrast, Gervais Goldstein (2007) examined the effects of
this bias in a business context and modeled that under explicit circumstances in a firm overconfident
agents can lead to a Pareto improvement, i.e. everyone, including the firm, the biased agent, and the
unbiased agent, are better off, if an agent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even taking into account that some of theses effects result out of incentives from directly profiting
individuals, i.e., systematic underestimation to gain orders, the phenomenon appears to be
conspicuous. Berlin Airport BER, Elbphilharmonie, Stuttgart 21, and Jade Weser Port are famous
examples for overconfident estimation of construction times and costs in Germany according to
Klaiber (2015). This can be expanded to projects and products, e.g., the Airbus A380 s production
problems and at the same time its below expectation market demand corresponding to Wall

Quality Data Characteristics
Discuss some characteristics of quality data.
Precisely some of the characteristics are generally based on the main levels of quality assurance such
as with accuracy, accessibility, comprehensiveness, consistency.
Data accuracy means that it must be correct at all time, error free.
Data accessibility means should be easy to get a hold of at all time.
Data comprehensiveness means that all data must be updated and completed.
Data consistency means that all information within the document must be a reliable source of data.
Discuss how gaps (or breaches) are predicted and handled.
Most organizations with company data files must predict that it is possible that someone would

The At The Edge Of The Castle Training Field Essay
At the edge of the castle training field, bathed by the rays of a waning autumn sun, Percival reached
for Fleur s hand as they waited for the knighting ceremony to begin. Deena and Ida, their girls, sat in
the grass, vibrating with excitement. Banon lay down between them, basking in the glory of belly
rubs, as the dog always did. It seemed impossible that the girls were ten and Banon was almost eleven.
Hadn t they come into Percival and Fleur s life only yesterday?
A cool afternoon breeze kissed Percival s face, and with that, he gazed at the sparse clouds above and
recalled the past. He was almost thirty three, and somehow, the past seemed closer than ever.
So much had happened during the past decade.
When Deena and Ida turned one, Percival and Gwaine, on a mission in Ismere, had been captured and
forced into slavery by Morgana. That was a dark and frightening time for Percival and Gwaine, yet
eventually, Merlin and King Arthur rescued them. Percival recalled his homecoming, when Fleur
carrying the twins in her arms Rion, and Banon charged from the castle and ran to him, sobbing with
joy. Rion all but pulled Percival from his horse, and Percival and his family stood outside in the
downpour, reunited and grateful. He had never felt more loved than in that moment.
Further, Arthur had managed to negotiate peace with King Odin, and Camelot and Cornwall had not
warred in years.
Regardless, there had been more dark times.

Was Canada An Independent Country
Canada was not always an independent country but through many important historical events, Canada
was able to become the independent country that it is now. Canada had started off as one of the many
colonies of Great Britain, and slowly proved to the world that they weren t just a colony, but much
more. Overtime, canadians were gaining more and more power and were being recognized as
formidable by others due to the key events that had happened throughout history. Some of the key
events that I am going to talk about are The Battle of Vimy Ridge, The Statute of Westminster, NATO,
The Nuclear Debate, as well as NAFTA.
The battle of Vimy Ridge and the Statute of Westminster were the first steps to Canada s road to
independence and a major turning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Canada, Mexico and the United States were all involved in NAFTA, the North American Free Trade
Agreement. This agreement had really helped improve Canada s economy and raised the standards of
living in Canada. NAFTA had also proved itself to be a solid foundation to building Canada s
prosperity which is good for Canada s independence as well (North, 1). After the free trade agreement,
there were many positive effects in the Canadian economy. John F. Kerry, an American politician had
once said, NAFTA recognizes the reality of today s economy globalization and technology. (John, 1)
This agreement states that Canada is helping in globalizing the economy of not only America but
Canada and Mexico as well. In this case, the agreement is improving and benefiting the Canadian
economy very well which is great for Canada s independence. It shows that Canada can make its own
decisions with other countries to benefit their own country in many ways economic wise as well as
independence wise. This also shows that although Canada and America are important trading partners,
it doesn t necessarily mean that one country is a step behind the other. It means that if they work
together, they can benefit each other and help improve one another s growth as

Earned Income Tax Case Study
For many years low income families have been stigmatized due programs destined to provide welfare.
Most of the families that are in need of economic support undergo a scrutinized agenda, which most of
the time, question by question undresses recipients by stripping their dignity. In my childhood we used
something similar to food stamps. We were a family of 12 members, parents and 10 children. I
remembered my mother crying full of anger and frustration when the government sent a letter saying:
Your case is under revision. Even if revision looked like a positive reason (it could mean an increase
of benefits), this meant checks would be delayed at least for two months... Two studies are present in

The rate of participants is high compared with other income support programs. Federal and State
governments are trying to encourage feedback from recipient programs and involvement of qualified
participants. According to Beecroft (2012), the Virginia s IRS has initiated a campaign to improve
outreach to individuals who can benefit from those services. Same program has been implemented to
reach families located in New York and California. The Virginia government contracted a private
agency to prepare mailing notices and perform phone calls to instruct qualified candidates to use EITC
benefits. This study makes two main contributions to existing research by providing: rigorous
evidence on the impacts of low cost outreach for the EITC, including a simple cost benefit analysis;
and more recent estimates of EITC take up rates for recipients of public assistance, based on accurate
data sources. This study also uses large sample sizes even though they are only for Virginia (a starting
population of close to 500,000 households, including 225,000 EITC eligible households) (Beecroft

The question of how hypnosis plays a role in helping in the different aspects of life is a question that is

religion. Hypnosis can even play a large role when it comes to surgery and anesthesiology and the
patient s reaction to the procedure. Cognitive behavioural therapy is connected to hypnosis in more
ways than one. The study of hypnotic relaxation therapy has just become popular in the past few years

Photography At The Crossroads Berenice Abbott Summary
In her essay Photography at the Crossroads, Berenice Abbott advocates for the return of documentary
photography at a time when commercial and fictitious approaches were dominating. Photography is
the most creative medium available to capture the spontaneity of real life, and the essence of
photographic art is realism (Abbott, 179). In her summary of photography s development, Abbott
describes the early stages as truly spectacular and commended the sound American tradition of realism
for example, portraiture and post war geological documentation (180). She denounces the
commercialization of photography the use of props, constructed backdrops and retouching to create
ostentatious painting like photographs. Honest documentation was abandoned for sentimental painting
like images by photographers such as Henry Peach Robinson (Abbott, 181). ... Show more content on

Abbott finds that extensive post processing often inhibits the creativity of photographers (182).
Instead, creativity in photography lies in the selection of significant content, which differs between
photographers (Abbott, 183). A good photograph should be a strong statement with direct connection
to reality; otherwise it will be worthless regardless of its artistic merits. Thus photographers should
strive to develop a keen perspective to pick relevant content. Good photographs are also good
documents, as evidenced by earlier works that have survived (Abbott, 184). Hence Abbott concludes
that if one turns in the right direction and chooses to pursue documentary photography, he only needs
three things good content, sufficient skills and a little imagination to become a great photographer

Using Islamic Banks, Commercial Banks And Dual Banks
We conduct a raft of additional tests to ensure the robustness of our findings. First, our sample consists
of Islamic banks, commercial banks and dual banks, thus to ascertain how MLG work among the three
categories, we re run equation (1) by separating the sample to three sub samples: Islamic banks (IBs);
commercial banks (CBs); and dual banks (DBs). The results reported in models 2, 3, 4 in Table 6 and
models 11, 12 and 13 in Table 7 respectively. The results are basically the same with slight different in
the coefficients significant. Nevertheless there is negative impact of GOWN on risk disclosure

Third, we test the robustness of our results by re regressing equation (1) and equation (2) using
weighted RDI as alternative risk disclosure index. The results reported in Table 7 are mostly the same
with those results reported in Table 6 with slight different in the coefficients significant, therefore
these findings indicates that our results are robust whether RDI is un weighted or weighted. Finally,
and to test potential endogeneity problems which have been debated to be a common problem in CG

Isaiah Vs Jeremiah
The prophets Jeremiah and Isaiah are both prophets of the Lord. While both of them preached the true
word of God to Gods people they both did it in different ways.
The first verse of the Book of Isaiah states that Isaiah prophesied during the reigns of Uzziah, Jotham,
Ahaz and Hezekiah, the kings of Judah. Uzziah s reign was 52, and Isaiah must have begun his
ministry a few years before Uzziah s death. Isaiah lived until the fourteenth year of Hezekiah s reign,
and may have been contemporary for some years with Manasseh. Thus Isaiah may have prophesied
for as long as 64 years. Isaiah had two sons She ar Ya shuv, meaning A remnant shall return and Maher
Shalal Hash Baz, meaning, Spoil quickly, plunder speedily.
Jeremiah was the son of Hilkiah, a Jewish priest from the Benjamite village of Anathoth. Jeremiah s
ministry was started in the thirteenth year of Josiah, king of Judah and lasted until after the fall of

This is mainly due to the time period that Isaiah preached in. During Isaiah s ministry it was a time of
reformation. A large portion of the time he spent preaching Hezekiah was the king and he feared God
and maintained the temple. This meant that when the people and king heard the word of Isaiah they
were happy and praised God. Even when Isaiah told Hezekiah that because of his pride and showing
off his armory to the ambassadors of Babylon that the nation of Judah would be taken into captivity
and made their servants he rejoiced and praised God for this humbling.
During Jeramiah s preach he encountered false prophets. Jeramiah brought the truth saying that the
people of Israel would be destroyed if they did not repent. The false prophets where telling them that
the kingdom of Judah would not be taken captive. Jeramiah then made a picture. He was to take a

My Story About My Trainer Essay
Just take a few deep breaths and relax , says my trainer as I feel beads of sweat running down my
forehead. My whole body is numb and my mind is racing while I try and recall everything I had

I fell in love with boxing the moment I stepped into the gym about two years ago. The first thing I saw

ground. The loud boom of his body hitting the canvas was like nothing I had ever seen before. I could

But regardless of which side one takes in the ongoing battle, it is difficult to deny that the electronic

The very concept of impartiality has been warped in recent years by the saturation coverage provided
by the electronic media; the public is bombarded with prejudicial information which makes it
increasingly difficult for high profile defendants to receive anything resembling a fair trial. Within the
courthouse, the jury is made conscious of the scrutiny which will fall upon its ultimate decision and is
thus held hostage by an accountability to the community, 3 while judges are forced to preside over
issues in media coverage as well as issues of trial law. Meanwhile lawyers are compelled to try their
cases in the court of public opinion just as vigorously as they must try them in the courtroom.
And what of the defendant, kept under the constant and watchful eye of a camera trained to capture

Shakespeare s political works depicting the rise and fall of King Richard II. Richard became king of
England as a boy at 10 years of age, although his advisors made most of the political decisions of the
kingdom until he matured. During this maturation period, Richard was more interested in learning
about aesthetic things in life rather than things more responsible to the monarch. He had very little
experience and talent in the areas of military tactics and his decisions relating to the monarch seemed
arbitrary. These traits that Richard displayed were not befitting to a king and a man who was suppose

In addition to banishment, Henry was also unfairly taken of his families wealth, land, and title, from
which he was the rightful heir. Henry contrasted Richard in many ways, in that he was honest, and
very practical. Furthermore, Henry was very reluctant to assume the role of future King, eventually
accepting after urging and support from the other nobles. While Richard left England to oversee the
progress of his foreign war, Henry and the other nobles began plans to take Richard s kingdom. This
was a crucial mistake on Richard s part. By not taking care of issues on the domestic front, Richard s
followers and soldiers grew increasingly weary of his ability to lead and be an effective king,
eventually siding with Henry. Henry proceeded to capture Bristol Castle, a stronghold of Richard s
and began his plans on being ordained future king. Upon Richard s return to England, he learns of the
events that had transpired in his absence. At first his own arrogance allows him to believe that since it
is his God given right to rule as King, he will be protected. But then just as quickly, Richard s
arrogance turns into despair upon the realization that Henry has gained support of the nobles and the
people of England. Henry and Richard finally meet at Ramparts Castle leading to the climax of the
play. Henry demands retribution for the allocation of his families possessions and

Colonialism In Teresia
What is colonialism? Colonialism is occupying one s land with or without the permission of the
natives of the land and later on occupying it with settlers and utilizing it economically.
Colonialism began in 1500s by European nations such as France, Portugal, England, and Spain.
European nations began to colonize through Americas, India, Middle East, and South East Asia.
Part of the logic behind colonialism was to modernize the colonized countries. Various
European nations had also control over the south pacific islands. The first Oceania colonies were
Australia and New Zealand. Soon after, French seized French Polynesia and New Caledonia.
Writers such Kathy Jetnil Kijiner, Teresia Teaiwa, and Dina El Dessouky have spoken about the harsh
reality of colonialism in south pacific. Kathy Jentil Kijiner is a Marshall Islander poet and spoken
word artist. Kathy has spoken against the environmental injustice in the Marshall islands, she has
spoken out against the nuclear testing in her home islands through her poems. Teresia

Comparing Tom Stoppard s Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are...
We as individuals most certainly believe that we have the ability to choose whatever we desire. It is in
our power to decide between good and bad.We as human beings are more fortunate than other species
with this ability. There are no obligations in our decisions, it is entirely up to us.Philosophers and
psychologist call this ability, Free Will.
On the other hand, most humans understand the fact that everything happens for a reason, every action
has a reaction and the world runs on cause and effect. The leaf on the tree falls because the wind
blow. This philosophical position [1] is called Determinism.
A great example of these two features in human lives are amazingly shown in Tom Stoppard s play

But not working is also a decision we make which has consequences.
Fatalism can also be seen in the character Claudius, the new king of Denmark, Hamlet s uncle who
killed his own brother.
Mortality is of course in everyone s fate but the way you die is what differs you from others. It is
inking s fate to be killed by Hamlet. The ghost of his brother gives the mission to Hamlet and when he
realizes that Hamlet has come for him, he decides to send Hamlet to England, where he will be
executed but since fatalism is much stronger than that Hamlet will not die in England and he will

The king tries much time to kill Hamlet, he turned his friends against him, killed his father, later on,
kills his mother as well but nothing will change his fate, every decision he makes is another step

How Is Hate Different From Each Other
Humans have always been able to express a variety of emotions, whether its happiness, sadness,
empathy, etc. Yet, one of the most complicated feelings we are capable of expressing is hatred. The
reason why is because there are so many different levels of hate that one can go through, depending on
the relationship that they have with that person and why they are angry. For instance, the hate that one
feels for a stranger is very different from the hate they feel toward someone they know or care about.
This is depicted in William Blake s A Poison Tree and Carolyn Kizer s Bitch , where one of the poems
portrays the difference between the feelings of hatred one has for a close friend compared to that of a
foe, and the other describes the hate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For this reason, when one is angry with a friend, and they confess, it automatically melts into love and
friendship. However, when one is angry with an enemy, they bury their anger as it continues to grow,
because it is never expressed. According to A Poison Tree, when one buries their anger rather than
acknowledging it, that anger turns into a seed that will eventually sprout into hatred. The seed is then
nourished by the negativity of the angry person, allowing their wrath to flourish into a mighty force or
tree that could potentially destroy both parties. It is implied by the title that the tree is poison, telling
the reader that by ignoring or suppressing their anger, they are also poisoned. As a result, the tree
...grew day and night [until] it bore an apple bright, hinting at some of the destructive consequences
that can result when one cultivates their anger (9 10). For instance, the foreboding tone of the final
line; is the speaker s delight at the foe outstretched beneath the tree, which offers a warning about
what can happen when one suppresses their anger (16). Therefore, by ignoring or denying ones
feelings, they can become destructive, hostile, and even

Tea Chromatography
Introduction
In this lab session, physical transformations were used to separate caffeine content from tea and
separate components by chromatography. The caffeine content was determined by extracting it from
the tea solution by adding sodium carbonate and dichloromethane into the tea and then and then
evaporating the solvent, using a hot plate. By weighing the empty beaker and the beaker after the
solvent has been evaporated on a top loading scale, the mass of caffeine was calculated. In the second
experiment, paper chromatography was used to separate the dyes in colored markers. The purpose of
this experiment is to observe how chromatography can be used to separate mixtures of chemical
substances. Chromatography serves mainly as a tool for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Discussion
By calculation, the amount of caffeine contained within 100 mL of the tea solution is approximately
26.8 mg. This data may be imprecise due to the possible errors during the extraction of caffeine from
the tea. Errors could have been made during phase separation and how vigorously or gentle the
mixture was shook. Also, errors could have been made during the filtration process and not separating
enough of the tea mixture from the dichloromethane, thus causing the calculation to be

Rousseau s The Social Contract
Our world has many components both physical and nonphysical that make it what it is, we have
certain powerful ideas like religion, which are very important and give us faith and some ethics and
other essential ideas, but religion itself isn t followed by everyone and in fact there are several
religions that don t connect at all. Unlike religion, laws and those who enforce them are universally
followed and for the most part, respected. We have rules and laws for huge crimes like murder or
terrorism and once those crimes are committed, these who commit them are often punished fairly but
on the contrary we have small punishments for breaking little and irrelevant rules. In The Social

Symbolism In Lord Of The Flies
William Golding uses many objects and characters in his story, Lord of the Flies , to develop and
symbolize certain aspects of his story. Lord of the Flies is a story that contrasts good with evil. The
story shows how a society without any set up regulations, develop and grow into a civilization. The
novel shows this by placing a group of young boys on an island with no parents. These pre adolescents
give us an inside look at our inner desires and inclinations. Throughout this story, William uses many
distinct symbols to move his story along and show some of the hidden messages. The author not only
places symbols throughout the book, but he makes the symbols dynamic. Throughout the Novel the
symbols are constantly changing. This brings a new perspective to the story. Through the changing
symbols we can gain a vast understanding of the plot and the sequence of the events in the story. With
the help of dynamic symbols such as the conch, fire, and the island, we can interrupt the islands
society in a new light.
Power was a main theme in The Lord of the Flies . It was mainly represented by the conch that Ralph
was always in possession of. In the beginning of the Novel, it was a representation of power. On the
island, if you wanted to speak, you had to be holding the conch. Meetings were also called by the
conch. The power of the conch shell is seen when all the...boys vote for Ralph because he blew the
conch. (Golding Chapter 1). When the island boys help an election for

keep up with the changing market, Indigo now aims to sell more non book merchandise. In 2006,
Indigo opened up new locations in Brossard, and Toronto. 2009, Indigo creates Kobo which is now a

Although there are no major changes to the operations of Indigo, it is evident that as a result of having
a negative net income indicates problems with the company operations. It becomes more worrying as
Indigo s revenue is declining as a result being unable to increase the amount of profit. They are still
unable to cut expenses down enough to maintain a positive net income.
Ratios The 8 ratios that are best used to evaluate indigo are current ratio, debt ratio, rate of return on
owner s equity, price earnings, inventory turnover, interest coverage ratio, dividend payout ratio, and
accounts receivables collection period.
Current Ratio Current ratio indicates a company s ability to pay off short term liabilities. Starting at
2012, the current ratio of Indigo was 1.98, very close to the desired ratio of 2. However since 2015,
the current ratio has declined by 0.09 to 1.89. This shows the company is not in as stable of a financial
standpoint as 2012, due to a lower ability to pay off short term liabilities. However, when compared to
the industrial and sector averages, 1.78 and 1.77 respectively, Indigo actually comes out as above
average. This suggests that despite, a lowered ability to return short term liabilities, Indigo is still very
capable at returning short term liabilities as a result of the nature of the industry and

The genesis of Edward Scissorhands came from a drawing by then teenaged director Tim Burton,
which reflected his feelings of isolation and being unable to communicate to people around him in
suburban Santa Clarita Valley, California. Burton stated that he was often alone and had trouble
retaining friendships. I get the feeling people just got this urge to want to leave me alone for some
reason, I don t know exactly why . During pre production of Beetlejuice, Burton hired Caroline
Thompson, then a young novelist, to write the Edward Scissorhands screenplay as a spec script.
Burton was impressed with her short novel, First Born, which was about an abortion that came back to
life . Burton felt First Born had the same psychological elements he wanted to showcase in Edward
Scissorhands.

a former baseball diamond which is now covered with prairie flowers joining two small, high quality
prairie remnants. Many of the classic prairie plants are found here, including grasses such as big
bluestem, switch grass and norther dropseed; stiff and Riddell s goldenrods; tall coreopsis, prairie

The main purpose of this visit was to cut and burn the buckthorn trees which have dominated the
grassland of this forest preserve. Similar tools like the other visits were used. The buckthorn trees in
this area were mostly young with population of high density in certain areas and the range of their
occupied area was from entrance of the forest up to one quarter of the area at the end of the savanna.
The buckthorns were cut and by aligning them on the fire place against the direction of the wind then
were burnt. During our visit we noticed that unlike the Bunker Hill Savanna forest preserve we were
first greeted by the grassland then the forest. In the middle of the savanna we saw a buck or a male
deer grazing on the grass found over there. In addition, we were able to observe a species of hawk that
was rarely seen close up. It had a golden brownish color and was sitting in the nearby tree observing
the activities that were done in the forest. After the required buckthorn trees were cut and burnt,
herbicide was sprayed on their remaining parts on the ground. Next seeds of some of the native plants
of that area were dispersed over the area where the buckthorn trees have previously occupied. The
purpose of dispersing the seeds of the area was to increase the population of the native species which

Summary of Canadian Confederation Essay
During the years before Confederation, there was much happening in the colonies that would
eventually unite to become the Dominion of Canada in 1867. The Fathers of Confederation were the
architects of the plan that resulted in the proposal that would bring the individual British American
colonies together under a Federalist system. There were three main conferences which were held and
to be included as a Father of Confederation. These conferences were The Charlottetown Conference
1864, The Quebec Conference 1864, and The London Conference 1866.

When it comes time to make an important decision, ones personal courage and self discipline are put
to the test and what has been instilled in them from the beginning of their lives is the determining
factor of how the situation will turn out. There are many things that can go wrong in the process of
passing family values on from generation to generation. If certain values are instilled in a particular
family since the dawn of its existence, and those values are not necessarily the best ones, it is more
than likely going to be considered a perfectly acceptable value and taught to members of that family to
come. When negative family values are taught, it is common that when someone applies those same
values to real world situations, they will encounter conflict among people and situations that they
come across. This is common with families that are prejudice, racist, sheltered, or just plain ignorant
to modern cultural standards. It is a very sad thing when incorrect or socially unacceptable values are
taught to the youth in a family. For the reason that, to a young and impressionable mind what is taught
to them is the only thing that they know and it is always considered right. It is not the youth s fault, or
the parents fault for that matter, it is just simply a matter of how a particular family or group of people
adapt and conform to contemporary socially acceptable customs. Sometimes, the teaching of family

Kristallnacht, also known as the Night of Broken Glass, was a night of organized violent assault on the
Jews on November 9, 1938. Although it appeared to be a spontaneous response to a Jewish teenager s
assassination of a German ambassador in Paris, this event was, in fact, a thoroughly organized attack
on the Jews. As the name of the incident suggests, two day long violent outbreak was detrimental. Not
only were Sturmabteilung set loose to ransacking Jewish stores and homes, civilians also participated
in the series of attacks against the Jews. Over 250 synagogues were targeted; they were destructed,
burned, and vandalized. Moreover, over 7,000 businesses were shattered. Plundered Jewish owned
properties were often redistributed to German citizens. During this massive coordinated attack,
approximately 100 Jews were killed, and approximately 30,000 Jews were sent to concentration
camps, such as Dachau, Buchenwald, and Sachsenhausen. Although brutally treated, the prisoners
were released if they could prove that they were able to emigrate. However, an estimate of 1,000 Jews
ended up dying. After Kristallnacht, Jews clearly became social outcasts; they were aggressively
dissimilated from the society, marginalized from economic interactions, and persecuted from political
activities. Anti Semitism rose

It describes the bias in which a person s confidence in his or her judgments is greater than the accuracy of those judgments. The common expectation is that misestimation leads to disadvantages. In contrast, Gervais Goldstein (2007) examined the effects of this bias in a business context and modeled that under explicit circumstances in a firm overconfident agents can lead to a Pareto improvement, i.e. everyone, including the firm, the biased agent, and the unbiased agent, are better off, if an agent ... In this case, the agreement is improving and benefiting the Canadian economy very well which is great for Canada s independence. It shows that Canada can make its own decisions with other countries to benefit their own country in many ways economic wise as well as independence wise. • 11. Photography At The Crossroads Berenice Abbott Summary In her essay Photography at the Crossroads, Berenice Abbott advocates for the return of documentary photography at a time when commercial and fictitious approaches were dominating. Photography is the most creative medium available to capture the spontaneity of real life, and the essence of photographic art is realism (Abbott, 179). In her summary of photography s development, Abbott describes the early stages as truly spectacular and commended the sound American tradition of realism for example, portraiture and post war geological documentation (180). She denounces the commercialization of photography the use of props, constructed backdrops and retouching to create ostentatious painting like photographs. Honest documentation was abandoned for sentimental painting like images by photographers such as Henry Peach Robinson (Abbott, 181). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead, creativity in photography lies in the selection of significant content, which differs between photographers (Abbott, 183). A good photograph should be a strong statement with direct connection to reality; otherwise it will be worthless regardless of its artistic merits. Thus photographers should strive to develop a keen perspective to pick relevant content. Good photographs are also good documents, as evidenced by earlier works that have survived (Abbott, 184). Hence Abbott concludes that if one turns in the right direction and chooses to pursue documentary photography, he only needs three things good content, sufficient skills and a little imagination to become a great photographer ... • 28. Symbolism In Lord Of The Flies William Golding uses many objects and characters in his story, Lord of the Flies , to develop and symbolize certain aspects of his story. Lord of the Flies is a story that contrasts good with evil. The story shows how a society without any set up regulations, develop and grow into a civilization. The novel shows this by placing a group of young boys on an island with no parents. These pre adolescents give us an inside look at our inner desires and inclinations. Throughout this story, William uses many distinct symbols to move his story along and show some of the hidden messages. The author not only places symbols throughout the book, but he makes the symbols dynamic. Throughout the Novel the symbols are constantly changing. This brings a new perspective to the story. Through the changing symbols we can gain a vast understanding of the plot and the sequence of the events in the story. With the help of dynamic symbols such as the conch, fire, and the island, we can interrupt the islands society in a new light. Power was a main theme in The Lord of the Flies . It was mainly represented by the conch that Ralph was always in possession of. In the beginning of the Novel, it was a representation of power. On the island, if you wanted to speak, you had to be holding the conch. Meetings were also called by the conch. The power of the conch shell is seen when all the...boys vote for Ralph because he blew the conch. (Golding Chapter 1). When the island boys help an election for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although there are no major changes to the operations of Indigo, it is evident that as a result of having a negative net income indicates problems with the company operations. It becomes more worrying as Indigo s revenue is declining as a result being unable to increase the amount of profit. They are still unable to cut expenses down enough to maintain a positive net income. Ratios The 8 ratios that are best used to evaluate indigo are current ratio, debt ratio, rate of return on owner s equity, price earnings, inventory turnover, interest coverage ratio, dividend payout ratio, and accounts receivables collection period. Current Ratio Current ratio indicates a company s ability to pay off short term liabilities. Starting at 2012, the current ratio of Indigo was 1.98, very close to the desired ratio of 2. However since 2015, the current ratio has declined by 0.09 to 1.89. This shows the company is not in as stable of a financial standpoint as 2012, due to a lower ability to pay off short term liabilities. However, when compared to the industrial and sector averages, 1.78 and 1.77 respectively, Indigo actually comes out as above average. This suggests that despite, a lowered ability to return short term liabilities, Indigo is still very capable at returning short term liabilities as a result of the nature of the industry and ... Similar tools like the other visits were used. The buckthorn trees in this area were mostly young with population of high density in certain areas and the range of their occupied area was from entrance of the forest up to one quarter of the area at the end of the savanna. The buckthorns were cut and by aligning them on the fire place against the direction of the wind then were burnt. During our visit we noticed that unlike the Bunker Hill Savanna forest preserve we were first greeted by the grassland then the forest. In the middle of the savanna we saw a buck or a male deer grazing on the grass found over there. In addition, we were able to observe a species of hawk that was rarely seen close up. It had a golden brownish color and was sitting in the nearby tree observing the activities that were done in the forest. After the required buckthorn trees were cut and burnt, herbicide was sprayed on their remaining parts on the ground. Next seeds of some of the native plants of that area were dispersed over the area where the buckthorn trees have previously occupied. The purpose of dispersing the seeds of the area was to increase the population of the native species which enable them to dominate the area and maintain the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When it comes time to make an important decision, ones personal courage and self discipline are put to the test and what has been instilled in them from the beginning of their lives is the determining factor of how the situation will turn out. There are many things that can go wrong in the process of passing family values on from generation to generation. If certain values are instilled in a particular family since the dawn of its existence, and those values are not necessarily the best ones, it is more than likely going to be considered a perfectly acceptable value and taught to members of that family to come. When negative family values are taught, it is common that when someone applies those same values to real world situations, they will encounter conflict among people and situations that they come across. This is common with families that are prejudice, racist, sheltered, or just plain ignorant to modern cultural standards. It is a very sad thing when incorrect or socially unacceptable values are taught to the youth in a family. For the reason that, to a young and impressionable mind what is taught to them is the only thing that they know and it is always considered right. It is not the youth s fault, or the parents fault for that matter, it is just simply a matter of how a particular family or group of people adapt and conform to contemporary socially acceptable customs. Although it appeared to be a spontaneous response to a Jewish teenager s assassination of a German ambassador in Paris, this event was, in fact, a thoroughly organized attack on the Jews. As the name of the incident suggests, two day long violent outbreak was detrimental. Not only were Sturmabteilung set loose to ransacking Jewish stores and homes, civilians also participated in the series of attacks against the Jews. Over 250 synagogues were targeted; they were destructed, burned, and vandalized. Moreover, over 7,000 businesses were shattered. Plundered Jewish owned properties were often redistributed to German citizens. During this massive coordinated attack, approximately 100 Jews were killed, and approximately 30,000 Jews were sent to concentration camps, such as Dachau, Buchenwald, and Sachsenhausen. Although brutally treated, the prisoners were released if they could prove that they were able to emigrate. However, an estimate of 1,000 Jews ended up dying.
