Speech Is The Major Vehicle Of Human Communication
Introduction: Speech is the major vehicle of human communication through which ideas and thoughts
are conveyed by the speakers to the listeners. During this process, the conveyed message is heard,
understood and the meaning is extracted. Here, it is important to distinguish between Hearing,
Listening and Perception. Hearing is the sensation of sound. Sounds produced by a source are
transmitted through a medium and into the ears of the listener which converts vibrational energy into
neural impulses which travel to the brain. Listening is the act of paying attention to the spoken word,
not only in hearing symbols but also reacting with understanding. A person with normal hearing
sensitivity may have poor listening skills which may result in poor Speech Perception. Unlike hearing
which is an innate process, listening is an acquired skill. Perception involves identification,
categorization and integration of input from various sources so as to make sense from one s
environment. Interactions with one s environment provides information about how stimuli result in
different sensations in different modalities, meaningfulness of different stimuli and their relevance in
the environment. We organize perception and experiences into different categories thereby making it
easy to establish order in the world and by identifying relationships shared by elements in the
environment. It basically involves hearing, interpreting and comprehending all of the sounds produced
by a speaker.

The Irresponsible Deployment of Tasers by Canadian Police...
Introduction
Invented by NASA researcher, John H. Cover, in the 1960 s and 70 s, the TASER® has been widely
adopted by police agencies as a non lethal alternative to guns. While these devices have aided
authorities in subduing suspects, it has also resulted in numerous unnecessary deaths. The general
perception of the non lethality of Tasers along with poor judgement on the part of law enforcement has
culminated in the over use and apparent misuse of discharge against suspects when alternate options
have existed. The following paper will discuss in detail the creation of Conducted Energy Weapons
(CEW) and the TASER®; negative medical implications of Tasers and their current use by police
enforcement groups; the laws which govern the use of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, in Canada, TASER® International Inc. is the only authorized retailer for CEW s, and these
devices are considered a prohibited weapon and can only be sold to law enforcement agencies ( Facts
about stun, 2009).
Tasers work in either a stun gun mode delivered in close proximity or by deploying two probes from
the machine which imbed into the victim s body. Each mode carries a pulsating electric current which
delivers a shock to their neural network. These shocks overwhelm normal neural traffic and result in
involuntary muscle contractions and impaired motor skills ( How a taser, 2013). Currently in Canada,
the X26 s are the most widely used version of the Taser, these were introduced in 2003 for law
enforcement and military use as a more compact and stronger option to the earlier model, M26. Some
notable features of the X26 taser are data storage capability which stores date, time, and burst duration
for up to 1,500 discharges, as well as audio and video recording during discharges which can record
up to 90 minutes.
Medical Implications
While the X26 taser is equipped to deliver 50,000 volts of electricity (over 400 times more electrical
current than the standard house light switch), the transfer of this current through clothing or air
decreases the current to 1,300 volts.

Net Neutrality Essay
As protests continue to protect net neutrality, more online companies join in by displaying warnings
on their websites, stating how the FCC, or the Federal Communications Commission, will change the
rules for net neutrality which would affect the way people will use the internet. Sites such as Reddit,
Esty, and Kickstarter included these warning in the form of pop up boxes and Kickstarter cleared its
home page to communicate to users with the message Defend Net Neutrality. On Tuesday, the large
tech companies did not participate in the protest. A senior vice president at Public Knowledge, Harold
Feld, said: the biggest tech companies were less vocal because they were facing more regulatory
battles than in past years. Moreover, big tech companies encountered complaints from some
lawmakers stating that they became too influential. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The definition of Net Neutrality is the principle that internet service providers should enable access to
all content and applications regardless of the source, and without favoring or restricting access to
certain products or websites. If this principle were to be repealed, the government will decide what is
put on the internet and you would have to pay to access some websites or apps, or internet providers
might just block access to particular apps. I agree with the fight to defend net neutrality because the
internet is an important source of information. If net neutrality were to be repealed, we would have
limited access to information. This article is important enough to share in the news because the news
websites could be blocked because of the things that they report on. For example, someone with a
higher authority may want a news network blocked by the news they report. I believe this is textbook
worthy because this is a problem that could, in a way, affect the First Amendment such as freedom of
speech and freedom of the

The Community Health Workers Of The United States Essay
In the United States there are over seven million uninsured children where Community Health
Workers (CHWs) have been successfully contributing to the increased number of childhood insurance
enrollments. CHWs incorporated training Parent Mentors (PMs) for soliciting other parents who
would in turn educate and raise awareness to issues such as the management of asthma, provision of a
supportive home environments for early learning and interventional services, increased immunization
rates, identification of food insecurities, poisoning knowledge and safe farm working environments.
Historically, Medicaid and the Children s Health Insurance Programs (CHIPs) have provided these
services where the enrollees have had to overcome barriers to challenging, hard to negotiate
qualifications, inequities and enrollment processes. Whereby today, in combination with PM training
those deficiencies found in the Medicaid/CHIP system could be effectively overcome. As qualified
PMs reach out to the public it will be necessary to implement adequate testing measures for
performance, skill sets, adequate training, knowledge and effectiveness. The evaluations of those
contributions will directly relate to the overall healthcare of children and what impact it will have on
the overall healthcare system.

Essay about Changes of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth
My dearest partner of greatness (I, v, 10) suggests to the reader or audience of the play Macbeth, that
these two partners, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth, worked together and truly believed in the greatness of
their work. This is not so. Said here in a letter from Macbeth to Lady Macbeth telling her that the king
is coming soon. There Macbeth truly feels that Lady Macbeth is his partner in all these truly great
events. The letter shows us of the close relationship between Macbeth and Lady Macbeth, and shows
us that the deepest secrets of the heart were revealed to each other.
It is from this point that we meet the true character of Lady Macbeth. She immediately shows herself
as a domineering, strong willed and ambitious wife to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Somehow Macbeth manages to keep his composure when faced with his guests and the evidence of
the killing, but we, the audience know that inside, his heart is quaking with fear. Out of nervousness,
Macbeth blurts out the fact that he murdered the two servants with his anger. That was very rash and
cast a tiny shadow of suspicion on him even at that early stage.
Earlier it was Macbeth who was worried that their plan would fail and lady Macbeth was the one who
scoffed at the mere idea of failing. Now Macbeth, the king, had murderers to kill Banquo and others
with no qualms at all. When lady Macbeth inquires about how he is so sure that banquo doesn t
suspect them, Macbeth merely shrugs off her questions and tells her that these matters are not for the
ears of a woman. Here we see how their close relationship, mentioned earlier has diminished to that of
a slave and his master. Now Macbeth tells his wife t walk alongside him as they leave together.
The biggest character change is seen within lady Macbeth. Lady Macbeth. Lady Macbeth is heart
broken by he fact that she no longer has any control over her husband. He is moving forward and she
is left behind. The queen yes, but moving up from that point doesn t seem to be happening. She, the
strong one has gone timid and womanly. Towards the end of the play, poor lady Macbeth is
traumatised by her very own words she mocked Macbeth with,

Men vs Women at the Pool
Men vs Women at the Pool
It was a Friday afternoon and the sun was shining off of her freckled nose. She was in a rage because
her male counterpart had made plans to go the pool with the rest of his male friends.
Why can t I go? She asked in a whiney voice.
Because this is man time. Besides, you said you had things to do today. He replied in a deep voice, as
he scratched at his five o clock shadow.
It was funny how she would always have her Girls Night Out and he wouldn t say a word about it. He

It is like when lions go hunting they lie camouflaged in the bushes watching their prey gather around
the waterhole. In this case, the tinted glass supplies protection from being identified as a predator.
Along side the man, are his other friends, which usually serve as some sort of back up if the job at
hand should ever require more than one man. Along side these urban predators is their trusty cooler,
containing what is usually nothing less then ninety percent beer. This allows the process of one man
making another man look stupid a much easier process.
The women sunbathing around the pool could care less about the men around them getting drunk and
loud. The women are usually too busy talking about the weather, shopping, or the hunk across the pool
to ever notice most of the men staring them down.
This also has a lot to do with what has come to be known as The Rayban Effect. The women pay no
attention to the men, because they cannot tell if the men are paying attention to them.
Occasionally, you will see a couple come to the pool together. The woman with her hair done and her

and sometimes a six pack, if the woman allows. This along with any other articles the woman must

Boo Radley Courage
What some people think of courage is doing something without having fear. Others see courage as
standing up for something that you believe in. Harper Lee takes both of these definitions and use them
in her writing. In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee uses the children, Boo Radley, and
Atticus Finch to demonstrate that courage is more than being brave, but also standing up for what you
believe in despite the risk and sacrifice. From the beginning of the novel to the end the children
improve and expand on courage with Boo Radley. The children show courage of touching the house
but also on how courage grows throughout the book about Boo and what he truly acts like. This is
exemplified when Lee wrote, Jem threw open the gate and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Harper Lee shows this when him and Scout walk to Boo s house. Will you take me home? He almost
whispered it, in the voice of a child afraid of the dark (319). From this readers can see that he is very
gentle and not at all like the children initially made him out to be. Harper Lee also shows that Boo put
himself from danger to save the kids. From saving their lives to Scout thinking escorting me down the
sidewalk (319 320) Boo puts his life in danger. Boo could have been put in the spotlight whether
people are thanking him for what he did or critical of his intentions. Lastly, Boo could have gone to

not by saving people but for standing up for a black man s

Reducing Number of Infiltration Cycles for La0.8Sr0.2FeO3 YSZ Cathodes
Xiaoyan Li
Abstract
In order to decrease the number of cycles of infiltration and maintain a comparable cathode
performance, the viability of using a conductive composite scaffold of La0.8Sr0.2FeO3 and yttria
stablized zirconia (YSZ) with one infiltration cycle was investigated. The infiltration material is nitrate
salt solution of La, Sr, Co and Fe to form La0.6Sr0.4Co0.2Fe0.8O3 perovskite phase. Cathodes
fabricated from scaffolds using different ratios of LSF YSZ were tested by impedance spectroscopy
with the results showing that the ohmic resistance decreases as the amount of LSF increases. In
addition, scaffolds calcined at 1350oC exhibited ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
1,2 In this case, YSZ is included in the cathode to provide ionic conductivity, as well as enhancing the
connection between the electrode and the YSZ electrolyte. YSZ in the electrode also helps match the
thermal expansion of the electrode to the electrolyte.1 4 The functions of LSM in the composite
cathode include providing electronic conductivity and catalytic activity, but with negligible
contributions to ionic conductivity.4,5
The conventional method for fabricating the electrode is to deposit and sinter a mixture of the
electrode composites onto a dense YSZ electrolyte.4 The sintering temperature must be a compromise,
high enough to ensure the good connection between YSZ in the electrode and the electrolyte, but low
enough to prevent solid state reactions between the electrode composites.2,5 Indeed, most conducting
perovkites are unable to be prepared due to the formation of insulating phases at high temperatures
required for YSZ sintering.4 Therefore, the infiltration method was initially developed to separate the
high calcination temperature required to densify the YSZ electrolyte from the lower calcinations
temperature needed for the other electrode components.1,4,5 Furthermore, the infiltration method
provides a nonrandom structure where the electronically conductive components are deposited into the
previously formed porous YSZ scaffold.1 4 Infiltration also forms superior

Comparing Shakespeare s Midsummer Night s Dream, Pride...
Compare and contrast the presentation of love and marriage in A Midsummer Night s Dream, Pride
and Prejudice and The Great Gatsby.
The main theme which brings A Midsummer Night s Dream, Pride and Prejudice and The Great
Gatsby together is the idea of how love and marriage is presented. Shakespeare, F. Scott Fitzgerald
and Austen all portray love and marriage as being two separate issues, which rarely intertwine. The
different contexts in which these texts are written have all had a huge impact on the way in which love
and marriage is portrayed. The Great Gatsby was set in the roaring twenties, a time where people
enjoyed wealth and artistic innovation. Pride and Prejudice was set in the early 19th century, a time
when wealth and marriage were hugely important. A Midsummer Night s Dream was written between
1590 and 1596, which is a comedic, light hearted play and focuses on marriage.
In the novel Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, marriage is a significant issue for almost every single
character that we are introduced to. In the year 1813, when the novel was first published, it was
natural for people to wed due to status and practicality instead of for true love. The very first line of
the novel is the perfect introduction to this It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in
possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife . Indeed, in 1813 marriage was seen as a
financial transaction and women were seen as a commodity who had to be wed in order

Sexually Transmitted Infection
Public Health Problem
Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) has been a persisting public health problem throughout the
world. While some STIs, like gonorrhea, are curable, other STIs like human papillomavirus (HPV),
have no cure and can lead to deadly consequences. Unfortunately, HPV is considered to be the most
common type of sexually transmitted infection. Like all STIs, HPV spread through sexual contact with
an infected person, whether it be vaginal, anal, or oral sex. According to the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention, there are about 79 million Americans infected with HPV at a time and about
14 million new cases arise every year ( Human Papillomavirus (HPV) ). This means that about one in

Bull Float
Running the Bull Float Pouring concrete is a huge part of America s past. The Hoover Dam is entirely
made of concrete. The Dam was erected of 3.25 million cubic yards of concrete while all of its
additional facilities were an additional 1.11 million cubic yards of concrete (Arbeiter). That s 4.36
million cubic yards of concrete! Assuming that the average price of a yard of concrete is one hundred
dollars in today s standards that adds up to 436,000,000 dollars for the concrete alone! That price
doesn t include the worker s wages, the price of steel and metal that has to be put into the concrete,
and even the price it cost to build the temporary diversions of the river so that the dam could be
constructed.
Since the start of last school year, I have probably poured a total of over one hundred cubic yards of
concrete. Later on I will explain how to calculate what a cubic yard is, but for now, just know that
concrete is no joke. Everyone involved must be focused at all times and if anyone fails to complete
their job, then the entire pour could go downhill quickly. After reading this essay, I hope you learn to
not only respect the amount of effort and work required to have a successful concrete pour but also to
learn some of the basic things involved in concrete. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most pours require you to own a bull float. A bull float is an approximately three foot wide piece of
metal attached to the end of a series of poles. This is used when finishing the concrete. You start by
setting the float angled at approximately a thirty degree incline and run the float across the concrete.
When you make it to the other side of the pad, you need to reverse the floats angle and have a one
hundred and fifty degree angle instead. Newer bull floats have twistable handles which come in very
handy. Older ones, however, you just have to rise up into the air really high to reach the desired

Citizenship Is An Outdated Notion Of The 21st Century
Citizenship is an outdated notion in the 21st century. Critically discuss this statement.
Citizenship can be defined as the position or status of being a citizen in a particular country (Oxford
Dictionaries, 2016). This definition is not very broad, nor does it cover the many aspects of citizenship
that exist in the 21st century. It is not only about being a legal citizen of a particular country, it is also
about being a social citizen. You can be a citizen of Australia but choose to live elsewhere for the
majority of your life. In terms of citizenship it is relevant on a political and social level. If you are
actively contributing to the country in which you live in some ways you are fulfilling your duties as a
citizen.
Citizenship will always be a relevant concept because when you are a citizen of a particular country it
comes with a sense of belonging. There is a feeling of pride when you become a citizen of a country.
In particular, if your family is from that country it can help to gain a sense of community with those
around you. It is important for people to feel that they are citizens of the same country as their
children. Sometimes legal citizenship changes a person s perspective and they feel that they belong
but often there is still a chance people may be excluded based on external factors, for example, they
have a different religion to the majority of a particular community. That s why it is important for
people to be social citizens as well so that they can

Diversity in Law Enforcement Essay
Final Paper Diversity in law enforcement has grown to become a hot topic within the law enforcement
community. The demographic of society has changed dramatically over the last 20 years and with that
law enforcement has been changing, but have they been changing enough? Different law enforcement
agencies have their own ways of implementing diversity in their practices and procedures, some of
them are better than others, but with issues that happen today it is important that they do something.
There have been major incidents in our generation that have caused the need for diversity reform in
law enforcement. The biggest incident was the attacks on the United States of America that occurred
on September 11th, 2001. The attacks that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Hate crimes have continued to be a very real issue for African Americans. According to civilrights.org
Despite the election of our nations first African American President, African Americans remain by far
the most frequent victims of hate crimes...On election night in 2008, Ralph Nicoletti and Michael
Contreas, both 18, and Brian Carranza 21, of Staten Island, New York decided shortly after learning of
Barrack Obama s election victory to find African Americans to assault...The men drove to a
predominantly African American neighborhood in Staten Island where they came upon a 17 year old
African American who was walking home after watching the election at a friends house. One of the
men in the car yelled Obama Then, the men got out of the car and beat the youth with a metal pipe and
collapsible police baton, injuring his head and legs. The men went on to commit additional assaults
that night. (civilrights.org) Again, here is another prime example of why it is important to reform
diversity in law enforcement and think of creative ways to educate and police these communities.
There are some law enforcement agencies that are taking a proactive approach by implementing

and test. FAME is a helpful database that helps to provide company data information and variable
analysis, it has provided information of 250 companies that come from 250 FTSE registered firms. In
addition, the annual report of research companies also helps to provide essential data and information.
This article uses the screening and identification tools and chosen 165 firms data and internal control

audit fees and two main independent variables, including the percentage of non executive director and

External audit plays a significant part in the assessment of the performance in a firm, Hye et al (2015)
had used the audit fees to represent the audit risk of the company, which would be a useful indicator
on audit quality. The audit fees for these 165 firms could be collected from FAME directly. Due to the
reason that the amount of total audit fees in a company are extremely huge, this research would use
the natural logarithm of total audit fees, which would be more convenient to calculate and to compare
with other companies and variables. In addition, a plenty of literatures, such as Zaman et al (2011) and
Boo and Sharma (2008) also use natural logarithm to calculate the total audit fees.

supervision works. They need to obtain the independent information about the management and
control of the directors in the company, thus they would require the external auditors to provide the
financial information they needed. Peel and Clatworthy (2011) also use the EDBS (ratio of non
executive directors to total directors) as independent variable. The proportion of non executive

the total number of directors. Moreover, both of

Tuberculosis Is A Disease Caused By The Bacteria Tubercle...
Introduction:
Tuberculosis is a disease caused by the bacteria tubercle bacilli (NSW Health 2014). It is one of
mankind s oldest infections and has plagued humans throughout recorded and archaeological history
(Encyclopaedia Britannica 2014). Tuberculosis comes in an infectious and disease form. The
infectious form is the result of contraction of TB bacteria that remains dormant and is neither
symptomatic nor contagious. The disease form of TB is caused by active TB bacteria and results in the
contagious and fatal tuberculosis disease.
History of Tuberculosis
Tubercle bacilli emerged as a pathogen from East Africa, and as people migrated so did the disease.
Tuberculosis lesions contain acid fast bacilli which have been found in Egyptian and Peruvian
mummies (Schlossberg page 97). From these findings, historians and microbiologists have concluded
that mycobacterium is millions of years old.
Physiology of mycobacterium:
Tubercle bacilli is a type of mycobacterium. Its prototrophic, metabolically flexible membrane (US
National Library of Medicine 2008) enables it to metabolize and reproduce without specific
substances, increasing its speed of replication and infection. The tubercle bacilli s rod shape enables it
to withstand a combination of selective pressures (Kerseik K 2013), including nutrient access and
predation. Nutrient absorption is maximised by the cell s ability to match increases in cell size by
increasing its cell length. This maintains its high surface

Structuring on the best of existing state standards, the Common Core State Standards provide a clear
and reliable learning goal to help prepare students for college, career, and life. The standards clearly
demonstrate what students are expected to learn at each grade level, so that every parent and teacher
can understand and support their learning. From Kindergarten through 8th grade, grade by grade
standards exist in English language arts/literacy and mathematics. From 9th through 12th grade, the
standards are grouped into grade sets of 9th through 10th grade standards and 11th through 12th grade
standards. Moreover, the CCSS stress the importance of using primary texts in the classroom to build
literacy, along with many other things. While the standards set grade specific goals, they do not define
how the standards should be taught or which materials should be used to support students. States and
districts know that there will need to be a range of supports in place to guarantee that all students,
including those with special needs and English language learners, can master the standards. It is up to
the states to outline the full range of supports appropriate for these students. Since the release of the
final standards in 2010, a two party mix of organizations representing parents, teachers, business
leaders, and other key voices have strongly supported the Common Core State Standards. The

Social Control In Metropolis
A great deal of fictional films and literature deal with the concept of society. Writers have played
around with the idea of societies that are different from the world we know. While some portray this in
optimistic ways and others darker, what these works have in common is the idea of social control
wherein people are forced to conform to means that are believed to benefit their society. Fritz Lang s
1927 silent film, Metropolis is an early example of this. The beginning shows machine gears and
workers marching towards a factory. This place is known as the Workers City, described to be far
below Metropolis, the city for the upper class founded by Joh Fredersen (Alfred Abel). The lives of
the workers and the rich are very different, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First of all, the set design was intricate and very detailed, especially in the factories where there were
gears and machines operating everywhere. Every inch brought the setting to life. There was a clear
distinction when switching from Metropolis to the Workers City that was seen in the scene s setting.
Moreover, the settings were given more depth by the frames and angles in which they were shot.
Many scenes would show the main subject or image centered in the frame, and this was given
emphasis with the use of dark shadows in contrary to a bright subject. Shadows indeed played a big
part in creating visuals. The technique of chiaroscuro, the contrast between light and dark comes to
mind, like in scenes that were more somber and serious (e.g. carrying the dead bodies from the
factory, Maria making prophecies about peace). In connection with the concept of angles, Fritz Lang
also had a commendable use of symmetry, which was visually appealing especially with intricately
designed sets. Lang also used lines in his shots, adding style and flair to dramatic

Eve Bayou
Eve s Bayou
Memory is a selection of images, some elusive, others printed indelibly on the brain. The summer I
killed my father, I was ten years old. My brother, Poe, was ten and my sister, Cisely had just turned
fourteen. At its heart, Eve s Bayou is about memory and how it influences our perception of events of
the past and our future actions. Eve s Bayou is a gothic African American melodrama set in the bayous
of Louisiana. Most of the characters are of a racially mixed heritage, though they live as African
Americans. This film has too many subjects and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some might say that Louis s womanizing ways just caught up to him and caused his death. Personally
I believe this was the real reason that makes Eve as a killer, because it was her who made the husband
of a woman with whom her father had an affair to think that he was being betrayed by his wife. In
addition to the story, despite the death of Louis Batiste, perhaps as a result of Eve s plotting, the film
comes to a strange sort of happy ending. Eve learns to live with what she has done. Cisely recovers
from her depression. Even Mozelle gets another husband, though whether he falls victim to the curse
we never know. Although Eve s Bayou takes place in the context of a social milieu i.e. every character
is
the product of a heritage of interplay between blacks and whites, it is not a film that engages racial
issues. Rather it works in the individual realms of the individual characters. Those aspects of their
lives that might have racial significance interest in voodoo, dialect, varied skin tones are mainly
incidental. However for Eve, even as an adult, all she can remember is this: The summer I killed my

Opposing Views of Early Americans, Thomas Morton and John...
There may not be two more contrasting characters of early America then Thomas Morton and John
Winthrop. Morton was nicknamed, Leader of Misrule while Winthrop was seen as the model of [a]
perfect earthly ruler (147). These two figures not only help settle a new land, they also had firsthand
knowledge of each other. They are not two people that lived years apart from each other but rather
they lived concurrently. With two such polarizing people living in a small new land, there was bound
to be at least one disagreement. We are fortunate to have writings from each of these two fascinating
men. One can t help but be thoroughly entertained when reading the words that each man left behind.

Bradford noted that, Morton... [had] more craft then honesty. This suspicion was warranted as Morton
waited until the leaders of his new settlement had left and then convinced the servants to rebel against
them. He assumed the role of leader of this motley crew. Bradford described this group at Merrymount
that, ...fell to great licentiousness, and led a dissolute life, pouring out themselves into all profaneness.
And Morton became lord of misrule, and maintained (as it were) a school of Atheism (127).
Everything that the Puritans stood for, Morton was boldly going against. But the following events that
Morton orchestrated are what really pushed the Puritans over the edge. Firstly, Morton erected a
Maypole for a May Day celebration. This Maypole was in the words of Morton, a lamentable
spectacle to the precise Separatists that lived at New Plymouth. They termed it an idol; yea, they
called it the Calf of Horeb and stood at defiance with the place (141). However, Morton made no
apologies and his group gathered around the pole to drink and sing songs that included lyrics such as,
Drink and be merry, merry, merry boys; /...To cure the heart oppressed with grief, / And of good
liquors is the chief. /Then drink (141). In Morton s writing it is clear that he just wanted to have a
good time.
While the Maypole incident was offensive to the Puritans, Morton s next offense was outright
condemnable. As Bradford described,

Use of Setting and Description in Johnno
Throughout Johnno descriptions of settings relating to houses and buildings enable the reader to
obtain an insight into the character of Dante. Malouf captures images with powerful force, creating
depth to the characters. Specific details that may be deemed inappropriate are enhanced to provide
meaning and show how characters respond and feel toward places.
Malouf effectively uses images to reinforce attitudes, feelings and emotions. Though the descriptions
are long and detailed, they are worthwhile and evocative. Many of the descriptions are symbolic, such
as the descriptions of the garden. Malouf s use of language is casual, which enhances the story,
causing it to come alive. Through Malouf s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The new house was stuffily and pretentiously over furnished and depressingly modern
This would not be an easy environment for a child. The restrictions that are felt by the words make the
house seem as though the appearance is of more importance than the comfort. The house is said to be
huge, ugly, and show offish, and through a child s eyes there is the questioning of why the house needs
to be that way. Inside the house the atmosphere is intense, crowded with valuable, superfluous items,
requiring proper behaviour.
Dante felt restricted and lonely in the new house, he was unable to feel a part of the environment
because of the lack of freedom. He missed the old house, unable to replace the good memories that he
held with him.
The house of Dante s grandmother is large, with many rooms filled with valuable furniture, ornaments
and trinkets. Though there is much space, the living area was restricted, protecting much of the
valuables from undue use and damage. The outdoors was a release from the house. The verandah was
almost another world, filled with warmth and light.
Malouf shows how the grandmothers house had many restrictions and expectations. The porcelain,
lace, velvet and silk all required so much respect. The many closed doors enforced the house s
limitations, and because of this, the house remained dark, leaving it with an air of foreboding.
Outside Malouf shows the difference of atmosphere, the

Essay about Napoleon I
Napoleon I
Napoleon s life was a very interesting one. Starting a poor boy, hated by most, rising to rule a huge
empire, and then finally being destroyed by his own arrogance and ending his life humbled,
remembering what he had doe, and leaving it all in his memoirs for the world to read.
Napoleon was born in 1769, on the Island of Corsica. His parents, Carlo and
Letizia Bonaparte, were poor nobles. When Napoleon was just 10 years old, his father helped to get
him a mathematical scholarship to a military school at
Brienne. In the school, Napoleon was hated and considered a foreigner. With no friends, Napoleon

He then went further into Italy, pushing into the Lombardy region. He took the stronghold at
Mantua after a long siege, and was heading toward Venice with little resistance when the Austrians
surrendered, and Napoleon negotiated the treaty of Campo
Formio, which ended what is now called the war of the first coalition. While in
Italy, Napoleon took large amounts of money and art to bring to France. When
Napoleon returned from Italy, it was suggested that he invade England. Instead, he decided to invade
British owned Egypt. After sneaking by the British navy,
Napoleon landed in Egypt, and quickly carried out the occupation. While
Napoleon as inland, the British destroyed the French fleet, leaving Napoleon stuck in Egypt.
In early 1799, the Ottoman empire declared war on France. To stop the
Ottoman s from invading Egypt, Napoleon invaded Syria, but was turned back by Turkish troops. By
mid 1799, the second coalition (formed by the
Ottoman s and Austrians) were defeating French forces in Europe, so Napoleon decided to return to
France. When Napoleon arrived in Paris, he began a conspiracy to overthrow the government. He
succeeded, and created a new government called the consulate, of which Napoleon became the first
consul. As consul, Napoleon made many good changes in France. He created the Napoleonic code,
which set up a complex code of civil law in the nation. He worked with the Pope to reestablish the

Steroids in Sports: Exploratory Essay The sports world has changed drastically over the past 10 years.
The use of steroids has risen within that amount of time and it has changed the view of sports and the

drugs to enhance their performance on the field of play. Athletes are always looking for ways to
improve their skills on and off the field. With the use of steroids, athletes everywhere, not just well

The study of religious and spiritual experiences can be complicated because so much time an effort
can be waste by trying to find a meaning to what experience is. Gadmmer states that the concept of
experience is one of the most obscure it exits. People are aware that experience is something more
than ere actions or behavior. Experience refers to a total way of acting or being and cannot be reduced
to its parts, even if those parts can be identified. Religion provides meaning and closure for many.
Therefore, specifically religious experiences constitute a more restricted range than the diversity that
characterizes spiritual experiences. This parallels the distinction between religious conversion and

There are many people who think that mystical experience cannot support a belief that one has united
with God or experienced ultimate reality. However for other people, mysticism is an experience that
provides reason to belief in God or ultimate reality. Thorner explains that mystics claim that the
perceptual referent in religions experiences is a unity within the world. On the other hand, mystical
experience is only one form of mysticism. Williams James presented the paradoxical position of the

there were no need for the concept of a soul or any transcendent dimension to human consciousness.
In The Varieties of Religious Experience he noted that the facts of mystical experience required a

psychology since the beginning. Many had proposed mysticism as a form of consciousness that is
evolving. Consciousness has evolved from the non reflective consciousness that characterizes animals
to the reflective consciousness that characterizes humans. Bucke is indentified with the theory that

Sexual Assault And Sexual Harassment
Women in combat is a sensitive topic throughout the Armed Forces. Although in January 2013 the
Military made the decision to end the ban on women in combat, many still oppose this decision. Many
Combat jobs have very strict requirements, such as physical abilities. There are many concerns of
women being able to fulfill these types of requirements. Another big concern is the risk of sexual
assault and sexual harassment, many people feel that women in combat jobs are at a higher risk of
being subjected to these types of things. The safety of our soldiers whether male or female is a big
concern for everybody, no matter their position on this particular topic. Women are thought to be
sensitive creatures, the worry of their sensitive nature in a combat zone might hinder the mission.
Completing the mission is and will always be a major requirement. If a question of mental and
physical ability can be proven to complete the job requirements, should this still be an issue? The
possibilities of sexual harassment and assault are very serious. Unfortunately, this is an issue whether
in the military or not. Sexual crimes happening in college are a serious issue, as a society we cannot
tell women not to go to college because there is a greater possibility of being sexually assaulted or
harassed. If a person has all credentials, and qualifications to perform a job, they should be allowed to

How Does Hamlet Send People To Go To Heaven
During the era of Queen Elizabeth, people thought highly of God due to his power to send people to

  • 3. Speech Is The Major Vehicle Of Human Communication Introduction: Speech is the major vehicle of human communication through which ideas and thoughts are conveyed by the speakers to the listeners. During this process, the conveyed message is heard, understood and the meaning is extracted. Here, it is important to distinguish between Hearing, Listening and Perception. Hearing is the sensation of sound. Sounds produced by a source are transmitted through a medium and into the ears of the listener which converts vibrational energy into neural impulses which travel to the brain. Listening is the act of paying attention to the spoken word, not only in hearing symbols but also reacting with understanding. A person with normal hearing sensitivity may have poor listening skills which may result in poor Speech Perception. Unlike hearing which is an innate process, listening is an acquired skill. Perception involves identification, categorization and integration of input from various sources so as to make sense from one s environment. Interactions with one s environment provides information about how stimuli result in different sensations in different modalities, meaningfulness of different stimuli and their relevance in the environment. We organize perception and experiences into different categories thereby making it easy to establish order in the world and by identifying relationships shared by elements in the environment. It basically involves hearing, interpreting and comprehending all of the sounds produced by a speaker. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Irresponsible Deployment of Tasers by Canadian Police... Introduction Invented by NASA researcher, John H. Cover, in the 1960 s and 70 s, the TASER® has been widely adopted by police agencies as a non lethal alternative to guns. While these devices have aided authorities in subduing suspects, it has also resulted in numerous unnecessary deaths. The general perception of the non lethality of Tasers along with poor judgement on the part of law enforcement has culminated in the over use and apparent misuse of discharge against suspects when alternate options have existed. The following paper will discuss in detail the creation of Conducted Energy Weapons (CEW) and the TASER®; negative medical implications of Tasers and their current use by police enforcement groups; the laws which govern the use of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact, in Canada, TASER® International Inc. is the only authorized retailer for CEW s, and these devices are considered a prohibited weapon and can only be sold to law enforcement agencies ( Facts about stun, 2009). Tasers work in either a stun gun mode delivered in close proximity or by deploying two probes from the machine which imbed into the victim s body. Each mode carries a pulsating electric current which delivers a shock to their neural network. These shocks overwhelm normal neural traffic and result in involuntary muscle contractions and impaired motor skills ( How a taser, 2013). Currently in Canada, the X26 s are the most widely used version of the Taser, these were introduced in 2003 for law enforcement and military use as a more compact and stronger option to the earlier model, M26. Some notable features of the X26 taser are data storage capability which stores date, time, and burst duration for up to 1,500 discharges, as well as audio and video recording during discharges which can record up to 90 minutes. Medical Implications While the X26 taser is equipped to deliver 50,000 volts of electricity (over 400 times more electrical current than the standard house light switch), the transfer of this current through clothing or air decreases the current to 1,300 volts. ... Net Neutrality Essay As protests continue to protect net neutrality, more online companies join in by displaying warnings on their websites, stating how the FCC, or the Federal Communications Commission, will change the rules for net neutrality which would affect the way people will use the internet. Sites such as Reddit, Esty, and Kickstarter included these warning in the form of pop up boxes and Kickstarter cleared its home page to communicate to users with the message Defend Net Neutrality. On Tuesday, the large tech companies did not participate in the protest. • 6. The Community Health Workers Of The United States Essay In the United States there are over seven million uninsured children where Community Health Workers (CHWs) have been successfully contributing to the increased number of childhood insurance enrollments. CHWs incorporated training Parent Mentors (PMs) for soliciting other parents who would in turn educate and raise awareness to issues such as the management of asthma, provision of a supportive home environments for early learning and interventional services, increased immunization rates, identification of food insecurities, poisoning knowledge and safe farm working environments. Historically, Medicaid and the Children s Health Insurance Programs (CHIPs) have provided these services where the enrollees have had to overcome barriers to challenging, hard to negotiate qualifications, inequities and enrollment processes. Whereby today, in combination with PM training those deficiencies found in the Medicaid/CHIP system could be effectively overcome. As qualified PMs reach out to the public it will be necessary to implement adequate testing measures for performance, skill sets, adequate training, knowledge and effectiveness. The evaluations of those contributions will directly relate to the overall healthcare of children and what impact it will have on the overall healthcare system. Essay about Changes of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth My dearest partner of greatness (I, v, 10) suggests to the reader or audience of the play Macbeth, that these two partners, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth, worked together and truly believed in the greatness of their work. There Macbeth truly feels that Lady Macbeth is his partner in all these truly great events. Earlier it was Macbeth who was worried that their plan would fail and lady Macbeth was the one who scoffed at the mere idea of failing. Now Macbeth, the king, had murderers to kill Banquo and others with no qualms at all. When lady Macbeth inquires about how he is so sure that banquo doesn t suspect them, Macbeth merely shrugs off her questions and tells her that these matters are not for the ears of a woman. Here we see how their close relationship, mentioned earlier has diminished to that of a slave and his master. Now Macbeth tells his wife t walk alongside him as they leave together. Harper Lee takes both of these definitions and use them in her writing. • 11. Comparing Shakespeare s Midsummer Night s Dream, Pride... Compare and contrast the presentation of love and marriage in A Midsummer Night s Dream, Pride and Prejudice and The Great Gatsby. The main theme which brings A Midsummer Night s Dream, Pride and Prejudice and The Great Gatsby together is the idea of how love and marriage is presented. Shakespeare, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Austen all portray love and marriage as being two separate issues, which rarely intertwine. The different contexts in which these texts are written have all had a huge impact on the way in which love and marriage is portrayed. The Great Gatsby was set in the roaring twenties, a time where people enjoyed wealth and artistic innovation. Pride and Prejudice was set in the early 19th century, a time when wealth and marriage were hugely important. A Midsummer Night s Dream was written between 1590 and 1596, which is a comedic, light hearted play and focuses on marriage. In the novel Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, marriage is a significant issue for almost every single character that we are introduced to. In the year 1813, when the novel was first published, it was natural for people to wed due to status and practicality instead of for true love. The very first line of the novel is the perfect introduction to this It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife . Citizenship can be defined as the position or status of being a citizen in a particular country (Oxford Dictionaries, 2016). This definition is not very broad, nor does it cover the many aspects of citizenship that exist in the 21st century. It is not only about being a legal citizen of a particular country, it is also about being a social citizen. You can be a citizen of Australia but choose to live elsewhere for the majority of your life. In terms of citizenship it is relevant on a political and social level. If you are actively contributing to the country in which you live in some ways you are fulfilling your duties as a citizen. Citizenship will always be a relevant concept because when you are a citizen of a particular country it comes with a sense of belonging. There is a feeling of pride when you become a citizen of a country. In particular, if your family is from that country it can help to gain a sense of community with those around you. It is important for people to feel that they are citizens of the same country as their children. Sometimes legal citizenship changes a person s perspective and they feel that they belong but often there is still a chance people may be excluded based on external factors, for example, they have a different religion to the majority of a particular community. It is one of mankind s oldest infections and has plagued humans throughout recorded and archaeological history (Encyclopaedia Britannica 2014). Tuberculosis comes in an infectious and disease form. The infectious form is the result of contraction of TB bacteria that remains dormant and is neither symptomatic nor contagious. The disease form of TB is caused by active TB bacteria and results in the contagious and fatal tuberculosis disease. History of Tuberculosis Tubercle bacilli emerged as a pathogen from East Africa, and as people migrated so did the disease. Tuberculosis lesions contain acid fast bacilli which have been found in Egyptian and Peruvian mummies (Schlossberg page 97). From these findings, historians and microbiologists have concluded that mycobacterium is millions of years old. Physiology of mycobacterium: Tubercle bacilli is a type of mycobacterium. Writers have played around with the idea of societies that are different from the world we know. Fritz Lang s 1927 silent film, Metropolis is an early example of this. The beginning shows machine gears and workers marching towards a factory. Morton was nicknamed, Leader of Misrule while Winthrop was seen as the model of [a] perfect earthly ruler (147). These two figures not only help settle a new land, they also had firsthand knowledge of each other. They are not two people that lived years apart from each other but rather they lived concurrently. With two such polarizing people living in a small new land, there was bound to be at least one disagreement. We are fortunate to have writings from each of these two fascinating men. Bradford noted that, Morton... [had] more craft then honesty. This suspicion was warranted as Morton waited until the leaders of his new settlement had left and then convinced the servants to rebel against them. He assumed the role of leader of this motley crew. Bradford described this group at Merrymount that, ...fell to great licentiousness, and led a dissolute life, pouring out themselves into all profaneness. And Morton became lord of misrule, and maintained (as it were) a school of Atheism (127). Everything that the Puritans stood for, Morton was boldly going against. But the following events that Morton orchestrated are what really pushed the Puritans over the edge. Firstly, Morton erected a Maypole for a May Day celebration. This Maypole was in the words of Morton, a lamentable spectacle to the precise Separatists that lived at New Plymouth. They termed it an idol; yea, they called it the Calf of Horeb and stood at defiance with the place (141). However, Morton made no apologies and his group gathered around the pole to drink and sing songs that included lyrics such as, Drink and be merry, merry, merry boys; /...To cure the heart oppressed with grief, / And of good liquors is the chief. /Then drink (141). In Morton s writing it is clear that he just wanted to have a good time. While the Maypole incident was offensive to the Puritans, Morton s next offense was outright condemnable. Use of Setting and Description in Johnno Throughout Johnno descriptions of settings relating to houses and buildings enable the reader to obtain an insight into the character of Dante. Malouf captures images with powerful force, creating depth to the characters. Specific details that may be deemed inappropriate are enhanced to provide meaning and show how characters respond and feel toward places. Malouf effectively uses images to reinforce attitudes, feelings and emotions. Though the descriptions are long and detailed, they are worthwhile and evocative. The restrictions that are felt by the words make the house seem as though the appearance is of more importance than the comfort. The house is said to be huge, ugly, and show offish, and through a child s eyes there is the questioning of why the house needs to be that way. Inside the house the atmosphere is intense, crowded with valuable, superfluous items, requiring proper behaviour. Dante felt restricted and lonely in the new house, he was unable to feel a part of the environment because of the lack of freedom. He missed the old house, unable to replace the good memories that he held with him. The house of Dante s grandmother is large, with many rooms filled with valuable furniture, ornaments and trinkets. Though there is much space, the living area was restricted, protecting much of the valuables from undue use and damage. The outdoors was a release from the house. The verandah was almost another world, filled with warmth and light. Malouf shows how the grandmothers house had many restrictions and expectations. The porcelain, lace, velvet and silk all required so much respect. The many closed doors enforced the house s limitations, and because of this, the house remained dark, leaving it with an air of foreboding. Outside Malouf shows the difference of atmosphere, the ...
